La Suerte de Loli - #48 – parte 1 de 2

This will be brief. I have to get up early tomorrow.

From #47 – Miércoles Vicente tells Karen maybe it’s better if she stays at Global Radio to keep him informed. Rafa walks in on Vicente proposing to Paulina. Loli has a rather testy coffee date with Salvador. He tells her he hasn’t fallen in love with anyone in 10 years because nadie llegaba a sus talones (nobody ever even reached the heels of her feet). Karen finds out about Salvador and Loli and asks Rafa if he’s reluctant to hire Salvador for business reasons or because of Loli.

Rafa tells Karen that Salvador doesn’t seem that reliable and that he isn’t flexible about what hours to work.

Mati walks up to Rox, who’s just listening to a pleading call from Cesar. She tells him: ¡No estes husmeando donde nadie ha llamado! (Don’t keep sticking your nose into others’ business.)

Joaquin’s father, who made him quit the play he and Jess had been rehearsing, shows up at school. You can see he’s a bully from a mile off. [I haven’t been sure if Jess and Joaquin were trying out for Don Juan and Doña Ines or had already been chosen for the roles.]

Octavio and Nicky are practicing some Hunky Bar dance moves. Nicky asks about Octavio’s parents. Octo says that his father is Argentinian and his mother Mexican. He thinks they might be in Mexico, but he’s not sure. Octavio is about to tell Nicky the truth about not being his father when Nora interrupts. She’s been eavesdropping. She tells Octo Nicky is too young to hear this.

Lupe overhears Karen talking over a dinner date and butts in to offer to make reservations. She assumes it’s with Rafa and has to back away when that’s not the case.

Sam has come to visit Gabriel. He gives her a wooden carving of Nicky’s name that he’s made. Sam has somehow arranged for Gabriel to get a weekend pass from the place he’s staying.

Mati is talking to Jack about Selma: how she’s doing and some medication to pick up. After Mati leaves the room Arturo sets something up with one Lorenzo.

Mel and Bruno are making good use of the fancy oven Bruno bought. She was furious at him the day before, but now it seems that Rox has mentioned Melissa’s Cupcakes on the radio and they have a lot of orders. Carol shows up, being a brat as always. There’s a bunch of neighbors who’ve just shown up wanting cupcakes.

It turns out Art doesn’t have a date. Lorenzo shows up at their house. He’s a fancy wedding planner who supposedly arranged Salma Hayek’s wedding. Selma comes unglued thinking the planner is there to plan a wedding for Arturo’s father. She chases the guy out. But before that we see that Art and Mati have VERY different ideas about a wedding/renewal of vows.

La Suerte de Loli - #48 – parte 2 de 2

Loli and Domingo have an emotional scene at home. Apparently they’ve come from a therapy session. Loli is crying and tells Domingo how she missed him when he disappeared. They embrace. He promises never to leave her again.

Vicente, Pau, and Jessica are having an uncomfortable dinner at that loooong dining table at Pau’s house. Vicente tells Jess that they are going to get married. Jess rushes out of the room. Pau follows. Vicente shows his usual lack of morals and answers Pau’s phone. It’s Adán from Hunky Bar, although he just says he’s a friend. Pau sort of stammers that he’s someone who wants an interview.

Loli tells Domingo about Octavio not being Nicky’s father. She goes on to wonder if her problems with men and perhaps her anger toward Octavio are because of what Domingo did. And she wonders if she’s judging Octavio too harshly.

Lupe can’t resist telling Rafa about Karen’s mysterious dinner. It turns out the dinner is with Salvador. Last episode Karen told Rafa she’d handle getting Salvador on board. She pours on the flattery and says she won’t leave this place without convincing him. She puts an amount on a piece of paper, and he tears it up.

Domingo tells Nora that he’s lied to Loli for a long time now. He’s not her biological father. [At least one of you predicted this.] He says he found out the truth when Rocío was dying (Loli’s mother, I presume).

Cupcakes are sold to the whole neighborhood. Carol has calmed down because she’s getting a commission.

Loli finds out at breakfast that Sam is going to the Billie Eilish concert with Rafa and Karen.

Last episode we saw that La Divina Gonce was a big success introducing the strippers, and Octavio told Apolo that he has a great sense of what customers like. Said Gonce surprises Octavio as Roberto, and Octavio doesn’t recognize him. Octavio talks to Roberto/Divina about fostering Gabriel. Roberto/Divina wants 10 kilos of brilliantine (?).

Roberto/Divina shows up in Rafa’s office at Global Radio, with Karen already seated there. He spills the beans about his having shared a cell with Loli. And Karen’s jaw drops.

Thanks very much, novelera, for this very fine recap. I loved the Spanish phrases that you included. I'm so glad you do this. I almost always find them interesting and helpful.

I loved the scene with Octavio teaching dance moves to Nicky, who catches on fast. I confess that I was disappointed that Nora prevented Octavio from telling Nicky that he isn't his bio dad. I'd really like Nicky to know the truth sooner rather than later...unless, of course, the truth is that Octavio really is his bio dad, and the lab or the sperm bank or whatever made an error. I guess time will tell.

Lupe really is a piece of work. I have no idea why they keep her on at Global Radio, since she seems to spend 90% of her time creating or spreading gossip.

When Arturo called Lorenzo right after speaking with Mati, I assumed Lorenzo was someone he was attracted to. I was relieved to find out that he was a wedding planner, though a rather obnoxious one.

Speaking of obnoxious, Carol still gets under my skin. Yes, she's helping her parents sell the cupcakes, but she tells them that she's willing to help them again the next day, as long as they pay her.

You say that "Selma comes unglued thinking the planner is there to plan a wedding for Arturo’s father," but I thought that in her dementia Selma believes that Arturo is her husband. I think it's not the first time she has said that.

Yes, that certainly is a "loooong dining table" at Pau’s house. It probably suggests the distance between Pau and the men in her life.

I was pleased when Domingo told Nora that he's not Loli's biological father, since yes, I did suggest that (though I think dondi356 may also have had that idea). Domingo then has a flashback to the scene where he finds out: he comes into the dying Rocio's room just as she is telling another man who is standing by her bedside that he is Loli's father, not Domingo. I think it's highly likely that the man she has just spoken to is Don Rogelio, though we don't see his face, and of course he was much younger (and probably thinner) then. Nora asks Domingo whether Rocio told him who the father is, and Domingo says no. I guess he's not lying, since Rocio told the other man, not Domingo.

loli

In my rush to get something up I probably wasn't clear, Juanita. I did realize that Selma had once again thought Arturo was her dead husband.

Loli

novelera, thanks so much for a great recap done under time pressure.

I was so ready for that tearjerker scene when Octavio was going to tell Nicky the truth.

How the heck does a teenage girl get a kid a weekend pass from the shelter all on her own?

I was over Salvatore even before it started. Why don’t they pair him up with Karen and they can ride off into the sunset together?

I liked La Divina’s act on stage.

Loli’s gonna hate Don Rogelio if it turns out he’s her bio dad. Domingo lied to Nora on a “technicality”.

I laughed when Loli said she learned to hate men. She sure likes jumping into bed with them. Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that.

I don’t know why Octavio gets such blame and anger for lying. I know there was a point where he discovered the truth. But there are extenuating circumstances. He’s a victim of the sperm bank fiasco. He’s heartbroken. Give the guy a break.

We are on the same page, Juanita! I like what you said about Pau’s "loooong dining table". We both had the thought of Rogelio being involved with Loli’s mom and being Loli’s dad. We both want Octavio to be the bio dad of Sam or Nicky. How about the bio dad of both of them? Is that pushing it too far? Seems some of our theories will be correct.

I always pray that Lupe won’t show up in an episode I’m recapping. I have a visceral reaction to that character. It hurts to watch her. Keeping my fingers crossed for tonight’s recap!

dondi356

loli

Wow, dondi356, we are ABSOLUTELY on the same page!! Including your pushing-too-far suggestion that Octavio may be the bio dad of both Sam and Nicky. I made a similar suggestion in a comment several episodes ago, where I said "And speaking of being reluctant to give up on an idea, I'm still holding out a slight bit of hope for Octavio being the bio dad of Nicky and/or Sam."

Not surprisingly, I feel the same way you do about Lupe. If she has the nerve to appear in your episode tonight, just remember that FF>> is the recapper's friend. :-)

That Carol is something.

I can't imagine paying my kids (adults now) to do something they should do for free in order to keep a roof over their head and food on the table.

Do y'all think this is right?

Novelera

I'm with Dondi356 about your inclusion of Spanish phrases.

I couple of years ago, I came across this one, and it still bothers me that I really don't know the right translation.

"a quién le da pan que llore"

equivalent in English could be:

“Never refuse a good offer”. Or
"Never look a gift horse in the mouth".

That makes no sense in English to me. WTH would someone look inside a horse's mouth for the fun of it?

However, this is the best translation I've found so far.

. It means an offense. In Mexico it is used relative to a man/woman relationship. When a woman offers herself to a man, he takes her; and he says "A quién le dan pan que llore", meaning that he might like her or not but he will always take the opportunity to have "free bread". This is a phrase mostly used by machos when they are refering to "mujeres

Loli #49 part 1

Roberto (Divina) apologizes to Loli. He thought everyone knew. Lupe has the info and makes a quick exit. We know what she’s gonna do with it. Loli explains she was just detained; that’s different. When did it happen Karen asks. She does the two plus two, ah when Loli disappeared. Loli hurries Divina out of Rafa’s office before more damage is done. Rafa explains the situation to Karen. Karen is ticked. She says St. Rafael went to Loli’s rescue. Rafa changes the subject. Let’s talk about the concert.

Pau talks to Adan. She wants to know how he got her number. You gave it to me at the bar, remember? No, she was very drunk. So everything you said about getting me a job at the station was just talk? Pau is sorry she can’t remember saying that. Besides she can’t help him since she no longer works at the station.

Adan doesn’t really care about that, he just wants to see her. Pau tells him it’s not going to happen because she’s engaged and getting married after divorce is final. Adan confesses that he really likes her and he wants to be with her. Vicente shows up while she’s on the phone and pretends shes making a salon appointment.

Rox and TC are doing the show. They are asks listeners to call in with childhood stories. Cesar calls in. Rox pretends she can’t hear him. TC can hear him loud and clear. He talks about his issue with being undocumented, the marriage, etc. TC says the marriage for the status was wrong but has sympathy because his family also came to the US undocumented. And we get a speech on immigration. Cesar wants to know what to do about Rox. He suggests they calm down and talk it over. He says if she gives you a second chance, make sure you respect and value her. She’s one of a kind.

Roberto tells Loli that Octavio hired him. He says did you know he wants to be a foster parent for Gabe and his sister? And btw he’s very upset about Nicky. Roberto says he was on Loli’s team when they were in jail but now he’s—Team Octavio. He’s a great guy. Loli’s not on board. Roberto realizes that some girls are Team Rafa. What? She used to be but not anymore. Rafa is seeing someone else. He sees through Loli. She was practically drooling over Rafa. Roberto suggests Loli should go to the concert, too. Loli says no, but is she considering?

Lupe has info to share. Loli was detained, the owner’s son was fired and the VP is a cuckold. Loli takes the cake. She was detained, her father is a gambler and her quasi BIL is a convict. Lupe still wants to find out why Loli was in jail. Mel shows up with cupcakes and thinks they were talking about Bruno being in jail. Mel’s ready to sell cupcakes but they treat her like a pariah and ditch her. I hate these women, especially Lupe. And Paloma should have learned her lesson after being the victim of a vicious rumor!

Mel brings cupcakes to Rox and TC. She thanks them for the promotion. She wants a favor but is interrupted by Mati.

Rogelio is with Nora. Hes talking but she’s preoccupied. He asks. She babbles and apologizes. What is worrying you, he asks. She tells him it’s about Domingo. Uh oh. Loli and Domingo. She wants to tell him but decides she can’t because it’s very personal. Rogelio tries to coax it out of her. He’s willing to listen. She keeps going back and forth on it. She almost tells a couple of times but finally says it’s for Loli and Domingo to tell if they want you to know. Rogelio hopes it isn’t anything serious. He wouldn’t want Loli to get hurt.

dondi356

Loli #49 part 2

Loli speaks with Octavio and says Roberto/Divina stopped by. She spoke highly of you and told me about the foster parent thing. Can she help? No thanks. Loli tells him Nora mentioned he almost told Nicky the truth. She warns him not to do it. That’s something she is going to do. Octavio thinks he should be the one to tell since he lied. Loli tells Octavio he won’t be the one around to comfort Nicky. She is asking him for the boy’s sake. She says, Gabe and his sister would be lucky to have you as a father.

Rafa is pleased that Rox and TC get along so well now. Mel barges into their meeting and takes selfies to send to her cupcake clients. I think that’s what she’s doing.

TC tells Rox to give Cesar another chance.

Karen continues her spy work for Vic. She offered Sal a ton of money but he didn’t take the deal. He wants to stick with his podcast. Vic asks if she’s got any other info. She says clients are anxious. Vic vows to ruin Global. He wants to steal all the clients and all the talent away from them. Karen will keep him informed.

Pau shows up at Hunky Bar to see Adan. She came to settle things with him. She thinks he doesn’t understand she has said no. He understands but doesn’t want to accept it. She tells him I could be uour mother or your aunt. All Adan sees is a woman whose kiss drove him crazy. An interesting and pretty woman. He pours it on. And a woman who is wrong about him because she thinks I like her for money or fame. He wants her to take the opportunity to get to know him. He asks are you scared to fall in love with me?

Roberto comes in and recognizes Paulina Castro. He makes silly conversation. Pau takes this interruption as a chance to leave and tells Adan please don’t call me again. Roberto asks if is she the reason Adan was feeling blue last night. Yes. Sweetie you aim high, he says.

Mel is selling pics of Rox and TC with the cupcakes. Someone wants a lock of TC’s hair. The customers make ridiculous requests. Bruno reproaches them. He asks them to back off. Melissa works hard for them and she is pregnant. They can have a free cupcake instead. That seems to work.

Sal found Domingo at the casino and brought him to Global. Domingo is sorry for the millionth time. Loli leaves to bring her dad home. Sal tags along.

Mel and Bruno are cleaning up selling the cupcakes. Two health inspectors show up. They say Mel and Bruno don’t have permits and will have to be shut down.

Rox and TC are out having coffee. She thanks him for talking to Cesar this morning. Rox has reservations because she’s worried that if you lied about the marriage thing, he could be keeping even more secrets. Rox is hesitant about taking a chance. TC tells her he has experience. Tomorrow may never come. You have to live in the present. Rox says they hated each other in the beginning but now it’s like they are lifelong friends. TC leaves gets distracted by Rox’s goodbye and gets hit by a car!

Loli, Sal and Domingo come home. Loli thanks Sal for helping with her father. Sal is surprised to find Loli has two kids. There’s so much he doesn’t know about her. He makes a move. Will you let me get to know you again? Will you let me win your heart all over again? Loli pushes him away, are you stupid? Things changed on Aug 3 at 1pm. Sal regrets letting such an amazing woman go. Loli gets a call from Mati. Send the hospital address, I’ll be there. TC was run over. She leaves Domingo with Nicky. And tosses Sal out.

dondi356

Loli #49 part 3

Vic is with Pau while Jess is at the concert. If he had his way, he would be there every night. Vic teases about Karen, tickets to the concert, maybe an autographed picture and pretty soon Jess will call her mom. Vic asks about the guy who called earlier, what’s his name? Adan. Did he call you back? Do you know where he works? Vic says he can get rid of him if he bothers Pau.

Vic gets the message that TC was hit by a car. He laughs and calls it karma. Pau asks and you’re happy? No, the poor guy. it just thrills him to know Global is sinking without him. Karma, he repeats.

Divina is doing her thing on stage and introduces Dr. Romeo. The bar is doing well. Octavio’s girlfriends show up. Octavio is ready to go.

The health dept takes away the cupcake oven. They tell Mel and Bruno they will get it back as soon as they pay the fine. Mel gets hysterical.

Octavio takes a break from the ladies. Uh, oh. He had a problem achieving lift off. The girls tell him, not to worriy it happens sometimes. Yes, but it’s never happened to Octavio before. They think he’s in love. Octavio emphatically denies it. Will you punish us, the girls say? They are all over him. Ok, he will punish them and they head back to the bedroom.

Domingo had the relapse because he’s worried about telling Loli. He talks with Nora about how to tell Loli. Rip off the bandage, Nora says. She will be hurt but she will get over it. She is a victim of what her mother did, and Domingo is, too. He’s worried about losing her.

Selma talks with her son. She thinks Mati is a nice boy. She says they make a nice couple. They love each other very much. Art thinks she is referring to him and Mati but she says Mati and Jack. What? Selma asks isn’t that his husband?

Bruno and Mel are in bed. What are they going to do now? They review options He gets up from bed to think.

TC is bandaged from head to toe.[how ridiculous] Rox comes in and asks him for forgiveness. He wants a favor. Scratch his foot!

At breakfast Loli says TC will be fine. Sam had a great time at the concert and Nicky wants to go rehearse with his dad. Sam asks Doming how he’s doing. He admits his relapse. Sam wishes she could help him. She would help her dad if she knew who he was. Domingo knows he must speak with Loli.

Breakfast at Bruno’s. Carol is upset because Jess posted a ton of pics from the concert. Bruno and Mel will forge ahead, and continue making cupcakes in their tiny oven. Carol sees the news about TC.

Rox talks about TC on her show and how he warmed his way into her heart. In such a short time, he became very important to her. She asks listeners to pray for his speedy recovery. With all that’s happened, she decides to make a call to Cesar. A friend told me to call you and give you another chance, she tells him.

Sal is at the hospital and brings Rogelio coffee. Rogelio thinks Sal is trying to apologize and he won’t listen. Sal’s not apologizing. What he did was out of conviction. He believed in what he was doing. Sal says he explained this to Loli and apologized to her. And how did that go?

Rogelio says Loli is the strongest woman he ever met. He only saw her break twice. Once when Sal dumped her on the air and the other when Mari died and left her with the two children. Sal is surprised those are Mari’s kids. Loli made him think they were hers.

Maybe she has her reasons, Rogelio says, but they are none of your business. Sal wants Rogelio to listen. But Rogelio say Sal needs to listen. He doesn’t know why Sal is here, but he warns him to stay away from the radio station and from Loli. I won’t let you hurt anyone, he tells Sal.

And we are out.

Sorry for leaving out details. I thought this was an awful epidsode. If I wasn't recapping I would have FF'd through at least 80% of it.

To Victoria's question "Do y'all think this is right?": I know you were asking about paying kids for something they should do. But very little is right in this show.

dondi356

loli

Well, dondi356, I've finally found something you can't do. Even when you hate an episode, you can't manage to write a bad recap! You cover everything worth covering. And I loved your delightful line: "[Octavio] had a problem achieving lift off."

I totally agree with you about Lupe and her fellow gossips. And you're so right that "Paloma should have learned her lesson after being the victim of a vicious rumor!" If it were up to me, I'd fire them all. One competent and responsible person could accomplish more for Global Radio than all the gossips put together. And do less harm.

The scene when the health inspectors took away the oven was way over the top ludicrous: Mel's hysteria, crying, calling the oven by name, and saying it was one of the family. Actually, in that family, the oven might have been the most talented member! However, Bruno apparently did have one bright idea. When the customers were unhappy at not being given the promised strands of TC's hair, Bruno offers them each one cupcake, and I think he says if they don't like it, they don't have to buy a box and the cup is free. To my surprise, after eating the free cupcake each of them winds up handing over money to pay for their boxes.

Wow, it's been evident all along that Vicente is a [expletives deleted], but last night's episode hammered that point home. First, Vicente says he wants to destroy Global Radio and prove to his father that he was wrong to fire him, and then when TC gets hit by a car, Vicente is delighted and calls it karma.

I found Adan quite appealing last night. I'm not talking about his being a gorgeous hunk (though I certainly found that appealing, too!). But when he looked at Pau, he seemed totally enchanged, starry-eyed. As you make clear, he wants her to get to know him. Not as a stripper. He tells her that when he's with her, he's not a stripper, and he's not interested in her because she's rich and famous. I found myself wondering whether a lasting relationship between the two of them might indeed develop. She'd be much better off with him than with Vile Vicente.

I was a little surprised that Nora held back from telling Don Rogelio about Domingo not being Loli's father. She's clearly very tempted to do so, especially since Don R keeps encouraging her, but restraint wins the day.

Am I wrong, or was it Apolo who arranged for the two girls to be at the bar? Apolo used to be one of my favoite characters, but he's become increasingly unsupportive of Octavio's good nature, so I'm no longer on Team Apolo.

dondi356, I think last night's episode, lame as it was, did provide more fodder for our theory about Octavio and fatherhood. First, as you mention, Sam says to Domingo that she would help her dad if she knew who he was. A needless line unless she is going to find out who he is. And then the episode ends with Don Rogelio really lighting into Salvador, telling him to get lost and not do anything to hurt Loli. The vehemence with which Don R says all this is how a father might respond. :-)

Does anyone know what the deal is with the upcoming novela 'La suerte de Ada' with Adamari López, who's only claim to fame, IMHO, was being married to Luis Fonsi before he remade himself into the gangster look.

It is suppose to be a story within Global Radio, with Vicente, so I don't get it.

Have a glorious day, Telemundo Patio! HAPPY EASTER!! 💐🌷🌹

Loli

Thank you so very much, Juanita, for adding much needed color to my uninspired recap. Simply wonderful!

Really liked: “Actually, in that family, the oven might have been the most talented member!” So true.

I think Octavio asked Apolo if he called the girls, but he didn’t give a straight up answer, just that he’d take care of the business for the night. And Apolo has turned into a bit of a nag.

And, yes, there is still some hope for our “crockpot theories”.

Happy Easter to all who celebrate.

dondi356

loli

Dondi, I was thinking of you Friday evening as we got a really good dollop of Lupe, with a side of Paloma and the other two idiots. You had hoped not to have a Lupe scene, and your hopes were dashed! These women are a disgrace. They mostly fawn over Rafa and were fawning over Vicente until he got the axe, no matter how rudely he treated them. But...Loli...they can't wait to dish the dirt about a woman who's risen to be a Vice President by working hard and having good ideas.

As Juanita said, even having to recap that high percentage of idiocy, you did a sterling job on the recap.

I also was gobsmacked that the HEALTH DEPARTMENT confiscated "Horny". I could see consequences for selling food without having received a permit and the premises being checked for cleanliness, etc. But...taking the oven was ridiculous, almost as ridiculous as Melissa's sobs as it was moved out.

Carol just doesn't disappoint, does she? She was green with envy about Jessica's social media pictures, ones that probably included her cousin Sam. And, when she groused that Jess would become more popular, her enabling mother chimed in that her darling would always be the most popular. Not a word about how the girl should get over herself already.

I enjoyed Paulina's disapproving look at Vicente when he chortled over Terrible having been hit by a truck. Please, please, writers, have her dump him for Adán. And I wish she'd show more of a spine around the creep. His questioning about Adán, after picking up and answering her phone (this alone raised my blood pressure), was infuriating. Why don't telenovela characters ever listen to me? Pau should have said: Who calls me and whose calls I return are none of your business.

Sigh. Domingo fell off the wagon again. Besides Salvador, Domingo is the most unlikeable new addition to the cast. And why did they have to put the most likeable addition, Terrible Cortez, in the hospital. And just when I was enjoying his and Rox's show.
