Mavi sadly looks up info on annulments.
Sancar is at the grove office. There was a slight cut at the beginning. He thinks about the one thing that Mavi said before they got married: You start out with no doubts but then the jealousy, pain and quarrels begin. I want you to be the closest to me and I promise I will be the closest to you. Sancar swore that to her and they sealed it with a kiss.
Sancar picks up Mavi’s red notebook. He reads: [Turkish] Sancar, you said it would be easier to tell a stranger. And now I want to tell you. My life has always been a struggle. I thought if everyone was happy, I would be happy, too. I have always done what was expected of me. I tried to be a good daughter, good student, good mother and good woman. But in the end I saw that I was never happy. I had been subjected to psychological abuse for many years. And for a long time, I did not even understand this. And when I understood, I began to work to get out of this pit. Finally, I decided to end my marriage for me and for my daughter.
But sadly, I found that a woman has no right to decide and say enough is enough to her husband. Neither my humanity, nor my motherhood, nor my femininity remained. Not a single quality of mine remained that was not humiliated. I got divorced but it didn’t end there. I couldn’t get out of it. I wished him dead. I thought that was the only way to get out. But he didn’t die, Sancar, he’s not dead. Instead, life took my daughter away from me.
He remembers Mavi giving him the book to read later. He picks up the box with the ring and opens it. He smiles and springs from his seat, grabs his coat and leaves.
Elvan and Bora have dinner inside the van. He complements her on the meal. She thanks him and he replies he did nothing. She tells him, [Turkish] you helped me. He fumbles for words—well, I’m your… I’m your… Elvan finishes that for him—you were my support in my most difficult time. But this won’t work, she tells him, tomorrow I must start looking for a home. If I am a woman who can stand on her own two feet, like you said, shouldn’t I have my own roof over my head? Bora agrees but adds, remember that this is your home, too, and you will always be welcomed. Stay as long as you want. They smile and continue eating.
Sancar uses his key at Mavi’s house. She’s sitting on the couch. He kneels beside it and says, I’m sorry. You wrote that your life was difficult. He gets up on the couch and continues, I also have fought but I’ve never won. I was ignored and despised. That’s why I always blamed others and considered myself a victim.
But now I know it’s not like that, Sancar says. You’re right, people need to trust. I can’t explain it as well as you and I don’t know how to write it. I don’t know if something happened in my childhood, if someone hurt me when I was young. I don’t know how to trust. [Turkish] I become a slave to doubt, if it enters my thoughts. But I promise you that I will learn, I will learn! I will live up to my vow. I will not let others come between us. You and I will have a family. We will overcome whatever difficulties together. You and I have found peace, kadın, and I don’t want to lose it. If you forgive me, I promise in spite of all, we will be very happy.
Her turn. She keeps him hanging for a few seconds and then, she hugs him tight. He hugs back, thank you, Mavi. No… thank you, she replies, I didn’t make a mistake for the first time in my life. You have no idea how important this is.
She kneels next to him. Can you listen without interrupting, she asks? I know not everything will be perfect. We are going to argue and we won’t always agree. [Turkish] But I really want to enjoy getting to know you. He thanks her and gets down on the floor with her. They sit close, face to face.
He responds, me, too. And I really like the Sancar I am when I’m with you. I’m the Mavi that’s in your eyes, she replies. To sleep with you, he says and she replies, to wake up with you. He puts his hand on her hair. Your scent is on me, he says, and she replies, your scent will be with me all day. To breathe with you, he says, and she replies, to share life with you. To kiss you, he says and he does. She kisses him back and says, your taste. He says, I love you, Mavi. I love you, too, she tells him.
He takes the box out of his pocket and opens it to reveal the ring. He slides it on her finger. Ölene kadar, (until death) he tells her and she repeats it back to him. He kisses her hand. They start kissing. He takes off his coat. Did Sancar put a bun in that oven?
Sancar wakes up alone in bed the next morning. Mavi? He starts to panic. He jumps out of bed, calling her name. No answer. He’s relieved to find her in the kitchen. She greets him with a cheery good morning. [Wow. When did she change into that sexy red lingerie? Okay, she’s wearing a long sweater over it. And he’s wearing sweats with a hoodie. lol] He kisses her on the head. Don’t leave me alone like that, he tells her, it upsets me not to have you close. She assures him she will always be with him.
She says it’s time for breakfast and reminds him that Yahya is getting married today. Oh, yeah, the wedding, I forgot, he says, or maybe I wanted to forget. The problem is I don’t want to be there. My brother is very sad. Don’t say that, Mavi tells him, I hope they will be very happy. Inshallah. Sancar asks Mavi if she will come. She gets snarky--but your guards won’t let me leave. Yesterday I tried to leave the patio and Kavruk shouted at me.
You know it’s because I worry about you, Sancar says. But it suffocates me, she replies. Okay, he relents, as you want. He tells Mavi that Sedat packed his things and left. Are you sure, Mavi asks? Sancar nods, I think so. So, will you come with me, he asks? She agrees to go. I wish we could walk in hand in hand, he says, tell the truth and be finished with it. Mavi would like that, too, but she says they have to think about Melek [remember her?]
Sancar says Melek sent him messages all day yesterday. She insisted she wanted to see Mavi. Mavi laughs. Soon, the three of us will live here, Sancar states.
Dudu is still trying to track Yayha down. She’s on the phone to Halise. He didn’t come home last night and he’s not answering calls. I don’t know what to do. Halise tells her to stay calm. Yahya is here. He went out last night with friends. He drank too much, and his friends brought him home. Get ready, she tells Dudu, Necdet will come for you in a few hours.
Halise hangs up and goes to get Nedim. She makes sure no one is listening. She tells him that Yahya didn’t come home last night. I lied to that girl that he was here, she says. You must find him and bring him here immediately. Hurry.
Elvan steps out of the van and stretches. She looks out on the water and smiles. She turns and sees Bora’s car is still there. He spent the night sleeping in the car. She walks over to the car and knocks on the window to wake him. What are you doing here, she asks? He groans. My back! Why didn’t you go, she asks? He’s in a lot of pain. I thought about going, but I fell asleep, he tells her. Do you have ice, she asks? He thinks so. She steadies him and they walk to the van.
Nedim has Yahya in his car. He calls to report to Halise they are on the way. Yahya looks like he’s being taken to jail and not to his wedding [or maybe that’s the same in this case]. Dudu appears at the mansion. She anxiously asks Halise, where is Yahya? Halise lies to her again. He’s the groom. He went to the barber to get a shave. Halise tells Zehra to help Dudu get ready. Dudu is still worried but goes off with Zehra. Halise has to sit and take a breath. Ay, Yahya, why are you doing this? My heart can’t take another humiliation.
Mavi comes out in a slinky black gown, with her hair up. Sancar admires his wife and tells her, you look beautiful. Thanks to you and Melek, she says. Kiss. They sit. Sancar warns her, when we say we got married, everything will go out of control. Halise Efe will explode. Should I be afraid, Mavi asks? I think so, Sancar replies, the anger of an Efe woman could move the mountains. Ah, he adds, by marrying me, you are also considered an Efe woman. You have the same character.
She doesn’t understand what that means. I’ll have to learn, she says. Your MIL will take care of that, Sancar assures her. Hmm, my MIL, Mavi nods. She asks, is this a game to you? No, he says, I’m just trying to get you to relax. Yahya is having a wedding, it will not be like ours. You don’t understand. [I think Sancar needs to relax] I understand she tells him. [Turkish] I worked with thousands of people. I will probably find a common language with my MIL. Ah? Sancar knows it won’t be easy. He says, we’ll see. He laughs.
Dudu is in her gown and is looking at herself in the mirror. Her hands smooth out the front of her dress and she checks her profile. She wonders if her pregnancy is showing much. Halise says it’s not noticeable and tells her not to walk around too much. [Did you notice how beautiful Melek looks. She really looks like a little angel]
Dudu looks at Gulsiye. Sister, this is the happiest day of my life, why aren’t you smiling? I don’t look beautiful? Gulsiye has to admit Dudu looks beautiful. She wishes her sister the best. Dudu gives her sister a kiss on the cheek.
Where is Yahya, Dudu asks. Do you know anything? Halise and Zehra look at each other. Zehra says he will be here soon. Dudu exclaims it’s time to write the names on the bottom of the bride’s shoe. [To see who will get married next. Some say the first to rub off, some say the last remaining name.] Dudu writes Gulsiye first.
Halise frowns upon this saying, you shouldn’t follow strange traditions. Zehra looks disappointed. Dudu says that she also wants Zehra’s name on her shoe. I will write the name of every unmarried woman in the house, she says looking at Zehra, so they can have a family and be happy. Melek asks if Dudu will write Mavi’s name. Halise steps in again saying, that woman doesn’t belong to our house. Why would she write her name? I know, Melek replies, but I want her to be happy.
Of course, Halise says, but I believe that woman was married once before. Why would she do it again? Am I wrong? [too late for it anyway, just put Mavi on the baby list now.] Dudu looks uncomfortable. Don’t know if she wrote Mavi’s name.
Nedim arrives with the condemned man… uh, I mean… groom. He tells Yahya, get out of the car, your mother is waiting. Smiling Kavruk comes to the car. How are you? Everything is ready, all that was missing was you. I’m relieved.
Yahya asks Kavruk, where is Elvan? Kavruk doesn’t know. Yahya wonders where she could be. I think she went to stay with a friend, Kavruk tells him, she said she wasn’t coming back to the mansion for a while. Sure… Yahya says, I understand… because I broke her heart. And what for? Kavruk just tells Yahya to come inside. He finally gets out of the car.
The bridal party leaves the room. Zehra tells Melek she looks beautiful. No, you are prettier, Melek answers as they go downstairs. Gulsiye goes to check on last minute details and that leaves Halise and Dudu out in the hall. Dudu asks once again for Yahya. And before Halise can answer, he enters the house. A lot of unhappy stares. Dudu asks, what’s wrong? Shouldn’t you be dressed? Yahya doesn’t answer, he looks at Halise. She welcomes her son and tells him to go get dressed.
Yahya doesn’t move. He takes a sip of water. What’s wrong, Dudu asks? You didn’t come home, they said you were drinking, and now you arrive at the last minute. What’s the meaning of this? Halise shushes Dudu and glares at Yahya. Dudu demands an answer from Yahya. If you have something to say, say it right now!
Halise tells Dudu to shut up. She warns them for the last time, do not embarrass me in front of others. Yahya laughs, your reputation is the most important. Halise confirms this. A person who has no honor or dignity is nothing and no one. Don’t annoy me. Get ready! Halise leaves. Yahya glares at Dudu before entering the bedroom.
Poor Bora, he’s suffering. Elvan is doing her best to help. Bora can’t sit still, he complains the ice is too cold. Elvan says she knows what she’s doing. She begins to massage his back. Don’t turn around, she tells him. Hmm… looks like that feels good. He turns his head and Elvan reminds him not to turn around. She smiles and continues her work.
Sancar and Mavi arrive. No hand holding. Zehra comments, well done, dear brother. You finally decided for yourself. Halise tells her to be quiet and not make her angry. Melek happily floats over to Mavi and gives her a hug. Sancar is beaming. He says, you insisted I take you to Mavi, well, she’s here. She accepted to come. Are you satisfied, he asks Melek? Melek thanks him and continues to hold on to Mavi.
Halise doesn’t look pleased, but she welcomes Mavi - “hoş geldin”. To which Mavi gives the standard reply, “hoş bulduk” (I found it nice). Sancar has a hopeful smile and his eyes dart between the two women. Halise grits her teeth and tells Mavi, Sancar didn’t tell me you were coming. She adds, forgive me, I didn’t send you an invitation. Don’t worry, Mavi replies. Mavi doesn’t need an invitation, Sancar tells his mom. Mavi shoots Sancar a subtle look. Sancar looks at Mavi and finishes his sentence with, she’s family.
Melek tells Mavi she drew a picture for her and wants to show her. Melek leads her away. Halise takes this opportunity. She tells Sancar that he has forgotten their traditions. What is this woman doing in this house on such an important day? I brought the woman I love to my house, he explains. I’m not a boy, I don’t need to ask permission. Change your attitude, mother. [Turkish] This is not Yahya in front of you.
Halise gripes, that woman changed your character. This is her fault. Her husband showed up, you fought with him. Sancar looks surprised. Yes, they told me, Halise says, let’s see what other secrets are revealed. She’s brought us many problems. I don’t want this woman here, send her away.
Sancar can’t hold back and says, that woman you despise so much… is my wife! Halise is struck speechless! I don’t know how she stayed on her feet. Sancar is saved by Dodo and Yoyo’s entrance. He announces their arrival. Applause.
Bora is feeling better. He’s very impressed with Elvan’s healing talents. You need to tell me how you did it, he says. Elvan gets a message notification. A selfie that Zehra took with the bride and groom to be. [Why did she send that to Elvan?] Elvan just stares at it. Bora asks, what happened? Is it bad news? Tell me. No, I don’t care anymore, Elvan replies, on the contrary, it’s good news.
Elvan suddenly gives Bora a little peck of a kiss. He smiles, what was that? She giggles, nothing. I just let myself go, like you said Baristan Bey. Yes, of course, Bora happily replies, let yourself go, if that’s how you feel. They laugh.
All of a sudden Bora starts moaning with pain again. He laughed and it hurt. He turns his back to her, can you start again? Elvan accuses him of doing this on purpose. You gave me a kiss, Bora reminds her. Elvan doesn’t know what to say. Bora gives her a quick peck on the cheek and she reflexively gives him a little slap on the face. They laugh. Elvan says she’s very embarrassed. They laugh again. Don’t look at me, Elvan says. You know what, Bora says, I liked that kiss. You really surprised me. I didn’t expect it. Enough, embarrassed Elvan tells him.
Mavi and Sancar are holding hands as they sit. The ceremony begins. The officiant asks Dudu, do you take Yahya Efeoglu as your husband, without pressure and of your own free will? She calls out, Evet! And you, Yahya Efeoglu, do you take Dudu Candar as your wife, without pressure and of your own free will? Yahya looks at his mother, who nods at him to answer. And Yahya’s answer is: Hayır! No! Halise and Gulsiye rise from their seats. Dudu is stunned. Melek comes over to sit on her father’s lap.
Dudu asks, Yahya? He just stares straight ahead. Halise comes forward and nervously asks Yahya, what did you say? She addresses the judge, I think my son is nervous. Ask him again. The judge apologizes and says he can’t ask again. They will have to reapply. The judge quickly leaves.
Dudu stands up and asks Yahya why. He doesn’t answer. Halise is furious. [Turkish] You want to disgrace us in front of the people?! [what people? I only see family there. But I’m sure the word will spread fast]
Sancar jumps up from his seat. Leave my brother alone. He asks Yahya, are you sure? Yahya stands and replies, I’m very sure, brother. Please get me out of here. Sancar announces, that’s it, the wedding is over. Dudu takes off upstairs, with Zehra and Gulsiye following.
There’s the sound of radio transmissions and a group of policemen enter the house. Sancar tells Mavi they are probably going to ask about Sedat. He asks her to take Melek upstairs. Sancar approaches the officer. [Turkish] Hello Emre, an unpleasant incident happened in our family. Everyone is upset. So let’s not upset everyone even more. Let’s go, Sancar motions. Emre says, this time we didn’t come for you, Sancar Efe. We are here for Halise Efeoglu and Nedim Cetin. There was a complaint filed.
For my mother, Sancar asks? Who issued it? What is it for? Assault with injury, deprivation of freedom, Emre states. [I say lock her up and throw away the key!] Sancar stares at his mother. Emre asks Halise to accompany them and asks for Nedim, who steps forward.
This must be a misunderstanding, Sancar says to his mother, say something. She stays silent. Sancar turns to the group. No one is going to say anything?! Sancar wants to know who made the complaint. In walks Sedat and Ahmet. Sancar is stunned. Sedat motions in Ahmet’s direction, he’s my client. The camera cuts between reactions, Halise, Sedat, Ahmet, Sancar. Sancar looks like he’s about to explode.
This was the end of Turkish ep 44 out of 52.
And we are out!!
Wow, Dondi, that was great! Looks like Halise is finally losing her power over her family and the town! I’m guessing if she didn’t send Nedim for Yaya he just would not have shown up. But there was more drama this way! I wonder if he’s going to want Elvan back just as her new romance is getting started. I did wonder, I figured it wouldn’t go smoothly just because that’s how these shows are. But I couldn’t think who would interfere. Now we know, looks like Yaya is realizing he wants Elvan. I hope he doesn’t get her!
Zehra and Guisiye both looked very pretty for the wedding. We don’t see Meanie’s brother very much but maybe Guisiye will end up with him.
I’m glad Mavi had told Sancar about the husband. He just didn’t read it. But he seems very insecure in this relationship. Both times he woke up and panicked that she was gone! A strange reaction as people do get out of bed when they wake up!
Liz
Secretos
Part 1 of 2
1985, Ranch: V.Sr tried to get Alejandro to remember he is Mexican. A day or so later he walked in on a photo session and there was an ugly scene over the style of the photos. Federico tried to explain and V.Sr got angry with him.
1985, Jalisco: V.Sr told Patricia all about this and she tried to tell him this was a generational thing. She tried to convince him to put himself in Alejandro's shoes before leading him into sex.
2020: Don Vicente tried to get Alejandro to talk about this.
1985: Vicente tried to meet Alejandro halfway “as long as the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.” Alejandro had been styling his hair and Vicente watched.
2020: As Don Vicente combed Alejandro's hair like in the flashback he talked about realizing that Alejandro had his own style.
1985: Vicente looked at his work on his son's hair. It had height, like Elvis Presley's hair in his prime.
2020: Don Vicente and Alejandro drank some tequila shots as Don Vicente apologized for his many mistakes. Alejandro told him to apologize to Refugio before it was too late.
1986: Refugio was told (by a private investigator?) about Vicente and Patricia and the apartment, which was registered to a different name. At that same moment Vicente was there with her and she told him she was pregnant.
Refugio opened the large brown envelope and saw the photographic evidence. She put them back into the envelope and cried.
Patricia told Vicente she had seen the doctor. He said he was happy although his tone said he may not have been entirely truthful with her. He told her about Alejandra as he recalled Refugio's words that he was not to have children with anyone else.
The private eye left the hacienda as Alejandro asked who he was. Refugio lied, then diverted him into the kitchen as she served dinner. Gerardo was his usual irritating self on the subject of their family, knowing that Alejandra was adopted. Refugio told her children that they always came first with her.
Later she burned the photos in the fireplace as she thought about her wedding day.
2002: Alejandro held his daughter Valentina as he asked V.Jr to be her godfather. He accepted happily. Gerardo gave a cold congratulations as Alejandra asked to be godmother. Alejandro consented. V.Sr then told them he would be going into hospital shortly for surgery. Prostate cancer. He hugged Alejandro.
Secretos
Part 2 of 2
1987, Ranch: V.Sr looked at a family photo, then Refugio told him she knew everything. He acted as though he did not know what she was talking about. She got on his case, demanding to know whether she wasn't enough for him after 25 years of marriage. She was humiliated. She gave him an ultimatum: End it with Patricia or she will divorce him.
1998: Interview footage in which he evaded questions about his infidelities.
1987, Ranch: Felipe and Federico brought a portrait of Vicente – one he didn't sit for – and put it up on the wall. Refugio suspected it was from Patricia and called Federico a traitor for enabling this affair. She took another look at it and said it fell short in not showing a very important thing: Vicente's ego.
Vicente drank with Felipe and Federico and tried to tell them that his love for Patricia was different from his love for Refugio. Federico advised him to drop Patricia to save his marriage and family. This could also affect his career. Then Federico handed him the music for a new song “Por Tu Maldito
Amor,” which he also recorded later for a telenovela. As he recorded it he thought about Refugio's threat.
Patricia had an ultrasound and all looked alright. She told Vicente she had chosen the baby's name: Pablo Rodrigo Fernandez Rivera. Vicente paused. He was not really pleased but did not say so, probably to avoid a scene in front of the medical personnel.
1988, Jalisco: Vicente was with Patricia when she gave birth to her son. Baby was normal and healthy. Now she wanted to know his family.
At the same time in Guadalajara Refugio felt a chest pain while playing with Alejandra. Gerardo was a little worried about this, but handed her the invitation to his wedding. He had chosen the anniversary of his parents' wedding. This made Refugio happy. Gloria arrived and said she wanted her daughter back. Gerardo got suspicious, asking if she was looking for money. Refugio finally said she would speak to her husband about it.
Patricia wanted to have her son baptized as soon as possible, but Vicente told her it could not be public. They were talking about this when Felipe came in suddenly to warn Vicente that there were reporters lying in wait outside. He told him to take off his hat and started to lead him out.
Diana, Televisa's hair and makeup department is filled with geniuses... or sorcerers! There is enough general resemblance between the young Don Vicente and Pablo Montero that this is less of a transformation than it would be needed to be for Jaime Camil, who had is playing him in a series made in Colombia.
I have never heard Jaime Camil sing.
Thank you Dondi! Your recaps are amazing as always! These last two episodes were certainly exciting!!
Interesting to set up a potential Yaya, Elvan and Bora triangle...I hope Yays doesn't get her too but it's about time he realized what he was losing.
I feel kind of torn on the whole Yaya telling Halise off thing. On the one hand it's way over due and that meddling evil woman deserves it! On the other hand blaming mommy for ruining your life is a cop out. Sure, she meddled but you made your own decisions! Take some responsibility and ownership. The whole reason she was able to do what she did was because you didn't take ownership of your own life! Despite everything Halise was right when she said to go ahead and call Sancar and we will see what he thinks about your choices too! Yaya isn't an innocent victim. He's a spinless idiot who was happy to let mama run him until he wasn't and now it's all HER fault??? I don't know about that.
I hope Halise goes to jail!!!
Urban, stellar as always. I see a few minutes here and there and am very impressed with the little I've seen of Iliana Fox. To say Refugio is long suffering is an understatement.
As far as Patricia, the little I've seen of Sara Corrales doesn't impress. After La doble vida de Estela Carrillo in 2017, she was supposed to be the next big thing. Meh.
Refugio said "it fell short in not showing a very important thing: Vicente's ego". Then "Vicente drank with Felipe and Federico and tried to tell them that his love for Patricia was different from his love for Refugio". Selfish and self centered. Some are determined to have who and what they want when they want it. A monstrous ego indeed - but attached to musical enchantment.
Beautifully woven Urban.
Diana
I'm not impressed with Sara Corrales, either. She looks very slutty compared to the real Patricia Rivera, which was probably intended to make the viewers wish that Refugio would win this battle in the manner of her own choice.
Sara Corrales played one of the villanas of Quererlo Todo, which was a ranch-themed novela that I recapped when it aired here. Her character was a gold-digger who boinked both a father and a son. That never ends well.
My impression of Don Vicente is that of a man who had the talent for the career he had but was in many ways socially and psychologically unprepared for its benefits and pitfalls. He had very little formal education and little self-control when away from home. Had Refugio accompanied him during the early days would he have fallen into temptation? He did grow up at a time when women were divided into Virgins, Mothers, and Whores so I don't think there is a satisfactory answer to this. What surprises me is how so much of this went unknown even in pre-internet times.
I found two videos of interest on YouTube:
Duet by Vicente Fernandez and Pablo Montero
Jaime Camil as Don Vicente
This Columbian series was authorized by the Fernandez family in his lifetime.
I am very impressed with Emilio Osorio who plays the young Alejandro and his son later on. He has managed to make himself sound like them.
Thanks, Dondi. That was most def a must-see episode.
Halise, you don't need your family to embarrass you, you take care of that yourself. The whole thing with threatening Ahmet was just dumb.
Yay, Mavi and Sancar communicate and keep it together.
Liz, yep it looks like Sancar has PTSD about being abandoned. In a way, he's got some nerve when you think about the times Melek woke in the mornings and he was no where to be found.
I can't see Elvan wanting Yahya back, but I'm wondering if they can become just friends. The big test: will he confess he lied about who can't have kids.
Dudu, you thought Yahya was totally doofus. Well, maybe doofus, but not totally.
The judge cracked me up when he refused Halise's urging to ask Yahya one more time "Will you take this woman?" Nah, madam, once is enough.
Dear Dondi , thank you for another excellent recap as things start to heat up. I apologize for commenting on this episode before you put the recap up.
I love the relationship forming between Melek and Mavi. Melek now seems to cling to Mavi more than Sancar. They both need each other ..the child pining for her absent mother and the mother grieving for her daughter. Sancar is so head over heels in love with Mavi, who is do different from Nare . Mavi has to remind him that Melek needs him.
I hope the writers are not going to let Yoyo weasel his way back to Elvan. Bora is so good for her.He is kind and fun, and he is boosting her self confidence.
Dudu...well, as you sow, so shall you reap. Do you want to take Ahmet up on his offer now?
Caught up, finally!
At least for me, this telenovela is all about the fun characters. Plotting is secondary or even less important, but a few things were annoying in last two episodes. Primarily the "break-in" to Sebastian's clinic, and the substitution of BIG breast implants for smaller ones.
Very hard to believe, so much so as to be annoying. Then Sebastian doesn't know what he and his patient agreed to? Didn't he recognize her? No checklist? Checklists are so routine today it's hard to believe. But whatever.
Tráiler (I love this) taking his 80 y/o mami for some surprise paragliding? Well, maybe, doña Matilde is the adventurous sort and she's usually pickled anyway. Poor Jaime doesn't know what he's signing up for.
I do agree, though, that this fun will be hard to maintain for another hundred episodes.
Andy
SpanProf, "Oh man! Not only has Katya probably committed a crime by breaking into Sebastian's and Paulina's office and switching the implant box contents..."
No probably about it. They must have broken a dozen laws, and have caused all sorts of harm. We'll see how this works out. I did find it a little unbelievable that the maintenance lady just left them alone. What if they were there to steal equipment or drugs?
I have a feeling that I may have to order another bottle of "willing suspension of disbelief" pills before this story is over. But if it continues its present course and doesn't resort to murder, rape, kidnapping, and worse, it will be worth it.

I’m starting with a cut: Mavi has been keeping Melek occupied up in her bedroom. Melek shows Mavi her drawing of Mavi’s beach house. Melek tells her, this is our house. Our house, Mavi repeats. Mavi flips through the drawing pad and we see the pics Melek drew when she was upset about Nare leaving and her hair falling out.
Melek notes that neither she nor Mavi liked the bright colors then. But now I want to paint everything blue, to make it bright, she tells her stepmom. Should we paint together then, Mavi asks, because I also really like colors now, thanks to you and to your dad. Melek gives Mavi a hug.
Melek says, you were very upset and we were, too. We cried constantly. But let’s have a beautiful life now, okay? Mavi agrees. Can I trust you, Melek asks? Of course you can, Mavi replies. Hugs.
The ep starts when Gulsiye enters and whispers to Mavi, sorry for the interruption but Sancar Abi… Melek cuts in, what happened? Something happened. Why are you acting like this? Mavi tells her to hold on and Gulsiye starts whispering again. Sancar Abi told me he doesn’t want anyone to come downstairs. Not even me, Mavi asks? Yep. Mavi asks why. Gulsiye just casts her eyes downward.
Cut to Halise being escorted out of the mansion, followed by the family. Sancar is on his phone. We also see Sedat, Ahmet and Guven standing outside the gate. Yahya tells Kavruk, my meddlesome mother, she’s always so stubborn. [Turkish] She won’t rest until she’s destroyed us and herself. We hear Sancar tell Faruk that Halise is being taken to the police station now. Go and keep us informed, he tells his lawyer. Sancar glares at Sedat. Sedat smiles.
Mavi comes out of the house. Sedat? Sancar turns and holds his hand up to her, Mavi, please. Sedat sends a kiss Mavi’s way. First and second season Sancar would have rushed Sedat and beat the crap out of him, but third season Sancar holds back and just scowls. Sedat gets in the van with Guven and Ahmet.
Sancar calls Kavruk over and tells him that he sent Faruk to the police station. Send some of our guys to see if anything is needed. Aren’t we going, Kavruk asks? Not now, Sancar replies. Everyone heads back to the house except Mavi. [Turkish] She asks why he didn’t allow her to speak with Sedat. Why is he here, she asks. I need to put him in his place. Because this is none of your business, Sancar tells her.
What are you trying to tell me, she asks? I want to protect you and my family, Sancar replies, if you think I’m not capable, you can shout at that idiot, okay? Okay, she says and walks away. Sancar chases her. He says, Mavi, let me find out what happened. My mother was arrested and I still don’t know the reason. Can you give me a little time, please? She agrees. They head back into the house.
Mavi comes back to Melek. Melek tells her, it’s my fault they took my grandmother. Mavi says that’s not true. Melek is sure her grandfather did this. He did the same to my mother and he will do the same to me. Mavi assures Melek that while she is here, no one can hurt her. Neither I nor your father will allow it, you know that, right? Melek nods. What if we play, Mavi says. Melek says she’s not in the mood.
Mavi tells her, you have taught me some fascinating things. Will you allow me to teach you something beautiful as well? Melek nods. Even if you are feeling sad, don’t stop playing games. We are going to overcome all of this. Melek nods. They hug.
Dudu cries alone in the cursed bedroom. We see Gulsiye peeking in from the partially open door.
Sancar is out on the porch with Yahya. You asked me to get you out of there, Sancar says. If need be, I would tear the world apart for you, Yahya. But you will explain what happened! Who was that man? Yahya drops the bomb, abi, I am not the father of Dudu’s baby. Sancar is stunned. What are you telling me? Yahya reveals that Ahmet is the real father of Dudu’s baby. Sancar can’t believe it. They did the DNA test.
That’s right, Yahya answers, only the results were changed by mom. [Turkish] She got together with Dudu and they deceived me. My mother, Sancar asks with disgust. Is that why you changed your mind at the last minute, he asks? Yahya explains, Ahmet discovered it long before I did. He came to Dudu and said he was the father. They did a test and then mom did.
Why didn’t you tell me, Sancar asks?! If you knew, why didn’t you come and ask for my help before all this happened? Do you think this is easy for me, Yahya tells his brother. [Turkish] When I found out I was going to be a father I was floating on the clouds. I said, “praise the Almighty. Allah gave me a baby, too.” But when I found out this was not so, the whole world fell on my head.
Sancar comforts his brother. Okay. It’s true what you say. I know this is not easy. Okay, we have to get mom out. We are going to resolve this, it’s our duty. We will free her, I promise. Yahya says, we will fix everything. But how do we fix the mistake I made with Elvan?
Looks like Elvan has fixed everything with Bora! They are together in bed in the van! She looks quite content, staring out of the window. Bora gives her a kiss on the back of her neck. She giggles. You’re tickling me, she says, look I have goosebumps.
[Turkish] You are a beautiful woman, you are so natural, Bora tells her. What are you, he asks and answers, you are just a great woman. [He used the word, “mükemmel” which can be, excellent, perfect, great. Take your pick] You, too, Elvan replies. I’m a great woman, too, Bora snarkily replies. Did I say that, Elvan asks? Then what did you say, he replies. Sende mükemmel, she clarifies (you are great, too).
Bora scoffs, why don’t women know how to give a compliment to us? We like to be flattered, too. Can’t I hear beautiful words from Elvan early in the morning? She reaches out and touches his face, you are a great man, too. Done, he says and gives her a peck. He starts to “complain” about his back hurting again. Give me another massage, Elvan! She laughs.
Guven is thrilled. Our collaboration has already given us the first fruits. It seems we will be finished with this in short time. I wouldn’t want to be in Sancar’s place right now. He should take care with whatever he does. Sancar will have no rest, Sedat says, his worst mistake was to marry Mavi. He will understand that. Ahmet doesn’t look as pleased. Sedat asks, what’s wrong? I thought you’d be happy when they arrested Halise. Dudu had on a wedding dress, Ahmet notes and asks, were they married?
Guven and Sedat give a worried look to each other. Guven asks his man if he knows anything about this. The man confirms that Yayha said no to the marriage. Ahmet smiles. Sedat tells him, you already got your first payback, perhaps now you can get the woman you love back. He adds, hopefully I will too.
Gulsiye is in with the still sobbing Dudu. What are you going to do, she asks? They will believe that I knew, too, she worries. How can I look at Halise Hanım and Sancar Abi? You’re only thinking about yourself, Dudu shouts. Did you think about me when you did this, Gulsiye shoots back, you don’t move me, you ruined yourself and have no right to cry. Where is Yahya, Dudu asks. I need to speak with him immediately. He needs to hear the truth. I have to speak with him.
Gulsiye tries to stop her sister from leaving but no luck. Dudu, still in her wedding dress, heads for the porch and stops when she overhears Yahya tell Sancar: “Yahya, what a fool you are. Because of your stupid mistake, you lost your beloved Elvan.” That’s what you all think of me.
Sancar replies, that’s not what I think, but it’s certain that you were wrong. We all make mistakes, you’re not the only one. Mine was not a simple error, Yahya replies, I had a happy family and a great woman, I lost it all, I ruined my life. I curse the day I met Dudu. I curse the day I saw her and held her hand. Dudu looks devastated.
Yahya continues, [Turkish] May Allah punish me. I ruined my family for Dudu. Sancar pulls his brother into a hug. It’s okay, enough, calm down. It’s over. Dudu watches and cries. She turns away. She says, this is your fault, Dudu. You caused this, you are a horrid girl. [Turkish] Build your dreams as much as you want, but your parents didn’t even love you. What can be said of the people in this mansion? What can I say about Yahya? She sobs and walks away.
Faruk comes to see Halise at the station. Geçmiş olsun, nasılsınız? May this pass, how are you? How am I, Halise answers, isn’t it obvious? Is Sancar talking to the director? Faruk sits, [Turkish] Sancar Bey entrusted everything to me. He will just give directions. He doesn’t care that his mother is in jail, she asks, my son can’t be bothered to come, and he just sends you? Call him, she demands, I want to talk.
Faruk says it’s not possible to call. Halise can’t believe this. I’ll speak to the police. Can’t I talk to my son? Halise sees the look on Faruk’s face and gets it. It’s not the police, it’s Sancar who doesn’t want her to call. Faruk says, they took you and Nedim Bey to take your statements. To have a good defense we must talk about your statements, time is running out.
Haughty Halise says Nedim knows what to do, you don’t have to worry about him. [Turkish] He will say I didn’t know anything, he did this on his own, and that’s all. Get out and call Sancar, she orders. Tell him to come. Faruk lets Halise know it won’t be that easy. Unfortunately, they have pictures of you and Ahmet together. This complicates the defense. Halise is surprised. Faruk continues, besides that, Nedim and his men appear in the photos as well. This seems like an organized crime. If we don’t prepare our defense, you will go to prison. [yay!]
Halise presents her own laughable defense. Everything I did was for Yahya’s happiness. If you don’t believe me, ask him. Faruk says Yahya isn’t here either, he’s with his brother. [lololol] Halise feels sorry for herself, you know how they say, [Turkish] one mother will be able to care for nine children, but nine children will not be able to care for one mother. Let it be so. I will go to prison for him, and he won’t even come to see his mother. [I will not shed a tear for you, Halise!]
Elvan and Bora have moved out of the van and he’s prepared coffee. Not instant garbage but Peruvian coffee he uses at his café. Elvan loves it. She confesses, this situation scares me, it’s something new for me. Really, he asks? It seems that you are used to all this, she tells him, but I have never done anything like this. He asks if she regrets it. No, she answers quickly, why do you say that? Should I? No, he replies, I just wanted to say that, they always say that phrase in the movies. Why would you regret? After all, you are a grown woman. You’re the one who decides what you want.
Elvan gives him a serious look and asks, Baristan Bey, tell me, what are we? He thinks and says, we are two people that are mutually attracted. Elvan doesn’t look to thrilled. Are you surprised? He takes her hand.
I’m going to explain this, Bora says. We see relationships differently, but what we have in common is that we feel good when we are together. That’s how it is, I don’t want to spoil what we have. Rushing it will make it end. I think we should take our time. I always rushed things and failed in my marriages. I don’t want the same thing to happen to us. For this, we should be realistic. Let’s not see this as it was a fairy tale. You’re telling me to go with the flow, Elvan says with uneasiness. Yes, we ought to go with the flow, he replies, we will see where the current takes us.
Elvan is not quite on that wavelength. She takes her hand away and Bora asks why. She picks up her cup and says, the coffee is getting cold.
Nedim gives his statement with Faruk present. It’s just like Halise said, Nedim takes the sole responsibility. The cop puts the photos on the table, so then what are these? Nedim gives a side glance to Faruk and answers, Halise Hanım was informed. She came to free him and ordered me to leave him alone. The cop asks, Halise didn’t ask you to kidnap Ahmet?
Cut to Halise’s statement and the answer to that question. I never asked for that. If you ask Nedim, he will confirm. When I found out, I went to prevent him from harming Ahmet Bey. But he should have thought better than go after an engaged girl. The men here don’t tolerate that nonsense. You know how it is.
Back to Nedim. If Halise Hanım had not stopped me, I would have killed him. [Turkish] Instead of filing a complaint, he should pray for her. The cop warns Nedim he’s making problems for himself. He should tell the truth. He can make a deal if he tells the truth. [please tell the truth, Nedim] Nedim is firm, I don’t regret anything. I did what I had to do. Rather than question me, why don’t you go ask Ahmet why he harassed an engaged girl.
Halise tells the cop, what Nedim did wasn’t right, however, this man (Ahmet) wants to blame me by arguing that there was one victim. If you’re a sick guy who chases girls, someone will come and tell you to leave them alone.
In the next scene, a cop tells Sedat and Ahmet about Halise and Nedim’s statements. Ahmet shakes his head. The cop asks if they want to continue with the complaint against Halise. None of that is true, Sedat says, don’t believe a single word she said. Halise ordered her men to kidnap and beat my client, including threatening him if he returned to Bodrum.
We see Halise is also in the room. Meek and mild, she turns to Ahmet, please, don’t you see that I am an old woman, I have heart trouble, too. Didn’t I come to that place to save you? I came, I stopped those men, I told them to take you home. You’re being pressured by Guven (who is also in the room). Excuse me, Guven says, I am only here to help my future partner. You know this family better than I do, he tells the cop, they are tyrants, they are mafia. Her son has been subjected to numerous lawsuits. Don’t you dare mention my son, Halise shouts. The cop tells her to calm down and he warns Guven, too.
The cop asks again if they want to continue with the complaint. Sedat nods at Ahmet. Ahmet looks at Halise and says, of course. Look at the medical report. I was unconscious for days. I reported Halise and her men.
Sancar tells Yahya he is mad at himself. I was plunged into depression and I forgot about you, I got lost. You needed me. Yayha says, nothing that happened is your fault. You didn’t forget. Mom didn’t need a pair of shoes or a new dress, or furniture, it wasn’t like that. You saw what she did. She ordered that man kidnapped, she went completely crazy. You think that’s a normal mother?
Sancar answers, tell me if anything we lived has been normal. Nothing normal has happened to us. He bangs on the table a jumps up from his seat. I’m very upset with you, he tells Yahya, if you suspected something about this, if you knew mom would do this, why didn’t you tell me? Yahya says Sancar is right. I already told you I was upset and I couldn't tell you. Yes, you did, Sancar says. My mother with a bad heart is at the police station, when she should be enjoying her granddaughter.
Yahya gets up from the table. Look brother, on my part I have always loved and admired you. When I had a problem I tried to resolve it my own way, like you, but I always failed. Everything that happened is my doing and the same with mom. Although I realized it too late, it served something. I’m always going to admire you, but from now on, I will be who I really am. I promise you I will try to be worthy of you. You know how much I love you, Sancar tells his brother. I know, Yahya replies, I know that very well.
Faruk calls Sancar. Unfortunately, it’s not good news. They are not withdrawing the complaint. Your mother will stay in custody. When will she appear in court, Sancar asks? The earliest is tomorrow, Faruk replies, she will be in a cell tonight. Sancar is concerned that the fiscal could decide to send Halise to prison. Faruk says it’s a possibility if the complaint is not withdrawn. Sancar says he’s going to look for Ahmet and try to convince him. Keep me informed. What do we do, Yahya asks? Sancar says, we will do what we have to do. Ahmet is going to change his decision.
Mavi and Melek are playing a “guess who” game. Mavi has to guess the name of a celebrity, whose picture she’s wearing on her head. Sancar interrupts the game and Melek asks him not to help Mavi. He assures Melek he won’t say anything. Mavi asks for a clue. Melek says he looks like Uncle Yahya. Mavi immediately guesses, Kemal Sunal. [I had to look this up. He was a famous comedic actor in Turkey] Sancar laughs, our Yayha looks like him! [I could see that]
Sancar asks Melek, and who does your father look like? [he kinda looks like that actor who was in Fatmagul and KPA, no?] Melek says to Mavi, my dad looks like a prince, right? Dad is very handsome, isn’t he? Mavi is thinking about it. Yes, look at me, Sancar tells her, come on. Mavi has some fun. Hmm… I’ve never looked… let’s see. She says in the Turkish, well… he’s not bad. Look at you, Sancar replies with a big smile, you are very funny. Your happiness has given me energy. But I have to go because there is a problem.
Melek asks if he is going to see her grandmother. Yes, he replies, I must go to her. Your grandmother won’t come for a couple of days. Is everything okay, Mavi asks? There was a misunderstanding, Sancar says. Do you know Faruk, the lawyer? I’m going with him to resolve it. Is Mavi leaving, too, Melek asks her, can I go with you? I don’t want to be alone in this mansion. Elvan isn’t even here. Sancar says Mavi can take her home but he has to come back to the mansion. Yahya is not well, neither is Dudu. I have to be here for them.
Mavi asks, is it ok if we stay here? Sancar’s face lights up. We can ask Kavruk to bring things from the house. Great if that’s what you want, Sancar says. He thanks his beautiful girls for understanding. He’s relieved they are staying in the mansion. I know, Mavi says. Melek watches them gaze at each other. Melek excuses herself from the room to go to the bathroom. Mavi says she will take her. No, Melek tells them to stay and talk. She gives her father a kiss goodbye, Mavi and I will wait for you here. She leaves. Mavi asks, did she just leave us alone or is that my imagination? She did it, Sancar says.
Mavi leads him over to sit. I was thinking, we have to speak with Melek. If she discovers it, she will be angry with us. First I have to rescue my mother, he replies, I swear I will tell her. Mavi asks about Halise. She’s okay, but scared, he says. [Turkish] She deserved it, he says, she deserved it! Is she in the mafia or is she the lady of the mansion? How could she kidnap a man?
Mavi answers, you should listen to your mother, but think how she interferes in her children’s affairs. She involves herself in your lives. Yahya is sad, Dudu, too. Sancar laments. Does everyone has such a life or is it just our family?
Life isn’t easy, Mavi tells him, everyone lives their destiny. We came to my brother’s wedding, he says, and now we go to my mother’s trial. He wants ask her something. Are you sorry you married me? Hmm… I’ll think about it, she replies. Think about it, he says. The answer is in the form of a kiss. I want to tell you something else, he says. I don’t want to go, I want to stay here. She asks why. [Turkish] You are so beautiful, he tells her. You are beautiful, she replies. They hug. Keep me informed, Mavi asks. He will. And he’s excited that she will be waiting here for him. He goes with a big smile.
Things aren’t going so well at the van down by the lake. Elvan sits with a frown and her arms folded. Gulsiye calls her, crying, where are you, please come back. What happened, Elvan asks, something bad? Everything was ruined, Gulsiye says. The wedding didn’t happen. Yahya got up from the table. Later a man came. I beg you, you have to come to help me. I don’t know how to resolve this.
Yahya didn’t want to marry, Elvan asks? Yes, that’s what I said, Gulsiye replies, please I beg you, come back. Okay, I’m on my way, Elvan tells her. Elvan tells Bora that Yahya and Dudu didn’t get married. Today was their wedding, he asks, is that why you were sad or happy? I have to go, she says. Where are you going, he asks? To the mansion, she replies. I’ll take you, he says, I’ll go with you and then we will come back. Do you like that idea? You don’t have to take me, Elvan says, I’m going to spend the night with a friend. You enjoy your time.
You will stay with a friend, he asks, why do you want to stay with her? You don’t feel comfortable here? Yes, Elvan replies, but I also like inconvenience. Okay, it’s your business, he relents, we will do it as you want. Elvan calls for a taxi. She asks Bora for the location. He doesn’t answer, he doesn’t even look at her. She taps him, what’s the location? He just looks around.
Slight cut. Dudu is still in her gown. She’s pacing and calling Yahya. Please answer…. Why do you keep calling, Gulsiye asks her, show a little pride. Dudu gets a message from Yahya: “please go home. It’s better for both of us. When I put my thoughts in order, I will come and explain, but please go now.” She starts crying again.
Gulsiye looks at the message and asks, what are you going to do now? I will go home, Dudu replies, it will be as you want. You will get rid of me! Are you happy now?! Gulsiye says, take off the dress. You walk with is as if wearing it give you pride. I’ll bring a bag so you can keep it. If Halise wants it, it can stay here.
A cop escorts Halise down the hall. There’s a wordless exchange with Faruk. The cop takes Halise down the stairs.
Mavi and Melek are playing hide and seek in her bedroom. Not too many places to hide there. The game is interrupted by a call from Sedat. I told you to leave, Mavi says. I’ll go, but you will come with me, he replies, the house is the same, I haven’t even changed a glass because I know you will come back. Don’t ruin your life or the lives of these people here. If you leave the mansion now, Halise will go free. We will leave this place and won’t look back. This offer is only good now. You won’t have another opportunity. If you don’t leave this place immediately, she warns him, I won’t be responsible for what happens. Neither will I, Sedat replies. He hangs up.
Melek comes out of the closet and touches base. Mavi is still affected by the call. Melek comes to hug her and Mavi snaps out of it. Hugs and kisses.
And we are out.
"I believe Katya may have "tipped" the maintenance lady some cash IIRC."
Absolutely, but if that was in exchange for letting the girls rummage through the stock I missed it. I thought it was for her help fixing up Viiyéri's fake "wound".
Maintenance lady first declined the "tip" but then accepted it. I took it as legit, but I was probably wrong about that.

Dondi thank you for every detail . Well, we all knew that the happy happy joy joy wasn't going to last.
Du looked so pathetic . She thought that with Halese in her corner she had Ya all wrapped up. The new writers have changed Ya's personality and also the relationship between Ya and San . In seasons 1 and 2, San was usually beating Ya up for his treatment of Elvan, putting Melek in danger, etc. Now we see all this brotherly love and support.
I love all the scenes of Melek and Mavi together .
Wow, I was surprised to see Elvan and Bora sleeping together in the van . ....if the van is rockin, don't cone aknockin.
Thanks, Dondi, this was a good episode. Sancar is talking about how is mother is acting like the Mafia, kidnapping and beating someone but that was Sancar for two seasons! It must run in the family!
I was really surprised that Elvan and Bora “did the deed”, but now she’s running back to the mansion. She needs to break away from them and have her own life. I hope she finds out Halise and Yaya lied to her for years!
I love to see Mavi and Malek together. I hope Mavi doesn’t decide to go back to Sedat to save Halise. I also thought Ahmet was worried about his wife and family finding out. So he hesitated in going along with Guven’s plan. But if he brings Dudu home they’ll find out. I can’t figure out his motive in pursuing Dudu, unless he just wants the baby.
Speaking of babies, maybe Elvan is now pregnant! That would be great!
Liz
Thanks for the links Urban.
I really enjoyed Pedro and Vincente's duet.
I don't believe I've ever admitted this, for the most part because everyone here (especially our dearly missed Anita) seems so crazy about him, but I've never cared for Jamie Camil. I wasn't impressed by what I saw - I can't imagine the performance could match what seems to be a powerful one from Pedro, sanctioned version or not.

The recap of #21 will be posted by tonight. Unfortunately since I can't count on Univision to have it up it will be missing a lot of details and last night's episode had scenes where it was very difficult to hear because of other sounds, like in party scenes.
I don't think that Jaime Camil is as good an actor as Pablo Montero and I have not yet seen him in any dramas. Pablo has never disappointed me in his acting, but I dearly wish he continues to shave properly after this series. And anyone can see longer hair like in this one suits him so much better. Don Vicente aged very well until his last ten years or so and I hope Pablo continues to look younger than the calendar says he is. He will be 48 this year.
Now I need a drink.
Liz,oh my , wouldn't that be amazing if Elvan was pregnant ! It seems there must be a reason for having Elvan suddenly decide to sleep with Bora so unexpectedly after she has been running from him. I hope the writers didn't decide to reform Ya so that he could win Elvan back . Elvan deserves a new life with a positive guy . I don't want her back with Sad Sack Ya and his meddling mom who have both lied to her for years. So sad too bad , Ya. Woulda, shoulda, coulda.
When I watched without understanding all the dialogue between Elvan and Bora (after all, they weren't nekkid!), I too figured they just slept. But they did the deed! So how many times has Bora been married and does he have any kids. Inquiring minds want to know. ;>
Yep, Yahya does look like that famous Turkish actor. Cute scene. I remember when Sancar needed Yahya to fake that they were feuding and he hit him a couple of times in public as part of the ruse. Yahya was happy to be "in" with his big bro. Now he's telling Sancar personal stuff, though Sancar is not doing the same with him. As for Elvan, that ship has sailed. Move on, Yahya.
I thinks it's dumb for Guven to openly show up as Sedat and Ahmet's backer, but with his arrogance he wants Sancar to know that it's he Guven that's sinking the House of the Efeoglus. I'm hoping that Mavi will become Sancar's Gediz (the old Gediz who worked side by side with him against the baddies, not the one that behaved badly after falling in love with Nare). She has smarts according to everybody that knew her before. Surely she won't accept Sedat's stupid offer.
Dudu, I have no sympathy for you. You treated Gulsiye and Elvan like gum under your shoe.
Nedim is so loyal. He conveys so much with nearly no words. These actors are good. In their expressions, I don't see one false note.
Thanks, Dondi. I'm loving all the nuance of this story, which I would never know without your recaps. Super job.
SpanProf, that whole bit about those three quitting, and then coming back just struck me as filler. It really made no sense.
If telenovelas are any guide at all, contracts of this sort are taken very seriously, even when they are a bit "unusual". I'm thinking of La que no podía amar, in particular.
But do their contracts allow Andrea to cut their salaries whenever she feels like it? Of course, we will never see the contracts, they say whatever the writers want them to say at any particular time in the novela. And might say something totally different at another juncture.
The contract is probably legit by telenovela standards. I'm sure the contract never admits this whole deal is a scam. Gonzalo and all the other "actors" think they are playing roles to satisfy the odd whims of a rich and very eccentric gringo multi-millionaire who wants to rediscover his "lost" Mexican family for a year.
Of course that doesn't make a whole lot of sense either.
Could that whole bit have been just for Gonzalo to momentarily "see" the young Andrea he was dating 20 years ago? I dunno.
Another hard-to-swallow scenario is that Sebastián has had his license to practice medicine suspended because a suit against him has been initiated. He has no malpractice insurance? No lawyer to fight this?
And, really, he should know his patients better, not just plop in whatever implants he's handed. Well, better than amputating the wrong leg, I suppose. The lady might even come to like her new look.
Of course, I know less than nothing about Mexican law. Less than nothing because the little I do know comes from telenovelas which means it's probably all wrong. Still, suspending someone's license for a mistake that is not life-threatening, and can be repaired, before the accused has had a chance to defend himself, seems bogus to me. But Sebastián better have insurance, because this is going to cost, big time!
Actually, "bogus" is probably a good description of this novela from one perspective. I look at it from a very different perspective. I very much enjoy the characters and their relationships: pickled and on-the-make doña Maty; the faces Andrea makes; the offbeat character of Chabela, even her walk; Gladys' pining for Mario; Ignacio's interest in just about any woman he meets; Sebastián and Diego and Katya and Paulina; etc., etc., etc. There are enough characters in this novela to provide stories galore.
I very much wish they would tighten the plot and details a bit, so that things made more sense, but I suppose we can't have everything. YMMV.

El Caer
Part 1 of 2
1988, Ranch: Refugio and Gerardo were talking when a news report came on about a new son of Vicente's that was not Refugio's. She picked up the remote and turned off the set. When Gerardo tried to ask questions she indicated she did not want to talk about this. Gerardo took the hint. She thought back to the conversation with him and the detective's photos.
When Vicente returned she told him she wanted a separate bedroom. She said his words meant nothing. He had not broken off the relationship with Patricia Rivera. She demanded the truth. She cried. He admitted it and she slapped him. She had hoped all through their marriage that he loved her. He got on his knees to plead with her but she walked away.
The following morning her sons went riding. Gerardo broke the bad news to his brothers. Alejandro was sure that their mother would not accept this child. He was already thinking about marrying America and wanted to get away from all this.
Patricia told the baby that she and his father had a complicated relationship. She promised that someday he would meet his siblings.
After they prayed in the estate's chapel, Refugio asked Vicente whether he intended to be involved in this child's life. Their sons arrived and got on his case about this. He explained that he had offered to leave the house. Refugio turned this down because.... faaaaaamily. That boy would live with them. Vicente scolded Gerardo for knocking up his cousin. Alejandro was angry, too, saying that Vicente would pay for this sin. He left the chapel and mounted his horse. Vicente repeated the offer and Refugio again declined it. He brought up the subject of Alejandra and Gloria. Refugio shut this down. In addition she was determined to become financially independent right under his nose.
Alejandro's horse threw him.
Vicente prayed alone.
El Caer
Part 2 of 2
Refugio got out the first aid kit and tended to Alejandro, who was not seriously hurt. He asked her what she was going to do next. She answered that Patricia's child would come to live with them.
Vicente talked with Gloria. Alejandra would stay with him and Refugio to have a better life. Refugio told Gloria to stay away for a while. This was uneasy, but there were no arguments. Refugio genuinely loved Alejandra.
Vicente ended his relationship with Patricia. She was angry. He told her she would not be turned out onto the streets. Rodrigo would be with him and his family. She freaked out at this and took the baby out of his arms. She refused to share Gloria's fate. She cried after he walked out.
2020, Ranch: Dalia wanted to talk to V.Jr.
1988: Felipe and Federico tried to get Vicente to talk about this. He told them that his family was at odds with him because of all of these things. He felt like he had let his mother down as well, remembering his childhood when he promised his mother he would be successful and buy a big property.
2020: Dalia asked V.Jr why he wasn't seeing a mental health professional.
1988: The guys told Vicente to use these troubles as a springboard to his art. They suggested a vacation with no women so no skirt-chasing. He needed to be able to resolve things with his family. Then they played pool and drank to small victories, like frat boys.
2020: Dalia asked V.Jr how he wanted to remember his father. He said like the only star in the sky but also as a humble man who was generous to those in need.
2005: At Christmas Vicente and Refugio opened their ranch to needy people for the day and distributed gifts to them.
2020: V.Jr spoke of his mother as probably being sad about the children that weren't hers.
1988: Vicente was dressed in his best traje de charro, black with gold embroidery and a red silk tie. Refugio was dressed in a white suit with beads and sequins. This looked like a vow renewal. [Was this for themselves or for the public's benefit? – Author]
Gerardo married his cousin. She was beautiful and looked too good for him.
Alejandro and America looked like they were getting serious.
Felipe took Vicente aside and told him about some new movies and that he was going back to Mexico City. However, as he walked away Vicente had a bad vibe about this.
Oh, wise and wonderful patio! I love reading your comments! I’m enjoying the “third season” a lot more this time and it’s due to you. I wish I had more time to lead the discussion you deserve. I can’t speculate with you, but I’m happy to clarify what I can.
Susanlynn, don’t apologize for your early comment. Sometimes I’m so excited by an ep, I feel like spoiling my own recap and heading right into the discussion.
Niecie, thanks for pointing out Halise doesn’t need anyone to embarrass her. It’s the Halise Efe paradox. I hate her and the actress is doing a great job. ITA: “These actors are good. In their expressions, I don't see one false note.”
Darcy, I really loved it when Yahya told Halise she had no life. But I totally get where you are coming from with your mixed feelings. These people are adults. This frustrates me, too. These characters are so locked into their culture and the insecure Halise used and still uses that to bully and control. Even city girl Mavi wrote in her notebook that she was psychologically abused for years before realizing it and she had to fight to break free. Not everyone is strong enough to fight. But at least we see a glimmer of hope for the Efeoglu siblings and Elvan and Kavruk, too. It’s never too late, we still have several eps to go, lol.
We all seem to be on Team Bora, we are loving Mavi with Melek, and we want Halise behind bars for a while.
Friday recap coming shortly.
Dudu violently stuffs her wedding dress into a bag. Gulsiye warns her to be careful or it will tear. Dudu throws the bag to the ground and explodes, this dress is more important than my life?! Isn’t that true? Avoid messing it up! She kicks the bag, over and over and shouts, let Dudu die! Gulsiye urges her to calm down and reminds her to think about the baby she’s carrying. And sure enough, Dudu stops and puts her hands on her stomach. She gasps in pain. Sister, my baby! Gulsiye helps her to sit on the bed.
Mavi hears Dudu’s cries from Melek’s room. She asks Melek to wait there and she leaves.
Gulsiye helps Dudu into the bed, telling her to rest and it will pass. Dudu cries out in pain, help me. Mavi enters and assesses the situation. She asks Gulsiye for a phone to call an ambulance. We find out that Dudu is 18 weeks pregnant. The ambulance is on its way, and Mavi takes control and tries to keep Dudu calm.
Halise is put into a cell with two other women. Silent tears fall. [boo freakin' hoo!]
Elvan arrives at the mansion and calls for Gulsiye. She hears Dudu crying in the cursed bedroom. Gulsiye comes running up the stairs and tells Elvan that Dudu is in bad shape, she’s bleeding, Mavi called an ambulance. Elvan exclaims, Allah korusun! Allah korusun! (God forbid!) and she watches from the doorway. The EMTs arrive and Elvan whispers a plea, [Turkish] oh Allah, this is such a tiny creature. Don’t do this.
Sancar and Yahya speak with Faruk. Is this serious, Sancar asks? I don’t want to give you false hopes, Faruk replies. They have evidence. Since this is a premeditated crime, I don’t think she will be released soon. If Ahmet doesn’t change his mind and withdraw the complaint, there’s not much we can do.
Kavruk arrives with clean clothes and medications for Halise and hands them to a cop. Gulsiye calls Yahya about Dudu and he heads back to the mansion.
Sancar is brought into an office where Halise is waiting. He kisses his mother’s hand. My son… They hug. You don’t know how happy I am that you came, you’re here, she tells him. He asks her to sit and asks if she’s okay. I don’t know, she replies, you judge. I know you’re angry and you have the right. But I swear I didn’t do it with bad intentions. Didn’t we talk about this, Sancar asks? We said I was the head of this family, and you are the mother, yes? Why do we always go through the same thing, he asks with frustration.
This is different, Sancar, please believe me, she tells him, it’s not like that. I did it for Yahya and for his family. He’s not strong, he’s not like you. He was distressed because he couldn’t have children. I wanted him to be happy. I wanted him to have a complete family. I swear I did it all for him. Sancar asks, who are you to play with the destinies of others? [Turkish] Are you the master, he asks, and we’ll dance to your tune?
I’m not telling you that, Halise answers. I don’t understand your behavior, Sancar says, if I am the head of this family, you are not to do anything without telling me. But if you are, then don’t involve me in anything. I’ll build a new life with my daughter and my wife. I’m here thanks to the ex-husband of that woman, Halise says, you can’t see, but I do. Maybe she is his accomplice. She’s got nothing to do with this, Sancar replies. It’s your fault you find yourself here. Understand that. I have to go, he tells her.
Go son, go and leave your mother in this place, Halise says for the guilt trip, I know why you are doing this. That woman is poisoning your big heart. I know that kind. I’ve learned to distinguish them. They are nobles. She loves you, but she doesn’t like us. Halise whines, she wants to take you and my granddaughter far away and leave me alone in this huge mansion. That’s for sure. Listen to me now, Sancar Efe, if you leave me, your brother, your sister and the mansion, because of "that woman", I will never forgive you! She adds, you will not be an Efeoglu, or my son. I’ll disinherit you.
[Note: Halise said, “Seni sütümü helal etmem” this makes a special reference to the mother – child relationship by including “sütümü” – my milk. She’s a horrible mother]
Sancar doesn't seem to bothered about not being forgiven and possibly carrying his sins against his mother into the afterlife. He warns, [Turkish] don’t you dare say “that woman” anymore. Don’t you dare. He leaves and Halise is in shock.
Elvan and Mavi wait outside Dudu’s room. It’s not looking good. Elvan asks for Melek. She must be sad, she wants to go to her. Mavi stops her and says she told Zehra to take her to Gece. Don’t worry, she hasn’t seen anything. Elvan thanks Mavi for taking charge and calls her a heroine. She adds her hopes that the baby and Dudu will be fine.
The doctor comes out of the room. The baby couldn’t be saved, but Dudu will be okay. Dudu doesn’t need to be hospitalized. But she needs to rest and stay hydrated. We see Gulsiye comforting Dudu in the bed.
Yahya arrives and gets the news. Dudu calls out to him. He looks at her, he looks at Elvan and walks out of the mansion. Elvan chases after him. Where are you going? He asks Elvan to leave him alone and not to start anything. I’m not saying anything, she tells him, but you lost your baby a moment ago. Don’t you have a heart? That baby was yours. That’s not so, he replies. What are you saying, Elvan asks, are you crazy? I’m completely sane, he says, I haven’t felt like this in a long time. That baby wasn’t mine. It's impossible for me to be a father. I’m sterile.
Elvan is stunned. What? He tells her, you are naïve and nice, no one in this mansion is like you. My dear mother fooled us for many years. She fooled you and me. Yahya drops the big one on Elvan: You can become a mother. For so many years, the flaw, the lies and the sins, belonged to me.
Elvan tears up, Halise Anne would never do that. She did it, Yahya replies, she did it all so her pride wouldn’t be stained. You’re wrong, Elvan says, she would never do this. I wish it was a lie so I could look her in the face, he says. When my mother is released, I will call her into account, I swear.
Outside the station, Sedat tells Ahmet that the fiscal will decide in a few days. The charges will be prepared. Sedat asks if Ahmet will be okay at the hotel. He says yes. Here comes Sancar and he asks them to wait. Sancar tells Sedat, your problem is with me. My mother hasn’t done anything [he left out: except for ordering a man kidnapped and beaten] Ahmet tries to interject, but Sancar gives him the hand, I have nothing to say to you, I came to talk to your lawyer.
Sedat asks, here and now, you want to beat me up again? [Turkish] look, I put your mother behind bars, she’s sitting there, defenseless like a lamb. Are you going to take it out on me now? I will, I will, Sancar answers, but not here where you want. It will be in a different place. I promise it will be a surprise. Ahmet says he will take a taxi and goes. Sancar and Kavruk take note. Kavruk’s going to follow him.
Sooner or later, he will realize you are using him, Sancar says to Sedat, what will you do then? He tells Sedat to leave or he will wish he was never born. You think I am the threat, Sedat replies, but you have the real bomb next to you. It’s in your house. Your wife is a murderer. You are an unscrupulous, merciless person, Sancar growls, she fled Istanbul thanks to you! She left behind her daughter’s grave, and you call her a murderer?!
Sedat scoffs, you think I’m referring to our daughter? Okay, he smirks, Mavi didn’t tell you that. And you trust her. What are you talking about, Sancar asks? Sedat hands Sancar a folder. Mavi… killed her grandmother. This is the file for the case. If you read the complaint, you will see her aunt’s name. Her aunt caught her and reported her. Ah, now you think, “before I married her, I should have investigated her past.” BTW, where is Mavi now? At your mansion? With your daughter? You left them alone? Sedat smirks and walks off. Will Sancar become a slave to his doubts again?
Gulsiye and Mavi sit with the grieving Dudu. She blames herself and apologizes to the baby as she cries. They try to comfort her. Understand this wasn’t your fault, Mavi tells her, you didn’t do this. Even my baby wanted to leave me, Dudu sobs. There’s a knock at the door and Elvan enters and gives Dudu her condolences - “başınız sağolsun”, and adds, may the Almighty give you great patience.
Dudu sits up. You are sorry? Huh? She shouts, I don’t want your pity! Rejoice! What you wanted, happened! I can’t have children, just like you! Yahya also wants to leave me! I’ll be alone until the day I die! Mavi quietly tells Elvan she will handle this. Elvan leaves. Zehra bring in an EMT to sedate Dudu.
Sancar is at the old mill. [Rememer that place? He kept Akin there and crushed his hand.] He tries but can’t resist reading the file Sedat gave him: Mavi Cinar, was charged with the murder of her grandmother, Firuze Erol. The suspect admitted she was alone in the house when Firuze Erol died. (We see Mavi and Melek happily playing) The youngest daughter of Firuze, Nilufer Oz: “I’m sure my niece killed my mother. Mavi had confessed to my daughter that she was going to kill her grandmother.” Based on the results of the investigation, it was decided to open a murder case. Sancar closes the file and takes a big breath.
Gulsiye, Zehra and Elvan are in the kitchen. Gulsiye asks, is this mansion cursed? Or that room? Or that bed? [yes, to all three, especially that room and bed] How many babies have been lost inside this mansion? Zehra says, I hope no other woman in her goes through this again. Mavi, too.
Gulsiye wants to make soup for Dudu but Elvan tells her to sit and relax, she will make the soup and then she will leave. [She going to make “tarhana”. You can find info and recipes online] Gulsiye tells Elvan she has a noble heart and that she doesn’t want her to leave the mansion. I know, Elvan says, I know you better than anyone. I have to go.
Necdet is on the Ahmet case with Kavruk and some other guy I don’t know. Necdet asks, what if we can’t convince Ahmet? What do we do? Hit him in the head and take him? What are you talking about, Kavruk replies, we are just going to speak with him. We are only talking to him, Kavruk firmly states, I will talk to him and try to convince him. Ahmet’s taxi arrives at the hotel and Kavruk pulls up behind. Everyone gets out of their cars.
Kavruk calls, Ahmet Bey, excuse me, can we talk? I’ve seen you before, Ahmet says, you’re Sancar Efe’s man. Why are you looking for me? Sancar Efe would like to speak with you, Kavruk replies. Wow, Sancar Efe wants me? What if I say no? No, this isn’t what you think, Kavruk says, he’s inviting you to the mansion. He wants to have a respectful conversation with you. I’ve got nothing to say to him, Ahmet replies, if it’s really that important, let him come here with Dudu. I’ll only talk to her.
Ahmet turns to go and Necdet pipes up, Sancar is waiting with Dudu at the mansion. He lays it on thick. She is very upset over what happened. Yahya didn’t want to marry her. These problems have us all on edge. I’m trembling and I can’t even eat. He sighs and turns to Kavruk, what are we going to do? We can’t force the man. Kavruk shrugs to play along. Necdet adds, if we say that Ahmet Bey doesn’t want to come, Dudu will be destroyed. Let’s go then. They walk and Ahmet tells them to wait, he’ll go. Necdet lets Ahmet get in the front seat. Kavruk gives Necdet a look to say “well done”.
Sancar arrives at the mansion, with Mavi’s file in hand. He’s greeted by Gulsiye. He asks for Dudu. She tells him it was lucky that Mavi was here, she saved us all. We wouldn’t have known what to do if she wasn’t with us. She took charge and helped Dudu. Sancar is pleased to hear it.
Mavi comes out and greets Sancar. Gulsiye leaves them alone. Sancar asks if they are alright. Yes, Mavi says that Melek doesn’t know what happened. But Dudu is destroyed. The doctor said she will be alright tomorrow, but she has to be watched during the night. She has no one at home, I told her to stay here. That’s good, he replies and asks her, what are you going to do? Are you going to stay with me? I promised, Sancar, she replies, poor Melek is suffering over her grandmother.
Mavi continues, [Turkish] Zehra is depressed and keeping everything to herself. She asks, is there something going on between Zehra and Kavruk? Sancar is surprised and wonders, did Zehra tell you? No, she didn’t, Mavi replies, I can see it in her eyes. They look at each other with a lot of affection. What they feel is pure love…. like you and me.
Mavi notices the file in Sancar’s hand. Is this your mother’s? Further discussion is stopped when Kavruk calls Sancar and tells him they have arrived. Sancar tells Mavi he has to take care of something and he will be right back. Mavi asks for the file, she will keep it for him. No, he will keep it and he quickly leaves.
The men meet at the stable. Your men told me you wanted to talk, Ahmet tells Sancar, they said Dudu was here. Do you want to threaten me now? No, Sancar says, I want to talk to you, man to man. I have bad news for you, başınız sağolsun, Dudu lost the baby. Ahmet grabs Sancar by the collar, why did you hurt Dudu?! Kavruk and Necdet step in but Sancar waves them away. Ahmet accuses them of killing the baby.
Sancar holds his hands up. Listen brother, I won’t raise a hand against you. I also have a child. How could we take the life of an innocent one? We are not that kind people. Look me in the eyes. I’m telling you the truth, let’s sit down. Sancar asks Necdet to bring water for Ahmet. Ahmet asks, how is Dudu? I want to see her. Sancar lets him know her life is not in danger, but she is destroyed. We didn’t want any of this to happen, believe me.
Sancar moves on. Look, what my mother did can’t be excused, but she is my mother. She’s had a bypass. I can’t leave her there, you know? Ahmet nods with understanding. [Turkish] We can’t fix what was done to you, but here I am in front of you, now you can do the same to me. If you forgive my mother, I will be grateful to you for the rest of my days. Ahmet says he wants to see Dudu and talk to her.
Yahya and Dudu have ended their relationship, Sancar tells him, but it’s not appropriate for you to see Dudu while Yahya is here. Yahya walks up and says this is a closed matter for him. If Dudu wants, he can see her. Are you sure, Sancar asks? Yahya nods. Kavruk and Necdet take Ahmet. Sancar and Yahya look at each other and Sancar pats his brother on the shoulder and leaves.
Ahmet enters the cursed bedroom. Dudu rolls her eyes. He kneels beside her and takes her hand. Tell me who did this to you? She pulls her hand away. It was you, Ahmet, she hisses, you destroyed my life. I lost the baby thanks to you, she cries, I also lost the man I love. My life is over. I hate you. If you hadn’t come, my life would be different. I’d have a big family. You ended my life. He says her name. She continues to spew, you caused this. I curse you. Get out. I want you to leave, now! Ahmet leaves. Dudu cries.
Sancar walks Ahmet out. Ahmet tells him, I want the past to be left behind. I will withdraw the complaint. But he warns, Guven and Sedat are obsessed with you. He also asks, can you safely bring me back to Denizli? Don’t worry, Sancar promises, we will bring you. He tells Kavruk to call Faruk so they can start the process and call the guys to deliver Ahmet safe and sound.
Guven shouts at his men, how did Ahmet disappear?! He just flew away? Go find him and don’t come back without him! Sedat has more bad news, Ahmet withdrew the complaint. Guven rips into Sedat for trusting in Ahmet. He calls him an idiot. Halise will get out of jail and they will live happily ever after, thanks to you! Sedat works hard to contain his temper. Calm down, he tells Guven. If Ahmet was that necessary for our plans, do you think I would let him quietly disappear?
Guven asks for further information. We have records in our hands, there is proof, Sedat says, even if Ahmet drops the complaint, a process will start. You and I want revenge, we want Sancar to suffer, right? I will destroy him.
Sancar is out on the porch, replaying Sedat’s words: “you have the real bomb next to you. It’s in your house. Your wife is a murderer.” A smiling Kavruk comes and tells Sancar, [Turkish] Helal olsun (meaning “well done” in this case), you are a great man. You always say that politeness is good. Everything went like clockwork. Excuse me, did you say something, distracted Sancar asks?
Kavruk replies, no, I’m talking to the tea set. I said that Ahmet decided to drop the case. We closed the subject. It was easy thanks to Ahmet. But something is missing, Halise Efe is not free, she will have to go to court. Sancar asks about Ahmet. Kavruk has sent him off with a lot of backup. It should be okay.
Kavruk notices Sancar’s mood and asks why so pensive? Your wife and daughter are upstairs. The fact that you are here drinking tea is normal, but why so serious? Sancar tosses Mavi’s file on the table. Another problem, Kavruk sighs and he sits to read. Sancar says, Mavi never spoke to me about this. One more secret about her life. This is a serious crime, Kavruk notes.
Sancar laments, why is it so difficult for me to be able to trust someone? Why does fate put me to the test with the people I love? I tell myself: “Sancar Efe, forget the past, look to the future, hold on to your loved ones.” Nevertheless, the doubts eat me away inside! I know, Kavruk says, but it’s better that you ask her what happened, instead of getting angry, it’s better she tells you. I’m not going to question her, Sancar replies, I’m not going to do that. And she won’t question me, that’s our agreement.
What could she question you about, Kavruk asks, seriously, I don’t understand, about what? She could ask any one around here, “who is Sancar Efe?” That person will tell her everything, starting with your childhood. Everyone in Mugla knows you. Let her investigate. Let her find out about you.
Kavruk continues, but this is something different. We never knew her. Look Sancar, don’t get angry, it was her husband who appeared. We don’t know her relatives, her friends. We don’t know what she does. A person has the traits from where the come from. Mavi is very peaceful here. But we don’t know how she was in Istanbul. This is a serious affair (referring to the case file), you need to know about it. If she really killed an elderly lady, the woman inside and the one named here are not the same Mavi.
That scares me so much, Sancar admits. And if she tells me yes? If she tells me she did this intentionally? What should I do, Kavruk?
And we are out!
Thanks for a spectacular recap.
Well; DuDu did ya really love Yahya or was he simply a means to an end? And yes that is be the room of miscarriages.
Kavruk deserves the award for best advice. Now Sanjar is a bit screwed. How do you ask "So you killed Granny huh?". Yeah that is a bit of a tuff one.
FEV
Halise of course the poor put upon mother, who only wants the best for her kids.
Thanks, Dondi, this is really good. I think Yaya was a way to get to live in the mansion. I doubt Dudu loved him. But without another man’s baby maybe they will get back together. Is trying to pass off another’s man baby as yours a forgivable offense? I bet he forgives Halise! And he told Elvan his mother fooled them both with his sterility, but he knew. Maybe he had some doubts but deep down he knew. Otherwise why would he have doubted Dudu. I’m glad Elvan is still going to leave the house.
I’m glad Ahmet gave up so easily. And warned Sancar. Now we have to find out the truth about Mavi. And get a couple of romances started. Sancar is a much more reasonable character this season.
Liz
Dear Dondi, thank you for another excellent account of an episode that brought some sadness and secrets. I almost deleted the episode because I recorded it and it wasnt labeled La Hija. ...but rather the news show.
I suppose that eventually we will find out that Mavi's aunt had reasons to frame Mavi, but will San talk to Mavi about what SeedySedat told him , or will he just keep gazing at her suspiciously and maybe keep Melek away from her...yikes, I hope not. It will be interesting to see where they will all live . Will San and Melek live at the mansion and Mavi in her gorgeous house by the sea . Sedat is a madman . I here to think what his next move will be as San tries to hold on to his temper and not resort to kidnapping and headbutting.
A miscarriage is a scary thing and can happen anytime without warning . My Farmer friend told me that her doctor told her that if the pregnancy is secure, you can go on a corn husker (which is a very bumpy ride ) and be fine. I must admit that I felt sad for Du because it is an upsetting , devastating experience.
Have Kman and fam evaporated ?
Urban, your recaps are so powerful and convey everything with crystal clarity.
"Vicente ended his relationship with Patricia. She was angry. He told her she would not be turned out onto the streets". How magnanimous.
"Then they played pool and drank to small victories, like frat boys". Behaving badly.
"Vicente prayed alone" really struck me.
Thank you Urban!
Diana
I have to say that no matter what the Fernandez family thinks of this series or its source I think that Pablo has been giving a stellar performance. He seems to be acquiring a talent for nuance, which he may have been learning from the great Jorge Salinas, whom he has worked with in at least three novelas. Serious subtleties of facial expression are so important in things like this.
I also think that he relates to Vicente because of the family tragedies he has endured himself. His two brothers were murdered three years apart and his father died in 2019.
Patricia had to expect that the relationship would eventually end. She may have felt that her longevity in the relationship was working in her favor and I doubt that Vicente ever told her that he had to promise Refugio that he would not have children with other women.
What shocks me the most about all this is Refugio's willingness to adopt them. I don't think she knew at the outset that he was Alejandra's sperm donor. That is so messed up.
Dondi your recap is flawlessly amazing as always! I so appreciate your hard work and willingness to share all the details of this fascinating show with us!!
I too thought Yaya copped out by blaming Halise for deceiving them both but is anyone surprised Yaya chose a cop out?? Heck, I was surprised he told her at all and maybe a little disappointed because I figured she would just be pregnant and the look of surprise and confusion on her face when she found out would have been awesome!! The actress is great with the facial expressions/comedy!
I don't understand the I won't communicate with my wife/husband approach. How do you build a functioning marriage and just not ask about the time she maybe/might have killed her aunt??? Lol that is crazy but Sancar is kinda crazy so....
I have been thinking the same thing about KMAN Susanlynn! I miss him and his bead breaking ways! And his interactions with Muge we're way more interesting than the odd Muge/Given connection. I wonder if the actor wanted out of the production early or something; or if it was a creative decision to write the character off? Or maybe he'll pop back up when we least expect it?
Thanks, Dondi.
Dudu is understandably devastated, but she and Yahya were not a love match. She gloated over Gulsiye that while Gulsiye was a mere servant she (Dudu) would be a lady of the mansion. Dudu was calculating and pretended to be what she thought Yahya wanted. Maybe if she'd told him she got pregnant by another while they "were on a break," he would've accepted it since he wanted to be a dad so badly.
I'm thinking of the comedy "So I Married an Axe Murderer." So if Mavi murdered her grandmother when she was young, why did Sedat marry her and want to stay married to her? Why would this put Melek in any danger? If Mavi's a crazed person after grannies, Halise would be the one in danger, not Melek. Sancar, give Mavi the file and stay silent, see what she says.
I miss Kman too.
It will be interesting to see where the writers are going to take this story. Sedat is going to be tall trouble with Guven's legendary hatred of San stirring that pot. Ugh Melek needs peace and love, but Mavi and San will have to focus on Sedat . Now , Sedat has put doubts in San's mind about Mavi.
OT ..Dondi , I am trying to get through "Godspeed " but it is so dark and depressing , and I don't expect a HEA.
Thanks everyone!
I’m not a Yahya fan, but I’ll say a few things on his behalf. Initially, Halise deceived both Yahya and Elvan when she forced the doctor to cover up Yahya’s condition. When Yahya went for the secret second opinion, he became complicit, and he cruelly allowed Elvan to suffer.
Halise was up to old tricks with Dudu’s pregnancy. Yahya was willing to believe at first, but doubts surfaced once Ahmet turned up. At least now he’s taking some responsibility. Great move to say no at the wedding table. He had that convo with Sancar and confessed to Elvan. I can’t help but think if this took place in Midyat, we’d likely have a dead Dudu.
ITA, Niecie, Dudu’s treatment of Gulsiye was awful. Yes, the miscarriage was a terrible thing. I guess we are supposed to feel sorry for Dudu now. They’re making it seem like all she ever wanted was the big loving family she never had while growing up. She was more in love with that idea than with Yahya.
Niecie, lol: “I'm thinking of the comedy "So I Married an Axe Murderer."
Yep, Liz, thank goodness Ahmet came to his senses quickly. The last thing we needed was a love triangle with Yahya, Dudu and Ahmet. It was good he warned Sancar. But it was no surprise for Efe.
I miss Kman, too. I enjoyed watching his wheels turn and the bead breaking! When the new writers came in and Neslihan left, there was little choice but to take a new direction. They were lucky Tuba was willing and able to join the show.
ITA, Darcy: Kman/Muge was much more interesting than “the odd Muge/Given connection”. Muge has bad judgment in the company she keeps.
ITA, Fev, “Kavruk deserves the award for best advice.” Kavruk deserves an HEA. I love him.
I agree it’s not easy viewing. No spoilers, but I suggest that you watch to the very end. Do it for Engin, lol. There were flaws but there were a few scenes I thought were very well done. IMHO, it was a good little film. I wish I could read the novel.
