I have Zoom Book Club tonight. Interesting book: Writers and Lovers by Lily King
I will recap, but it probably won't be a long one.
Thank you novelera and Juanita for your input and info regarding twins. I was of the thought that identical twins mostly shared the same sac, so neither one would survive if that was indeed the case. Now I know that they may share different sacs, too, like fraternal twins. These babies better not be of a different sex, then we’ll know that there’s no way they could be identical twins! But maybe they do use the masculine form in this case as you said novelera……
Thank you so much for your kind comment VVS! I really enjoy this forum and miss it when I’m unable to participate on the daily! It’s my “therapy” so to speak, lol. I need the escapism even when these crazies get on my nerves!
Estupido Selim has come to Yadi’s house and there is a tearful reunion with parents and son. Meanwhile, the odious Munir sits in a taxi outside the house and tips the cops on the location of a fugitive.
Meltem and Ender take a happy walk by the shore. Meltem is ecstatic, scared, and anxious to start over. Ender counsels not to depend on anyone this time. She agrees. Mert is a good guy, he’s in love with you, Ender says, but don’t let him force you into anything. You are the one who controls your life. Meltem says they plan to get married this summer.
On the way to the hotel, Kerim drops the news that his job was canceled, Osman’s MIL is sick. We have the whole day, he says. Fatma thinks they came for nothing. He says he didn’t tell her because he wanted to come with her.
Song: Sen Benim Şarkılarımsın/You Are My Songs

He couldn’t forget the last time they were there. She couldn’t forget either. I thought of coming back under different circumstances, he tells her. Fatma, too. He takes her hand, and she admonishes, hold the wheel with two hands, that’s what a good driver does. Kerim gets even, he stops the car and tells her to drive—show me what a good driver you are. She is reluctant to take over and he says, did you get your license for nothing? They change places and continue.
Selim has showered and washed the dye out of his hair. He’s lost weight so Resat’s clothes fit him now. He asks Hilmiye about Erdo and if she knows how he got caught. Hilmiye deflects. Selim tells them he came back with a fisherman’s help and Ayce helped him the rest of the way here. Resat brings up what Uncle Munir, the worm, did. He ripped off me and my friends. We caught him just in time and got the money back.
Muka is on the way and calls Peri. She forgot all about Muka! She orders Selim to hide. As Muka approaches the house, police cars pull up. Hilmiye sounds the alarm. Muka is surrounded by the flurry of activity. Kadir and Omer show up as well and are surprised to see her there. Munir gets out of his taxi. Muka tells Kadir she made the report.
Selim makes a quick backdoor exit but is caught after a short chase.
Fatma and Kerim arrive at the hotel. He kids her about her driving.
Muka spins some BS. They called me and wanted me to come here. You know Resat came to Rose Kitchen. But why are you here, Kadir asks. Munir walks up, did you people report this? Kadir and Omer say no. Muka says she did it. Munir’s reaction…lol.. I saw something and got suspicious, she tells them. You saw him, Munir asks? Yes and I called immediately. Omer says they heard the report while they were at the station. It was a man who called. Muka spins that too, saying she told a man to make the call for her.
The cops bring Selim back and everyone comes out of the house as they are being taken, too. Munir shouts to them not to talk. I’ll come with you. Everything will be okay.
Hasan Bey has prepared the same room for Fatma and Kerim. He needs ID to register and Kerim pulls out the brand new marriage certificate. They enter the room, and we see smiles this time. And there’s that bed… This was the end of Turkish ep 77.
Flashback to the last time when they wanted two rooms. They didn’t have a chance back then to appreciate how beautiful a place this is. Fatma says let’s unpack. More flashbacks to the last time. Kerim suggests going for a walk.
Fatma gets a call from Meryem. Congratulations, dear… Selim Yasaran is in jail! Fatma quickly tells Kerim and puts it on speaker. Meryem says that Kadir was at the station when the informant called. He was in the servant’s house, and they took the whole family in, too. Anything else, Kerim asks? Meryem leaves out Muka’s involvement. End call.
Our couple is overjoyed. It’s the end, Kerim says. They embrace. He kisses her. Lots of little kisses and then Fatma gives him the bedroom eyes and kisses him back. Looks like that walk will be postponed!
The Yasarans are brought in. Reporters are already there. Kadir and Omer bring Muka. She wonders why they brought her. Kadir says she needs to give her statement since she’s the informant. She says she’s done her duty, she can’t give a statement now. Omer says this has just started, come on.
Resat and Munir start arguing at the station.
Muka uses her kids as an excuse to get out of talking. Kadir asks her again, what was she doing there? How did she know Selim was there? Who told her? Omer says he can’t wait to hear this answer.
Rahmi is disheartened. He asks Meryem, what do I do with Mukaddes? Help me, what do I do? Meryem sighs, I can’t help you. I don’t know what to tell you. This means she still had contact with them, he says, she was the spy among us. What business did she have in that house? Rahmi adds that Muka is a liar. She wasn’t the informant. If she knew where Selim was, why didn’t she tell us? Who knows what she had planned for Fatma?
Rahmi wants to make her pay for this. Meryem tells him to calm down and wait. There must be an explanation. More lies, Rahmi replies. He can’t trust her anymore. He wants a divorce. Meryem wants him to think of the kids. He’s worried the kids will grow up and Muka will put ugly things in their heads. He wants the divorce.
Selim tells the cops he wasn’t on the run. He read the stories in the paper and got worried he would be jailed even though he’s innocent. So he thought he would take a vacation. When Erdo was arrested, I got even more scared. Cop asks, if you are innocent, why not turn yourself in? No one would believe me, Selim replies. The cop asks if he was in Malta with Erdo. Is that what Erdo said, Selim asks? The cop just wants an answer. Selim says he didn’t escape. The questioning goes on and Selim continues to evade and lie. Selim wants to see his lawyer. The cop drops a bomb: it was your lawyer who reported you.
We sit through the rest of the Yasarans’ testimony. You can discuss.
Omer tells Kadir in front of Muka that the snitch was Munir. Muka excuses herself to use the bathroom and panics. How will she get out of this?
Munir tells the cops he is a man who serves justice and this was his duty. It would be difficult for my nephew to prove his innocence while he was on the run. He needed to be here to defend himself. I informed the police so he could clear his name.
While Kadir and Omer discuss what’s happening, Muka sneaks out of the station. Kadir says let her go, the fear of this is enough for now. Later she will have to explain to the prosecutor what she was doing at that house. They laugh. Muka quickly shuffles her way into a taxi.
After lovemaking, Fatma and Kerim cuddle under the covers. Kerim strokes her hair and he looks so content. Fatma looks peaceful. A little tear slips from the corner of Fatma’s eye. She thinks back to the question game they played. She looks at him and he gives her a kiss. Fatma settles again and sheds a few more quiet, happy tears that she wipes away. Flashback to Kerim’s last question: do you love me? She smiles at that now. She tells Kerim, I did give you an answer after you left the room that night. He doesn’t understand. The game we played when we first came, she explains, we were asking questions and you asked, “do you love me?” Oh, yeah, he remembers that “mistake” and how he left in the pouring rain. Fatma says she watched from the window. I said, I loved you when you left. I love you so much, Kerim. I love you, too, he replies. And they go for round two….
Muka is hurrying up the stairs to her apartment and talking to Rahmi on the phone. She’s spinning more lies. But she didn’t expect him to come to the door. He looks very serious and tells her to come in. She rips into him when he says he left the kids at the restaurant. He orders, don’t shout at me! Sit there! I’m asking the questions.
Muka says it’s obvious that Kadir has encouraged this. What lies did he tell you, she asks? I’ll tell you everything now. Rahmi doesn’t want to hear it. My blood is boiling, she says. Tell me, what did he say about me? Rahmi tells her to sit. It’s time to have a serious talk, he says. I am fed up with you. You can’t exist without causing problems. I did nothing, she says. He doesn’t understand her. You don’t love anyone, Mukaddes. You don’t care about anyone. Your mind only works for evil and cruelty. She says he’s going too far.
He continues, you get pleasure out of upsetting people. Making schemes behind everyone’s back. You destroyed Fatmagul’s life. Why are you still picking on her? [Turkish] How many times have you made me ashamed? How many times have you stepped on me? These are your sister’s words, she accuses. Did she ask you to say this? Don’t blame her, Rahmi replies, she went on a short trip with Kerim. How great for them, Muka mocks. Rahmi tells her Fatma doesn’t know she still collaborates with the Yasarans.
Muka whines, I was going to tell you everything. I don’t know what Kadir told you but… Rahmi interrupts and calmly says, I want a divorce. It’s not working, I can’t do this anymore with you. I tried, you know. Many times. I turned a blind eye because you are the mother of my children. I thought you would change. But you always embarrassed me, time and again. My patience is done, Mukaddes. You won’t stop. You won’t behave. You cause harm to those close to us. They say it’s never too late but I made a decision. I want a divorce. I’m fed up, I want a divorce.
Selim is taken to the prosecutor. He asks his father to do something. Peri asks Munir if it’s true he reported Selim. The worm readily admits it. Resat asks if this is revenge for not being able to take his money. Munir walks away and Resat shouts as well as he can, I’ll kill you! Peri shouts, shame on you!
The reporters swarm as everyone leaves the station. Sinem is there, too, and asks Kadir what’s happening. He thinks Selim will be arrested. Does this mean the case is coming to an end? Gotta wait till the trial.
Meryem is busy at the restaurant, cooking, answering the phone, watching the kids. The baby starts crying. Murat is covered in mud and Meryem immediately sends him to the bathroom to wash up before his mother sees this mess. He runs to the bathroom and starts to play around with the water.
Muka marches to Rose Kitchen complaining all the way. Rahmi tries to keep up with her. I can’t believe they are doing this to me! I have children. What a shame! Don’t they have consciences? Rahmi asks her if she has a conscience because if she had one, she wouldn’t have gone to the Yasarans. Muka shouts, shame on you, too! You betrayed your wife after so much time because of the gossipy people. You’ll see.
Muka enters the restaurant and shouts, where is Murat? He’s in the bathroom and he can hear his mother. Muka lights into Meryem, you should be ashamed… picking on me. Who’s picking on you, Meryem replies, get the facts straight. Muka shouts, is this the verdict after the family meeting? Customers start to stare. Mehmet closes the door. Muka continues to rant, as if throwing me out of the house wasn’t enough! Now you want to separate me from my husband and kick me out on the street!
Meryem asks her to calm down and tell her what’s happening. If that man you call your husband, left me anything to say, Muka gripes. [don’t you dare say anything about Kadir!] Watch your words, Meryem warns. Muka points to Rahmi, you filled this man with your lies so he would abandon me. Rahmi speaks up, don’t blame anyone. No one told me anything! Let’s divorce and make everyone happy, Muka says, and your sister can take a breath. [I’m happy just thinking about it]
Meryem tries to get Muka to sit. Don’t touch me, you damn witch, Muka hisses, I’m fed up with you. And all of you. I am also a human being! [barely] Are you going to divorce me?! Meryem wastes her time trying to reason with Muka [after 78 eps I don’t know why they still try] Muka says she’s taking her kids and leaving.
Rahmi gets upset, where are you taking the children?! You think I’m leaving them with you, she replies. You’re not taking them and the judge won’t let you, he tells her. Don’t be an idiot, she says, one of them is too little and besides, Murat isn’t your son and you know it! Now poor Murat knows, too. Meryem tells Muka to shut up. Rahmi shouts that Murat is his son. You won’t take him. Murat listens to his parent shout about him.
Muka drags her son out of the bathroom. Let go of my son, Rahmi orders. Back off, Muka replies, or I will call his father. I only have to make one call and Salih will come. Rahmi blocks the door and tells the stunned Murat not to listen to his mother. You are my son, he says. Meryem tells Rahmi to let her go. [I really feel for Murat.]
Rahmi doesn’t know what to do now. Meryem says he should make peace with Muka. How am I going to do that? Now she upset my son. Rahmi wants the divorce. Meryem advises not to do anything in anger.
Fatma and Kerim finally get out of bed and get dressed. Did you smile when Kerim said he was hungry? Fatma is hungry too. They leave the room. She fixes the collar of his jacket. They hold hands as they walk to a table Hasan Bey has prepared for them away from a large group of boisterous tourists. Hasan explains that they are frequent clients who come every year. And what do you know, one of them is Kristen.
Fatma and Kerim spot her and that puts a slight damper on their evening. Kristen spots Kerim and she comes rushing over. [English] What a surprise! I missed you! She gives him a kiss and Fatma rolls her eyes. How are you? Kerim says he’s fine and you? She’s great, and here for the weekend. Kristen greets Fatma with kisses.
They switch to Turkish. She asks what they are up to these days. He says they are on a short holiday. She asks, and this is the place to come on vacation, right? I couldn’t forget about this place either. Fatma shoots Kerim a look and he uncomfortably looks away. Kristen continues, I come every year for a few days.
Kristen switches back to English. What happened, she asks Kerim, you just disappeared. You didn’t answer any of my emails. She looks at Fatma and says in Turkish, he forgot about me. Fatma asks Kristen to sit with them. She asks them to come sit at their table. Kerim tells her they want to be on their own tonight. This is a special night for us. Ah, what are you celebrating, she asks? No celebration, it’s just something special, he replies. Okay, see you, enjoy your meal, Kristen says and goes back to her table.
Kerim says what a coincidence. It’s a small world, Fatma says. Kerim wishes Kristen would find another place to go. Why would we care, Fatma asks? Fatma glances at Kristen’s table and notes they are talking about Kerim. He turns and Kristen and a friend wave. Kerim waves back.
Kerim suggests going somewhere else. Fatma doesn’t want to leave. He asks if she’s okay with this. She says she is and doesn’t understand why he isn’t. He has no answer but if she’s not uneasy… She says if you think I’m jealous, I’m not. Why should I be? [yeah, she’s jealous]
Murat doesn’t want to give his parents a goodnight kiss. [Muka’s really done a number on her son] Meryem calls Rahmi to check in. He says they are not fighting. They are not talking. He won’t even look at Muka. Murat went to bed so we now we will speak, he adds, Murat is not speaking to them.
Muka complains about Rahmi giving the daily report. Rahmi wants to talk calmly. Muka snaps back and he tells her not to shout. And we see that Murat is awake and listening. Muka sings the same old tune, nothing is her fault, they are picking on her, Rahmi believes them. Rahmi tells her she can’t hide her guilt by shouting. You can’t pretend you are not guilty after all you have done until now.
What did I do, she shouts back. I sacrificed myself for years for you, but you never appreciated it. You are all ungrateful. You always stabbed us in the back, Mukaddes. You have excuses for every bad thing you’ve done. You always hide everything. Tell me, why did you go to the Yasarans, he asks? Muka refuses to answer. Rahmi surmises she can’t come up with an excuse for that.
Fatma and Kerim still don’t know what you did today, but they will soon. I’m scared, she mocks. I was there for my children, she explains, I went to beg them not to accuse me at the trial. Rahmi’s heard enough of her lies, that’s enough. He says it’s his decision to divorce. Do what you want, she replies, I don’t care. I’m taking my children and you will pay alimony. You won’t knock me down. I prefer to be alone. Murat pulls the covers over his head.
Meryem is sad at dinner. She can’t eat. She’s worried about what’s happening with Rahmi and Muka. She feels sorry for Murat. He heard his mother and understood. She asks Kadir if Rahmi asks him about divorce, don’t encourage him. Don’t worry, Kadir replies.
Omer calls Kadir. Selim has been arrested. The other Yasarans were let go.
Hilmiye gets word that Lale has sold the house.
Erdo continues to write his epic confession. He gets a new roomie, his cousin Selim. Erdo hides his paper. Selim gets a cool welcome from Erdo. Selim explains he wanted to help that night, but there was nothing he could do. So you continued your adventure, Erdo asks. What adventure, Selim replies, I stole food from cats and dumpsters. When Ayce abandoned me I wandered the streets. It made me wish I was caught [wishes do come true] Selim is sorry and Erdo admits he would have done the same. So how did you get caught? Selim says he came back to see his dad and Munir ratted him out. He said he did it to help me. Erdo laughs.
Back at Yadigar’s they decide to order in for dinner. Hilmiye notices the back door is open and sees dirty foot prints. Someone broke in? Right away Resat worries about the money. The bag is gone. Allah kahretsin, Munir!
Erdo and Selim catch up. They talk about Resat’s condition. It was a shock to see him, Selim says. Erdo imagines. He thinks Selim was stupid for returning. Erdo says see how we’ve fallen. Selim muses, September 16, 2010 changed everything. From landing on the water to get engaged to landing in prison with you.
Erdo shows Selim his tell-all. He’s using it as his last resort. I’ve become a human bomb, whoever messes with me will go to hell with me. Selim takes a look. Erdo says he’s written other details but those are in safe hands. Whoever touches me, burns.
Fatma keeps looking over at Kristen’s table. Kerim is uneasy. They eat in silence. Fatma thinks back to Kerim taking her here and explaining he was there a few times, a long time ago. And she asked, with Kristen? Now, Fatma notes it seems she likes this place a lot, she keeps coming every year. Who? Kristen? Kerim says this is a nice place, a lot of people come. Kerim puts his hand on her cheek and she puts her hand on his. This is our place, she says. Our place, he repeats with a smile. You don’t know how happy I am. Me, too, she says.
And here comes Kristen and she pulls up a chair. In English Kristen says, really, I’m so happy to see you both again. Kerim translates. Fatma says we are, too. She asks in Turkish, so how is your business? He tells her about the new workshop. She says harika! Great. I was looking for a workshop, I have new business here. Fatma’s not happy. Fatma mentions it’s chilly outside and asks Kerim if he’s cold. No, but if she is, he will get a coat for her. No, dear, thank you, and she grabs his hand. [she’s gonna mark her territory]
Kristen continues, maybe we could work together again. Kerim says his shop is small, it’s not quite complete yet. We were in a wedding rush, Fatma explains. Wedding, Kristen asks, who got married? We did, Fatma says. Kristen is confused she thought they were already married. Yes, but we couldn’t celebrate it with a wedding party. We were married the 5th of last month. Kristen offers her congrats.
How long are you staying, Kristen asks in English. Kerim answers in Turkish, until tomorrow. Fatma adds, it’s like a little honeymoon for us. Fatma feels chilly and rubs her arms. Kerim asks if she wants his jacket. No. She just moves her chair closer and says [Turkish] let’s snuggle and that will keep me warm. She grabs a hold of his arm and cuddles up. Kristen raises her eyebrows. Kerim gets what’s happening and I think he likes it.
Later as they get ready for bed, Kerim starts laughing. Why are you laughing, she asks? He says he’s not but he can’t hold it in and laughs again. She tells him to stop. I wasn’t jealous, she states. I didn’t say that, he replies. She insists she wasn’t jealous. You two were done a long time ago anyway. Fatma explains, I behaved like that so she would know you were with me.
Come here, my love, Kerim says. And she cuddles up with him. And then she admits, I was jealous, very jealous. I was jealous when I first heard about her. Because you came to Istanbul with her first. I came first with my parents, Kerim tells her. You were a kid, she says, and then you came later with her. You knew the hotel we stayed because you were there with her. You don’t forget anything, Kerim says. Kristin said that especially so I wouldn’t forget, Fatma replies, she rubbed it in my face out of jealousy. I couldn’t ask you and the doubt ate at me. And she sent us pictures on top of that.
Fatma thinks back to confronting Kerim about Kristen and telling him to tell Kristen the truth about their marriage. Fatma says she was afraid Kerim would do it. Kerim tells Fatma, the only truth I will tell is that I love you very much, Fatmagul. Kisses.
Fatma wakes up and Kerim is not next to her. She looks for him and sees him outside having a very friendly chat with Kristen. She puts on a robe and goes out. Kerim and Kristen walk away and Fatma follows. She watches them from a distance as they put their hands on each other and they are about to kiss. She calls out, Kerim! And she wakes up… it was just a dream.
Kerim is there sleeping next to her and he wakes up. Did you have a nightmare, he asks? You were kissing Kristen, she says. What? He starts laughing. She swats at him with the comforter. Don’t laugh. It was terrible, she says, you almost kissed in front of my eyes. Kerim laughs again. She goes to the bathroom to wash her face.
Rahmi and Muka wake up to find that Murat is gone. We see Murat making his way to Fatma’s house, but they are not home. Rahmi calls Meryem, she and Kadir search around the yard for Murat. He’s not there. Rahmi goes out on the streets to look.
Kerim reads the news story about Selim’s capture. Fatma rushes him to take a shower and get ready. She’s hungry. Kerim finally puts the paper down and heads to the bathroom. Fatma picks up the paper, reads the headline and puts the paper down. She looks out the window and sees Kristen outside doing stretching exercises. She grabs a sweater and goes out.
Fatma and Kristen greet each other. Kristen comments, our sleepyhead isn’t up yet? [Kristen is asking for it] Fatma answers, our sleepyhead got up a while ago, he should be here soon. We see Kerim out of the shower and picking out his clothes.
And we are out.
Hercai 2 - #57 – Parte 1 de 2
As I warned, this will lack some details. Please fill them in.
We open with Mahfuz telling Asiye, over the phone, that he’s going to settle everything, despite Zehra.
Handan is sending Yaren back to the Aslanbey konak. But she’s ordering Seyda to go along with in order to wait on her. And also to be her spy there. [So servants in Turkey have no choice about where they work?]
Esma can’t stop crying. Gonul tries to comfort her. Azat calls Gonul saying he has to see her.
Ayse comes back to their house. [I’m mostly calling her Ayse now; I like the way Nasuh says it.] She and Esma commiserate that they’ve both lost their sons. Ayse reminds Esma that she’s lost many sons. But Esma should realize that where there’s life, there’s hope.
Azat accuses Gonul of being like her grandmother, playing games. She doesn’t get a chance to tell him about Yaren’s awful behavior.
At the Love Shack Reyyan has the pomegranate dream again.
Ayse shows up at the Aslanbey konak looking like an avenging angel. Mahmoud holds a gun on the guards. She barges into Fusun’s room, looking plenty scary. She grabs Fusun and tells her she knows what she did to Reyyan, but it didn’t work. Fusun sneers and tells Ayse that she knows all about her vengeance on Nasuh. Ayse slams her against a wall, choking her. She says she knows how the people of her class are. “If you have Dilsah, why are you here?” Choking her some more, she says: “You lost her, right?. You poisoned a pregnant girl so as to do away with me. But Reyyan survived, and you lost Dilsah. I’ll finish you off, hyena!” [Don’t know about the rest of the patio, but I’m applauding.] Fusun: “Then you don’t have her either.”
Cut to Harun, who’s dropped off Dilsah. [They’re definitely making us wait to see her.’ Turns out he’s working with Ayse. But he won’t give Dilsah to either one of them.
Firat and Zeynep arrive at the Love Shack. Firat has brought a mirror he says will make Reyyan look thinner. The four of them decide to play charades.
Hazar and Sukran talk. Sukran: “If only Miran’s mother were alive.” Hazar agrees and Zehra overhears. But she doesn’t hear him say he wants her to be alive for Miran’s sake.
Zehra doesn’t let Hazar see a text from Mahfuz asking to meet him. She’s up to her old tricks, gumming up the works and slowing down the plot.
The charades game was very cute, won by Zeynep and Firat.
Evil Fusun meets Cihan and gives him the letter that Harun found in Hanife’s room. Dripping some poison in his ear, she sends him to the farm.
Hercai 2 - #57 – Parte 1 de 2
Nasuh is at the farm meeting Ayse. A truly lovely song plays while they look at each other. He takes off the glove and holds her burned hand. We see a flashback of his taking her hand when she told him she was pregnant with Hazar.
Hazar comes to the shack bringing food that Zehra prepared. They insist he join them.
Ayse tells Nasuh she’s sure Fusun sent the guy who picked up Reyyan on the highway. Fusun wants Miran to kill her. She made sure Ayse went to Reyyan to fall into the trap. Nasuh agrees to go get Reyyan so she can hear what happened. Ayse is to wait. Nasuh wants to also bring Hazar and tell him the truth. But she’s not ready. After he leaves we see someone put an ether rag over her face.
Reyyan tells the happy group that she has dessert, sent by her father. Hazar keeps insisting it wasn’t him. They figure out that it was the dessert that made her ill. Reyyan talks about looking for some roots and that Azize was there… Miran goes nuts. He runs out saying “She killed my baby!”
Inside Reyyan keeps telling Zeynep that her baby is healthy. But she sees something in Zeynep’s face and insists on knowing what it is. Zeynep says “we lost one”. After sinking to the floor sobbing, apparently the shock has restored Reyyan’s memories. She remembers Ayse helping her and trying to keep her baby alive.
Nasuh drives up and Reyyan tells him about Miran going after Ayse.
We are back in that village with the big hole in the ground. Ayse is in the same hole where her grandson was. We find out it was Cihan who put her there.
I don’t have time for Cihan’s long soliloquy. He tells his henchman about Azize being his brother’s mother, Nasuh’s great love. His own mother kept quiet. Often Nasuh shouted at her. He says he’s going to kill her. His henchman punches him and grabs the gun. He reminds him he’ll be in prison and Miran will get everything.
Esma is planning suicide, I’m pretty sure. She writes a letter to Firat. Hazar and a foaming-at-the-mouth Miran arrive. Esma tells them she went to the farm.
Reyyan and Nasuh come to the farm and don’t find Ayse. They do find her hijab.
Zehra meets Mahfuz in Hazar’s place. He tells her that Dilsah is alive. Zehra tells him that he owes it to her to keep quiet.
Reyyan is falling apart and telling Firat that Miran will be a killer, when Miran himself walks up.
Before Reyyan gets a chance to tell Miran about Ayse helping her, some “cops” pull up. They handcuff Miran and take him away, saying there’s an accusation of murder. They play a little trick on us when we suddenly see Mahmoud. But the robot helps Miran get away.
Reyyan tells Hazar, Firat and Nasuh that Ayse saved her baby.
Miran knocks one of the “cops” out. He gets the phone and calls the last caller. We don’t see if he recognizes Cihan’s voice.
Wow....when it is so good that it makes you cry. Yay . Victory.
Time to listen to Al Green sing " Love and Happiness "
Thanks, Dondi, What a life affirming episode. We are nearing the finishline , and you deserve a gold medal for Olympian recapping.
Fine recap novelera! You don’t know how much I appreciate “ just the facts” especially with these 2 hr episodes! I am looking forward to this going back to 1 hr next week! Personally, I really only focus on those things that get my attention, lol, and that’s why I also appreciate the comments from my fellow foristas. Sharp eyes this group!
Reyyan definitely got my attention last night! I anticipated that she would have a meltdown after learning about their other baby, but boy did she go into emotional overboard! She did not give a thought to how her actions would effect the baby she is carrying! She was running around like a psycho screaming, yelling, crying and insisting on getting to Miran at all costs! I REALLY wanted to slap a pregnant woman! That baby is going to go straight from the womb to the therapist’s couch if she keeps up! I was so disappointed in her especially after I enjoyed the evening of couples charades. It was such a nice change from the constant drama! Not for long though…….
Speaking of pyscho’s, how about Cihan?! Just what the hell is his mission, running around like he’s part of some elite military unit involved in a coup!?! Guess that’s the only way he’s gonna be the general of something, lol. I muted his rant novelera, lol, cause I just can’t muster any sympathy for an Ass of a man with Daddy don’t love me issues! Any sane, rational person would simply take his family and move out, but I guess that’s not an option and is a cultural thing…….
I feel bad for Esma, but why don’t these people give folks time to process life changing news?!?! They want them to just accept things on the spot and not give them a minute to simply breathe! You see poor Firat taking a breath every chance he gets! Just give him a moment! I’m glad he has Zeynep. She’s a breath of fresh air in this madness!
You know, I was wondering where Mahmoud was when Cihan was throwing Azize down the well?!?! He’s ALWAYS close by and ready to shoot and kill! I also don’t like this “vulnerable” Azize who was ALWAYS one step ahead of everybody! She’s definitely morphing back into Ayse ( I love the way Nasuh pronounces it too—-Aysha). But how about her and Nasuh!?! Those two had me blushing, lol! True Love, no matter what age you are is a beautiful thing! I guess being in love, in and of itself, makes you vulnerable. Look at Reymir, and the blossoming feelings between Azat, Gonul, Firat and Zeynep. I think we’re in for many more roller coaster moments especially when a true Sadoglu and true Aslanbey fall in love.
I’m not feeling Fusun. As a villain she just doesn’t emote well to me. It’s always just a bunch of lip and that ever present gassy look on her face. Glad Azize gave her a little beat down, lol. She shoulda punched her in the gut—— and released some of that pressure!
Thanks novelera!!! Much appreciated!
Thank you Dondi! Like Susanlynn said you deserve a gold medal for doing this!
This was a mostly fun episode! I love Rhami finding his voice and even though I sort of hate the idea of divorce because Muka will only make him even more miserable in a divorce and what she did to Murat in this episode would be the tip of the iceberg to what she would do!
Muka did seems contrite for like half a minute when Rhami first says he wants a divorce but of course she is back to her horrible self by the time she reached the restaurant. How she can blame Meryem, Kadir and Fatma with a straight face is baffling!
Selim is caught! Turned in by Munir that rat is certainly abandoning ship! I totally missed that he stole Resat's money, probably because I naturally ignore the Yeserans whenever they are on screen.
Selim seemed more amused than scared that Erdo was writing a confession bomb that would burn everyone who touched him! Lol
Fatma and Kerim happy - until Kristen showed up - was nice to see! Looks like they are now enjoying all of their marriage! I really don't get why Fatma would be so jealous of someone Kerim never even took seriously, it's not like she was his first love or a serious girlfriend. She was just a girl he never committed to. But it seems like these shows all think jealousy is cute. Her dream was funny!
Well I checked the tv schedule for next week and Fatmagul isn't on it so I am guessing today is the last episode! So sad to let go of this wonderful show but then I guess I only have to be sad til Monday when Pasión de Gavilanes 2 starts!! I can't wait!!! I am so curious to see what they do with that, my only hesitation is Michel Brown only had a special participation role... which makes me nervous for what they might have done with his character - my favorite character from the original! Oh well we will find out on Monday!
I wonder how a psychiatrist would analyze Muk . Is she a narcissist ? Bipolar ? Or just a negative, nasty person ?
Her constant oneliner as she projects the blame on anyone and everyone : " No...you are !!!"
Rational Rahmi perfectly described everything irrational Muk says and everything she has done. He described in a nutshell her persona as we have watched it play out in this novela. " A tiger doesn't change its stripes." I worry about her influence on those kids. We have already seen what she has done to Murat. Sad. When kids have someone in their lives like Muk , it takes loving caring , stable relatives to neutralize the toxicity.
Okay, time for WORDL.
Thank you, dondi356.
Thanks for the song link. I am glad to be able to sample different songs.
Song: Sen Benim Şarkılarımsın/You Are My Songs - would be perfect with guitar accompaniment by the campfire at night. I was thinking, will Fatmagul join Kerim singing along?
Rahmi couldn't be more right about Mukaddes.
"Did you smile when Kerim said he was hungry? Fatma is hungry too." - Happy hungry. They must have only had breakfast before going and now it is getting dark.
I fell behind again. Catching up thanks to the marvelous recapping skills of Juanita, Nett and novelera. I am forever grateful.
I’m getting to the “I can’t wait for this to end” stage. And two hours was too much. I’ve got limited time and I’m enjoying reruns of Fatmagul much more. Even though I’ve seen that a few times, I’ll be sorry when it ends. ReyMir take note, you don’t hold a candle to Fatma and Kerim. I just can’t take Angry Bangs. And he went off like a rocket again last night.
Really ticked that Ayse/Azize is instantly redeemed through Fusun. Sticking her in a hole isn’t enough for me. Although they could still kill her off in the final eps.
Zehra hasn’t learned anything. She’s up to her old tricks going behind Hazar’s back. I can’t stand her. Maybe it’s the actress.
Lol’d at Cihan’s henchie punching him. Yaren inherited the jealous gene from her dad.
I am looking forward to the big Dilsah reveal. Gotta have at least one thing to hold my interest.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and your insightful comments. I haven’t had time to do much more than post recaps.
As I mentioned in my Hercai post, I’ll be sorry to see this end even though I’ve seen it before. Friday is the end— we are at Turkish ep 80. The past several episodes have been shown with no cuts, just slight edits in and out of scenes. I was pleased with that.
Fatma and Kerim are now a real, normal married couple! She’s definitely going to be the “boss” in this marriage.
Fatma had her turn to be jealous. Darcy, we know jealousy is a must have trope in the dizi/TN world. I thought Fatma’s jealousy was “cuter” than Kerim’s. His was dangerous.
Love the new Rahmi. He was so on target. And Susanlynn, I think the kids will be ok because he will neutralize Muka’s ish.
What can I say about Mukaddes? We’ve exhausted all the words to describe how vile she is. She’s number one on my hate list. She’s ahead of Munir, Resat (those two are close on her heels) and the rotten rapist ricos. Up until this point, she has never had a moment of self-reflection and/or self-awareness and is not worthy of redemption. I wish she had gone to therapy.
Lucio, they did slightly edit of the scene with the song, Kerim was singing along to the radio.
Will try to have a Thursday recap up late tonight and the final over the weekend.
Novelera,, thank you for a great recap of an episode that had a little bit of everything...charades, police, threats, romance, guns, yelling , crying, more guns , More threats , Azz in The well .
Fusan ..yikes.... that mean little face is not softened by those big earrings . Cane = weapon. I don't think Azz ever shot one of her henchies .
Cihan is a huge crybaby.
They are really teasing us with Dilsah. Where is she? Did Harun find her?
The scene of Nasuh and Ayse where they saw each other as their young selves really got me . Soulmates always see eAch other as young and vibrant as they were when they first fell in !ove. The accompanying music was beautiful.
Loved the highlight reel of a recap, novelera! It is impressive how you are able to capture so much in those descriptive bullet points.
The highlights for me were the game night charades and the fact that Firat went to a carnival to find the skinny mirror for Reyyan and the new beautiful music played during the Ayse/Nasuh reencounter and game night.
I was also cheering when Azize/Ayse was throttling Fusun! Not that Azize deserves much better but I cannot get over how Fusun tried to kill Reyyan and the baby.
To much togetherness in the Love Shack has given Reyyan bad habits. Both she and Miran were ridiculous in their behavior.
I knew Cihan was getting darker and darker. He says it is all for the family but his ego is definitely in the way.
Ugh, stupid Zehra is going to make me “go crazy” (to quote Miran and Hazar).
One more 2-hour marathon for dondi356 tonight, then all of us will have some time to actually digest the episodes as well as recap them!
Thanks again novelera!
https://www.diariolaprovinciasj.com/espectaculos/2021/10/24/hercai-la-increible-transformacion-de-ayda-aksel-la-actriz-que-interpreta-azize-aslanbey-161993.html
Hope this article in Spanish works for you. I have been VERY impressed with Ayda Aksel, especially since she's discovered Hazar is her son and is trying to right all her wrongs.
She is a seasoned theater actor in Istanbul, and the photos accompanying the article show how much she changed herself to play the vengeful Azize. Of course, it's not all makeup. Skillful actors can do such a fabulous job with a role that they seem to actually change into a different person.
MANY thanks, novelera, for this excellent recap. Like carmella, I very much appreciate your "just the facts" approach, especially with these [expletive deleted] 2-hour episodes. I think you've covered everything very well. You seem to say rather apologetically, "I don’t have time for Cihan’s long soliloquy." Nonsense! You go on to provide all that's needed.
I enjoyed your parenthetical "[Don’t know about the rest of the patio, but I’m applauding.]" when Azize attacks Fusun. I certainly was applauding, and I was probably adding "Choke her harder!" Fusun seems to me simultaneously more deadly and less interesting than Azize. I'm not sure how much of that is how the roles are written and how much is what the actors are able to do with the roles.
You say that after the "cops" arrest and handcuff Miran, "They play a little trick on us when we suddenly see Mahmoud." I'm not convinced that it was a deliberate "little trick." My sense is that it was just an inept editing job.
Zehra becomes less and less likeable with each passing episode. I continue to suspect that the writers are deliberately presenting her that way to make room for Dilsah. But how will they make room? Will Zehra have a fatal accident? Will she find happiness with Mahmouz (though why should he want her?)? I'm really quite conflicted about all this. I'm not a fan of Zehra, but I really object to bringing Dilsah back after being held prisoner for 30 years. It seems simultaneously too unrealistic and excessively sentimental and schmaltzy, even for a soap opera.
In her comment, dondi356 admitted, "I’m getting to the “I can’t wait for this to end” stage." Alas, I'm afraid I'm already there. Perhaps I'll feel a bit calmer once we go back to 1-hour episodes, but still, ¡Ya basta!

How’s the marriage going, Kristen asks. Fatma says, very good. Kristen notes that they seem much different this time. Different how, Fatma asks? Closer, Kristen answers. We’ve always been close, Fatma says. [Close enough to kill him with his pocket knife? Close to getting a divorce?] Kristen says that Fatma seems different, too, more confident. Fatma agrees with that assessment.
Kristen continues, I read the newspapers and watched you on TV. And then I saw what you two went through. Fatma asks, did you come here knowing that we would be here? What? Fatma repeats the question. Kristen says she doesn’t understand what Fatma is asking. Language barrier or something else? Kerim sees Fatma and Kristen talking.
How would I have known, Kristen asks in English, I don’t understand why you are asking me this. Fatma says this isn’t the first time Kristen has tried to interfere in their relationship. Kerim heads outside. Fatma calls Kristen out on sending photos to upset her, then calling Kerim at midnight to come to her hotel. Even at the dinner, you were near him as if you were trying to tell me something.
Kristen looks upset and wonders why Fatma is talking to her like this. Fatma does not let up. Now you say you didn’t know our story, you read it in the paper. Are you trying to provoke me? Is that what you want?
Kerim approaches the women. Fatmagul? Kristen asks him to come over. English: Fatma’s trying to tell me something I don’t understand. Kerim translates for Fatma. Fatma knows better and says Kristen understands when she wants to. Kerim asks, what’s the problem? And Kristen asks the same, which Fatma takes as proof Kristen is playing a game with her. Fatma tells Kerim that Kristen understands you but doesn’t understand when I ask her if she came knowing we were here.
Did you ask her that, Kerim replies? Yes, this doesn’t look like an innocent coincidence. Kerim tells Fatma not to say this. Kristen tells Kerim in English, we were just talking and all of a sudden she got angry, but I don’t understand why.
Fatma turns to her husband, Kerim please tell her to speak with you in a language I can understand when I’m here. Other people in Kristen’s group show up. A guy, Nedim, asks what is going on. Kristen calls him over. She puts her arm around him and introduces him to Fatma and Kerim, Nedim is my fiancé. The other fellow is a friend from London. Kristen explains these two came after you left last night. Nedim says they love coming here and come often with friends. Awkward. Fatma wishes she could hide.
Fatma’s got her head in her hand as they make the drive home. Kerim gives a chuckle and says take that hand away, it’s not that bad. Fatma is mighty embarrassed, she can’t believe what she did. Jealousy is normal, he tells her. [take it from an expert] She wants to drop the subject. Kerim says, they say that one who loves, gets jealous. Don’t make fun, she replies, I am so ashamed.
Kerim says she had a point. He doesn’t believe this was just a coincidence. This meeting was destiny. We both learned something from it, he says, it was for the best. Yeah, you learned about my jealous side, she says.
Kerim pulls over and tells her she made him happy today. She thinks she embarrassed him. No. I saw it in your eyes that you accepted me. Okay, maybe it was a silly situation, but it was meaningful for me. He adds, considering what Kristen did before, no one could blame you for your thoughts. You’re saying this to make me feel better, she replies. No, he says, I’m saying what is on my mind. I always want you to love me. I will, she answers. He moves in for a kiss and they are nearly sideswiped by a big truck coming around the curve. Close call. God saved us, she says.
Rahmi and Meryem are at the police station, reporting Murat’s disappearance. The police think they will find him soon and all will be well.
Muka cries at home. She texts Salih: Murat ran away from home. I’m contacting you to ask if he came to you. Salih calls back immediately. What’s going on? Muka cries to him, Murat ran away, he found out Rahmi wasn’t his father, and that you are. [she left out how he found out.] Salih is suspicious and questions if she’s up to something again. [rightfully so] She swears she’s telling the truth.
He lets her have it for calling him. She tells him he is heartless. You are my only hope, but you don’t care. Salih tells her not to worry, Murat will probably return soon, he’s a kid. Search in parks and such. Salih does ask that when Murat is found to give him a call.
Rahmi and Meryem search the streets for Murat with no luck. Rahmi flashes back to when Fatma ran away.
On the trip home, Fatma decides to say yes to Sinem. She calls her right away before she loses her nerve.
Selim asks Erdo, how many years do you think we will get? He doesn’t know but if we had accepted our crime back then, we would have had a year and a half completed already. And we wouldn’t have lost everything, Selim replies, even all our assets abroad. Erdo says, good, it feels much lighter. Selim smiles.
Erdo takes count, Vural got murdered, Leman a suicide, Semsi died in a car accident. My God, Erdo smiles in disbelief, it’s incredible. Selim says, my father can’t talk and Erdo adds that his father died. A sort of morbid laughter starts. Erdo says, you know about Mustafa? They burst out laughing now. Not to mention Turaner, Erdo says. The curse of Fatmagul. [we might be able to add Musto’s parents, too. Their deaths were likely hastened by the stress of the situation.]
Erdo says, btw, your ex has a new lover. He’s an oilman who’s one of the 100 richest men in the world. Laughter stops. They are getting married. Erdo says he read it in the paper. They were on the front page, we’ve been pushed back to third.
Fatma and Kerim arrive at Rose Kitchen. Cops are there. They find out that Murat ran away.
We jump ahead 4 months in the story.
Fatma is talking to Sinem at home. How did they find him (Murat)? Fatma says he was here, hiding in the dog house. We get the flashback. Murat doesn’t want to go home. His parents are always fighting. Rahmi promises they won’t fight anymore. End flash. Fatma tells Sinem that they took Murat to a therapist, and he eventually understood. Sinem asks if Fatma made peace with Muka. Fatma quickly answers, no. I’ve never forgiven her. But at least she and my brother are good again.
Kerim comes outside with a plate of watermelon. Fatma tucks into it right away. Kerim places his hand on Fatma’s tummy, a small baby bump! He says, our girl craves watermelon these days. Sinem asks if they have a name. Fatma replies, Enise, Kerim’s mother’s name. He gives Fatma a little kiss. That is the end of Turkish ep 78.
Sinem asks Fatma how she’s been feeling. She says she felt a little sick at the beginning and she didn’t even realize she was pregnant at first. It’s an interesting story about finding out, at least it was for me. it began on June 8.
Now we go back 4 months.
Fatma wakes up Kerim by teasing him with a strand of her hair. He jumps on top of her and launches a tickle attack, which eventually turns into a different kind of morning fun. [this shows how far they have come]
Things seem more peaceful in the Ketenci household. That is until Nafiye rings the bell asking Rahmi’s help with a leak in her bathroom. Muka’s not happy and lets Nafiye know this in no uncertain terms. She practically shuts the door in the landlady’s face and starts in with Rahmi. That woman is drooling over you, she tells him. Rahmi’s eyes widen, shame on you Mukaddes. How can you say this about your neighbor? You come up with something like this because you have a wicked mind. Rahmi wins this battle, he leaves.
Kadir talks to Meryem about a very sad case he has. A 6 year old boy whose father killed his mother. He remembers when the woman first came to him, she was bruised and battered. She said,“You have to save me from that man”. The husband refused to divorce her. We were getting an order of protection, but before it could happen, he shot and killed her.
Kadir says you should have seen that kid in court. So afraid and confused he was.
Meryem asks if the boy has relatives. No, Kadir replies, he’s in the care of Social Services. Can we adopt him, Meryem asks? Kadir was thinking the same thing. The timing is great they think. There’s too much silence in the house now. Meryem is very excited talking about it.
Fatma blow dries Kerim’s hair. He looks in the mirror and says it’s getting long, I’m going to cut it. [noooo!] Don’t you dare, she tells him, I like it like this. [millions of women agree] Kerim gives her a kiss and says he has to hurry or he will be late. No time for breakfast. She asks, you won’t be late, right? He’s not sure how long it will take. He will call when he’s finished. She says fine but it’s clearly not. What’s wrong, he asks? Nothing. He makes Fatma tell.
What date is this she asks? He looks at his watch…the eighth… so? June 8 is my birthday she says with some disappointment. Oh, no, Kerim forgot. She says it’s ok, he says it’s not and he’s sorry. He gives her a hug and wishes her a happy year. He says he’s ashamed. I forgot your birthday and we won’t be able to celebrate it today. We can celebrate it tomorrow, she tells him. No… he has a job tomorrow, too. Another time then, she replies. Kerim asks for forgiveness and says he will make it up to her. She shoos him off saying he will be late. Once he leaves we see her disappointment again.
There’s a little PSA about using organic products and staying away from GMOs.
Meryem mentions she wants to finish work early today. She needs to go to the hairdresser. Why, Fatma asks, do you have something special? Yes, Meryem says, Omer invited us over, there’s a Euro Cup game and we will watch together. His fiancée will make dinner. Rahmi says he can’t watch that game, he’s got a tenants meeting at home. No one mentions her birthday.
Later, Fatma sets a nice table and has lots of food prepared. She’s even made her own cake! She calls Kerim. It looks like he won’t finish the job before midnight. There are a lot of things to fix. He’s very sorry. No problem, she tells him, I didn’t prepare anything special. Don’t worry. End call. More birthday disappointment for Fatma. She puts all the food away and clears the dining room table. At least Lodos is there to celebrate with her.
Rahmi calls. He tells her he’s feeling sad. He had a big fight with Muka. He’s down by the docks. Will you come and sit with me, he asks? Fatma asks him to come to her. No, he doesn’t want to talk around Kerim. It’s not fair to him to hear my problems. I don’t want to bother him. Kerim’s not home Fatma says, besides I have a delicious dinner. Come and we can eat together. Rahmi says he isn’t even hungry. He’s too upset. He guilts her into coming. Fatma calls Kerim to let him know what’s going on.
Sukru sees Fatma leaving and comments to Esma, look, she’s going out at this hour of the day. What kind of woman goes out this time of day on her own? The husband is in one place and she’s in another. May God give them peace.
Fatma meets Rahmi by the docks. He tells his sister it’s the same old thing… Muka complains, she curses, the same as always Mukaddes. I’m tired, Fatmagul. It’s not working. Fatma thinks he means divorce. You have kids, she says. No, he clarifies, I’m saying it doesn’t work here. He tells Fatmagul, you are my blood, my soul, my everything. After my children, you are the most valuable. Fatma says he is the same for her.
I don’t want to separate from you, he says, I always want to be by your side. But I’ve been talking with Mukaddes. It’s time to go back to Ildir. [Some birthday Fatma’s having.] What are you saying, she asks? We couldn’t get used to this. I’m not talking about money, but we both feel out of place here. Muka is cooped up in the house, she nags me all the time, saying she wants to go. I’m not going only because of you.
When we were in Ildir, we were something and here we are nothing, he tells her. We will go and start our business again. It’s what we know. It’s better for the children. Murat can play on the street, in the gardens and meadows. Elif will grow up better, too. Fatma is bummed that Rahmi has already made his decision. We will reopen the dairy, he says, we have the money to do it. It’s not the Yasaran money. I’ve never fed my children with food bought with that money. Don’t worry. We should go back, it’s what’s best for us.
Fatma offers to make peace with Muka if that’s what this is about. It’s not, Rahmi says. He also asked Kadir and Meryem for advice. I told them I would open an organic dairy farm and they like that idea. I’m the last one to know, Fatma says, wiping a tear. Only because it was the most difficult to tell you, he replies, the most difficult part is leaving you. You’ll come to visit, she asks. Yes, I can’t live without seeing you.
Rahmi continues, I won’t worry about leaving you here, you are in good hands. You are happy here. Happy with your husband, your work, your home. You have a husband like Kerim. And there’s Meryem and Kadir. If people like them weren’t your family, I wouldn’t go. Don’t cry, Rahmi tells her.
A boat horn sounds. Rahmi says, I didn’t want to upset you on your birthday, but I said this is a perfect time. Did you remember my birthday, she asks? Of course. The boat horn sounds again. Rahmi picks up, I knew you’d cry so I wanted to save that to make you smile. Fatma gives a little laugh and the boat horn sounds again. What’s going on, she exclaims.
We see family and friends on the boat. Emre and Mehmet unfurl a sign: iyi ki doğun, Fatmagül (glad you were born, a way of saying happy birthday). What a surprise! She laughs with delight. Fatma and Rahmi head to the boat. Kerim comes ashore to give her a hug and help her onboard. She greets the guests. They really had her fooled. She thought they all forgot her birthday. They set sail.
Fatma opens her gifts. She says Murat gave the best gift of all, he drew a picture of him and his aunt. Meryem’s gift is a nice dress and Fatma heads off to change into it right away. Kerim heads down and waits for Fatma to come out of the bathroom. He gives her his gift. A necklace with little gold rose and a diamond chip. Be happy always, Fatmagul. They hug. A kiss.
Music starts and Fatma and Kerim head back up. Mehmet and Emre say they both received letters from Deniz. Dinner, music and dancing. Fatma and Kerim stand at the bow and look towards the shore. Kerim says the lights shine, the city hypnotizes… like you.
Fatma is deep in thought. Where were you, he asks? I went back a year, she replies. I cried when you gave me that wedding dress as a present last year. Don’t be sad, he says. No, no, that doesn’t make me sad, Fatma tells him, I felt bad when I saw it in front of my eyes, because I couldn't imagine myself wearing that dress. I wanted it, I wanted it so much. But I never thought we would have a wedding so soon.
You are very strong, he tells her. I am proud of you. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have you by my side, she tells him, we did it together. That’s why we are like this. A camera flash goes off. It’s Emre. He takes a few pics. All of a sudden, Fatma feels queasy. She heads for the bathroom.
Look at Meryem and Kadir rockin’ out. Omer and his fiancée join them on the dance floor.
Rahmi gets a call from Muka. She’s bored. She wants Rahmi to come home. He can’t they are in the middle of the sea. Well then, at least she wants some details. Rahmi makes the excuse Murat needs to use the bathroom, he has to hang up. What did Kerim get her, she asks? Rahmi’s gotta go or the kid will pee his pants. He hangs up. lol Murat asks when they will have the cake.
Meanwhile, Fatma is puking in the bathroom. Kerim goes to check on her. He asks if she threw up. She lies.
Cake is brought out. Fatma makes her wish and blows out the candles.
We go ahead four months again.
Sinem asks, what did you wish? I wished that this happiness wouldn’t end. I wished we would win the court case. After that, I wished that Kerim would never leave my side.
Esma and her mom come over, they brought dessert. They sit to have tea. Esma goes off to help Fatma in the kitchen. We learn that Kerim has been playing backgammon with Esma’s father.
When they are alone in the kitchen, Esma spills that Emre asked her to marry him. What? [that’s what I said] His family came to ask for her hand. Fatma offers congrats and a hug. Esma says she owes her happiness to Fatma. Kerim comes into the kitchen, and they share the news. Kerim is surprised, Emre said nothing.
Sinem wants to pick up where they left off in Fatma’s story, at the birthday party. The cake is served. Mehmet starts the music again. He tells Fatma that Kerim picked this song special for her. I’m sorry, I couldn’t find the title of the song.
Fatma and Kerim make their way back to the house and Fatma begins to feel sick again. She runs to the bathroom to puke.
Murat and Rahmi talk about the party and Muka is green with envy. Muka mentions the move to Ildir and Murat shouts for joy. Muka gets the kid all excited about moving back, but Rahmi tries to put the brakes on. Water is leaking through their bathroom ceiling and the door bell rings. It’s Nafiye. Muka shouts at her and slams the door in her face. She starts shouting at Rahmi.
Kerim is worried about Fatma. She thinks it’s something she ate. He wants to take her to the hospital but she doesn’t want to go. He calls Meryem. Do you want me to come, she asks? No, but tell me what I should do. Mint and lemon, she says, and thyme. She adds if Fatma keeps vomiting he should take her to a doctor. End call.
Meryem is worried about Fatma and she wants to go over. Kadir wants to go with her. They wonder what’s wrong and Kadir thinks, what if she is pregnant? The worry suddenly becomes joy at this thought.
Kerim brings Fatma tea in bed. She’s feeling a little bit better. Meryem calls. She asks, did you get your period this month? Fatma thinks and says she missed it. I didn’t have my period in May. Meryem happily tells her you’re pregnant. I am, really? Kerim immediately gets excited and gives her a hug. Then she pushes him away saying not to get excited yet, we don’t know yet. He’s certain she is pregnant. [did Kerim hit the bullseye on the not so great wedding night?]
Meryem and Kadir are thrilled they will be grandparents. Their plans to adopt fell through because relatives were found for the boy.
Kerim can’t take his hand off Fatma’s tummy. She’s going to take a pregnancy test first thing. She’s feeling better now. Kerim jokes that the baby wanted to keep them awake until it fell asleep. She adds, and it’s my birthday, too. It’s still your birthday, he says. If you are pregnant, it will be the most wonderful gift. We are going to have a baby now, she thinks. Yes, Kerim says, I want this so much.
And we are out on a high note. On to the final episode.
Thank you Dondi! I can't believe we are at the end! I am going to miss this show so much! It was so well done and beautiful!
Speaking of beautiful, Kristen's new fiance? Nedim?? HAWT!!! Why did they hide this guy until the last episode? Of course we have no idea what he is actually like as a person but assuming he's the nice guy he seemed, I'd say we finally have a girl on this show who knows how to pick men! First Kerim and now this hottie? Fatma doesn't count, because she picked Mustafa and didn't pick Kerim.
Selim and Erdo seem resigned to their fate, it's ironic and oh so well done that they are shown thinking about all the damage that could have been avoided if they had just accepted responsibility to begin with.
Rhami looking for Murat reminded me of that morning with Fatma on the end of Wed's episode so I found it interesting and scary when the writers were apparently feeling the same and showed the flash back on this episode - thankfully Murat was okay. Later when Fatma was walking alone to the boat and that creepy Suku was glaring at her I felt flash backs to Fatma walking out to see Mustafa that night. Again, luckily nothing happened but I am surprised Rhami and Kerim set her up to make that walk alone - I know that wanted to surprise her but they are usually much more protective than that.
Kerim's hair - yes I like it long, but I watched the first episode of Sefirin Kizi last night because this show is so well written I am curious to watch another Turkish Dizi, and it might as well be one with Engin! I gotta say the very short-cut, almost shaved look with a beard? That works too! Works really well actually....hmm
What kind of woman goes out in the middle of the afternoon alone, indeed? Smh. Not sure that guy deserved rescuing but it's nice that they found happiness and community with their neighbors. Fatma will need it without Rhami, but as sad as that was she will be better off really and truly removed from Muka. Rhami kept looking at the boat during his talk with Fatma it would have been a give away if she hadn't been so distraught with the subject of the conversation.
'When they are alone in the kitchen, Esma spills that Emre asked her to marry him. What? [that’s what I said] ' Me too!!! That was fast!
Meryem and Kadir would have been the perfect adoptive parents! Maybe that possibility will still live and another little boy or girl in need of a home will be lucky enough to end up with those two as parents! Kerim and Fatma learning she is pregnant was so cute! The look on Kerim's face?? So much happiness. Finally!!
Dear Dondi, well, we are almost at the end , and I am so grateful for all the recaps you provided. They made everything crystal clear for me. I don't want this ride to end.
"I'm glad you were born " is such a lovely sentiment .
Fatmagul and Kerim certainly were brave as they slowly made their heroes' journeys . I guess the lesson is that you have to pick up the pieces when something shatters you and keep going . We all have to do that at some point in time . Resilience.
Darcy , I saw Engin first in "La Hija" and didn't like his look. I like long hair on guys , and Engin's thick, dark hair is amazing . He will eventually be a silver fox However, dondi was recapping and encouraged me to keep watching . I also didn't like seeing that little girl in such a sad, scary situation .
Steve ..Pasion 2. ?????
Susanlynn, Steve is referring to Pasión de Gavilanes 2, it starts Monday! Pasión de Gavilanes is the first novela I ever watched almost 20 years ago and I loved it!!! There my love for novelas began. If I am completely honest I am scared they are going to ruin it with season 2 eighteen years later, but I am still going to watch. This will be must-see TV for me!
Michel Brown and Natasha Klauss were fantastic in the original. Danna García is beautiful and charming and Paola Rey was exquisite and very fun. As someone said awhile back Mario Cimarro was wooden and flat but 18 years is a long time and he's had plenty of opportunities to polish his acting. The only other thing he's done that I watched was Los Herederos del Monte and he was just as wooden in that but again had a likeable supporting cast around him which made up for it.
I would watch Michel Brown watch paint dry.... for hours, lol. But my understanding is he only had a small participation in season 2 because of scheduling conflicts.
I hope it's okay to talk about the small participation...that isn't considered a spoiler is it? If so, I apologize.
Did you find Miran? No, but Miran has found out that Cihan is behind this. He throws the phone. Who was that, Mahmut anxiously asks. Miran doesn’t answer and motions let’s go. At the other end, Cihan wonders what’s going on. He calls back and the phone is off. Cihan reasons if Miran escaped he will go for Reyyan. Halef asks what now? How will you make it look like Miran killed Azize? Cihan needs to find out what’s happening first before he decides what’s next. Keep me informed, he tells Halef, and he leaves.
Zehra demands that Mahfuz hand Dilsah over to her. Are you crazy, he replies. [that’s what I said] What will you do, kill her? Will you lock her up like Azize?! Zehra cries out, I don’t know! But if Dilsah appears, do you know what will happen? I have two small daughters. They need their father. if that woman turns up… no… you must hand over Dilsah or you will ruin my life!
Mahfuz gives her a great response: if Dilsah’s return ruins your marriage, then there was no marriage to begin with. Zehra delivers a bofetada and tries to burn a hole through him with her patented stupid stare. Mahfuz is saved by a call from Hazar. We have to meet. Mahfuz tells Hazar to come to his hotel room and he starts walking. Zehra grabs him and once again asks him to hand Dilsah over. And if you are thinking of telling… Mahfuz interrupts, I’m not thinking, I swear I will do it. Everyone deserves to be with their children, including me. Mahfuz pulls away and leaves.
Nasuh and Melike help Reyyan to her room. Melike goes to get soup. When everyone leaves, Rey sneaks out and climbs up and over the rail onto the konak next door. She tells The Lentil, we will find your father.
Mahmut is begging Miran to tell him who was on the phone. My lady must be in the hands of whoever planned this. Could she be, Miran asks? Yes, Mahmut answers, I have to know so I can save her. Miran replies, if you want to know, answer this first: How did you find me? Mahmut says, I was following you.
Flashback. Azize tells Mahmut that ReyMir are in danger. Fusun won’t sit idle. Have someone follow Miran. I want to know everything he does. If anything happens to me, she tells him, or if you can’t get a hold of me, I beg you to protect Miran. And not just him, Reyyan and Hazar, too. Die for them if necessary. They must live, that’s all I ask. [that’s all??] As you order, the ever faithful Mahmut replies. End flash.
Is that what she told you, Miran asks? To save Hazar Sadoglu, the man she’s been trying to kill all these years? Do you expect me to believe that? Mahmut says that’s the truth. Okay, Miran says, if it’s true she told you to protect us with your life, and you came and saved me, how did you know this was a set up? When they didn’t go to the station, I knew, Mahmut replies, my lady warned me.
She warned you, Miran scoffs. So…she didn’t send those sweets either? Mahmut emphatically says it wasn’t her. Then who was it, Miran wants to know. Mahmut hesitates and replays Azizes voice, telling him Miran can’t know this was Fusun’s doing. If he finds out, he won’t stop. He doesn’t know how dangerous she is. Don’t tell him.
Miran shouts, who was it! I don’t know, Mahmut replies. Miran starts to walk. Mahmut calls out, Miran Ağam! and falls to his knees. My neck is thinner than a hair. [I love this phrase] Break my neck! But just tell me who answered the phone. They could have my lady. I beg you tell me, and I will save her. Miran gives a cryptic response: she’s in the hands of the person she hurt last. Look there.
Handan complains about Nasuh sending Azat out to find Miran. His mother is gone too, she snarks, I can find her too, if you want. Nasuh warns her to watch her mouth, otherwise he will teach her. Melike comes rushing in with the news that Rey has run off. Sukran cries out and feels faint.
Zeynep is keeping busy, tidying up in the cabin. She calls Firat, not available. I guess that’s Miran’s phone, because a text comes in from Esma: Miran, I didn’t want it to be like this. I can’t make you or Firat forgive me for what I did. I know that. Hakkını helal et… I entrust Firat to Allah first and then to you. Zeynep knows what this could mean and worries. She calls Esma, who doesn’t answer. Esma is fading fast. Her last words, forgive me. She’s done something, Zeynep thinks.
Rey sneaks out onto the street. She hears Nasuh’s words: Fusun Aslanbey could have done this. She helped us but she’s not our friend. She did everything for herself and she’s a dangerous woman. She also has Azize. Nasuh finds Rey. Why did you run, he asks, what if something happened to you? The worst already happened, Rey says, I lost one of my babies. I will confront that woman and make sure my unborn child has a father.
Nasuh stops her. She won’t tell you the truth. If this could be resolved with words, I would talk to her. Then do it, Rey asks, you accepted him as your grandson. I don’t know where my husband is. Where is your grandson? Go and demand she tell you. Save him and bring him back. I’m so tired of being scared, she cries. When we got married, we tried to run from you. We’ve run from Azize, from uncle, and now this Fusun shows up to ruin our lives.
Don’t say that Nasuh tells her. He takes the blame for all that’s happened. I’m the one who caused your suffering. God placed you in my care and I failed. It’s only recently I learned how to be a father, a grandfather… and only because you taught me. Now I’m going to fix everything I destroyed. Anyone that’s hurt you will pay. He wants her to come home. He will make sure Fusun answers for this, even if he has to die. He takes her home.
Azize is crying at the bottom of the pit. She calls out, who is there, show your face? She yells for Fusun. You poisoned Reyyan, you threw me in here… you did this… but you won’t kill me. You won’t destroy me. When I get out of here, I will rip your heart out with my bare hands. No one will save you.
Azize attempts to climb out but falls and sobs. She prays, Lord, please don’t abandon me now. Please help me out of here. I need to help my family. I offer my soul, but please save my family. [wow, I thought she already sold her soul to the devil. Now she’s trying to switch teams.] I know I have no right to ask you anything, but I beg you, please don’t forsake me now. Please, Lord, let me hear my son’s voice. Don’t let me die without hearing him call me “mother”. Please don’t let me die….
Mahfuz answers his door and it’s crazy Zehra who bolts right past him. Where is she?! Where are you keeping her? Hand her over. Control yourself, Zehra! He tells her she needs to leave now. Too late, there’s a knock at the door.
It’s Hazar and Mahfuz shoves Zehra into the bedroom. Hazar says he doesn’t have much time but this is important. Something terrible happened. Hazar tells him about Rey’s twins. Someone poisoned her and she lost one of them. Do you know who did it, Mahfuz asks? No. We went looking for Azize, but some men in military uniforms showed up and took Miran and arrested him for murder. Miran is kidnapped and I don’t know where he is. How can I help, Mahfuz asks?
Hazar suspects Fusun is behind this. I don’t trust Azize but I have to consider the possibilities. You know Fusun. Could she have done this? Mahfuz says she protected ReyMir from the start. She knows I’m Rey’s father. She wouldn’t do this.
Hazar speculates that Fusun might blame ReyMir for Aslan’s death. Could she have done this to pin it on Azize? [very good, Hazar] He asks Mahfuz to think about this and call him if anything. Before Hazar goes, Mahfuz asks if he thinks Rey would mind him calling her. Hazar says she needs all the support she can get right now. He leaves.
Mahfuz hopes that Fusun wasn’t stupid enough to hurt Rey. Zehra comes charging out of the bedroom. If you love Reyyan even a little, you will stay away from her. She leaves.
Ali gives Hazar a lead on Miran. Hazar spots Zehra leaving the hotel and getting in a cab.
Zeynep finds Esma passed out. She can’t wake her and calls for help. There’s a suicide victim… she took something…
Nasuh storms the Aslanbey konak. Fusun is on the patio with Harun, Yaren and Seyda. Gonul watches from a window and comes out. Nasuh says he isn’t here for pleasantries. I’ll say it then leave. Miran has disappeared. What do you mean, Gonul asks? Nasuh explains he was taken by men in military uniforms. They were impostors. Fusun blames Azize. Gonul is ready to believe her.
It’s not Azize, Nasuh says, she is also missing. Someone took her and it could be the same person. So you came here looking for Azize, Fusun asks? Not just for her, but Miran, too. Fusun warns Nasuh not to cross the line. I understand why you ask about Azize because she is my enemy. But what do I have to do with Miran? I reunited him with his family.
Nasuh says, I am an honorable man, I don’t know about games or ruining plans. All I care about is my family, children and grandchildren. When someone hurts them, they hurt me, and I demand explanations. I wanted you to know that as well. Be careful, Fusun answers, your words will serve to break an amicable bond. Your granddaughter is my DIL. Not willingly, Nasuh replies. Your son lied his way into our house. Let’s tell it like it is. So where is Miran?
Harun steps in, why would my mother do something like this? Nasuh is waiting for his answer. If I knew, I’d tell you Fusun says, and if you want my help, I’ll look for him. But you are making accusations. That’s not nice. So you don’t have him, Nasuh asks? Then I’ve said my piece and you listened. He repeats anyone who messes with his children or grandchildren is my enemy. He leaves and Gonul follows him out and tells him if she finds out anything she will call him.
Harun questions his mother. She goes to her room and starts to call Cihan. She changes her mind. Let them destroy themselves. She gets a call from Mahfuz. He wants to meet her at the hotel lobby. She’ll be there.
Harun comes to see his mom. She tells him she’s busy, they will talk later. He questions her about Miran. She says she doesn’t have him. She’s ticked at Harun. You didn’t even discuss your marriage with me and now you ask me for explanations? She cautions him.
Harun calls Mahfuz. Miran’s missing. Yeah, he knows. Harun asks, what are you going to do? You haven’t turned over Dilsah. Mahfuz says he will deliver Dilsah but now Miran is missing. I have to find out about that first. And if we don’t find Miran? Dilsah will still return, Mahfuz replies, there’s no other way.
Back at the Sad konak, the fam (including the hateful Mr & Mrs Cihan) sits with Rey. Zehra tries to get her daughter to eat. She won’t eat until Mir is back. Hazar and Azat return, they didn’t find him, but the word is out, be patient, we’ll find him soon. Rey tries to comfort a very distraught Sukran. The camera keeps flashing on that snake Cihan.
Hazar asks Zehra where she went. Zehra lies. I went to the midwife about Bahar.
Nasuh returns and says he got nothing from Fusun. Cihan is the first to jump up. Handan asks, what did you expect to get? Miran’s whereabouts, Rey shoots back. Did you see Fusun about Miran, Cihan asks? Father and son get into it again. Azat calls for calm. Cihan wants to keep the focus on Azize. Hazar shouts, my son is missing! We’ll talk to everyone! What’s wrong with you?
You are exonerating Azize despite all her sins, Cihan objects, and you blame Fusun now? Nasuh calls him out for worrying about an in-law when his nephew is missing. Oh, and BTW, where have you been? It’s time to be with your family. As if he cared, Rey interjects, you don’t even want Miran in this house. Why would he care when he tried to kill him?! He would celebrate if something happened to him! Maybe you and Fusun did this, she accuses. [bingo!] They shout at each other.
Miran suddenly shows up and rushes straight for Cihan and grabs him by the collar. They are pulled apart. Are you going to kill me, Cihan shouts? I don’t do things halfway like you, Miran answers.
Flashback outside before Miran entered the Sad konak. Firat and Miran are trying to figure out Cihan’s game. They suspect he’s in with Fusun. They need to find Azize. Miran says the fact that she disappeared the same time as me is a big coincidence. Firat asks what would be the point? Miran notes that the men who kidnapped him wanted him alive, they didn’t fire a single shot. They wanted to blame me for Azize’s disappearance or blame her for mine. We need to figure out how to force Fusun’s hand so she will turn Azize over. If Cihan is working with her, we will know what the problem is. End flash.
Cihan goes on the defense, are you threatening me in my own house?! I am not threatening, I am telling you what will happen if you go near my wife again, Miran warns. Reyyan collapses and Miran carries her away.
Hazar’s turn to yell at Cihan, if you’re going to cause problems, then leave! Nasuh shouts at Cihan, this is over! Really? Your son just kicked me out in front of you. What’s over?! Azat steps in to calm. Cihan says since I’m disturbing the peace, I’ll take my family and leave. He turns to Handan, get ready, we’re leaving. Azat says it the anger talking. Handan won’t go—this is our home, too. Cihan walks and Nasuh goes after him.
Halef calls Cihan. No Miran, but we have his gun. Ok, Cihan says, now I know what to do. Azize will die, if not by Miran’s hand, by his gun. Cihan drives off.
Zeynep is in the ambulance with Esma. She calls Firat and gives him the news.
ReyMir are in the bedroom. Rey says she’s not feeling better. I don’t understand why they took you. I ask how you escaped and you said you just got away. That’s all I know, he says, we need Azize to show up if we want to know more. She has the answers.
He wants to talk about something else. Let’s leave this place, she asks, I’m very scared. There’s nothing to fear, he replies. Rey disagrees. This will get you killed one day. You will leave one day and never return! He promises that will never happen. I’ll never leave you.
Nothing is over, she shouts. The pain is the same, nothing has changed! Your rage is the same! You live your life in a constant rush and you will never change! [let him have it, Rey!] One of our babies died. If we don’t leave the other might have to grow up without a father, she cries. My baby died! My biggest fear came true! And then I had to worry about you! Again! I couldn’t mourn my child because I worried about you! I can never put myself first. [she’s finally getting it] I always internalize my pain and I’m sick of it!
Miran asks her to calm down and she throws something. Hazar, Zehra and Melike are listening at the door and Zehra wants to go in. Hazar stops her.
Firat is at the hospital crying about his mother. Zeynep is there for him. What kind of son am I, he asks? My mother is here because of me. You warned me, I didn’t listen. If you hadn’t… he sobs. Zeynep tells him Esma will be okay, and he can talk to her when she wakes up. Firat can only think of what might have happened. He cries on Zeynep’s shoulder.
Rey can’t be comforted. Don’t make me pay for things, she tells Mir, I can’t bear it anymore. She thinks of her dead baby. But the other is still here, Miran says, there are three of us. She pushes him away. She’s angry he didn’t tell her that the baby died. Sorry, this is sad, but it went on way too long for my liking… I’m using the recapper’s prerogative FF>>
Fusun and Mahfuz meet in the hotel lobby. She’s surprised he stayed in Midyat. He surprised himself, too. Mahfuz says they decided that Aslan didn’t die from my gunshot, but from the accident he caused. But you shot him, she says, did you think I’d forget? Blah, blah, blah. Mahfuz tells her that Reyyan lost her baby. She seems surprised and says Nasuh didn’t mention that. It was one of the twins, Mahfuz explains. I’m sorry, I didn’t know, she offers. Didn’t you, Mahfuz asks?
Are you blaming me, she asks? No. I don’t assign blame, but I know who did it. Fusun wants to get to the point. Someone is playing games, Mahfuz tells her. Our plan with Aslan remains unfinished. I won’t leave until I’m done. I will punish the person who hurt my daughter. If you find out anything, you have my number.
He leaves and Fusun wonders what is unfinished. She gets a revelation, it was you, Mahfuz. It was you Azize. She tells her henchie that Mahfuz has Dilsah. Follow him.
ReyMir are out in a field. The idea here is to launch a lantern to deliver their baby as an angel to heaven. The idea is not really working for Reyyan. [not working for me either, my finger is on the FF ready to go at any second]
Azize has a vision of Nasuh coming for her. You came to help me, she asks? She is snapped out of it by Cihan calling her name. He announces, for what you’ve done to my family, you’re going to die. I will make sure it works out for me. Azize thinks Cihan will be blamed for her death. No one will know, he replies. He’s got Miran’s gun and she will die from a bullet from that gun. Azize tells him there is something he should know. He shushes her.
You wanted to be forgiven, he says. That won’t happen. You’re a sinner, you’re cruel and even if you repent, your actions won’t be forgotten. Azize mumbles, not now, Lord. I can’t die until my son calls me mother. Don’t forsake me.
Are you scared, he asks, where is Azize? The woman who wore her shroud and waited for her death. Maybe you will remember something I told you: everyone is afraid of something. And here is your fear. But fear is useless against death. May you burn in hell for all eternity, Azize. Cihan points the gun.
Nasuh appears, son, don’t do it! He asks for the gun, you’re not a killer. How do you know, Cihan replies, how would you know who I am? Are you finally seeing me? You left me in the shadows and stifled my growth. Nasuh Sadoglu who refused to forgive his young son’s simple mistakes, forgave the woman who hurt him most in this world.
Cihan continues, my mother spent her life waiting to hear a loving word from you. You were always angry. Was it because of her (Azize)? You didn’t love us because of her? Nasuh says he loved them. But not like this woman, Cihan shouts. He recounts the yelling, the cursing. Nasuh says he didn’t love Azize, he loved Ayse and Cihan’s mother knew it. Cihan calls him a liar.
Flashback to when Cihan was a boy. His parents argue about the state of their relationship. Is it so hard to love me, Nazli asks? You never stopped loving her. Cihan asks his father why he doesn’t love his mother. Why do you make her cry? Nasuh is ready to hit the kid but his mother stops it. She consoles her son and tells him his father loves him. end flash.
Cihan says, my mother always defended you, but you ruined her life. She died from grief when she was still young. You two left me without a mother. She (Azize) has to pay the price and you will, too. I will kill her, and my mother will finally have peace in her grave!
Nasuh steps in front of Cihan. If you kill her… What will you do, Cihan shouts. Will you renounce me?! Will you kill me?! I would never hurt you, Nasuh answers, I would kill myself first. I would gouge my eyes out, would cut off my hand. But if you kill her… you will kill me. Did you love her that much, Cihan asks? After how she’s hurt us, you’ll still protect her?
Azize speaks, Cihan, those responsible for these revenge schemes are gone. If my death will bring back what you lost, then kill me. I lost everyone I loved, too, and I lost my mind from the pain. Cihan wants Azize to be quiet. She continues, you’re a father. You understand. Even if you don’t forgive me, you understand. Miran shot your son. That poisoned your soul. Cihan shouts at her to shut up. She says, everything I did was because of the pain I felt for my son. I thought it was my right. I said, this is justice. Look at me, I was wrong. If you shoot me, you will be just like me. I’m not asking you to spare my life, I’m asking you not to surrender to the darkness like I did.
Cihan replies, you destroyed my family. Not just today. You ruined my childhood and deprived my mother of love. Nasuh repeats that Nazli knew what she was getting into. Cihan calls him a liar. Nasuh says he never lied, but he was lied to. His only sin was believing those lies. Cihan throws the gun down. There’s no need, he says, we’re already dead. Cihan walks away.
Nasuh tells Azize, who he only calls Ayse now, he will be back with a ladder.
Back to the lantern ceremony. Rey says some words and lets it float up to the sky. Lots of tears. Mir promises her that he will be a different man, no more Angry Bangs. [hasn’t he promised this before?]
Nasuh rescues Azize from the pit. This time you came back, she says. You came for me. She sees young Nasuh and he sees his Ayse. They embrace. They see the lantern.
More ReyMir mourning their baby. Miran carries Reyyan and we see young Nasuh carrying young Ayse. Miran brings Rey home and Nasuh brings Azize home. Both take care of their beloveds.
Azize blames herself for what Cihan has done. I caused him and my own son so much pain. I made so many mistakes. Nasuh says it’s his fault. He didn’t see what he was doing to his son. He only saw his own problems. We couldn’t care for our children, she laments. We turned hard and hurt each other. A shame. Nasuh says he will fix it. I will reunite you with Hazar and I with Cihan. I will pay our debt. We owe it to them. We have to pay.
Firat is at Esma’s bedside when she wakes. Zeynep is there, too. You were going to leave me with all this pain and regret. Esma is sorry. Didn’t you think about that? Didn’t you think your son would go crazy? Zeynep leaves the room. Forgive me, Esma asks. No, you forgive me, Firat replies. I couldn’t understand.
Miran slides into be and cuddles up to Rey. Later we see she’s out of bed. She’s writing a letter to her baby about his lost sibling. [I don’t have the bandwidth to recap the letter, so I hope you paid attention]
As Rey writes, we see Hazar and Zehra in bed, awake, facing away from each other. Nasuh watching sleeping Azize and probably thinking how he will make things right. Yaren and Harun in bed. She’s smiling and turns to face Harun. When did that ice melt? Azat with his prayer beads. Is he thinking of Gonul because we cut over to her sitting out on the patio. Finally, we go back to Rey telling her baby, don’t give up. More crying. She folds the letter and puts it into the box with the coin that Mahfuz sent. Then she slides back into bed and cuddles next to Miran.
Zeynep has been sitting out in the waiting area. Firat comes over. Esma will get a psych eval. Your mother will heal, she assures Firat. She’s been hurt a lot. Firat is down on himself again. You’ve only seen my mother a couple of times and you understood her. I’m her son and I couldn’t. Don’t be hard on yourself, Zeynep says. Don’t look back, look ahead. You can make everything right again. Firat resolves to do so.
He faces Zeynep. Thanking you for days wouldn’t be enough. Do you realize you’ve given me the world? Then build a good world, she replies, it needs people like you. More like you, he tells her. He takes her hand. You saved my life, not just my mother’s. Thank you. She says she should go. He stops her. One last thing: there’s something he needs to take care of. He needs just one hour. Yes, she will stay.
Fusun is replaying Mahfuz’ words. Someone is playing a game. Our plans with Aslan are unfinished…etc. Fusun says despite everything Azize’s done, you blame me. She makes a call to Cihan. He doesn’t answer.
Firat barges into Fusun’s room. Fusun comments this isn’t his house anymore. That hasn’t been cleared up yet, he says. What do you want, she asks? I want Azize Aslanbey, he replies, give her to me. Fusun doesn’t know where she is. Okay then, Firat says they will proceed. Azize is missing.. why? Because you have her. You have to hand her over to me. Why do you think I have her, Fusun asks?
Firat takes a paper from his pocket. Give me Azize Aslanbey. I will transfer all my assets to the Aslanbey family.
And we are out.
Please Telemundo, no more two hour eps!
Thank you, dondi356. It was a pleasure to "rewatch" the episode through your recap.
Fatmagul should have suspected a surprise. Really, a husband forgets his wife's birthday one month after the wedding?! And after reminding him, still no excitement or initiative?! But it looked so sad when she prepared dinner, cake, decorated the table, and then put everything away. And what a surprise gift! For her and Kerim.
Lucio, I so agree with you! It made for a cute story but it was SO out of character and unbelievable that Kerim would a) forget her birthday and then b) not immediately move heaven and earth to make it up to her. I was definitely not surprised when there was a 'surprise'.
excellent recap dondi356. I loved the snark, especially: “Zehra delivers a bofetada and tries to burn a hole through him with her patented stupid stare.” The nerve of her to demand Dilsah. I was glad Mahfuz didn’t back down and said he also deserved to see his child.
Azize is trying hard to switch teams, she sure was doing a lot of praying.
Nasuh has finally taken responsibility for his actions and realizing how much damage he has caused everyone, even Cihan. He and Ayse/Azize have a lot of repairing to do.
Good for Reyyan in chewing out Miran for running off halfcocked. I am glad that ReyMir did something to honor the loss of their twin baby. Also, way happy Esma survived and Firat saw the light.
I am always okay with any recapper FF, dondi356, some of these scenes go on and on.
I don’t think Reyyan said anything profound in that letter to the Lentil.
Yes, dondi356, please Telemundo, no more two-hour episodes. I appreciate your recap!
Thanks SO much, dondi, for another fine, detailed recap. And never apologize for skipping things that go on and on. I loved your describing your finger on the FF button, itching to do it.
You are probably right about Ayse/Azize's attack dog being called Mahmut instead of Mahmoud. I just started that way and decided to go with it!
I so agree with Zehra's "stupid stare". She didn't learn a damn thing from hiding that letter about Miran's being Hazar's son FOREVER. She's still trying to hang onto her husband. Some interesting parallels between Nasuh and Nezli (is that right?) and Hazar and Zehra. Except Hazar has appeared to love Zahra most of the dizi. She lied to him about where she was when she went out, and you could see the wheels turning in his head while they lay back to back. Reyyan got whatever good sense she has from Mahfuz.
Reyyan was on my last nerve last night. I imagined the actor having a very stuffy nose the whole evening after filming that sob fest. Where is the gratitude that Ayse saved one of her babies?
I wish they'd let up on those Suffering Sukran scenes. She's one of my favorites and they keep dangling her possible dying in front of us whenever there's bad news.
I posted something about the actor portraying Ayse/Azize being SUCH a pro and I'll add the same for the guy portraying Nasuh. The two have both have had realizations of the harm they've done others and have vowed to fix it all. Well acted by both. As for what Nasuh said to Cihan, it looks like Nezli hadn't watched enough dizis. Nasuh told Cihan that he was straight with her when he married her. She should have known that those forever loves in dizis and telenovelas never change.
I KNOW I could have climbed out of that hole in the ground. You just take off your shoes so your feet can grip. Those stones had plenty of places to place hands and/or feet.
So...Mahfuz could atone for his big sin in wanting Zehra to abort Reyyan by taking her back and having to live with la estupida. This would free up Hazar to reunite with Dilsah. They could work out a joint custody arrangement for Gul and Bahar, easy peasy.
Thanks VERY much, dondi356, for this excellent recap. I loved your snarky, on-target asides, especially when Azize tells Mahmoud "Die for them if necessary. They must live, that’s all I ask. [that’s all??]"
I'm afraid I found it hard to concentrate on the episode. Too much of it was repetitious, over-the-top emoting by Reyyan. I'm glad you made use of the recapper's friend, FF>>. I did have some sympathy for her, especially at first. She was right to be angry at Miran, who, doesn't take her concerns seriously. As usual, he thinks he's invincible and there's no reason for her to worry. Yeah, right. But then she goes into over-the-top emote mode and stays there for far too long. I just wanted to FF>>.
I found it interesting to watch the Fusun contingent, esp. Mahfouz, Harun, and perhaps Asiye, trying to figure out what was going on. They've all been so focused on bringing down Azize that they don't see how evil and dangerous Fusun actually is.
When you say near the end, "I don’t have the bandwidth to recap the letter," I'm wondering whether "bandwidth" is a code word for "patience." :-) IMHO, the letter was definitely worthy of FF>>.
I'm still wondering what will happen with Zehra when Dilsah reappears.
I was surprised by Firat's offer to Fusun. I'm not sure he's doing a wise thing. We'll see, I guess. In ONE-HOUR episodes, thank goodness!!
Again, many thanks!
Thank you, patio.
You have a good point, Darcy, about letting Fatma walk around on her own. But I think Kerim and Rahmi are more relaxed now that Musto is gone, the rotten ricos are behind bars, and the Yasarans are penniless and powerless. Still, there are idiots out there like the neighbor, Sukru.
Kristen’s got a thing for Turkish guys. Can’t say I blame her.
I agree with the patio that Fatma should have been suspicious when Kerim, Meryem and Rahmi forgot her birthday. I guess she’s so used to being disappointed that she just accepted it.
Engin’s hair—that’s the great debate among fans. He says if he does his job well, then the hair doesn’t matter. I love him with all his looks.
Darcy, where are you watching Sefirin Kızı? I’ve already seen the entire show in Turkish. Uni did a chop job on that, too, when they aired it as La Hija del Embajador. Now we are waiting for them to air the “final season”. If you are watching the Uni eps, check out the recaps and comments. And if you become an Engin fan you should watch Kara Para Aşk (Black Money Love). Susanlynn might back me up on that. It’s currently on Netflix, with English subs available. I think there are Spanish dubbed eps on YouTube.
Final Fatmagul recap will be up tomorrow. Still a little more to discover and think about before we say goodbye.
Dondi, It's the Uni version of the show I am watching La Hija del Embajador' I just put it as Sefirin Kizi since I've picked up on your tendency to use the official titles. I just googled the name of the show and watch online and looked around until I found a sight that had episodes uploaded. I try not to think about the virus risk in that! LOL
I actually found a website that had all the episodes of Fatma in Turkish with English subtitles way back in December when I was looking for a scene that Uni cut, but that was before I went to visit my mom. I don't remember now where I found that I should have bookmarked it. Maybe it was even you that told me about the site? I don't remember, life has been so non stop the last few months I have a hard time remembering last week.
put Kara Para Ask or Black Money Love in my Netflix cue and it looks really good, but I figured I would watch this first since Netflix isn't going anywhere and third party sites tend to disappear sometimes.
Thank you, everyone. And thanks for giving me a pass on the FF’s
VVS, I agree it was good that Reyyan ripped into Miran and good that they acknowledged the loss of their baby, but those scenes were so over the top and so dragged out, the impact was ruined. YMMV. Note to self: avoid other dizis scripted by these writers.
Firat and Zeynep will make a very nice couple. Wow, could this be the first stable relationship in Midyat?
novelera, I’ve seen Mahmut’s name written so many ways in the captions. We know who we mean. I usually consult with IMDb for correct spellings. I’ve used Sultana even though the character’s name is really Sultan. And ITA about Zehra and Suffering Sukran. I don’t know if Azize’s burned hands kept her from climbing out of the hole. She seemed to be in physical pain as well as mental.
Thank you for your posting about Ayda Aksel. I think she’s the best actor on the show. Macit Sonkan as Nasuh is good, too. One has a better appreciation for the acting when you watch in the original language.
Juanita, bandwidth defined as “the energy or mental capacity required to deal with a situation”. I lost that and patience in a few places.
“They've all been so focused on bringing down Azize that they don't see how evil and dangerous Fusun actually is.” This is a good point.
As for Firat’s move at the end of the show, I remember the discussion he had with Miran outside the konak. Miran asked Firat to think. They needed to come up with something to force Fusun to hand over Azize. I’m guessing this is some sort of trick on Firat’s part and yes, I hope it doesn't backfire. What they don’t know is Nasuh has Azize. Only Cihan knows right now.
Dondi, thank you for that excellent recap of all the lying, trying, and crying. There is so much happening.
I love Firat and Zeynep. He got quite a prize in her, and long suffering Esme deserves a kind, loving DIL.
Fusan is gathering a lot of enemies.
I like Mafmoud more and more even though his young self was wrong in rejecting a pregnant Zehra.
I can forgive Rey for the over emoting. Losing a child , born or unborn , is devastating . I have lost one of each . I was advised to write letters to them . The experience either pulls couples apart or bonds them together forever. I was happy to see Mir and Rey cling to each other. I liked the lantern idea. Doing something physical like that is beneficial to healing . My college roommate taught in a Catholic girls' school, and I remember how comforting it was when she told us that the nuns lit candles . I had a student tell me that in her religion , the lost baby pulls the mother to heaven when she dies. It is a life altering experience, so I understood Rey's reaction.
Donde356!
Yes!yes...yes..You came to. Slay!
Reyyan you just miscarried.. but you running around like a Madwoman....Hormonal crazy...good cussing 🤬 Moron out.Loved it!....
Team Cihan.. dude is carrying trauma...n that BULLSHISH..abt his mom knew what she was walking into is some Bullcrap!
In the final episode, we get a glimpse of how the past predicts the future.
Fatma and Kerim sit by the shore. They are quiet. Is it good news or bad? Kerim breaks the silence, what will the name be? If It’s a girl, let’s name her Enise, after your mother, Fatma suggests. Would you like that? Kerim gets emotional. He likes the idea. If it’s a boy, let’s give him your father’s name, Mehmet. Okay, Fatma smiles. Would you want a boy or a girl, he asks? I want it to be healthy, she replies, may God write a good destiny. Kerim adds, may it come across good people. May its future be bright, Fatma says. Amen. Fatma leans on Kerim and she puts his arm around her.
Kerim calls his father with the good news.
Back to the present and Fatma explains how everyone was overjoyed at the news of her pregnancy, especially Meryem. And that’s how we found out about our Enise. My girl was a surprise for us all, Kerim notes. The neighbor says it’s time for her to go. She tells Esma she can stay but be home before the father.
Fatma and Kerim have decided to postpone their trip to Australia until next summer so Enise can go with them. Anyway, Kerim’s family will be here for the birth and for New Year’s. Meryem calls. She is with Kadir and they are on vacation in Crete and having a great time. It’s where her mother’s family is from. Fatma shares Esma and Emre’s good news with her. Fatma talks about visiting her brother in Ildir soon. More small talk and the calls ends.
Kadir is relieved that everything has turned out well with Fatma and Kerim’s neighbors. The fire brought them closer. Meryem says every cloud has a silver lining.
We go to June 14, the day after the trial. Emre is driving Fatma and Kerim home. Fatma is asleep in the back seat. Emre thought they would have come home right away. Kerim says they were exhausted after the trial and Fatma wanted to visit the village. As they get close to the house, we see Esma walking home with her mother and little sister. And as they get closer, they notice smoke clouds billowing.
Esma’s house is on fire! There’s a bucket brigade trying to do what they can, but the fire looks pretty bad. Esma’s family arrives, and they are distraught. The father is in the house. Kerim and Emre take action. They douse themselves with water and rush into the house. Fatma screams for Kerim. The guys manage to get the unconscious and unconscionable Sukru out of the house alive.
Kerim, Fatma and Emre visit Sukru in the hospital. We find out the fire was caused by the drunk Sukru falling asleep with a burning cigarette in his hand. Some other neighbors are also visiting. Sukru says he wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for Kerim and Emre. Sukru is very embarrassed, and he doesn’t know what to say. He doesn’t remember much of what happened. His family told him. God bless you both, Sukru says, you saved my life.
Kerim says anyone would do the same. No, Sukru replies, they say don’t buy a house, buy a neighbor. I would have become ashes. I don’t only owe you an apology, I owe you my life. No one owes anything, Kerim tells him. I don’t know if I can be forgiven, Sukru says, but the one who forgives is greater. I ask for your forgiveness. Fatma doesn’t look so ready to forgive. There’s silence.
Fatma finally says, if your apology is sincere, we can be at peace. We live next door and we will see each other for years. Our children will grow up near you and they should be happy, as long as the mistakes won’t be repeated. I promise on my honor, Sukru replies, you are not only my neighbors from now on, but my family. And if anyone speaks ill of you, they will answer to me.
Kerim says, then you will be our family, too. But I don’t want anyone to get hurt in my family. Kerim looks at Esma. And if that happens, I will remind you. I promise, you have my word, Sukru says. Esma hands out cologne. There’s a look between Esma and Emre. Maybe this was the beginning of their relationship.
Back to the present. Fatma says after Sukru came home, everything changed. All the neighbors helped repair the house and Kerim helped, too. Esma says she started coming over to Fatma’s as well. Sinem asks if she was seeing Emre here. No, Esma replies, Fatma knew nothing about us. It happened when we started working at the restaurant.
Fatma says Esma and her mother started working at Rose Kitchen because she felt sick the first months of her pregnancy. Meryem couldn’t do it all by herself and Mehmet went back to his village after taking his exams. Thankfully, Esma came to the rescue and then her mother helped. And when I saw her sarma was better than mine, I let her do it. They started to work with us.
We get a flashback to Esma serving Emre at the restaurant. Fatma and Meryem have gone to see Rahmi off to Ildir. Emre starts a conversation with her, and we find out he’s been coming every day and the reason is he has no other way of seeing her. He offers to take her out on his boat. Esma’s mom has to call her away.
Flashback continues at the bus station. Where the Ketencis are getting ready to make the trip back to Ildir. Murat is holding on to his hala. He tells her you promised you would come to see me. Yes, I will come, and you will come here, too, she replies. Hala, seni çok seviyorum, Auntie, I love you very much. Fatma loves Murat very much, too. Kerim says goodbye to Murat.
Rahmi says his goodbyes to Kadir. He asks, hakkını helal et [mainly because of all the trouble that Muka caused] and Kadir readily returns the helal olsun. Rahmi moves over to Meryem. What can I say? How can I thank you? They hug. Fatma tries to hold back tears. Muka glares.
Rahmi has a hug and a hakkını helal et for Kerim. You are my brother, too, Rahmi tells him, I count on you, I trust you. I know you will take good care of my sister. Don’t worry, abi, Kerim replies. I won’t worry, Rahmi says.
Fatma can’t hold back her tears anymore. She hugs her brother, and he tells her don’t cry. I’m not crying so you shouldn’t cry, but we see him wipe a little tear. Fatma asks him to call her if he needs anything. He will call her every day. I can’t live without hearing your voice, he says. Take care of yourself and my niece, too. We are being separated for the first time, he laments. We are not being separated, Fatma replies. We are living in different places, but we are together. They hug again.
Rahmi tells Muka, who has been standing to the side and has been ignored, that it is time to go. Muka gives her goodbyes. She shakes hands with Kadir, you did a lot for us, I don’t know how we can repay you. You are welcome, he replies, have a safe trip. Muka moves on to Meryem, may God give you peace, Meryem Hanım. They shake hands and Meryem says, have a nice trip.
Muka stands before Fatma. Kerim listens intently. This is where we part ways, Fatmagul Hanım. Everything we have lived is finished. I didn’t want it to end like this, but I don’t know what I can say. Everyone had their own reasons, and we don’t have to understand. I don’t want to make this more difficult but, I think you should at least “hakkını helal et”. [the absolute gall of this woman, thinking that Fatma should ask her for forgiveness!! A real POS to the very end.] Fatma manages to ignore that comment [I don’t know how] and gives baby Elif a kiss and she tells Muka, “güle güle”, a form of goodbye said by the person who stays behind.
Next, Muka goes over to Kerim. [He shifts his feet and has to ready himself for this. His reactions to Muka have been priceless.] It sounded to me like she told him “Allah'a ısmarladık” kinda like go with God. And he answers, “güle güle”. Muka gives off one last smirk before boarding the bus. Lots of waves and tears [except for Muka] as the bus pulls away.
Back to the present. Fatma shows Sinem a recent pics of Rahmi and Elif and Rahmi and Murat fishing. She says they opened the dairy and started to produce organic products. Fatma plans to use all of their products at Rose Kitchen. And she realizes now that they are happier in Ildir. Rahmi is more comfortable.
Sinem says Fatma has told her about before and after the trial. If you want, can we talk about that day now? Fatma gives the okay. And we go back to Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
We hear Fatma’s voice: another day has begun to remind me of this nightmare. We see Erdo, Selim and Kerim in the box. Seated in the gallery: Peri, Hilmiye, Yadigar, Meryem, Rahmi, Meltem, Sinem, Ender, Meltem, Hacer. Fatma continues, every time I went to court, I hoped it would be the last. Let it be the last one. The last time I see their faces…the last time I look into their eyes. We see others in the defendants’ box: Mukaddes, Munir and Resat (in a wheelchair).
Fatma’s voice again: I wanted the screams in my ears to go away, so my baby wouldn’t hear them. I wanted this to be the last time. (Kerim and Fatma give each other and encouraging look.) Without looking back, without being ashamed of our happiness. Without betraying the Fatmagul who lived that nightmare, I wanted to go on living my life. I wanted the cruel ones to get their punishment. I wanted this to be the last one. This was the end of Turkish ep 79.
Now we go way back to the beginning of our story. Fatma is awakened by a knocking at her window. It’s Musto and it’s very early in the morning and everyone else in the house is still asleep. He wants her to come out. She quickly gets dressed. A neighbor comes out and greets Musto. Are you out sleepwalking, he smiles. Musto says he going to be leaving next morning to go fishing and Fatma’s phone isn’t working so he’s here to tell her something. Musto mentions he will be gone for at least 10 days.
Fatma tries to sneak off but Muka wakes and starts in, where are you going? Don’t disappear. There’s a lot of work to be done. Fatma says she will be back in 10 minutes. Muka follows her downstairs, nagging all the way. We have to be at the Yasarans before noon. Don’t leave me to do all the work, do you hear? Fatma says they are going to talk about the house and she slips out the door. She runs off with Musto, with Muka shouting after her, just 10 minutes!
Muka complains to Rahmi, Mustafa whistles and she wags her tail and runs to him. She has no shame! Rahmi just smiles.
Musto steals a little kiss from Fatma and she pushes him away. They continue running through the town.
Meanwhile, Kerim pedals up to Galip’s workshop with Meryem in the back. She sends him off with a treatment for Galip and they talk about getting ready for the party at the Yasarans’ that evening. Meryem heads off and Kerim opens the shop and sets up.
Fatma and Musto sit by the water. She asks, did you go to sleep right away? No, I was thinking of you. She calls him a liar, you went to see your friends after you left me. He denies this. She says she has to go, there’s too much work to be done. He wants her to stay a little longer. She doesn’t want to hear it from Muka later. But I didn’t have enough of you yet, he cajoles and gives her a kiss. She pushes him away, someone might see! You are my fiancée, he tells her. Your fiancée, not your wife, she replies.
He asks when she’s going to the Yasarans. Before noon. Are you going to be there all night? Yes, we are going to serve the tables. Musto questions if she will be doing the serving. No, she will fill plates for the waiters. He wants to make sure she won’t leave the kitchen and adds, don’t swing your skirt so much and draw attention.
She takes offense. Do I do those things? I’m only telling you so you don’t get me into trouble, he responds. If you’re so worried, she offers, why don't you come with me. What am I going to do in a kitchen, he tells her. Besides, I’m going to Cesme. Serdar has something to do, and he asked me to go with him.
Fatma calls him out, it’s obvious you want to go out to drink and have fun again. [there were signs even then] Musto tries to minimize it, when business is sorted, we may go out for a few drinks. It’s obvious, she exclaims. He mocks her. Muka calls Musto and orders Fatma to come home. She tells him to come get her tonight. She doesn’t know what time, just come and she runs off.
Meltem and Selim are getting ready for the day after showering. She’s reading the accounts of their engagement in bunch of newspapers. It’s all the same. He tells her they will have a lot of new material to write after tonight [he has no idea…]
Turaner knocks on Meltem’s door and calls her for brekkie. She keeps him out by saying she’s getting dressed. Your friends are here, and Selim will be here soon, too, don’t make him wait. [lol! If he only knew.] Should I sneak out the back and come in through the front, Selim asks? She notes he’s wearing the same clothes as last night. He just won’t wear his jacket, and no one will notice.
Meltem gets serious for a moment. She asks if he’s going to do anything about the tensions between Resat and Erdogan. She wants a calm night. Of course. Meltem has another request, don’t start drinking too early with your friends. I don’t want any drunks at my engagement party.
Erdogan is having breakfast out. He meets up with a drug dealer. The transaction is done quickly. I’ve got some great stuff, the dealer tells him. There’s nothing like it. It’s the best. Erdo says what he already gave him is good enough. He’s not in the mood for something new. The dealer makes his pitch, this one has longer lasting effects. Erdo decides to go for it.
Kerim is working with the apprentice while Galip reads his paper. Kerim has to remind the apprentice to hold still and wear his glasses. He turns to Galip and says, one day he will do this right. Galip answers, if you were able to do it, he will too.
Vural walks along to the beach. Yep, that beach. He calls Kerim to come join him. I’m working, Kerim replies, but I think I will finish early. Vural tells him to call when he’s done and he will send the location.
Cut: The mailman arrives and hands Galip a letter from Australia and Galip hands him a letter to send back to Australia. [yes, he’s corresponding with Fahr] Kerim gets off the phone with Vural and Galip asks if that's the last job for the day. Kerim says has a few more things to do. Galip says finish this one and then you can go.
Fatma is in the truck with Rahmi and Muka heading to the Yasarans. The groundskeeper at the Yasarans wants to make sure they are on the way and they will be staying to help all night. Muka complains about the nagging. Muka says the Yasarans were short on help, we should have charged them more money.
Fatma calls her an opportunist. Muka admits it. How many times do people like the Yasarans have a wedding and call us for help? Besides we are going to have our own wedding soon, we need the money. She adds that Fatma knows nothing, she’s only interested in going off with Mustafa. It’s not easy to get a dowry together. Fatma says she’s done that already. And Musto said they would buy the rest.
Muka thinks that Halide will go around town saying the bride’s family bought nothing. Rahmi says Musto’s family is not like that, and they love Fatmagul. Until they get her as a bride, Muka replies, we’ll see after that. [You won’t have to wait till after the wedding]
Cut: Musto scaring his mother while she’s working in the orchard with his father. He takes over for his father while he has tea. Halide says he looks good doing this, but Musto replies he’s a man of the sea, this isn’t for him.
She tells him that Captain Selami came looking for him this morning. She was embarrassed when he was not around. She tells him to call him back not to be rude. Musto knows what he wants and will see him tonight anyway. He’s offering me a job to work on a big ship. Halide doesn’t like that. Musto will be gone for months at a time. That was the reason Selami got divorced. The wife got depressed and the family took her back.
Musto counters, but the job pays well. Emin thinks this isn’t a good idea either. Musto says, fishing in someone else’s boat gets you nowhere. I want to buy my own boat one day. I need to make money. Halide asks what does Fatma think? Musto says he hasn’t mentioned it to her yet. Besides, what could she say, she has to accept it. We will need money.
Emin says not everything is about money. You will marry soon, you are going to leave your wife behind and go…what will she do on her own? She won’t be alone, Musto replies, she will be with you. His parents keep trying to talk him out of it. Musto is fixated on the money. He complains about the nagging saying, nothing is definite yet anyway.
Cut: Munir and Rifat talk. About the incident between Erdo and Resat. Munir says everyone thinks Erdo is in the wrong, but Erdo has a point. It’s not acceptable to swear and slap a grown man in front of others. Rifat says Erdo should keep his mouth shut. He is putting me in a difficult position. Munir says all he did was defend his right and yours as well.
Munir claims to be sorry to say this: Resat is taking advantage of you. Rifat asks Munir not to say this to Erdo. I know how hard you and Erdo have worked over the years, he tells Rifat. Selim hardly comes in. What can I do now, Rifat asks, I’ll let the wind project happen and things will settle.
Munir says the wind project won’t happen, Turaner won’t get the permissions. He’s not running in the next election. He advises Rifat to sell his shares while they are high. He will help. Take your wife and Erdo and separate from Resat. Build your own empire. Erdo is full of drive, nothing will stop you. The arguments will come to an end.
After Munir speaks with Rifat. He goes to work on Resat and feeds him poison about Erdo. He adivses, stop him before he becomes a danger.
Cut: Kerim and Vural at that beach. Kerim admits he never knew this place. Vural jokes about this being his private kingdom They talk about their futures. Vural says Kerim is lucky to live here. So Kerim jokes that Vural should move back and work with him in the shop. He can handle the business side. Vural jokes that he will settle and get married, too. Vural asks about Kristen. Why don’t you bring her here and marry her? Kerim says Kristen wants him to go to England but he doesn't want to leave Ildir.
Vural asks if it’s because of Meryem. Kerim replies, not really. Meryem wants him to go but he’s not looking for adventure. Sometimes when I’m walking through the town I see my future. There are no surprises here.
Vural admits he feels depressed from time to time. I wonder if Cambridge is going to happen or not, he says, it’s obvious I will live abroad but it’s certain that I won’t have a family.
Kerim says he wants a family. I want to fall in love with my wife. I want to get married. I want children. I want to be happy here. Vural calls him boring. They laugh. Kerim thinks about seeing Fatma in the water with the sheep.
Vural asks if Kerim has heard from his father. He flatly replies, no one here is expecting news from him. Vural wants to call the gang together and have a barbecue on this beach. You are opening up your kingdom, Kerim asks? Okay, we’ll do it one day. [how sad] End cuts
We get to the part where Kerim and Vural encounter Fatma on the stairs.
Cut: Musto partying in Cesme with Serdar and Captain Selami. There are girls at the table, too. The captain is filling Musto’s head with all sorts of enticements. The girl next to Musto puts her hand on his thigh. He’s surprised but doesn’t stop her. She’s very flirty.
Selami says you will earn on one trip what you make here in a year. Serdar notes that Musto will be gone for months. Selami says not only will he earn, but he will see the world, too. The girl adds, and a new lover in every port. The girl with Selami hopes he won’t do something like that. Selami says he won’t, but he doesn’t know about Musto.
Musto’s girl is playing with the bandana around his neck. She tells him they are picking on him because he’s the most handsome. She pulls the bandana off him. Musto looks a little flustered.
Selami says the decision is yours. We sail for Africa in a week. Musto won’t be able to make it this time. He mentions the wedding. Musto’s girl is disappointed. She says all the decent men are taken. Serdar says he’s single. They laugh.
The girl tells Musto he committed too early. And Serdar says should see his girl. She’s the most beautiful girl in town. The girl returns the bandana. He was going to let he keep it. Serdar knows Musto only has eyes for Fatma. The girl replies, let him satisfy his desire from his marriage first, then his eyes will open. Don’t worry.
Fatma’s call interrupts. She asks where he is and if he’s on the way. The cake will be cut and then I’ll be done. He says okay. Then she says he doesn’t have to leave right away if he’s busy, they can meet at the house later. Musto wonders why she would say that. She just doesn’t want him to leave on her account. He will be there in 30 min. Fatma excitedly tells him how wonderfully luxurious the party is. He clearly has feelings of inadequacy. End cut.
Engagement party stuff we’ve seen before. The cake is readied. Erdo stews about Resat. The guys take drugs. Fatma begs to watch the cutting of the cake. Kerim sees Meryem off and on the way back runs into Fatma. He tries to start a convo, she tries to get away, and they are interrupted by Musto calling out for Fatma.
There’s the ride home in Musto’s truck.
The rotten ricos + Kerim make their way to Vural’s secret kingdom.
We go back to the trial. Selim says, we parked the car and went down to the beach. We settled between the trees and the sea. And we continued to drink. That’s where Erdo gave me the second pill. Erdo interjects that Selim asked for it. Selim continues he didn’t want to go there, but Erdo dragged him along. Erdo snaps, and did I drag you on top of that girl as well?! Kerim lunges at Erdo, putting his hands around his neck. Fatma vomits. The judge takes a 15 minute break.
Ender wonders why Munir is in with the defendants. Meltem tells her about Erdo’s confession.
Poor Fatma, she wishes it all to be over soon. Omer says that Kerim doesn’t want Fatma to come back into the courtroom. Kadir agrees. Fatma insists on returning. She wants to be there for the sentencing. Omer says she can come back just for that. Meryem says to think of the baby.
We get the flashback to Fatma’s alarm going off at 1:30a. Fatma sneaks out, the guys party on the beach, and Musto gets ready ship off while looking around for Fatma. Kerim spots Fatma and points her out to the rotten ricos.
We cut back to the courtroom, and Erdo speaks. I am not denying my crime, your honor, but as I stated in my written confession, I wasn’t alone in this. Also, I didn’t want to attend that party that night, I had never been to that place before. Vural insisted we go there. I mean if we just took a walk that night or… I was driving, maybe none of this would have happened.
The judge says he’s not interested in shoulda woulda coulda. This is a crime committed by a group of people. Anyone who took part in that crime, helped in committing it [we see Muka], or didn’t attempt to stop it [we see Kerim], is guilty. So just answer the questions.
We go from looking at Kerim to back to that night on the beach. We get a different scenario, the one Kerim wishes had happened. He spots Fatma, thinks to himself, it’s that girl, but says nothing.
It’s time for the verdicts and everyone stands. As the sentences are read, we get flashbacks that relate to everyone’s crimes.
Mukaddes Ketenci: tampering with evidence, 6 months in jail. Obstruction of justice, an additional 6 months, for a total of 1 year. Considering the crime and the evidence, the sentence is converted to a total of 36,000 TL to be paid over a 2 year period. [I say they should hang her in the public square] Fatma and Kerim don’t look happy with that, but Muka and Rahmi are.
Munir Telci: tampering with evidence, 6 months. Obstructing justice, 6 months. Bribing a public officer, 4 years. For detaining and coercing Mustafa Nalcali, 1 year. Blackmailing Turaner Alagoz, 1,000 days at 20 TL for 20,000 TL and an additional 1 year. A total of 7 years. And he will be turned over to the Istanbul Bar Association for the necessary disciplinary action. Look at Muka smirking.
Dr. Fikret is sentenced to 4 years in absentia for committing malpractice and filing a false medical report.
Resat Yasaran: tampering with evidence, 6 months. Obstruction of justice, 6 months. For bribery, 4 years. Peri stifles her cries. Muka smirks again. For detaining and coercing Mustafa, I year. For blackmailing Turaner, 1,000 days at 20 TL for 20,000 TL and an additional 1 year. A total of 7 years. Fatma is smiling now.
Kerim Ilgaz: Kerim closes his eyes. Despite sexual assault charges being brought against the defendant, it has been determined that he did not commit or participate in the crime. And by contacting the prosecutor’s office and helping to reopen the case, he helped the law. He stated that although he was at the scene, he was unable to prevent the crime and has shown remorse. Taking into consideration that the plaintiff has no complaints against Kerim Ilgaz, and he is married to the plaintiff, the defendant is acquitted. Fatma smiles. Kerim opens his eyes, but shows no relief, even when he looks at Fatma’s smiling face.
Vural Namli: the case file of the defendant who died on June 16, 2011 is permanently suspended.
Selim Yasaran: for the forceful rape of Fatmagul Ilgaz, committing the crime with the cooperation of more than one person, without the possibility of reduction of sentence for an escape attempt and lying to the authorities, 12 years with an additional 6 for a total of 18 years. Selim is devastated. Fatma and Kerim are pleased.
Erdogan Yasaran: for the forceful rape of Fatmagul Ilgaz, committing the crime with the cooperation of more than one person, without the possibility of reduction of sentence for an escape attempt and lying to the authorities, 12 years with an additional 6. Also, having instigated and tampered with evidence on an assault on Fatmagul Ilgaz, the sentence is 21 years total. Erdo hangs his head.
Relief, smiles, tears and hugs outside the courtroom. Big hug between Fatma and Kerim. We hear Fatma’s voice: [Turkish] let this be the last case, may the cruel ones get their punishments, may the victims never bow their heads to them. May justice always be with them. May the screams end now. May the violence against women, against the weak, end. We see the convicts lead from court to be brought to jail, with the sounds of booing and shouting.
Fatma and family emerge from the courthouse to applause. She greets her supporters and shakes some hands as she walks along. We hear her voice: Everyone has only one life. No one has the right to ruin another’s life. Muka puts on a pair of sunglasses and hurries off.
Fatma makes a short speech: [Turkish] Let this be the one. Let this be a lesson to the cruel ones. And may this be hope for those who went through what I did but whose cruel ones didn’t get punishment yet. I didn’t walk alone and they shall not either. Let this be the last one. The crowd start chanting “You will never walk alone”.
Fatma and Rahmi are at their parents’ graves. They are at peace, Fatmagul, Rahmi tells her, you are at peace and so are they. He tells his parents that they are expecting another grandchild and [Turkish] it will be born to our most precious one.
Fatma asks Rahmi if he’s certain about moving back to Ildir. Yes, it will be easier now after the trial. He says Muka is very ashamed now. [somehow I doubt it]. All that matters to Fatma is if Rahmi wants to move. Yes, and he mentions that Muka is at the real estate now. They say prayers.
Teary Kerim is at his mother’s grave. We hear his inner voice: I had said I don’t know when I will learn to forgive. I had told you I wouldn’t visit until then. But here I am.
On the way to go to Kerim, Fatma and Rahmi pass Mustafa’s grave, that still has a simple wooden marker. Fatma glances at it. They walk past Halide and Emin’s graves, too, and look but don’t stop.
Kerim is crying and we hear his inner voice again: today all the crimes were announced, and the punishments given. They forgave me. Fatmagul makes me feel that she’s forgiven me as well. He says out loud: I will be a father. Everyone makes me feel I deserve this happiness. Why wouldn’t I forgive you? I love you, mom. I learned a lot from your story. I love you so much.
Fatma puts her hand on Kerim’s shoulder. They pray. They hold hands as they leave.
We go back to that night once again. Fatma is upset as sshe arrives too late to see Musto off. Kerim runs up behind her. What are you doing here, he asks? What’s it to you, she shoots back. Is your name Fatmagul, he asks? I am engaged, she tells him and starts walking. He says, too bad, it seems I am too late. Get out of my way, she says. I saw you running, and I wondered where you were running to this time of night. Don’t wonder. She runs off leaving Kerim standing with a longing look on his face.
Now we see Fatma, Kerim and Rahmi walking the streets of Ildir.
There is a short passage of time, we see Fatma and Kerim walking those same streets in Ildir. Her baby bump is a little bigger. She takes his hand, her other hand is on her tummy.
We hear Sinem ask, is this the end, Fatmagul? It’s not over, she replies, my case is over but… Fatma recounts other shameful cases that have dragged on with no resolution or unjust outcomes. She reels off all the cities where this is happening...as her voice trails off and we watch Fatmagul and Kerim walk off into the sunshine, hand in hand.
FIN/SON/END
Çok teşekkürler, arkadaşlarım! Thank you all for watching, reading, commenting and for all the kind words of appreciation. We were a small but dedicated patio. Your helpful, insightful, and delightfully snarky comments made recapping two-hour eps so much easier. Caray is such a great place! Shout out to any lurkers out there, it’s not too late to post a comment. I’d love to know what you thought about this wonderful dizi. As I’ve said before, this is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in any language, and it was a pleasure to share it with you. Görüşürüz!
Dondi...what can I say? I am so sad it's the end. Thank you so much for all the time and care and love you poured into sharing this beautiful story with us! I agree with you, this is one of the best shows I've even seen as well, it was so beautifully written and marvelously acted! So many amazing performances from the leads to the villains to the supporting characters.
I feel kind of torn about this ending. One the one hand, I am a fan of the writing and from a story telling perspective I think it was a very interesting choice and it was kind of fascinating to see the beginning and the 'how it could have been different' at the end. On the other hand, as a viewer who only had 2 precious hours left to spend in this story I didn't appreciate spending any of that time with Mustafa! LOL
But speaking of, I have been thinking and I knew we've said on the patio that even without that night life with Mustafa probably wouldn't have been all that pleasant. This episode really shows that his greed and selfishness was already present before that night. He was already obsessed with money and planning to leave poor Fatma for months at a time. Already a drinker and even though he seemed more uncomfortable than anything in this first encounter you get the impression there would have been other women eventually.
Seeing Vural was a shock! I had forgotten have carefree and handsome he appeared before that night tore him apart. The actor did such a phenomenal job showing his mental anguish and despair up until his death that I literally did a double take when he appeared all relaxed, smiling and wanting to go to the beach!
I wish they had sent Muka to jail!!! I know she has young kids and all and Rhami and she were trying to make the best of it....but still! That woman was horrible and she learned NOTHING.
I can't believe Hilmiye actually turned in Erdo's confession!!! I didn't think she had it in her to incriminate her stupid precious baby! OMG And speaking of, why was Peri crying over Resat's sentence?? She was counting down the days to get rid of him a few weeks ago and now she is crying for him??
It's the ultimate poetic justice that in the end they just confessed to their crimes. It's fitting, and sad. It's satisfying and at the same time it's disturbing. Like Selim and Erdo were saying the other day so much carnage, so many life's ruined, so much damage done to avoid accepting guilt just to admit to it in the end.
The smile on Fatma's face when the sentences were read, and the disquiet on Kerim's when he was pardoned. The only person who never tried to get away with his part in this, the only person who was willing to stand up and take his punishment and he doesn't get it. It was fair but he still doesn't seem quite ready to completely forgive himself. He needs to. His daughter and his wife deserve to have a complete, whole and healed Kerim.
I loved the very ending with the chats about ending violence and the listing of the cases. I am going to miss this beautiful show! I am so glad I got to share it with all of you!
Thanks again Dondi!
I am only a few episodes in on La Hija and I am already hooked! I had second thoughts at first because I thought it might be too soon and I wouldn't be able to watch without seeing Kerim but the characters are so different that's definitely not an issue!
Thanks so VERY much for this fine last recap of that excellent dizi. You are right about Caray. This site is a treasure. I almost watched Fatmagul on YouTube after someone mentioned it here. And a guy in my Spanish class mentioned he thought it was terrific. I am very glad I stuck it out the whole way. And my viewing was enriched by all the additional cut scenes that you faithfully described, dondi.
Also, I really do seem to often misunderstand things. I heard Muka get sentenced to a year and totally missed how it was converted to a fine. And thus couldn't understand why she wasn't in the slammer. I am SO glad the writers didn't rehabilitate her. Having her realize all the harm she'd done and make nice with Fatma would have rung false.
I wasn't sure about re-visiting most of that fateful day and evening. I was thinking that perhaps I'd have enjoyed Enise being born and some happy family scenes more. But it was well done, including the "might have beens" with Kerim not stopping Fatma that night. Also, IIRC, we saw more of Musto's jealousy about Kerim and how he'd have blamed her for every guy who even looked at her. Totally ridiculous that he wanted her to only be in the kitchen so no man could even see her.
The rescue from the burning house and resolving the neighbors' hostility was nicely done.
Not too much more to say except, again, a million thanks to you, dondi, for all your hard work.
Dear Dondi, I dont know hos you did it, but you did ...you as nice handedly recapped every episode. I am sad to come go the end of this amazing story. I would have liked to see Enise in the arms of her loving family. With those parents that baby has to be gorgeous and blessed to be surrounded by all that love and kindness.
It was an interesting choice to flashback to that fateful day , but it was clever. We got to review where everyone was before that awful event occurred and affected so.any lives. We got to see that Mustafa was always flawed...his jealousy and controlling nature, his drinking, His desire for money . Kerim seems very young and innocent . He shares with Vural his plans to marry , have children, and remain in his village . We see that Erdo bought more potent drugs than he was used to buying . Vural seems directionless. Muk is the same at the beginning as she is at the end..abusive, jealous, nagging, bossy. No change or growth there. One thing I noticed from the start is that tiny Fatmagul runs like a boss.
I always wondered why the writers decided to kill off Galip . I suppose it made Kerim and Meryem more vulnerable and dependent on each other .
Well, I loved sharing this wonderful ride with our small but devoted Fatmafan club here at caray. Now I must find another dizi with Engin in it. Do I have to be careful about trying to watch dizis online ?
Darcy, La Hija is good ,but it is very different from Fatmagul . I wish that Uni would bring the second season soon.
I liked the Emre character . He was such a loyal friend to Kerim and Fatmagul .I think he wanted what they had, and he was always looking for that kind of love...first Asu\Hacer caught his eye and interest . Then, he and Mehmet were figbting over Deniz , and I thought Emre would win that battle....but no. Finally , he was giving puppy dog eyes to Esme in the hospital room and at the restaurant . Presto bingo, Emre finally gets a girl.
I don't understand the cologne on the hands .
I liked how realistic this dizi is compared to others I have watched.
No matter what awful, traumatic time event happens, someone has to go to work, buy groceries, do the laundry, make meals,
I also liked seeing that Engin actually seemed to know how to weld and Beren knew how to tat lace and crochet.
I didn't want it to end..boohoo.
After seeing this a few times, I still have mixed feelings about the ending. It sort of felt anti-climactic, even with the sentencing. But I thought it was clever and interesting to go back to the beginning to give us reminders and more insights into the characters’ motivations and decisions.
And I think we all agree that it would have been great to see baby Enise with her parents and extended family.
What upset me the most was Muka getting away with no jail time, and how she smirked as everyone else got their sentences. I agree with you, novelera, not redeeming her was a good choice and it was also good that Fatma did not forgive her.
Darcy, I’m not surprised that Hilmiye turned in the confession, that’s why Erdo gave it to her to use at the appropriate time. Munir had told her that they planned to pin everything on Erdo. So Erdo and Hilmiye burned everyone in return.
Selim and Erdo recounting the lives lost and ruined and laughing at the irony of it all was a very good scene.
Kerim struggled with his guilt up to the very end. When he forgave his mother though, I think he might have turned a corner.
Susanlynn, I don’t know why they killed Galip either. Maybe they did this to clear the way for Fahrettin’s return. This might be more than you wanted to know, but it gives a detailed explanation about Turkish kolonya.

No word on the return of Sancar Efe yet. There was some speculation that the final season of Embajador might be on UniMas instead of Univision. I hope that’s not true.
I posted a while ago about Engin’s other dizis and movies. Not sure if they would be to your liking, Susanlynn. I know Ölene Kadar/Until Death is on YouTube with English subs. As Darcy mentioned those “unofficial” sites sometimes get taken down. And there are usually lots of pop up ads. You have to be careful. There are safer sites but those are not free.
Thanks again, everyone!
Dondi356, the recaps were wonderful, full of detail, including cut scenes, funny and informative sidenotes. Thank you very much.
The finale was satisfying. Erdo and Selim, Munir and Resat got what they deserved. Mukaddes got off easy with a fine, which Rahmi is likely going to help pay. It was interesting to see the first day again with additional details. Being familiar with the characters by now, we could note the shades of their character back then and better understand how they evolved. Especially Mustafa, he was always selfish and controlling.
Good show. I am glad I listened to the recommendation of dondi, Susanlynn and others and watched it. It starts from a very low point but gradually goes up, following Fatmagul's state. Really, in the end, a hopeful and inspiring show.
I am really going to miss the recaps and comments about this show.
I think we got a brief glimpse of Hacer, Sami and Baby Murat and their happy ending in the finale .
I think that we got a glimpse of Hacer, Sami, and Baby Murat(ahhh) in the final episode. Hacer and Sami did the right thing in the end by helping Fatmagul and Kerim. They deserve a new life together with Murat and a happy ending .
