La Herencia, #15, Tuesday, 08/02/22 God bless Santa Catalina... and her shirtless sons
On the Millan’s front lawn, Juan and Julieta fight about her relationship with Mateo. He doesn’t want to hear any of her explanations, but she insist and says she never gave it much importance, that’s why she never said anything. Juan say Mateo trying to kill himself for her is important, so Julieta declares she loves him and only him. Juan says he doesn’t love her back, he was just using her in his loneliness. Juli wonders if this has anything to do with her jealousy, but Juan say no, they are over and she has to respect his decision! He apologizes, but he doesn’t want to hurt her anymore. Julieta blames Sara, Juan says this is about much more than that. Julieta finally caves and they agree to keep things professional at work (won’t that be fun to watch).
Lucas visits Sara in her room. They chat
about the mess in their lives and then Lucas mentions the next day it’s Santa
Catalina’s Day, a moment of celebration in their house. Sara is looking forward
to having some fun for once.
In the study Prospero tells Deb she can’t
partner with Rosa, because his wife almost discovered their affair. Deb says
that’s not an issue, tries to jump his bones in Saint Severiano’s office, but
Prospi pushes her away. Deb says she will never tell Rosa the truth, but Prospi
might. He swears he could never leave his family and doesn’t respond when Deb
asks if he’d suffer if Rosa left him. Deb continues to kiss him just as Pedro
walks in and reminds them this is not a hotel. But they can proceed, they make
a great pair. Prospi tries to say they were talking business, Pedro is not
fooled and reminds Deb this is his father’s study.
More of Mopey Mateo, who is afraid his
brother Juan will never forgive him. If only he could change and become a new
and improved Mateo. Modesto encourages him to cry if he needs to, Mateo
remembers Severiano didn’t like to see him like this.
Alone with Deb, Pedro remarks how much she
likes to destroy people around her, especially families. If he finds out she
was the one to give that wine to Mateo, he will destroy her. What if Rosa were
to find out about Prospi? Deb warns him not to mess with her, so Pedro actually
chokes her, saying he’s only using Prospi now as he used Seve in the past. Deb
just smirks.
Juan is in chapel, praying. He needs to
talk to God, ask him for strength and clarity, to find the best way to fulfil
his father’s wishes. Enter Sara, who kneels next to Juan, asking him not to
leave. She is sorry for the fighting, she wants nothing more then to keep the
peace and work together – she grabs his hand as she speaks, he asks her not to
leave him, they talk some mumbo jumbo about receiving with open arms things
they’ve been waiting for all your lives… Are these two going to kiss already,
or do they plan on wasting the little chemistry they have on gibberish?
The next day, at the stables, Bryan and
Lucas talk about Jessica and Bryan thanks Lucas for helping them cover their
relationship. Neither men likes the situation, but since they don’t have the
pantalones to protest, Jess is going to decide their lives, I guess. Sara
arrives, so Bryan leaves. Lucas tells her about being pretend boyfriend to
Jess, but he likes someone else. Sara
encourages him to be himself and tell the girl what he feels. Lucas realizes she
doesn’t have a horse yet, so he decides he will buy her one.
Stop everything you’re doing on the Patio
and glue your eyes to the screen, because Pedro is doing a workout routine.
Shirtless. Huffing and puffing, brooding for our viewing pleasure. Deb sees him
through the opened door and of course she can’t help herself but provoke him (I
bet she’d like a piece of that instead of the middle aged men she usually gets
to bang). Pedro says he is working out to conquer a beautiful woman, and no, it’s
not her, he’s not into older women. Besides, she has Prospi, she can “work”
with him. Deb says his charms might work on country girls, but not on someone
like her daughter Sara, who only likes men like Juan. This touches a nerve with
Pedro, who promises Deb he will win Sara over. If the guy had a little bit of
actual self-confidence and not just misplaced arrogance he’d see he’s a better
catch than his too serious, no fire, no sparkle older brother.
Juan and Modesto are in the kitchen, drinking
coffee and talking about Mateo, who is doing better. Then Juan mentions his
relationship status with Juli, Modesto thinks the break up is for the better.
Then Juan goes searching for Sara.
Intermission of Adela and her family… she
realizes Brandon and Dulce have something going on and the two have to confess they
are novios. Adela then asks Augie to help her decorate the chapel for the Santa
Catalina party.
Rosa is dressed up for the party, mistaking
Austrians for Australians. She is waiting for Juli to get ready so they can all
go to the ranch and witness as Juli takes her rightful place as a patrona and
whatnot.
Juan finds Sara at the stables and wants to
talk to her. He broke up with Juli because he couldn’t be with her anymore, he
doesn’t love her. Sara mentions the promise he made to her parents, but Juan
wants to start over with someone he truly loves… He’s getting closer just in
time for Pedro to arrive with a horse, which he wants to offer to Sara. Sara
doesn’t want to accept Pedro’s gift, but Juan encourages her to do it, Pedro
rarely gives heartfelt presents.
Alondra and Julieta cry over the men in
their lives: Alondra over Lucas and Juli because Juan left her. Alondra thinks
her sister needs to fight for him.
It’s party time. The Del Montes arrive on
their horses, while the ranch people clap. Rosa thinks they are all so
handsome, just like their father was. Not knowing about the break up, her
parents practically push Julieta into a kiss with Juan, only steps away from
Mateo. They all wonder where Simon is.
Well, he is shirtless, ironing his clothes
and remembering the day of the accident and his father asking for him not to
leave. We see that he eventually goes back for Severiano and we return to the
present day, where Simon is in a fetal position on the floor, crying and apologizing
to his father for not saving him.
Julieta takes Juan aside to tell him she
hasn’t spoken to her parents yet. He says he will talk to them, too, but then
he gets distracted by Sara appearing on her new horse. More clapping ensues and
Pedro is the one to help her off the horse. Modesto looks upset when he sees
that Bertha has come, too, but quickly covers his agitation by giving some
orders about the arrangement of the tables.
Enter Deb, who marvels at the sight of Sara’s
horse. Pedro’s gift and Deb notices he doesn’t waste any time. Not that it
matters, since it looks like Sara only has eyes for Juan. After she leaves, Deb
and Pedro quarrel for a bit, in an almost friendly manner.
Sara says hello to Julieta, they complement
each other and they chat politely for a second.
Lucas has come to search for Simon, who’s
still on the floor. He’s OK, he just remembered dad’s death – he was there the
day he died, he has a hard time getting over it. He hugs Lucas, apologizes for
failing – it’s worth noting that he’s still shirtless and he “wears” it well.
It’s time for the celebration. Julieta runs
to stand next to Juan (and Mateo) in the first rang. Sara and Pedro are in the
front, too, on the other side and Juli remarks how good they look together.
Rosa is outside, searching for her other daughters when Deb arrives to say that
she’d love to travel together to Milan (not Millan) when they become partners. Rosa
takes advantage of this to say some more nonsense about Europe to Bertha’s
horror. Then they both go, leaving Prospi with Deb. They eventually go inside
the chapel.
Jess and Bryan are making out behind a
wall. He’s upset because of what happened with his mother’s shop, but that shouldn’t
affect them, Jess thinks. Alondra arrives to warn that Rosa could see them and
here she is, scolding her daughter and asking Bertha to fight Bryan (!) But he
won’t hit a woman and Bertha wants a fair fight. So Rosa accuses Bryan of being
too poor for his daughter, maybe she should see how it is to live in poverty.
Bryan says love should be enough, but Rosa couldn’t care less. Bryan leaves and
Rosa drags Jess to the chapel.
Paloma is upset she couldn’t go to the party,
too, because her father didn’t let her (how old is this girl, isn’t she almost
a lawyer, so very much a grown up?) Tadeo would like to go to the party with
his mom and tio Pedro, but Corni doesn’t want to let him. He asks Tadeo to stop
calling Pedro his uncle and badmouths Bea. Salvador and Paloma promptly
intervene, Paloma even warns him about the legal repercussions of parent alienation.
Even Tadeo protests to his father speaking badly of mom. Poor child.
Now it’s time for the food and some cheers
in Santa Catalina’s honor. The brothers are all sharing a table and Augustin is
sitting with them, due to Juan’s invitation (even if Pedro asks him to sit
someplace else).
At Prospi’s table, Deb mentions wanting to
change his old fashioned looks, even if she loves him none the less. She tries
to suggest a romantic rendez vous later on, but Prospi says no. Rosa arrives
with her other two daughters (Juli is at Juan’s table).
Time for a speech from Juan, the new patron: he speaks about family unity and love, their great father, may he rest in peace, his legacy etc.. etc… The crowd then asks for a speech from the patrona, Sara, but she hesitates just enough for Juli to take advantage and grab the microphone from Juan and say it’s her turn to speak now. Nobody looks happy, except for Rosa.

I wasn’t able to watch and as I cannot comment on what I did not see, I will quote but a few of your excellent lines.
“Shirtless. Huffing and puffing, brooding for our viewing pleasure” - oh my!! Something to look forward to. This brings back fond memories of the FELS fabulous “baker” boys stripping off their aprons (among other things), cooling off in the water after a hot day of baking that delicious bread. (doris? Niecie?)
“Rosa is dressed up for the party, mistaking Austrians for Australians” had me laughing out loud. Now THAT I have to see.
It appears Little Debbie is not going to go quietly. Or at all. I only hope that she does give Prospi that makeover so we can enjoy the “real” handsome Julian Gil.
“If only he could change and become a new and improved Mateo”. Yes, if only.
“they don’t have the pantalones to protest” seems to be the recurring theme here. Will Juan weaken? Will Pedro grow a conscience? Will Simon ever straighten out? Will Mateo ever dry out? Endless questions and possibilities.
I so enjoy your summaries Adriana – a delight from start to finish.
Diana
Diana, I, too, hope that the “real handsome” Julián Gil appears soon. No, I don’t think “little Debbie” is going anywhere soon either.
More later.
Totally agree about Paloma. Salvador forbidding her to go to this...celebration? Shouldn't she know that he has no legal right to do this?
Juli Stepford is playing dirty pool here. She is trying to back Juan into a corner, which will lead to nowhere good. She needs to learn that you can't make anyone love you. Her Poor Little Me look as coverup is also making me think her more pathetic than ever. Her younger sisters are much more interesting.
Why, why, WHY a fight between Berta and Bryan (and why does he have an Anglo name)? This was beyond absurd.
Simon's guilt trip is a little late, but necessary.
WTH was that Sara was wearing? I would find that monumentally awkward, especially when riding a horse I don't really know yet.
Lovely horses, as usual. We should see some foals in a while.
"Mopey Mateo" is perfect.
Double treat of "gratuitous shirtlessness" last night!
Sara, in the chapel, with her blouse opened up all the way to the waist and her bra showing and all but hanging out. In a church. QTH?
What was up with her white strapless bodice top at the festival, other than to make a Grand Entrance. ~massive eye-roll~ I kept thinking that if she has on sunscreen, it might stain all that white fabric.
Then there was the contrast of Sara's partial-shirtlessness contrasting with Rosa's top with the fur choker collar and cuffs. QTH???
"Rosa is dressed up for the party, mistaking Austrians for Australians. "
Thank you! I missed that explanation. Yet, still...
Diana - Yes! Great memories. We need some swimming and shower scenes, too. I'll take those "baker" boys over this gang any day. ALL the Reyes bros. were likeable, adorable, fun, and had good hearts.
Interesting to see the brothers at the fiesta table. You know how "the good guys always wear white hats"? Pedro was wearing a black hat. Hmmm.....
Or Alejandro Fernandez in his black leather.
I hope he got combat pay for wearing black in the hot Mexican weather.
Diana, yes, the fabulous Baker Boys...baking , riding gorgeous horses, showering, swimming .
How many times does Juan have to tell Juli that they are not getting married? Sometimes people just don't accept" no. "
Urban, yes to men in black. I always liked the look of a black dress shirt . Pedro , the bad boy in black who knows he is a bad boy and enjoys being a bad boy. He puts Juan in the shade.
You can be a good guy and still be a hot guy. A handsome man who doesn't know he is handsome is charming .
Rose telling Deb to fight was a bit ridiculous! Glad it never happened. And Julia picking up the microphone was awkward but I don’t think Sara has that right either!
I like Cornelio less and less every episode. Hated him bad mouthing Bea to their son. Glad it was stopped.
Anxious to hear what Julia says!
Liz
Pedro Saud " Wow" 3 or 4 tines when he walked in on Prospi and Deb in Sev's office. He looked delighted to discover them . When he grabbed Deb's throat and pushed her to the wakl, Deb seemed to enjoy it. These two like baiting each other . Then , Pedro left his bedroom door open as he was working out , and Deb walked by but went back for a look.
Evidently , Pedro and Simon are the designated shirtless eye candy in this show. Is that put into their contracts ?
Sara went from the unbuttoned blouse to a white blouse with only the bottom half of the sleeves . She always looks like she forgot to finish dressing . Those huge, flowy half sleeves would drive me crazy. I get the feeling that Michelle hasn't had my chance experience with horses . Pedro practically lifted her off the horse .
Not really interested in jealous Juju and her silly sisters.
In the church , when Juli told Juan that Pedro and Sara looked good together , Pedro gave Juan a sly grin " Hey, look at me . I'm standing next to Sara !" Such a little brother look. I also noticed that when Lucas and Simon walked up to the front of the church, Deb walked out.
Berta Poppins showed up in her flowered hat holding her umbrella . She and Modesto look cute together.
I feel sorry for Tadeo being pulled different ways by the adults who should be protecting him. Corny and Pedro are both immature hotheads. Poor kid.
Oh the horses! All of them beautiful beasts, one more than the next. That black and white one stole my heart a bit.
Urban, the Bryan/Berta fight was ridiculous. Is Berta forced to wear her uni 24/7?? I like that she remains visually fairly unreactive to Rosa although you sense she feels for those in her line of fire.
Black is Pedro's color. Wishful sigh ensues.
Liz, there's been so many "hints" about Prospi's "makeover", the writers must come through! Can't wait. Agree with you that Cornelio badmothing Bea to Tadeo was terrible. Any bit of sympathy I had for him has long since evaporated.
"What was up with her white strapless bodice top at the festival, other than to make a Grand Entrance. ~massive eye-roll~" made me smile doris. Inexplicable.
Susanlynn, yes, Eduardo, Jorge and Pedro (the Reyes bros) were the hottest sibs ever. Happy memorable moment.
Diana
It's about time gratuitous shirtlessness showed up. ;>
Diana, yes, the fabulous baker boys of FELS ... taking showers ... kneading bread... skinny dipping. Unforgettable.
Kudos to Juan. He didn't just tell Julieta he was done because she didn't tell about Mateo, but told her straight out he didn't love her. Now whatever cockamamie crap she comes up with to still hang onto him is all on her.
I know Pedro is the villain, but I was surprised he said something at the Del Monte family table that clearly hurt Augustin's feelings.
I thought of FELS too when Berta threatened Bryan with fisticuffs. The baker boys had a maid who'd get into ridiculous stunts for comic relief.
Diana
Was Catalina buried in the same crypt on the grounds of the del Monte ranch ???????
Steve Boudreaux
As for whether Catalina and Severiano are buried near each other we'd have to go back to his funeral, which was in the first week of the series.
