PRIMETIME on Univisión (#1): Médicos: Linea de Vida & Dulce Ambición - Week of Sept. 7, 2020

Greetings, Caraymates!

Welcome to page 1 of Primetime TNs/Series. “Dulce Ambición” may have had a gory start last week, but things are calming down and the story, which Di is providing recaps for is an interesting one! Lila continues to grace us with her entertaining recaps of Médicos: Linea de Vida. If some other brave soul(s) would like to contribute a recap or just some highlights for MLDV or DA, it would be greatly appreciated. You can also add to or clarify scenes/details, especially those that are favs or not-so-favs. The TNs covered by this page are:

7PM – Vencer el Miedo
8PM  - La Rosa de Guadalupe
9PM –  Médicos: Linea de Vida (The slaughter makes numbering worthless L )
10PM – Dulce Ambición: Ep. 5-7

Friendly reminder:  PLEASE put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “MÉDICOS”.)

Monday 7 Sept recap NO VIOLENCE LOTS OF CAKE

Part I

When we left Maria da Paz last week, her pregnancy is progressing and she has launched her cake business selling on the street and taking orders from neighbors. But upon hearing that her hometown love Amadeu is dead (a lie cooked up by her mother and mother-in-law to end the family feud), her water breaks and she goes into painful labor.
The baby, though premature, comes out ok. The doctors are so happy! No caesarean here! The new little girl goes to the incubator, even though she looks about four months old. The doc says baby will have to spend a few months in the hospital. Marlene insists on seeing the new mother and they make an exception, and she also gets Maria an upgrade – a bed with a pillow in a corner with several other women on mattresses packed in at all angles. The smiling doc says, Hey, how’d you manage that!
The baby will need extra care but she’ll be fine, the smiling doctor says. I’ll name her Josiane, and she’ll be the love of my life, says Maria.
Marlene is kind of pissed off that Maria was sent home so fast after giving birth. She’s going to make Maria a nutritious chicken soup, but Maria wants to get started on making some more cakes!
Evelina, Maria’s mom, is talking to the village priest, sad that she hasn’t seen the six month old baby, and very sad that she still does not know where her other granddaughters are.
In what looks like it’s going to be her standard outfit of cherry prints, head wrap, gold hoops, wide red belt, tight pencil skirt and red platform heels, Maria fixes her makeup, pumps up her bra, and is back out on the street with the cakes, between remembering Amadeu in the field and visiting the preemie ward at the hospital.
As Maria beats her batter, Marlene and the car owner seem to be getting along very well. So, Maria, what about opening a pastry shop? The car owner just happens to have a storefront available no one is using. I hope they don’t wreck it like they did his car!
See, even though you witnessed a massacre, everything really is going to be all right if you keep a positive attitude and BAKE. Let’s call it Bolos da Paz/Pasteles de Paz/Peace Cakes! Somehow new furniture has been bought, more cute outfits are styled, bank papers are signed, and the café pastry shop is a big success. It’s a good thing the baby was in the hospital all this time!
On the day she’s come to pick up her baby girl at the hospital, there’s a new nurse on duty because most of the staff is taking care of the victims of a big accident. Oh, says Maria da Paz, whatever. Here’s my file and I’ll wait for you to bring her out.
Marlene has brought a crib to Bolos da Paz so the baby can stay in the café, and another neighbor has brought a stroller. The neighbor has custody of her niece, and Maria remembers that she has two nieces that are missing. Oh well, free cakes for everyone!
Amadeu is getting cosy with the physical therapist, Gilda. He’s telling her he’s finished with Rio Vermelho and those people. I want to go to São Paulo, and I want to go with you. Will you marry me?
But don’t you still remember Maria da Paz? I loved her but I love you differently. Will you marry me? They kiss. Next scene, they are having a country wedding with fiddlers and, was that a yodel? Amadeu’s mother is pleased as punch. Amadeu still limps and in pain. He wants Mom to come to São Paulo, but thank goodness she says no. She’s going to take care of her grandson in Rio Vermelho.
Maria is LOVING the cake making business, and she has some young ladies working with her now. Her signature cake seems to be a big bundt, plain or with chocolate icing and strawberries on top.

Part II

Whoa, how the business has grown! Conveyor belts churn out cakes, she gets a fancy car, her signature outfit and jewellery look much more luxe, and the clientele seems very fancy. Grown Josiane drives up in her Mini Cooper, complaining about how her mom has no time for her. Maria wants her to love the business as much as she does, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be her thing. See you back at home! We need to talk, says Josiane.

Everybody wants your cakes, her partners tell Maria. Everyone except… Maria thinks but puts the thought out of her head. She has two very cute young men assisting her and they LOVE her.

One of the boys is Eusebio´s son. He´s entered the business. And he works out at the boxing gym. EYE CANDY ALERT Sweaty pecs and abs!

Eusebio and his wife also have a daughter who favors an 80s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun look. Eusebio wonders why they are still living in the same ol dump when he should be Maria da Paz´s partner. Oh, take it easy, the others say.

The kids are Radisson and Sabrina. Marlene laughs that Sabrina dresses like a prostitute. Maria and Marlene and Eusebio´s wife bond for a moment about being mothers of 20 year old girls.

Maria goes to her new home and it’s colorful, like her. Josiane thinks her name is too common. Don’t call me Josiane, I told you I´m Jo. It’s more chic. And my credit card limit is waaaay too looow. And mom, you dress like a Christmas tree. It’s soooo embarrassing. (Josiane is more a mustard yellow linen Calvin Klein pants suit kind of gal.)

Josiane recalls how the kids at her fancy private school made fun of her for having a mother who was common and low class. I just want powerful people to know me and respect me. Please increase the limit.

Maria says, You never told me about all of this. But now is the time to reinvest in the business. It is not the time to spend but to save.

Do you want me to be a pastelera, a cake maker? says Josiane with disgust. Maria is shocked.

I was thinking Maria da Paz was doing a Carmen Miranda look, but by the end of the show, I think she's ... Mildred Pierce!

MÉDICOS #39, 9-7-20

Hola, Peeps! Well, here we are again! Our little medical drama is not quite offering us the respite from the worries of the day, but alas, it is much better than a stick in the eye! We’re here for the Spanish and the company, si? Once again, under the pressures of three dimensional life, scenes are combined so I can get back to the salt mines; corrections and expansion welcome! ¡Vamonos!

A brief reprise of Auroro the Horror shooting daggers into Gonzalo’s soft eyes as he repeats that his offer to help her still stands. Always! We’ll catch up with Gonzalo later. Paulina has just left Mauricio’s room and reports to Luis that he is doing very well. She’s got to get back to her office; she invites him for a coffee, to chat, catch up. Luis gives a too prolonged no just like the hug she insists on before leaving, which he has to break off. She’s very glad to have seen him; he says take care.

Pam is getting coffee in the breakroom. Tania deliberately slams the door, startling her. [Must be something that was edited out.] Tania sits down; Pam shares how terrible it is what happened to Dr. Molina’s girlfriend and how worried she is about him. Tania agrees it is terrible, but he’ll get past it and in less than two minutes gets Pam to confess that she likes Arturo! [Say whaaaat! Did y’all see this coming? I kinda did, but dismissed it!] Tania asks what she’s going to do about it? What CAN she do; Dr. Molina would never give her a second look! Speaking of Art, Luis sees him in the lobby and is surprised. They sit for a moment. Art is feeling mas o menos, so-so; he wanted to get back to work to distract himself. Luis is pleased that Art had a heart to heart with Regina. Luis updates Art on Mauricio and asks: guess who his consulting private Pediatrician is? Paulina! They continue to chat and part with advice for each other: Luis advises Art to take things with calm; both getting back to work and with Regina; Art advises Luis to feed Paulina with a long-handled spoon! [That means keep your distance from her!] Much later in the evening, Luis returns home and greets Susana with a soulful gaze and passionate kiss. He accepts her offer of wine. She asks how his day was. He perfunctorily tells her Mauricio is extubated, doing well and he hopes he is discharged soon. Susana’s spidey-wife sensors go off! What’s going on, she asks? Nothing, he’s tired. They go to Gabriel’s room; he is already asleep and seems to be sleepy most of the day. Susana is still concerned. Luis looks at her, takes a breath and says, “Something happened in the hospital today.”

Regina goes to Gonzalo’s office and finds him still in the throes of Aurora’s uber negative vibe. He tells Regina what happened; he cannot believe she has so much hate in her heart! In an effective role reversal, Regina listens and then supports the positive action he has already taken, counsels patient waiting for them to react as well as to try his best to look at the situation with a cooler head and heart: Like he always told her in trauma medicine: evaluate the situation and then act! Gonzalo unloads further about Rene’s undermining his authority and distorting the events of the last few difficult days to Montesinos behind his back, and that he chewed Rene out. Regina has further bad news; Diego is responsible for the missing medical supplies. He was trying to help his poor community; it is a good cause, but still a crime. Gonzalo puts the ball back in Regina’s court: this is her team and her staff; she must make the decision. In the future, with all the pressure they’re under, they all have to be more attentive to what’s going on around them!

MÉDICOS #39, 9-7-20

Later in the day Regina meets with Diego to confirm his story: Did he really take the material, how did he send it, etc. Most importantly, why didn’t he talk to her or to Dr. Olmedo? They could have found a way to help his village. Dr. Olmedo has many connections to foundations that would have happily helped his people! Diego is so repentant and, while admitting he did not think of the consequences, he fully acknowledges that what he did was wrong and accepts full responsibility but begs not to be expelled from the residency! He swears he’s not a bad person! Regina understands; she did rotations in underserved communities as a Resident and she knows the need is dire. She’s afraid that with this act though, she will not be able to trust him the same way again. Regina says she cannot promise that he won’t be expelled. They will meet with the Director, Dr. Gonzalo Olmedo, in the morning. Afterwards, Diego updates Pam; she doesn’t want him to go, either. They hug. In other Resident news, Paco tells Daniel they are facing some financial challenges but tells him he, Paco, will take care of it; Daniel is to concentrate on finishing his residency.

Paulina goes in to see Victor, who actually manages to smile, especially when he hears how well Mauricio is doing. It doesn’t take long for the smile to turn upside down as he wales about the awful care he’s gotten at the hands of these inept “Doctors!” Paredes and Galvan WILL PAY! Paulina does manage to talk him down; she’s known Dr. Galvan for years; he is an excellent Doctor and she’s sure that if they did the surgery in the ER bay, it was what they HAD to do! She tells him he and Mauricio are alive thanks to the efforts of these Doctors! Paulina finally makes a personal appeal: Dr. Galvan is important to her and she doesn’t want to see him in any legal trouble. She leaves. Later Sandra and Victor visit Mauricio together. Victor asks his son’s forgiveness. Mauricio says it was an accident. Ever primed to bicker, Victor looks at Sandra and says it was an accident that could have been avoided. Mauricio entreats his Parents to not fight, not now and once they get back home! They promise! Welp, that lasts until they get outside, each being wheeled back to their rooms. Miryea intercepts Victor, takes over his wheelchair. She reminds him of the terrible, outside-the-OR procedure he has had. “If you feel the least bit of discomfort, don’t let them discharge you! If you sign the discharge papers, you release them from responsibility for what they did to you!” He thanks her. Miryea quickly reports to Rene that Victor is trying to back out of the suit because “he’s so grateful that they saved his son’s life!” [The note of sarcasm with which this is said has sealed her ticket to novela hell….Rene already had his!] The next day, Rene brings his pet rat in on a leash and presents him as a Doctor who was present at his operation. Rene cues Marco to regurgitate: “It was malpractice.” Victor looks victorious. [Sucker!] This is actually the episodes last scene. To finish with the snake, Rene and Constanza are at home. He is unimpressed that the Guerreros are coming to town. Who are they? Constanza tells them they are just the owners of the biggest construction conglomerate in Guadalajara! They’re coming to begin construction in the central commercial district. They’ve been invited to attend a welcome breakfast for the Guerreros. Rene blows her off, Constanza calls him ignorant; she always has to do everything alone! She storms off while Rene reads something aloud from his laptop on emergency medicine. Uh oh! [Personally, I am Puff deprived! Where is that sweetie pie!?]

MÉDICOS #39, 9-7-20

David is taking a breather outside the hospital on a bench. Ana stops by and surmises he’s throwing a tantrum over Regina. Short and sweet: She has seen Art and Regina together; they left the hospital together and arrived together the next morning. Frankly, she’s happy for them: they have a lot in common! They’re finding a chance to be happy together and he should as well. David needs to face the truth; Regina wants Art and not him. David doesn’t want her? That’s fine; she just does not like to see him suffer; he needs to find somebody and move on because he deserves to be happy! Well, there’s happy, then there’s hubba hubba happy! David finds that as he makes a date with Perla/Jacky/Random Chick at the gym. Seriously though, RC is a very smart Girl. She lets David decompress mournfully about Regina, how they seemed destined to be apart; how he tries to keep his distance but it’s impossible because he sees her and works with her every day. Now she is with someone else and it’s hard to accept; he doesn’t know how to resolve things. RC says, love is “..not something you resolve, it’s something you feel. Here.” We don’t get to see where “Here” is. He accepts her diagnosis and treatment; we see them later in bed. David flips through some darling pictures of his beloved Regina and then puts down the phone. It rings immediately: it’s Ana. He looks at it and tosses it back on the table. RC reaches out her hand to touch David’s chest.

Art and Regina talk in the break room after a long day. She encourages him to take a day off when he needs it. He thanks her asks how was her day. With a crank of the neck she tells him about Victor insisting on suing the Instituto for malpractice and Montesinos pressuring the ER! Regina reluctantly accepts a dinner invitation. At the restaurant she tells Art about Diego stealing medical supplies; she consulted with Gonzalo; he is supportive, but it’s her responsibility to handle it. They talk more deeply about how he is doing. He is doing better. He clasps her hands and tells her he doesn’t know what would have become of him without her. At the end of the evening he walks her home and tells her she is like a dream come true for him and moves in for a kiss which she accepts but breaks off. What’s wrong? Regina wakes Art up out of his dream. She cares for him, but not like that; she will be there for him, but as a friend. They need to get past the pain and grief of this crisis time and then see what happens. Art reluctantly accepts it and he even draws a comparison between Regina’s advice that he take care of himself before trying to love with counsel he always tried to impress upon Cecelia. Regina gives Art a friendly, parting kiss on the cheek and bids him to rest. This is at the same time that David is looking at her pictures on his phone as he lay beside RC. Moments later Regina sits on her sofa and rewinds with more pain than passion, her kiss from Art on the beach and Ana’s kiss on David’s cheek outside his room in Puerto Vallarta. THE END FOR NOW.

MEDICOS

Lila, your recap was far and away superior to last night’s episode. Anger, frustration, longing and fear were all evident, yet even a scintilla of happiness for anyone seems to be absent.

I am always appreciative of any and all vocabulary so thank you for “mas o menos”, so-so.

Your recap was excellent!

“Aurora the Horror shooting daggers into Gonzalo’s soft eyes” and “in the throes of Aurora’s uber negative vibe” were perfectly descriptive of Gonzalo’s fire breathing ex. Such cold, hard hatred is difficult to fathom, given its origin.

“Ever primed to bicker, Victor looks at Sandra and says it was an accident that could have been avoided”. I suggest he leave the family home. As the main source of consternation, his wife and son would definitely be happier without him. And definitely, more at peace. Sandra’s persistent headaches are still cause for concern so it does not appear the family’s troubles are abating.

“Rene brings his pet rat in on a leash and presents him as a Doctor who was present at his operation” made me smile – it described the situation perfectly! Art did at least have the grace to look uncomfortable.

Tania did slam the door when she entered the doctor’s lounge and I was wondering why. Yes, something must have been cut. Pamela is smart and kind. Art wouldn’t be my first choice for her but am willing to see if it becomes a possibility.

Art is not getting he has been relegated to Regina’s “friend zone”. David has his hackles up around Regina and seems oblivious that being sharp tongued and indifferent might not be the way to her heart.

I hope Gonzalo has pity on Diego.

Does it really matter what Luis says to Susana?? He is hopelessly in love with Paulina, who continues to weave her web, despite knowing she has already trapped her prey.

Lila, another exceptional recap. Just wonderful. Thank you, thank you.

Diana

DULCE

Thank you Di! Sorry again for the page not posting on time. I have no idea what happened since I had scheduled it to post at the same time as usual...must be the cyberghost playing tricks on us :-D

Wow, Paz'z bizness sure took off fast! And Paz definitely had the Carmen Miranda luuk! Your comparison of Paz to Margaret Pierce is spot on, but I also thought of Carol Burnett's Mrs. Wiggins LOL

I was really surprised to see that Marlene was living in the same house after 20 years. I would have thought that Paz would have bought her a nicer home since she helped and supported her so much.

Was it you, Di, that commented about Amadeo and the PT ending up together? Spot on!! But I didn't like that he told her that it was a different kinda love...that should be a red flag for her.

Just want to add a scene that I especially took note of since it could be important later...MUCH later--

When the nurse first took Paz's baby to the incubator, she commented to the other nurse (that was there) that Josiane was premature. The other nurse responded that the baby she was with was also born premature that day...and it was also a girl!!! My first thought was "OOOH! Switcharoo time!!" But they never mentioned it again, so it may just be my imagination gone wild...again LOL

MÉDICOS

Lila, thanks for another stellar recap!

Art is turning into Cecilia; why does he not see that and why is Regina allowing it. She needs to be as persistent in squelching his advances as he is in making them.

I'm really getting frustrated with David. Maybe he is holding back because of his insecurities which stem from his former foot deformity??? Whatever it is, he is losing ground fast!

I used to think that Art might be a good match for Pamela, but the way he is behaving...NAAHH!

Medicos

Lila, thank you so much for covering everything that unfolded last night .

I did think that Pam liked Arturo, and I think that in the end, they will get together. Pam would e The perfect kind, understanding shoulder for Art to lean on. She is empathetic as compassionate and would be good for Art.

And I guess David finally succumbing to GymGirl's buff charms is supposed to show us that he has given up on Reg and decided that Art has won . Ugh . Blech. No.

Medicos

A few more random thoughts swirling in my head .

I was amazed to see Paulina in heels while talking to Luis . Que ??? I know She is tiny, but I dont think doctors wear heels at work. OW.

Aurora is refusing to allow Gonzalo to help Her with herewith problems . Make no sense. My mother would call that " Cutting off her nose to spite her face. " My mother had a million sayings for every occasion that called for advice.

The two camps are firmly established now....the good, empathetic , ethical folks just trying to lead good lives, and the bad who are only interested in power and money and getting what they want . Ugh

Herewith = her health ...sorry...hurrying

DULCE

Thanks DI and RGV CHICK. I've only seen part of this, but like you, Chickie, when there were two preemie girl babies born at the same time, and in incubators right next to each other--and then the regular nurse was not on duty when Paz arrived to pick up her child...well, YES! That explains, "telenovela-wise" why Josiane has not grown up bonded with and loving her mother. I always cringe at these stories of hard-working parents sacrificing everything for ungrateful, cruel children because it happens that way in real life. And it hurts so terribly. Okay. Enough of that. THANK YOU BOTH!

MEDICOS 39/48

Good work, Lila.

I don't see Pamela's attraction to Arturo gong anywhere and I hope she doesn't embarrass herself because of it. That would be disastrous for her and she doesn't deserve that. She is very talented in her specialty.

So is Diego. He is an excellent diagnostician and it would be a disaster if he didn't make it through this residency. He has the right temperament, he doesn't panic easily in emergencies, and he cares about people. Will we ever meet his parents?

I would love to see Marco have nightmares about what he's doing.

Miryea quickly reports to Rene that Victor is trying to back out of the suit because “he’s so grateful that they saved his son’s life!” [The note of sarcasm with which this is said has sealed her ticket to novela hell….Rene already had his!]

That is seriously important. Our Nurse Ratched here deserves a dire fate, but since this is not a traditional Televisa production, we may have a long wait. However, put me on record as saying that the actress is doing her job well and should get combat pay for having to get jiggy with such a repulsive partner in crime.

I also miss that cut dog, but it happens too many times that a character's dog disappears from the series without explanation. Except for the cute little dogs in UFCS, of course.

Dulce

Di, thank you so much for the recap. Maybe I will watch now that the cakes seem to be replacing the guns .

Chickie, it does seem that we are being set up for a baby switcheroo.

The lead actress has a very strong appearance . I do see Joan Crawford..... or maybe Sophia Loren.

MEDICOS

Thanks Ms. LILA for managing to watch and write and post and still handle your full-time career job and second-full-time job at home. You're a trooper sweet lady.

Was watching this at breakfast time when the power went out. We have a generator for electricity but the cable was down for hours. So have only seen a portion.

Your promo for our show cracked me up: "MEDICOS...better than a stick in the eye." Well, yeah. Lots of manufactured misery but we can survive, right?

And loved this:

"Art advises Luis to feed Paulina through a longhandled spoon."

Some great folk wisdom there, but clearly our Ms. Paulina is determined to have the spoon, the arm, and the rest of the body that comes with it. One formidable lady determined to bust up a marriage and a family. And Luis is teetering, as Diana noted.

"Ever primed to bicker, Victor.." Oh so true. And of course there's always Mireya ready to prime the pump if he's not. What a sad intersection of characters. I will gladly help you send both René and Mireya to Telenovela Hell, and we may add Victor and Pet Rat to the package. Ugh. Double Ugh. Triple Ugh. And Ugh to the infinity.

As for David and Random Chick and Saboteur Ana, what can I say? We'll just have to let these crazy people work it out whenever the script writers let them.

Yeah, I thought Pam had a wee crush on Arturo. It would be hard not to. Heck, if I worked there as an intern I'd have a number of crushes going. Halfway nice, all the way handsome, add in the usual hormones of the age group and there's a buzz going all the time. Again, we'll see if the writers are going to play this for real down the line or just leave it hanging. It IS, after all, JUST a story and we're here for the Spanish and the Patio. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

DIANA...I think my mom had the same kit bag of aphorisms that your mom did. I've heard every one and then some from my mamita. Only difference, it sounded like your mom was really sweet and gentle. My mom loved us, but Lordy, it was "my way or the highway" ALL the time. Short fiery redhead with a temper to match.

MEDICOS

Hey, Diana! Girl, you make me feel right chipper! You nailed last night's episode: Anger, frustration, longing and fear were all evident, yet even a scintilla of happiness for anyone seems to be absent.

Oh, Diana! When are we going to get some lovin' vibes! Lordy! They're so cruel to us! Art gets dumped, though some of us are glad; Silly goober, Luis has as much game as a pimply-faced teenaged boy around Paulina and Susana sees right through him; I guess the Pam and Art thing are crumbs they're throwing to us?

Hola y gracias, Rgv Chick! You are right about Art; I saw pathology in him from go! Pamela doesn't need him, either! Pamela has such a big heart and loves to help people: let her form a power couple with Diego and literally save his little pueblo! Art is wounded too deeply from long ago!

Susanlynn! Gracias, Amiga! So, you think Art and Pam could be a go! Hey, that's fine. Let somebody kiss and mean it. THIS IS A NOVELA!! Oh, sorry, didn't mean to yell.

My mother had a million sayings for every occasion that called for advice.

God Bless your Mom and people of that generation! I love me some sayings: I think they hold a lot of wisdom. Younguns in my family don't get them and mock them. Silly rabbits!

Susanlynn, I don't think David's giving up on Regina. We know what why he "visits" RC, and we're not mad at him! Don't lose faith, Susanlynn!

MEDICOS

I see you, Urbanita and JudyB! Get back with ya soon. Gracias! Gracias!

MEDICOS

I burst out laughing at your comment to Art's advice to Luis to "...feed Paulina through a longhandled spoo." Judy.

Specifically, "clearly our Ms. Paulina is determined to have the spoon, the arm, and the rest of the body that comes with it". Wonderful.

Although sadly it does appear Paulina is "One formidable lady determined to bust up a marriage and a family". I suspect she could "get" anyone she wants. MUST it be Luis??

And my mother (like yours and Susanlynn's) did have some sayings, But the one I never forgot is her admonishing us to "be kind". That never left me.

Diana

Medicos. I don't see how you manage to keep churning out these incredibly wonderful recaps, Lila! Whew! Rene is just having Marco give false information about his treatment to Victor. I was afraid that after the Mereya-Rene conversation that they might kill (or otherwise harm) Mauricio to get Victor to keep pursuing his malpractice suit. Hmm. Yep, Susan Lynn, Pamela and Arturo. Well, he could use a lifetime psychiatrist. But my money, like UA's is on Diego. Aren't the Guerreros Cinthia's parents? Or is her father some other real estate/construction mogul with a project in Mexico City?

MEDICOS

Hey, Urban! ITA about Pamela and Art but I do hope she and Diego could start something!

Urban, both Rene and Miryea are so far from unethical in what they're doing to patients, specifically Victor, I just can't find words anymore for it! Unholy Cow! They have GOT to pay for this!

And Marco, tsk tsk tsk! I wonder what his Dad would think about what he's doing? He doesn't go along with this sort of thing, does he? He didn't strike me as a crook!

And bad news. Cute dogs disappearing. Drat! No lovin' and now they cut Puff's role! Gracias, Urban!

Hey, JudyB! Oh noes! Your power went out! Consarnit!

Paulina is baaad news! clearly our Ms. Paulina is determined to have the spoon, the arm, and the rest of the body that comes with it. Yes ma'am! Poor Susana!

Ok, you also saw Pam pining for Art. Ok. This is too cute: Heck, if I worked there as an intern I'd have a number of crushes going. Halfway nice, all the way handsome, add in the usual hormones of the age group and there's a buzz going all the time

Yah. Well, sigh. So, do you think they're going to push the petal to the metal and get this over with to make room for Ms. Boyer on the 21st?

SpanProf! Thank you, Girl! I'm hangin' in for the lovin' Span! Yep, the Guerreros are Cinthia's parents. The day of the artificial heat wave in the hospital, Rene went to one of Cinthia's patients rooms to make sure the patient was not only steamy hot, but pissed about it. Cinthia confronted Rene and he mocked her last name. I don't know what that was about!

"DULCE":

RGV Chick: Just wait until Paz faces massive roadblocks especially Bratty Virginia, who will make life HELL for her.

MEDICIOS 37/49

This can't be finished by the 21st even if Univision does the triple-down like they did for three weeks during PyP. This has 87 total episodes, with 38 to go and only 9 broadcast days to the 21st. We should prepare ourselves for a time period or network change if the don't move LRdG to daytime.

Medicos

Judyb, " manufactured misery"..yes, but right now , I find it preferable to the creal life misery swirling about. So onward . My mother was also a tiny redhead ... hot tempered and critical .

Lila , it is so kind that you comment on the comments . It is always nice to feel you are being recognized and heard. Thank you.

I did not realize that Cinthia's father's company is The one Rene was talking about coming . That should stir the pot.

One thing I will give to Paulina, she defended Luis to Victor.

You would think that the Bickersons would dial things back and give each other some slack at this troubled time , but ...no...more important to keep ratt!ing each other's cages . So stupid.

I like The idea of Pam and Diego forming an altruistic tag team , but they do not seem attracted to each other.

As for David and Gymgirl, I guess he just got to the point that he had to get someone to help him move that couch. Ana was setting him up to turn to her for some assistance , but....no . That scene of David stretched out on the metal bench was so odd. Was it symbolic of how uncomfortable he is feeling emotionally ? " Let me just !is here on this cold, hard metal surface . " Very weird .

Lila, terrific job. ...much better than a stick in the eye -- great starter!

Paulina does seem to care for Luis. Very sincere sticking up for him with Victor. I'm like Luis, trying to stick with his wife, but she's not giving me much to hang onto. Always sitting on the couch waiting for him, ho-hum. This time, she was online shopping. Writers, give her a break. Can't you show her being into music or dancing, or something besides Luis?

I had no idea Pamela was crushing on Art. I like bushy brows Diego better for her. I don't see chemistry with Art.

Thanks, Di. See, even though you witnessed a massacre, everything really is going to be all right if you keep a positive attitude and BAKE. I'll bet Betty Crocker wishes she had said that!

I too was afraid the baby would be missing when that new nurse turned up. Rgv Chick, your baby switcheroo theory sounds plausible. Now that the baby turned out to be a spoiled ingrate maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

The country song playing in the background during a scene startled me, then I remembered a Dulce ad with Dolly Parton's "Jolene."

Thank you Lila!!

Better than a stick in the eye!! Hahaha love it!

Medicos has been the most viewed novela several days in a row now - most viewed across all time slots and all channels. Hopefully that means Univision will leave the episodes as they are.. there’s NO reason to “hurry up” this TN

MEDICOS

Lila, that scene where Rene sarcastically says Cinthia's last name was because when he first intruded into her area he called her by the wrong name, "Dr. G(can't remember exactly but started with a G)" in the manner of those people who don't even have the courtesy and respect to remember your name. She corrected him, which is why he made sure to say it correctly, though sarcastically, when he left. Jerk!

Thanks, Urban! I can deal with a time change better than crunching up episodes!

Hey, Susanlynn! That WAS damned decent of Paulina to defend Luis, and she was respectful about it, even when she made the personal appeal.

the Bickersons That's great!

That scene of David stretched out on the metal bench was so odd. Was it symbolic of how uncomfortable he is feeling emotionally ? " Let me just !is here on this cold, hard metal surface . " Very weird . I was thinking the same thing! It was worse than Gomez Addams on his bed of spikes! Yikes!!

Hola y gracias, Niecie! Interesting point of view on Susana? Do you think Paulina will "take him away" from her?

UnOp! Hey, Kid! Medicos is the most viewed novela? Wow! Okay, so maybe we ARE safe! Thanks!

Anon@2:53 Thanks! I couldn't figure out if there was some inside joke Mexicans or Spanish-speakers have about that name. So little does anyone but himself mean to him, he didn't even remember that name. The so-and-so!

Thanks Rgv Chick for filling in the detail about the two preemies. But with that long in an incubator, the bond was compromised anyhow. Maria da Paz says the baby will be the love of her life, but I think her cakes are more important. Not because she's a bad person, she just had so much trauma, baking is her therapy.

Steven Boudreaux, Yes, Virgínia also is a child who could not bond with her (adoptive) mother.

Amadeu´s new bride is still undeveloped. I barely caught her name, Gilda, and I don´t think I´ve really seen her face yet.

It is funny that Marlene and Eusebio et al are still in the same run down locations. I guess Maria is not really making that much money, or maybe they have rent controlled apts in SP that they don´t want to give up. Maria still hangs out with them and hasn´t traded them for rich friends, and even though Eusebio jokes about not getting some of the profits, they still adore her.

I like some of the social commentary that gets dropped in from time to time. Domestic workers rights, hospitals without beds. They kick new moms out right away in the US too!

Eusebio´s son the boxer is named Rock. In Brazilian Portuguese, final consonants have a ee sound added at the end, so that would be Rockie, or Rocky! Actually first Rs are pronounced like Hs, so that would be Hockey!

That was about DULCE

And thank you Rgv Chick for moving my recap. I knew I wasn´t going to be available in the morning to post in the right place so that was really a big help!

I think the David & Regina scenes that were cut have had a negative effect on how the viewers feel about David. I’ve seen a lot of comments on twitter saying “this is the guy we’re supposed to be rooting for?” and I can understand how people may not understand David’s attitude. Univision cut scenes where David and Regina were getting closer, so now it seems like David acting cold towards Regina is exaggerated. David has said he feels things for Regina he’s never felt before, they were building a relationship beyond being coworkers, David let himself be vulnerable with her. Now, it appears that Regina all of a sudden started a relationship with Arturo. It makes sense to me that David would pull back and try to reestablish a coworker-type relationship. David was not acting childish, didn’t throw a tantrum, didn’t beg Regina to give him a chance (like Art), he is simply going about his job. When this aired in Mexico, the general consensus was that everyone loved David, and viewers were upset that Regina had “chosen” Arturo over David (and they did not hold back their opinions on social media lol). Reading social media comments now, it looks like the US viewers are rooting more for Art. It is interesting to see the difference in opinions. It’s not an apples-to-apples comparison because US viewers didn’t get to see everything, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

I have not been keeping up with the episodes on Univision, but I have read all your recaps. I was wondering, did Univision air how the whole air-conditioning issue was resolved?

Lila, I want Luis to "want" to stay with Susanna, but he's acting like Paulina is sexy stilettos and Susanna is sensible shoes. Once Susanna stopped nagging him about work, I moved toward her. I'm trying to root for her as the wife, but I need her help!

Thanks, Anon!4:32! Why Uni would do this to a show is beyond me! There are some people with more than 10 minute attention spans! You know, if you're going to hack up a show, just don't freaking show it; stream it and let people watch the episodes they want but I know it's all about the money, and I guess that kind of format wouldn't bring in the doe!

Anon, all we got was that Gonzalo kept calling the company he thought the requisition was sent to. Of course, they never got it because Rene tore it up. Gonzalo finally fired that company, I think he asked Marta to find another and that was it. That's all I remember!

Thanks for reading and commenting, Anon!

Thanks, Niecie! .. I want Luis to "want" to stay with Susanna, but he's acting like Paulina is sexy stilettos and Susanna is sensible shoes.

That's just danged rich, Niecie! I hear you! Bone head Luis needs to realize that if THAT's what he wants; he can have his sensibly-heeled wife AND the Mother of his son. Send Gabriel to stay with his cousin somewhere for a week or two; have Susana wear stilettos around the house and use his imagination. Mamas may have told boys, "You better shop around," well the Daddies should've told 'em "Good girls got the same thing bad girls got!"

Now that I’ve mentioned similarities with Mildred Pierce, there is actually a scene in Mildred Pierce where one of her daughters dresses up as Carmen Miranda.

From the clip “My mother, a waitress!”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozf32hrXGiY

I thought Juliana Paes was so beautiful as Maria da Paz, but with her now 40s style dressing and some aging makeup, I see the resemblance to Faye Dunaway’s Mommie Dearest and I CANNOT UNSEE IT.

Médicos

Rene scoffed at the Guerrero name last night when his wife told him about the dinner plans. I think the point is that the name is too common and not associated with money. He hasn’t put together that the Guerreros are Cynthia’s parents either.

Even with the missing scenes, David acts like a teen. He’s way too old for his hissy fits. But Arturo is getting disappointing too.

Dulce ambición

The people living in those apartments do not leave because they are abandoned homes no one has claimed back. Marlene lives in one too, which is why she was nice to the squatters when they first arrived into her apartment and entered like they owned the place. She thought they were relatives of the owner.

It seems like the baby switch might be a card pulled out later. Josiane doesn’t resemble anyone so far, except perhaps Amadeo’s mother? Either way, hard to emphasize with someone who can’t appreciate what they have.

Maria has been looking for the girl’s in all these years, or has she forgotten them?

DULCE
Thanks for the clarification about Marlene and Eusebio's apartments, Anonymous. That's some more social issues being nodded to in this novela.

Everyone seems to dropped the search for Zenaida's girls. You would think their grandmother and father, or their father, would be going crazy looking for them.

Thank you so much, Di! I finally caught up and read this recap and will go back and pick up the others. I watched from episode 1. Wow! Granny! What a Boss Lady! Seeing the grown up Joseana sp?) is disappointing, knowing all Maria went through to even survive. But, I cut her some slack when I learned how she was rejected at school and pretty much her whole life. I know Maria loves her some cakes but it doesn't seem to match her character that she was totally oblivious to the pain of rejection Jos felt all of her life. Maria emphasizes that her cakes be made with Love and is so attentive to the customers; it seems incongruent that she never realized this and then, when she does, it's all about her: In the last scene she asks Jos if she is ashamed of HER?

Anyway, I made it through the slaughter. The cakes look yummy and I guess we'll see what drama the twenty-somethings bring and how the Virginia and ... gosh, forgot the other niece's name....how and when they will turn up with their matching lockets.

Thank you so much, Di!

Your "...thought Juliana Paes was so beautiful as Maria da Paz, but with her now 40s style dressing and some aging makeup, I see the resemblance to Faye Dunaway’s Mommie Dearest and I CANNOT UNSEE IT" had me smiling. I thought the same thing in the brief clips I've seen. Perfect.

Tues 8 Sept Recap

In the last episode, Amadeu has married his physical therapist Gilda and they are moving to São Paulo. Maria da Paz´s cake business is a huge success, so much so that her daughter Josiane, who prefers to be called Jô because it’s more “chic”, was privately schooled and Mildred/Maria is shocked to learn her daughter is embarrassed by her lower class mom.

Jô denies that she is embarrassed but recounts how she was teased so bad at her school. But I sent you there so you would be educated and so you wouldn’t be ignorant and now it was not worth it! Maria cries. No, Mommy dearest, Jô replies, I know you did everything for me, but for those people, I’m just the baker’s daughter.

Jô doesn’t like Marlene for example and this sets Milly/Maria off. Marlene did everything for us when you were born at only six months, you played with Rocky and the other kids! Jô still says a credit card would REALLY help. Milly says Jô is killing her. Jô keeps trying to make it up to Milly. She seems really sincere about making her mom stop crying. She’s got a great idea for her future. I’m going to be a digital glamour girl, an influencer. Huh?

So that’s like a model? Milly asks. No, mommy, it’s the internet! Milly says she doesn’t understand, let’s go to Marlene’s house. They bicker some more and Mildred keeps calling Jô JosiAAANNEE to piss her off.

Well, I guess Maria’s not exactly like Mildred Pierce! She is nobody’s doormat.

Rocky gets home to Eusebio’s house. Rocky is a budding boxer and I think his brother works for Maria. Maria shows up at Marlene’s next door and Josiane did come after all. Marlene wonders why Josiane is being friendly to her. They start to talk about what a digital influencer is, Jô is like, OK boomers. Finally older brother Radisson wearing glasses (that means he’s smart) tells Maria that influencers make millions! So it’s like being a medical doctor, Maria asks. Oy vey!

Rocky takes Josiane outside. I know someone who can help you because I know one of the most important influencers in the country, who trains at my gym. It’s Vivi Guedes!!!! Wow, I want to meet her! Rocky says you have to make up with your mother and convince her to have the baking business sponsor my boxing career.

If anyone forgot, Vivi is really Virginia, Zenaida’s daughter who went missing when Zenaida was murdered on the beach. She was adopted by the wealthy Guedes family and had some trouble bonding with her adoptive mother in the last episode. Since Zenaida was Maria da Paz’s sister, that makes Virginia Josiane’s first cousin.

Vivi is at a photo shoot with Miley Cyrus on the side track. “I want to do something more than just show clothes. I want to show a LIFESTYLE.” Her boyfriend suggests adding some animals. Her wealthy adoptive parents and grandma show up and everyone seems to be lovey dovey. Who has a dog? Ask the neighbor’s!

The chauffeur’s daughter wants a job and Vivi’s adoptive mom is trying to set something up.

Hey they got a dalmatian from the neighbour’s house and he matches her black and white spotted outfit. CHIC!

At the gym, Jô tells Rocky, You liar, there’s no Vivi Guedes here, when who should waltz in dressed in sky high heels and a long long braid that is definitely going to get stuck in some equipment. Viv brings two background dancers, Miley Cyrus comes back on the soundtrack and the three start dancing and writhing around the weight machines in slow machine synchronicity.

Vivi calls Rocky RockKKK, with a very pronounced overcorrection. Jô shows Vivi her instagram and Vivi is impressed and then starts going on and on about getting the neighbour’s dog in on the photo show. It’s not easy, it is not easy, Vivi laments.

I can find a professional to help you get likes, Vivi assures Jô. Kim has an agency I am sure can help you. They are very exclusive. Miley’s playing again, the background dancers are back, I’m going to go back to train, beijos/besos!!

Tues 8 Sept recap

Part II

Jô/Joss has invited Kim to a restaurant. Kim wants champagne! She instructs Jô how to order from a waiter the CORRECT way, saying “thank you” and “honey” in English. You have to INSPIRE kids across the whole country. Your clothes are ok. Get rid of the bracelet. Let me see your social networking so I can make an analysis. Good lighting, look ok, but nobody is inspired by this. What’s your name? Ugh! Joss Sobral is better.

She shows her a price on her cell phone and Jô/Joss is shocked. My mom will never.... Vivi continues, There’s a club tonight that’s having an auction where you need to be seen. You’re going to see how necessary I am. You are going to meet very rich, very “chic” people. Here’s an invitation. We’ll meet with your mom tomorrow to settle the money issues.

Sílvia is teaching Márcio English. Apparently they are in Maria da Paz´s office, and Maria walks in on them starting to kiss. Sílvia leaves.

Sílvia is Gilda’s sister, and lives with her and Amadeu and her son, Carlitos/Carlinhos. Amadeu is happy to host her because his legal practice, with its ups and downs, is now doing ok. They talk about Sílvia and her boyfriend getting married. Gilda says she is jealous, but Amadeu hugs her and kisses her and says she is his companion in life.

In Maria’s offce with Joss and Maria’s business adviser, they’re looking at the numbers. We’ll negotiate. No, Joss is horrified, these kind of people don’t negotiate. Everyone negotiates, says Maria.

I got an invitation to see and be seen, but I need the credit card limit raised, pleeeeeze Mommy dearest. Mamita! I need to stand out. Pleeeze help me! Ok, Maria gives up. A DEBIT CARD only. The manager says the limit is 10,000 reais. WHAT! Joss storms out.

Maria says her daughter’s father died and now that girl is the love of her life. I want to go to the auction, can you get me an invitation? Of course! he laughs.

Maria is dressed to the hilt in a tight reverse Marilyn Monroe Diamonds are a girl´s best friend red dress with a big bow on her chest and another on her head. When Josiane sees me dressed like this she will be so proud of me!

The event looks like a conservative wedding reception, big round tables, brightly lit, jazz band, everyone in black, white and silver. Vivi is flirting with her boyfriend Camilo, and look who else is there. It’s Régis! Oh, yeah, he was at her fourth birthday party, so I guess it’s not a big surprise. São Paulo is what, 39 million people, it’s just a big village!

Kim is in a black suit and she and Vivi get some champagne flutes. Vivi has very long earrings and is in silver lamé.

Régis orders two Moscows as he sidles up to Josiane at the bar. As the hotel jazz serenades them, she says, I know who you are, Régis Montovani. I never reject company, he laughs. Give me your cel number, he purrs.

Overhead shot, Marilyn/Maria has arrived and her red dress stands out in the sea of black and silver. Everyone is looking and whispering – loudly. Vivi mouths, OH MY GOD! Josiane is mortified. She quickly pulls off her bracelet and tells Régis she has to go and runs off. Marilyn blithely plops down in her spot with one of the neighbour ladies from the old squat as Régis goes running after Josiane. He catches up with her outside.

Maria is stumbling around the parking lot in her red dress and heels calling “Josiaaaannnneee!” Jô grabs Régis and pulls him for a kiss before he can turn to look who it is.

FIM for tonight!

"DULCE AMBICION":

Di: Maria Paz (like I've said before) will be facing roadblocks. Plus the girl in the conveant will likely become a vengeful blackmailer.

Bold Prediction: Body Count will increase fast before all is said & done.

OT:

Niecie: Since Angelique Boyer's new Telenovela is taking the 8:00 PM CST timeslot, "MEDICOS" will be moved to 7:00 PM CST.

"Rosa de Guadalupe" will probably replace "VENCER EL MIEDO" in the 6:00 PM CST slot.

¿Qué tal, Peeps? Well, I’m tempted to say the stick DID hit us in the eye last night and I think it’s time to take a deep breath and repeat, “it’s only a novela…only a novela!” Hope you all are well out there and if novela doldrums and chaos are your biggest problems, please know that thou art blessed! Peeps, este episodio fue bastante negativo que necesito ayuda; Por favor fill in details, if you wish, to share the pain. Please also emphasize anything you found joyful! ¡Vamonos!

Let’s get the prickly stuff out of the way first. We have a chain reaction of confrontations as Rene and Miryea’s plot to bring down the Gonzalo and Regina so that Rene can be appointed Director of the Instituto. Marco repeats to Victor that what the Doctors did in his urgent, life-saving operation was wrong, was malpractice. Rene feigns ignorance that Marco would confirm Victor’s charge of malpractice; Victor is incensed that a green horn Resident knew better than the seasoned Attendings thus successfully refueling Victor’s rage and desire for revenge. When Marco expresses doubt about this outright lie, Rene reminds him that once HE’S Director, Marco won’t have BS assignments anymore and will be the Hot Shot Resident in the whole Instituto! He should just freaking do as he’s told! Marco takes the first opportunity he gets to rub Diego’s face in the $hit Diego dropped by stealing supplies. Diego holds his head up and states he accepts responsibility and will repay every centavo. Marco tells him he NEVER will because he’s a muerto de hambre# loser who’s’ not going to survive residency! Marco strides off, his head held arrogantly high. [In my parts, an equivalency would be “you ain’t got a pot to piss in, or a window to throw it out of!] In a later scene when Tania learns of what Diego has done, she is pissed; Pamela continues to be supportive.

Rene tries to continue his reign of intimidation and manipulation by confronting Regina in the ER in front of many staff, loudly accusing her of not having control over her team as witnessed by Diego’s theft and Victor suing two members of her team! [Sorry, Peeps, I don’t have the stomach to give you even a summary of the “conversation,”] Rene’s denial that Marco was the source of his “information” about Diego confirms for Regina the truth of her suspicion. Regina stands up to him; is unmoved by his increasing volume as he plays to the ER audience. Her voice remains firm and we only get a signature crank of the neck after he’s gone to indicate her tension. In a later scene, Regina rips Marco another one. She is regally and righteously angry and essentially tells him his a$$ has struck out with the Attendings because he doesn’t know the meaning of teamwork. The ER is HER team and if he has problems or concerns with her management or anything that happens in the ER, he is to come to HER, not “administration!”

Regina takes Diego in to see Gonzalo. Both are stern and firm with him. What he did was a crime though it is good that he confessed. Regina has a folder with the costs of the supplies. I think it’s 250 thousand pesos. Diego has to pay back every cent and he’ll be put on a short leash. He is not to go into the supply room; a nurse is to get anything he needs and ANY slip up in deed or attitude and he’s outta there. Later Diego catches up with Regina to do more begging for pardon and thanking her for not having him expelled from the residency. Regina has two requests of Diego: Don’t show her that she made a mistake and give her a list of the things his community needs. She will purchase the items herself. Unsmiling, she waves off his thanks: she’s not doing it for him; she’s doing it for his community!

MÉDICOS #40, 9-8-20

In what appears to me at least, a screw up immediately after Diego’s chastisement: He leaves Tania alone in the ER for some non-specific reason! A pregnant woman (whom I think we saw earlier for prenatal counseling in the OPC) is wheeled in yowling in labor pain. Skip Miryea’s nasty non-supportive comments to Tania (an OB-Gyn Resident) who takes charge, gets the patient into a delivery room assisted by Rafa in anesthesia and by Lili. The woman starts to crash during the delivery and it almost seems as if an emergency c-section will be needed. Tania calls for the forceps; Rafa bags and resuscitates the woman and a realistically tiny, red and raw premature baby is delivered and whisked away to the NICU! Mother and baby are saved! Tania is rightly relieved and happy!

More prickly stuff: Luz, Regina, David and Luis talk about Victor’s refusal to pay the hospital bill and his determination to sue. David and Luis say they already tried that and hit a brick wall. Regina stands firm that neither they, nor anyone on the ER team or entire Instituto acted with anything other than professional and effective clinical judgement and care in an emergent situation to save Victor and Mauricio’s life. Her conscience is absolutely clear! Regina tells Sandra as much a bit later as she and Cinthia check in on her. Sandra is doing well enough to go home soon, but there’s a little problem of Victor refusing to pay the bill. Sandra is so sorry: she absolutely does not share his point of view and doesn’t know what to say. She has no idea where he’s hostility is coming from [this puzzlement about the origin of Victor’s rage could be key] and she will try to talk to him. We’ll pick up with Regina and Cinthia later.

In prickly stuff outside the Instituto, we find Paco taking out an eighty thousand peso “loan” due in thirty days at 20% interest AND giving up the deed to his house. Paco is able to pay the overday rent on his little store but is informed that the rent is going up 60% at the end of the year! Ah, CARAY! Paco reassures Elena they will be okay and declines her offer to sell or even hock her jewelry. Paco reassures her they will be ok: ¡Dios proveerá! ¡Dios proveerá! God will provide!

Ana tries to pump Art for information about his and Regina’s relationship as they wait in line at the Instituto’s favorite coffee house. He buys her favorite brew. Art is patient with Ana and lets her probe and ramble and offer her advice: Whoever you are with, just make her happy. That’s all a woman wants. If she is happy and secure in her private life, she will be at work as well. David gets a chance to be something other than frustrated and seems more relaxed as he gives Daniel his own advice about unrequited love and offers him the brotherhood of one who has been…or is there. Of course David doesn’t say who it is but just advises Daniel to buck up; he’s not alone, and he’ll get through it. Cinthia counsels Daniel, warning him not to get his hopes up over Tania again after observing a brief interaction between him and Tania. Cinthia’s Mother, Patricia, repeatedly calls Cinthia, who’s attempts to avoid meeting her for lunch are foiled as Patricia is camped out in the hospital cafeteria! Rafa makes an appearance; Cinthia introduces him to Patricia. Rafa greets her with a cheek press/kiss and croons that now he knows where Cinthia got her beauty from. Patricia is charmed!

MÉDICOS #40, 9-8-20 END

Let’s get to the closest thing to warm and fuzzy this episode brings us. In our second emergency of the day, a big burly guy is rolled in on a gurney. He is kind of delirious with erratic movements. David quickly diagnoses diabetic ketoacidosis! (Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious complication of type 1 diabetes . . .when your blood sugar is very high and acidic substances called ketones build up to dangerous levels in your body….healthline.com) Pamela is assisting David in the ER bay. When she leans down to attend to the patient, he smacks her sending her hurtling to the floor! David helps her up, she is dazed and has a bruise on her left check, but is able to continue the examination. David uses this as a teaching moment; he has her smell the patient’s breath as one of the assessment strategies. It smells fruity! Yes, this is one of the signs of diabetic ketoacidosis! David tells her diagnosis is not just a matter of lab work and tests, it’s using all of one’s senses to be attentive to how the whole patient is presenting. In a quieter moment, David asks Pam if she’s okay and tells her to use ice, and if it gets worse, take something for pain and inflammation.

Poor Pamela continues to suffer; she holds an ice pack to her swollen and hot cheek. Art sits across from her and asks to take a look. We feel Pam’s heart flutter as he takes her face in his hands and moves in close to examine the angry, red cheek. He pronounces she will be fine! Pam confesses that she doesn’t know if she can continue; it’s so hard! She was so excited when she was chosen for the residency, but she didn’t know it would be this way. Art becomes fully present with Pamela, listens to her, looks at her and restates and accepts all her worries and insecurities and forms a bond between what she feels and what he and every Doctor feels in her position. He normalizes these bad feelings as actually a rite of passage and an indication that one is successfully meeting the challenges of a profession rightly chosen! Art’s face and voice and eyes are soft as he punctuates his reassurance with a brief, affectionate touch of her face. He gets her a coffee and they continue to talk. Everything that she is going through is going to help her in her work with patients. It feels that Art is helped by the calm support he offers Pamela; support he tried to give to Cecelia without success. Pamela must take care of herself first; she has to be Ok, before she can help others. She thanks him. Art rolls in closer and presses the ice pack to Pamela’s cheek. After a moment she removes the pack and tells him she is the one who should be consoling him; she is also here for him for whatever he needs. Art thanks Pamela and says that his wounds will take time to heal. Pamela tells him with only a slight shy deviation of her eyes from his that she would like to be even more for him. [Did you hear that, boy!!!] Art says with time, he will be fine, pats her shoulder and leaves. [Does Pam hear the song gently playing?] Ahhhh!

Finally, the chain reaction that began the episode continues as we end on this discordant note. Ana learns from Luis about Victor’s lawsuit against him and David. She can’t believe the Instituto is about to face ANOTHER law suit because of the flaming ER and Regina! Ana marches her arse up to Regina and Cinthia, who have just left Sandra’s room. They worry about Sandra may be being emotionally abused in her marriage to Victor. Ana confronts Regina about the suit; Regina basically tells her to ABCDEF-off and worry about her own area! We end the episode with this argument! [Again, Peeps; I don’t have the stomach to give a blow by blow of this…Ana’s a bitch who sics herself on Regina at every opportunity!]

Loved this descrition, LILA:

"Art becomes fully present with Pamela, listens to her, looks at her and restates and accepts all her worries and insecurities and forms a bond between what she feels and what he and every Doctor feels in her position. So Art knows how to be "fully present" and "actively listen". Amazing. Because few people do. But how nice that our love-struck Pamela had someone who seemed to fully hear her, before he launched into reassurances. Must have been a nice scene. I haven't had a minute to watch this yet.

Otherwise, sounds like Mostly Misery, although I look forward to seeing raffish Rafa charm Cinthia's mother. Did he call her "suegrita" again. Such a fox.

Thanks Ms. LILA. You did it justice I'm sure, and made it fun without subjecting us overly much to the horrors of people behaving badly. We get enough of that in real life.

JudyB! Querida! I consider this a necessary mental health break to check the Patio to respond to mis amigos! I'm taking Art's advice. Gracias, de verdad! JudyB, it WAS a nice scene and I'm glad my description communicated that! There have been such a string of confrontational and negative episodes all presented in a tragic week for us here at CARAY. I needed that little scene and Art and Pamela were very sweet and radiated a healing vibe. Those actors are amazing!

Later, mis Peeps! Nose back to the grindstone!

Lila, thank you so much . Your daily recaps are always a bright spot in my day. I am grateful for your time , talent, and effort. You write so clearly and have a way with words. I would be lost without your recaps.

Watching evil , fictional folks do their worst is upsetting to me , but during this surreal time , it is even more so. People are getting thrown under the bus left and right . Any moments of goodness in this show or real life are welcome. One of those moments was between Art and Pam . Another was Reg talking to Diego. At a time when compassion and kindness is needed more than ever , we look for it anywhere it might be on tv or in real life.

So..do we know when "Imperio" is starting and at what time ? Will Medicos be changing time ?

Medicos

Lila, thank you so much . Your daily recaps are always a bright spot in my day. I am grateful for your time , talent, and effort. You write so clearly and have a way with words. I would be lost without your recaps.

Medicos. Thank you for another wonderful recap, Lila! And one of the nice things about telenovelas is that you know, despite people being thrown under the bus, and bad guys getting their way for a while, that in the end justice will triumph and true love will find a way--so reassuring, especially in these times. Diego's punishment seems pretty reasonable to me, and what a cool, generous thing Regina did in contributing her own money for some medical supplies for his village. It's getting obvious that Ana is almost as bad as Mireya in personal interactions!

MEDICOS

Another amazing recap Lila.

"she is regally and righteously angry" was my favorite line of many.

“Tania (an OB-Gyn Resident)” shocked me! Tania seemed not only frightened to the core as the pregnant woman was wheeled in but almost eye rolling in what seemed to be distaste. Daniel seemed to materialize out of no where just as I was wondering why other more experienced doctors were noticeably absent! Have to give credit to Rafa for being firm and handling his end like a pro.

Paco = Delusional. Huge sigh.

Had to smile at “Rafa greets her with a cheek press/kiss and croons that now he knows where Cinthia got her beauty from. Patricia is charmed!” Suave when he wants to be – absolutely.

“Art becomes fully present with Pamela, listens to her, looks at her and restates and accepts all her worries and insecurities and forms a bond between what she feels and what he and every Doctor feels in her position” was perfect. I admit I found this scene touching and can totally see them together, provided he grows up of course. And yes, the swelling music was indeed a sigh!

Judy, I can't wait for you to watch it. It was a wonderful scene - I admit I swooned a bit myself! :)

Susanlynn, you noted the not quite enough but at least some random acts of kindness. I think Pam is becoming my favorite. A loving daughter and devoted friend. I do hope she has the stamina to handle the devastating far from happy endings that a doctora must face.

I think Imperio is slated for 9 Eastern. As 10 is set, I would gather Medicos will either go into the 7 or 8 slot and bump one of the present offerings out or into daytime.

Lila, fantastic. Thank you!

Diana

MEDICOS

Dang, dang, dang...my unreliable DVR again decided not to record Medicos. Even though it recorded Dulce Ambicion. Just. Do. Not. Understand. It's getting very unreliable. But LILA described everything so well, I feel like I understand all I need to. AND TONIGHT I WILL WATCH LIVE.

MEDICOS 40/49

Gracias, >Lila. You are doing a great job with this.

The preemie baby's mum was threatened with possible pre-eclampsia which is rare and often fatal. I first heard of this in a 2001 telenovela when the junior hero's girlfriend died of it in an early episode. What an emergency case to start off your medical career! Tania exceeded my expectations of her.

Marco needs a good dose of whoop ass for his treatment of Diego. Those two are a great example of the saying "It's not where you come from, it's where you're going." Diego may have grown up poor but he has compassion and class in his dealings with people. His medical talent has saved him from a grand theft charge, so he needs to watch his back. The only thing Marco could do to clean up for us would be to rat out Rene. We can hope, but since Marco's own father had trouble getting him into this hospital there is a story there we need to know.

Medicos

Judyb yes, you should watch because after enduring several shows that had poor writing and made no sense, this show has good writing and storylines that make sense. Watching the villains win at every turn at the expense of the good guys is always frustrating to watch , but we have the hope that in traditional telenovela fashion, the tide will we fully turn . In real life, I am starting to give up hope.

DULCE

Steve Boudreaux, Really you think there will be blood again? I have been lulled into the mildness of the last two episodes, even the Josiane/Maria da Paz conflict doesn't seem to be that much of a big deal, regular mother/daughter, generational stuff. Josiane getting together with Régis is just going to be really sleazy. Maybe he'll take her to a "funk" dance.

The auction dinner looked so retro, although it was refreshing to see that all the generations hang out together.

Could Fabiana be the girl the chauffeur asks Beatriz (adoptive mother of Vivi Guedes) for a job?

From Bodas de Sangre/Blood Wedding at the beginning, to Mildred Pierce this episode, I have no idea what famous text the writers are going to mine next. Maybe Maria's next wardrobe change will be a clue.

MEDICOS

Finally made it back! Thank you, Susanlynn! It's a blessing to provide a bright spot!! Amen, Sister! I try to take time with any act of kindness in this show; it does genuinely feel good!

Re Imperio: Urban generally knows stuff like that! I'm making my way down comments and hope to see soon! Thanks, Susanlynn!

SpanProf! YAAAAY! Thank you, Hon! Yes, again, I had to stop and think for a bit after watching this. People get enough bad news from their screens; I don't want to add to that. Regina stood out in this episode for her bravery and assertiveness as well as her compassion towards Diego and his community. By the end of the show, she was ready for that bitter Ana! You, go, Girl!

MEDICOS

Gracias, Diana! Don't hold me to the OB/Gyn Resident thing. I thought that's what she said but I also notice that she seemed yuckified at the prospect. Maybe Anon can chime in; I'll happily stand corrected. She made herself proud, though. What seemed a slap in the face was Diego's taking off, leaving Tania alone in the ER even after she almost begged him not to. If something had gone wrong with that delivery, he'd be toast for having left! Always glad to see you on the Patio, Diana!

Dangonnit, JudyB! Consarned DVR! They poot out when you least expect it! Glad I could help!

There she is, Urbanita! Thank you! Yah, I think I remember this woman coming in earlier in the pregancy. Poor thing! She could've died! Tania did a damned good job! And yah, Marco is so in for a big fall and I can't wait! I thought Lili might be a positive influence on him but he's too full of himself. He senses what Rene is doing wrong but he continues headlong into dirty dealings. He will deserve whatever he gets! Gracias, Urban!

DULCE Thanks, Di! Jeez, I feel sorry for Maria. I really bonded to her humble beginnings and everything the family went through during the Ramirez/Matheus war. To see her now treated as a laughing stock is painful, but I guess that's what Jo experienced at her private school. And Vivi...I'm going to just try to hang around for Jo to find out this is her first cousin. And what will Regis think when he sees ruby-red Maria. The two star-crossed lovers are so close, I wonder what THEY will do when they see each other. Amadeu seems to have made a lovely life. Don't want to see that family hurt. Anywho, thanks!

Médicos

Thanks, Lila.

Cinthia’s Mother, Patricia, repeatedly calls Cinthia, who’s attempts to avoid meeting her for lunch are foiled as Patricia is camped out in the hospital cafeteria

Kudos to Patricia. She's delusional about her husband, but she does love her daughter and, boy, is she persistent.

Art becomes fully present with Pamela...

This scene was my favorite too. It made me wonder where Rodolfo Salas (Art) has been all this time. Never seen him in a TN before.

Regina basically tells her to ABCDEF-off

I love this line. Regina was on point telling off Ana, but I also enjoyed Tania quietly standing between Regina and Ana during this row.

Dulce

Thanks, Di. I'm enjoying the humor your are bringing to this TN. Glad you can keep up with who's related to who cause I lose track.

Finally older brother Radisson wearing glasses (that means he’s smart)

a long long braid that is definitely going to get stuck in some equipment

I felt so bad for Maria all gussied up in red at the gray-black high society shindig. How is it that she's been so successful in business but never learned how the stuckup party? Oh well, Maria's got her own style, no cookie-cutter she.

Medicos

"ABCDEF-off"..I have to write that one down for future use ...if only in my head !!!

MEDICOS

Thank YOU, Niecie! Patricia IS a trip, isn't she! Despite the angst, Cinthia and her Mom eventually DO get along. It's that Dad; such a bull headed character! Patricia killed me in her reaction to Rafa. Rafa is smart: he got on la suegra's good side!

Art is good with Pamela and she was doing her best not to just melt into a puddle. It was good seeing Art relaxed and he seemed to so need someone to listen to his loving counsel!

There was a lot of telling off going on in this episode, wasn't there?

Susanlynn! 😉

Medicos

Tania is indeed an OB/GYN resident.

These residents have spent the majority of their time filling out paperwork/charts. I think Tania’s shock came from not expecting to treat patients to having to assist in a labor RIGHT NOW

Rodolfo Salas had been at Telemundo up to this point. Medicos was his first telenovela at Televisa, and his first one in Mexico for that matter. Before this he was in Telemundo’s “Betty en NY”, the most recent remake of Betty La Fea.

Hey, Anon! Somehow I feel this is the same "Anon" that has commented faithfully since the start of this show. Thanks! I knew you'd have the answer about Tania! She did a good job and has come through one of many trials by fire Residents go through! Real life OJT!

And Rodolfo Salas, I did notice in the credits something like, "Introducing in Mexico" or some such! His scene with Pam gave us several moments of zen!

MEDICOS 9/9/2020

Greetings Patio. We're giving LILA a break tonight. I'll be bringing you the good news and the bad news from our beloved Instituto. And as usual, feel free to chime in, develop themes further or correct as you see fit.

We open with Ana being a nit-picking beeyotch with Regina, calling her an incompetent Emergency Room director and putting Ana's beloved David at risk. Regina's on to her, defends herself firmly, and shares an eye roll with Cinthia after Ana flounces off. But our Ana is a pitbull and keeps trying to rope in David later in the episode. Her bait? If he transfers totally over to her department, he can still do surgery. But surgery that's "planned". No emergencies when no surgical theater is available. She'll take care of him. It'll be sooo great to work together, no? Look at all these people you could help! Naturally David tells her NO. Yay Team David.

And speaking of teams, Daniel and Tania still have an after-glow over their successful preemie birth. Baby is doing fine in his little incubator; Mom as well. It's all hugs and warm eyes and good feelings. But Daniel seems to be appropriately reining in his romantic leanings for now.

But on the romance end, Luis' wife is suspicious. He gets home late, she's sitting in the dark waiting for him, and the usual Why were you gone so long? ensues. He explains the Victor surgery hassle and once his wife admits her real fears,[the affair] he promises to NEVER hurt her like that again. Generally promises are doomed to fail in these stories but we'll keep our fingers crossed.

And in the So What Could Go Wrong? Department, Tania has decided that she and Glum Pam need to hit the bars that night. Tania has happy adrenaline to work off; Pam has her disillusionment to deal with. A couple of tequila shots later, Pam is rip-roaring drunk and telling the world that Arturo is just the neatest, most gorgeous, most fabulous hombre in the world and she likes him. The bar patrons seem supremely uninterested, but Tania's eyes are lighting up like a pinball machine.

But let's get to the good part. Mauricio is doing well and wants to go home. With both Mom and Dad. And he wants things to be the way they used to be, before all this bickering and talk of divorce. About this time Pissy Victor himself rolls in and looks really happy to see how well his son is doing. Gonzalo meanwhile is fending off an oily René who's bugging him about the Diego situation and Gonzalo's handling of the Instituto in general. I'm getting a bad feeling about it all. But I'm wrong. When Luz and Gonzalo go in to talk to Victor about the lawsuit (with René lurking and smirking in the background) lo and behold! Victor is so happy to see his son well and recovered that he doesn't care at all what kind of shoddy treatment he received--They saved his son! He and Gonzalo share a moment talking about their love of offspring, while René grinds his teeth. SWEET! I could replay that scene over and over. Alas, René rebounds later when the hospital generator fails (he filched Gonzalo's request for more fuel after he left for the Congress). But for now, Ratty René is crestfallen and sour. Yay Team Gonzalo!

Team Diego is in big trouble though. He's trying to move out but he's already behind on the rent. He gives his landlady what cash he has, signs an IOU for the rest and promises he can be reached at the Instituto. Will he be sleeping in the streets? Or a hospital broom closet? Who knows? Stay tuned Patio.

DULCE RECAP Wed 9 September

It is safe to come back, everyone! No Violence, Just Mother Daughter Lover Drama and Cake!

So Mildred/Maria embarrassed daughter Veda/Jô at the black tie dinner auction in last night’s episode by wearing a bright red satin Material Girl dress and LOUDLY enunciating the for-some-reason common name she gave her daughter at birth, Josiane. The two of them definitely have different ideas of what the high life is. Jô needs the bakery’s money to pay influencer-creator Kim, whose first lesson is that common last names are OUT and Italian and English names are IN. Kim refuses to tell Jô what HER real name is, because it’s probably Ana Fulana Gomes Dital (Fulano de Tal is John Doe in Brazil).

Kim must know her stuff, however, because even though Jô dresses like she’s in Talking Heads, she attracts the attentions of Régis Mantovani (French and Italian!), whose profession seems to be lounging around in tennis whites at his rich parents’ apartment. Régis also tried to pick up Mommy Dearest twenty years ago after said family fired her for being a pregnant maid, and Maria was flattered at the time. So Mommy and Daughter do have the same taste after all, at least when it comes to men!

Ok, here goes tonight’s episode! Régis and Jô are getting it on in the parking lot while Maria gives up and hobbles off in her high heels and tight dress. Régis thinks Jô is running away from someone, but who? (Oblivious much?)

Maria goes back to the party and is making a very loud fuss while they are holding the auction. People are looking! Maria stands up at precisely the time the auctioneer is calling for a bid and she’s apparently bought something. The auction house informs her she has bought a beautiful 19th century sculpture (not impressed). Maria gives them a 50,000 check in a huff, while an attendee makes fun of her within earshot. Maria is HURT. Her assistant said she must have misheard. Ok, we’re out of here. Maria still thinks Josiane would have wanted to see how chic she is dressed, she is so tearful to leave.

Régis and Jô are fine dining and Régis orders two medium steaks. Jô wants hers rare. He is enthralled. So will I get a dessert later?

Maria is in a white satin and ostrich feather negligee. There is a big mural of her beautiful face on the wall! She says she will not sleep until Jô gets home.

In his car (not the little red one from twenty years ago but a shiny black sedan), Jô says, You’re handsome, I just want to bite you. He says, Please do! Sorry, my mommy is waiting, you have my number. See you soon. Régis says so you’re from a traditional family. (Little does he know!) She gets out and kisses him good night through the open window and he is smitten.

Jô find Maria on the chaise longue. Maria starts explainig she was at the party, but Jô says, I met a BOY. (Um, he’s older than your mom.) They fight about 50 grand for this dumb sculpture and nothing for my influencer trainer! Good night!

DULCE Recap Part II

Now who is this very attractive couple in the bedroom of a chic condo? It’s Lyris, Régis’s sister and her husband Agno. She is IN THE MOOD and he is VERY VERY TIRED. They are both undressed and getting into bed, but he wants to SLEEP.

Lyris is confiding in Régis. Maybe after so many years of marriage, he wants someone younger. She screams, I am crazy for my husband.

The husband is at a fancy office building and barges into the boss Otávio’s office while he is getting it on with his very young secretary. I’ll call you baby. What are you looking at, Agno, you’ve never had a fling? Agno says I am no saint but me and Lyris are very good, thank you.

Kim and Vivi are talking about Kim getting money from the baker, that is, Maria da Paz. Someone calls, and Kim excitedly tells Vivi, You are going to Fátima Bernades’ party!! You and two other influencers. Should I cut my hair? Vivi asks. Can’t help you now because I have to get the contract with the baker’s daughter, Kim responds.

Vivi is looking at a locket and remembers Gma Dulce giving her and her sister the same ones, as the Miley Cyrus song plays us into commercial.

Hello, Kim says in English to the pastry chef as she dips her fingers into the icing. She’s here to present her contract to Maria da Paz. Kim seems to be a pro at this, If you all want to cancel that’s ok with me. No, no, assures Maria, we want to do this influencer business thingy. Maria’s older lawyer says, Well, if you want to throw your money away. Hush, Josiane says, just sign it Mommy.
The lawyer wants to know what are all these “extras” to pay for. Kim is dropping English words, “closet” “personal stylist”. The lawyer says excuse me for insisting, but what are the extras? Mommy, you promised, this is my dream. Maria says, give me the contract. Kim says she wouldn’t normally waste her time but I like your daughter. Kim is flirting big time with the business manager.

The assistant says an old friend from the hood has shown up, Maria is so excited. She’s here to get some cake for a graduation party back home. Maria obliges. Thank you so much!

Back home, Maria’s assistant says, Come quick, something is happening in the “closet”. Kim is throwing all of Josiane’s clothes out. It’s all horrendous! I am now your personal stylist, everyone OUT and all this junk OUT, TOO.

Everyone is waiting for Rarisson to get off the bus, back from his university studies. But who is this girl? It’s me, now my name is Britny, I’m trans!!!!

Ok, Britny’s mom is very confused and upset. All the old neighbours at the party are giving their opinions about trans issues. Rarisson/Britny doesn’t care what anybody thinks. Maria da Paz says, You’re beautiful, she’s beautiful just the way she is. Her mom says I see your boobs and curves, but…did they cut it off? I am Britny, operation or no, and I am a woman. Maria da Paz says a mother’s love is forever. Dorotéia (Britny’s mom) says, You’re right, now I have a daughter. GROUP HUG!

Maria retires to the bathroom with Marlene and some pieces of cake and tells her, Everyone is together, this is how all families should be! All of a sudden, Maria remembers that it’s been 20 years since anyone has seen her nieces. I vow to find them!

DULCE Recap Part III

Nuns are crossing themselves in front of a convent. Fabiana is talking to Mother Superior. The convent is spending too much, too much on cleaning products! Mother Superior says, My dear, you have taken very good care of the books, but we need you to make a decision. You can’t stay here indefinitely without taking vows. But I vaguely remember my family, Fabiana says. I understand. But you will be very happy when you take your vows. What is stopping you?
Mother, I used to be so hopeful to see my family. The nun says, We did everything we could but nobody was looking for you. The young man who left you here never came back.Think about it. Fabiana concurs, Yes, here I have everything, including your love. She kisses Mother Superior´s ring.

Ok, see you at the meeting. Thanks, but I have to watch some television before I come to the meeting, with your permission. Bless you, my child.

Fabiana is watching a talk show and there is Vivi Guedes. Vivi is holding a microphone and going on about her family owning Vivitex Construction and they are doing a big real estate project. Fabiana thinks Vivi is just peachy!

When did you know you wanted to do fashion? the interviewer asks Vivi. I want to share, show, make everyone happy, showing people how I do my makeup, how I dress. But what is this on your wrist? I am so happy you noticed, it’s very special for me. I was adopted at five and this was given to me by my grandmother.

Fabiana is breathless and runs out of the room. She pulls out her own bracelet. It’s the same. She remembers Gma Dulce and Zenaida and the two sisters getting identical bracelets. Vivi is my sister!

MEDICOS 9/9/2020

Regina and Cinthia go in to see Sandra before she's discharged. Our gal is radiant, in spite of the facial injuries, certain that from now on with faith in God and in each other, she and Victor will work out their marriage problems and forge a happy family with their son. Sometimes it takes an accident to make you realize what's truly important in life, she adds. Amen to that.

Glitch time. Pam's hungover and late to work. Dr. Paredes is highly annoyed that she hasn't showed up on time. Parents are horrified that she has a bruise on her face from an out of control patient. Big brouhaha over their desire to protect her, get her in a more "tranquil" hospital and so on. Pam fends them off, grabs a sip of juice and a bite of bun and she's outta there. As Mom and Dad discuss it afterwards, Pops does get off a good line: "Crecer duele." Growing up can be tough. Yep. And sheltered little Pam does seem to be on her way to maturity.

Back to Team David and Team Regina. She's of the opinion that Ana is altogether too preoccupied with him and she'd like David to warn off the pitbull. Hey, it was worth it just to see David's secret smile after that line! I think he's realizing he just might. have. a. chance. with. our. Regina.

Meanwhile we get to enjoy René's temper tantrum in the office. He can't find his Squeeze Ball so he tries to work off his rage putting. It doesn't work. Sorry. Not sorry Ratsie René. Even Mireya is a bit put off.

MEDICOS 9/9/2020

Ugh. Here comes Barnacle Arturo interrupting the David/Regina chat and requesting her help in Urgencias. He actually pats David's shoulder as he whisks her away. Talk about patronizing!!!!! (Okay, I'm biased. I'm on Team David. But still.)

Anyway, turns out the patient in question clearly has appendicitis. She's worried about surgery but they assure her it's better than a rupture. There's some reassuring about the teeny scar and she'll be bikini ready in no time. So the surgical theater is booked and off they go. Only to have the lights go out. No problem. The generator will kick on in a moment. Except it doesn't. Before you know it, they're operating using huge flashlight type lamps. The surgery proceeds well, we get to see the appendix being fished out. And in the midst of all this Arturo is hitting on Regina. Seriously. He camouflages it as a Why don't we all relax and see a movie this weekend...Wanna come Rafa? Rafa's smart enough to not want to be a "mal tercio" (fig. fifth wheel)but honestly Arturo...And this is Pam's dream guy? Keep looking sister.

Tania, on the other hand, is as perky as usual, and on her way to see the wee baby she helped deliver. But the hospital is in chaos. Patients are semi-hysterical. What's happened to the lights? Luis reminds everyone that the doctors must project a calm demeanor so the patients settle down. But they don't. And the lights still don't come on. In Ana's department people who've been waiting for hours weep and wail and want Ana to do something. In her usual empathetic manner she briskly informs them she's not the Complaint Department.

Chaos continues to reign. Tania and Daniel have brought Mom in a wheelchair to see her newborn in the incubator. But without power, will the baby be too cold? Daniel has her cradle the infant on her breast to keep him warm and cozy. Elsewhere, a worker explains to Gonzalo that a transformer blew, but the generator lacks the diesel fuel it needs to operate. How can that be? He ordered it before leaving for the Congress in Acapulco!

Back in the Emergency Room Mireya is adding her toxic mix to the mess. She even suggests they don't accept any patients in Emergency till the power is restored. David crisply reminds her they're here to save lives and they can do it, with or without power. He strides off, ordering Marco to come with him.

And our last scene? René trimming his disgusting mustache (the one wife Constanza hates) and plotting with Mireya about their next move to deep-six Gonzalo. Just UGH!

"ROSA DE GUADALUPE: EL SECRETO DE ELOISA":

Judy: Did you watch this episode last night ? It was very woke & exposed lots of secrets.

At least Eloisa was reunited with her long-lost daughter.

"MEDICOS":

Something tells me Gonzalo will NOT be among the living. Just saying!

MEDICOS

Muchisimas Gracias!!! Thank you!! Obrigado!! Merci!! JudyB!! Love ya, Girl! Busy morning, back later! So much good stuff to comment on in your recap! You got a good 'un and you killed it!

"MEDICOS":

Lila: Tania continues to amaze me with being the seductive antagonistic femme fatale.

Medicos

Judyb...Thank you so much for providing us with a recap. I cannot comment right now, but I will return soon .

Gray and raining here. Hope everyone is well and safe.

DULCE

Di, thank you so much for your recaps! There are days when I get so busy that I have very little time to comment, but I do my darndest to read the recaps and comments.

(Tues) The highlight for me was Dulce's entrance at the gala/event. Though I too would have probably wanted to hide under a rock if that had been my mother, I thought that the laughter (at her) was exaggerated. I can understand the looks, but the loud laughter was over the top. Are Brazilians really that rude?

Geez, there sure were A LOT of koinkidinks in this episode as afar as how close "lost" ones are to each other.

Wed.--

So Paz has been looking for Fab and Vivi over the years and even hired detectives??? And they never checked the convents??? I can understand why they wouldn't be able to find Vivi, but surely they should have found Fabiana!

The Rarisson/Britney scene was hilarious. WHen she came off the bus, she did look trans, but later she looked quite the lady :-) I laughed when the mom said she had more boobs than she did and the grandma/aunt?? said she had more bum than she did. Oh but it's all sillycone!

MEDICOS

JudyB, you are such a DOLL..and a very generous one! Thanks for helping out Lila PLUS it's always a joy to read your recaps.

LOVED the scene where Victor informed them that he was going forth with the lawsuit. I could almost hear Rene's teeth grinding..and I too could play that scene over and over again LOL

Oh, but what a big turd Rene is. He has no conscious whatsoever. Mireya at least worries about the patients (though she does nothing about it), but his focus on making Gonzalo look bad is just despicable and mind-boggling.

MEDICOS

Good Morning Patio. LILA. Glad you could take a night and morning off and tend to all the other things that need your energy and attention. You've done such a wonderful job on this, and have spoiled us terribly with your rollicking recaps.

SUSANLYNN...Gray and rainy? Bummer. Here we've got hot, sunny and steamy. Just when we're trying to grow some new grass. Oh well. It's 2020. The Apocalypse on so many levels.

RGV CHICK...That scene with a beatific Victor serenely announcing the lawsuit was off was so delicious you could almost taste it. As well as René's bile. In fact it was a positive, carefree episode till almost the end, when the power went out. Tania and Daniel were happy, Pam was funny drunk, David firmly rebuffed every entreaty from Ana, Regina betrayed her continuing soft spot for our David (and her jealousy) and it was oh so sweet. And then the lights failed.

Oh well, even then our intrepid Emergency Room Crew carried on. But we know this particular chicken is going to come back to roost in a BIG way for Gonzalo. Poor trusting, hard-working soul that he is. Sigh.

MEDICOS

The sun is shining inside and out today Judy. As our friend Rgv Chick noted, it really is a joy to read your recaps.

"Daniel and Tania still have an after-glow over their successful preemie birth" was my favorite scene of the night. I think Daniel is still star struck but as you noted, is trying to contain his enthusiasm.

I breathed a sigh of relief when the Tania and Pamela barfly scene ended. "Tania has happy adrenaline to work off; Pam has her disillusionment to deal with" and "Tania's eyes are lighting up like a pinball machine" were perfect. Pamela was fortunate she only had the hangover to deal with. Strike one with being late though. David certainly made his point.

"Ratty René is crestfallen and sour". Loved it. You called it as you (and we) “see it” with crystal clear clarity.

"David's secret smile" was adorable as I nod from my chair at his table on the patio.

"Rafa's smart enough to not want to be a "mal tercio" (fig. fifth wheel)". Yes. Rafa wrote the manual on being a player and knows when he isn't wanted.

Ana seemed a formidable foe initially. Now, she is just generally annoying.

There may be hope for Victor yet.

I fear there is little for Luis and Susana. While she has good reason for being suspicious, does she have to be there, waiting for him, sitting in the dark, dressed to the nines? It's been said before, but my heavens, the woman needs a life. I often wonder what she has to talk about, other than their son. And her nemesis has much in common with Luis and her allure draws him in, even at a respectable distance.

Wonderful Judy. So kind of you to give our Lila a much needed break.

Thank you, thank you!

Diana

"DULCE AMBICION":

RGV Chick: Are Brazilians rude ? Sort of, it's an arrogance kind of thing I guess.

Medicos

Judyb, thank you so much. You covered everything that happened with wit and wisdom.

Poor ( literally) Diego struggling to make ends meet and keep a roof over his head. Who will take him in? Is Art back at his place ? Reg gave Art a place for awhile . Likewise , gonzalo gave Reg a place to stay for awhile. Shall we place our bets on who will offer Diego sanctuary ?

Rene is despicable . He is doing everything thing short of twirling his mustache to signal his corrupt , black heart.

MEDICOS

Thanks DIANA. I'm with you that the Luis/Susana situation is very worrying. Just when the writers decided to sort out the Victor/Sandra marriage, they're giving us strong hints that the Luis/Susana union is headed for troubled waters. And the married women in these stories are often puzzling in terms of time management. They have maids to do all the housework and cooking. Their only duties seem to concern small pets or school-age children, but only one child. No more. Not exactly an exhausting To Do List. So plenty of time to fret about who your husband is pursuing (Luis) or whether or not he's advancing in his career and making a pot of money (René)

Oh well. I admit during the toughest years of dealing with three kids, an absentee husband and an exhausting part-time job, I used to lull myself to sleep imagining that I had a full-time nanny, cook, housekeeper plus an infinite budget. Fairy tales for the tired, cranky mom.

Good question SUSANLYNN. Seems like David or Rafa could give Diego sanctuary. Even Pam, given the size of her parents' home. But also he might just try and bunk in the doctors catnap room where we see so many interesting encounters take place. There are beds and couches there. And I presume a shower or two also. We sure don't want him wandering the streets!

Medicos. Thanks so much for stepping up to the plate with that excellent recap, JudyB. I think David likes those emergency "unplanned" surgeries. They certainly get the adrenaline flowing. I still worry about Mauricio with Rene not getting the malpractice suit he wants from Victor. I vote for hospital broom closet for Diego's new digs. But I too bet that someone will discover him there and let him crash with him/her. And I must say that I didn't realize that the appendix was that small! Incredible job on the part of the surgeons in coping with the lack of electricity--but were they able to use the laparoscopy or not?

MEDICOS

Hi there SpanProf. I thought Regina said they couldn't do the laparoscopy, but had to go ahead and remove the appendix anyway. But the wound certainly looked very small.

I've been to the hospital twice with kids suspected of appendicitis. First time, yes, and our son went into surgery, even though the hospital was so crowded he was on a gurney in the hallway for quite some time. Second time my daughter and I sat around the emergency room while a series of doctors, residents and medical students interviewed and re-interviewed us. Finally got her into a room at 4 am but they ended up concluding there it was not appendicitis. Evidently it's hard to diagnose. Although my maternal grandfather died of a ruptured appendix because he refused to let the local doc operate. And I remember back in the day, if you wanted to join the Peace Corps, they insisted on taking your appendix out before you headed for the wilds. Just preventive maintenance. I've still got mine, but I've had a couple of students in their 70's who have had them removed in emergency surger. So evidently the inflammation can strike at any time.

Good grief! What was that rant about?

Anyway, I like your idea about a broom closet Diego rescue by a kind soul. We shall see. And why not Regina? She's got the couch and the room. And what fun to have another rumor of illicit romance!

Medicos. JudyB. Years ago my teen-age youngest sister had an emergency appendectomy because of severe symptoms that came on extremely quickly. Fast forward many years. I got a call from my younger daughter who was in college. She told me about identical symptoms. I told her to go to student health immediately. The student health people realized her appendix was about to burst, and sent her to the hospital right away (fortunately her college included a med school and teaching hospital). The hospital folks put her to bed and wouldn't let her move until they could contact a surgeon to come in and do the surgery on the spot. It was a success, and my husband and I were able to drive to the college and see her the next day. Catastrophe averted--and the kind of thing that could appear in a telenovela.

MEDICOS

SPANPROF...Well, thank goodness Dr. Mom was on the job is all I can say. Very lucky for your daughter.

The seeming randomness of appendicitis is what's so scary. With many diseases, we can eventually pinpoint lifestyle factors that lead to it; or environmental issues that are causing it. But with this inflammation, WTF!? Plus, what earthly purpose does the appendix serve?
Ah well, another questions to which we'll probably never know the answer.

More true life medical stories : When we were in high school, my friend had appendicitis . It didn't burst , but she developed gangrene and was in the hospital for almost a month . A few months later, I hemmoraged during a tonsillectomy . I guess we were both lucky to survive adolescence.

OT:

Susanlynn, RGV Chick, Judy, Lila, Di & everyone else: I'm assuming y'all have heard about the death of Mexican actor Xavier Ortiz from September 7th ?

He used to be on "Sentimientos Ajenos", "Camila", "Por tu Amor", "Te amare en Silencio" & countless other Telenvoleas. Ortiz was 58 years old.

MEDICOS

SUSANLYNN...Just about everyone is lucky to survive adolescence. If it's not random illnesses, it's phenomenally stupid, risk-taking decisions. I don't think any parent, after shepherding children through the teenage years, would ever dream of having any more kids.

STEVE...Not familiar with the actor Xavier Ortiz, but sounds like an early, tragic death.

JudyB! THANK YOU AGAIN! Love the recap and all the comments! Love Regina showing some jealousy and David straitening Ana out! Maybe we'll get somewhere now! Complicated day; see you all in the morning!!

Regular Brazilians aren't rude or snobby at all! But there is a very small, very white, unbelievably wealthy upper class, among the richest people in the world, who obvs live in a very exclusive club.

Maybe it's the color of Maria da Paz that is shocking to them and embarrassing to her white daughter, and the fuchsia satin dress is just symbolic.

Di, I tutored several business men and women from Brazil .

Thanks, JudyB. Super recap. You are a doll for giving Lila a break. Last night's epi was busy, busy and you gave us all the deets. I loved this:

Arturo is hitting on Regina. Seriously. He camouflages it as a Why don't we all relax and see a movie this weekend...Wanna come Rafa? Rafa's smart enough to not want to be a "mal tercio" (fig. fifth wheel) but honestly Arturo...And this is Pam's dream guy? Keep looking sister.

If Art were a dog, he'd be a terrier. Nice dogs, but so pushy.

Yep, David was cute when he saw Regina was upset with Ana over him.

Ana - just pitiful suggesting David leave the ER and work with her. I wish she could see David's got a gym buddy who spots him when he gets nowhere with Regina, so she (Ana) can move on.

MEDICOS

AWWWWWRIGHT NIECIE, we've got a real dog theme going here. Ana's a Pitbull.

Arturo is a terrier...nice but pushy.

And I'd say René with his nasty, skimpy mustache is a Bichon Frisé except that I love those dogs. And I loathe René.

Gonzalo has the dear, slurpy loyalty of a Lab. (I once knew a Lab who would pray with us anytime I visited his mistress who had leukemia. Louis would slumber peacefully as long as we just chatted. But he somehow sensed the difference when we would begin to pray together. He'd wake up, walk over, lay his paw over our clasped hands and keep it there until the prayer was finished. Extraordinary, loyal to the death dog.

And loved "David's got a gym buddy who spots him.." As SUSANLYNN would say, "Is that what the kids are calling it these days?"

MEDICOS #??

Thanks, Judy.

These last few days the scenes were not in proper order. I hope this was an accident that they're learning from. I'm not sure that this series should be airing at 8PM EST.

I have no doubt that David is an adrenaline junkie. That is what it takes to be a good ER physician/surgeon. We still know very little about his backstory.

Rene makes me lose my appetite. Constanza should ditch him.

MEDICOS

Good observation that David is an adrenaline junkie, URBAN. He does seem to thrive on crisis and the pressure of making rapid life or death decisions. But if so...if he a good candidate for a long-term relationship? Do we see a Golden Wedding Anniversary in his and Regina's future? Or just a fast and furious, passionate romance? Inquiring minds....

On Constanza, frankly she's no bargain either. Just a money grubbing shrew with no career and no domestic talent either. I'd say they're well matched as a gruesome twosome.

Medicos
Niecie.. " a gym buddy who spots him"....good one. Thanks for the giggle.

The dog theme is interesting . Art..as the expression goes Is " like a dog with a bone. " He is Always at Reg's heels begging...yip yip yip . I suppose David could be a German Shepherd , handsome and staunch
What's Ana...a bulldog ?

O/T

On the Daytime Telenovela Page, Andy Banda has left a link to Anita's obituary. It is beautifully written. Clearly her children inherited Anita's gift for graceful, heartwarming writing. It made me cry all over again. Still. Just. Cannot. Believe. It.

Médicos

I haven’t had a chance to watch the past couple of episodes, but thanks so much for the recaps Lila & Judy!!

MEDICOS

Glad you checked in, UNSOLICITED OPINIONS. After our sudden, grievous loss of Anita, we worry whenever any regular commenter drops off the map. There were a lot of happy moments in this latest episode, but unfortunately it ended on a sour note. Who needs sour notes right now?! But Hope springs eternal. Glad you're okay. Just busy.

OT

Vivi included Anita's obituary on the Tribute page...what a great loss to our world :-(
