Mi Fortuna Es Amarte #46, 04/29/22: Ultimatum

Andrea, of course, scolds--nay, lays a major guilt trip on-- her mother for not being anywhere near while she was contemplating killing herself by jumping off the nearest bridge.  (Viewerville is screaming that she chose to leave the shack to live with her aunt in the huge manse, choosing to remain incognito all this while.)

Down the street outside the garage, Juanga and his mechanic compatriots are having a wake for Juanga's failed relationship with Olga.  The others bid farewell and good riddance as they share a couple of 40 ouncers with Juanga who is literally crying in his beer.  (Viewerville swallows a trago or two along with Tavo and Tina.  ¡Salud y hasta nunca, naca!)  We agree with Darius, "Some people will never change...i.e., it was to be expected (from Vulga).  Tina emphasizes what was obvious for the rest of us: "--She was just playing with you.  Good riddance. She was using you to get to Chente."  Simba walks by to rub salt on the wound.  "--She dumped you cuz you're a dumbass!"

Back at Vicente's, Natalia says she never thought Andi would go as far as trying to kill herself.  Her two daughters were the force behind her trying to come out ahead after this tragedy of being abandoned by their father. She should first think of her beautiful baby (wrong example, Mom!) Andi sneers if she cared for her kids like she says then she'd forget this ridiculous and humiliating relationship of hers with a bro from the barrio. Finally, it hits Nata how selfish her daughter really is by moving in with Constanza of the Casota instead of struggling with them in the barrio finding a way to make it on their own.  Andi finally cuts to the chase:  "--Either break off the romance with the hermanaco or you'll never see me again-- or my baby!!"  And with that threat lingering in the fetid air, Andi races out of the place, slamming the door behind her.

Meanwhile, around the barrio, somewhere, Chente rents a loudspeaker to hook to the truck and starts blaring out invitations to try Natalia's delicious tortillas espaniolas.  He also makes an attempt to get Benji to speak through it but the kid fails.

Regina comes home with Jose Jose Pepe Pepe.  He attempts to kiss her when Nata walks in on them.  Regi heads upstairs to check on something and Nata has a R.E.S.P.E.C.T. chat with Jojo about his relationship with Regi.  It's her first so he better not bring things to a boil so quickly or he runs the risk of burning the relationship.  (Oh, and yes, he plans to get back into high school and then go to college.  How long have we been listening to this?)  She of course admires this.

Now back home with Connie, Andi tells her aunt of the fiasco meeting with her mother and her threats.  Connie is dumbfounded at her sister's choice of man (quite hypocritically speaking of course...)  Mario arrives at an "opportune moment" for Conz.

Nata tells Regi it's fine to date Jojo.  Class (or lack of it?) shouldn't enter into it, only luuuhhhhvv.  She also mentions Andi's visit and threats.  However, Nata is in love with Chente; he's made a new woman out of her.  As if to emphasize it, he shows up blaring his love for her and her delicious tortillas.

Conz and Andi urge Mario to convince Nata not to continue this romantic relationship with Chente.  "-At least until my dad gets out of jail."  No, no, says Connie.  That's not going to happen.  Mario then tells the two of them that in fact, Adrian is out of jail.  Conz is shocked but Andi's ready to jump for joy.

Chente informs Nata how well the tortillas went over in the barrio.  She's gained quite a reputation.  He's got designs to get someone to announce the tortillas throughout the barrio to start selling and then to expand to the neighboring areas.  She's afraid it might be too soon, but Chente convinces her it isn't moving too fast.  One has to think big to grow big.

Chole grouses with Vulga over her rudely breaking it off with Juanga.  Vulga admits she simply couldn't get Chente out of her head.

Tina tells Chente about Vulga's dropkicking Juanga out of a relationship.  He's not happy with the nasty way she dumped his brother and goes looking for Juanga to rescue him from his drunken dirge.  He drags his brother off and puts him to bed and then finds Vulga.  La lying Vulga sweetly tries explaining that she never meant to hurt his brother, but she really never has gotten over him, to be downright truthful.  Then she begins to get all touchy-feely with him, thinking to seduce him until suddenly Nata calls out from a couple of feet away.  Chente tries explaining but cannot find the words.  She tells him to forget it; she'll handle this!  "--You want to explain why you were trying to kiss my boyfriend?"  Vulga sneers back.  "--YOUR boyfriend??"  " --In case you don't remember, let me remind you.  We told everyone that we were going to be going steady.  We are in love, Olga.  Let me repeat the words you once said to me: Don't mess with my man!!"  Of course, Mario is watching all of this and looks as if he's throwing up a bit inside his mouth.....)

Jojo tells Regi that her mother doesn't mind if they date.  FF>>FF>>

Vulga replies calmly that if Nata were any kind of female worthy of a man, her husband wouldn't have run off and left her for another woman.  Chente tells her to be more careful about trash talking about Nata.  Nata tells Chente she isn't affected by Vulga's vulgarities.  "--When my husband left me for another woman I learned a valuable lesson: I will defend my man from women like her and like you!  You've been warned."  She and Chente walk away.  Vulga starts after her but Chente pushes her away.  She lets them walk off and says to herself "--Enjoy him while you can, because shortly you'll be DEAD."

A few days or weeks pass.  It's the end of the school year for Benji.  And, Maria Rojo is now the new Magos. One day Chente tells Nata he has a surprise for her for that evening.

Andi has grown a belly.  Oh well, it's a reason to go out and do more shopping.  She tells Conz she cannot believe that in all this time her father hasn't attempted to contact her once.  Connie tells her to forget about Adi; she has her aunt now.  (Well, I guess that works for Andrea.)

Mario somewhere along the way is invited to have a drink with Adi.  Adi hands him over Tania's ashes.  "--The authorities say it was suicide."  Where's Veronica?  Who knows?

Vulga hasn't heard from Ver either.  So, she cannot pay Simba to off Nata.  He tells her in no uncertain terms, either have the money for me by tomorrow or the deal is off, period.

Nata and Magos visit Lucia's graveside.  She tells Lucia how much she cares for both Chente and Benji and wants her approval to become a formal part of the family.  The hummingbird reappears so Viewerville figures Lucia has judged her worthy.

Mario brings Tania's ashes to the rooming house.  He explains his only remaining relative is gone.  The gang gives him their sympathies.

That night Chente surprises Nata with a beautiful romantic getaway weekend.  They decide the time is right to finally christen their relationship and they have the entire night away from everyone and everything in which to do so.....

Jardinera: How did Tania die ?

Sounds like the Body Count will potentially crack 100+.

Hi all! The recap's up. Hoping JudyB is enjoying the spring weather --cherry blossoms, tulips, and daffodils galore along with the rest of us out here on this last day of April. (It's my daughter's 45th birthday, BTW.)

So, Maria Rojo is now officially Dona Magos and Chente and Nata are cementing their sexual relationship. Personally, I don't get it, but different strokes as they say.....Nata is definitely a different person. Do you think Chente and J2P2 will continue on their road to self-improvement for the benefit of Regi and Nata? Who can say.....

Hey, Steve. I think Adrian claims the authorities put down suicide. I suspect Ver and her roses had something to do with it considering she blamed her in part for the loss of their secret passwords to their ever more secret Swiss bank accounts!!

Jardinera, thank you for the outstanding recap.

"they share a couple of 40 ouncers" and "he dumped you cuz you're a dumbass!" (which made me laugh) were just a few favorites.

If Dona Magos truly needed to be recast, Maria Rojo was an excellent choice. I won't say "replace" as Carmen is irreplaceable though and I already miss seeing her smiling face.

Did I not understand or miss how Adrian happened to come in possession of Tania's remains? I did feel badly for Mario as while he hasn't put his best foot forward regarding Natalia his world did come crashing down around him and while we know Tania was not a loss, as he noted she is (was) his only family.

I still sense a bit of snobishness toward Chente from Regina, am I wrong?

Simba can barely talk the talk, he will never walk the walk. I can't wait for him to fall on his face.

"Chente and Nata are cementing their sexual relationship" just seemed "off". I feel Natalia and Chente really rushed things. It would have been a bit more believable had they waited at least 24 hours to declare their love. That said, I'm glad Natalia didn't fall for Andrea's cruel accusations.

Jardinera, always a pleasure. Thank you!

Diana

Fortuna

Jardinera, thank you for another signature snappy recap.Happy Birthday to your daughter .

Wow, Olga has really stepped over the edge as she contemplates killing Nat ....yikes .These characters in novelas who become obsessed over people who don't want them always amazes me .

I dread Adrian returning to make even more trouble and woe for longsuffering Nat with the thankless, spoiled daughter and jealous , selfish sister and nutty Olga who is willing to kill her to get Cbente. Makes you appreciate the people in your own personal real life orbit who have to be less crazy\evil\ violent .

So sad about Carmen . She had a long, lovely career.

Steve Boudreaux: Veronica murdered Tania. She poisoned her wine in Capitulo 46 in revenge for Tania allowing Pedro to access (and take) all their ill-gotten gains.

I believe Regina, rather than being a snob towards Chente, is just super protective of her mother. It hasn't been that long since she was "happily" married and she was devastated by what Adrian did to her. She (Natalia) doesn't really know Chente all that well, so Regina worries because she doesn't want to see her hurt again.

Anon, thank you for your thoughts.

I do hope you are right! I keep thinking that while there is no doubt Andrea is Adrian's child, Regina is as well. Regina is kind and caring though so hopefully she will come round sooner than later.

Diana

Thanks, Jardinera, for the excellent recap. So many parts made me laugh.

In defense of 2XJosé, Uni conveniently cut out a couple of scenes somewhere along the line where he and Regina went to the prep school and found out about/took the entrance exam together so they could enroll together.

The apparition of the iridescent blue hummingbird was a nice magical touch.

It looks like I am alone in thinking it was about time that Natalia and Chente had some alone time together for whatever. We are halfway through! They have to have the motivation and dedication to go through all of the trials and tribulations that I am sure lie ahead. Having sealed the deal just may help.LOL

Diana, ITA about Simba and “I can’t wait until he falls on his face.” either. For me, Carmen Salinas seemed bigger than life in her portrayal of Granny Magos, but I also agree that María Rojo will make an excellent Granny Magos in her own unique way.I just could not believe how tiny she seemed.

Can’t Simba kidnap Olga? I could get behind that.

Anonymous (Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 2:17:00 PM EDT): I didn't remember Veronica actually putting poison in Tania's wine, although it may have been subtly referred to or implied...and if so it wasn't in this episodio #46. Maybe #36? Does anybody remember for sure? She and Tania have played so little part in this past portion of the tn that I simply don't remember it happening.

Diana, Jarifa and Susanlynn: Yes, Maria Rojo is a welcome addition to the cast, but 180 degrees different. She's been rather silent and absent in the scenes here, but then, Carmen was larger than life in this role. It fit her so well. QEPD, Carmen!

Olga is the other side of Andrea, but not bright enough nor cultured enough to become another Veronica. Not that it matters, IMHO. She and Simba=brutal brutes.

Thanks, Jardinera, for this excellent, fun, and snarky recap.

Yeah, when they last had a glass of wine together Verónica really berated Tania, and after Tania had a few swigs Verónica told her she had used this poison before, it works really fast; Tania then had some belly pain and keeled over. Too bad, so sad, bye Tania, here's a yellow rose.

The show must go on, even if we don't. New Granny Magos. Same hummingbird.

Diana, I also wondered about this. OK, Italian authorities conveniently decide it was suicide, but how is it that Adrián got Tania's ashes?

Natalia and Chente, well, I'm certainly glad they pulled the drapes closed   :-)

Andy

I think I enjoyed Carmen Salinas the most in “Mi marido tiene más familia” where she was involved in a romantic triangle with Silvia Pinal as her rival. Talk about funny!

Jardinera- thank you for the recap, it was so much fun to read it.

Diana- in defense of Chente and Nata hitting the sheets the episode indicated that sometime had passed since they first announced that they were dating, the flashforward was followed by a caption that read "tiempo despues"= "some time later", so it seems like they waited a bit to get frisky.

Jardinera, I believe I recapped that episode. Veronica did indeed poison Tania and as she was dying Veronica continued to berate her for being the moron that lost all their money.

Steve- do you like not watch the episodes or read the recaps?

Jarifa, I remember that show. Carmen and Sylvia were both funny .

Yes, I do now remember and Ver threw one yellow rose at her...I think.

Lol ... yes, as Veronica tossed the yellow rose on Tania she said something to the effect "too bad she couldn't put (plant) her (Tania) in her (Vero's) rose garden at home."

Thank you, Jardinera, great recap. It’s going to be hard getting used to a new Granny Magos. Carmen Salinas radiated love for her family, and Natalia. She just fit the part so we’ll.

I think Regina likes Chente but it’s hard for her to watch them kissing or being loving. Which would be pretty normal for a teen watching their mom in a relationship.

It was hard for me to watch Natalia telling Olga to stay away from Chente. I felt she was stooping to Olga’s level. Although she could never go as low as Olga. But there are lots of others that also want the relationship to end.
Liz

I have been noticing and wondering about something in the credits: Edición Literaria, Ma. del Pilar Pedroza.

OK, More or less, literary edition or version, by María del Pilar Pedroza.

But what does this mean? I had two thoughts, perhaps a novelization of the telenovela published for sale. Or perhaps a novelization of some sort for use in the making of the telenovela; a short novel to read and better understand what the telenovela is all about overall, what the motivations of particular characters are, etc., rather than reading and interpreting a script, perhaps prior to starting filming.

I tend to favor the first, a novelization for sale, something to capitalize on the popularity of a particular telenovela.

But does anybody here actually know what it is? It's significant enough that "Edición Literaria Ma. del Pilar Pedroza" gets its own credit "page".

I did a search for Ma. del Pilar Pedroza and got nothing. I should look at some slightly older but very popular telenovelas and search for their "ediciones literarias", if they have such.

JudyB! Judy, I hope you are feeling better and will sometime soon be able to rejoin us.

Judy judy nudy..more echoes...you are loved, adored, treasured , and extremely missed . All the love you always gives comes pouring back to you , dear Amiga !!!! ;)
P.s. autocorrect still believes you are nudy. I give up.

Susanlynn! Better slap that auto correct!! Ahahaha—Jardinera654

OT...Andy, have you found any answers to your question ? Maybe Novelera on the caray Telemundo site would know something. She has been watching telenovelas for awhi!e.

OT

Susanlynn, thanks for the suggestion, I will try Novelera next new Telemundo entry.

I have made a little progress. It seems somewhat common to have an edición literaria, though I have not found any books related to the telenovelas.

One exception is a book by María López Castaño, El secreto de Ángela, a novel based on the Spanish telenovela Gran Hotel which was the inspiration for the Mexican TN El Hotel de los Secretos.

I found this on Amazon, and the reviews were mostly very good, saying it helped understand the telenovela. But at least one reviewer said there were some differences between the novel and the telenovela. To be expected, I suppose. Filming scripts need to be modified sometimes and might not make it into the novelization.

And it showed me that a novelization need not have the same title as the telenovela. Which only makes the search harder   :-)

Andy

Hi Jardinera654, I'm sorry, it was actually in Capitulo 40 where we saw Veronica kill Tania.

Veronica is in London sniffing her Yellow Roses of Doom, Mayhem, and All Bad Things where she reflects back to her upbraiding Tania for her carelessness as Tania cried and begged for forgiveness. After the dressing down, as Tania swears to find the money, Veronica told her she doesn't need to worry about her errors anymore because, as she put it "My poison is very fast, it is not the first time I have used it."
She then took Tania's wine glass from her and Tania grabbed her stomach and coughed and gasped for a couple of seconds before she keeled over dead and Veronica put one of her yellow Rose's on her body with a look of reproach before she headed off to the airport.

Cold woman, our Veronica.

Thankyou, Juju and Anon. Too many novelas and so much input overflow at my age!

O/T Andy: I found something that lists Televisa and her picture/s. Perhaps she is a script editor?

OT

Jardinera, thank you very much, that was a big help! It never occurred to me to look at Televisa. She is listed at Televisa, and also has a LinkedIn account. She is listed at IMDb as "assistant camera" earlier in her career then later as a writer or "story editor".

I think you may be right, it looks like she works on scripts rather "novelizing" a telenovela.

It looks like I'm going to be busy the next week or two, so this will have to go to the back burner. It's not important anyway, I was just curious, although if they were available I might buy a telenovela novelization in Spanish for fun.

Thanks again Jardinera and Susanlynn. Later for this, but if I ever do find some answers I will let you know.

Andy
