La Herencia #27 Monday, 08/22/22 Cancel culture has reached the pueblos

Busy day today, so this is a quick one. A lot of screaming and fighting (again), if I missed something, feel free to add in the comments.

Pedro wants to take over as President. Juan is surprised his brother would hold such a grudge, Lucas and Sara think they should focus on solving the problems they have now. People are starting to call Juan, so he decides to have a conference to make an official statement.

Bryan is searching for Jess and his mom, but Don Augie has no clue where they are… Geez, Bryan's also hungry, maybe he should prepare his own food, right? He's afraid Jess will never get used to their life.

Salvador is still whining about bad Irma, even as Modesto asks him to forget about it. Adela arrives with bad news: Irma is back! Caray! Salvador only hopes that woman won’t cause any more pain. Adela realisez Paloma knows her mom is alive and encourages Sal: Paloma is a smart girl, she’ll understand why he had to lie.

Deb is walking around town, minding her business (shocking, right?), when Amado asks to talk to her of all people – he knows she helped Cornelio, so now he needs her help, too. One of the Del Monte brothers is his sibling. It's Lucas Del Monte. Deb’s eyes sparkle with interest.

Mateo wakes up from his latest drunken stupor, just in time to see the ghost of his mama Catalina, who asks him to stay at home and allow his siblings to help him. He whines about Julieta, she shushes him (a slap would work better), and says Juli will learn to value him, too. And she loves him so much. That’s not enough for Mateo, though, the woman of his life despises him and how could she not, he’s such a drunk!

Apparently Prospi fainted. Now he’s better and Julieta arrives for Rosa to tell her they have money trouble. Did I miss the scene about Prospi’s affair being revealed??

Paloma and Simon arrive at the bar to ask Modesto to help them with the wedding planning. Modesto is afraid to say yes, especially because of Salvador, but how can he say no?? They hug! May you always love one another like you do at this moment, Modesto says.

Simon sees Mr. Henry’s video, too. He’s not happy.

Juan is preparing for his declaration. Mr. Henry calls Pedro to tell him now he owes him Refugio Santa Catalina and the ranch now. Apparently the whole thing was plotted by the two of them. They decide to speak later.

Juan is ready to talk, Pedro wants to sit next to him. As everyone watches, Juan and Pedro talk about getting the company back on track and Juan says Sara is not his lover, but his girlfriend that he loves and will defend.

And that's it! A 30 seconds statement, but apparently it was amazing because as soon as the camera stops rolling, Sara kisses Juan. Pedro pretends to be happy with the declaration they gave, and when they are left alone Juan admits they work well together, which means that he needs to stay on as President. But Pedro is worried for the company, too, and he will protect it, even against Juan. They talk about Severiano changing with Pedro just before he died, but Juan doesn’t know the reasons and Pedro doesn’t want to share, says he has nothing to hide. Pedro leaves, he has to get ready for the congress. Juan asks him to take care what he tells to the press.

Julieta is upset Juan never made a declaration about her while they were together. The girls and Prospi want Deb out, but how can Rosa throw out her friend and business partner? More family squabbling, especially when everyone points out that Deb has a rich daughter that could help her and how come Rosa thinks Deb is so great anyway?

Irma is outside the bar, but Salvador stops her from coming in. She just want Paloma’s forgiveness, says she only cheated on him because he pushed her away. She won’t give up on reaching Paloma and even if he stops her from going inside for now, she will stay in town until Paloma is ready to talk to her. Salvador looks like he's about to strangle Irma, but he somehow refrains himslef.

Mateo is in a club, drinking and hooking up with a girl who looks a lot like and is even named Julieta. At one point he gets so deluded, he even thinks this woman is his Julieta, saying he loves her. The girl wants to leave, but he suggests they go somewhere else. She actually agrees. Stay tuned to see what happens next on "True Crimes - the Del Monte Chronicles. "

Deb wants more details from Amado. He tells her his mom is very sick and asked him to come search for his brother. He only knew it was Lucas going by the age. He adds that his family was very poor, so his mom left Lucas in town (at an orphanage?) and couldn’t get him back anymore. Deb promises to help him, but he has to keep all of this a secret.

Then Deb calls Dante to give him the good news: she knows who is Lucas Del Monte’s brother.

Modesto asks Paloma and Simon to leave, but Salvador arrives and sees them. Simon tells him about the wedding and Salvador says he won’t say no anymore. He will always see him as Severiano’s son, but so be it. Simon and Paloma plan to marry next week. Salvador can’t give his blessing, because her mother is back in town. Paloma cries.

Cornelio comes to visit Bea and Cornelio. Sweet moment with Tadeo, who loves him a lot and wants to be like him when he grows up. Then Cornelio apologizes to Bea for trying to take the boy away, he was desperate. He has no more family, no home and no work… Bea wants him to leave!

Lucas and Sara are alone, talking about how impressed they are of the way Juan defended Sara. She even understands what he meant when he asked her to separate business from their private life. Really, that's all it took? Juan comes by quickly to tell her to wait for him while he goes to talk to Dante. As soon as he’s gone, Pedro comes to talk to Sara, too. After Lucas leaves, he tells her he only wanted to become president because he found proof of Juan comminting fraud in the company.

Juan and Dante talk about the possibility of losing their stock value. And Juan wants to have Mr. Henry followed, see who he connects with. Dante asks if he wants Mr. Henry gone for good, it’s the type of drastic measure Seve sometimes took; Juan hopes it won’t come to this (but he's not completely shoked by the possibility).

Lucas tells Alondra he prefers Juan as President instead of Pedro. She’s not happy with Sara’s influence over him, but Lucas would rather not get into this, since Sara is his sister and they just started going out. He then receives a message notification: someone is asking to boycott the company because Juan only cares about himself. He, Pedro and Sara run to warn Juan and they mention the live Lucas did where he complained about Juan rejecting his kinesiotherapy project.

Avocados R US is being canceled all over social media.

Juan makes some calls, asks Dante to call all the clients who are canceling their orders and fine them. A client calls Juan, so he offers a 10% discount to keep him. Pedro is upset they have all these propblems, he wants to call for a meeting and give Juan a vote of non confidence.

Juan pushes Pedro on his chair: want this place? Take it! And if you make a mistake I will be the one voting you out of the company for good. You think this is so easy? Or that I don’t know everything you’ve done against the company? (Pedro flashes back to his last confrontation with his father) Juan pushes Pedro again and tells him he will have to confront this as the vicepresident he is.

Juan is also upset with how irresponsible Lucas was, posting that video against him. Sara thinks Juan should stop making declarations and Juan asks his social media people to remove Lucas’ video. No more lives, Lucas, he also orders!!

Paloma wants to run to see her mother. She needs an explanation. Salvador kneels to apologize for all the pain he caused her, he loves her so much, he doesn’t want to lose her. Manipulative much?

Mateo and FauxJulieta are in bed together. To the Patio's surprise, she's still alive. More amazing still: Mateo can still perform after drinking twice his body weight. He keeps saying he loves this new girl, but then grabs his phone to look at RealJulieta’s number. What have I done? He sends her a text, saying he misses her. RealJulieta smiles when she sees the message.

Alondra comes to tell her about the problems in the Del Monte family. They both blame Sara for everything. But Alondra and Lucas are dating now, even if Lucas loves Sara, who Alondra detests.  Julieta has an idea, so she grabs her purse and leaves in a hurry, even as it rains heavily.

Juan revises the contract Severiano signed with Mr. Henry. They have a clause that protects them for two months in case they can’t deliver the merchandise. Dante is in charge with dealing with the legal implementation of this clause. Juan wants to go see Henry and asks Pedro to come with him.

Sara arrives at the bar to tell Simon to go talk to the workers the next day, Juan asked him to. This is Sara’s fault, of course, Simon accuses her, and Paloma tries to calm him. Sara says they are all trying to fix the problem together and Simon agrees to work with his brothers, but not with her. Sara leaves and Paloma wants him to stop fighting with his sister. But Simon wants Paloma to stop all contact with Sara when they are married. Still no red flags, Paloma?

Juan and Pedro come to talk to Mr. Henry. Juan grabs him by the collar, ruffles him up a bit. He’s no professional, they had agreed to terminate their contract as gentlemen, but Henry decided to play dirty, so now Juan will force him to respect all the clauses in their original contract. Pedro asks Juan not to dirty his hands with such a guy. Mr. Henry calls Juan an adoptado, son of a prostitute. Filled with rage, Juan head-butts him and Henry collapses to the floor.

Adriana, an incredible recap. “Cancel culture has reached the pueblos” was excellent and side bar worthy.

“True Crimes – the Del Monte Chronicles” was another favorite.

Tonight, we learned Juan does indeed possess a steely spine. He decisively issues his declaration, determined to regain Del Monte dominance all the while defending his love Sara. When Pedro goads him a bit too far, Juan calls his bluff, demonstrating physical superiority by forcing him to sit on the seat of power. Pedro’s arrogance failed him his face mirroring fear and astonishment. “Dante asks if he wants Mr. Henry gone for good, it’s the type of drastic measure Seve sometimes took; Juan hopes it won’t come to this (but he's not completely shocked by the possibility).” No, he wasn’t and this revelation showed Juan was not completely blind to Sev’s questionable business practices. And the depth of his rage when he head-butted Henry was rather astonishing. Juan’s raging waters run much deeper than I thought.

Unsurprisingly, Mateo continues to be an idiot. I laughed out loud at “More amazing still: Mateo can still perform after drinking twice his body weight”.

Salvador continues to bully Irma and Deb continues her annihilation tour. Sigh.

Finally, “Simon wants Paloma to stop all contact with Sara when they are married. Still no red flags, Paloma?” Poor Paloma stuck between Pedro and bullying Salvador. For her sake, I hope her reunion with Irma goes well.

This was a pivotal episode that you captured perfectly Adriana. Thank you!!

Diana

Amazing recap, Adriana! Thank you!

I'm kind of busy, so I won't write much (at least not now), but I have to say that everyone has cheated on everyone in this town. Even the "good" characters. Honestly, the only cheating that I classify as a mistake was Bea's. I completely lost my respect for Irma when I heard that she was friends with Catalina while sleeping with her husband. (I'm not defending Salvador, who is awful too.) Deb is well, Deb. Rosa was annoying anyway, Prospi should just get a divorce and Severiano del Monte sucks.

If I were Sara, I'd leave this messed up family, where two siblings fight for their step-sister, the other is probably sponsored by a wine-making company, the other should have therapy sessions with himself and the last is live streaming everything. Screw the inheritance from a "father" that left her. Even if she does indeed get it, she'll probably have to do therapy sessions every day to cope with what's going on. Honestly, if you have to choose between your mental health and money, choose your mental health.

Great work, Adriana. I upvote all the mentioned quotes.

I truly fail to understand how Pedro expects to win by allowing Mr Henry to get the family property. Doesn't that also include the avocado crop? Wouldn't that also make Pedro subservient to this nasty gringo? This also puts him in hot water with Dante who expected to get at least one of those properties.

All of that could be completely meaningless if the company's stock plummets or any gossip comes out about Juan committing fraud, which we all know he didn't.

Why isn't Dante telling Pedro off about this?

We're on the same page about what Sara should do. I will also add she should disown her egg donor. She knows that Deborah is pretending to be Rosa's friend while boinking her husband, so Deborah can only ever be a liability to Sara in future.

Paloma is not in a good position now either. A jailbreak marriage to Simon would only lead her into another prison.

More later.

Cher Adriana, merci for another bouncing account of life on the avocado ranch. I haven't watched this episode yet , but I am looking forward to it.

I am confused about who is zooming whom. Does Pedro have separate dirty deals with both Dirty Dante and Horrid Henry ? Were Dante and Juan referring to actually killing Henry and suggesting that Sev did that sort of thing ?

They say that you should dress for the job you want, and Pedro certainly does that with the omnipresent three piece suits.

Cannot wait for Pal to finally meet Irma.

So Amado is Lucas's bother. What will tricky Deb do with this new tidbit of information?

Thanks, Andrea. The recap was perfect. Yea, maybe Brayan should prepare his own food!

I enjoyed Juan putting Pedro in his place and recognizing Sara publicly but LOVED Juan giving the old head butt to Henry.

So how long do we give Alondra and Brayan (or will she end up pregnant) before they realize that they should have waited a bit before getting married?

Diana, you mentioned Salvador’s continued bullying of Irma and Paloma. He also seemed to physically threaten her in the street. Is this a town full of wife beaters? I want to know all of Irma’s story.

Urban, at least It looks like Paloma is beginning to notice how nasty her dear Simón can be. I hope she investigates and cancels the engagement.

The Mateo interlude with the other Julieta was way too long. We got the message in the first scene.

Lucas is a nice guy but needs a brain. At least now we have an idea of how he ended up at the DelMonte’s.

Weirdo, ITA that IRL, I world be gone like the wind from a family like this. Who would need this kind of aggravation?

Adriana - thank you for yet another snarktastic recap. You wrote so many wonderful lines that if I quoted my favorites, I would be quoting half the recap.

Juan's head-butt woke me up. LOL but .. ow! Someone will have a bad headache.

Susanlynn - Pedro does indeed have separate deals with Henry and Dante where he has promised each of them the ranch/hacienda. I have no doubt he has a plan to wiggle out of those deals and keep it all for himself.

Pedro truly is rotten to the core and that flashback with Sev sealed the deal for me. It also makes me now wonder if Pedro caused the mortal SUV crash and Sev's death.

"Pedro’s arrogance failed him his face mirroring fear and astonishment."
Well said, Diana. I observed the same thing. The actor did a great job with this scene.

Note to Paloma: Simón demanding that you stay away from Sara once you are married is a big. red. flag. This guy does not respect you AND he has control issues, and won't stop there.

Weirdo, with "friends" like Deb, Irma and who knows who else, Catalina didn't need any enemies did she? All hiding in plain sight. Sev disrespected her and made a mockery of her love. And her children...so damaged despite all the love she gave them.

Urban, I wonder what will happen so that Deb's treachery will be revealed. Sadly it seems as though it will need to get to that point where Sara won't be able to turn a blind eye as she has all along.

Susanlynn, Amado telling Deb his truth made no sense - Modesto was the obvious choice!! He will rue that decision.

Jarifa, "Is this a town full of wife beaters? I want to know all of Irma’s story" - excellent question and I want to know what happened as well. The physical violence here is very upsetting.

doris, I totally agree that Simon isn't being subtle, he is laying his anger right out there for Paloma to see. Very disturbing.

Jarifa and doris, the head butt was the highlight of the night for me! In my eyes, Juan is definitely worthy of galan status. Large and in charge! About time.

Diana

"Amado telling Deb his truth made no sense"

- IIRC Amado told Deb that Cornelio told him that Deb was a good person who would help him. (ack!!!). So that's what Amado did, because he knows Corny to be of sound mind and character. (yikes) Deb helped Corny with the truck, kidnap plan, etc., hence the "referral". Corny is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and we all know that by now but Amado does not.

doris, "Note to Paloma: Simón demanding that you stay away from Sara once you are married is a big. red. flag. This guy does not respect you AND he has control issues, and won't stop there." ITA. Can't agree more.

Adriana: I loved your recap of last night's episode & I especially liked the title of your recap "Cancel culture has reached the Pueblos".

The red alarms are going off at Category 73 in my strong suspicions about Psycho Pedro & Crazy Simon (the mystery of who wanted Scumbag Seve dead) especially Crazy Simon with his deep-seated hostility towards Goldie Locks Sara. I've got a bad feeling an ugly harsh confrontation is coming tonight based on the previews.

Diana: Did you see that head-butt Juan gave that jerk ?

Doris: My message to Paloma: WATCH YOUR BACK because if you anger Crazy Simon: you better hope he doesn't instigate your untimely demise.

UA: I agree with you that it's only a matter of time before Goldie Locks Sara finds out about Gold-Digger Debbie's treachery & evilness. I am NOT convinced Goldie Locks is Scumbag Seve's daughter.

Susanlynn: Psycho Pedro's secret deals while at the same time, he plans on backstabbing his so-called "business partners" by keeping all of it for himself.

This is like the Artemio Bravo 2.0 Telenovela.

Weirdo: I'm getting an ugly feeling Crazy Simon will psychically harm Goldie Locks Sara in some way tonight.

Like I've said before: Memo to Paloma: WATCH YOUR BACK because you made your bed with this fool, now you lie in it.

Thanks so much, Adriana, your recap was excellent and I loved all your quotes!

I had not thought about Sara not being Sev’s daughter but now I’m wondering how long Deb and Dante have been together. They could have cooked up this plan years ago. That would take a lot of patience. And would Sara just sit by as Dante and Deb get everything?

Can’t figure out what Pedro is getting in return for giving away the family home. Maybe he just wants to get far away with lots of money. I would definitely want to get as far away from all that fighting. I’m also wondering if Pedro is the one who ruined the crop. I was sure it was Julie but Pedro would have the know how and ability to do it.

Liz

Doris, thank you for jogging my memory as to why Amado told Deb about his dilemma: " IIRC Amado told Deb that Cornelio told him that Deb was a good person who would help him. (ack!!!)".

That said, I don't get her glee. I can't figure out her angle...how can this revelation help her financially? Because with her, it's always about the dinero. With an unhealthy dose of cruelty of course.

Liz, I don't "get" Pedro's plan at all either unless he is planning to scam Henry too?

Steve, I saw and loved the head-butt. I didn't know Juan had it in him! :)

Diana
Love that

Liz, yes, I was also thinking that Pedro sabotaged the avocados as part of his plot with Mr. Henry.

Liz: I am super confident that Goldie Locks is NOT Scumbag Seve's daughter & that she's actually Dante the Looter's.

I also think that Gold-Digger Debbie & Dante the Looter must've been together for a long time based on the opening credits, etc.,

On Psycho Pedro sabotaging the crops, I wouldn't be surprised since he is the BAD EVIL SEED along with Buji Julie. I also view Crazy Simon as another BAD EVIL SEED too.

I've said this before & will again: This must be the SUPER EVIL version of Artemio Bravo 2.0 Telenovela: wreak havoc, loot the family business, crops, etc., plus instigating a Body Count because I've got a BAD feeling the Body Count is likely to increase soon.

Adriana, you knocked it out of the park. Gracias.

Woohoo, loved Juan shoving Pedro in his prez chair. Pedro has known Juan all his life and they've been through thick and thin together, yet Pedro underestimated Juan. I could see admiration and surprise beneath Pedro's anger when Juan took the bull by the horns to deal with the backlash.

How nice of Simon to "let" Paloma remain in contact with Sara until they're married. Not! Goodness, where did that attitude spawn from? Surely Sev wasn't like that with Catalina? But then, Sev got fringe benefits from Catalina's "friends." Paloma needs a good motherly figure to counsel her. Sure hope Irma does Paloma some good while she's in town.

Goodness, the avocado business can go mafia rubbing out enemies? I don't see Juan doing that. My take is Juan was hiding his feelings when Dante suggested taking out Mr. Henry, like he (Juan) was pretending to know everything about his dad, which I don't think he does. I guess we'll find out the truth in flashbacks.

I have no idea how finding out about his bio-family will affect Lucas. He's young and made a stupid mistake livestream dissing Juan's rejection his horse project, but he holds animosity toward no one. Wondering what Deb will do to mess with Lucas's head.

"That said, I don't get her glee. I can't figure out her angle...how can this revelation help her financially? Because with her, it's always about the dinero. With an unhealthy dose of cruelty of course."
Diana - I suspect Deb may well have, along with being a sociopath, a serious case of Schadenfreude. I can't imagine any other explanation.

Ah, Lucas, bless his heart. He is such a good soul (so far!) and doesn't have a clue. He is the "dreamer" of the pack. Someone needs to keep him off social media.

Schadenfreude would certainly help explain Deb, doris!

Lucas is a good kid as you noted Niecie. He has to realize you can't throw a tantrum every time you don't get what you want. Watching Simon and Mateo, you would think he would have learned his lesson. Somewhat. :)

Diana

Adriana, your recap is stellar as always! Real quick and yet not missing a single detail! :)

I would be okay with it if they took out Mr. Henry. I mean I don't want them to kill him, I just want him off my TV screen. I don't know if it's the actor, the acting, the stupid fake accent or the one frozen look he always as on his face when he's yelling his lines but that guy grates, I wouldn't miss him if he disappeared.

I agree with those above who said Pedro is planning to give anyone anything - he's trying to play them all and end up with everything. He's awful, but he's handsome and Daniel's facial expressions are actually interesting and intriguing so I can't quite hate him.

I don't think Simon is wicked, evil, or a criminal. He definitely has a bad attitude and a horrible anger issue and I am SICK of hearing him say 'Sara Sara Sara' but I don't see him as a villain and I doubt he killed Seve. Yes, he walked away from the car but that was 100% reaction and trauma, I don't think it was premeditated. He definitely needs to get over himself, stopping trying to control Paloma and get some help for those anger issues but I'm betting he'll be redeemed. Unlike the BSC Pedro with his wonderful suits and adorable smirk.

I think Lucas acts like a child because he's treated like a child. He is constantly being talked down to be every single one of them and treated like the little kid who is too young to know anything. It's like he internalized it and now acts it out.

How sad that Juan says one nice thing about Sara and she just gushes and fawns at his feet....sigh That chick needs some spark - everyone else in this tale has too much attitude and Sara has no attitude at all.

Yes, Doris. I, too, was thinking Schadenfreude is playing a role in Deb’s “activities.” Her eyes light up with extreme glee whenever she come upon someone who is desperate or in trouble, particularly if its connected to the MONTES family.
AMOT

I have never seen anyone give side eye like Pedro. It's his trademark look.

I agree about Pedro. He is doing a stellar job in spite of how much he ANNOYS me!! His myriad facial expressions are amazing; A single expression manages to convey more than one feeling.
AMOT

"I would be okay with it if they took out Mr. Henry. I mean I don't want them to kill him, I just want him off my TV screen. I don't know if it's the actor, the acting, the stupid fake accent or the one frozen look he always as on his face when he's yelling his lines but that guy grates" had me smiling away Darcy!! Perfect!

Welcome back amiga. Welcome back.

Diana

Who's doing the recap of last night's episode ?

Steve Boudreaux

I don't think Simon is wicked, evil, or a criminal ... I'm betting he'll be redeemed."

Darcy, yay! I'm glad someone shares my hope for Simon. I've been rooting for him ever since he shoved ruthless Deb out of his mom's bedroom, where she'd thrown Catalina's photo in the wastebasket. But it's a seesaw with him because he can totally get out of control.

I guess México doesn't have assault or defamation laws on the books, e.g., Cornelio/Pedro, Juan/Henry, brother to brother and relative to relative I didn't add.

Maybe that's why the Drug Cartels control the Country.

Maybe Pedro planned on: *damaging the crop so bad that Juan would look incompetent and get kicked out of the Presidency,

*then Pedro could take over,

*then Pedro would kill Henry to get out of any deals he had going on with Henry,

*then Pedro would plant new crops on the Santa Catalina Natural Reserves because he doesn't give a crap about those lands,

*then Pedro keeps the Hacienda, the Business, and the Farm, and

*Gets Sara for himself because he has convinced himself that she will fall in love with him at the drop of a pin

Remember he was stealing all that money way beforehand. Seve probably let it go on for awhile before saying anything, plus all the kickbacks he has been getting.

Just a guess.

From the other episode where Deborah tells Sara she is Prospi's amante, Sara seemed to take it all in stride and not be surprised at all. So, I guess she knows her mother better than we thought.
