Imperio de Mentiras Lunes 11/23/20, Chapter 42: Poker Hands

Sometimes it's a good thing to sleeve the ace. – Dashiell Hammett

Elisa made Dario an offer he refused. To deal with her and her alone in exchange for revealing his boss, who was getting rich while he was doing the dirty work and taking all the risks. He said he reported to no one. Elisa said well and good, “but the only ones who would end up n prison are you and me.” Something in his face said she had hit home.

Victoria and Eugenio confronted Renata's doctor about her escape, which she insisted put Renata's life in danger. Oscar reminded her that she and Eugenio were also implicated in the abortion and spaying that Renata had never consented to. They would all be in deep shit if any of this were known. Victoria backed off and asked how her escape was possible. He suggested that it was probably a lax in security. He said it would never happen again. Eugenio told him that this was bigger than he thought. She had found out that her husband was dead. Stricter measures were called for. He insisted that she be kept sedated “until this crisis passes.” Victoria agreed with him. They wanted Renata isolated. No visitors.Eugenio ased which other patient escaped. Victoria said that only Renata needed to be locked up. The doctor tried to resist. Eugenio played the Money Card. Oscar folded.

Dario somehow realized he was being played. Elisa told him she wasn't playing games. He was to assure her that no member of her family would pay for her bad decisions. If he failed to do so she would turn herself in and he would also pay the price. She told him to accept this or both of them would end up in prison. His phone rang, so he looked at it. “It's your little sister,” he said. He pressed the Dismiss icon so it went straight to voicemail.

Majo was clutching the bottle. She did not leave a message. She paused, hit the number again, and again declined to leave a message. She took another sip.

Adriana brought the bank records to José Luis. She said that nothing looked suspicious in his or Leslie's. He looked at her with suspicion and asked about Mario. She defended Mario, saying that nothing he had ever done was unprofessional. He seemed to accept it and suggested they go out to dinner. She looked ill at ease. Leslie entered without knocking and said she had to speak with him. He was annoyed and she said she came to talk about her mother. Adriana excused herself and escaped from the office. Leslie then told her father that he had to stop hurting her mother.

Fabricio called Elisa to tell her that papers were served on the galleries. He had been in the process of separating them from the construction company and they needed to talk about this right away because the authorities were going to pay them a visit in the morning. They needed to be in agreement about this. She said there was something she had to do and she would see him after, then ended the call. Fernanda was on the other side of Fabricio's desk and accused Elisa of being irresponsible, saying they should pull the rug out from under her.

Elisa was not prevented from visiting Renata, who was asleep. She sat by her sister's bed, whispering about her getting out and having a happier life. A nurse came in to tell Elisa to allow her sister to sleep. Elisa kissed her sleeping sister and left without a word, only to encounter Mauricio outside. He told her he was being prevented from visiting Renata, probably because they had escaped together. He asked her to take good care of Renata and she promised him she would.

José Luis told Leslie that he had taken her mother out of her workplace because she was being harrassed by a customer. Leslie hadn't been told this. She did not disagree. She did ask why he would not allow her mother to find another job. José Luis insisted that his promotion came with a raise so there was no need for Teresa to work. Leslie defended her mother, saying she needed to do this to feel useful. José Luis made this all about his male pride. Leslie accused him of mistreating her mother. She walked out telling him that if she saw him raising a hand again against her mother she would report him.

Dario reported back to Eugenio. He told him about Elisa's offer and what she demanded in exchange. Eugenio seemed agreeable to this, saying “How stupid she is thinking herself honest; she is the same as her father.” Dario seemed to think that his acceptance may have made him look weak. Eugenio told him to go along with it and he would be watching. Dario reminded him that José Luis asked for more money for more payoffs. Eugenio complied, saying “We need to have the police on our side.” When Dario mentioned Leo, Eugenio said that it was José Luis' job to control him.

As Eugenio was leaving Dario's phone rang. It was Majo and Eugenio told him to do what he had to do. Dario did not answer. It stopped ringing, then started again. He put the phone down on the table, ignoring Majo again.

Majo was lying on the floor of her room, crying. Victoria heard her from outside and got the maid to let her in. They picked Majo off the floor and got her to her feet, then led her out.

José Luis vented to Adriana. After hearing him complain about who was angry and who wasn't talking to him Adriana cleverly told him off. She said that it was likely that he was the one in the wrong.

Teresa returned home after searching for Leslie. She had not found her. She told her mother-in-law that Leslie was no fool, that she knew there was major conflict between her parents. She thanked Sara for defending her. Sara told her that while they had not been the best of friends, she respected her. Teresa thanked her again, but told her that she was going to seek a divorce.

Fernanda asked Fabricio why he got Alfonso from accounting involved. He told her that it was to their benefit that he be involved in this. She reminded him that she had to leave early to look after her mother and Juanito. He told her to hurry up and get things done so she could leave early. She passed Eugenio on the way out of Fabricio's office. Fabricio told him that they were notified of the audit and that there would be a short time to explain any irregularities. He asked for Eugenio's help in pulling strings so they could come out looking clean. Eugenio smiled and said “I'm pleased you asked for my help.”

To humiliate me again?”

No. It shows that you trust me.”

Don't try to sound paternal; this is difficult for me.”

Why? I have nothing to hide.”

And Sonia? How is it that a man as demanding as you are is housing a woman who betrayed you?”

Let's say it's an act of charity.”

Or security?

Do as I tell you. No talking in circles.”

What does Sonia know? Why do you have to be so controlling with her?”

Victoria told the maid to help Majo dress before dinner, then called Clara to demand to know where the hell she was. She insisted that che come over immediately. Clara told her she was not working for her anymore and she needed to find a new babysitter for Majo. Victoria – as usual – asked if this was a demand for more money. Clara said that not everything was about money. “If you are so worried about Maria José, look after her yourself,” she said before ending the call.

Fabricio wanted to know what Sonia was hiding. Eugenio dismissed her distress as pregnancy hormones. Elisa arrived and they immediately changed their tone for her benefit. She told them she had visited Renata but that her sister had been asleep. She asked why they had demanded that Renata be incommunicada and Eugenio told her that this was about increased security in case she made another escape attempt. This was so she would be safe and would get better so she could come back home. Elisa nodded, which Eugenio probably thought meant she believed him. He changed the subject to the audit, saying he would help them. He left.

Elisa was surprised that Fabricio asked for his father's help. Fabricio explained that he knew that Eugenio could get them out of this jam. Elisa told him she was grateful for everything he's done for her.

Mauricio was in the corridor when the night nurse made her rounds. She knew that he had been Renata's escape companion. He tried to engage her in conversation and she evaded it. He took a box out of a shopping bag and offered her a bribe: a tablet computer for her child. He only wanted some information. He would give her cash instead if she preferred. He finally asked about whether she had access to patient records.

Elisa tried to get Majo to think about restarting her life. Going back to her studies so she could have a career and a normal life. Majo answered that it would not be easy. She then told her that she had called Dario multiple times and he didn't answer. Elisa asked why she doesn't look for a psychologist and a few moments later admitted she had asked El Cobra to leave her alone and explained the agreement she made with him. Majo asked why, saying “He loves me!” Elisa tried to explain that extortion and threats are not love and Majo at first accused her of making this all about herself. It finally looked as though she had gotten through to her.

Leo was pressing his clothes for the next day when Sara entered his room to tell him about Teresa's seeking a divorce. She was sad about this, saying that this is not how things were in her time. Leo told her they had to help Teresa. Sara thought that José Luis would see this as familial treason. Leo said that he was thinking this way for some time. Things would get better.

Teresa moved into Leslie's room. They talked about the upcoming separation. Teresa assured her that this had nothing to do with her. She showed affection to Leslie for the first time in years and told her she wanted them to live together.

Carmen's nurse told Fernanda that her mother had had an accident and needed to be bathed. This was why she had not bathed Juanito. She left. Fernanda went into Carmen's room and saw her reading to Juanito. After a few uncomfortable words there was a knock at the door. Fernanda answered an Eugenio walked in without asking permission, saying “I am your boss.” He saw Juanito's toy car on a table and said “I know you're with your son and I know who his father is.”

Fernanda was shocked. Eugenio didn't let up.

Why is he here? Are you using him to blackmail someone?”

Leo spoke to Robles – his boss – about cornering El Cobra. Robles asked if he was sure he knew what he was doing. Leo answered that it was the only way. Robles asked if he realized that the first charges will be against Elisa.

Fernanda tried to talk about work but Eugenio interrupted her and insisted that she evict Carmen and Juanito. While he was right that neither had been of any importance before she started telling him that her mother was terminally ill. He didn't want to hear any of this; he considered Carmen and Juanito be be in the way. She went down the list of all the things he had ordered her to do. She had a sexual relationship with Augusto, she had sent for Fabricio, and she had done all this to take care of her mother and her son. Eugenio demanded that she put her mother in a hospital and her son in a boarding school. “It's for your own good. I don't want Fabricio to know about this. What man would want a woman whose life is so.... ugly?”
He took a sip of his favorite poison and left. Fernanda said nothing out loud. Her face said it all.

Adriana tried to talk some sense into José Luis. He wasn't interested in saving his marriage or even going home. When he looked for the fringe benefits he previously had in Adriana's apartment she made him do the dinner dishes.

Renata woke the next morning in the same position she had been in during Elisa's visit. She got up slowly and didn't stand straight, as though she had no energy. She fell forward onto the floor just as the night nurse entered her room. She helped her up and led her back to bed. Renata didn't want to sleep, she wanted to see Mauricio, but the nurse gave her something to drink and tucked her in. Renata was too weak to resist.

Dario was looking at his computer when his bald, bearded henchman asked if he should look for “the girl.” He brought Majo in and Dario said to leave them alone. She asked if what Elisa said was true. He told her to leave.

Leo accompanied the officials from the district attorney's office and presented the search warrant for the accounting documents, etc. Fabricio was looking at it when Elisa entered the room. Leo explained what this was, saying “This isn't personal. It's an official order. Can we enter?”

Comments:
Based on this episode I think that Eugenio's master plan is to get Fabricio to marry Elisa while he finds ways to eliminate Renata and Majo. Elisa then inherits the family fortune.

He throws away people like used bathroom tissue. Fernanda must realize that her own days are probably numbered.

Thank you, Urban, I enjoyed reading this with my morning coffee.
So now Elisa will have another reason to be upset with Leo - he is investigating the galleries. Will he find something? I doubt it.

I'm watching Adriana closely, but for now, she doesn't seem to be as smitten with JLow as before. Glad to see that Teresa and Leslie had an honest talk, the two of them should pack a bag and leave that house. I'm sure Leo can help them find someplace to live, help Tere find another job.

Surely even someone as dim as Elisa can see that what is happening with Renata is not OK. WIll she try to do something to help her sister? What is Mauricio's plan? Whatever it is, he's becoming my number two hero, after Leo.

I didn't get what Eww was telling Dario to do. Pretend to go along with Elisa's demands? Wouldn't that mean that Dario would have to tell her who is his boss?

Ay, ay, ay, Fabricio! So close and yet so far from the truth. Come on, boy, be a good poodle and start investigating.

Urban, I've been thinking about Eww's endgame since the beginning. We still have no clue about his origin story, what makes him tick (except for pure evilness), but having both Renata and Majo out of the picture, Eliesa married to Flaky Fab and V-Icky in his bed sounds like a good plan. Could Fab turn into his Achilles Heel? If he finds out the truth, I feel that he would go to the police and not cover for his father. Will Eww have the guts to order the death of his own son? Maybe by his other son?? I swear Shakespeare's family dramas seem like a child's story compared to what these writers can come up with.

UA: I hope Majo & Renata don't get whacked.

Adriana: Don't be surprised if Fernanda gets whacked down the road.

Thanks Urban. Master Plan...I think you may be underestimating the unhinged cray cray evil of Ewwwgenio. Would he ever want to share the spoils with even his own son and E-Lies-A? I wonder. Also, does Ewww not see the warning signs in Fab Poodle Boy that he might just not be exactly all in on a scheme like that? Just wondering out loud.

Additionally, I have often wondered, just how dam much money are the Can'tDo girls supposed to have anyway? It does not appear that Eww is exactly broke, buying houses as a mid-week happy. Do the Can'tDos have THAT much money? Or maybe it is the ability to illegally MAKE that much money that he is interested in.

Poor Renata, if she can not be salvaged, I fervently hope she can go out in a blaze of ReNutty glory. NO, not finally telling Vic-ious off and stealing her hairbrush, girls. A real blaze of glory, like escape, regain her health, get in shape, and come back and dismember her Mom with gardening tools right in front of Ewww. Yeah, THAT kind of gory...er...glory. Sharpen up your pencils Steve.

Adriana: "Come on, boy, be a good poodle and start investigating." Poodles just don't have the nose that a good hound or a German Shepherd have.

AND most dogs have fur, but poodles have actual hair instead.

Urban, perfect screen shots and recap. Again.

“She walked out telling him that if she saw him raising a hand again against her mother she would report him”. Sometimes courage emerges from a surprising source. A child, standing up to her brutish father. A child who should be protected, becomes the protector. Who in a heartbreaking scene forgives her mother for her indifference and tells her she loves her nevertheless. There are few here worthy of respect but Leslie is one.

Clara telling Vicky off earns her a place on this short list as well.

I wanted to rage as I watched Renata. How could any human being let alone someone’s mother have committed such atrocities?

Was Eugenio told who helped Renata escape? Adriana Noel, I agree that Mauricio is a huge key and hope he will be Renata’s salvation. He is crazy like a fox.

“When he looked for the fringe benefits he previously had in Adriana's apartment she made him do the dinner dishes”. Excellent. Perhaps Adriana is starting to see that he is a selfish, whining, self centered brute.

So Ewwww plans on doing away with almost all of Vick’s family save Elisa? How can Satan possibly be brought down? I don’t know if Dario can do it on his own. If he Leo and even Fab were to ban together, there might be hope.

I’m all for “A real blaze of glory, like escape, regain her health, get in shape, and come back and dismember her Mom with gardening tools right in front of Ewww” Kirby. We should be so lucky.

I'd say Fer's days are numbered.

Urban, thank you - fantastic.

Diana

Urban, I haven’t seen this yet. Now I will know what I am in for. Thanks!

I don't think Eugenio knows who helped Renata. Elisa knows, of course, so she might be the one to tell him only because she doesn't know that he is the criminal mastermind. Like most good people this level of evil is incomprehensible to her in a virtual relative.

Dario has been told twice to kill Majo, which we know he won't do. What must be building up in his head by now... He may need a rubber room and giggle jacket by the time this is over.

Oscar would lose his license over what he did to Renata, but I'm sure if that happens he would take Victoria and Eugenio down with him. I know it's not a popular opinion here but I truly don't think Renata should have children unless her mental problems can be solved.

I am leaning toward the opinion that Victoria is responsible for that. She must be related to Ursula Santibanez of YNCELH.

Hey something else that we have seen clues about but have by and large ignored as has the show: Mauricio early on was noted to be pretty dam smart, about money I think. Like I've chuckled about before, smart but crazy, or vice versa.

Now we see him bribing the staff or at least trying to. He may have made a lot of money, honestly, before his cray cray landed him where he is now. If so, he might be a real force to be reckoned with on Ren's behalf, as he surely seems to have gotten himself straightened out a lot where he is. She honestly has no one else. Her Mom is her worst enemy, her little sis is a drunken gun toting stalker involved with a criminal, and her other sis is probably going to be in jail before long and is totally worthless anyway.

You could see the wheels in the nurse's head turn as she considered Mauricio's tempting offers. No one is above bribery here, are they? Well, except Leo.

Yes Kirby, Mauricio is all Renata has. Perhaps that will be enough.

Diana

Thank you, Urban! Outstanding recap as always; and you chose such excellent screenshots!

I think that Ewww's master plan is simply to get control of the Can'tDo company and everything that belonged to Augusto, including Vic, not because he loves Vic but because of his jealousy and spite for Augusto. He will step on and get rid of anyone who is in his way. MAYBE Fabricio is the only one whom he might not step on...and that's a big MAYBE!

Adriana, Ewww told Dario to play along with Eliesa, but only to the extent of getting her to do everything needed to get what they wanted--not to tell her who the boss really is. And you're right about Adriana (the cop). I'm not sure that she has ever completely trusted JL and I don't think she has slept with him either. From what we have been shown, Adri seems to have high morals in every sense of the word. But something did throw me off, Adri handed JL the bank records she reviewed and told him that it included her bank account and both of JL's accounts that show deposits of his biweekly pay. JL then asked if she had reviewed Mario's account and Adri confirms that she did, but there was nothing out of the ordinary. Question is, why would JL ask her to review her own bank records? Are the writers trying to fool us again?

Ewww and Vic may not know Mauri by name, but they do know that a patient helped her escape. I'm thinking that Eliesa told them about how Ren was able to leave the hospital and in doing so, probably named Mauri.

Kirby, I don't think the Can'tDo's have as much money as we are made to believe. When Eliesa first looked at the financial records, she had to sell shares to Ewww to avoid bankruptcy...and even then, the accountant later told Fabricio that they are far from being in the clear. Ewww is probably using his own (illicit) money to buy the houses and offer bribes.

I too wonder if Mauricio might have quite a pot of gold stashed away somewhere. Now if only he weren't so cray cray (sigh)...

Diana, "I wanted to rage as I watched Renata." Me too; I had a knot at the pit of my stomach watching her struggle to get out of bed. I too hope Mauricio is her saving grace. And I hope Vic and Ewww rot in hell!

Diana, I was writing while you posted. YEah, the nurse's wheels did seem to be turning, but this is a bribe that will help, not hurt...so all good IMO :-)

I'm just wondering how the nurses can go along with the doctor's orders to keep Ren sedated...do none of them have a heart...or a conscience?

Urban, thank you for your great recap and photos.Amazing.

Thanks also to all the patio commenters. I love to read all the wise, funny, insightful comments as much as the recaps. The patio is a wonderful forum for us to gather to chew over all the storylines unfolding in our tv screens.

I am still reading the recap , but I had to comment on Mauricio not being mentioned in the conversation between Eww, Icky, and Oscar . Does Icky know Mauricio was the one who got Renata out ?

Kirby, you are right. Poor Renata has nobody to help her except Mauricio . Let's hope that he will be clever and somehow save her from Ick and Ew.

I agree that young Leslie has become a strong, smart force . It was nice to see that affectionate moment between mother and daughter. We don't love people because they are perfect .

In the end , all that matters in Life is loving and being loved .

Okay...back to the recap. I missed parts while trying to also see The Voice. I'll be back!

Rgv Chick,

"I'm just wondering how the nurses can go along with the doctor's orders to keep Ren sedated...do none of them have a heart...or a conscience?"

Thank you for mentioning that. Heartbreaking and yes, inconceivable.

Do they not see the wounded bird??? And while Renata is being physically and medically abused, her heart remains unscathed and her will strong.

While there can likely never be pure happiness for Renata, I hope she has some sense of safety and peace before this ends.

Diana

Let's see what happens if Mauricio gets his hands on Renata's records and discovers what has been done to her.

They need the good guys to saddle up together and unravel this evil mess.

ANNOUNCEMENT---

No Univision Primetime shows on Thursday--due to Fútbol!!!

Susanlynn, all the villains ('cept Vick) are working together. I wish Leo and Mauricio would meet up/

No Thanksgiving TNs?? ack. Thanks Rgv Chick.

Diana

Chickie, I didn't understand that convo between JL and Adrianaat all. The guy is up to no good, he'll probably try to set up Mario or Adriana for his evil doings down the line. Or Adriana might be key in him being discovered for the corrupt SOB that he is.

I'm pretty sure that Eww is not after the Cantu money, too. He has plenty of those, what he wants is Augusto's life.
I think JL and Oscar are worse actually because they took an oath to protect the weak, and they are giving that up for the money.

RGV Chick, if you're into true crime stories there are many about medical professionals who use their knowledge to kill. Amazon Prime Video has a British series called Nurses Who Kill. There also are doctors known as Angels of Death.

Not for the paranoid or squeamish.

I hope Mauricio has a lawyer to help because if he gets a copy of Renata's file this should lead to an investigation.

Dream Team: Leo, Mauricio, Fab and DARIO.

Support staff Adriana, Mario, Leslie and Clara.

Nuthouse roommates Majo and ReNutty, for a while, to keep them out of the real battle where either one could wig out and fork things up.

Okay..so who can we count on to possibly get the villians ....Leo, Mario, Mauricio, Leslie, maybe Fab , maybe Adriana ( i think her loyalty lies with Leo, not JLow), maybe Clara ,big maybe on Dario if he reins in the snapping snarling intimidation and if he truly loves Mojo.

Kirby..yikes..we were posting comments at the same time.

Love your lists ! But wait, where is Elisa, the protagonista, in all of this ? Oh, yeah, she will stand by her lovely tio, her ride or die.

Thanks, Urban! Eagle-eyed and sharply worded as always. I got to watch the first half before I left for work this afternoon, and I will catch the rest when I get home at 8. Things are getting so interesting now that I don't even FF.

I loved all the weekend comments about possible plot twists...but I fear that we are as usual much more creative than the writers. Let's just say I'll be surprised if they surprise us.

Pull me up a chair at the Mauricio table. I think he'll be the big makeover in this TN.

"But wait, where is Elisa, the protagonista, in all of this ? Oh, yeah, she will stand by her lovely tio, her ride or die."
Back at the Manse running circles in the cavernous living room and squeaking.

One of my favorites from this show. Kinda like an annoying Chihuahua when it hears a car pull into the driveway.

Kirby: I'm hoping both Renata & Majo are among the living once this Telenovela ends.

...a Chihuahua in a low cut blouse wearing an artsy necklace and making a pouty face.

Two more little tidbits before tonight's show. What was wrong with Majo lying on the floor? Drunk aas three skunks? She was not drowning in her own vomit or anything, in that case, turn her face down. She is not going to fall down or out of bed and hurt herself. She's already there. Like the Eagles 'Peaceful Easy feeling' 'you won't let me down, cause I'm already standing on the ground.'.

And one more, I am hopeoing that Ewww etc. did not have time to head Leo and the Calvary off at the pass and they will actually accomplish something more than participation in a (no longer) lover's quarrel.

This isn't a lovers' quarrel. What is about to happen is the consequence of Elisa not telling Leo about what Dario has blackmailed her into doing. Her silence was due to her fearing for her family.

This is compounded by the criminal intelligence of Eugenio and Dario in planning to have Elisa sign incriminating documents.

For Leo to cover this up would make him as corrupt as JL.

A perfect trap.

Always enjoy your recaps Urban. Gracias!
I think/hope that Mauricio will be a key player in bringing down Victoria and Eugenio. By his own admission, he is a genius and he may be particularly savvy with computers. (Wasn’t he offering a tablet to the nurse for her son as a bribe?)
He could hack into the hospital’s computer and discover the hospital’s criminal activities. He could also play the stock market and make investments online. Mauricio may become the true billionaire!

Urban, what a very interesting and
Revealing episode this was. Really
Enjoyed it. I saw the episode but the recap made it even better.

Omg, the web that is being weaved in this hell! What those 2 bitches
Are doing to renata is inhuman. Mau
Is going to rescue her cuz her evil
Mother don't even care anymore. Rug
Could care less. Keepin her drugged on tn gods knows what. Those psych drugs have long lasting effect on a persons body and mind. Me thanks baby girl may know something moma
Been hiding for years. And nobody has been paying attention and it takes a stranger to get the goods on it. Ren needs to be kidnapped &
Taken to a safe place and get dried out so she can think clearly and regain her memory. What better way to keep the secret from coming out,
Keep her doped up.

There are so many bottoms about to drop out in this bottomless bag of twisted Intrigue. That look on fernasty's face was priceless. A women that angry will take. you. out. And the way rug insulted her is the same way she did to somebody in one of The first episodes. And I don't remember Which one it was but she was really nasty. And rug just told her she ain't fit to be around people like him. And rug shouldn't call nobody ugly.

Leo is going after all parties involved in dirt. Hes gonna have to
Hunker down and blow the whole thing up. Alot of shock and more shock is coming. They are really building this up to explode.

Jl is so full of himself, and rug & him drinks from the same swill bowl
They think they are untouchable.
I hope something breaks in this case soon cuz the presure in this show and in reality is a bit much.
One side you can't do much about & the other is pretty near impossible
Oboy what next.

They must have paid dr a boatload of money to get him to keep feeding ren those damdable drugs. She is so
Out of it poor thing.
Come on mauricio she needs a hero.

Thank you Urban, you hit a homerun.

Eugenio is a sociopath, alright, and so are Victoria and Dario. Although I can't wait for her to find out that Dario is Eugenio's spawn.
