La herencia Friday 9/2/22 #35 Notes From the Couch *SEE notes for an important scheduling change
Starting Monday, "La herencia" will have double episodes from 8-10 ET except for Tuesday when it will be on from 8-9 ET. A big thanks to Diana for making me aware of the scheduling change and Rgv Chick for confirming it.
These notes are in no way complete, so please feel free to add anything I omitted.
I really was liking Sara's character in this one. She is as tenacious as her mother but with a set of decent values.
* SARA Juan finally tells Sara, after she gushes on about how she loves him and how nothing would ever separate her from him, that he will never be marrying her and tells her she will be leaving Santa Catalina. His feelings have changed. She can go back to her apartment and does not have to worry about the inheritance because he has taken care of what she would have been given in an account established by Dante. At first, she believes that he is sending her away to protect her (which is the real reason he is doing it/he thinks about having destroyed her happiness in order to save her life) until Juan lowers the boom. He tells her that Juli is pregnant and that he has decided to create a family with her there at the hacienda. Sara looks disgusted as he says the baby was not planned and that he will not reject it. It is over. Sara makes it clear that he will never touch her again and she will not be leaving. Her mother warned her about the brothers but she never thought he would end up being the most despicable. He is stupid if he would think she will give up so easily. She would rather die than leave Santa Catalina.
Question: If enemies wanted to get to Juan, would they not just start to threaten Juli and the baby if they replaced Sara as the recipients of Juan's love??? So, is he willing to risk them? So much care for an unborn baby. Doesn’t make sense to me, but galanes have been more than a little dense in novelas as of late.
Although she is devastated, Sara is determined that she will do what her father summoned her for. Everyone is going to get to know her firsthand. She calls a meeting of all of the brothers for that evening. Juli has decided to move in and is there for the meeting as well as Deb and Dante. Sara talks about how she has had to put up with all of their insults, humiliations expecting that one day they would love and accept her but that was not to be. When Juli is snotty with her, Sara warns her that she will go after her pregnant or not. Sara says that since she is the only legitimate offspring of Severiano (only child related by blood), she will be challenging the will so she can be the sole heir to Severiano’s estate. Juan wants her to agree to his proposal. She takes his proposal and rips it up add lets it fall all over the brothers from the second floor landing. She will not be bought off.
* Pedro tells Simón that he wants to fire Dante because of how he spoke himHetries to poison Simón against Juan by telling him that Juan has been embezzling from the company and that he also agreed to hand over the Santa Catalina refuge to Henry in exchange for other businesses. Simón refuses to believe him until Pedro has proof. Pedro says he will get it and show it to him in front of Juan. Pedro tells Simón it is up to the two of them to protect Avocado Central, the hacienda and the refuge.
* Irma visits Rosa. She wants a job at her business. When Rosa balks, Irma asks her if she would rather that she told her hubby that she was one of Severiano’s lover. Irma reminds Rosa that the gossip she spread about her (out of jealousy) caused her to lose her daughter.
*Deb introduces Lucas to his brother Amado.
*Cornelio gives Bea the key back for the house but then tell her they he is selling it so he can use the money to invest in a business with his uncle Sal. He will rent a room for her and Tadeo. She says the house is hers, too, because they used her credit, also. She cannot believe his cruelty and gives him the key back warning him that things are not going to stay like this.
Question: Why do wives in novelas never seem to be joint owners of their houses with their husbands? Should not this have been a part of the divorce so far?
* The quinceañera is a success. Dulce thanks Mateo for being her padrino and he thanks herald Brandon for saving him from a relapse into his alcoholism.
* Brayan gets upset at the "quince" when Sal asks his mother to be his novia. She explains later that she never accepted because she cares most about her kids and because things were never settled with Irma. He apologizes.
* Modesto tries to talk Juan into leaving with Sara and cutting all of his bros free. Juan cannot do that because he is tied to the business, the inheritance and the love he has for Santa Catalina and his brothers. Juan is concerned that Pedro will put the moves on Sara. Modesto says he cannot allow that to happen because Sara still loves him. Juan only wants peace in the house. (Lotsa' luck because Juan is still in LA LA land))
*Pedro and Dante have a couple of run-ins with interesting info.
The first one is when Pedro asks Dante why he is so concerned about Sara. Dante says that since Sara is Severiano’s daughter by blood he felt he had to protect her from the likes of Pedro. Pedro says it is none of his business. He is only a servant. That enrages Dante who warns Pedro that he doesn’t want him as an enemy. Pedro is vulgar and extends his arms and looks like he is “weighing” an “avocado” in each hand. He tells Dante that he doesn’t have the “b***s” (aguacates can be a crude slang term for testicles that comes for the aztec/nahuatl word “ahuácatl” that means testicle taken from the avocado's shape. As a matter of fact, I confess that I was just waiting until I heard this slang being used in "La herencia". Hey, we have a Mexican novela with five virile young men on an avocado farm!) Dante says he has "enough" to tell him to his face that he needs to stop acting like a teenager in competition with Juan. Also, Sara will never be with him because he is a person who cannot love. Pedro is not pleased with Dante and manhandles him grabbing him by the neck and pushing hm around. Dante tells him that he had better watch his back because much more powerful men than him have suffered because they injured him. Pedro has a tantrum in his office.
In their last run-in, Pedro tells Dante that he is no longer working for him. He will not take his disrespect. Dante wonders what will happen when Juan finds out how Pedro promised Henry the Santa Catalina refuge, or when he ordered the attack on Cornelio, or any of the other crooked deals he has been involved in. Pedro manhandles Dante again (YAWN) and reminds him that he paid him to keep his mouth shut and of the good cut he got on all of the deals. Dante says that the deals were only successful because he advised him. Juan knows how to make clean deals on his own because he realizes sometimes you have or sacrifice yourself to get what you want. He knows that Pedro is incapable of doing that so he is ready to make him a deal himself: the Santa Catalina Refuge in exchange for the presidency of the company.
That is it from my comfy couch this week.

Thank you for the interesting information on “Aguacate.” You always include fascinating vocabulary and facts. “Hey, we have a Mexican novela with five viral young men on an avocado farm!)” had me laughing away. 😊
Sara’s humiliation has stiffened her spine. She is poised and ready for battle. A woman scorned has fueled her fire. I almost feel sorry for Juan. Almost.
Juan is trying to find some excuse to lessen his guilt. Assuaging his conscience by getting Sara out of the hacienda for her “own good” was the perfect excuse. Of course, the baby (aka Mateo’s baby) should be protected first and foremost but I don’t think he’s thought that far ahead. Perhaps he should start.
Dante’s presence is the only thing keeping Pedro from completely running amok. He knows where all of Pedro’s skeletons are buried. Pedro isn’t as intelligent, but he is desperate which makes him exceedingly dangerous.
Irma wants a job? Rosa’s business doesn’t seem busy enough for one employee, let alone two. Is poor Bea going to lose her job in addition to everything else that’s transpiring, including losing her home??
Irma is sour and dour. Are we sure she isn’t Simon’s mother???
Jarifa, as always, you have given me much food for thought and in record time. Thank you!!
Diana
The vocab is always interesting. Glad you enjoyed the explanation.
“I almost feel sorry for Juan. Almost.” are my sentiments exactly. He has no idea what is coming. Most men don’t. LOL
Great observation about Irma being “sour and dour” and Simón. Thanks for the laugh.
Catalina must have had her hands full with a philandering gaslighting husband and five sons with varying degrees of psychological damage.
How wonderful that being asked to be a padrino at a “quince” helped Mateo gain some self-esteem and avoid the bottle for now at least.
Two important revelations outside of the hacienda:
-- Lucas' egg donor needs a kidney or she will die. Amado was not compatible and his three younger brothers are still children. His father died several years ago.
-- Salvador's flashback to the confrontation with Severiano included the disclosure that Paloma is Severiano's child. I was able to read his lips when he revealed that and Salvador went apeshit. So now we know why both Severiano and Salvador objected to Simon and Paloma's relationship.
To the first point Mateo's brain was working and he insisted on a DNA test to prove relationship. Apparently Amado's parents worked at the ranch. We now have to wonder whether Lucas is Severiano's bio child. Could that be the reason why Lucas is differentiated by being the only one of the brothers with no facial hair? BTW, I just googled to find photos of Leonardo Daniel when young and there is enough resemblance between him, his real-life son, and Juan Pablo Gil (Lucas) to see this as a possibility... or a red herring.
Beatriz lost her job thanks to the financial problems in the Millan family.
Tadeo addressed Juan as "tio" when he came to pick him up for school and to stay at the ranch for a few days.
Comic relief was in the Millan household on two fronts:
Afternoon into Dinner:
-- Berta gave an end-of--month notice of her resignation. Rosa begged on her knees for her to reconsider and was caught doing so by Jessica and Brayan when they arrived. Berta went on about her values and she could not continue to work for a family with so many issues and arguments. Nobody wants her to leave and Jessica pointed out that she needed her to teach her how to cook (at least the girl wants to learn). Over dinner Berta showed Brayan that napkins are put in the lap. She had prepared a soup nobody was familiar with.
Night:
-- Rosa insisted that Brayan sleep on the couch and would not let him go to Jessica's room. Prospero said nothing until he and Rosa were alone in their room and her class prejudice reared its ugly head once again. She went after Propero but I think he was turned off.
-- Brayan had trouble sleeping alone on the couch. Jessica had trouble sleeping alone and went down to join him. They were covered with a comforter when Berta went downstairs in a long white nightgown and mob cap and caught them. Right or wrong this was disobedience of Rosa and she ripped off the comforter to find that Brayan was naked, which shocked her Victorian sensibilities.
To an earlier point no threat was made against Juli Stepford. Also, I don't think Juan believes that he knocked her up. This is all a front because he knows that Sara would never leave over threats against herself. If you've also been watching Mujer de Nadie there's another example.
Note that neither Juan nor Sara is happy about how they are now treating each other.
Note the dominatrix footwear and other garments on Juli Stepford, Sara, and Deborah.
That's it for me for now. I have to get ready to go to a memorial service for an aunt who died two weeks ago. She was 103.
UA: Busted out laughing when you've referred to Buji Julieta as Juli Stepford.
Diana: Let's hope Mary Poppins 2.0 gets a happily ever after with Modesto after all of this mess is over.

Looks like Sara got her dark roots touched up a bit before she came home from the hospital. ;-)
Another BINGO square is checked off! "MAIN COUPLE BREAK UP"
If Sara would get herself engaged to someone other than our galán, I would have a BINGO in two directions on the same card.
Wouldn't it be interesting if ALL those brothers really were Sev's progeny? How else would they have located and chosen those kids? Doesn't seem that they used a legitimate adoption agency for any of them.
Pedro is becoming more vile by the episode. Yikes. I see no redemption in his future and hope his anvil is satisfying.
URBAN How did you see the scenes that were not shown on Univision? Are you watching online somewhere? They were probably cut from Looneyvision for commercials. There are usually four-minute-long commercial breaks, sometimes 4 1/2 minutes. Argh.
Ooo . . . I like your theory that all of the boys are really Severiano’s sons. That could be a real possibility.
I am always surprised that dark roots last as long as thye do since the actors do get hair and makeup done on set. 🤔
As you pointed out, Juan isn't the brightest gallan in the bunch. Who exactly does he think is threatening him??? We've joked about the avocado business being like the mafia but seriously, there aren't that many likely suspects and Henry is dead!! He lives in a house full of brothers (minus Lucas and maybe Pedro) who hate Sara and want her gone; and has a girl Friday/ex who can't stand her and is desperate to run her off! How does he not know that one of the above is sending him these texts to scare him into running Sara off?? Maybe the accident shook him so much he isn't thinking straight? Also how arrogant of him to believe Sara would leave just because he said so! They agreed to live there for a year and he thinks he can just say 'I'm done with you now, go back to Mexico City', and she'll go?? What a delusional hero we have.
It drives me crazy when people refer to the bio parents/siblings as the 'real' parents/siblings as opposed to the adoptive ones. It's so disrespectful of the reality of what adoption is. Lucas's real mom is the one who raised him! His brothers are in that house with him - not that that is much of a prize.
Doris, I don't think Urban was seeing any deleting scenes, I think Jarifa is correct and she was commenting on a different episode entirely. Sometimes we do have the deleted scene issue but that's way too many scenes for it to be the same episode.
Urban, I'm sorry to hear of your aunt's passing. God bless you and your family.
"Wouldn't it be interesting if ALL those brothers really were Sev's progeny?" OMG doris, I can't even comprehend what that would mean!
Darcy, I think you are right in that Juan isn't thinking clearly. That said, his expecting Sara to go quietly into that not so good night was cringeworthy and "delusional" as you noted.
From what you wrote Urban, looks like Monday will be an explosive episode!
Diana
Urban - I am sorry for your loss. 103?? Sounds like she had a long full life, I hope it was full of love and joy and happiness.
Urban, sorry for your loss. At least she didn't die young.
I had a busy day today. I'll probably comment more things tomorrow. Just posted my Mujer de Nadie recap in the Univisión page. The only thing I'll do for the rest of the day is drink my lemon ice tea and watch a La Madrastra episode ;)
Joke about " moving the couch\sofa."
Mateo looked downright pleasant at the party. I saw him standing next to Bea and wondered if they might end up together. He needs to movE away from toxic Juli , but that poor bebe is most likely his . Will the bebe and Juli survive ? Spoiled princessa Juli deserves a huge anvil for all her conniving to grab Juan .
My favorite part of last nights episode was Sara standing at the top of he dramatic , opulent staircase , tearing the papers, and letting them float down on the tribe below.
Loved all the comments , too. After I read Urban recommend , I wondered if I had dozed off on my couch . Looks like we have a bunch of revelations popping up on Monday's episode.
Pedro pushed Dante so hard , the actor actuslly flew into tbe door . I guess Pedro does not yet realise that he is dealing with a stone cold killer . Pedro has been acting out physically a lot lately. These bros need some anger management counseling ...but not from Simon.
So here I am on the caray patio as I sit on my real patio ...avoiding inside chores . Our heatwave has finally broken , but we really need rain. I had a walk and picnic lunch At a park with my bff yesterday, and I saw a squirrel and thought of Deb and her squirrel tail hat and started to laugh .
Last time that staircase was in a telenovela, alas, nobody fell down it. Muy disappointing.
We might need to keep a tally on how many color squirrel tail hats Deb owns.
Sara owned that scene up on the stairs. And was that a glint of admiration and "you show them" I saw in Dante and Modesto's eyes when she rejected Juan's proposal? They both had fatherly pride written all over their faces.
Dulce's party was actually very sweet. Exactly what we needed to balance out all the drama.
One detail that might prove important: when Irma first showed up at the Milan house Prospero and Juli were still home and standing close together. When she said they look so much alike Rosa's eyes went sooo big, I thought she had eaten a canary or something. These types of scenes are never random in a novela, so is Juli Severiano's daughter, or I am allowing my imagination to go wild? Is this why Rosa wants her to be duena and senora at the ranch, without having to reveal the affair? Kind of like having her cake and eating it, too?
Dulce's quinceañera dress was soooo pretty. It's the nicest one I can ever remember seeing. Most in online stores are rather tacky looking.
I agree that Dulce's dress was absolutely beautiful!
I still want Juli to die in child birth, though, and let Mateo raise his child, it can't be random that he's shown to be so good with kids all of a sudden.
"Mateo looked downright pleasant at the party" made me laugh Susanlynn. He certainly did and what a nice change of pace. :)
doris, I'm going to start paying attention to the color of Deb's hats. Are the little tails interchangeable? :) HA!
Diana
Whoa, Juan has messed up big time. But this has brought out Grade A fighting skills in our heroine! Sara will need her own lawyer to fight the will. Wondering who this will be.
She takes his proposal and rips it up and lets it fall all over the brothers from the second floor landing.
Loved, loved this scene!
Irma is sour and dour. Are we sure she isn’t Simon’s mother???
Diana, too funny. I'd been wondering when Irma would turn up again.
The quince was a nice break. Augustin's waltz with Dulce was my favorite.
Irma reminds Rosa that the gossip she spread about her (out of jealousy) caused her to lose her daughter.
I'm still trying to figure out how Rosa, Deb, Irma, Adela, and Catalina related to each other back in the day. If I've got it right, Rosa and Deb didn't know each other back then. It seems Irma may or may not have boinked Sev, but why stay away from her kid for so many years? Sal can be nasty but he isn't all-powerful. I need a flashback of Irma from Modesto's mind.
Deb got on my last nerve urging Lucas to hug Amado. Grrrh! Let Lucas process this in his own way.
Sibling rivalry is one thing, but Pedro seems to want to destroy Juan. The other boys, despite fist fights, rudeness, etc., look up to Juan as a father figure. Taking down Juan for embezzlement would ruin the anchor of this family - yes, I know, such as it is!
Urban, my condolences to you and your family on the passing of your aunt. So many memories for one who has lived a long life. Wishing you peace and comfort.
I've thought Juli could be Sev's kid, so Mateo and Juan better not be his bio kids! Ewwww. I hope she isn't because she'd really put on airs and be intolerable then;a Rosa times ten!
Juan is dumb, low score on EQ scale. He showed not one bit of remorse or emotion when he broke up with Sara. Nor did he protest when she accused him of using her. Idiot.
That staircase is just waiting to be the scene of a fight, with someone rolling down, down to the bottom. Any guesses on who? My first bet is Juli and Sara. Since Sara has had the dramatic hospital scene, it's Juli's turn.
No, I haven't seen any future episodes. Just guessing.
Beth S.
Diana , hmmm, maybe that squirrel tail snaps on and off Deb's hats. I don't like to wear hats , but I do have one I wear when in the sun . It doesn't have a squirrel tail adornment.
I really think it is Juli sending the threatening texts. She really wants Sara gone more than anyone. Or it could be Rosa! Or one the brothers. So I don’t think there will be any threats against Juli or the baby. Speaking of Juli, didn’t Juan seem surprised that she showed up! He did invite her to live there! Maybe he didn’t expect her so soon.
I like the thought of all the brothers being Sereriano’s. Then Sara would be Dante’s for sure! I did not realize Sara said she was going for it all. I thought she was just refusing to leave. I wish I knew more Spanish than I do!
Mateo was nice and charming at the party. I hope he stays sober as I could like him.
Pedro is getting worse each episode. And he’s accusing Juan(to Simon) of what he’s doing. He and Juli are really horrible. I hope Juli is miserable living in that house with all the fighting. But she might be like Deb and enjoy it!
Liz
Two-hour episodes next week? Valgame Dios! No puede ser!
Honestly, I can't take two hours a day of these horrible people. I may have to rely on recaps. I can't wait for this thing to end, just to get them out of my life. And Mexicana is going to daytime! Ratings must not have been what they hoped for.

We need to be on pregnancy watch for Sara!
Yes, it is pregnancy watch time for Sara. It could be a birthing contest if Juli’s baby is Juan’s. Which baby will be Juan’s primogénito? That is even getting far out for me, so I will leave while I am ahead. Hasta mañana.
On my way home now.
My aunt was a woman who feared nothing. She traveled alone to so many places from England to Australia. She was active in her church and sang in its choir. There are a couple of her great-nieces who have her name. She took me to Europe then I was 15, rented a car, and drove despite never having been there before. She was still flirting with men at 100. Every woman should have her chutzpah.
Your aunt sounds incredible and incredibly brave - ahead of her time.
doris, while the quantity of time with your aunt was too short, it sounded as though the quality was very gratifying.
Diana
AMOT
AMOT
My aunt was child-free, as I was. I don't know whether or not that was her choice. Her longevity may or may not be an anomaly. I do recall that she gave up smoking when I was a young child. She was fully independent until she was 101.
Herencia
I think Univision is playing with the scissors again, as they did with MFEA.

Dratted Looneyvision and their notorious tijeracide.
Weirdo: You're doing the recap of tonight's Gran Final ?
Steve Boudreaux
Doris: Univision moving "MEXICANA" to Daytime at 2:00 PM CST means they might be bringing Aracely Arambula's new Telenovela into the 7:00 PM CST slot soon.
