La Suerte de Loli - #53 – Parte 1 de 3

We return to the meeting in the conference room about the Latin Music Festival. Loli looks pointedly at Rafa and tells him she can work with whoever she chooses. Salvador says that he knows Global Radio better than Rafa. Don Rogelio says that the festival should be in the hands of Loli, Karen, and Rafa, the three Vice Presidents.

The board member (Rufino) disagrees. He says Loli is the GR expert and Salvador knows all of the musicians. [Hmm. If Salvador is such a hot shot, how come Loli has been completely unaware of El Renegado (the renegade or rebel) for 10 years?] After the others leave, Rogelio tells Rafa that he likes Salvador’s ideas, but doesn’t want him near Loli.

While Rox mentions missing Terrible and goes to a commercial break, Lupe comes in, calling her Roxtar, very excited. [Too much Lupe this episode!] She says that there’s a woman here who wants to see Rox…about Cesar. Yep, it’s Dulce. While all the gossips run to the waiting area, mouths agape, Dulce tells everyone at the top of her lungs that Rox is una rompehogares (home wrecker). Rox tells her to shut it.

Enjoying herself quite a lot, Pau chats with Angie over the phone about the dinner the night before and about Adán. When Vicente walks in, Pau congratulates Angie on her “boyfriend”. Vicente says they were fine, but not people he’d want to spend a lot of time with. “It’s a good thing you don’t have these juvenile passions.”

Octavio has come to the youth center to talk with Gabriel. Gabe is pretty sad. Octavio tells him that he’s going to help them, even if he can’t foster them.

Dulce continues to berate Rox at GR. Rox tells her that, if she ever shows up at her workplace again, she’ll call the police. And then she calls Security, who hustle Dulce into the elevator.

We find out that the contact Vicente still has at GR, that he mentioned to Karen, is Rufino, the board member. Vicente asks him to keep pushing for Loli and Salvador to work together. No, no, Vicente says, it’s not for me; it’s a favor for someone. [Karen, of course]

Loli and Salvador are in her office. While she’s efficiently preparing a list of tasks for the festival, he does…nada, just gazing at her. Rafa pokes his head in and right behind him Octavio, wanting to talk with Loli. A solas he tells Salvador, when he doesn’t get up

While Rox is yelling at Cesar over the phone about Dulce, the four wastes of space peer over her cubicle listening. When she hangs up they tell her they’d be delighted to be a way for her to desahogarse (get things off her chest). Rox tells them to get lost.

While Loli and Octavio talk about the sad situation with Gabe and Christie, Mati comes in and says that, while he and Art have been trying to adopt, they could try to get a license to be foster parents for Gabriel and Christie. Octavio is overjoyed and embraces Mati.

La Suerte de Loli - #53 – Parte 2 de 3

Adán is in the dressing room at Hunky Bar with a towel around his waist. Pau comes in. He’s surprised and drops the towel. [Sadly, there’s a lamp in the foreground.] She’s come to ask him not to show up at her house any more. He hints that, now that Vicente thinks he’s with Angie, they could still… She tells him she’s not up for any secret love affairs and that she’s trying to be happy. Adán looks at her closely and says that his line of work has taught him what happy women look like, and she’s not happy with Vicente.

Bruno and Felipe talk at breakfast. Felipe says he used to have a good job that paid well. He decided to stop doing that job that paid so well. And he then spent his savings. When Bruno asked why he’d leave such a good job, Felipe tells him that the work was dangerous.

Carol, with that smug face she wears unless she is looking at Jess’s Facebook page, shows Mel the picture she found of Felipe. He’s wanted for robbing banks. And…there’s a $20K reward for his capture.

It’s the big night at the high school, the presentation of Don Juan Tenorio. Rafa and Karen arrive and greet Vicente and Pau. Rafa snarks about the happy family being reunited. Loli is also there. When they are about to go in, Salvador rushes up, saying he loves theater. Loli refuses to take his arm.

It turns out Art didn’t really agree about the fostering. He tells Mati that what’s bothering him is becoming fond of Gabriel and Christie and then losing them.

After the performance Pau invites everyone over to celebrate. At Pau’s house, Loli isn’t happy and Rafa keeps pasting on a wide false smile. Karen wasn’t able to come to the celebration. Salvador notices that Loli is constantly eating, something he remembers her doing when she was nervous. Loli: “What, me? Nervous?" She brings him up to speed about Rafa and Vicente, Karen and Rafa, etc.

Pau suggests a fun game of Verdad o Reto (Truth or Dare). [Is she nuts? With this group?]

Salvador says that Loli loves retos (challenges). Rafa to Salvador: “And that’s why she decided to work with you on the festival.” As part of the game Rafa asks Loli if she hates anyone at the table. [Mentally Loli says ¡a todos!".

Sam, Jess and Joaquín are in Jess’s bedroom. Sam tells them how good they were. Sam gets a text from Gabriel. Jess grabs the phone and says she wants to know all. Sam agrees to tell her.

Vicente is in the kitchen and on the phone with Karen, wearing a nasty smile. He tells her he wishes she were here; it’s just getting good. He also tells her to buy a Main of Honor dress because Loli and Salvador are going to end up together. “You owe me!” [As if Loli would choose Karen!]

Pau comes up behind Vicente and overhears his conversation. He tells Karen that it’s almost time for her to leave Global Radio. “I did you a favor getting Salvador into GR, and now you’re going to leave GR certain that Rafa and Loli will never be together. I still have friends in el consejo (the board). I am doing this to sink them and also so you’ll come to work for me.” Pau walks away stony faced. Vicente never knew she was there.

La Suerte de Loli - #53 – Parte 3 de 3

Sam tells Jess and Joaquín all about Gabriel. Jess offers to talk to her mother to see if Pau could help.

Mati convinces Art to try to be foster parents while still trying to adopt a baby or younger child.

Melissa and Bruno have spent the night at the foot of their bed, where Felipe snores away. Melissa thinks he could escape, while Bruno reminds her he has to help him use the bathroom. They each think the other one called the FBI.

Rox is at home yelling at Cesar for the scene Dulce caused at GR. The doorbell rings. It’s Dulce. Rox tells Cesar she invited Dulce. She sits the two of them down, saying she doesn’t believe in lawyers. She asks Dulce if she really wants to stay married to a man who doesn’t love her. “You’re young, pretty, and deserve someone who’s crazy about you.” She turns to Cesar. “You took advantage of the legal status of your friend to get residency. You have to do something to repay her. How many years of her life did you take?” She shoos them out, saying she has a morning show, and they need to work things out.

Paulina tells Loli she’s over what happened with Rafa and she wants them to be friends.

When Jess asks her mother about Karen, she replies that she wants Rafa to be happy. But she’s just not sure Karen is the right one. [Doubtless after hearing the phone call]

Nora gets her digs in at Domingo for not having told Loli. She tells him that, if he doesn’t, she’ll do it herself.

Nicky tells Loli at breakfast that he forgot to say that he needs a lot of things for Art class that very day!.

Loli gets a letter that she reads over the phone to Octavio. It’s something about Octavio Córdoba having renounced his paternity. They agree they’ll have to tell Nicky.

Mel and Bruno have fallen asleep at the foot of the bed.

Mati comes to tell Loli about he and Art having decided to apply to be foster parents.

Karen tells Rafa that Loli and Salvador are busy with the festival (at least one of them is), and the presidency is still vacant. She tells him he’s a leader, has all the qualities necessary, and she’s going to help.

Melissa and Bruno finally call the Feds, and then hear sirens. Melissa is impressed with how quickly they came! Carol was the one who called. Felipe is brought out in his wheelchair. The agent tells Carol what a great thing she did. Carol is the one getting the reward! She starts to gloat about all the things she’ll buy and runs off impatiently when Bruno tries to tell her it was a family effort.

Loli is working with Salvador; that is to say, Loli is working…Salvador…nada. When he gets annoyed with several employees coming in, he suggests taking a break and going somewhere to relax. When she refuses, he tells her she’s not like she used to be, not spontaneous anymore. Loli can’t resist this dig and says she’s spontaneous and off they go. ¡Ay, Loli!

loli

Thanks so much, novelera, for this terrific recap. You covered everything, and I always appreciate the Spanish you include. My favorite this time was una rompehogares. And I loved your asides and all the snark, especially "the four wastes of space peer over her cubicle listening."

I strongly agree that the episode had too much Lupe. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, any Lupe is too much, but this was really too much. Though I did enjoy her calling Rox Roxtar/Rock star.)

I burst out laughing when I read your response to Pau's suggestion that the aged teenagers play Truth or Dare ("[Is she nuts? With this group?]"). I laughed because I thought exactly the same thing.

And your ¡Ay Loli! at the end was my feeling as well. That somersault to prove she's spontaneous was more than I could take.

Each episode seems to show Pau becoming less and less sure that she should marry Vicente. I wonder how that's going to play out.

Loli
Super funny recap on this Friday novelera! Your comments are spot on (Hmm. If Salvador is such a hot shot, how come Loli has been completely unaware of El Renegado (the renegade or rebel) for 10 years?] I am wondering the same thing.

I agree with you and Juanita, way to much Lupe!

Salvador is a definite nada all across the board, I wish Loli would learn to set better boundaries.

Why in the heck did everyone go to Paulina’s house after the play? It was never going to be a fun time. Did Rafa go without Karen just to be with Loli? Did Karen slip in some Tibetan tea in the tequila?

I am glad Paulina got a taste of Vicente’s nastiness. Her continued seeking out of Adan does make it clear that her “no” means “yes” or at least potentially “no” to Chente.

Dang that big green chair covering up for the dropped Adan towel!

Octavio continues to be the bright spot for me in this story. The way he hugged Mati for considering being a foster parent to Gabe and Christe was so genuine.

How ridiculous that a $20k reward is going to minor! Bruno and Mel are just stupid.

I actually liked Rox and her mediation session with Dulce and Cesar. She did a better job than Karen has to date!

Thanks so much novelera!

Ok guys, for only the second time in my telenovela watching years, oh rather decades, I'm hanging the towel up on this one. This novela has gone beyond the point of silly to downright stupid, boring, unbelievable, etc., etc., IMHO.

I've only stayed with it for so long because of Octavio. But the addition of Karen, and now Salvador (sleaze bag), is just too much.

Thankfully I'll have all your great recaps to delight in and can check-in / comment as warranted.

Luckily, I came across 'Las vias del amor' while hunting for the Guy Ecker version of 'Café con aroma de mujer' (still hunting), and that's keeping me entertained. A young Gabriel Soto and Jorge Salinas are a delight to spend my time with while something better than LSDL comes along.

Loli #54 part 1

This episode was sliced and diced. Bits and pieces. People teleporting from place to place. Hope I can make some sense out of it.

We start with a ping pong match at Global between Rafa and Karen. The Gossip Girls have a ring side seat. Is this one of Karen’s job coaching exercises? She quietly takes Rafa aside and tells him he’s got the strength, the technique and the drive but he needs the focus. Why have everything and not reach for the stars, she says. Ah, the presidency, he says. Correcto, she replies. They keep having whispering conversations between the points. She tells him, now all he needs someone on his team, someone like him. I don’t know who could that be? Do I really care?

Pau and Angie talk. Pau tells her she couldn’t believe what she heard last night. It’s Karen, Angie asks? What will you do? This is sensitive. Will you tell Vicente? No, she doesn’t want to do that yet. She wants to see what’s on his mind and how far he would go to destroy Global. Pau is worried about Rafa, though. Karen is lying to him. Angie thinks Pau should tell him, otherwise he will stay with that bitch who’s a spy.

Anyway, Pau called Angie for a favor. Whose girlfriend do I have to be now? Pau laughs, no it’s not for me. It’s for Jessica. Guessing it’s about Gabe and Chris.

At Hunky Bar, Apolo is commenting on some women celebrating a birthday. He thinks they are here early because they are hiding something. Octavio doesn’t care, he is distracted . Loli and I are going to tell Nicky, he says to Apolo. One of the birthday customers faints. She’s pale, but she’s breathing.

Rox is doing her show. She’s talking about adoption for older kids. They spend years in the foster care system. They deserve to have a family. Open your hearts and think about it. Open your doors to kids like Gabriel and Christi.

She takes a caller. Yes, people should adopt. The problem is when they take advantage of you and don’t think about your feelings. You give them 5 years of your life and then they leave you for someone else. Uh, oh, it’s Dulce. She takes another caller who says the previous caller doesn’t understand I don’t love her. Uh, oh, this is Cesar. Rox says, let’s play some music and we will be back with adoptions and not matrimonial issues. Rox is angry with both Dulce and Cesar. Mati apologizes to Rox for letting them through. She tells Mati these two are getting on her nerves.

Angie comes in to thank Rox. Paulina will be happy. Mati asks what’s going on and Rox fills him in on the favor. Pau asked me to talk about Gabe and Christi. Angie says, Pau would do it if she still had her show. Rox tells her to drop it. She did the favor and is glad Pau had good intentions.

Mati questions why Rox is helping Pau. She’s not. She’s helping Jessica, who’s Pau’s daughter, who’s Sam’s friend, who’s Gabriel’s girlfriend. Basically, she’s helping Loli keep the peace in her house.

Octavio is tending to the passed out customer in the backroom. Her friends say she’s not used to this. She’s a good Christian. Divina says, she wasn’t one today. One of her friends called woman’s husband and he’s on his way. Another friend is upset because he can’t know we are here. Her husband is the guy who leads the protests outside the bar!

Pau asks Rafa to stop by the house. It’s important. She doesn’t want to talk on the phone. He agrees to stop by. Karen comes in to Rafa’ office--have you heard from Sal? His show is starting soon and he’s not here. Rafa gives an I told you so and he says to let the board deal with it . He has to leave early to see Pau. Karen asks if Jess is ok. Rafa thinks it has to do with divorce stuff.

Loli #54 part 2

Augustin, the protest guy, takes his wife, Olivia, home. But not before telling the other women they should be ashamed and he admonishes Octavio, I warned you to close this place. Now you will suffer the consequences! Apolo shouts after him, forgive them Lord, they don’t know what they’re doing! The poor pastor lost one of his lambs. [Is Augustin also Joaquin’s father? He looks like him]

Mati is trying to reach Sal. Unfortunately, Lupe is there hanging on, waiting for some juicy details. Where are you, Mati asks? Your show went live 10 minutes ago. What? What are you doing there?

Rafa is at Pau’s. She asks about Karen. Rafa says let’s keep this civil. What Pau has to say involves her. You might think I’m trying to sabotage your relationship, she says, but that is not the point. Rafa wants Pau to get to the point. She begins, last night I heard her talking to Vicente about... and they are interrupted by Mati calling Rafa. What? Loli is hanging from where?

Karen tells Rogelio that Loli is off with Sal, but no one knows where they are or what they are doing. Sal said he would be here on time but neither him nor Loli are here. Karen thinks someone should tell Loli she’s being irrespon…Rogelio cuts Karen off. He doesn’t want to hear criticism of Loli. She’s the best employee we have. [maybe she is compared to the rest of the nutjobs that work there] Rogelio thinks Sal is the problem. Where is Rafa, he asks. Tending to personal business.

Mati tells Rox that Loli and Sal went indoor rock climbing and Loli’s harness got stuck. Now she is hanging like a piñata.

Sam takes Jess and Joaquin to visit Gabriel. She tells him Jess’ mom is trying to help him and his sister. Gabe is grateful.

Karen makes a call to Vicente and lets him know about Sal and Loli MIA. She tells him Rogelio blames Sal and defends Loli. Par for the course, says Vic. She wants Rogelio to see that Rafael is best suited for the presidency.

Sam and Nicky are fighting over the TV, when Loli runs in crying and hugs them. You two are the most beautiful things I have, and I love you! Are you ok they ask? What happened? Nora and Domingo come running. Loli is bawling. You guys are my family and I never what to lose you, she says. What the heck is going on? Guessing it has to do with her rock climbing disaster which we didn’t get to see.

Sal and Rafa are at the Hunky Bar. [How did that happen?] Octavio brings a bottle to the table. Sal thinks he has a nice place. Octavio says making women happy is good business. The problem is when you want to make one happy and you realize she’s not for you. Sal says, the three of us thinking about the same one, right? Octavio mentions he has to tell Nicky he’s not his dad.

Sal talks about Loli. Octavio tells Sal he doesn’t have a chance, the way he left her. Rafa adds, then you took her rock climbing. Octavio wonders why Sal did that. Loli used to be adventurous, Sal says. Now she’s this boring discount version. Sal asks Rafa why he showed up at the gym. Doesn’t he have a girlfriend? Rafa reminds Sal that they both should have been at Global.

Divina comes by and wants to take a pic with The Renegade. She is a big fan. She makes a comment about the men being friends now since Octavio and Rafa were both after Loli. Rafa explains that Sal almost married Loli ten years ago. Divina calls them “The Dumped by Loli Club”. She joins the group for some tequila.

Karen is with Rogelio again. I never though Loli would be hanging from a rock climbing wall, she says and she apologizes for everything she previously said. He hopes Karen learned a lesson to think things through before accusing. He leaves her with advice: don’t take things so personally. After he leaves, she says, it wasn’t personal, but now it is.

dondi356

Loli #54 part 3

Cesar comes to see Rox at the station. She’s a bit ticked and says, you almost ruined my show. He’s sorry about that. But he has good news for her. It’s over; I convinced her to sign. Rox is happy. How did he do it? Cesar says, remember how you told me I had to give her something? I gave her my restaurant. Rox’s face falls.

Rox and Cesar arrive at her apartment. She can’t believe Cesar did this. Is he okay? Well, it hurts, but he thought about it. Thanks to her (Dulce), he has a life in this country. He doesn’t mind starting over. They head to the bedroom.

Some members of “The Dumped by Loli Club” plus one, are very drunk and singing. Octavio is sitting it out. Rafa gets a call. (Does anyone know who it is?) He tells the person, I’ll see you later, something came up. Time to settle the tab and Octavio says the drinks are on the house. One last shot and thanks. It was a pleasure.

Divina tells Octavio it’s obvious you are hooked on Loli. I wonder who gets to keep her, she giggles. Octavio says this isn’t a competition. Life is a competition, Divina replies. [writers, please let Octavio win]

Selma had a good day, Jack says, she knew who everyone was. Mati says we should celebrate. Selma asks what are we celebrating? We are renewing our vows and adopting two kids. Selma is happy, she wanted grandchildren. Mati asks Art about the adoption. Art tells him he handed in the paperwork, don’t worry, we’ll get approved. [Why do I worry? Will they be turned down for being a same sex couple?]

Nora and Rogelio are out at dinner. When can we stop meeting in secret like kids, he asks her? She thinks they need Loli’s permission. Should I ask for your hand? Nora laughs, no I say it because you’re her boss. Things are better between you two now, right? Somewhat. Depends. Nora asks, what about you and Vicente? Not good. She says to take a lesson from her and Mari. So much drama and the last time I saw her was at her funeral. Rogelio says tomorrow is Vicente’s birthday and he will call him. Call? Go see him, she says, hug him, talk things out. Not so easy, Rogelio says, my son is prideful. More than you, Nora asks, so will you go?

Vic is on the phone. He’s laughing. Loli just keeps getting herself in trouble, he tells Pau. She decided to climb a wall and ended up hanging like a piñata. Sal helped her and missed his show. Vic is thrilled. Global is a disaster. And how is Loli, Pau asks. Why do you care? Hello, she’s a human being. [something that Vic isn’t] Ah, she’s ok, just scared.

Tomorrow’s your birthday, Pau says what are you doing? We could have something at the house. Just us two, ok? And he adds, Jess, too. Pau suggests inviting Karen and Rafa as an excuse to get the guys together. Vic thinks it’s a terrible idea.

Loli talks to Mari’s pic and cries. You and I were almost roommates. I know I have responsibilities. What was I trying to prove to Sal? I don’t want to get back with him. You have no idea how much I miss you. I need you.

She hears a noise. She looks out her window. She goes outside to a very drunk Sal. He loves her, blah, blah, blah… He’s sorry about today. She tries to hold him off at arm’s length. She shouts at him, today was terrible! What if something happened to me! But we had fun, he says, you were free!

She needs to think of the kids. She tells Sal she’s not the same person she was ten years ago. Sal plants a big one on her just as Rafa drives up. Rafa drives off before he can see Loli push Sal away. She tells him to get lost as he continues to profess his love for her. He begs her to start over with him. She’s serious she doesn’t want this anymore. She goes back in the house. For once, she’s made the right decision.

dondi356

Loli #54 part 4

Bed scene with Bruno and Mel. They will find out tomorrow if their baby is a boy or a girl.

Roberto/Divina is having breakfast with Octavio. Roberto thinks it was crazy to invite those guys for drinks. They are rivals and this is war. Octavio says he’s not at war with anyone. Roberto gives him tips. Just because you don’t see her doesn’t mean she doesn’t exist. Sal is going for it. Octavio thinks Sal failed with the rock climbing date. Roberto mentions Rafa is with Karen. This is your time to make a move, he tells Octavio. Stop. It’s over with Loli, Octavio says. The only thing we had in common was Nicky and that’s over too.

Loli speaks with Octavio. She asks for a few more days to talk to Nicky.

Rox and Mati rush to Loli to see if she’s okay. Loli asks Mati why he always calls Rafa. She says the firefighters rescued her. Were they hot, Rox asks? Rafa comes in and jokes, are we skydiving today? Rox hugs Rafa and thanks him for saving Loli. Loli reminds them it was the firefighters who saved her. Rox and Mati leave the two alone. Loli didn’t ask him to come to the gym but she thanks him for his concern.

Rox is doing her show. She talks about men making women suffer but there are some men who are willing to make the commitment. She asks what do you do if you meet a guy like that? Women can be complicated. We worry about finding our prince charming but when we find him, we complain because he’s not our kind of prince charming. (I suppose she’s talking about Cesar here) Ha, she had a caller who wonders if they were still talking about his issue.

Rox takes a break. Mati wonders what is going on. Rox blurts out, Cesar gave his restaurant to his wife in exchange for the divorce. I think he’s serious about me, she says. She panics and runs out of the booth.

Mati finds Rox crying in a stall in the ladies’ room. [I expected Lupe to show up, thankfully she didn’t] She wants to be left alone. Mati understands. He was afraid when Art proposed. Art was sure about what he wanted but, I wasn’t, he says. But look at us now.

Rox says it’s not the same. You lived together for a long time before getting married. Cesar and I aren’t even parejas. Cesar is giving up his restaurant for me. What if in three months, he realizes we are incompatible? Mati says, when you’re in love you take risks. Cesar decided to take this one. She comes out and gives Mati a big hug. A touching scene.

Karen is doing her presidential job coaching thing with Rafa again. She advises him to get to know his employees better. He doesn’t know anything about them. Good grief, we have to sit through him speaking with all of them about personal stuff. Tania, Paloma, the despised Lupe. And I hope Lupe does find a better offer at another radio station.

Finally, he meets with Rox. Since he’s in a listening mood, she tells him she hasn’t liked him from the beginning. He was all over Loli while he was still married. Rafa wants her to get to the point. What does she want? She wants him to try harder with Loli. He gives her a look. Karen shows up outside the office, unnoticed and listening. Rox continues, I can tell when someone is lovesick. You are smitten with Lolipops.

And we are out.

Loli

I didn't get the chance to thank you, novelera, for your fine Thursday recap. So, thank you very much!

Victoria, I hear you. I probably would go to half-watching, too, but I am commited to recapping and seeing this through with the patio.

I saw we are getting an avance for Café con Aroma de Mujer on Monday and they will let us know the premier date. I'm hoping for an early show. Maybe Exatlon will finish soon?

dondi356

loli

Wow, dondi356, I'm speechless! What an amazing recap! Yes, I know, I often praise your recaps with all kinds of superlatives, but that's because the recaps are superlative. Like this one!

You note at the start that "this episode is sliced and diced." I find that's true of just about all of them. That seems to be the format Telemundo (and probably Univision as well, IIRC) prefers. I'm not sure why.

I was somewhat surprised by the ping pong match. Or rather, by the fact that as far as I could tell, the actual actors were playing, not look-alike subs. They were both VERY good!

It frankly never occurred to me that Augustín who comes to retrieve his wife from Hunky Bar could also be Juaquín's father. But after reading your suggestion, I took a look at a "full cast" listing, and sure enough, Augustín and Juaquín have the same surname: Llano. I wonder how this will play out in the novela's plot.

Loli's sudden bawling and hugging her family left me scratching my head. You suggest it may have something to do with the rock-climbing fiasco. It must have been a little scary, but.... I wonder whether the original intention was to let us see this scene. Seems a bit odd just to report something so film-worthy.

And I appreciated your aside "[How did that happen?]" about Sal and Rafa turning up at the Hunky Bar. One minute Rafa is falking with Pau, and the next, he's at the Hunky Bar? I did love Divina's referring to Octavio, Rafa, and Sal as "The Dumped by Loli Club."

I too found myself wondering whether Art and Mati's application would be turned down because they're a gay couple. However, they didn't seem to encounter any sign of trouble earlier, when they took home "Huevin" to practice. And apparently the novela is set in California, which does tend to take a more enlightened attitude than some other states.

Pau's suggestion that they include Rafa and Karen in Vicente's birthday celebration was terrible. For once, I agreed with Vicente.

I too found Mati's advice to Rox in the ladies room quite moving. (And I was suprprised and relieved that Lupe didn't turn up in one of the neighboring stalls.)

All of the gossip quartet sing the same song lyrics: more money. If we ever saw them actually working, I might be more sympathetic. Like you, I would be happy if Lupe found another job elsewhere.

Loli
Hi dondi356! Totally agree with Juanita, this recap is super! Your side comments are perfect and funny. I loved:

She’s the best employee we have. [maybe she is compared to the rest of the nutjobs that work there]. I agree the women don’t seem to work at all! Lupe…go away!

Sal and Rafa are at the Hunky Bar. [How did that happen?] How did that happen is right! I thought I was falling asleep during the show and missing parts.

Life is a competition, Divina replies. [writers, please let Octavio win] YES, let him win! I was also confused as to how the members of the “Dumped Loli Club” all made it to Hunky Bar. I think Karen was the one who called Rafa and he gave her the "see you later heave ho."

Hello, she’s a human being. [something that Vic isn’t] No kidding! At least Paulina seems to have a heart. Chente is a reptile!

These are only a few of your awesome comments. I could have just copied the who recap and given it at 10! Interesting that Kino’s dad is the Picketing Pastor! I totally missed that.

Victoria and dondi356, this is quite the mix of craziness and I am pretty new to novela watching, so I think I am in the minority in looking forward to watching this show after a long day and have enjoyed interacting with you on the Patio.

Grateful to you dondi356, that even if you half-watch, I can still enjoy these fabulous recaps! Thank you!

loli

Another fantastic recap, dondi! Thanks so much. You got a generous helping of snark in there as well.

We are all just amazed at the stupidity of some of the events in this show. Last night Bruno and Melissa were the sane ones!

I really enjoyed the scene at the Youth Center. At first Gabriel, typical of a young person who's had a very hard life, was a bit prickly with Joaquín and Jess. But then he warmed right up. I was good to see the four of them sitting around brainstorming how to help Gabriel and his sister.

So...night after night I continue to find Karen's behavior puzzling. She's colluding with Vicente and I believe he's been frank about his desires to ruin GR. But, on the other hand she's pulling out all the stops to get Rafa chosen as the President. President of what? If Chente has his way, it would be president of a fiasco.

So, after the tequila fest at Hunky Bar, are we to believe that Salvador and Rafael took "Mover"? Actually we saw Rafa drive past Loli's house. Sal was still inebriated when he was pleading with Loli. Did Rafa drink less? Do the probably Miami based writers know that California has a .08% BAC limit (blood alcohol)? Every time I renew my vehicle registration there is an insert in the envelope showing men's and women's body weights on a chart and how much they could drink and safely drive. OK, rant over.

As VVS mentioned, I doubt a same sex couple in CA would have any problem fostering or adopting an older child. And more well-off same sex couples often go for hiring a surrogate and using sperm from one or the other as the bio dad.

Victoria,

It seems that you can watch Café Con Aroma de Mujer with Guy Ecker on XFinity streaming. Don't know about the cost.

Thank you so much for the xfinity site.
I'm definitely going to try it out. Maybe they have a free trial.

Crap, Anon, thanks but they don't have service in my area of Charlotte.

I really appreciate the help though. I should never have procrastinated on watching it.

Loli

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. Great comments!

Juanita, I know it’s not unusual to get perplexing edits, but I really believe Covid did big damage to this show. Karen and Rafa were quite good at ping pong!

novelera, “Last night Bruno and Melissa were the sane ones!” So sad, right? But that’s because they were only on screen for a minute.

And--“So, after the tequila fest at Hunky Bar, are we to believe that Salvador and Rafael took "Mover"? Actually we saw Rafa drive past Loli's house.” This. Rafa and Sal were both very drunk at Hunky Bar. It didn’t make sense that Rafa was driving sober (?) while Sal was still sloppy drunk at Loli’s. Was something edited and Sal kept drinking?

I really hope that Mati and Art will be able to adopt Gabe and Christi but since Mati was nervous and Art thought it was a piece of cake, it made me wonder what could stand in the way. Times are changing, but one never knows. It could be something else that prevents them from adopting or maybe I’m worrying about nothing.

VVS, nothing wrong with enjoying the show. There’s still something (Octavio) to keep me watching. I’m currently watching other stuff that makes this TN pale in comparison.

Dirilis:Ertugrul / Resurrection Ertugrul

dondi, I finished it all, 5 seasons!
a hard ride through the forest and a good sword fight every day, and it never got old! It's quite the story!

if you care to give it a try, like I said earlier, the first few seasons wrap everything up as they migrate for the next, so you don't have to commit to them all. There were some times I had to alter with the DailyMotion website to continue.

Hi deb,

Congrats on finishing Diriliş Ertuğrul! It’s on Netflix and I watched the first two eps. My mother just finished it and she enjoyed it. She also watched Magnificent Century and Kosem. She got hooked on the Ottomans, too. She’s asking me about Osman now—loves Burak! I gotta catch up to you guys.
