La herencia #26, Friday 08/19/22 "She's alive! Aliiive!"

Sara wants Pedro to go with her to the congress. She tells Juan she doesn’t feel like going with him after the way he spoke to her in front of Julieta. Juan is hurt she can’t understand how important the company is for him. He is sorry for the way he behaved, but he won’t stop asking for irreproachable behavior at work (how sexy! Ugh…). Sara is not impressed.

Paloma fights with Salvador about his lies concerning her mother’s death. Modesto thinks he should tell Paloma the truth! Salvador pulls out the briefcase that contains everything she has to know about her mother – a whole bunch of letters Irma sent her ever since she left. Paloma opens a letter and as she starts reading she realizes her father knows it by heart. Her mom apologizes for her past, she only left because she felt very ashamed after her affair with Severiano. But she loves her and she always thinks of her. Then Salvador adds that her mom is alive and Paloma starts sobbing. She accuses him of being selfish, not being man enough to face it all.

The Millan have money problems! Rosa realizes it when she tries to make an online payment. She doesn’t understand what could be the problem, Deb calls it poverty. Hehe!

Sara remembers her last confrontation with Juan and how Pedro said he liked her and now thinks her decision to go with Pedro at the congress was a mistake that will hurt Juan. I say, who cares?

Alondra visits Jess and tells her Don Augustin was fired by Pedro. When she adds that Bryan might lose his job, too, Jess is afraid he won’t earn the money he needs to buy her a mansion. Besides, she realized she’s useless, everyone in the Cruz family is nice, but she feels horrible. Alondra szys she wouldn’t have a problem living in a modest home if she was surrounded by a loving family. When Deb is mentioned Jess lets it spill that she and Prospi are lovers. Alondra starts to cry, refuses to believe it, but Jess says she will prove it. They decide they have to throw Deb out. And they can’t tell Prospi Alondra knows, too, they have to catch him off guard. Their family is definitely in shambles. On the plus side Alondra and Lucas are novios… Yey!  Jess suggest to keep it hidden, Rosa might destroy them with her meddling.

Pedro thanks Sara for choosing him to go with her at the congress. Then he starts playing on Sara’s sympathy, by saying he feels bad for Cornelio, but he never loved Bea or chose to have a child. He also adds that his real mother rejected him as a child (flashback of the nasty woman beating Juan and Pedro)…at the same time Juan is remembering the same scene, as Julieta comes in, asking about the toys he has on his desk. He waives her off.

Back to Pedro and Sara, he wipes away a tear, thanks Sara for listening to him. She is very comforting, but pushes him away when he touches her face and says she has some work to do in accounting. What, what? Pedro gets restless.

Mateo asks Modesto to come back to the ranch, they all need him. But the old man can’t, his son almost died because of Pedro. He encourages Mateo to fight his alcoholism. He knows his bio mother left him with Catalina and Severiano to have a better life. And if you want to win Julieta, give up on the booze, maybe that’s why she’s rejecting you, Modesto suggests. Bingo!

Dante reads in Simon's adoption papers that he was found in a basket when he was 10 years old (!!) and went to therapy his entire childhood. Pedro calls him to say that Sara is starting to dig where she shouldn’t. They decide to meet at night.

Paloma and Simon meet in town, she’s screaming hysterically, tells him her mom is alive. Simon, of all people, defends Salvador, saying he surely lied to protect her. The irony is not lost on Paloma, who loves him even more for saying that. Simon loves her, too, she’s the one stabilizing force in his life. They start kissing.

Deb and Dante meet and talk about Juan and Pedro’s origin – kids of a prostitute. They decide they need to find that woman. Their talk is interrupted by a woman we haven’t seen before, but we find out almost immediately she is Irma, Paloma’s mother!! She and Deb go way back, at one time they were rivals for Severino’s affection (even if Deb refuses to accept Irma as any kind of competition for her). Deb asks if Paloma knows she’s back. Irma doesn’t want to fight, she needs help convincing Salvador to allow her to see her daughter. Deb doesn’t think she can help much, but she will try.

Irma reminds Deb that she and Rosa used to be very good friends of Catalina and they both know the type of tricks Deb was capable of to win Severiano, like using a child to trap him. The look Deb and Dante exchange makes me think that something is definitely shady about Sara’s birth, too.

Deb points out Irma could never trap Severino  herslef, but she will try to help her none the less. When the woman leaves, Deb shows her anger to Dante, who suggests that maybe Simon should find out about Irma and deal with her.

At the company Juan and Pedro talk about Mateo drinking again. after Modesto calls them. Sara asks Julieta if this has anything to do with her, Julieta says Sara has as much to do with Mateo’s pain as she does. Pedro takes Sara’s side, Juan puts a stop to the quarrelling and they all leave.  Pedro wants to take Mateo to a clinic, but Juan doesn’t want to keep him away from the family. Sara and Julieta talk about Mateo, too – Sara feels Julieta hurt Mateo the most, Julieta thinks Sara is jealous because Juan always listens to her opinion – long story short, Julieta calls Sara a bastarda, just like her mother, Sara slaps Julieta, demanding respect.

The men see they are fighting, Sara says she will defend herself, Juan asks Julieta to control her actions. Pedro takes Sara’s side again, Juan demands everyone to be professional. But Sara has her limits. She leaves in a huff.

Cornelio wants to talk to Bea, Tadeo overhears him say he’s not his father and starts crying. Cornelio says it’s complicated to explain, but even if they don’t have the same blood, they love one another and that’s all that matters. Tadeo asks Cornelio and Bea to reconcile, Bea asks Cornelio to be alone with her son.

Tadeo asks who his real father is then. Bea say Cornelio is, he raised him and loves him. They will go see a doctor to help him better understand this, but the three of them will always be a family. Tadeo decides to stop keeping secrets, and tells his mom tio Pedro said he was his daddy, which made him feel bad; does this mean he has two daddies?

Don Augustin arrives home, still remembering nasty Pedro firing him, but also a talk he had with Severiano about how important his work has always been. Technology can only do so much, the love and dedications he always showed will never be forgotten. Augustin decides not to give up on work.

Sara is in town, crying while remembering Juan’s hurtful words with Julieta present. But then she decides it’s time to stop feeling sorry for herself, she’s always been able to come up on top on her own. Good for you!

Rosa is on the phone with the bank, complaining about her canceled credit card. Prospi arrives and she whines to him, too. Jess and Alondra come to say their school hasn’t been paid, either. So Prospi declares they are ruined! Rosa can’t understand how that is possible. Prospi says they have been spending too much and the sales haven’t been that great. But Rosa knows that’s not the case, she has access to the boutique’s numbers, too. Alondra says she will pay her own way with her work, but Jess remembers how Prospi had told her he had to lend money to Salvador and says it out loud. Bertha worries about her salary, Rosa gets mad and says she will be in charge of the money from now on. Alondra accuses Prospi of being broke because he’s giving money to his lover!!!

Juan and Pedro arrive at the bar and scold a very drunk Mateo, who makes a scene. Modesto tries to defend him, Julieta also thinks he hasn’t had so much to drink, but Pedro and Juan disagree. Pedro tells Mateo he will have to go to a clinic, but Mateo doesn’t like this. He stands on a table, accusing Juan of stealing his woman. And then Sara, his sister, stole Julieta’s fiancé, too. Pedro and Juan drag Mateo down, while he states that Julieta loves him and only him. Enter Cornelio just in time for Mateo to remember him and say out loud that Pedro stole Cornelio’s woman, too. Julieta calls him a despicable drunk. Can’t argue there!

Sara and Bea talk about their many dramas. Bea and Cornelio are fighting, Sara was afraid someone was going to die, Bea tells her Tadeo now knows the truth.

Sara shares how bad her relationship with Juan is going, he’s different when at work. Bea warns her work could break them up. Sara then adds that Pedro claims to feel something for her and Bea tells her to be careful, Pedro is not what he appears to be. Sara states Pedro is just her brother, Bea warns her to protect her heart.

Now in town, Paloma tells Silmon she still feels very bad. She adds she wants to marry right away and Simon suggests they use the ranch chapel. Irma watches them from farther away and Adela spots her, too.

Simon plans to ask Modesto to help them organize the wedding, even if Paloma wants something small. Paloma is also happy that soon enough she will finish school and start work, Simon reminds her that he also wants a baby real fast (oh, boy!) They hug and Paloma notices a lady who is observing them, who could it be? Irma leaves quickly, Simon doesn’t know her either. They decide to go to the bar, confront Salvador.

Salvador and Modesto talk about Paloma knowing the whole truth. Modesto thinks his brother should go search for Irma, remember the bad life she had with you. Salvador denies this, he only wanted her not to cheat. Modesto gets poetic, Paloma needs to be happy.

Back at the company, Juan and Pedro both agree that Mateo needs to go to a clinic, but Lucas doesn't like the idea. Sara arrives to ask what happened with Mateo, she and Julieta almost get into it again before Juan stops them. He’s afraid of people gossiping about what Mateo said, so Lucas checks social media to see if someone posted something online. Sara and Pedro plan to go prepare for the congress, but Lucas finds an interview of Mr. Henry who basically says that Juan and his lover Sara are two incompetents who have cost him a lot of money and are doing a very bad job managing the company their father left them.

Juan calls Dante, who says this will make them lose their investors. Pedro thinks this is Juan’s fault, Lucas suggest they should make a live explaining their point of view on the situation. Pedro says dad shouldn’t have put Juan in charge, and he decides he is going to take over. Caras impactadas all around.

Great, Adriana. It's all there.

We now know Irma and have seen the face of Juan and Pedro's egg donor. So Irma and Deborah competed for Severiano while being friends with Catalina? That makes both of them so much worse than we already know.

Paloma looks a little younger than Sara, but should we wonder whether Salvador or Severiano is her father? BTW, I don't like the idea of her getting knocked up so soon. That usually stops a career from getting started and puts women at a future disadvantage. Not to mention that Simon has more issues than The New York Times and is in no shape to be a father.

Pedro is right for once: Mateo needs to be in a clinic. What he just did could cause irreparable damage to the family business, especially alongside the nastiness of the minor gringo villain. Pedro is at least partly to blame for the latter.

So now we know that Mateo was given to Catalina by his egg donor. However, how could Simon could have been 10 years old when abandoned in a basket? Could that have been a journal entry that said "10 years ago"?

Casting notes re actors from other ranch-centric novelas:

Quererlo Todo:

Michelle Renaud (Sara) was the heroine
Georgina Pedret (Irma) was Eva, the beleaguered ex-wife of the corrupt mayor (played by Alexis Ayala)
Roberto Blandon (Salvador) was a man who did time for a crime he didn't commit; cousin to Eva
Zoe Itsayana (child version of Sara) was a little girl whose paternity was questioned early and the truth discovered late in the story

La Desalmada:

Daniel Elbittar (Pedro) was Cesar, who helped make things right
Veronica Jaspeado (Berta) was a single female rancher who didn't need men to rescue her
Sergio Basaanez (Dante) was the neighbor to the villain who stole his property

Fuego en la Sangre:

Elizabeth Alvarez (Deborah) was Ximena, youngest daughter in the Elizondo family

La Que No Podia Amar:

Julian Gil (Prospero) was the main villain masquerading as the best friend of the anti-hero

Bonus:

The two little boys who play the child versions of Juan and Pedro are actual brothers off-camera.

Urban, finding out about the mature characters' past and how they connected to one another is almost as interesting as finding out about the boys. Now we know basically all the women were friends with Catalina while sleeping with her husband. We don't have confirmation on Rosa, but going by how she behaves evey time Seve is mentioned and knowing she cheated with Adela's husband, no way Seve would have skipped her.
The man was despicable, I can't stand everyone speaking about him like if he was the second coming or something. And he was not only a womanizer, but a crappy father, too, even managing to destroy the strong bond Juan and Pedro had as kids with his blatant favoritism, manipulating young Simon to keep his dirty secrets, maybe even partially driving Mateo to alcoholism...

I was shocked when Dante mentioned Simon being 10 when he was found, too, but I'm pretty sure that's what he said. This means Simon should have some memories from early childhood. Or maybe the trauma of living with the perfect DelMonte family "cured" that pain, only to replace it with something just as hurtful?

Well, Simon never spoke of his early childhood years in terms of remembering his blood family so "a baby found in a basket" sounded like something out of a fairy tale told to children. Maybe the writers couldn't make up their minds; we've seen lots of that in the past. So...

...if Simon was 10 he probably would have been drugged and dumped in a wicker laundry hamper. We have to wonder who would do such a thing and why. That means that Mateo and Lucas were the only ones who arrived as babies.

It had to have been fairly well-known that the del Monte boys were adopted. How else do you explain the sudden arrival of school-age boys when Catalina's friends had to have known that she could not conceive?

It is definitely possible that Simon's early childhood was horrible and he blocked it out. That would explain his outbursts and possibly coincide with his interest in psychology. I also doubt that Severiano and Catalina knew much about his past because she would have done something to help him. Nothing we've been shown so far says that she was anything but a good mother.

I agree that Severiano's raising of Juan and Pedro was quite faulty, but not particularly unusual. First-time parents can make truly egregious mistakes and encouraging competition is a common one. We don't see Catalina in those scenes so did the boys never say anything about this because it wouldn't have been macho? Since Modesto was around were there arguments about this?

Severiano would have bypassed Rosa. She is annoying and would only have been more so.

Adriana: Your recaps are spicy! Thank you very much for the recap of last night's episode.

My personal thoughts:
1.) Simon was 10 years old when found in a basket ?

2.) Gold-Digger Debbie & Dante the Looter plotting to "take care" of Irma makes me nervous.

3.) Paloma wants to marry Simon ASAP. You're sure about that honey ? He's got some anger issues.

4.) Crazy Pedro plotting a coup d'etat against Juan. What could possibly go wrong ?

5.) Don Agustin gets fired by Crazy Pedro. Something tells me an ugly confrontation is in order soon.

6.) Salvador & Modesto discussing Irma, etc.,

7.) I see Prospero is broke & his family are having problems too especially Buji Rosa with credit card issues.

8.) Lucas & Alondra: Awww. Why do I get the feeling that Buji Rosa will start meddling soon ?

9.) Jackass Julieta spewing evilness & insults at Goldie Locks Sara AGAIN!

10.) FINALLY Goldie Locks Sara slaps the SHIT out of that uppity brat!

11.) Not shocked about the revelations of Juan & Crazy Pedro being the sons of a prostitute.

12.) UA, Doris & Co.,: Paloma still has a beautiful singing voice.

Adriana, thanks. I sure enjoyed your excellent recap this morning along with my coffee and the episode itself.

Yes, that is what Dante said. Simón was ten years old when he was left in a basket at the gate. Dante got a real kick out of that.

The PSA of this novela could easily be the repercussions of child abuse.

I love whenever Jessica calls Débora “la devoradora”: the devourer.

I used to wonder how the cantina kept their clientele with so much drama going on. Guess it is entertainment from the reaction we heard/saw from the customers in this episode.

What a wonderful SLAP!

So much misogyny/machismo going on here getting on my last nerve.

Bea being blamed for breaking up her marriage by Cornelio ONE MORE TIME because of her affair. Maybe the jack *** should not have beat her.

Juan said he doesn’t like violence (he should have stopped there but he didn’t) LET ALONE AMONG WOMEN. Give me a break.

Irma’s situation

NOBODY criticizes Severiano being the womanizer he was. Is it because he was the big employer in town, the employer of last resort or something more insidious like the men actually admiring him and cheering him on in their own heads.

Thanks, Urban, for the ranchero actors info.

Adriana, the title was perfection – the recap - beyond. Your comments are as sharp and insightful as your summary.

I agree that the origins of “non-adopted” children, now adults here are questionable. As you noted “something is definitely shady about Sara’s birth, too”. This may be the one instance Sev was not the father (although potential heirs are popping out all over). I am also uneasy about Paloma’s origins.

I am also shocked as to Simon’s age when he was abandoned. But even more so that he “went to therapy his entire childhood”. Either his therapist was useless or Simon was shattered and the pieces were just not able to be put back again.

The flashback of Juan and Pedro being beaten for playing with a toy was hard to watch. I wonder when this monster “mother” is going to crawl out of the swamp…

Sal not only kept the truth from Paloma but memorized the letters. Irma did not elicit sympathy or liking. Perhaps I’m being hasty. I have a feeling this does not portend for smooth sailing for Pedro and Paloma.

“And if you want to win Julieta, give up on the booze, maybe that’s why she’s rejecting you, Modesto suggests. Bingo!” Dear Modesto, always dispensing sound, sage advice.

I didn’t realize Prospi’s giving Deb money put them on the brink of financial ruin. Let’s see if he has the motivation and will to correct his mistakes. Deb will be so happy she’s ruined more lives.

"I love whenever Jessica calls Débora “la devoradora”: the devourer". Oh ny, that is THE best. Thank you Jarifa, I didn't understand that. Love it...

Urban, thank you for the casting notes! “Severiano would have bypassed Rosa. She is annoying and would only have been more so” had me nodding in vigorous agreement. So true!

Never a dull moment at Sal’s is there? Gossip central. I laughed how the guy at the bar was really getting an eyeful and an earful! Snacks and live entertainment for free!

Adriana, just marvelous. Thank you!!

Diana

Adriana: I see Goldie Locks Sara FINALLY slapped the EXPLETIVE out of Whacky Julieta.

UA: Simon needs to go to Dr. Phil ASAP!

Doris: Prospero giving Gold-Digger Debbie $$$$$$ was STUPID!

Steve Boudreaux

Jessica must have seen Dona Barbara; "la devoradora" was her nickname.

That's another series that doesn't need a remake.

We don't know how much money Deborah has bled him for and who the hell knows how extravagantly Rosa spends what she has access to. They may have to move in with....los Cruz?

Adriana, what a great recap! Thanks a lot.

"So Irma and Deborah competed for Severiano while being friends with Catalina? That makes both of them so much worse than we already know." I completely agree Urban. I also completely agree with this: "BTW, I don't like the idea of her getting knocked up so soon. That usually stops a career from getting started and puts women at a future disadvantage. Not to mention that Simon has more issues than The New York Times and is in no shape to be a father."
Also, thanks for the casting notes.

"Now we know basically all the women were friends with Catalina while sleeping with her husband." Yep, this basis sums it up, Adriana.
Also,
"The man was despicable, I can't stand everyone speaking about him like if he was the second coming or something. And he was not only a womanizer, but a crappy father, too, even managing to destroy the strong bond Juan and Pedro had as kids with his blatant favoritism, manipulating young Simon to keep his dirty secrets, maybe even partially driving Mateo to alcoholism..." IKR? Everyone acts as if he's (Seve's) a saint and it's driving me crazy every time.

"So much misogyny/machismo going on here getting on my last nerve."
And
"Bea being blamed for breaking up her marriage by Cornelio ONE MORE TIME because of her affair. Maybe the jack *** should not have beat her." ITA, Jarifa.

"I am also shocked as to Simon’s age when he was abandoned." Same, Diana. 10 YEARS OLD? I was not expecting that.

Jarifa

Quick Question: Jarifa, how is your username pronounced? Do you pronounce the J the English or the Spanish way? And is the intonation Jarifa?

Thanks, Adriana, that was excellent. I never realize how much I miss or misinterpret until I read what really was said!

I keep picturing a ten year old Simon in one of those wicker laundry baskets! He’d be hanging out on all sides!!

Severiano doesn’t sound like he was any prize. Seems like he had affairs with all his wife’s friends. I wonder why Rosa thinks so highly of Deb. She must know that she slept with her friend’s husband.

Irma seems harmless, she looked happy to see her daughter. But we shall see!

Liz

Weirdo, the J is pronounced the Spanish way with the accent on the second to the last syllable: Ja RI fa. Thanks for asking!

Urban, Clearly, we need more creative writers as well as production companies that are willing to take risks. We don’t need refritos of refritos.

Cher Adriana, Merci for bringing us every wicked , warped detail as our tale moves forward .

Yikes , like everyone else , I am confused as to how Simon was left abandoned in a basket at the age of 10. Makes absolutely no sense . Have the writers ever met a ten year old ?

Wow, Sev really got around . I wonder why Catalina put up with him having affairs with her friends? Why have the boys put him up on a pedestal ? Was Simon the only one who knew how he was cheating over and over again with their mother?

Well, one missing person who is a piece of the puzzle has arrived in town ....Irma, another paramour of Super stud Sev. Geez. Who will be the next missing person to show up.

Jess is starting to see what marriage is really all about ....supporting and taking care of each other and building a life together. She was too young and immature to realize what love and marriage really are or that most people have to work to support themselves . She is waking up to real life.

Uh oh ...Deb seems to have bled Prospi dry ....next !!! ( Shout out to Dr. Carlos )

OT...judy....miss you...come back to us .

I am not about to throw Severiano or Catalina under the bus as parents, since it looks that most of their adopted sons arrived already damaged by their previous experiences with/without their birth parents as well as having genetic predispositions. It was surprising that Simón had been in treatment for years and is still as unstable as he is. As for him arriving in a basket, was he starved, beaten, drugged, sexually abused?

All of those are possibilities. Lucas seems to be the only one who escaped damage. Makes me wonder who his parents are. He could still be a "lost prince", kidnapped in infancy, maybe another rich man's affair child. Modesto says he knew his mother, so that info will be revealed eventually.

I don't think that Severiano and Catalina were bad parents on the whole. But some wounds don't heal despite all the meds in the world.

I agree that Seve and Cata were not bad parents completely, but I do think some of their choices were wrong. Of course as parents we try to do our best and that's probably what they were doing, too. And, compared to the rest of the parents in this tale, they were actually decent. Except for Sara, who was actually abandoned. I wonder what reason Seve had to stop contact with her, seeing how involved he was in his other kids' lives..
Maybe Lucas being the only one adopted as a baby is proof that nurture is more important than nature and since he only had the experience of having good parents, he is the most centered one.

So... We are waiting for more bio mothers to arrive...Juan and Pedro's , Mateo's, and Lucas's . How will they complicate this story ? Are we waiting for any bio fathers , or are we thinking these adopted boys are all actually Sev's bio sons!? That would be bizarre. He was so randy and roving....who knows ?

Will we find out anything about Modesto's wife ? Did she call for Sev's charms , too, since she was at the ranch?

I am also curious about what happened between Rosa and Adela's husband . Is he still alive ? Might he come back to town?

This tale could become a lot more tangled.

Pedro is horrible , but my heart still breaks for him when he flashes back to his awful mother abusing and neglecting him and Juan. I guess he is so damaged and traumatized that he has turned as cruel and cold to others as she was to him . I hate to think what it will do to Pedro and Juan if she shows up in town . Sara is the only person Pedro shows his vulnerability to , and she always reacts with empathy and kindness. I get a big kick out of Pedro giving his side Eye look . You can see the wheels in his head turning . I

Jarifa, thanks for answering. That's how I imagined it to be, it sounded right. Thanks again!

As for the boys being Sev's kids, I don't really think so, because then Sara and Juan would be half-siblings. Except if Sara isn't Sev's kid after all.. We can build an accurate family tree only after the series ends, lol.

That's what I love about this novela. The main couple is meh, but the stories are such a tangled mess, so many misteries and secrets, all these respectable people who cheated, lied and manipulated, causing so much damage to their kids.... All the younger generation is hurt by their parents' actions, it's a good lesson on what not to do as a parent if you want to give your child a fighting chance to be a "normal" adult.

Urban, some people are not fixable.

Very true.

"the stories are such a tangled mess, so many misteries and secrets, all these respectable people who cheated, lied and manipulated, causing so much damage to their kids.."

Every night I wonder why I am so enjoying this show that boasts loving, sweet people who can be counted on one hand. You explained that really well Adriana. Almost every birth origin is being called into question. The only caring parents we've seen here is Adela, Modesto (who may not even be a father) and Prospi (to some extent).

Every day brings new sorry and another mystery. A puzzle with many missing pieces.

And I agree with you Jarifa, not everyone can be redeemed. I see little possbility of that for many here.

Diana

Thanks for the recap Adriana.

So much to get my head around but the most ridiculous is 10 year old (Simon) left in a basket outside the hacienda! Shades of Exodus and Moses being left in a reed covered basket at the edge of the Nile. A long cautionary tale of babies being abandoned and left with the rich...

Since I don't understand the dialogue, I am trying to sort out Simon's arrival at the hacienda. Did Modesto say that Simon was left at the hacienda as a baby in a basket ? Did Dante say he was left at the hacienda as a ten year old in a basket ? Was he reading from the papers he found in the office ? If so, was he being facetious ? So odd.

On another note, I just watched this episode . Irma was watching Simon and Paloma and looking interested and sad . She was dressed conservatively . Did she abandon Simon at the hacienda? if he was ten he should remember her .

What is your take on the meeting between Deb, Dante, and Irma? Did they all know each other back in the day?

Also, where did Sev find the time to run the ranch with all his affairs ? Did he adopt all his love children ? If so, did Catalina know they were his via his amantes? Catalina had awful friends . Lots of questions .

Your recap is utterly entertaining as always, Adriana! :)

I haven't watched the episode, I am actually multiple days behind but I am back home now and I will be able to catch up. I left a longer comment on the Univison page but I am posting here to say hello to the patio, I've been reading the recaps and comments whenever I was able to and it looks like you all are having great fun with this one! :) I am not ready yet to come back to recapping but I hope I can join you all on the patio and share comments at the very least.

I won't rewrite everything I wrote on the other page - but I will share that I lost my mother a couple weeks ago. The doctors thought she would have between 1-2 months but she passed very quickly after I got to California. She was surrounded by all her kids and her mother and she passed peacefully so that is a blessing.

Anyway, I don't want to bring down the page but I know many of you have asked and may wonder so I wanted to let you know. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and support.

Darcy, sending you love and hugs.

I posted under the Primetime heading. You have been very much missed.

Courage amiga...and strength.

Diana

OT

Hey, Darcy. I also posted under the Primetime heading.

Sorry for your loss...

OT

Darcy, I've been thinking of you so much these last few weeks, I'm so happy to "see you" online again.
It's hard for me to find the right words to say to you, as I was never good at expressing my feelings really well, but others have written words of encouragement that I hope will give you some comfort in the following months.
The closest I've ever come to such a deep loss was my grandmother's death when I was a teen. We were all in pain, but to see how deeply my dad was mourning the loss of his mother was something that got stuck in my head - for a while there he became a shell of his former self. It took a lot of time and the love of everyone surrounding him to make him realize he had to pull through...
Come back on the Patio whenever you're ready, the siliness around here can hopefully be a good distraction. Jarifa and I are keeping your spot on the recapping team warm and these crazy DelMonte galans are not yet done with their shenanigans.

Adriana - Thank you for your recap! And the LOL title!

Hubby and I took a quick weekend trip to see friends we have not seen since before the pandemic and I have not watched this yet. Maybe later today...

If Simón showed up at ten years of age (and that kid in the flashback looked more like 7 or 8 years old to me) IIRC, he should ...should! ... have memory of what his bio-mom looks like. Right?

Irma can't be Simon's mother or she would go ballistic at seeing him with Paloma. Incest is never looked upon kindly in telenovelas, nor permitted IIRC. I think it's a telenovela rule.

"Adolorido" translates to pain, ache, hurt, sore(like in a muscle). Interesting name for a bar, and appropriately named in this case. Is that a Mexican thing? No doubt much of Sal's business comes from locals looking for the free daily show, brought to you by los Del Monte & Co.

I have been wondering if Dante really is Sara's bio-dad, and Deb seduced Seve in an opportunistic move to make him think she is his. Was there ever a DNA test done that Deb & Dante didn't have their hands on?

Doris, I've been thinking about that as well. If we're right Sara will need a shrink at the end of this tale.

Deb and Dante want to be the puppetmasters. Evidently Sev never realized that Dante was not his loyal friend and lawyer. Of the brothers, only Pedro knows that Dante is a devil. Three of the brothers despise Deb , but they have no idea how she is working with Dante to steal their herencia . None of the brothers suspect that Pedro is working against them with Dante. Wow. These guys have to stop bickering and wake up to the evil around them .

Deb loves to stir the pot and cause chaos . She seems to get giddy playing with other people's lives.

OT

Darcy, I left a message on the Prime page. Sending prayers.

Adriana, thanks for a fun break reading your recap..

What impeccable timing Irma has to return to town just as Sal is forced to spill the beans to Paloma. Irma seems like a nice lady who is rightfully repentant.

NOBODY criticizes Severiano being the womanizer he was. Is it because he was the big employer in town, the employer of last resort or something more insidious like the men actually admiring him and cheering him on in their own heads.

Jarifa, I go with the men actually admiring him. This seems to be universal across cultures in my view. I know good men who are faithful to their wives who get a twinkle in their eye about the friend who is a chick magnet. I hate giving Deb a compliment, but at least she wasn't married, unlike Irma and Rosa.

Awhile back when Modesto spoke of Simon left in a basket at the front door, Modesto didn't have the look of aghast that one would have at a 10-year-old in a basket, drugged or badly injured (why else would a 10 year old stay in a basket?). So, at first, I thought the Dante actor flubbed his lines and meant to say 10 months old. But when he started laughing about it, I knew better.

Sev and Catalina adopted older kids who were troubled, except for Lucas it seems. Even though all the kids grew up to be a mess in some way, they're still better off than they would've been.

I'm wondering if Prospero's got something up his sleeve. He didn't seemed devastated to be broke.

Normally, I'd say none of the Del Monte boys are Sev's bio-kids, but -- ick! -- I've seen one Mexican TN where lovers turned out, unknowingly, to be siblings. I sure hope this doesn't happen to Paloma and Simon. I foresee many basket jokes rolling off Deb's tongue.

OT:

Darcy: My deepest condolences to you & your family.

How is it possible that a 10-year old baby could fit into a laundry basket? I have big laundry baskets, and they probably wouldn't even handle a baby over 6 months old.

And why did Simon need therapy for years afterwards? I would have thought Simon needed therapy after learning about Deb and his father and having to carry that secret, but that was when he was a little bit older. Seems like Pedro needed it more.

For a family that owns a textile boutique, which by the way sells really pretty fabrics and textile items—from pillows to ponchos—they have such a super horrendously decorated house!!!!

Right off the bat these are the first patterns I noticed:

polka dots
stripes
florals
landscapes
abstracts
birds
animals
porcelain dolls
Tiffany styles, lamps and stained glass
folkloric prints
plaids
etc.

And none of it has rhyme nor reason. One can perfectly match different patterns—but within the same or complementary color group. IMO.

If you can think of anymore, please add to my list, and I will definitely make sure to look out for it

Definitely loving Julian Gil!!
