I intend to do a recap of tonight's episode. However, I have something to attend at 6:00 (I mean REALLY attend, not via ZOOM). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be back by 9:00. I think I will, but if need be, I'll watch the recording my DVR will make, in which case the recap may be somewhat shorter than usual. We'll see.
In the morning, Demir asks Oyku whether she was cold. She replies that she wasn't, that Demir made sure that she wasn't. He tells her she doesn't have to go to school if she doesn't want to. She tells him she thinks she should go.
Oyku tells Demir, "I think I look more like you than like that loca Asu." Demir agrees. Oyku then compares her ear to Demir's and says they're the same. She continues, "you prefer egg yolks to the whites, and so do I. We both like chocolate ice cream. And you furl your brow when you get angry, just as I do." Demir says, "You know why? Because we're too much alike." He then tells her that Mufide is home from the hospital, and they can visit her on the way to school.
We see Ugur caring for his mother. Demir and Oyku arrive. Oyku asks whether she can see his mother. He says yes and she rushes to the bedroom to see her. Once Oyku is out of earshot, Ugur asks Demir what's the matter. They go outside, and Demir asks about the documents submitted when the judge gave him custody of Oyku. He's especially interested in the DNA test. Ugur explains that he was told it would take 20-25 days to get the results of the test, so they submitted a fake test. He asks Demir why he's asking. Demir remembers reading Oyku's diary, and especially the line, "He's not my biological father." He tells Ugur, "I hope we're not overlooking something important."
Demir and Oyku head off to Oyku's school. Oyku remembers Cemal's telling her that Demir lied to her, and that he's not her biological father. Demir gives her money for lunch and reminds her to spend it on healthy food. He urges her to be careful as she goes up the stairs to school. He then turns away, with a fierce, determined look on his face.
Cemal hears a persistent banging on his door. It's Demir, who asks "Who do you think your are?" and punches Cemal in the face. Cemal asks, "Are you afraid she'll learn the truth? What if what I said is true? What if Oyku really isn't your daughter?" "Stay away from my daughter!" Demir yells, punches Cemal a second time in the face, and leaves.
Demir runs, since he's late for work. He starts to change into his work shoes when the boss comes over. Demir tells the boss he knows he's late, but he'll stay until 6 to make up the time. The boss tells him he needn't bother, he's fired. He should go to the Finance Department to pick up his pay. Demir points out that when he comes in late, he stays late. The boss replies that his lateness isn't the only reason he's been fired. "You didn't do the work well. I think you should find another kind of work."
At school, Sevgi asks Oyku the name of the first month of summer. Oyku correctly replies "June." Sevgi is pleased, and asks Oyku to come to the front of the room and put the name of the month on some diagram. Just then, Ugur appears. He claims he has come to work at the charity event. Sevgi informs him that he's interrupting the class. Ugur says he'll come back later. He then says, "Sevgi, I can't stop thinking of you." There's a long pause. "I mean because of the charity event." Ugur leaves, and Viewerville gives a sigh of relief. Sevgi then asks Oyku the names of the summer months. Oyku answers correctly and returns to her seat.
Ugur is sitting at a table at a cafe when Demir appears. Ugur asks why he's here, and Demir tells him he was fired. Ugur replies, "I told you." Ugur senses that Demir is bothered by more than the firing. He pushes Demir to tell him what's bothering him. Demir tells him, "Cemal told Oyku that I've been lying to her, and that I'm not her biological father."
Ugur is outraged. How did Demir find this out? She wrote it in her diary. Demir is worried: "What if it's not a lie? I don't know if it's true. I'm confused. I went to bed with Asu and she was having an affair with Cemal." Ugur replies, "You thought she was going to stop seeing other people just because you spent the night with her?" He tells Demir that he and Oyku are alike in everything. She has your gaze, your attitude. "Demir, Oyku is your daughter. You're very much alike."
Demir is still very worried. "If Oyku asks, I don't know what to tell her. What if I'm not her father? How can I tell her? I can't lie to her if it's true." Ugur asks him what he's thinking about. Demir pauses, and then replies, "The DNA--once we have the results, Asu will stop bothering us." [Hmm...a moment ago, he was worried that Cemal's accusation might be true, and suddenly he's looking at the DNA test as his salvation. He's also losing sight of the fact that in terms of biology, Asu has as strong a claim as he does.]
Cemal is in his apartment, looking out the window. He sees Candan drive up and park. He leaves the apartment building, and Candan spots him and calls to him. She sees that his face is bruised. She asks who did this? He replies, "Demir. He was angry about Asu." Candan says that's not like him. Cemal tells her that she shouldn't be so trusting of Demir, and urges her to take care. He then gets into his car and drives off.
Ugur and Demir are waiting for Oyku after school. Ugur tries to reassure Demir that Oyku is smart, she won't believe what Cemal says. Oyku arrives and is surprised to see Demir. Ugur tells her, "Your father took the week off to be with his princess." Suddenly, Ugur spots Sevgi and leaves to go speak with her. Sevgi tells him she knows what they need for the charity event--a bright sign saying "welcome." I wasn't following this conversation very carefully--the Ugur/Sevgi thread drives me crazy. I think she told Ugur he should get an estimate, and he suggests that he could make some tasty cakes. "I'm good at baking cakes. Many know me as Chef Ugur."
Oyku tells Demir that she has to write an essay about her best friend. Demir assumes she's going to write about Mercan. Suddenly Ugur runs up to them and says he has to bake cakes for the charity event. Oyku suggests buying them. He nixes that idea. And he can't ask his mother, since she's not well.
Oyku arrives home and begins to write her essay. "My best friend is a lot like me. We laugh at the same things and get upset at the same things. We get along very well. My best friend is my father. I love him very much." After writing this, she opens the door to her room hears Ugur and Demir talking. Ugur asks, "When are you going to do it?" "What?" "The paternity exam." Demir asks him to speak more quietly and then says, "tomorrow, early morning." Ugur wants to know what they need for the exam. Demir replies, "a hair of Oyku." Oyku is clearly shaken. I thought she was going to tear up the essay she had just written, but instead, she takes hair from her hairbrush and throws it out the window. She then gets into bed, puts on a hat, and covers herself, so he can't get any hair.
Demir comes into Oyku's room and asks why she's in bed. She tells him she's cold and tired. He becomes alarmed and calls Dr. Ihsan to report his fear that Oyku is getting worse. She went to bed because she was cold and tired. Did she have any pain? asked the doctor. No. Dr. Ihsan says it's probably just a cold. But her immune system is weakening, so she'll feel weak, sleepy, tired, and moody. The doctor reminds Demir that he warned him about this a while ago so he would be ready. He tells him that if anything unusual happens, let him know.
Demir reports to Ugur that the doctor said Oyku probably just had a cold. Ugur is relieved. Demir says he is, too. Ugur tells him "I feel really good to see how you react when it's a matter of your daughter's health. It's obvious you don't need a DNA test. You wouldn't worry about her as you do now if she weren't your own daughter."
Demir tells Oyku he took the week off so that he and she could be together. Oyku replies that she has a test today. She is wearing a pink hoodie, and she has the hood covering her head. Demir asks her to take the hood off. She says no, and claims to be cold. She then tells him, "I want to spend time with Asu today. I want to spend time with her and get to know her, and also to ask her some things." He asks her what's wrong. Nothing. She then goes into the bathroom and takes the hood off her head.
Demir calls Asu. "Oyku wants you to pick her up." Awakened from sleep, Asu can barely process what he's saying, but finally says she'll get her. She hangs up and says, Who would have thought?
Demir takes Oyku to school. She parts from him with just a "see ya." No kiss? he asks. She comes back and puts her cheek next to his, but doesn't kiss him. She then leaves. Clearly, she's upset.
Ugur goes to some cafe and is told "Sunger asked for you. He wants you to give him a call." Ugur is surprised to learn that Sunger is out of prison. He calls him, and they meet at the cafe. Sunger explains that he's putting together a new team and he thought of Ugur and Demir. Ugur replies that he's interested, but he doubts that Demir will be. He has a daughter now and has left the business. Sunger asks him to speak with Demir and let him know soon. There's plenty of work and they need to take advantage of it.
Demir looks carefully at Oyku's pillow, hoping to find some hairs. No luck. Then he comes upon one on his jacket. He remembers hugging Oyku before dropping her off at school. [Could it possibly be Candan's?]
Asu comes to see Cemal. She notices his bruises. Cemal tells her that Demir hit him. "It seems the girl couldn't help it and told him everything. He thought he was teaching me a lesson, but he was doing me a favor. Now I can prove that he came to hit me." Asu announces that she has good news, too. "Oyku wants me to pick her up. This plan is working better than I thought."
Demir goes to a hospital and says he wants to have a DNA paternity test. The receptionist asks whether he has the needed sample. The episode ends before he has a chance to reply.
Thanks so much, Juanita for another fabulous recap. Especially appreciate it since you had a very busy evening. It wasn’t short at all. I always smile when you say your recap might be a short one :)
Yes, we’re in the bad guys winning phase of the TN. It will get worse before it gets better. I think novelera alluded to this in a previous post.
The paternity issue is a real dilemma for Demir. I think he must get the DNA test asap. It probably would be court ordered anyway if the question of paternity is brought up. And there’s the “no lies” promise between him and Oyku. Yes, Asu is the bio mom but so far Demir has been the better (the only) parent. At this point Oyku seems to prefer ignoring it and is actively avoiding getting tested. Let’s hope that Demir is the bio dad. Where is Sezer’s letter and why doesn’t anyone look for Tia Zeynep?
I wonder if there's more than the paternity issue that's making Oyku want to spend time with Asu.
Is this Sunger person in cahoots with Cemal? Will Demir commit a crime because he needs the money?
dondi356
Thanks very much, dondi356, for your perceptive and helpful comments. I confess it had not occurred to me that Cemal might be in cahoots with Sunger, but your suggestion strikes me as all too probable. :-(
And yes, I too think that Oyku may be becoming more open to a relationship with Asu because, though she says she doesn't need a mother, I think she'd really like to have one, and Asu has been saying some of the right things (coached in part by Cemal) to win Oyku over. I do think, though, that the paternity issue is still the main stumbling block in the relationship between Oyku and Demir. If this were a regular Telemundo novela rather than a Turkish novela dubbed into Spanish, I'd wonder whether it would end up that Demir isn't the biological father but is a wonderful father nonetheless. In other words, a PSA for the idea that parenthood is much more than biology. Telemundo seems to like PSAs--e.g., on issues re homosexuality, transgender, etc.
I'm glad you asked "where is Sezer's letter?" I still think/hope that's going to wind up playing an important role.
I do wish they'd begin to say something about últimas semanas. I can't take too many more weeks of the bad guys winning. :-(
Juanita, the original series is 34 episodes, anywhere from 1:45 to 2 + hours for each episode. The show is definitely being edited for the Spanish language broadcast. I did a comparison and our episode #38 is in the middle of Turkish ep #14.
I find Turkish dizis don’t do PSAs in the way we are used to seeing. Some topics are off limits. But I have noticed connections between the Latino and Turkish cultures. Maybe that's why Turkish shows and actors are quite popular in Latin America.
I'll do the recap tonight.
dondi356
Thanks so much, Juanita, for another stellar recap!
Well I have the feeling that Oyku's sudden desire to see Asu is because she plans to ask about her biological father. And, of course, Asu will lie and say it's Cemal.
I found the conversation with Ugur about how Demir might or might not be Oyku's bio dad interesting. For some reason I had it in my head that Demir and Asu had more than a one-night stand. Especially since we saw him throw her out, giving me the impression they were living together. And I also thought Cemal just wanted her and never got a chance. Demir made it sound like the reverse: Cemal was the main squeeze and Demir a fling.
I also wish it were closer to being over. It's well done. And I enjoy each episode, but weeks and weeks of Cemal's successful undermining of Demir is getting on my nerves. And so is Candan's dumb acceptance of everything Cemal says to her.
Candan saw Asu try to push past her and take Oyku. And now she's halfway on Asu's side because of Cemal's lies??
I'm right there with you on tiring of the Ugur/Sevgi courtship.
I'm wondering about the hair Demir brought. Google tells me they need the hair and the follicle for a test. Don't they usually show someone forcefully pulling a hair for DNA testing. If it shed onto Demir's coat, would that work. I'm even wondering if he's going through with it since they left us with a cliffhanger.
dondi356, thanks very much for the information about remaining episodes. I confess that I'm not happy to learn that we're not even half-way there.
navelera, thanks very much for your insightful comments. I think you're probably right about what Oyku wants to ask Asu, and also, alas, about the answer Asu is likely to give her.
I too recall the scene where Demir threw Asu out. I remember that he was very angry at something she had done, and I VAGUELY recall his saying that had he known that, he wouldn't have.... For some reason, I had the impression that what he didn't say but implied is that he wouldn't have slept with her. But on this point I trust neither my memory nor my understanding.
Good point about the need for the hair and the follicle. Perhaps tonight we'll see what happens when Demir submits the hair.
We see Demir walk out of the hospital. Not 100% sure yet if he did the test, but I think he did. He pauses outside the hospital. Candan calls him. Demir is sorry he couldn’t help her, he had things to do She signed her contract for the house and the painters are there. They will clean up and then she can bring her stuff in later. Demir offers his congratulations and asks if he can stop by. Candan asks, don’t you have to work? Demir says , no I have the day off. Ok then, stop by, she says, we have something important to talk about. Demir will be there soon. He hangs up and gives a sigh.
Candan has made tea for the painters and they take a break. Demir arrives. He thinks house looks very nice. Candan owes it all to Mrs. Mufide. Demir says it sounds like you have known her for a long time.
Candan starts off by telling Demir she bumped into Cemal. His face looked really bad. Demir has no verbal answer but his body language looks a little defensive. Candan asks why he did it. He hardly knows Cemal. She wants to know if there is something he hasn’t told her. He pauses and responds, I can’t tell you right now…but he deserved it. What do you mean asks Candan? You almost broke his nose. Demir says, that’s nothing compared to what he did.
Candan doesn’t understand what’s going on. Demir is fidgeting and sighing. Candan accuses him of pushing her away when she is trying to get closer to him. He does things and then stays quiet like this. Demir says to stay calm, he will tell her everything but please give him some time. Dealing with Asu and the custody case is too much for him.
Candan asks him again if there is anything else he hasn’t told her. He tells a whopper that's just two letters long — No. Do you give your word? He digs a deeper hole for himself - you have my word. But it seems his face is telling a different story. He can barely look her in the eye.
School is done for the day and as they leave, Sevgi reminds the kids to make the posters for the charity event. Sevgi wants a word with Oyku. She says she knows her mother is alive. She imagines it must be hard. Do you want to talk about it? Oyku says no and Sevgi says ok. But she will be here if Oyku ever want to talk.
Ugur shows up with the welcome sign for the event. They translate the school name at the top for us. The rest of it translates roughly to "welcome to the year-end charity bazaar". Sevgi is thrilled and thanks Ugur. He tells her he did it himself. (We didn’t see but I doubt that he did it.) She asks how she could repay him. How about a coffee, asks Ugur? We get the startled Sevgi look. I think she’s a little embarrassed that Oyku could be listening in. Uh, we could have a coffee. That should be good enough, Ugur says. Or you could get me a coffee to take home. He would be happy with that, too. But a coffee with you would be better, he says. She’s smiling and giggling like a schoolgirl. She whispers to Ugur so Oyku does not hear, I accept.
Oyku tells Ugur she’s not going home with him or Demir. Asu is picking her up. Didn’t dad tell you?
Asu isn’t happy to see Ugur and Sevgi walking out with Oyku. Sevgi introduces herself to Asu. Svegi wants to talk later. Is something wrong? No, Oyku is a very good student. Sevgi explains that teachers are also like parents when the kids are with them. Perhaps she can share anything regarding Oyku so Sevgi can be helpfu. Yeah, Asu’s not really interested in having a talk and says, let’s go Oyku. Ugur warns Asu to be careful.
dondi356
Demir tells Candan he can stay and help if she wants. Not necessary. She has to get back to the clinic soon. Ok, then. He goes in for a hug, but Candan backs away with her arms crossed. Demir turns and walks away with a sigh.
Ugur calls Demir. He wants to know about Oyku going with Asu. Demir forgot to tell him. Ugur is worried that Asu and Cemal are brainwashing Oyku (he’s on the right track). Demir thinks this might be part of her illness. The doctor warned about changes in behavior. Ugur asks if Demir did the DNA test. Uh-huh, he did. Ugur wants to meet up and talk but Demir wants to be alone for a while.
Asu and Oyku arrive at the apartment. Oyku asks if Cemal is coming. No, he’s not coming. Good, because Oyku doesn’t like hm at all. She doesn’t want to see him again. Asu assures her he won’t show up.
The place looks cleaner than before. Asu says, make yourself at home. What would you like to eat? How about pasta with extra sauce? You will eat this time? Yes. Asu checks the fridge; there’s nothing but beer bottles. The cabinet is bare, too. Asu has to go out shopping for food. She asks Oyku if she would want some chocolate but Oyku says, no thank you. Asu thinks this is weird but stops herself from criticizing Oyku. Ayway, Asu won’t be gone long.
As soon as Asu leaves, Oyku gets up and walks around the apartment. She looks in the fridge and sees the beer. She thinks back to overhearing Ugur call Asu an alcoholic. Oyku takes the beer out and dumps it down the sink.
Asu is back. Oyku is drawing. She asks Asu if she wants help. No. Asu opens the fridge and sees the bottles are gone. Oyku continues her picture while waiting for the reaction. Here it comes — Oyku? Why did you empty the bottles? Oyku glances at Asu and goes right back to her picture. I’m talking to you! Why did you empty the bottles! Because you shouldn’t drink while you are watching me. Who said I would drink? No one, but Oyku doesn’t trust her. Asu makes a fist and twists her mouth in an attempt to keep her temper. She calms down.
Listen Oyku, let’s make an agreement. I’m your mother. We can resolve things if we talk about them. Asu, there’s nothing to talk about. You shouldn’t drink when you are watching me. End of discussion. Asu thinks at the very least Oyku should call her “mom”. Oyku looks at her for a second and goes back to her picture without a word. Frustrated, Asu goes into the kitchen to start dinner.
Ugur is on his coffee date with Sevgi. She thanks him for the sign. It was his pleasure. And he has some ideas to make the event even better. He thinks they should offer a wider variety of products. Meatballs or Turkish raviolis. It’s a good idea but she says the parents will bring their own food. Sevgi says there is something else she wants to discuss with him. It looks serious. Really? says Ugur in hopeful anticipation. He is listening with all his heart. Here is the startled Sevgi look again. Uh...he means he’s all ears. Sevgi says, it’s about Oyku’s mom. That witch? Ugur says, she was supposedly dead. Everything was fine until she showed up.
Asu is making the pasta. Her phone rings. It’s Demir. Put Oyku on. Where your manners, she says. He’s not in the mood. Put Oyku on. Oyku takes the phone. She doesn’t sound like her usual happy self with Demir. Demir asks her, how are you? Are you in pain? Did you eat? Asu is making pasta. Asu notices that Oyku uses her name instead of calling her mom. Demir reminds Oyku to take her meds. And I love you so much. I love you too, dad. Demir will call in the morning. Good night. Demir goes back to soring out his bills. Things don’t look good.
dondi356
Back to Ugur’s coffee date. He tells Sevgi that Demir and Oyku are made for each other. Sevgi hopes everything works out and says to let her know if there is anything she can do. Ugur says Sevgi is so nice. She’s like a white orchid so pure and full of love. (Ay, Ugur) Anyway, he continues, not everyone can be a good parent. Asu is a devil. His mom, on the other hand, is a sweet and kind lady. He’d like Sevgi to meet her. Startled look again. Ugur realizes he’s blabbering. Sevgi smiles. She kind of thinks he is, too.
Time to eat the pasta. Asu serves. Oyku eats. Let me know if you like it, says Asu. Oyku smiles, it’s good, it’s delicious. This is the first meal I have cooked for you. You probably won’t even remember what it tasted like, says Asu.
Asu wants to talk. She asks Oyku about school and her friends. Is there anyone you like? Asu recognizes that look on Oyku's face. So there is someone? What’s his name? Oyku is reluctant. Asu says don’t be shy, this is what mothers and daughters talk about. Asu thinks Sevgi is nice. Yes, she is. And how is Candan? Do you see her often? Does she and your dad know each other well? Oyku doesn’t answer and abruptly changes the subject. Why did you abandon me? You said you didn’t mean to. You said someday I would understand. Tell me now.
Asu explains that things haven’t changed much for her since Oyku was born. She had no one. She was broke and had no place to stay. Oyku’s father wasn’t around either. Asu was very young and scared. Scared that she wouldn’t be able to take care of Oyku. She was terrified that something bad might happen. Oyku asks her, what could have happened? Could a mother hurt her own child?
Asu asks what if we talk about his when you are older? Oyku agrees but says she has another question. No chance to ask her question because Asu gets up to go have a flashback in the kitchen. We see Asu standing on the ledge of the apartment balcony with a crying newborn Oyku in her arms. Wow.
Ugur visits Demir. He says he was with the love of his life. Then he asks Demir why Oyku is with Asu. Demir doesn’t know, but he feels she is started drifting away from him ever since she spoke with Cemal. Ugur says not to worry, this will be resolved as soon as we get the test results. Demir says he’s having trouble with the bills. If he pays one, he can’t pay the other. He can hardly afford food. Do they live without electricity or without water? And Oyku’s meds are almost gone.
Ugur changes the subject. Guess who I bumped into? Sunger! He recently got out of prison. He was looking for us, but I told him we left the biz. He said he also has changed his ways. He only wants to con other criminals. Sunger says he has a lot of work for us. Ugur turned him down but Sunger still wanted me to pass the word to you. Ugur understands if Demir wants no part and he won’t do it either if Demir doesn’t. Demir interrupts, let’s talk to him. Ugur looks pleasantly surprised but he tries to hide it. Ugur says he will set up the meeting for tomorrow.
dondi356
Oyku is stll drawing her poster for the charity event. (It says kardes okulum. I know kardes means brother/sister/sibling and okulum is ‘my school’ Maybe it's an idiom.) Asu wants to know more about the event. She tells Asu that all the parents will bring a food dish to sell. Asu asks if Demir will go. Oyku thinks so, if he doesn’t have work. Asu says she will go too. You? Don’t you want me to go, asks Asu? Definitely not. Asu asks if Oyku is ashamed of the way she dresses. Oyku avoids looking at Asu. Ok then, she will dress better. Oyku still has doubt. Maybe Asu won’t even show up. Asu says she will buy something to bring.
Asu is persistent. It’s in two days? She will definitely be there. She can meet the other mothers. Oyku looks hopeful that this might really happen and lights up. She smiles and goes back to her poster. Asu asks if she can color with Oyku. Oyku happily says yes. They are smiling and bonding. (I want to believe that this is real. Maybe it partially is but we know the endgame.) Later they are snacking on popcorn and watching TV. Oyku falls asleep and Asu carries her to bed and tucks her in.
Asu is in the kitchen again. This time she’s searching for booze. She finds some whiskey and downs the last bit in the bottle. (well, she did hesitate for a second.) Asu can’t sleep; she goes to check on Oyku. Then she puts on her coat and sneaks out. Shortly after, Oyku wakes and gets out of bed. She calls for Asu. But she’s not there. Asu is at the bar. Give me a whiskey and make it quick. Someone is waiting for me. She starts gulping it down.
Oyku is walking around the apartment. She sees Asu’s diary in an open drawer. She remembers Asu telling her that she had one. Oyku picks it up and a picture falls out. It’s the pic of Demir, Asu and Cemal when they were young. I think Oyku recognizes Demir and Asu. But then she looks a little puzzled. Does she recognize Cemal? She begins to flip through the book and opens to a page, with the picture in her other hand.
And we are out.
dondi356
Wow, dondi356, yet another amazing recap. You've captured everything perfectly, and you've also added some information about Turkish. I don't know how to say "Many thanks" in Turkish, so ¡Muchísimas gracias!
I was amused when Asu saw Oyku walking down the steps from the school, accompanied by Sevgi and Ugur. As you note, Asu wasn't happy. I think she said something about Oyku's "bodyguards".
I too noticed Candan move back when Demir moved toward her to hug her as he was leaving. Earlier in the episode, she was worried that he was becoming more distant, but now his equivocal responses and body language when she asked about his hitting Cemal make her pull away.
I have a feeling the DNA test isn't going to resolve things. My guess is that either the hair without the follicle won't be sufficient, or the hair belonged to Candan rather than to Oyku. Indeed, it could even have come from Candan hugging Oyku and then Oyku hugging Demir. I know that Cemal seems to be behind everything evil and to have contacts everywhere, but I don't think he messed with things in this case. Of course, I could me wrong (I so often am!). Anyway, I just think it's too soon for the DNA test to support Demir (unless, of course, his hitting Cemal and perhaps becoming involved in Sunger's shady dealings outweigh the results of a positive DNA test). I do think the suggestion you made earlier about Cemal possibly having contacted Sunger is quite plausible.
I was a bit surprised that Asu left the 8-year-old Oyku alone when she went shopping. She could/should have taken her with her. And she left the sleeping Oyku alone again when she went out to get a drink. She really is an alcoholic. I loved it when Oyku emptied all the beer bottles!
OK, I've had it with the nonsense about Ugur and Sevgi. I'm tempted from now on to just FF>> those parts of my recaps. ¡Ya basta!
Wow, the flashback of Asu standing with the baby on the balcony ledge was very powerful. I wondered whether she was contemplating killing herself and the baby or "only" the baby. I think probably the former.
Thanks for your kind words and your great comments, Juanita.
There are several ways to say thank you very much in Turkish. The one I hear most often is “çok teşekkürler”. Then I’d answer “rica ederim”. Easier to stick with the Spanish, I think.
So far, Demir and Ugur have managed to avoid Cemal’s traps. Cemal’s change over to psychological warfare seems to be working much better for him.
Perhaps the DNA test won’t matter very much after Oyku reads Asu’s diary. My question is will it make Oyku more sympathetic to Asu and blow up her relationship with Demir. Maybe this is where we get more clarification regarding the Demir – Asu – Cemal triangle.
Asu is a danger to herself and to Oyku. No way should she have custody. If Cemal really loves Asu, he should realize she needs professional help. He is so focused on destroying Demir, he doesn’t even consider the damage he is doing to an innocent child. Cemal is soulless.

Juanita and Dondi, thank you so much for your riveting recaps. The detail and conversations help fill in the gaps. And Dondi, thanks for trying to explain "kardes okulum". I tried looking it up and got nowhere.
I don't see why Demir didn't tell Candan what Cemal told Oyku; he doesn't have to give her any other details to show her what an evil person Cemal is..and maybe she'll stay away from Cemal. OTOH, Candan might try to confront Cemal and he may give her details that Demir has kept from her..Ok so nix that idea :-). Anywho, I don't like that Candan is being influenced by Cemal's lies.
That flashback that Asu had really took me for a loop. I thought Asu had given up Oyku right after she gave birth! From the looks of it, Asu was planning to jump with the baby. If she was only going to drop the baby, I don't think she would have stood on the ledge...but I could be wrong.
Sheesh, so what is Demir going to do now that he got fired. I reeeally hope he doesn't agree to work with Sunger. Sunger may be planning to defraud criminals, but that would be even more dangerous is the criminals retaliate. It's difficult to understand how Demir is shown to have no skills whatsoever. He did some mighty fine handy work at Candan's house. And now he fixed the heater!
Dondi, I too want to believe that Oyku and Aus were truly bonding while they were coloring. I'm still not completely convinced that Asu has no feelings toward Oyku. Everytime Cemal tells her to do something or brags about how their plan is going well, Asu gets this look of doubt and possibly regret. Am I hoping for too much?
Juanita, I've had it with the Ugur/Sevgi nonsense too. I have no idea what Sevgi sees in Ugur. This gives "love is blind" a whole new meaning.
Oh, Juanita, I do hope that hair is Oyku's and not Candan's! If it's Candan's, what a mess this will cause!
That diary that Oyku found was very small and thin. I just hope it has enough info in it to help Oyku realize that her mother is a liar.
Asu leaving Oyku alone was unnerving, but it didn't surprise me. Any points gained by her coloring time with Oyku flew out the window. Asu is a very long way from being a nurturing mother...if she can get there at all.
Rgv Chick, I always look forward to your comments. I too regret that Candan continues to be taken in by Cemal's lies. You're right that if Demir just tells her the most evil one, that could open up a can of worms. My preference would be for Demir to open the can himself. If he wants a meaningful relationship with Candan, it can't be based on lies, half-truths, and omissions. He should tell her everything. She may find it very hard to take, but it's better she finds out now than after Oyku has gotten her hopes up even higher.
I too hope that Demir doesn't agree to work for/with Sunger, both because it violates the promise he made to Oyku and thus seriously jeopardizes her trust and respect for him, and because I fear it could land Demir in jail. I'm still afraid that dondi356 may have been right in suspecting that Cemal might have something to do with Sunger's approach to Ugur and Demir.
I'm happy to know that you and I agree about the Ugur/Sevgi thread. And I enjoyed your comment about "love is blind."
As for the hair, my guess is that the sample didn't include the follicle and therefore can't be used in the exam. (Just remember, however, that when I say "my guess is that," what follows often turns out to be wrong :-) )
Thanks, Rgv Chick, for your insightful comments! I agree with you that Sunger’s plan to defraud criminals is an ill-conceived and dangerous one. And I also question why Demir doesn’t start a handyman business.
I understood the balcony ledge scene as mother and child going together. I wonder why Asu decided not to go through with it. It also makes me wonder if Asu would consider suicide again if things don’t work out for her.
Juanita, I agree that it’s better for Demir to come clean and not let Candan find out on her own. He had an opportunity and let it go. I guess I can understand because he doesn’t want to face the prospect of another loss.
Thought about “Kardeş Okulum” a little more. Makes sense to translate Oyku’s poster as “My Sister School”. She told Asu the proceeds of the charity event are supposed to aid a school in need.
