Una Pérdida Insoportable
1985, Ranch: Felipe left the birthday party for Mexico City and it looked like a permanent departure.
2005, Ranch: V.Jr was target shooting with a pistol, clearly thinking of his captors. Alejandro tried to get him to calm down. He tried to get him to talk about singing. V.Jr thought back to his father teaching him and he had run out of the room. He was then able to shoot the bottle he aimed at.
They tried to talk to Gerardo, who was taking a phone call from someone named Fermín. They grabbed him and took him outside where V.Sr was busy at the grill. He talked about regretting not being with them enough when they were children. Gerardo talked about getting V.Jr back into dating.
1987: Patricia told baby Rodrigo that his father would return.
2005: V.Sr played the guitar as he and his sons sang by the fire. V.Jr seemed to be drunk. Alejandro tried to encourage him to trust himself. V.Sr also tried to encourage him. They all almost howled like wolves. Refugio was a little weirded out; Alejandra told her not to worry and led her back inside.
The next morning after having slept outdoors V.Sr talked about “We are the earth, under the stars.” Alejandro humored him, Gerardo joked about them all being half drunk. Refugio and Alejandra brought out breakfast.
2020: Dalia asked some questions. V.Jr did not want to talk about his ex, or much else about the past.
2005: Someone – a very attractive woman – talked to V.Sr about a project involving Joan Sebastian. V.Jr was standing outside the den and getting nervous, like he was starting from scratch. After the meeting he talked to her and later took her on a date.
2020: V.Jr talked about this woman (Patricia?) with Dalia. She had seemed interested in him (vs his father) but he was nervous at her questions about himself.
He then admitted to Dalia that he was insecure.
2005: On a bar date he proposed to Patricia and she accepted. He put the ring on her finger.
1988, Ranch: Refugio asked Vicente whether he was thinking about Rodrigo. He told her he was worried about Felipe. He suspected something was wrong because he had a bad vibe.
A few days later Felipe was on his way to meet his son. His three friends drove him to the meeting place and he got out of the car. As he was walking toward the corner another car pulled up. Four men exited the car with various rifles. They opened fire on him, then got back in the car and drove away. Felipe's son arrived just in time to hear his final words.
Meanwhile, Vicente was singing “Por Tu Maldito Amor” to a full house in New York City.
Federico got the call about Felipe. He was speechless.
In Guadalajara Refugio put Alejandra to bed. The phone rang and she answered. It must have been Federico based on her reaction to what we didn't hear.
Vicente was still singing when people held up Mexican flags and cheering. He left the stage and went to his dressing room for the mid-concert break. His dresser told him that Refugio called. He called her back and got the tragic news. A montage of memories assaulted him at this point: the night they were arrested and sang in the jail cell with Federico, the movies, the portrait, the visit to his childhood home, the time he dedicated a concert to him, and finally his 45th birthday party. Then the tears began.
2020: Don Vicente explained to his child self how difficult it was to lose such a good friend. He flashed back to 1988, the last time he saw Felipe. They sang in front of Refugio and Alejandra and thought about the night Alejandro was born when Felipe drove him to the hospital and the two men downed shots of tequila in a salute to this.
Sancar brings Mavi up to Grandpa Efe’s refuge. So, this is where your grandfather hid, she says and puts her arms around his neck. Are we going to hide here, too? Sancar returns a distressed look and shows her the pink folder. We have to talk about this file… about your grandmother. Sedat gave this to you, right, Mavi replies.
Sancar says at first he didn’t believe it, but then Faruk investigated it. A case was opened against you for a serious crime, he tells her, murder. Mavi looks away from Sancar and goes silent. Is this true, he asks? She looks at him and answers, [Turkish] you could have found that out from the court, too. Sancar wants to talk about it and as expected, Mavi doesn’t. She angrily walks out.
Elvan brings soup to Dudu. Awkward. Where’s Gulsiye, Dudu asks, why didn’t she bring the soup? Elvan explains that Gulsiye is sleeping, she needed to rest. Dudu snipes, and you had to bring the soup to poor Dudu, isn’t that so? You’re wrong, Elvan answers, [Turkish] I can bring it. Humanity is not dead. Don’t torment yourself. You are young, you can still be a mother. Dudu takes the tray from Elvan and eats the soup. “Ellerine sağlık” (health to your hands) and thank you, Dudu says sheepishly, you are a good person. Elvan replies, afiyet olsun and leaves.
Elvan runs into Yahya, who is standing outside the room. He says even after what happened, you don’t get angry, with my mother, with me and with Dudu. I’m a very kind person, she replies, that must be the reason everything happened to me. I’ll always support you, Yahya tells her, it doesn’t matter what you want or need. I know I made terrible mistakes, if you want… Elvan raises her hand for him to stop and then she walks away.
Elvan sits in the kitchen and gets a message on her phone. It’s Bora. Did you arrive? Do you need anything? Elvan says, too many things, Bora. I don’t know if you understand me. We are very different. Another message comes from Bora: where are you? I can’t find you. I’m worried. Answer, did something happen? Elvan laughs, everything happened to me. Another message: if you don’t come back soon, I’m coming there.
Elvan jumps up, no, no. Don’t come. She closes the door and calls Bora. Where are you, he asks? I’ve been looking for you all day. And you, Elvan asks, where are you? You’re not on the way, are you? No, I’m in the van, he replies, if you didn’t respond, then I would come. I was very worried. Why are you so worried about me, she asks with irritation? Bora answers he cares about her. He asks, what happened? You ran from here. Is everything okay? Nothing happened, don’t worry, she responds.
Ok, Bora asks, what are you going to do? Are you going to stay with your friend? Elvan says no. What will you do, he asks, are you coming back? Perhaps, I’ll sleep at the mansion, she answers. How can you spend the night there, he says, those people don’t want to see you near that mansion. Or am I wrong? You went to help them and now you will stay? Please don’t overwhelm me, Elvan tells him, I’d like to spend the night alone. She hangs up on him. Looks like Bora’s heading to the mansion.
Dinner at Guven’s. He finishes a call. Seems you were right, Guven tells Sedat. The judge doesn’t want to let Halise Efe go. Guven delights at the thought of Sancar going crazy. Sedat says what will really make Sancar crazy is the file I gave him. Mavi’s file. Sancar has the right to know his wife’s past.
Enter Guven’s BFF, Muge. She says she needed a break from her mother. [Ugh, she lets the slime ball kiss her hand.] He introduces her to Sedat mentioning he’s Mavi’s ex. He tells Sedat [Turkish] Muge Hanım is the psychologist I told you about. [wonder what he said…lol] Muge is surprised by the connection with Mavi’s ex. Guven asks Muge to take a seat. [look at the two gentlemanly psychos, lol]
Guven explains that Melek was the reason for him meeting Sedat. Muge replies, I know you think Sancar is a bad father, but neither I nor Social Services believe that. I know, Guven says, but it’s not about him. It’s about Mavi. Why don’t you listen to what Sedat Bey has to say? Then you can give your professional opinion to the court. You have to know who Sancar’s wife is. Another surprise for Muge. Wife? Yes, his wife, Sedat says, Sancar Bey and Mavi married. I understand him. Mavi is a good at manipulating people.
Why do you say this, Muge asks. Maybe they really love each other. Maybe Sancar does, Sedat replies, but Mavi feels something different than love. No one has diagnosed her before. Sedat says, [Turkish] she has signs of borderline personality disorder. She is an expert in deception. She is smart, successful and well educated. And she is an enormous beauty. Guven interjects, it’s easy to captivate Sancar, he’s a peasant. Muge thinks Sedat might be exaggerating and says, I spoke to Mavi and she didn’t give me that impression.
Guven says, that’s why you should listen to what Sedat has to say. And Sedat asks, when you met Mavi for the first time, did she seem like someone who would murder her grandmother? Excuse me, Muge answers. Sedat nods his head. I can’t believe my granddaughter is with her, Guven adds, and there’s more.
Sedat continues. Mavi was charged in the case but due to lack of evidence, she was acquitted. Even so, if you question her looking her in the eyes, you will be able to decipher the truth. She strangled that woman with her hands. Guven nods and Sedat eats. Muge looks unsettled.
Kavruk comes to Zehra out on the balcony. He asks why she looks so down. He thinks it’s because of Halise’s situation. She says no. Then what is it? Zehra asks Kavruk to close his eyes and listen. He’s wondering what she’s getting at. The silence, Zehra says, the peace around us. Kavruk closes his eyes. Zehra adds, if my mother was here, we wouldn’t have any of this. [Turkish] If life in the mansion doesn’t go the way she wants, then life becomes poison for us. I’m tired of this, Kavruk. I’m tired of trying to love my mother. Should a child have to try and love her mother? Perhaps what I’m going to say is the greatest sin, but I can’t love my own mother. Zehra goes into the house. Did you see that tear fall from Kavruk’s eye?
Sancar enters Grandpa’s room and sees Mavi packing her bag. I’m going home, she says. This is your home, he tells her. I’ll feel much better sleeping in the other house, Mavi replies. Please stay, he asks. This is for the best, she says. Sancar makes his case. You know the situation in the mansion and Melek is here. I can’t go with you, I have to stay. She pointedly tells him, I want to go where you are not. [ouch] Okay, Sancar says, I know you’re angry with me, we have to talk. He asks her to sit. I won’t talk, she answers, how many time do I have to repeat this?
Ok, don’t talk, Sancar asserts, I won’t allow you to go, alright? Because that bastard is out there waiting. You’re safe here! Is that why I have to stay with you, she asks? Stay because you are my wife, he responds. She fires back, so when you find out something, ask your wife first before investigating it with someone else. I told you but you didn’t want to tell me, Sancar replies. You want to know, Mavi asks? Perhaps it’s your attitude and your judgmental look.
Sancar says, Mavi, I’m human. My mind is clouded. There are doubts, doubts are poison! Understand. Then don’t say you trust someone, when in reality you don’t, she tells him. Don’t say we will forget the past and live in the present. What you do and say always contradicts.
I was born in these lands, Sancar tells her, understand? Come. He opens the curtain. That island you see there, I slept there. I know when and where the sun appears during the year. I know the smell of the flowers like I know my own. The only risks I take are with my job. I have never experienced this with other people. The people here know my childhood. This may seem boring to you. [Turkish] But everything I’ve learned about life, ends outside this city. These are the windows of my life. Here you have it. And you are the brightest star I can see through this window.
Sancar continues, I don’t know your kind. I don’t know if you will hurt me or not. I love to learn new things about you. I love you. But when something unknown comes from someone else’s lips, I am upset. It upsets me! I don’t want our life to be full of lies and mysteries. I don’t want there to be secrets. I have a lack in my life greater than love! It’s trust.
Sancar opens the door to go and Kavruk is standing there. Sancar brushes past him without a word. Kavruk tells Mavi the car is ready and leaves. Maybe Mavi will reconsider?
Gulsiye serves Yahya soup. She starts to tell him she had no idea about Dudu. He knows and tells her not to be upset. Elvan comes down the stairs. She takes one look at Yahya and she freezes. She tells Gusiye she just came to say goodbye and heads back upstairs. Yahya tells Gulsiye to tell Elvan that it’s late and she should stay the night. Gulsiye thinks that Elvan’s pride won’t allow that but Yahya feels that if Gulsiye asks, Elvan might consider it. Gulsiye runs to catch Elvan.
Gulsiye grabs Elvan. Why are you running? Elvan tells her, my work is done and I’m leaving. Gulsiye says she did a great job and thanks her. You were a great support. No need to thank me, Elvan says, you’re my sister. Yahya told me to ask you to stay, Gulisye says, I know you would say no, but I had to at least ask. I have to go, Elvan replies, I called a taxi. Gulsiye asks if she’s going to Bora. When Elvan says no, Gulsiye asks if they had a fight. Elvan energetically denies that. Gulsiye walks her out the mansion gate.
Yahya has been spying through the window and he intends to go after the ladies. He’s stopped by Dudu. What’s it going to be now, she asks? Are you going to start harassing her? Don’t start, Yahya replies. What are you doing here, he asks, do you need something? I need you, Yahya, she cries. I need you but you haven’t been here. You ran away. You still love her (Elvan), right?
Yahya calmly answers, you lost your baby. You are sad. You should lie down in the bed, relax. You can’t even say you don’t love her, Dudu replies. You only used me. After all, I couldn’t give you a son, she cries, isn’t that true? You said you loved me but that’s a lie. Do you love me? Yahya just stares at her. Tell me how you feel, she shouts. He stays silent.
Dudu continues, this can’t be happening, she says, it can’t be this simple. Tell me you still love me! I love you, I believed in you, I trusted you, she tells him. I know I made a mistake, but you made them and your mother, too. We can’t forget all that’s happened, desperate Dudu says, we can adopt a baby. Let’s try again. I love you. I beg you, don’t leave me. She grabs onto him and begs. He almost puts an arm around her but thinks twice. Devastated Dudu lets go of him and he quickly leaves.
Gulsiye waits with Elvan outside the gate and Elvan tries to get her to go back inside. You’re not really going to Hacer’s are you, Gulsiye asks? Elvan nods. Oh no, Gulsiye says, did something serious happen? Ah, the taxi is here. Wait, it’s not a taxi, it’s Bora!
What are you doing here, Elvan asks. Get out of here, someone could see you ! Get in, I came to take you back with me, he replies. I won’t go if I don’t know what we are, Elvan says. Why can’t we understand each other, he asks, why can’t you understand my position? Let’s talk. I bought Kokoreç, extra spicy. [lamb intestine stuffed with offal. Susanlynn, this is the stuff Omer & co. ate in KPA] Well, that does the trick. Elvan gets in Bora’s car. Gulsiye happily waves goodbye.
Yahya is outside the mansion. Gulsiye tells him Elvan left. The taxi came, she got in and left. She starts blabbering about it not being a yellow taxi, it was white, different than what we know. It’s alright, he tells Gulsiye, I knew she would leave after all the harm we did. Where did she go, he asks? Gulsiye lies, she went to Hacer. Hacer? Gulsiye clarifies she’s the old neighbor. She’s in town. It’s a safe place, don’t worry. Yahya is satisfied and says he’s leaving. If anyone asks where I am or if I’m with Dudu, tell them I’m at the olive grove and I’ve been there for a while.
Muge takes her leave. She still can’t believe this. If Sancar knows about the murder, how can he keep Mavi near Melek? It’s not Sancar’s fault, Sedat says, I understand. Mavi had me under her spell for years. She has a bewitching effect on men. Now do you understand, Guven says to Muge, Melek is in danger. No, I won’t allow her to be hurt, Muge replies. I will write a report immediately. Guven is grateful [that Muge is such a gullible fool] Muge leaves.
Sancar has had a lot of time with that file, Guven says, but he hasn’t done anything. What if they don’t break up? Do you have a plan B? I’m a good lawyer, Sedat replies, I always have a plan B.
Sancar sits out on the porch and Mavi comes to him. Sancar is surprised she hasn’t left. I’m still here she says, I see for you “trust comes before love”. [That’s the title of Turkish ep 45] You’re right, she admits, I think it’s important. But when I trusted people, and showed them my wounds, they used it as a weapon against me. Including Sedat. He used my suffering and pain against me over the years. He used it to control me. He dared to show you the file. He even sent this file to the board of directors of the company I worked for. Can you believe it?
Mavi asks, do you know why I didn’t tell you anything? I didn’t dare. I couldn’t. It’s not easy for me to say this. When I was 19, they taught me to listen and not speak. That’s how I was raised.
Bora and Elvan are back at the van. He notes that Elvan couldn’t eat the kokoreç fast enough. She has crumbs on her lips and cheeks. He wipes her face with his hand. She laughs. You are very beautiful, he tells Elvan. He slides the van door open. She says, you told me you would leave after bringing me, or am I wrong? Yes, that’s true, he replies, but I want to sleep here. Yes, but I don’t want that, Elvan says, I want to spend the night alone, I’m sorry. Okay, Bora answers, but you have to tell me what happened? Something bad or what? Nothing bad, she says it’s cold, I better go to sleep. Good night, and she slides the door shut.
Mavi says, I told you Sancar. My mother and grandmother raised me. I didn’t know my father. I was a baby when he left my mother and went abroad with another woman. My mother always blamed my grandmother for this. She said my father couldn’t stand her so he left. I don’t know if that was true or if that was something my mother made up to find comfort. On my ninth birthday, my mother and grandmother had a big argument. [Turkish] my grandmother had a stroke. We see a flashback of little Mavi taking care of her grandmother.
Mavi continues, my grandmother was the person I loved most in the world. She was kind, beautiful, strong and loving. I became closer to her because of her illness. I took care of her, no one else did. People were afraid of illness. They don’t want to see their loved ones sick. My mother started working longer hours. My aunt and her children stopped coming to care for her. They all distanced themselves from her. Sometimes they didn’t visit for months, later it was years.
Every day I came home early to take care of my grandmother after school, while other girls went out to play or went out with boyfriends, Mavi says. I couldn’t meet with anyone, I had to take care of my grandmother. My grandmother became stressed. When I started university, she became severely depressed.
Flashback. Grandma asks Mavi not to bother changing her IV. Let me die, she says, I’d rather die. Don’t say that, Mavi replies, what would I do if you die? Enjoy your life, grandma says, I beg you. I’m useless. I can’t do anything without your help. I’m destroying your youth. Leave me. I’m asking you to kill me. Kill me, please, I beg you. Do it. They both cry.
Mavi says, she couldn’t sleep that night. I called my cousin and told her what happened. Then I wrote a letter for my mother and aunt: “come and take care of your mother. My grandmother feels bad, she wants to die.” I kept a diary, I wrote that Firuze Erol was suffering and wanted to die. I wrote if I could ease her pain, I would. That night… my grandmother died. We see the flashback of Mavi arriving and finding her grandmother dead.
My aunt came in the morning, Mavi remembers. She was suspicious because of the letter I wrote. My cousin told her that I had killed her. My mother took my diary as evidence. I was taken to the police at my young age. My aunt reported me. I was very scared, I couldn't say anything. The fiscal decided to open a case because of my silence. Everything was revealed in the autopsy. I told Sedat about this at the beginning of our relationship. I thought that when one loved someone, it’s possible to open your heart. It was a lie. Later, Sedat used this against me. That’s why I don’t trust anyone. No one trusted me. Not even my own family trusted me. Why would anyone else? Tell me. Mavi gets up from the table.
Sancar gets up, too, and grabs her hands. I trust you, Mavi. I hoped you would believe me before I told you, she replies. He says, with you, I learned to trust other people. I couldn’t even trust my mother. [with good reason] I know you understand. There hasn’t been a time when I questioned your trust in me. [but she judged him when she found out about Nare] He asks, one day, if something happens, will you believe me? She says she will. The day I met you, I trusted you with my dreams, she tells him. I was most vulnerable. Before I loved you, I trusted you. Me, too, he says. Don’t forget his, she replies. Do you forgive me, he asks? She nods. Kiss. He calls her my beautiful woman.
And we are out.
Thanks, Dondi, great retelling of a good episode. I was so mad when Muge just listened to Sedat and Guven. She has got to be the worst psychologist ever! And it sounds like she’s going to send in a report on their Say so. She makes me so angry.
It seems like Dudu does love Yaya-maybe! I think they’ll end up back together.
Poor Zehra, loving the silence because her mother is not there.
Elvan really makes it hard for Bora. Most men would have given up by now!
Liz
Dear Dondi, thank you so much for every detail as our story starts spinning and twisting . Uh oh .
Well, Mavi's past is even sadder than we knew. Her baggage seemed to be an abusive husband and a lost chi!d , but now we learn about her unhappy childhood. Her story is more complicated and tragic than we suspected, and she has more to cope with than her extra crazy ex.
Was that Tuba in flashback or a different actress ? I didn't think it looked like Tuba. ..close but not Tuba. ????
Muge is extra stupid to continue to hang around Guven...and now his houseguest Sedat. Well, let us not forget that Muge had an affair with awful Akin while supposedly being Nare's friend . Have we forgotten her holding Akin captive in her bathroom ? Muge is cracked .
I hope that the writers do not let Ya get Elvan back . Elvan deserves some happiness.

Part 1 of 2
2020, Ranch: Dalia asked V.Jr why his father did not assist at Felipe's funeral.
1988: Refugio and her sons arrived at the funeral with bouquets and a large standing wreath. She embraced Federico and listened to his sadness. She had to tell Felipe's family that Vicente was in New York. Felipe's son was particularly upset. Refugio conducted herself in the proper manner, knowing that her husband's way of dealing with grief and loss was to work harder.
2020: Dalia asked V.Jr whether there had been some other reason his father was absent. V.Jr replied that he did not know.
1988: Gerardo brought up the possibility of an investigation; Refugio was not in favor of this. In New York, Vicente cried alone in his hotel room. Federico flew in to see him. Federico was feeling lost and falling into depression. His marriage was not going well and he mentioned divorce. Vicente told him that life had to go on and they had to go forward. It felt like “Fake it 'till you make it.” Vicente imagined Felipe telling him to go on and imagined seeing his parents again. The ghosts disappeared, leaving him alone again.
Refugio told her children they all needed to help their father, who then arrived home.
2020: Don Vicente told Dalia that he felt an even greater pain three days later.
1988: Federico wrote out a letter with a fountain pen., smoked, and drank a snifter of cognac.
Vicente visited Patricia and Rodrigo in Jalisco. When she expressed her condolences about Felipe he told her that the worst thing about this was that the police don't know who killed him. He had decided to cut back on work for a while for his family's sake. She wanted to resume their relationship, but he declined. He needed tranquility. She stepped away from him.
Federico raised the pistol and shot himself. His blood sprayed over the desk, including the photo frame before he fell onto the desk and the note he had written.
Vicente must have been notified almost instantaneously because he hurried to Mexico City and went right past the police to the scene. He got to the office and saw Federico dead across the desk. He could not believe what he saw. He thought back to the night in the jail cell. When he went home it was pouring rain. He told Refugio he did not want to go to the wake. She reminded him how that would look to others and that he needed to be an example. He had always put his emotions into his singing that he needed to express elsewhere. They stared out at the rain.

Part 2 of 2
1979: Vicente and Felipe recorded Federico's song about roosters. Vicente defended it when the recording exec didn't like the song.
1988: Vicente talked about Federico's problems. Later on Raúl Velasco's show he spoke of Felipe and Federico as his brothers. He sang Federico's biggest hit “Por Tu Maldito Amor.” As he got to the last line the tears began and he could not continue. The audience was very understanding.
There was archive footage of Vicente talking about this long friendship and Federico talking about he was “dead in life,” which he had later written in his suicide note.
2020: Dalia asked him about Blanca Guerra.*
1985, movie set: Just before shooting a bedroom scene Vicente was coming on to her and she told him she respected his wife, so they would only be friends. When the director wanted to shoot neither looked much in the mood for this. They later had a conversation about his womanizing and his apparent preference for strong women.
1989: Refugio decided that Rodrigo should live with them. Patricia later told Vicente that she didn't like this, which was a complete about-face.
1985: Vicente told Blanca that he didn't want Refugio to work. Blanca tried to communicate to him that times were changing.
Archival interview footage of an interview where Vicente said that Federico was a very positive person.
Shortly after this he sat at Federico's grave with a flask. He had a vision of his two friends, both dressed in white. He drank to them, saying they would always be at his side. Then they vanished and he walked out of the cemetery. No other mourners were visible anywhere in it.
*The same Blanca Guerra from Abysmo de Pasión and Velo de Novia.
Urban, you captured the devastation and desperation of both episodes perfectly. Your recaps are works of art.
So many powerful lines but for some reason "The ghosts disappeared, leaving him alone again" lingered.
Thank you for the information on Blanca Guerra. What a marvelous actress.
Diana
Thank you Dondi for another fantastic recap!! This was a very interesting episode!!
It's been said, but I agree that it's weird Muge would trust Guven knowing how he treated Nare and knowing he was Akim's sidekick! And then to just decide Mavi is guilty without any proof and she is going to write a report without so much as asking Sancar??? Of course no one likes communication around here so he probably wouldn't tell her anything if she did ask...
I find it just crazy that Mavi thought (in the beginning) that they could just live in the moment and not talk about the past ie. That time she was accused of murder. Not talk about past relationships, sure; not mention former lovers, or school pranks, or I don't even know what, sure; but that time you were accused of killing your grandma??? That is not something you just don't talk about and it was unreasonable to be mad at Sancar for mentioning it. I am glad she changed her mind and told him.
I don't think Elvan is too hard on Bora at all. He wants to play it casual and she wants to know where they stand. Neither one of them is wrong, but just like Bora doesn't have to define things just because she wants him too, Elvan doesn't have to go with the flow just because he wants her too. She needs to feel valued and he needs to feel like he's not rushing into disaster, they will either find common ground or implode but I actually think it's great that Elvan is sticking to her guns and not folding under the pressure to be nice and give up what she needs just so she is easy to get along with. It's better that they both know where they stand.
Thanks, Dondi.
Yay, Mavi and Sancar talk it out.
Elvan and Gulsiye are so funny. Elvan, of course with your cryptic responses Bora would come to see if you're okay. I'm all Team Bora.
So Dudu plans to just stay there? Awkward.
Yes, Muge is a pitiful psychiatrist. She knows Guven and now Mavi's ex are not impartial. She knows what hell good friend Nare went through with Guven. I hope Sancar hires a rival psychiatrist to plead his case. IIRC, Sancar is the one who found a crazed Muge keeping Akin bound and captive without toilet facilities.
I think Zehra does love her mother despite all. That's why she feels bad about feeling free with her mom in jail. Zehra, maybe you love her but just don't like her.
Muge is indeed the worst psych. Ever, and I thought Dr. Phil was bad, but anyhow she is like psych lite..
Sedat..really? If you look in her eyes you can see the truth. No you can't dumbass that is how grifters grift. Muge is sitting there listening to him and she is falling for the same thing Sedat says Mavi does.
Muge could have her license revoked by Nare because of her Akim deception. Ugh.
Glad my most awesome headbutting hero made up with Mavi..but I see much more turmoil down the road to the garden of HEA.
Also not to be mean but for the love of all that is holy..get those sad orthopedic shoes off your feet. I would be fine with some ankle boots with plenty of buckles. Doc Martens would be fine as you know how to bring the funk.

Gracias, Diana. I have been very concerned about the quality of my recaps of this series because I've been unable to watch the episodes more than once due to the posting issues by Univision. There are also sound issues in the episodes where it's sometimes impossible to understand the dialogue.
What I am concluding here is that Vicente Fernandez had many issues due to his family of origin and his unwillingness to turn to psychiatry. His mother was the one bright spot in his childhood and he did lose her too soon, but workaholism is not a permanent solution to dealing with grief, anxiety, or anything else but poverty and competition. Family secrets are also a serious burden that Refugio and their children also became stuck with.
I will be writing up conclusions about this to post after the recap of the finale, which is on Monday. We are getting 3 fewer episodes than Mexico had. While I missed episode 9 here because Univision never posted it I have the feeling that the edits made by Univision were mostly the ugliest details of Vicente Jr's kidnapping which dominated the first three episodes seen in Mexico.
Oh, I am just soooo glad that this novela does not rely on coincidences or people constantly meeting as if CDMX were a small town :-)
What a bunch of characters! Now doña Maty wants to "try before you buy" and poor Jaime looks uncomfortable.
The kidnapping was indeed hilarious. And poor Marcia when she recognized Luis' voice, she wound up sitting with a pillow to protect herself. She's one of my favorite characters. I loved her and Chabela dissing Luis.
I really don't know what to think about Sofía and Ignacio. She does seem taken with him although I'm not sure why, and Melody really loves her daddy Mario. We'll see how this shakes out, lots of episodes to go.
I almost feel sorry for Andrea, the way things are going. But, seriously, I keep wondering: how could she possibly have a thing with René? How could his secretary? How could even a hooker, even if he approached her with a huge wad of $100 bills in his teeth? Nope, not a fan of René.

Halise and her two younger cellmates get ayran and a sandwich. Halise makes a face at her meal and one of the mates says, if that’s too much for you, teyze… and she grabs at the sandwich. Halise throws the sandwich and grabs the two women, one by the hair the other by the wrist. They struggle to break free and shout to let go.
The more you move, Halise growls, the more it will hurt. It seems you don’t know me. You think I’m a poor defenseless old lady, but no. Know your place. And think better before you attack me. I am a sharecropper’s woman, Halise Efe. Pay attention, I am no idiot. Good, now you know my name. They shout we understand. You’re Halise Efe! She lets them go and straightens her coat. [I can’t stand Halise, but this was impressive]
They cut: Melek is up in Grandpa’s room, going through Mavi’s bag, looking for her red lipstick. She dumps out the bag and there’s the marriage certificate. Melek opens it and sees the pics of Mavi and her father. She doesn’t look happy. She takes the cert and leaves the room and heads downstairs, where everyone, including Dudu, is at the table for an uncomfortable breakfast.
Sancar greets his daughter and she walks right over to him with the cert. It says here that you and Mavi are married. Shocked looks all around. Sancar and Mavi don’t know what to say.
We go to breakfast at the van by the lake. They cut the beginning where Bora makes and serves the omelet with special herbs he says he gathered from the mountain.
Elvan tastes the omelet and says it’s delicious. How did you make it? He answers, why aren’t we novios? [in the Turkish he said, be my lover] Elvan chokes and coughs. Drink water! What did you say, she asks? He replies, [Turkish] Be my beloved. My girlfriend. The one I exchange glances with… the one I meet with…. Ok, she stops him, don’t continue, I get the point.
He asks, and? She says okay. Okay, what, he asks? Okay, I will, I’ll be your beloved and everything you said, she responds. From now on, he says, you and I are lovers. I hope I don’t have to spend the night outside. Will you leave this galan outside to be eaten by the wolves? Tell me. Come closer, she says, I’m going to tell you something. She whispers, that won’t happen until we are married. I’m your beloved now. What will people say? He laughs, you are a beautiful and wonderful woman. She makes a kissy face.
Back to breakfast at the mansion. Dad, did you get married? Sancar is worried, he babbles, look, my love, Mavi… uh… are you mad at me, he asks? Of course I am, Melek replies, I wasn’t invited. Sancar is somewhat relieved. You’re upset because you didn’t go? Yes, she says, obviously I wanted to go. I wanted to see the wedding dress. I wanted to pick the flowers. Sancar smiles and hugs his daughter.
We forgot about the bride’s bouquet, he tells Melek, because you were not there. Can you forgive us for not inviting you? Mavi says it wasn’t a big and beautiful wedding as you think. Your father and I just signed a paper and that’s it. Do you think you can forgive us? I forgive you, Melek says, but don’t you think it would have been nice to dance a zeybek? Mavi gives a puzzled look at Sancar.
No time for Sancar to explain. Yahya gives his congrats to the newlyweds. Be happy, you deserve it. Dudu gives Yahya a sad look. Zehra gets up and says, I assumed this when I saw the ring on Mavi’s finger. She hugs Sancar and gives her best wishes. She congratulates Mavi. Sancar says that Halise already knows. Mavi says she wishes Halise were here. [be careful what you wish for] We see Sedat lurking around the mansion, cutting an apple with a knife. Creepy
Breakfast is done and the family of three leave for the day. Sancar says they will go to register Melek first and then go visit grandma Halise. Mavi says they can go see Halise, she will stay back. Melek objects and wants Mavi to come because they are all family now. My grandmother will be very happy, she says. Sancar says it’s important for us to be family, but your grandmother is sad now. Even if she wants to be happy, she can’t. Melek insists her grandmother will be happy. Sancar decides to leave that alone for now. They head off in the truck. Sedat is watching.
Slight cut at the beginning. Gulsiye goes into the cursed bedroom and starts packing Dudu’s things. What are you doing, Dudu asks? Gulsiye reminds her sister that Yahya told her to leave. Dudu tells her you also have a sister. Gulsiye ignores her and keeps packing.
Dudu pushes her sister and asks, what have I done to you? You did this as a child. As soon as they took you to the mansion, as soon as you crossed the threshold of this house, everything changed. I was left behind. You didn’t even turn around to look back at me. Gulsiye says it wasn’t like that at all. Then how was it, Dudu asks? Gulsiye doesn’t answer and packs more clothes. Dudu takes them from her and says, I can do this, get out! Ok, Gulsiye says, I know that’s what you want to think. She leaves.
Dudu gets a call from Ahmet. She asks him to leave her alone. Let me speak and you listen, he says. I’m going to forget everything. My humiliation, my pain. I’ll do it for you, Dudu. After everything you put me through, I forgive you Dudu. You have no future in that place. Don’t you realize? Come with me, Dudu. Please come. [Ahmet must be crazy but, yes, Dudu, please go.] What will teary Dudu decide?
Family of three show up at the school. Sedat has followed them. Melek and Sancar walk through the gate, but Mavi stops. She might be having memories of Ekim. Melek turns around to look at her and calls out, “anne” (mother) and holds out her hand. Come. Mavi snaps out of it, walks over and takes Melek’s hand. Mavi and Sancar manage meaningful smiles. Sedat looks upset. I think he hears Ekim calling for her mother. This is not good.
Gulsiye comes back to Dudu’s room. You’re not finished with your bag? Hurry. Dudu faces her sister and says, I don’t plan to leave the mansion. Since Halise Anne brought me here, no one can kick me out until she comes back and asks me to leave. She’s not your MIL anymore, Gulsiye says. We were already dishonored, don’t dishonor us more. Don’t complicate the situation. Dudu is defiant, she sits on the bed.
They cut: Yahya speaking with Kavruk and Zehra. Yes, I decided I will go to my Elvan, he says, if need be, I will fall at her feet. I will ask her to forgive me! I will tell her: “I did not see that you are a good woman. I made a mistake, but you shouldn’t.” He adds, Sancar Abi got married. How good that he started a family. May their happiness be eternal.
Yahya notes, hey Kavruk, you are the only one left. Don’t waste your time. Your time has come. Yahya looks over at smiling Zehra. He moves in close to Kavruk and says, but you have my sister. Yayha takes off. As soon as he leaves, Zehra’s smile does, too. She grabs a blanket and heads out to the balcony.
Kavruk follows the miffed Zehra out on the balcony. Where are you going, my beauty? Don’t go from me, he says. I only came out to get fresh air, she replies, what do you want? I inherited land from my grandfather, he says, I sold it. Really, she asks, why? I did it for you, he tells her, for both of us. [Turkish] If I appear before your mother and brothers and say I want to marry you, there will be a scandal.
He continues, you were right, Zehra. I finally understood, he says, knocking on his head. We will miss out on our lives while we wait, wait, wait for the lives of others to be calm. We must take charge of our own desires. And I said to myself, [Turkish] “Kavruk, you are not an ordinary man. You are successful. You did the hardest thing in this world, you made the star, Zehra, say yes. You took her from the sky and put her in your heart.” When you say so, he tells Zehra, I will immediately go ask your mother for your hand. Let’s celebrate our wedding. They hug and she says, I accept. We will have a wedding. More hugging.
Sedat is still lurking outside the school, when #MavSanMel exit. He seethes as he watches the affectionate family. Voices play in his head, Ekim calling her mother, Mavi saying I detest you. Stay away from Sancar, leave us alone. Sedat spins his knife in his hand. Uh, oh. [Hercai viewers, notice Sedat does that Miran pufferfish face?]
Yahya comes to town with a big bouquet of flowers. As he walks, he practices what he will say to Elvan. [Turkish] “Elvan, please come home. Let’s start over.” That’s not possible, he thinks. “I’m not asking you to forgive me right away.” That won’t work either, he says. “Give us a chance. Give us both a chance.”
We see Elvan cheerfully working in her shop. Bora comes rushing in with a tickle attack. Hello beautiful healer woman! Elvan tries to fend him off, what are you doing?! You scared me! Did you miss me, Bora asks? Don’t tickle me, Elvan pleads. Yahya walks up to the shop and watches as the new novios continue their playful fight. Poor Yahya looks heartbroken. [you blew it, dude]
The family of three exit the grounds and there’s Sedat. He calls out, Efeoglu family! How are you? He stands in their way. Mavi tells him to leave. Don’t interfere, he tells her, I’m talking to your dear husband. Right, Sancar Efe? Sancar keeps it together and tells Sedat, step aside brother, look, my daughter is here. Leave. Mashallah, Sedat replies, I also had a daughter, I was a father. But this woman took that away from me.
Sedat continues, don’t take your marriage for granted. The present can be altered by the past. Sancar is ready to get into it but thinks of Melek. He warns Sedat not to provoke him, his daughter is watching. Sancar says, walk, Mavi, let’s go. They start walking and Sedat grabs Sancar, turns him around and asks, what if I break your face? Sedat sucker punches Sancar.
That’s it. Sancar grabs Sedat by the collar and gives him the patented Efe headbutt. He pushes Sedat against the wall and grabs him by the throat. Sancar shouts, who do you think you are?! A crowd gathers. Mavi is holding Melek in her arms. The girl calls out for her dad. I warned you, Sancar shouts, leave me alone! Who do you think you are! Sancar threatens to kill Sedat.
Sedat takes the blade out of his pocket. He yells out, drop the knife! What knife?! Sancar shouts back. Are you going to kill me, Sedat shouts so the crowd can hear. What are you talking about, Sancar says. In a sick move, Sedat stabs himself in the gut. Sedat makes sure that Sancar’s hand is on the knife as he falls to the ground. Now Sancar is left standing with the knife in his hand. Melek and Mavi are watching.
People are talking, is that Sancar Efe? He stabbed him! Call an ambulance! Sancar is in shock, still holding the bloody knife. Melek calls out, Dad! And she hugs Mavi tight. Sancar drops the knife and shouts for someone to call an ambulance. This was the end of Turkish ep 45.
Mavi approaches. Sancar tells her, I didn’t do it. You saw, didn’t you? Sancar, you have to go, she says. But I told you I didn’t do it, he replies. I trust you, Mavi says, but listen, you have to leave. I’m sure Sedat planned this. He’s a lawyer. I will find out what happened, I swear. I’ll take care of it. We don’t have time, Sancar. Please go.
Melek runs to her dad, please listen to Mavi. You have to go. I’m not a coward, Sancar asserts. But you have to leave to save yourself, Mavi tells him. Go to a place where nobody knows you until we get this resolved. I’ll take care of this. [Turkish] Melek and your family are entrusted to me.
Yahya is still watching Elvan and Bora. He gets angry and throws the bouquet and marches into the store. Elvan, what are you doing?! Who is this man? He looks at Bora, what are you doing here? I don’t have to answer, Bora replies, why did you come here? You can’t talk to me like that in front of my wife, Yahya says, don’t try my patience. Get out of here.
Do you really think it’s that easy to get rid of me, Bora answers. Yahya grabs Bora’s collar. You don’t know who you are talking to. Get out of my sight now or I’ll kill you. Watch your words, don’t mess with me. Elvan steps in to break it up. Don’t cause any problems, she tells Yahya, that’s enough!
No worries, Elvan, Bora calmly says, this is normal. Your ex is angry. I won’t tolerate your nonsense, Yahya says, still holding on to Bora’s shirt. Elvan and I are recently divorced. I am her family. What do you want from my woman, idiot? I am her boyfriend, Bora replies. Yahya hauls back and is ready to strike, but Elvan intercedes. Stop! That’s enough! Let him go! Leave him alone! Elvan shouts, you can’t come to my business when you want and do what you want! If you don’t go, I’ll call the police!
Is this how you behave now, Yahya admonishes. What do you expect, she replies. You are selfish. You did what you wanted, but I can’t, Yahya?! You were the one who asked me for a divorce, she reminds him. You left me, in this case, you should not care what I do where and with whom! I’ll take care of my honor. Don’t interfere! It’s my life!
Yahya says that Elvan is making a serious mistake. He is not at your level. I know you still hurt from what happened and you’re confused. That’s why you’re acting like this. This isn’t the solution. Even if that’s so, it’s my business, Elvan answers, get out. Yahya heads for the door, glaring at Bora. Elvan breaks down in Bora’s arms. Don’t cry, he comforts her, I’m with you. You did the right thing, calm down.
Sancar Efe is on the run and on the phone. He’s trying to call Yahya and it goes to vm. Listen, I need your help. Call Faruk immediately…
Cut to the crime scene and Sedat is loaded into an ambulance. The cops have the bloody knife. Mavi comforts Melek. I’m very scared, the girl says, will that man die? No, love, Mavi answers, don’t worry. Mavi calls a cop over, can we leave now? He tells her she can leave after she gives her statement. Please hurry, she asks, I want to take my daughter home.
This is bad, Melek worries, what will we do? That man will die and my father will never come back. Don’t think like that, Mavi tells her, everything will be alright. Melek repeats she’s scared. I know, I understand, Mavi reassures her, I’ll take care of you. We will fix this.
The cops speak with the witnesses. A woman says, he collapsed on the ground. Did Sancar stab him? The woman says she doesn’t know. A man says Sancar was holding the knife.
Guven is in his van. The report comes in Sancar and Sedat had a fight and Sedat was stabbed. He’s been taken to the hospital. And Sancar, Guven asks? They said that Sancar escaped and the police are looking for him. Take me to the hospital, Guven orders. He calls Muge. Are you at the hospital? I’m ok, but I need your help. I’m on my way.
The cops come over to Mavi. The cop says if you tell us where your husband is, you can go. I told you many times, she says, I don’t know. My answer won’t change if you keep asking. We want to take the girl’s statement, the cop says, we can do it at the station.
Mavi asks the cops to step away with her. She tells them that Melek has been affected by the situation. If you have children you’d understand. Let us go. Our lawyer will contact you. And I’d like to have a psychologist participate when you take Melek’s statement. [anyone but Muge, please] If you arrange this, call and we will come.
The cops agree to Mavi’s terms. You can go home but call us immediately if Sancar contacts you. You will be in serious trouble if you help a criminal. You could go to jail. My husband is innocent, Mavi says. You will be sorry when they prove his innocence. Faruk and Yahya show up. Faruk goes off to speak with the cops. Melek greets her uncle. She tells him that terrible things happened. Yahya tells her, you are an Efeoglu, we are very strong. You know your father. He will get out of this. Your uncle Yahya will protect you. You shouldn’t be afraid.
Yahya speaks with Mavi. My brother left me a message and I came when I could. Don’t worry, we will be fine. The cops ask Yahya if he knows where Sancar is. How could I know, he replies, I wasn’t even here. Can I take my SIL and niece? The cop says ok, and he will be in touch with Faruk.
Mavi asks Faruk if there’s any news. Is that bastard still alive? Yes. Let’s hope nothing will happen to him otherwise Sancar’s case will get complicated.
Guven meets Muge outside the hospital. He asks if she’s seen Sedat. He arrived a short while ago, Muge replies, they are tending to him. Guven is very upset. Do you see? He is a criminal! It’s unacceptable! He stabbed him without mercy. Muge can’t understand how Sancar would be capable of this. Guven calls Muge naïve. [lol] You can’t see there’s so much evil in Sancar. Muge tries to get Guven to calm down. She’ll try to get more info.
Cops swarm the Efeoglu mansion looking for Sancar. Zehra tells them to leave, Sancar is not there. Kavruk tells her to stay calm and let the police do their job. Zehra is frantic. She asks Kavruk, where is my brother? What happened? I’m very worried. Tell me what you know. Calm down, Kavruk says, you know I’d give my life for your brother, I’ll never let anything happen to him. I’ll find out. Stay calm. Zehra goes on about how these things always happen to them…etc. Kavruk hugs her as she cries.
One cop mentions they found a signal from Sancar’s phone. It looks like he’s trying to leave town. The other says there are roadblocks set up. We see one of the roadblocks. A truck approaches and a cop says the signal is coming from there. They stop the truck. The cop at the mansion gets that info and Kavruk and Zehra panic. The truck is checked, and it turns out that it’s only Sancar’s phone in the truck.
The cop at the mansion says to question the driver. Mavi, Yahya and Melek return to the mansion. The cop leading the investigation at the mansion is ticked about the trick Sancar pulled with the phone. Before they leave, the cop says Sancar is making a big mistake, and they all are, too, by helping him.
Mavi explains what happened to Kavruk and Zehra. They are shocked. What can we do to help Sancar, Kavruk asks? Yahya says Sancar left him a message for everyone. Let’s meet out on the porch. We have to be careful no one hears.
Faruk joins the family meeting. Yahya plays the message from Sancar: I need you help. Call Faruk immediately. Yahya, I was set up and the police are on my trail. I can’t come back until I am cleared. I can’t let things turn out the way the bastard intended. Mavi and Melek are in town, the police are there, go get them. Mavi will tell you everything. Just don’t try to call me, okay? (We see Sancar leaving the message as he walks) She will tell you everything. Mavi’s words are my words. I won’t have my phone. I’m going to drop it so they can’t track me down. First I entrust you to Allah, then to each other. We will survive these days, too, inshallah. We see Sancar looking at the truck where he ditched his phone.
You heard the message, Yahya says. He tells Mavi she is the leader. My brother did what’s right. We have to do exactly as he asked. It was a good decision to leave you in charge. You are in charge of the house until he returns. We’re listening, Kavruk says to Mavi, what do we do? Mavi asks Gulsiye to take Melek inside.
Mavi says Melek should be their priority. She is worried about her father. We should act as normal as possible so she won’t be afraid. Yahya asks how will we clear this up? Faruk says unfortunately, the witnesses are against us. I expected that, Mavi says, that’s why Sedat did this in public. I’m sure he calculated every step. I’m sure he arranged the security cameras. He might have even bribed people. If someone has another video of the scene, another camera, it could show that Sancar is innocent.
Kavruk asks if Mavi could see when Sedat was stabbed. No, she couldn’t. But you said Sancar didn’t do it, Kavruk says. He would have told me if he did it, Mavi replies, don’t you think? I was just making sure, Kavruk answers. Faruk says the cameras are a good idea, but we need men to investigate. Yahya tells Kavruk to gather the men. Review the cameras in the stores. People are cautious these days. Someone should have a camera at an angle that will show what really happened. There’s no time to lose. Let’s go.
Faruk says there’s something else. Halise will be taken to court. He tells Yahya, I came to get you. Yahya says he can’t deal with that now. Mavi encourages him to go. Your mother will get sad when she doesn’t see your brother. You should accompany her. Ok, he relents, only because you are asking me. Yahya leaves with Faruk.
Kavruk laughs, [Turkish] you are really an Efe woman. Even Sancar couldn’t convince his brother like that. He asks if she knows where Sancar is. I don’t know, she replies, but I will look for him today. You know better than I do, Kavruk. Where do you think he could be? Kavruk answers, [Turkish] if you are interested in my opinion, then he went where all the Efeler go. He motions with his eyes in a certain direction.
Then he asks if there is anything else he can do. She says there is something special she’d like him to help her with. First, find out about Sedat’s condition. And I’d like you to teach me to ride a horse. Excuse me, he asks? She repeats, teach me to ride a horse. And, for your information, I’ve never done it before. I’m planning on taking a ride with Gece tonight. Kavruk’s face lights up, you said Gece? Mavi shushes him.
But to do something like this in one day, Kavruk tells her, I don’t think it’s possible. We have no option, Mavi replies. Let’s do it, Kavruk says.
And we are out.

El Heredero
Part 1 of 2
1989, Ranch: Refugio tried organizing a birthday party for Vicente only be insulted by the people she was looking to hire. Gerardo overheard the man call Refugio “una inútil” so he entered the room and slugged him. Vicente came home a little while later with a pair of very expensive earrings for her. They were worthy of a queen. She was initially impressed, then uncomfortable. “We are simply people,” she told him. She did put them on, however. They looked like fugitives from the Crown Jewels.
2020: Dalia quoted someone who had a very misogynistic view of women.
1989: Vicente emphasized that he didn't want Refugio to work, saying she needed to be protected. He had been told what happened that day. She was not pleased with his pronouncement, She walked away without a response and took off the earrings. They spoke again later and this time he succeeded in getting her into bed.
He gifted her with a brand new car, promising that he and the boys would teach her how to drive. Alejandro got into the passenger seat next to her and Vicente handed her the keys. She became nervous as she started the car. Alejandro started explaining what to do, but she was scared to death while driving around the ranch's parking area. [There was no accident, but how did she get around before this? – Auth.]
1991, Jalisco: Patricia agreed to allow Rodrigo to live with his father. However, she had two conditions. She had to be allowed generous visitation, including when she was on location.
The second was that they resume their relationship. It did not require much persuasion.
Alejandro and America were getting it on and then decided that their wedding would be in one month.
As Patricia and Vicente continued canoodling in the bathtub. She began to cry and told him how much she loved him. [Why was I getting a bad vibe at this? – Auth.]
While Vicente grilled the meat Alejandro told his parents that he and America were getting married next month. Refugio was concerned about them getting married so young; Vicente said they also had married young and was happy for them. Shortly thereafter Vicente announced that Rodrigo would be coming to live with them. Gerardo was quick to say that this would cause issues. There was no time to talk about this as the boy arrived in the company of his mother who looked at Refugio with scant (if any) respect. Refugio looked her straight in the eye and told her they needed to talk. Ahora.
The awkwardness of the situation seemed intensified when Vicente opened a large box and presented Rodrigo with his first traje de charro. His children caught the meaning of this gesture.
El Heredero
Part 2 of 2
Refugio told Patricia she could have had someone else bring Rodrigo to them. She replied that she wanted to see the ranch. Refugio told her that this would be the last time she would every set foot on it. While Refugio had grown up poor she had the bearing of a queen dealing with a lowly harlot. She pointed out their relative importance in Vicente's life.
America excused herself from the picnic table, leaving the men alone. Vicente held Rodrigo and told him that his brothers would be teaching him things. Gerardo was handling a knife in a manner someone should have noticed. He was fully put out at the situation. V.Jr wondered when his father was going to tell Rodrigo the truth.
Patricia came out of the hacienda to tell Rodrigo she had to go to work and he would be staying with his father. She kissed him and Vicente told her everything would be alright. She thanked them all but had to have noticed Gerardo's hostile expression. Refugio was at the window, watching.
Later Refugio had some difficulty getting Rodrigo to eat. Vicente entered the dining room and said that this would take time. Refugio excused herself to prepare Rodrigo's room while Vicente got the child to eat.
1991, Jalisco: Alejandro wore a black traje de charro and a white sombrero on his wedding day. His dad and brothers wore dark business suits and ties. Vicente invited Alejandro to be in his next film. They all went inside.
Refugio fixed Alejandro's tie and hugged him. She was happy. Vicente escorted America down the aisle, saying to him that “women are our greatest treasure,” The priest smiled as Alejandro and America said their vows. After they kissed and turned away from the altar flower petals were thrown into the air above their path. This was underscored by one of Vicente's hits. They went outside and fireworks began despite that it was still daylight. Vicente hugged Alejandro and told him to be a good husband and treat America as a Fernandez treats his wife [I doubt he ever talked much about his own father]. Refugio gave a similar speech to America.
Some time later they talked on the ranch. America and Refugio were on horseback with their husbands leading the horses. The men later talked about the New Chapter. Vicente was concerned with keeping the love of the public. He told Alejandro he was his heir as an artist.
Dondi, OH. My. Gosh. I was shocked by this episode . I cannot believe the writers did this to Sancar and Melek witnessed it all. How much more trauma can this poor child endure ? I have to keep telling myself patio's Judyb's mantra..." It's just a story..." More later after I can get my thoughts together .
Thanks, Dondi, wonderful recap. I guess we had to know something horrible was going to happen to the happy family. Sedat is really crazy. I’m hoping a camera will show him holding the knife. But how many episodes will we have to endure first!
At least we have two new romances. Elvan and Bora were really having fun. Yaya had no right to do or say anything. He needed to walk away. Zehra and Karruk will have a battle with Halise.
I loved the way she put her cell mates in their place. She must have been one tough cookie in her younger days!
At least Muge has not turned on Sancar yet. I feel she will just because she’s not too smart about people. She’ll probably fall for Sedat next.
Liz
It is interesting the way technology has affected these shows just as it has affected our real lives ...cellphones , cameras.
I think the writers wanted to highlight a strobg woman and tell a story using the so-called " woman's gaze ." They are portraying Mavi as a woman who is intelligent, clever, proactive, and decisive in spite of her traumatic past unlike Nare who appeared to be damaged beyond repair by what Akin and Given did to her followed Sancar's rejection. There seems to be a PSA here about rising from the ashes of despair and trauma.
Hmmm....Mavi wants Kavruk to teach her to ride a horse ...in one night . yeah. Okay. So, if Mavi gets on Nare's beloved Gece, Nare's link to her happy youth and Sancar , Mavi has truly replaced Nare .
Another fantastic recap Dondi! We are so blessed by your time and talent in sharing these recaps! I am especially thankful as my phone took a little river bath yesterday and the sound is no longer working. I had been using my phone to watch while staying with my mom. Looks like no more episode watching for me until I get back home 4th of July weekend!
Stabbing yourself to win an argument is pretty hard core!!! I am shocked and a little impressed.....lol this guy is big time crazy!
I am glad and also surprised that Melek got over the not being invited to the wedding thing so quickly, but then I guess they didn't have time for her to stew about that if they were sending Sancar on the lamb....and why did he need to go on the lamb??? In hiding or in jail waiting until they prove his innocence, seems about the same. I can't see how he had anything to gain by running and making himself look more guilty.
Thank you for a spectacular recap.
Elvan, I loved it. She stood up for herself. I know she is a divorced woman and she is playing around in her shop like a 15 year old, but she never had a guy actively pursuing her before. She deserves the attention.
I am embarrassed for Ahmet, seriously? Does he just want to give DuDu the mistress status because he is still married and it seems like the purse strings are held tote.
Sedat, while I liked him in Madre..this actor is great. He totally brings the crazy.
Somehow I hope Nedecet the loser guy in that works for Sancar will bring the evidence to clear Sancar.
Fev
Exceptional Urban.
"They looked like fugitives from the Crown Jewels" had me smiling.
"there was no time to talk about this as the boy arrived in the company of his mother who looked at Refugio with scant (if any) respect. Refugio looked her straight in the eye and told her they needed to talk. Ahora". No need for me to have seen this, your amazing wordsmithing had me seeing this clearly in my mind's eye.
Diana
Meant to include this too: "While Refugio had grown up poor she had the bearing of a queen dealing with a lowly harlot". Wow. Just wow.
Diana
Gracias, Diana.
I definitely have the feeling that Refugio had no idea what she had signed on for. It's also possible that Vicente didn't either.
Thanks for the kind words and the insightful comments. The Turks know how to bring the drama!
Sedat is crazier than Akin. For any Hercai viewers: do you remember when Gonul stabbed herself and blamed it on Reyyan?
ITA Liz, Halise was impressive. Maybe that’s why her kids are all scared of her.
Muge has to be the stupidest character on the show. Next is Zehra, who would have let Gediz bankrupt the company if it wasn’t for Sancar. Two women with formal education. They like to make a point of Sancar’s lack of education, but sometimes “street smart” serves better than “book smart”.
Susanlynn, I try to give Nare a break. She had no stability, was abused most of her life, one way or another, and never got the help she needed. It seems Mavi at least had some sort of stability. Maybe that made a difference. “if Mavi gets on Nare's beloved Gece, Nare's link to her happy youth and Sancar, Mavi has truly replaced Nare.” Nare gitti, efsane bitti.
I lol’d at Mavi wanting to learn to ride a horse, because I’ve heard that Tuba is an accomplished rider IRL.
Darcy, I’m not sure why Mavi thought it was better for Sancar to run. Not a good look. Sorry about your phone.
ITA Fev, Ahmet is an embarrassment. No idea why he’s so taken with Dudu. She must have some skills. He did tell her that he was divorcing his wife and I think it was before he even knew about the baby. Who knows if he meant it?
It would be good if Necdet could save the day again on his way to total redemption.
Love the new adventures of Elvan! Suffer, Yahya!
SpanProf, "A catfight between Katya and Paulina! I didn't Think this comic novela would stoop so low. Could they be running out of funny episodes already? Catfights always strike me as stupid and sexist."
I just loved that catfight! Yes, they are stupid and sexist.
That's part of what makes them fun! :-)
Remember that a gay male couple are at the heart of this catfight.
Ignacio bringing home two suspicious looking women that he just happened to meet on the street... definitely stupid and sexist.
Even doña Maty bedding poor Jaime for a trial run, which didn't go so well.
Marcia and Luis...
The way this novela is set up it looks to be a romp based on stupidity, sexism, and sex. Much like life, only funnier.
I sincerely hope that they have not run out of funny episode ideas yet, and I BELIEVE! And nothing can shake me from my belief... until, um, never mind.
But here is where the ensemble cast comes in. They have so very many characters to work with, almost too many. I had to make written notes to help me keep them all straight, and their names.
I want to see what Gladys has to say to Sofía tonight. Melody is such a Daddy's girl that she might freak out if her parents separated. She certainly does not like to see Ignacio hanging around. But I don't know how strong her attachment to Sofía is, mostly she just wants Mario back.
Must See TV!
Andy
Dondi, well, to me, Tuba looked exactly like an accomplished rider portraying someone learning to ride a horse.
