Your Hostess will try to keep her rants to the comment section and just give you the objective fly on the wall retelling.

The ambulance carrying David, 3 EMTs and an injured young lady, Graciela, is T-boned on the passenger side sending the vehicle tumbling over and over banging all the occupants severely, including our David!
At this moment Rene and Gonzalo continue arguing, Gonzalo having gone to Rene’s office upon hearing that Regina was charged with being an accomplice in “Gonzalo’s crimes.” Rene holds forth that Gonzalo and Regina have made millions at the expense of the Instituto! The two go back and forth as Rene mocks Gonzalo’s rage and tells him to get out! Gonzalo furiously warns, “I hope with all my heart that you enjoy this moment because you are going to pay me! I am going to defend Regina with the same vigor that I defend all the patients that don’t have the resources to get the care they deserve!” Rene sniffs, “Don’t you realize that this stupid idealism is what put you in this position?” Gonzalo shoots back, “NO! What is really stupid and infantile is to think that you can play with people’s lives without consequences!” As if to underscore Gonzalo’s assessment, Rene begins to chant, “I won!” over and over.
At the Instituto, Regina is in the common room when Art enters. Regina tells Art about the charges against her but that Gonzalo is enlisting Vega and Associates to also defend her. They are good and Art is sure everything will be all right. Perhaps sensing another love pitch, Regina looks steadily at the coffee she’s stirring and says she’s got to get back to the ER. Marco comes in and asks to speak to Regina. Art leaves. Marco tells Regina he’s going to leave the Residency. Everything that has happened recently has shown him what he really wants to do. Now that he is working more in the OPC, Dr. Paredes has helped him confront the true realities of life; both Dr. Molina and Paredes have inspired him to be a better person. He wants to leave the specialty of plastic surgery to work in the OPC and help people with what they really need and not try to get money out of them. Regina claps and exclaims, “Good, good; I love hearing this! Congratulations for your decision!” Marco thanks Regina for everything she has taught him. “Without you, I would not have achieved any of this.” Regina says the merit for the achievement belongs to him and hopes he will continue at the Instituto. Marco would love to. “Although you are not in my area, it doesn’t matter; count on me for all my support and please know I am very, very proud of you. They shake hands warmly! Later Marco and Lili share a warm moment sitting on a bottom bunk in the call room. He has a duffle bag of stuff for her to keep at her house. “Despite my arrogance and how I treated you, you have always supported me, you’re always here and you honor my confidence.” Lili tells him this rough spot will pass. “Everyone says the residency will change you and in truth, I never could have foreseen all of this would happen to me. Lili, I am going to leave my specialty because I want to do something that will help more people and not only those that are able to pay.” Lili says, “If this is your decision, you have my unconditional support. “ He thanks her again and they gaze fondly at each other.
At the scene of the accident, medical supplies and injured people are strewn everywhere! New EMTs and ambulances have arrived: The EMTs alert the receiving hospitals: there are give people in critical condition! David has been put in a stabilizing collar; his face is bloodied and bruised! The EMTs lift his frighteningly still body onto the flat spinal board! The first patient to arrive to the ER is Graciela. We know her name because David asked at the scene of the hit and run and called her by her name as he encouraged and assisted her. Art directs Cinthia and Daniel to tend to her. Second in is one of the EMTs who has suffered a head injury! Next in is a male with multiple contusions the EMTs announce! Art freezes and stares when he sees it is David and has to be loudly called three times to spring into action to decide which bay and which staff will attend him! “DR. MOLINA, IT’S DR. PAREDES; WHAT DO WE DO!” Art snaps to and directs them to the crash bay, used for the most seriously ill patients. Luis charges in; they have to check to see if there is intracranial bleeding. Down the hall Daniel jumps on the gurney attempting to resuscitate Graciela to no avail. She dies!
In the crash bay it is determined that David has internal bleeding! Regina enters asking, “what do we have….” and then sees and says, “It’s David! It’s David…what happened!” Art tells her but he doesn’t know why David was in an ambulance. “HE HAS INTERNAL BLEEDING AND IF WE DON’T OPERATE NOW, WE WILL LOSE HIM. WE NEED AN OR NOW!!!” Art commands! He tells her to get Rafa and Luis. Now it’s Regina’s turn to stare, temporarily paralyzed. Outside the crash bay Luis asks Lili to prepare the pares for his patient to go to the ICU and he learns that Daniel and Cinthia’s patient died. Regina runs out to the general ER staff area shouting, “We need help now; prepare the OR, David is gravely injured; get Luis and Rafael!” Regina, Art, and Luis attend the surgery; Rafa, of course, is the Anesthesiologist. We see David intubated and sedated, everyone is focused and silent as Art makes the first incision!
In the clean area outside the OR, Gonzalo, Ana, Cinthia, Daniel, Tania, and Pamela are gowned and masked, awaiting news of David. Rene appears, also gowned and masked and questions why they are all there, leaving their areas unstaffed. Ana vigorously defends the vigil and tells Rene this is not the time; David is an important part of the team and nobody is going to rest until he gets out of surgery! They all reproach Rene and tell him he can fire them all and then he WILL be without staff! Rene stomps off. Everyone goes back to waiting and reassure each other with supportive touches as if to release the bad vibes Rene brought! Gonzalo says, “The only thing that matters now is that David is saved.” Gonzalo comforts Ana whose tears and distress are visible above her mask.
It is nighttime. Everyone is still in vigil outside the OR. Cinthia calls her Parents and tells them she needs to meet with both of them to tell them something important about the Director of the Instituto. They agree to meet in the afternoon as tomorrow is the final examination for her Residency. (Cinthia is a Senior, Third year Resident.) Cinthia tells Daniel she’s thinking about accepting Dr. Volero’s offer. She cares about them all but has got to think about her career. “And Rafael,” Daniel asks. “He and I are nothing,” Cinthia answers. Luis and Regina exit the OR. They were able to control the internal bleeding but he remains critical and will go to the ICU. Luis says they did everything they could do, and all they can do now is wait. Ana starts to ask medical questions about indicated interventions…anticoagulants, after such a surgery, blood clotting is a risk! Gonzalo can see she’s whipping herself into a frenzy and puts his hands on her shoulders. “You have to take all the measures,” Ana’s voice begins to crack. “Ana, Regina gently calls, “We already did all of that.” Luis suggests the best everyone can do is get some rest. Daniel says he doesn’t know if they can; Luis says they must try. Luis says calm down; they will keep everybody updated on everything. Regina is stoic; Ana silently cries.
Let’s give ourselves a rest from the tension. This day, Miryea is making cold calls for jobs. She later meets with a woman whom she tells will be better served by a personal care provider for her 89 year old mother, not a professional nurse. Miryea gets a call from Rene and leaves the interview. Luz signs the divorce papers in her office and meets with Caro at home. Mother and Daughter pledge their mutual love and desire to stay in touch despite the divorce. Luz offers to spend more time with Caro who says she understands her Mother’s work and agrees they can spend quality time together when she is off. They hug.
David is now in the ICU, quiet and still; he wears an oxygen mask. His thick dark lashes shield his closed eyes as he sleeps, deeply sedated. Regina goes in and dismisses the nurse. Regina sits at the bedside, takes off her mask, and her eyes fill with tears. Regina grasps David’s hand and then rubs his shoulder. “David, I’m sorry. I did everything I could. Now, David, it’s in your hands and the truth is, I don’t want to lose you. She gently rubs his temple. Art approaches the window of the room and watches Regina. “I love you very much, David. I truly love you very much.” Tears spill from her crystalline brown eyes. We don’t know whether he saw Regina’s face but he understands her posture, tears and the hopeful caress of David’s face. He slips away discreetly. Regina continues, sobbing “I know that you can hear me. You have so much left to do.” She touches his cheek, “Hear me please, I need you to hang on, to be stubborn, to be impulsive, to be foolish (necio?) and rebellious! Stay with me! Stay with me!” Regina looks long and tearfully at David as if to make her tearful pleas enter his wounded flesh and strokes his temple tenderly.
The next morning finds Regina asleep, her head resting on the edge of the bed, lightly against his leg. David is still deeply asleep. Ana enters the room and calls to her, asking how David is. “Regina, you are the treating Physician; you have to be well. At least get some breakfast. I will stay with him.” Regina at David and his monitors before rising; touches Ana on the shoulder, tells her thanks and leaves. Ana then sits at the bedside and removes her mask and addresses David. “Ay, David, why did this happen?” She takes his hand and sobs. “I don’t want to be without you. You’ve always been strong. I’ve never seen you sick and now, to see you like this. . .I know I’m the worst dealing with my feelings, but with you I could be sincere and you always made me feel good! If I let so much time pass before telling you this, it was because I was very afraid, but I can’t keep quiet anymore.” Tears stream down Ana’s face, “I love you. I love you and I know you can be very happy with me. Please, David, please wake up!” Ana’s grief begins to lift as she notes with the slightest gasp that David has moved his head. Ana waits, barely breathing as he more clearly moves his head and struggles to open his eyes. Ana’s grateful smile is bright but short lived as David weakly calls, “Regina? Regina?” Ana asks David to be calm. He asks and she tells him what happened and asks him not to speak. David tries to take off the oxygen masks; Ana asks him to keep it on as she glances at the monitor and replaces the mask, asking him to breathe deeply. “She spent the entire night at your side,” Ana tells David. “I’m going to look for her to tell her you want to talk to her.” Ana gets up and glances at David before she leaves the room, and cries fresh tears.
Regina speaks with Gonzalo outside David’s room. She is very afraid. Gonzalo says David is very young and strong and received the best possible attention. He asks what is it she’s worried about. Regina looks through the glass at David and turns back to Gonzalo. “I’m afraid he will leave…and I worry more that he will leave thinking I didn’t love him.” Gonzalo says David knew “and that’s why he did everything he did to protect you.” Regina says, “If he stays with Ana, that doesn’t matter; I just want him to be well.” “He’ll be okay; he’ll be okay,” Gonzalo says as Ana approaches. “Regina. Go to David. He worke up and he’s waiting for you.” Ana’s face is still as she says this. Regina runs past her into David’s room and Ana’s face dissolves again with tears of painful resignation. “Regina?” David calls. She tells him his blood pressure is good; how does he feel. “I’m in a lot of pain, but not as much as when I lost you.” Even though barely awake, he attempts to lock her into his gaze. Regina replaces the oxygen mask with a nasal cannula to deliver oxygen less intrusively. It takes some doing as Regina is in Doctor mode and keeps encouraging him not to talk, but David is able to tell her that she must get his cell phone and give it to the Lawyers. She says she will. David begins to get a bit agitated; he doesn’t want to be there. No; he must sleep. “I recorded the medical vendors and have everything they did with Rene,” he weakly says. She promises him she will get his cell phone. “Regina. Thank you. Thank you for saving me.” “David, I wasn’t in the ER when you arrived.” For the first time she looks directly into David’s eyes. “The one who saved you was Arturo.” They share a long meaningful gaze. “Regina, I have to thank Arturo.” “You are a part of our team; that’s not necessary.” David begins to get a little agitated again, talking about the trial. She convinces him she will find the cell and not worry about the trial; they will take care of everything. “You just woke up, you have to rest. I will be looking after you. Please rest.” David finally settles down and closes his eyes. “That’s it. That’s it.” She lets go of his hand and looks at David for a long moment before leaving, peace subtly dawning on her face.
This morning Daniel’s Parents see him off for his final examination for his Pediatric Residency. Encouraging and inspiring as usual, they assure Daniel he will do well and everything, the good and bad has prepared him to ace his exam. They also offer him emotional support over the shock of David’s accident. The life lesson there is clear: life is so fragile and we really have no more than the present moment which we must cherish as we never know what will happen next. This leads Daniel later to finally break up with Clara. Tania is later told by an upset Clara and can barely contain a sly smile upon hearing the news. Cinthia and Rafa chat. He let her know David passed the night okay; he doesn’t know much more. He tries to make a dinner date with her that night. She can’t promise; she is going to meet with her parents that afternoon. Cinthia is called away into a bay to attend to a patient. Luis and Susana share sweet nothings over breakfast. She’s feeling a little off but assures him he doesn’t have to stay with her; she’ll see him later and promises to call him if she needs anything.
After leaving David’s room, Regina and Gonzalo meet with Alonso Vega and Ricardo Bustamonte. They are sorry to hear of David’s accident; are assured he will be okay. Regina gives them David’s cell. The recording on it and the evidence of the requisitions and altered bills are clear evidence of fraud. Vega says they need to talk to Miryea; she hasn’t returned Gonzalo’s calls. Regina offers to go with Alonso to talk to her. Rene also wants to talk to Miryea. He spins his lines about her being the only one; he only fired her so Constanza would leave them in peace. He offers her to chance to join with him in an even bigger scheme: Thanks to her, he says, he has to chance to become the Under Secretary of Health. He asks her to think about it; he can make her the chief of the ER or whatever she wants! They can get lots of money and start all over again! . She blows him off. NO ME TOQUES OR I’LL CALL THE POLICE!! He leaves.
Cinthia, in a bright power red dress, and her Parents are at a posh restaurant about to dine al fresco. She has passed her test and Papa congratulates her: Despite everything he has done in his live, he could never have passed an examination like she just did nor accomplished what she just did. She is effusively grateful but they must know and she tells them Rene Castillo has defrauded the Instituto!
Art examines David and declares he is ready to leave the ICU to go to a moderate care floor. Art is bending over attending to something. David calls, “Arturo.” He answers, hmmm. “I want to thank you.” “For?” Art asks, still bending down. “You did excellent work.” Art finally stands, “Man, I was just doing my job. David says, “No, you’re a good Doctor” David say with a nod and firm but humble gaze. Art says, “Gracias; and I know you would do the same for me. Two more days of rest and you’ll be ready.” Art pats David’s shoulder. David looks down a bit and says “Arturo, you saved my life and that’s something I will never forget.” Art looks up, away a bit and then pulls down his mask and smiles.
Okay Peeps. I am not sure I understood this correctly. Here is what Art said: “Tampoco no puedes olvidar que sigo amando a Regina y sé que soy el unico que la puede hacer feliz. WHAT? Did he say "Don’t you forget that I still love Regina and I am they only one that can make her happy?"
This is NOT what I understood at first. Anyway. I was going to post the whole thing but I wanted to give you something to start chewing on, and then finish the rest because this misunderstanding on my part changes how I look at the whole finale. Let’s finish this conversation.
David says to Art, “You have to believe me, that I have no intention to hurt Regina. If you care so much about her and worry so much about her, you can relax.” Art says, “Well, the final decision is hers.” David nods he agrees. Art offers his gloved hand and they shake, telling David to rest. David calls “Dr. Molina,” and points to his head wound and says, “I would have used a different type of suture.” They chuckle and Art leaves.
Lila, I'm totally entranced by your Part 1.
Will wait to comment until the rest is posted.
Marvelous.
Diana
Lila, "necio" can mean foolish, but also, as I'm sure Regina meant in this case, "pig-headed." It's another word for stubborn. "Terco" means stubborn, so when someone's calling you both Tesco and necio, watch out! Lol
You pretty much got Art and David's convo. When David said, "that's something I will never forget," Art said, "Also don't forget that I (still) love Regina and that I'm the only one who can make her happy." Sort of saying, "Yeah, I saved your life, but I'm not about to step aside..."
Lila, you are GOOD!
Okay, Peeps. I advise you all to read every comment; that will make the discussion more coherent and lively. Pardon me if I wrap this next part up more quickly. Please amplify anything you thinks needed more attention.
Andres makes a phone call right from the table and makes an appointment to see (Rene, I think) right away. Getting back to the family celebration, both Andres and Patricia tell Cinthia that whatever is important to her is important to them. Cinthia thanks them. Andres gives Cinthia the greatest gift. “Hija, I wanted you to learn how to operate my businesses; you have the ability to make difficult decisions under pressure and this is something few Directors achieve. But I also understand that you don’t have to follow in my footsteps to be successful. My only heir is you, Hija, and I know you will make the best decisions. Please, forgive me.” They both cry through smiles of joy and relief. The guerra of the Guerreros is over! Afterwards, Andres goes to Rene’s office on crutches and yells at him: He knows of Rene’s fraud with the altered equipment. Rene tries to deny it; Andres dismisses him. “Do you know how many crooks I’ve confronted in my life? I’m telling you now; you DO NOT PLAY WITH MY MONEY!” Rene calls the Undersecretary of Health and tells him about Andres’s accusation but tries to present it as himself being a victim of deceit. Oily Undersecretary (thanks, JudyB) tells Rene the POWER is on their side and after tomorrow, things will be different for both of them. Rene doesn’t seem convinced.
Rene and Alonso Vega go to see Miryea at home and ask her to think about testifying for them about Rene’s fraud. Miryea is informed that they know she got a raise when Rene was appointed and everyone knows they were lovers. Vega says he has made a career out of defending innocent people, keeping them from going to prison and he will do exactly that for Drs. Olmedo and Villasenor. He is giving her a chance not to be implicated in Rene’s crimes. She will think about it. Alonso gives him her business card and leaves.
Luis and Daniel visit David. Luis tells David he gave them quite a scare. David and Luis wish Daniel well on his final exam and inform him that with his first real paycheck as a Pediatrician, he is taking all of THEM out to celebrate. Daniel tells them about Cinthia’s lucrative offer with Dr. Valero and that she might leave the Instituto. Luis says with the trial tomorrow, if Gonzalo and Regina lose; he’s outta there, too! Tania sees Daniel later and tells him she knows he broke up with Clara and tells her why. She thought they were doing fine and assures him one day he will find someone as good as he is. He awkwardly tries to excuse himself. She takes off her hair tie and gives it to him as good luck and to remember that he is the best Pediatrician in the world. He departs after a quick hug.
Gonzalo visits with David who longs to go to the trial. Gonzalo tells him he needs to rest; they’ve got the cell and all the information he shared. There is a strategy Gonzalo says: get Miryea to provide direct evidence of fraud. David says weakly if they should lose and he and Regina don’t return to the Instituto, he is going to leave as well and he’s not the only one thinking that way. Gonzalo rubs his shoulder comfortingly.
It’s the night before the trial. Cinthia is getting ready for bed and is in her cute little nighty when she gets a knock on the door. She calls out asking who it is twice and opens when she doesn’t get an answer. It’s Rafa, his lean frame in a casual posture that belies the tension he may feel. He has pursued Cinthia throughout this whole story and has been put off with saucy smiles while being beckoned by sultry gazes. “Ah, is this what you sleep in?” “Ah, shut up, Rafa!” she laughs. He says she didn’t tell him how the exam went. Oh, it went fabulously. She didn’t tell him because she spent all afternoon with her parents and it has been YEARS since they had such a good time together. He tells her he heard that she is going to work with Dr. Valero. “Listen. I think it’s an important step in your career and it makes sense that if Gonzalo and Regina don’t return, you don’t want to work under Rene’s administration. And I’ve learned something; when you love someone, the only thing you want is that they be happy.” Milagro by Cristian Castro begins to play. Cinthia says, “When you what?” “When you love someone?” Rafa answers. “Yes, what do you mean by that?” “I mean to say that I love you,” Rafa says. Cinthia says, “I’m not going anywhere and it gives me great joy to know that you have this capacity to love.” Rafa says, “You really aren’t going to go?” “No, no I’m not leaving but can I ask you a favor?” Rafa says whatever she wants. She wants him to repeat what he just said. About Dr. Valero? No, that other thing. “I love you?” he says. “Que que?” she asks, “I love you” he responds and she leads him in this verbal foreplay four times before their lips are drawn together as if magnetized and energized by the months and months of mutual longing and they drink each other’s passion in a prolonged kiss. As the door
closes, Cristian sings out. .
Abre tus alas y dejate amar. .dejate amar!
Spread your wings and let yourself be loved!
Still connected by their kiss, he walks her backwards. When they finally break the kiss she says, “Rafa, I love you, too,” and they begin again, not nearly sated. Happily astride Rafa, they remove each other’s shirts and continue kissing. The next morning finds them in the bedroom. The curtainless window wall bathes the bedroom in sunlight. Rafa rolls over onto Cinthia and declares that he never knew it could be so delicious waking up like this with her. She tells him not to get used to it. They challenge each other to have a morning that rivals and surpasses the night and begin sharing loudly-smacking kisses! The two lovers cover themselves with the sheets and we leave them serenaded by the soft tones of Corazon Abierto by Fernanda Castro.
TRIBUNAL SUPERIOR DE JUSTICIA. The trial finally begins. Vega and Bustamonte are with Regina and Gonzalo; Moyes is representing Rene and the office of the Secretary of Health. Art is the first witness and testifies that he did have a patient that did not get chemo because the medicine was missing. Yes, the medicine was found in Aurora’s room, but at no time did he see Gonzalo in possession of the chemo meds. I’m sorry to be brief but Vega makes quick work of proving his case that the placement of medicine in Aurora’s room was a cowardly act of framing by Rene Castillo to disrupt and destroy the Olmedo Administration which disrupted the chain of corruption that Rene was involved in for years. David makes a surprise appearance as a witness, being wheeled in by attendants whom he eventually waves off to painfully wheel himself to the witness stand. David leans uncomfortably to the side and his pain is evident but he speaks with strength considering his discomfort. He describes Rene’s scheme of buying old equipment, having it altered to look new, charging the Instituto full price while altering the bills to cover his having taken the difference. David specifically describes the over one million peso knee navigator that was NOT the latest generation, but altered. A brief replay of the cell phone recording seals that part of the evidence. Miryea also makes a surprise appearance and testifies that she and Rene sold the Instituto’s surgical equipment to other hospitals and whoever wanted it and pocketed the money; this practice went on as far back as the Lara administration. She testified they were lovers and he compelled her to place the chemo medicine in Aurora’s bedside table drawer. Why? To replace Gonzalo as Director of the Instituto! Rene shouts his objections that this is no evidence but the complaints of a disgruntled former employee and bolts from the courtroom! Moyes concedes that the evidence changes the motives of the administrative investigation. Vega’s final statement is that Drs. Olmedo and Villasenor were falsely accused because they disrupted a corrupt system that exploited the needs of the patients for Dr. Castillo’s own personal gain. Vega has proven his case and Gonzalo and Rene are declared innocent!
Perfuse thanks by Regina and Gonzalo to Alonso, Ricardo and even Miryea. David sits next to Art; he still leans and is in obvious pain. He hangs his head. Gonzalo tells Oily Undersecretary he TOLD him he was innocent and that someone very abusive has been heading up the Instituto! Oily gets a phone call and tells them moments later that Montesinos said Andres called him and reported a misuse of money by Rene and that he, Montesinos, is going to sue Rene! Oily is all in a hurry; there’s so much to do now. Gonzalo tells him he needs to put things back in order, pronto! Oily promises to do so, excuses himself and leaves.
Regina finally goes over to where David is sitting next to Art and says, “David. Why did you come?” [I said I would keep my opinions quiet but if you have a recording, pause right after Regina asks this question and see both David AND Art look at her like, “B*%$# , what the fudge are you talking about?”] David looks at Art and says, “My Dr. gave me permission.” Art says, “It was important that they find out the truth.” Regina then turns to Miryea and tells her how brave she was. Gonzalo joins Regina in thanking Miryea and even offers her her old job back. Regina says Miryea did the right thing and she will always be grateful. They shake hands and Miryea leaves. David looks longingly at Regina, unsmiling and in pain.
Let’s get some happy stuff out of the way. Susana is pregnant; she and Luis are thrilled! They are hopeful for the future and know their Angel, Gabriel, is looking down on them, looking after them and sharing their happiness. Daniel passes his Residency final exam and Tania congratulates him and gives him a T-shirt with little kiddie versions of popular Super Heroes. He thanks her with a quick kiss and a te quiero. Tania dives in with a deeper, adult kiss. Daniel tells her he never stopped loving her. Marco and Pamela talk about his leaving the residency and working in the OPC. He tells them he’s going to miss working with them. Both agree they like him a lot better now than they did when they first met him and that everybody feels the same! Marco accepts this good naturedly and tells them he has news about Diego. Marco called him because he wanted to know how he could help Diego’s community. Marco has been collecting money and is going to take it to him at the end of the month. Both Tania and Pam want to go too!
Rene’s anvil! Rene gets home and tells Connie Gonzalo and Regina have been declared innocent and “now they want to blame me.” He blames her extravagant taste and constant mockery of him as mediocre for driving him to seek illegal means to get money. She’s not buying it and puts him out. As he leaves the house, four policemen are waiting for him. In a little levity, Rene tries to distract the Police by calling attention to a non-existent dog! They chase him down and he goes to the slammer. There Rene meets up with El Ciego who says HE is The Director of THIS Institution. El Ciego orders his prison guard lackeys to allow several other prisoner “enforcers” to beat the crap out of Rene and they do. I had to turn away, it was graphic I didn’t even want to see it, even if it was Rene! Prior to his a$$ whipping, he called Constanza who was at a restaurant waiting to be taken to a table reserved by Santiago Montesinos! Connie removed her ring before being taken to her seat.
Gonzalo gets home and teases Aurora and Felipe for a microsecond before telling them he won! They share a group hug and he spins a little made for montage philosophy about how he knew they would win. If anyone is interested, I can translate later, or you may, but during the montage we see Luis and Susana picking out baby shoes; Daniel and Tania with patients, a baby and Mother; they strangely kiss in the patient’s room; Marco happily calling to patients in the OPC. We see Rafa and Cinthia; he with a water shot, she with mescal in a bar, they kiss enthusiastically! El Ciego has been extradited; Pamela continues her residency in the Instituto: she and Tania orient a new group of four Residents and give them the business – look sharp and no off days! We also see Ana and Regina working together, slapping five and bumping fists over some work victory. We see David lift his shirt and remove a square dressing from two tiny, neatly healed scars. Marta is back and the whole gang is there as she takes Rene’s name tag off the door. Art stomps it while Rafa, Regina, Luis and Ana all cheer and Gonzalo invites them into his cleaned and fumigated office! They all clap and then Gonzalo tells them with a laugh to get to work! Gonzalo and Aurora walk in a square and talk about spending quality time together. They kiss!
Now, we don’t know how much time has passed but we are at Regina’s apartment. She is in a sleek little black dress and heels, showing off her wasp waist and firm and shapely derriere. As they walk down the hall she asks him why he has come over.
I had to see you. She tells him he looks very, very good, does he feel well?
Very well, thanks. She asks him to sit down. They sit on her couch.
I feel well, but not as good as you. (no tanto como tu?) She thanks him.
He asks how are things at the Instituto; he imagines she misses him a lot. Things are good and no, frankly she does not miss him: Everything is calm; nobody argues with her; everybody does what she asks them to do. David says it sounds boring. Boring? The Instituto boring, Regina laughs. “How am I going to be bored at the Instituto?” Having had her fun she admits that yes, she misses him; she misses him a lot. Cue “Hilo Rojo”. David takes her hands, “I’m going crazy without you, I miss you, I miss you so much. I need to feel you close to me. Regina, there are so many things I want to talk about with you. I want you to know that day I…” Regina takes his face gently between her hands and kisses him firmly but briefly. She breaks the kiss and tells him, “You don’t have to tell me anything,” and returns to his lips. As their kiss deepens he reaches up and gently clasps her face as well. We fade into the bedroom where Regina and David plumb the depths of long-missed ardor and she showers kisses on him from above. We blush and turn away and in moments it is morning. David awakens in the sun-washed bedroom and finds a note from Regina. Te veo en la hospital. Besos! *Heart* R David smiles.
Regina is at work and we learn that Lili is the new Head Nurse! I’m going to skip Art openly flirting about how beautiful she is and even more so with that smile. He says he’s going to the floors but he doesn’t want to leave her alone in the ER. That’s OK, David is coming back! Oh, Art says he’s sure there are going to be problems! Arturo, she calls! Just kidding; just kidding Art says. “Oh, you don’t change!” Regina laughs. “Buenos dias,” David calls brightly as he enters the ER staff area. David walks directly to Regina. “Buenos Dias,” she answers as he cups her face in his hands and kisses her three times! He asks how did she sleep. Very well, and you? Somehow Art has forgotten that he was supposed to go to the floors. He lurks in the background busy with charts. Better than ever David says with a smile. “I missed you so very much. We’re good, right, no fears?” David looks at Art who keeps busy with the chart rack. “No misunderstandings,” David continues, “I love you very much and I want to be by your side. What do you say?” Regina and David have laced fingers and now Art looks up, also awaiting Regina’s answer. Regina doesn’t answer and suddenly the first emergency of the day arrives, an injured female in a state of shock. Art, Regina and David rush off with the patient to the crash bay and so it goes.
Okay, Urban. Need help with this. Alonso Vega and Gonzalo go to a hospital room. On the way Gonzalo tells Alonso that some man’s vitals are stable and they have been able to go down on the sedation. Alonso and Gonzalo are greeting inside the room by a woman who stands and simply says, “Alonso.” Alonso says, “This is the hour.” And the door closes with. THE END.
Anon When David said, "that's something I will never forget," Art said, "Also don't forget that I (still) love Regina and that I'm the only one who can make her happy." Sort of saying, "Yeah, I saved your life, but I'm not about to step aside..."
DAMN THAT ART!!!! Gracias, Anon! Now I understand the very last scene in the ER! Oh man, me and some of my Peeps gonna have a ranting good time with this!
Y'all enjoy! I ain't had no breakfast OR lunch! See ya later. Make your Hostess (and Amiga) happy and HAVE AT IT!!!!
Lila, writer extraordinaire, another masterpiece.
Far from being merely printed words, your summaries took on a life of their own. Literally works of art, painted with a loving, broad stroke that defined and gloriously captured great empathy, heart, honesty and above all love.
As with your marvelous finale, there was much to rejoin in last night.
“She leads him in this verbal foreplay four times before their lips are drawn together as if magnetized and energized by the months and months of mutual longing and they drink each other’s passion in a prolonged kiss emitted a long, smiling sigh. Lovely Lila. And Rafa was searingly hot last night. Oh my…
Dancing on the edge of their respective slippery slopes, Ana and Art found strength to release what they never had. For the face of true love shone in David and Regina’s eyes. Ana and Art felt and saw that force and graciously yielded to the greatest force on earth. Love.
“I love you very much, David. I truly love you very much.” Tears spill from her crystalline brown eyes. We don’t know whether he saw Regina’s face but he understands her posture, tears and the hopeful caress of David’s face. He slips away discreetly” I am choosing to believe that Art is accepting defeat and will pose no further obstacle to David and Regina. But was Art able to exorcise all his demons in one fell swoop? Time will tell.
“She spent the entire night at your side,” Ana tells David. “I’m going to look for her to tell her you want to talk to her.” Ana gets up and glances at David before she leaves the room, and cries fresh tears”. Indeed she did…Ana’s stepping aside seemed to empty her. And yet, the friendship that she and Regina are forging shows the resilience of the heart. And spirit.
“I’m in a lot of pain, but not as much as when I lost you.” Ouch!
“Ana vigorously defends the vigil and tells Rene this is not the time; David is an important part of the team and nobody is going to rest until he gets out of surgery! They all reproach Rene and tell him he can fire them all and then he WILL be without staff! Rene stomps off. Everyone goes back to waiting and reassure each other with supportive touches as if to release the bad vibes Rene brought!
"The guerra of the Guerreros is over!" And the now joyous family celebrates.
Susana and Luis’ happy ending was nice to see. I took comfort from Marco taking control of his life. His calling Diego was such a positive, endearing step!
I am not a vengeance seeker but Miryea got off far too easily. I had to smile at Connie hiding her ring and going in for the kill for husband number 2.
Rene’s ending was gruesome and he will not be missed.
Lila, you were our fearless leader, our guide, our hope and our inspiration. You tirelessly dedicated yourself, night after night, despite so much going on in your own life. You gave us one of the greatest treasures in life - your time.
Gracias amiaga.
Diana
Thank you, Lila! Excellent work!
Regarding the ending scene: another one of the lawyers at Vega’s firm was the mystery patient. It WAS NOT the previously mentioned lawyer, Manuel, who is also at the instituto. It was actually a female lawyer named Alejandra who was seemingly killed by El Ciego and his henchmen. The woman in the room was her mother. Alejandra was supposed to marry Carlos Ibarra but the wedding was called off because Ibarra got arrested. So eventually Alejandra joined Vega’s firm and fell in love with Ricardo.
Overall I actually liked this ending but am hopeful to see the story continue with a second season.
No surprise that the doctors rallied around David to make sure that he was okay. I couldn’t help but laugh at the joke he made to Arturo about the suture. Arturo certainly was shocked when he recognized David.
A tiny bit of redemption for Mireya so hopefully it was a lesson learned. Rene didn’t care about anyone but himself and it was satisfying to see him get arrested AND beat up by El Ciego. And Connie seemed hopeful for the new chapter in her life haha
I was glad to see Cinthia reconcile with her father and finally get a happy ending with Rafa. Also nice to see Luis and Susana get a second chance to have a family due to her pregnancy. And Marco seemed to finally figure out what he wants in life and be satisfied with it.
Although it was likely difficult Ana made no complaints about not being the one that David chose. She and Regina seemed to have forged a civil work relationship/friendship.
Definitely satisfying to see Gonzalo retake his position at the instituto and get his family back.
I don’t know yet I’ll watch Vencer El Desamor but it has been a pleasure reading your recaps, Lila.
Great work, Lila.
This season ended on a good note. The one thing I haven't quite swallowed was the idea that Ana gave up her pursuit of David. The rest of it worked for me.
Will Cinthia go to the other hospital? If so, will Rafael follow her there?
I wonder whether Lili and Marco will be a couple next season. I have to say that I'm pleased that Marco has become a real human being now that his thinking matches that of his true mentors (Regina, David, Arturo). They taught him well.
It was so satisfying to see that snake Rene get what was coming to him. He lost at least one tooth and this was just the first time.
So, if this goes for a few more seasons will we always start with a new set of 1st year residents?
Saludos Recapper Exraordinaire LILA! You went out with a bang, lady, having two delicious romantic scenes to juice up the re-telling.
But even before all that, I enjoyed this passage:
David is now in the ICU, quiet and still' he wears an oxygen mask. His thick dark lashes shield his closed eyes as he sleeps, deeply sedated.
Yum. Just delicious. So it makes Ana's righteous behavior all the more impressive. She makes sure David knows Regina was with him all night. How often have we seen just the opposite. Lots of character improvement in this story.
And this:
the "guerra" of the Guerreros" is over. The writers DID have fun with names. David PAREDES and Cinthia GUERRERO, and she certainly was a tough one for Rafa. But he wins in the end. And she does too!
. It’s Rafa, his lean frame in a casual posture that belies the tension he may feel. He has pursued Cinthia throughout this whole story and has been put off with saucy smiles while being beckoned by sultry gazes. “Ah, is this what you sleep in?”
and even better:
"...and she leads him in this verbal foreplay four times before their lips are drawn together as if magnetized and energized by months and months of mutual longing."
Okay. He digs her. But part of the charm is that she's a tease. And he's always had women just falling into his arms. But anyway, sweet scene. And I finally noticed that he has a very nice profile.
With Luis and his wife, got a little misty-eyed when she corrected him--"not the three of us, the four of us." Still bothered by the death of their child.
Also have to admit that while I'm a big fan of gratuitous sex, I don't care for gratuitous violence. Hated the scene of René being beaten and kicked. For me, it's enough that he goes to prison. I don't need that. But telenovela writers, and I presume viewers, are into that.
And this was delicious:
Even with the happy romance and court verdict, I have to admit my favorite scene was when Tania and Pam were lining up the newbies for their first day and Tania asks Pam, Shall I be the hard-ass (rudo) or you? They decide it will be Tania. For some reason that cracked me up.
Well, all's right with the world in MEDICOS for the moment. Time to send bushels and bushels of roses and balloons and Mariachi singers to our sweet, incredibly hard-working LILA. Sweetheart, you were above and beyond every day of the week in your recaps. And you made each member of the Patio feel like a fascinating genius in the way you responded to their comments and insights. That is a very rare and precious gift that you have of affirming other people. I am quite sure you bless your family and friends every day. And you bless us, LILA. Thanks for coming back to CarayCaray to gift us with your loving spirit. We thank you and we bless you back.
Dear Lila, thank you soooo much for all your time, effort, and dedication to recapping all these months! It is truly appreciated! No matter how bad the episode, your recaps were always delightful to read!!
Thank you to all the patio as well! I’ve never had this experience of having a group of peeps to discuss TNs with and it has been amazing!
Of course I have comments about this final episode, but haven’t had a chance to write them out., busy day at work, haven’t had time to escape to the patio! Lol. But I did read your recap during lunch, Lila! I’ll be back later after work to spill my opinions- unsolicited or not haha
Lila, above and beyond the beautiful prose with which you gifted the Patio in your recaps, the warmth and enthusiasm of your responses - to every single comment - is what kept folks coming back for more. At times, especially during the frustrating middle episodes, the story became secondary. KUDOS!
Diana Querida! Oh, how nourishing your comments are! Girl, I'm tempted to join a Patio just to hear the kind and personalized observations that you give to everyone!
Diana, was diggin' my Rafa! I'm so happy for him and Cinthia. Now THAT's the Love Story!
I am choosing to believe that Art is accepting defeat and will pose no further obstacle to David and Regina. But was Art able to exorcise all his demons in one fell swoop? Time will tell.
Diana, I get tired thinking about Art grinning in Regina's face and trying to undermine her love for David at every turn! It's really hard to think about!
Now Ana, that was noble. I don't expect her to keep sniffing after David the way Art will with Regina.
Yes, the pregnancy and mention of the Angel, Gabriel, was sweet; Marco is a heart warming turn around and that he remembered his former arch nemisis, Diego, was special! I bet Diego was shocked.
ITA Miryea got off WAY to easily!
Amiga, gracias, de verdad, for your warm thanks and appreciation of my effort. You are more than a gust in the wind beneath my wings!
THANK YOU, TF!!!! So that was yet another Lawyer from Vega's firm? Jeez! Yah, I guess that IS dangerous work they do! OH! It's the Alejandra that Carlos was talking about! So she's been intubated and in a medically-induced coma all this time? Seems they're about to extubate her and see what her capacity is when she awakens from the coma! Lorty!
TF, I'm interested in a second season but I don't like that Regina and Art seem to be playing David. He is so sincere. He loves Regina SO MUCH! She had time to answer him! And at the trial, she never even thanked him for the tremendous effort that she well knows he made to come and add the force of his testimony to help free her! He kept looking at her longingly and in pain and it was as if she never made that tearful plea for his survival just the day before! I'm sorry, y'all aint heard the end of this from me!
Rene got a big anvil. I think Connie was his accomplice but she didn't seem to know he was defrauding the Instituto. I thought it was a hoot that she's already hooking up with Montesinos!
Except for that, it WAS a good ending! TF, thank you for your kind words appreciating my efforts. I intended to just join in the commenting for this novela but the next thing I knew....oh well, JAJAJAJA, it's been a blast. I hope to hang out with you on another PATIO, TF!
Hi, Urbanita! Well, maybe we're supposed to think Ana's just that noble or loves David so much, she wants him to be with Regina because that's what he wants. Regina claimed the same nobility but I don't trust her.
Will Cinthia go to the other hospital? If so, will Rafael follow her there?
If she goes; he will too. Those two are gone over each other. BYE JUANPA!
ITA on Marco and OMG, you saw that Rene had lost a tooth? I know he had it coming, but I couldn't watch or listen. When they got that
emergency in to the ER in the last scene, I thought it was going to be him!
New residents? Yah, real hospitals get a bunch every year and so have an overlapping crew of variously skilled newbies. They're a little tiring! Thanks, Urbanita!
I have to applaud the writers for wrapping up everything so well. I was very satisfied with the gran final.
LO MÁXIMO
-Rafa and Cinthia FINALLY giving in to their love and desires. SQUEEE!!!
-Susana and Luis expecting a baby. So well deserved
-David being wheeled in to the courtroom and testifying. Go, David!
-Nasty R’s look when Mireya walked in to courtroom. Ain’t nothing like a woman scorned!
-Tania and Pamela meeting the new residents. Just loved when Tania asked who was playing “bad cop”
LO BUENO
-Gonzalo and Regina being found innocent. Yay! Justice prevails.
-Nasty R going to prison. He sure deserved it but they could have spared us the beating.
-All the residents passed their exams! Bravo!
-Marco heading the clinic and smiling at Lili. Sweet! Marco contacting Diego and offering to help get funds/supplies for his town.
-Daniel breaking up with Clara (since he really didn’t love her)
-Mireya not accepting Gonzalo’s offer to return to the Instituto. Though I can’t see why he would want her back. I was waiting for Regina to give him “the look”
-David and Regina back together again (meh)…and she actually stopped him from giving her any explanations (though he really didn’t have anything to explain)
LO MALO
-Mireya gets off scott free! ARGHH!
-We never got a follow up on Carmen. (Sigh)
Be back later after I read the comments and think of more stuff.
A BIG virtual bouquet of roses and chocolates to you dear Lila.
JudyB!!!!! Good evening!
I WAS lucky to get two juicy love scenes. I was so happy for Rafa and Cinthia to get together. Each has grown so much from the their individual struggles and sharing much of it together, I think their in it for the long haul.
I'll save kvetching about Dave and Regina for later. ITA as I've mentioned about Rene. That unceccesary beat down kept me from rejoicing about his anvil as much as I would have liked. Everybody else has a happy ending and it was a damned good finale.
Thanks for saving this funny bit which I totally skipped"
my favorite scene was when Tania and Pam were lining up the newbies for their first day and Tania asks Pam, Shall I be the hard-ass (rudo) or you? They decide it will be Tania. For some reason that cracked me up.
Judy, Bless you for your kind, kind words, Amiga! I saved those first words of encouragement you shared with me when I came back to Caray. It's good we can't see the future because if anyone had told me then I would recap a whole novela with important help from my friends, I would've run away screaming! HAHAHAHAHA! But, my friend, your genuine warmth and encouragement helped keep me going! Gracias, de verdad! Oh, and this ain't over! Hope to see you later on in the blog and one day on another Patio!
UnOP!!! Hey, Girl! Thanks for slipping away during your work day to read the old recap! Oh, we got some fussin' to do, Girl! Get something to eat; rest up! Even if we don't get to it until tomorrow, it's on! I'm definitely soliciting your opinions! We got to defend our David!
Thanks, Hon!
Awwwww, ANON!!!!! Bless you! Bless you! Thank you so much! It has been fun and I so appreciate your translations and tweaking my understanding of the Spanish as well as your input on PASL! I sure hope to see you on another Patio and don't hesitate to chime in as I hope we knock this old story around for another couple of days! Gracias!
Thank you, SpanProf!!! Yes, they CAN move the plot, can't they! Darn them though, I'm scared of what they'll do to my David in a second season:
And btw, David's hips are just as incredible as his pecs and abs! :)
OW! Is all I'll say! *WINK*
THANK YOU SO MUCH, SpanProf, for hanging out with us every day!
Rgv Chick!!!! Thank you, thank you, Muchisimas Gracias for welcoming me back in to Caray! Yours is one of the names that I always saw and always marveled at as one of the stalwart team of faithful lovers and recappers of Spanish language novelas! Your thanks means a lot to me!
LOVE YOUR LISTS, Rgv Chick! That is Terrific! MMmmmm, gracias for the flowers and chocolates, Hon! Can't wait to hear more of what you have to share!
Oh, Hellashelle!!!! Thank you, Sweetheart for the flowers and the Oscar! and the ((((((((((Hugs)))))))))) which I return! First, I'd like to thank all the Patio, without whom this honor would not be possible!
Seriously! Y'ALL ROCK!!!!! Hella, please, I hope you come back when you can; I need to talk about David/Art/Regina.
It's been a long day. Y'all get some rest; I know I need some. If y'all get tired of following the election (which I am avoiding like the plague), stop on back in and let's chew the fat a bit.
Gracias, Hellashelle!
Lila, Applause! Applause! Applause! You don’t miss a beat! I’m wild about your recap of the finale, though Uni’s scissors messed up the pace. You’ve got me blushing at those bedroom scenes and laughing at the doofus stuff, like
Perhaps sensing another love pitch, Regina looks steadily at the coffee she’s stirring and says she’s got to get back to the ER.
And I love every exquisite detail about David
His thick dark lashes shield his closed eyes as he sleeps, deeply sedated.
I’m glad Ana saw the light and finally gave up getting with David. And she and Regina are getting along swimmingly. Still, Regina, don’t trust her. As soon as you and David hit a bump, she’ll be standing by. I’m just sayin…
What a lucky villain Mireya is. She should be on probation and made to do public service. What did she do with dirty money?
I’ve never agreed with Rene before, but he was right when all the ER docs were standing over David. I kept wondering “who’s taking care of the rest of the ER patients?”
Lila, I love this:
As the door
closes, Cristian sings out. .
Abre tus alas y dejate amar. .dejate amar!
Spread your wings and let yourself be loved!
Niecaaaaaaay Hey, Girl! Muchisimas Gracias! ITA on Ana and I don't know how much Regina and her Mom talked, but my Momma always told me don't get too chummy with any other woman and start sharing stuff about ya man. In this case, especially when that other woman's got more mileage with that man than YOU do!! Seriously. All these folk need to put some distance between amor and the work space! Jeez!
Thanks for saying Rene was right about anything Niecie! Hee hee!
Niecie, I hope the Peeps clicked on the links to the songs. This novela had BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!!! I'm going to be listening over and over!
I truly do wish ALL these folk, the cast and the supporting crew and all their loved ones love, peace and safety! What a time we're living in! The world is in a terrible spike now; I just want them all and all of us to be safe and well!
Thorough and wonderful recap, Lila. Thanks for keeping it going all the way.
I did see most of the finale. Rene's prison beating was a typical TN revenge and not like anything he experienced in the office.
Appreciate all the comments along the way.
I'm entertaining myself with the morning rerun of Manana Es Para Siempre. Lots of familiar and favorite actors in this one.
Dear Lila, you have been such a positive , bright force on the patio since you sudden!y popped in and took on recapping this show. I feel like i know you even though we have never met in the flesh because your cheery personality shone through every recap and comment you made. I will miss having you as a very nice part of my day. You devoted so much time, talent, and effort to providing us with interesting, thoughtprovoking recaps. Thank you so much.
La Paloma, muchisimas gracias!! I am so glad you stopped in to the Patio! I hope we meet again in another story! I think everyone is a little surprised at the beating. Knowing Rene would be locked up for a very long time was satisfying enough. Yikes!
Dearest Susanlynn! Thank you, Hon! We go back a ways and I think people do have an online presence that we can get to know and I was glad to "meet" you again! Susanlynn, I feel privileged and blessed to have brought you a little sunshine everyday! That is truly so special to me! Please know that even though we may not chat everyday, you have entered my heart and are part of the people for whom I will always pray and send well wishes!
Welllll.. i was expecting a more dramatic reaction from Regina when she saw David!! And ok, I get it, she was at work in doctor mode, but still.. I was expecting her to be so distraught that she got told she couldn’t be part of David’s surgery. But she was cool as a cucumber.
When she was at David’s bedside, the only thing I could think about is why is she wearing so much makeup?! Lol seriously I don’t know why they gave her such heavy makeup when she’s supposed to be sad and distraught
I honestly felt more moved by Ana’s bedside confessions than with Regina. And I did feel bad for her when David woke up and called for Regina- Ana looked heartbroken! I think Ana is being sincere.. she didn’t try to keep talking to David or anything, she immediately went to get Regina because it’s what David wanted, and she told him Regina had been there all night
David wanted to thank Art right away and Art ruined the moment! It was not the appropriate time to bring up Regina, all he had to do was shut up and accept David’s thanks. What did he want? To start an argument right then and there? David is HIS PATIENT, he should be trying to keep him calm, not worked up!
When David shows up at the trial and Regina asks David what he’s doing there I was like, ARE YOU FOR REALS?! What do you think he’s doing there? Taking a leisurely stroll? Geez!
Even all beat up and bruised David is hawt! And I have to say the actor did a really good job in those court scenes because he DID look tired and like he was in pain (without being overly dramatic). I felt so bad for him the way he kept looking at Regina! :( and it seemed like Regina wasn’t worried about him at all :( I can’t believe she didn’t accompany him back to the hospital/his house/whatever. He literally almost died to get evidence that saved your behind and you don’t have the decency to make sure he gets home ok?! Weren’t you just begging him not to leave you and now that he’s awake you blow him off? Ugh.
It bothers me A LOT that David is the one who had to go look for Regina at her house. We don’t know how much time went by, but during that entire time Regina never once went to see him? Not even to check how he was doing physically (checking his wounds, etc)? In that little montage we got I would have loved to see Regina changing David’s dressings at his house. But no! It is implied that David and Regina haven’t talked at all until David shows up at her house!
Regina still didn’t let him talk!! That was so frustrating! I was hoping David would explain how Art had been provoking him for some time and re-assure her that he didn’t have anything with Ana (yes, Regina DOES need to literally be told this because when David is unconscious she is still thinking David wants to be with Ana). But nope, none of the misunderstandings were cleared up! And Regina still thinks Art is Mr.Wonderful and has never done anything wrong
Anyway.. yes, of course I was glad for the very short love scene!! I was resigned to them not reconciling before the season ending, so that WAS a nice surprise!
However, I was not a fan of Regina leaving him there by himself in the morning. Yeah she left him a note, but if I had just reconciled with the love of my life after he almost died, I wouldn’t want to be apart from him for a single second! It would have been sweet if she woke him up with a kiss or something along those lines.. David waking up to a piece of paper is not romantic
I don’t believe in Art or anything he says! He is not done trying to get in a relationship with Regina! We’ve already seen him use different personalities as he sees fit- being an absolute jerk with David then turning around and being the nicest guy ever with Regina. Everything he’s done didn’t work to keep Regina and David apart, so I expect he will have new tactics. Maybe pretend to be David’s friend and from that angle try to brainwash Regina into thinking she’ll never know the “real” David (that he allegedly knows since they’ll be “friends”).
I’ll be back tomorrow to comment on everything else!
HEY, UnOP, good morning, Girl!!!!! Let me tuck into your comment!
I feel ya. Quite a noble act of love, wasn't it? UnOP, I keep thinking of what Ana said to Regina in the common room that day about her, Regina, not knowing David and not being able to stand his manner of being and David's not wanting to bend himself to her many rules and requirements.
Ana was right on the first count: Regina did not know David and did not want to adjust to his manner of being and dumped him at the first bump in the road. But Ana was wrong on the second count: David DID change his manner of being, even before the fight but Regina refused to see that and she does not see how changed he was when he came back to work in the Instituto! She never listened when he tried (pre accident) to explain things to her and when he came to her apartment in the last episode she STILL didn't let him talk. Okay, well the "talked" in other ways.
Thank you for this!!!
AMEN:
When David shows up at the trial and Regina asks David what he’s doing there I was like, ARE YOU FOR REALS?! What do you think he’s doing there? Taking a leisurely stroll? Geez!
UnOP! What the HELL are those stupid lines for???
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Ugh.
UnOP, SHE DIDN'T EVEN SAY THANK YOU!!!!! She didn't even say thanks but went on and on to Miryea about being brave and how she'll never forget what she did! WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE WRITERS GOING FOR??????
It bothers me A LOT that David is the one who had to go look for Regina at her house. . .
This is why I said in an earlier comment that I feel like Art and Regina are playing David! Art hung around to see how Regina would greet David, was eavesdropping heavily and she had ample time to say yes, we're ok, I want to be with you. Though I'm not sure why he didn't ask her that the previous night when he had her under his spell with his magic wand!
More below. . .
Continued answer to UnOp
I don’t believe in Art or anything he says! He is not done trying to get in a relationship with Regina!
Me either, UnOP, and frankly, it makes me feel anxious thinking about all the angles of separation and deception Art would likely deploy and Regina would fall for in a season 2! No, THAT is NOT romantic. I don't know if it's ever been done but I would rather have them "rehabilitate" Ana, have David realize that SHE IS the only one that can make him happy and that Regina is an impossible obsession that he successfully forgets as he and Ana build a life together in their own health care facility!
Whoever plays Regina, I don't care because at this point she is being portrayed as a ball-bustin' facilota like Sergio called her in an early episode! She's narcissistic and egotistical and she just eats up Art's compliments with a spoon: she LOVES it! Let her go find Sergio, ask for his forgiveness and tell him she discovered three is NOT company and she can have Art and Sergio and leave our David in peace!!
While this has ended, I rue we do not have a fresh, new recap from you Lila to pour over and happily digest.
Therefore, we will continue to enjoy your finale Lila which was beyond sweet, savory and satisfying.
While a script dictates the way an actor plays a role, everything is in the interpretation. The same words can be uttered yet the emotion, facial expression and delivery can vastly differ. Now that this is over, I will say that Regina could still have been portrayed with a backbone of steel, yet with a bit more vulnerability. I do think Regina loves David, but she is a person who exudes practicality, and her emotions are buried more beneath the surface than many. Perhaps a bit more tenderness would have made me feel more for the character, but that was utterly lacking (I thought) in the courthouse. And I would not have left a scribbled note but would have awoken David with kisses, assurances and affection.
I still think Art is good at his core. But he does have some psychological hangups that he needs to deal with. And if he truly feels he has a chance with Regina, he is delusional and needs counseling.
Ana is all business but I have high hopes for her. She did nothing underhanded yet fought passionately for David - she was all in.
I suspect happiness is in David's future Lila. I don't think it is with Regina. Well THIS Regina. It will be either with a (new) more loving Regina or someone else all together.
Thinking of everyone on our patio with much affection today.
Diana
Good morning, Diana! So good to "hear" your voice, Amiga!
YES! ITA with you and UnOP!
I still think Art is good at his core. But he does have some psychological hang-ups that he needs to deal with. And if he truly feels he has a chance with Regina, he is delusional and needs counseling.
Diana, I fear a second season would feature this dark psychologically damaged part of Art coming out and it taking Art doing something like kidnapping Regina or hurting David for her to get the message that Art is NOT Mr. Wonderful! Telling him that she does not want to be in a relationship with him has not been enough for Art so yeah, he will keep at her by fair means or foul. Unfortunately it with take the FOUL for Regina to see the light and Art may even have to be killed out of the picture!
I suspect happiness is in David's future Lila. I don't think it is with Regina. Well THIS Regina. It will be either with a (new) more loving Regina or someone else all together.
WOW! What if the actress changes and the write in that she ran off with Art and they have a whole new character for David to fall for and a new romance for us to sigh over!!!
Diana, it has been so much fun! Who knows, maybe I'll show up on another board but for now, I'll chat with y'all about this until the interest wanes and get back to some piled up household and work duties!!!
We all miss her voice. But it is not silenced as it is indelibly etched in our mind and heart.
Diana
Diana, Anita's passing was so dramatic...I know passing away is a part of life but it was just so sudden and unexpected! The thought that she covered for me with a double episode when she was literally at death's door was very impactful! In the context of COVID (which she DID NOT have), some deaths among (extended) family, a childhood friend, just WOW! Dedicating the finale to her memory is just a small gesture. (Feel kinda badly about all the typos in Part 2).
But thanks, Dear Diana! Ah! We just keep forging on with a little help from our friends!
Yay! Wonderful to see all the new comments today. Oh-my-goodness, Regina’s table is thinning out on the Patio.
The writers did Regina no favors. Yep, leaving that note and no gentle kisses on David’s thick lashes was just dumb dumb dumb. In the end, Regina didn’t exactly lucha por su amor. Instead she just stood silent around David and kvetching to Cinthia about him being with Ana. But I like Livia Brito and I hope she comes back, this time with writers who are in her camp.
Thinking about Anita and how she would've skewered the goings on of Médicos. She is very much missed.
Hi, Niecie!
Thinking about Anita and how she would've skewered the goings on of Médicos. She is very much missed.
Thank you for this, Niecie! Would she have skewered the goings on? I had not been on a board with Anita for five years so, sadly, I didn't have any recent memories of her on-blog persona! That makes me smile! I like Livia, too. The novela before this that I recapped was Muchacha Italiana Viene a Casarse, thus the Mexican and Italian flags icon. I just don't know what they're saying about this character unless we're supposed to see HER grow and change in the next season to match the point to where David has grown.
Remember, one of Sergio's beefs was that she was always at the Instituto. We know work/home balance is a central theme in this novela and, of course, this is how Gonzalo lost his family. I'm just thinking back to the early Sergio scenes where Regina was slipping out of bed and away from his sexy body because she had to go to work. Now, that's no excuse for losing all your inhibitions under the influence of whatever it was Sergio took and having a sexual adventure in your marriage bed, but "absent Regina" was a theme.
Regina has NOT dealt with her own struggles in work/home balance. Oh, she counseled Gonzalo all right and she had firm boundaries about infidelity and respect for marriage vows and made an unyielding stand on that count, but she has never dealt with the work/home balance. Art is always wanting to help her and he is more than competent. Why didn't she have him cover for her the whole freaking day and stay home with David? How satisfying would it have been not only to see Regina waking up this man who risked his life to save her from being framed; this man who HAS changed, to see her wake him up with kisses and breakfast in bed and then go WITH HIM HAND IN HAND to the Instituto and announce that he's rejoining the team!? How this would make us long for a Season 2!!!
Why didn't that occur to her/the writers? Because I think Regina's dealing with this life balance will be a factor in next season as well as her needing to be graphically shown that, as UnOP said, Art is NOT MR. WONDERFUL!!! I do believe that David and Regina are intended to be endgame but I think Regina will (inadvertently?) keep Arts hope alive by grinning at all his compliments of her beauty and skill as Jefa of the ER but she will stay with David until Art nuts out and does something desperate! He may be one of these ROs that have to be killed out of the plot. I don't like that Regina will only definitively give Art up because he's demonstrably crazy or dead, but I think that's where we're headed.
Lila. Get a life, Girl!
I've got one, I've got one! I think I'm a closet writer and I may have to research and try my hand at some fanfic. I've got some friends, and my own Daughter has dabbled in it! It might be worth a try!
Good afternoon, Susanlynn, I can certainly see that! I also have heard some actors at least love some of what has been done with characters they portray. I guess there is a whole community out there who discuss and confront these issues and help each other do whatever it is they do! In such a litiginous society, I wonder how people avoid getting sued. I admit, I don't know how it works! For now it's fun to examine different courses of action these characters could have taken and maybe hope a writer will stumble upon our little blog and use some of our ideas?
That's beautiful, Susanlynn. Don't know many quotes. Instead of fanfic, I think I need to just READ!!
Lila, was it you that said Regina is a narcissist? I think you hit the nail on the head! When I think of a narcissist I imagine someone with an ugly attitude, but that’s not necessarily the case. Regina, at the core, is only interested in herself.
If Regina wanted Art to stop hitting on her at work, all she would have to do is tell him to be professional or suffer the consequences (it’s not appropriate to flirt with your BOSS). But no, she doesn’t put an end to it because she enjoys it! Is Regina going to tell David that Art has been after her this entire time and that she was even considering dating him? Of course she’s not! Because that doesn’t benefit her in any way. Even though she was the one who said they had to tell each other everything, blah blah blah
I was thinking that the way Regina dumped David was kind of the same way she bailed on Sergio. They appeared to have a very happy marriage, but after the “incident” she refused to talk to Sergio ever again. She didn’t let him explain anything or try to work out their issues. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending Sergio’s actions, but a 10 year marriage would merit at least trying counseling or something. Anyway, what I’m getting at is that Regina would rather abandon her relationships instead of working through issues because that would require her to admit her own faults- and she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong! She doesn’t think she needs to change either
I agree with whoever said Regina never fought for her love. She sat around and waited for it to come knocking on her door. Literally. David had to go to her apartment! Regina hasn’t done anything to deserve David. She didn’t want to be with David unless he bent himself out of shape to fit her expectations.. and even when he did, she doesn’t lift a finger to repair their relationship. EVERYTHING David has done in the past few weeks was for HER. The man was dying and she didn’t take care of him once he left the hospital? Never visited him? I’ll never stop being pisses about that lol
I would loooove it if next season there was new character- a super hott doctora with a cool specialty like brain surgeon or something, but super sweet personality. Everyone loves her. Her and David fall in love. Regina seethes in jealousy everyday. Mwahahahaha lol. But seriously, I would like David to sincerely fall in love with someone else (not the whole dating-another-person-to-make-her-jealous plot line). Regina can then date Art because she thinks it will make David jealous- except David truly doesn’t give a damn. Art, thinking he has “won”, drops the act and goes full blown psycho! I agree with whoever said Regina wouldn’t believe anything bad about Art unless she sees him do something extreme
UnOP, I don't think I was the first to say it but, yah, the signs are there. ITA:
Your next paragraph is on target, too, UnOP. Surely the writers realize they've crafted a very unappealing leading lady. It all makes sense: She's never had to fight for love or even seek it: she is so beautiful, boys and men have lined up and fallen at her feet all her life. It's a skill set she not only does not have, she doesn't even understand the concept!
I don't remember if you were watching but he took her to a club because he wanted her to teach him to dance. He said that he had turned down her invitation to dance at the 15th birthday party for Flor because he didn't know how to dance. Regina told him, "David Paredes, you are the first man who ever tuned me down for a dance." So yeah, she is physically very beautiful but self-absorbed, lacking self-awareness outside of how she looks and throws herself into her work because that's the other side of her identify. She's a brilliant and focused Doctor but in terms of intimate relationships, she's spoiled and self-centered.
I love the scenario in your next paragraph!
I would like David to sincerely fall in love with someone else (not the whole dating-another-person-to-make-her-jealous plot line). Regina can then date Art because she thinks it will make David jealous- except David truly doesn’t give a damn. Art, thinking he has “won”, drops the act and goes full blown psycho! I agree with whoever said Regina wouldn’t believe anything bad about Art unless she sees him do something extreme
And I may not be the only one, but above I said that she wouldn't believe anything bad about Art unless he became explosively nutty IN A WAY THAT HURTS HER! Since Art saved David's life; "they" may only let Regina fully love David after Art totally cracks up and David has to save HER a$$ from him!
I had a whole rant yesterday, but I decided to delete it and just celebrate the beauty that is Lila because why not? (Also, Lila, thank you so much for posting the link to Corazon Abierto by Fernanda Castro. It is the romantic theme song I think about when I think about Medicos, which is why I originally didn't realize Hilo Rojo was not just a beautiful poem you were sharing with us, but the theme for David and Regina. I love the sentiment of Hilo Rojo, but I like the song Corazon Abierto better).
However, as Lila, has reminded me that the Patio is the place for this, here goes:
UnOp As always, your analysis is wonderful and beautiful and you and Lila and JudyB need to just write TNs so that my life will be complete.
So yesterday I said this:
And, honestly, can I throw in a follow up award for Direction? I swear, some of your recaps gave more depth/romance to a scene than the real scene! I mean, I give mad props to the actors, but some of the direction left much to be desired, imo. Lila, on the other other hand, you have never disappointed.
I really, really enjoyed Medicos. I don't want to rain on the parade of it because I do think it was a really good TN and a really good example of a non-narco New Age TN.
However, and I might be in the minority, but I found the Gran Final disappointing.
To be fair, Gran Finals are often a mix of great and disappointing, partially because we spend weeks and weeks waiting for them and many storylines are very quickly resolved, which makes all that waiting seem for naught. Now, there are times that I watch a TN and the stars are beautiful and the scenes are great and the premise is interesting and actors are good and....the something is still lacking. When that happens, imo, there's often a mix of writing and direction that is ruining things. Throughout Medicos, but particularly iIn the Gran Final, that was totally on display. Honestly, where was the drama that made us gasp, that made our eyes widen, that made us involuntarily put our hands to our hearts? All of that was possible, but the writing/direction team either did not deliver or they cut so many scenes out, that they butchered the finale.
I apologize in advance for all of the ranty posts that are to follow...
I don't mind so much with the smaller storylines, especially since by the finale, I was ready for their resolution just so they could be done, but it's still a lot of lost opportunity. Where was the character development?:
The Guerreros - I think they could have had some far more dramatic scenes, particularly if they had broken up the trio so that we saw Cinthia and her dad one-on-one, and she and her mother one-on-one. Did Cinthia ever really understand the rejection and embarrassment her father felt having built an empire for her only to have her reject it? How much he felt that his life's work was pointless? He acknowledged that he didn't understand her desire to work so hard for others through medicine, but did he understand her desire to earn something completely independently from his power and influence? He left her as his heir as a sign of his respect for her intelligence and ability to work hard, but does he realize the pressure he's putting on her to somehow take on this empire AND be a doctor? Will her mother keep pressuring her in her romantic life? Sure we can explore these things in Season 2, but why did we spend ALL of Season 1 with them having the same argument over and over again only to have everything seem totally resolved in two episodes at the end?
Villains - I think most of us need the least amount of character development from these characters; we just want them to be punished. And we don't even get what feelsl ike adequate amounts of that! Like everyone else, I'm wondering what punishment Mireya got for her crimes? Was her very private firing in front of Connie and realizing Rene was using her supposed to be it? As someone else mentioned, her firing could have at least been public. Plus, Rene ordered her to do things that really affected patients. Shouldn't she have some kind of professional backlash? Loss of license/certification, whatever? Connie didn't really do anything illegal, but she clearly took very little if anything from her whole experience with Rene. Even a short scene of self-reflection about their relationship before the funny take-off-my-ring-while-wearing-the-neckalce-Rene-gave-her would have been more satisfying. The actress has already shown that she can convey a lot of emotion in just a few seconds. And we didn't see anything about how her previous standing in society was affected by Rene's downfall. Seems kind of important as she spent the whole show trying to build her social standing. And Rene...well, I wanted a lot more than just that court scene. I didn't need the beating, but I did want it to be clear that his crimes were laid bare before the hospital staff and the Management people that just showed up to shake their heads that Gonzalo wouldn't hob-knob more. I wouldn't have minded a news clip of corruption being routed out of the Institute and a couple of extras saying "Oh maybe that's why the lights went out while I was there!" or something. The overflow from which could certainly follow everyone into Season 2 as they work to rebuild the Institute's reputation.
Daniel/Clara/Tania--Really? He just breaks up with Clara again, she accepts and he and Tania are now in love? Just like that? There's was one that could have waiting until Season 2 and been far more fleshed out with Tania getting involved with a guy more along her usual lines and truly realizing how awesome Daniel is, instead of just getting jealous and then getting the guy. I realize this could still happen, I just think it made for a disappointing end to their storyline in the GF. I think it would have been more interesting to leave it with Daniel's rejection and even had Tania give him his gift, but leave their romance unresolved with questioning glances and gazes to set up for Season 2.
This is a clear writing fault, imo. The tribunal could have begun weeks ago, Regina should have been involved with the fact finding, it should have played in both her stress levels and should have played a HUGE role in her and David's getting to "know each other" better, as that stupid phrase showed up in almost every one of the few convos they did have, and more definitive proof should have been found (testimony from the clinics that bought the discarded equipment, receipts, actually bringing in one of the faked pieces of equipment). All this lead up with outdated equipment and not a single patient was affected? What says drama more than that?! I mean, it feels like that storyline was really underutilized as they've now discovered the fraud and put the "good guys" back in charge, so this shouldn't be a problem in the future. Total lost oopportunity.
The storylines that felt pretty well utilized during the show and appropriately resolved in the GF. But, to continue my ridiculous opinion dump:
Susana/Luis -- Admittedly, I wasn't as invested in their sl (not a huge Carlos de la Mota fan and I didn't start watching until after the affair sl), but they could have really worked the pregnancy line. Luis just lost his son and almost his marriage. They could have really made us think Susana was sick with something serious for a couple of days, just to build the tension, and then given us the pregnancy save, but I guess their story was ok.
Marco - I'm okay with. He's one of the few characters that actually went through notable changes and has himself set up for further growth in Season 2. His calling Diego was a little schmaltzy, but opens the door for that characters return in a way, so it's all good.
Gonzalo and fam - Also fine. They didn't deal with the anger and frustration he felt about losing his son at first, but everyone apologized a lot and Aurora's cancer makes letting that go make all the sense. His getting his family back is sweet and pretty unproblematic since Javier's an ass (though I guess Aurora needs to actually get divorced?...)
Cinthia/Rafa -- They were the secret romantic leads of this TN. David and Regina had my attention more, but I really did love Rafa and Cinthia's relationship development (whoever was writing their story should have hijacked David and Regina's from their writers). R&C had everything I love in a couple: big, legit obstacles to overcome, but that they support each other through; cute moments of affection; demonstrations of truly understanding and supporting the other person and a willingness to do so. If Rafa cuts his hair, he'll probably steal my heart.
Hellashelle, Girl, thank you SO MUCH!!! MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS!!!!
Thank you for your kind words, Awwwwww! Just want you to know I see you and I can't wait to tuck into this comment! BRB!!!
You let it rip, Hellashelle! This is our last page to do this. Thursday's page will be for the other prime time shows so, don't worry!
Excellent analysis on the Guerreros! DING! DING! DING!
Miryea: Nope, she got off scot free, no penalties or even exposure of her criminal and professional infractions -- NOPE!
Connie and Rene's comeuppance -- ITA I did want it to be clear that his crimes were laid bare before the hospital staff and the Management people that just showed up to shake their heads that Gonzalo wouldn't hob-knob more. I wouldn't have minded a news clip of corruption being routed out of the Institute and a couple of extras saying "Oh maybe that's why the lights went out while I was there!" or something. The overflow from which could certainly follow everyone into Season 2 as they work to rebuild the Institute's reputation.
Daniel and Tania -- not believable. She's going to get under the first hot new Resident that joins the Instituto. Whatever!
The biggest thing I like about your tribunal critique is this: The tribunal could have begun weeks ago, Regina should have been involved with the fact finding, it should have played in both her stress levels and should have played a HUGE role in her and David's getting to "know each other" better . . .
Hellashelle, this cracks me up!
His calling Diego was a little schmaltzy, but opens the door for that characters return in a way, so it's all good.
I could just copy your whole comment on Cinthia and Rafa! TOTALLY AGREE and wish they would do this for the so-called alpha couple!
R&C had everything I love in a couple: big, legit obstacles to overcome, but that they support each other through; cute moments of affection; demonstrations of truly understanding and supporting the other person and a willingness to do so.
If they had done this, Hellashelle, I would not have had to drag Regina around like I have! Don't you think viewers would like that rather than a guy who's wild over the woman who is lukewarm towards him except for a few hours when she thought he was going to die and, of course, those moments when she's under the spell of the magic wand?
Having resolved the administrative malfeasance and patient disrespect/abuse, what will be the major drama? I think a lot of the drama will be, as I said above, Art having to go coo coo crazy for Regina, maybe kidnapping her or something stupid like that and David having to rescue/save her, Art dying and then she will REALLY love David!
Hellashelle. Thank you for your enthusiastic contribution to this watch party. It has been a blast and many times, you set the fuse MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS!!!!
Hold up, Lila, I just need to get the rest of this off my chest before I give it up:
1) Don't you think viewers would like that rather than a guy who's wild over the woman who is lukewarm towards him except for a few hours when she thought he was going to die and, of course, those moments when she's under the spell of the magic wand? Um YESSS!!!!!!! SO MUCH YES!!!!
Ok. Now I have to let my rant join the other rants on the elephant in the TN: David and Regina.
UnOp, as with Lila, I could literally just quote everything you say since most of it feels like it could have been pulled from my head. Like this:
Welllll.. i was expecting a more dramatic reaction from Regina when she saw David!! And ok, I get it, she was at work in doctor mode, but still.. I was expecting her to be so distraught that she got told she couldn’t be part of David’s surgery. But she was cool as a cucumber..., I was not a fan of Regina leaving him there by himself in the morning. Yeah she left him a note, but if I had just reconciled with the love of my life after he almost died, I wouldn’t want to be apart from him for a single second! It would have been sweet if she woke him up with a kiss or something along those lines.. David waking up to a piece of paper is not romantic
I was fully expecting a total breakdown that was going to bring me to tears. When she saw him and froze, I was ready for the rush to his face, the panic of a lover. Then she recovered and I thought maybe they were just going to have her maintain her composure through his surgery to show that she's a great doctor and to show that all of the stoicism that has been SO frustrating for David and all of the fans is useful and is how she's able to do things like get through an incredibly emotional surgery. But no. No big breakdown, not sobbing prayers, or intense self-recrimination. Where was the direction telling her that this was her breaking point? That her motivation is that everything she loves is on that hospital bed? Where was the writing showing her in a daze, having trouble concentrating? Finally shouting at Rene so loud that if he hadn't already gotten her mixed up in the tribunal, we would have assumed she'd have been fired on the spot? Even is she had maintained total control in all of the scenes we saw, all it would have taken is one short scene of her going home and dissolving into uncontrolled tears. Instead, Ana has the most emotional reaction?! What?! And yeah, what was up with the post-coital note on the nightstand. Why? Why not have them cuddle and kanoodle for a scene? Why not give us that?
Diana: While a script dictates the way an actor plays a role, everything is in the interpretation. The same words can be uttered yet the emotion, facial expression and delivery can vastly differ. Now that this is over, I will say that Regina could still have been portrayed with a backbone of steel, yet with a bit more vulnerability.
This is so very true. Which to me highlights the lack of direction. In the court scenes, is Livia Brito choosing not to focus on David for more than 2 seconds? Because why would she do that? And if she is doing that WHY IS THE DIRECTOR NOT RE-DIRECTING HER ATTENTION TO HIM AND TELLING HER TO GAZE AT HIM LIKE ALL SHE WANTS TO DO IS TAKE HIM HOME, LOCK THE DOOR AND LOVE HIM IN ALL THE WAYS?!!! Why are the writers deliberately giving her dumb lines like "why are you here?" and refusing to write the scene in which she thanks him for being there and stares at him with her heart in her eyes? I literally cannot understand these decisions. Please, anyone, please explain it to me because I cannot think of reasons that make sense.
Lila, I could quote basically everything you've ever said, but I want to highlight this note in particular: When David shows up at the trial and Regina asks David what he’s doing there I was like, ARE YOU FOR REALS?! What do you think he’s doing there? Taking a leisurely stroll? Geez!
UnOP! What the HELL are those stupid lines for???
THIS. These are the kinds of things that make me feel like the writers and the direction is deliberately designed to make us hate Regina. Honestly, I really question what they think we want in a romantic heroine. Is this an example of what people mean when they say they need more women in the writing room because seriously QTH with her writing? Aside from wanting to ruin the character, how/why did they take a smart, accomplished, heroine with a premise of vulnerability and the storyline of learning to trust and love after betrayal and just focus on one stubborn insistence on not letting the galan ever explain his actions when they're being misconstrued? Seriously, after her divorce, her main characterization is that she won't let David explain much of anything. They didn't give us scenes of them working together outside of the hospital, gave us very few of them enjoying each other outside of the hospital and basically none of them talking through their final issues. It doesn't make any sense. They're supposed to be the main romantic leads, but they gave all of the secondary characters more scenes for development?! They have Ana tell David about her whole history that explains her deep loneliness and the drive to be a pragmatic doctor, but do they give Regina a revealing scene in which she and the fans realize that Sergio's betrayal went far deeper than we thought and is hampering her ability to trust any romantic interests, specifically David?
Without these glimpses into her thought processes, we are left to try to figure out why she acts the way she does, and we end up with narcissism, which I feel goes too far, but mostly because I don't think she's quite that manipulative. Self-righteous, too rigid, a bit self-absorbed when it comes to her romances and ridiculously stubborn, yes. Lila, you had a great description: She's a brilliant and focused Doctor but in terms of intimate relationships, she's spoiled and self-centered. I think this is more accurate than narcissim, particularly the spoiled part. However, I don't think it's a terrible place to have our heroine BECAUSE THERE'S ROOM TO GROW FROM HERE:
Regina married young and probably had no trouble getting dates before that, so she doesn't have any experience "fighting." She's a beautiful woman, but that's not something that she appears to lead with when going into a relationship. I think she's concerned about connection and respect, but she's never had to really work on a relationship, to demonstrate those things in multiple ways and under conflicting circumstances. Her main "sin" is the lack of self-awareness, as Lila stated. She never had to recognize that her reactions weren't flawless: David throwing the first punch in a fight didn't absolve her of her role in resolving it, her refusal to talk about the problems once they came up was just as much of a problem in their personal life.
I can see her having to apologize to Sergio for wroking late or too much, like Luz, but rather than really digging into it, Sergio had an affair and made the point moot because he was so clearly in the wrong and a total a$$. With David, they both made legit mistakes and they're both cool people, so it should have been ripe land to grow in . With David, she didn't even need to worry too much about work/life balance--he is pretty much just as dedicated and they don't have the same issue of being married to someone who's not in their field (or their workspace). What makes me feel like the writers dropped the ball is that THIS STORY IS ALL ABOUT THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES AND SHE DOESN'T CHANGE!! And it makes NO SENSE because she spends a great deal of time talking to other characters about these same themes! After all of her talking with Luz and Gonzalo about fighting for their loves and trying to make things work, her refusal to even talk to David just feels like sabotage. They gave her Gonzalo, Luz and Cinthia to bounce off of and she didn't listen to ANY of them?! HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? HOW IS THAT LESS THAN RIDICULOUS WRITING? I feel like it's pretty much character assassination.
When it comes to Art, I don't think that she thinks he's "Mr. Wonderful," I think she thinks he's "safe". It seems clear to me that she and Art have very similar ways of doing things, probably similar histories (attractive, smart, don't seem to have a whole lot to overcome in their upbringings). But of course, that doesn't translate into the level of chemistry she's supposed to have with David. But did we get the admission that Art is attractive because he's "safer" than David, but he doesn't stir her passion the way David does? That David feels dangerous because her feeling for him do deeper and because he pushes her to feel so much more than she's used to? Nope. The writers gave us--and her-- NOTHING.
I don't want a new Regina; I want the writers to fix this one because they done her dirty.
Also, shout out to Niecie who summed up my feelings much more succinctly than I ever could when she said The writers did Regina no favors.
DianaI still think Art is good at his core. But he does have some psychological hangups that he needs to deal with. And if he truly feels he has a chance with Regina, he is delusional and needs counseling. LOL! I think Art and Pam will be something. They laid a good groundwork to go in that direction this season without laying it on too thick. And now that she's not a first year and has suffered, I think she'll demonstrate a maturity that will have Art seeing her with new eyes.
Also, I did not like Ana and Regina suddenly being buddies at the end. That felt weird to me. While I think they should have been cordial and professional without the simmering desire to scratch each other's eyes out, I'm also surprised Ana put her desire for David to rest so completely that she's high-fiving Regina in their last scenes together. Too much, imo.
A LOT of things were resolved in the final episode, which I found strange for this TN since it’s going to have another season and it would have made sense to leave some loose threads. Instead they wrapped things up extremely quick, and I don’t see the point. Like with Daniel and Tania.. yeah that just seemed strange.. from one minute to the next Daniel leaves Clara and gets with Tania?
Hellashelle- nothing ridiculous about your opinions! Lol. I agree with what you said about the trial. They could have stretched that out to more than one episode.. I mean if they wanted to cross over with the other TN I would have rather had a longer trial than those episodes we got with el ciego because that had nothing to do with this TN (and there was no shootout or nothin’).
I also thought the end was a letdown.. well, I’m referring to the final scene. Completely anti-climactic. I didn’t watch PASL so I was like seriously? That’s the end? I get that they were trying to lead into the new season of the other show, but I hate that they did that. There’s supposed to be a cliffhanger that makes you want to see the new season of Medicos and we didn’t have one.. I’ve never seen pasl and the cliffhanger we got here does not make me want to see pasl. Sorry. Sorry not sorry lol. I really wish they would have ended with a cliffhanger that had to do with THIS TN. I’m glad David is OK but maybe they could have had him faint in the ER and then end.. we would be left wondering if he was really ok or if there had been more serious consequences from his accident! And I would be blaming Regina for not taking care of him at his house! Lol
I realize that when I start complaining, the words just start flowing out and I go on rants lol. So I know that most the time I comment on what I didn’t like/found frustrating/etc. instead of the things I liked. So I just wanted to say that I actually DID enjoy the TN! Lol. And even though I complained about the writing and story lines, I WAS glad to see a TN without the stereotypical plot lines that we see in every single TN. I do give props to these writers because this was an original TN, so they literally started from scratch. I don’t think I had ever seen a TN that wasn’t a remake or adaptation of some other TN. Hopefully originality and creativity get encouraged in the industry instead of remaking the same novelas over and over again
“ I don't want a new Regina; I want the writers to fix this one because they done her dirty.”
Hahahaha PREACH!!
I personally think that Regina wasn't really ready for romance after Sergio's insulting infidelity. He also was attempting to get Regina to give up her medical career, which gave me a seriously bad vibe. She did want to have children and he didn't. She had her defenses up after all these revelations.
Also, in the courtroom she may have been thinking about the possibility that disclosure of her relationship with David would have had a negative effect on the case.
A number of details of Rene's crimes were missing from the proceedings. I also agree that Mireya wasn't adequately punished, but if other hospitals hear about these things through the grapevine she may be unemployed for a very long time.
I don't think that Constanza was complicit in the frauds in any way. Rene seemed to have been careful enough to keep that from her because of the What-Would-the-Junior-League-Say thing. He kept his two worlds as far apart as any man could and for longer than most can. That must have taken a lot of mental energy.
WHOA! Hellashelle! I went to bed too early last night!!
But no. No big breakdown, not sobbing prayers, or intense self-recrimination. Where was the direction telling her that this was her breaking point? That her motivation is that everything she loves is on that hospital bed? Where was the writing showing her in a daze, having trouble concentrating?
Even is she had maintained total control in all of the scenes we saw, all it would have taken is one short scene of her going home and dissolving into uncontrolled tears.
Hellashelle I am one that wanted to see that kind of emotional reaction, good point here as well, as UnOp noted:
And yeah, what was up with the post-coital note on the nightstand. Why? Why not have them cuddle and kanoodle for a scene? Why not give us that?
What I DON'T GET is her asking him at the trial, "David, why did you come?" and NOT THANKING HIM!!! What about "David! Thank you so much for coming but you have got to get back and rest; please, thank you so much but you've risked yourself enough! Art, get him back to the hospital and I'll be there very soon..." or SOMETHING!!
When David looked at Art and said, "My Doctor gave me permission to come." THAT was a more loving expression than ANYTHING I saw Regina reflect in that courtroom!
AND THIS BIGTIME BOTHERS ME AS UnOP pointed out!!
And she asked him again, "Why did you come?"
What the hell kind of stupid, empty line is that? It makes it look as if Regina has been taking advantage of this time to have ART cast spells on HER! Jeezopete!!!
Hellashelle If I keep quoting your comments, this is going to get longer than a recap but your comment to Diana is BANG ON!!!!
WHY IS THE DIRECTOR NOT RE-DIRECTING HER ATTENTION TO HIM AND TELLING HER TO GAZE AT HIM LIKE ALL SHE WANTS TO DO IS TAKE HIM HOME, LOCK THE DOOR AND LOVE HIM IN ALL THE WAYS?!!! Why are the writers deliberately giving her dumb lines like "why are you here?" and refusing to write the scene in which she thanks him for being there and stares at him with her heart in her eyes?
Hellashelle, what do these people want? Ratings? OK! Viewers? Ok! Captive audiences to watch and covet all manner of products and silly talent shows! OK!! You can have more of that if you give us want you want and don't insult and tease us just to throw us a few crumbs in the finale, telling us there are more scraps to come in a second season!!!!
THANKS, HON! I see y'all were on fire last night. Next comment!
HELLASHELLE OMG, YOUR ANALYSIS IS FREAKING MARVELOUS!!!! I was trying to pick quotes, but I was pretty much copying the whole thing! Any Peeps hanging around for this postmortem, please just go back and re-read Hellashelle's 10:25 and 10:44 posts! Oh, I wish the writers would pay attention to this!!!!
One correction. UnOp said this about Regina's courtroom behavior:
When David shows up at the trial and Regina asks David what he’s doing there I was like, ARE YOU FOR REALS?! What do you think he’s doing there? Taking a leisurely stroll? Geez!
Here's what I said in the recap:
Regina finally goes over to where David is sitting next to Art and says, “David. Why did you come?” [I said I would keep my opinions quiet but if you have a recording, pause right after Regina asks this question and see both David AND Art look at her like, “B*%$#, what the fudge are you talking about?”] BOLD EMPHASIS ADDED JUST NOW.
AMEN:
Aside from wanting to ruin the character, how/why did they take a smart, accomplished, heroine with a premise of vulnerability and the storyline of learning to trust and love after betrayal and just focus on one stubborn insistence on not letting the galan ever explain his actions when they're being misconstrued?
On my observations on work/home balance, you nailed it:
Damn, Girl! Just WOW!
UnOP@ 11:03 If there is anything in there that is an apology, please don't! I think we all liked the TN and no, I'd never seen a Mexican medical-based drama but I'm kind of a ripe old chick who's been around the block a few times and I grew up on medical soaps: The daytime soap General Hospital (the original, 1963). There were also several night time dramas: Dr. Kildare with a hot, young, blond Richard Chamberlain, 1961. A competing network medical drama also 1961 had a brooding, dark-haired Vince Edwards as Dr. Ben Casey. Then there was Medical Center with smokin' hot Chad Everett, 1969 and the wise, paternal Robert Young of Father Knows Best fame playing Marcus Welby, MD in 1969. His young associate was tall, dark and handsome James Brolin! OW!!! Just for kicks, Peeps, Google these! They were great shows! Novelas DO a lot of adaptations. Let them go back and pick some stuff from these oldie but goodies!
Oh, there are a lot of stories yet to tell in a medical drama so I'm okay with them wrapping stuff up, I just want the writers to listen to you, me and Hellashelle and stop the unjust assassination of Regina! In medical and non-medical soaps we've seen characters raised from the freakin' dead so I know they can revive Regina. I want it to be Livia, but whoever it is let them raise her from this selfish, beautiful but clueless woman who can give wonderful advice but never reflects on it!! Okay, it was sexy the first time and we know other parts of the human anatomy can speak volumes, but stop with the kissing people's mouths shut for crying out loud!!!
Urbanita!!!!! Thank you for this! This had crossed my mind and it is very valid but we can add this to me, UnOP and Hellashelle's rants about wanting to have Regina show more emotion in the hospital, or in the privacy of her home or them having given an indication that she checked on and helped her supposed beloved David during his recuperation:
Also, in the courtroom she may have been thinking about the possibility that disclosure of her relationship with David would have had a negative effect on the case.
ITA, Connie didn't know about his misuse of Instituto funds; she was "just" coaching him on his political maneuvering. She's a shallow, materialistic broad and didn't waste any time hooking up with Montesinos! At least it seems she was faithful to Rene, or are they implying otherwise? Anyway, IF there is a second season, she can show up or not and I'd be OK>
Thanks, Urban!
Sorry, Hellashelle and UnOP! Those weren't rants, those were well thought out and passionately expressed opinions which are totally solicited here!!!
This is our last day! New page today at 9 so get it out, Peeps!
Oh yeah, Urban, ITA that Regina was NOT ready for romance after the sudden and traumatic breakup of her 10-year marriage to Sergio. To her credit, she did try to tell David that but he impatiently sighed, rolled his eyes and looked away and she said, we can try.
Here he is again in the last episode with the advantage of deeply impressionable personal intimacy between him and Regina, asking her for another chance. That the writers had him do this at work with Art within earshot on his first day back to the job that Regina fired him from for fighting with Art; the same Art who responded to David's thanks for saving his life with, "yah, I saved your ass but I still want Regina and I'm not giving up!" THAT tells me that if there is a second season there's more distressing wishy-washiness on Regina's part to come; more hurt for David and maybe even a roll in the hay with Regina for Art. Not looking pretty.
But, oh well! This has been fun getting reacquainted with some old Caraymates and meeting new ones. It's also fun to think the writers might drop by our board and pick up some hints! Hey! They're only human, just like us. It could happen!
I am in awe of all the comments!! WOW!! Everything that I could think of has already been expressed thoroughly and eloquently. KUDOS to UnOP, HellaShelle and Lila on their opinions about Regina's shortcomings in the finale as well as throughout the story.
And oh, Lila thank you for that trip down memory lane with all those medical shows you mentioned..and just to add one more which came later..."Trapper John" with Pernell Roberts and Gregory Harrison!
This TN is nothing like those good ol' shows. When it first started I thought it was more like a combination of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Code Black"...both of which I dropped after the first few episodes. MEHHH
BTW, please feel free to continue discussing "Medicos" on the new page which will publish tonight. I have heard that Univision and others (maybe writers??) pop into Caray once in a while, so let's give them some ideas on what we would like to see on Season 2!!!
I enjoyed all of the astute comments. Thank you everyone.
Unsolicited, "...what I’m getting at is that Regina would rather abandon her relationships instead of working through issues because that would require her to admit her own faults- and she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong! She doesn’t think she needs to change either". Wow! I think that was very insightful and powerful.
Helleshelle "Daniel/Clara/Tania--Really? He just breaks up with Clara again, she accepts and he and Tania are now in love? Just like that? There's was one that could have waiting until Season 2 and been far more fleshed out with Tania getting involved with a guy more along her usual lines and truly realizing how awesome Daniel is, instead of just getting jealous and then getting the guy." Totally agree. I'm not convinced these two really belong together. It will take a lot more for me to believe in their future.
Urban, "I don't think that Constanza was complicit in the frauds in any way. Rene seemed to have been careful enough to keep that from her because of the What-Would-the-Junior-League-Say thing. He kept his two worlds as far apart as any man could and for longer than most can. That must have taken a lot of mental energy". Very well said and so true!
And finally dear Lila, your summation of the culmination of so much of our frustration toward Regina's character, perfectly voiced: "No big breakdown, not sobbing prayers, or intense self-recrimination. Where was the direction telling her that this was her breaking point? That her motivation is that everything she loves is on that hospital bed? Where was the writing showing her in a daze, having trouble concentrating?" For those reasons, this great love fell short for me. We will see what transpires in the next.
Lila, I hope you won't stay away too long. In these dark days, your shining light, caring, passion and empathy have been a beacon of hope for all of us.
Diana
Thank you Rgv Chick - our comments crossed.
I hope the writers realize we would like to an emotional commitment by Regina's character if her relationship with David continues, if we are truly to believe in it. And them.
Diana
Thanks, Rgv Chick! I hope my astute and eloquent friends, Hellashelle and UnOP and others will take you up on that. Our two friends were speaking TRUTH!
Writers, Directors, powers that be!
Please get Livia Brito back: She IS Regina! Please help the public to accept her public apology and forgive her! Forgiveness is primary in the best spiritual traditions around the world. We are all only human!
Please don't hurt David anymore: physically or emotionally! You've already nearly killed him but he admitted himself that it didn't hurt as much as when he lost Regina!
If you must hurt someone, hurt Regina and let David show her what love is...let him worry about her and attend to her and protect her! We want to see our David be loved, show love, give love and receive love!!!
Remember the Red Thread theme YOU selected: Don't let that thread be broken by Regina sleeping with or even kissing Art again! Let her stop accepting him hitting on her: this is so wrong! He is so literally cock sure that her sleeping with him or even accepting to go with him would be an act of cuckoldry and would totally emasculate and destroy David! He does not deserve that! I would rather you kill him than humiliate him further! Your having Art tell him that he, Art, still loved Regina as a response to David's saving his life was humiliating!!!
We will watch your show, we will even watch the commercials, it will be good for you, just give us something in return! Listen to me and my friends: we are on your side!! Thank you!
I see you, my friends, be back later. Rgvv Chick, Thank you for letting us continue discussing Medicos on the new page!!
Diana! Good to see you! I do hope I have an excuse to hang around Caray. I am enjoying myself and your sentiments are so uplifting and a blessing to me!! THANK YOU!!!!
One correction, the below quote was from Hellashelle, an apt moniker because she is one helluva novela critic!
"No big breakdown, not sobbing prayers, or intense self-recrimination. Where was the direction telling her that this was her breaking point? That her motivation is that everything she loves is on that hospital bed? Where was the writing showing her in a daze, having trouble concentrating?"
Thanks RegvChivk! If I had my way, I'd probably just sit here ranting and writing fanfiction until Season 2 rolled around, but I promise I will contain myself.
Lila, I read this like a prayer so I just wanted to add an AMEN!!:
Please don't hurt David anymore: physically or emotionally! You've already nearly killed him but he admitted himself that it didn't hurt as much as when he lost Regina!
If you must hurt someone, hurt Regina and let David show her what love is...let him worry about her and attend to her and protect her! We want to see our David be loved, show love, give love and receive love!!!
Remember the Red Thread theme YOU selected: Don't let that thread be broken
Having ranted last night, I feel lighter today and can try to put my rant-rage behind me. I am once again hopeful that the issues we discussed about Regina can be addressed and fixed in Season 2 and I look forward to seeing the character development she lacked in Season 1 come into being in Season 2.
UnOp, I'm just re-reading your comments all day and nodding, so I just want to shout you out again for your excellent analysis. Regina would rather abandon her relationships instead of working through issues because that would require her to admit her own faults- and she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong! She doesn’t think she needs to change either
I agree with whoever said Regina never fought for her love. She sat around and waited for it to come knocking on her door. Literally. David had to go to her apartment!
Just...so much truth. A lot of what Regina does is fine...to a point. I don't blame her for firing David, for example. She had her reasons and they were legit. But I blame her for not talking to him about it first, then not talking to him at all after and not investigating anything at any point. These are the issues that are just bewildering and presented to us with no explanation.
I have a lot less of an issue with her and Art because once she got with David, her interest in Art to me has always been barely minimal. She's not excited about him and has made it clear to him on multiple occasions that she thinks he's a nice guy, but he doesn't do much for her ("She's just not that into you," if you will). If he wants to keep pushing, knowing full well that she's with David, eh, I shrug. If he were pushing kisses on her, that would change my perspective, but between the fact that David and Regina are quite openly a couple on front of him now, plus the fact that I think he and Pamela have something bubbling, I don't see him as a real threat any more.
It might be nice to see her shut him down entirely, but I get that she's been telling herself that David wasn't an option and arguing with herself that Art should be, despite his not inspiring passion within her. I think most of us have been there, irl. David was in a slightly different situation in which he knew Ana was into him, he was clear that he wasn't into her like that anymore, but he had the added support of needing her access to files for his research on Rene, while Regina didn't need Art the same way. All in all, I don't mind so much Art or Ana's roles in the past few weeks, I'm just pissed at the lack of interaction between Reg and David, driven by incomprehensible non-action on the part of the writers, imo.
The more I think on it, the more I smh. Patio Peeps, can anyone give me some perspective on this where I shouldn't feel like there was some serious Hand-Of-God (or Hand-Of-Writers, as the case may be) at play versus understandable character actions? I mean, you guys have presented some great insight into where Regina might be coming from, but I find it basically impossible to accept the storyline as a natural progression when I feel like the writers gave insight into every other character's motivations except Regina's. Am I just being blind?
IMO, When Regina asked David what he was doing at the courtroom,I don't think the writers are at fault. I believe that the Director AND Livia herself dropped the ball. Because he had been at death's door, had barely been disconnected from the various machines and was still very weak, Gonzalo had told him he shouldn't go to the hearing - for the sake of his health. When he showed up, her stern and cold "What are you doing here?" Should've been delivered in a warm, concerned manner, to show she cares for his wellbeing and is worried about him. THAT'S why he said his doctor (Arturo) allowed it.
Anon 2:32, I'm with you on the direction falling down. We can't know why Livia would deliver those lines in that way, but the Director should have corrected her on in.
The line by itself though, and in the context of all rest of the show, is what has me also placing blame on the writers' doorstep. With proper direction and delivery, the line wouldn't have fallen so harshly on the audience, but without other scenes or lines written to explain her actions, the whole last third of the TN really bashed her character.
Thank you, Hellashelle!!! We've got to get the writers to listen to us! We ARE on their side! I wonder what our Mexican friends thought of the Regina/David relationship?
Just...so much truth. A lot of what Regina does is fine...to a point. I don't blame her for firing David, for example. She had her reasons and they were legit. But I blame her for not talking to him about it first, then not talking to him at all after and not investigating anything at any point. These are the issues that are just bewildering and presented to us with no explanation.
YES MA'AM!!!
. . .between the fact that David and Regina are quite openly a couple on front of him now, plus the fact that I think he and Pamela have something bubbling, I don't see him as a real threat any more.
I hope so, Hellashelle
I'm just pissed at the lack of interaction between Reg and David, driven by incomprehensible non-action on the part of the writers, imo.
ZIPPO INTERACTION. Like, they don't know how to write or direct them unless they're kissing or having sex? Wonder who the heck the writers are?
I find it basically impossible to accept the storyline as a natural progression when I feel like the writers gave insight into every other character's motivations except Regina's.
All I can think of is that they don't know how to write for a man and woman who are professional peers when there is also a sexual element/dynamic present? Or maybe they don't know how to write for men and women when there is a current or even past sexual relationship? Think of all those types of pairings; which ones were happy besides Paco and Elena? Susana and Luis; Aurora and Gonzalo were eventually happy and Cinthia and Rafa finally made it there. I don't know, my theory is falling apart as I write it but it seems if there's active sexual attention/attraction, these couples don't talk much, they either get it on, fight, or in the case of Ana/David; Paulina/Luis, the man is under constant seductive pressure from the woman.
Like I said, it's kind of a weak theory. I just think they don't know how to right for the kind of Regina we have described.
Hella, you tell me why they think we want to see a couple like Rene and Mireya slurping all over each other. GUACALA!!!
Just a quick note. Enjoying all the passionate, continuing discussion of this show. And wanted to thank you, LILA, for dedicating the gran finale recap to our dear ANITA. Were she still in this world, she would have been right in there pitching with lots of character analysis and discussion. She livened up CarayCaray with her humor and insight and we miss her, as we do so many others. Madalyn and Carlos come to mind for sure. But I liked SUSANLYNN'S quote about the immortality of living on in the hearts of others. She is in our hearts for sure, along with SUSANLYNN'S sweet Hub.
Thanks, JudyB!!! I'm sorry I missed getting to know Anita better during those years I was away. She sounds like she was a real firecracker as well as a brilliant writer with an excellent insight about these stories! God rest her soul.
I guess we will run out of steam in a bit. It's just frustrating when writers don't seem to know what they've got! They've got a wonderful cast and the alpha couple are beautiful and talented people! THEY SHOULD USE IT!!!!
