Parte 1 de 2
Cemal is still working on befriending Candan. He brings her some coffee, saying he was getting some for himself anyway and thought of her. But he’s definitely playing close to the vest, not coming on too strong so as to scare her off. He throws the coffee he supposedly wanted into a bin and, on the stairs to his new space, he calls Arif again saying he wants to ask another favor, but in person.
Demir comes to meet someone who’s on a bench by the water. He doesn’t recognize her. She tells him that, after he dumped her, she had eight plastic surgeries, believing she was too homely for him. He tells her that was not the reason. When he finds out she was beginning these surgeries in 2010 and could not have been pregnant, he compliments her appearance and runs off.
Ugur comes to pick up Oyku at school and continues to lie to the nice woman who has come to pick up her son. He tells her he owns his own real estate business (bienes raices) and can make time to pick up Oyku. When Oyku comes out, he hugs her tight to keep her from calling him by name. Oyku figures out he’s fallen in love.
When Ugur brings her to the hostel, Oyku tells Demir Ugur is in love. When Demir’s phone rings, Oyku snatches it up and speaks to Candan, while Demir growls in the background.
The next morning Oyku and Demir argue before he takes her to school. He forbids her to call Candan.
Murat calls Candan wanting to take her to breakfast. She says she’s going to Oyku’s school so she can see that she’s OK. As she’s walking to her car from her clinic, she passes Asu on the way in!
Asu has come to see Cemal. [This woman has such wide set eyes that she looks odd to me.] She tells Cemal that he asked her something that she didn’t answer, and she’s come to tell him the answer. [Of course, this being a telenovela, the scene ends there.]
As they walk to school Oyku and Demir argue some more. He finally tells her he found her tía. Oyku looks happy and asks if she’ll come to see her. Demir said no and that he asked her why, after so many years of caring for Oyku, she left. She asked Demir if Oyku had told her why. He asks again what Oyku is hiding. She says she’ll tell him. They sit on the curb and I expect the big reveal. But she makes up a story about having played with matches after being forbidden to do so. She caught things on fire and her tía was very angry and then left her.
Asu plays with Cemal’s feelings. She mockingly says, if she told him he was the father, would they then be a happy family, would she knit him a sweater. Rather cruelly she tells him he’s not the father and she wants him to leave her alone.
Demir doesn’t believe Oyku at first, but he finally seems to accept it, calling her a child pyromaniac.
Looking very sad, Oyku walks off toward the school. And Candan comes up to Demir just then. She’s sorry she missed Oyku. Demir tells her he has something to tell her.
Oyku feels terrible about having lied to Demir. She’s pretty sad through the whole class. At one time she recites the subway stations with her eyes clothes and opens them to find Blondie mocking her.
Parte 2 de 2
The doctor we don’t like, whose name I’ve never quite gotten, is lecturing, presumably to medical students. I’ll call him Evil Doc. The subject is Niemann-Pick disease. He says there has only been one case in Turkey. However, he suspects he found another one but lost contact with the patient. He tells the class he spoke to the diácono (deacon, presumably head of the hospital or medical school) and has applied for funding to investigate the disease. [Of course he has!]
Demir takes Candan to the hostel. I’m so glad he’s being honest with her. He tells her that, when he found out that Murat bought the house, he had to leave because of the things Murat said to him. He tells her that Oyku loves her, but that he has to stand on his own two feet and care for her himself.
While they are talking Demir gets a call from Ugur, who is almost there. Whoops. Demir manages to convince him to meet him somewhere so Candan won’t see the “criminal” coming to see him. Before she leaves Candan asks Demir to bring Oyku to see her at her new clinic. Maybe she can be her assistant. Demir agrees. [But she hasn’t told him the address; probably just a telenovela oversight.]
At school, having some flashbacks. Oyku says to herself, out loud, that her father won’t abandon her.
When Oyku seeks her teacher’s advice about having lied to someone, the teacher tells her to seek out the “friend” and tell the truth.
Demir meets Ugur at an outdoor teahouse and they go over “the list”. When Ugur asks Demir what he’ll do when he finds Oyku’s mother, Demir says he’ll give Oyku to her. Ugur is dismayed.
Demir says he has to do it. Jilet will get out of jail someday and come to kill him. And Cemal is also threatening him. Ugur again brings up Asu. Demir tells him to stop mentioning her. He says that, if Asu had been pregnant, she would have told him before she left. Demir says that Ugur knows she’s in Germany. And, Demir says, she would never have left a baby with a woman like that (Zendep).
Looking drunk or high again, Asu comes home and has a memory of walking down a hall with Oyku in her arms and giving her to Zendep (with dark hair then). [This scene is odd to me. I thought Zendep said the baby was 5 weeks old when she gave her up, but this hall looks like they’re in a hospital and that Oyku was a newborn.] Oyku is wailing in her mother’s arms and still wailing in Zendep’s.
Oyku is talking with Mercan about having lied to someone. She tells him she lied because she was afraid that, if she told the truth, she’d be abandoned. But now she believes he never would do that.
A cop on a motorcycle roars up to Demir. It’s another woman on the list. We don’t really see how this scene turns out.
Some underling brings Evil Doc the results of a blood test. Reviewing them ED says it’s likely she has Niemann-Pick. He has to find her to do a biopsy. He plans to go himself to the address they have. [I believe this is Candan’s house not Zendap’s, because Candan took her to the hospital when she had a high fever.]
Candan tells Murat about the hostel and her concern for Demir and Oyku. Murat, of course, says she’s helped them enough. Just then Evil Doc comes to their table to say hello and Candan flashes back to when he treated Oyku in the hospital.
Thanks very much, novelera, for this fine recap.
I'm glad to know that you, too, find Asu rather odd-looking. Part of it is definitely her widely opened eyes, and part, I think, is her manner of walking. She seems to be almost always high or drunk or both. BTW, I think Zeynep said Asu gave her baby when she was 20 days old, but you're right, Asu does look as if she might still be in the hospital when she hands the baby over.
I enjoyed your comment about the frustrating scene where Asu comes to see Cemal: "[Of course, this being a telenovela, the scene ends there.]"
You're probably right that the address the doctor has for Oyku is Candan's. And of course now the house is owned by his buddy MuRAT. I suspect this may be how they locate Oyku, though I thing Candan will do her best to thwart the doctor's efforts. It seemed clear in tonight's episode that she didn't like the doctor when he dealt with Oyku in the hospital.
Thank you, Novelera! and a belated thank you to you, Juanita and Dondi for the previous recaps.
I don't like that the writers are making us doubt that Demir is Oyku's father. There is so much to this story that they certainly don't need this added twist.
Asu does look odd; she reminds me of Twiggy...the Turkish version :-) And she does look like she was/is a junkie. Someone commented that she might have been in the orphanage with Demir. She keeps looking at that picture of her, Demir and Cemal when they were young; maybe they 3 were brought up together???
I am probably wrong, but I don't think the address given at the hospital was Candan's. Didn't the underling say that they had already gone to that address and came up with nothing?
I'm on the fence regarding Cemal. He started out being cold-hearted and angry, but there is a softer, more vulnerable, side to him, especially when Asu is around. On the previous page, Novelera said, "As for Cemal moving into Candan's building, I suppose I thought he did so to seduce Candan and spite Demir. " Good theory! He could also be trying to find out as much as he can to steal from her. And he does look good in a suit. I took a better look at him, Juanita, and he is definitely physically attractive..but that scowl he usually wears does nothing for him!
Thanks for another fabulous recap, novelera.
I don’t like Candan giving Mu-Rat details on Demir and Oyku.
I liked the moment when Demir argued with Oyku about contacting Candan. He shouted at her “because I’m your father and you’ll do what I say!” That stopped them both dead in their tracks. Slowly but surely, he’s coming around.
How will Demir learn the truth about Oyku’s illness? From Oyku? From Candan? Or will the Dr. find him first?
dondi356
Thanks, all! What I was thinking about this morning and did not put in the recap was this. Demir had a lot of women in 2010! He's very handsome, of course. But he must have been quite the lothario to have had obviously unprotected sex with that many (or he wouldn't consider them possibilities as Oyku's mother).
The rest of you have more mixed feelings about Cemal than I do. I'm thinking back to that awful beating he gave Demir when Demir was drunk. Good idea Rgv Chick about Cemal hoping to seduce Candan for her money.
And not only does Asu seem to stare wide eyed, I meant that her eyes are set in her face so far apart that she looks astonished whether she is or not.
I'm over hating Ugur. He's a good friend to Demir, and I'm sure he'll eventually "go straight", but it will take a while.
While I'm not sure why Cemal wanted to be Oyku's father, I've been sure all along that Demir is the bio dad.
I hope they give us some Friday resolutions. Often that's when cats get let out of the bag in telenovelas. At least some of the cats, but they make sure to also give us a Friday cliffhanger.
Dondi, I'm hoping Oyku will tell her father the truth tonight. And I agree completely about Candan telling Mu-RAT anything about Demir and Oyku.
Sitting with MuRAT at the coffeeshop, Candan tells MuRAT's doctor friend that he looks familiar. (I'm not sure why she tells him this, since she remembers where she knows him from.) The doctor tells her her face looks somewhat familiar too, but he doesn't think he knows her. MuRAT invites him to join them, but he has to go join someone at another table. However, sitting at the other table, he looks back at Candan.
Cemal calls someone and tells him Ugur has said they're looking for a store to rent. I think Cemal and whoever he was talking to are planning to defraud Ugur and Demir somehow.
Demir is still talking to Tugba, a former girl friend who is now a police officer. She tells him she got married, and though she and her husband tried to have a baby, they didn't succeed. She tells Demir that her husband is the superintendent of police. She gets a call about a kidnapping, and she leaves. Demir crosses her off his list of possible mothers.
Oyku is writing a letter to Demir in her notebook. "Dear Demir, there's something I want to tell you. Please promise not to abandon me. If you can't promise this, please read no further. I'm not OK, I have an illness...."
Ugur comes to pick Oyku up from school. He again runs into the woman he met in the school yard a day or so ago. This time, she asks his name, and tells him her name is Nihal (or something like that). He goes on and on about how much he cares for his daughter, Oyku. Oyku comes to him, and after the woman has left with her child, Oyku tells Ugur, "She's not into you."
A well-dressed guy comes by Cemal's apartment and gives him something from Mr. Arif, who said he thinks it will come in handy. Apparently it's the key to a while car parked outside the building. From his apartment window, Cemal sees Candan arrive with MuRAT. She invites MuRAT to see her clinic. He does so, and tells her he thinks it's rather small. He offers to help her get something bigger, but she says he's already helped her a lot.
Ugur has brought Oyku back to Demir's room. Demir isn't there yet. Ugur is happily singing about love. Oyku asks him to be quiet, she's trying to do her homework. Demir arrives and tells Ugur that Tugba is now off the list. What list, Oyku asks. She gets no answer. Ugur leaves, saying his mother is waiting for him. Oyku assures Demir that she has finished her homework and has already eaten with Ugur. She then goes back to her notebook, reads the letter she's writing to Demir, but doesn't add anything new.
Cemal looks out his window. He sees Candan walking her dog. He goes downstairs and greets her. He also greets the dog, asks her name, makes nice, and claims he used to have a dog, but he lost her last year. They say good night to each other. Candan puts the dog in her car and drives off. Cemal follows in the white car that Arif apparently gave or lent him. [At what point does this become stalking?]
Asu comes to the club and asks another woman for money. The woman says she doesn't have any. Asu then asks about someone else and is told he'll be there later.
Demir hangs up Oyku's clothes. Amazingly, he's upset that she leaves things lying around. As he's picking up clothes, her notebook drops on the floor, open conveniently to what looks like the page on which Oyku has been writing her letter to Demir. But, to my surprise, he doesn't pay any attention to what's in the notebook. Oyku comes out of the bathroom after taking a shower. She seems to be chilled. Demir puts a blanket on her. She tells him her hair is wet and she could catch a cold. She wishes they had a hair dryer. He leaves and returns quickly with a hair dryer borrowed from the person in charge of the inn.
Demir tries to dry Oyku's hair with the hairdryer but keeps almost burning her. Finally she takes the hairdryer and dries her own hair. Demir asks why she didn't tell him that she knew how to use it. You didn't ask, she replies.
Demir tells Oyku that Candan was there earlier today. He says he told her the truth. He didn't want to keep lying. "You told me you didn't want me to tell any more lies," he tells Oyku. Oyku looks rather uncomfortable as he's saying this, since she's the one who hasn't been telling the truth.
Asu returns to the club. She finds Erdinc, the guy she was looking for earlier. She tells him she wants to sing. He reminds her that he had put her on the list earlier, but she didn't show up, and he couldn't find a replacement. However, it seems he'll give her another chance.
Oyku complains that the bed is uncomfortable. Then she asks Demir to read to her. He refuses. She keeps asking. He says the story doesn't make any sense. She tells him he's intelligent but he doesn't pay attention when he doesn't like something. She asks him again to read. He does so, and before long she falls asleep.
We see Asu singing. But mixed in with her singing is a scene from her childhood, when she's being introduced to a number of other children, perhaps at a school, or perhaps at an orphanage. So for a while I wasn't sure she was actually singing in the present. But she was. She has a pretty good voice, and when she stops, there's applause. She then goes to see Erdinc, who tells her she was good, people liked her, and he gives her money. He asks whether she'll be back the next day. "We'll see," she tells him. He then asks whether she'd like a stable job. Her response: "I'll think about it after I drink all this money."
The next morning, Oyku has been in the bathroom for a long time. Demir needs to use the bathroom and asks her to hurry. She's brushing her teeth, but suddenly she drops the toothbrush. She stares at her hand and tells herself to calm down, calm down, it will pass. Demir is desperate to get to the bathroom. He counts to three and then opens the door. Oyku looks upset, but she leaves the bathroom. She starts reciting the names of the train stations.
MuRAT's doctor friend, whose name is something like Hisan, goes looking for Oyku at her aunt's old address. No one knows anything about someone named Oyku, but one of the men tells him that yes, someone named Demir used to live there, but he didn't have any children and he doesn't live there now.
Cemal the Stalker sees Candan arrive at the clinic. He goes downstairs and offers a casual "good morning." He then tells her he's going for some coffee. Would she like some? She decides to accompany him, so she'll know where the coffee shop is.
Demir takes Oyku to school. She asks him for money. He pulls out the two bills he has in his wallet. She takes one. He cautions her to watch herself with Mercan! She heads off, but he calls her back, holding the backpack she almost forgot.
When Candan and Cemal are leaving the coffee shop, she asks hhim what he does for a living. He tells her he's an investment advisor. He pulls out a card, hands it to her, and tells her that if she needs help, she should give him a call.
Demir meets up with Ugur. Ugur is concerned about their future. Apparently his relationship with the woman in the schoolyard is prompting this concern. He tells Demir that he's heard that there's a store available [I bet it's the one Cemal is planning to use to cause them grief.] Demir thinks this is crazy, how will we affford it, how will we decorate it? Ugur suggests that perhaps his mother can help...again.
Demir and Ugur go to visit Ugur's mother. They claim that their business is doing well, they're expanding, and they need money to invest. Ugur's mother first suggests what's left of her pension. They turn that down. Ugur then asks about the land someone wanted to buy from her but she refused. "Absolutely not!" she exclaims. "That land is not for sale!" They then say that if they don't have the money, they may have to declare bankruptcy, which would delight their competitors, who are just waiting for them to fail. Needless to say, Ugur's mother gives in. She'll sell the land, but they'll have to pay her back. She needs the money for her tomb.
The scene shifts to Oyku's class at school. The teacher isn't in the classroom yet. Oyku has her notebook open and is adding to her letter to Demir. "I am sick. That's why my aunt abandoned me." Suddenly Blondie appears and grabs the notebook. Oyku tries to get it back from her. Blondie starts reading aloud, "Dear Demir...." She then comments on Oyku's calling her father Demir. "That's rude," Blondie declares. Oyku starts fighting with her to try to get the notebook back. The teacher comes into the room, and sees the two girls fighting. She takes the notebook and orders them to go back to their seats.
Candan calls Demir. She'd like to meet him after school, so she can come see Oyku. She misses her.
Demir tells Ugur about Candan's request. He's upset because they'll probably go somewhere for food, and he doesn't have any money. Nor does Ugur. They ask his mother, who reaches into her bra to find some.
When school is over and the other students have left the classroom, the teacher asks Oyku (but not Blondie?) why she was fighting again. Is this notebook worth it? Oyku tells her it's not important. "What's in it?" the teacher asks as she opens the notebook and the episode ends.
Thanks, Juanita, for the great recap! Certainly not a short one.
Maybe Candan wasn’t 100% sure about Dr. Hisan? I wonder how long it will take him to place her.
Tugba became a police officer to catch Demir? So far, these women have changed their lives right after being dumped by Demir.
Oh no, is Ugur is going to lose his mother’s burial money?! I feel so bad about this. I can hardly watch those scenes with his mom. Demir looks so guilty. Why does he go along with it?
Candan is making it too easy for stalker Cemal. How awful, lying about his late dog to score points. BTW, Gece (Candan’s dog) means night.
I think Cemal was looking at a pic of himself with Asu and Demir from the orphanage and I believe he flashed back to the first time he saw Asu. Looks like an instant attraction. He’s not over her.
Asu was singing about herself. The song is Küçüğüm. I wish they put the translation in the captions. This is the best translation I found:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHxLoV7sfKY
Dr. Hisan went to Demir’s old apartment. In the English captions, the man said Demir was useless.
I’m so angry at the teacher. Ilayda gets off scot free? It should have been obvious that Blondie was the instigator!
dondi356
MANY thanks, dondi356, for your wonderful comments. It's terrific that you know so much about Turkish and Turkish novelas.
I was under the impression that Candan remembered the doctor clearly from when Oyku was in the hospital, but perhaps there's still some doubt in her mind. I fear it won't be long before the doctor remembers Candan.
I often regret that I write recaps pretty late at night, when my mind is already half asleep. You're quite right--I wrote that the doctor went to where the aunt used to live, whereas clearly he went to Demir's old address.
Thanks very much for the link to the YouTube video of the song Asu sang. At first, I kept trying to get captions and was surprised there weren't any. Then, almost by accident, I found that the lyrics in English were on the website below the screen where the video was shown. And I can see why you wish they had used captions in the novela--the lyrics almost seem written for Asu.
As I hope is apparent, I too was angry that the teacher singled out Oyku for criticism and ignored Blondie. I look at this in two opposing ways. One is that the teacher really cares for Oyku and wants to help her, and she doesn't really care about Blondie. The other view is that Blondie comes from a wealthy family with a harpy for a mother, and the teacher doesn't want to deal with the mother and perhaps incur her wrath. Perhaps both of these are true.
Dondi, you are right. That was NOT a short recap, rather a very complete and well written one.
We're on the same wavelength in being disgusted at Blondie picking on Oyku all the time and getting away with it.
So I guess it wasn't that generous of Arif to give Cemal a car. When his character was introduced, he appeared to own a car dealership. I was confused about the black object the messenger gave him until I saw him beep the car with the key.
Wow, Juanita, it never occurred to me that the store Ugur has his eye on could be a way for Cemal to avenge himself.
I also cannot bear to see Ugur's mother lose so much money. Demir's face was a page in the dictionary right over the word "shame".
I'm getting impatient with the "someone almost reads Oyku's words" plot.
I was relieved that Hisan (thanks for the name Juanita, but he's still Evil Doc to me) went to Demir's old apartment.
Why was Cemal following Candan? He knows where she lives because he popped up there at least once, pressuring Demir to get the money he wants from Candan.
I am having a hard time remembering the names of the minor characters. Turkish names are so different from any I've heard. I have an easier time with Arabic names, and, of course, all romance languages have similar names, mostly derived from Latin.
Asu is apparently an alcoholic. Some how she manages to afford a fairly decent apartment.
One thing the club owner said to Asu was that he wanted her to sing cheerful songs. Apparently she's known for singing the Turkish version of "the blues".
Thanks very much, novelera, for your insightful comments. You and dondi356 are right, this was not what I'd call a "short" recap. I keep trying to make one, but I've rarely succeeded. The problem is that, ironically, it takes me longer to write a short one, and so most of the time I wind up writing a longer one, since it requires me to think less.
I too find the Turkish names more difficult to remember, undoubtedly because they're mostly unfamiliar to me. At times I think the people doing the Spanish captions have difficulty with the names as well. For example, I think the doctor's name has been written more than one way.
Thanks for pointing out what the club owner said to Asu about wanting cheerful songs. I completely missed that. And I too wonder how Asu manages to pay the rent on her apartment.
Juanita, I love your "short" recaps! They retell the events precisely, but completely..and you even add conversations! Thank you!
I think we all are upset with that teacher. Maybe she only "picked on" Oyku because Oyku has more of a history of getting into trouble. But I do agree that she really should have done something about evil Blondie since she instigated the whole thing.
And yes, we are all also worried about Ugur losing his mother's money. Once Cemal finds out that they have money, he is sure to get it somehow. I just don't see how Ugur and Demir will get ahead with so few skills and so many enemies on their backs. And Dondi, "Demir's face was a page in the dictionary right over the word "shame". Yes,it was! And then he had the gall to ask her for her cash! The man is changing, but too slowly!
Novelera, you were right on target about Cemal going after Candan just to spite Demir. Candan is being too trusting. First she allows Demir and Oyku to live with her without knowing anything about Demir; and now she is hanging out with Cemal and believing every word he says. Can she really be that naive?
Dondi, thanks for the youtube link. I was wondering what Asu was singing about, and you're right! She's definitely singing about herself.
Many thanks, Rgv Chick, for your perceptive comments. I think we're all in agreement that the teacher should have accused Blondie as well as Oyku of fighting. The only question is why she only picked on Oyku. Perhaps, as you say, it's because Oyku has been in trouble more often than Blondie. Other possibilities: a) she really wants to help Oyku and find out what's bothering her, or b) she doesn't want to have to incur the wrath of Blondie's aggressive and wealthy mother. I honestly don't know which of these three explanations I believe most.
I think Cemal has been planning to defraud Demir and Ugur even before they got Ugur's mother to sell the land and, um, lend them the money. I remember a scene where Cemal talks with someone about a store for rent. I can't find the passage in the recaps, but my impression at the time was that Cemal wanted to use the store in a scheme to get back at Demir and Ugur.
And I agree that Candan is much too trusting for her own good. With Demir, with MuRAT, and with Cemal.
