Imperio de mentiras, #22, 10/21/20 All that beauty and no brains
We pick up where we left of, with Fab asking « absoluta discretion » from Leo. When the cop can’t promise that some information won’t leak to the press, Fab gets all ruffled: he’s here to defend the company, the family and most of all, ELISA. This gets Leo all hot and bothered, too, especially when Fab says that she probably needs protecting from him, too. Oooh, you guys, lame cockfight coming in 3, 2, 1…
Elisa just stands there, barely making a half-ass intervention, she probably likes the attention. She asks the guys to stop fighting, since they have so much problems right now.
Fab goes inside, leaving Leo and Elisa to a lovers quarrel. Leo is upset with the guy’s nerve, but is even more bothered that Elisa didn’t put him in his place. She tries to brush it off, Fab is just confused, they are childhood friends and nothing more, she’s in luuuv with him. Leo is still upset because she wasn’t more firm in front of him, why wouldn’t she tell him that they’re working together and that he’s no danger to the Cantu family?
Elisa promises
to talk to Fab just as Tio Ewwgenio shows up and picks up on the tension. Leo
says goodbye and Elisa and her lovely tio go inside, arm in arm. She's so dumb.
In the house they talk about the fact that Marcelo declared himself guilty (when??). Fab has a lawyer that could help, Tio thinks hiring one would be a waste of money. Elisa is appalled (or tries to be, she’s too dim to realize the vultures are circling). They owe it to Renata to help her husband! Victoria agrees with Tio, thinks they should tell Ren that Marc was in an accident. Elisa is surprised by her lack of compassion, finally Vic agrees to tell Renata what happened and Eww will escort her (since Elisa trusts only him to take care of such a delicate situation!! Did I mention how dumb she is?)
Jose Luis
arrives home very tired. Dinner will be late, since his mom had errands to run.
He realizes Teresa did nothing to help with the meal and he goes to find her in
their room. Tere is on Facebook, spying on Reynaldo, her old flame. JL is upset
that she didn’t do anything around the house, she says she’s tired, or he’s the
only one allowed to have a bad day? Ffw...
Leo is with Adriana and Mario, talking about Marcelo’s admittance of guilt and his sentencing that is about to happen. (Mexican law sure is efficient: commit the crime before breakfast, admit it just in time for brunch, in prison by tea time and sentenced before the sun is down…and no lawyer in sight!)
Leo will try to talk to Marcelo, the fact that he is a thief doesn’t turn him into a criminal. His friends pick up on the fact that he’s not being himself, he denies being jealous but he was bothered by Elisa’s lack of reaction to Fab's words (as he should). Adriana thinks Eli has a lot on her mind right now, he should focus on finding Julia’s killer. Their relationship is making him lose his concentration. Leo doesn’t agree, his main purpose is to solve the murders, so he and Elisa can finally live in peace.
Just then they receive an alert: someone tried to access Rosa Teran’s bank account: Nieves and Clara.
Elisa and Fab talk about his strong reaction to Leo. He apologizes, but he was only thinking about the company. They have some prospective investors, who will turn their backs on them if the press finds out about Marcelo. He insists that he’s not confused, but they need to stick to their business plan in order to save the company. He mentions the Mexico gallery opening, she can take care of that, while he handles the constructora. Elisa is impressed and looks dumber than ever.
Majo comes down to scream some more at her sister, this time accusing her of being in cahoots with Marcelo. Fernasty arrives, too, just in time for Majo to tell Fab to go back to Londres for his own good. She storms out, leaving Elisa to wonder why her sister is acting like this – it almost looks like someone is brainwashing her.
Fer dropped by to offer her services, they talk about Marc’s transfer to the prison and Renata being unaware of the truth for now. Elisa asks Fab and Fer to go home, they’ve already done so much to help, especially Fab, who was at the house the entire day.
Fer innocently
points out that Elisa spent an entire day with Leo, while the company is in
trouble. He is distracting her. And now there is the Renata problem. Fab is
certain that instead of saving the company, he will be saving Elisa. She just looks on, having a simple friend say this to you is, you know, normal.
When Elisa goes upstairs, Fer admits to Fab that she came to get him.
At Renata’s apartment, she’s now in a manic state, still decorating her dinner table, while Victoria and Eww are telling her to come home because they need to talk. Renata takes a look at the two and supposes they plan to tell her about their relationship – the delivery of the line is perfect, great comedic timing from SG. Renata reminds her mother than she never respected her, she always kept her sedated and changed her doctors. Victoria thinks she’s ridiculous and she’s patting herself on the back for having tolerated her for so long (I though Eww was supposed to help?)
Finally Victoria tells Renata that Marcelo is in jail for being a thief. And he’s probably Augusto’s killer, too. Renata has a huge crisis, starts shaking and finally faints.
The doctor who comes to checkup on her advises her mother to keep her sedated for the rest of the night and get her home in the morning.
Alone with Ewwgenio, she complains that she can’t handle her daughters anymore. Eww is in a bad shape, too, he just found out that Sonia was cheating on him with Marcelo. On the plus side, this means they can live their love guilt free. God, he’s sickening.
Leo and Elisa are on the phone, she was worried because he didn’t reply to any of her messages; he explains that he needed to cool off. He could never be upset with her, he luuuvs her. He’ll see Marcelo the next day and no, Elisa can’t come with, but he’ll call as soon as he can.
Outside the Cantu house Fer and Fab are fighting. She’s jealous because Fab has taken his role too seriously, he’s not supposed to truly care. He needs to make Elisa fall for him, take all her money and then they can both go away for good (is this Fer’s endgame? I kind of doubt that she has all that much interest in a long term relationship with Fab).
The next day JL tells Adriana that she has the day off. She’s upset, but decides to use the time to help Leo investigate. Mario will start surveillance on El Cobra’s mother, maybe something can come of this.
Leo visits with Marcelo, who denies that he ever declared himself guilty. He’s still waiting for his lawyer. Leo promises to help, but he needs to know the truth. Marcelo swears that he had nothing to do with Augusto’s murder, Leo surprises him by mentioning Sonia.
Marcelo (who must really care for Sonia since he hasn’t mentioned her until being forced) asks Leo to protect her from Eww, who is capable to kill her. Leo tells Adriana to search for Sonia, who might be in hot waters (pun intended).
Dario is following Clara, who arrives for work at the Cantu house. He asks her to take pictures of everything that is going on in the house, all the comings and goings, all the furniture… Creeeeeep!
Clara asks for money for her father. We’ll see, says Dario.
Elisa makes her morning visit at the office, chats with Fernasty about Renata and Marcelo. She’s sure that Marc is innocent of murder, even if he’s been using the family for money.
Fab shows up to take Elisa away to her office, where all of Dario’s stolen paintings await. Fab is impressed with how professional she always is, that’s way he…appreciates her so much. That new gallery needs to open soon. Elisa is evasive, as always, she asks him to let her handle it.
Dario calls to remind her that he needs those certificates fast, or else she’ll end up in jail. And Leo will find out the whole truth, too.
Leo goes to visit Julia’s parents. He asks Nieves about Rosa Teran, they start fighting. Justino hears them and gets very upset, faints, an ambulance has to take him away.
Teresa is still chatting with her lover to be … Then she gets into it with her mother in law and her daughter. Same old, same old…
Renata is brought home, but she’s in a bad shape, drugged and barely able to walk on her own two feet. Even Majo is impressed and gives her sister a hug, but nothing can touch Victoria, who asks the maid to take her daughter upstairs.
El comandante and Ewwgenio talk about Leo visiting Marcelo. Eww will tell Dario to take care of Marc, but in the meantime, no more visits.
Adriana calls Leo to tell him that Sonia is not at home, apparently she’s at her mother’s. They need to keep searching. Mario’s stake-out is going better, since he sees Majo and Clara visit Piedad and promptly calls Adriana with the news.
Inside the house, Majo tells Piedad that she’s desperate, Dario is hurting her, he needs to get away from her.
Leo comes to the constructora, Fernasty tries to stop him from seeing Elisa, but he goes into her office anyway. Fab agrees to leave them alone (even if he’s not happy about it).
Leo tells Elisa that Marc never confessed to anything, Sonia gave him the artifact and now she’s gone. And Eww could have something to do with it.
Fernasty eavesdrops from behind the door.

Toad-face Teresa: Lord, is there no real way to predict what the person you make babies with will turn into in later years? Thankfully divine providence seems to have a way of correcting some of those errors, as evidenced by the Old Flame who seems stupid enough to make the Toad his problem rather than Jose Louis'. Thank you garbage man.
WTF? what is Sonic doing, working on her tan? Night before last that was a real calamity, tonight, she hardly exists. Maybe she is fishing.
And exactly where do these Can'tDo girls and Vic live in the mall? People just wander in and out all hours of the day and night. At one point I believe there were more gaslighters there than Can'tdos. Out of the shadows, pfft there is FerNasty all of a sudden.
So FerNasty feigned a little catty jealousy over El to Fab Poodle? Ha. Speaking of FerNasty and Fabulous Poodle stealing all the Can'tDo money and running away. Ha Hoo Hee, yessiree FerNasty. It iks more like 'You help me fleece the Can'tDos, then when we have the money I will either frame you for it from the Carribean or just simply kill your Poodle ass sucker.

OK Kidney Pop, you need to stay out of this, err, wait, maybe not. With you no longer needing half the expenditures of Mexico for your ailing pisser, Clara can quit BOTH her jobs and maybe salvage her life. Think about it, wouldn't it be a relief to no longer be around Stone Face Nieves?
Arrrrgh, these people, when Leo went to see El, and yappy FerNasty thought he had to clear it with her first. Grow some Leo, whip out your cuffs, cuff her to a doorknob and when yappy Poodle starts up punch him right on his muzzle, and proceed to see El. When you are finished, uncuff Fer and tell her to have a nice day.
So Leo told El that Sonic is missing and that Ewwww might possibly, maybe, could somehow, be involved. Wonder how long before our Mensa candidate blabs that to Fab Poodle, Fer, Vic, Dario, and whoeverinthehell else is pumping her for info.
Kirby, “Stone Face Nieves” is a good one. SHE should be the one to go out and get two jobs rather than put the burden on her daughters. It always irks me in these novelas when the daughter is stuck supporting the family when the wife could go out and get a job. This seems to be a pretty common theme.
Best scene: when Leo asked Elisa why she didn’t speak up and support him when he was being verbally attacked by Fabricio. She actually wanted LEO to shut up and just let what Fabricio said go. She has a problem. The character is like a wet blanket.
Last night one scene ended with “Ay, tío” and the next one began with “Ay, mi hijo”. Goofy editing unless it was supposed to be funny.
Victoria was downright cruel the way she told Renata about Marcelo. No wonder she reacted like she did. I have a feeling that there is more than a grain of truth every time Renata complains how her mother has had her drugged and has controlled her life all these years, etc. When Victoria was with Eugenio, she seemed just like him. They are both despicable.
At least, Leo is up to date with the info that Marcelo never confessed, about the artifact and that Sonia is missing and now Elisa is.
When is Fernanda going to get caught spying already?
Leo should just come out. He is beginning to set off my Gaydar and he makes brain dead choices in women. There is bound to be a nice boy out there somewhere for him.
So , Dario is back to Scario and no longer Majo's idea of boyfriend material.
Clara is clomping around in her new heels from Victoria's makeover collection spying on Majo for Scario.
Elisa is bamboozled by everyone...Dario, Tioewwe, Fern, and Fab. She loves Leo , but she doesn't defend him against Fab's insults. Is Fern Going to get jealous because Fab actually falls for irresistible Elisa?
In the meantine, Teresa continues her lazy attacks on everyone ..JL, Her daugbter, her MIL . Inexplicably, someone from her murky past is supposed!y interested in her sad,nasty, lazy self. Really ? Why? Another mystery to solve.
I still find it hard to look at Tioeww without giggling at that mop on his head . It's like a pixie cut. Tioeww looks like an evil pixie.
In other news, Vick decides to break the news about Marcelo to Ren in the most horribly cruel way. Witch.
And finally, fictional evil is an escape from present reality. Uff It is a.m., And I am feeling exhausted.

Blinded by the bling or blinded by the blond babe with bling.

ITA with everyone's feelings about Vic. I really don't think that any of the girls have a different father or mother. What I can't believe is how such a cold-hearted bitch could have allowed herself to get pregnant. A person that cold would probably have gotten rid of the babies as soon as she found out that she was pregnant.

Kirby, everybody is welcomed at the Can'tDo Manor, true that, and everybody can snoop around without a care in the world. For a family who has just suffered a murder and a kidnapping, the Can'tDo don't seem to care too much about their own security.
Saddly I agree with you that Justino is not dying anytime soon, because Clara needs to keep getting tormented by the very bad people surrounding her (and by Dario).
Jarifa, love your description of Elisa as a "wet blanket" - last night I was trying to find a way to best describe her behaviour, but the only thing that came tomind was "dumb". When I'm short on creativity, I always go for the most obvious LOL.
RGV, your guess is as good as mine when it comes to Leo's detective skills. I have he suffers from galanitis, like so many Televisa galans before him: the deasease mostly appears in (halfway) handsome, good at their job professionals, who all of a sudden forget even basic life skills.
Susanlynn, I don't think Elisa is hiding anything, either, she's just useless when it comes to a big family crisis because she has alxays had a sheltered life. As it is, I would even say she's handling herslef OK, but she keeps lying to everyone around her and making all kinds of bad decisions.
Jardinera, why we have to witness Teresa's love tryst with her college sweetheart is beyond my comprehension. I would much rather see Leslie or Clara with a boyfriend, but those two poor girls are relegated to being pawns in their mothers' sick games.

Perpetually troubled and in tears - there surely has to be something else we are not seeing. If not, how can we possibly root for this helpless, hapless "heroine"?

Given hours (or days) the wind out on open water can move a boat great distances. Not like under power, mind you, but more than you'd think. There are many stories of boats whose propulsion failed miles from anywhere and the wind picks up a little and they find themselves tens of miles from their original breakdown.
Wouldn't it be a hoot if HMS Sonia washed up ashore back near their takeoff point? A nice onshore breeze could make it happen. The Math: You lose sight of land (earth's curvature) around 10 or 11 miles out. They would probably not have gone much farther than that. Say it is blowing at 10 MPH which is just a nice breeze, and the boat is being blown at 3 or 4 miles per hour for you land people. Then it could easily get back in less than overnight, like three to five hours. Big tall boats like that present a good 'sail' area to the wind as compared to low slung speedboats too.
But I would not think these TN people would be capable of constructing something with that many concurrent sensible thoughts.
Victoria is a bitchy mess. She has the nerve to look shocked when the rug tells her he found out sonia was cheating on him with marcelo.

Majo has been brainwashed by Dario, which is what is making her think Elisa is the enemy. It will be a long time before she knows she is mistaken about this.
I think that Fernanda is looking to steal the Cantu fortune, get it all into an anonymous account in the Cayman Islands, and frame Fabricio for all of it once she sees that his hormones are going for Elisa instead. (Prediction; I haven't seen the original of this).
There is no reason to think that the Cantu sisters have different fathers. I also think that the ages given for the Cantu women aren't quite accurate in that article. As for why Victoria allowed herself to get pregnant when she hasn't a maternal bone in her body, that could have been all about holding onto Augusto at the time. We don't really have enough information about his financial history to know what he had in the bank at the time of their marriage nor do we know the family history of either of them. Not sure whether we should expect that information either.
She is no more capable of love than Eugenio is.
Whether Dario knocks off Marcelo or not, I don't want to see him and Majo together at the end of this story. He is just as sick and twisted as Eugenio.
I am not sure what's going to happen with Scario de Dario. He's not galán material to be sure, but he might redeem himself eventually. However, his relationship with Majo is DYSFUNCTIONAL hugely. I don't expect a good end for him. I'd love it if it would be possible, because an enemy of my enemy (in this case, Uncle Rug aka EWWWW) is my friend. But I don't think it's in the cards for this telenovela.
Is anyone else suspicious about why Castro-lookalike JL was coming out of coworker's Adriana's apartment? The other coworker (the guy with the comb-up hair) seemed suspicious of it all. It was a perplexing scene. I think either JL is having an affair with her (but she's far too young!) or it's supposed to look look like he's having an affair to Viewerville and to the coworker for now. I don't always understand the nuances of this show (which is harder, comprehension wise, for me than other telenovelas I've watched) but I think there's something there.
I suspect we are going to be left with the impression that Sonia has died, only she'll pop up later to put a spanner in the works. I hope, anyway.
There are several of us who agree with you about Dario and Majo’s relationship, DYSFUNCTIONAL indeed!!
And YES! JLuis coming out of Adri’s house and the looking as guilty as she did can lead anyone to be suspicious about what is actually going on between them. Some of us have commented on the current page and we are skeptical about some type of questionable relationship between them. Hope you get to read those comments.
