Imperio de Mentiras: 9/22/20 - The Clock Is Ticking Or Betrayed By The Family Frenemy

·         Tall, dark, and halfway-handsome Leonardo is definitely overwhelmed by the steamy liplock Elisa has just laid on him. (But then again, could be he's just relieved he didn't eat the onion and garlic bagels during his coffee break this morning.)  We gotta figure that Leo seems to be bright enough a copper (pun totally unintended) to note the worried look on this blond bombshell's face, not to mention, the telephone conversation he must have overheard.  "--Is somebody watching us? Does this have to do with your father's death? Look, I only want to help you." She answers that he has helped enough; please don't ask her anything more, and then fakes a lover's good-bye blow kiss.  He remains there, staring after her (either getting more in touch with himself or perhaps just drawn by something more than simply altruistic motives (Julia who??).

·        Elisa is on a mission and the clock is tick-tick-ticking.  She races to get to her dearly departed daddy's offices and requests Fernanda, Augusto's administrative sexratary, to bring her all the files from recent clients and any recent questionable business transactions.  She has a flashback to the kidnapping and threats Dario, the head thug, made earlier: "--You have 24 hrs. to give me back what your father stole from us. Otherwise, kid sister, Majo, gets offed."

·         Leo, still outside in front of police central, eventually snaps out of his trance and calls his female colleague: "--That woman is hiding something; I was just with her."  Lady Cop chastizes him for sticking his nose in again; he was told to keep out of the investigation, as he's obviously emotionally too close to the situation.  He's been warned by the higher-ups that if he interferes at this point he will be charged with obstruction.  It won't be just him that gets burned, either.  He and his two partners will also get in trouble.  Leo says there's no reason his older brother, Jose Luis, should find out.  So, get him anything she can dig up on Elisa Cantu.  He needs to learn what it is she's hiding.

·         At Empresa Cantu, aka Grupo Cantu, Elisa explains to Fernanda that she's looking for any illegal transaction that Daddy may have had.  After all,  Fern was his administrative assistant and had the best knowledge of his comings and goings. Fern insists her father was totally above-board! He would be incapable of anything so scurrilous as a scandalous transaction!  (Maybe, maybe not!)

·         Fern gets a bit scared about all of this and wants an explanation.  Elisa mumbles about the murder, the woman her papi was found with, the business's financials. Just too much to deal with!  She learns from Fern then that a man stopped by but didn't leave his name.  She thought he was there about the shipment still at the warehouse that Augusto left pending when he was killed.  It was from a couple of weeks ago.  Fern hands Elisa some misplaced paperwork she found in a drawer, I believe.  Elisa looks over the papers and races off, instructing Fern not to say a word to anybody.  "--not that man or anybody else!"

·         Back at the kidnappers' lair, the usual fear fest takes place.  One of the baddies threatens and tries raping Majo.  The other, smarter baddy, prevents him much to Viewerville's relief. FF >>FF>>

·         At the same time, Leo returns to the crime scene and notes some dragging tracks moving away from where the car was.  He takes pictures. He then finds a loose earring--one of Julia's--lying in the grass.  He assumes then she wasn't in the car at the time but was put inside it afterward.  Some of the other cops are watching over the site and see Leo. They report back to El Commandante.

·         At Julia's house, Kid Sister informs Mama that Leo was asking questions at the funeral.  Of course, she told him she knew nothing.  Mama tells her to keep it that way.  Neither of them knows a thing, y punto.

·         Back at the police station, Jose Luis asks Lady Cop and Guy Cop if they found out anything about any pre-existing relationship between Papi Cantu and Julia. Nope.  Nada. Zilch. Zero.   "--But they had to have met each other at some point," JL insists.  He adds he knows it's rough for everybody involved but they've simply got to treat the case as if it were any other.  Otherwise, they'll never get through it.  The others agree.  Just then El Commandante walks in and interrupts to complain to JL that his brother was just seen back at the crime scene, and he'd better get Leo the heck off the case or he'll be charged with obstruction.

·         Leo's mama arrives home and complains to JL's wife about not going to Julia's wake.  JL's wife gossips about Julia's having an affair and all the while pulling the wool over Leo, the stupid fool's, eyes.  So, why go show respect for such a slut?  La Suegra Velasco tells her to shut it and storms out of the dining room in disgust.

·         Elisa makes it to the warehouse and asks the manager where the shipment could have gone and why it's nowhere to be found. "--If the shipment wasn't signed off for and released, then the crates all still must be there. But also, who could have ordered the shipment released without a formal signature?" "--Could only be Sr. Augusto," says the manager.  "It was that same night....It was so odd, too, him coming so late at night."  Elisa thinks this through.  "--Anyway, he couldn't have carried off those crates by himself."  "--No.  He came to review what was going to the new gallery."  "--Oh!  Of course, that!"

·         At the same time, across town, Renata is speaking with her doctor about her treatment.  She asks if at any time once the treatment ends could she try for children.  No, replies the doctor.  She's a psychiatric patient and the type of illness she's dealing with is life-long and she cannot ever have children.  He hands her some meds and birth control pills before leaving to handle some slight emergency which takes him out of the office.  This is long enough for Ren to ditch the pills inside the sample boxes into the nearby wastebasket and return the empties to her purse as if nothing had happened.  (Psycho pregnancy alert!!)

·         Victoria calls harried Elisa saying she's worried about Majo and has second thoughts about agreeing to send her out of the country.  Elisa lies that Majo made it to N.Y. and is just fine.

·         Speaking of upset, Leo returns home and begins thinking about Julia.  Mama V. joins him and tells him he cannot let himself be taken over by terrible thoughts, even though he is in terrible pain.  He's got to remain strong and get through it.  Yes, says a tearful Leo.  He reveals to Mama the engagement and the news of the baby Julia gave him that very same night.  Now it's all gone.  She's gone. They're both gone. He just doesn't understand at all.

·         As Vicki packs away Auggie's clothes, she wonders back to that evening and where her husband really had gone.  Who was that woman in the car with him?  Was she really his lover?

·         Elisa arrives and then fibs to Vicki that Majo simply lost her phone and then emailed Elisa telling her about it.  Nothing major.  Vicki has asked Elisa to stay for a bit and chat.  She's too upset about Majo and the whole sad situation in general.

·         At Grupo Cantu, now, Ren's hubby is working: watching a porn flick on his office computer when Fern walks in on him.  She tells him to just keep doing whatever "work" he was busy with, then recommends he look for another job since Grupo Cantu is financially finished.  What idiocy is she talking about, he sneers.  Fern tells him she's got his number:  "--you thought just by marrying Renata that you'd get your mitts on Augusto Cantu's millions but all you'll be getting now is his millions in debts. Tsk, tsk, tiger."  She throws down the financial file and walks back out.  (Wow! Viewerville adds another kindred spirit to cheer on.)

·         At Leo's again, Jose Luis scolds him about his going back to the crime scene when he was warned off.  He tells him that the commandante will be accusing not just him but all of them with obstruction if he doesn't put the brakes on his obsession and let the others handle it by the book. Leo shows JL the pictures he took and the earring he found a few yards from the car.  "--It means that Julia wasn't killed in the car.  Her body was planted inside and the whole scene is a setup!  It was staged!"  It means they know that Cantu was the object of this crime and they have to find out what role Julia played in all of this, he concludes. "--Who put her into the car and why?"  JL agrees but then he warns Leo again that he's got to stay out of this investigation or otherwise both of them will be kicked off the force.  Leo may not care, but JL still has a family to support.  Leave it be and let him do his job.  Leo, sighs. (Dunno.  He doesn't look very convinced to me.)

·         Back at the manse, Elisa asks Vicki if her daddy had enemies that would have wanted to kill him.  Vicki states there were plenty of competitors in his way, but to kill him?  Not that she would know of.  Elisa next asks if he had a lover.  Before Vicki can fully reply, Renata rushes into the kitchen.  We get a great view of the Cantus' dysfunctional family dynamic.  (Damn, if they don't play their roles to perfection in this scene!  Anybody who's lived through it knows it immediately.  What a cringe-fest!)  Mama gripes against Ren drinking caffeine and asks where she was this morning.  Ren says sarcastically that she was at the doctor's getting more drugs all because she's a worthless crazy woman.  "--So just go back to whatever it was you were talking about and ignore me like usual."  Vicki makes the mistake of doing just that and telling Elisa she is the one who'll take over the family business. Ruh-Rohhhh!

·         Ren raises holy Hell at that careless remark.  She's not just incensed, but now rages that she, being the eldest, is the one to take over the family business.  "--But your father decided!" "--Dad's dead!" (That was blunt enough!) Elisa says by way of compromise that she can go with her to the office tomorrow and... (yeah, then what?)  Ren is further agitated. Elisa's voice and mannerisms get on her last of numerous frazzled nerves; that same fake happy look and tone of voice is like chalk on the proverbial blackboard because that's why Daddy always gave Elisa everything and totally ignored wretched Renata. Elisa should take care of the new gallery in N.Y. and leave her to run the gallery in Mexico!! Simple as that! Tantan!  Renata now goes ably back to her rant with Mama, rudely poking a finger into Victoria's forehead.  "--I'll prove to you I am capable!"  Eventually, to everyone's relief (Viewerville's included), Ren rushes out of the room, taking her major, older-sister snit with her.  Relieved that she's gone, Elisa asks why Mama had to be so careless about bringing her new position up the way she did.  Vicki's response is that no way was she going to leave the family business in the hands of Renata's freeloading, opportunistic, parasite of a husband!!  (Works for me!)

·         Outside the manse, Leo is questioning the housekeeper when Elisa exits the gate and runs into them.  "--What gives you the right to interrogate my employees?"  Her rainbow-colored ransom phone suddenly begins ringing.  Nervously Elisa warns Leo to get going or she'll call his boss and lodge a complaint about harassment. He gets into his car but watches her carefully before driving off.  He notes she's looking around for something or someone; and she seems pretty worried or frightened.  She answers her phone.  Dario notes on the phone that she's been fighting with her boyfriend.  Tsk. Tsk.  He taunts her and then reminds her time is running out.  She wants proof of life by speaking to her sis.  Dario (the sociopathic dick) clicks off.

·         A bit later Leo discusses the prints of his pictures with his two partners and relates his new findings.  They argue over the fact that maybe, as bad as it hurts to consider it, just maybe Julia really was involved with the old man.

·         Meanwhile, El Commandante pays Vicki a visit and says he's just doing his due diligence.  She tells him next time he's inclined to do his due diligence to speak to her lawyer. She tells him to get out of her house.

·         JL has a fight with his less-than affectionate wife.  No sex. Not now and might as well be not ever.  JL is disgusted and leaves.

·         Rape-hungry Kidnapper tells  Dario that the victim needs a spanking to knock her down a peg or two.  Dario warns Would Be Molester that if he puts a hand on her he will kill him.  (Nope, don't let the good looks fool ya cuz just as easily he turns from Mr. Nice Guy into El Demente. (You don't say no to Dariohhh!  Just like [y]ou don't tug on superman's cape; you don't spit into the wind; you don't pull the mask off the old lone ranger and you don't mess around with [h]im! (My apologies to Jim Croce, q.e.p.d. but it just was one of those earworm things).  When Majo refuses to make a video to send to her sister he suddenly grabs and chokes her. Press about an inch either way and she dies.  So do what he says or she's dead sister walking.  Message received, loud and clear.

·         Vicki has later called Eugenio over to complain about El Commandante's visit.  She feels so alone now.  No way she is alone, says Eugene.  "You've got me looking after you and the family."  Vicki admits to him that she thinks Elisa is hiding something from them all.  She's been acting so strangely.  "--Really?  Like what?"

·         Leo's partners show him the news articles they've found.  Elisa Cantu is having an exposition of prehispanic relics.  "--Okay.... yeah, but then there's an article about recently stolen relics as well," continues Lady Cop.  This suggests art trafficking and that Elisa is possibly involved in it. "This could be the motive for the murders," says Leo.  And, there is to be an opening of a new art museum by EC soon in Mexico City.

·         Tio Eugenio calls Elisa to discuss how worried Victoria is.  She tells him the whopper of white lies regarding Maria Jose.  He cannot believe, he says, that her mother would swallow such a line of puke as that.  Well, says Elisa, it was the right thing to do."  "--Ok. give my best to your sister next time you speak to her."  Click.  Afterward, dear Tio Geño stands by Augusto's grave. "--At what point did I lose you, brother?"  Up walks Dario.  (Dun-dun-dunnnnn!!!!!)

·         Eugenio and Dario we note... are working together!! Yup and the first thing he asks is how 'the girl', aka Majo, is. (Viewerville takes a moment to pause and pick its collective jaw from off the floor.)  "--Insufferable!"  "--Well she better be alright or you will pay for it!"  Dario relates that they've got her at the safe house.  He's been following Elisa everywhere and it's obvious she has no idea where the art pieces are. Dario says he doesn't quite see Miss Respectable turning into an art thief.  Geño insists they need a substitute for Augusto now and remarks that she never said a word about her sister when he pressed her just a bit ago.  No, he thinks they've got a winner with Elisa.

·         Elisa, meanwhile, is back at her father's offices looking through things when long 'n lanky Leo shows up unexpectedly. He surprises her with a suspicious "--What are you looking for?"  She wants to know what he doing there?  "--Are you following me?"  Well, hey, he's just a policeman doing his job, he answers.  "--It is such an abuse of authority! Do it somewhere else!  This is private property!"  As such he has no right to be there.  Leo (acting halfway in a trance again --I thought that was the beginning scene of this capitulo!) asks her instead why at the police station and every time he's with her she acts like someone or something is watching or following her.  She again tells him to leave.  There's no reason for him to be there.  Instead, El Colombo de Leo irritatingly picks up a page of what she was just looking through and asks if it has to do with the theft of those prehispanic relics.  She stops in her tracks and nearly breaks into tears when he insists again that he's not there to hurt her, that he's trying to help and is on her side. Her happy and in control facade crumbles--or is it an act to secure sympathy? Leo asks what's the matter and that's when she finally loses it.  She walks over to him, lays her head on his shoulders, and sobs.  (Well, I suppose if you needed a pair of shoulders to sob on, his do very nicely....)  Yup, she moves straight into his arms and begs for his help.  What's a tall, dark, and halfway handsome fellow to do?

Thanks, Jardinera for your fabulous recap! I watched bits in this capitulo and relied on you for the rest of the details. I'm want to keep up on the plot without having to watch every minute...I guess.

I'm with you on this galan being part way handsome! LOL.

I had a bad feeling about the uncle—he's in on it! Wow! And the somewhat hot kidnapper is bad but not quite what we were led to think.

Thanks so much again, Jardinera!

-Elvira

Jardinera, thank you for the very entertaining recap.

Big surprise that Eugenio is working with Dario. How will they try to recruit Elisa if they are looking for a long term player? Coercion can only go so far unless Elisa turns out to be expendable herself further down the line.

They have done a great job in making sure that Angelique Boyer and Susana González look worn out and pretty normal for the situations they are in.

As for Andrés Palacios, I have always been a fan. Sometimes a “half-way handsome” interesting looking galán is exactly what is needed. ; )

This might be more interesting than expected.

Jarifa and Two Cats: Thanks! Glad you made it back to The Patio. I apologize for such a long recap. I didn't realize it until it published. I will try to condense from here on. Yeah, I sort of wondered how Eugenio was going to be shown as a traitor. Right from the start, he's up to his neck. I question who controls him. I do love the way both he and Dario can go from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde in an instant. Both actors have surpassed my expectations in highlighting that trait.

As for Leo's looks and the on-screen magic, I must agree with Susanlynn. The galan just doesn't quite hit all the bells for me this time around. But, different strokes for different folks! ;?))

Jardinera...ha...Iread that first line of the recap and remembered why I always loved your recaps. Yes, this actor is just not my idea of a galan. Maybe It is his sleepy look, like he's not quite awake and alert and grasping the situation around him . Okay , back to the rest of the recap.

P.s. Thanks for the respite from real life that your recaps provide. I am grateful , amiga. When I see your name, many fun conversations from the past pop into my mind...pushing out negative thoughts . I am grateful.

I think that the actress playing Elise's bff was in Papa a Toda Madre. She looks like the actress who played the young woman married to the older guy.

Jardinera, you just showed me up. I stupidly thought this was too fast-paced for noir but I see now it's not. I will endeavor to follow in that path.

Great description of Leonardo; he definitely straddles the line, especially when he's angry. He's also an ugly crier.

I am not surprised about Eugenio; we knew from the character description he was going to be bad news. However, I suspect that he and Dario will turn on each other at some point. It's not too surprising that he turned out to be the mastermind if one considers the usual length of GG's productions. This story will be too short to have two or three sets of actual criminals.

Almost didn't recognize Patricia Reyes Spindola; this is the first time I've seen her with a full head of grey hair... and cut short at that. Always liked her.

Julia having cheated on Leo... she certainly put on a good front. We saw her family's home; they are only upper working class and she was looking for more. Leo might make a decent salary as a plainclothes detective, but not what Julia was looking for.

Renata... she is probably the worst of the lot because she's both crazy and hateful. Also a loose cannon. There is no doubt in my mind that she will get pregnant and there will be major issues with that. The doctor warned her that the psych meds (as well as the booze she shouldn't be drinking) could mess with the baby's development. Renata would be a disaster as a mother. I can't even figure out her motive for wanting to get pregnant in the first place; this isn't Cuna de Lobos where the first grandchild determines who inherits. But she might think it.

Also, this isn't 18th century Russia where a crown goes to the firstborn regardless of health or mental state. She should watch The Godfather but probably wouldn't realize that Vito would never have appointed Santino as his successor.

I guess -- because her family calls her that -- I will have to refer to Ma. Jose as Majo. I personally hate nicknames and although I hate my name I'm glad it doesn't have one.

One more thing, Jardinera, don't worry about this being long. Early episodes -- especially o this kind of story -- really need it because any little detail can become important later on.

Susanlynn, you are right about the bff. She is Michelle González who was also in “La candidata”.

Thank you Jardinera, Yikes! Complicated. I missed some things which you caught.
Dammit I hate it in these TNs when the bad guys keep coming out of the woodwork. Teo Eugenio reminds me of that guy on Vecinos who always looks like he is wearing a brown hairpiece over his grey hair. So I had been calling him Uncle Rug.

Then there is Julia's Mom and Lil Sis vowing to stay STFU.

And Jose Luis, so what is not romantic about Mi Gordita? Remember Mrs. Velasco, the only one you can for sure cut off is yourself. You are in a Spanish TN Hon.

Jarifa, yes yes, they have AB and SG looking pretty ragged by design. I didn't realize until today that Mop Head (Marcelo) was actually married to Loopy Bangs (Renata).

So these Nimrods think they can bring Elisa into the organization? Good luck with that. She has been New Yorkized by now fellas.

Urban, do we know that Julia was unfaithful? Is that what her Mom and Lil Sis were alluding to?

Kirby, I think it's possible. Based on this episode her family seems to think so. We should be learning more about this soon.

She didn't look smart enough to be able to juggle a dirty old man, criminal activity, and being married to a cop for the purpose of keeping criminals informed. However, that means nothing. Since this series has flashbacks we may see more of her personality in somebody's memory.

Urban: "ugly crier" --oh yeah! Also a goofy smiler I think his wide-eyed who-me? expressions are such that he doesn't show enough subtlety of feeling to the camera like Yanez or Rulli have done. Course, it took Colunga a few tn's under his belt to master that ability as I remember.

Patti Spindola Reyes shocked me when she'd lost all her original weight from over the years. She's always been a terrific actress and has had some great character roles. She may be underused in this tn.

Susanlynn - All these commas are for you, amiga! Je-je! I am thrilled about my grammar app that seems to be compatible with the new Caray platform.

Kirby: "when the bad guys keep coming out of the woodwork" Always a struggle to keep the baddies straight initially. Part of a tn's charm I guess.

Jarifa ITA with you and Kirby about AB and SG looking and acting their roles to perfection.

You girls can say what you want about Andres' looks. I am glad I am not having to wade through swoons over the walking tattoo billboard Jose Ron again.

I think Andres (Leo) is doing a pretty good job, but he does need to go to cry school. We will see what he is made of when the inevitable REAL undercover work with Elisa begins. Well, actually, previews looked like they were on top of the bedcovers.

Jardinera, thanks for the excellent, comprehensive recap. I agree with Urban, the first few episodes are critical and a small detail could be quite important later.

I don't think Julia was unfaithful. The mother and sis know something, but I think it's something else. Since the father is ill and needs a lot of treatment and meds, Julia may have been doing some type of side business that could be considered shady...just my guess.

Andres Palacios looks good in the "poster shot," but his lips are too full. However, his eyes prevent him looking truly indecisive.

Leading men need to look decisive.

Never saw him on the sheets before; that's another area of judgement of galans.

Wonderful Jardinera, just wonderful.

“Leo seems to be bright enough a copper” was a gem 😊 as was "He remains there, staring after her (either getting more in touch with himself or perhaps just drawn by something more than simply altruistic motives (Julia who??)".

So many excellent lines including "rainbow-colored ransom phone".

"Renata's freeloading, opportunistic, parasite of a husband!" Love how Fern handled him – my new hero. And throwing away the BC pills?

Your "Ren is further agitated. Elisa's voice and mannerisms get on her last of numerous frazzled nerves; that same fake happy look and tone of voice is like chalk on the proverbial blackboard because that's why Daddy always gave Elisa everything and totally ignored wretched Renata" was perfect and set the stage for another agonizing, exasperating story line.

Dario is frightening for all of the reasons you listed.

"long 'n lanky Leo" and "(Well, I suppose if you needed a pair of shoulders to sob on, his do very nicely....)" - totally agree. Looks like I have a rather clean sight line to this hunk (mi amiga Jarifa aside). I think he's dreamy (I utter sophomorically) :)

I didn't think Alejandro Camacho was simply there to provide eye candy. Cold hearted and cold blooded, he is a formidable villain.

This is very promising and the first few recaps, stellar.

Thank you Jardinera!

Diana

Since we currently have only three recappers I will take Thursday this week. Here's hoping we can soon get two more for the team.

Urban, IIRC, Adriana Noel has volunteered to do Thursday in addition to Wednesday.

OK I think I think too much. We see that Elisa was Daddy's 'favorite. Looking at her and Loopy Bangs, it really does not need further thought. But lil' sis Majo and the credits makes me wonder, is she a step sister to the older two? I am not sure how this works in Spanish naming.

The IMDB lists Momma Victoria Cantu as Victoria Robles de Cantú, along with Renata Cantu as well as Elisa Canto.

BUT Majo is listed as Majo Cantu Robles. So were Renata and Elisa Augusto's children from a first marriage and Majo a product of his new union with Victoria? Would that work?

Jardinera654, this was a funny good
Recap. Quick question tho, why do U
Keep saying"halfway handsome"? This
Man is so cute. Im lovin those deep
Demples. And those gorgeous eyes. He handsome girl:-). But everybody is different. Ok back on track.

What a dysfunctional family we have
Here. The oldest daughter havin a
Breakdown in the shower,& is fully
Clothed. And shes married to that guy with the eterno bad hair day. I
Remember him from another tn that I
Dont remember the name of at the moment but he was a doctor. And he got the girl in the end. Love story
s dont always end the way you want them too.
Ok on back on track. It seems that
Papa gave the attention to the one
In the middle, and the older sister
Has a jealous streak going on, and
Momma has some issues too.
Now is uncle genio Vicky's brother?
And speaking of tio...he a crook.
And why yall pickin your jaws up off the floor? I knew something was up about him when he offered to buy the business. That was way way too accommodating.
I got so much more I want to say
About this interesting group of strange ensemble, but I gotta get back to the office.

Jardinera654 this is real good.
Later. Thank you J654.

Kirby, I think that Spanish naming customs put the mother's maiden name after the father's for unmarried people. They drop it when they marry.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Urban Thanks, Oh, so it doesn't mean anything. But why did Elisa and Renata not get the bonus round names too? I'm just suspicious of these TN people, there is always an unforseen ?Huh...What? lurking around.

Nina, I think Teo Turd is probably dead Daddy's brother. His affection for Victory Lap did not appear altogether brotherly. Then again with this bunch......................

Thanks for the recap, Jardinera!

I had a feeling about Tío E but he might not be the only player in this game. I still have my suspicions about Victoria and what she knew or at least suspected. Julia wasn’t killed inside the car but was Augusto? Was it murder suicide or double murder? So many questions lol

I’d have to concur about “halfway handsome” Leo/Andres Palacios. I know he’s done more than one telenovela but I’d probably still take who I refer to as “one hit wonder” Cristian de la Fuente over Andres P lol (the one hit being “Amor Bravio”).

Renata should definitely not being having kids. Without meds who knows what she’s capable of. Marcelo better not fall for anything. But maybe he doesn’t care. Who knows....

I might be over analyzing but I feel like there’s more to Fernanda than meets the eye.

Sheezo Tio, can't even blame it on Autocorrupt either. (Teo Turd Eugenio)

Is Leo’s theory that Julia was placed in the car the only viable one? She could have been killed outside the car, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t in it prior to getting killed. She could have been waiting in the middle of nowhere for Mr. Cantu to arrive too. Leo’s theory shows his desperate wishful thinking.

Will the officers ask for an autopsy and determine the DNA of the fetus? But even then, the DNA carrying Leo’s DNA wouldn’t be enough to prove Julia didn’t cheat. The doubt will always linger.

Julia’s mother and sister know more than they want to tell. If Julia was in shady business, they might have been accomplices, to some extent.

TF I agree about Mom Victoria. She has some time unaccounted for the night of the murder also among other suspicious activity. She was leaving and told Elisa and Majo not to be too late.

Then:

The girls arrive home and the housekeeper Marcite tells them they are the first ones home, with Mom Vic arriving later sans chofer. "Elisa tried calling her, but got her voice mail." And she intercepted that message on Augusto's phone about a video conference with some investors at that hour of the night. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

This is gonna be one of those where the only one not up to their eyeballs in it is the family dog.

I'm so happy to see a traditional telenovela again (even though I forgot to watch last night)! No drug dealer protagonists and the bad guys get what's coming to them in the end!

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the art- maybe some more montages like in the first capitulo. Julia didn't seem like the affair-having type in the two seconds we knew here, but that would explain why they killed off a fetus. If it wasn't Leo's, then it's ok (by telenovela rules). I'm just hoping that they leave Majo alone. The traditional rape scene will make me VERY UPSET. I'll still watch, of course, but will have to yell at the tv.

Wow,so many comments, so folks are assembling on the patio. I remember the days on caray where comments would go 100 for one episode. I think somewhere also recall that.

Jardinera, thanks corvette commas . You know that I have taught grammar for so long that I love it. Poor Carlos got tired of my lie, lay annual lecture. We did have such fun , didn't we? Julie had to explain what a troll was when Cindy suddenly showed up to scold us all.

Attraction is hard to explain. As the saying goes, "_Beauty is in the eye of The beholder." I guess for me this galan does not communicate emotion with his face. Some actors have a face that shows many shades of feelings , and they make me feel that they are truly the character that they are portraying . I always "see" this guy acting.

Nina, you are going to make this a fun ride. Please sit next to me. We can pass notes .

KIrby, I am going out to stock on Doritas because quarantine has not dulled your vibe. "Uncle Rug" gave me a giggle , and I need all the giggles that I can beg , borrow , or steal right now.

I do think that these sisters may be step sisters . They certainly don't look alike, but , of course, that doesn't mean anything .

The card from the gallery that Julia had in her journal ...hmmm.

Secrets, antiquities, family drama .....I'm in .

Jardinera, your style cracks me up every time. I agree with everyone else who said that halfway handsome describes Leo very well for now. I've seen him in his Azteca days and in earlier Televisa work and he was never drop-dead gorgeous, but he's not that bad either. And AB does have good chemistry with her galans, maybe this will help.

URBAN, let me know if you want to do this Thursday, I can take next Thursday if nobody else offers before.

FYI - TWO MORE RECAPPERS NEEDED, PATIO PEEPS!

So far we know Eugenio and Dario are the BAD GUYS. Victoria can't be too innocent, either...
Julia was good (too good), Renata will probably turn dark when Marcelo, who is definitely not good pushes her enough...
I don't really like Fernanda, either, hooking up with a married man who is your bestie's dad, is too yucky for my taste.
Julia's family is all kinds of shady, too.
Elise and Leo seem to be good, but I'm guessing they're about to start doing some questionable things.
That only leaves poor Majo, who might end up more crazy than Renata when all is said and done.

"Tall, dark, and halfway-handsome Leonardo is definitely overwhelmed by the steamy liplock Elisa has just laid on him. (But then again, could be he's just relieved he didn't eat the onion and garlic bagels during his coffee break this morning.)"

Hah! Our Jardinera is back. Have missed your irreverent sense of humor lady. Not going to be commenting much, as I realize I've seen part of this already (the Turkish version that played on Netflix), plus local grandson no. 2 is about to arrive and my computer time will be nil. But great to see you back and this is definitely an all-star cast, both for the telenovela and the recapping team.

Nice to see the Patio is filling up already and the discussion is lively. All good.

But just in passing...those sleepy eyes y'all are complaining about, used to be called "bedroom eyes". And like my friend Diana, I find our lad quite handsome. But Alborada is playing again on Unimás so I'll be getting my sweet dreams there I imagine.

Thanks Jardinera. Wonderful to have you with us again.

Was Fern hooking up with Angosto? I missed that?

Victoria certainly looks guilty , so she probably isnt.

If Julia wasn't the sweet flower she appeared to be, she fooled me..but that isn't hard to do.

Susana can really chew up the scenery playing bad . Yikes . Makes me cringe because I love her so much when she is the good leading lady like she Was in Pasion and other shows. I Like good people on screen and off. Don't judge me.

I do appreciate Leo's shoulders . I have always been a big fan of broad shoulders .

JudyB, “bedroom eyes” yes!!!

SusanLynn...me too. First I've heard of Fernanda and Daddy Augusto. Though that's usually the case. I have to go back and research that.

Yes Suzana and I reaffirmed our Telenovela vows when she was Colunga's mistreated beautiful wife in Pasion and Power.

Oh boy, JudyB and Jarifa! "Bedroom eyes?" To me it's more like Jerry Colonna eyes. @@
And congrats on nieto 2 local!

Kelly, yeah, I have been hankering for a double dose of antigua telenovela myself!

Adriana Noel/Susanlynn/TF: I expect pure chaos from Renata. It will be front row seating only for me! Popcorn anybody? The character grates on my nerves every scene she's in.

RGV: thanks for the chin-upper on this first week or two. I need toothpicks for my lids there's so much to get in.

Thanks a bunch, Jardinera.

Leticia Calderon is too young to play Suzanna Gonzalez's mom, but I guess I'll get over it.

I'll take this Friday, then. I can work that out. This novela needs the daily treatment.

Lol O kirby, thats a good one.
Uncle Rug, so funny. Im glad U

Bedroom eyes, I haven't heard that in decades. Yep thats what hes got.

Much sussyQ, save me a seat girl.

Leticia Calderon is only 6 years older than Susana Gonzalez, but there are other examples of this.
