MARIANA #67/68

Thursday

Oh, no! A cliffhanger! Will Mariana escape and where will she go???? It has to be better than where she has been.

The engineer thought he could escape some justice from the torch carrying townsfolk but he couldn’t. Ha!

Okay, Camilo bought a house and he actually thought Chachi would be happy to allow Mariana to stay. DUH!

Chachi is just plain annoying. Send her to the jungle with her mother.

Lucrecia seems to be concerned about what Chachi knows. Why would anyone care since Chachi can’t recognize reality anyway?

Biggest DUH! goes to Iggy who just can’t seem to escape being manipulated by Marcia. She got him drunk and got him to have sex with her. He asks her why she always keeps on insisting on what she wants. Could it be because she always gets what she wants???? How stupid can he get?

I can’t wait until Iván pulls the plug on Atilio. That seems to be quite a set up.

FIN

MARIANA

Thanks for the running commentary, Jarifa!

Looking forward to seeing the townspeople go after the engineer...hope he got scorched...sloooowly!

"MARIANA":

RGV Chick: I'm assuming Marcia & Iggy made out in the river ?

CITA

doris, sometimes it is just better to concentrate on main plot lines in these Novelas. Many times the subplots are insufferable. Glad to hear that Peacock is working out for you.

MARIANA

Andy, if we all had an Oropo in our lives to remove our defects with a magical potion!

RgvChick, I so agree about the rape and the attempted rapes in this one. They are just disgusting and gratuitous.

I am liking Yadira just as much as you two. She has to end up with Camilo of he can ever dump Chachi. Now that Mariana is free I hope we start to learn more about her as a person since she can talk and isn’t mooning over Iggy anymore. It is time for her to toughen up.

MARIANA

I have to admit that my take on Ignacio and Marcia is that Iggy should just go for it, and try to grow a brain while he's at it.
This is the 21st century, he can support his son while not living with Marcia. But if he's going to live with her, and sleep with her in the same bed, then recognize that he's a young, healthy guy, and a widower(he thinks); she's a young, healthy, sexy woman; and that things will happen. So get on with it, or move out or get the divorce or whatever. He shouldn't need booze to be an excuse.

And stop acting so surly.

Camilo should stop being so honest with poor Chachi. Enough of this "Yeah, I felt like I had to marry you although I don't much care for you" stuff. Lie just a little, as in "I'm beginning to love you." Because "...tenerte cariño" just doesn't cut it.
Or go back in time and never marry the girl in the first place.
Oops! That's kinda hard to do, isn't it?

Folks, if you're ever in Costa Esmeralda or nearby parts of Mexico, definitely do not drink the water! Something down there is turning everybody really, really, really stupid.

Hey, how about a telenovela within a telenovela for at least a few episodes? don Ignacio y sus dos mujeres, maybe?

Happy to see Carol again, though she's overdressed.

More later.

Andrés

MARIANA

I should have said "More much later."   :-)

I enjoy this TN, as I've said several times, because it makes me laugh. I laugh at the telenovela and I laugh at myself for watching this nonsense. But there are just things in it... like the window in Camilo and Chachi's place, same clouds every day, much like the ever-present full moon in the magical glade.
Now are these things for fun or is Mejía just too cheap to set up something better?   :-)

Poor, poor Chachi. She's really flipping out and something's probably going to happen to her eventually to clear a path for Camilo and Yadira. Hopefully she'll just meet somebody nice in the loony bin and forget all about Camilo.

I'm tired of Halcón/Ignacio, he's a real bore. And his great love Mariana is soporific.

For me the side stories are better, especially Yadira. She was both gorgeous and funny in her musical number. That dress (a 'mermaid' dress, I think it's called) was over the top and I was afraid she was going to fall on the stairs. Fortunately, she didn't, and she was a great success. I was not shocked.

Will the surly and boring Iggy find the soporific Mariana? We can only hope not, but most likely they will get together again. But who knows when? If we're just past the half-way point it could take a while, and Atilio and Cumache are still on the loose. We'll see.

Andy

MARIANA

I thoroughly enjoyed the torch carrying townspeople kicking the living daylights out of the engineer; I hope he is forever “disabled.” But I’m puzzled about the Mexican judicial system. He goes to prison for raping Yadira and attempting to rape Miguelina based solely on Miguelina’s word??? Ah yes, TN law :-)

Have to agree that Iggy being manipulated by Marcia is a big DUH! Idiot!

Andy, love to word “soporific” for Mariana. Will Mr. Big DUH come to the rescue? Or will Cumache coincidentally be in the area??? It is the slums, ya know ;-)

"MARIANA":

Andy: Iggy is addicted to Marcia. He cannot help himself!

MARIANA

Andy, I am voting for them being just too cheap to spend what they should have. Guess they were counting on the story carrying them through . . . ha, ha.

RgvChick, “telenovela justice” says it all. It looks like they didn’t want to waste time on a courtroom scene. The mob really did a job on him.

Friday 69/70

I like Ruth.

Best scenes: An amazed? disgusted? El Cumache watching the shaman do his thing with the chicken and spitting the liquor as he transferred Atilio’s pain to Isidro. Hey, there was even a “voodoo” doll!!! Thank goodness for Lola who knew that that black crow in Isidro’s house was the source of the curse that was causing him such pain. Lola’s impression of the black crow was the best part of the whole episode.

Second best scene: The new and improved Mariana standing up to Marcia at the beauty shop. As she harped on and on, Marcia sure sounded like she was trying to convince herself that Iggy would be staying if he knew Mariana were alive.

Most pathetic scene: Iggy’s sick baby and Isidro having to play doctor. Isidro was right that the poor little thing needed some attention like from his parents, DUH!

At least Carol has her head on straight knowing that Iggy is stuck on Mariana so why bother pursuing him. I like Carol. She knows exactly where she stands even with Iván and has chosen how she wants to deal with it.

Poor Lucrecia having to think about Atilio still being alive.

Atilio’s wheel chair has nothing on Rogelio’s red number in LQNPA.

Uh oh, Iván is not a happy camper learning that the miners, now in a cooperative, are making money off of the Lugo Navarro mine.

So who is Ricardo Bernal exactly? Guess we will have to wait and see.

Iván got a BIG surprise with Mariana appearing with Ruth in his office as the new beauty shop staff.

I am SO HAPPY we are off of the hacienda.

MARIANA

Just have to say I'm enjoy the Patio of Mariana greatly. You all are funny, and the more annoyed you get, the funnier you are. Thanks for making this such an enjoyable experience for me, without my having to suffer through it myself.

CITAS

DORIS, I feel your pain. I remember having to suffer through those afternoon telenovelas, praying nightly that they would end soon and I could throw my notes away. The only one I enjoyed was Sin Tu Mirada. I fear that the afternoon slots go to the telenovelas that are the weakest of the bunch, never a good bet for quality watching. In the meantime, I'm still getting my fantasy needs met with Alborada--where the hero really is a hero, the heroine feisty and optimistic, and the baddies evil in a truly frightening, malevolent way. Best yet, a happy ending guaranteed.

MARIANA

JudyB, it is always great seeing you on the patio . Please feel free to comment anytime you want. MARIANA DE LA NOCHE is so . . . . . . .
unique in being one of the most cliché ridden things I have ever seen.

MARIANA

Jarifa, I have to agree with your best scenes. I had to laugh when I saw the new shaman doing his ritual; and thanks for clearing up that it was a chicken that he had. For a minute I thought it was another monkey gone wild. The voodoo doll was the cherry topping the dessert. Too stupid it's funny LOL

Oh, my! Isidro invited Maria Lola to live with him! When he told her he had to warn her of something, I thought he was going to tell her she had to bathe and comb her hair! LOL But nah, he just warned her that he read his little bones every morning. What I want to know is why those little bones didn't tell him that Cumache and Atilio are alive before now.

I am still amazed at the change in Yadira; it's not only her looks but her attitude and gestures. When she walked over to open the door to a visiting Camilo, she "swayed" and her hand was graciously up in the air OO-LA-LA!! Duh moment: Camilo tells Yadira that she won't give into her love for him because she now has admirers that can offer her more than he can...uhmmm, I think that ring on his finger has something to do with it...idiot!

MARIANA

Yadira! I'm always happy to see Yadira, but I don't expect to be laughing when I see her.

She was so very pretty and composed today. OO-LA-LA!! indeed! Swaying and prancing. Gorgeous and feminine in the red dress and then the blue robe. She really got Iván's attention when she was in his office, and she was just as happy with herself alone later in her hotel room, looking into the mirror.

Since she's a singer I half expected her to break out into song:

I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.

Or maybe:

I enjoy being a girl...

She's in the business, she should know some show tunes.

The rest of the show was OK. Some nice people, Ruth, Isidro and María Lola, even Carol. Nice to see María Lola move in with Isidro.
Rgv Chickie, if Isidro can get her "to bathe and comb her hair", maybe she will start singing, "I feel pretty; Oh, so pretty..."

:-)

Andy

Andy, very clever “show tune” theme I can picture BOTH Yadira and Lola waltzing around and singing that song. Very funny.

RgvChick, whether in Mexico with curanderos or in Miami with santeros it is always a chicken. ; )

My smiley got split! ; )

MARIANA

Good Morning, Petite Patio Peeps :-) Have a nice, restful day!

I was just thinking yesterday. There are so many gestures and facial expressions that are exaggerated; this would make a great old-fashioned black & white silent movie. I can just imagine Cumache with his bulging eyes starring at the curandero LOL

MARIANA

I hadn’t thought about that but you are right, RgvChick. El Cumache’s expression was over the top and it went on so long. One would have thought there would have been just one “shocked” shot but there were several like he had never seen anything like that in his life. So many humorous opportunities.
