Don't you hate it when you sisters kidnapper ruins your coffee date? Imperio de Mentiras #4 09/24/2020

Hello patio peeps! I hope everyone is doing okay, tonight's recap will be short and snappy, if I miss anything please feel free to add it in the comments section.

Leonardo finds Elisa at Julia's house, he chases her out of the house and a short car chase ensues, these people have no regard for the other motorists on the road, anyhoo, Leo catches up with Elisa, handcuffs her to himself and drives her to the scene of her father's murder- this has got to be the worst field trip ever. Leo badgers Elisa and she finally tells him that her father was involved with some bad people and that these same people believe that he was in possession of some stolen artifacts worth a lot of money and they are demanding that Elisa find them and return them.

Leo then drives Elisa to the police station so she can give a formal statement but this backfires when Elisa instead says she wants to file an official complaint against Leo for the continued harassment of her family, for entering her art gallery without a search warrant and for handcuffing her and forcing her to go to the station. Leo's co-worker (is that his brother?) tells Leo that he could be sued by Elisa and lose his job, he makes it clear that Leo is putting the investigation at risk and both their jobs are on the line- and he (co-worker) has a family to provide for, kinda harsh to say that to a guy that just lost his pregnant girlfriend. In the end Elisa decides not to file the complaint against Leo.

Meanwhile Renata and Marcelo are at the office working on their take over of the company, Renata orders that a memo be sent to all the company employees alerting them to her being the new head cheese and her husband as her right hand man, her plans are derailed when her mother shows up and tells her that she is in no condition to take over the company and that as the majority stakeholder she has made the decision to place Elisa as the head of the company, Renata then drops a major bombshell when she tells her mom that Elisa sold 30% of the company to Eugenio.

Speaking of Eugenio he came to Victoria's rescue when she was being questioned by the police. The popo suspect her of killing her husband because there's video of her following him out of the party, she admits to doing this and says she followed him because she believed he was being unfaithful, but she lost his car in traffic and went back home, she also claims to never have heard about Julia, as the interview heats up Eugenio shows up with an attorney who promptly ends the interview. Victoria asks Eugenio if he knew her husband was having an affair with Julia, Eugenio claims that they never discussed such things.

Elisa meets Fernanda for coffee, she tells her that she is being extorted and that her father was up to no good, Fernanda says her father would never do anything improper but Elisa disagrees, suddenly a little boy outside of the coffee shop starts hitting the window while calling for his mom, we learn that Fernanda has a son that she did not want, her mom forced her to have the baby. We don't know who the father is and  no one knows Fernanda has a son because he does not live with her and she hides him because only "poor women have children out of wedlock". Well, that was dark. Elisa gets a phone call from the kidnappers who give her a new task, she is to transport some stolen art from Mexico to New York where she is to use her gallery to forge paperwork that would make the art work seem legit.

Elisa's day gets worse when she gets to the office and is met with both Renata and her mom, her mom is upset that she sold part of the company and Renata is upset that she's not head cheese. Elisa explains that the company was buried in debt and that without selling a portion of it they would have gone under, Renata says she does not trust her and demands to cash out her stock in the company, both Elisa and Victoria beg her not to do that. Elisa tells her mom that she is flying out to NY the next day to take care of some pressing matters, she promises to bring her sister back with her.

Elsewhere Marcelo is plotting with Sonia, the want to get their grubby hands on Eugenio's money and they need to do it carefully if they don't want to end up dead.

The good guys learn that the Cantu firm was deeply in debt and that Elisa is flying out to NY the next day.

Leo goes to Julia's home and questions whether any of them know why Julia was with Agusto, did any of them hear her leave? They all claim to know nothing BUT in a surprising twist we learn that Julia's mom actually did know that Julia was leaving the house in the middle of the night and that it was not the first time that Julia had done this but she had promised her mom that this would be the "last time" she did it. My best guess is that Julia had a shaddy side hustle to help pay for her dads medical treatment and this is what got her killed.

Elisa gets to the airport and finds that there's someone there watching her to make sure she sticks to the plan, once in the plane who should happen to show up? Leo.

In Mexico Victoria asks the rehired Fernanda if her daughters had opened Agusto's safety deposit box- Fernanda has no idea there was such a thing and Victoria asks her to leave, once she thinks she's alone she opens the box and pulls out some paperwork while Fernanda secretly watches.

** Majo's would be rapist gets the living crap beat out of him and he totes deserved it!**

**Elisa's pants are hideous and I can't take her seriously as a CEO when she's running around with a backpack that looks like one I had when I was in 5th grade**

Thank you, Juju, you got it all splendidly.
I was thinking the same thing looking at Elisa's backpack. Girl, you're 30 years old, running an art gallery in NY and about to be at the helm of a multimillion pesos company - buy a designer purse, will you?

One other thing I remember was that Leo's cop friend, Octavia, thanked Elisa for not pressing charges. Elisa was a bit worried that she might have caused big problems for Leo, she only wants him to back off. Octavia offered her phone number, in case Elisa ever needed her. And gave a glimpse into Leo's character - he's the kind of guy who will do anything for those he loves (or something like that) - Elisa took notice.
Jose Luis is Leo's brother, indeed, and is afraid that Leo's interference in the case might cost them both their jobs. I do believe that he's coming on a little too strong, too, especially since his wife is no delicate flower - way to rub your family in your bro's face, dude, the guy just lost his future!

Not that Leo seems all that bothered, though. The forced kiss from capitulo 1 was not his fault, but now I can totally see him fancy Elisa - Julia has been dead a few days, isn't this too soon? Morals aside, I'm starting to see some serious chemistry between Leo and Elisa, and I'm here for it.

Anyone care to speculate what was Julia's side business? Could be something completely harmless, that would keep her sainted image intact, or could it be something darker?
I guess it's safe to say Fernanda is one of the people Elisa should trust the least!! Keeping your child hidden because it would make you look poor? That is all kind of messed up.

Just speculating here, but could Renata not be Victoria's biological daughter? She is being way too harsh with her when she should be trying to protect her and help her control her illness. The age difference is a clue, the way she speaks with her (even Elisa called her out on it a few episodes ago)... we'll see.
She did mention that she's the majority stockholder, so that's why she gets to decide who the new boss is. And apparently, Augusto's will was no big deal, he left her in charge. Boo, I would have loved a little bit of drama surrounding that.

Princess!

Your recap was amazing. Smart, savvy and sassy - just beyond.

"this has got to be the worst field trip ever" had me smiling away. Your wit tinged with sarcasm always hits just the right note. I savored every single word.

"she hides him because only "poor women have children out of wedlock". Well, that was dark". Extremely. Elisa IS in the depths of despair, but really, you'd have to be deprived of all your senses not to see that disturbing scene unfolding.

"Leo is putting the investigation at risk and both their jobs are on the line- and he (co-worker) has a family to provide for, kinda harsh to say that to a guy that just lost his pregnant girlfriend". I concur and am not a fan of the bro. Or his unappealing wife.

Renata continues to spiral out of control and we are seeing the (at first) seemingly sweet Fernanda has many layers. As they are being peeled back we are seeing a determined, duplicitous, dangerous woman who has betrayed her friend Elisa in many ways. How many remains to be seen.

Victoria's steely demeanor also suggests she has secrets of her own.

Thankfully Major was rescued in time. Majo hanging onto her captor bothered me though. If there is to be any hint of attraction or romance between the two, he is going to have to get rid of his perpetual scowl and snarling demeanor at least for a bit.

"Morals aside, I'm starting to see some serious chemistry between Leo and Elisa" was spot on Adriana Noel. It is percolating quickly destined for a full boil. Poor Julia seems destined to be replaced , barely cold in her grave.

So Julia's mother must have known where she was going, despite being unhappy about it. Julia's father is decimated. I applaud the casting against type of Adalberto Parra almost always plays a villain.

"Elisa's pants are hideous and I can't take her seriously as a CEO when she's running around with a backpack that looks like one I had when I was in 5th grade* was my hands down favorite. But I have to say, despite some truly heinous outfits and a perpetually bad hair day, Boyer slithers and sizzles remarkably well.

Princess, this was a real treat. Thank you!

Diana

Thank you JuJu. Short and sweet works for me.

1 Pleather pants 2 sizes too big are hideous. Little Mermaid backpack beyond nutty.

2 Grubby Henchman looking for a little action got a scosh more than he bargained for, less than he deserved. My musings about Dario the new and improved breed of bad guy was on full display last night. How many times had Dario warned / interrupted stupid grubby nutjob to keep his hands off Majo? There is really an interesting SOMETHING evolving with Majo and Dario. It is not Stockholmn Syndrome (think Patty Hearst) as best I can see, but it is really interesting and actually is believable. I'm really curious to see where this goes.

3. Just jump into your little Fisher Price pedal car and outrun the popo in his car? If you are not willing to trade some paint, don't bother little girl.

4 So Elisa is going to lend a hand to the 'Artifact Gang' by becoming one of their smuggling mules? Like putting out a house fire with gasoline? DUMB. Fits right in with the Pleather pants and car chase.

5 Fernanda More bad people with some good and good people with someREAL bad. Yuk.

6 I am beginning to wonder if Vic and Uncle Rug are in cahoots somehow. I didn't like the way they walked out from her popo interview all smug arm in arm.

I don't think I like any of these people. Except the two I should not even be interested in, Dario and Majo. Maybe Dario will surprise us. He has nice teeth. but his hair looks like his three year old gave Daddy a haircut while he was sleeping through the fourth quarter.

I knew I recognized Sonia from somewhere, she was Ivonne in Tres Milagros, which I don't think anyone here on Caray watched. Sandra Kai.

Thanks again Princess Juju

Diana ..Tough guys don't smile much. It dilutes the toughness.

Adrianna, I suspected that Julia's side business must have been something similar to Elisa's NEW side business. But they dropped that tidbit about leaving in the middle of the night, etc. and we know she could not have hidden flights out of and back to Mx from Leo.

It is my understanding that in the drug world attractive, young innocent girls are a favorite for clandestine transport of contraband as obviously, they look far less suspicious than, say, henchman who Dario beat the shit out of. We saw somebody transporting dolls full of something recently didn't we?

I liked the way Leo handcuffed Elisa to himself. She proly liked it too but won't let on that she did.

Princess Juju, thank you for a bouncy recap.

I agree that Elisa's pants were an issue. I noticed that when she jumped out of car to confront Leo, one pants leg was up and the other was down....been there, done that ..got rid of those pants . However, her dad was just murdered, her sister was kidnapped , and she is scared to death , so I am cutting her some slack on the wardrobe .... I have trouble picking an outfit out most mornings .

Fernanda has a secret child ...who is the dad?...Auggie ? We are beginning to see that Fern has many layers.

At least we know who Renata is ..it's right there...you get what you see..BSC.

Leo is growing on me , and I agree that chemistry is bubbling between Elisa and him . I think Angelique is very good at creating chemistry with her leading man. I think that she could create some chemistry with a chair . However, there is something about Leo's staring eyes that bothers me. He has good hair and a decent haircut , but he needs to stand-up straight and be a little more proactive and confident . He always looks slightly embarrassed and unsure to me.

Dario is scario. Listening to the sounds of the beating he gave Grubby Creepy Guy was awful. I thought that he had killed him . Majo's reaction was understandable. No matter how scario Dario is, he saved her from Grubby. I'd give him an enormous embrace. I agree that Dario's haircut is regrettable ,but odd haircuts seem to be a thing recently. There were some weird ones in Vida.

DIANA, I agree about Angelique, that she is truly shining in this one, despite the unflattering wardrobe.

KIRBY, good idea about Julia being used as a mule. It has been said several times that she was the main provider for the family, that is a big burden, she probably thought she had no choice.
I've been thinking about Stockholm syndrome, too, why do you think that's not it? Either way, I'm interested to see how their connection develops- but if Dario turns good, I hope he does it fast because for now, he's not much of a prize.

Good work. Being brief is difficult for these kind of stories.

Fernanda definitely is on the Bad list at this point, but how old is she that her mother could prevent her having an abortion X years ago? Makes no sense but for the sake of drama...

If Renata is only Victoria's stepdaughter why has she not gotten nasty about it yet? This woman is so full of hatred for her sisters and so unwilling to do what is best for herself that this would make total sense. However, the character descriptions make Renata 10 years younger than SG.

The age difference between actresses often has nothing to do with their characters' age differences. The most recent version of the Reyes brothers' story -- Tierra de Reyes in 2014 -- had Sonya Smith as the evil mother and the actress playing her oldest daughter was only about 10 years younger than she. In Abrazame Muy Fuerte in 1999 Cesar Evora was too young to be the father of Fernando Colunga and (at least in the late 20th C) marginally too young to be the father of Pablo Montero.

The entertainment industry has no rule about age differences in any sector. It is impossible in the opera world to have a rule like this, as voice type is the determining factor when casting relatives. The first time I saw Aida the bass who played the pharoh was young enough to be the son of the mezzo who played his daughter.

More later.

Adriana I don't see Stockholm because Majo is not really identifying with the goals or ideals of her captors, nor with any of the captors, she just sees the one bright spot in an otherwise grim situation she is in. Dario who for as yet unknown reasons has right here, right now protected her. He on the other hand, kidnapped her to begin with, and it would be easy to say he is protecting the only commodity they really have, Majo.

But we all see there is more to it than that. He didn't just pull Grubby Henchman off her and fit her with a chastity belt, he beat the livin bejeesus out of the guy. It was not just business, it was emotional, that last little kick to the head when Grubby was already ready for the Emergency Room showed us that.

KIRBY, I agree that Dario's reaction was emotional - must be quite a fight going on inside him, too, if he's starting to feel stuff for Majo. Thanks for clarifying Stockholm for me, I only had a general knowledge about it. We'll have to wait and see how this relationship evolves and what will happen when Majo is finally released.

URBAN, I know real ages mean nothing when it comes to playing a part, I was just speculating. Tierra de Reyes was the worst with character ages, and so was Pasion de Gavilanes, where the abuelo needed very heavy makeup to appear older than his onscreen daughter.

Fernanda's kid looked about 10 (??), if she's 30 like Elisa, she would have been about 20 when she had him - a little too old to be coerced into keeping the child, but not impossible, depending on her circumstances. It's awful that she was forced to keep a pregnancy that she didn't want, but the fact that she doesn't acknowledge her child is even worse.

So glad you're recapping PRINCESS JUJU. Will only be watching sporadically but great to have you back!!!!!

Princess Juju:
"these people have no regard for the other motorists on the road," "this has got to be the worst field trip ever"
"he (co-worker) has a family to provide for, kinda harsh to say that to a guy that just lost his pregnant girlfriend"
re: Marcelo as "the new head cheese" was that an intended pun?? Head-cheese is ewLLY phew!
"Elisa gets a phone call from the kidnappers who give her a new task, she is to transport some stolen art from Mexico to New York where she is to use her gallery to forge paperwork that would make the art work seem legit." Obliged to you for clearing up the details on how she was to use her NY gallery to effectively pull a fast one with stolen art goods. I misinterpreted a lot here.
I can't take her seriously as a CEO when she's running around with a backpack that looks like one I had when I was in 5th grade"
Terrific snark, PJ! You hit it out of the park with the snarkometer. Thanks!

Thank you everyone for taking the time to comment!

Hi Judy B!

Let's talk about Renata, does she actually have the experience needed to run the show or does she think that because she's the older sibling she should automatically get the job? Also, are people with diagnosed mental disorders not allowed to have children? If Renata's condition was under control through medication and perhaps therapy would she be cleared to have kids?

I find it frustrating that Elisa has told no one that little garlic has been kidnapped. This is what I'm calling Majo because her name runs with ajo which means garlic.

If I say it in Spanish and listen in English it comes out My Hoe.

Thank you, Princess Juju. This was great.

Juju, we haven't been told what exactly is wrong with Renata but schizophrenia seems likely. She likely has a chemical imbalance which means she has to stay on these medications for life. The doctor told her in ep 2 that pregnancy hormones could interfere with these meds and that the meds themselves could cause damage to the fetus.

If there was no DNA issue with her eggs she could have a surrogate, but she would never pass the psych eval.

Could you imagine her dealing with crying, diapers, feedings around the clock?

Marcelo looked scared out of his mind at the idea of her getting pregnant. He should get a vasectomy ASAP.

Oh Re-Nada is a complete nut job. Urban is much more adept at putting into words what is clinically wrong with her, but she has no business having anything to do with running a business concern, much less producing and rearing offspring. There is ZERO chance of any children turning out an iota less nutso than Mommy. We have probably every one of us seen that in real life. If not, just turn on Court TV and watch like Bizarre Murders, Crime Stories, Serial killers, you know, those shows and see how fruitcake's kids turn out.

Urban: "He should get a vasectomy ASAP." Hopeofully Sonia keeps his count down to a safe level.

Children are a lifetime commitment, Renata is in no shape to take care of a baby, the little we've seen her has made this perfectly clear. Babies are HARD, they drive you crazy half the time, they can turn a perfectly reasonable person into a mess.
With Renata it would only be worse, especially since she has no support system. Her husband is a cheat, her mom seems to hate her half the time, she herself despises her sister.
I hope that down the line she gets her meds straight and is able to have a good life with a decent guy. Maybe Jose Luis, Leo's brother could work since he seems to be already married to a nutjob, so he'd have the experience and patience to deal with Ren.

Juju, excellent recap and the sides made it even better, thank you!

Busy day with little time to comment, so I'll keep it brief...

Agree about the horrid pants and everyone's opinion about Fer. I'm not sure what role she played in the stolen art, but if she is cold-hearted enough to deny her own son, sher scruples are quite questionable. And IF the boy is Aug's son, the boy would be the only male offspring he had...wouldn't he have included him in his will?

Julia could very easily take trips without Leo's knowledge. Leo lives in another city, Monterrey, I think. In the first episode, Nieves (Julia's mom) invited him to stay at their place, but Leo opted to stay with his mother.

Girl cop's name is Adriana. I like her role in this much better than in "Ringo."

Thanks Juju!

I’m not that surprised that Julia’s mom is keeping that secret. But there’s likely more to tell. Can’t wait to see more and if she’s able to keep that secret for much longer.

So is it likely that Fernanda’s son is Augusto’s? Hmmm that’s definitely interesting and so is the fact that her mother didn’t want her to have an abortion or anything. Fernanda clearly is refusing that role

Something that confused me: when Marcelo and Sonia were video chatting and Eugenio walked in, it looked like Sonia completely closed the screen but Marcelo could still see and hear everything. How?

I can’t say if I think Majo has Stockholm syndrome but yes Dario saved her and maybe she prefers that at the moment only he tells her what to do. Killing her wouldn’t really solve anything for him and I’m sure Eugenio is keeping him in check as well.

I’m glad Victoria essentially put Renata in her place. She can’t control her own life so how could she possibly control a company.

Elisa tells Mom Vic and Renutta that she has to fly out to NY and will be bringing Mojo back. HUH? What gave her that (bad)hair brained idea. I do not remember Dario and the Dastards promising anything of the sort. Is she just buying time in lieu of any plan thigh might make sense?

Fe
I’ve recorded thisTelenovela and I’m catching up with the episodes. Thank to all of your recaps, I am figuring out the characters and their relationships to each other.
I may have misunderstood the conversation between Dario and Elisa but I thought he told her that when she returned from NY, having delivered the art successfully, her sister Majo would be freed.

Juju you have done a good job with this minicap.hit all the good stuff

A question, did fergirl really say such a stupid thing as," only poor women get pregnant out of wedlock"?
What happened to her brain cells to make her think such stupidness?

So happy someome came to majo's
Rescue. Wouldnt it be great if dario is deep under cover and he didnt really kill anybody but he did beat the crap outta ol geezer rapest guy, a well deserved beating
Did he kill him? I dont think he'll
Be raping anybody anytime soon cuz
I think he stomped the joy out of his joy wand. Is there such a thing as a good/bad guy? I suppose it will depend on how bad the bad is
And if the good can over come the bad. Ogosh I sound like Im in a soap opera. Ill let the writers and yall figure that out.

Kirby maybe dario told her that during the commercial. That majo woild be releast. But from what I saw last night majo aint gonna wonna leave him. And he seems to be
Gettin attached too. With a sad look on his face.

Ranata is exhausting. Why didn't they try to help her when she was a small confused child? And I wish the hubby with the bad hair day would just stop it. With the hair.
They keep showing this scene in the
Open credits about marcelo beaten and bloody and in jail and somebody
Is wrapping a twisted hangmans sheet around his neck. Steve get your death list ready. Tio probably
Found out about him and sonia. That
Is her name? I can't remember these
Peoples names, the woman that was
Nuts enough to marry uncle Rugmop.

Good recap Juju. Thank you. Happy weekend yall.

Welcome to the patio, Fe! And thank you for adding that info. Sometimes local stations will cut part of a scene to allow time for local ads, so it could be that some may not have seen what you saw.
