Imperio de Mentiras #43, 11/24/20 Saving Your... Assets

Just Dust in the Wind

The nightmare is real.  Leonardo has come to do an audit of the galleries.  A very subdued Elisa requests a tete a tete with him.  Once alone,  Curley Locks, aka CFO Fabricio offers to accompany her but Elisa declines.

Meanwhile, Majo, whose level of self-esteem has plummeted recently to all-time lows is now about to let herself be used to mop Dario's floors.  She knocks at the door and asks if it's true Dario made a bargain with Elisa never to see her again in exchange for keeping away from El's family, and Majo in particular.  He reminds her it was she that left him and not the other way around.  What he felt for her once is now dead and the cadaver about to be buried.  He yells at her that he never lied about who he is and what he does and that she despises him for it.  The two of them are fire and water and he's realized that she's just not the right woman for him.  Besides, he's a businessman at heart; it's all just business to him.  Elisa promised to continue working for him without complaining if he left her alone.  Yep, it just was good business.

Majo in addition to naivete can add gluttony for punishment to her list of alienating personality traits. "--Why couldn't you just change?  You said you'd change?  You'd leave it all for me.  Why couldn't you just leave this business?"  (Oh, that's rich!  Well, if he has to explain that you are too juvenile to waste his breath on, girlfriend.) She simply wasn't a priority.   (Suck it up, buttercup, and please spare us your unending torment and heartache.)  Finally, the mulish mewling Majo, having been hit over the head any number of times with Dario's verbal frying pan, gets moving.  Viewerville feels her peabrain's ability to grasp the meaning of no más is still in doubt.)

Back at Grupo Cantu, El's propensity to impose impossible demands on Mr. Could-Be-Should-Be-Right is just soooo wrong.  "--You realize the woman in front of you is the same one you say you fell in love with, so why do you persist in ruining  me?"  Leo insists this investigation isn't against her as he knows she's not to blame for her father's money-laundering.  But it is the most certain route to finding the killers of her father and Julia.

Blondie is quick to point out to Detective Dagwood that whatever illegalities he uncovers, she as head of the company will be charged and the one to pay the price.  "--I will go to jail."   He says sure he thought about that.  "--And that didn't stop you."  (Talk about your unstoppable force and your immovable object...)  "-- You sacrificed our love all to get at the truth.  And, all that we've experienced, lived through,  is destroyed."  No Blondie means everything to Detective Dagwood still and without her life has no meaning.  He insists he knows her and it is all to protect her.   "--You don't know how to protect me!"   She motions for him to keep his distance and then tells him to continue his work before turning her back on him.

Fern arrives late to the office now with the papers Fabricio needs for the inspection.  She tries explaining she had something come up with Juanito, but Fab doesn't want to hear it.  He cops an attitude: he hired personal nurses and nannies to help with all that just so she wouldn't be late!  (I guess this cheap-ass nursing service doesn't come with subs when somebody skips out.  Not that Fern has the first clue of proper Business Etiquette, i.e., like calling in to give a heads up?)

Fern then decides to take her ire out on Leo.  "--You getting off on your little show of authority here with this investigation?  When are you going to leave my friend alone?"  Leo shoves it right back at her. "--Your friend?  Does Elisa know yet that you were her father's lover?"  Fern basically tells him to stuff it and leaves.

Outside casa de los Velasco, Theresa, and Reynaldo are discussing her abusive hubby situation again.  Terry says that's why she's planning to get a divorce.  He offers to get her hooked up with an attorney.  Terry expects Rey to get a divorce also.   Rey starts stammering..... "--Or don't you want to get a divorce?"  Here's where Rey begins to do the shifty shuffle otherwise known as the Michael Jackson moonwalking two-step.

You Got To Wash That Man Right Outta Your Hair

Back at Cantu and all the do-do, Fern does her damnedest to dissuade El from continuing this sick relationship with Dagwood.  "--Can't you see he's only used you to further his investigation?"  Blondie is stuck on stupid, however, where Dagwood is concerned.

As for Terry, It seems that Rey is actually a kept man and he wants to keep on being kept.  HIs wife inherited a bucket of billetes and he cannot afford to leave home at his age and in his circumstances to just start from scratch again.  Anyway, they have a good time in bed, don't they?  Couldn't that just continue?  "--You men are all alike, aren't you?"

Something To Talk About

Adriana is late getting up and JL has ignored it cuz she "looked so cute lying there in bed."  Adri apologizes and adds she'll be ready to go in 15 minutes.  He says no need since he's got to go home to change anyway.  And if they should walk in together people could start to gossip.  "--Gossip, huh?  You should hear what people are saying about me."  "--Tell me who and I'll fire them myself."  "--No, it has nothing to do with it.  You've got to get used to people gossiping.  It is that they all feel I only got my promotion because of sleeping with you."  "--We both know that's not true and that should be enough.  I'll order them not to.  Now drink your coffee and relax.  Take your time.  There's nothing urgent going on at the station."

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Terry tells Rey she has no intention of being somebody's lover.  "--Thanks for making me feel like a woman.   But this isn't working out as I'd thought." She gets out of Rey's car and calls it quits.   "--You need to learn to respect me."

Meanwhile, Majo has gone to see Clara but Nieves tries lying to her about Clara not being at home.  (Just what is her problem?  ODD or something like I suppose.)  Clara comes out to the front step and tells Mama she is at home.  Nieves sniffs and says, well I thought she was gone..... and leaves.  Majo needs a shoulder to cry on.  She needs to tell Clara what a jerk Darth Dario was to her.  "--I already told you he was a sadistic loser and you would listen to me; so what are you doing here now?"  (She needs a therapist, not a part-time toady for a companion.)  Majo tries explaining that when she was with Dario he was able to make her feel like she was important.  She was "visible"....her two older sisters always managed to take up all the oxygen in the room at home.  So, now she is there to help Leo and Clara send him up the river.

Mario has since shown up at Cantu Corp. and is playing catchup.  El walks by him and Leo and snubs them both.  She walks away with Fab in tow.  Leo sighs that life is topsy turvy for him now.  He cannot stop thinking about El, but it is what it is.  Mario agrees with El that he can't have both.  It may be great as a policeman to make the collar but it stinks in terms of a romantic relationship.

Back at Clara's, Majo begs Clara to return and to be her close companion.  Majo needs her to keep her from continuing to chase after Dario and doing something stupid she's sure to regret.

Meanwhile, Elisa can't help thinking about the good times with Leo; Majo cannot stop drinking; and the personnel at the police station cannot stop gossiping about Adri and how she probably got her promotion to Captain.

I Got To Get Out Of This Place

El is back at the hospital trying to visit her sister but the nurse is trying to prevent her.  She's under lockdown, donchaknow?  Who says?  Dr. Omar of course.  Well, tell him I want to speak to him.  What gives him the right, anyway?  I am family!  This is my sister!  The nurse runs off to get him while El stops to look in on Renata.  She's obviously been drugged because every visit Ren's asleep now.  El manages to wake her for a moment.  It's long enough for Ren to beg her to get her out of there.  El promises her she will or die trying.  Just then she gets a call from Darth Dario telling her they've got a meeting and his men are outside the hospital to take her to it.

As she is leaving, Dr. Omar arrives. "-- Who has authorized you sedating my sister like this???"  Why, Sra. Victoria has.  (As if she couldn't guess....but he's only telling half the truth cuz Unky Ewwy made the decision and the threats, as Viewerville knows.)

Back at the station, Fern has come to speak with JL as his supposed C.I.  She is there to tell him how Leo has to be put on a leash since he's now threatening to inform Elisa that she was her daddy's lover.  JL says what's the big deal?  She was his lover.  Don't worry, he says, he'll put a muzzle on him.  But, insists Fern, just today he brought a Federal Investigation to their doorstep.  Federal auditors were there checking the two galleries' books.  His brother has simply gone too far.

Back at the clinic, Mauricio asks Stella what she found if anything regarding Renata's files.  Stella says she found a report discussing an operation they did on Ren that isn't done at their hospital.  Mo wants a copy of it.  Stella will try.

Back at Cobra Central, El gives Cobra grief about the rush to get her there.  He says there's an important client who wants to do a show there.  She's got to authenticate his stuff.  (I think.)  The client shows up just then and Cobra gives him, Olivario, the royal treatment.  This is going to be an inside job.  The insurance company wants a Mexican to authenticate the pieces which are later to be shown in the U.S. and supposedly sold at which point they'll be stolen; he can collect from the insurance company y tan tan.

About the same time, Fab discusses the implications of this audit with his daddy.  El could go to jail.  He's hoping Eugenio can put a halt to the audit.  Ewwy will be more than delighted to help by calling in a few debts he's owed by those in high places--high enough to call this audit off.

Back at the station, Adri asks JL what Fernanda and he were discussing.  "--Did you know about the audit Leo initiated over at Grupo Cantu?  She admits she doesn't.  (How could she?  She's been too involved with you to give a frikkin' flip about him, dude!)  He asks her to come in and shut the door.  (Ruh-roh.)  He begins by asking her why she persists in covering for Leo.  Adri's ears start shooting out steam.  "--I haven't been covering up for ANYBODY.  If you think I have then do whatever you want."  He tells her to calm down.  He tells her that Fern had agreed to be a CI in exchange for full immunity, but then Leo came waltzing in with his Federal Audit and threatened her with telling El that Fern was her daddy's other woman.  JL orders her to stop him.  Send him somewhere else.  Adri wants to know why doesn't JL tell Leo? He says he doesn't want to hear from or see Leo.  (Do we honestly need to believe that after all these years as a cop she's never learned the first thing about chain of command?)  She tells JL that if she's now "following orders" and he doesn't want to bump into kid brother then forget coming around for dinner and any of those cute little "spur of the moment" sleep-overs.  Her place is now off limits.

At the Cantu manse, Vicki is going nuts from the loud music.  She suspects Majo's back to guzzling bottles of booze again.  She timidly knocks on the door.  Majo pretty much tells her to drop dead.  Vicki uncharacteristically reacts like a limp, wet dishrag.

At the office again, Fern is trying to make nice to Fab but it's not working this time.  Attitude is all she gets.  She says, hey, you know my mother's cancer isn't exactly contagious.  He sneers back at her that she's so rude. (A casual glance in the mirror might be in order here, Curley.)  "--Just what is the relationship between you and my father?"

Across the way, El rushes into the living room demanding to know what reason her mother has for putting Ren on continual sedation?  Victoria says Ren needs round the clock "protection" from herself.  The last time she escaped she threatened suicide, remember.  El says but that isn't living!  Supposedly it's their quality of life versus Renata's and Ren pulled the short straw.

Vicki decides to change the subject for one equally as depressing....."--How goes it a the office?"  El brings Mama up to date date with the audit currently taking place there.  "--But Fabricio has everything under control.  They are not going to find evidence of money laundering are they?"  (Can this woman be that naive at this point?)  El spells it out for her.  "--Daddy made his living laundering money, Ma; if and when they find what they're looking for I will be headed to jail."

Now for El's next challenge, Majo, her sozzled kid sister.  El tries to get sissy to take a shower and hopefully sober up.  Now it's just the two of them against the world.  Cobra has broken it off with Majo.  Leo and she are broken up, too, she tells Majo.

Don't Mess With Mother Nature!

At Adriana's, Leo is full of woe and Adri is all ears.  Just then the front door opens.  JL comes sauntering in.  Adri is trying to avoid another scene.  She complains that he's got no right to just come wandering in as if it's his house!  Calm down, Love.  Leo knows about our affair.  After all, he's been investigating my life.   Right Champ?  Leo answers this isn't the time or place and he's leaving.  JL offers another verbal jab.  "--And don't think of coming back because you're not welcome!"  Adri pipes up just who the heck does JL think he is to speak for her in her home?  "--Don't argue with me in front of my brother, my love!"  Leo says don't worry on his part.   JL says, well, on second thought, now that you're here,  I have got a couple of things I want to tell you.  Like STOP MESSING AROUND WITH MY JOB!   Adri tells JL she never wants to see JL again outside of the office and he and his brother can figure this out somewhere else.

Majo admits to El right before conking out that she's been a fool because of Cobra and she knows it.  El sends off a text to someone asking to meet with her at the house.

Back at Adriana's JL tells Leo to stop interfering with his investigation.  Fernanda is his CI and Leo's threatened her.  Leo asks him how he plans to explain this to his boss if he hasn't gotten the proper authorization?  "--It must be pretty darned important information to have agreed to protect her!"  "--A Fiscalia doesn't need 'authorization' to do whatever he needs!"  "--Well, I have the authorization to investigate both the stolen art and money laundering!"  "--Oh, really?  Does that include investigating me?  You don't want to become an enemy of the Fiscalia, Champ.  It isn't advisable. "  Leo tells JL he simply doesn't recognize him any longer.  JL reminds him again that Leo owes all he is to JL.  "--And one more thing,  if you're still alive, it's solely because of me, Champ."

Nothin' Left To Lose

Across town, Adri has come to the Cantu Manse at El's request.  "--Please don't tell anybody what I'm about to tell you, especially Leonardo."  Adri says she understands and will keep things confidential, but as a cop, she has an obligation...El says she understands.  Then she blurts it out.  "--I must confess to you that all this time I've been working for an organization run by Dario Ramirez, against my will.  Like, what would you do if you had a pistol to your mother's or your sister's head?  Since my sister's kidnapping, he's been seducing her and he and his network of traffickers have been extorting me to launder money and to traffic artwork.  If I don't comply they've threatened to kill my family.  I cannot handle it any longer!  I've made my decision.  I'm assuming responsibility for my actions. "  "--But that is truly risky!"  "--I will inform you of their doings and you will catch them.  And, it doesn't matter if I go to jail for it because when I do they're going in there with me!"

Thank you Jardinera, a fun read of another filler talk talk talk episode.

So now Frog Face Terri finds out that she is after all just a sex toy for Rey! Ha ! Then, do we even want to see what his wife looks like? Yikes.

So Blondie floats it that if he really Luuuuuurved her, he would drop a major investigation because he was banging the owner of the company? Oh yeah, you are looking for a man with values and principles then aren't you Bimbo? Not to mention that he would wind up UNDER the jail eventually for that stupid shit.

Another Wait! moment, didn't Leo float some plan earlier about Majo helping him get Dario? These going in circles are getting boring. If I wanted this shit I could get into politics.

If E-lies-a does nothing, given that she now knows about Vic-ious having Ren drugged 24/7, she deserves more than a fake tear and her trademark pout.

OK, I have officially given up again on Dario. No, for real this time. Done with him. No More. Period. BUT....Mauricio is making some headway. He is smart, crazy, and has money, he might be a real contender.

Oh, and one more thing, Leo is going to have to eventually whip Big Bro's ass. He might as well go ahead and do it and get it over with.

Kirby: Big question is who'll be among the living when all is said & done ?

Jardinera, this was excellent.

Your smart snark was on full display - "Majo in addition to naivete can add gluttony for punishment to her list of alienating personality traits".

Dario's rejection that "the two of them are fire and water" actually seemed to cut Majo to the quick. Why? She's been in utter torment, even threatening to kill him herself. And now, she is vowing vengeance by pledging to bring him down, pulling Clara back into the quicksand. I have no idea what Dario is thinking or feeling at this point. I see the mountain he'd need to climb for any sort of redemption too high and steep to climb.

JL's brain is short circuiting. An emotional, petulant child in a hulking, brutish body. I look forward to his downfall almost as much as Ewww's and Vicky's.

Tere, did you really think what you and Rey had was true love?

Elisa flitting around, trying to "save" her sisters with soft murmurings is growing tiresome. Elisa should have also included her mother's torture of Renata in her admission to Adriana.

Kirby, Mauricio has made more headway in a matter of days than anyone else during the duration of this now slow moving story that seems to be mired in muck.

Jardinera, thank you!

Diana

Steve: Just you and Me probably. :-)

Hello, everybody .

Jardinera, i !ove the title ! I havent read the recap yet, but i am looking forward to savoring your recap with my coffee.

Will Eliesa Do Nothing become Elisa Doolittle ? Did you see what i did there? Sorry..i need some caffeine.

I will be back later .

P.s. Jardinera, , I liked your shoutout to Kansas in your first subheading " Just Dust in tbe Wind. "

Thank you, Jardinera, snarktastic as always!

I'm in a rush, I'll be back later, but SUSANLYNN, I'm totally using Elisa Dolittle tonight in my recap. You are brilliant!

Adriana...Eiesa Doolittle is the result of my cyber partnerhip with my bff Kirby. He provided the brilliant " E-lies-a " , and this morning " Doolittle" popped quite suddenly into my isolated brain. This is why Kirby and i spent so much time in detention hall together in the past.

Jardinera, Still reading the recap, but had to pause to say how much i loved all the song titles used as subheadings.

Hi all. Waiting for the hubster to arrive up here in Tampa for a first in five-year family TG with the nuera y nietos y hijo all back in the US of A. A great TG for me!

Kirby, Adriana, Susanlynn: Must say I've loved the E-lies-a nick as well and even more now with the Dolittle added on.

Susanlynn--I've never been able to do the subtitle trick before but yesterday I must have been channeling my betters here cuz they came so naturally.

Diane/Kirby--Yes, Mauricio is perhaps the only real hero in this whole skitshow.

Steve/Kirby - Don't forget the dog.

Jardinera, what a wonderful read, thank you! It's so nice to see all those little sides that make the gloom and doom palatable. And I have to agree with Susanlynn, the title and subtitles are "lo maximo!"

Kirby, "Mauricio is making some headway. He is smart, crazy, and has money, he might be a real contender." I'm sure he could be quite a contender, but I'm wondering if he has ever had to contend with the likes of Ewww. Mau is treading in dangerous waters.

Diana, I think Dario sees how high and steep that mountain is and has given up that climb. I fear that this will only make him more bitter and more dangerous. AND "Elisa flitting around, trying to "save" her sisters with soft murmurings is growing tiresome." ITA, she needs to put on her big girl pants and actually DO something other than flit around and pout.

Susanlynn, loved "Eliesa Dolittle!" Dolittle is at least a bit better than Do-Nothing. She may need a do-over so that she can get to do-ALOT :-)

Adriana, looking forward to your recap!

OT

Jardinera, I just took a good look at your avatar...LOVE IT!!

Yes Eliesa Dolittle is just perfect And we were never lonely in detention hall. Remember when I used to sneak in Doritos and we almost got in MORE trouble with orange fingers?

Just finished Jardinera's excellent, detailed recap. Wow. Things are happening.

Question, arrogant, lumbering, bully JLout seems to think that he is in a relationship with Adriana. Have they EVER actually moved the sofa or is it all in his big head ? Just thinking back on that past scene at her place with him suddenly climbing on top of her on tbe sofa...ugh....she didnt look any happier about that than i was . Blecchh

Could Dario be breaking it off with Mojo who has lost her mojo to protect her finally ? Well, trying to analyze crazy people is always an exercise in futilty .

Looks like Fern is starting to worry about her place in this evil jigsaw puzzle. So let me get this straight. Does Ew now suspect that Juanito is Fab 's son ( and his grandson) and wants Fern to put him in a boarding school and Her mom back into hospital so that Fab doesn't find out ? Does Eww think that if Fab knows he has a son he will be harder to bend to Ew's evil will?

JLout sats Fern is his CL ???? Wbat is that ?

JLout calling Leo " Champ" used to seem loving and affectionate , but now it is so annoyingly dismissive. Like " you little brat. " ugh

Kirby...yes...we bad .

You have to be about half crazy to figure out crazy people. "Well, trying to analyze crazy people is always an exercise in futility." Think about the psych majors in college. Yeah. So we will prolly just have to wait and see. These people are completely unpredictable, ...except in their complete greed.

That is part of why I am betting on Mau to beat them at their own game(s), because he understands how they think. At least that is what I am hopeoing. He mentioned to Ren about stealing cars and other unsavory behavior before he came to his senses, so he is not pure as the driven snow, that is a big plus. I guarantee he does not think like Leo.

Yeah, Champ is pretty dam condescending for a grown man.

Yes, Mauricio may have that winning combo to deal with evildoers ...crazy+smart+rich . Bingo . Leo is maybe just too good to defeat these unscruplous folks . We might need someone willing to fight dirty like the villains do.

Jardinera, so glad you get to enjoy your family. These are crazy times, we need to take advantage of the good things we have in our lives.

Kirby and Susanlynn, I agree that Mauricio might just have the perfect combination of sneaky/crazy to stand a chance. Leo is the GOOD guy, Eliesa is, you know, doing so little (I'll never get tired of this nickname), Clara is too young and powerless, Adriana might be infested with Jlow cutties and Mario might not make it till the last capitulo (just a hunch, one of the good guys has to die in other for good to prevail, right?)

Diana and Chickie, I've stopped trying to figure out Dario. First, he's bad, then he's probably a bit good, then he's all bad again, but wait, he loves Majo and his mom so he can't be all bad, oh yeah, he is, or is he? I have a headache just thinking about it. I've also lost count of Majo's feelings of the day concerning Dario. She loves him, she loves him not, she loves him but she wants to kill him... Who knows, who cares?

I had totally forgotten that Fer was supposed to be the police CI. This could have been a good thing, except she seems to be reporting to JL. If she ever starts talking for real, it will definitely get her killed.

Jardinera, a great recap, thank you!
I don’t understand why Eliesa tells Adriana the truth, but not Leo! She knows they work closely together!

Thanks, Jardinera. I so enjoyed the recap. FINALLY Elisa is starting to talk. Everything should be up for grabs.

Jardinera, what a fun recap!

So many gems, but my favorite line was: "...the mulish mewling Majo, having been hit over the head any number of times with Dario's verbal frying pan, gets moving. Viewerville feels her peabrain's ability to grasp the meaning of no más is still in doubt." (And I loved her excuse for wanting Dario in jail -- so she couldn't get at him. As if she were wrapping the girl scout cookies in two layers of foil and putting them on the top shelf in the laundry room.

And your point about no one every calling in late was well taken. In fact, those pesky phones only ever seem to be used to get *out* of work. I want one of those jobs where every time you get a personal phone call you can just say, "Me voy para alla" and walk out the door.

And how creepy is it that JL watches Adriana sleep???? Good thing she probably keeps a pistol under the pillow.

Fe: Simple..E-Lies-a can not bring herself to face Leo and admit what a dimwit lying POS she is to his face, so she tells his helper, knowing that she will do the dirty work and spare E-Lies-a the agony of admitting it to his face. Additionally it avoids the possibility that he might just pull out his gun and shoot her.

Adriana: "And how creepy is it that JL watches Adriana sleep????" Jlouse, let us see your hands.

:-)

Oops, Blue Lass, sorry.

I like the new and improved Teresa. Turns out all she needed to become a decent person was a little nookie. Noogie? Sex. I little good sex and she's all better. Unlike Majo who needed to stop and now she's moving on as well. One hopes. This may only last a couple episodes, but has a better chance if they would lock up the liquor cabinet. Or maybe stop having in the house.

Not sure what's made Elisa FINALLY tell on Dario since she may or may not be getting any from Leo, but good. About dang time. He's beyond redemption. But if Fernanda is really a spy, or can pretend she thought she was spying for the good guys when this all falls apart, then she may have a chance. I still wish her well even if she leans bad, especially after that face she made at Eugenio when he told her to get rid of the kid and the mom.

Kelly

Wow Jardinera this was goosebumpy

Kelly, that was an AMAZING face Fer made behind Eugenio's back! I rewound and watched it again. ;}

I'm becoming more and more dissatisfied with this novela. GG took a great cast and what could have been an intriguing story and just f*cked it all up.

It had so much potential.

Where are the great Televisa producers and writers?

How do sad to see Monica Miguel pass on.
