La herencia #17 Friday 8/5/22 Notes from My Couch . . .
. . . with a glass of wine tonight and some neapolitan sandwich cookies.
These observations are in no way complete, so please feel to add what you saw.
- Oh, no! Simón is shocked that Deb would file a complaint against him for being violent to a woman. Simón is arrested and taken to talk to a police officer at the station. He and his dense brothers cannot get it through their thick heads that he didn't have to lay a hand on Deb for her to have a complaint charged against him for threatening and insulting comments. It is a case of gender violence. Simón admits to arguing with Deb but it had nothing to do with Deb being a woman. Dante tells the officer it is Deb's word against his client's. The policeman lets Simón off.
-Lucas tells Sara that the problem is that Deb was their father's lover. That even bothers him. Hmmm, why doesn't anyone ever ask why daddy was out alley catting around having multiple affairs???
-After arguing with Beatriz and giving her a copy of the DNA test, Pedro exercises his parental rights and takes Tadeo to the hacienda. He tells her that the boy needs to live the life he deserves and not a life in poverty with her. He says he will bring the boy back. What she doesn't know is that he is going to sue her so she loses all rights to Tadeo.
-Sara tells her mother that she complicated everything with filing charges and she wants her to leave the hacienda for her own safety and peace of mind. She can go back to the apartment in Mexico City. Juan tells Deb he wants her out of the house. Deb ends up at Prospi and Rosa's with her suitcases. Surprise!!!
-Brandon is following all of the poor masculine role models in the novela by asking Dulce to be his novia when he never broke up with his previous novia who confronts him and Dulce about that. Dulce is not happy and doesn't want to be bothered by Brandon any more.
-Brayan and Jessica have gotten married.
-Juli comes by to apologize to Sara.
-Rosa tells Adela to keep her son away from her daughter. Adela tells Rosa to keep her daughter away from her son. Adela reminds her that Catalina almost ended up going to jail because of something that Rosa did. Adela adds what was even worst and was unforgivable is what she did to poor Paloma's mother. Rosa denies having done anything to Paloma's mother IRMA. Everyone knew she was a shameless woman. Adela says that Rosa is the shameless one who made her (Adela) look bad in front of her ex-husband and for what she did to Catalina. Rosa is only interested in the future. Salvador arrives on the scene and tells Rosa to go spray her venom somewhere else. Rosa sprays them both with something.
-Pedro brings Tadeo to the hacienda and shows him that it all belongs to him. He also tells him he is his father. Tadeo looks confused. Pedro finally says that he loves him "like" a son. It was just his uncle Pedro kidding around with him. Okay . . .
-Paloma only needs four more courses to get her law degree. She tells her father they need to hire another waitress so she can continue her studies and help out Beatriz. He isn't interested. Modesto comes by to tells them that Simón was arrested and why. Paloma wants to go to him. Salvador forbids her because Simón is an aggressive man that doesn't suit a woman like her. (Geez, he is right on that one) Paloma argues that he has always been good with her. Salvador says his house, his rules. She tells her father that she thinks that her mother left because he didn't value her. She tries to leave but Salvador pulls her back warning her that Simón will only destroy her life. Modesto asks Salvador if he wants Paloma to find out the truth about her mother. He tells Paloma that her father is the one who will have to tell her that truth.
-Pedro finally tells Juan that Tadeo is his son. Juan isn't happy that the brothers have kept it a secret from him. Their father never wanted them to have secrets from each other. Pedro wants Juan to unconditionally support him in taking Tadeo to live at the ranch. Juan cannot do that because he thinks that Tadeo needs to be with his mother. It seems that Pedro sees that as betrayal. Cornelio comes to pick up Tadeo. Pedro goes nuts but the brothers keep him under control. Juan tells Pedro he isn't the father that Tadeo needs.
-Sara is surprised to find out from Modesto that Severiano always sent a monthly maintenance check to Deb so they would never want for anything. Modesto says her mother lied to her saying that Severiano didn't support them. She confronts her mother about it. Deb denies it saying that she warned her that Modesto would try to pit them against each other. Deb tells her to ask Dante who knows all about the Del Monte finances.
That is is for tonight!

While the oppressive heat has effectively quelled my appetite, as long as blood flows in my veins, there will always be room for Neapolitan cookies!
The flashbacks to the young, abused Pedro and Juan are always heartbreaking. Pedro begging for and receiving comfort from his older brother, begging him not to leave him was hard to watch, as was the present-day scene when he cried and clung to Juan. It’s hard to reconcile this wounded man child with the heartless tyrant who coldly tears Bea apart.
Everyone was trying to shield Modesto from hearing that Tadeo is Pedro’s son. Except Pedro of course. His tears when he told Tadeo he is his father were real although his blurting the truth out showed he was thinking only of himself. If he had only stopped to consider how the child might feel!
My favorite scene was Prospi’s opening the door wearing yet another strange, striped inexplicable outfit. Now that Deb’s arrived to ruin another household, dare we hope that his makeover not be far behind?
“Rosa tells Adela to keep her son away from her daughter”. Too late! These two newly minted mother in laws will be continuing their contentious relationship. Family dinners are going to be fun!
“Simón admits to arguing with Deb but it had nothing to do with Deb being a woman”. True enough as Simon is pretty pissy with everyone.
“Salvador forbids her because Simón is an aggressive man that doesn't suit a woman like her. (Geez, he is right on that one).” He is but he is harboring secrets and is in constant bad humor except with Adela.
Sara was again wearing angelic white. I wish she would be given something else to do other than stare incredulously at Deb or look sad or concerned. Come to think of it, having Juan stop his scowling and ramp up other emotions would be very helpful.
Jarifa, a wonderful recap. Thank you so much.
Diana
Despite being an atheist I'm sure Deborah would melt if you threw holy water on her. Juan was absolutely right to try to make her leave.
Pedro needs a shrink. His intentions may be good in wanting to give Tadeo the kind of life he finally got when Severiano and Catalina adopted him and Juan, but he isn't thinking rationally in this process. Both Juan and Simon told him that this revelation could really hurt Tadeo and cause him psychological issues for years. Beatriz isn't rich, but she is a loving mother. Their home is clean and comfortable. She does not deserve to lose custody of him.
It disturbs me that Salvador appears to have no respect for Paloma's ambitions. She needs her study time from this point on and if Salvador's saloon is the only game in town -- as in many other novelas -- he shouldn't have any issue hiring a new waitress and paying her a basic wage. This is making me really wonder what happened to his wife.
Modesto really likes being a grandfather. He fits the traditional image well. I hope he survives this tale.
In case it matters to anyone, Juan Carlos Baretto is 65 years old. Veronica Jaspeado (Berta) is 46.
Maybe more later.
I've got the popcorn ready to share with the Patio for the scene when Rosa finds out Jessica married not-a-Del-Monte Brayan.
Where are those kids going to live? Does Jessi have a job? Oh. Right. Telenovela Beanie hat time.
Modesto telling Sara that Seve always sent support money was an eye-opener for Sara. Sara has probably never had a reason to doubt her mother's word and she still wants to believe her. Why wouldn't she? Hopefully there will be a moment of clarity for Sara regarding Deb.
Prospi's shorts outfit was a hoot, and his walking gait even funnier, like a very old man. Looks like he is bow-legged but I suspect the actor was working at that.
URBAN said: "...I'm sure Deborah would melt if you threw holy water on her. "
Agree! I was surprised she didn't catch fire or at least get struck by lightening in the chapel for the Santa Catalina event.
The convo Rosa and Adela had about Irma was interesting, and the plot thickens.
Simon has some anger issues. Dr. Phil needs to make an appearance ASAP.
Mateo & Annoying Julieta: Fast Forward.
Juan & Santa Evita (I meant Goldie Locks Sara): Yep.
Crazy Pedro still plotting EVIL 24/7.
Gold-Digger Debbie still a scheming Gold-Digger.
Doris: Goldie Locks Sara needs a reality check regarding her Gold-Digging Mommy.
UA: I still do NOT feel sorry for Beatriz. She should've thought about her marriage to Cornelio when she opened her legs to Crazy Pedro.
Diana: I've noticed that Goldie Locks Sara is wearing white alot. She's probably auditioning for the role of the late Argentine Republic First Lady Eva Duarte de Peron in a future documentary/movie.
Steve Boudreaux
Julian Gil needs more hair to distract from his exaggerated cheekbones. I strongly doubt he would want to gain more weight to make them less visible.
Maybe Jessica should be the new waitress at Salvador's because they will need more money than Bryan can earn supervising the avocado pickers. He probably is too proud to take money from Prospero, who might offer it. Unless Jessica takes it to become a partner with Adele in the flower biz. Either way Rosa's conniption will be a laugh riot.
I do feel bad for Beatriz because she was vulnerable after Cornelio having hit her the first time. We also can't forget Pedro's responsibility in the aftermath of that. He can't use that against her in a custody case because he is just as guilty.
"Salvador forbids her because Simón is an aggressive man that doesn't suit a woman like her. (Geez, he is right on that one)" Yep, Paloma definitely deserves better. I still can't understand how Salvador can FORBID Paloma to go somewhere. Dude! She's an ADULT! I bet that he was just as controlling with his wife.
"My favorite scene was Prospi’s opening the door wearing yet another strange, striped inexplicable outfit. Now that Deb’s arrived to ruin another household, dare we hope that his makeover not be far behind?" LOL! I hope so, Diana!
Steve, I agree with Urban. Bea has been a good mother and she doesn't deserve to lose custody of Tadeo. Also, Pedro is also guilty of the same thing. Lastly, Tadeo wants to live with his mom. Let's at least respect what the kid wants.
Your snack gave you the fortitude to write about all these unhappy feuding folks. This heatwave has me relying on hardboiled eggs ,tomatoes, salads , lots of fruit, frozen fruit popsicles . I guess I will make some cucumber salad and maybe buy a watermelon next shopping trip.
I am watching the recording of the show now. The editing is odd. Pedro is at Bea's harassing her about being Tadeo's dad . At the end of the scene, Bea runs up the stairs. Then there is a Brief scene of Sara and Deb talking in Deb's bedroom. Next, we are back in Bea's living room , and Pedro and Bea are fighting again. I cannot believe the way Pedro smirks and outright laughs at Bea. He is infuriating in his unfeeling arrogance . Pedro forgets his favorite expression " wow" and instead says " ew-eee!!" I want him to be a better man. Those flashbacks of Juan and Pedro as poor , neglected little boys are heartbreaking , but instead of his sad start in life making Pedro kind and empathetc , he is arrogant , cynical, selfish and mocking .He doesn't seem to take anything seriously. Everything is a big joke to him. I don't get it .
Hmmm....what did Rosa do to Catalina , Irma, and Adela? Rosa Is a shallow social climber as toxic as Deb. I wonder if we will find out anything about her background . Was she a poor girl who married rich Prospi, so she is obsessed with her daughters marrying wealthy guys.
If Sara goes to Diego for the truth she won’t get it! I can’t believe she doesn’t see her mother for what she really is.
Poor Próspero! But now I’m anxious for Rosa to find out about hubby and her new best friend. Deb is really brazen, just showing up with her suitcases. If they do let her stay the daughters should catch on to her! Although Juli hasn’t yet.
Pedro is a big disappointment. He just seems to one-up Juan by having the first heir and he’s not concerned at all for Tadeo.
I think Paloma’s mother is still alive. She is going to be very angry with her dad. I also wonder if she left willingly or was forced to go and leave her daughter behind.
Liz
"Sara has probably never had a reason to doubt her mother's word and she still wants to believe her. Why wouldn't she?" doris, I completely agree. Deb is all Sara has (poor child) and at this point couldn't even begin to fathom Deb's deceptive doings.
"I still can't understand how Salvador can FORBID Paloma to go somewhere. Dude! She's an ADULT! I bet that he was just as controlling with his wife". Well said Weirdo!! I can tell we share the same sense of humor. And I agree with Liz and others that she is very much still alive and is waiting behind the curtain to make an appearance.
Can't wait for Rosa to hear Jess' good news!! :)
Diana
Love Abuelo Modesto in his macho " apron" making food with Tadeo. I wonder if the actor is an abuelo in real life . He is a handsome hombre, a silver fox.
You'd think that Salvador would want Paloma to get that law degree so she'd have more options. But maybe that's what he's afraid of -- that she'd "option" to leave him and become independent.
I know I'm all alone on the patio, but I like Simon -- when he's not being an a** and rude to Sara. In a way, it's sweet how he rattles at Deb out of loyalty to his mom. Sorry I don't remember who said it earlier, but I agree with you that Catalina, otherwise a wonderful mother, was dead wrong to make little Simon her confidante in her distress over Sev's cheating.
Pedro is taking out his hatred of his mom on Bea. The other day he goaded Cornelio by calling Bea a cualquiera. Poor Bea, Pedro doesn't give a wit about her.
Urban, while Pedro was screaming at Bea that he can't allow Tadeo to live in such poverty, I was like: WTH, dude, I've never seen a cleaner, brighter house - go ahead and take Tadeo in your chaotic MANSION, with the alcoholic, the pshyco-mad man, the man child, the bastard and her atrocius mother, the obssesed ex who drops by constantly... you get my point.
Doris, going by the way Jess and Bryan were hiding from Brandon, I don't think they will tell anyone they got married, they will keep living apart until we risk having a drama free episode and one of them explodes. Having her work for Salvador would be great if only to see Rosa's face when she actually has to go to "that" place.
Weirdo, I agree also that Bea has been a good mother and certainly doesn't deserve to lose her child over cheating. The one thing that bothers me about her is that it was not a one time thing, it was an ongoing affair, that Pedro put a stop to. She has been deceaving Cornelio for over 6 years and while I understand her reasons back then, she should have left her marriage a long time ago.
Susanlynn, I was very touched by that scene between Juan and Pedro. I think Pedro changed when Seve started bonding with Juan in a more meaningful manner. Catalina was probably busy with the younger brothers, and he felt left out. I so wish he could be redeemed, but I'm starting to doubt it.
Niecie, I think Salvador is holding on to Paloma because he doesn't want to lose her like he did her mother. Of course his attidude will push her away, but he's so unlikable he deserves it.
I also kind of like Simon and I was the one (or one of the ones ) who said that Catalina messed with his head when she took him as a confidente. When he witnessed her fighting with Deb she should have realized that asking him to keep it a secret would cause him irreparable damage.
ADRIANA NOEL
Even if we look at Tadeo's options, Bea is the best one. As you said, Pedro's place is chaotic and I don't think he has the parenting skills to raise Tadeo. Cornelio is abusive (and not biologically related to Tadeo, but that's less important that the abusive thing). Beatriz is the right choice here. That's what Tadeo wants too.
At the end of the last episode , when Juan and Pedro went to bring Sara back, Sara looked very sorry for Pedro. She was holding Tad when the big fight broke out between Corny and Pedro. She should have taken Tadeo out of the room instead of standing there allowing him to see the brothers holding onto Pedro and Corny to keep them apart. A sad situation.
As for Salvador it is not unusual for parents like him to not welcome the upscaling of their children. I was on the receiving end of that from a narcissistic mother who resented the fact that I didn't have to depend on men to get my bills paid. She resented that I had more education than she had and had options not open to her or much of her generation. Some parents fear the possibility of being snubbed by their children in such situations.
Come to think of it, he has never mentioned his mother either.
Having Modesto and Cornelio be fathers of the heart, but not the blood, would be an interesting twist.
