La herencia #19 Tuesday 08/10/22 "Some want to fight for love, others just love fighting"

When Juan doesn’t answer Cornelio’s plea for help, Cornelio swears the entire Del Monte clan is now an enemy to him – his uncle was right about them all along. Sara asks Pedro to leave, and he agrees but only because she is asking it. Juan is upset with Dante for keeping him out of the loop again (if only you knew).

Convo between Deb and Bertha is hilarious. Deb admits to dating Salvador (LOL), sends him air kisses and asks for more tequila. Salvador doesn’t seem to mind that much. As they chat and drink, the women even become friendly (Tequila, never failing to bond women since the Aztecs created it). When Cornelio walks in, Deb tells Bertha the gossip about him being a cornudo, while heartbroken Cornelio tells Salvador the truth about the paternity scandal.

Hearing the news Deb asks for some music and goes to sit with Cornelio. She hates Pedro, too, she could be an ally to him… she offers, while pouring another glass. Her daughter might be a Del Monte, but she was thrown out, they are all desgraciados, starting with Simon, they even turned his father, Modesto, against him.

Alone with Sara, Bea is now sorry she spilled the beans to Pedro about Tadeo in the first place. She is afraid of Pedro, he is evil and feels sorry for Cornelio.

Juan and Simon fill Mateo in about what happened at Bea’s house. Simon thinks Cornelio could become dangerous, Juan agrees, especially since he threatened the entire family. The brothers also worry about Modesto’s reaction when he finds out the truth.

Juan and Sara meet outside the house. He wants to smooch, tell everyone about their relationship, she is afraid of the fighting that is sure to result from confessing. They kiss just as Pedro arrives. He confronts them about their relationship and they admit they love each other. What will Julieta say, Pedro asks? Rosa was right after all. Neither Sara nor Juan seem to be bothered by their previous denial, so Pedro says he doesn’t care they are dating, he's actually glad for them, but won’t Simon and Mateo consider Juan a traitor?

Rosa and Prospi arrive at the in-laws – hehe. Rosa offends the entire Cruz family, while Adela defends them. Rosa tries to drag Jessica out, Prospi barely protesting. Bryan says he and Jess are married and they are in love, but Rosa won’t hear reason.

Now inside the house, Pedro calls for his brothers, pretending to be happy and sarcastically telling his siblings that their leader has some big news. Juan takes Sara’s hand and says that they are in love. Both Mateo and Simon strongly disagree, Lucas is disappointed because Sara lied to him about being interested in Juan. Sara defends it by saying love is unexpected and it can’t be helped. Simon accuses her of trying to use Juan just like Deb did with Severiano. Juan asks for their support, so Lucas just leaves, without adding another word.

Deb is still working on Cornelio, suggesting he take Tadeo away – the boy has his last name, he can take him far away, where nobody can ever find them. He is the only one who can put Pedro in his place, make him pay for everything.

Simon accuses Juan of betraying them, since Sara is their enemy. Mateo asks what will Juli say? Sara denies any involvement in breaking up Juan and Juli, Juan insists he stopped loving his ex a long time ago. And neither of them cares about all the obstacles they will have to move past to be together. Simon can’t understand this sudden love, asks Juan to break it off with Sara, Pedro asks if they plan to marry in the same church the wedding with Juli was supposed to take place and Mateo accuses Sara of having destroyed their family.

Finally putting his big boy pants on, Juan calls them all out on their huge hypocrisy: Pedro lied about Tadeo, Mateo about Julieta and they all told him to allow them to live their own lives. So now it’s his turn to tell them to butt out! OK?

Rosa takes Jess through a stroll of the house: does she plan to invite her friends to this place? Eat tamales and frijoles from paper plates, with no cutlery and drink from plastic cups? Gotta say that as much as I dislike Rosa, this is a conversation that needs to be had, since Jessica obviously didn’t give any of this any thought, but now, as her mother points out all the things that she will have to get accustomed to, Jess seems to listen. There is even a leak in the house, and Augustin urges Bryan to fix the roof before there is another flooding. Jess gets scared about this, Brandon protests about sleeping on a wet armchair in the living room… it all becomes a mess.

Adela stops the quarrelling by telling Jess they are poor, but they work hard, it is what it is. Jess says she only cares about Bryan’s love, Rosa says love will go out the window when she realizes there is no money. Prospi puts his foot down, Jess is of legal age, she needs to decide if she leaves or if she stays. And of course she says she’s staying put, and Prospi actually looks proud.

Cornelio is still drinking, alone, when Modesto walks in. He tells his brother he doesn’t feel too good, he had to get out of the house because of some awful rumor that he heard. But he has to get back home soon, prepare dinner. Bertha sees him and invites him to have a drink together, but Modesto faints.

Now in Severiano’s study, Juan&Sara are still trying to explain their relationship. Sara accepts defeat when it comes to her relationship with the brothers, but she will fight for Juan. The others realize their protesting is in vain and Pedro sarcastically claps for the new couple: isn’t love so beautiful?

Later that night Brandon is still singing his sad music, he has a heart to heart with Abuelo Augusto who invites him to share the room. Love is like this, Augie says, you should understand Bryan since you’re also in love with Dulce.

Modesto feels better and wants to go back to the ranch, Cornelio is even more upset with the Del Montes. Bertha tells Cornelio the other day he felt bad, too, they both decide to take him home together.

Now alone, Juan and Sara realize they have a big fight in front of them. Everyone will say that Rosa was right, Sara realizes, but Juan doesn’t care – his brothers and everyone else will end up accepting them. Their love is not to blame, their love is blessed. All they have to do is be happy. Love and kisses.

Sara says she feels uncomfortable in the house, is worried about Juli and Deb’s reactions when they find out, but Juan promises to be together through all this. He invites her out for dinner.

At home, Julieta remembers Juan confronting her about Mateo, then her last fight with Mateo. She grabs her phone and thinks about calling Juan, but then calls Mateo instead, very briefly. He gets the missed call and calls her back, she says it was probably a mistake and tries to hang up. He’d like to see her, like friends, he won’t even tell her that he loves her, he promises!

Dante and Deb are out in a fancy restaurant. He’s proud of her for making Mateo drink and therefor being thrown out of the house, because her staying there was making things too dangerous. He had to listen to all of stupid Juan’s insults and defend Pedro, Deb had to listen to Sara’s accusations about Severiano paying her child support, they are both sacrificing so much to get that Del Monte money. Dante reassures her about the payments, they have all the proof they need to convince Sara Deb wasn’t lying about child support. And now Modesto is on their hit list, too.

Alone in his room, Pedro is playing with his rifle, while fuming about what happened. He can’t understand why he’s feeling so bad about this. Lucas arrives asking why Pedro allowed Juan to be with Sara. Pedro says they have to be careful with Sara, who has managed to change their brother too much. Lucas doesn’t understand why Pedro would badmouth Sara, which he pretends to like, Pedro just asks him to get out if his room, since he’s obviously still a child. What a wasted opportunity to get close to your brother, Pedro... you complain you're not the leader, but when you can act like the big brother that you are, too, you act like a moron.

Simon comes back to Bea’s house and Paloma answers. He hugs her tight, says he needs her and explains how Juan and Sara are tarnishing his mother’s memory by being together. He gets down on the floor, on the verge of crying, saying he can’t deal with hiding this anymore. He killed his father. Paloma thinks he only means he was there, he asks for her hugs, he needs her so much.

Deb explains she needs to know who are the bio parents of all the boys, especially Simon. They might have the Del Monte name, but they all come from miserable backgrounds. Dante says they need to find a way to get the adoption papers and mentions Juan and Pedro’s origins who are very bad. Their plotting is interrupted by the arrival of Mateo and Julieta, who don’t see them.

Juli tells Mateo she cares about him very much, that’s why she agreed to go out with him now that she’s no longer dating Juan. As Deb and Dante eavesdrop, Mateo tells Juli that Juan and Sara have been lying to them all along. Just in time for the two culprits to walk in, smiling and holding hands. Everyone stares dramatically for a moment, Juan and Sara lose some of the smile, Juli seems to have figured out everything and Deb and Dante are practically salivating at the entire scene (not more than the Patio gang).

Mateo calls them shameless, Juan tells Julieta he is dating Sara (this is news for Deb, too), she says she was right then, Sara defends the relationship, they won’t hide their feelings. But Juli piles on, Sara even went to her house to tell her nothing was going on between them and Juan accused her of being jealous. Mateo thinks they’re not worth it, but I agree that this is something Julieta has to say, especially since she is actually right – Juan would have married her without a problem and been leading a meh life without a care in the world if it hadn’t been for Sara’s arrival.

Juan says he can go out with Sara just like she is going out with Mateo. Sara wants to leave. Julieta touches Sara, who brushes her off and leaves. Julieta assures Juan that she didn’t want to harm Sara, she’d never try that again and also tells him and Mateo she understands their relationship because she knows how it feels to be crazy in love (Julieta playing the long game here). Mateo is shocked, especially when Juli adds that she will have to learn to accept them together. Juan is surprised by her reaction, Juli urges him to go after Sara. Deb and Dante seem disappointed there was no bigger scene.

Simon tells Paloma he adored his father, but he brought Sara to their lives. He asks for a hug, remembers how his mama Catalina used to comfort him – she doesn’t deserve this. Paloma would like to know why he’s suffering more than his brothers. Simon remembers a conversation he heard between his parents: Catalina is worried Severiano plans to leave her (Deb told her so), but he tells her she is his wife and they have a family together, he would never divorce her. He suggest they take some rest, speak in the morning when they are both calmer, but Catalina can’t even think about sleeping next to him – what for? The boys need to find out the whole truth, Simon is already aware. Back to the present, Simon tells Paloma he always knew they had a sister.

Bertha drags Modesto home, they arrive in a dark kitchen. She is still feeling a bit dizzy after all that Tequila drinking. She asks about Cornelio stopping at the door, Modesto says it’s a family matter. She wants to leave, Modesto grabs her hand briefly, then she leaves. Pedro walks in, looking on the verge of a breakdown.

Mateo asks an explanation about her reaction, but Juli says she won’t give them the satisfaction of creating a scene. Deb and Dante come say hello, Mateo wonders about their friendship, they exchange barbs.

Juan and Sara are in town, now talking about Julieta; Juan believed her, thinks she’s changing, but Sara is doubtful. He smiles and hugs her, but Sara is still unhappy. Breaking these two up will be soooo easy.

Gracias, Adriana.

Every day in every way I hate Deborah more and more. She is playing both sides against the middle and sooner or later she will be found out.

Modesto doesn't deserve the stress of his situation. The man needs a long vacation but is unlikely to want to take it now. I would love to see Berta set everyone straight in that household.

Prospero is now in a similar situation but there is a chance that he will see
Deborah's true colors before she does irreparable damage. I know most of you think he deserves any grief he gets because he's committing adultery but considering he is married to a shrew it's understandable. He is handling the Jessica situation appropriately while Rosa is making a fool of herself in front of the very people she does not respect.

Adele's point about her house being full of love is important. That is the driver of wanting to make life better so rather than freak out about a leak in the roof, they fix it and then get on with the next task. All things that Rosa thinks she is too bloody good to do. I'll bet she doesn't even cook.

I was about to type that I didn't know why Deborah wants the deets on the adoptions of the boys but something came to me in the process: If she or Dante could prove that the adoptions were illegal, does that invalidate Severiano's will? If any of the DNA donors are still alive Dante could try to get them to say that the adoptions were illegal or that they were threatened or bribed, which could theoretically invalidate any or all of the adoptions. She probably thinks that all of his estate would then belong to Sara, whom she would probably either kill or put in a manicomio to get her greedy hands on it.

But I think Dante is playing the longer game and might try to get it himself and ghost her.

More later.

Thank you, Adriana, for another great recap of a meh episode for me at least.

They should have called this novela “Losers’ Circle” with all of the obnoxious men and a couple of conniving women.

My favorite scenes were any with Deb spinning her various webs. I laughed so hard as she watched the exchange between Juan and Juli and company at the restaurant as if she were watching a show of some kind. She surely is doing Dante’s bidding and not missing a beat. Hey, after a few tequilas, she was still able to take advantage of the situation to further
poison crazy Cornelio’s mind now to steal Tadeo away.

My only other comment, could they please have some character punch Simón hard enough in the mouth to shut him up and knock out a few teeth so he remembers the incident? His constant venom has no excuse or justification no matter what the flashbacks show. As somebody said last week: run, Paloma, run.

That being said, I cannot wait until tonight!

Great recap, Adriana!

I love the title and my favourite quote was: "Tequila, never failing to bond women since the Aztecs created it." Lol!

I had completely forgotten about the whole Deb-Dante plot. How on earth did I forget about that? Brain fog is a curse.

"I know most of you think he deserves any grief he gets because he's committing adultery but considering he is married to a shrew it's understandable." I mean, can't he just divorce her or something? Worried about the kids isn't a reason, their kids are adults. From what we know so far, there isn't a reason that's holding him from doing so, unless there's something else going on that we don't know about.

"If she or Dante could prove that the adoptions were illegal, does that invalidate Severiano's will?" I don't know, maybe. The law is complicated, so probably?

Maybe more later.

Urban, I think Deb's plan is exactly what you said: she wants to find out who the bio parents were in order to either use them or invalidate the will. I guess she will be the one to dig up information about Juan and Pedro's mom and bring her back into the picture.
I think Rosa was making a very valid point with Jessica, the problem is the way she speaks with her, commanding and insulting everyone around her. A good mother would have sat her down and explained what she had to give up if she wanted to change her social standing. And of course they would have never needed to elope if they would have had the parents' support.

Urban, ITA with your evaluation of Dante. It would not surprise me if Deb did not figure in his future once he gets his hands on the inheritance. He treats her like a lackey now.

Jarifa, I love everything about Deb, too, and her smirks while others are fighting or some new secret is discovered are more entertaining than the actual secret.
I find Simon pityfull, with his constant screaming followed by bawling about hos misery... what was that hug from Paloma, anyway? Normal people hug front to front, she was hugging him like he h1d just escaped from the insane asylum (which is a bit accurate ,seeing where he lives).

Weirdo, I think Prospi still loves Rosa, but her behavior is such a turn off, the guy would be better off alone.

Adriana, your observation and comment about the legendary “side hug” made me laugh. You are right.

I agree that Prospero would be better off alone. The problem is that while he knows that his daughters are adults Rosa is determined to see them as children, probably because of her own issues about aging in addition to her sick need to control them. Until all three of them are out of the house and doing reasonably well he is the buffer between them and Rosa.

The photo of Juan and Pedro's egg donor was very unclear, but I think she will ultimately show up. Will she try to blackmail them for money? Since she was a prostitute it's likely that they had two different sperm donors so are they still alive and in the area?*

Mateo's DNA donors were alcoholics (I think somebody said both of them were) so they are either dead or dying and might demand liver transplants.

All we know about Lucas was that Severiano and Catalina got him as a baby. Was some unfortunate teen girl raped and impregnated?

WE know nothing at all about Simon's DNA donors or how old he was when he joined this family. I'm guessing he was fairly young because he has never spoken of them.

*The two little boys who play the children look like full brothers and both resemble the adult Pedro. Were the producers unable to find one who looked more like the adult version of Juan or is there yet another secret to be discovered?

Adriana, I eagerly drank in every single marvelous word. Sensational start to finish. Another excellent title.

“(Tequila, never failing to bond women since the Aztecs created it)” is so true! I can attest to the veracity of this from days long since passed. Just great.

There was nothing alluring about Pedro last night. Jealousy gripped him forcing Juan and Sara to reveal their relationship smiling and smirking all the while. Yikes even Lucas walked out as the three bad bros glared judgmentally, arms tightly crossed.

Loved “Finally putting his big boy pants on, Juan calls them all out on their huge hypocrisy”. While their love didn’t exactly ride in like a tsunami, Juan and Sara seem steadfast as none of the bros came up with any reason to contest their love other than their usual resentment and bitterness. And I did think Juan and Sara’s kisses were much hotter last night. “All they have to do is be happy”. Sigh.

Hit hard by love’s thunderbolt, reality is striking Jessica just as hard. There was a sense of apprehension from Jessica at the plain fare (and actually having to prepare it) and the leaking roof. Rosa in her ridiculous fur collar didn’t help. As you noted Adriana, any valid reasoning she might have had to offer is tainted by “…the way she speaks with her, commanding and insulting everyone around her”.

“Deb and Dante are practically salivating at the entire scene (not more than the Patio gang)”. Of course, all three couples show up at the same restaurant at the same time. Of course, Deb and Dante (clearly seated at the other end of the restaurant) hear every word. Of course, Juli turns the situation to her advantage although her clenched fist belied her words.

“Sara says she feels uncomfortable in the house”. Well, at least Sara’s not prone to exaggeration.

I am also very worried for Modesto. I am hoping he might have Berta by his side.

Berta having fun, drinking and humming to herself inhaling peanuts was great. Deb, the spider quietly crawled off to tantalize another tasty morsel to add to her web. But I give her begrudging credit. “Hey, after a few tequilas, she was still able to take advantage of the situation to further poison crazy Cornelio’s mind now to steal Tadeo away” was perfect Jarifa. Deb’s mind is in constant, fevered overdrive.

Urban, excellent point about the boys’ adoptions being illegal. Sev and Catalina clearly took Juan and Pedro from their squalid home and without any paperwork I am assuming. I don’t know why Deb is so hot to look at Simon’s situation but I’m sure she has some sordid reason.

“Brain fog is a curse” was fabulous and had me laughing out loud Weirdo. I suffer from that daily.

Adriana, this was fantastic. Thank you, thank you!

Diana

Simon is the most outspoken of the brothers about Deborah's true character. He offends us because he tars Sara with the same brush.

Adriana- great recap. Thank you! The snark, the title, the whole read was most enjoyable.

Is there just the one nice restaurant in that town that everybody ended up at, last night? Reminds me of "the only hospital in Mexico City" type telenovela scenes.

Deb definitely enjoyed watching the show there, as Pedro enjoyed watching the show at home.

And another Bingo square was marked off with " No me Toques!"

Jarifa - another Bingo question: If the square says "Que haces aqui?" can "Que hacen aqui?" count?
Just asking. I've never had a telenovela with so many close questions.

doris, I say why not? 🥳

doris, I also think it counts. Have we had any bingos yet?

(The last question was for both doris and Jarifa.)

Gracias, Adriana. Super recap. Love the details, love the snark. Love your nailing Pedro: Pedro just asks him to get out if his room, since he’s obviously still a child. What a wasted opportunity to get close to your brother, Pedro... you complain you're not the leader, but when you can act like the big brother that you are, too, you act like a moron.

Lucas's reaction surprised me. I expected him to be okay with Juan and Sara since he likes Sara. Go figure. None of the brother is in a position to judge Juan and Sara.

Simon is the brother most in Deb's face and onto her crap. Apart from getting the brother's inheritance, I Deb would love especially to destroy Simon emotionally, like showing his bio-parents were criminals, psychos, or something.

With these last two episodes, Paloma has discovered her Prince Charming has some real demons. This is the couple that intrigues me. What will Paloma do?

Poor Adela. She's got another mouth to feed and now has to get home visits from Rosa.

Yep, Deb was enjoying the potential fireworks at the restaurant as much as Viewerville. She always fun to watch, but what a lousy mother.

Thanks, Adriana, for the great recap. I’m also worried about Modesto. His son is nothing to be proud of but he loves his grandson. I hate to see him find out he’s not really the grandfather. Also wondering if there’s something really wrong with his health.

I was surprised Deb and Dante approached Mateo and Juli. I think Juan would catch on that something is going on but I don’t think Mateo will tell him.

I feel like Sara and Juan should have kept their relationship a secret for a couple of months. She doesn’t have any brother on her side.

I’m hoping Pedro payed for a false DNA result. Since that happens often. I was going to say he only cares for himself but I don’t think he likes himself.

Liz

Cher Adriana, merci for yet another snappy recap . You captured every devilish detail as the drinks and toxic masculinity flowed and inhibitions lowered . I also enjoyed all the great comments.

The actress playing Deb seems to be having a fun time portraying this greedy, grasping, scheming femme fatale . Those big , beautiful eyes absolutely sparkle with her constant bad intentions . However, having viewed many, many telenovelas, we know that karma is eventually coming , and I am quite sure that Deb will be accompanying Dante to the Inferno baring his name . I taught with an AP English teacher whose students placed a sign over her classroom door with a line from Dante's Inferno : " Abandon hope all ye who enter here." I pass this thougbt along to Dante and Deb . I hope Pedro reforms and doesn't suffer the same fate.

P.s. I bought three small avocados for $5.00 against my better judgement. Then, I learned how they are eaten in the Phillipines...with ice and condensed milk!!! I'll put mine in salads with cherry tomatoes and cucumbers and a bit of dressing .

Weirdo, no bingos yet and some dire things would need to happen for me to bingo. I don’t have much hope but am still playing.

OT: Susanlynn, I am buying individual portioned guac these days. I have had to throw one too many avocados that have gotten pushed to the back of the refrig lately . This morning, I visited the legendary Wienermobile and got a wiener whistle! Hot dogs for dinner?

"Poor Adela. She's got another mouth to feed and now has to get home visits from Rosa" had me smiling away Niecie.

Simon was indeed dark this episode. I wonder if Paloma has seen this side of him? I'm thinking she's seen glimpses but not in its entirety. He does seem to love her though. Perhaps his only redeeming quality.

Diana

It will be interesting to see what the writers have up their sleeves regarding Modesto's health. Last night he acted like he was dink but I don't think that was it. He had that one spell before on the street when Berta encountered him.

Lucas's reaction to Juan+Sara was odd. He has not previously shown any antagonism that I can remember.

No BINGO yet but it's getting close. I've never before had so many hits with a telenovela.

My favorite scene was Modesto and Berta trying to help each other as they reeled into the kitchen. Modesto is so gallant . He was carrying Berta's umbrella and purse.

I am tired of whiny, weepy Simon . Maybe he should take off the turtlenecks . I now fast forward any scenes with him . Likewise, those with scowling Juli and begging Mateo. ugh.

Lucas's reaction to Juan and Sara was not so much about the relationship itself, as it was about the fact that Sara "lied" to him. She had told him, in front of their father's ashes, that she was absolutely, positively not interested in Juan. Lucas believed her and was glad because he knew it would cause havoc in the family. At the time, though, Sara wasn't "in love" with Juan so she wasn't lying (well, maybe just to herself). If those two had used their brains and kept that info to themselves for a while, she could have gradually brought Lucas around to accepting it, IMO.

Anonymous, whoever you are, ITA about Lucas. I, too, think that it's no the relationship itself but the "lying".

Weirdo - yes, that makes sense to me now. Lucas thought Sara had lied to him and he never witnessed their growing attraction.

All I need on my Telenovela BINGO Card #2 is 'hospitalization of galan' and I'll have a Bingo. Cards #8 & 9 are not doing as well. ~suspiro~ There are many episodes left to go ...

Adriana: Howdy from the Alamo City. You're doing an amazing & excellent job of one of the best recaps ever from last night's episode. Although I would prefer seeing some pictures in some of the recaps of this Telenovela.

UA: 100% agree with you about Gold-Digger Debbie playing ALL sides for her own money-grubbing ways including looting what's left of the del Monte fortune, etc.,

Weirdo: Lucas needs to GET OVER himself about being "lied to" regarding Juan & Goldie Locks Evita.

I mean it was so freaking obvious both Juan & Goldie Locks Evita (I meant to say Sara) were going to be endgame based on the eye-googling, etc.,
