Arzu and Melisa are together. Melisa asks again about what Kaya did to her. Arzu talks about starting a new life. She tries to avoid answering Melisa's question. She admits that she hid a lot of things from Melisa, she didn't want Melisa to suffer because of her. Melisa tells her that Kaya will pay for what he did to her. "It's not your fault," she assures Arzu.

Meanwhile, Cennet is miserable. Her mother chose to save her other daughter. "I wondered all my life what I did. My father is to blame. He forced my mother to be with him. Now I understand why she doesn't love me. I was the result of rape." Selim kisses her, but she continues. "The worst thing is that I believed her. I hugged her, kissed her, called her 'mother'." She tells Selim and Mukaddes that they are her only family. "And perhaps my sister, Melisa."

Back at the Soyers, Orhan wants to know why the brakes failed. Mahir is annoyed that Arzu didn't call him to come to the hospital. After all, Melisa is his daughter.

Kaya tells Halil that he is going to start a new life, with Cavidan. "After what I've been through, I have the right to love." [Huh???] He continues, "I'm just going to kidnap her. She doesn't know how much I love her, but she will." [Yup, she sure will!] He tells Halil to get his boat ready and filled with supplies and food. There will be no anger, no revenge, he'll live the life he deserves.

Arzu holds Melisa close to her. Melisa is still wanting to question her, but Arzu tells her she's not going to talk about it. Melisa seems very understanding, and tells her that's OK, she can talk about it when she's ready. But she then goes on to tell Arzu that Cennet will never forgive her. Arzu replies that she nonetheless has to go see Cennet. Sema comes in and wants to know how Arzu knew about the accident. Arzu tells her that they were talking on the phone and Arzu heard what was happening. Sema doesn't believe her. Arzu doesn't care.

As Arzu is leaving, Mahir asks where she's going and then says, "You're going to see him, yes?" Arzu tells him that he (Mahir) was the only man in her life. Sema then comes outside and encourages Arzu to leave. Melisa again defies Sema, who calls her a disrespectful child.

Selim, Cennet, and Mukaddes are talking. Cennet and Selim talk about the wedding that didn't happen. Mukaddes is somewhat hurt that they didn't invite her. Selim says it was probably a good thing that they didn't get married, since there's no point in getting married without our families present. He turns to Mukaddes and says he's referring to her and to his mother, Nilgun. Mukaddes suggests that they can get married at the end of the summer. Selim says, "How about tomorrow night?" Mukaddes thinks that's much too soon, there's too much to do. Selim says to leave it to him. "The ceremony will be in our garden, and afterwards we'll have a small celebration."

Mahir doesn't want Melisa to go with Arzu, who he still thinks is betraying him with "that man," Kaya. Melisa reminds him of his relationship with Ozlem. She then accuses him of kicking Arzu out without ever getting her side of the story. "That man" raped her. Mahir sits there, stunned.

Nilgun comes to see Melisa. There's clearly distrust on both their parts. Nilgun tells Melisa that Selim and Cennet are going to get married. They were going to get married yesterday, but Cennet disappeared. Melisa tries to act as if she knew this already. Nilgun continues, 'I guess they'll get married in a few days." Melisa accuses Nilgun of saying this just to upset her. Nilgun tells her, "You're going to stop the wedding. You love Selim. You have to do this."

Selim and Cennet are talking about the wedding. Cennet says that her grandmother will come with them. [I assume she means that she wants Mukaddes to live with them. That seems to me something you don't just spring on your husband-to-be as a non-negotiable demand. Oh well....] Suddenly they hear the sound of a car crash. Sure enough, Kaya demonstrates his love for Arzu by smashing his car into hers. [A metaphoric reenactment of his behavior 23 years earlier?] He tells Arzu, "I want only you. I'll kidnap you tomorrow." Cennet sees Kaya and Arzu and tells them, "I want both of you out of my life."

Arzu insists that she did not choose to save Melisa and leave Cennet. "I didn't choose anything!" she maintains. Cennet retorts, "You didn't come back. From now on, you are nothing to me." Mukaddes too gets into the act, telling Arzu, "You bring only misfortune." When Arzu insists that she was going to save Cennet, too, Mukaddes insists, "If I couldn't have saved the other daughter, "I'd have died with her. You don't deserve her. I never would have left my daughter there." Cennet and Mukaddes hug each other. Cennet cries. Arzu tells Selim, "Take care of her," and then she and her driver leave.

As Kaya is standing there near his somewhat damaged car, who should appear but Our Hero from yesterday's episode, the guy who saved Cennet from the burning car. According to dondi356, Our Hero's name may be Nejat. Nejat approaches Kaya and tells him he's a mechanic and his shop is nearby. He offers to fix Kaya's car. Kaya's not interested. Nejat then asks whether he's related to Cennet. This gets Kaya's attention. Nejat tells him about his saving Cennet. "Let's go to your shop," says Kaya. However, once there, Nejat is disappointed that Kaya doesn't trust him to fix his car. Kaya explains that he's not going to drive it anymore. He gets up to leave, and puts money on the table. Nejat won't accept it. "That's not the way we are here," he tells Kaya.

Selim assures Cennet that no one will try to harm them any more [Viewerville shudders at his foolish words]. He and Cennet hug. Nejat has come back to see Cennet but is out of sight. He sees Cennet and Selim hug. He's holding the jewelry that Cennet left in his car. He looks down sadly at the jewelry and leaves without being seen.

Mahir goes to his safe and takes out a pistol and some ammunition.

Melisa comes to see Cennet. Melisa greets Mukaddes, who asks her what she's scheming now. Melisa says she has changed. Cennet is her sister. She and Cennet embrace. The look on Melisa's face is hard to interpret. I want to believe that she's sincere, but her odd look doesn't inspire confidence.

Nilgun and Melisa talk by phone. It's not clear what Nilgun's specific plan is, but it's clear that she wants to prevent Selim's wedding to Cennet and is again urging Melisa to help her. Nilgun's seriousness is apparent; she tells Melisa, "I would kill myself to stop the wedding."

Cennet confides to Mukaddes about her conflicting feelings about Melisa. "Now she's my sister, and we love the same man." Mukaddes advises her, "If she really loves you like a sister, she'll make the sacrifice."

Arzu comes to see Mahir at work. He thinks she has come to argue about the shares in the company that Sema wants to take from her. Arzu tells him that she's not here about the shares. She suggests that they have dinner together to talk. Mahir tells her that he knows about Kaya and her. Melisa told him. She hadn't meant to do so, but she did. "Your life must have been a living hell. I'm devastated." Arzu isn't impressed that he's devastated. "You never asked me anything," she says. "You were always so quick to judge me."

Kaya comes to the restaurant where Arzu and Mahir are having dinner. Arzu goes into the ladies room, where Kaya, holding a pistol, grabs her. "You have two options. Come with me now, or I'll kill you right here." And, of course, that's where the episode ends.
 

Cennet

Juanita, what a spectacular recap! It is so thorough. I really enjoyed your asides and I totally agree! No one would ever know you came so late to the story.

Just one small thing but I’m not 100% sure on it. I think Mahir asked Arzu to come and she is still at the company when Kaya shows up in the ladies’ room. Kaya asked the receptionist to gather Mahir and Orhan for a meeting in a few minutes.

We don’t know if Mahir has his gun with him. If so, someone will likely get shot—probably the wrong person.

Mahir has his faults but he is not a bad guy. He’s a weakling who is incapable of coping with all the strong women in his life. Mahir did ask but Arzu didn’t tell she when she had the chance. Who is she kidding? She doesn’t want to talk about her past with anyone. I still can’t stand her.

I saw the look on Selim’s and Mukaddes’ faces when they heard Cennet include Melisa in her family. I felt the same way. Melisa cannot be trusted! I’m going to despise her to the end.

There are hard feelings between Nilgun and Melisa. Melisa told Selim the truth about his adoption. I laughed when Nilgun said she asked herself “who is crazier than me?” and “like magic” Melisa came to mind.

Can’t excuse rape, but now I wonder if there is something else in Kaya’s past that affected him. We really don’t know anything else about him except he was in prison for murder.

Just my opinion: Cennet and Selim won’t get married yet. If both manage to make it to the end, that’s when they will finally marry.

I'm sorry, dondi356, that I'm replying so late to your comment. It's been one of those days! Thanks VERY much for your enthusiastic response to the recap, and thanks also for pointing out that the ladies room was in the company's building, not the restaurant. I'm sure you're right. I also appreciated your including Nilgun's wonderful statement about trying to think of someone crazier than she is, and, like magic, up popped Melisa's name.

I wonder whether you'll be right about Selim and Cennet having to wait until the very end to get married. That certainly is the telenovela tradition, and perhaps it would also give more reason for introducing Nejat so late in the novela.
 

Cennet #93 part 1

Time’s up, Cavidan. What decision did you make? Kaya forces Arzu out of the building at gunpoint.

Cennet and Melisa have coffee in her room. Cennet hides some wedding info that’s on her desk. She is clearly uncomfortable. Melisa talks about the accident. She doesn’t know why her mom chose to save her over Cennet. Melisa says, if it were her, she wouldn’t have left Cennet there.

Get out the hip waders, folks, the BS will get deep!

Melisa has been thinking about all her wrongdoings; she admits she wanted to kill Cennet and she can’t forgive herself. (I refuse to forgive her, too.) Clueless Cennet excuses Melisa’s behavior saying, you weren’t well then. (good grief Cennet, buy a clue) Melisa continues to shovel the BS. She says, she shouldn’t have done it, no matter how much she loved Selim. Now she realizes how much she loves her sister. If she knew Cennet was her sister, she wouldn’t have done anything. She wants Cennet to know her actions were motivated by love. She is sorry.

Melisa explains that she has loved Selim since childhood. She has some of Selim’s belongings with her and tearfully goes through a recitation of memories associated to each. He doesn’t know she has kept them. Melisa says, these are his things and now these things belong to you. Melisa realizes it’s not healthy for her to keep them. At this point, Cennet hesitantly tells Melisa, Selim and I are getting married tonight.

Orhan and Mahir are in the conference room waiting for Kaya and Arzu. The assistant comes in and Mahir asks for them. She says they just left the building. Mahir takes off and sees Kaya’s car speed away.

Melisa is crying. Cennet tries to comfort her. She’s happy for Cennet and says there’s nothing more important than her sister. But Melisa can’t help feeling bad because this hurts so much. Melisa keeps pushing the sister angle. This is clearly getting to Cennet.

Melisa gets up to leave saying, you have to get ready for your wedding tonight, right? I can’t ruin your special day. Cennet says, wait, Melisa and runs after her. I can’t get married without my sister by my side. Melisa says, don’t worry about me, this is your day. You’re going to marry the man that you love. Melisa continues to toy with Cennet’s emotions and Cennet keeps falling deeper. Just then a seamstress shows up to fit Cennet with a wedding gown sent by Selim. Melisa speeds off in her car.

Cennet looks lovely in her dress but she doesn’t look happy. Mukaddes asks if she’s worried about Melisa. She tells Cennet, if it was reversed, you would be doing the same thing. Ay Abuela, Melisa is my only sister. Having her by my side makes me a little stronger. Now Cennet is not sure she should go through with the wedding. Mukaddes listens, then says, don’t worry, everything will work out.

Melisa shows up at Nilgun’s. She’s made her first move and hope it works. Nilgun is worried. Melisa has a question--and what will happen if we stop the wedding? Nilgun says we’ll deal with that later. Melisa says she will never leave Selim. She’s not like Cennet. This will will cost Nilgun. Melisa says you will deal with me now. (Nilgun has made a deal with the devil!)

Cennet #93 part 2

Selim looks handsome in his tux. Pinar is supervising the wedding prep. Selim tells Pinar that Cennet will be here soon as he has sent a car to pick her up. Pinar reminds him that the custom is for the groom to pick up the bride and he leaves. (I guess it’s not bad luck in Turkey to see the bride ahead of the ceremony, but I don’t like this.) Nilgun asks and Pinar says Selim went to get Cennet.

Mahir is watching Halil pack his car and then drives off after him. We see Kaya on his boat with Arzu. She’s tied up. Arzu says, let me go, you’ve tried this before and this won’t work. Kaya says this time we will be at sea for days or even years. You won’t get away. (Give up Arzu, you can’t talk sense with Kaya.)

Selim arrives for Cennet. Mukaddes will go with the driver.

Mahir has followed Halil to the port. He sees him walk towards the boat. He sees Kaya. He can’t see Arzu. Halil warns Kaya, they will look for you. Kaya responds, let them try. They say their goodbyes and Halil leaves. Mahir gets out of his car he has his gun.

It’s wedding time and the guests are arriving. The judge is there. Pinar is helping with Cennet’s final touches. Cennet looks nervous. Nilgun comes to take Pinar outside. Melisa shows up to see Cennet.

Get out the hip waders again.

Melisa tells Cennet, I only came to wish you well. I’m leaving. I’m taking a flight. She reminds Cennet that she is most important to her. Never forget we are sisters. They hug. Cenett stops her from leaving. She needs her sister with her today. Melisa says, I need to take this flight. I’m not ever coming back. Cennet won’t allow this. (Notice they keep showing a picture of Selim between them.)

Cennet pleads, you know what I went through. My life was a lie. But I finally found the family I never had. Now my parents are dead to me. But I still have my sister. (with a sister like this, who needs enemies). This is our chance, let’s make the most of it.

Melisa reminds Cennet that they both love Selim. One of them must lose. Melisa is hurt but she doesn’t want to hurt Cennet. Cennet feels for her sister. Melisa says, not to worry, she will eventually find someone else to love. But she will never be able to replace her sister. They will meet again someday. They hug again.

Kaya is making final preps to sail. They will cruise around the Aegean and to Greek islands. Mahir approaches the boat. He’s on the gangplank; looking in he sees Arzu tied up. He signals to Arzu to be quiet. He points his gun at Kaya while his back is turned.

Kaya turns and drops his glass. Stop or I’ll shoot! Mahir unties Arzu and tells her to run to the car. He says the police will be here soon. Kaya goes for the gun; a shot is fired in the air and Mahir and Kaya go at it.

Cennet walks out to applause. Selim is captivated. Melisa is there in the back row. She walks up to Cennet and tells her, I stayed a bit longer for you. Don’t cry, this is your big night. Selim walks over to them. He takes Cennet arm in arm and Melisa watches as they walk down the aisle to more applause.

Cennet #93 part 3

Cennet and Selim stand before the judge. Nilgun looks back at Melisa nervously. The judge starts the ceremony. Selim, without pressure from others and under your own free will, do you take Cennet to be your wife for the rest of your life? Selim happily declares, I do! Applause. Cennet do you take Selim, blah, blah, blah... Uh oh, she’s staring at Melisa. Cennet breathes heavy, exhales and says, no!

Cennet looks at Selim, forgive me, can’t marry you. She runs away, leaving poor Selim standing all alone. Everyone is in shock. Nilgun smiles and looks back at Melisa. I think Melisa is shocked too.

Kaya and Mahir are having a knockdown, drag out. When Kaya tries to leave, Arzu gets into the action and kicks him where it hurts. Mahir gets hold of the gun again and pistol whips Kaya and knocks him out. Meanwhile Arzu tripped on a rope and fell overboard. Mahir goes looking for Arzu. Mahir sees Arzu’s clothing in the water and jumps in.

Seiim takes off after Cennet. What happened ? Cennet cries, forgive me, I shouldn’t have done this to you. It’s ok, says Selim, you haven’t done anything yet. (is he for real?)

Mahir has pulled Arzu out of the water and is doing CPR. Come on, Arzu! Kaya comes to and sees what has is happening. He calls out, Cavidan! Mahir manages to revive her. She will be ok. Kaya looks on. Kaya asks Cavidan for forgiveness. Mahir says, stay away or I’ll kill you with my own hands. It’s over. We hear the police sirens.

Cennet tells Selim she had no choice. Melisa is eavesdropping. Selim says let’s try it again and this time you will say yes. Cennet asks what about Melisa? She also loves you and she’s my sister. Selim has finally heard enough and pointedly asks, since when? She’s not your sister. What did she tell you? How did she persuade you? Cennet says, you don’t understand. Selim doesn’t understand. He calls her out as indecisive and a liar. All he knows is she agreed to marry him and then humiliated him at the altar. Selim feels he deserves a better explanation apart from Melisa. Cennet can only cry.

Kaya is questioned at the police station. Kaya says this is all a misunderstanding. When Arzu comes she will straighten this out. Arzu and Mahir enter. Mahir shouts, this idiot kidnapped my wife! The policeman asks Arzu, did Kaya Demiroz kidnap you? She replays Kaya’s blackmail threats in her mind. What will she say?

And we are out.

What a magnificent recap, dondi356!! You not only capture everything, you also include delightful asides. I especially like "Get out the hip waders, folks. The BS will get deep!" and its echo later on. And also, of course, "(with a sister like this, who needs enemies)." I too wondered about the Turkish custom of having the groom go to bring the bride. (Perhaps because the novela is being shown in the United States, this time the custom does bring bad luck!)

I'm not all that surprised that Cennet was taken in by Melisa's professions of love for her sister. I found myself wondering for quite a while whether she was sincere or whether this was part 1 of her plot with Nilgun. Perhaps if I had seen the novela from the start, I wouldn't have had any doubts that she was up to no good.

dondi, I hate to ask this, but could you briefly explain again Kaya's blackmail threat. Kaya had said something to Arzu about her involvement in whose death--Selim's father's? Your notes said that the circumstances of Riza's death were covered up by Arzu and Cengiz, and that Cengiz was ultimately killed by Kaya. So I'm not sure what Kaya's threat refers to.

Thank you, Juanita. I’m so glad you joined me on this crazy ride and I’m happy to clarify.

Riza recognized Cennet’s talent and took a liking to her. He was affected by her life story and promised her he would use his resources to find her mother. When he discovered the truth about Arzu’s past, he confronted her when they met at the summer house. Cengiz was with Arzu as support.

Riza was furious with Arzu. He felt this was the ultimate betrayal. How could any mother abandon their newborn? Arzu and Cengiz pleaded with him to listen before judging. It was no use, Riza vowed to expose, fire and disown Arzu. He stormed out with Arzu and Cengiz running after him. They started to argue again outside. Riza, with a history of heart problems, began to weaken and fell to the ground striking his head on a rock.

Riza died instantly. Arzu wanted to call for help right away, but stupid Cengiz thought that would be a mistake. He said no one would believe it was an accident and the best thing to do would be to get rid of the body. Arzu thought this was crazy but Cengiz persisted. He said they have a lot to lose and now they are in this together. He forced her to help him dig a grave, bundle the body and bury it. What neither of them realized, was Halil was tailing Arzu and took pictures of all of this.

There was a search to find the missing Riza. Later we found out Cengiz went back and dumped the body at the shore to make it look like Riza had a heart attack while fishing and fell into the water. Everyone accepted this version of events.

Anyway, Kaya emailed the photos to Arzu and Cengiz. Their relationship began to suffer under the strain of the coverup and possible exposure. Cengiz threatened to reveal Arzu as Cennet’s mother and pin Riza on her, too.

To protect Arzu, Kaya edited her out of the pictures and used them to set up Cengiz’ “suicide”. Cengiz miraculously survived Kaya’s point-blank shot to the head. Kaya finished him off by pushing his wheelchair down the stairs.

Now Kaya is using the original cover up pictures to blackmail Arzu.
