Hija #42 part 1

Candan says, get out or I will call the police! Ugur thinks she has every right to do so. So, what the hell are you doing here? Do you want to rob my clinic, too? Ugur asks for just give five minutes of her time. He says it’s not for him but for Demir. Candan is still very upset but relents; ok five minutes or I’ll call the cops.

Asu shows at Cemal’s. He answers the door in a robe. She is reluctant to enter. Is this a bad time? Should she come back later? No, it isn’t and Cemal asks her in. First thing she says is, do you have anything to drink? Cemal wants to know what happened. Is she upset? Asu wants a drink and asks him to get dressed first.

Ugur tells Candan it is true what she has heard about Demir and him. We are con artists. But he swears they have left that behind. Demir has changed very much after meeting her. He doesn’t do that stuff anymore. Ugur claims he is following Demir’s example. Ugur takes the blame for pressuring Demir into stealing her paintings. Demir did not want to do it, Ugur swears again.

Candan is listening to Ugur’s explanation in silence. Ugur continues, it’s true that Demir did bad things in the past but he has become a totally different person since you and Oyku came into his life. Listen, he says, it’s not for me to tell you what to do. But he wants her to know that Cemal is the same as them. This seems to get Candan’s attention. Ugur tells her that is not all; Cemal just got out of jail. What? Candan has a flashback to when she introduced Cemal to Demir at her clinic. She is trying to process this bit of info. Ugur is sure that Cemal will deny this if she asks him about it. He wants her to know that none of them are innocent but Demir is trying to build a new life with his daughter.

Asu has her drink and Cemal asks her, are you like this because Oyku might be upset? He laughs because he thought this was something serious. Asu gets annoyed with Cemal and says didn’t he tell her to gain Oyku’s trust? She tried and it went wrong. Cemal tells her not to get upset. She is seeing Oyku tomorrow. He tells Asu to just do something to make her happy. He calls her mommy and she accuses him of mocking her. He advises her, don’t let the situation get the best of you. Asu has heard enough and she gets up to leave. Wait, says Cemal.

Class is dismissed and the kids get ready to leave. Mercan has his head on his desk. Oyku asks him what is wrong. He’s worried about the homework. He has so much trouble with Math. He feels so dumb. Oyku has an idea; she will be his tutor. Come to my house and study with me. Ask your mom to let you come over tomorrow. At first Mercan is happy but then he gets worried and says, won’t your dad get mad? This gives Oyku pause but then she says no, why would he be mad?

Back to Ugur and Candan. He swears that all he said is true. A final plea from Ugur--all I ask, no, I’m begging you to give Demir another chance. She answers, your five minutes are up. Leave now or I’ll call the police. Ugur exits and runs into Demir on his way out. Demir asks him, what are you doing here? Demir is steamed. He yells at Ugur. He wants to know what Ugur told her. Nothing, Ugur says. Just then Cemal and Asu come out of the building. Just what Demir needed.

Hija #42 part 2

Well, well, Cemal says, look who’s here. Asu says, let’s guess why you are here. Is it Candan? Ugur says yes, he came to clear up what Cemal has said. Cemal fills Asu in, he told Candan all she needed to know about Demir. Demir makes a run at Cemal and they start yelling at each other. Ugur and Asu try to keep them separated. Candan hears the commotion and comes out. The fighting stops.

Demir tells Candan he came to talk. She says so you knew each other and here I thought I introduced you. Why are you here? To rob me again? Asu is smirking in the background and enjoying the show. Candan turns to go back inside. Demir stops her and says, I couldn’t talk to you yesterday because of Oyku. Can we talk inside?

Candan doesn’t feel like talking. Asu pipes up and says, Candan aims and fires! Candan tells Asu to mind her business. Then Cemal chimes in. He asks Demir how long he planned on lying to Candan. Candan doesn’t spare CemaI and tells him, I know all about you, too! Cemal seems surprised by this. Candan continues, you’re all the same as Demir. You all disgust me. Do not involve me in your filthy dealings. She has had enough and with that, Candan closes the clinic door in Demir’s face. Demir shoots a look at Cemal and takes off. Ugur goes after him.

Demir, wait! Ugur says, everything was fine and then those idiots had to show up. Ugur thinks Demir should go back and speak with Candan. Demir yells, Candan is right! We are all the same. What is the difference between me and those devils? I took advantage of Candan. Ugur tells Demir he meant well by coming here. All he wanted to do was fix things between Demir and Candan. Demir calms down saying, there’s nothing else to do about it now. He asks Ugur to pick up Oyku because he has to see the lawyer.

Asu heads to the bar. Give me a whiskey. The bartender thinks it’s early. Asu says it’s late for her. She downs it and says, give me another. She downs that one, too.

In the next scene we see Asu stumble up to the school. Other parents are there, including Ilayda’s mother. Asu sees Oyku and starts yelling and waving. Ilayda’s mother whispers to the others, I can’t believe it. She’s drunk! Asu falls to the ground. Oyku hurries over to Asu and asks what she’s doing here. Ilayda and her mom walk past them. Ilayda tells her that’s Oyku’s mom.

Oyku asks Asu, are you drunk? And then she says Ugur will be here soon; please leave. Asu is still sitting. Asu says she doesn’t care about Ugur. She is there to pick up her daughter! Oyku sighs. Asu knows that Oyku is mad at her. But she was confused about the day of the event. Oyku doesn’t seem to care about that now. She’s more concerned about Ugur showing up and seeing Asu. Asu says she will pick up Oyku tomorrow and they will have a girls’ day out. Ok, but leave now, says Oyku. Asu is in no hurry to leave. She apologizes; it was a misunderstanding. Asu finally gets up and stumbles away. Oyku watches her stagger down the street.

Ugur shows up and Oyku wants to leave right away. No, he wants to see Sevgi first. Ugur goes to her. They didn’t have a chance to talk after the charity event. He asks her for her phone number so they can set up time to meet. They can call or text. Sevgi has to go. Oyku sees Ugur smiling and says it must have gone well. Gimme five, says Ugur.

Hija #42 part 3

Demir is with the lawyer. He reminds Demir not to lose his cool in court. Demir asks if they should let the court know that Asu is an alcoholic. Yes, it is in the details, but the judge might want a report. Your word won’t be enough. The judge will decide based on Oyku’s testimony. That is the key. She has to be prepared. She must sound confident. There can be no misunderstanding. Demir says, don’t worry, my daughter knows what she needs to tell the judge.

Ugur wants to text Sevgi. He doesn’t want to bungle this. He asks Oyku for help. What should he say? She doesn’t know. Come on, she’s your teacher, you know her best. Oyku says, say something like what’s up or how are you—that’s what people say these days. Ugur will give it a try. Ugur wonders if he should still call her “Ms. Sevgi”. Oyku mentions that Demir and Candan used to be formal at the beginning. Ugur responds without thinking, they hardly talk anymore. What do you mean they hardly talk? Uh, they are busy and don’t have the time. Demir comes home and Ugur leaves.

Candan is closing for the day. Cemal comes in. He was waiting for her to calm down a bit before he spoke to her. He doesn’t know what they told her, but he is sure it was a lie. Candan tells him, you neglected to say you met Demir before. She also found out he is a thief, too, and that he was in prison.

Cemal denies he is a thief, but he admits he was in prison. He knows Demir and Asu well from their time in the orphanage. Then Ugur joined our circle. Later, he found out that Ugur and Demir were doing illegal stuff. Cemal was on the right track at the time but they dragged him into their dirty business. Now Asu is away from her daughter and they lie to you!

Cemal continues, it is true I pretended not to know Demir and I regret that. But he never thought Demir would scheme like this. Besides he thought that she and Demir had a relationship. Candan has been silent until now and says there is no relationship. That’s not going to happen. And she says, she doesn’t know what to think anymore. She learned too many things in the last two days. She confused and frankly, she can’t trust Cemal now. She can’t trust anyone. Cemal understands but he asks that she be fair and consider what he has told her. He doesn’t want to leave her with a bad impression. She asks him to leave but before he does, he says she should call him if she wants. Outside, he smiles.

Ugur is texting Sevgi. Let’s have a coffee tomorrow. Mufide asks why he is smiling so much. Is it Umran? No way and he’s not interested. Mufide makes a case for Umran. Ugur’s not interested, period. Sevgi texts, she’s not sure about tomorrow. Ugur texts back, it’s only coffee, don’t turn me down. Sevgi texts, ok we can talk in the morning. Mufide is still stuck on Umran. Ugur says emphatically, the only girl for him is Sevgi.

Cemal goes to a shady hangout and speaks with a shady guy. Cemal needs to get someone out of prison right away and he knows Mr. Shady is the best. The guy says, that’s very costly and it won’t be easy. Do you have that kind of money? Don’t worry, says Cemal, if you manage to get him out, it will be worth your while.

Demir is putting Oyku to bed. Oyku has a question. Are you and Candan mad at each other? Ugur said you’re not talking. Demir admits they had an argument. Oyku is concerned but Demir says friends argue now and then. Don’t you ever argue with Mercan? Ay, Mercan, Oyku remembers. Dad, I told Mercan to come over to study Math tomorrow. Demir won’t allow it. He wants to spend quality time with her before Asu comes to pick her up. No to Mercan. The argue back and forth. He threatens to transfer her to another school. Papa!

dondi356

Hija #42 part 4

Of course, the next scene is Mercan and his mom at Demir’s door. Demir opens the door and says hello to Betul and bids a grudging welcome to Mercan. Betul has brought spare clothes just in case. Demir assures her not to worry, he will keep his eye on him. Mercan looks so nervous. He must really like Oyku to be brave enough to face Demir.

Oyku greets Mercan. He says her house is very nice. Demir interrupts. Time to hit the books. Put them on the table. Where I can see keep an eye on you. Oyku protests, we are studying in my room and they go in and shut the door. Demir is jealous; Oyku pays no attention to him when Mercan is around. He vows, you’re not going to compete with me, Mercan.

Urgu runs into Umran on the street. She was on her way to see Mufide. Ugur is in a hurry. She asks if he has a date? He says that’s not her business and that someone is waiting for him. Ugur walks away but Umran follows him.

Asu is sleeping on the couch. Cemal calls. Remember you are picking up Oyku today. Remember to be sad because you missed the event. They will have to meet later because Cemal has something to do today. Asu is hungover.

Umran follows Ugur right into the restaurant. Umran takes a seat and watches from a distance. Ugur goes to Sevgi. He kisses her hand and both cheeks. Umran is not happy.

Demir breaks into the study session with some juice. Oyku says dad, we just had something to drink. Demir wonders where Mercan’s mom is, it’s getting late. Oyku says they just got started and he’s not letting them study. Demir doesn’t leave the room; he sits on Oyku’s bed. The kids try to study but Mercan is very nervous. Demir picks up The Little Prince and pretends to start reading.

Mercan tells Oyku, sometimes your dad terrifies me. Oyku goes over to Demir. Dad, are you really going to read here? She takes the book from him and says, I can’t focus and Mercan is afraid. Demir is annoyed. What am I, the boogey man? Why do you get like this when he is around? Demir grudgingly leaves. He tells the kids to keep studying and leave the door open. I think Demir takes this Mercan stuff to a ridiculous level. He should be glad Oyku has such a loyal friend.

Back to the coffee date. (I’m gonna do a little FF’ing here). Sevgi and Ugur are talking and laughing. He asks her if they can be less formal. Can I drop the Ms.? She doesn’t see a problem. Ugur proposes a toast. Umran goes over to their table. Ugur!

Cemal is at the prison. He’s escorted to the visiting room. Who is he visiting? It’s Jilet! Jilet takes a seat and picks up the phone. He is surprised to see Cemal and asks what are you doing here? Cemal has good news for Jilet, you and I have mutual enemies.

And we are out.

dondi356

Thank you, Dondi! I missed the first half but I knew I could count on you to give me all the details.

Candan's head must be bigger than a watermelon; so many truths and lies being thrown at her and she has no idea which is which! I really can't blame her for not wanting to talk to anyone, but why did she let Cemal come in and feed her more bull. And Demir still hasn't gotten his chance to explain...GRRRR.

I would have loved to have seen Asu make a fool of herself...keep at it Asu, you're only digging your hole deeper and giving Demir more ammunition.

Oh, noes! Cemal and Jilet are joining forces! Well, we knew that eventually Jilet had to came back into the picture, but dang it, with Cemal as his partner, Demir is in for some heavy duty trouble. I suppose Cemal is preparing in case the custody hearing goes in Demir's favor.

Sevgi is cute, but Ugur is still a blundering idiot...and now he has a stalker! Run, Sevgi, run!!

hija

Thanks very much, dondi356, for yet another superb recap! Anyone who missed the episode needn't worry--you've captured it clearly and completely.

Well, so we again see the two almost incompatible sides of Ugur. He does a kind and brave thing going to see Candan to plead for Demir, and I think on the whole he does a terrific job. But he's a bumbling idiot in anything having to do with Sevgi. Of course, I suppose I shouldn't say "bumbling," since he does seem to be winning her over (though frankly, it makes me continually wonder about Sevgi). As for stalker Umram, nothing more need be said. However, I'm a little surprised that Mufide pushes so hard for Umram. Admittedly, she hasn't seen her in Stalker Mode. But I'd have thought that Mufide would be delighted that Ugur has any love interest, so when Ugur insists that Sevgi is the only one for him, Mufide would be thrilled. Oh well...

When Ugur tells Candan that Demir, Cemal, and Asu knew each other from the time they were together in the orphanage, Candan has a flashback to when she introduced Demir to Cemal. In the flashback, Demir has a very puzzled look on his face as he and Cemal shake hands. I was hoping that Candan would notice that as she flashes back, but apparently she doesn't.

What's with the spare clothes for Mercan? Mercan has come over to study math, not play football. Does he still have "accidents"?

Well, Cemal's coming to see Jilet in prison surely doesn't bode well for Demir. On the other hand, Asu's appearing very drunk as Oyku and her classmates come out of school is probably a good thing. Oyku certainly wasn't pleased.

hija

Fantastic recap, Dondi!

Well, the plot certainly thickens. I'm not sure exactly what Cemal's plan is with getting Jilet out of prison. My first thought was that he wanted Jilet to fabricate some story about Cemal having been unjustly sent to prison (for Candan's benefit). It could also be to testify about Demir and Ugur's plan to undervalue and get possession of the paintings. But wouldn't that mean that Jilet's involvement in the plot would also be revealed?

Yes, I am getting annoyed with the stupid idea that Demir is jealous of or fears some threat from poor Mertcan.

I can't imagine what Umran could possibly say to Sevgi. She's only met Ugur once!

I thought the clothes for Mertcan might have meant that his mother considered the possibility of his staying overnight after they'd studied math. Considering that they are EIGHT YEARS OLD that would have been a fairly innocent thing should it happen.

Maybe Mufide was pushing so hard for Umran because, like nearly all mothers in telenovelas, she wants her adult child to marry a known entity, someone in her own circle. She's also in a big hurry to get grandchildren!

Hija

Thanks everyone! Great comments.

I thought it was weird that Mercan’s mom brought a change of clothes. I think she mentioned in case they were playing and he got his clothes dirty—you know how kids are.

Cemal is using Jilet to his advantage by turning him loose on Demir. It is entirely believable to think that Jilet would want revenge on Demir once he’s out of jail. This will work well for Cemal as long as no one finds out he’s behind the jailbreak.

novelera, I agree with your Mufide-Umran theory. I would imagine that Umran’s mother is also in a hurry to get her daughter married off, too.

I'll do a recap of tonight's episode.

Todo por mi hija - #43 - p 1 de 3

Cemal is at the prison talking with Jilet. Jilet asks "Were you able to do what you promised me?" Cemal replies, "I wouldn't be here now talking with you if I hadn't." Jilet is pleased and surprised. Cemal tells him, "We want the same thing, that Demir and Ugur are brought down." Jilet agrees.

Meanwhile, Ugur is being brought down by something very different: Umram the Stalker. She comes to the table at the restaurant where Ugur is having a coffee date with Sevgi. "Ugur!" Umram calls out. Ugur is stunned to see her. "What are you doing here?" he asks. She angrily asks why he's seeing other women. Sevgi wants to know who this woman is. Umram indignantly replies, "I am his fiancée!" "What?" Ugur exclaims. "Are you crazy?" He tries to explain to Sevgi that the woman is a friend of his mother and he barely knows her. He then says to Umram, "Give me the number so I can call your doctor and tell him you're having a breakdown!" Alas, Sevgi thinks Ugur is making fun of Umram. Angrily, Sevgi leaves.

At Demir's, Demir is upset that Oyku and Mercan are spending so much time on their homework. Mercan's mother comes to get him, and Demir hurries him out of the house. Both the mother and Mercan are very gracious, making it clear that Oyku is welcome to come to their house any time. As they walk toward their car, Mercan's mother asks how things went. Mercan replies, "Math is hard, but I did it."

Almost as soon as Mercan has left with his mother, Asu arrives. Demir complains to Oyku that because she spent so much time with Mercan, he won't have any time with her. Demir tells Asu that Oyku is getting ready. Asu says she'll wait outside. Demir wants to know what Asu plans to do with Oyku. Asu mentions going to the movies. Demir tells her to make sure it's a children's movie.

Oyku recites the litany of things she must do (brush teeth, take meds, etc.) and then leaves with Asu. Asu proposes that they have something to eat, since she's hungry. Oyku agrees.

Ugur is furious at his mother for encouraging Umram. He says he wouldn't be surprised if the woman escaped from a mental hospital. He makes it clear that he doesn't want Umram to come to the house. Mufide insists that she's welcome. Ugur tells her, "well, enjoy your new daughter. I'm leaving!" He storms out of the house and goes to see Demir. He tells Demir, "I've left home." Demir wants to know more, but Ugur doesn't want to talk about it.

Oyku tells Asu that they should go to Asu's place; it's getting late. Asu calls for another beer. Oyku asks, "Are you drunk again? You promised you'd have only one bottle." Oyku then brings up the charity event that Asu missed. Asu tells her she forgot, and then says Oyku's been asking all the questions, it's now Asu's turn. "Why don't you call me Mamá? Why do you insist on calling me Asu?" Ouku replies, "I'll call you Mamá when you stop drinking." Asu laughs and says, somewhat appreciatively, "That's a good idea." Oyku then asks why Asu never came to see her for all those years. Asu replies, "I was trying to survive, just like you. You think I'm lying?" Oyku tells her, "You know the judge won't give you custody." "You're not the judge," replies Asu, and then says "Let's go." She calls loudly for the bill, and then yells even more loudly. It's clear she's had too much to drink.

A worried Demir calls Asu's phone, wanting to talk to Oyku. There's no answer. Ugur expresses some concern, since it's so late. Demir sarcastically thanks him: "That's just what I need, more worry."

Todo por mi hija - #43 - p 2 de 3

Asu and Oyku leave the restaurant, but Asu is clearly drunk and has a hard time walking. Oyku suggests that they take a taxi. Asu seems to agree, but suddenly she stops. "Listen," she says to Oyku. "They're playing my favorite song. Let's go where the music is and dance!" She drags Oyku with her. Oyku keeps asking her to get a taxi. Asu arrives at the place where the music was coming from. Two guards stand at the door. They stop her from going in, telling her that she can't come in with a minor. "Make an exception," she says, trying to push her way past them. Someone in the background says to call the police. When Asu can't get by the guards, she threatens, "I know the owner, I can have you fired." She again tries to force her way in. They push her back, and she in turn knocks against Oyku, who falls to the ground. Oyku looks at her hand, which has been scraped and is slightly bleeding. Asu asks Oyku if she's hurt. Oyku assures her she's not. Asu then gets up and attacks the guards once again, screaming "See what you did to my daughter, you bastards!" During this scene, the camera kept showing us briefly Asu's cell phone, which was lying on the ground. We see that Demir is calling.

The police arrive and take Asu and Oyku to the police station. One of the police officers asks Oyku, "Is she your mother?" Oyku doesn't respond. Finally, Asu replies, "Yes, I'm her mother." She sees Oyku looking at her wounded hand and asks again whether it hurts. Then she says, "Do you know why I named you Oyku? I wanted you to have a story that would determine your fate, a fate different from the one I had." She continues, "When you were born, you had long, thick eyelashes. You were so beautiful I decided to give you up so your life would be as beautiful as your face." Oyku seems moved, and she reaches to touch Asu, but Asu abruptly pulls away and calls out for water. She starts yelling for water, and she claims her treatment is inhuman because they won't give her water. She then asks how they can arrest her for going to a bar. She then stumbles and falls. Oyku gets up, hurries over to a water cooler, and brings Asu a cup of water. Asu responds, "Why don't you call me Mamá?" and then thanks her for the water.

Suddenly Demir and Ugur enter the police station. [I'm not sure how they knew where Asu and Oyku were.] Asu is not pleased to see them. She tells them"We're alike. We're rotten inside." Then Demir, Ugur, and Oyku take a taxi back to Demir's house. Asu, on the other hand, gets thrown into a cell, perhaps just to dry out.

After Oyku has gone to bed, Demir asks Ugur, "Tthe judge won't give Oyku to Asu, will he?" "No, of course not," replies Ugur. Demir seems to feel somewhat reassured, "You're right," he tells Ugur. "She's mine."

ONE WEEK LATER. It's the day of the hearing. Demir is dressed in a jacket and tie. Oyku asks why Ugur is staying with them, and will it be for much longer. She says she likes Ugur, but she doesn't understand. Demir first says, "So, you miss spending time with your father, right?" He goes on to say that Ugur got into a fight with Sra. Mufide. Demir then asks her whether she's feeling OK. He tells her the judge will ask her some questions, and she shouldn't worry.

Ominously, the scene shifts to Cemal, who is waiting outside the prison for Jilet. We see the prison door open and Jilet steps outside. "I hope we enjoy our collaboration," Cemal says.

Todo por mi hija - #43 - p 3 de 3

At the courthouse, Oyku spots Candan. "Candan, it's you!" she says happily. Candan asks, "Do you think I'd miss such an important day?" Asu enters the courthouse, accompanied by her lawyer, and walks right by Candan. Ugur urges Demir to keep calm. Demir tells Oyku he has to go speak with the judge, so she should stay with Ugur.

The scene in the courtroom is pretty much what one might expect. Asu and her lawyer claim that Demir has been making ends meet by doing illicit jobs. The judge says these claims will need to be proven.

Demir and his lawyer claim that Asu is interested in Oyku only for the money that Asu's father left Oyku in his will. Moreover, Asu is an alcoholic who recently created a scene trying to enter a bar with a minor.

The judge tells both sides to behave and threatens to send Oyku to an orphanage. He then asks Asu why she gave up her daughter. Asu replies, "I was scared that the baby and I would starve. Now, I regret that decision."

The judge announces that he will make his decision after hearing from Oyku. He asks everyone to leave the courtroom while he speaks to the girl in the presence of a specialist.

Demir seems very happy with how things went so far. He tells Oyku that she has to go into the courtroom and speak with the judge, and she should say whatever she wants. He (Demir) will be right outside the courtroom. Asu comes over. Oyku looks from Asu to Demir and then walks slowly toward the courtroom. In the courtroom, a woman, the specialist, takes Oyku by the hand. She assures Oyku that she'll be here, and that she understands.

Outside the courtroom, Ugur is almost jubilant about the likely verdict. [I can't shake the feeling that this is a bad sign.]

The judge addresses Oyku and says that he and she will have a nice conversation. She should listen to her head and her heart. And then he asks The Question: "Do you want to live with your mother or your father?" Needless to say, that's where the episode ends.

Thank you, Juanita! Stellar recap with all the juicy and not so juicy details.

Good grief, can they just cut the Ugur-Umram story line? They sure picked a good name for her since she is “ramming” into Ugur’s life. For once (well maybe more than that) I agree with Ugur, this nut probably escaped from some loony bin. I can understand Mujide trying to set him up, but to insist to the point that he leaves the house is ridiculous. She had never mentioned pairing him up before, why now? Or are the writers finding ways to stretch out this story?

How can Asu be so stupid. You’d think she would be on her best behavior. Is she really so confident that she will win custody regardless if her wreckless behavior? Good’m wondering now if Oyku was asking to spend time with Asu because she knows Asu will only hang herself (so to speak). Oyku is such a sharp little girl that I wouldn’t put it past her. My fear is that Oyku will think that Asu needs to be taken care of and she will want look after her .

The court hearing was unrealistically short...unless the judge had already reviewed all the evidence. I was a little perturbed by Oyku’s hesitation, but the I realize that this was the cliffhanger so I’ll let that go.

Got to go, be back later...

Hija

Thank you for another fabulous recap, Juanita!

Regarding some of the head scratching moments when things seem to appear out of nowhere, keep in mind this show has been edited from the original.

Really annoyed with Demir and his treatment of Mercan. Mercan shows more maturity. I’m sure Demir will never let Oyku go over to Mercan’s house.

Asu is a train wreck. I know she had an awful childhood, but I find it hard to have any sympathy for her. Cemal isn’t doing her any favors either.

I am very concerned about the custody decision and I am preparing myself for the heartbreak. Yes Juanita, our guys (mostly Ugur) do seem overconfident and that is never a good sign in a TN. Rgv Chick, I also fear that Oyku might choose Asu for the reasons you stated. Oyku didn’t look very happy leaving for court. One could take it as nervousness, but one would think she would be happy and reassuring Demir that she would choose him.

dondi356

hija

Many thanks, Rgv Chick, for your appreciative and perceptive comments! Yes, I too found myself in agreement with Ugur about Umram, and I loved your observation that her name suggests her ramming into Ugur's life.

I think Asu's inappropriate behavior indicates how out of control she is. She apparently can't manage without alcohol, and with it, she does all kinds of things she wouldn't do sober. I hadn't considered the possibility that Oyku might feel the need to look after her. Arrgh! I too was a bit unnerved by Oyku's seeming hesitation. Fortunately, I'm feeling so happy (no, make that ecstatic!) at the moment that I'll not dwell on the possibility that Oyku might make the wrong decision. Nor will I think about Cemal and Jilet gumming up the works next week.

hija

Thanks very much, dondi356, for your very supportive and insightful comments, which I didn't see until after I posted my message to Rgv Chick.

Thanks for reminding us that the telenovela has been edited from the original, so some of what seems to come out of the blue may be the result of the editing rather than the writing. Of course, some of what bothers me almost surely is the writers' fault. For example, Demir's extreme jealousy and distrust of Mercan. ¡Ya basta!

I too have a hard time sympathizing with Asu, even though I do feel sorry for her difficult childhood. And every now and then she does seem to be growing fond of Oyku. But still....

I was interested that you, too, are trying to prepare yourself for heartbreak. I tend to have an overactive imagination of disaster, and I try to remind myself of this, but given that the telenovela still has a way to go before it ends, and given Ugur's overconfident statements, it seems highly likely that my overactive imagination may be right. Especially since you, too, are feeling pessimistic. How could we not, given Cemal's springing Jilet from prison to bring down Demir and Ugur? But, as I said in my remark to Rgv Chick, I'm not going to dwell on any of that today, for reasons that are probably obvious (and can't be discussed on this blog).

Juanita, I had a much better day today than the characters in Hija. I'll probably have a better week, too.

Thanks, Juanita, for the excellent recap!

Enjoyed the subtle hints about happiness today, a sentiment I share!

I also share the feeling that Oyku may try to "save" her mother and choose her. But, if that happens, I will be disgusted. It makes NO sense that Oyku, who is only 8 years old, would put herself at risk of living with such a train wreck.

They have been vague or else my memory is vague about exactly how the money left to Oyku would be managed. Cemal seemed to think they'd get their hands on the money and dump Oyku in an orphanage. Last night Asu's lawyer said something about Demir wanting custody to get the money. Surely that clever father of Asu would have set up an ironclad trust preventing such things from happening.

I am starting to feel a bit sorry for Asu. She is obviously a raging alcoholic. Persons with that illness often do self-sabotage, such as the way Asu created a scene and ended up in jail a week before the custody hearing. I wonder if scenes of Cemal's reaction to all this were also cut. It surely seems like he'd have been furious.

HIJA

Once in a while I get some wild ideas and I got one spinning around my head. WHAT IF--Oyku tells the judge that she would prefer to live with CANDAN!! Her goal--

1) to get Demir and Candan together (I keep remembering Oyku's dream about their marriage)
2) to motivate Demir and Asu to get the crap together. Demir is out of a job (which I'm sure that Oyku suspects) and Asu really needs to clean herself up physically and emotionally.

Now that would be an interesting twist :-)

Hija

Not such a wild idea, Rgv Chick. Anything can happen in a TN.

I don’t know if they have a foster care system in Turkey, but it’s been mentioned a couple of times that Oyku can’t stay with anyone who is not a blood relative.

IIRC, Candan once told Murat she was thinking of adopting Oyku and she wanted his advice. That’s when he accused her of trying to replace Seda. If things get worse for Demir and Asu, I wouldn’t be surprised if Candan brings up adoption again. No idea what Oyku would think about it.

Wow, more comments! Thanks very much, novelera. Good question about the specifics of the will. I tried to find the episode where Asu and Cemal discuss this early on, but I didn't succeed. I'm pretty sure they did discuss this, but all I remember is that Oyku will get the money when she turns 18. Until then, IIRC, it's in Asu's control (which probably means Asu and Cemal's control).

Rgv Chick, I love your idea about Oyku possibly choosing to live with Candan (not that the choice has been presented to her). However, I think dondi356 has discussed this well in her response to your idea. From what she has said, it doesn't seem possible unless Candan actually adopts Oyku. Complications, complications, and more complications (but I guess that's a good description of most telenovelas :-)    ).
