Another recapper, or two, would be greatly appreciated. Short and snappy is fine!

At the end of the previous episode, we saw one of the kidnapped women (Tatiana?) tell Pablo et al that Perro (who has just died) is not the Black Horseman, the BH is Karen. As the present episode begins, we see that same young woman walk through the woods to the truck where Perro's body is. She kicks him where it would hurt most if he were alive, then takes out her phone. I'm not sure what she does with it. She then moves away from his body and calls her mother to tell her that she's alive and free, she's been rescued. She tells her mother she loves her and hopes to see her soon.
We see Jonathan and Fedor looking at the video recording of Karen. Oleg tells them that they need to find a phone call between Karen and Perro. Sheila remembers that Karen was on the phone in her office. They locate the call on the recording. Karen is talking to Rojas (Fredy). She asks, "Are you sure the old man didn't know he was being followed?" She then writes down some coordinates. Jonathan is able to figure out what they are, and that they lead to the Yungas, about 10 hours from where Oleg and the others currently are.
The scene shifts to the truck carrying Faustino and the others. It's still stuck, and they decide they need to have someone tow it to get it unstuck. They're about to go off in search of help when a police car approaches. Amazingly, the police help them with the truck. The police are about to leave when one of them says, "Just a minute." Uh oh. But no, it turns out the policeman just wants Faustino to bless his crucifix. Padre G quickly says he'd like to do that, and he does. The cop is delighted, and the police leave.
At the police station, Sierra keeps trying to talk with Rojas, who is very eager to leave. He finally tells Sierra, "I won't be back today. You're in charge." He rushes out before Sierra can ask any more questions.
Teresa tells the newly freed girls that Batman and Anton will take them to their families. "The nightmare is over. You have to trust, because there are also good people in the world." She offers a special hug and thanks to Tatiana, who probably was the one who told her that Karen is the Black Horseman.
The truck carrying Mateo, Sofia, et al makes it to a place near the water. The group wash up. Padre G and Mateo are about to leave. Mateo is with Sofia. They are hugging and kissing. Then Mateo says goodbye and goes to join Padre G. The padre asks Mateo about his feelings for Sofia, and he then urges Mateo to follow his heart and go with her. An astonished Mateo asks Padre G what he will do. "Miss you," replies the padre. "I'll go back to the kids, where I can do my thing. Promise me you won't forget what I taught you." Mateo assures him he'll never forget.
The padre then returns to the truck. He sees something on the front seat and a note. The note is from Faustino: "Even though you'll say no, you're going to need this money, so here it is. I know you don't like lies, but this [money] is so the police won't bother you. If they stop you, say I kidnapped you and forced you to drive me. If they catch me, that's what I'll say." Accompanying the note are two large piles of money.
Batman and Anton lead the rescued girls through the woods to a place near the road where they expected someone to take charge of the girls. But no one is there. Batman says he'll call Sheila. But then an empty bus arrives and two women get out. They're surprised no one is there. Batman decides they're the ones who have come for the girls. He tells the girls to go ahead to the bus. [I confess I was uneasy about this, but at least during the rest of the episode, nothing occurred to indicate that anything was amiss.]
Teresa still finds it hard to believe that Karen is the Black Horseman. She recalls Tatiana saying that even Abel had no idea what his wife was doing.
The scene shifts to a river in Peru, not far from the border with Colombia. We see a small boat with Faustino, Sofia, Mateo, and Paloma. Paloma sees Faustino take something out of a sack. "This is the Amazon," he tells her. "We don't know what kind of creatures we may encounter." (So I'm assuming what he took out was some kind of weapon.) Not long after this, he spots the hotel where they'll be staying.
Sierra gleefully reports to Charlie that a vehicle with the stolen license plates went through a checkpoint a half hour ago. In the vehicle were 3 men and a woman.
Abel asks a man who works for him "Is it ready?" "Almost, sir," the man replies. He adds, "Tomorrow I'll pick up two men to help us." "Only 2?" asks Abel? The man says something about help being hard to find. The man then asks, "Do we have to move all the gold? It has always been safe here." Abel replies, "If Yatiri says something, I listen."
Later (perhaps the next day?) Abel calls out "Evaristo. Where did you go?" (I think Evaristo may be the man he was talking to in the previous paragraph.) Not receiving an answer, Abel gets up to look for him. He notices something like liquid on the arm of a chair. He touches it and then smells his finger. He goes upstairs and finds Evaristo lying on the floor, probably dead. Then Karen and Rojas appear.
Sierra suggests they use a citizen reward to help them find Our Team (not sure how else to refer to Teresa, Oleg, Pablo, and Anton, not to mention Jonathan, Fedor, Batman, and Sheila), now that they know more or less the direction in which they're heading. Offer a reward. Ernie is very pleased with Sierra. He asks Sierra about Rojas. Sierra doesn't understand why he can't reach him, but he doesn't believe Rojas is dishonest.
Karen and Rojas have tied up Abel. Rojas urges Karen to shoot Abel now. She says "Not yet. I want to let him see how we take all the money." Abel tells her she's nothing but a whore. Rojas slugs him. Karen says to Abel, "Thanks to the priest (I assume she means Yatiri), you decided to move the gold." Looking at Abel, she continues, "You kidnapped me! You made me sleep with lots of men!" She starts to take off her clothes. "Take a good look at the real Karen."
Jonathan tells Our Team that the coordinates point to a location accessible via something called the Highway of Death. He tells them it's 196 km away. Our guys start off on the road. They pass a motorist with some kind of car problem. They don't stop, though they express sympathy for someone having problems on a road like this. Little do they know....the motorist reports having seen them to Sierra et al., who make plans to find them.
We then see Rojas carrying heavy crates of gold to his small truck. He tells Karen there's not room for much more. Karen insists she doesn't want to leave any of the gold behind. She goes back into the house. Suddenly someone comes up behind Rojas and knocks him out. Karen comes out of the house to find Teresa pointing a gun at her.
Back in Mexico, Epifanio tells people to cancel all his meetings for the day. He tells Delio that Pablo and Teresa have reported that the Black Horseman is a woman. They've already identified her. "Bitches!" says Delio. "That's why I never trust women." Epifanio tells him he shouldn't be such a misogynist. "You need to love women, not understand them. Like Vanessa."
Epifanio continues, "And you know who's even worse? That [expletive] gringo senator, Kozar." Delio says,"I think not even Alcalá's death will get us off the hook." Epifanio tells him he's having everyone investigated, "Even you!" Delio looks very upset. He protests that he's always been loyal. Epi says, "I know. I have Montaño working on it. You know no spy gets by him."
Ominously, in the very next scene, we see Danilo grabbed by two thugs as he's jogging. They rough him up and throw him into their black van. At first, I was hoping that these were the General's men, since Bebita told him Danilo was someone he could trust. But the grab was too rough.
Back at Fort Knox, Teresa tells Karen, "We want the evidence against the DEA. We know you're the Black Horseman." Abel asks what the Black Horseman is. Teresa tells him, "Your wife is a snitch (soplón) for the gringos."
Oleg and Pablo search the rest of the house to see whether there are others they haven't found. All they see are gold bars. Pablo says each one is worth $60,000. Oleg adds, "All this and everything outside."
Teresa is surprised to learn that Karen and Rojas are lovers. "You and the cop? You always seemed so proper. A quiet woman is a pistol with a silencer." She continues, "Yesterday I saw the girls you had kidnapped. And you," she adds, pointing her gun at Abel. Pointing the gun back at Karen again, she continues, "You don't know how badly I wanted to put a bullet through your head. And yours," she again adds, pointing at Abel. Karen tells Teresa she's ready to deal, but not on Teresa's terms. "Let me leave with him and the gold, and I'll tell you everything you want to know. Do we have a deal?" Abel objects: "The gold is mine!" Teresa points her gun at him again and says, "Shut up! You don't have a wife, you don't have the gold, you don't have mierda!"
Remaining cool and composed, Karen continues: "You already went through all the trouble of finding me. That proves the information is much more important to you than the gold. Do we have a deal?" We get closeups of Karen's face, then Teresa's, and then Pablo's. The camera then pulls back, showing us an aerial view of the house in the woods as the episode ends. (That aerial view gave me the feeling that the police were getting close.)
Terrific recap, Juanita. Thanks for all the amazing details.
I was all into Karen's revenge against Abel, but I would've preferred she shoot him in each foot, then both knees ... working her way up, instead of making out with Rojas in front of him. Abel kidnapped, raped, and prostituted her at age 13. He can't suffer enough.
I get that the Jinete Negro is a DEA informant, but it beats me what Karen has been informing the DEA about. All that gold, surely belonging to the public of Colombia.
So Mateo will stay with Paloma. These two are way too young to commit to anything.
Hoping the rescued girls got picked up by the right people.
Epi was a hoot lecturing Delio about misogyny, but then he is an equal opportunity double crosser. Delio, don't get comfortable.
The gold hideout is in such a remote, forested area. I didn't note the types of vehicles our team and Karen/Rojas are using, maybe Landrover. But they're no match for the helicopter Ernie and Charlie (and Sierra) plan to get.
Novelera & Co.,: I'm assuming y'all have heard about "ESDLC" coming back for an 8th Season with Rafael Amaya back as the legendary Aurelio Casillas with the rest of the cast coming back including new cast members joining.
Excellent recap, Juanita. You make the story complications so clear. Thanks a bunch.
I cheered Karen exacting revenge on Abel, but I would've preferred she shot him in strategic parts, instead of making out with Rojas in front of him.
I suppose we will eventually find out the information that Karen has been giving the DEA.
Mateo and Paloma are too young to commit. I don't mind him joining the merry band though.
The gold hideout in the remote forest is not the best place for our team to get cornered. I didn't note the vehicles our team and Karen/Rojas drove to get there, but I don't think they're a match for the helicopter Ernie and Charlie are getting.
Epi scolding Delio for his misogyny. What a hoot.
Thanks so much, Juanita for another great recap. My viewing was interrupted, and this was extremely helpful.
Had a laugh at Faustino going to bless that cross and Padre G jumping in. Padre G said the statue was San Jose de Padua. I only know St Anthony of Padua and yes, it is said you can ask for his intercession to help find love. In my circles, he’s more well known for his assistance in finding lost items.
I was also worried about those girls going to the women with the bus. The women seemed confused about seeing a group of girls heading toward them. Let’s hope we are worried about nothing. Those poor girls have been through enough abuse already.
I wondered how Teresa and Co. got to Yungas so quickly.
Thanks very much, Niecie in MD and dondi356, for your interesting and insightful comments. I'm glad to know that both of you found the recap helpful.
Niecie, yes, I suppose we'll eventually find out what Karen told the DEA. But I'm not sure how that fits with what Our Team is seeking, namely, proof of nasty/illegal things that the DEA did. Similarly, when Karen says that if they let Rojas and her go with the gold, she'll tell them whatever they want to know, all I could think of is that they need more than an oral account, they need EVIDENCE. At least, that's my (limited) understanding. And I burst out laughing at Epi's scolding Delio for misogyny!
Dondi, I too loved Padre G coming to Faustino's aid re blessing the crucifix. Amd I was interested in what you said about St. Anthony. I could definitely use some help when it comes to finding lost items! As for how Our Team got to Yungas so quickly, I'm pretty sure they made use of Telenovela Magic. We also see it at work a lot in Telenovela Airlines and Telenovela Medicine.
Wonderful, thorough recap, Juanita! I had the same concern about the person picking up the girls. I loved Teresa's scorn for Abel.
That scene of Karen and Rojas getting busy in front of Abel made me wonder about the 9PM airing time for this one. I have a feeling Karen may regret not listening to Rojas about putting a bullet in Abel's head. And speaking of Karen, they might have gotten away if she hadn't insisted on getting every last gold ingot. She even told Rojas to take out some of the seats if he had to. Greed can do you in, Karen.
Sorry to be so late to the party. I had some work from home stuff to do and then I HAD to watch the U.S./Iran World Cup game. Great goal by Christian Pulisuc! We're on to the knockout round!
So far it doesn't seem to have been a problem, but Tatiana kept the phone she used to call her mother. I kept expecting...someone...to use it to find the girls.
Yes, dondi, Faustino is back to his adorable self. I suppose Viewerville might expect a major depression after losing Rocio, but I just love his character so much when he interacts with Sofia and Mateo.
That Sierra is like that puppy that won't settle down and keeps licking your face and/or peeing on the carpet. Could he just get a knock on the head that leaves him in a coma for a week or so? Don't want him dead, but I hate his helping Ernie and Charlie. Speaking of those two, I'm starting to get a bit tired of their ALWAYS finding Our Team's (thanks, Juanita) trail. Is it going to be this way the whole way through, with Team Teresa getting away by a hair?
#28 – Parte 1 de 3
We’re on the Highway of Death in Yungas, Bolivia; and here come the usual throng of cops that Ernie has commandeered. Three motorcycles lead the way, followed by a couple of police cars. Sierra says that the rest of the La Paz cops are watching the house. The Jeep is 10 km away. There are three vehicles there. Ernie says that the priority is not Teresa Mendoza but the person who’s with her…the Jinete Negro.
Karen tells Our Team (thanks Juanita) that things are more complicated than they think. She doesn’t have the proof . Yes, those documents exist, but she doesn’t have them. Pablo: “There’s no deal without the proof.” Karen takes an odd-looking locket from around her neck. She tells Teresa that it’s a key. The DEA agent called the Jinete Blanco gave it to her. It’s a key to where everything they’re looking for can be found.
Karen says that the information was sold through the girls. Teresa tells her to shut it about her dirty business. Teresa puts the “key” around her neck. Karen says that she doesn’t know where the proof is, but one of the others ought to know: the Red Horseman and the Bay Horseman. Teresa explodes with some curse words and I join in. Teresa: “More horsemen? Who are they?” Karen replies that they also work for the White Horseman. They’re part of a network of collaborators that he has constructed here in America. The point is that there are three keys and all three must be used in order to access the information. Teresa asks if they’re all in Bolivia and is told that one is in Argentina and the other in Peru.
In Mexico City Danilo is dragged into a concrete room by the masked guys who grabbed him off the road while he was jogging. The proceed to put him face down in a barrel of water over and over.
Our Colombian friends are bushwhacking through the Amazon jungle in Peru. We hear bird calls and monkey cries. Faustino does a nice bird call, and his contact pops up. [I’m pretty sure that this actor portrayed Melquiades in Doña Bárbara in 2008. He has a distinctive, mostly indigenous face.] If his name in this role was mentioned, I didn’t take it down. He knows all of their names, saying he has a friend in the police. Faustino asks him if it’s far to la pista (landing strip).
The guys who have Danilo accuse him of knowing about a plot against Vargas by the first lady. Then they put him on a table that has a nice feature: a table saw. It starts up and is heading for his wrist. Just then the lights come on. You were right, Juanita, Danilo was grabbed up by General Garrido.
As usual Ernie gives the orders. He says that they’ll surround the house. No one is to do anything without his orders. [He should just get a recording of this phrase and play it every time he surrounds Teresa and doesn’t catch her.]
Teresa and Karen talk. “How can you be sure the others still have their keys?" Karen replies that there was a note in her key saying that the three Jinetes would receive word to meet the White Horseman at a date and time he had chosen. But before the day arrived “they” killed the White Horseman.
#28 – Parte 2 de 3
Pablo asks what was the information that the White Horseman solid. Karen replies that it was secrets of important people and also information that favored the business interests of one Uriel. He’s protected by the DEA and by the woman who gives orders to the White Horseman. Teresa figures it out. “The woman is Senator Kozar.” Karen agrees. Once she heard the White Horseman mention her. But somehow they had a falling out, and he decided to blackmail her. He gathered up all the proof and hid it. Then he gave us the keys. Teresa asks why he chose Karen, and why did she want to help him. Karen replies that she doesn’t know why he chose them. But for her it represented a job for which she was well paid.
General Garrido tells Danilo that Alcalá and Vanesa were killed, and Epifanio Vargas gave the order. He goes on to say that he was with Antonio when Vanesa called him about their meeting. When Danilo asks why Vanesa would have made that call, Garrido opines that she was found out and ordered to set up Alcalá. Vanesa gave information about Vargas to Antonio…for money. Danilo asks what he has to do with all this.
Garrido tells Danilo that Antonio was his friend and he considers it his duty to help his daughter. At the funeral she told him that Danilo was the only person she trusted. Garrido says that he needed to be sure. He’s certain Danilo would have told his men the truth rather than have his hand cut off. When Danilo asks why they didn’t just investigate him, Garrido replies that they absolutely did. They know everything about him, including his relationship with Alejandro Alcalá. Danilo seems convinced and asks what he has to do.
Epifanio talks to Montuño about whether Alcalá had anything that was on personal cameras. He’s told that the guy just went to the club and then went home, with the exception of meeting with politicos they already were watching. I’m a bit unclear about what Epi wanted to find out after the guy is already dead. The only thing Montuño found out was that Alcalá went to Washington, D.C., once and came back to Mexico the next day. Epi assumes he went to see Senator Kozar.
Our Colombian crew are waiting for a plane. Paloma is shocked by the small size of the landing strip. And Mateo is afraid. He’s never flown. Faustino doesn’t tell his friend who they’ll be meeting with at their destination. [Guess he’s decided: once burned, twice shy about old friends.] He hands over the usual bundles of cash. We see the plane fly over.
About a dozen guys in bulletproof vests are approaching the house where Teresa and Karen are still talking. Ernie has some fancy earphones and a big antenna, with which he can hear inside the cabin (of course he does!). Teresa tells Karen that they need more information about the others in order to find them. “I want the proof! Nothing you’ve told us helps!” Sierra recognizes Karen. Karen: “How did you know I was the Jinete Negro?” Ernie and Charlie overhear this and learn that there’s two more Horsemen.
Garrido urges Danilo to find a way to meet with the first lady before she ends up going crazy. We then see Danilo convince Susana to let him see her.
#28 – Parte 3 de 3
Abel snarls at Rojas about his gold. Rojas replies that he, of course, wanted the gold. But he also wanted to put Abel in a cell for the rest of his life. Jonathan comes downstairs to tell them to shut it. Then he sees movement in the bushes. He goes up a couple of floors and uses binoculars to see the lurking cops.
Ernie and Charlie notice that Our Team has seen them. Ernie says “Change of plans. We have to kill them.” Charlie objects. Ernie tells him that the Black Horseman doesn’t know anything nor does Teresa Mendoza. “If they don’t know anything and we don’t, then nobody knows. With them dead, the problem is solved, forever.”
As they’re trying to flee, Karen says that if Freddy doesn’t come there’s no deal. As the cops approach, Abel calls for help. Lots of shots, even from automatic rifles. Karen frees Rojas; but, when he rises, he’s shot dead. The group goes downstairs and into a secret room below the cellar. Abel tells Ernie about the room below. Of course the door leading outside is padlocked and we see Pablo struggle with it for a while, hitting it with a gold ingot.
At last Our Team gets out, shooting some cops on the way out. We hear Ernie swearing in frustration, always music to my ears. And, as usual, lots of shots are fired and no one is hit, with one exception. Karen trips, Jonathan helps her up, and Ernie shoots her in the back, killing her. Our Team double up on two motorcycles brought by the cops and ride off. Ernie and Charlie go after them in a police car, lights and siren.
Bebita is drinking and crying. Danilo tells her that General Garrido wants to help her. And he also wants to help her. She says that she only wants her son. Danilo admits he can’t do that for her. [I’m starting to think that Bebita needs to pull up her socks and starting trying to outwit Epi.] Susana warns Danilo and he is encountered by Epi. Danilo makes up some BS about wanting to take some campaign photos with Epi and his son as an excuse for being caught in the family quarters.
There’s a road chase, and Ernie yells at the driver of the police car to step on it. Charlie keeps leaning out the back window and firing. [My fingers are crossed when Oleg and Teresa both fire at him. But he seems to live a charmed life.] Oleg recognizes him as the guy who got his wife killed. One of the shots hits the driver of the police car and the car crashes into the side of the road. Our evil DEA twosome don’t care a rat’s patootie about the La Paz policemen. They leave Sierra with the wounded guy. Sierra calls for backup. [Are there any more cops left in Bolivia?]
Jonathan insists on the others going ahead, saying they don’t have weapons and he does. Pablo, Teresa and Oleg run up the hill. Jonathan stands in the road firing at the approaching car. He’s hit. After they get out of the car, Charlie yells at him that he used to be DEA and now he’ll rot in jail. But Jonathan, with blood coming from his mouth, points his finger at his temple. Ernie finishes him off.
Teresa remembers the scene a few episodes ago when Jonathan stopped the dripping faucet. He talks about perhaps living a normal, boring life. The two of them had such a warm moment together that time.
They show Sheila and Batman leaving somewhere and looking sad. Not sure if this means they know about Jonathan or what is causing them to appear sad.
Our Team have found some house and a car. Pablo hotwires the car and off they go. Teresa is crying. Later they put a Molotov cocktail into the car and blow it up. [Did Oleg learn this in Russia?]
Novelera: I'm assuming you've got my message from yesterday about the return of "EDSLC" for 8th Season ?
Steve Boudreaux
This was a splendid recap, novelera! Thanks so much. Enjoyed and agreed with your asides, too. Love your little Spanish lessons.
“More horsemen?”—that’s what I said. Now I know what that thing is that rises from the ground in the opening credits—keys to the (White) Horseman’s info. Guess we’re going to Argentina and Peru soon.
I wasn’t sure if Ernie and Charlie heard about the other Horsemen. At one point their reception dropped out. They seemed to think if they killed Our Team (thanks, Juanita) and Karen that would be the end of it.
I think Epi wants to find out about anyone that had any contact with Alcalá. He’s got Montaño investigating everyone and their brother.
ITA, Karen’s greed and thirst for revenge did her in and she took Rojas down with her. No big loss. I do feel sorry for Sierra being mixed up with this.
Another heartbreaking death. Can’t trust these writers to spare anyone on our side. Because they have Fedor, Jon became unnecessary? I think Jon was shot in the initial getaway. Looked like he touched his back and had blood on his hand. So maybe he thought he would only be a drag on the group and wouldn’t make it anyway so he sacrificed himself. QEPD, Jonathan.
Nice win by the USMNT. Hope Pulisic is back for the Saturday match against Netherlands. Nicer win by Michigan last Saturday at The Shoe.
Thanks, deb, for letting us know, when ESLDC is returning which also lets us know when LRDS3 is ending.
Steve, I’ll probably tune in on occasion to keep the body count up to date. It left off on a huge cliffhanger. Many major characters overdosing on Fentanyl and only enough Narcan for a few.
I don’t know why, but I watched the first two eps of Amor y Traicion. There was Akın with the wet bangs doing his Miran thing. A turn off for me from the start. If there is interest on the patio I might continue to watch along with you. I won’t recap but I’ll comment if there’s a discussion. BTW, this dizi (Kaderimin Oyunu - The Game of My Destiny) is on YouTube with English subtitles.
Thanks VERY much, novelera, for a terrific recap! You noticed a number of things I missed, and helped clarify some things I found confusing.
I know it was said that the information was sold through the girls, but I'm still not totally clear about how that was done.
Ah, so one of the remaining horsemen is in Argentina and the other in Peru. And it just so happens that Faustino et al. are now in Peru.
Well, I guess my initial thought/hope that Danilo was grabbed by the General's men turned out to be true, but probably no one was more surprised than I was! Obviously, the General is not someone to mess with. I gotta say, if the General knew everything about Danilo, including his association with Alcalá, did he really need to subject Danilo to such gross treatment?
Novelera, I loved your "[He (Ernie) should just get a recording of this phrase and play it every time he surrounds Teresa and doesn’t catch her.]"
I was happy to see Susana helping Danilo. I think she's now almost completely fed up with Epi and his treatment of Bebita. I was also glad to see Danilo think so fast on his feet when Epi came upon him in the family quarters.
Apparently both Charlie and Ernie resent Jonathan's turning against the DEA. When Ernie shoots him, he calls him a traitor.
I like dondi356's explanation of why Jonathan was killed off (Fedor now has the techie role), but I really felt sad, and especially when they showed Teresa's flashbacks to happier times with him.
I too was somewhat puzzled by the sadness of Batman and Sheila. I'm assuming somehow one of Our Team informed them of Jonathan's death.
I was also a bit confused by how Our Team suddenly stumbled upon a house and a car in the midst of the jungle. Oh well....
always a pleasure to read your recaps novelera!
so the Highway of Death in Yungas even has it's own web sites!
I think Faustino's contact said the kids were listed as wanted by Interpol.
my take on the girls Juanita is that they recorded their sessions with selected contacts and the information obtained was sold by Karen and Perro, I guess Abel (with his cane) was just in on the money for sex part, btw I think Tatiana went back to the truck with Perros body to get HIS phone which she used to call her mother so I still fear for the girls.
I'm glad the horseman thingy is getting sorted out somewhat, from the shape of the keys, will it lead to some raiders of the ark lost temple.
Dondi356: Safe to say El Capo will be targeted by Aurelio Casillas & Co., in the 8th Season.
I noticed Jaime Rosales (BPN 2.0) will be back. Wouldn't be shocked if he's President of Mexico.
Steve Boudreaux
deb, I too originally thought Tatiana must have taken Perro's phone, but I wasn't sure, so (since I was writing the recap) I went back over that scene several times, and I really think I saw her take the phone from her front pocket and then put it back there after she was done. I also tried to figure out what she did when she crouched down next to Perro's body with her phone out. I kept looking to see if somehow she took the phone at that time from him. I didn't see that, but I also didn't see anything else she might have. It almost looked as if she was aiming the phone at his mid-section, but that didn't make any sense (esp. since he was dressed :-) ). Having said all this, I do think your statement that she took his phone makes the most sense--I just couldn't confirm that when I went back to check before posting the recap.
Dondi, a Michigan fan? I am 4th generation born in Ohio. We come into this world with Ohio State fan genes somehow coursing through our bloodstreams. I will be a Buckeye until I leave this world. I even collected beautiful buckeyes as a child. My grandmother had a tree in her front yard. I love the Ohio State mascot, a guy with a buckeye for a head. I was NOT happy with the result at The Shoe, especially since we had Jim Harbaugh for a while as the SF 49ers coach. He's a world-class jerk.
Thanks for all the terrific comments. Dondi, I thought Ernie did hear about the other two horsemen. It was confusing when their wonderful antenna appeared to malfunction. I am certainly not going to go back and listen to the scene again. However, even if they did hear all of it, killing Teresa and Karen would have left the other two Horsemen without the third key and so his plan for killing everyone in the house would have worked for him in either case. I do not think he knows Teresa has that key. If you are correct, and they didn't hear it, that's all the more reason to kill everyone.
Juanita, I do remember Tatiana slipping the phone in her pocket. She used it to contact her mother and it would have made sense to keep it. It's valuable to a poor girl, and she will probably want further conversations with her mother about where to meet up, etc. But, unless Abel gets back on his feet and then finds Perro's corpse, I can't see how he'd know to trace the location of the phone. They showed him depending on Karen to read emails and/or texts. But I did worry about it at the time. I think Ernie actually had a bit of mercy toward Jonathan. Jonathan asked for the kill shot. Ernie, in his role as the jefe, should have taken him to a hospital so he'd be prosecuted. Charlie, of course, only cares about vengeance. Ernie said that to Charlie about Jonathan being a traitor to justify his actions.
deb, again it's so nice to "see" you here. I agree that somehow the corrupt officials and wealthy people must have been "spending time" with the young Bolivian girls. And there were audio and/or video recordings of their activities.
Thanks, Novelera. Super job.
Jonathan was one of my favorites. He was so scrappy and always kept his sense of humor. I figured one of Our Team wouldn't survive but didn't think it would happen so soon.
Dondi, ITA Jonathan knew he was a goner from the hit he took before everyone left, so he sacrificed himself.
Ernie actually did a good thing complying with Jonathan's request for him to shoot him in the head.
Hmmm, more than one horseman and each has a key. And now Teresa is wearing one of the keys, so perhaps she will fool a horseman or two into thinking she's a horseman too.
Poor Danilo. His great white collar job has put him in a hornet's nest.
Yes, novelera, a Michigan fan. I know you're from Ohio and I just couldn't resist. You've had the upper hand for quite a while, deservedly so.
My daughter played soccer at Michigan, her dream school, and dated a football player while there. I went to one game at The Big House. I suppose a game at The Shoe is as intense.
Guessing a coach can get away with being a "world-class jerk" as long as he is successful. There are plenty of those jerks on college sidelines.
I totally understand where you are coming from and I respect that. Whatever the outcome, The Game is one of the best rivalries in all of sports.
novelera, I'm not really doubting what you wrote regarding what the evil DEA heard. I'm just a bit confused on what they didn't hear and if it makes a difference. It would make sense for them to hear about the other Horsemen, since Teresa got away and now the chase can continue in Argentina and Bolivia.
I was thinking about Perro's phone, too. The fact that Tatiana took it must have an implication. There must be some valuable info stored on it or it can be traced. We still don't know what happened to the girls.
deb, I took a look at the Highway of Death, too. The most dangerous in the world! lol--"raiders of the ark lost temple"
It's going to take a while for me to get over Jonathan.
I won't be home until late tonight, so I won't be able to watch tonight's episode and offer any sort of account. It would be great if someone would volunteer to put something up about tonight's episode. Even just a few paragraphs would be very helpful.
#1 – Page 1 of 2
Might as well put this up. I took some notes Monday night and was too tired to post anything. Last night I recapped, La Reina 3. Since I bothered to write notes I might as well put it up. Don’t know if anyone is watching this.
Asiye calls her husband. Her second child, a boy, has just been born. Her young daughter is by her bedside. The husband, Cemal, isn’t picking up.
Seven Years Later Asiye is shown catching a bus to her job in a clothing factory. Her daughter comes shortly after she’s begun work asking for money. The electric bill has to be paid. The daughter, Nergis, is 15. Seems like they’re one step ahead of a shutoff.
Later we see Asiye coming home and finding her children traumatized. [These dizis love flashbacks. I find it annoying, but I’m used to it. Half the stories are told going back in time.]
Time goes back and we see Asiye’s son, Ugur, watching soccer on a neighbor’s television. I suspect Asiye may not have one. Earlier on something is said about the factory being behind paying the employees. The boy coughs. When his sister, Nergis, comes to get him, the two young men also watching the soccer match say that Nergis is quite pretty.
When Nergis goes across the street to her house, the son of the mother who owns that house follows her, forces his way in, and tries to “smell” her. There’s a struggle and, defending herself, Nergis stabs the guy.
Back to when Asiye comes home. She tells Nergis to call the police; she’ll say that she was the one who stabbed him. There’s some discussion, and they end up fleeing in the miscreant’s car.
On the way to Edirne, where Asiye has some family, they stop at a restaurant. As we saw earlier on, Asiye gave all her money to Nergis to keep the electricity on. They eat in the restaurant. She tells the kids to go to the car while she pays and then tries to sneak away without paying. The owner stops her. When she shows him her empty wallet, he takes pity on her. The food is comped and he even gives her some money.
But when Nergis and her mother go to the bathroom, they leave Asiye’s purse with Ugur.
A man arrives at the restaurant. His name is Mahir, and he’s driving home to Istanbul from Russia, where’s been for 17 years. He sees the incident where Asiye and her children discover that Asiye’s wallet is missing from her purse because Ugur was careless. He offers to take them to Edirne, on his way to Istanbul. Asiye probably would not have gone with him comfortably, but she has seen that the police have found the car she stole from the man who was stabbed.
The kind man says that his name is Mahir. He introduces himself as do Asiye and the children. All is well, and everyone except Mahir falls asleep. A tractor trailer seems to cross the highway and hit them head on.

The next scene is in a hospital. Ugur is on oxygen. The doctor has some things to day about Ugur’s bad lungs, a topic I’m sure will come up again.
When the police come with questions for Asiye and her children about the accident, Asiye has no identification because her wallet was stolen. However, she says it was lost in the accident. They assume she’s Mahir’s wife.
Mahir’s brother (Fikret) shows up. When the police ask why he doesn’t recognize his sister-in-law, he says that his brother has been away for 17 years. The brother is as nice as Mahir and delighted to have a nice and a nephew. We also meet Fikret’s wife, Gulsum. {I may be misspelling some of these names.]
Asiye tells the children that they wouldn’t have been able to stay in Edirne anyway. Mahir’s mother lovingly embraces the three. We find out that Mahir is in the ICU, unconscious.
I believe Fikret stays with his brother and mother at the hospital. Asiye drives Gulsum and her children to where the family lives in Istanbul. They live in a smaller house next to a big mansion.
Later on Asiye goes into the mansion to help Gulsum with dinner for the rich family. Gulsum tells Asiye that her mother-in-law has worked for the rich family for 40 years. We see a boy around Nergis’ age at the house. I assume he’s the son of the family living in the mansion.
Asiye is introduced to Harun, the owner of the mansion. [He’s played by the actor who was Cesur’s friend and accomplice in Amor Valiente.] He seems to be a kind man. There’s a woman there who may be Harun’s wife, but I don’t remember her being introduced at all. She seems startled and concerned that Mahir has returned. Something is definitely going on there. Harun is surprised that Mahir is married and with children.
Asiye is in the kitchen with Gulsum, who fills her in on Harun having built the mansion. She says that Harun has two children, Raci (male, I think) and Helin, whose husband runs a hotel in Antalya.
When Asiye excuses herself to check on her children at the small, servant’s house, we see a man arrive with his wife and son. Gulsum had mentioned this couple in the kitchen. The man, whose name I don’t know yet, helps his wife and small son out of the car. It’s Cemal, Asiye’s missing husband. I don’t know if he’s still calling himself Cemal. Asiye spies him and freezes. He also sees her.
We get another flashback to Asiye’s phone call with Cemal. He’s in a taxi, apparently drives one, and tells her he can’t cope.
Nergis comes out of the smaller house, spies him, says “Papa!” and faints.
Esconderse no es una opción, #3/29
Tesa's entire team comes together in a train shop in Viacha, Bolivia. (each with their own personal worlds, how did Mateo like the flight, Batman wants a baby, Sofia and Tesa talk boyfriends, etc.)
time for a new plan, simple, being unknown in other countries they'll track down the remaining 2 horsemen (or women) but wait...
apparantly Tatiana used the phone to record Tesa, praising her for saving the girls, and it goes viral, say, why isn't la reina del sur in prison?
time for a change of plans,
yes her lies put me in prison, Epi says, but I haven't seen her since. (and who/what is Epi's man in DC?) (I didn't get Epi's plan for putting Teresita's crew on a leash)
and Tesa's team fragments, torn over their losses.
with Oleg moving off to a corner, Tesa vows to save Pablo's dad, with or without Epi's help (thankful for Pablo's help springing her from jail)
the ice queen Senatora and Ernie (who is just as comfortable killing in the jungle as sipping cocktails in the capital) put a bounty on Tesa's head, and... ??
short enough Juanita?
Thanks VERY much, deb, for stepping in to provide this brief but helpful account. I've just had a chance to watch the episode, and I'll try to add a few things.
I found the discussion between Teresa and Sofia interesting. Sofia wants Teresa to stop telling her what to do--"I won't meddle in your business and you won't meddle in mine." Somewhat to my surprise, Teresa simply pulls the "I'm an adult" card to explain why her relationship with Pablo is OK but 15-year-old Sofia needs Teresa's guidance. Oh well....
I'm quite mystified about all the videos that are suddenly appearing and going viral. It seems they are not all coming from Tatiana. There's the one showing the reporter who identifies TM on the video, there's one of the truck, and I think there are more. Huh?
Your account includes another of my questions. Who indeed is the guy in DC who gave Epi the photo and info about the Black Horseman? From the guy's interactions with Jane Kozar and what his office looks like, I'd guess that he's a US Senator (like Jane, though she's also much more). No name as of yet.
Epifanio again shows three of his main qualities: he's self-important, quick to anger, and quick to blame others. He's furious when people don't kow-tow to him. He blows up when the man interviewing him asks a question about Teresa Mendoza. Epi abruptly ends the interview and storms out. And after claiming that he believes in freedom of the press, Epi insists to Danilo that the interview must not be made public, and he threatens to fire Danilo if it is. He dumps on Teresa and Pablo for not getting him the evidence he wants (never mind that he gave them insufficient information).
I'm not sure what Epi thinks will be accomplished by putting a chip in everyone who doesn't already have one. He claims that Montaño will then watch all of them from Mexico, and if he discovers anything....
Teresa tells Epifanio that if he wants them to find the other horsemen, they'll need a lot more money. He tells her he'll get the money, but she has only one month in which to find the horsemen and get the evidence he wants. He then talks to Delio about calling "you-know-who" to get more money. Delio says y-k-w is unlikely to listen to him, so Epi says he'll go with Delio to a meeting with y-k-w. Delio says that's very dangerous (presumably dangerous to Epi).
And then there's the meeting between Ernie and Kozar. Apparently Kozar didn't know much until an email message from "Higgins" mentioned all the horsemen. Ernie asks Kozar to remind him what her "horseman" name is. She gives him a look that makes him immediately apologize for asking. So is she one of the horsemen? She then asks Ernie, "Are you sure Mendoza doesn't know where to find the evidence?" He replies, "As far as I know." Kozar wonders where Teresa is. Ernie replies, "We're hoping the reward will help us find her. That's the point of the reward, isn't it?" Kozar tells him "The reward is only part of what we'll do--what you'll do--when we find her. Vargas isn't going to simply sit around. We need to stay one step ahead of him." Ernie asks her, "What do you have in mind?" She gives him an evil smile as the episode ends.
Thanks a MILLION, deb, for putting up a short one! Yes, that's plenty to get the conversation started.
I suppose it was grief over Jonathan's death, but the gathering of the whole gang didn't seem as joyful as I would have expected.
It's kind of funny watching Teresa trying to justify her multiple bad choices in boyfriends to her daughter. She thinks Sofia is too young for a serious relationship, and I (a mother) agree. It was also interesting that Sofia was willing to forgive Lupo and thought her mother should have had him come to Australia with them.
I'm over Oleg being jealous. I thought the writers did a good job with the conversation Oleg and Teresa had at the train graveyard. But now he's back to resenting Pablo and sipping from his flask.
Of course I can't come up with an exact wording of another interesting scene. But Fedor said something to Sofia that made me think he's not totally on board with Teresa.
deb, the guy that Epi speaks Spanish to over the phone and who was, I think, the mastermind behind the "spring Teresa Mendoza from prison" plan is another U.S. Senator. I didn't catch his name, but he's wanting to put a spoke in Jane Kozar's wheel for sure.
I think we're in for some Teresa disguises to help avoid anyone collection that $5 million bounty.
I knew it! While I'm typing my thoughts, Juanita beat me to the punch with a much better comment!
While watching the Senator and Epifanio Vargas on the phone, I was wondering if they were thinking of California's U.S. Senator, the bilingual Alex Padilla. Not that our Senator is shifty like this guy, but he could certainly have a conversation, in Spanish, with President López-Obrador of Mexico.
Thank you Juanita, Novelera and Deb for this weeks recaps..
Juanita, when Tatiana bent towards El Perros body with the cellphone, it was because she wanted to use his fingerprint to unlock it, which she did. When she went back to the truck, she already had the cellphone. She just wanted to unlock it. I think she took it when they were all in the truck before reaching the woods, there were a lot of girls in the back, Teresa and her people were also there. With El Perro wounded, and that many people, no one would have noticed her stealing it.
Wow, Sheila, what a way to tell someone you're pregnant.
So the guy from the 1st episode is also a US senator. And was the one who gave Epifanio info about El Ginete Negro? I must've missed that part.
Teresa is betting it all on Pablo. She even says they'll get his dad out of prison.
The 2nd video was a reaction (reply) to Tatianas video, which went viral. I didn't understand where the 3rd video came from
Loved the little talk between Sofia and Fedor.
Fedor planted another seed of doubt in Oleg when he said that Teresa trust Pablo more than him(Oleg) or anyone else in the group.
Other than making sure the interview is not aired. Epifanio wants Danilo to make it the official version that the ONLY time he met Teresita Mendoza is when she testified against him. And if he's (Danilo) asked if he ever met her, he's to say that Never! We all know that isn't true.
"Estoy Mas perdida que un sordo en una misa"
Hadn't heard that before. Sheila said that in regards to her pregnancy
I'll do a short recap for Thur, tonight.
Thanks so much, mwendwaE, for your excellent comment and for offering to recap tonight.
Yes, the video Fedor found on his laptop was of some blogger, I think. He's one of those "influencers" that seem to be all over the place these days. He saw the video Tatiana took and then sent it to ALL his followers. I really hate this stuff about "going viral" these days. It seems people can't make a mistake or a misstatement in public any more without everyone knowing about it.
At least searching my memory (faulty sometimes) last night was the first time the U.S. Senator who's working with Epifanio Vargas was shown.
Novelera, on Ep1. Montaño brought a package to Epi and he said it was the only thing he found in the locker. In the package was a phone, that Epifanio used to call the senator. He asked if Epifanio had received the info, and that was the only info available, but was enough to start. He was a casually dressed on Ep1 though
Deb, your summary saved the day. You clarified what in the dickens is going. Gracias.
Juanita, Novelera, mwendwaE, thanks for your additions.
Glad Sofia spoke up and said Teresa trusts know one more than Oleg when Fedor said Teresa was leaning most on Pablo.
This is like Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work day with Sofia, Fedor, and (rightfully staying mum) Mateo in on the planning.
Sheila looking for a sign on whether she should have the baby or not? I'd say that her not seeking those special TN teas that cause miscarriage means she'll have the baby.
mwendwaE, thanks very much for clarifying some of the things that I found puzzling. I found especially helpful your explanation of how/when/why Tatiana got El Perro's cellphone.
Loved your comment about Sheila's announcement of her pregnancy. And I too enjoyed the "little talk" between Sofia and Fedor.
Thanks for pointing out that when Epi told Danilo that he hadn't seen Teresa since she testified against him 14 years ago, he was also ordering Danilo to MAKE THAT the official version.
I'm afraid Sheila's "Estoy Mas perdida que un sordo en una misa" went right by me. It seems a bit strange to me. I'm not Catholic, but I was under the impression that the Mass tends to follow a predictable order, so that even if someone were deaf, s/he would be able to follow it. Hmmm, perhaps I've got that wrong.
Finally, thanks very much for offering to do tonight's recap!
