**Malverde: El Santo Patrón debuted on Tuesday. Starring Latin Grammy Award winner Pedro Fernández and Mexican actor Carolina Miranda, the novela tells the story of Jesús Malverde (1870-1909), one of the most well-known and controversial Mexican figures of the past 150 years. He was an outlaw who became a legend, a religious icon, and protector of the innocent, poor, and dispossessed. He is celebrated to this day as a folk saint by some in Mexico and the United States, including among drug traffickers. All this week's episodes can be found on Telemundo's website.
Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.

I have been AWOL all week, working on our corporate tax return with our CPA. Ugh!
I have watched all the episodes this week, just haven't had time to hang out here on the blog.
I will put up a recap tonight after I watch tonight's episode.
Hercai - #71 – Parte 1 de 4
Yaren, dripping with sarcasm, tells Reyyan that she must have missed her a lot to be spending time in her room, looking through her things. Reyyan tells her that she has been looking for a letter. She describes it as having been in a bag with her father’s things. Reyyan gets emotional, saying that the letter is important for their whole family. Yaren asks why she didn’t take better care of it, if it’s so important, instead of batting her eyelashes at the one who pushed her father down the stairs. Yaren then makes a mistake, saying that Reyyan “forgot” the bag of her father’s things. Reyyan catches this right away, saying she had only said it was lost. Reyyan: “You took it!”
Hazar has been cuddling with Gul and coloring things with crayons while Zehra has that same guilty look on her face. Azat comes in to talk with his uncle. But then he hears the heated argument between Reyyan and Yaren and goes to see what’s up.
Reyyan has Yaren by the shoulders and is shaking her. Half of the roaches run into the room. Yaren begins to suck up to Nasuh, reminding him about when he said that Reyyan had ruined all their lives. She goes on to say that every bad thing that’s happened is Reyyan’s fault. Azat comes in, closes the door behind him, and tells Yaren to stop lying. “You are the guilty one!” Cihan and Handan try to hush him up. Nasuh: “What do you mean?” Azat: “You want to know the truth? Your favorite grandchild knew from the beginning that the family would be ruined! She knew Reyyan would be humiliated and didn’t say anything to prevent it. The one who stained your honor was not Reyyan. It was Yaren.”’
We see Reyyan’s eyes fill with tears as she realizes that being left in that cabin and being thrown into the square in Midyat, all of that could have been prevented had Yaren told what she knew. Azat: “Tell them you didn’t hear Gonul and Sultana talking about how the Aslanbey would treat Reyyan after the wedding. You could have stopped this before it happened. But you wanted to see Reyyan humiliated, and you didn’t care that the rest of the family would be shamed before the whole town.” He goes on to say that his parents are as guilty as Yaren, and so is he himself. “What kind of family are we? Yaren tortures Reyyan and what do you do?”
“Is this true?” The elephant seal roars at the top of his lungs. Yaren grovels on her knees [Gotta say it; novelera is enjoying this scene a lot!] Nasuh is enraged and shows no pity. [Careful, Nasuh. It’s still too early for that stroke. There’s a lot of humble pie still to be eaten.] He raises the same hand he used to raise, but this time toward Yaren. But Saint Reyyan gets in the way. Tears streaming down her cheeks, she says that there have been enough fights in this house, blows, tears. Her father is ill. Her sister is in danger [does she mean the bullet in her head?], and her mother is pregnant. She begs then not to make Yaren suffer what she has suffered. [But…wait…I want some more Yaren suffering!]
Hercai - #71 – Parte 2 de 4
Reyyan turns to Yaren and says she never understood why she always hated her. Her father treated Yaren like another daughter. “How could you do this to my father? I get it; you hated me enough to see my whole family suffer. But, you did this to my grandfather who never gave me a kiss in my whole life. You harmed him, and he always loved you. Why do this to one who looked at you as if you were a precious jewel? Only God knows. I don’t harbor resentments against any of you. Just…please…never let my mother and father know about this.” She leaves the room.
Yaren is stricken and tries to tell Handan that she never wanted to harm the family. Handan replies that that’s exactly what Yaren dreamed of. But she was only thinking about harming Reyyan. She never thought her plan would blow up in her face. Handan then changes tack and tells her daughter that she herself is to blame. She was the one who created this egotistical person. Yaren sobs on her mother’s lap.
Miran comes home. HAG sees him come through the door and runs to one of those outside couches. She’s ready for another performance. When Miran sits beside her she starts blaming Reyyan for coming to the konak and disturbing everyone. “What was she saying to you?” Miran tells her the truth, that Reyyan wanted him to work with her to find the truth. HAG asks what’s supposed to be in that letter. Miran replies that it is supposed to show Hazar’s innocence. OK…time for a FF>>> HAG starts in on her same old, same old about the evil Sadoglus.
HAG then tries for the pity party. She knows he hasn’t forgiven her. [For saying she’d kill the woman he loves and blame it on her cousin? You mean that thing, you rotten HAG?] On and on she goes about caring for him since he was a boy. Then…once again…what’s in the letter?
Miran: “It’s about my mother. The letter supposedly says that my mother asked Hazar Sadoglu for help in escaping the hell of this mansion, and he accepted! This letter could prove that Hazar Sadoglu tried to save my mother.”
My poor TV had a narrow escape. I came soooo close to putting a shoe through it when HAG started moaning about how much she loved Dilsuh. And how much she wished she could have given her own life in Dilsuh’s place. Sultana pokes her head out and listens to part of this tearful bullpucky. Miran tells HAG that his aunt once told him that his father was violent toward his mother. HAG blurts out that, if there is such a letter, Hazar wrote it himself.
Miran, looking fierce, tells her that, if this letter exists, he’ll prove to everyone that Hazar Sadoglu is a liar. “I know my mother’s handwriting!” HAG scoffs at this, saying he was only a baby when she died. Miran pulls out a picture of his mother with her handwriting on the back. She’s pregnant in the picture and has written that she’ll see her Miran’s face within two months and she knows he’ll be as brave as his father [!!]
Hercai - #71 – Parte 3 de 4
HAG, voice shaking a bit, asks where he found the picture. He replies that Sultana found it when they arrived from Kars. HAG just says that she hopes the letter will be found soon and moves away so Miran can’t see the fury on her face. But Viewerville can see it.
Reyyan has gone to see her parents. She lies that what they heard was just another of Yaren’s “things”. We see some more guilty looks from Zehra. Reyyan tells her parents that she wants to go away for a few days. She then comforts Gul, saying it will only be for a short time. She’s going away with Melike and to another set of Melike’s grandparents. [This is to calm Hazar who is well aware that Miran can find the first set of Melike’s grandparents that were shown.] Hmmm. Zehra is perfectly fine with Reyyan’s taking this little trip, saying she needs to rest. [Does she think the hullaballoo about the letter will simmer down if Reyyan is away?]
Azize is in her room telling herself that, if the letter appears, her plans go in the garbage. Esma comes in bringing her some coffee on a tray. HAG yells at poor Esma asking her where that picture came from.
Miran is on his way out the door when Sultana catches him up. She tells him that many of the bad things that are happening to him lately are because of what his grandmother is saying. “You always want to know the truth, but you’re asking the wrong people.” When he accuses her of spying on people, she readily admits to it. She goes on to say she’s gathering it all up for when the right moment comes. She tells Miran that maybe his mother really wanted to escape from her tortures in this house.
When he starts to yell at her, she orders him to stop! “All the men in this house like to yell and behave like madmen. You’re one of them. You’ve all been creations of Azize Aslanbey. It’s time to tell you how my son died!” She raises her blouse to show the awful burn mark from the hot iron. Gonul, Sehriyar, Firat, and Elif also see the scar. [But Gonul had seen it once before in an earlier episode.]
Gonul runs outside and Firat follows her.
Looking more sinister than ever, HAG tells Esma that her orders were clear. Everything of Dilsuh’s was to be destroyed and not a single scrap of anything should remain. Miran just then opens the door and begins to once again prove Sultana right by yelling that he wants the truth. “How did Gonul’s brother die?” He turns to Esma and asks her the same question. When they just look shifty-eyed, he says that his tía was telling him the truth.
After he leaves HAG tells Esma that Esma knows how much she (HAG) has sacrificed to get Miran to this point. In a menacing way she says that she’ll end anyone who interferes. “You’ll pay if I learn you had anything to do with this letter. Think what you’ll lose if you become an obstacle. Think about Firat.”
Firat is talking with Gonul in the street. She seems unhinged with all the awful things going on. She tells him: “You saw that scar! What pain my mother has experienced at the hands of my grandmother. We don’t even smile in that house any more.”
Hercai - #71 – Parte 4 de 4
As usual Yusuf brings out the best in Nasuh. Nasuh tells him about when Zehra had Reyyan, and she was brought home from the hospital. He didn’t look at her face. He was afraid he’d come to love her. The reason was because she wasn’t his blood. “I didn’t care about my son’s happiness. I only wanted him to marry a girl without problems. I had no pity for the child. I wanted her to die because she’d ruined my lineage. What sin did this poor girl ever commit?”
Yusuf tells Nasuh that he raised a son with the right values. “Hazar has a great heart. You may not have looked at her, but the girl learned to love. She loves her parents. She even loves you!” Nasuh: “How can I live with all the pain I’ve caused her?” Yusuf responds that perhaps yesterday he didn’t realize it but today he does. “Now you can begin to give her what she deserves.”
Reyyan comes by the two old guys, bearing a tray with some cake on it. Gul is with her. She offers some to Nasuh but, when he doesn’t accept, she just moves on sadly.
Gonul keeps pouring out her heart to Firat. She says that the whole household is only happy when they are asleep and dreaming. When Firat tells her that he’s her family, she moves into his arms and tells him that her brother is still alive. And then she goes on to tell him about all the things that happened, including her having stabbed herself.
Azat comforts his father. Cihan is blaming himself. He says that all the things they’ve hidden over the years ha lanzado Reyyan a la hoguera (thrown Reyyan onto a bonfire). He says that it almost cost his brother his life. He hid the awful things his daughter did and kept trying to curry favor with his father. “Our family has paid a high price for what Yaren has done.” He tells Azat that he’s treated him the same way he was treated by Nasuh. “What happened to my daughter? How did she get such a dark heart?” Azat tells his father that there is still time for them to love each other in a better way.
Firat asks Gonul why abuela would want Gonul to consent to divorcing Miran. She replies: “For the vengeance. If Miran had not been able to marry Reyyan, he would have forgotten all about the vengeance and have left…going after Reyyan. “If Miran hadn’t ruined her original plan, I’d have never known about my brother being alive. Everything she does is for the vengeance…separate Miran from the woman he loves, separate me from my brother.”
The scales fall from Firat’s eyes. “All these years she’s lied! Where is your brother?” Gonul says that she doesn’t know, but she’ll find him. She walks purposefully back toward Hell House.
We see Sultana asleep in a dark room. Two men enter, cover her mouth with a hand, and drag her out of her bed and out the door. I don’t think we need too many guesses as to who arranged this.
Hi novelera! We have definitely missed you this week. Thank you for still composing this marvelous recap while on work deadlines. We went from Sleepy Time tea to Red bull speed last night with everything going on. You captured it all with great snark and description.
So Yaren definitely has that letter and good for Azat for finally exposing that she is the one responsible for everything that has happened. “What kind of family are we? Yaren tortures Reyyan and what do you do?” Thank you Azat!
[But…wait…I want some more Yaren suffering!] Me too!! I think that smelly, pock marked hubby is finally going to happen. Cihan and Handan made some progress to accept that they had a hand in creating the Yaren monster.
It was nice to see GT at least feel a little bit guilty as he talked to Yusef.
HAG was at a superior, awful best last night. “My poor TV had a narrow escape. I came soooo close to putting a shoe through it when HAG started moaning about how much she loved Dilsah.” Ha! No kidding!
Miran is so brainwashed he just eats it all up! We might have to actually find Dilsah alive somewhere to get him to finally believe the truth. dondi356 said something this week about hoping Dilsah might be alive and Hazar end up with his true love. I like that theory a lot!
The scales fall from Firat’s eyes. “All these years she’s lied! Where is your brother?” Gonul says that she doesn’t know, but she’ll find him. She walks purposefully back toward Hell House.” Lots of reveals last night. I am starting to wonder if Firat really is the lost son and brother.
What is Sultana’s game? Glad she gave Miran the picture of his mother and showed him what happened to kill her supposedly dead son. Being hauled off by Azize minions in the middle of the night, does not bode well for her at all.
Loved the recap novelera! Thank you!
Wow, novelera, you've outdone yourself with this superb recap! It not only covers everything but is also a joy to read, with lots of delightful snark. I especially enjoyed "[Careful, Nasuh. It’s still too early for that stroke. There’s a lot of humble pie still to be eaten]" and "[But…wait…I want some more Yaren suffering!]." And I loved your referring to Nasuh as the roaring "elephant seal" and to HAG's sitting down on the couch, ready for "another performance."
I was very nervous as Miran was telling HAG about the letter and then showing her Dilsah's photo with her writing on the back. I thought he should have held back some of that info, keeping HAG from realizing how close he and Reyyan might be to uncovering the truth. And we see HAG respond accordingly, first by threatening Esma and then by sending the men to kidnap Sultana. Sultana has shown herself to be a survivor multiple times, but I'm wondering whether her skill and luck have run out.
Like VVS, I found myself wondering again whether Firat could be Gonul's brother. I remember Gonul rummaging through HAG's papers and finding something, but I don't recall what that was, and whatever it was didn't spell out anything specific, IIRC.
If Sultana doesn't survive, it's especially important that Gonul have some family left. And even if Sultana does survive, I'd like to see Gonul find her brother.
I'm glad you got such an eventful episode to recap. You more than did it justice. Many thanks once again!
I watched half of the first episode and had some difficulty sorting out the characters. I sometimes put up recaps for the first episode, kind of liking the challenge. But I was very short on time this week. I do plan to catch up on the weekend and see what I think. In some ways it reminded me of the Zorro telenovela on Telemundo, with Christian Meier as the titular character. I liked that one a lot.
You got a good episode, novelera, and in turn gave us a great recap! Thank you! Totally agree with all your snark.
Big, big thank you to Azat and I hope they keep his character good to the end. That’s if he makes it to the end.
"[But…wait…I want some more Yaren suffering!]." Reyyan ruined our fun. Bring on the Pasha’s son!
Of course, Zehra is happy to have Rey leave. Less chance of Rey hearing the truth from Hazar. Is Rey really going to Melike’s family? Or is this a secret mission somewhere else. Wherever it is, I’m sure Miran will show up.
Juanita, IIRC, Gonul found adoption papers. Esma adopted Firat. And I was nervous, too, when Miran flashed that pic with Dilsah’s handwriting. HAG is gonna go after it. Hey Miran, sleep with one eye open.
I'm anxious to see what happens to Sultana. They are really making it seem like Firat is her missing son. But I don't trust the writers.
dondi351
I watched. I’m a bit disappointed, maybe I was expecting too much. I’m not feeling Pedro Fernandez as Malverde. And Mark Tacher is playing a gringo creep that reminds me of Ale in LRDS2. I like the actresses, though. I’m not giving up on it yet.
Ha, I made a typo in my last post. I didn’t change my number, I’m still 356.
dondi356
Novelera, Thank you for recounting every moment of the lying, crying, yelling . ....which is pretty much what has been happening in even episode .
Nasuh is softening . Yusaf could know stuff and be a good influence on the old grouch.
I am glad Reyyan is taking a break .We know Miran will go looking for her . They are always better when they get away from their crazy families .
Thanks very much, dondi356, for reminding me that what Gonul found were adoption papers. IIRC, when she found them, she wondered whether perhaps Firat was her brother. Now she doesn't seem to be thinking that way. But it definitely seems plausible to me. Unless he's Hanife's son. We've never found out what has made Hanife so loyal for so long. If Firat were Hanife's son, that might explain why HAG has put him in charge of all the Aslanbey resources--he would be HAG's nephew, the closest thing to a son she still has. Of course, the relationship would be perhaps even closer if Firat were Sultana's son and hence HAG's grandson (because his father would be HAG's son). But somehow, given Sultana's hatred of HAG and HAG's distrust of Sultana, I can't see HAG giving Sultana's son so much power.
More fuel for the cr@ckpot.
Sultana is blindfolded and dragged out to face Azize, who is waiting at the konak’s entrance. There is a car with an open door waiting out in the street. Elif watches unnoticed from above. Sultana’s blindfold is removed and Azize speaks, do you know you can destroy someone without killing them? Do you see that car there? If we turn on the engine, it will go on a trip far away. It will come back but you won’t.
Azize continues, lock your door while you sleep. I warned you but you didn’t listen. Azize tells Sultana this is her last chance. If I drag you out of bed again, HAG says, there’s only one place you will go. Listen, shut your door, shut your mouth and watch your back. Never forget that you are dealing with Azize Aslanbey. HAG signals for the men to let Sultana loose to shuffle away. Elif sobs up on the terrace.
Sultana makes her way back to her bed and sobs. Your DIL will shut her door and shut her mouth, she says. I won’t do anything, but I swear I’ll never forget what happened tonight. A car may leave this house but it will be to take your remains to the Sadoglu mansion.
Reyyan is out on the terrace. She replays her father’s words about Miran’s heart of stone and Azat thinking the letter is useless. Rey is undeterred. She vows to move forward for her father’s sake. Miran’s phone call interrupts her thoughts. We are looking at the same sky, he tells her, do you think that your breath wasn’t enough. She looks around the konak but doesn’t see him. [but he’s got to be there, right?] She hangs up. Stalker Miran continues talking to himself. You may not be able to sleep because of the voices in your head. I know it hurts to be against me. You probably wish we could be together.
Reyyan hears footsteps and turns. It’s Yusuf. We see that Miran was about to make his move to Reyyan but now he has to back off. Yusuf notices Rey’s dead plant. Who allowed this beautiful plant to dry up, he asks? Rey answers the plant is dead. (Cut to Miran listening in.) How do you know, Yusuf answers, it may have strong roots. Once a plant takes root and begins to flourish, it’s hard for it to give up. (Cut to Miran again) The same could be said about love, the philosopher Yusuf adds. If its roots are strong, it will engulf your heart and no one can uproot it.
Yusuf takes the plant with him for some TLC. Reyyan calls him back, do you know Master Gabriel, the metalsmith? Yusuf knows him and informs her that Gabriel has retired and has moved to Mazidagi to live with his son. Yusuf wonders why she’s asking. Rey replies, no reason, my father mentioned him once and I was wondering if he is still alive.
Rey calls Miran. We need to talk its urgent. And what do you know…he walks right up behind her. She turns and they are practically nose to nose. As you wish, he says. Why are you in my house, she asks? You’re not in our house with me so I came here, he replies. [ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer] Rey is a bit worried, did you forget what happened the last time you came? She tells him to leave.
Why don’t you leave instead, he counters. She starts to walk away but he steps in front of her. He puts his hand over her heart and puts her hand over his heart. Because I’m still here and you are here, he tells her, you are mine. Even if we wanted, we can’t be apart.
She backs away. I left you a long time ago, she says. We’ll stay together until we learn the truth. There is no “us” anymore. Miran responds, no, “Reyyan yoksa, Miran zaten yok” - if there’s no Reyyan, then there’s no Miran. You are the air I breathe.
He takes her hands and says, look, my touch still excites you. Your palms are sweaty [how romantic], your hands are shaking [better]. You try to fight it, but your eyes and heart give you away. Your heart is so big that you can’t ignore so much love.
dondi356
She pulls away again. Let me go, Miran. I said there’s no “us”. She holds out the ring. No, no, he panics. He thinks she is giving it back. But she tells Miran that her father had this ring made for Dilsah and she found Master Gabriel, the man who made it.
No surprise that this upsets Miran. I‘m trying to control myself, he says, but Hazar Sadoglu has crossed the line. My father gave that ring to my mother, he insists. When my mother died, she was wearing that ring. Your father is lying, Reyyan. Ok, if it’s a lie we will find out, she replies. You said we’d search for a truth that made sense and that you were ready for anything. Miran claims he is ready for anything. [I suspect it’s only because he thinks he’s right about everything] Rey tells him to leave and don’t call until I contact you. She leaves him.
Elif is sneaks up to Sultana’s door and hesitates to knock. She steps away then steps back and puts her hand on the handle. She backs off again. She softly says, grandma, you’re going to kill us all. She walks away.
There were edits to the following scene and they changed the song. Here’s the complete scene and song:
Ben Yoruldum Hayat/I’m Tired of Life

Lyrics: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/hayat-life.html-3#songtranslation
Reyyan sits on the stairs and stares at the ring. She drops it and it falls down the steps. Meanwhile, Miran looks at pics of his mother and Reyyan side by side. [Hmmm…they resemble each other.] He puts the pics back in his inside jacket pocket.
Yaren looks like she cried the night away on her bed, not even changing out of her clothes. Cihan enters her room. He sits on the bed next to her and he strokes her hair. He launches into a long speech. When you mother learned she was pregnant for the second time “if I don’t have a daughter, I’ll be a mother without a companion. I hope this baby is a girl”. [Unfortunately, she got a snake instead.]
Cihan pours out his heart to his heartless daughter. [I'm condensing here] As your father, I swore I‘d never leave you, he says, you were such a beautiful baby, that I was afraid to hold you. They fiercely protected her. She became her mother’s close companion, and he was even a little jealous.
He begins to lament, then something happened, and you started to distance yourself more and more from us. I didn’t understand what was happening. I thought it was normal because of your age. Now in hindsight, it was a lot more serious. [Ya think?] You put a wall between us. I feel like I don’t know you, Yaren. As parents, we always tried to cover your mistakes because we didn’t want anyone to break your heart. We didn’t want you to be sad. We thought we knew you but…. I don’t know when you became a young woman so full of hate. How did we hurt you to make you like this? He kisses her head.
All this time, weepy Yaren has kept her back to her father, not turning to look at him. She finally wipes her face, gets up and takes a pic out of her bed table. A pic of the Sadoglu family. She places it on the bed.
I don’t know why they cut Yaren’s explanation, I think it’s important. That picture showed her when she was 10. It was a feast day and her brother and Reyyan went out to collect candy. Then they played games in the street. Yaren was not allowed to collect candy or play. GT didn’t allow her to do the things that Reyyan did because she (Yaren) was a Sadoglu and there was a higher standard for her. GT didn’t allow her to play with Reyyan.
dondi356
Yaren cries that it wasn’t Reyyan that was missing out, it was her. And her father never once questioned this. She breaks out into sobs, my father never said, “let her collect candy, get dirty, play on the street, climb a tree…” because you were trying so hard to please my grandfather. That’s why we were distant. My grandfather raised me, she says. Cihan hugs Yaren. The edited scene ends.
Yaren gets up from the bed and declares, I am Yaren Sadoglu. I will overcome this, too. I won’t wallow in a corner. Are you going to punish me? Do it. Are you going to lock me up? Do it. I can overcome it all. She goes to the mirror and tells herself, I am Nasuh Sadoglu’s masterpiece. Then she turns to her father, I am the great Yaren Sadoglu. She wipes her face and leaves the room. Cihan looks shocked, maybe a bit horrified.
Yaren sees Nasuh sitting out on the terrace. She approaches him and it seems like he ignores her. She storms off.
Yusuf goes to sit with Nasuh. He asks, did you spend the whole night out here? No answer. Don’t do this, Yusuf says. Nasuh tells him, my grandfather was a great man, my father was a great man. I am a great man now. I have upheld the Sadoglu lineage. I am the keeper of the bloodline. The properties and lands belong to me and no one else. I’ve never felt desperate or given up. But I’m desperate now, Yusuf! For the first time, I feel lost. I don’t know how to keep my family together. How will we overcome these tragedies.
Yusuf assures Nasuh that he will find the way to keep the family together. Don’t let your conscience play against you, he advises. Do what you know is right. Things will get better once Hazar recovers. GT worries that Reyyan is digging into the past. She’s asking questions. She wants to know for her father’s sake.
What did you say, Yusuf asks? What do you think, Nasuh replies, I said nothing. Yusuf informs Nasuh that Rey asked about Master Gabriel. We need to stop her, Nasuh says, we need to erase the past for everyone’s sake, especially Hazar’s. So, you won’t tell her what you know, Yusuf asks? How can I, Nasuh answers, you know everything I’m connected to. Yusuf sighs and nods.
Nasuh continues, it took months for Hazar to recover after that incident. Luckily, he doesn’t remember anything. But if he starts to remember the past… if he finds even a small detail… I’ve been tested twice and I’ve almost lost my son twice. I won’t risk him again. I can’t hurt him like that.
Gul is in the kitchen with Nigar and Hanife. Nigar made çiğ börek for her. Yusuf comes in and starts to flirt with Nigar. There’s a series of events where Yusuf tries to make coffee and spills it, he bumps heads with Nigar, she burns the börek, Yusuf burns his hand. Gul and Hanife laugh.
Nigar leaves the kitchen to get ointment for Yusuf. She runs into Zehra. Zehra asks her how long she’s been working at the mansion. Too many to count, Nigar replies, why do you ask? Yusuf comes out of the kitchen and listens. Zehra asks, did you ever see Mr. Hazar and Dilsah together? No, Nigar says she came after that but she knows the story. Hazar loved a young woman who died. Yusuf is troubled by this.
Nasuh visits with Hazar. Nasuh asks about Reyyan, he hasn’t seen her. Hazar tells him that they sent her away for a few days. Nasuh says that’s good and he hopes she didn’t go alone. Hazar looks surprised by his father’s response and says that Melike went with Rey. Zehra enters the room. Conversation ends.
I have no idea where Reyyan and Melike are. I don’t see any grandparents. Rey nervously looks out on the street. Melike asks, are you expecting someone? [does she have to ask?] Here comes Miran, right on cue. Melike realizes this was set up and she’s not happy. Rey tells her she’s going to prove her father’s innocence.
dondi356
Are you going with Miran, Melike asks? Rey says, I have to prove he’s wrong or this war will never end. She tells Melike they are going to Mazidagi and will be back tonight. They are looking for Master Gabriel. Melike understands but doesn’t want her to go. Rey leaves with Miran.
Hanife and Nigar take a break out on the patio. They gossip a bit. Ha, Hanife compares the Sadoglus to the Kennedys [yep, she said that in the Turkish, too] Hanife mentions that Yaren turned out worse than they thought. Gul comes to sit with them. Handan shows up just as Hanife complains of too much lemon in the tea. Handan tells her to drink it because lemon helps burn fat. [lol] But before that she should take care of her tongue.
Handan orders the ladies to get up and clean the house to get rid of the bad luck. In typical fashion, Hanife and Handan start to spar. Handan asks Nigar to take Gul to the kitchen.
Handan warns Hanife with the story about the frog and the scorpion. Then she adds, old habits never die. Are you the scorpion or the frog? Hanife plays like she’s offended. Of course, she’s only a mere frog. Handan says, exactly, you could never be a scorpion, but I can. I’m a scorpion who knows how to swim. I won’t hesitate to kill. You’re out of things to threaten me with (since Yaren’s been exposed), so watch your back. Now get up, Handan shouts. Get to work!
ReyMir arrive in Mazidagi. Miran stops at a food stand to ask for directions to Master Gabriel. The man knows Master Gabriel and gives directions. He also gives Miran something for them to eat, some sort of kebap, on the house. He tells Miran to give Master Gabriel his regards, they haven’t seen him around for a while and are worried. [I hope he is still alive.]
Back in the car, Rey asks Miran if he got the info. Yes. Big smile from Rey. Thank goodness! Let’s go! Miran says, I wish I could always make you this happy. Her smile leaves and she reminds him they are only here for her father. I’ll be the happiest woman on Earth when we prove his innocence, she says. They drive off.
They pull up to the house given in the directions. There are no lights. Maybe no one is home. Miran thinks they could be sleeping. He asks, what are we going to do now? We will wait, she says, what else can we do? Do you want to wait here all night, he asks? She gets out of the car and he follows. They walk up to the house. Rey knocks on the door. A light comes on and a man answers the door.
And we are out.
ps for Susanlynn, look who answered Master Gabriel’s door!
It’s the actor who played Huseyin in KPA.
I think they could have finished KPA a few episodes earlier. It became repetitive. But I wasn’t going to give up. I had to see how everything ended. I held my breath until the last second, waiting to see if we would get an HEA. I am anxious to know what you think about the ending.

Thanks VERY much, dondi356, for this excellent, detailed recap with delightful snark. I'm especially grateful to you for supplying the missing explanation Yaren offers. I too am puzzled that Telemundo omitted it. Indeed, they showed the photo for what seemed like a fraction of a second. I couldn't even tell who was in it before it disappeared, and that was that. I'm not sure Yaren's explanation fully accounts for her extraordinary nastiness, but it certainly helps.
I wonder what Nasuh is referring to when he says to Yusuf, "you know everything I’m connected to," and Yusuf nods and seems to agree that Nasuh is right not to say anything. I assume it will help to explain Azize's crazed thirst for venganza.
Like you, I'm a bit worried that Gabriel may have died. I assume the person who came to the door was his son. That doesn't prove that Gabriel is dead, of course, but.... Then again, only three more weeks remain, so some revelations need to come SOON. Hopefully Gabriel's account may be one of them.
A little pressed for time today, just wanted to thank you for another superior recap dondi356. I appreciate that you added the bit that Telemundo cut regarding the depths of Yaren’s craziness and determination. That was important. I could have done without the stupid frog/scorpion story that Handan told Hanife. I also appreciated the montage scene with the fitting music: I’m Tired of Life. Interesting regrets from GT and Nasuh, sadness and almost torture felt by Sultana and Elif.
“Why are you in my house, she asks? You’re not in our house with me so I came here, he replies. [ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer]” Reyyan is sort of getting on my nerves.
When ReyMir made the turn off to Mazidagi, it appeared to me that another car was following them. I wonder if Nasuh sent someone to warn off Master Gabriel (if he is alive) from saying anything to Reyyan.
I am going to be very, very unhappy when the next three weeks flash by and we still know very little. Gosh, I hope Telemundo only does a short respite for Hercai. I have enjoyed recapping and sharing the crackpot theories with all of you!
Thanks again dondi356. I really enjoyed the recap.
Yaren didn't get to go trick or treating with Rey and Azat , so she became a witch. Boo hoo . Whatever . Bring on her groom.
Wow,Az orders her henchmen to grab Sultana out of her cozy bed and put a scare into her. Yikes .... lock.your door, Sultana .
It seems that yusaf is a good guy who knows a lot about Nasty Nasuh. Is yusef just a friend ? I think that the writers are working to redeem Grumpy Gramps.
dondi356, I think the person following Miran has been sent by Azize, not just now, but certainly ever since Hazar left the hospital, or perhaps even before. There was a scene where Mahmoud reported to Azize that Miran had left the hospital. Azize asks whether someone is following him, and Mahmoud assures her that yes, someone is following him. IIRC, Azize says she wants someone following Miran no matter where he goes. I'm not sure whether there was someone following Miran when he goes to see Reyyan, but it's possible. Certainly any time Miran drives anywhere, he's being followed. That was also true when he stopped and asked for directions to Gabriel's house.
Susanlynn, thanks so much for the interesting information about last names, especially involving Smith. The only one you mentioned that I knew was Schmidt. I had no idea that all these other names, most very common, were the equivalent in other languages.
Thanks, everyone. Great comments.
Yaren mentioned a couple of other slights she suffered, and I didn’t feel sorry for her one bit. It’s nowhere near the suffering that Reyyan went through in her childhood at the hands of GT. But I suppose it explains a few things.
VVS and Juanita: I didn’t notice if anyone followed Miran, but as we know, Azize wanted him followed. And she didn’t receive any reports in this ep. We know that Nasuh wants to stop Rey on her fact-finding mission. But she’s already made it to Gabriel’s house, or so it seems. It would be funny if they are both being followed, each by their own family.
Susanlynn, cool info about origin of names. I know a couple of Herreras and lots of Ferraras. Ferrara comes right from the Latin for iron. But when I hear Ferrara, I think of cannoli, not blacksmiths. Anyone familiar with NYC will know what I mean.
VVS, I hope Telemundo doesn’t keep us hanging. We are already one third into the dizi and we are starting to get some movement. I want answers!

Thank you, dondi356. Enjoyed the recap and the side notes. And thanks for the cut scene and the cut song link.
That is an interesting part they cut with Yaren. When Reyyan and Yaren were growing up they envied each other but for different reasons. Reyyan saw the preferential treatment Yaren gets from her grandfather and Yaren saw Reyyan's relative freedom, less control by her grandfather, ability to play outside and have friends. They were raised by Nasuh to resent each other. I think Reyyan resents Yaren too. And Yaren embraced it and became a snake.
When Miran brought that kebab wrap to Reyyan in the car, she complained about it saying "is it really a time to eat?" Why not say thank you. After several hours of driving I would be happy to get a kebab wrap.
I am glad Reyyan keeps looking for the truth and does it with Miran. It lets them continue to get to know each other. And, possibly, they will uncover something.
Thanks so much, dondi, for the excellent recap and also for the cut scene giving a partial explanation for Yaren's becoming the snake she is. I almost thought she felt badly enough after being exposed for having kept quiet about the Aslanbey revenge to be on the way to redemption. But...that scene with her father seemed to predict something different.
Sometimes I wonder if it's the Telemundo cuts or my brain starting to fail on me. How did Reyyan know about the man who made Dilsuh's ring? If they gave a good explanation for this, it went right by me.
One of the most interesting things for me was Nasuh's conversation with Yusuf. There might have been a mention of Hazar not remembering what happened in that big scene in the past when he presumably came to rescue Dilsuh. I sort of remember him saying that to someone. Nasuh made it clear that Hazar had PTSD or partial amnesia about those events. And that he wanted to keep it that way. Nasuh seems to think Hazar would fall apart if he remembered everything clearly.
I am beginning to be a bit bored with Miran's saying the same thing over and over to Reyyan. And he can't seem to grasp the fact that her belief (based on her father's lie) that he'd pushed her adored father down the stairs and almost cost him his life made their being together impossible.
Come on, Elif! I'm tired of your being a wimp! Of course it was too soon for the truth to come out, but she should have just shrugged off Esma and gone to tell Reyyan that she was the one who pushed Hazar.
I suppose the writers need Sultana being sarcastic on a regular basis. That must be why they didn't have Azize send her guys to have Sultana "sleep with the fishes".
Whoever the actor is that portrays Yusuf, I adore him. He frequently has that "twinkle in his eye". And, as in most telenovelas, a main character (Nasuh), even a villain, usually has some sidekick to speak with for plot development. But this Yusuf is the personification of a wise and kindly older man. He is the only one capable of reining in Nasuh.
Novelera, IIRC, Hazar told Reyyan about Gabriel's having made the ring for Hazar to give to Dilsah. (So, unwittingly, Miran's protest that his father gave the ring to his mother is true.)
Thanks, Lucio and novelera.
Lucio, I keep thinking about that kebap. I’ll have to make a trip to my local Turkish restaurant soon.
I find Yaren’s explanation interesting. This chick has serious psychological problems, but I’m not qualified to make a diagnosis. A schemer and manipulator, she shows no remorse for any of the horrible things she’s done. Can’t stand those BS tears of hers. She doesn’t love Miran either. I don’t think she’s capable of loving anyone. She’s dangerous. Can she be redeemed?
novelera, I hoped more would come of the Nasuh/Yusuf convo. It was just more of the same mysterious hints about Nasuh’s “connection” to everything. Perhaps not just with Dilsah but further back with Azize that set everything in motion.
I couldn’t decide if Azize meant she would have Sultana killed or if she would send her back to the manicomio. Maybe that was vague on purpose. Either would strike fear into Sultana.
I like the character and the actor that plays Yusuf, too. But in this ep, I would have rather had them show Yaren’s explanation than Yusuf’s kitchen incident.
Anonymous @ 10:03pm, thanks for the kind words for the recappers. And thanks for sharing your solution to the ReyMir on repeat problem. Unfortunately, I can’t do that for a recap. That’s why I keep my fingers crossed for a decent ep on my night!

Hi Hugo, the short answer to your questions is—yes. They have done all it all, not just to the Turkish dizis but to the Spanish TNs as well. They also have the very bad habit of slicing and dicing shows to death. I think it’s more likely to happen with the Turkish shows because they are longer.
