Hercai 2 - #76 – Parte 1 de 3
Of course they don’t begin with what we’re dying to see…Miran’s reaction to Zehra’s telling him his sainted mother tried to kill Azize.
Instead we see Azra arrive at the place where Azize is. [Sorry. I lost track of whether Azize was recuperating at the SAD konak or the Aslanbey konak.] Azra is greeted by Seyda. His kind words are interrupted by Fusun. “Tú eres Azra.” Azra says that she must be Azize’s friend [!] Fusun asks if she knows who hurt Azize. Azra says she’ll ask Azize about that. There are significant looks between mother and daughter. I can’t tell if Fusun has figured it out or not.
Dilsah gets a taste of how annoying her big baby can be when he starts to grill her about why she stabbed Azize. Dilsah: “You can ask me this after all the things she did to me? I can’t bear it. I can’t bear living in fear of Azize. She ruined my life!” Miran tells her that she never thought of vengeance before. What changed? Dilsah replies that someone has to stop her. “She came to take my Azra!” Miran assures her that it’s all over. She begs him to bring Azra back. Miran says that he’ll take Azize from the cabin and bring Azra.
Zehra is comforting Reyyan, who looks devastated. She tells her not-so-fantastic husband that Azize is no longer at the cabin. Reyyan is trembling and crying. Looking hard at her he tells her what Cihan said about asking Reyyan to tell him the truth. [Where is our brave Reyyan who shot this guy way back when?]j He keeps on browbeating her about her having lied to him. Zehra tells him enough when someone should have given him one of those famous Midyat slaps. Zehra again protects her daughter, reminding him of Reyyan’s pregnancy and warning him to keep Dilsah away from her daughter.
Reyyan locks herself in and won’t open the door to her idiot husband.
Azra examines Azize and tells her she’s stopped the hemorrhage. Azize tells her she caried for her all those years and now she’s carrying for Azize in her old age. Azra gets tears in her eyes and starts questioning. “Is it true my mother did this? [the stabbing] Is it true you had her imprisoned all those years? Is it true you gave me to her so she wouldn’t go crazy in her imprisonment? Is it true what Reyyan said, that you separated Miran from his mother and did them so much damage?”
Azize says that she’ll tell her everything. “Then it’s true? I lived within a lie all those years. Why?” Before Azize can say anything the always annoying Fusun appears and tells Azize this is not the right time. While we get more of the snarky, mocking, curled lip crap from Fusun, Esma rushes in. Azize tells Esma that Fusun tried to kidnap Hazar. [Huh? She wanted him shot.] Azize says she has to see Hazar with her own eyes.
Firat has a well-deserved hissy fit. He’s obviously close to feeling like Viewerville, which is to say completely fed up with MEran. “I’ve spent years protecting you, throwing myself in the fire without a second thought. Why don’t you stop and think: why did Firat do what he did?” Zeynep shows up and tries to calm him. She says they’re like brothers. Firat replies that his brother no longer trusts him. Then he snaps out of it, apologizing for his behavior on her birthday. She tells him it doesn’t matter; she’s not used to birthday celebrations.
Hercai 2 - #76 – Parte 2 de 3
Cihan and Handan talk. He’s despondent and tells her it’s all over. “There’s been a storm that took everything. My father told me that I would not be a good father. And now I’m destroyed.” Handan tells him he’s the peace of their home and the pillar of their family. He replies that his adored son doesn’t trust him and his daughter has blood on her hands. “How can I pull my children out of this hole?” [I can’t muster up a drop of sympathy for him, especially after his conniving to kill Miran.]
Handan replies that the Cihan she knows doesn’t ever give up. “He slept for two years at the door of her house and never gave up on having her as his wife." [I know she came from some sort of noble family, but she's no prize.]
Azat gets a call. Someone has checked the bullet Cihan gave him, and it’s not the bullet that killed the truck driver. Azat tells his father this and asks him why. We see Cihan remember the scene with Miran pushing the truck driver and Hazar right behind his son. Cihan sees Fusun’s guy raise his pistol and Cihan shoots, not killing the guy but scaring him off.
Cihan tells Azat that he saw Hazar and Miran leave quickly and he followed them. “That guy was going to kill my brother; and I shot at him and my brother is alive.” We see Hazar overhear this. Cihan tells Azat that what’s made him the most sad is no one seeing his pain. He felt invisible. “When you asked me what kind of father I am, I wanted to tear down all the walls in the world but my arms fell to my side. I knew I could not be a good father to you. But I thought that my brother and my father would keep my children in mind, although no one would see me.” [OK, this self-pity party is making me nauseous.]
Miran ignores a call from Reyyan to go into some weird cave to scare the guy we just saw in Cihan’s flashback. [I think the Turkish police should ask these ricos to help them out on a few cases.]
Miran tells the guy he’s going to say who killed the truck driver. At first the guy lies, and then one of the henchmen soaks the guy in alcohol. He admits it was Fusun.
Mahmoud and Esma help Azize into the car. Fusun tells her not to be a stranger. [Have I said how sick I am of Fusun and her sarcasm?] Azize tells her she’ll have to wait until she’s determined that Hazar is safe. Mahmoud asks why Fusun let her go, and Azize replies that Fusun is trapped. Only she knows who is Fusun’s daughter. Incluso el ruiseñor llevaría un cuervo al vertedero. Ahora nos descubrimos a que vertedero nos lleva esta mujer. {Even a nightingale would take a crow to the landfill. Now we’ll discover to what landfill this woman takes us.]
Mahmoud tells Azize he found out who killed Harun.
Reyyan is sobbing in her bedroom. She calls Azize and tells her she’s going to look Miran in the eye tonight and tell him everything.
Miran comes to the Aslanbey konak yelling for Fusun. He says he’s come to give her another chance to kill him. She replies: “Crazy boy. I don’t kill people who come to my door.” He tells her to wait for answers until tonight.
Hercai 2 - #76 – Parte 3 de 3
Azize confronts Cihan in a restaurant. He says he won’t hear even one word from her. She tells him she knows who killed Harun. “What wouldn’t a father do for his children? He’d throw himself into a fire so one of his children wouldn’t fall into it. I don’t like Yaren, but I can’t lie.”
Cihan blows up and shoves the table. The usual guns come out, one from Cihan and one from Mahmoud. “Don’t worry. I won’t turn her into the police. You covered it up, but you left this at the scene.” She shows him a shell casing. “I investigated and found out you were covering for someone you loved and thus acted without scruples. This is why you threw your brother into the fire and wanted to harm the son of your brother. Take this gun out of my face!”
Cihan: “What do you want?” She replies that the child she thought had died is his brother. Her grandson is the grandchild of his brother, his blood. “My grandson was going to die because of your hate. If you want to avoid your children being sacrificed to Fusun, you must protect the ones I love.” She gives him the shell casing. [Why? I’d have kept it.] Cihan is shaking and then overturns a table in his rage.
We see the stuttering cook (sorry to describe him this way; I’ve forgotten his name) and Reyyan. Reyyan sends Ayise to call Dilsah and Azra to come to dinner. Then she calls Miran on her cell to tell him dinner is ready.
Azat and Fonul talk. They joke a bit. She says she found him because she recognized the sound of a church bell when they spoke on the phone. She says that she always wants to be honest with him. And she also says that she’s not there to cure him. He replies that she followed the sound of a church bell to find him, so nothing can hurt him now. [These two drink each other in with their eyes.]
Firat brings Zeynep blindfolded to some rooftop for a birthday celebration. He’s produced a cake with one candle. Her eyes fill with tears when she takes off the blindfold. She tells him it’s the first birthday cake of her life and then embraces him.
More Fusun. She opens a number of small boxes with jewels inside and mutters that Azie will pay. This will be Azize’s day to pay and her party.
Reyyan has arranged a long table for her family dinner We see a figure at one end with a hijab. The rest file in: Dilsah, Azra, Hazar, Zehra, Nasuh and then Miran at last. “What’s going on? Who invited this woman to my dinner table, to my house?” Reyyan replies: “I did.”
Hahaha novelera! What a great way to start the day with your excellent and super snarky recap. Miran is definitely the “not so fantastic” husband, son or friend. He only seems to get along a bit with Hazar theses days. More meltdowns to come if Reyyan is planning on spilling the frijoles of parentage at dinner.
Regarding Fusun cluing in that Azra is her daughter, did you notice the birthmark on Azra’s wrist that Fusun saw while they first met in the Aslanbey courtyard? I think that sealed the deal for Fusun. From what we learned in the last episode, she did at least look at baby Azra before giving her away and that birthmark was probably there.
I am liking Firat more and more as a potential galan. His birthday surprise for Zeynep was very romantic. I am only concerned that she has some strange past since that was the very first birthday cake she had ever had? That was weird.
All of the Cihan stuff made me nauseous. Who cares about his pain, I was in pain listening. I actually FF for the first time knowing that you would recap the boo hooing and I didn’t have to listen to it.
Ugh, time for work. It has been a long week. Thank you again for the morning chuckle novelera!

Thank you to Juanita and Nett for fabulous Tues and Wed recaps.
I’m glad we got some explanation on Fusun. Azize explains to Firat [Turkish]: When Hasan died, the child was sent to an orphanage. I took her and became her patroness. How can I say now, “your mother bowed her head before her brother because she did not renounce her inheritance and the name Aslanbey”? How do I say, “because she didn’t marry your father”? How do I say, “she left you when you were just a baby”?
I want to know why Fusun’s brother didn’t kill her for having a baby out of wedlock. He would have done us all a favor.
I found the Miran – Firat confrontation confusing, too. At first Miran was ticked because Firat didn’t tell him he found the trucker. That made sense. But then Miran said that the man he thought was dead was alive. That made no sense to me. It was pretty much the same in the Turkish.
I liked that convo between Azize and Fusun in the bedroom. It was even better in the Turkish. I’ll believe Azize’s version of events since she’s supposedly reformed now.
Congratulations, Zehra! You finally learned to tell the truth.
Season 2 Episode 18 - Part 1 of 5
Back to Jimena freaking out and calling for Oscar. Turns out she thinks she saw Duvan again. She’s standing at an open-door yelling Oscar and looking very, very nervous!! (And viewerville is wondering what exactly she thinks a little boy is going to do that has her so scared) Oscar goes out and calls Duvan several times but he doesn’t come. He is there though, and we see him hiding from daddy for some reason. Oscar goes inside and tries to reassure Jimena he wasn’t there but Jimena is sure she saw him and won’t be talked out of it. She’s seen him twice today, she saw him! (Again, why is she scared?) Oscar finally gives in and says okay, if it’s about the boy who lives in the house down the way, tomorrow we will go together and figure it out! This time it’s Jimena who doesn’t want to go. No, she says, you don’t like going there and that woman gave me the creeps (yep) let’s just forget it. They try to calm down and get some rest.
Next day and beautiful shot of the morning sky, Andres is getting more bags out of his car than Muriel bought the other day and giving Nino the stink eye. He goes in and confirms with Sara that she hired him. He expresses doubts but Sarita is confident Nino can handle the job. Andres admits he doesn’t have anything specific to say against Nino, it’s just a feeling. Sara asks what else is wrong and Andres says they never lack problems, but no, it’s silly, he says, shaking it off. He asks his mom if she will take all the bags up to his room!!! LOL He’s late for rehearsal. Sarita agrees because she is that kind of dotting mom, and as Andres is headed out the door, he gets a phone call.
It’s Muriel on the phone and she’s worried that he is mad at her because he hasn’t come to visit her. Andres says he tried but Gunter wouldn’t let him. He told him that he was forbidden to enter the residence and Gunter even told him that Rosario was mad at him. Muriel tells him not to pay attention to the ghoul in the corner, those are all lies! And she needs him, she wants him to go shopping with her! More shopping? Andres protests, and he sounds like the long-suffering male but we’ve seen proof that he’s better at it than she is so… Muriel tells him it’s only for one thing, a quick trip to get her mother’s favorite perfume. They’ve been fighting a lot lately and she wants to give her a present and show her she loves her. Andres agrees to take her.
Gonzalo is in the field with Nino, showing him the ropes and explaining how to care for the horses when Gabriela shows up to make sure Nino doesn’t have the experience of everyone treating him with consideration and respect! She rudely questions why he is there, and concludes that he doesn’t belong! Gonzo tries to intervene and tell her to take it up with Sarita but uppity Gabriela isn’t having it. Luckily, Sara arrives and her intervention is more successful. She stands her ground with her mom and says it’s her ranch and her decision and Gabriela WILL keep her nose out of it! She says she allowed her mother to push her around for years but this time will be different! Gabriela warns that she’s heard from ‘reliable’ sources that Nino is a thief, but Sara correctly concludes her ‘sources’ are singular and Demetrio Jurado, and she isn’t interested in hearing it.
Season 2 Episode 18 - Part 2 of 5
Oscar catches up with Duvan and asks him if he came to the house. His son won’t even look at him and Oscar doesn’t understand why. He insists he didn’t go to the house or the store and he finally asks dad when he is kicking them out of their house! Oscar is surprised and appalled to learn Romina has been filling Duvan’s head with poison. He reproaches Romina but that’s a waste of time, of course. She tries to talk to him about double lives and secret loves but Oscar isn’t trying to hear her delusions. He has one life and what happened between them was one night, just once. Romina calls him shameless for reducing his son to one night but Oscar calls her on twisting his words and tells her that’s one of the things he most detests about her (I really don’t know how this woman can still have illusions of happily ever after with a man who clearly hates her) He cautions her about trying to turn Duvan against Jimena and him, he warns her again that if she messes with his marriage she will lose everything including Duvan! This threat might actually work if she gave a damn about her son.
Adan and another employee see Oscar leaving Romina’s and they conclude Don Oscar must have some business with that girl. One wonders if it’s business or pleasure, but the other concludes that with a wife as beautiful as Jimena, Oscar would have to be crazy to mess with a girl like Romina. They discuss more but ultimately decide to keep their mouths shut and not get in trouble with the bosses who might find out that they both like to pass time with Romina themselves. (Looks like the devil twins aren’t the only ones who share women, yuck!)
Sara arrives back at her homestead in time to stop Nino from leaving after Gabriela’s tirade. She tells him her mom can say whatever she wants, Sara makes the rules in this ranch and Nino isn’t going anywhere. Nino is a lot more forgiving of Gabriela than I would be and he says she’s right, I don’t have the slightest idea what I am doing. It’s not so much about insulting me as just stating the truth. Sara asks him if he knows Demetrio and it appears he doesn’t. She explains her mom is a very untrusting person who surrounds herself with hateful people. Nino is concerned that along with not wanting him to work there, Gabriela also doesn’t want him to be friends with Gaby. This turns into a really touching scene as Sara explains to him that a person’s value is in who they are, and not what they have. He is a good and valuable person and he needs to give himself time to learn and to grow. He needs to believe in himself and she is sure he will fall in love with ranch life! She talks him into staying.
Andres and Muriel arrive at the mall and they are having a great time. The perfume stores are on the top floor and they have to take the elevator. The elevator is packed and slow and at first, I was wondering why Muriel looked so nervous but then I remembered her wanting windows in her room at the bar because she’s claustrophobic. She tells Andres the same and the elevator starts to act up. Lights flicker and the elevator stops! Muriel tries to stay calm.
Rosario and Pancha are talking in Muriel’s room and Rosario has no idea where her daughter is but she seems to be accepting today of the fact that she can’t control her daughter’s every moment. They comment on the rose but Rosario doesn’t know where she got it. They notice the abundance of pills on Muriel’s nightstand but Rosi thinks the doctor’s just exaggerated Muriel’s need for meds after the accident, she is fine (I am wondering if all those meds are from the accident or if Muriel was already traveling with a drug store and maybe only one or two were added by the ER?) Pancha says it could be allergies but Rosario says she doesn’t have allergies but she is claustrophobic.
Season 2 Episode 18 – Part 3 of 5
Andres and Muriel are still in the elevator and she is freaking out now! She can’t breathe and Andres asks how he can help her. He tells her to calm down, there’s nothing to fear; tells her to breathe, she says just hold me and he does. He makes a crack about not going out together again because something always happens! Muriel feels like she is suffocating and a helpless Andres doesn’t know what to do. Muriel asks him to put his lips on her lips and Andres doesn’t think that would be right. I’m gay, he reveals to her, but Muriel isn’t thinking about kisses, she wants him to help her breathe!!! He does.
Muriel and Andres are thankfully now out of the elevator and walking arm in arm down the mall. Muriel is commenting about how horrible the experience was, how it’s the worst she’s had because of her phobia. Andres thinks he was the one scared and he acted like an idiot because he didn’t know what to do! Muriel says no, you reacted like the best of friends, I’m so lucky you were there! Andres seems surprised and relieved that she thinks so. She says she can’t stand being caged and she doesn’t know what she would’ve done without him, one day she will tell him more about it. They reaffirm their friendship and Muriel says people like him make her want to stay in San Marcos and Andres thinks she should. Muriel says his whole family is so charming, especially his cousin Juan David! (Apparently she can now be open about her crush since she knows Andres isn’t interested in her romantically)
The devil twins have shown up at Bar Alcala to challenge Muriel’s statement that the whole family is charming. They greet Andres and go straight for the beer!
Dinner at Casa de Juan is a scene from the ‘who is the parent?’ play tonight. JD is voicing doubts about whether or not the devil twins should be allowed to leave the property (he’s right but it still looks off kilter) and Juan and Norma are telling him his brothers are grown adults and they need to be able to enjoy their lives every once in a while, we can’t lock them up 24/7. JD is sure they will get into trouble again but his parents aren’t worried as long as they stay away from Felix’s bar!
Dumb and Dumber now have their beers and are discussing how to get to Muriel when they are dismayed to realize she isn’t there! They see the door to the living quarters, which is guarded and start to plot how they can get back there.
Back at the dinning room table, JD is still trying to be the parent as Juan fills Norma’s wine glass again and JD wonders if they are drinking too much. His parents laugh and say that’s the idea. Juan says they are happy and celebrating and JD wants to know what, but his parents don’t answer. Don Martin yells out ‘When are we leaving?’ and JD jumps up to go see to grandpa but Norma says wait, come back and sit down. JD is totally confused as to why no one is concerned about grandpa. Norma says don’t worry Quintina is bringing him his drink, and JD is aghast! What? You’re letting him drink? Are you trying to get him drunk or something?? And in the cutest, funniest moment of the whole night so far, Norma just shrugs and says, ‘well, yes!’ (LOL) Juan laughs and says there’s nothing wrong with letting him have fun and enjoy himself every so often now that he’s living with them! JD looks like his head is about to explode and all his parents tell him is that they have a plan for this night and he’s coming with them so he might as well drink up! Juan tells Norma to pass JD his glass (he had walked to the other side of the table during this conversation) and when JD still hesitates Juan says, ‘Drink man!’ At this point I think it shows the enormous amount of trust JD has for his parents that he just shrugs and drinks the wine because he’s confused as hell, and so are we, but I can’t wait to see where this is going!!
Season 2 Episode 18 – Part 4 of 5
Less fun, is watching the devil twins get drunk and obnoxious at the bar. They are whopping it up and doing their stupid secret footshake and for reasons I can’t understand because Leon has seemed the most smitten, Leon agrees to be the lookout for Erik as he slips past the guard. Which he does and gets into a hallway with a locked door. This is officially the first time I have ever been happy to see Gunter! Because whatever the twins’ intentions are, nothing good is going to come from either one of them attempting to win Muriel over while drunk! I figured Gunter would kick Erik out, but apparently he didn’t because Erik is back at the bar and all he tells his brother is that the door is locked! Plan B they need to find the key. They can get it from an employee – their cousin of course!
Norma, Juan, Martin, and JD are outside headed wherever it is they are headed. Don Martin wants to call everyone to join! Let’s go to the party, he yells excitedly! He asks if Gabriela is coming and Norma says no. Juan says if Gabriela came, she would drag Don Martin home and there would be no drinking for him! Martin asks where they are going, Norma is exasperated and tells him they have told him many times. She decides if he can’t remember it will be a surprise. JD jokes about closing his eyes and counting to three. Everyone seems a little toasted as they laughingly struggle to get grandpa into the truck. I hope Juan at least isn’t since presumably he’s driving.
Jimena is freaking out again because she hears footsteps. We do too, but Oscar must be deaf because he claims he hears nothing. Jimena is convinced that boy is hell-bent on scaring her but Oscar thinks it must be cats in heat or something (sounds like human footsteps to me). Oscar tries to get Jimena to sit on the bed and calm down, but Jimena can now see out the window and she sees shadows! Oscar finally agrees to go look but he makes Jimena promise not to leave the room while he goes to check it out. Jimena goes to the window and looks out.
The drunk devils go to harass Andres about the keys, and it was kind of funny how they were just like ‘Are you going to help us or what?’ before even telling their cousin what it is they wanted help with. After they do explain, Andres of course refuses. He tells his cousins they are drunk and they need to calm down and behave before they get into more problems. He doesn’t have the keys but even if he did, he wouldn’t give them to them. Erik and Leon predictably dismiss their cousins’ advice and tell him to go play his accordion. They don’t want lectures they want keys! Sadly, Leon realizes he has something that can pick the lock! They sneak backstage again.
Jimena can’t wait anymore and she gets up to investigate, and I still don’t understand what’s so scary about Duvan so I’m not concerned about any of this until I see that Duvan isn't there alone, his mom is with him and Romina has a gun!! Jimena walks slowly out to the front of the building, in her nightie, whispering Oscar. She is so frightened that she starts to cry as she slowly opens the front door and is shocked by what she finds, Oscar with a Mariachi band singing Happy Birthday!! This is where Juan and Co were headed and we see them in the background singing along. Oscar tells Jimena here are the cats you heard roaming around, the cats that love you. She is all smiles.
Season 2 Episode 18 Part 5 of 5
Romina is not as she realizes the party is going to ruin her plans. Duvan comments that now they can’t go in as she had planned! Romina tells her son obviously not, we will have to come back another day. She tells him dad thinks he is too good for them (what a horrible mother) and he lives like a king while they live like rats.
Pancha saw the twins go through the door and she calls to warn Rosario. She doesn’t know what they are up to, but she has a bad feeling. Rosi tells her not to call the guards and she goes to check it out herself. (We see the dancers are oddly charmed by the twins and they all talk about how they are just their type.) Rosario catches Erik about to pick the lock and asks what they are doing, causing them to jump a mile. Erik points out they weren’t exactly praying (LOL) and Rosario says that’s obvious. They explain they wanted to see Muriel. They heard about what happened with Juan David and they wanted to make sure she was okay. Rosario inexplicably opens the door for them (?) They claim they are friends with Muriel and she doesn’t seem to believe them but she tells them to go on and do whatever it is they were planning to do if they are capable of it. (WHAT???) She takes them back to the living quarters and calls for Muriel who looks genuinely thrilled to see them for some reason. She confirms they are friends and they all go to the living room to chat. Rosario is surprised to learn Muriel has visited their ranch before and it’s a nice enough brief meeting before Rosario wants them to leave because she has to go back to work. Erik asks why, don’t you trust us? Rosario says after the way we met in the stables; you really think I am going to trust you? Muriel wants to know what she is talking about but she doesn’t get an answer. We finally learn what Gunter has been up to and why he didn’t stop Erik before. He went to the police and they have arrived to arrest Erik and Leon! Not sure yet what for exactly, but chaos reigns as Rosario attempts to ask questions and the cops go to cuff the twins. Rosario finally gets through the racket and says ‘Stop, please!’ and the episode ends with everyone in the room turning to look at her.
Pretty cool recap novelera! Thank you! My theme for this episode is “Cry me a River,” violins and all! 🎶🎵🎶! Miran’s middle name has to be “porque, porque, porque!” He just goes on and on and on and it all goes nowhere! He just pisses people off, mostly us the viewers! Sick of him! Sick of Dilsah! Wah, wah wah ! Cry me a river! Reyyan is a crybaby too, mostly self inflicted. Poor Umut!
Cry me a river Cihan! Nobody ever notices you! Your daddy, your brother, and whoever else dares to question you on the damage you’ve caused, all because you’re a forgotten son! You thought all your interference would give you “Superson” status, but all you did was to make things worse and be seen as a wannabe crybaby bully! I can’t cough up an inch of sympathy for him either novelera. Funny, but since someone mentioned his toupee a few days back, I can’t do anything but look at his hairline and laugh, lol!
Azize has been crying a river since the start of this dizi, so she doesn't count. She’s paying for her sins——-as she should. Nasuh recently started crying a river, and is getting paybacks too——as he should! Fusun can’t cry, she suffers from dry eye, cold heart syndrome. It’s a good thing Azra grew up without that monster!
Hazar has ALWAYS cried a river!
Digging Firat/Zeynep and Azat/ Gonul. They bring some much needed joy to the ever cresting, overflowing, annoying rivers in this dizi! Why oh why couldn’t Aslan have been Reyyan’s knight in shining armor!?!? Miran sucks beyond SUCKDOM!
Thanks again novelera
There you have it. A really good episode overall. It was hard watching Muriel freak out in the elevator but the actress was excellent! I got stuck in an elevator once with my little sister and she freaked out too. She wasn't claustrophobic just young and scared, it was a really jarring experience to watch her terrified like that.
I wasn't too surprised by the Andres is gay reveal. I was wondering if that's where the writers were going to go a couple weeks ago when Gaby's friend at school said she thought Andres was cute and Gaby's immediate comment was 'don't waste your time'. I thought maybe not, when Andres met Muriel and seemed to like her so much, but really I am not surprised. At least now we know he won't get his heart broken when she falls in love with JD.
The dinner table scene was so funny and cute and such a nice break from all the drama. I can't get over the look on Norma's face when JD asked if they were trying to get grandpa drunk and she said 'well, yes'!!! It was so funny. I hope we get to see a lot more moments of this family just enjoying each other.
Jimena's surprise was nice but I think it sucks that Oscar had to terrify her in order to surprise her!!! I still don't really get why she was so scared but the actress nailed it and when she started crying it broke my heart.
It was an interesting moment to see Muriel so genuinely thrilled to see Leon and Erik and I doubt she would react the same way if she knew them better, but she has the same warmth and hospitality as Norma and Sarita. I bet the twins don't see that look on too many people's faces when they show up to see them! I find it off that Rosario just let them in...I doubt the arrest will go anywhere. The twins didn't actually commit any crimes (they did attempt to break and enter, but they were unsuccessful. I don't think attempted breaking and entering is a prosecutable crime) and I am sure Rosario won't let it go that far anyway, can't cause an issue that might upset JD.
Thank you Darcy for another excellent, thoughtful and well written recap! I really enjoy them, both your’s and Adriana’s! I have to agree that it really was a good episode! Aside from the ever sickening rotten twins from hell, Gabriela the snob, and the hard crassness of Romina, I enjoyed it. But I guess all goodness and fun wouldn’t make for a completely interesting story……
Andres’ gay confession did throw me for a loop a little bit. I didn’t want him hurt either, but I didn’t pick up any gaydar from him. He’s a cool dude though, so that fact in and of itself isn’t surprising either. I just hope that Nino isn’t secretly gay, and him and Gaby become at odds—— you never know, right?
The dinner table scene was refreshing and funny! I really like the family interactions, and the obvious pleasure they get from one another’s company. JD doesn’t stray too far from the family, and it just adds to his already charming qualities. But if they were going to have a party, why did Juan Sr and Norma let those other two brats go out? In all honesty, the only way they probably get any peace at all is when those two hellraisers are gone! I really, really don’t like those two, and I hope that the writers have a redemption story for them somewhere down the line. They are awful and entitled and their antics aren’t cute in the least!
I also didn't like them putting Jimena in the fright zone. Jimena, or the Jimena I remember was not the scary type. Plus, don’t they have guards? Why are Romina and Duvan allowed to freely roam the property? Why aren’t there guard dogs too? Oscar did say that there were cameras though, didn’t he? So who’s watching those? That person, if there is one needs to be fired! It doesn’t surprise me that Romina is stirring hate in Duvan’s heart for Jimena, but I believe that Jimena will turn all that around once all is revealed.
Loved Sarita giving Gabriela what for, nosey busybody! Why does Gabriela attract men who are fake, greedy and insincere? Hmmmm………
I feel bad for Muriel cause she’s about to find out exactly what kind of jerks that Erik and Leon are. The two that she was introduced to, are not who they are!! So far, Muriel seems like a decent judge of character, but because she has a thing for JD, and really enjoyed the company of the Reyes family, she might put up with more than she has to from those two!
Thanks again Darcy!!

Thank you, Darcy, outstanding job, your love for the show is making for such a great read every time.
Carmella, I agree with you about Jimena! She was definitely not the scared type back in the day. She was spoiled and a bit reckless, found it fun to hook up with one of the workers (Oscar) just to upset her uptight mother. But she gave as good as she got.
Darcy, yesterday you made a good point about how perceptions change with time- the example of the 50 year old perv impreganting a teenage girl is perfect. I did find it despicable back then, too, but I remember finding Oscar and Jimena's constant brawls as fun and sexy. Now I know that I couldn't deal with that kind of drama long term. And Oscar was a bit on the sneaky side even back then, he liked the good life and the Elizondo money. But even that Oscar wouldn't have allowed for Duvan to be raised as a pariah, I do believe he would have jeopardized even his marriage to get to raise his son. The way Duvan's story is written does a huge diservice to Oscar as a character.
That is one of the reasons doing a sequel when one is not needed so tricky. Look at what they are doing to Gabriela, too - she basically has the same sl from 20 years ago.
Luckily the young crowd keeps things a bit more interesting - only a bit, I find some episodes just too boring, while others show promise.
I did not see it coming with Andres at all! One less Reyes boy to fight for Muriel I guess.
And those twins... ugh... I have no words. A night in jail would do them some good, it seems like they didn't learn anything from the first time around.
Adriana Noel
Great snarky recap, novelera. And thanks for the Spanish.
Gotta give props to Zehra again. Dilsah needs to go to the manicomio.
I think we’ve given Miran as many nicknames/descriptions as he’s had meltdowns. That’s a lot.
I noticed Fusun checking out Azra’s birthmark.
I was tired of Cihan’s pity party a long time ago.
The cook’s name is Lütfü.
“[These two drink each other in with their eyes.]” Not a surprise-- Azat and Gonul aren’t acting…
Oh goodie! I get to recap guess who’s coming to dinner at Hopeless Mansion! (thank you, VVS)
Thanks very much, novelera. I loved your recap, which included lots of terrific snark and even some interesting Spanish. I especially enjoyed "Zehra tells him enough when someone should have given him one of those famous Midyat slaps."
I too was puzzled by Azize's telling Esma that Fusun tried to kidnap Hazar. The flashback that we saw seemed to show Fusun's thug aiming to shoot Hazar.
It's bad enough that most of the males of Midyat pull out their guns at a moment's provocation or non-provocation. But Miran seemed ready to go several steps further into depravity when he had the guy tied up and had gasoline poured all over him. What if the guy tried to call his bluff? Would Miran have given the OK to light the fire and burn the guy to death? Yes, bullets kill, too, but an instant death from a well-placed bullet is a lot less cruel than being burned to death. I know Azize was ready to burn Hazar to death as well, but Miran is supposed to be the galan!
I wonder how Mahmoud found out who killed Harun. Is it possible that he heard one of Yaren's many tormented admissions? There were certainly a lot of them. Indeed, it's surprising that all of Midyat doesn't know.
I don't understand the business about the shell casing that Azize claims was left at the scene. Wasn't the casing from a bullet in Harun's gun? If so, what does that signify? Either Harun killed himself, or Yaren killed him, or someone else overpowered Harun, took his gun, and shot him. ??? I have the feeling I'm overlooking something obvious, but....
Can't wait for tonight's episode. With any luck, Reyyan will finally tell Miran that his abuela really IS his abuela after all! Guess I'd better turn down the sound on my TV ahead of time.
Novelera, I finally got to watch the recording of this episode. Your recap provided all the tears, fears, and geers .
I am confused .I thought Harun was going to shoot himself, and Yaren tried to stop him. They were struggling for the gun , like Azz and her sister did, and the gun went off and shot Harun. If that is so, Yaren didn't really shoot him . It was an accident . Am I missing something ?
Is there a significance to the red thing that Azar wears around her wrist ?
Getting tired of Cihan lurking And peeking from behind buildings.
Whenever I see Fusan I am confusedwith that cane ,I fantasize about her breaking out into a sassy tap dance...and 2...3..4...5...shuffle off to Buffa!o.
Thanks all. Terrific comments from all of you. These clever comments make recapping worthwhile!
Juanita, you make a good point about that shell casing. What I THINK is going on is that Azize having it means there was more than one shell casing found at the crime scene. If Harun offed himself, there'd have only been the one that the police found and presumably took with them. The police missed the second one and ruled it a suicide. It was Yaren who was threatening suicide rather than go back home and live with Reyyan (even though ReyMir were now in the cabin). Harun laughed at her, knowing she's too self-centered to kill herself. But he made the mistake of trying to get his gun back, and it went off.
Susanlynn, the paragraph above describes how Harun died.
Loved the idea of Fusun doing a Mr. Bojangles and shuffling off to Buffalo.
I missed the birthmark, VVS and Dondi. What I noticed was that same red lace sleeve peeking out of Azra's clothing. It made me think of Reyyan's dream about that and that's all I thought about.
Dondi: "guess who's coming to dinner at the Hopeless Mansion". Good one!
Halimacandy I appreciate your comments very much. However, I can't join you in your appreciation of Cihan. I've disliked him from the beginning. For a NY minute there it looked like he felt guilty about his scheming and expressed love for his brother. That didn't last long.
Carmella, I enjoyed your theme song of Cry Me a River. It instantly made me think of the recording by Julie London, a torch song if there ever was one.
I hope this isn't a Lucy and the football moment for tonight's high-drama dinner at the Hopeless Mansion. I'm over Hazar and Miran not knowing who Azize really is to them.
Great recap Darcy! Thank you! I think I am the only one who didn't see the first season and I am enjoying this one so far. I did watch a bit of the first season on Peacock, just to get a feel for the characters. I agree that Oscar 20 years later seems a bit shallow compared to the younger model. Jimena was full of P and V back in the day too, now she was a total fraidy cat. Sarita is the one who seems very different now. I loved how she stood up to Gabriel and her poncho.
Like carmella, I was thrown a bit by Andres announcing he is gay. I didn't see that coming but glad that he is comfortable with himself and seemingly not worried his status will get out. This revelation definitely opens the door wide open for JD and Muriel.
As with Hercai and Miran, I think I am the minority regarding the twins, because I think they are bratty and funny. Now if we learn more about their true role in the death of the professor, I might change my mind, but for now, I enjoy their interactions with each other.
Thanks everyone! This was a fun one to recap!
Carmella, I think you answered your own question about the twins! LOL Juan and Norma probably let them go out because they knew they'd enjoy their night more without their drama! I also had that thought about Nino and the secretly gay thing, but he seems totally smitten with Gaby so I am not sure about that.
Adriana, you have a good point about doing a sequel that isn't needed, when I first heard this was happening I was incredibly excited but a part of me dreaded it because I feared what they would do with it. I am enjoying the show overall so far but I do hate what they've done (or not done) with Gabriela's character and Rosario too. It's disappointing to think there's no change after 20 years and there are so many other ways they could have gone to do justice to these characters. Maybe they still will, but we'll see.
VVS, I am not sure exactly how much the abbreviated Peacock season shows but Sarita was very cold and stern (like Gaby) for about the first half of the season. As the season progressed and especially after she fell in love with Franco she softened up a lot and was very similar to how we are seeing her now. I love the way her character is being portrayed here. She is so positive and generous, warm and loving! IMO we need more of that in this world. I hope Nino is able to stay at the ranch long enough to get to know his own worth and fall in love with the land, like Sarita said.
As far as the twins, I am closer to the hate them side than anything, but they do have their moments. I think their attitudes toward, and their behavior with women is detestable! The way they treated Rosario that day in the barn was horrid. But they are not as bad with the men in the story. As I've said before, I like the brother scenes with JD, I thought their interaction with Andres was sort of funny, getting drunk with grandpa was okay, and I even like how they are with Juan sometimes when they aren't too over the top disrespectful and are just a little bratty and funny like you said VVS, but their attitude toward women is toxic! I don't know how the writers will redeem that.
Thanks, novelera, for trying to explain the business about the shell casing. However, I'm still confused. There was only one gunshot when Yaren and Harun were struggling for control of the gun. The gun went off and Harun was killed. So how could there have been a second casing? And if the casing Azize gave Cihan was the one and only casing, how would that indicate who the killer was?
Hi Juanita. Regarding the second shell casing, remember Yaren called Cihan and he and Handan came to her rescue after she shot Harun. It was Cihan who wiped the gun, put it in Harun's hand and shot off a round, trying to make it look like a suicide. That is where the second shell casing came from. I am not sure how Mahmut figured out it was Yaren who did the shooting, but he always seems to have spies and lookouts everywhere in Midyat. He probably used the TN metal detector to find that second shell casing.
Thanks VERY much,VVS, for answering my question. Somehow, I forgot Cihan's firing a second shot from the dead Harun's hand.
Season 2 Episode 19 - Part 1 of 5
Back to Rosario’s living room and the police are there to arrest Erik and Leon for breaking and entering but Muriel says there must be a mistake. The boys are her friends and they are here with permission. Gunter tries to tell her not to speak nonsense but Rosario backs her up and says she opened the door herself; the twins didn’t break into anything! Matis says her assistant says different and she is just like whose word are you going to take? My assistant’s or mine, the owner of the property? Gunter is ordered to leave without a word, and the police follow right behind apologizing as they go. The twins are embarrassed that their troubles followed them into Muriel’s home while Muriel is embarrassed, they were harassed in her home. Rosario is just tired and out of patience. She kicks the boys out too, it’s late. They leave, tripping all over themselves to say goodbye first and most effusively. Muriel tells her mother not to worry about them, they can be a little crazy but they are good guys. Rosario thinks she knows exactly who they are. Muriel needs to rest and Rosario needs to get back to work. Mother and daughter leave each other with a tender moment tonight as Muriel says I love you mom, and Rosario kisses her forehead and tells her to rest.
Gunter is waiting to pounce in the hallway, and he’s pissed. If Rosario is going to do crazy things, then she shouldn’t count on him. He will look out for Muriel and Samuel only! He will call Samuel to come deal with her. Rosario asks if he’s threatening her and he says take it however you like! (How many times are they going to have this discussion? Rosario needs to get an ‘How to Expel a Ghoul from Your Home’ manual.)
Next morning Sara and Gaby are talking about what happened with Nino and grandma and Sara says Demetrio provoked it. Gaby lets it slip that Demetrio must have done it in revenge for what she said to him at the school and Sara is surprised, is he following you again? Gaby tells her mom he never stopped! They agree they want that man out of their lives and Sara says she is going to take care of it. Gaby thanks Sara for believing in Nino and not listening to the gossip and Sara admits she likes Nino; she thinks he’s a good guy.
Muriel is practicing with the girls again and this time she is preparing to put on her own performance! Rosario walks in on her practice and she looks genuinely happy to see it. She and Andres talk about how Muriel is doing well and Rosario thinks the show is a good idea, Andres thinks she will be a hit. Andres asks if Rosi is mad at him and she says no. She asks him for help with his cousins and this time she means the twins. She doesn’t want any more problems with the Reyes family and especially not with Juan David. She doesn’t know what the twins’ real intentions were last night but she doesn’t trust them and she wants them to stay away from the bar. She asks Andres to please talk to them. She clarifies she has no problem with Juan David but she just doesn’t trust the Erik and Leon.
Speaking of the devil twins, they are spreading brotherly love to JD again this morning. The boys talk about the party at Aunt Jimena’s last night and why they weren’t invited. JD tells them it was a surprise party and they couldn’t invite just anybody! (LOL) He says it’s a shame they weren’t there though, because they had a great time and their aunt and uncle are a lot of fun. The twins said they had an amazing time too! Rosario and Muriel welcomed them like Kings. All thanks to JD’s wonderful driving which gave them the perfect excuse to go visit her! Muriel was so nice to them it’s obvious she really likes them! JD asks his brothers to please not be obnoxious to those ladies, and they are offended. Didn’t we just tell you she likes us? What’s this, are you jealous? How would you feel if one of us started dating Muriel? JD is smiling and laughing and doesn’t look the slightest bit jealous or concerned, it must be because he knows his brothers are clowns who Muriel would never take seriously.
Season 2 Episode 19 – Part 2 of 5
Gabriela is shopping in Jimena’s store with Demetrio and they are discussing her encounter with Nino. Gabriela admits he was good-looking and seemed harmless. Demetrio warns her not to go off appearances as she could be deceived. Gabriela felt humiliated when Sara stood up to her and practically threw her off the ranch. Jimena approaches and is happy to see her mother and startled to meet Demetrio Jurado. She runs to get Oscar for backup and it’s clear there’s something off in their greeting but Oscar just says they’ve heard a lot about him from Gabriela and it’s a pleasure to meet him. Demetrio gets a call and excuses himself saying business never stops.
Gaby and Nino are talking and Gaby tells him both her mom and Gonzo say he’s a hard worker that learns quickly. Gaby asks about his family and he says they are doing well but he wishes he could move them to another place, a safer location. Gaby wants to know where and how she and Sara can help but Nino thinks they have done enough. Gaby says, if we can help, why not let us? Nino says the things that are worth having take hard work, he’s working on it and he will get there. These two are all smiles and stars in their eyes.
Gabriela is telling Jimena how much she hates arguing with the family, she’s lonely without Martin and Dominga is always busy! (LOL) For all those reasons, Gabriela is happy Demetrio came along to keep her company. He’s a wonderful friend, yada yada, yada. Jimena tries to reassure her mother that the family drama will pass and everything will be fine.
Demetrio is on the phone telling someone that anyone can be a threat to their business no matter how insignificant they might seem. He wants Nino out! He’s tired of him doing whatever he wants. He hangs up and goes back to Gabriela, time to go! He wishes Jimena a good day and she reciprocates. Oscar approaches Jimena and says ‘so that’s Gaby supposed stalker’. Jimena says yes, he didn’t look like a stalker, did he? Oscar replies with you never can tell what someone is hiding behind their friendly face, what I do know is your mother’s judgment. She always picks the wrong friends. Jimena says nothing but appears to agree.
Nino is driving down the road and runs into the neighborhood thug. He claims Nino is hiding but he says no, I’ve been around. Thug asks why he hasn’t been answering his phone and he says he’s busy. Thug tries to remind him he belongs to an organization and he can’t just go around doing what he wants like working at that ranch! He needs permission from the bosses! Nino thinks the bosses are ghosts, no one knows who they are and Nino isn’t going to walk around scared of ghosts. (I guess he wasn’t lying to Sara about Demetrio, he has no idea who his boss is, kind of makes you wonder why Demetrio doesn’t just leave Nino alone given his connection to Sara, he doesn’t know who he is so he’s not a threat to him) Nino is warned the bosses have their eyes on him even if he thinks they don’t, quit that job or tomorrow he will be in big trouble! And not only him but all the people in that hacienda! Thug rides off ominously.
It's nighttime and Don Martin is dreaming about the birds that want to destroy everything again. Quintina comes in and tries to shoo the birds off but Martin is very agitated and asking for Dominga. Quintina does her best to calm him and goes to get him some tea.
It’s the next morning and Nino must have gone to work, because we see several armed men swarming Sara’s ranch on dirt bikes. Nino is, indeed, at work and he sees the men first and goes quickly inside the nearest building. (I think he must be somewhere near the edge of the property since he saw them first) Nino calls Gonzalo and tells him what’s coming, he needs to warn everyone and close the doors, NOW! Gonzo warns everyone as quickly as possible and makes sure Sara is prepared. Andres tries to go out to help but Sara won’t let him. The gun men arrive and the shooting starts. They shoot the building open where Nino is and he’s found.
Season 2 Episode 19 – Part 3 of 5
Demetrio (coincidentally I am sure) shows up at Gabriela’s house in time to hear all about the attack and ride to the rescue with the men is just happens to have with him, who are of course armed!
Nino tries to talk his way out of what is about to happen but it’s a non-starter. He defends himself pretty well for a minute but he is out numbered and has no chance.
Norma arrives at the stables yelling for JD. They need to go to Aunt Sara’s NOW! The twins show up, they heard too and they want to go. JD wants them to stay and stay out of trouble but this is family and they have to go help defend their aunt. They argue for a minute but Norma doesn’t want to waste time and she decides to just let them come, let’s all go. Juan too, is gathering all men in the field. He’s taking them over to Sara’s now, and bring your guns, she’s under attack.
Sara has her children, and her maid who she is holding onto real tightly, all huddled up behind a wall hiding. Andres wants to know how long they have to wait and mom tells him until someone comes and gives us the all clear. Andres hopes his cousins and his uncle show up, he called them a while ago and they aren’t here yet. Sara laments that there isn’t a police station closer to them. Gaby is worried about the employees and Nino; more gun shots ring out.
Demetrio is arriving to save the day and they encounter the dirt bike thugs; he and his men get out of the truck and start shooting. Gabriela ducks.
Back in the house, Sarita has a gun now and is about to go out and see if all’s clear but Andres isn’t having it. They fight about who will go and Gaby even wants in. They each want to stop all the others from going and finally Sara pulls the mom card, you’re both staying and I’m going. This isn’t the first time I’ve handled a gun. She starts toward the door but it’s already opening, Sara lifts her gun and the kids and maid huddle around her. (If they weren’t terrified it would have occurred to them that whoever was opening the door clearly had the key, but I suppose an enemy could have gotten the key in the fight) It’s Gabriela and Demetrio at the door and each party looks cautiously relieved to see the other.
Juan arrives and Sara is much happier to see him than Demetrio, she runs and hugs her brother-in-law. Juan starts to ask questions like if they are okay and were the criminals caught, but they don’t know anything. They don’t know if the employees are okay, if anyone is hurt, they know nothing. Gaby is on her phone and I bet she’s trying to call Nino. Gabriela says the police are on the way. Demetrio tries to insert that there’s nothing to worry about because he and his men are there. Gabriela explains Demetrio showed up in a ‘miraculous manner’ and saved the day! (Seriously, where is this women’s red flag radar!) Sara wants to find out where her workers are and if everyone is okay. She calls for Gonzalo who tells her all the cowboys in the stables are fine, unfortunately two men were hurt though. Gaby asks about Nino and Gonzo says he hasn’t seen him.
Quintina is pushing Don Martin’s wheelchair and talking to Jimena. She doesn’t know what is going on and just tells her everyone has disappeared and she will tell them to call Jimena when they return. She tells Martin she’s worried it’s almost dark and no sign of anybody, where could they have gone? Martin thinks they are probably at a party! (LOL)
Sara is now inside her house with Gabriela, Norma, and Juan and is explaining they have no idea who attacked but it was clearly people from the region, they were determined to terrify them and it worked. They even hurt some men. The horses are fine thankfully. Juan thinks it’s suspicious that Demetrio showed up out of nowhere but Gabriela of course champions his effort and Juan says we will have to thank him but the look on his face says he’s uneasy with the situation (and he should be).
Season 2 Episode 19 – Part 4 of 5
Juan David, Erik and Leon are with Gaby searching every building trying to find Nino. Gaby is very worried and JD pulls his cousin into a hug and tries to reassure her. Maybe he left? Where’s his bike? Maybe he took off? But Gaby says no, his bike is still here. She says she has a bad feeling something horrible has happened and JD hugs her again and tells her it will be okay. They are going to find him.
Sara is talking to the police chief telling him Nino’s bike is still here and we can’t find him anywhere we have to do something! But a missing man after a gun fight is inexplicably not top priority in this police force and he wants to investigate the scene first? Demetrio tries to point out Nino is the only one not accounted for and everyone is concerned but the chief still doesn’t think Nino should be the center of their investigation! The twins come back and inform them they looked everywhere but couldn’t find Nino.
Juan is huddled up with his family and he doesn’t know what to think or do, he doesn’t think their presence is helping anything but Norma doesn’t want to leave. She doesn’t trust Demetrio and his gang and she doesn’t want her sister in any danger with him hanging around. Even the twins think Demetrio and Co are weird! Leon points out that Demetrio is pushing them off to the side lines and the police are looking talking to Demetrio, it’s strange. Juan goes to help Juan David check the security cameras and he tells the twins to remain vigilant. Sara comes out and asks Norma to please take their mom home and stay with her, she’s very nervous. Norma agrees. Juan is out in the field with his armed men so maybe by check the cameras, he meant examine the actual device rather than watch the footage?
Gaby is still looking for Nino and she finally finds him! It does not look good! She screams for help and can’t wake him! (And I’m wondering the whole commercial break if the writers are actually going to kill him off because there’s a shot of him looking like his eyes are open and he looks dead!)
After commercial, Gaby is still trying to wake Nino and she calls her mom and tells her to come quickly. (why didn’t she call 911?) Sara arrives. Nino is alive, he’s breathing and the ambulance is on the way so apparently Gaby did call 911.
Andres is walking with the Chief and Demetrio. Chief wants to know if they had any kind of threats before the attack but Andres says no, everything was normal. Could they identify the attackers? No, they were wearing helmets. Andres’ phone rings, it’s Sara telling him Nino has been found he runs off to help. An ambulance is needed immediately!
Andres oddly has time to call in to work (?), Rosario tells him to take care and call if he needs anything. Muriel approaches and asks why Andres isn’t there. Rosario tells her what happened and Muriel wants to go and offer their support. Rosario doesn’t think it’s a good idea, they would be in the way they should wait for tomorrow. Muriel can’t concentrate on rehearsal anymore and she walks off, Rosario tells the rest of the girls to keep going.
The medics have arrived to take Nino to the hospital and there’s a crazy issue over who will take care of him as Demetrio once again tries to insert himself, and Gaby is adamant that Demetrio hates Nino and she doesn’t want him anyway near him. Sara tries to be as diplomatic as possible but she insists that Nino is her employee and she and not Demetrio will take responsibility for him. Demetrio tries the whole I just care about you and your family spill but Sara says to save it for another day. Nino looks like he might lose an eye. (I am wondering if Nino is ‘out’ now? Like maybe he got jumped out of the gang and now they will leave him alone? Or did ‘out’ mean dead?)
Season 2 Episode 19 – Part 5 of 5
Muriel is not going to sit around and do nothing; she is going to Andres’ and Gunter can’t stop her. He thinks she won’t be able to find the house because she doesn’t know where it is but Muriel informs him that she does, she’s been there. Gunter threatens to tell mommy and Muriel says go ahead and see what happens!
Juan is telling Sara there are several blind spots in her security system. JD says she needs to modernize her set up and Juan says of course, like the one we have at home I will send you a contact tomorrow. Sara is overwhelmed, back in the day you could leave the door unlocked and nothing would happen; now you can’t even walk down the street. Juan says it’s the result of poor leadership and bureaucracy like Juvenal Correa himself, for example. JD asks if Gaby is still at the hospital, Sara says yes but she’s waiting for her to get back any minute. Gonzo says he gave the new guards instructions and Sara thinks they need to beef up security even more, Gonzo agrees.
Gaby arrives back home with Andres. Sara asks how everything went but oddly no one answers with an update on Nino’s condition, Andres just says they are tired but fine? JD tells Gaby she should rest and eat something. Gaby goes inside with her brother and Sara thanks Juan and JD for everything. Juan says you don’t have to thank us and we are going to stay close. We will make several rounds and make sure everything is okay. Sara says please do! She hugs and kisses both of them and they walk off.
Rosario is looking for Muriel in vain again, when will she learn? She does learn from Blanca that Gunter is gone too. Yep, he’s pulling up to Sarita’s with Muriel.
Andres is sitting at the table with Gaby trying to get his sister to eat. He tells her if she doesn’t eat, she will get sick (this is kind of silly, I think. I mean she most likely hasn’t eaten since lunch so I think if she doesn’t eat now, she’ll probably be just fine but he’s concerned about his sister so I get it.) Andres wants to know exactly what is going on between Nino and Gaby but all she says is he’s her friend and she’s worried about him, she cares about him, what’s wrong with that? Andres says nothing is wrong but if you want to help others you have to take care of yourself first. Andres gets a call from the band and needs to take it; he tells his sister he will be right back.
Like clockwork, Muriel arrives at the backdoor, how she got past all the now supposedly alert guards and to the back door would be an excellent question if she had a malicious intent (it’s probably an excellent question even though she doesn’t). Gaby greets Muriel with a smile and Muriel says she’s here to see Andres and Sarita. She guesses you must be Andres’ sister, Gaby; and Gaby guesses she’s Rosario’s daughter. Muriel confirms and introduces herself. And by the smiles on these ladies faces, I’d say the count of Reyes’ immediately charmed by Muriel is now 100%! Muriel even touches Gaby’s hair. She tells her she heard what happened and that’s why she came. Sarita arrives and is surprised but pleased to see Muriel. Muriel tells her she needed to see them and be with them. Sara thanks her.
Gunter is waiting in the car and he gets a call from Rosario, he is downright hostile as he tells her of course, he brought Muriel to Andres’ house. She’s safer here than with you where you allow your enemies to visit.
JD notices Gunter and tells his dad he’s going to go warn Aunt Sara. Juan tells two men standing with him to follow and keep their eyes on Juan David (I get it, Gunter is creepy, I’d send them too). I thought JD saw and recognized Gunter, but he didn’t, because he enters the house asking if they know whose car… he stops midsentence and is surprised but very happy to see Muriel! Those two smile at each other as if they were the only ones in the room.
And there we end of a light note after an episode full of angst.
What a super recap Darcy! Thank you. So many great comments and asides. I laughed out loud at this: “(Rosario needs to get an ‘How to Expel a Ghoul from Your Home’ manual.)” Too funny!
As I am still getting used to the TN flow and characters, I have yet to comment on “Tales from the Crypt,” Gunter. Has the actor even been in other TN’s? In my limited TN knowledge, I have never seen him before. Needless to say, he is goulash and way creepy. There has to be a very interesting back story there for sure.
Now we know that Demetrio is really the thug behind the thugs. I agree with you Darcy, why doesn’t he just leave Nino alone? Or does this Viejo cochino really think he has an in with Gaby?
I enjoyed the family banding together to take care of Sara’s family and her rancho. Even the devil twins were helpful and kind to Gaby.
Juan is the character I like the most so far. He is so astute, strong and calm. No wonder Norma adores him.
What happened to Nino? I can’t believe there was no update, just eat Gaby, eat.
Glad to see the unspoken truce with Muriel and her mother seems to be working. Of course, up and till Muriel convinces Gunter the Ghoul to take her to Sara’s rancho.
The smile on JD’s face at the end of the episode was nice, it looked like a bright light in the darkness.
Thank you, Darcy, for explaining some of the Sarita dynamics to me in an earlier post. I haven’t gotten very far in the Peacock version and she is still pretty much a carbon copy of Gabriela.
“Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?"
This woman has no place at our table or in our home, sez Angrybangs. He tells Reyyan she should know this better than anyone. Rey knows and adds, we have to talk. Azize rises from her seat and Rey asks her to sit. Miran shifts it up a gear—don’t ask her to sit down! If there’s anything to discuss we will resolve it as a family. She has got to go!
Rey stands her ground saying, I called her here because we all need to talk. Azize must be here. Dilsah is on Miran’s wavelength. This woman has to go, she says, I will not share a table with her. Miran assures his mother then goes over to Rey. What are you trying to do, he asks? Have you seen my mother’s state? Rey counters, do you realize the state we are in? I’m doing this for your sake and mine. If you love me even a little, listen and accept this.
Miran’s ready answer: you know I would sacrifice my life for you. [Turkish] If I have a thousand lives, then a thousand lives would be yours. [we figured he already used up nine.] But this woman, even if she had a thousand lives, would not give you one. I know this woman very well.
Nasuh interjects, listen, everyone here has the right to speak. Anyone with anything to say has the right to do so. So Hazar takes the opportunity. I’m sorry, but Miran is right, he says. This woman (Azize) has caused my children a lot of pain. If we let her sit at this table, she will never leave us alone.
Miran grabs Azize by the arm and says—out! Let’s go. And he leads her away from the table and out to the patio over Rey’s protests. All the roaches follow them out. Azize pleads with Miran. Nasuh rushes to her side.
Miran accuses Azize of fooling Reyyan but says he can’t be fooled. He declares she will never set foot in this house again. Leave right now! Azize is in obvious physical and emotional pain. Miran continues, look all around you. Take a good look at each and every one. Rey asks him to stop. He’s not stopping. What do you see in their eyes, he asks Azize. He tells her they all have pain, hate or fear.
Nasuh tries to reason. Miran, there are things you don’t know. Miran fires back, what, Grandpa? What things?! Everyone says there are things I don’t know, then tell me! [he’s got a point there] Am I wrong, he asks, have I lied? Is there anyone here who hasn’t suffered because of this woman? Every life she has touched is either damaged, incomplete, falling apart or already destroyed! [another point for Miran]
Miran moves in on Azize. Why can’t we get rid of you? Why won’t you leave us alone? Let us live without having to be like you. He shouts, who are you?! Tell me, who are you Azize Hanım! What more do you want from us?!
All I want is your forgiveness, Azize whimpers. This adds fuel to Miran’s fire. I’m going crazy! Why, woman?! Rey gives Azize an encouraging look. Miran continues to rant. Why is my forgiveness so important for someone who has darkened so many lives without blinking an eye?!
Azize begins, çünkü (because)…. and is interrupted by the uninvited Fusun’s greeting: Iyi akşamlar, Şadoğulları…. And adds, well… not all of you are family. What are you doing here, Nasuh asks? Fusun snarks, thank you, I’m glad to be here. I came for you, Miran, she says, as you can see, I kept my word. Must it always be me who reveals all the important secrets of this family? What do people call it… déjà vu. Yes, that’s it.
Fusun turns to Azize, why did this happen? Azize answers, this isn’t the time for one of your performances. Fusun agrees but adds, it’s the time for telling some truths. Nothing will remain hidden, it will all be revealed.
Miran is anxious to know. Fusun obliges. You investigated the accident, you sought me out, she says. You are a clever man. She announces, it wasn’t an accident. I did it. Stunned roaches. Hazar approaches Fusun, what did you say? What do you want from my son?! I wanted him to die, Fusun replies. Miran holds his father back and says let’s hear her out. [didn’t expect that reaction from Miran]
Why did you want me to die, Miran asks? If you mean, “what have you ever done to me”, Fusun replies, you’ve done absolutely nothing to me. But children pay for the sins of their fathers… and for their mother’s sins, too. Azize took my daughter from me, so I wanted to take something from her. Miran and Hazar trade puzzled looks.
Fusun tells Miran not to look at Hazar that way, he’s the primary victim. He paid for the sins of his father and his mother. Azize wants Fusun to stop. No way that will happen. Hazar launches a rant at Azize, what do you want from my family? Haven’t we had enough?! What are you hiding?! We’ve suffered so much, I can’t take it anymore. Get out of our lives!
Fusun steps in, she’s been hiding something very important from you, Hazar. She is hiding who she really is. Then speak, Hazar shouts at Azize, who are you?! Speak! Azize can’t, so Fusun continues, I thought you had been spared from being this woman’s grandson, Miran. But you weren’t. Fate has brought you back together. I’m sorry Miran… Azize is actually Hazar’s mother. Which makes her your grandmother. And that was the end of Turkish ep 58.
We get the various roach reaction shots. An incredulous Hazar asks, do you realize what you are saying? Do you remember when I told Miran you were his real father, Fusun asks in reply. He wouldn’t accept it either. And then what happened? We get the flashback. Hazar approaches Fusun. He thinks she’s lying. She tells him he won’t accept it and that’s why he’s angry. You can’t even look in her (Azize’s) direction, she says. It’s a normal reaction, but facts are facts. If you find it hard to believe me, ask your father.
Hazar can’t even look at his father, but he manages to ask if this true. Nasuh answers that he planned on telling him. Hazar kinda wants a yes or no—is it true, dad?! Fusun pipes up, say something Azize, tell him. Tell him how for years you tried to kill your son. That you wanted your grandson to kill him. Tell him. Tell him how your fate is a punishment from God and now you must pay.
Teary Azize remains silent while Hazar demands the truth from his father once again. Nasuh finally confirms it’s true. Azize is your biological mother. I just recently found out. Hazar has a visceral reaction, he staggers and coughs and looks about to be sick to his stomach. Miran holds him up. Hazar starts to shuffle away. Miran asks him not to go. If anyone should go, it’s that woman, he says.
Azize reaches out to her son. Hazar shouts, don’t touch me! But you are my son, Azize pleads. I’m not your son, Hazar shoots back. We get the flashback of Miran shouting at his who’s the daddy reveal “I know who I am!” Now Hazar says the same thing to Miran. I know exactly who I am! He tells Azize, you are nobody to me! You’re nothing to me!
Hazar turns to Nasuh, when were you going to tell me? Azize says it’s not Nasuh’s fault. I begged him not to tell. I wanted time to fix things. I get why you and Miran hate me, she says, I made many mistakes [understatement], but I didn’t know I was your mother. When I was Ayse, I did everything to save your life. I know it won’t be easy but please forgive me.
Forgive you, Hazar asks with disgust, you think you deserve forgiveness? Do you think anyone could forgive you? Cut to Fusun enjoying the show. Rey calls out to her dad, please don’t say anything you might regret. Miran asks her not to defend Azize.
Hazar picks up, telling Azize to stay away from him and his children. I already have a mother, he declares. Let the whole world hear it, it’s Nazli Sadoglu. Understand? Not in this world or the next, will accept being your son. Do you hear, Azize Aslanbey?! I refuse to do it!
Hazar shuffles off and Nasuh and Zehra follow. Azize makes a promise to Miran, I swear from now on I will do the impossible to earn your forgiveness. As God is my witness, I will only live for you. Miran responds, if you live for us, then stay far away. He leaves with Rey following. Azize sobs.
Hazar collapses outside the konak and everyone rushes to help him. Nasuh wants to talk but Hazar thinks there’s nothing to talk about. Everything with you is a mystery and a secret, he tells his father. What else can you tell me? Hazar says he will never forgive Nasuh. Hazar stumbles away. Miran says to give Hazar a moment alone. Nasuh tells Miran to go with his father, don’t leave him alone. Miran tells Reyyan to go home and take care of herself and the baby. He sets off after Hazar and they drive off together.
Rey laments that she couldn’t tell Miran the truth. Zehra is surprised to hear Rey knew. Nasuh tells Rey not to worry, they will fix it. Rey knows that they should have told the truth and not Fusun.
Azize sits dejected and Fusun stands before her and stares at her. Azra leaves Dilsah’s side and comes over to talk. Fusun turns her gaze to Azra and remembers seeing the birthmark. Azra asks, who are you? [Turkish] Fusun starts, kızım ben (my girl/daughter, I)…. Azra angrily interrupts, kızım ne? (daughter what?) That truck almost killed us and now you call me “daughter”?!
I didn’t know, Fusun replies. You’re not even the least bit embarrassed to take credit for doing it, Azra says. You’re a real life villain. Whatever problem you have with Azize, how could you do something like that? Do you know what it is to have human feelings? Do you have any children? Azize and Dilsah look on. Uh, oh….
Fusun does not answer, and Azra tells her to get out. A Fusun henchie grabs Azra and Fusun shouts, don’t touch her! Never touch her again, she growls. Sometimes those who make mistakes don’t actually make them, Fusun tells Azra, they seem like unhinged murderers. At least from the outside. But if you look inside, you’ll realize they are the victims. They are the mistreated and wronged…
Furious Azra interrupts again, what are you talking about?! It hasn’t been five minutes since I’ve heard what you did to this family! I was in that crash. I was part of that tragedy. I almost died in that truck accident, Fusun Hanım! Now leave with your manners before I call the police. Fusun stays still and silent. Azra shouts in her face, I told you to leave! Go! Dilsah asks Azra to come inside with her. Azra gives a last withering look at Fusun and goes with Dilsah. Fusun softly calls after her… Güneş… kızım.
Here's a scene from “Freaky Friday, the Midyat Remake”.
Hazar and Miran are in the car. Where are we going, Miran asks? [“we” are about to go crazy] Hazar says nothing but has flashback to when Azize tried to burn him to a crisp and the aftermath of her rescue. Miran asks “where to” again and adds, it doesn’t mean much but don’t do this to yourself. Don’t hurt yourself, it’s not worth it. This elicits another Hazar flashback where he demands to know from Nasuh “what did she (Azize) say for you to go silent again?” Hazar starts to drive fast enough for Miran to start worrying. Slow down a little, dad. [lol]
Meanwhile, Rey panics about Miran discovering she kept this latest revelation from him. Zehra tries her best to keep Rey calm. Think of the baby. Rey worries, how will I ever look Miran or dad in the eyes? None of this is your fault, Zehra assures her. She glances at Nasuh and continues, whoever revealed this secret to you and put you in this awful dilemma is to blame. Nasuh agrees with Zehra and tells Rey he will speak with Hazar and Miran. Rey does not want him to do that. Don’t make it more confusing and painful. I’ll take care of it, she says.
Azize exits the konak and immediately apologizes to Rey and takes the full blame. I should have never asked for your help, she admits, I put the responsibility on your shoulders. Rey replies it’s too late for sorry. Rey goes inside and Zehra unloads on Azize and Nasuh. How many more time will you two make my daughter cry?! That’s enough! Zehra leaves. Azize says that Zehra is right, everything I’ve done has been to hurt the ones I love. [whatever, but Hazar and Miran deserve to hear the full truth at some point. I hope it’s sooner rather than later.]
Mahmut brings the car around for Azize. Nasuh doesn’t want to leave Azize when she’s not well. He offers to take her. She declines and tells him to go home. I have something important to do, she says.
Back to Freaky Friday. Hazar is speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. Miran appeals to him to slow down before there’s an accident. Miran pulls the emergency brake, and the car comes to a screeching halt. Hazar bolts from the car and has a Miran-like meltdown in the middle of the road. Miran pulls Hazar away before a van almost runs him down.
Hazar is besides himself. What have I been living all these years, he moans. It’s all been a lie, a lie! How could a father do this to his child?! Why didn’t he tell me? Miran listens, then answers, it’s hard to raise children from different mothers in the same house. Maybe grandpa did it to maintain the peace.
So that makes it okay, Hazar asks, does it make it better? I’m questioning my past at my age? What is the truth about my life? Now I find out I am the son of a sinister woman! How do you expect me to feel?! You were there… what did they expect? For me to hug her and kiss her hand and call her “mom”?! What kind of life is this?! Miran manages to keep his mouth shut and listen.
Hazar continues, I had a mother, a very sweet mother, who raised us with love. The poor woman died in silence, he cries, that was my mother! Miran sighs in frustration, Azize won’t give up and you know it. Hazar snaps back, let her do what she wants! She will never have the love of her son! She will wait in vain. Let her beg for anyone else’s love. May she forget and stay far away from my children and me. Do you understand?
Dad, I understand you better than anyone, Miran replies. I didn’t want to accept who my father was either. I was full of rage. I was his enemy. But my father told me something. “If I had a thousand lives, I’d sacrifice them all for you, but I will never renounce my son.”
Hazar thinks Miran doesn’t get it. Do you see me as Azize’s equal, he asks? You’re comparing me to the woman who raised you as my enemy? No, never, Miran answers. Do you want me to forgive Azize, Hazar asks?
No, Miran replies, she’s dead to me and the dead don’t come back [he left out: except in dizis and TNs] I’d never forgive that woman and I wouldn’t expect you to. But tonight I realized how lucky I am, Miran smiles, because I have a father like you. I am proud and grateful. Right now you are embarrassed to be that woman’s son but just remember you have a son who is very proud of you. Never forget that. [Turkish] Because we are going to survive this by holding on to each other. Hazar reaches out and pulls his son into a hug.
Azat drives Gonul home. A moment of awkwardness. She says goodnight but he stops her from getting out. Gonul… thank you. For what, she replies, I didn’t do anything. You did enough, he says, you came and found me and spent time with me. She downplays it, saying she said nothing to make him feel better. That is his specialty. Isn’t that better, he asks? How, she asks in reply. He answers, being in silence together without saying anything. Isn’t that better? They share a sweet gaze.
We get a replay of Azat and Gonul’s greatest hits and misses. [He kidnaps her, she shoots him. She slanders him, he confronts her in the town square daring her to kill him….of course they were destined to fall in love.] The two lean in and Azat puts his hand on her cheek. They are nose to nose and about to kiss, when Azat pulls back. More awkwardness. This isn’t right, he says and apologizes. Maybe we just got confused for a moment, she reasons. Azat agrees, when two people share so much, sometimes the line between friendship and love can get confusing. I better go she says and quickly gets out. He drives off but not before taking a lingering gaze at Gonul outside her door that she returns.
Zehra is on her phone when Miran returns to the konak. He tells her that Hazar is okay, there’s nothing to worry about. She wonders why he left Hazar alone. That’s what he wanted, Miran replies, he needs time alone. He will come back later. Miran walks away.
In the kitchen, Dilsah asks Reyyan, you knew, didn’t you? Azize is Hazar’s mother and Miran’s grandmother. Miran walks in on this and listens unseen. Dilsah continues, that’s why you were seeing Azize. Because she’s Miran’s grandmother. That’s why you wanted her to survive. Because you knew. Rey nods yes. Miran makes his presence known and Rey drops a glass. He asks Dilsah to give him alone time with Rey.
So you knew the truth, Miran says. I knew, Rey replies. Miran realizes that’s why she couldn’t look him in the eyes. I asked so many times and this is what it was about. She starts to explain but he tells her to be quiet. Don’t say you tried to tell me. I tried, she says, I really did. You said you understand me better than anyone, he tells her, you understand not knowing who you are and living a lie. You’ve been through what I have been through.
Miran goes out to the patio. Rey follows and begs him to stop. She tries to explain, it wasn’t because I didn’t want to, but because I couldn't. Doesn’t matter to Miran. She lays this on Azize. What do I care about Azize, he says, I only care about you. You… everything you say, all your words, and now, I care about what you hide and what you do. Everybody knew, but you… you aren’t everybody. You are my Reyyan, my wife. You are everything to me. If everyone is against me, you have to be by my side. Why didn’t you tell me, he asks?
He starts to unwind, we’re supposed to be honest and have no secrets [what a hypocrite]. We’ve crossed oceans, mountains and overcome revenge. Now a secret is doing this to us? Why? I had to do it, Rey responds. She said she first wanted your forgiveness. He can’t believe Rey said nothing because Azize asked. Rey says she did it for him and for her father. But because Azize asked, Miran repeats. Does Azize mean that much to you?
Don’t say that, Rey replies, don’t speak to me like this. I asked her not to hide it. And fine, this isn’t how you should have found out, but maybe it would have been easier if she’d earned your forgiveness. At this point, Zehra, Azra and Dilsah come out to the patio.
Rey continues, maybe it would hurt less if you knew how much it pains her to carry this burden. Miran is astonished—how can you believe for one second I’d forgive her? How can you defend that woman?! I’m not defending anyone, she answers, I haven’t forgotten or forgiven. I know it’s hard to accept but she is your grandmother, your father’s mother.
Miran responds, that woman is nothing more than a murderer who tried to get me to kill my own father! I want nothing to do with her! I don’t want to hear what she has to say regardless of who she is! What hurts most aren’t her lies. What I can’t stand is that you, in spite of me and everything else, took her side. Rey denies this. You didn’t tell me, he reminds her. She vehemently denies taking sides and adds she never lied to him.
Miran starts to walk and orders his car. Rey tries to stop him. Dilsah calls out to Miran, don’t go. Zehra stops Rey from following Miran. Let him go, he needs time alone. Worry about yourself and the baby. But Rey runs outside to speak with Miran. Remember what you told me when I lost the baby, she asks? “I didn’t know how to tell you, I thought it less painful.” Now do you understand why I did it?
Miran counters, did you understand me that day? Did you see reason? Or were you bitter for not being told sooner? You were right then, but not now, he tells her, I should have told you the truth then, but tonight, your responsibility was to be by my side. Miran heads for his car. Rey shouts, how many more times will you leave me here alone? [as many times as you allow, girl!] What about the promises you made? [he never keeps them] I’m not abandoning you, he says, but I have to do this because you broke your promise. I need to be alone for a moment. He drives off.
Zehra has been out there, too, and she goes to her daughter. Rey tells her, it’s over. It isn’t over, Zehra replies, you’re not well. You should take better care of yourself. Rey tells her mother she is fine and goes into the konak, leaving her mother outside.
Miran is speeding down the road, replaying his convo with Rey. He blames Azize for everything. Once again your selfishness is to blame, he says. You used Reyyan so that we would forgive you. You took advantage of her noble heart.
Hazar is somewhere in his car feeling sorry for himself. He gets a call from Zehra. She begs him to come home. He sobs and repeats, I have a mother, I have a mother. He hangs up.
Azra has questions. That woman destroyed everything in one second, she tells Dilsah. How could someone so full of hate exist? Who is she? What does she want? She’s nobody, Dilsah replies, a relative of Azize’s. I think there was some conflict that created hostility between them. I imagine that’s why she’s hurt. She found out Miran is Azize’s grandson and used that to hurt them… and you, too.
Dilsah adds, if you want to do something for me, please return to Istanbul. I’m worried about Miran, I don’t want to worry about you, too. Azra asks if Dilsah is hiding something from her. No, Dilsah says, what could I be hiding. I just fear for my children. There’s nothing that can take Miran from this land, but your place is elsewhere. Your life is in Istanbul. You’ll be safer there. That’s twice you have asked me to leave, Azra replies. I don’t know what you are hiding, but I’m not leaving. So drop the subject. Azra walks out.
Fusun returns home to Seyda sleeping on the patio, dreaming about the about the “kırmızı elbise” (red dress). [What’s that about?] Fusun pokes him awake with her cane and orders him to make coffee.
We end with a scene from “Mean Girls of Midyat”.
Azize shows up. Did you get what you wanted, Fusun? Are you happy? Hazar knows I am his mother. [Calling all roaches to the patio, immediately!] My son and grandson hate me more than ever. What did you get from that? Roach Gonul asks what’s going on. Everything is fine, Fusun says, Hazar just found out that Azize is his real mother, so she’s come to scold me. You’re mistaken, Azize tells her, that wouldn’t do anything. I’ve come to warn you of what’s going to happen now.
And we are out.
Wow, dondi356, I don't know how you had the patience or the stomach to recap this episode in such detail. I found the episode very painful, though as always, you did a superb job. Needless to say, what I liked best were your title and, especially, your marvellous, often biting asides.
As is already apparent, I disliked this episode. A lot. I am sick, sick, sick of all this genealogical angst. I've never been in a similar situation, so I'm hesitant to call it silly or stupid. But come on, guys. Many episodes ago, it was Reyyan acting like an idiot, claiming Hazar is not her father. Oh? The man who was with her from the moment of her birth, showering her with love and affection, is suddenly not her father? She finally got over that, but now, ironically, Hazar is being just as foolish. He had a mother who loved him, and he loved her. But last night he learns that Azize is his bio mom, and he becomes an emotional basket case: "What have I been living all these years," he moans. "It’s all been a lie, a lie!" What's even worse is that he gets into the car with his son and starts driving like a maniac, endangering both their lives.
Miran was in many ways his usual self, furious at Azize, and also blaming Reyyan for not telling him the truth and not keeping her promise. As if he always tells her the truth and keeps his promises to her. But, as you point out, dondi356, in some ways Miran was more restrained and mature than usual. His words of comfort to Hazar were especially moving.
I was never comfortable with Azize's wish to "fix things," to somehow make up for all the horrible things she has done, before letting Hazar and Miran know that she is their mother/grandmother. She has hurt so many people, including some, like Elif, who are no longer alive. Does she really think she can "fix things"?
I could go on and on (as many characters did last night), but I think I'll stop.
Again, many thanks, dondi356.
Dondi, thank you for every detail as Azz and Fusan have a danceoff of threats of revenge .
Angrybangs is high maintenance . Like father ,like son.
I am getting confused . Does Dilsah know that Azar is Fusan's daughter?
Every time I type Fusan, I shudder that it is on!y one letter away from Susan . ew. Azz became an awful person due to the revenge that consumed her , but Fusan is such a joyless, evil bully. What a Crankypants . If she ever smiles, her face will crack.
Wow, Wow, WOW dondi356! What a splendid recap for this pivotal episode! I really appreciated the detail in all those crucial conversations and for including the Turkish version as well. I know that takes a lot of time.
Look who is coming to dinner indeed! Azize and Fusun!
Miran was on point for part of episode. Unfortunately unraveling and being quite the hypocrite for the rest. Even though he kept Hazar from a major meltdown, I didn’t like his treatment of Reyyan at all. Unfortunately, I think AngryBangs is here to stay for a few episodes. Freaky Friday in Midyat, Hahaha! Excellent!
As Miran and Hazar listed all of Azize’s many, many sins, I kept thinking, how can she even think anyone can forgive her? Does she really deserve a second chance? The things she has done are horrible.
The birthmark on Azra’s wrist sealed the daughter deal for Fusun and Azize knows it. Good for Azar demanding miss red hot pants out of the Hopeless konak.
Nasuh and Azize have certainly made a hot mess of everything. Can’t wait to do episode two of the “Mean Girls of Midyat” on Monday.
Terrific recap! Thank you dondi356!
Amazing recap, dondi! You got every nuance and with asides that echoed my thoughts.
Like Juanita I am fed up to the back teeth with this "Who's your daddy?" or "Who's your mommy?" stuff.
Reyyan has become a shadow of her former self. Is this how the writers view pregnancy? Almost every episode she clutches her stomach and winces. Why didn't she stand up to Miran and tell him that, if it weren't for Azize knowing about those wild herbs, there'd be no lentil for the two of them to endanger with their rants?
And, of course, it was the nasty Fusun who got to tell the tale with no softening details. Nothing was said about her thinking her baby had died in the fire. Her behavior has been despicable, of course. But couldn't they have thrown in some mitigating circumstances. Nasuh? Thought she died in the fire? No one brings up the evil Gul, who set the whole tragedy in motion by telling Nasuh that his adored Ayse died in the fire.
If I were writing this, I'd have Reyyan pack up and leave Jackass Miran and have nothing to do with him until his knees were bloody from begging her forgiveness.
The best part of the episode was Azra lighting into Fusun. Of course the actor portraying her lacked the skill to adequately show what a blow this would be.
That birthmark thing was familiar. In Alborada, it was a burn scar on Luis' leg that revealed HIS parentage. Pretty sure I've seen switched or stolen babies being revealed before by birthmarks in telenovelas.
At least we had a Cihan and Handan free episode.
Another great recap Darcy! Super indeed and funny! You’ve got Gunter’s number, cause he is a “ghoul” indeed! Lol! I can just picture him retiring to his coffin at night, lol! Shame the sunlight doesn’t disintegrate him! He really oversteps his bounds with EVERYBODY! Like Gunter, “you are not the boss!!” Still he seems to think so, and that his threats really hold some clout! Hmmmm……
EVERYBODY also gets that something about Demetrio stinks! Except Gabriela of course. Demetrio is really trying—-too hard——to ingratiate himself into the family, Sarita’s to be exact, but ain’t nobody——but Gabriela——buying what he’s selling. I also like how observant and intuitive Juan Sr is. He keeps his emotions in check, but you also know that he’ll do some damage if he has to. He’s come a long, long way, and I admire what they’ve done with his character. One thing though, where were all your high tech cameras when they were stealing horses from your ranch???? Hmmmm…
The plot is definitely thickening, where Nino and the gang are concerned. I hope Nino makes it, and somehow turns the tables on Demetrio. But it seems like, at this point, and he mentioned it too, that he doesn’t know who these “ghost” bosses are. He’s a seemingly decent young man so far and I hope he stays that way no matter what happens.
Yes, the ending was a very bright spot in this episode! JD and Muriel, if even for a moment, make me want more of them!
Thank you so much again Darcy!
Out of the ballpark recap Dondi356 ! You hit on everything and then some! “Guess who’s coming to Dinner?” Two unwanted, destroy everything that they touch bitches! That’s who!! Was there some kinda symbolism I missed with Azize all in white and Fusun all in red???? Angel vs Devil or something?? I think not! And inasmuch as I’ve made my peace with all the evil things that Azize has done, she’s still gotta pay, and I don’t think that she can ever meet the cost! She can’t fix this, and it’s too soon for her to deserve the gift of forgiveness. Personally, I think people need to forgive so that they don’t have to carry around a truck load of someone else’s manure——- but that’s just me, and like I said, ITS TOO SOON!
Moron, is still a Moron even though he was there for his Dad when Hazar needed him most. How can he go on and on about how Reyyan is supposed to be there for him when the first chance he gets, he takes off on her? You can’t have it both ways Moron! He also told Azize, as he’s pushing her into the courtyard, that he doesn’t want to hear anything that she has to say, but in the same dragon breath says, wait, let’s hear Fusun out! WTH! He’s a major moron of moronic proportions! Makeover please!!
This pregnancy has definitely changed Reyyan, and in a marriage where all she does is cry day in and day out, should give her some vital clues in listening to the beautiful sound of her feet as she walks away from Moron and all this drama! Sometimes love just ain’t enough girl!!
Loved Azra telling Fusun off! Take that you horrid, despicable witch! I would love to see Azize and Fusun take of all their jewelry, pull their hair back, but some Vaseline on in all the right places, spit on their fists and duke it out till only one of them is left standing! Cat fight!!
Enjoyed this one dondi356! More than you know!!
Yes, in Alborada Luis had a scar on his leg from being in A fire when he was a baby which ultimately proved that he and primo Diego had been switched when they were babies after his parents died and his evil Tia raised both babies .
Thank you, Darcy, your recap was dynamite!
I loved Oscar's conclusion about Demetrio - it's not that he doesn't trust the guy, it's just that he doesn't trust his suegra's taste in men. So well put!
So what was the point of the attack? To scare Nino into giving up work at the ranch? Why so much interest in a nobody,it's not like qnino could harm their organisation in any way? Or was it also to have Demetrio save the day? I was happy to see nobody likes him no matter what he does, the guy is creepier than Gunther in my eyes.
Looks like Muriel and Rosario are improving their relationship. Maybe Samuel's constant presence was really toxic for their relationship. Of course we know this improvement will vanish when the battle for JD starts...

Thanks everyone! It was an impactful episode although not always fun. I am worried about poor Nino and I just couldn't believe they handled it the way they didn't give an update and even that they all just left the hospital, where's the all night vigil?? The family huddle waiting for news? It seemed callous.
VVS, I have never seen the actor playing Gunter in any other TN. I believe this is his first one, his IBDM page has only a few credits and I think they were movies.
Carmella, 'One thing though, where were all your high tech cameras when they were stealing horses from your ranch????' I was thinking the same thing!!! :)
Adriana, What's the point of the attack on the ranch is a very good question!!! I think they intended to kill Nino - it certainly looked like he wasn't supposed to survive that beat down. But then it does beg the question why do it at the ranch with all the collateral damage when you could just shoot him on the street if you're only goal was to kill the guy you want out of your gang. So maybe the purpose was twofold? Kill Nino and look like a hero while doing it? If that was the goal it certainly didn't work.....when even the devil twins think you're a shady dude you are definitely trending in the wrong direction! LOL Demetrio should hire Felix to be the public face of the gang, he would just stare inscrutably and no body would have any idea what to think or feel.
I haven't said this before because I am unsure of just what does or doesn't break the Carey Carey rules as far as mentioning other productions but I hope this is okay since it isn't a spoiler an any way, shape, or form; just a fun fact (at least to me). Tierra De Reyes was an adaptation of the original PDG, all the characters names in that were different. The character who was the equivalent to Franco in PDG, was named Samuel and they named one of the thugs in that production Franco. Now, in season 2 we have Rosario's husband - whom we haven't met yet but as certainly been built up to be thuggish, named Samuel! :) It's probably not even on purpose, but I find it kind of funny, I might be a dork though! LOL
Thank you everyone. Comments are great!
Juanita and VVS, ITA on Azize “fixing things”. She’s made another mess, dragging the people she claims to love directly into the center. I’m agreeing with those who just can’t forgive her yet, if at all.
“Yes.......Reyyan you were way way way out of your depths.....pawns get played....why for YaAllah ..did you think you could$ control THE INEVITABLE....” Yes, Halimacandy, Reyyan can’t and should not try. Her mother has the same problem.
Don’t worry, Susanlynn, you are two letters away from “Fusun”! Hopefully, your autocorrect won’t pick up on it and turn it into Susan. LOL: “If she ever smiles, her face will crack.”
novelera, “Is this how the writers view pregnancy? Almost every episode she clutches her stomach and winces.” I’m finding it very annoying, too. I suppose it’s a foreshadow of a harrowing birth.
Also, ITA: “If I were writing this, I'd have Reyyan pack up and leave Jackass Miran and have nothing to do with him until his knees were bloody from begging her forgiveness.” I’d love to see this happen.
I’ll admit Miran had some fine moments on Friday but what I find troubling is his continued Jekyll and Hyde treatment of Reyyan. Their relationship started with his vengeful lie, and he has not changed enough for my liking. He promises he is not that angry, revenge mode Miran anymore, but his actions belie his words. Is it any wonder Rey is reluctant to tell him the truth? He goes off on secret missions, with little consideration for Rey’s feelings or for his or her safety. His hypocritical outbursts directed at her are appalling. His jealousy was sickening—let’s hope no more “rivals” pop up. Does he really love Reyyan or does he just want to possess her? And those bangs! I know Miran has lots of fans out there and some here, but for me, he’s a disappointment. So are the writers.
I think we all enjoyed Azra ripping into Fusun. The witch doesn’t seem eager for Azra to find out. A page out of Azize’s book? I hope Azra never forgives her.
Hazar and Miran deserve to hear the entire story asap, so they can eventually forgive Azize. Not keen on it but I assume we’re getting it.
Yes, birthmarks have their place in literature as well as TNs and dizis.
carmella, the thought of a “cat fight” between Azize and Fusun is hilarious. Glad you called Miran out on his Azize v. Fusun hypocrisy.
