Cafe 18
What a sad episode! I can’t believe that Julia believed that Gaviota would be part of a plot to pretend to kidnap Octavio so he could reward her with the land. Plus after all this time a man Wilson, , who was accused of stealing, would use this info as a bargaining tool! Julia did not even have the decency to discuss this with Gaviota and Carmenza. At least she told Aurelio who did defend the two women. Until this episode I had hope for Julia but now I hope she reaps heavy consequences for her turning against Gaviota and her mother, who was correct in telling Julia that she was jealous of Octavio’s relationship with her, which was solely based on her excellent work!

QT #122, Finale Part 1 of 3

Elias almost dragged Valeria out. Nadia followed.

Mateo's phone signaled Leonel's message. “Little brother, I am closer than you think.” There was a rustling of movement. Matt cocked his rifle. Juan tried reaching Justino, but did not find a signal.

Matt went back to Esme's to find the women praying. He asked for Val and was told she had left with Elias. He told them that Justino had gone missing. Matt's phone rang. He answered but probably had a signal problem.

Sabina and Angelita were inside the main house. She told the child she wass safe with her family. That Matt, Val, and Dalia would protect her.

Matt and Juan found Justino and he told them that Elias was working for Leo. Matt rode off on his horse.

Tirso suggested the women go to the other rooms and lock themselves inside. Magdalena wanted to stay with him in the main room because “I never stopped loving you.” and that she didn't want anything to happen to him. He said he was a new man because of her.

Artemio told Eva that Diana was a liar but she wasn't fooled this time. She slapped him hard and told him off. Both women began beating him with their purses.

Padre G told Berenice she would need to be strong. Sandy was in a bad way and wanted to see Matt to ask his forgiveness. Dr Flavio entered as said the baby was slowly responding to treatment. Padre G asked if he could baptize the baby just in case and Dr Flavio said it was alright.

Back in the corral Elias almost threw Val at Leo. She told him he would pay for all this.Elias watched as Leo told her he had loved her but she had “betrayed” him. Leo's hand was on his pistol. She said that love cannot co-exist with lies. She had only been an instrument to him because he was selfish and incapable of loving anyone. He aimed at her head at point-blank range. “I will not take humiliation. Now you will die...” The rest was unintelligible. Nadia – who had been texting as she watched – appeared and smacked Elias' head from behind with her purse (which may have contained a brick), yelling at Leo not to shoot. Leo grabbed Val in a choke hold with his left arm while holding the pistol at her head.”Pleased to see you, Nadia,” he said. “We have outstanding business.”
He shoved Val at her. Nadia stepped I between them, saying “Put down the gun” He hit her with it an she fell down to the grass. He pointed it at Val as she tried to bend down toward Nadia. “It's over, Valeria. I will order Mateo to come here to see you die, my love.”
“If you kill me you will never be happy. Do you know the hell you put Nadia through?”
“Goodbye, my love. Mateo will get here and find you dead.”
Nadia stood just before he fired. She fell back against Val and then onto the ground.
“A useless sacrifice,” said Leo, still aiming the gun. “only gift she had was her life.” Just as he was about to shoot Matt arrived with reinforcements. Leo placed the gun's muzzle right on Val's head. “Go ahead, shoot me. Shoot me! Shoot me!” he taunted.
“Leonel, this is between you and me. Let her go.”
“Put down your weapons! Put down your arms or I will send her to the devil.”
Matt told his men to put their weapons down. Juan refused, but Matt insisted. Leo did not move the gun from Val's head.
“Mateo, you took everything from me, but now I am taking away what you want most. I'm going to kill her here and now and that will torture you for the rest of your life.”
Police sirens were heard, and were getting louder. Val screwed up her courage and hit Leo's hand aside with her arm. He dropped the pistol, leaped over a fence, and pulled out another, smaller weapon, which he aimed at Matt. A shot rang out. Val screamed.

QT #122, Finale Part 2 of 3

Art was still failing at fighting off the two angry women when three cops entered and Saldivar told him he was under arrest for homicide, corruption, money laundering, and miscellaneous other crimes. With some difficulty they managed to cuff him. They mirandized him on the way out. Eva cried, but only for a moment. She recovered and said “Now you've been put in your place, Artemio Cabrera.”
Leo fell to the ground. The sirens became louder. It was Victor who had fired the shot. “The time has come, Leonel Montes.” Leo was convulsing and coughing up blood.
Val was crying, partly from relief. Matt got her to her feet, telling her that Nadia had texted him when she found her. Padre G called him and he said he would be on his way. He hugged Val first.

Sandy kept repeating Matt's name. Padre G entered. Berenice called Eva and told her to come ASAP. Padre G gave the Last Rites as Matt entered. He told her the baby was getting better. She asked if he forgave her. He said he did and a moment later she flatlined. He closed her eyes.

Sab wrote a farewell note to Ange as the child slept, saying she hoped she would get the mother she deserved. She cried as she wrote it. After placing it she turned herself in to Victor, confessing that she had killed Amara.

Dr Flavio brought Sandy's baby out to Matt, Val, and Padre G. He had gotten the DNA test results from Uriel; the baby was Leo's. Matt said the results didn't matter; this would be his son. Matt named him Patricio and Padre G baptized him.

Eva arrived as Sandy's body was wheeled out to the morgue. She fell to her knees and cried.

A little later Luisa called on Eva to offer her support. Miraculously, Eva accepted. It was as though all the poisons that lurked between them had been purged out.

Aaron read about Sabina's arrest in the paper. “At last, Justice.” He walked unsteadily from the gazebo across the square, finally collapsing hard on the cobblestone walkway. He opened hie eyes and saw his sister, Amara. He reached for her hand, smiled, and died. He was only seeing her in his mind and heart.

Val and Matt told Padre G that the baby was doing well. Padre G handed them a large white envelope which contained the Catholic annulment for Val. Tito called Matt to tell him that one of his mares was foaling.

In a mental hospital Leo was taken from a wheelchair and strapped to a bed. He was repeating “I'm going to kill you, Mateo” as the orderlies did their work. His eyes were red-rimmed and his head was shaved. He was limp and helpless as they strapped him down, but looked like the madman he had become. Somewhere in his mind he saw Minerva, sober and dressed elegantly in a blavk suit with gold and pearl jewelry. She said “I am here to protect you. You always were a mama's boy.” She settled down next to him. “We are now together forever.” He told her to go away.
“I am capable of doing everything for my baby. Si, mi amor, you were never meant to be a great man. Everyone knew you were a loser. Or, as your father said, a big failure. I think he was right. But, no to worry. I'm here. Never will I leave you.”
He started crying. He was alone.

QT #122, Finale Part 3 of 3

Artemio was scrubbing the floor with a toothbrush when Zavala came in... with two new minions. He blamed Art for his downfall, finally saying “Money doesn't solve everything, Artemio.” He nodded and said to the two minions “You know what to do.” As he walked away they began beating Art [and we can be sure they'll eventually made him squeal like a pig].

Magda spoke to Victor, who apparently was free of charges after bringing down Art and Zavala. He was sad not to have her love but happy that she was with a good man. He said goodbye because he was going to start over elsewhere. She thanked him for saving her life and he her for making him a better person.

A Year Later

Valeria entered the parlour in her bridal gown. Tito and Ange prevented Matt from entering and seeing her in the gown. Ange gave Val a bouquet she and Tito had made for her. She kissed them. She and Matt were married in the church by Padre G. A small party took place later. Magda then introduced her to Sonia, her (Val's) grandmother. [I will spare you the sappy details] She then introduced Sonia to everyone. Dalia announced that she and Guillermo will marry soon. Carlo and Esme announced that they were going to adopt a child. Luisa had finished her studies and was about to begin her own career. She was holding her baby boy. Dorotea was among the guests.
Matt talked about how his father had hurt many people. However, this actions gave him two loving mothers from whom he had learned about love and forgiveness Matt and Val announced that they were going to donate the whole Montes fortune to the orphanage for the good of the children. Berenice was heavily pregnant [No word on whether Chacho had a job]. Corina and Lorenzo were also to be married [WTF??]. Magda cried at having such a large family after so much time being alone
Matt and Val went out into the courtyard and pledged their eternal togetherness. She told him she was pregnant. He was thrilled. They kissed and walked back to the party.

FIN

Hurrah, Urban! You get a gold star for this final recap!
I ended up ridng along to hubby's afternoon dr. appointment and missed seeing this. I knew I could count your skills to paint the events for me.

Sandi's demise was inevitable. Art can be tormented by Zavala with no recourse. Maybe a heart attack will take him out.

I did like this TN and wish more people had watched and commented. You and Blue Lass gave us some stellar recaps to enjoy along the way.

Urban,
Muchas gracias por el finale. I will watch it once it is posted on Uni. I wish I could have seen it earlier in the day, but your recap gave me a good idea of what I was missing.
On to la proximo.

"QT":

UA: Thank you very much for the recap on yesterday's Gran Final.

La Paloma: I agree with you on Sandy's death being inevitable. At least Mateo & Val will raise her baby. I also figured out Leo was the biological father of Sandy's kid anyway.

Sad about nobody running to Aaron's aid as he laid dying.

SFChicaBonita: It was AWESOME. I'm still curious as to Corina & Lorenzo being a couple ?

What happened to Mateo's adoptive father ?

My thoughts:
1.) I'm assuming Nadia died after getting shot by Crazy Leo ?

2.) Artemio getting his ass kicked by Zavala's thugs in prison was poetic justice. I wonder if anyone else told him that Sandy died ?

3.) Sandy dying was inevitable. I had a feeling the chickens were coming home to roost.

4.) Sab going to prison for killing Amara: FINALLY!

5.) Tirso & Madga are together I'm assuming.

QT Finale

Gracias to all for watching and reading.

I also thought that much poetic justice was served and I think Art will have a very hard time in prison. In fact, his early experiences will be more than enough to cause a future fatal heart attack. I assume that somebody had to tell him about Sandy's death eventually and I guess the writers couldn't decide who would deliver that bad news to him.

Or they didn't want to give this character any more screen time than he deserved.

I did spend some time thinking about why Matt would have named the baby Patricio. In view of what the old man and Leonel were like that name sounds like a curse. While Patricio never treated Matt badly that isn't remotely enough to compensate for what he did to others. We don't know how many people died as a result of his actions. His attitude affected Esme for all Matt's life up to this story and caused Aaron so much pain from keeping his secrets that he willed himself to die. That was painful to watch.

The will brought out conflict which results in a good story but cost more lives. I realized that he would not have left his fortune outright to Leonel due to their ongoing differences but would that have prevented anything that happened once the will was read? Probably not.

That last apparition of Minerva was seriously unnerving. It added to the symbolism of what happened to Leo, whose madness led to a situation that made him as helpless as an infant. We didn't see Victor's bullet enter his body but I'm sure he ended up with spinal damage that caused him to no longer be in control of his extremities. The shaved head echoes the usual -- but temporary -- baldness of infants. That Leo will have no control over his life from this point on was well-deserved.

However, I hope they didn't actually shave off Victor Gonzalez's hair for this one scene, as it definitely took away his usual good looks and would take a good six months to grow back.

I will post more later; need to go out for brunch.

"QT" Gran Final:
UA: I've noticed the same thing regarding Mateo naming the baby after Patricio.

My question is whatever happened to the adoptive father of Mateo ?

QT Finale

Dalia was either never married or a widow when Mateo was given to her. Don Patricio was his only paternal figure and I am certain he knew after a while that Matt was his son and... the man he may have wished to be.

QT Finale

I enjoyed this story for the most part but two things bothered me:

-- Aaron's death. No good reason for that.
-- Matt and Valeria deciding to donate his entire inheritance to charity. What will they live on? Is anyone else bothered by this decision?

QT Finale

Aaron's death was somewhat of his own choosing. I never liked it that he suddenly abandoned his medical practice and patients, due to his feelings of guilt.

I agree that giving away the entire inheritance was not a great idea. What about the special share for Angelita? Maybe they will make a good living from breeding the horses?

Did we know who Val's father was and I forgot? Or was it never revealed?

I liked the simple wedding ceremony and everyone being brought into the family.

Since I don't get Unimas, I doubt I'll watch any TNs for a while. Not that interested in the evening ones.

QT Finale

It would not have bothered me if Matt had decided to make out his will and leave a large amount to the orphanages or if Dalia and the other women had decided to promote foster parenting and adoption. This is almost like believing the money is tainted and need to be cleansed by leaving it to charity.

Does this mean that the ranch becomes an orphanage? If so, where will Matt and his family live? He now is responsible for his nephew, Angelita (who is his niece), and a child of his own. Possibly also for Tito to some extent. If he succeeds in breeding million-dollar horses it's a limited market. He'd be lucky to sell two per year.

I also doubt that Val could recover what Leo stole from her, at least within any reasonable amount of time.

Why did Leonel get paralyzed and without hair?

QT Finale

He was shot by Victor Basurto from behind to protect Valeria. They didn't say, but the bullet likely hit his spine, which paralyzed him.

I can't imagine why the manicomio staff shaved his head except to humiliate him, unless that is standard procedure with new male inmates.

QT Finale

Thanks, UA, for the cracking closer. I was very satisfied with the ending -- it seemed to me they wrapped things up tighter than usual, although it's true that Val's father and Lorenzo's origins will forever remain a mystery.

I believe they did in fact shave VG's head for the final -- there was a video of the process on FB.

Leo did indeed look paralyzed as the orderlies moved him from the wheelchair to the bed -- but I noticed they strapped his legs down just in case.

Luisa said she was going to run for mayor as soon as she got her diploma. Yay!

QT Finale

Luisa as mayor... here's hoping. The would be the end of corruption in that town.

Matt looked fabulous in his traje de charro.

Considering that Leonel was very intelligent and held all the trump cards for a quite a while I guess the orderlies decided not to take any chances. He was certainly unscrupulous and all this cost him his mental health and his mobility. He will never get out of that place. If his arms and hands are useless he wouldn't even be able to kill himself. This actually is the worst possible fate any villain could suffer.

Good grief at the shaving of VG's head. He's normally very handsome. I fell for him big time during La Candidata. If he were British he'd make an excellent James Bond.

"QT":
UA: I thought Tirso was Valeria's father 🤔
