Part 1
After hearing Paulina tell the radio audience on her rouge show that she and Rafa are back together, Loli heads for the door to leave, Brian telling her to at least finish her dinner. Rafa comes down the hallway saying he wants to talk to her, followed by Don Rogelio. Loli tries to regain her composure saying she has to get home to Nicky and can they talk tomorrow? Don R tells her and Rafa that when he brought them together to work again, he did not expect such complications. Loli leaves with Brian in tow. Don R slaps Rafa on the back and says, sorry, you can’t blame an old romantic for trying.
Paulina comes rushing and gushing into Rafa office claiming complete success for her set up confession showing him all the text and positive comments from the show. Rafa tells her that he doesn’t like it when she uses their personal lives as material, the books are enough. Paulina blames the overly excited fans (named Angie) for making her spill the beans. Plus, she is so happy she just couldn’t keep the good news from everyone, unless of course it isn’t true? Rafa keeps playing the denial game (with just a few episodes to go, we know that somehow, he and Loli will finally end up together) and says of course it is true, but the books are enough, don’t expose our private lives.
Rox has another heated discussion now with Arturo about he and Mati dumping her for another surrogate. Mati comes in mind conversation and she tell them both to forget about a second chance, both are traitors and talk to the hand, she is done with them. Later, Rox and a very kind Romeo are at her apartment. Romeo encourages her to move to Cancun as it is clear she loves Cesar. She gives a million excuses why that would not work and Romeo tells her a family is where your love is, go to him! She laughs and says who would have thought that under all those sexy muscles, he had such a soft romantic heart. He says, my name is Romeo after all! They toast to being friends without benefits. (Very cute).
Jess is at Sam’s house trying to get her to forgive her for not saying anything about Gabe and Carol kissing. Just at the moment, Gabe shows up with flowers and playing a song, Perdoname. For a second, we see the nice Sam back, but then the Leo grouchy, leave me alone, personality exerts itself and she tells them both off again. Nicky comes up from behind Sam, she hands the roses to him and stomps off. Jess tells Gabe that again Sam is mad at her because of him and stomps off. A puzzled Gabe gets the door shut in his face by Nicky, who at least tells him the roses are pretty. Later, we see Gabe drinking in the street and picking a fight with the gang he used to run with. They give him a good beating. (It seems as if everyone reverted to their bad behavior of 90 episodes ago).
Octavio and Victoria are having a dinner of enchiladas that he prepared for her. She is impressed with his cooking skills. She mentions celebrating the big settlement check from the sperm bank and he is celebrating that they are together again and giving the relationship another try. Victoria (to her credit) tells him that she is not up for another try until he can clearly tell her he is ready to do so without any feelings left for Loli. Octavio, for the first time, realizes that needs to occur and they agree to just enjoy dinner and the video that Andy made for Octavio. (Ugh, I just hate it that Victoria is the one…).
Part 2
Sam is on the heart donor website trying to figure out how to communicate with the family of the heart donor (uh oh) when Nicky comes in carrying a flower vase with the roses Gabe brought her. Sam recognizes the vase as their mom’s favorite. Nicky reminds her what ground rules their mom set for them fighting: no hair pulling, no low blows and not saying mean things to each other. He asks why she won’t forgive Jess and Gabe (other than the fact that Leo didn’t know how to forgive?). She says they have been mean to her. Nicky asks, have they pulled your hair, low blows, said awful things? No? Then she needs to forgive them. Sam laughs and tells him he is wise. He tells her that he has always been the wiser more mature one. (Viewerville stand and applaud the only real adult in the entire novela).
Next day, Brian is at Global Radio asking Lupe for Loli. Rafa comes around the corner and sarcastically says, oh here is Loli’s novio, we should get an office for you. Much to Rafa’s surprise, Brian says that he is not Loli’s novio, yet, but he is here for his new office and job as the new Global Radio psychologist. (Viewerville shouts: FINALLY, we needed this position 98 episodes ago!). Brian goes on to say that Rafa should schedule an appointment with him soon as he looks very tense. (Good one Brian).
At Bruno’s Circus House, Bruno, Altimio and the mis-identified Felipe, (the second criminal sure looked like Felipe last week) are trying on clothes and practicing for the second round of the Great Avocado Caper! The plan is to pretend they are avocado growers who want to invest in Global Radio somehow taking down Chente with the scheme. (I don’t get it). At GR, Chente and Rufino are waiting in the conference room as Bruno lets them know he has found two new investors. The bumbling, babbling Trio set up this story that they are multimillionaires and want to invest lots of money into GR. Chente, seeing an opportunity to make some cash says he will use his other company to accept the funds. He is not stupid and later tells Rufino that he doesn’t trust them at all, but let’s take the cash. Later, Rufino tells Chente that Loli has informed the board of directors about he missing money and proof that Chente has mismanaged/stolen it. (I was a bit lost with this storyline so any help clarifying would be great).
Loli, Rafa and Brian have a discussion about Brian being contracted by Loli. In the break room (because these people never actually work) Loli is getting coffee and Rafa confronts her about how unprofessional it was to contract her novio without consulting him first. She rightfully tells him that he ran around with Karen who was also doing therapy sessions (even though she was a marketing consultant) so what is the big deal. Rafa calls her out that she only hired Brian to make him jealous! She yells, yes I did, in agreement. Of course, in walks Brian who then tells Loli she doesn’t have to give him any explanations and leaves.
Octavio, Apolo and Domingo are very worried that they cannot find Gabriel who did not come home that night. Gabe finally pulls himself up the staircase all beaten up and down on life. The guys try to be supportive but ugly Gabe is just mean especially to Domingo (breaking all of Mariana’s fighting rules). Domingo leaves and both Apolo and Octavio tell Gabe off for being so mean, then give him a pep talk about how a person has to work hard to get ahead. Of course, Victoria comes up the stairs (whatever happened to the front door?) and listens appreciatively to the great, kind advice Octavio is giving Gabe. (Ugh, I just hate it that Victoria is the one…) (Sorry, but it is worth repeating).
Part 3:
Loli finds Brian at a bar and tries to explain what is going on. He just tells her that he loves her and is willing to wait for her to clear her ideas (good luck with that one Brian). Loli goes through her crazy in her head talking saying that Brian is so different, she has not attraction to him really like, Rafa, Salvador even Octavio, so maybe he is the right one? Someone different? Brian asks her what she wants to do so of course she launches herself onto his lips for a famous Loli kiss, that she immediately regrets. She agrees to take is slow with Brain and he says he will give her time. (No can-do Brian, we only have 5 more episodes). Then seeing a child choking, Brian rushes over to perform the Heimlich maneuver and Loli thinks this is a sign.
Rafa comes home with Paulina and Jess, who begs him to stay so they can watch a movie together. Paulina offers to order dinner, Jess goes to find a movie and Rafa says he needs a shower, leaving his phone on the credenza under the Paulina “I Love Me” wall. Paulina hears the message notice on his phone and of course goes to check it out, Rafa of course does not have a passcode on the phone. Paulina reads the email sent to Rafa from the organ donation center with a very nice letter from Sam thanking the family for giving her life with their deceased family members heart. Paulina is shocked to realize that Rafa donated Leo’s heart to Sam. Instead of being happy and grateful for Sam’s life, selfish Paulina calls Angie to complain that now she will never get rid of Loli now! Then ends up hanging up on her when Angie doesn’t agree with her. Stupidly, she deletes the message in an attempt to delete Loli from their lives, then realizes she made a great mistake. What if Rafa find out? Luckily, Rafa returns from showering for his phone as Pau suspiciously puts in back on the credenza and goes to get them some wine. Rafa picks up the phone with a suspicious look.
Later, at the sushi delivered dinner with only two place settings (I guess Jess ate in her room) Jess comes out to confront the parents of the year as to why she had to learn on social media that they were no longer getting divorced? Were they sure this was the right move? Pau gushes, Rafa mumbles.
More Victoria and Octavio having dinner and she talking about what a great role model he is for Gabriel and how much she is enjoying being with him. (Ugh, I just hate it that Victoria is the one…). Okay, I will stop.
Nicky, dressed in a Spiderman costume has a long discussion with Mr. Coulders about this being the day before his birthday and how excited he is to celebrate the no birthday, birthday. Apparently when he was much younger, he got his birthday mixed up and came down a day early in his superhero costume. His mom and Sam made good fun of him but every year after they would celebrate the early non-birthday, birthday. He is excited! Unfortunately, (as most birthdays go) none of that happens this year. Loli and Norita are clearly unaware of the tradition and Sam is really Leo, so Nicky is disappointed at breakfast that no one seems to know his expectations. As he is asking if anyone knows what anniversary day it is, the day is ruined by Chente slithering in to threaten Loli that his dad, their dad is going to be the one ruined by her financial investigation she is presenting to the board later that day. In the officer that morning, Loli and Rafa show Don Rogelio the evidence that Chente has been stealing from the station. Don R is not surprised saying that he suspected what was going on but didn’t want to cause more problems with Chente. He tells Loli to do what she needs to do.
Part 4
Octavio is having a nice conversation with his mom helping her with an issue with the car. A sober, cleaned up Gabe comes out dressed up for a job interview. He tells Octavio that even though he couldn’t adopt him, he is grateful to have met Octavio and views him as a dad. They hug.
Later in the day, Octavio gets a call from Nicky asking him to pick him up. Octavio says what about Raul your papa, wasn’t he going to pick you up? Nicky says that Raul can’t come to get him. With a slightly annoyed look, (because of Raul) Octavio tells Nicky he will be right there. At the park, Octavio asks Nicky why he is sad? Because Raul didn’t come to pick him up? Nicky tells the story of the non-birthday, birthday and how that tradition was lost this year and how this will be his first birthday without his mom. Octavio is just great giving Nicky love and words of encouragement, saying that the day still isn’t over and starts making calls. I was surprised not to see a bunch of butterfly’s swoop in and land on each of them.
Back at Global Radio, Rafa watches as Mati and Rox come out of a therapy session with Brian. They hug and Mati apologies for comparing Rox to Honey Boo Boo (Why didn’t I think of that!?) they both agree to follow the advice of clear communication. Brian comes out of the office, he and Rafa give each other a look and Brian walks away. Lupe comes by and says, when one is professional, one is professional. Brian even helped me and I think he still has several appointments open today, then walks away. Rafa looks as if he needs an appointment.
The succubus is trying to convince Angie to delete the email sent with Sam’s letter from Rafa’s computer. Angie does not want to get in trouble and Pau tells her to just do it! Meanwhile, Chente is in the board room clearly nervous about the board meeting, telling Rufino that he went to Loli’s house and threatened her that morning. This is not going to go well for her if she decides to take him down. Paulina slithers into the meeting room, Rufino out. Chente immediately becomes defensive and she says that although they did not end on great terms, they both have one enemy in common and that is Loli. In walks Bruno, claiming he heard nothing about both of them hating Loli. So, the bad behavior continues.
I thought last night was my last recap for this novela but apparently the Grande Finale is next Monday, June 21st. Not sure how I feel about being the recap rookie doing my first Grande Finale, hopefully it will all neatly come together in The End. 😊
I love your recaps, VVS! More entertaining than the show. Your asides are on point. I have no doubt you can handle the gran final.
“the Paulina “I Love Me” wall.” “the succubus” --LOL
At dinner, Victoria tells Octavio she’s not up for another try because of Loli but then she just shows up the next day. “(Ugh, I just hate it that Victoria is the one…)”—allow me to take up the cause from you.
If that wasn’t Felipe, the who was this random guy?
The New Great Avocado Caper is worse than the first. Lactose-free avocados? Fruit flavored avocados? Did Vicente really think these jerks had any money?
Did Brian cure Lupe of her pernicious gossiping? If so, you are right, VVS, they should have hired him 98 eps ago.
I don’t think there was much to what Rufino and Vicente said about the stolen money. Rufino was worried about his own fate. He told Vicente the worst that would happen to him (Vic) was that he would be fired. I don’t know about that. If money was stolen, wouldn’t that be a crime? Jail time?
Why doesn’t Angie out Paulina?
dondi356
You are so nice dondi356. I am glad you enjoyed the recap. Thank you for clarifying the money story with Chente and Rufino. I agree that Angie just needs to stop supporting Paulina. I hope she just tells Rafa the truth about the email and that Paulina deleted it off the phone.
I have no idea who that random criminal guy is. He was definitely better at acting than Altimio. I think Chente just hears money and not stupidity. I missed the fruit flavored avocados.
We will have to see if Brian has helped Lupe at all and thank you for taking up the I can’t believe Victoria gets to end up with Octavio dismay with me!
VVS, your recap was a work of art! Just fantastic snark all the way through. Lately it seems like Loli is bearing out a truth mentioned on Caray years ago. Sometimes more fun is to be had with bad novelas from the patio's point of view than with good ones.
Let me clarify, I don't hate this novela. It's just that they've gone overboard with slapstick comedy in a LOT of episodes.
I feel sorry for the actor portraying Victoria. She may be typecast as "she who shall not be mentioned" in any other role. At this point Viewerville just groans every time she appears.
Well Brian is turning out to be as pesky as Salvador (El Renegado) ever was. He just constantly pops up and foils chances for Rafa and Loli to talk to each other. Laughed out loud at: "FINALLY; we needed that position 98 episodes ago".
Was that the first time we saw Paulina's Wall of Fame? Your "love me" aside was perfect. I gagged a little when I saw it. And she's just constantly oblivious to what Rafa says, probably because he needs Viewerville to write his scripts. He just mildly says something about not putting their personal lives on the radio when he needs to yell at her that HE HATES WHEN SHE DOES THAT!
I got a kick out of all the Sam turning into Leo references.
I also do not understand Bruno's plan. Of course, if there really WAS any money, Chente's brazen plan to have it put in another account than GR's would be excellent evidence.
I didn't quite understand what Angie had to do with the email and letter from Sam or even how Rafa got it. Is it because Sam thinks of GR as the only possible way to ask the family member of the donor to let her thank them? Is this akin to only one social worker in Los Angeles? And, by the way, Loli just got the kids back with absolutely no input from Bertha and her crew?
Gosh, thank you novelera, you make me blush! With just a few to go, we do have to make guacamole out of the avocados they toss our way.
Angie got involved because after Paulina deleted the email that came to Rafa from the organ donor organization with the letter from Sam, Paulina was in panic mode and now realizes that email with Sam’s letter to the anonymous donor family is still in Rafa’s computer inbox. Sam has no idea her heart is Leo’s. She was just sending a thank you to the donor heart family via the organization and hoping to know if they were interested in communicating with her.
I think I had a glimpse or two of the Pauline shrine, but last night it was on full display.
I actually have enjoyed this novela even though it has dragged on a bit too long with silliness. What did happen to Bertha? Great question!
And Karen! I had forgotten all about her. And Salvador. Sal can stay away, unless he wants to take Victoria off of Octavio's hands and leave Octavio for someone on The Patio, but maybe Karen and Brian would be good together when Loli and Rafa inevitably end up together. Poor Jess. She needs to go far away to college and get away from her parents.
What's with trusting Bruno to dress the avocado farmers as rich men? Or with anything else, really, but fashion is less his thing than most things. Should have brought Carol into this scheme. She wouldn't be worse.
Kelly
Tonight I will put up a recap. But last night's episode was so awful I felt like jumping ship.
The way Gaviota was treated by most of the Vallejos was simply awful. Sebas didn't help by letting Lucía paw him during the interminable photo session with the padrinos.
Lucrecia is insufferable. Even Lucía admitted that the food Lemarcos and Marcela prepared was delicious, but she'd rather hate on her new sister-in-law for, as far as I can tell, some twisted solidarity with Lucía. And the nutty reason for this is because Marcela approved of Sebas falling for Gaviota.
I am NOT in the mood for weeks of bad treatment of the heroine. It's too much like older novelas in which we see a poor, humble heroine suffer misfortune for over 100 episodes.
VVS, thanks VERY VERY much for your wonderful recap! I've been away from my computer all day and so was not able to comment until now. I have very little to add to the great comments already offered by dondi356 and novelera. I loved your side coments, such as "(Ugh, I just hate it that Victoria is the one…)." I agree!! And I laughed out loud at “the Paulina “I Love Me” wall.” Perfect!
I couldn't believe that Vicente could believe that the two idiots Bruno found actually might have some money. What, they grew rich from "avocado lite" and "dairy-free"???
Tuesday's episode starts in a little more than an hour, and I've got stuff to do before it starts, so I'll end this now.
Kelly, I just saw your comments as well. I also felt sorry for Jess as she definitely is not a priority for her parents.
I agree novelera that it is depressing/upsetting to see the elitism of Julia, Paula and the other guests. But Bernardo, Marcela, Lemarcos, Arthur are supportive of Gaviota and Sebas’ relationship.
Like you, I don’t want to see her humiliated for 100 episodes but I think she and Carmenza are going to succeed in some business areas and display their strength and intelligence. I hope so!
I did not like how Sebas abandoned her for most of the wedding! I did not understand all of her conversation with Sebas at the end of the episode, very few Spanish subtitles, but she seemed to tell Sebas all that happened with Octavio’s gifting of the land and even how Ivan tried once again to abuse her. Looking forward to tonight’s episode. And thanks for your willingness to recap tonight!
VVS
I just love your recaps! Your snark is perfectly placed. And the asides you come up with, such as: "Ugh, I just hate it that Victoria is the one…). Okay, I will stop., are hilarious!!!
Why can't Octavio end up with Loli? I really don't like the whole Rafa/Paulina thing. Thank goodness I don't like wimpy, indecisive men.
Café con Aroma de Mujer – Martes – Parte 1 de 2
WORST WEDDING EVER! And I attended one in Las Vegas where the bride got drunk, punched the groom, and spent the night in jail!
We again see Gaviota explain to Sebas about the intended gift to she and her mother by Don Octavio. Sebas asks about la compraventa (sales contract). Gaviota says she didn’t understand what it was about and then discovered that, by breaking it, they’d owe more money than they’d ever earn. Sebas promises to get back to Gaviota and her mother the 7 million pesos they gave Don O.
Ivan had a quickie with Marcia in the bathroom, on his wedding day. He comes out and runs into Lucrecia, who wonders where he’s been. She goes on to tell him about how vulgar that woman was..Marcia.
Maricucha is so comfortable working with Marcela and Lemarcos that she accidentally tuteos them and is embarrassed.
Lucrecia proceeds to drink a LOT. The well-off guests are raving about the food and proceed to give Lemarcos all the credit, while Marcela walks off with a black look on her face.
When the siblings are gathered for a family photo, Lucia takes advantage to approach Gaviota. She lies through her teeth saying that she and Sebas were about to get married and were SO happy in New York.
Sebas accuses Ivan of not honoring their father’s word about giving the land to Gaviota and Carmenza. He also mentions about Ivan bothering Gaviota. Ivan says that Gaviota was the one coming on to him and just ask his mother about it. Sebas looks him in the eye and tells him that, if it happens again, it won’t just be he, Sebas, that will be upset. The police will be the ones upset.
Lucia begs Lucrecia that she fix it so Sebas is not named the financial head of the company so he’ll return to New York. Lucrecia, getting drunker, says that she doubts that would fix things. She sees that Sebas is in love with Gaviota.
Leonidas and Aurelio are drinking and talking in some area on the hacienda. Aurelio has noticed Leonidas’ feelings for Gaviota. Arthur joins them, quite happy to escape the boring, awkward wedding party. He shows his feelings about hierarchy, saying that the very food they eat is provided by the campesinos.
Carmenza is offering a tray of drinks, when Lucia trips her. The red wine goes all over Lucrecia’s dress and she begins to shriek insults at Carmenza. Paula calls Carmenza an imbecile. Gaviota stands up for her mother. Sebas comes up. Gaviota tells him that they are insulting her mother. She starts to leave, but then comes back. She tells them that she doesn’t understand how people so well bred can behave like they’d never set foot inside a school. “Don Octavio said it. To be decent you need more than money in your pocket.” She walks off. Julia faints.
Lucrecia realizes that Lucia tripped Carmenza on purpose.
Café con Aroma de Mujer – Martes – Parte 1 de 2
Margara has brought some food to the drivers waiting outside. She greets Wilson. This is the guy she met up with at the fair, and I had the feeling that something was up between these two. Maybe they are siblings; don’t know the exact relationship. Wilson tells her he now works for a great guy, Carlos Mario. Margara tells him about how Gaviota stopped the kidnapping of Don Octavio. Whoops, looks like Wilson was one of the guys who tried the kidnapping, and for C.M.
Gaviota tells Carmenza about the bad treatment she received at the wedding.
Sebas apologizes to Julia about the unpleasantness at the wedding. She sets her jaw and says he should now realize how impossible his relationship with Gaviota is.
Paula: “You spent so many years studying abroad only to end up with a vulgar campesina!” Sebas: “Being a campesina doesn’t make her vulgar. You criticize people so easily when you haven’t done a worth while thing in your life.” After he walks out, Bernie sticks up for Gaviota.
Gaviota talks with Leonidas on the outskirts of the hacienda and says what she thinks about the way those people behaved. Leonidas tells her that he’s going out of the country for a month. He’s going to Africa to take some coffee cultivation course. He tells her not to forget, while he’s gone, that no one can interfere with her dreams.
Lucia has come to Sebas’ room. She lies some more, saying she didn’t even know who Gaviota was. It's mentioned that they are both flying back to NYC the next day.
Carlos Mario finds out that Gaviota was the one who foiled the kidnapping plot. He threatens Wilson and tells him to stay away from Gaviota in case she can recognize him.
Margot, who was only sort of crabby up until now. Has gone to the dark side. She reveals herself as a real jackass and criticizes Gaviota for having the nerve to be above her station. Margara gets right in her face and calls her una asalarida arrodillada (a salaried employee always on her knees to the bosses).
Sebas comes to the little cottage to apologize to Carmenza. He does so and asks if he can speak to Gaviota. She says that Gaviota has gone to Don Pedro’s club
Marcela calls out her family for the way they behaved. When Ivan goes into a rant about his brother, Marcela says that it’s no wonder he stays in New York the way you obviously hate him.
At the bar Gaviota is sitting talking with Leonidas when Sebas arrives. He buys a bottle and joins them. Leonidas gets the hint that he has something to say and leaves.
Gaviota gets up and leaves him sitting there. She stands up to introduce a song about an impossible love that is better left alone.
Sebas looks grim and that’s the end of the episode.
The episode starts with Braindead Bruno saying to Paulina and Vicente that he didn't hear them say anything about hating Loli. He assures them that he's no snitch (soplón). He continues, "If I were on Loli's side, would I be looking for [phony] investors for my [crooked] boss, Vicente? I just landed [in my dreams] a $500,000 investment." Pau says she trusts Bruno, and then she leaves. Vicente, too, claims that he is going to trust Bruno.
Octavio brings Nicky back to his place upstairs at Hunky Bar. Nicky tells him about a tongue-twister he learned. Suddenly Victoria and Andrés appear with green balloons. They're there to celebrate Nicky's non-birthday.
Vicente and Bruno are meeting with the supposed Rodriguez brothers. Vicente tells them that everything seems fine except that he still needs all the documentation about their business. Bruno tells Vicente that he has spoken with the brothers' lawyer, and that today they'll be sending all the requested documents. Vicente then tells the brothers that if they invest an additional 30%, they'd be guaranteed the best ad space at Global Radio. One of the two "brothers" asks, "Would you want that 30% included with the first payment?" Vicente replies, "No, it goes to a different account. I'll tell you later where to transfer it." Vicente leaves, and an ecstatic Bruno declares, "He just admitted to robbing funds!" He points to a phone set to record under the table.
Pau announces that she doesn't feel comfortable or welcome at Global Radio, and that Rafa feels uncomfortable working with both Loli and Pau. So Pau proposes a dinner to smooth things out. Rafa agrees, "We can put our personal problems behind us." Pau puts her head on Rafa's shoulder. Loli puts her head on Brian's shoulder.
Sam goes to the door. Octavio, Gabe, and Nicky come in. "Why are you wearing that superman suit?" Sam asks. Nicky looks crestfallen. Nora then appears, carrying a cake. "Here's a cake," she says. "I don't know why it's here if it's no one's birthday." Everyone then wishes Nicky a happy un-birthday.
Bruno is beside himself with joy. "Bruno saves Global Radio" he shouts. The "Rodriguez brothers" urge him to play what they've captured on the recording. He turns it on. Oops. Nada.
At Paulina's dinner, Rafa asks Brian whether it's unethical to date a former patient. Loli asks about the ethics of pretending to be happy in order to sell a book [here's looking at you, Pau]. Loli says she thinks they should call it a night, before things get bad. Pau says that they should first toast, "To love." Loli agrees. "I believe in love. That's why I'm taking a chance on an man who is incredible, talented, thoughtful, and smart." An agitated Brian turns to Loli and says, "Loli, that man is Raphael! Admit it!"
Carol comes into her bedroom, takes out her phone, and texts, "I'm bored. Anyone have a plan?" To her horror, her so-called friends text back nasty comments like "Novio stealer," "You're not invited to my house," and "#TeamSam." She texts back a response, only to find that she's been kicked out of the chats and blocked.
Mati tells Lupe that he has made up with Rox, thanks to Brian. Mati says, "I'm convinced that Brian is the best therapist in the world." Lupe agrees. Brian has helped her recognize that "I've always denied my desire to be a mother." She then suggests, "I could be your surrogate."
Victoria arrives at Octavio's. Octavio is surprised--had they planned a meeting? No, says Victoria, but every time we plan something, it gets disrupted. So let's be spontaneous! And they spontaneously kiss. And kiss.
Rafa is at Pau"s. His phone rings, and he answers it. "Yes, this is Raphael Contreras. No, I never received an email or a letter. Who's calling?"
Brian is helping Loli by carrying in a new, heavy microwave oven. Suddenly he drops it--on his foot. At the same time, Loli's phone rings. It's Vicente, announcing that the Global Radio board has said that GR is missing too much money. The board wants to declare bankruptcy. Vicente continues, smugly, "You tried to save Global Radio, but that just called their attention to the terrible financial shape the station was in." Loli isn't cowed by his nastiness. She tells him, "I'm going to make sure you return every centavo!" Vicente replies, "First, you have to prove I did this. Good luck with that!" I should point out that at the same time that she's dealing with Vicente, she's also trying to help Brian, who is in pain from the microwave falling on his foot. Brian insists that he doesn't need to get medical treatment, and he leaves. Loli tries to call Rogelio, but there's no answer.
Back at Pau's, Rafa is still on the phone. He tells the caller, "It was an anonymous donor. Please re-send the email and the letter."
Lupe tells Mati and Arturo to take their time in making a decision about her offer to be their surrogate...and let her know in the morning. [Time for Lupe is apparently measured in minutes.] After she leaves, Mati is wanting to take her up on her offer, but Arturo doesn't agree. "Didn't you hear what she said?" he asks Mati. "She wants to be a mother, not a surrogate."
Rafa tells Loli that Brian is not for her, he won't make her happy. Loli tells him to stop being jealous, we need to help Rogelio save Global Radio.
Rox and Romeo are at Rox's place. They're about to have a drink when Rox's phone rings. It's Cesar. "Cesar, I miss you. A lot" "Me too, Rox," says Cesar, who is standing at Rox's door. She opens the door. Oops, Cesar sees Romeo and immediately leaves. Rox tries to phone him, but he doesn't answer. Rox tells Romeo that Cesar is special. Romeo realizes, "This is the first time you're in love. I'm happy for you. Give it all you've got."
At Pau's, Pau tells Rafa, "Global Radio can't declare bankruptcy. It's all Loli's fault. No one noticed the financial problems until Loli started uncovering them. She always has to be in the center of things." Rafa is clearly not pleased with what Pau is saying. He tells her he's not spending the night, and he leaves to return to his place. After he's gone, Pau calls Vicente. "I hope you know what you're doing," she tells him. "You're hurting not just Loli but my parents, Rafa, and me." [As if he cares.]
Mati and Arturo aren't sure what to do. They say they need someone to help them. They both agree they'll talk to Lupe.
It's now the next morning. Sam and Loli wish Nicky a happy birthday. Loli asks whether he's ready for a surprise. She hands him her cellphone, on which she has Mariana's videos. The one Loli clicks on for Nicky has Mariana singing Happy Birthday to Nicky. She's making a cake and has put on it a candle in the shape of a 9. She also has a present for him. Months ago, she arranged a trip to NASA, something Nicky has long wanted. She tells him, "I love you to infinity." Nicky is crying. Octavio comes by and he, too, wishes Nicky a Happy Birthday. Nicky asks him whether he invited Nicky's bio dad, Raúl. He was supposed to pick Nicky up from school the day before, but he couldn't. [I too am wondering what's with Raúl. I'd really like to see Octavio be the only father in Nicky's life.] Domingo then arrives, bringing a bouquet of flowers from Brian.
Bruno admits to Melissa and Carol that they'd almost caught Vicente in the act of diverting money for GR into a different account, but alas the phone failed to record. Bruno is practicing how to make the phone record so that he'll do it right the next time. He also mentions that Altimio and Felipe have bailed out. Melissa looks at him admiringly--he's so brave to be willing to do this by himself. [Arrgh]
Lupe sees Brian with his foot in a cast. She's afraid that's a bad luck sign. She then asks whether he knows that Global Radio is declaring bankruptcy. No, he didn't know.
Pau tells Rafa that she called her parents, and her father has agreed to invest more money in Global Radio and to recruit other investors. But on one condition: he wants Loli to call Rogelio and say he should have no part in the station. Rafa tells her, "Loli won't do that. Moreover, we'd be leaving the station in Vicente's hands. Don Rogelio won't permit that." Pau replies, "It's that, or GR goes under." Raphael says, "Rogelio retiring should be his decision. Why bring Loli into this?" Pau claims that Loli is the only one Rogelio will listen to.
Rox talks on her show about there being two kinds of people: those who give up and those who fight for what they want. "I'm the second kind. I'll fight for the people I love--Loli Aguilar and Don Rogelio Varela. I've seen Loli overcome every obstacle that came her way. From Don Rogelio, I learned to love radio. Today I have the honor of handing the microphone to the Father of Global Radio, Don Rogelio." Don Rogelio talks about his childhood in Mexico, and his opportunity in the United States to buy a failing radio station and make it into a big company. "The company is my family. Today, that family is fighting. My fans, my partners, my associates, Global Radio will not give up. Where there's life, there's hope. I'm alive, more alive than ever. I won't give up. For family, you fight until the end."
Paulina comes to see Rafa. "Did you hear Rogelio?" she asks. "He's not leaving. Loli is the only one who can convince him, and you know it."
Vicente comes to see Loli in her office. "I came to save Global Radio," he tells her. "Are you going to return the money you stole?" Loli asks. Vicente replies, "Quit the board and save the radio station." "Oh, is that all?" Loli asks sarcastically. "You think I'm going to leave and let you do whatever you want?" Vicente tells her to focus on what's important. "While you're trying to destroy me, Paulina and Rafa are trying to get my station." Loli asks, "What interest would Rafa have in taking the station from me?" Vicente replies, "Rafa, no, but Paulina, yes. So focus, Loli, on what's most important. Quit the board and save the station you love so much." And with that, the episode ends.
I really enjoyed your recap Juanita, thank you! For whatever reason I was having a hard time understanding some of the conversations, but you covered everything I missed.
I am glad that Nicky’s un-birthday was celebrated appropriately thanks to Octavio, even if Victoria was involved. Looks like Raul is the loser DNA dad. Octavio fits the role more than enough to cover.
Of course, Bruno’s brilliant idea to record Chente was fouled by his brilliant stupidity. I am glad Carol is getting blocked by her so-called friends.
So I think Lupe and Brian should end up together. She has said more than once how much he helped her, maybe that is a romance in waiting.
The whole recorded video from Mariana made me cry. Nicky’s reaction seemed so real. How fun that he is going go to NASA!
So glad Don R is putting up a fight! Chente and Paulina deserve the worst ending possible.
Novelera, thank you for your effort, it is very appreciated. I momentarily left the room while Carmenza "dropped" the tray so I wasn't sure of what had happened. Lucia is slowly leaving mean girl territory and entering novela villain land.
How can it be that with all the bad guys around I find Lucrecia to be the worst ? Lucia has her reasons, as stupid as they are, but Luc should really mind her own business and keep an eye on her husband.
I have a feeling Lemarcos and Marcela are headed for trouble. We can't have a happy couple so soon in the story, right?
I was surprised to see that Margara was connected to the guy who set up Don O's kidnapping. During her talk with him at tha fair he specifically asked "do they know" and she said "no, but it doesn't matter". This new révélation gives that conversation new meaning. I think Ivan had no clue about the kidnapping, like he had no clue about Javier. He'll turn out to be CM's patsy... unless the guy kills him first when he finds out about Marcia.
Thanks so much for turning straw into gold, Juanita! I loved your asides!
During the episode whenever Nicky was in a part of it, I kept hearing that Disney song playing in my head. "A very merry unbirthday to you, to you." It was from Alice in Wonderland.
Paulina was listening to Rafa's phone conversation with the organ donor people because of course she was. She'd listen to him having a conversation with a spammer trying to fix his overdue federal taxes.
The whole bankruptcy thing was one of the stupidest things they've come up with. I don't understand Vicente's motivation. And Pau, ditto. Why does she want Rogelio out of GR in exchange for her parents financial help. I expected her to say it was that Loli would be out of GR.
Time is running out for Mati and Art to find a surrogate. Art was right. THEY want to be parents, not have Lupe teaching the child to purposefully listen to others' conversations.
Something is up with Raúl and I don't really know what it is. I hope that he hasn't committed a crime and is back in the slammer. But I do think that Octavio is the best choice to be his father.
So Victoria went a long way toward total acceptance with that un-birthday celebration she arranged for Nicky.
Would like to say more but I need to get some reading done for my Zoom Spanish class at 3 PM. We used to meet at a classroom through the adult school at a local high school. Now we're on Zoom at least this quarter and maybe next. We're reading a book of short stories by Daniel Sada, an excellent Mexican writer. We also read a novel of his a couple of years ago: Una de dos about a very odd pair of identical twins, female.
Thank you novelera for the wedding details and recap. Sounds like the wedding you attended in Vegas was quite something!
I thought the location, decorations, flowers and lack of shade for this wedding was definitely a bad idea. The wedding guests were so snotty. I know that Carlos Mario is a bad guy who apparently is responsible for trying to kidnap Don Octavio, but I was so glad he and Marcia crashed the wedding! How interesting to learn that Marcia worked with Gaviota as a coffee bean collector. I was happy Gaviota had someone to talk to while Sebas was being pawed by Lu. Marcia was also very quick to defend Carmenza and Gaviota from those vicious vipers! Unfortunately, her taste in men definitely leaves a lot to be desired.
The comments regarding Gaviota and her dress from those mean girls was awful. I thought Paula’s dress looked like something off a clown’s costume.
Sebas was in a bad spot all around last night. He didn’t seem to believe the lies spewing out of Ivan or Lucia.
Sounds like Leonidas might be setting Gaviota up to be a sort of union boss for all the finca workers.
You are so right Adriana Noel, Lucrecia is horrible. She deserves a loser for a husband and a best friend who is willing to tank/trip up her wedding to get her man back.
Thanks very much, VVS and novelera, for your supportive and insightful comments. VVS, I too was having trouble understanding some parts, and the captions didn't always help. I confess that at times, if I get the gist but not the actual statement, I, um, improvise :-).
I'm intrigued by your idea of Lupe and Brian as a couple. That had never occurred to me, but in some ways it makes good sense. The problem is that I feel considerably more sympathetic to Brian than to Lupe. She'd be getting a perceptive, sympathetic guy, while he'd be getting...the Queen of Gossip. However, it's clear that both of them would like to find someone, and she certainly adores him. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I too was close to tears during Mariana's video. The videos are an interesting gimmick on the writers' part. Mariana apparently did nothing else in the last few months of her life than make videos for Loli and the kids.
Novelera, I loved your snarky comments, such as "She'd listen to him having a conversation with a spammer trying to fix his overdue federal taxes." Yes, and then she'd try to turn what she'd heard into fodder for her books.
And I also loved "THEY want to be parents, not have Lupe teaching the child to purposefully listen to others' conversations." Perfect!
Muchas gracias for your detailed recap Novelera.
I thought this was an excellent episode. I saw Gaviota come into her strength snd self confidence. Loved her speech at the end when she told them them that Octavio believed in decency above money!
Lu lies over and over again; she was responsible for hiring Carmenza, tripping her, plus she knew Gaviota was Sebas’ novia; etc. She and Lucrecia a have gone from mean to evil!
I’m glad Lemarcos’ cooking was appreciated but didn’t like that Marcela wasn’t acknowledged, part of the family’s punishment because she supports Gaviota!
I’m really liking Leonidas. Loved that he encouraged Gaviota to pursue her studies, even suggesting she take courses over the internet. He sees the potential she has to organize and lead. In many ways, a relationship with him could be more fulfilling than one with Sebas! And I think he’s very Guapo!
I’m late to the party. Thanks so much, Juanita. Great recap with wonderful asides. I don’t have anything to add to the recap and great comments by VVS and novelera.
So much for Victoria wanting to wait until Octavio got over Loli. I’ll never like her for Octavio.
Lupe and Brian is interesting, VVS.

That wedding would have been better for everyone if people had paid more attention to the people getting married instead of focusing on one invited guest or having sex with someone other then the person they had just married two commercial breaks before.
Maybe we need a recap of that Las Vegas wedding as a chaser! I did like the relationship of Carlos and Marcia. They aren't likeable people, but they seem fun and good together (or would be if she'd stop with Ivan).
Poor Marce. She needs to bail on her family. Right after having a come to Jesus with Lemarcos. He tried to make sure she got credit but maybe not hard enough, although I'm pretty sure the two Lu's are being jerks on purpose.
And poor Paula, falling in love with a commie. That is totes not going to look good on her 'gram.
Kelly
Thanks, dondi356, for your helpful comment. Yesterday I was the one coming late to the party, so I do understand. And yes, it seems more and more that Victoria will be the one for Octavio. (Perhaps my saying this will jinx it--I so often get these things wrong. I'm hoping this will be one of those times.)
A couple of thoughts...
Seems like Carlos Marios’ father is an honest man, much like Octavio. Sebas gave Carlos Mario a big hug when he realized who his father was.
I wonder if Marcia has any idea how cruel Carlos Mario is; corrupt, a murderer and a failed kidnapper. She is playing with fire having an affair with Ivan!
Wednesday Quickie - #100
There was a LOT of talk about how to save Global Radio and who invests and whether Don R and/or Loli are going to leave. Feel free to talk in the comments; it is starting to be a bit tiresome.
Sam and Jess make up. Sam tells Jess she and Gabriel are back together. Carol approaches and begs Sam to help her stop the online hate.
Bruno seems to have gotten his phone to record, but he drops it under Chente’s desk.
The two villains have a no-heart to no-heart (Pau and Chente) talk. When she tells him about Sam getting Leo’s heart he rubs it in about this uniting Loli and Rafa.
Rox tells Loli about Cesar finding her with Romeo.
Raul has been missing, but Octavio finds him and convinces him to come to Nicky’s birthday party.
Loli tells Rafa about what Vicente told her…that Rafa and Pau want to own Global Radio.
Melissa finally figures out how awful Carol is. She was kissing Sam’s boyfriend while Sam was in the ICU.
Cesar won’t listen to Rox. Dulce comes to GR and almost convinces novelera that she wants to help Cesar be happy. This is right up until she handcuffs Rox to the steering wheel.
Octavio tells Loli, more or less, that Rafa is better for her than Bryan.
Bruno and Mel decide to set some limits for Carol. But she’s somehow able to call Marcelino and doesn’t show up to school the next day.
Jess overhears her mother telling Angie about Sam having Leo’s heart and that she, Pau, isn’t supposed to know about this.
Vicente and Rufinto talk, saying some incriminating things. [Wouldn’t that phone have kept recording nada all night and thus not be able to record in the morning?]
Jess comes to ask Rafa if Sam has Leo’s heart. She’s SO pleased it’s true. She, Rafa and Loli embrace in Rafa’s GR office while Pau looks on, fuming.
Saint Octavio offers Raul some sort of partnership in Hunky Bar.
Bruno actually manages to get the phone off the floor. Hopefully he got something useful.
Loved your quickie recap, novelera! You captured just about everything, and added some terrific snark. I especially liked "The two villains have a no-heart to no-heart (Pau and Chente) talk."
Yes, Dulce had me half-fooled as well. But only half.
I had been hoping that Raúl wouldn't be found. Sigh. I did find Octavio's talk with him very moving. Octavio continues to be my hero. Alas, as you say, "Saint Octavio" even offers Raúl a job at Hunky Bar.
So Carol has disappeared. Raise you hand if you miss her. No, I didn't think so. Me neither. Now if we can just make her parents disappear....
I wondered the same thing about the phone. If Bruno had succeeded in turning it on to record this time, it would have recorded all night when there was nothing to record. Moreover, that would probably have depleted the phone's battery. But I guess we can't ignore Telenovela Magic.
I did enjoy two things near the end. One was Bruno's attempt to get his phone out from under Vicente's desk without Vicente realizing what he was doing. The other was Pau's unhappiness at seeing Jess and Loli in a group hug with Rafa.
Gotta run. I've got an OLLI course starting in 4 minutes.
Here is a little of what I can remember from last night.
We didn't get to hear the song but Gaviota sang and went back to the table. The conversation with Sebas was about how didn't defend her, but they later made up, with him forcing a kiss on her that she couldn't resist. They later spent the night at the spot they spent their first night together, they even curved something on the tree with their names. Sebas left Gaviota his phone so they'd keep in touch. The next morning they said their goodbyes.
Marce and Lemarcos had a beautiful conversation. Him assuring her that she had no need to feel insecure.
Paula broke up with Arthur after a video call with a guy called Martin(they haven't met. They saw each others photos online)
Also, did anyone notice some spark between Arthur and Margarita during the wedding? Or was it just me?
Gabriela came to the studio to seduce Bernado. But he couldn't do it, he gave excuses. Then received a voice message from Carlos(the guy he beat up) they agreed to see each other in Bogota.
Marcia told Carlos Mario about Sebas wanting to work at Café Elite. Later we saw him telling Wilson that he had thought of a way for him to make up for his mistake(the failed kidnapping)
Julia talked to Lucia before she and Sebas left for NY. Julia told her to change her strategy if she wanted to get Sebas back, by not pressuring him and understanding him better.
Sebas gave Julia Gaviota & Carmenzas money so she could return it after he left. And made her promise not to fire them until he got back.
Carmenza asked Gaviota to apologize to Julia. The episode ended with Gaviota at the big house, looking for Julia.
The Wednesday Quickie is just perfect novelera! Like Juanita, I loved the great comments especially: “The two villains have a no-heart to no-heart (Pau and Chente) talk.” and “Dulce comes to GR and almost convinces novelera (and totally convinces VVS) that she wants to help Cesar be happy. This is right up until she handcuffs Rox to the steering wheel.” I was totally snookered! I thought Dulce really did set up a nice romantic dinner for Rox and Cesar. I am a novela novice for sure!
I just adore Saint Octavio. He has been so kind to everyone and I was with you Juanita, I sort of hoped Raul had fallen off the face of the earth.
I also hope Carol stays missing as well!
Here is hoping that Bruno and the everlasting phone battery might actually be the hero for Don R and Global Radio! Lots of hope for the last few episodes!
Thanks so much, mwendwaE, for your recap.
Paula has got to be in for some anvils falling on her sleek little head. Arthur is well out of that family. But, having seen so many telenovelas, I doubt he's permanently out.
I can't imagine what awful thing CM has planned. I was afraid for Gaviota when Margara spilled the beans to Wilson. CM's evil face got very dark when he thought Sebas might come to work for the family business.
Julia has not given Lucia good advice. If this were not a telenovela that needed a female antagonist, the best thing for Lucia would be to move on, not try new strategies as her wanna-be mother-in-law is suggesting.
What a nice surprise mwendwaE! I appreciate the highlights from the episode last night. Gaviota was right to let Sebas know how she felt and Sebas is realizing that this isn’t going to be as easy as he thought.
I think Arthur is better off with Margarita than that good for nothing snob Paula. I didn’t notice a spark but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there!
It never occurred to me that Julia would fire Gaviota and Carmenza, but why not? The Elitist of Café Elite is not going to let those two stay around, even if she did promise Sebas not to do anything until he got back.
I don’t care how high society Gabriela is, she sure was pretty slutty practically trying to rape Bernie in his dad’s study with all the doors wide open. Gay or not, I don’t think any guy (except Ivan) would be into that action knowing his mom might walk in at any moment!
Sebas is way too nice to Lucia. I hope he keeps Gaviota on speed dial!
