Imperio De Mentiras #21, 10/20/20 Perfect Patsy, Perfect Punishment
Marcelo is being shoved into the back of a police car having been caught red-handed trying to sell one of the stolen pre-hispanic art pieces supposedly robbed by Augusto Cantu prior to his murder. Of course Elisa is as surprised as anybody that it's Marc. What happens next with Marc? Leo says he's going to be held at the police station as Suspect Numero Uno. Elisa is dumb blond dumbfounded--more tragedy and heartbreak--and more migraine material. Poor big sister! How to deal with it all? Elisa simply cannot go on. She asks Leonardo how she can possibly inform the family that Marcelo is involved with stolen art and the death of his father-in-law? Especially Renata? Leo says hang on a Mexicano minute. He's going to be held for theft and trafficking of stolen art pieces but NOT for murder. (Small comfort, babe.) Elisa tells him that Marc is totally incapable of that--that what? (What, Elisa? Theft, trafficking, or murder?) Whatever, the news needs to come from Elisa, advises Leo. Worse days are ahead.
Back at Marc's filthy lucre wannabe love nest, Sonia has been found by Eugenio and his goons-in-suits. He is like a cat playing with it's doomed prey. He has a great time strangling her, threatening her, and then asking her how many times Sonia did the bedroom bop with the younger bad hair boy here. Stupid Sonia breaks down and with her misplaced and careless loyalties (I mean there is much to be said for self-preservation, Sonia) says she'll never betray Marcelo....(Sorry, but some people are just too stupid to be allowed to waste good oxygen. Viewerville, along with EwwwGeñio, agrees that she is one of them.)
Elisa is now on the way home and must have made a call to Fabricio about this arrest. She's got to figure a way for the family to let Renata know without her having another crisis, Majo's got to learn Marc was probaby involved with her kidnapping and Victoria gets to surmise along with Elisa that he was probably responsible for Augusto's murder. Lovely. He'll take charge of hiring a lawyer for Marc and keeping the family out of the news, as it's in their best financial interest.
Fab informs Fernanda then and she races off to her office to call Geñio about Marcelo's capture; mostly it is to share blame by stating that their --no, corrects Ewwy, her--plot has backfired. Yup, says he, quite a setback there. Fern's worried she's going to eventually be implicated once Marc and Sonia start yapping. Not a problem, reasons Ewwy. Marc's a thief so his word is worthless, and as far as Sonia...well, no matter. She's going to be dealt with. Click.
Back in the Cantu neighborhood, Majo and Clara have been hiking in high-heels (rough stuff). Majo needs fresh air and to clear her mind of her emotionally scarring experience; she feels it's she alone who must heal herself of this. Nobody else can help her out of this jam. Clara tries reasoning with her. After all, Majo leads a fairytale life. This depression is a waste. Well, so she had a fight with her boyfriend? Majo replies she hasn't got a boyfriend as such: she fell in love with a guy who she thought was in love with her, but truly isn't. These two march off for another high-speed high-heeled hike. (Ouchhhh! They ever heard of espadrilles, class?)
Back inside the manse, Elisa and Victoria are arguing about how to tell Ren-sure-to-go-nutty big sis the bad news about filthy lucre-loving letch hubby's righteous run-in and takedown by the long arm of the law. Per Elisa they cannot risk upsetting her again. (True dat! Watching one of those episodes even makes me want to run in circles and shout and scream and join the nearest Berserkers R Us support group.) Majo walks in with Clara in tow. No, she hasn't seen Ren since this morning she tells the others. El tries calling Ren's cell again. Finally, Ren answers and tells Elisa about the romantic dinner she's preparing for her (now formerly hanky-pankying) hubby tonight. Elisa hasn't the nerve to tell Ren what's happened. (Tell us how that eventually works out, will ya?) Vicki, meanwhile, informs Majo about the major Marcelo manacle-fest and the probability that Marc was part of Daddy's murder and her kidnapping. Clara, having been exiled to the kitchen, texts Dario? that Majo and she cannot make it outside the grounds today due to a serious family event.
Back at the police station, El Comandante wants Jose Luis's badge and gun pronto for having gone behind his back and avoided all known proper police protocols. Excuuuuuse me, says JL. "-- We were simply alerted to an illegal art trafficking situation by a dealer of art antiquities and caught these guys red-handed. We handed them over. It went all by the book. Suspend me, fire me, if you want. We'll see which one of us the higher-ups pay attention to." El Comandante backs down and walks out of JL's office. (Short dudes talking to Jose Luis, Viewerville notes, should be wearing elevator shoes. That guy's Tall with a capital T.) JL goes out to explain to Leo and his team, but Leo's not satisfied they've caught the actual murderers. JL loses it and claims they've risked all their careers just for Leo's stupid obsession.
Scario de Dario who has apparently reverted to his Dr. Demento alter ego calls Elisa and gives her undeserved grief for Marc's supposed part in her and her daddy's theft of the art pieces that were taken from him; he wants them back. His logic: her BIL was arrested with one of them and that means that he has the rest of them and she knew this, so anti up or else. She insists she has no idea where he got the piece or where the others are. Dario gets annoyed. "--Pipe down and nix the attitude! I won't tell you again." He's got another little job for her. He's suddenly come into a number of paintings and he's sending them to her office to be authenticated. The authentications will have her signature on them, no if's, and's, or but's! Click. More secret illegal fan fodder she's got to hide from everyone....
Fab comes in and tries to console lovely bewildered Elisa. He tries to convince her that Leo isn't really on her side, either. He's a cop doing his job, after all. And, remember, he approached her family because it was his fiancee found with her daddy. She insists Leo's been on her side from the beginning trying to help her get to the bottom of this all. Fab reminds her that since the beginning the entire investigation has revolved around her family alone and certainly not Julia's. (Good point, dude.)
Back at Seduction Central de Sonia and Marc, Ewwwy tells Sonia that it's his turn. They shoot her with a knock-out agent. The next she knows she's being handcuffed by him in a small room on (as we eventually realize) a boat in the middle of the ocean somewhere. He locks her in and then abandons it. Nice... on a vengeance scale of 1-10 this definitely ranks an 11+.
El Comandante is now questioning Marc's connection buddy who claims the only role he played in all of this was to make introductions. The inspector sends him off to make his statement.
Meanwhile, Leo, JL and team watch behind the two-way mirror as Marc does nothing but stonewall asking for his phone call and his attorney. Eventually, the comandante complies. At no time does he admit to anything.
Renata keeps leaving messages on Marc's cell reminding him not to be late for the dinner surprise tonight.
Clara takes a picture on Majo's phone of Majo sleeping (yawn>>) and texts it to Dario. Vicki tells Majo when she wakes up from her nap that due to the business with Marc, Majo's not allowed off the mansion's property. Period. Majo's pissed.
Afterward, Vicki speaks with Ewwy by phone. He acts shocked, shocked! to learn about Marc's arrest for art trafficking. She's certain Marcelo's also responsible for the murders and Majo's kidnapping, and why not? He's nothing but a low-life sponging, opportunistic playboy whom they never should have allowed to marry their daughter.
Across town, El Comandante reports back to Eugenio. Ewwy instructs him to put the guy in prison and throw away the key.
Leslie comes back from her new? school. She tells her abue all about it. (FF>>FF>>)
Theresa gets a text from her old boyfriend, Reynoldo, asking to meet up with her again.
JL informs Leo that Marc's confessed to the murders and the kidnapping as well. So, he's being transferred to federal prison. However, Leo reminds his big brother that nothing was signed and the guy didn't say a word. His only crime was trying to make some easy money. JL again tries shutting him up calling him an obsessed ex-boyfriend and warns him to leave the defunct Julia to pushing up all those grateful Mexican daisies. The higher-ups are putting a stone wall around him and wanting him to hurry up and close the case. JL explains for the umpteen time he just wants to save his job so he got to comply. Leo says it's more important to get at the truth. He's angry and frustrated with JL. "--Just when did you stop being a policeman, Bro?" He walks out of his brother's office and slams the door.
Fern (the she-weasel) tries covering her tracks. She visits Fab and suggests Marc doesn't need any lawyer. If he's been caught then there's a reason. It may sound cold, but look at what hell he's caused. She moves in trying to seduce Fab to make him agree with her. This time he seems a bit reluctant to fall for Fern's feminine wiles. He tells her to remember that he's got to protect their plans. She doesn't believe him. You're starting to believe you really are her knight in shining armor, aren't you?" "--You're jealous, huh?" She tries for a seduction save. "--No, babe. I just want to remind you that Elisa can never, ever, ever, ever, give you what I can."
Elisa, meantime, has gone to Ren's apartment right before Marc would normally arrive home for dinner. She tries to bring up the issue but can't. Ren just shoos her out of the place.
Leo meets up with El who tells him the bad news. He tells her that Marcelo's admitted to the kidnapping and murders. JL just told him. She asks Leo to do the impossible and get him out of there. Her ill sister will never survive having her husband locked away in prison. She then hugs him and tells him she's so glad he's there for her. Julia learns from Nieves that now they must take Justino to the hospital for his treatments. And, since Julia's bank account is frozen they need to ask for an advance from Dario/Victoria? of $100,000 dollars cash. (I think.)
Ren makes a frantic call to Fern telling her to send her husband home to her. She knows that Fern's always been jealous of her, her wealth, and her position. However, she's only a simple employee and Ren is an owner of the business. So send him home now! Fern answers that she cannot reply in the way Ren deserves out of respect for the family. but if she's waiting for Marc's return, she shouldn't hold her breath. [esperar sentado] Click.
Leo advises Elisa not to allow the family to keep Ren out of the know. She has a right to be told about her husband's situation. Just then Fab shows up and asks Leo to please see that the police handle their end of things discreetly. Leo says he's got to expect something will probably leak. Fab insists it must be totally discreet, no leaks, because of their iffy financial situation at the company. But, ask Leo, "--are you suggesting that I shouldn't deal with these murders?" Fab says that it's "my" job to protect the family, Elisa, and the company. Leo corrects him immediately. "--I protect Elisa." "--Uh, but then, who protects her from you?" Budda-boom.

Sonia being left chained and adrift on the yacht was quite creative, as a matter of fact, much more creative than I ever expected from this novela. “. . . this definitely ranks an 11+”. Yes!
Why would Sara trust ( a stranger) Darío and blab her family business? She is just as clueless as her granddaughter.
Fabricio must have had some interesting times with Fernanda.
Clara is between a rock and a hard place with her mother pressuring her.
I wish Renata could get herself together and deal with everyone especially Fernanda. Here is hoping!
When Eww GoonSuit stuck Sonia in the neck with that needle. I thought he was going to hit his other hand on the other side of her neck! Who uses a 4 inch veterinary needle on a little chick's 3 inch neck? Whatever...
So she is handcuffed on the yacht out in the Gulf. Um....writers...how did Eww and GoonSuits get back? Call AquaUber? Swim? Yeah...Whatever.....Sonia is reaping the rewards of many brainless things. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. If Sonia were any dumber, you would need to water her once a week.
Rant 3...So ReNutty sees Mop's phone with the texts from Sonia etc....and she sets up a nice romantic meal? What, she was going to poison him? Or selective amnesia?
FerNasty trying to sex-out The Poodle shows she thinks 'Easy' means 'Sexy', it does not.
Yes Jardinera, the girls hiking in heels was a hoot. Cute little pleather skirt though, but not much for running. BTW, does anyone else think MaJo looks about ten years older than Clara? Clara looks like a little college girl, Majo looks more like one of the professors. Maybe a dumb one, but...............
If Mop is in any way implicated in this whole mess with Auggy and Julia, does he really think El, Vic, etc. might get him a lawyer? Maybe a flying pig !
Did Mop actually confess, or did El Dirty Commandante Gilly just say he did at Ewwww's orders? I missed something I suspect.
And before I forget....at the end, when the Poodle asked Leo who would protect Elisa from him, he should have punched him right in his muzzle to answer THAT question. Come on Leo, pretend if you have to, that there is a molecule of testosterone in there somewhere.
So OK, FerNasty's plan kinda backfired, is there any repercussions from her 6 million dollar mistake? Do the authorities wonder where and how Mop got the 6 million dollar thing? Does Ewwww want 6 million dollars worth of her ass now? could take a while Ewwww.
I think this was the best episode so far and you relayed every event perfectly and added a liberal and greatly needed dose of your trademark wry humor.
Full of precious metals including "dumb blond dumbfounded" and "Berserkers R Us" among many others.
Such an inhuman fate to leave Sonia to. But bonus points for the chilling and excruciating punishment, unfathomable in its cruelty.
Marc is a dead man. Or a man who will wish he is dead.
So, unless we are seeing things through a mangled mirror, Elisa does not seem as though she is going to be able to extricate herself from Dario's hold. She has resources but she refuses to tell Leo the truth. Is she hiding something or does she think she can cry and mewl her way through this? Fabricio who already seems to be intoxicated by Elisa's perfume, does not seem to be an answer.
Jarifa, I also could not believe Sara's loose lips!! Seems very uncharacteristic. And "Dr. Demento", despite his best efforts, doesn't come off as endearing or engaging.
Poor Renata.
Majo is regretting her dalliance with Dario. But can she be saved?
So many questions to which I have no answers.
Jardinera, this was great. Thank you!
Diana
Does TioRug akways wear a suit and tie on his yachts? I would have enjoyed seeing him in Bermuda shorts...maybe a captain's hat.
Speaking of wardrobe, were those leather culottes that Fern was wearing as she was smarming around the Poodle ( who always looks kind of sleepy and out of it).
I wish Sara wasnt so trusting. She blurted out a lot of information about the family. Now what is Dario going to do with sll that info.
Majo has lost her mojo and is having second, third, and fourth thoughts about Dario. Is she pregnsnt ? So its nkt a story of Besuty and tbe Beast ...no starcrossed lovers.
Kirby, i agree that Clara looks much younger than mojo.
Maybe tonights events are going to put Renata on the warpath.
That said, doe HE not smell a rat when all their detective work seems to hit the Gilberto roadblock? Further, if they made up the story that Marcelo confessed to the murders and kidnappings etc., that lie should come out the first time Mop has a visitor. For sure as soon as he talks to an attorney.
If Leo is this blinded by his something for Elisa now, as soon as they start sleeping together he will not have enough sense to breathe on his own.
If Sonia were any dumber, you would need to water her once a week. This is sidebar-worthy. Thanks, Kirby.
Sonia is no loss to anyone. She married Eugenio for his money and is now paying the consequences of her stupidity. She's a nasty little snob who was not to the manor born; that's the worst kind. As to the manner of Eugenio disposing of her I wonder whether this was in the original or whether the idea came from when the producer worked on Cuna de Lobos. Definitely gets an 11 out of 10 for creativity.
Victoria's reaction to Marcelo's arrest is interesting. However, she can't dispose of him without raising eyebrows once it becomes known that she isn't supporting him against the accusations. This will become known to the press eventually and will probably cause a lot of trash talk. There is also the issue of the effect this will have on Renata. She is having a setback. She was completely losing it when she shoved Elisa out of her apartment. She will be worse than she was in the early episodes. This will create a very different problem for Victoria and she might not be able to handle it.
Sara's disclosure to Dario -- a complete stranger -- is totally unrealistic for a woman from a clan of police.
Majo is supposed to be 24 years old, but her escalating mental health issues will age her.
Finally, since Fernanda can so easily lead Fabricio around by his gonads I don't think he's got much going on upstairs.
I have a different take on Sonia. Sure, she's a golddigger, and she definitely deserves some kind of punishmenet but being tortured by the likes of Eww (or any other man for that matter) is not it. Leave her penniless, throw her in jail for the artifact deal, but don't beat her senseless or worse. I had to revert my eyes at some of the scenes between them, Alejandro Camacho is such a chilling villan!
I do hope against hope that she's not dead, she's the only person who has somethong on Fernasty right now.
That being said, what if Eww made a mistake leaving her alive? She's in the middle of the sea, but someone will notice that boat sooner or later, right? The coast guard, tourists, I don't know...
Leo is turning into your run of the mill confused galan; an excellent cop who can't figure out Fab and Eww? What is his purpose, except romancing Elisa and calling Adriana to give her more work to do (which she does, btw)?
WILL SOMEONE TELL RENATA THE TRUTH ALREADY???
If she manages to somehow get loose, I wonder if she could figure out how to start and drive the boat. If she can spot land, it is about like just driving a car. If not, she is still toast.
Also, Marc did not confess. That was Leo's concern. This all came out of nowhere. NObody saw it. And, Leo agrees with Elisa's knowledge of her brother's personality and weaknesses. Plus I trust Leo's police sense about Marc being just an easy money dude. He's not evil or brainy enough to kill. He lacks the killing gene or he'd be smacking Ren and Sonia around like The Rug does. JMO
Oh, question : how did Eww find out about them ? He had the address, but was Marc's name written in gold letters on the apartment door ? The only ones who should know about the illicit lovers are Fer and Leo.
I THINK. That is it, somebody correct me if I mangled it.
Sonia is a gold digger but that is no reason for such a cruel end. What about all the self-serving gold digging men here?
She doesn't deserve the end she is facing. She seems determined to get out of those handcuffs and who knows? Maybe she will. Of course being stranded in the middle of the ocean is another seemingly insurmountable option. IF there is a working radio, there might be hope.
Diana
My morning whizzed by but I finally made it. First off, Jardinera, fantastic job on the recap and the sides made it even better.
I agree with everyone's sentiments about Sara. She did talk too much and should have known better, but given that she seems to have no one to talk to, she is probably hungry for anyone who will listen to her.
In regards to how Ewww found Sonia, I don't think Fer had given the address to Eww yet since she was going to wait until Sonia called her to tell her that she had the money. I did notice that they closed in on Sonia's purse when she got to the apartment and it seemed like there was a tracking device on it.
And yes, Ewww left Sonia alive out in the middle of the sea which, IMO, is really stoopid of him because, as Adriana Noel and Kirby have already stated, someone is bound to come along.
Adriana ... " stupidity is costly " ...I am writing that down ...C'est vrai. We all have Marcelo's number ....a lazy guy looking for money, sex, and a life of decadence. Shallow. Sonia is the female version of Marcelo . They don't deserve to die...they deserve to have to get a job and support themselves like normal folks.
And Leo, hey guy, you were winning me over with the cooking , and the kindness towards others,, but dude, you need to step up and be a hero . I need heroes in real life and in telenovelas. ...especially these days . SOS
Now what is ewwwylouy gonna do with
