Julieta’s live announcement continues. She states that she and Sergio are muy happy; Sergio plays along and agrees. After a few other (tense) comments, Serg announces that they will continue with the next topic.
Miranda rushes to Yuri and complains about having another sibling. After Yuri complains about how they had to find out this way, Miranda comments that it hasn’t even been 24 hours that they found out about Lucas and wonders what is wrong with their father (let me count the ways…oh never mind, it won’t fit in one page!)
Martin tries to convince Alicia to continue their relationship, but Alicia insists that their relationship is a mistake; it is destined to fail. Martin argues that he is not Sergio and they shouldn’t pay for Sergio’s mistakes. Alicia insists that it’s best for both of them; he should return to his world…go out with people his age, get married and have kids. Their relationship was destined to be brief. After she thanks him for giving her the most beautiful love story and showing her how love can be pure and beautiful, she tells him she loves him and gives him a last kiss. Alicia walks out, but Martin follows; he will not allow her to leave so easily…he doesn’t care what others think. When brings up asks his daughter, Martin tells her that Sofi will have to get used to it…Sofi shouldn’t have a father that is eternally sad. Alicia insists that it is too much; she has too many things going on and she doesn’t know what to do with her fears or how to convert her fears into happiness. After Martin argues that she needs to make her own happiness, Alicia persists with her argument that she doesn’t want to hold him back; though it’s killing her, she made that decision out of love.
After Sergio’s interview ends, he asks Juls why she did it, but they are interrupted by the cast who congratulates Juls. Fabian asks Serg what this is about so Sergio tells him it is just another of Juls’s plays. He wanted to end it and send Juls to her house. Fabian points out how Juls is enjoying her success and big night.
Karina goes to visit Martin who is not in a good mood. Karina tells him that she is only there because she thought he could use a friend and some advice. Martin scoffs since she seems to hate Alicia ever since she met her. Karina argues that hate is a strong word; she only sees what everyone else sees…that their relationship has no future. After she advises him to respect Alicia’s decision, she tells him the Trompeta is back.
Susu goes to visit Gonzo who notes that something is off and asks why Susu came over without calling first. Susu tells him to not be a party pooper and wants to have some drinks.
Eva and Rebeca tell Alicia that Juls announced on TV that she is expecting Sergio’s child…what will the whole country say?! Alicia tells them that nothing surprises her anymore…the only thing that worries her is how her children will react to having a new sibling. Eva cries when she sees that her club friends are already calling about it. Rebeca offers Alicia some coffee but Alicia prefers whiskey. Rebeca then notices that Alicia is upset; so Alicia confides that she is dying of sadness. Meanwhile. Martin is drinking his sorrows away as he recalls Alicia’s words that their relationship was destined to be brief.
Now at Casa Carr-azy, Serg chides Juls for announcing her pregnancy on TV. When Juls tells him that it generated a lot of publicity, Sergio grabs her phone and throws it to the floor. Yuri and Miranda approach and congratulate Juls…snarking at how they found out. Juls apologizes since she should have told them first, but she got very emotional and just wanted to share their happiness. Juls hopes that their new sibling will receive the welcome he deserves. …and she hopes they will treat her better now that she will be giving them a new sibling.
Susu is reaching the stratosphere fi;;ed with drugs and alcohol. When Lorena goes to get some snacks, Gonzo asks Susu if he is taking drugs again. When Sus tells him that he got some good stuff, Gonzo tells him that they don’t allow drugs there. Lorena returns with the snacks, but Gonzo tells her that Susu has to leave.
At Casa Carrangst, Yay asks Sergio if he is feeling alright and if he is taking his high blood pressure meds. Sergio doesn’t know. When Yuri approaches, Sergio hopes she didn’t come to reproach him; he needs peace…and a hug. Yuri tells him that he needs to do his part…his life is in chaos. When Sergio tells her that he misses Alicia, Yuri tells him that he shouldn’t be saying that after he brought Juls to the house.
Alicia and Rebeca talk about her break up with Martin. Rebeca wonders if Alicia wants to be alone for the rest of her life, so Alicia tells her that Martin is still very young and he doesn’t have to suffer the problems she will have as she ages. Rebeca reminds her that they knew it would be a risky relationship but at least Alicia allowed herself to go through with it. Alicia agrees; at least she was able to experience a pure love, but her heart is breaking and Martin’s heart is breaking too…but time heals everything.
Fabian goes to visit Martin who tells him that everything was fine with Alicia until he went on his trip. When Diablo asks if something happened with Mabel, Martin admits that Mabel tried but it didn’t happen…and Alicia didn’t find out about it. Diablo thinks that Alicia must have assumed that there was something…and Alicia has just been through a separation that resulted form infidelities. Martin sighs as he tells him that he doesn’t want to lose the love of his life.
Gonzo is driving Susu home. Suso is playing with a baggie of drugs, and when Gonzo tries to take it from him, Gonzo loses control of the car and they are stopped by the cops. Gonzo tells Suso not to speak and hopes that he hid the drugs. The cop approaches and notes that the car doesn’t belong to Gonzo; so Susu tells him that the car is his, but he is in no condition to drive. After the cops search the car and find the drugs, they arrest both Susu and Gonzo.
Juls asks Serg if he is still upset and if he doesn’t want to enjoy her body while he still can. Serg tells her he is tired.
Miranda talks to Culebra as we get a clear promo of Lays potato chips. Miranda wants to upload her bullying campaign to the web so it can go viral. When Culebra suggests that she ask Juls for help, Miranda shuts down the idea...she isn’t asking that witch for anything. After he suggests that they ask her father help, Miranda shuts down that idea too since her father is too busy with all these children that are coming out of the woodwork. Miranda comments that her family is not helping her out of her depression.
At the police station, Gonzo and Susu are being photographed and processed when Mujica comes in and recognizes Gonzo as Sergio’s son. Gonzo’s phone rings but he is not allowed to answer Lorena’s call. Gutierrez takes them to a cell and tells them that he will soon bring them another cellmate (wann guess who?). Cholo is brought in and recognizes Gonzo. Gonzo also recognizes him as the one who fell in love with his sister.
Next morning—
Karina goes to visit Martin and hopes he is in a better mood. After Martin apologizes, they talk about Trompeta. Martin thinks that since El Toro is also back in town, they are probably working together again.
Alicia is writing in her journal when Fabian approaches. He comments that the desk is where Rebeca did her work for the university and asks if she heard about Sergio. After Alicia affirms, they both agree that Juls is dangerous. When Alicia assumes that Serg must be happy, Fabian tells him her that he is not…Serg doesn’t want to be a father again…and things are not going well between Serg and Juls. After Alicia asks about Rebeca and Fabian tells her that Rebeca is having a bout of confusion, Fedora arrives.
At Casa Carrangst, Juls gloats about the success of the news about the baby…she is happy. When Miranda comments that she thought Juls would be the type to get a surrogate so she won’t lose her figure, Juls replies that she would not miss out on the experience. Lorena then calls Serg and tells him about Gonzo being arrested and drugs are involved. After Yuri and Serg leave to the police station, Juls wonders if that family ever has peace and tranquility.
Fedora tells Alicia that Rebeca told her about her break up. When Alicia mentions Fedora’s fling with Gonzo, Fedora asks that she not bring that up anymore since friends should forgive each other and Rebeca needs them both. Alicia then gets the call from Sergio about Gonzo…and he can pick her up so that they can all go together to see Gonzo. Yaya notices that Serg didn’t take his meds.
Gonzo tells Cholo that he is there because he was helping out his friend who had drugs. Gonzo then asks Cholo to tell him his story with Yuri; so Cholo obliges. Cholo tells him that Moises is defending him but he only wants to destroy him. Mujica, Gutierrez, and Karina discuss Gonzo being arrested. Karina defends Gonzo since he had never been arrested for drugs, but Mujica points out all the other times Gonzo has been there. Gutierrez then points out that the drug baggies have a specific marking…the drug bands tend to put their logo on their goods.
The Carranza tribe arrive at the police station and Lorena explains to Alicia why Gonzo got arrested. Sergio calls Quijada, his lawyer, who tells him that he is talking to Lucas and his attorney. When the lawyer tells him that there is no chance for negotiation with Lucas, Sergio asks to talk to Lucas. Lucas taunts Serg that he is very happy to hear that he will have a new sibling. Serg tells him that he may have his last name but he will never be a Carranza. Sergio then asks to talk to Quijada and tells him that Gonzo was arrested.
Mujica calls Toro to alert him that some young guys were arrested with possession of drugs…and the baggies have his marking. Toro asks him for the names so he can look into it.
Yuri enters the jail area and thanks Karina for getting her in there. When Gonzo comes out and gives her a big hug, Yuri swears that he will be out of there that same day. From the cell, Cholo shouts out that Gonzo shouldn’t get his hopes up since lawyers tend to promise that they will get them out but end up being the biggest fakes in the world. Yuri approaches and tells Cholo that what he said isn’t true…he doesn’t understand. When Cholo tells her that he doesn’t believe in anything, Yuri tells him that she has done everything possible to help him. Karina then pulls Gonzo back in and tells Yuri that she needs to leave.
Rebeca walks in to her kitchen and doesn’t recognize Fedora. Fedora tries to calm her, but Rebeca asks Eva to make her leave. Eva tells Rebeca that Fedora has been her friend for 30 years…but it’s good that Rebeca forget her. Eva then takes Rebeca to walk in the garden.
Meche gives Lucas contact info on the news writer who is the best at publicizing gossip—Lalito Valdez (LUjs's fav reporter). Lucas calls Lalito and spills where Sergio is right now. Meanwhile, Sergio is arguing with Mujica and trying to defend Gonzo. Sergio thinks that they planted the drugs in the car to cause HIM (Sergio) harm. As Sergio starts to breathe heavily, Alicia berates Mujica for treating her son like a criminal. She then notices Sergio and tells him that they should leave.
Mabel tells Martin that she knows something is happening since he has been sitting in the chair and looking desperate. Martin admits that it is the worse day of his life…since, at the world’s request, Alicia ended things with him.
At the police station, Sergio is telling Alicia what he will do to get Gonzo out of there…they need to keep things quiet. Alicia notes that Sergio is not well and tells him to calm down. As Sergio walks outside, he is accosted by reporters who are throwing a plethora of questions at him about Gonzo being arrested. Sergio’s world spins as he passes out and falls to the ground…THUMP!!!
And so the episode ends!!
Great work, RGV Chick.
I thought I was kidding when I wrote the Karmageddon paragraph for Mujica; I now see I was on the money. I can't think of a bad enough end for him now.
There will be a shootout before this ends.
We still don't know what Guttierez is up to.
At least Miranda is holding her own.
Stellar performance by Alexis Ayala in the on-air scene where we saw how hard SerJerk had t work to cover up his anger and frustration.
And Eva still needs to pay the piper.
Rgv Chick, your recap sparked and shone brightly, brilliantly capturing all the events that conspired to further diminish Sergio’s fading star. Your title was fantastic and words of wisdom including “Casa Carr-azy” and “Casa Carrangst” made me smile broadly.
“what is wrong with their father (let me count the ways…oh never mind, it won’t fit in one page!)” was perfect and mirrored my thoughts exactly.
An adult child revealed and another conceived. Sergio’s world is indeed crashing down. Yet, Yuri treated Sergio with understanding and only a gentle admonishment. If only she had been so thoughtful to treat her mother with similar care.
Is Lucas going too far? Probably. But he is Sergio’s dirty little secret, so have at it I say.
Is there any day Gonzalo doesn’t find trouble? It is as if it has him staked out, waiting to strike. Why on earth is Lorena still there??
I was trying to count the empty beer bottles at Martin’s but couldn’t. How was he not passed our on the floor? I wonder when Diablo is going to spill the beans about Carlota.
Urban, agree Alexis has "crushed it". His reactions and facial expressions have been spot on throughout.
With the end not too far away, there is a finite number of times Martin and Alicia can break up. I have absolutely no idea how Martin ever holds on to a job (not that he has had longevity at anything since this began). Will Mabe be moved by his ugly crying and try again? Nothing’s stopped Karina, even when he and Alicia were in love. Yesterday.
At this point, I don’t think Alicia and Martin should be together. But my opinion doesn’t count, we will have to wait and see.
Rgv Chick, thank you, thank you!
Diana
Loved “Casa Carr-azy” and the rest! I didn’t even notice the Lays. Thanks, RgvChick!
Wow! They sure put that last straw on Sergio’s back before making him collapse.
Sorry, but every time I see Karina at Martín’s door, with her same old same old song no matter what else she has to say, I want to slap her.
They have done an incredible job of including Rebeca with Alzheimers as part of the plot. I had to laugh when Fedora showed up for the second time.
Gonzo, Susu and the drugs: we saw that coming. I wish I cared but I don’t.
Urban, a shootout would be a good addition. We could use some real action as a cherry on the top.
Diana, yes! If Yuri would only have been so kind to Alicia. And I thought I was the only one trying to count the bottles of beer. . . Yes! Martín is an ugly crier. ; )
Trivia: Marcus Ornellas is Brazilian.
RGV Chick - 'Death knocks at SerJerk's door'! Yes, love the title and thank you for the amazing recap!! I guess I shouldn't actually hope for his death since he has daughters who love him and actions to answer for, but my first thought when I read that was: I hope he answers!!!
Julieta to Yaya: 'Have these people ever heard the words peace and tranquility?' I mean she's not wrong...
Cholo and Gonzo bonding(ish) was kind of interesting, Gonzo seemed to really feel compassion for him. Maybe he told Gonzo something specific about Moises trying to ruin him that Gonzo can relate to Yuri to open her eyes!!! Or maybe Moises can just get hit by a bus, I was disappointed that didn't happen last night! 🙂
Alicia and Rebecca stating at least you tried.....arg! Can't blame Rebecca because she has no idea what is what, but Alicia really? You tried? When? Not rooting for this relationship because I got bored of it a long time ago, but she didn't try! She dipped her toes in and quickly pulled them back out time and time again, that isn't trying! And a woman who managed to stay married for 30 years should know the difference. I personally think she is just not ready to try yet. But I will say one more thing, just because this is a pet peeve for me. Whether or not Martin should 'have' to deal with Alicia's aging issues, is Martin's choice to make not Alicia's! This whole idea of sparing a grown man from making his own decisions about who he wants to love and how he wants to spend his life is not healthy. And in Alicia's case it is fear mascarading as 'I am doing this for you'.
I had that same promo thought about the Lays! Miranda and Cuelbra both have been shown eating Lays and drinking a Pepsi so many times and it's always plain Lays, I wonder why they don't want to promote the BBQ or the Sour Cream and Onion flavors.
I have the feeling this will have more than 80 episodes. My cable company's website shows 82 so far.
The only villain so far to bite the dust was Samuel. Nicole, Mujica, El Toro, Eva, Juleech, and SerJerk are to follow. We might need more than 5 episodes for all of them.
I found it insulting that Juleech made that remark about "peace and tranquility" when she is the cause of the turmoil. The tsunami of angst that's gone through this family began when she made sure that Alicia caught them in the act. SerJerk still doesn't know this. He'd probably have a stroke if he found out.
As for Lucas he isn't being very smart. He is up to his eyeballs in the money laundering and should not be doing anything to attract attention. I strongly doubt that he could take SerJerk to the cleaners in view of whatever money he and Prudencia got from him over the years. He has adequate education for an office job. He and his mother live in a decent apartment, presumably in a safe neighborhood. His lawsuit is pure revenge. While I can understand that he doesn't seem to realize that this will eat him alive. If there is an investigation into SerJerk's finances they're both finished.
The meeting with Tamayo in a previous episode was critical. SerJerk was looking all along to buy shares in the network and this will now not happen. The scandals so far have saved the network from future issues. Tamayo doesn't know where much or most of SerJerk's assets came from. If he had enough shares in the network he could manipulate the news division to suit his political cronies and we all know where that can lead.
Whatever happens in the next two episodes will be a great news feature for Martin.
Oops; can't understand re Lucas.
Finally, I hope this is the last breakup. Poor Nelson needs a new mum because he must be losing patience with his dad.
BTW, most male stars of these programs are ugly criers. The only ones I can recall who don't lose their handsome by way of tears are Jorge Salinas, Fernando Colunga, Pablo Montero, and -- possibly -- Eduardo Yanez.
Urban - yes I 100% agree. It was definitely hypocritical of Julieta to start all the drama and then make the statement about them not knowing peace and tranquility, but that just made it funnier in my mind. And right or wrong the moment she said it my first reaction was 'no kidding', have they ever had a family meal that didn't end in a new emergency or everyone walking out in anger?
Darcy: Big question is whether Lucas goes down next ?
UA: From what I've heard, the Gran Final is on October 11th.
Steve Boudreaux
Under the heading of Ignorance Is Bliss, their family meals were probably alright before Alicia discovered that SerJerk was doing the beast with two backs with Juleech. There was unease brewing that neither she nor SerJerk saw: Yuri's disenchantment with Moises (which predated her first meeting with Cholo), Gonzalo's realization that he didn't want to be a doctor, and Miranda's situation (which she was too embarrassed to talk about). These things may have taken a little longer to explode if the divorce hadn't happened first.
The angst at the dinner table escalated when Eva kept getting on Alicia's case about reconciliation and learning to accept that all men cheat and the daughters failed to see that such a reconciliation would be impossible without total humiliation for Alicia. Neither of them had experienced that.
Looking at the schedule and including the pre-emptions coming up, it looks like this will end up with 83 episodes with the gran final on Monday 10/11/21 as Steve said.
Jarifa, Karina is complex, to say the least. She has staunchly supported Yuri and Cholo and is a good policewoman. Yet, she is bullheaded regarding Martin! But then our non-typical galan is as well, right? Too bad it's just not in pursuit of her, refusing to take no for an answer!
I can't remember any galan who has had at least three women salivating at the thought of him, two of which are not even in a relationship with him!
Darcy, you are right. Alicia is not ready which she's shown time and again. She isn't secure enough, of herself or of Martin. Insecurity due to aging is very real and was greatly enabled due to Sergio's cheating and diminishing her as a person. If she had been able to have time alone to process her grief and mourn the loss of her marriage before she met Martin, things might have been different.
"While I can understand that he doesn't seem to realize that this will eat him alive" was spot on Urban. And I totally agree Nelson needs some stability. It wasn't lost on me that the dear dog turned his back to Martin as he bawled his eyes out. Buck up he seemed to be saying...
And Yanez is not an ugly crier I say smiling. :)
Diana
Thanks for the detailed recap..I don't know how you do it..
I believe under mex law..fetus baby would get a full share of ser assets should serg board that last train and leave this mortal coil...
Of course this is so snarled it would take years to settle. Cause you know serg has messed with assets taxes so on and so forth.
I am so sick and tired of alici
a and martin. The greatest love story evah..evah evah.
Martin cries constantly and whines to anyone who will listen..literally ANYONE. I didn't like Romeo and Juliet but adults in those wanker roles just seems sad. Why couldn't they just keep it quiet until everything shakes out? But no Martin is stalker deluxe.
And karina STFU...really He is not gonna be your fbuddy.
Diana, great take on Nelson. I found it odd that he had turned totally
away from Martín. He clearly had had enough!
Not an ugly crier either: Jaime Camil
Chick. Wow and yikes thank you thank you for delivering every grim morsel of this tragedy fest . I am still reading your spectacular recap and haven't watched the recording yet. However , I bad to drop in because I just read that Sergio told Yaya that he misses Alicia ...ha ...what he is actually saying is " I want my mommy who used to take care of me." Boo hoo. This hombre is Unbelievable. It's always about him . Awful man. Ugh
Thank you, everyone!! What a great discussion!
I definitely agree with the comments regarding Alicia and Martin. Martin has been very selfish from the getgo in his dogged pursuit of Alicia who never had a moment to breath and take in all the turmoil her family was experiencing. I really can't blame Alicia for reaching out to someone who offered her endless happiness and love, but Martin should have known that she was in no position to get into such an intense relationship. I'm with Melson...fed up with Martin! So, Diana, I fully understand why you would think that Martin and Alicia shouldn't end up together. I concur! At least not for now...maybe in a year...or two...
Darcy and Jarifa, I had never noticed the Lays until now; tha it why I included that statement...and I haven't noticed the Pepsi at ALL! Now I'll have to look for it.
Urban, "I found it insulting that Juleech made that remark about "peace and tranquility" when she is the cause of the turmoil." Exactly!! But like Darcy, I found it funny...ridiculous funny. maybe the writers were attempting a bit of sarcasm and humor.
Anon 9:26, "Martin is stalker deluxe." Good one!
Yes, yes, yes, Karina is another enigma. Good cop, good friend to Yuri, but clueless and relentless when it comes to Martin. She needs to LET IT GO!
Also the wine it always has the same label...so i guess it is some mexican whine...oops I mean wine.
Also the ranchero suck fest later all the men at least the ranchero guys wear levis.
In true telenovela fashion , people persist in relentlessly pursuing people who don't want them .
Carlota, Karina, and Mabe just keep wishing and hoping on Martin who's hopelessly devoted to Alicia despite everyone brutally advising him that Alicia is O.L.D.
Monica wants Karina for only one reason ...yuck.
Mo wants Yuri (why?)who wants Cholo.
And so it goes....on and on wishing and hoping that the object of desire will suddden!y relent when it would be so much better to find someone who wants you as much as you want him\her. That's the trick to Love and Happiness ( shout out to Al Green. )
Unlike many here , I like Martin's steadfast , unfailing devotion to Alicia. Sometimes that is exactly what's needed for soul mates to get and stay together . Sometimes one soulmate realizes their connection before the other. I don't view Martin as a true galan, but he is galanlike in his persistence with Alicia . #jmho #sorrynotsorry #rickastleynevergoingtogiveyouup
RgvChick, I agree wholeheartedly with you that had Alicia and Martin met a bit further down the line, things might have been different. Sometimes no matter how intense the feelings or as big the problems, love can and does prevail. But they have the biggest obstacle against them - timing.
Susanlynnk love the "never going to give you up" reference. An excellent throwback! Every time I hear it, I just want to get up and dance! Rick Astley never goes out of style - well, for me anyway :)
Diana
So Rebecca is telling Alicia " It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. " People say this all the time . Is that true?
Diana,ha...I actually do get up and dance every time I hear a song that I like!!! Last one I danced to was " Knew You Were Waiting for Me".....Aretha and George Michael.
It's interesting that Rebecca is counseling Alicia at the same time Fabian is advising Martin. Fabian and Rebecca are the one loving couple in this dark ,depressing take of divorce and deceit ,but Rebecca's illness is looming over their love and happiness .uff
Claudio sees Regino's knife at the last second. He spins Horacio to the side to avoid the sweep of the knife. Horacio receives a wound to his shoulder, but Claudio is able to grab Regino and disarm him. The witnesses from the barrio are disgusted by Regino's actions. Take off!, they shout, as he lays on the ground. Go away! Claudio tends to his father's wound.
Helena tells Patricia her opinion, after discovering her with Enrique. It's incredible how little shame you have, she says. You don't know how it hurts me that my brother spent his life with a woman like you. He knew his wife was his best friend's lover. Don't come here to take out your bitterness on us, Patricia says. Go away. Of course I'll go, says Helena. But first I want to congratulate you for getting what you want - my novio. Have you told Enrique that you slept with Hector? You can see how much love Patricia feels for you, Enrique.
David continues to counsel Ricardo in the hospital waiting area Your decisions have been based on resentment and pain. What do you know about it?, Ricardo asks. Have you lived every day with a man that always humiliates you? That steps on you? That hits you? That says you're useless and a good for nothing? No, you don't know. I know a lot about pain, David replies. It's my constant companion. I know that your pain may have pushed you to do things to hurt your father. That's true, says Ricardo. I wanted him to know shame like me. I wanted people to talk about him like they talked about me. That's why I wanted to escape with Valentina and why I stole the money. I've seen your story millions of times, David says. You believe you deserve more because of how badly life treated you. You think you're a victim. That's why you believe your father deserved to have his money stolen. You could have left without taking a single centavo. And, with or without Valentina, but you lacked the courage to do it alone. Ricardo leaves angrily.
Now I know why you didn't want me in that damn apartment, Enrique shouts. Lower your voice, Patricia says. We're in a hospital. I don't care where we are, Enrique says. I care that you were with your cab driver...and you slept with him. It's obvious you're dying for that imbecile. Are you going to say it's all part of the plan? Accept it. You're in love with him and I'm an idiot for not realizing it. I'm going to keep my word, Pat tells him. If you get Guillermo to cede the ranch to me, you and I are going to be married. You really think I'm stupid enough to believe you again Patricia?, he asks. I gave up everything for you. I did everything to make you happy, but it wasn't enough. Here are the papers for the ranch. You have everything you wanted. Forget there was ever any love between us. I hope you're happy with the cab driver.
Luna bursts through the door of Patricia's apartment. She apologizes to Mina for coming in like she owns the place. She asks Hector what he's doing there. You even brought Mina, she says. Don't tell me that you and her... I thought you would stay with Helena, but look who won - Patricia. Why are you complaining?, Hector asks. You're going out with someone. I said that to make you jealous, she says. The last thing I ever want to do is hurt you, Hector tells her. I want to make love with you Hector, if only for one time in my life, Luna says, taking off her blouse. What are you doing?, Hector asks. Mina is here. And if she wasn't?, Luna asks. Would you be with me? Luna, he says, my God, cover yourself. Even if Mina wasn't here I couldn't be with you. I don't want you to suffer again. I don't care, Luna says, I'd rather suffer than not to be with you. I'm staying here to help Valentina, Hector explains. Patricia threatened her, and if I stay here, maybe I can get information. You're only staying to get information?, Luna asks. What's happened to you? You've turned into someone I don't recognize. I better leave before "your lover" gets back.
Claudio takes his father home and Horacio notices that someone has been in his treasure room. The hutch isn't completely pushed back. Claudio goes to check the room and Consuelo determines that no one forced open the windows. It must have been someone with access to the house, Horacio thinks, and that knew about the room. To me, it must have been Leonardo. So now everything bad is him, Connie says. He was here before, and came back, Horacio insists. I'm not worried about the theft. I'm worried about the curse. It could fall hard on him.
Adelaida sees David put a bottle of pills in his pocket. He says he can't bear the pain in his leg. Rosa Maria passes them and Adelaida says she needs to talk to her. I beg you to help my son, she says. OK, come to my office, Rosa Maria agrees. Lean on my shoulder. We're going to check that leg. Valentina appears and tells Adelaida she needs to show her something. It's urgent, she says.
In her office, RM explains a procedure to David. There is a surgery that blocks the nerves. It's experimental but there have been positive results in some amputees. Will I still be able to walk?, he asks. I can't answer that without more studies, she says. Some sensibility and movement will be lost as well as the pain. But I won't walk "normal" again, David says. It's a complicated and risky surgery, Rosa Maria says. But trust me, and we'll try it. She hugs him and Nora takes their picture. Now we'll see how dad reacts and leaves you, golfa (whore), Nora thinks.
Valentina and Adelaida go to Guillermo's hospital room. Helena left, he says. She can't accept her mistakes. Well, Adelaida says, now we'll see if you can accept yours. She shows him the video of Estela's infidelity. I'm an imbicile, he says. I just insulted my daughter for something she was never guilty of. He tries to get up and pulls out his oxygen. I want to see Helena, he says. I have to look for her. Bring Helena, he begs Valentina, I need to see her. Rosa Maria arrives and tells him his heart can't take much more stress. It pains me to ask, Adelaida says, but is Helena's friend going to donate her heart to my brother? It's a possibility, RM says, but they want 10 million in exchange for Majo's heart. Valentina calls Claudio to tell him she needs to find Helena. By chance, she's with him, but says she doesn't want to return to the hospital. They agree to meet at the orphanage.
Ricardo meets a woman that changes his thinking entirely. She says that sometimes people change who they love. One person can be a bridge that leads to another. He gets in his jeep and drives to Camila's house. He grabs her and they kiss. Camila, he says, I love you with all of my heart and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Are you serious?, Camila asks. Yes, I don't know how long I have to live, but I want to spend my time with you and our child. A little while ago you didn't care that I was expecting your child, Cami says. I know it's the worst mistake I could have made, he says. I have to confess something to you, and after you hear it, if you don't want to see me again I'll understand. OK, let's talk in the house, she says.
At the metro station, Lizia tries Enrique's key on several of the lockers. (This is odd, because there was a tag on the key with the locker number.) She's finally successful and a locker door opens. She opens the gym bag inside and finds it loaded with cash. She grabs several wads of bills and stuffs them in her purse. We'll see if this teaches you not to deceive a woman, she says, zipping the bag and closing the locker door.
At home, Leonardo calls a jeweler, using the alias Agustín Sánchez. A friend told me that you buy gold Leo says. I have some very nice pieces that might interest you. They're very old. You won't find them anywhere else. OK, I'll see you later. One way or another I'll be rich, he says, after ending the call. Nobody is going to stop me. I'm going to have everything I always wanted, including Helena. He gets a call from Consuelo. She wants to ask him if he stole Horacio's jewels but he invites her to a restaurant for dinner. Everything is going perfectly, he thinks.
Rosa Maria writes Guillermo a prescription and releases him from the hospital. She says his heart is like a time bomb right now. We can't predict when a heart transplant will happen, she worries. You've done everything I've asked and more, Guillermo says. But I haven't saved your life, RM says, and I don't want to lose you. Of course you've saved my life, he says, do you know why? Because you made me believe in love again. You gave me joy and hope. I don't know if I'll survive, but I want you to know I'll love you always. They hold each other tearfully. Forgive me dad, Nora says. This is my fault. I don't want you to die. Things happen in life, he assures her. It's no ones fault. I'm grateful for the marvelous opportunity I was given to know you. I love you dad, Nora says, hugging him tightly.
At the orphanage, Valentina shows Helena the video of her mother cheating. Has my father seen this?, she asks. Yes, Valentina says, and when he saw it he realized he was wrong and that he wasted many years without you. I thought I'd never get my father back, Helena says. This is the perfect time, Val says. You're my sister, Helena says, hugging Valentina. And you're mine, Val responds. Claudio takes Helena to Guillermo's new house. She says she's been waiting for this moment, but doesn't know what to tell her father. Don't say anything, Claudio advises, just hold him and forget everything else. She goes into the house as Claudio gets a text from Fernando, at the bank. What we agreed to is ready, the text says.
At Camila's house, Ricardo confesses to putting the money that he stole in Valentina's name. But you never told her, Cami says. You deceived her. I can't believe you are capable of stealing and lying to your novia who you supposedly loved. That's why you asked me to tell the tax authorities that she went to the United States, right? Is that what you want? To leave with Valentina and the money? Is that why you forced her to give up the man of her life for YOU? No, I'm changed, Ricardo says. Everything is different. Camila, I love you. Prove it, she says. If you've really changed, tell Valentina the truth. I can't blindly trust you. OK, he says, I'm going to show you.
At the new house, Guillermo tells Adelaida how much he regrets pushing Helena away all these years. Mechita brings him a water and Lucha says she has to tell him something but doesn't know how. I'll tell them, Mechita says. What happened is that... Hola, says Nora stepping into the room. Can you bring me a coffee? It's been a super tiring day. I got some books for school, she says. I'm going to leave them in my room because I'm going out.
Mechita and Lucha are talking to the driver in the kitchen. We were about to tell them the truth and Nora came in, Mechita says. I could tell them, he volunteers, if it's the right time. The right time for what?, Adelaida asks, overhearing their conversation. For errands, Lucha says, but we didn't want to bother you. Hmm, Adelaida says, I don't know why, but I think there is something else you want to tell me.
Fernando slips Claudio a thumb drive from the security camera of the bank. It proves that Ricardo Manrique opened an account in the name of señorita Valentina, he says. Thanks, says Claudio, although I don't know if that will be enough for a trial. You may have to testify. If not, you could be charged as an accomplice.
Guillermo and Adelaida are together at the house. Mechita announces Helena, who approaches her father crying. Papa, she says, as they hold each other close.
Joel, you related all of the heartache so beautifully. I keep thinking what a shame it would have been if this story had not been recapped, if you had not ridden to the rescue. I savored every single word.
For a few moments I actually forgave Guillermo watching Helena’s happy tears during their reconciliation.
Highlight of the night was “Helena left, he says. She can't accept her mistakes. Well, Adelaida says, now we'll see if you can accept yours”. Loved it.
So happy Helena told off Patty and that Enrique knows the truth. Patricia has no one to blame but herself for scaring off her potential golden goose.
The writers are certainly keeping us on our toes and keeping us guessing! I was certain Horacio was going to move at the last moment and that Claudio was going to get stabbed."
I have one question I am hoping you might be able to answer. When Rosa was talking to David, did he actually offer to give Guillermo his heart or did I misunderstand that?? Nora was listening and it definitely seemed as though she was crying real tears, hard as that is to imagine. David IS a saint. I really hope he gets that operation and that it is successful.
Too late for any redemption for you Ricardo…
Luna is rather a lunatic. I’m thinking she is more dangerous than not at this point.
“I'm worried about the curse. It could fall hard on him”. Let it I say, most uncharitably. But I’m confused, why did Leo invite Consuelo to dinner??
Where is Julia and what is she up to.
Joel, marvelous. Thank you!
Diana
Diana - Yes, you understood David correctly. He offered to give Guillermo his heart for his mother's happiness. Rosa Maria said she had no words for that. She was stunned. I guess I left it out of the recap because, although David is probably willing to do it, he must know that doctors can't kill people to harvest their hearts.
JoelD: Thank you very much for your hardworking efforts on the recap of last night's episode.
Nice that Jackass Guillermo & Helena had their reconciliation. Now if we can FINALLY get to Jackass Guillermo accepting Valentina as his daughter that would be nice, so HURRY UP producers.
Diana: Leo is upping the ante non-stop with EVILNESS. I'm assuming Carlitos died ?
If SerJerk dies now Juleech's spawn inherits nothing. Mexican law does not permit inheritances left to unborns or those not yet conceived. If he doesn't have a will at all, there will be a major court case that could take months to resolve.
I just read that there is no "right of survivorship" which means that a widowed spouse can be disinherited completely, even in Mexico City. It would not necessarily benefit her to be married to him.
Lucas would have equal rights of inheritance to Yuri, Gonzalo, and Miranda.
All bets are off if prior to his death SerJerk is discovered to have dirty money. That investigation would tie up his assets for ages.
Joel, thank you. In addition to wanting to do it for his mother, I think David's in excruciating pain and perhaps is thinking that he'd rather not be alive. My heart goes out to him. I guess that magnanimous gesture was too much for Nora's tiny grinch like heart.
Diana
SpanProf, thank you for your kind words.
"Some of those insights David has on Ricardo's situation etc. may come from his years of attending Narcotics Anonymous sessions". Well said and I think you are exactly right.
I have no sympathy for Patricia. Short of dying to save someone, Nora is dead to me and has no hope of redemption.
I hope you are right about Luna! I just can't understand characters (men and women) who refuse to take no for an answer! I hope she has taken her last shot at trying to talk Hector into something he doesn't want to do. She is in the story for a reason so I will keep an open mind.
It was rather a relief not to have to look at Yolanda last night. I'm sure she will darken our screens tonight...
Diana
Thanks, everyone, for crowdsourcing the info needed to predict the Gran Final. My cable provider stops at next Wednesday's episode, but it sounds as if it will go until the following Monday at least. Re-penciling it in now...sigh...
Best line from last night -- Fabian to Serge: "Two kids in two days? Vasectomy NOW."
Blue Lass, that line is worthy of a second viewing.
I wonder how common vasectomies are in Mexico. I have never been under the impression that they are.
I would prefer to see him humiliated and in prison. That will mean that Alicia and Gonzalo will need to run a successful business to recover because the investigation into SerJerk's money will take a long time. They will need to borrow from somebody in the meantime.
Men are not punished for their sins, but by them - Elbert Hubbard
Previously: Julieta proclaims to the world that she is with child. Sergio’s child. Plagued by insecurities and doubt, Alicia shatters Martin’s heart, breaking up with him. Again. Karina rubs salt into his wound but then proceeds to allow Yuri a few precious moments with Cholo. Gonzalo gets arrested. Again. Lucas continues his triumphant tour of besting Sergio financially without thought or vision as to whether this victory might ring hollow in the end. Martin downs dozens of beers as Nelson gently shows him his back, disapproval obvious. Losing his loyal audience, Martin ugly cries to Mabel. Sergio eschews his medication and as reporters scream, demanding answers, as the crowd presses forward, light bulbs flashing, Sergio succumbs to the external fray and internal noise inside his head, collapsing.
Alicia kneels over Sergio’s prostrate body, screaming for an ambulance. Sergio’s collapse is all over the news as a surprised Lucas and elsewhere, Diablo and Julieta watch intently. Yuri arrives at the scene calling “Papi” as Lorena tries to comfort her. Alicia tells Yuri that Sergio has likely had a heart attack. Yuri ignores the reporter’s questions as Sergio is placed on a gurney and wheeled off. Martin and Mabel watch as Mabel quickly interjects the obvious, asking isn’t that Alicia with Sergio? Yes, Martin admits. She snidely says it is strange that Alicia is there instead of Julieta and walks off.
Lorena is still trying to console Yuri when Moises slithers in. Is he all right he asks oh so solicitously. Yuri asks that he please stay there and get Gonzalo released.
Miranda reminds Culebra that he hasn’t done the favor she asked. Nicole physically bulldozes her way through Miranda and Culebra’s arms and smirks that when Culebra is done with Miranda, he can come back to her as they always had a good time together. Tic toc she says, laughing wolfishly.
In the ambulance, Sergio is in tears while Alicia urges him to calm down and hold on. He has so much to live for including his child with Julieta. Sergio tells her that he never planned on having another child. He doesn’t love Julieta, he loves Alicia and he doesn’t want to live without her. Forgive me he sputters into the oxygen mask.
Prudencia calls Lucas and asks if he has seen what happened to his father. Prudencia knows that Sergio has high blood pressure…he must have gotten very upset about something.
Fedora serves up soup and history as she describes the three amigas. Rebeca is the perfect one, Alicia is the good one and she is the problematic one. Fedora seems to bring Rebeca to a calm place, even though she is still unaware of her surroundings. Eva bursts in asking if they heard the news…Sergio had some kind of an attack.
Mujica does a walk though at the station, roaring at everyone to get to work. Toro calls and tells him that Susu is one of his guys…Mujica better find out who has been investigating in his area.
Gonzalo pleads his case, denying he has anything to do with drugs. When Gonzalo suggests that they give him a drug test, Karina tells him it would be useless since distributors normally don’t take their drugs. She orders that Gonzalo be taken back to his cell.
Diana
Martín wants to go to the hospital but Mabel (wisely) advises that he stay away.
Miranda and Ariana chat and laugh while Nicole and Vanessa berate Ariana. The director comes in and informs Miranda about her father. Strangely she calls her by her last name only. As Miranda walks the hall in tears, Culebra sees her and asks what is wrong. Culebra immediately offers to go with.
Alicia muses as to how Sergio could have a heart attack since he has been taking his meds faithfully. She then thinks about all the things have been happening. When she asks about Gonzalo, Yuri tells her Moises stayed at the public ministry…She doesn’t know if he will be able to help Gonzalo.
Martín calls Diablo who tells Martín that Julieta took off to the hospital and everything at the station is in chaos.
Alicia assures Miranda that her father was conscious when he was in the ambulance. Julieta and her spiked heels arrive, asking for Sergio. After Alicia asks her to stop her little act, Julieta retorts that Sergio is the father of her child. The doctor approaches and asks for Alicia. Julieta imperiously insists that he speak with her since she is Sergio’s companion. The doctor tells them that they are preparing Sergio for surgery because he has a blocked artery…they will perform an angioplasty and Sergio should come out just fine. Fabian arrives to offer his support and reassurance.
Moises insists that Gonzalo is innocent and mentions the toxicology report …the drugs belong to Suso. Mujica is unmoved so Moises ramps up his defense to no avail.
Gonzalo asks Cholo what happened with his sister. Cholo admits that for the first time, he fell in love. With Yuri. It was a mistake however as Yuri is going to marry “that guy”. Gonzalo tells Cholo his sister is not like that…something must have happened. Cholo tells him that Yuri hurt him…but since they come from different worlds, Gonzalo will get out before he does.
Mujica arrives asking for Susu and Gonzalo tells him he was taken to be questioned. Mujica taunts him and cruelly tells him his father had a heart attack. Karina and Gutierrez were well into Susu’s interrogation, Gutierrez mocking Susu’s stutter, banging on the table to make his point. Mujica interrupts and makes them leave.
Julieta gives Mabel an update and tells her to give her regards to Martín. Lucas arrives at the hospital to a frigidly cold reception. He heard what happened and wanted to know how dad is; he offers to donate blood. Lucas know he is not welcome in the family but they need to get used to seeing him. Alicia tells him he will be welcome when he stops seeing them as his enemies…relationships should be nurtured. Lucas retorts that it is easier said than done. Fabian comments that Lucas is full (of it) of resentment.
Diana
Luna, oblivious to her father’s immersion in his liquor, pesters, asking to go to a sleep over. At first, Toro refuses and screams at her. Thank you she says in a small voice after he reluctantly agrees. Marcela tells him that he will have to take her because she has a lot to do.
Carlota tells Martín that Sofia is excited to go with him since she invited a friend for a sleep over. He sidesteps her questions and smilingly greets his daughter.
Julieta tells Alicia to leave…Sergio is her man and she has nothing to do there. Alicia retorts that she will stay to accompany her daughters; and if she doesn’t want to deal with an ex-wife she should look for a single man, to which the patio grins broadly. When Alicia asks if Sergio was taking his meds, Julieta tells her that she is not Sergio’s nurse. When Julieta affirms that she is a companion of this century, Alicia tells her to be prepared because she will need to take care of Sergio since he had a heart attack. Julieta tells her that what she does with Sergio and her baby is her business…Alicia needs to keep her advice to herself.
Gonzalo is released and so is Susu; Mujica took care of it. When Cholo wishes he could have the same fate, Moises tells him it would helped if he were as innocent as Gonzalo. Gonzalo reminds Cholo of what he told him and tells him to trust his sister; Cholo also reminds Gonzalo of what he said…they come from different worlds. Mujica jeers and laughs at Cholo.
As Rebeca still does not realize who Fedora is (at that point in time), Rebeca points to the cameras capturing her every move. Fedora stares thoughtfully.
Eva had shown up to make the hospital even more grim, glaring at Culebra. Culebra tries to get Miranda to eat but Miranda is too worried. When Miranda leaves to the restroom, Eva approaches and hisses, asking Culebra where he lives. Culebra assumes that she is asking to find out if they are from the same social class. Eva is sure he isn’t at Miranda’s level but she isn’t worried because she knows that Miranda is with him only to pass the time…their story won’t go far. It is obvious that Culebra has no aspirations or future…he will never be Miranda’s social equal and it won’t be long before Miranda realizes it. As Eva’s poison has infiltrated his mind and heart, Culebra tells Miranda he has to leave. Miranda asks why and comments that he is acting so strangely! He will only reiterate that he has to leave. Sorry Culebra Eva smirks with joy giving him a pinky salute as she yells “bye”. Ack…
Martín calls and asks Alicia how she is, are you all right? Alicia gives him the Reader’s Digest version. As there has never been a time when Martin doesn’t retreat but pushes further, he asserts he would like to be there with her but she is probably with her family. Alicia asks (for the tenth time) that he please not do this; they shouldn’t hurt each other. Martín hopes that all goes well…he loves her and is waiting for her. Sofia asks if he had a fight with the señora…it’s obvious that they broke up…and she will be there for him. At this point, Nelson looks around his face mirroring his support. Alicia flashbacks to Sergio’s agony in the ambulance begging for her forgiveness.
Moises gives Yuri the good news. Gonzalo grabs the phone and asks about his father…
Diana
Mujica pushes Susu and warns him that he is free but next time he won’t be as lucky.
At the Sergioless station, Julieta insists that she can do the program by herself. Chiquis wonders what will happen if Sergio dies so Julieta tells her not to even go there. Fabian is similarly dismayed. Viewerville wishes this were the one time Chiquis had something in her mouth to chew on!
Mujica tells Karina that they couldn’t keep the guys in custody as they were not caught selling. He again hints that they can meet at night to discuss things. We join Karina in being disgusted.
Alicia tells Gonzalo that Sergio’s surgery was successful. Yuri thanks Moises and he smarmily says it is his family too. The nurse comes and tells them that Sergio is asking for his wife. Julieta starts to go but the nurse clarifies that Sergio asked for Alicia. Fabian stops her reminding her Sergio had a heart attack. He give Chiquis the “I’m watching you” stare.
Mabel gives Martín information on Sergio but Martín is already aware. Mabel assumes that he didn’t take her advice so Martín explains that he is a reporter and has contacts everywhere. She invites him out but Martín can’t go out since Sofia is there and is having a sleepover. As he mentions that they need to follow up on Toro, Toro and Luna arrive, right on time. Toro stares.
Alicia enters Sergio’s room. How are you she asks. Bad he answers. She takes his hand and he winces. We suspect his pain radiates from the hurt he has caused rather than from the heart attack he suffered. He puts his hands on her cheek and cries like a baby. He admits to being stupid, arrogant, greedy and an imbecile (among many other things the patio mutters). He talks about the years they had together, their three children – she is the love of his life. He tells her he needs her forgiveness. The only thing that will give him the strength to continue living is knowing that he has a chance at getting her back. Alicia reminds him that his pregnant partner is outside waiting to see him. Sergio prefers to die if he doesn’t have the coffee she makes him…or her smile. What hurts him is not having her with him. He forgot that she was his greatest triumph…his wife, his only. When he asks for a chance to show that he can be better for her…and that he loves her, Alicia tells him that this hurting them both. He pleads that she tells him she will give him a chance. When he asks if she will be his wife, Alicia gently bites her lip, seemingly knowing what she wants (and needs) to say but is searching carefully and cautiously to find the right words…
And there we end...
Diana
There was more than one scene where I understood almost no dialog, specifically any scene in which Mabel appeared. She seemed to be working at a feverish pitch to speak as fast as humanly possible (anyone remember the '81 Fedex commercials with the fast talker??) I am so appreciative to Rgv Chick who once again came to my aid and supplied critical dialog. All credit goes to her...
Sergio survives to live another day...
Diana
Thanks, Diana, for the very enjoyable read. “The Reader’s Digest version” so true and so funny.
Sort of late for Sergio to finally see the light as far as Alicia was concerned.
Loved when Sergio asked for her and not Julieta. For once, Julieta couldn't make it about her.
Oh, no! I had to agree with Julieta that Sergio had to be responsible for taking his own meds. He is a big boy now.
Eva was so nasty and weird with Culebra I can see where he was creeped out. Talking about weird, Lucas sure didn’t miss a chance to stick it to the Carranza family at the hospital. Talk about being out of place . . .
Mujica let Susu out only with a warning, but will Toro be as forgiving now he is on the outside?
Karina clearly smelled a rat when Mujica let Susu go.
Thank goodness Martín didn’t show up at the hospital. The phone call was bad enough. What part of “Do not contact me” does he not understand?
Thank you Diana! 'So many children he didn't know what to do!' So true! The walls are closing in.
Sergio trying to manipulate Alicia even in his sick bed, I guess there really is no rest for the wicked.
It's hard to watch the scenes with Rebeca, so sad. The actress is doing a wonderful job though, it's a heartbreaking performance and very convincing.
The light bulb went off for Fedora! Finally, I can't wait to see Eva go down.
Eva has been horrible all along so it surprises me that she can do anything to make me like her less but she did last night! Condemning a child and telling him he is nothing and will obviously amount to nothing is despicable! I hate people who are cruel to children! Also, I have a suspicion Cluebra is in (above) Miranda's social class....that gaming room he has for his team to play doesn't exactly scream penniless. My guess is daddy is loaded and Eva missed an opportunity to kiss up to Miranda's rich boyfriend with her stupid judgemental prejudices.
I kind of felt bad for Lucas, he seemed to walk into the hospital genuinely concerned, but then when he realized he wasn't welcome his defenses went back up. He's done nothing to earn anything but a cold reception but still even in the resentment and the hatred of the grown man you can see the hurt of the little boy.
Gonzo needs to have a heart-to-heart with Yuri now! He heard Moises taunting Cholo stating he wasn't innocent like Gonzo, tell your sister!! One thing that really struck me in this episode was Gonzo's kindness. He was kind to Cholo and tried to encourage him even after he criticized Yuri and called her a liar. He saw his pain behind the words and showed him compassion, which was impressive. Then again he has been the compassionate one throughout I just haven't noticed much because his storyline didn't grab me.
Will Martin recognize Toro? Did he see a picture?
I don't think Alicia is actually considering Sergio's proposal but if she is then at least we know where Yuri got all her stupid from.
Darcy, interesting observation that it is Eva who might be outclassed. Culebra seemed more mature than Eva in the exchange and so utterly deflated when he insisted on leaving. A bizarre turn would be if his family owned her favorite casino. If only . . . At least it looks like Fedora will be on Eva’s case.
Great work, Diana. You captured all the angst and all the hypocrisy in this episode.
Juleech's insecurity and narcissism was in the spotlight. If her viewers could have seen her her ratings would be in the crapper. She was a total bitch to everyone. While I agree that SerJerk should be taking care of himself, she was so uncaring and dismissive that any fool could see through her.
Eva.... she was definitely outclassed by Culebra. It is the most insecure person who always plays the social class card. She is the one who came from nowhere, probably pulled a pregnancy entrapment -- like Juleech's mother -- and the husband fell in love with long distance after Alicia was born. Alicia is far better-mannered and better-read than she is; I bet somehow she went to college or SerJerk would never have considered marrying her in the first place. She would never have been the right wife for a man in his position if she had as little class as Eva.
SerJerk displayed the childish element of narcissism. Alicia was almost his mother in how she took care of him and saw to it that his illness didn't get worse. Cooking low sodium and probably low carbohydrate was appropriate but she should not have had to remind him to take his pills. I can't see him winning her back after everything that's gone down. She has no reason to forgive him after his financial abuse and verbal cruelty.
Gonzalo was always the most empathetic of their children. He was the first to come to Alicia's defense when the crap hit the fan about her and Martin. He is secure in himself despite his mistakes. That takes an inner strength that his sisters don't have... yet.
It definitely looks like Fedora will check those cameras as soon as Fabian gets home. That will finish Eva off. However, Nicole is still roaming around the school thinking she is the Queen Bee. I'm reasonably sure she is of a lower class than Culebra. I love the idea of his father owning the casino where Eva loses all "her" money.
Don't know whether Martin will recognize El Toro who obviously put on the baseball cap to disguise his mohawk, but El Toro will know who Martin is. That is a clear and present danger. The ending of this novela can go one of three ways:
-- Alicia ends up with Martin (with or without a year-long time jump)
-- Alicia ends up alone without him because she isn't ready
-- Alicia ends up alone because El Toro kills Martin before meeting his Karmageddon
I so enjoyed everyone’s astute comments this morning!
“Thank goodness Martín didn’t show up at the hospital. The phone call was bad enough. What part of “Do not contact me” does he not understand?” Oh Jarifa, Martin just does not get it, does he?? Were you shaking your head as I was? Instead of taking a breath and stepping back, Martin takes a freight train and hurtles down the track full speed.
Jarifa, I agree that Karina knows exactly what was up with the undeserved, early release.
I have always thought Culebra came from a “good” family, meaning money honey 😊. If Miranda were looking for a rich “catch” (which she is too young for and would never do anyway), you are right Darcy in that Eva might well have put the kibosh on that. Your comment on Lucas, “…even in the resentment and the hatred of the grown man you can see the hurt of the little boy” was sharp and mirrored who he was and who he has become. Tragic.
Urban, your speculations on Eva’s origins were very interesting. I wonder if anything will be revealed before the end. I liked your take on Gonzalo that “ He is secure in himself despite his mistakes. That takes an inner strength that his sisters don't have... yet”. So true!
Diana
Darcy: I NEVER trusted Culebra from the get-go. Something is off about that kid.
Diana: The Queen Bs will get away with the bullying, etc., I still do NOT see any Karma anvils hitting them.
UA: I'll be shocked if Alicia & Martin get together in the Gran Final on October 11th. I just don't see it!
Jackass Sergio, Julieta, Eva, Mujica, Toro, Lucas & Co., still need to get their Karma anvils!
Can somebody please tell Fabian to send his wife to a freaking facility for God's sake ?
Steve Boudreaux!
Culebra doesn't seem off to me or untrustworthy. He actually seems almost stereotypically normal. He's a young boy who was abandoned by his mother and doesn't seem to get much attention from Dad. He grows up with too much freedom and engrosses himself in video games and beer and trying to be cool, until he meets the girl of his dreams and tries to wake up and be a better person for her! That story has been written many times!
Steve, I am very grateful that Fabian and Rebeca have the means so Rebeca can remain at home. While her moments of lucidity are fewer and far between, there are likely flashes here and there that we do not see. When those occur, she at least knows she is home and being loved and cared for.
Most do not have the luxury to be able to keep their loved ones with them. Having to send them "away" must be heartbreaking indeed. I applaud Fabian and Rebeca's steadfast friends for allowing her to keep that dignity.
Diana
Thank you for the detailed recap. We had a power outage last night and missed Tu Amor and came back on with Martin and his tear filled eyes as his poor kid tried to clean up so her buddy could come over.
I have said this before and I will say it again...STOP for the love of anything Holy just stop or go on some kid of meds. Anti depression meds tend to curb sexual desire..so for Martin it would be a win win sit.
Thou Toro's kid may have a new outlook on her own family.
Regarding Miranda's boyfriend
I think there is nothing shady about the kid. I think his parents are divorced and don't pay any attention to him, but buy him off with money. That computer den is a sweet set up and would cost serious money. Remember when the youngins went off on the bus trip the kid had money and a credit card.
Geez if this was a goth fantasy movie Eva would be the Asp whispering in everyone'S EAR.
Now not to offend anyone but I do not hold with the "Soul Mates" theory. I mean you meet people for better or worse...sometimed it works sometimes it doesn't. Martin needs to get a job writing greeting cards.
Alicia since she got her groove back needs to take some classes and meet some nrw men.
Forgive me daughter, Guillermo asks. Forgive me for not believing you. For not listening to you. When I saw that video...I understand, Helena assures him. All I feel is love for you. If only I had realized my mistake, Guillermo responds. Now that I have so little time. Don't say that dad, because we're going to fight. I'm not willing to lose you now, Helena says, holding him. I love you. Thank God for this miracle.
At the taller, Beba tells Yolanda that it won't be east to find the spy. Well, you'll have to be creative dear, Yolanda says, because I will get revenge for this treason. Did you register the designs of that girl who came here, Josefina? Yes, Beba confirms. I already registered them in your name. Then I'm ready to win at fashion week in Milan, Yolanda brags. Nothing will be able to stop me. Success is mine. Beba gets a text as she returns to her office. "The cable needs fixing again". Yolanda's detective watches through the window as she gathers her thoughts and responds to the text. "OK, it can be at night, same as always" I really doubt that you will get to fashion week in Milan, Beba thinks. Sorry Yolanda.
Patricia has a gift for Mina when she returns to her apartment. It's a video game that Mina can keep or give to the orphans. Mina would like to raffle it because Carlitos is sick and needs money. Patricia offers to help with the raffle. This doesn't cheer Mina up because she misses her abuela. She wants to live with her and her father again. Can you convince him?, she asks.
Lizia brings some contracts from Human Resources to Enrique's office. She asks him to keep his distance from her. Patricia is his woman. He denies it, and says there is nothing to stand in their way. We'll continue with our plans, he says. Soon we'll go far away. I like that, Lizia says, kissing him. You don't know how I enjoyed this kiss. Do you know why? Because it's the last one. She pushes him away angrily. Don't come near me again, she commands.
Nora isn't in a good mood when she gets to Yolanda's studio. Yolanda takes her to the office and asks her what's wrong. My father is doing badly, she says, and we don't know how long he has to live. I feel that it's my fault for making him angry. Wow, Yolanda says. If Guillermo died, that would hurt me a lot. I never told you, but you remind me of myself when I was young. We're capable of anything to get what we want. But nobody understands what we feel or what we have suffered. I swear I don't want my father to die, Nora says. I only want the ranch. And I don't doubt that you will get it, Yolanda says. With your strength and your ambition you could be my successor some day.
Lizia writes an email to the Board of Directors of Guillermo's company. She tells them the business is in grave danger while Enrique works there. He's been cheating senor Vargas. Stealing money from his accounts, and manipulating the security cameras as well as his personal computer. It's urgent that you see to this affair, she writes. After agonizing over the email for a moment, she hits send and picks up her phone. Mom, pack your bags, she says. We're getting out of the city. I'll explain later. Just do it. Adios Enrique, she says to herself. Not even God can save you now.
I'm taking you to a restaurant you're going to love, Leonardo tells Consuelo on the way to his car. Oh thank you, Connie tells him. I'm so happy that... I love seeing you smile, Leo says, holding the door. As Connie gets in the car, the glove box opens revealing a camouflage mask like the one Hector's attacker wore. I don't feel well, she says, dropping the mask and getting out of the car. As she runs to the house, Leo sees the mask and realizes what happened.
I'm really grateful to you Patricia, Hector says, but I think Mina and I are going to go back to my mother's house. He sends Mina to another room. What's going to happen to our relationship?, Pat asks. Please don't leave me alone now. I think it's best for both of us, Hector explains. The only thing I can offer you now is my friendship. I'm sorry. I never wanted to hurt you. We can talk. I can take you in my cab like before, without charging you. I can't keep living here. My family needs me. Don't abandon me, Patricia pleads. I beg you. Stay with me, she says, wrapping her arms around him.
At least we can be together for the time God grants me, Guillermo tells Helena. Oh, if we could only know who wrote that letter. It's important that I know who caused so much pain in my relationship with you. In the end, Helena says, that person didn't get what they wanted. Right now, the important thing is to convince Majo's sister to donate her heart so they can perform your transplant. We have to fight for your life.
David is in Rosa Maria's office, offering to donate his heart. But that would kill you, Rosa Maria says, exasperated. We could say I had a complication, David says, or that I had a terminal illness. I can't lie that way, RM says. I want to save Guillermo's life but not like that. I'm not going to give in to your request, she says firmly. I'll try to find a way to save Guillermo's life, but I don't intend to accept yours in exchange. I made a mistake in the past and compromised my career. I'm not going to do it again.
Horacio catches Consuelo agonizing in her kitchen. She tells him about the ski mask. She says she always defended Leonardo but her mother's intuition says that he was the one who beat up Hector. He almost killed him, she adds. Maybe there's an explanation, Horacio says. We can ask him. If it turns out that it was him you'll have to tell Hector the truth. I just pray it's a misunderstanding, Consuelo responds. Leonardo can't have a soul so black.
What exactly were you referring to when you said I could be your successor?, Nora asks Yolanda. I don't know anything about fashion or design. You're as ambitious as I am, Yolanda says. And that is what fuels success. I don't have your resources, Nora responds, but with the help of my father... Ah, you're father, Yolanda answers. Do you see why I say that you lack intelligence? What are you talking about?, Nora asks. What about my father? I have to tell you a secret, Yolanda confesses. I know you're not the real daughter of Guillermo Vargas.
Guillermo tells Helena not to worry about him. She should try to get back her career. He hates that it ended the way it did. He thinks she's the best designer in the world. Do you really think so?, Helena asks. He pulls a keepsake box from one of the shelves. This is my greatest treasure, he says. Open it and see for yourself. Helena tears up when she sees the contents. It contains creations of hers going back to her childhood. I've always followed your career, Guillermo confesses. Your triumphs and successes. Because of my stupid pride I never told you. You are an extraordinary woman with great talent. I've always admired you.
Nora says she doesn't know what Yolanda is talking about. I'm Guillermo's daughter and I have the DNA test to prove it. The test is wrong, Yolanda claims. They used Helena's hair. I know everything. That's why I said you're like me. You're impulsive, calculating, and you always play to win. The difference is that you are extremely foolish. You didn't think about what you needed to get away with it. If you're so intelligent, Nora counters, tell me what I need to do. Simple, Yolanda responds, you need to clear away the only threat in your path. You have to eliminate Valentina. Are you crazy?, Nora asks. I won't do it. We'll see if you say the same thing at the point of losing everything. Sooner or later the truth will come out. If Guillermo discovers that you deceived him, I don't even want to think about what he will do.
Leonardo has a plan and heads for the market. Do you know where I could get a ski mask like this one?, he asks a vender. Over there in the back, he says. They sell military style clothes. The merchant at the correct booth says they carry two different models of the mask. How many do you have?, Leonardo asks. 10 of each model, the merchant answers. How many do you want? Give me all of them, Leo says. Everything you have in both models.
Thank goodness Guillermo and Helena have reconciled, Adelaida tells Mechita. It's a miracle. Lucha interrupts them. There is something Mechita and I want to tell you, but we don't know how. What are you hiding?, Adelaida asks. We found some matches in Nora's bag, Lucha confesses. And a note that said she bought something called ethanol. Ethanol?, Adelaida asks. Nora? They nod their heads. The date on the note was the same day the house burned. And the firefighters said the fire was intentional, Adelaida points out. Are you going to tell the senor?, Mechita asks. Of course not, Adelaida answers. No one open your mouth until I'm sure that Nora had something to do with it. Chiton (hush).
Look Patricia, Hector tells her as she drapes herself over him on the sofa. I love Helena. But she doesn't love you like I do, Pat says. She showed that when she broke up with you. I know that she loves me, Hector insists. It's best that I go. No, no, please don't leave me Pat begs. Stay with me a while. I couldn't stand it if you left. She continues on in this way until Hector tells her he'll think about it. She goes to get some wine and Hector wonders if it's all worth it, just to get information.
Judith goes to Majo's bedside sporting her hairstyle and dressed in clothes she would wear. I know I wasn't the best sister, she tells her, but don't worry. I'm going to make Leonardo pay for what he did.
At the orphanage, the children ask Valentina about Carlitos. I don't know when he'll be back, she tells them, but I can say that he's better. Ricardo shows up. I have to tell you something very important, he says. I've kept it from you for a long time. I can't hide it anymore. I lied to you the day we were going to escape. I stole a lot of money from my father. I put it in your name. It was the day I had you sign all those papers. She remembers signing papers he gave her without reading them. He says he told her they were for insurance, but they were for opening accounts in her name. I put all the money I stole from Armando Manrique in those accounts, he confesses.
Carlitos gives a picture to Rosa Maria. He says he drew it for senor Guillermo and his sister. Madre Aurora says he did it to thank them for paying the hospital expenses, and for supporting the orphanage. I will give it to them personally, Rosa Maria promises. She says Carlitos can go back home. He's on a list to receive a heart, but while he's waiting for it he has to be careful. No strong emotions or games that tire you out, she warns. But I'm OK, Carlitos says. I'll get better quickly. Madre, get me my clothes. I want to go already.
You're a great designer, Guillermo tells his daughter. I can't stand that Yolanda took your taller in such a cruel way. There's nothing you can do, Helena says. Yolanda purchased the debt from the bank. No, you're wrong, Guillermo says. She only bought part of the debt. I purchased the rest. I did it anonymously. I couldn't let Claudio realize that I was behind it. I own over half of the debt. That puts me in the position to take your taller back from Yolanda. After a cumbersome legal process of course. I have one condition. That you design again. That you follow your passion. That you make clothing again. It's your destiny. To be the best designer in the world. I promise she says through tears.
It's over Enrique, Lizia says, in front of the locker at the metro station. You'll never play around with a woman again. She takes the money from the locker and leaves a note. "You should never cheat on a woman", it says. She closes the locker door and picks up two large athletic bags stuffed with bills.
Is that why you wanted me to marry you?, Valentina asks Ricardo. To steal money from your dad? You never loved me. Of course that's why you wanted me to marry you, she says enraged. To get your father's money. That's why Patricia forced me to marry you. No, he tells her, that's not why. Then why did Patricia want me to marry you?, Val asks. Please, for once in your life tell me the truth. I don't know how to tell you, Ricardo says. Well find a way, Val threatens, because you're not leaving here until you tell me. Patricia wanted you to marry me because I did a DNA test on you, Ricardo confesses. Valentina, you're Guillermo's real daughter.
I agree that Culebra is a normal kid. He's financially spoiled and probably gets little actual attention from his father, but he is basically good.
Eva is determined to control anyone she can and what she did to him is beyond despicable. I hope his father does own the casino because he would come down hard on her and get her banned from every casino in Mexico.
And here's hoping for a girlfriend for Nelson.
Joel, superior in every way. Soaked up every word, savoring every saucy tidbit. Especially liked “Chiton (hush)”.
Startling revelations, cover-ups and confessions abounded.
“Guillermo says…she only bought part of the debt. I purchased the rest”. I admit I was flabbergasted. Although medically failing, Guillermo’s heart did beat with a bit of kindness after all. As Helena is happy they have reconciled, then I am similarly happy for her.
So now Yolanda wants Nora to do away with Valentina?? Satan speaks.
Hector is now going along with Claudio’s request to string Patricia along.
“Leonardo can't have a soul so black”. Think again.
Is Leo going to say that the mask Consuelo found was a sample of something he is going to be selling? I can see no other reason for the bulk purchase. What does Juliet have in mind?
I still do not understand why Leo wanted to take Consuelo to lunch. He’s openly contemptuous of her and has seemingly made no effort to see her let alone take her for special outings. What was the point?
Valentina now knows she is Guillermo’s daughter. Ricardo’s health is rapidly deteriorating and his demise seems imminent. At least he came to his senses regarding Camila, but there is no future for them I speculate.
While I feel David’s offer was heartfelt (so to speak), what was he thinking? Of course Rosa would not do anything untoward. Good heavens man.
That spy in Yolanda’s office totally creeps me out. I have a bad feeling for Beba.
Joel, another excellent exercise. Thank you!
Diana
Thank you Anon!
"Remember when the youngins went off on the bus trip the kid had money and a credit card". Appreciate this as I had forgotten that. This gives credence to the fact Culebra's family is well off. I like him although the fact it took him so long to come to Miranda's defense and indeed was initially in on the bullying give me pause.
"if this was a goth fantasy movie Eva would be the Asp whispering in everyone'S EAR" made me smile. Eva has few fans here, if at all.
Diana
Diana, you always find the perfect title and quote which is in and of itself not as easy as some might think. Your recap...what can I say...pure perfection with added confection, thank you!
Serrgio is more than late with his pleas to Alicia; and without doubt, only an attempt to get what is beneficial only to him. I would be shocked if Alicia has even an inkling of consideration for this jerk.
Jarifa, I do agree that Sergio is more than old enough to take care of himself, but I know of very few spouses (if any) who wouldn't follow up just to make sure that their loved one takes their meds...it's human nature and no matter what century they are from, the caring and concern is still there...but then when it comes to Julieta, we're talkig a different kind of beast, aren't we?
Dacry, "It's hard to watch the scenes with Rebeca, so sad." Oh my, yes! Even though I know "it's just a story," it breaks my heart to see Rebeca struggle to remember her loved ones.
I just can't get myself to feel sorry for Lucas. Yes, he has reason to be resentful, but he is an intelligent grown man who is lashing out at the wrong people. Had he only targetted Sergio, my feelings toward him would be very different.
Darcy et all, great observation about Culebra's gaming room and the possibility of him outclassing Eva and possibly the Carranzas. Jarifa, I LOVE the idea that his parents could own the casino. Revenge would be sweet!
Martin most likely will not recognize El Toro, but I am really hoping that Luna introduces her father by his nickname...or maybe she can mention it later after her father leaves.
I forgot to mention earlier, did anyone else notice when Martin was in the office and Mabe was trying to convince him not to do anything stupid he had a snack on the table? Lays and a Pepsi! :)
Rgv Chick, thank you so much...
While Alicia may be struggling with how her relationship with Martin will turn out, I do think she has closed the door on any return to Sergio. In the ambulance, she wore a worried expression of care and concern. But I saw nothing of the devastation that seeing someone you can't live without so vulnerable.
Martin has on rare occasion wore an inscrutable facial expression, but when he opened the door to Toro I saw a genuine smile without a hint of recognition. That was definitely not the case for Toro though. Yes, it would be wonderful if Luna would use his name during the introductions..
Darcy, I didn't see the chips and Pepsi in that particular scene but I was feeling a definite urge for a snack during the show. Coincidence?? :)
Diana
"I wonder if Ricardo is about to supply a donor heart". Yes, SpanProf!! Ricardo is now like the walking dead and while I'm sorry anyone has to die, I do not feel as badly for him as I would for others.
The writers are still pulling rabbits out of their hats, aren't they? Guillermo's "emotional" change of heart (rather than his actual heart) was gratifying yet this new (unsettling) twist with Leo and the masks makes for even more drama.
That said, I'm anxious to see what Judith has up her sleeve. And even though Beba's been the classic bad girl, compared to these other loathsome characters, she's a veritable saint!
I don't think Nora will try and kill Val but I'm wrong so often, we will have to wait and see!
Diana
Thank you for the recap as I missed it.
David kinda creeps me out. Really here take my heart. Seriously. Stop like any doctor is gonns say..well okay if your done with it.
I am so over all of this and just want it to end. I don't understand why everything is always a big secret?
Also what is wrong with Ricardo? I just figured he always looks so weak and wan cause that is the way he has manipulated people for years. His only activity has been whining and bangim camilla.
Diana , thank you for another excellent recap as everything starts to crumble for Sergio, including his health. I loved the title. Yes, Sergio, as they say " life is what happens to you while you are making other plans . " You had it all and you got greedy and overconfident. Guess it's true that you just can't have your cake and eat, too.
Alicia is concerned about Serg as any decent person would be despite the despicable way he has been treating her. However, his mask has fallen off , and she now sees his true nature . No way will she go back to him now that she knows what he is.
I think that not letting Alicia and Martin have their HEA would defeat the purpose of the constant PSAs about agism that this tn has been throwing at us at every turn .
Miranda and Yuri will have their good guys, and Gonzalo will have hiss saint of a novia Lorena .
No idea what The writers will do to Eva . These writers must have mother issues to write this awful in every way character.
Susanlynn, thank you so much.
"Saint of a novia" was a good one!
Well, we still have a way to go and as we know from years of watching, anything can and does happen right at the end.
Diana
JoelD: Something tells me the Body Count increases again down the road.
Lizia is taking a huge risk with all of that $$$.
Diana: Big question is whether Psycho Leo would kill Counselo ?
Steve Boudreaux
Susanlynn'These writers must have mother issues to write this awful in every way character.' ROTFL So true!
Toxic mothers exist. People in the USA who couldn't make the boast of "mom and apple pie" have known this for ages. It wasn't until 1986 that we had books about it.
Authors who had toxic mothers will write about it because those who didn't don't understand it. Check out the Toxic Mother discussions in the Weekend section. There are many worse than Eva.
RGVCHICK, LOVELY RECAP TO GO WITH THESE WACKY CHARACTERS.
That's an interesting question
Miranda had the nerve to ask
"Whats wrong with out daddy?"
I'm like really? After seeing what he put your mom through? You've had a front row seat to
The circus that is Sergio the
jackass yo daddy,insulting your
Mother,berating your mother, he
Treats her like shes something on the bottom of his shoe, he kicked her out of her home in front of everybody and he just made her feel useless as a human being and yall joined in the insult fest and dont get me started on the gambler(grandma)
And your big sister is about to marry somebody who is triple the child of hell daddy is. And you ask "what's wrong with our daddy?" RIGHT! Dontcha just loves this family? Not a rant
Just an observation.
If you say something to a person enough they will start believe it. Alicia believes all that crap about her and martin
Not makin it cuz shes older and hes younger. Why not the same thing with the old guy and the younger woman? That question has been asked to death. Well
That's life,Not mine thank God.
Ok I'm done for now this other one is on, before this one and it's getting gooood.
Thank you Ms Chicky.
Ps, didn't the leech tell Mabel to go after martin? Is she so intimidated by alicia that she would try and ruin her ever more? Shes got Sergio, shes got the big house, and she is now
Carrying his spawn, why go after the wife who she got the stupid to kick out the family home? Yep shes a leech. Martin
Open your eyes baby.
