Que Pasa, Peeps! Pray you all are well and had whatever kind of weekend you desired! Who else in the world finds health care financing $EXY!? We do, THE MEDICOS PATIO! That said, small disclaimer: I make no pretense at understanding health care financing in any country, lay another language on top of that and, uh, yah; don’t come for me! Let’s see how fast I can wrap this thing up! Chime in as usual. Vamanos!
Montesinos finishes up his chat with Rene and it’s all back-slapping and congratulations! Rene promises to move forward immediately with selecting the Administrative Director of the Instituto. He offers the position to Ana! Rene dangles a fixed, higher salary, no more direct patient care and the chance to see her management measures duplicated throughout the Instituto and even all public health care facilities! To his credit, he does recognize some truths about Ana: she is organized, she is an excellent Doctor; she understands medicine and the patients’ needs and she has shown she can do a lot with very little. This is the kind of efficiency the Instituto needs! Rene maintains Regina has been Gonzalo’s right hand and the ER has gotten preference; he wants Ana to be his right hand. For a minute it seems that the chance to be Regina’s boss and jack her around is an offer she can’t refuse, but she says “no,” but will think about it.
Quick snips of future scenes. Pamela convinces Luz to put Carmen on the transplant list; Luz is reluctant because her drug addiction makes her a poor candidate. Pam tells Luz she is going to look for Carmen’s Daughter who would be able to share part of her liver. Luz thinks that it’s a daunting task to canvass all the nurseries associated with the church where the baby was left. Pam trots off, happy that the first part of her mission is accomplished. Luis, with covers pulled over his head, calls Paulina. Gonzalo waits outside the Instituto with other folk, some leaning against the wall, most looking decidedly uncomfortable. Regina is surprised to find him outside and is furious at this kind of treatment of Gonzalo and patients’ families and is about to go give Rene what for. Gonzalo stops her. It takes some doing, but he convinces her that this is just what Rene wants and it’s not worth it. He reminds her they must stay united and not fall into Rene’s provocations! She agrees. Tania finds Daniel chatting animatedly with Clara. She breaks it up and tells Clara not to get her hopes up: Daniel is very busy. Tania tosses a mean smile over her shoulder at a crestfallen Clara. Rafa finds Cinthia in the cafeteria and immediately sees she’s a bit down. Yeah, it’s all the changes in the Instituto. They agree what happened is unjust. He vows to support her in any way she wants to help. She’s hesitant about approaching her Mother; he thinks it could be helpful and a way to bring them closer together. She’ll think about it.
David finds Regina in the common room. He greets her with a quick kiss and finds her all business: she’s working on the daily ER patient report Rene requested. Regina takes David up on his offer to help, noting that Rene probably only asked for the report to bug her. Regina asks David if he fought with some people in the central marketplace. Why is he so impulsive? What if something had happened to him? David clarifies her understanding of how it went down: He did not start any fight. Daniel’s family was being extorted by a loan shark and he just put them in their place. Regina is relentless in her insistence that David had lost control. “There are many ways to resolve a conflict before it comes to blows!” she exclaims. David exhales, bows his head and then looks up. “You are right and I promise you, I will control myself.” Regina extends her point, “You have to do it here as well because Rene is going to start harassing us and we can’t fall into his provocations.” David answers, “Well, I can’t promise you anything with that jerk.” Regina continues to look a bit stern. David softens. “Okay, whatever you say, jefecita.” Regina says it’s for his good; it’s for the good of them all! David reaches his hand out to touch hers, “I’m glad you look out for me, but don’t get angry at me.” They get back to work on the report.
Regina turns her report in to Rene and ends up in a face-off with him. He thinks her report stinks. Why? She’s treating patients and then sending them home; he thinks they should be admitted: that way the Instituto can make more money off them! Regina adamantly refuses to exploit people this way! Rene growls that she is spouting Gonzalo’s tired old line! Rene maintains that he has already had Luz adjust the billing structure so that everybody pays; doing things his way will benefit everyone, including her area! He threatens to find someone to fill her position who will do things his way. Regina tells him frankly that it would not be to his advantage to replace her without having a substitute: it will make him look impulsive to the Subsecretary of Health. She dares him to fire her; he says “don’t tempt me.” “What you are asking me to do is abusive of people, and I’m not going to do it! Proceed however you wish!” Regina turns on her heels and leaves, ignoring Rene’s bark to close the door. He slams it behind her! Back to the wonders of health care finance in a bit!
Tie up the quick snips. Rafa and Pam discuss Carmen near the Nurses’ station; most adoptions are private, she has to find another way to get information. Rene and Miryea are nearby. Rene demands to see Carmen’s chart. Miryea makes sure it’s known that Carmen is not paying anything. Rene wants her discharged immediately! Pam says no; she’s waiting on a transplant and twists the truth a bit by saying Carmen’s Daughter, the prospective donor is in another state and hasn’t arrived yet. Rene wants to see the Daughter when she arrives and gives Pam two days for her to appear, after which Carmen is discharged! Rafa takes her aside and asks why Pam said that! Because Carmen will relapse if she is discharged! Rafa learns from Pam that she shares Carmen’s blood type: AB negative. He discourages her from going to the lab to be checked to see if she’s a donor, reminding her of the risk involved. Rafa says he will scour the list of donors and encourages her to concentrate on finding the Daughter! Later Pamela springs herself on Regina and asks to be able to come in late the next morning. Pam does admit she’s trying to find Carmen’s Daughter and Regina warns her that she’s getting too involved! Regina relents after a bunch of “pretty pleases”. Pam scurries off!
Luis and Paulina meet at a restaurant. She is moved that he called her because he wanted to see her; she’s the only person that makes him feel better. They walk in a beautiful square. He thanks her for her support. Paulina waves off the thanks; she’s always enjoyed herself with him, especially the times when they were alone, in silence. Luis almost kisses her but pulls back and calls her down. She covers by babbling about a desert place. We see them later arriving at Art’s place. They did go to the desert place. Paulina prepares to go; he asks her to stay; he doesn’t want to be alone. Paulina cancels all her afternoon appointments. She tells Luis he will always be priority for her. They finally kiss. There was a transition of night to day scene after which Art gets home. Perhaps he was on call all night. Paulina and Luis invite Art to join them on the sofa and when asked, Art tells Luis about the Gonzalo scandal. After a bit Paulina leaves, she has a very early morning surgery. Art notes that Luis looks much better. Yes, he needed to distract himself. The friends seem to share a brief, subtle, knowing smile. Luis says he is very worried about what Art told him. “I’ve got to return to the Instituto!” Luis declares.
Tania makes a surprise evening visit to the Juarez’s café. She orders one of the best tortas in town. Elena seems strangely annoyed. Daniel and Tania sit at a table and she finds out Daniel considers Clara “just a friend,” and suggests she and Daniel go out some time. After she leaves, Elena questions Daniel about whether he still has feelings for Tania: It’s obvious she didn’t just “stop by” the cafe; she must be interested in him! Daniel is a bit evasive but maintains that he had to change his feelings about Tania to be able to continue working with her. Elena does not seem convinced. I think she fears Tania could hurt him again.]
Felipe and Gonzalo have a good heart to heart standing outside the Instituto. Felipe wonders why Gonzalo is enduring all this: first losing his job and now this humiliation. Gonzalo tells Felipe not to worry about the brouhaha in the Instituto; sooner or later the truth will come to light; this situation is separate from his concern for Felipe and Aurora. Gonzalo is doing all he does because he loves Felipe and wants him to be happy at his Mama’s side. Despite everything that happened, he never forgot Aurora and never stopped loving her. Why did he let her leave? He was an idiot! Felipe says it hurt him a lot when they divorced and Javier ended up in a position he didn’t deserve. Felipe thinks maybe this has all served to give him and his Mama a reality check. Gonzalo says it hurts to see them suffer but from here on out the three of them will overcome this; what happens later doesn’t matter. “What matters is that you and your Mama are well.” Felipe offers Gonzalo a genuinely warm embrace and gives him the pass and beams a smile of peaceful appreciation.
Gonzalo finds Aurora feeling better. They also have a heart to heart. Despite his reassuring her she is not responsible for the fracas in the Instituto, she apologizes for that and also for her mistakes of the past. She thought Javier would always be there for her, but he left her when she needed him most. Now, here is Gonzalo, by her side, having lost everything, all for her. She says all she has done is hurt him. Gonzalo reminds her of the tremendous gift of Felipe. No, all she did was raise him to hate Gonzalo. Aurora says she doesn’t want to die, but fears she may not have much time left and wants him to know she will never forget what he is doing for her and to forgive her for being so egotistical with him. Gonzalo is gracious and offers his own apologies for likewise being egotistical. They make a pact of mutual forgiveness.
The celebratory dinner at the Castillos is attended by Andres and Patricia Guerrero; Esteban and Marcos Zavala and Montesinos. There are the toasts and the preening by Rene and Connie. Montesinos presents Esteban as wanting to make a donation to the Instituto. Esteban says his son has kept him posted on happenings at the Instituto but he needs to be assured that it is a place that has favorable working conditions. Rene presents his plan to pull the Instituto out of the financial hole by not only increasing the cost of care but charging cuotas de recuperación: or recovery fees. [These are monies that the patient must pay directly to the health service provider to help finance health services. Remember by disclaimer? Bottom line, Rene wants to charge patients more money, in addition to having already eliminated the calculation that allowed some patients to pay nothing. If this turns you on, please look it up!] Montesinos thinks that might be extreme and the Guerreros also seem a bit alarmed. Rene says the fees are a necessary evil: Once the five million peso loss from the law suit is covered; the recovery fees can be discontinued. Marco asks what will happen if Gonzalo is vindicated in the investigation? Rene says the Secretary of Health makes the decision to return him to his post or not. Montesinos adds that Gonzalo is an excellent Doctor, but was a disappointment as an administrator. Marco presses on, asking if there is a way to return Gonzalo to his post. Marco seems to be careful not to appear too invested in this outcome. Rene says the superiors have the last word, and until that happens, he will not only maintain the Instituto at the level it is, but he will take it further! Connie proposes a toast to this. Connie tells Patricia next time she should bring her daughter, Cinthia. Patricia says she will; as a matter of fact, she has a favor to ask. Connie says whatever you wish, but seems a bit uncomfortable and Rene quickly interjects that Andres is welcome to a personal tour of the Instituto by the Director himself. Andres accepts. Hmmmm.
Finally, it’s evening and Pamela has just talked to Regina securing permission to come in late the next morning. As soon as she leaves, David approaches and with a double vamanos, they head “home.” In this case, home is Regina’s place and when next we see them they are in bed, sheets tucked discreetly over Regina’s breasts but David’s firm but gently muscled torso and arms are bared. Regina is to his left, literally resting on his broad shoulders. David tells her he’s been thinking a lot about what she said and he doesn’t want them to have problems about that or anything. Regina agrees. He says he knows there are things in his character that he has to change. Yes, exactly, Regina says, and it’s for his own good. He says it’s not an excuse, but he thinks because of the way he grew up; in one way or another, life taught him to defend himself against everything. “The only thing is I want is for you to understand that I worry about you, a lot.” “I know,” David says, kissing Regina’s forehead, “thank you but please trust that I know how to take care of myself.” Regina sits up and looks David in the eyes. Her left hand is laced with his right. “I just couldn’t bear it if anything happened to you, because I love you so much.” “And so do I,” he whispers as his eyes sweep down to the sweet target of her lips. They get lost in the tender kisses as they instinctively pull each other closer and clasp each other’s faces and Regina caresses David’s beard. We leave them to their bliss.
“The only thing is I want is for you to understand that I worry about you, a lot.”
should be
“The only thing I want is for you to understand that I worry about you, a lot.”
Lila, you wrapped this up beautifully, what a gift you gave us! Thank you!
Ana surprised me by saying "no" to Renafarious, but when she thinks about how she can make Regina's life miserable, I think she will change her mind. That smirk she had said it all.
Gonzalo/Felipe/Aurora I'm happy that Gonzalo is getting back his family. Looks like this storyline is being wrapped up.
Tania/Daniel/Clara Tania is really being selfish. I just can't see her being "in love" with Daniel. She should just gracefully step aside and let Daniel find his happiness with Clara. There's a saying in Spanish: El perro no come, ni deja comer (The dog won't eat, neither does he let others eat) In this case, it's a perrA :-)
Regina gained points and lost points. Bravo that she stood up to Renefarious, but I hate that she is trying to (s)mother David. He's a big boy and can take care of himself. David better think twice about being with a woman who is trying to force him to change who he is.
Pamela Still feeling sorry for her. She's going to open up her own can of worms. I know it hasn't been confirmed that she is Carmen's daughter, but the stars are lining up fast!
The Dinner It seemed to me that everyone (except the nasty hosts) seemed uncomfortable. Cindy's dad especially looked doubtful. I'm hopeoing that he is a much better businessman than he is a father.
Paulina frustrates me. She is such an annoying leech! And Luis is being such a wimp. It was really weird that, when Art came in, he sat on the same small couch with Pam and Luis. Were there no other chairs??? Were they all sharing the same mic???
Thank you, Rgv Chick!! Rgv Chick, last night didn't feel so bad after the heck they've take us through. AND, they took a page from my book and ended with Regina and David! YAAAA!!!
Tania is being ugly and mean! That saying sadly fits her! UUUUUFFFF!
David and Regina: He's a big boy and can take care of himself. David better think twice about being with a woman who is trying to force him to change who he is.
YIKES! I hate to admit it but that's kinda what Ana warned him of. Notice David did tell her that she needs to trust him that he can take care of himself. Acting like a (s)mother is NOT sexy. Watch out Re!
And the dinner. Yah. It was interesting how Rene and Connie seemed coordinated in their attempt to stop Patricia from asking her favor. Wonder what that was about?
Rgv Chick. How did I do not over-emoting about Paulina? I'm kinda proud of myself! Yah, that was weird. Art was like, uh, did y'all take shower afterwards! JAJAJAJA! One thing's for sure, if Susana does ever come out of her deep, paralyzing depression, Paulina will have Luis totally wrapped up. I think they're writing Susana out.
MUCHISIMAS GRACIASS!!
Chickie, i dont understand what people are saying but i, too, felt that the guests at that dinner party looked uncomfortable except for the always cheery , animated Patricia ,who seems to love a party no matter what is actually happening around her . Ana had a particularly nasty smirk on her face after her conversation with the increasingly confident and smarmy Rene.
Thank you, Susanlynn! You are welcome! I don't care what anyone does, just leave my David and Regina alone!
On second thought of Regina's warning David, I think this gave her a chance to outright say that she loves David. She couldn't stand it if anything happened to him because she LOVES HIM SO MUCH!!!!! AWWWWWW! And he brought up his childhood again. Maybe after lots more of her "disarming" him, he'll relax some AND she will trust more that he know how to take care of himself. If she could've seen how he reacted TWICE to Arts provocations, she would understand that he HAS grown and IS changing!
A short story conveying human emotions to perfection Lila. So detailed and perfectly painted.
"They make a pact of mutual forgiveness" will not completely eradicate the past but signifies a new path to be forged with hope, and love.
"We leave them to their bliss" yet alas, thunder is rumbling. "Regina is relentless in her insistence that David had lost control" surely signifies a major storm on the horizon.
"Felipe offers Gonzalo a genuinely warm embrace and gives him the pass and beams a smile of peaceful appreciation". Nothing is impossible once perceived and real hurts are set aside.
"She breaks it up and tells Clara not to get her hopes up: Daniel is very busy. Tania tosses a mean smile over her shoulder at a crestfallen Clara". Clara was thunderstruck. Devastated. Those cruel words just to fuel Tania's already inflated ego. No ESP necessary. "(The dog won't eat, neither does he let others eat)". Your words conveyed everything needed to be said Rgv Chick. Excellent!
"Luis, with covers pulled over his head, calls Paulina". Sighing and head shaking ensues.
"Elena seems strangely annoyed". She is far more perceptive than I gave her credit for. She knows damn well Tania ain't there for the torta. Teasing and manipulating? Yes.
I agree Ana will take the job.
The jury's still out as to what Marco's true feelings are. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt but as long as papa is holding the purse strings, I don't see him willing or able to leave golden goose daddy.
Any doubt that Rafa's words to Pamela will mean she will be the donor??? Pamela has such a good heart. I think she will make room for Carmen in her life as will her parents.
I have purposely not mentioned R or M. Neither deserve it. Patricia's voice and words with her high, frantic tone are getting on my nerves. Poor Cinthia.
Lila, you've done it yet again. Superb. Thank you!
Diana
Good morning, Diana!AA Thank you so much! I'm ever trying to be thorough without writing a novelette! This episode felt so much better than the last, what, two weeks?
Aurora is long from being the horror we first met; Felipe has finally lost his "stank face". When he finally calls him "Papa" there won't be a dry eye on the Patio!!
Clara was thunderstruck. Devastated. Those cruel words just to fuel Tania's already inflated ego.
Darn that Tania! I was giving her all kinds of points for seeing Daniel as the worthy person he is, not somebody to use or as less than because he doesn't fit her definition of "sexy."
ITA! She knows damn well Tania ain't there for the torta. Teasing and manipulating? Yes.
I want Clara for Daniel! Fooey on you, Tania!
Also ITA about Marcos. I have hope for him though having the nerve to ask Rene what if Gonzalo is innocent and is there a path for him back to the Directorship!
Sweet Pamela. It will be shocking, shocking I tell you, if Pamela is NOT Carmen's Daughter.
It took me a moment to think....R or M! GOTCHA! Ok. I won't say anything about the scum! JAJAJAJA!
Here we go, Diana! This week should be good!
Okay, Diana!AAis supposed to be Diana!!! Oooops!
Hola y GRACIAS, SpanProf!!!! I couldn't believe Rene's cockamamie scheme! I thought he would want to discharge people early but this whole "recovery fee" thing I guess means ka-ching! And his willingness to openly invite people to corruption! He told her, "No one has to know!" Ana might say yes at first, but once he makes this kind of unethical proposition to HER, she will help bring him down. She has worked to hard to allow him to drag her through the mud and then into prison! What a miserable peace of work he is!
I too thought that Andres looked very skeptical at the Castillos' dinner. He may be a controlling jerk, but he's probably also pretty smart.
Amen, Sister! Add Andres to the growing number of people who will eventually help expose this jerk!
Ah our Romance Writer continues to delight:
Regina sits up and looks David in the eyes.
Especially loved "his eyes sweep down to the sweet target of her lips" Oh baby! yes yes yes! And if you kiss her you can shut her up. Because I didn't care for her Strict Mother act any more than RGV Chick did. David's crazy in love now so he'll let it go. But down the road, that could be a real romance killer.
I love scenes of "making amends" so I enjoyed the conversation of Gonzalo with his former wife. And it seems to signal that she's a goner. Now that she's had a chance to amend her mistakes, she's free to go to "the better place" and boy, I sure hope there is one, since I'm inching closer to the Exit sign myself.
I loved that Daniel's mom immediately sensed that Tania was up to no good and was giving her the stink eye the whole time. Chickie, we have a similar saying in English to your "perros" dicho. It's called being a dog in the manger. Tania needs to butt out of that sweet romance--Sweetie Pie Nurse and Daniel are made for each other.
Luis is a noodle. But evidently he's going to end up with Pamela. I don't really care.
I knew there would be enough barfy stuff in this episode, that I couldn't bear to watch it last night, LILA. Instead my husband and I took a walk, enjoying the last balmy night of October and scuffling through the leaves underfoot while enjoying the neighbors' Halloween decorations. More and more the outdoors seems to be calling me--the stars, the moon, the sun, the October blue sky, the golden leaves--all of natural Life seems especially precious during these pandemic times.
But you are precious too, dear friend, so I'll always watch and always comment on your splendid recaps. Thanks.
Judy! Judy! Judy! Hey, Girl! This is HILARIOUS:
. . . Oh baby! yes yes yes! And if you kiss her you can shut her up. Because I didn't care for her Strict Mother act any more than RGV Chick did. David's crazy in love now so he'll let it go. But down the road, that could be a real romance killer.
Yes, shut her up, indeed! We'll cut her some slack because at their first intimate rendezvous he openly declared his love for her but she could only cautiously say, "I'm starting to have really strong feelings for you," and "I think I'm falling in love with you." So, I guess she had to come out of a worrying space to profess her love. But, you're right, Judy. Their first kiss was him shutting her up as she couldn't figure out all of his so-called out of control behavior was due to his love for her. Silly girl!
JudyB, sadly, it does sound like Aurora is making peace befor she transitions! Gosh! How sad that will be for Gonzalo! If there's a second season, will they let Gonzalo get a little luurve!
ITA: Sweetie Pie Nurse and Daniel are made for each other.
Writers, please don't let Daniel be taken by the same chick twice! Jeezopete!!!
OMG, Judy! What a lovely outburst:
I knew there would be enough barfy stuff in this episode, that I couldn't bear to watch it last night, LILA. Instead my husband and I took a walk, enjoying the last balmy night of October and scuffling through the leaves underfoot while enjoying the neighbors' Halloween decorations. More and more the outdoors seems to be calling me--the stars, the moon, the sun, the October blue sky, the golden leaves--all of natural Life seems especially precious during these pandemic times.
And your parting salutation makes me want to just bawl! Thank you, Amiga! So happy to share the barfy and the beautiful moments of this little piece with you!
Thank you, Lila!
The plans that Rene has for the instituto are just ridiculous. I’m not so surprised by him recruiting Ana but the methods he has for financial gain are clearly unethical.
I don’t think Luis is in the right state of mind to be thinking of pursuing something with Paulina. I feel like at this point whatever happens between him and Susana is up to Susana. While he’s respecting her need for space they’ve yet to actually discuss the status of their marriage. While she has yet to say whether she wants to reconcile she hasn’t said anything about divorce either. So there may be a little sliver of hope.
I’m also glad to see that things are getting better between Gonzalo and Aurora/Felipe. Gonzalo knows better to not give up this time like Javier did.
It’s going to be quite a surprise for Pam because it’s clear that they won’t need to wait for a donor from somewhere else.
Hi, TF!!!! MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS!!
TF, we can extend "unethical" to Paulina's pursuit of Luis. Jeezopete! I agree, he's in no state to pursue anything with Paulina or to return to work. He had an open-ended bereavement leave. Well, anyway, they are not listning to me about him needing at least a brief in-patient psych stay. We'll see where this is going. Is it going to be like Susana just died? Luis certainly is dead to her!
TF. We went through some rough times, but some interesting stories have yet to be tied up! I hope they don't leave us on too much of a cliff or leave us with unpalatable, illogical "endings!"
Wonderful Lila!
I thought Ana was going to jump at the opportunity to make Regina’s life miserable lol. I was surprised she said no. But then when Rene started rubbing her shoulder (yuck!) I though she, ok well I wouldn’t want to work closely with Rene either!
The Carmen situation has to get solved in 2 days, otherwise she gets discharged... how many adoption agencies are there in Mexico City? Pamela didn’t even take the day off to do this, only asked to be late to work. Are they going to expect us to believe Pamela finds out she’s the lost daughter in a couple hours?!
Tania’s attitude is... ugly. I don’t think she’s interested in Daniel in a romantic way, but I think she likes having him fawning over her. You can tell she’s the kind of person used to having everyone attracted to her, and we already knows she’s taken advantage of having Daniel after her like a lovesick puppy dog. She’s not interested in Daniel, but she doesn’t want Daniel to be with anyone else because it’s not convenient for HER. If she was a good friend she would be happy that a nice girl like Clara would want to date him.
I got annoyed at Regina that she kept saying there were “other ways” to resolve issues. If you get attacked by thugs, no there isn’t! The only thing you can do is fight back and defend yourself! You can’t sit down and have a peaceful talk with someone beating you up! Ugh!! I think David also felt like he wasn’t going to get anywhere trying to explain and that’s why he just said “ok you’re right”
Regina finally said she loved David.. and yet, it didn’t make me excited like I had thought it would. She said she loved him only after David said he would change and that doesn’t sit right with me. I love that David isn’t the stereotypical novela “galán.” And Regina is trying to change him into.. what? Someone with no character? A pushover?
Hey, UnOp!!! Welcome, y gracias!
Yes, Rene has a high "yuck factor."
THIS IS ONLY SPECULATION. I think rather than going to look for the Daughter, Pamela is going to go to an external lab somewhere and get whatever test one has to get to determine if she's a tissue match for Carmen. She could probably get that in the knick of time to keep Carmen from being discharged.
She’s not interested in Daniel, but she doesn’t want Daniel to be with anyone else because it’s not convenient for HER. If she was a good friend she would be happy that a nice girl like Clara would want to date him.
Yep, we agree! UGLY!!
I totally agree that David saw he couldn't get Regina to see what he was talking about so he just said, yes you're right. Totally agree! Notice, he also said when they were in bed that he doesn't want them to have problems about this, or anything. He also has twice asked her not to be angry with him. He wants to get off to a good start with Regina and doesn't want these "little" disagreements to derail him.
A pushover?
ITA UnOp! You and me, like others, are here for the LOVE and that WAS a tepid profession. I hope if there is going to be something to make her state more unconditionally that she loves David, I hope it doesn't involve him following her "peace and love" formula and then getting hurt! Again, if she could see how he didn't cave to Art's provocations, she coulda skipped that whole conversation and just gotten mesmerized by the magic wand!
Hahaha magic wand!!! And you’re right! More than once Art has tried to provoke David and he has kept his cool. If he was impulsive and tried to solve everything with violence like Regina says, he would’ve punched Art at the first provocation! Ugh but of course David isn’t going to be like “hey look at me Regina, I kept my composure while Art was being an a-hole” lol
TF: I'm assuming "Quererlo Todo" will be in the Primetime evening slots or will it be in the Daytime slots on Univision ?
Lila, you crack me up! Who else in the world finds health care financing $EXY!? We do, THE MEDICOS PATIO!
And you keep bringing the romance!
And so do I,” he whispers as his eyes sweep down to the sweet target of her lips. -- Sigh!
Ditto everything Rgv Chick and everybody said about Tania. She's spoiled and selfish and Daniel's mama's radar is up.
Sorry this is late; great work, Lila!
Regarding Tania, I wonder whether the writers are taking inspiration from the actress' name: Scarlett Gruber. She's acting like Scarlett O'Hara, who had to have all the men fawning over her. I would have thought that Marco was her speed, especially if he comes from money.
Jury is still out on Marco, as far as I'm concerned, but I think that Ana is enough of an asshole to take Rene up on his offer.
I hope everyone there realizes that Rene's scheme is unethical and that somebody thinks far enough ahead to realize that what he is doing will bring the hospital down.
Thank you, Niecie!!! Girl. Wait to you see what I post below. I'm afraid the writer's have temporarily knocked me off my game. I need a good night's sleep. Thank you, Girl!
Urbanita!!! Always a pleasure, Amiga! You are psychic: Ana IS enough of an asshole. . just read below or watch tonight's show. Urban, I hope they bring Rene down soon. I actually feel a little sick right now. See y'all tomorrow!
Hey, Peeps! I have to be honest with you; tonight was so bad, I can’t sleep on it. I can’t even do a write up of the lovely kissing scene that began the episode. Add what you wish or even skip the recap: my feelings won’t be hurt. I’m not even going to proofread it! They really socked it to us tonight! Just remember; if you’re following a novela on a blog, you are blessed and I still wish all of you well! Vamanos!
Ana accepted the position of Administrative Director and called Regina on the carpet. She reduces Regina’s medical supplies by 30 per cent and takes it for the outpatient clinic AND requires David to work in the OPC two times per week. Regina also has to give Ana daily extensive reports on the status of each patient upon admission, treatments given, materials used and status upon discharge. Ana wants to do an exhaustive review of her how the ER is managed.
Rene wants Regina fired so Miryea proposes to Rene that she can use the tension between Art and David to achieve this. The fuse is already lit when Art – AGAIN – gets in David’s face and tells him all the actions I describe above are HIS FAULT: Because of his past relationship with Ana, she is gratuitously hurting Regina. David doesn’t take that bait but Miryea purposely puts one patient’s paperwork in a different chart and tells David Regina wanted him to see the patient. It is NOT the patient Regina wanted him to see, it’s Art’s patient with the wrong paperwork. Because of that, the patient is almost purposely given a wrong med by Miryea. David catches the error, confronts Art and it quickly devolves into a shouting match with Art screaming to the top of his lungs and in front of all the staff that Regina doesn’t deserve to be with an idiot like him. It comes to blows just as Montesinos, Cinthia’s parents, Rene and Connie, Esteban and his (MIA) wife and Marco round the corner with Regina leading them in a tour of the ER. As a matter of fact, Art is able to get a good slug in on David because Regina yells his name and distracts him! The men present have to hold Art and David apart!
In other news, Pam realizes Carmen must be her Mother after finding too many coincidences between the nursery that receives babies from the church where Carmen left her infant, to the baby’s age when left at the church and the age of adoption, not to mention shared blood type. Tania sneakily gets an oral swab from Carmen and after much agonizing, Pam takes it to the lab for DNA testing. Pam is more than conflicted because she loves her Parents, doesn’t want her life to change and Pilar is her Mother! Tania says Pilar will always be her Mother, she is just finding out if Carmen is her biological Mother. Pam agrees with Tania that although this step is scary, she could not live with never finding out when she had the chance. Pam becomes emotional later when examining Carmen and tells her it’s because she is also excited about Carmen finding her daughter.
Luis returns to work. Clara tries to ask Daniel out for a date; he’s very busy and is further distracted when he sees Luis. Gonzalo also welcomes Luis back. Rene is nasty to Luis about any future absences and rapidly reads him the policy about unexcused absences. Luis redeems himself by pointing at Rene before he leaves and saying, “I hope you know what it means to sit in that chair!”
Cinthia does meet with her Mother, but Patricia has her new shadow, Connie in tow. Cinthia still shares that she thinks it unfair what was done to Gonzalo and doesn’t believe it and thinks he should get his position back. I don’t know if Connie knows the whole theft was a set up but both Connie and her Mom offer shallow assurances that everything will be fine. Patricia says if Gonzalo didn’t do it, the truth will come to light. Connie doesn’t seem to wince, so she may not know. Cinthia is bummed.
The episode ends with the fight.
Great work, Lila, and feel better.
I can't believe that Arturo and David were crazy enough to fall into that trap. They all know what Rene is.
Constanza doesn't, though. She doesn't even give a thought to the possibility of financial shenanigans on his part. She just wants her AmEx bill paid.
At this rate Mireya will do something that endangers or kills a patient. I had hoped she had drawn the line on that, but I have been wrong before.
Thanks, Urban! Was it you that said we were entering "The Pit?" That is absolutely right! I know as bad as last night was, tonight will be just as bad or worse. I haven't been on the Patio in a long time and even when you're warned, the land mines these writers lay in these stories can still get you! I knew they were building up to a fight between David and Art but Miryea's criminal involvement was infuriating. She put the wrong papers in the patient's chart, directed David to the wrong patient and made sure David saw her drawing up the wrong drug. She wasn't going to give it, but made David think she was, and that was enough! Earlier Regina and David were discussing Ana's draconian and provocative materials and staff changes, Miryea was nearby listening to everything. Miryea also heard Regina ask David to see her patient. That gave her everything she needed to set the trap that Art and David fell into. The problem is NOBODY suspects that ho' of being the bottom-dwelling, manipulating, lying skank that she is! Regina should know how Miryea is, but Regina seems to be too easily deceived as I'm sure she'll accuse David of starting the fight!
Yes, Peeps, I know this is only a novela, only a novela.....Thanks for your support, Urban! You've been through a lot of these. These actors are excellent and I am one of those that can really get drawn into a story, whether in a book or on a screen, and they got me last night! I do feel better! Thanks!
Lila, you related the dank and dark perfectly. Yet, you refused to let the depressing completely engulf the summary. You deftly managed to slit the sky to allow rays of hope: “Pam is more than conflicted because she loves her Parents, doesn’t want her life to change and Pilar is her Mother! Tania says Pilar will always be her Mother, she is just finding out if Carmen is her biological Mother”. Tense as a tightrope with the overt implications with what this revelation will bring, but rife with happy possibilities nevertheless.
“Clara tries to ask Daniel out for a date; he’s very busy and is further distracted” was pure pain. I was aghast that Daniel did not give her his attention and even more so, that he didn’t realize what Clara was struggling to say. And he’s busy doing what? Something I thought was so full of promise seems to have died on the vine before it began.
“Miryea's criminal involvement was infuriating”. Evil incarnate. I think she is now a notch above Rene on the despicable scale. And now David’s future, professional and personal hangs in the balance.
Lila, relating the story when things are going well and everything abounds with happiness is hard enough. It is when everything is cloaked in darkness when recaps are most challenging. You rose to the occasion admirably. Thank you for slogging through this mudfest with insight and filling us in on so many details.
Thank you so much!
Diana
Dearest Diana, thank you so much. I didn't want to post a rant but I didn't want to think too much about the huge monkey wrench that was thrown into the smooth running machine of the Instituto ER. Yet, it's been unfolding ever since the framing and demotion of Gonzalo. Sentiments such as these help keep me out of novela neurosis:
Lila, you related the dank and dark perfectly. Yet, you refused to let the depressing completely engulf the summary. You deftly managed to slit the sky to allow rays of hope:
But, alas, this is not about me! Wow! Hasn't this Mother and Child story really ramped up! And it is also just beginning to unfold. Pam's expression when the weight of those "coincidences" hit her was another heart-gripping moment! All of you who said this revelation would be a bombshell for Pamela are right! It hasn't even exploded all the way yet. High drama ahead!
Miryea IS a notch above Rene! She is directly and negatively impacting care givers who have been professionally trained to be present with the patient clinically and personally. With Aurora and now with that unnamed woman she is openly sabotaging the therapeutic patient-caregiver relationship. That no one is on to her is maddening!
Diana, thank you for being a voice of patience and caring, focused attention to the recapper's retelling. I know you consistently bring that to every Patio you are on, yet I feel how genuine and personally directed these comments are to my efforts! I appreciate you very much, Amiga!
Oh LILA, I'm so sorry....but glad that you whipped out this recap fast rather than letting it seep into your thoughts and dreams all night (although it probably did anyway). Once again, I chose to go walking out under the stars and the night sky rather than letting myself be drawn in to an artificial, blue light world of moral darkness last night, but we must have been connected, because even after that long walk it was not until after midnight that I could get to sleep. I hate ultimos capitulos because the writers really pile on the nasty. I watched a little bit of it this morning, but even then had to stop. Just. Too. Awful. So you have all my sympathy.
The actress playing Mireya is doing an excellent job. Her smirks and her sneakiness almost bother me more than René huffing and puffing. Sending you good thoughts and good vibes(((((()))))) as you go through your day. IT'S JUST A STORY, JUST A STORY!
Dear Lila, I just don't know how you do these fantastic lilacaps day after day. And now the plotlines have become so dark, but I guess It Is better to focus on fictional darkness rather than real darkness.
Mir is getting worse and worse. We know why social climbing , power and money hungry Rene and wifey are doing what they are doing, but what's in it for Mir. Does she really think that Rene is going to drop Connie and marry her ? Mir is in the shadows pulling strings to cause trouble . What does she hope to gain ?
We knew that the situation between David and Art was eventually going to explode, and Mir just made that happen . How will her part in this all be revealed? Only Rene and Con know that she is involved with Rene, i think.
I cannot stand to look at smirking Ana. Ugh
JudyB!!! Darlin', this is SO BEAUTIFUL! I need to frame it above my computer and even now, I'm re-reading it and inhaling the beauty and truth of the sentiment!
Once again, I chose to go walking out under the stars and the night sky rather than letting myself be drawn in to an artificial, blue light world of moral darkness last night. . .
You are a wise woman taking that rejuvenating walk! AAAAAHHHHH!
Yes, Judy, I'm sure it's going to be even worse the rest of this week so you all may get self-defensive quickie recaps until Regina comes to her senses and stops blaming and shaming my David for being who he is!
Miryea IS a real stomach-churner! Thanks for the good vibes, Hon! I feel them, YES: IT'S JUST A STORY, JUST A STORY!
When you recap, if you get the kisses, you will also get the clashes!
......and that good club has become a prop symbolizing Rene's shameful callousness as he causes havoc in the lives of everybody around him. Nero fiddled as Rome burned , and Rene practiced putting as the Instituto burned .
How many episodes are left of this show , and does anyone know what is replacing it ?
Hey, Susanlynn!! Thanks, Amiga! We have a lot of lothesome smirking going on, don't we! It is hard to take! Yeah, what IS in for Miryea. What a lowdown waste of air she is! I'm glad Rene is taking her and using her, literally and figuratively. When the jig is up and Vega and Associates expose Rene's crimes, she will be implicated beause even if she doesn't break and out him, you can bet he'll sqwauk like a crow and take her down with him!
You nailed it here:
......and that golf club has become a prop symbolizing Rene's shameful callousness as he causes havoc in the lives of everybody around him. Nero fiddled as Rome burned , and Rene practiced putting as the Instituto burned.
Thanks, Susanlynn! Yah, it might help to know how much more we're going to be dragged before the end!
Lila, You are truly a recapping warrior! Thank you for always bringing some rays of sunshine into this dark pit that they keep pulling us into.
So much of this is getting too hard to watch. That very loud fight between two grown professional men was ridiculous. Couldn't the writers think of some other way to worsen the situation in the ER?? And I have to join in with everyone's frustration that no one has a clue that M is undermining everything! Can't wait for her and R to get their anvils.
Again, pobrecita Pamela! Her nightmare is just starting; hope she survives.
Hey, Rgv Chick!!!! Muchisimas gracias! Whoa! It's getting rough, Rgv Chick! I don't know how you and the other stalwart recappers do this show after show! Yikes! It IS a dark pit and, as I said above, I may have to submit a quick down and dirty summaries to protect myself! The baddies are sure having their way. AND, if there's a season two (and NO, Peeps, this is not an invitation to spoilers!) that must mean we're going to be left hanging on to a twig at the edge of a cliff with jagged rocks below!
I want to see Miryea and Rene hit some jagged rocks!!
Yes, poor Pam indeed! What a nightmare for such a chirpy, optimistic soul!
GRACIAS, Rgv Chick!!!!
Thanks, Lila. Yikes! It really hit the fan. I'm so glad you were able to do your recap last night, so you could let go of the horrible mess. Rene and Mireya are way too real-like. Loved your rant that helped me blow off steam: The problem is NOBODY suspects that ho' of being the bottom-dwelling, manipulating, lying skank that she is!
My hope is that at the least Regina and David don't break up over those stupid fisticuffs flying in the ER.
I was aghast that Daniel did not give her his attention and even more so, that he didn’t realize what Clara was struggling to say. And he’s busy doing what? Something I thought was so full of promise seems to have died on the vine before it began.
Diana, perfect. I felt so bad for Clara when Daniel completely turn his attention to Luis.
I have mixed feelings about Pamela. This is for sure a dramatic way to discover her birth mother, but then did she think about how the "mystery daughter" was going to feel when she told "her" that she'd found her birth mother and she needed a piece of her liver right away and, by the way, birth mother is not a good candidate, due to drug/alcohol abuse these last 25 years?
Yes, Mireya is evil, but IMO she’s not the cause of the fight between David and Arturo. This is EXACTLY what Art wanted. He’s been provoking David for weeks and he wasn’t going to stop until David exploded. Even IF David had made a mistake, that wouldn’t have given Art the right to shout in front of everyone that David is an idiot. Who tf does he think he is?! If it had been any doctor other than David, Art would have flashed a smile and said “don’t worry about it.” But nooo, not with David! He had to cause a scene to get everyone’s attention so they could all hear him call David an idiot. This had nothing to do with Mireya, one way or another Art was going to make this happen. Even before David did it, I already wanted to punch Art in the face!
Ok well that was my rant lol. Thanks for the recap Lila!
Lila, you managed to cover everything despite not feeling up to it. Thanks and hang in there.
After Pam told Pilar about Carmen I got the feeling that Pilar suspected that Pam could be Carmen’s daughter. I guess I’m not surprised that Pam got enough information to put the pieces together even if it wasn’t supposed to be much information at all because of confidentiality stuff. And with Tania’s help she will soon get the answer.
When the flu patient (Leonor?) came in, was she worried about contracting COVID? I thought I had heard that the writers were going to include this real life pandemic into the storyline and the show was still airing back in February/March in Mexico.
I think the only way Mireya will truly stop doing Rene’s bidding and stop thinking that they can keep an affair going is if Rene turns on her for any misfortune within the instituto and fires her. The outcome of the David/Arturo situation does not look good. But yeah I agree that what Mireya did was the catalyst.
Glad to see Luis return to work. While he still has things to deal with hopefully he’s good enough to let work distract him for a bit instead of isolating himself in his grief
Hola, Niecie!!!! Welcome and thanks for listening to my ranting! Aye, 'twas a bad night, Niecie, and I fear we haven't seen the worst of it!
You make a splendid point about Pamela! Of course, she didn't think about that! She was doing her Jr. Freud/Pollyanna thing on Carmen, vowing to find her daughter and....uh...OOOOPs! It's me! She's only human. I guess it is a lot to come to terms with. So our little ray of sunshine is having a thunderstorm along with the rest of the crack A-team!
Well, I guess Daniel's ok, but he's such a space cadet about women! Sheesh!
But this IS so true and one of the reasons I felt so sick with anger last night:
Even IF David had made a mistake, that wouldn’t have given Art the right to shout in front of everyone that David is an idiot. Who tf does he think he is?! If it had been any doctor other than David, Art would have flashed a smile and said “don’t worry about it.” But nooo, not with David! He had to cause a scene to get everyone’s attention so they could all hear him call David an idiot.
And did you see how David looked away when Regina called his name and got clocked? He could've mopped the floor with arturito!
I think we're going to be doing some more ranting tonight!
UnsolicitedOpinions is in the HOUSE! Hey, Girl! Well, I say
Thank you so much, TF!!!! Y'all are so sweet! Yes, thanks for brining this out:
After Pam told Pilar about Carmen I got the feeling that Pilar suspected that Pam could be Carmen’s daughter.
That was a powerful scene and the one where, at the second orphanage when the older woman read the details and timing of the infant left at the church, you could see it dawn on Pamela's face that SHE was that baby! TF, these folks are so good, that's how I get wrapped up in these things and end up going coo coo when the writer doesn't follow MY wishes! JAJAJAJAJA!
When the flu patient (Leonor?) came in, was she worried about contracting COVID?
Yes, TF! Thank you! The patient had H1N1 and it was a kind of PSA for vaccinations. The patient didn't believe in them, thought they could be harmful or make you sick and the message was that her Mother is vulnerable to getting it and so should get vaccinated ASAP. It also clarified how antibiotics are for bacteria, NOT for viruses. It's interesting how closely it did fit COVID. I was thinking how strange it was that Rafa was all up in her face as she coughed all over him and didn't seem in the least bit worried. It may not have been COVID but isn't the transmission the same? Anywho. Weird.
TF, it's all I can do to keep a civil tongue talking about Miryea. Chick works my nerves! And yes, good to see Luis back! Rene may keep everybody so angry, he won't have time to be sad!
Yes, I did notice that Art took advantage of the fact that David got distracted to hit him back. There was no reason for Art to do that other than he wanted to. It was not self defense- David was not fighting and Art would have known that David wasn’t going to do anything else now that Regina showed up. Ugh!
I know Rene and Mireya wanted to use this to get rid of Regina but I don’t see how that’s going to happen.. is he going to fire Regina because 2 doctors got into a fight while she wasn’t around? That’s dumb. Besides, if Regina gets fired, I’m 100% sure David would quit on the spot, and probably Arturo too
Yeah, UnOp. You are so right. We'll see how the whole thing is described and the aftermath tonight. Like I said, I may have to post tonight because I'm so silly, I'll be thinking about it and won't sleep well.
Well, in terms of getting to Regina through David and Art fighting, I guess the figure it will be blamed on her and it will be said she's not a good manager? Girl, they lie anyway! We're being too logical!
Hey, Peeps! As always, prayers and positive vibes to us all! Gracias for tuning back in after your Patio Hostess freaked out right before your very eyes last night. We’re all friends here and I thank you all for your support and hearty participation and I hope you felt supported as well! I’m off the ledge now so let’s declare in one voice: WE CAN DO THIS; WE ARE MÉDICOS PATIO STRONG!!! We’ve seen all kinds of blood and gore; tonight we have wounds of the heart which are expected in a novela. Because of my tender heart, though, I will be brief! As usual, feel free to chime in! Vamanos!
The Guests are Aghast! Montesinos, The Guerreros, The Zavalas, Rene and Connie are all shocked and taken aback! Andres asks Cinthia is okay and does she want to keep working in a place like this! They deep pockets all cluck about how shameful and scandalous the whole scene is! Montesinos says very strong measures had better be taken against the two! Regina orders David and Art outside! Rene tells them there are always differences between Doctors. Rene continues the tour, passing by empty waiting rooms and announcing the one visitor per patient policy: they can’t have the Instituto looking like a marketplace! Montesinos and Connie approve. Gonzalo enters the hospital on the way to see Aurora. Montesinos asks what Gonzalo is doing there. He and none of the Patronatos knew she was a patient there; Connie wishes her well. Rene feigns magnanimity; even though Gonzalo made a mistake, he knows the best Doctors are there and there’s no reason to deny him that care. Connie interjects that Rene is helping resolve the situation with Gonzalo, declares he’s a saint and kisses him on the cheek.
Regina takes charge. Regina yells louder than Art and David as they fling accusations at each other. David says Art has been just waiting for him to make a mistake with a patient and provoked him to violence. Art said he did no such thing. Cinthia and Marco look on in the background. Using her outside voice, Regina says they are passing through a difficult time because of Rene being the Director…David tries to speak. She cuts him off and says that she has told him a thousand times not to be violent, but apparently it doesn’t matter to him. Art smirks appreciatively. All the while looking at David she says, “You are abusing my confidence, my orders and above all showing a lack of respect for everybody!” Art is looking on with his hands in his pockets. David says a meek, “Perdon,” and accepts responsibility for his part. Still looking at David she says, “I am very disappointed....in both of you!” and reenters the hospital.
Later, Art declines Mireya’s offer to treat his wounds. He’s looking for his patients charts. She gives them to him, having put the papers back where they belong. Art is incensed that the chart does NOT indicate that the patient had a drug allergy. Miryea suggests David set the whole fracas up just to hurt him. Art considers this. Outside Cinthia talks to David about what happened. David says he knows that the patient’s chart had a prescription for the med that would have eventually caused her a deadly allergic reaction. Was he sure? Yes, Art had just come out of the bay with her and it was his handwriting! David maintains he was provoked; Art wanted him to have problems with Regina because he knows David is in love with Regina. Cinthia reasons that he has nothing to gain with his anger. When Art yelled that he didn’t deserve to be with Regina, he just lost it. Cinthia drives this phrase home, “he just lost it” and kindly scolds David that he can’t blame Art then; he should be more intelligent than to fall into these kinds of provocations in the hospital! David asks if Cinthia knows that Art is also in love with Regina. I didn’t catch what she said but she ends with their need to work together and that Regina needs his support.
Regina’s Choice Regina has to report to Rene about the incident. She has to call him down from yelling, asking what is she going to do about it. He refuses to accept that she will put David and Art under some kind of administrative probation. That’s not good enough, Gonzalo isn’t in charge anymore, he demands one of them be fired! She leaves, slamming his pencil cup on his desk. Regina sees Gonzalo in the hospital and discusses it with him, telling him of Rene’s demand. She is very disappointed with both of them but mostly with David; she though he was changing. Gonzalo emphatically declares that people don’t change, at least not in the way we would like. He tells her to be objective, to make a decision based on what’s best for the team. Being totally a work decision, the two of them should understand.
Regina has asked to talk to Regina in the common room. He starts to speak, she asks him to allow her to go first. She says those dreaded words, “We need to talk.” She tells him he cannot continue to work here anymore. She says he has ignored her calls to him to control himself; he defends himself that he was provoked by Art so that he, David, would have problems with her! She seems surprised. David makes an appeal, “You know me!” “No, I don’t know you. I think the love I feel for you is blinding me to reality,” Regina says. That reality is that no matter how much Art provoked David, he should not have been fighting in the Instituto. “I know, I know I did wrong, but I don’t want to separate from you for this. Please, please,” David takes her hands. “David, I think this was a mistake.” “No, no, mi amor , don’t say that to me!” “When I started a relationship with you, I never thought you would do something like this inside the Instituto.”
David says, “What hurts is that you’re blaming everything on me!” Regina says, “No Arturo is under administrative probation.” “Oh, I see, he gets probation and I lose my job! What hurts me is not being able to see you every day. What will this do to our relationship?” Regina shakes her head, her eyes are welling up, her face pained. “If we can’t work together as colleagues, how are we going to be a couple? What I had with you was beautiful, but I don’t think it’s good for either of us. I’m sorry it’s costing you your job, but this will help you.” David expelled a frustrated sigh at the “what we had was beautiful” part. He asks how is this going to help him. “It’s a reality check, maybe to change your way of being.” David protests, “You didn’t believe in me; I know I am imperfect but I have put forth a lot of effort to show you that I could change into somebody better for YOU.” Regina says quietly, “You said you grew up with so much pain, perhaps you cannot change.” This stings David. “Oooooo!” He drops his head, looks away and grimaces and almost breaks down. “I can’t believe you brought up that subject. If you can’t believe in me, then perhaps you are not the love I thought you were. There’s no reason for me to stay. Adios, Regina. and he goes out the door, leaving Regina standing, her arms folded and eyes brimming with tears.
David tears down the highway in his motorcycle, hearing Regina’s painful words echoing in his head. Regina goes to the ladies’ room and cries, asking herself aloud, “why do you have to be this way?” David arrives at a walled in overlook, the city spreads out below. He gets off the bike and walks to the edge of the wall. He is breathing jaggedly with heavy gasps. Tears fill his eyes and his face is strained but we are saved the pain and indignity of seeing his beautiful face contort with sobs. Moments later Regina has composed herself somewhat. She tells Cinthia and Art that David doesn’t work there anymore. Art responds with a lofty “sorry” until he learns that he is on probation. But I didn’t do anything, he whines! Regina puts out her hand in a halting gesture. I don’t care. It doesn’t matter who started it.” She leaves to go see patients; Art and Cinthia exchange glances of quizzical acceptance.
David Aftermath. Ana learns of David’s firing when Regina turns in her daily report to Rene, who is in Ana’s office. Ana is surprised. Regina said she had no option. What happened? Regina says ask Rene. Ana thinks Regina didn’t defend David enough. Regina flatly says she doesn’t owe Ana any explanation and leaves. Rene laughs and tells Ana about the fight and that he told Regina to fire one of them; it was her choice. Later at home David is drinking a beer and ignores a call from Ana. She texts that she heard what happened. He texts that he doesn’t want to talk. At this same moment, Regina is in bed, still crying, holding her phone. She finally tosses it aside and cries aloud, “Why did this have to happen?”
The next morning Ana goes to the ER and demands, with a smirky smile, two Doctors from the ER to go to the OPC. She ignores Regina’s protests that this will leave her alone as the only Attending (Senior Doctor) with the Residents. “You should’ve thought of that before you fired David,” she quips. Regina has to comply, sending Luis and Daniel. Regina is wearing her stress on her sleeves AND her face. Art asks if he can help her. She somewhat impatiently but emphatically, without smiles or thanks, shoos him away.
Cinthia approaches Regina and offers her support as well. Regina says she can handle it; it’s the damned reports! She admits her mood and stress is also because of David. Cinthia asks if she has talked to him; she says no, it’s better this way. Regina says she didn’t have a choice; “He put my job, the patients and the Instituto at risk; we couldn’t go on like this!” She says Regina knows that David has always been impulsive. Yes, she knows, but that’s not her fault! Everything has a limit, and this was over the top! Cinthia sadly agrees, she saw the whole thing. “It’s so hard to leave aside what I felt for him because, even though we were together for a short time, I had very strong feelings for him. I fell in love, Cinthia.” This is our final scene. But wait...there's more!
The Mother and Child Reunion? Pam is giving off heavy vibrations of psychic and emotional pain to both Carmen and Pilar. With Carmen Pam explains her pained expression and glistening eyes as reaction to very difficult times the hospital is going through. She does level with Carmen about the time crunch they are under for finding her Daughter and doing the transplant: The new Director wants to discharge people who can’t pay. Pam assures her she can get an extension, not to worry but concentrate on recuperating. Pam relieves some stress to Tania and tells her she can’t keep up the farce much longer; she’s beginning to think the DNA test was a bad, bad idea! Once home, her Mother, Pilar can see she’s stressed. Pam asks questions about the circumstances surrounding her adoption. Pilar knew one day Pam would want to know these things but is worried. She doesn’t have a lot of information because so much was confidential and all she and Pam’s Dad wanted was to take her in love her and make a good home for her. Pamela apologizes, and says it must be all the talk about adoption with her patient who’s trying to find her Daughter. “You will always be my Mother.” Pilar urges Pam not to let these close involvements with her patients hurt her! She just wants Pam to be well. They hug.
Other stuff. Luz’s Daughter, Caro, and husband Miguel are getting tired of Luz dragging into the house late everyday always with something to complain about it. Caro rudely hobbles off on her crutch, fussing Luz out and then Miguel essentially does the same. Since the accident he feels she’s distant from them both and blames him for the accident. He declares he’s fed up and huffs up the stairs. Paulina continues to try to get her hooks into Luis. Art arrives home and kvetches about what an idiot David is, how he’s innocent and their team is fractured. Sensitivity alert. as a man we saw at the beginning of the story was brought in by his Daughter. His foot was gangrenous and Art wanted to attempt to save it with medicines and some direct treatment. The man’s Daughter believed in herbal treatments and stormed out of the OPC appointment with her limping Papa in tow. Well, he’s back and his foot is putrid and black and has to be removed to save his life. Rene makes Luz accompany him to the patient’s room where he threatens to discharge the man without the life-saving surgery unless he pays the increased amount (the recovery fee) of the hospital bill. The Daughter begs and is given some time to work something out. Rene looks at Luz as if to say, “and that’s how it’s done!”
And we’re done, Amigos! We made it!
Regina has asked to talk to Regina in the common room.
SHOULD BE
Regina has asked to talk to David in the common room.
Great stuff, Lila.
14 episodes to the end of the season. The finale of this season aired in Mexico in the second week of March of this year, so that could be a Covid story entry. When Season 2 finally goes into production I hope that doesn't become bigger then the rest of the story. Living through it is more than enough.
Rene has to fall soon. I'm sick of seeing him twirl his mustache. I'm sure when he does all his dinero will be confiscated and will Constanza have to go to work? I'd love to see that.
It looks like Luz's marriage is falling apart, too.
Regina and David had to have hit the wall soon, but I hope this doesn't end their relationship permanently. That will probably be a season 2 plot-driver.
More tomorrow; I'm wiped.
Good work, Lila!
I’m surprised that Regina made the choice that she did but if it was because David started the fight that’s an understandable reason, I guess. It’s a lose lose situation for her that Rene put that pressure on her. Art and Ana will definitely both see this as an opportunity to make a move.
I’m definitely curious to see how Pamela will handle everything after she gets the swab test results and also to see how Carmen will react. Hopefully the revelation will be a positive thing for Carmen to get sober.
Can’t think of anything else I wanna comment on so I might have more tomorrow.
Muchisimas gracias, Urbanita!!! for commenting, Kid! Get some rest! Thanks for helping us see when we might be released from the torture of the pit.
BUT
I have never watched a two-season novela. Just the fact that there is another season means a lot of things won't be resolved and that makes me apprehensive!
Regina and David had to have hit the wall soon, but I hope this doesn't end their relationship permanently. That will probably be a season 2 plot-driver.
I also hope they don't continue the breakup between Regina and David so long, or allow them to make love to or marry other people so that we get to the point that we don't give a damn. That would be a shame!
Rene has to fall soon. I'm sick of seeing him twirl his mustache.
Amen, Urban! I forgot to tell how he made a call to one of the suppliers he's getting kickbacks from to set up a time to make another transaction. He's pretty bold now that he's "the boss." Since we ain't gonna have any "love" scenes that we want to see (yucky Rene/Connie/Miryea; Paulina and Luis), they could at least let us see Alonso Vega start bustin' a move. Or maybe that's second season action!
Thanks, Urban, hope to see you later today!
Wow, thanks for staying up late on the Patio,TF!!! Oh, TF, I guess I knew it was coming but, darn, I hate it! You are so right about this:
It’s a lose lose situation for her that Rene put that pressure on her. Art and Ana will definitely both see this as an opportunity to make a move.
That is exactly what Rene and his ***t planned, to undermine and destroy the ER team to get rid of Regina because she is a principaled Doctor, like Gonzalo, who puts patients before money. See above what I think about other people coming between our lovers. I know, it's all about the money, string the audience along so you can show them ads but, dangonnit, you can string an audience along with love, too!
[Okay, okay Lila, take a deep breath, it's only a novela!]
TF, the Pamela story is riveting. OMG, poor kid, "caught between two Mothers, feeling like a fool....!" Okay, who heard the Carpenters song!? Yah, uh, anyway, it WILL be positive motivation for Carmen to get sober! You are so right: Remember, the reason for the madness that led Carmen to use drugs was hearing the incessant crying of her baby; the guilt and uncertainty of what happened to the baby she abandoned. And Pam's Parents are so loving, I'm sure they will support Pamela and not be rejecting of Carmen.
Thanks, TF, hope to see ya around later!
Hey, Peeps, especially those at David's table. What do you all think about Regina's choice which pretty much required a break up?
For me, yah, bad form fighting on the job. Yes, I know Art's been yanking David's chain and I still think if he had told Regina in a non-whiney way that Art was doing that, Regina might have looked at the whole incident differently. But, alas, we had to have this happen and "impulsive, hot head David" had to take the blame. So yah, it would have been much better if David had stalked out of the ER or something, but he didn't.
And yes, Rene forced her into a difficult position. Pretty much if she hadn't fired David or Art, she would've gotten fired. Gonzalo is her mentor and friend and I was dismayed to hear him say that people don't change. That pretty much settled it for Regina, that David had to be the one to go. Okay.
But to throw up into his face what he shared about his childhood pain, feeling that he always had to fight to defend himself but that SHE had disarmed him; for the first time in his life he could let his guard down! To throw up that confession that led to a profession of his love for her that he made while they were still in afterglow...that cut David deeply and he couldn't believe she brought up that soul-baring event as the reason they should break up! He nearly cried then but quickly composed himself and got the heck out of there!
David Freaks, Regina made our David cry!!! He had to drive to the city limits and he probably screamed to the top of is lungs! I'm sorry, Regina, I know Ana is getting ready to drag your a$$ all around the Instituto but just like you thought breaking up was good for David, your harassment at the hands of Ana will be good for me!
[Phew! Don't worry, Peeps, I'm okay. Just so you know, this is great fun! I haven't watched the news for several days, having had a relapse a couple of weeks ago. It's all good. Y'all knock this around, about our lovers and other stories in Medicos!]
Lila, your masterful words have continued to propel us through a sea of angst, lies and betrayal. At the heart of these characters, there is much goodness, kindness and strength. Yet, evil machinations have unalterably shattered lives to the point of ruination.
There is nothing to add to your telling of the deliberate, cruel, paperwork manipulation.
"Tears fill his eyes and his face is strained but we are saved the pain and indignity of seeing his beautiful face contort with sobs" was perfect. And yet, no matter how much Art provoked him, David threw the first punch and there is no doubt he is in the wrong.
"Regina is wearing her stress on her sleeve" spoke volumes. And the truth is that Regina could not have done anything differently.
And Pamela..."caught between two Mothers, feeling like a fool...!" (outstanding). TF, I agree there is mMuch to process but I also believe the revelation will be handled with love, forgiveness and understanding.
And Luz is losing her family, ITA Urban. Although her work stress is understandable and her work commendable, she needs to strike a better balance although I feel her daughter is a spoiled brat.
And yet, even more..."Paulina continues to try to get her hooks into Luis" and "Art arrives home and kvetches about what an idiot David is, how he’s innocent and their team is fractured". Sigh. I'm not even going to mention Ana.
The gangrene case was very disturbing. How on earth will the daughter come up with the money?
Someone has to end R and M's reign of terror. How will they be found out and who will do that???
Lila, things are bleak. But the promise of your superb recaps are what keep hope that something good can and will be made out of a story seemingly without hope.
Diana
Hi Lila, I just read your comment.
I feel Regina had no choice but to fire David. She has always had an issue with what she perceives (rightly or wrongly) as his anger issue. I completely agree though that she should never have thrown his confession in his face. Rubbing salt in this newly opened room was wrong.
I fear we are going to have to wait until season 2 for any kind of closure.
Diana
Ah, Diana!! I so look forward to your soaring prose that encapsulates the current arc of our saga so eloquently:
At the heart of these characters, there is much goodness, kindness and strength. Yet, evil machinations have unalterably shattered lives to the point of ruination.
THANK YOU!!
Yes, I hear you. Our David threw the first punch. *sob* Oh, David!
ITA on Caro, I feel her daughter is a spoiled brat. And just what do they do all day? What the hell does Miguel do? I've never heard him mention work. So Luz is bringing home the bacon in a stressful and demanding job and she's supposed to show up at 5:05 p.m., put on pumps and pearls and be June Cleaver? Give me a break!
Thanks for weighing in on Dave and Re. Yah. Painful, and they are going to drag it out!
Diana, thank you, Girl! We can do this and YOU help make it possible!
"rubbing salt in this newly opened room was wrong". Wound. I meant to say wound. Ack. :)
Lila, we don't know what Miguel does do all day - you are absolutely right. I assumed he had a 9-5 simply because there is no reason for him not to work, unless there is a reason that hasn't been shared with us.
I would be a lot more sympathetic if Luz didn't seem to be completely enveloped in her work every waking moment. Sometimes, you just need to cut your days short and greet your family with a smile, plastered on or not. Put work behind you and leave your frustrations there. Focus on your family, the here and now. Caro's daughter is not grateful or supportive. She should be as she has seen her mother in action and knows the stress she is under. For these reasons, this family is heading for a crossroads.
Diana
Diana, you are right! Sometimes, you just need to cut your days short and greet your family with a smile, plastered on or not. Put work behind you and leave your frustrations there. Focus on your family, the here and now.
I like that because it's a middle ground between:
Tired/grumpy/Stressed<-------------------------------------------> June Cleaver
Also, Miguel surely must work. Maybe 9 to 5 or a second or third shift. I don't know how they're going to work this one out. I also thought it was resolved when Caro saw first hand what her Mom did. They all have to find some balance; a way to support EACH OTHER AS PEOPLE, beloved people outside and above the labels of "student", "working Mom", etc. Figuring that kind of stuff out is one of the challenges of life and is a constant theme in this novela!
Lila, brilliant is an understatement for you! Loved the recap, but I loved (and totally agree with) your rant even more. Let me just add that Regina's very loud talk outside the hospital was incredulous. Do they not have offices where they can rake employees over the coals??
BTW, has Regina even thought of turning on her phone recorder when she walks into Nasty's office???
When Luis stops crying and Paulina is not around, he actually has a brian. He suspects something isn't kosher about the Art/David fiasco, but it did seem like he dropped it; let's hope he follows up and investigates.
TF, "I’m definitely curious to see how Pamela will handle everything after she gets the swab test results and also to see how Carmen will react." For now, this is the story line that holds my interest the most.
Diana, "I would be a lot more sympathetic if Luz didn't seem to be completely enveloped in her work every waking moment." ITA with this in addition to the rest of your comment on the topic. Very well stated! BTW, I think Miquel is a "housemom."
Rgv Chick, "Do they not have offices where they can rake employees over the coals??" had me laughing and nodding in agreement. Perfect!!
I also enjoyed your astute remarks about Luis. He has good insight into others issues although sadly, none on himself.
"BTW, I think Miquel is a "housemom." As there has been no hint of a job/career that might very well be true. I could understand it now that Caro is healing from her injuries but before? Perhaps he was home while Caro was little and just never went back.
Diana
Let me just add that Regina's very loud talk outside the hospital was incredulous. Do they not have offices where they can rake employees over the coals??
She said David put her job, the patients, and the Instituto at risk? What the hell did that disgraceful, patronizing yelling match outside the hospital do for any of those things. If Rene had witnessed that he could have fired HER on the spot! Jeezopete! Good point, Rgv!!!
BTW, has Regina even thought of turning on her phone recorder when she walks into Nasty's office???
YES!!! And the same with his under-the-desk girlfriend! How I wish Vegas and Associates have cameras planted around. HIPPA? Hey, if Docs can treat and even operate on family members, what's a few cameras among colleagues?
You go, Girl! Thank you!!!
Sad day at the David table! :(
I didn’t like the fact that Regina fired David without the tiniest bit of effort to find out what really happened. So many witnesses and she didn’t talk to anyone? So she would know Art called him an idiot and said he didn’t deserve Regina (stuff that had nothing to do with work).
I’m really trying to be objective about the situation (what would I have done in Regina’s place?). And ok, I can accept the fact that she fired David, but I can’t understand breaking up with him. Those are 2 separate things. Her argument (if we can’t work together how can we be a couple?) is absurd. If she did think their personal relationship was affecting their work, then this would be a good solution- now they’ll work at different places.. but that doesn’t mean they still can’t be in a relationship! What bothers me the most is that just the night before she had told David that she “loved him a lot”. And she wasn’t convincing when she said it, so I don’t think she really does. Bringing up David’s childhood? What was the point of that? Seemed like she was trying to hurt him on purpose by bringing up the most difficult thing in his life. David was right when he said Regina never believed in him.
Ana’s “you should have thought about that before you fired David” was WONDERFUL! I loved it
I’m already sick and tired of Art playing the victim card, and I know he’s going to continue using it with Regina now that David isn’t around.. ugh
Literally everyone on this show is miserable lol. The only people who had a happy relationship were Luis and Luz, and now those have fallen apart as well. Geez, give us at least one positive thing to look forward to!
Morning/afternoon, peeps! I’m actually on a different time zone than most of you probably are so last night I just decided to come to the site and was pleasantly surprised to find the recap up. So thanks again Lila.
I have to wonder what Ana really feels about Regina firing David given her sarcastic comment. Like I said, I’m sure she’ll make a move but what exactly will that move be? Will it only be on a personal level? Would Rene care if David potentially had a different role within the instituto, perhaps? Ana’s new position could have some influence if she’s smart enough to take advantage of it and stick it to Regina. I can’t really say if I think Regina and David are endgame as a romantic couple. She went through a tough situation with the divorce from Sergio. I was surprised she was already throwing around “amar” with David and then doubted everything after the fight. At this point it’d probably be better if she, David and Art went their own way.
Thanks, Lila. I don't blame Regina for choosing David as the one to fire but, dang, I was hoping she'd see they could still stay together as a couple. I guess it'll take a few episodes to figure that out.
As for Gonzalo saying people don't change, I agree in the sense that some people are naturally hot-tempered and others cooler by nature. David will always be hot-tempered, but he can change to handle it better, like telling Art to meet him in the alley after work hours -- and clobbering the smug doc on their free time, off hospital premises. But seriously, David can channel his hot temper more appropriately. Thank goodness he didn't let his hurt from Regina make him turn to Ana.
Diana, ITA all you said about Luz. Her husband has been patient with her in the past, but now he's fed up. I don't think there's been a single scene where she focused on him, instead she's always on about her job and their daughter. Come to think of it, was the husband at the fancy hospital shindig with her? I don't remember seeing him dressed up. The daughter is just being a typical self-centered teen to me.
Hey, UnOp! I was about to call for you and me to hop in our ride and go get Regina! Yah, David DID throw the first punch but from an outside, loud, public dressing down to zero investigation, yah, our boy couldn't win yesterday. I know part of it was Rene's pressure to take fast and specific action: fire one of them!
And ok, I can accept the fact that she fired David, but I can’t understand breaking up with him David couldn't see it either!
Bringing up David’s childhood? What was the point of that? Seemed like she was trying to hurt him on purpose by bringing up the most difficult thing in his life. David was right when he said Regina never believed in him.
Oh, Girl that was a deep cut! Do the writers want them to not ever get back together?
Literally everyone on this show is miserable lol. The only people who had a happy relationship were Luis and Luz, and now those have fallen apart as well. Geez, give us at least one positive thing to look forward to!
I hear you, UnOp! Cinthia is so tied up with her Parents involvement in the Instituto and the mess that Rene has wrought, I don't think she an Rafa feel the least bit amorous. Not to mention Juanpa's relentlessness!
Hey, TF!! Excellent points about Ana. She may be nasty, but she IS smart and she is going to take BIG TIME advantage of David's availability in everyway possible. Even if she doesn't see a personal inroad, she sure will find a professional one: David is a skilled and experienced trauma surgeon who LOVES his work! You don't just drop a line in Indeed.com and get one of those. Yah. Interesting times ahead!
TF, what you say is heart-breaking, but it's true! Y'all have heard my ranting enough. We're over here crying into our iced tea, beer, wine, whatever at the David table!
Hey, Niecie!! Gracias!!! It feels like a wake, Niecie. I LOVE this!
but he can change to handle it better, like telling Art to meet him in the alley after work hours -- and clobbering the smug doc on their free time, off hospital premises.
Thank goodness he didn't let his hurt from Regina make him turn to Ana.
But it's not over yet, Niecie! WAAAAAAHH!!!
Come to think of it, was the husband at the fancy hospital shindig with her? I don't remember seeing him dressed up.
*GASP* Never thought of that!!
Lorty. What a day!
Dear Lila, thank You for going above and beyond to recap all the doom and gloom that this show has become. Uff . June Cleaver would be proud .
David is a good guy who just cannot catch a break. Rene is the puppet master who loves stirring the pot and handing out Chaos to everyone in his orbit . Ugh . I cannot stand looking at Ana's now constant nasty smirk as she delights in torturing Regina. Geez.
Where is Alonso with all the dirt on what Rene has actually been up To? How will Rene's evil be revealed and his reign of terror finally through to a crashing end?
Hey, Susanlynn!!! Yah, it's pretty dreary lately! Rene, Miryea, Ana, Art...these folk make y stomach turn! You all help make it bearable! I wonder how the actors feel portraying all these negative emotions! Oh, wait, a paycheck makes it bearable! Oh, well!
Where is Alonso with all the dirt on what Rene has actually been up To? How will Rene's evil be revealed and his reign of terror finally through to a crashing end?
Inquiring minds and tired hearts want to know!
Thanks, Hon!
