Notes from the couch . . .
This episode was a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
THE MAIN EVENT
The action starts with a flashback where Iván is meeting with Cinthia and meeting his son. She tells him that she contacted him because she needs his help. No, he hasn't told anyone about his son yet. She suggests they get a DNA test to make sure Iván is his.
The results from the DNA test come in and Denis is Ester's grandson. Ester gives Cinthia some money to buy a few things for herself. She leaves. Ester takes Dani over to see Max and when she comes back before going to the grand opening of the food truck, she discovers that Cinthia and her belongings are long gone. Cinthia sends Ester a text. She is confident that she has left Denis in the best hands she could have and that Ester will give him everything he needs.
Interesting that in the midst of all of his, Max feels it necessary to stick it to Ester about getting on his case about not being closer to Iván and not telling him about the birds and the bees and protection a few years earlier. He supposes that she did and what good did it do? She always talked about how close she and Iván were and he didn't even trust her enough to tell her he was a father. Ester admits that that is what hurts. It is hard to accept that Margarita knew about his son and not her.
BEST SCENE
Gina lets Ana Sofí in and the fight is on. Ana Sofía threatens to sue her for taking and using her passwords. Gina threatens to sue her for exporting her and not paying her. Ana Sofí makes a comment about how poor Gina is. Gina says at least she doesn't live off of others like Ans Sofí. Ana Sofí accuses her of doing the same thing trying to be like her. That will never happen because she has money, power and connections. She threatens Gina again if she doesn't return control of her social network accounts. Gina solves that problem by canceling every one of her social network accounts in front of her eyes. Gina tells her she is canceled, deleted, nothing. Ana Sofí tries to scratch up her face but Gina is on guard. She declares she is from the barrio and the barrio will always back her. Ana Sofí better not get into it with her or she will be leaving on crutches and without her hair extensions. Ana Sofí accuses Gina of wanting to rob her career like her sister robbed her novio. As she storms out, she informs Gina that she doesn't have hair extensions! (LOVED IT!)
Interesting that later, Ana Sofí stops by Angel's to try to poison his mind against Julia insetting that she had to be Misaels's accomplice.
THE REST
-Julia asks Misael if he could be Rayo's dad. He says he never was involved with Margarita. He cannot understand on what basis she would-be asking him that. She calls him shameless knowing that he was cheating on her. He doesn't see it that way. He admits to having messed around but he never left her. She is the love of his life. He warns her that if he is in danger, they all are in danger. She cannot talk about him to anyone. He takes a DNA test. A couple of days later, the DNA test comes back and he is not Rayo's father. She asks Misael where he is planning on living when he is discharged, with one of his girlfriends??? He looks shocked. He insists he only wants to be with her. She is not interested. He asks if she hasn't just recently gotten involved with a another guy.
-Angel searches for his mother's wedding rings in her room as Rayo hides in the closet. He finds the rings in a drawer. While he is there, he remembers talking to his mother 12 years earlier about how angry he was that his father cheated on her. She deserved so much better. She appreciated his concern but she knew that his father was always a flirt and they were married in church so it was until death do they part. Angel reminded her that his father broke their vows. His mother made it clear that she was happy with her life with his father. Angel needed to learn how to respect his father. As Angel complained, she told him to shut up. She didn't want to hear anymore. He had no reason to resent his father. Angel tells Homero where he found the rings. Homero denies putting them there. Nobody believes him. Angel makes Mirna apologize for accusing Armando. Later, Rayo finds letters from Angel's mother to Homero. Angel's mother is sad about his affairs but recognizes that is the kind man he is and won't be changing.
-Braulio is interested in buying a new house. Celeste is worried they do not have enough money. They used the down payment money they had saved for her fertility treatments. He tells her to let him take care of it. She doesn't look very confident that is going to happen or how???
-After being shut out by Julia for a few days, Angel calls Julia and finally she answers. They agree to meet later that day. Julia wasn't smiling.
-Lenar tells Adair that he is a minor and cannot work on Jero's food truck. Donato tries to argue his side and Lenar tells him to keep out of her discussions with her sons. Later, Jero tries to talk Lenar into Adair working with him. Again, Donato tries to support Adair and Lenar tells him to butt out because he is not the boys' father. Jero stands up for Donato saying that he was an important father figure for the boys for years and if he has an opinion, it would be for the good for their sons. Lenar gets to the grand opening of the food truck early to talk to Jero. She tells him that she has been thinking about a lot of things lately and she feels like she made a mistake: Donato. (Really???)
-Rayo texts Mati about the ring incident and how stealing things isn't going to work for her. Mati insists that she steal things that are less conspicuous. Rayo asks where Mati is. She says she is on the street. She got home and her father wanted her to play maid so she left. Mati says they have to get money for Leonel. He didn't give their names up to the police so nobody is looking for them. As Rayo is getting food one night, she does not realize that Homero is watching her and smiling from the top of the stairs.
-Zac explains to Santino that they almost had caught Misael and then if was as if the earth swallowed him up. Santino is not pleased calling Zac and his guys idiots. Zac confirms that they are following the Miranda family members but at a distance. Santino is sure Julia must know something. Zac says the only odd thing that has happened was that Anas Sofí visited the Miranda house.
That is it for tonight. Please feel free to add anything I left out.
Back to Dani asking Memo if he thought this would be easy for her to find out after what happened…. And Falso demanding to know after what happened?
Amparo is crying on Papi’s shoulder, she is heartbroken and second guessing herself for kicking Macario out. What if it’s a mistake?
Memo asks Dani if she remembers the day he came and told her he had something really important to tell her? He was going to tell her then but Isa got hurt and was in the hospital. It was the wrong time to reveal such a big thing, Memo was waiting for Isa to recover. Falso says that’s just a convenient excuse but Dani looked like she believed him or at least wanted to believe. Memo swears to Dani that it’s true and Falso yells at Memo to stop referring to Dani as ‘tu’ and tells Dani not to listen to this or let Memo lie to her. Dani puts a hand up to stop Falso and asks Memo to tell her the truth, what are his intentions? Did he come to take Isa from them? Because she is capable of anything when it comes to defending her daughter. Memo says never, he would never separate Isa from her! So, was it that easy to make a fool out of me? She tells him he has no idea how betrayed she feels and she warns him she’s not as naïve as he thinks. Memo says the only thing he wants is for Isa to one day know the truth and to learn about her parentage. Falso screams NEVER! Before Dani can respond. He switches tactics and claims Memo is lying and he won’t involve Isa in that. Anyone can get a fake DNA test. Memo quickly agrees to take another test anytime they want but Dani says she won’t expose Isa to that. Falso yells at Memo to leave before things get worse.
Amparo worries about how the separation will affect her kids, especially Chema. Will he blame her? Dad tries to reassure her that things happen and Chema is smart if she explains, he’ll understand. Humberto finally decides to try and cheer his daughter up. Technically he shouldn’t say anything without Memo’s permission but Amparo is so sad he’ll tell her! And just as he’s about to tell her that Ursula is pregnant, Amparo guesses dad finally found out Isa is Memo’s daughter and drops that bombshell on daddy instead!
Memo repeats he doesn’t want to take Isa, he just wants her to know the truth. Falso repeats never and Dani says what does he know about the truth, he’s a complete liar!!! Falso says a bunch more crap and the bottom line is Memo will never be allowed close to Isa. Dani’s final words are less harsh, it’s something we will decide together, she says, meaning her and Falso. They tell Memo to leave.
Memo leaves and goes out to Isa’s playhouse where he sits and cries wondering if he’ll ever see his daughter again.
Eugenio is examining Amparo’s pictures very closely and Karen comes in and gives him a hard time. Eugenio talks all about cooking and wanting to help hard working people when he can, but Karen isn’t fooled. She asks if Daddy likes Amparo. Eugenio says she’s very beautiful but she’s married and married equals case closed!! He’s not the type of person who would get in the middle of a marriage, and he’s not even going to wonder what if (Good for him!) because it does no good to ponder possibilities that don’t exist. Karen says she’s the type of person who believes all is fair in love and war. Dad gives Karen lots of advice about avoiding that situation which is both too late and falling on deaf ears. Karen can tell her dad really admires Amparo and she just warns him to be careful, she wouldn’t want anyone to play daddy for a fool or use him for his money.
Humberto is hurt that Memo didn’t trust him enough to tell him the truth but Amparo encourages him to think of how hard it must be for Memo to learn all this and understand that sometimes it’s easier to tell a sibling than a parent. Humberto acknowledges this and asks when Memo is going to tell Isa’s parents and Amparo says any day now. Amparo is worried about how they will react but she’s hoping Dani will understand since she seems like a good person. Falso on the other hand, is the devil.
Memo is at his thinking spot still crying and remembering the first time he met Isa.
Sebas is ordering some fresh veggies from a vendor and this is like a commercial for some mobile pay app! We are all so impressed that the vendor can send an invoice and Sebas pay it just like that! LOL Sebas is excited about the portobellos and everything else as he’s planning for a meal for Lupita.
Macario shows up at his amante (Yolanda’s) house and she perfumes up so he can kiss it all off…. Tacky tacky
Sebas is chatting with daddy and spilling all the tea about Macario being the one responsible for the restaurant closure. Eugenio asks some questions and it’s not lost on Sebas that dad is too interested in the subject. Sebas says he and Lupita are just becoming friends again and obviously he’s not going to ask her a bunch of questions about her parents. Eugenio advises him not to leave Lupita alone, she’ll need a friend in a time like this. Sebas says no worries, there’s no way he would abandon Lupita. Sebas is off to make lunch for Lupita but can’t resist ribbing daddy on his way out about him being this way ‘at his age’. Eugenio tries to deny but after Sebas walks out Eugenio says to himself ‘Amparo is separated’. (This scene felt oddly out of place considering the last time we saw Eugenio and Sebas in the same room they were yelling and at each other’s throats but these two are cute together in this laid back and playful mood)
Sebas brings Lupita to his house and she’s surprised that he’s going to cook! He makes it clear he knows how to cook – she’ll even get desert and get back to school; he too has to go back to work. She’s surprised he’s taking work seriously and it appears Sebas found passion in his work – he goes on and on about a project he’s working on to present to his dad. He’s so excited, he thinks about it every day. Well, that and… he walks closer and Lupita tells him not to start. Sebas backs off immediately, okay lunch and desert and nothing else. He tells her to make herself at home and listen to music if she’d like, he’s off to cook. As soon as Sebas leaves the room, Lupita pulls out a compact to check her face. Sebas returns to make sure there’s nothing she doesn’t eat and she hides the compact quickly. Alone again, she says to herself, ‘what am I doing?’
Amparo and Humberto go back into the restaurant and Eugenio is already there!!! (LMAO Sebas obviously got his patience from daddy) He asks for a couple of minutes to talk to Amparo. Amparo is thrilled to see Eugenio but Humberto looks like he knows exactly what’s up.
Yolanda is waiting on Macario hand and foot when Grace arrives and definitely doesn’t want to greet Mac. Mom and daughter start fighting and big surprise, (to no one at all) Mac is Grace’s father! Grace isn’t impressed by that argument. That man never gave me his name or anything else, he isn’t my dad. I don’t have a dad. Yolanda slaps Grace twice and tells her to respect Mac but Grace just points out how sad her mom is waiting on a man who has always treated her like second best and will always treat her like second best.
Dani and Falso are now alone in their bedroom. Dani is still in shock while Falso is just ranting and raving. Dani is thinking through the relationship with Memo and Isa and Memo’s family and Isa saying now it all makes sense. Falso is just chanting off they lied, he lied, everything is a lie… It’s kind of funny listen to him talk about how his daughter should never have had anything to do with people like ‘them’ when she’s a part of their family and thus one of ‘them’. Dani thinks back to her conversation with Memo about her feelings and says ‘he was just using me’. Falso says Memo can never come back to this house or see Isa. He tells Dani to remember the only thing Memo wants is take their daughter from them! Dani looks alarmed as Falso continues and ‘guesses’ again that Memo probably even tried to seduce you. Good thing you were too smart to fall for it! (Eyes rolling, I really hate this fool, it’s hard to listen to him much less report back his nonsense.) It’s almost time for Isa to get out of school and Falso suggests they go get her together.
Eugenio lets Amparo know he heard about Mac and he’s there to offer his friendship unconditionally. Amparo appreciates it but the problems of a couple belong to a couple. They change the subject to the book and Eugenio has another idea. What if they hold the book launch right there in the restaurant that inspired all the recipes? Amparo loves the idea! She offers Eugenio one of her specialties and Eugenio is thrilled to accept. Amparo goes off to the kitchen and Eugenio turns with a huge smile to find the unsmiling eyes of Humberto who has been watching carefully.
More of the same fight between Yolanda and Grace, and I couldn’t really understand much of what Grace was saying because of her crying. It was the same jist as above though. She isn’t going to accept Mac as a father and her mom shouldn’t keep kidding herself either. The facial expressions of Macario as he’s listening intently and then trying not to listen in turn, were kind of funny. How sad to see the man who’s only redeeming quality up to this point, was his love for his children display absolutely no concern for this child!
Turns out Sebas can’t cook after all! LOL Neither does he know how to put out a tiny fire in a pan… like he says himself, EPIC FAIL! LOL Luckily for him, Lupita knows how to make ham and cheese sandwiches and as she goes to get the ingredients Sebas just stares after her with the most smitten look on his face. When asked, he tells her she’s the most beautiful girl on the planet.
Memo arrives home and asks Ursa for a minute but she doesn’t give it to him. He tells her what happened and tells her they already knew. He lets her know Falso says he overheard him and Amparo talking but he doesn’t believe it! Something tells him he’s lying, someone else told Falso and Memo is going to find out who!! (dun dun dun) Memo says Dani said they would take some time to decide whether or not to tell Isa, but what if they don’t? Memo asks with his voice nearly breaking, what if Isa never knows I’m her real father?
Dani and Falso go to pick up Isa at school with Falso pretending once again to be the perfect father. Dani hugs her daughter tight and thinks about how Isa is her whole world and she doesn’t know what she would do without her. Isa is excited to have both parents pick her up, especially since she gets the loving father today. (Sad) She’s more excited when Falso suggests they go for ice cream. Falso says almost the exact same words Dani was thinking a minute ago to Isa and as he voices the thought; the sentiment ‘You are everything to me, I couldn’t live without you’ is somehow unsettling rather than comforting as Dani’s face plainly shows.
Memo and Ursa fight about lawyer vs no lawyer again, and this is still the only point in which I agree with Ursa. Ursa mentions Dani and Falso have the money and the power. What would you do if they took Isa and left the country? Memo doesn’t want to think about it. Ursa might have been gaining ground but she goes too far and insults Dani and Memo immediately objects. Dani is Isa’s mom and she takes excellent care of her; for that she deserves respect. Memo tells Ursa to back off and let him resolve this his way.
More stupidness with Yolando and Macario. They talk about the scene with Grace for a minute and then it’s back to talking about how to spoil Mac... (Yuck) They take it to the bedroom.
Eugenio praises the food effusively and Amparo is smiling and laughing up a storm. Humberto isn’t amused and Eugenio finally takes the hint. As he leaves, he tries to pay for the food and Amparo tries to refuse the money. Humberto says let the man pay! After Eugenio walks away, Humberto tells Amparo they need to talk later and Amparo is just like, ‘about what?’ LOL Before Humberto can answer, Leo arrives with Chema. Leo wants to eat and Chema wants to know where his daddy is!
Okay, so Lupita knows how to make a sandwich bigger than your head and she and Sebas are laughing as they try to eat the monstrous sandwiches. Lupita talks a little more about her parents and Sebas makes a remark about how love doesn’t last forever. Lupita says she believes in a love that lasts a whole lifetime, even if it’s corny. Sebas says like a penguin and Lupita agrees, I’m a penguin. Sebas laughs but says he doesn’t agree there’s no couple that makes it that long. Lupita says her grandparents are like that, and when her grandma died even though grandpa was still young, he never looked at another woman. In fact, he still visits her grave every Sunday. What about you? Lupita asks. Sebas is confused and Lupita clarifies, do you visit your mother’s grave? It’s the wrong question and all levity leaves the room immediately. Lupita tries to apologize but Sebas says he doesn’t want to talk about that and when Lupita asks why he yells back ‘I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!’ Sebas is off to wait in the car as Lupita is left thunderstruck.
Dani, Falso and Isa arrive back home and Isa asks about Memo as soon as she enters the house. This is a problem! As soon as Isa is off to her room, Dani and Falso discuss, what are they going to tell her? Falso wants to make up a lie like Memo got fired for stealing but Dani says no way! She isn’t going to make up a lie like that! She doesn’t want to lie to her daughter and those aren’t the values she wants to teach her. Falso reasons that Memo lied first but Dani says they don’t have to follow his example. Falso thinks the ends justify the means in this case but Dani is an adamant NO! So Falso tells her to think of something then, because he doesn’t want his daughter to ever see Memo again.
Correction
“Gina threatens to sue her for EXPLOITING her.”
Ester got on my last nerve tonight being so upset that Iván confided in Margarita and not her. She made it all about her and not about the needs of her son.
Looks like Lenar has buyer’s remorse . . . Again.
At least Gina and Ana Sofí made me laugh.
More mañana.
There you have it. I don't know if the commercials Uni actually broadcast are different than the commercial breaks online or not, I always watch online or on the Univision app; but tonight I felt like all the action of the episode was just the stuff that happened between the Cabo commercials. They must have played that promo 15 times in an hour. I'm not sure if that's the right way to drum up interest in your new show without annoying the living daylights out of your audience!
The episode itself was mostly painful though more Sebas equaled more light hearted moments - minus his freak out over the subject of Mom coming up. It brought up a few questions in my head and I can't remember, is Sebas's mom dead? She's obviously gone but have they said for sure she's deceased? Is it possible she just abandoned the family and there is no grave to visit? When did Eugenio and Sebas patch things up? Did that happen on screen and I'm just not remembering it? Last I can remember they were not on good terms at all but they were certainly all smiles tonight.
I find it hard to believe there actually is a woman out there who after experiencing being the other woman for what, 20ish years? I'm guessing based on the age Grace looks, would still be so falling all over herself enthusiastic to see and spoil her man because he decided to actually come and visit! I mean maybe if he was a millionaire, or super hot, or I don't even know what; but Macario? A lying, drinking, gambling, dude who treats her daughter like crap? I know I know, but I left my beanie in the other room! I just find this whole scenario as strange as the idea that Karen loves Falso! They should have given Yolanda a younger child, then maybe I could believe she was still dumb enough to hold out hope, but 20 years later?? LOL
I already see glimpses of Dani wanting to believe Memo, maybe their separation won't last as long as we fear; but then there's also Ursa and her fake pregnancy to put another obstacle in the path.
Jarifa, another exciting episode which you captured with your always present insight and clarity.
“As she storms out, she informs Gina that she doesn't have hair extensions! (LOVED IT!)” as did I! Gina went toe to toe with Ana Sofi, verbally decimating her and getting in the last and best word!
Ester seemed rather confident in Denis’ DNA test results, and I was happy she was right. Jero certainly left quickly after the confirming phone call didn’t he? He is up to something.
I’m not surprised Cinthia exited, I felt she was either there to extort Ester for money or to leave Denis there. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of her.
Maximo is being childish, petulant, and mean. “She always talked about how close she and Iván were and he didn't even trust her enough to tell her he was a father. Ester admits that that is what hurts. It is hard to accept that Margarita knew about his son and not her”. Ouch. Very hurtful and spiteful.
And Lenar “feels like she made a mistake?” I will echo your “(Really???)” with arched eyebrows and a frown. He’s living with Ester and I’m sure her sons have filled her in on Flavia’s interest. She just thinks she wants what she gave up; I’ve no doubt she and Donato will end up together.
I’m not sure why Julia is choosing to freeze Angel out. Does she think Misael is just going to disappear into the night (again)? One minute she is passionately kissing him and the next ignoring him like he doesn’t exist. I felt for him and was sorry to see his mother knew about Homero’s affairs but accepted “that is the kind man he is and won't be changing”. Too bad she didn’t value herself more.
“She says she is on the street”. Mati is such a liar; she certainly wasn’t texting from any street. And she is pushing Rayo to keep stealing. I hope Homero can convince someone, anyone, that the person he is seeing is very real.
My favorite moment was Rayo in the bedroom, wearing the crown, doing the beauty pageant parade wave and then giggling. It was so good to finally see her smile.
Jarifa, this was wonderful. Thank you!
Diana
The ebb and flow of your exceptional narrative was incredible Darcy. The events took on a life of their own where anger, jealousy, passion, and love were coursing through the veins of the characters giving them life and vibrancy.
Let’s begin with the sweet. Eugenio dares to wear his heart on his sleeve. I loved that it was his children who first became aware, Sebastian smilingly unable to “…resist ribbing daddy on his way out about him being this way ‘at his age’” and Karen coming out of her selfish cocoon to notice her father attracted, seeming lighter and a bit hopeful. When “Eugenio says to himself ‘Amparo is separated” he looked noticeably lighter and daring to hope. When he arrived at the restaurant Humberto looked a bit more serious than usual (but it’s so hard to tell, isn’t it??) He had his daughter in his sights the entire time. “Amparo goes off to the kitchen and Eugenio turns with a huge smile to find the unsmiling eyes of Humberto…” had me grinning ear to ear. Humberto looked even more unhappy when Eugenio returned and had Amparo laughing away, which earned her a side stare from her father. So much fun.
Sebastian may not be able to cook (“epic failure” was adorable) but they could live on Lupita’s ginormous sammies for a week! Yes, it was a shame that the mere mention of Sebastian’s mother set him off. I think she died, but I might be wrong.
Amparo’s feelings on how Dani and Fausto will receive the news were well expressed by her statement to Humberto that she “…is worried about how they will react but she’s hoping Dani will understand since she seems like a good person. Falso on the other hand, is the devil”. I’m starting to notice a pattern here of Fausto being called Beelzebub.
And now to the sour…It was so hard watching Fausto attacking Memo who because he didn’t tell them the truth upfront really had no leg to stand on. Daniela did look like she wanted to believe Memo at several points but the hurt and pain she is experiencing won’t allow her to. And now Memo feels as though he’s lost Isa! When she and Fausto were with Isa after school, Dani looked like she wanted desperately to believe that the affection Fausto was showering on Isa was real. But she was struggling; as well she should. What devastating, emotional scenes, especially for Daniela.
I readily admit I had no idea Macario had fathered another child. That was a shock. “How sad to see the man who’s only redeeming quality up to this point, was his love for his children display absolutely no concern for this child!” was perfect and mirrored my feelings exactly Darcy! I understood almost nothing Grace said but it was obvious she detests Macario and who could blame her! I cringed when Yolanda slapped Grace. I thought Macario’s reaction of mere mild interest was chilling. But oh, so in character. BTW, I do think Yolanda is being played by Gabriela Zamora but if her name appears in the opening credits, I missed it.
Hoping Memo follows through on his (correct) hunch Fausto didn’t hear of Memo being the father in hearing Amparo talk. There, all roads lead to Ursula.
Darcy, thank you!
Diana
Diana, I agree that Cinthia’s quick exit was no surprise. She even was lying about getting a job. Now the question is, will she stay away or threaten to take her son back at some future date to milk more money out of the situation. As for Julia, I think she is trying to be respectful of Rodolfo’s desire to batten down the hatches with no angels allowed since he still isn’t sure that Angel had told them everything about Misael and the money. Then there is the threat of Misael’s attackers monitoring their family, which they are, as well as everyone’s aversion to ever getting the police involved. On a lighter note, I loved Gina telling Ana Sofí she was from the hood. They have done a good job in showing Gina and Julia as two working class women who can hold their own no matter what that comes down to. . .. even ripping out hair extensions. LOL As usual, I cannot wait until tonight!
Gracias, Jarifa. Great stuff.
We now have eliminated both Braulio and Misael from the Maury Povich Paternity Stakes but should we regard Maximo as a suspect? What is the age difference between Teo and Rayo? How long did Maximo wait to get his vasectomy? This isn't mentioned often but vasectomy patients are warned to use condoms for at least two months after the surgery because sperm in the ducts after it can live at least that long.
Based on the scene order I now think that Homero is going to win this dubious competition. We're past the hump with many secrets to unveil so I hope this one happens soon.
Lenar is a horrible hypocrite. She went after Jeronimo for "neglecting" his sons, saying that Donato was their father figure and now tells Donato to stay out of the issue of the boys working with Jeronimo. This is all about her own selfishness and her unwillingness to see her own maternal deficiencies. She should end up alone at the end, just like Flavia.
Loved Gina's dig about the hair extensions. Ana Sofi's lies and her failure to pay Gina for her work earned her Gina's revenge.
Rudolfo is understandably paranoid, but I don't believe a word of Misael's when he called Julia the love of his life. You don't cheat on anyone who deserves that title.
Angel is justifiably angry that his mother put up with Homero's adulteries.
Cinthia's actions were no surprise. I hope that Esther has learned from her mistakes in raising Ivan so she can be a better maternal figure for Denis.
Thanks, Jarifa, your notes from the couch fill in all that I miss!
I wish I was able to understand all of the exchange between Ana Sofia and Gina. Sounds like Gina was the definite winner!
I don’t want Julia to confide in Angel because I’d be worried he’d tell Braulio. We don’t trust him but Angel does. And if Santino’s men are following Julia it won’t take them long to find Misael in the hospital. I guess his men know Angel and Julia are seeing each other!
Max has really disappointed me. He’s saying things to Ester just to hurt her. Also, it looks like he’s living with Flavia again.
Count me the only one surprised that Cinthia left. I didn’t expect that.
I wonder if Homero thinks he’s imagining things or seeing a ghost. Or if he realizes there’s a real girl there. He insisted he didn’t move the rings, and doesn’t know about the keys. So he may be realizing Rayo is real!
I’m anxious for them to meet.
Now that Jero has moved on he’s looking a lot better to Lenar. But I like Donato and she needs to stick with him.
Looking forward to tonight!
Liz
Jarifa, you may well be right about Cinthia returning to threaten to take Denis back! That might partially explain the phone call Jero overheard. She's smart enough to know that Ester would never give him back due to blackmail. I hate when children are used as pawns.
"I don't believe a word of Misael's when he called Julia the love of his life"; neither do I Urban!
I can't help but feeling it might have been better if Julia had taken Angel's calls, was affectionate and spoke as though nothing was wrong simply telling him she has things to care of. I agree she shouldn't tell him but about Misael but cold shouldering him is a red flag something is seriously wrong. I agree Liz that as the family is being followed it won't take them long to find out where Misael is. What a terrible situation.
Can't wait til tonight either!!
Diana
I've been thinking about the scene between Grace and her mother with Macario sitting there like a lump.
Grace has so much anger toward her mother and her "father". But her anger was understandable and my heart went out to her! She needs to get out of there. I want her to go and live with Amparo and her half sisters and brother. Is Grace the eldest of Macario's children or is it Gaby?? I would venture to say Gaby will be not so adoring toward Macario once they learn of Grace. That said, she's been kept secret all this time so...
Diana
Great work, Darcy.
Fausto is almost a cartoon. I am wondering whether he actually believes the vile things he says about Memo; we know that all of them are lies. Is he such a snob that he has never known any working-class people his entire life? Does he have any real notion of what would constitute life-changing money? We have never heard any amount he ever offered for the Santos property and therefore no reaction, not even from Eugenio or Karen.
As for Daniela, what was her childhood like? We know nothing about her parents. Were they abusive toward her while being loving toward her brother? She had previously called Fausto out on his vile behavior so what makes this reaction different? Is it her sense of guilt at being attracted to Memo? A few episodes ago she looked smart enough to understand why Memo would not have told them off the bat that he was Isabella's bio-dad. Does she fear physical abuse from Fausto if she doesn't tow his line?
I also have to believe she knows nothing about Rudolfo's will.
Humberto may also disapprove of Eugenio due to the class and age differences between him and Amparo. (The two male actors are almost the same age IRL.)
Ursula is not playing her hand the right way. She may be trying to stir up hatred between Memo and Daniela but when she talked about trying to get custody of Isabella she probably didn't even consider how expensive such a lawsuit would be against someone with Fausto's dinero.
More bad hair coming in with Grace. Good grief!
Urban, I think Humberto's attitue toward Eugenio is primarily related to her being married but you make a good point, class and age differences are definitely peripheral factors.
"More bad hair coming in with Grace. Good grief!" Not sure why I didn't choke on my coffee Urban, that was just great...
Diana
Thank you Diana, I always appreciate your kind encouragement so much! When I said it was no surprise that Grace was Mac I meant just since the day before. I figured the second Grace and her fluorescent green eye shadow made their appearance that the 'he's your dad' reveal was coming next. Prior to this week, I would have had no suspicion Mac had another child.
I like your idea of Grace ending up with her half sisters and brother! My brother-in-law's youngest brother was the product of an affair his dad had. From the time he was super young it was clear his mother (the other woman) wasn't taking good care of him at all so my brother-in-law's mom took him in and raised him as her own son. He got to grow up with his brothers and know the love of his whole family. I'm sure it wasn't easy, but I've always admired his mom for doing that. The child was innocent and shouldn't have to suffer for the bad choices of his parents.
Urban, I agree with you about Ursula. I say I agree with her on this point but that only goes as far as the point that he should consult a lawyer. I don't mean fighting for custody. I think it's a horrible idea for Memo to try to take custody of Isa and highly unlikely he would succeed. I do think he should seek legal advice though - just in general. To find out what/if any rights he might have as a non-custodial parent. Normally, a bio-parent wouldn't have any rights in a legal adoption but a) I'm not sure the adoption was legal, it sure looked like Isa's bio-mom was forced to give her up and b) Memo never knew he had a daughter and thus never agreed to the adoption. I don't know what the legalities of that situation would be but that's exactly the point of seeking legal advice. Not to necessarily DO anything but just to know exactly what is what.
Thank you, Darcy! Love your wit and insight..these are only some of my favs--
(Eyes rolling, I really hate this fool, it’s hard to listen to him much less report back his nonsense.)
How sad to see the man who’s only redeeming quality up to this point, was his love for his children display absolutely no concern for this child!
Okay, so Lupita knows how to make a sandwich bigger than your head...
Yes, Darcy, a painful episode to watch overall. Watching Dani struggle with whether to believe Memo or not was hard to watch. I think deep down, she knows that Memo had no ill intentions, but having Satan harp on you over and over again that your were being made a fool of surely clouded her thinking. Then those slaps that Yolanda gave Grace and Grace's pleas that her mother stop hoping for the hopeless were cringeworthy. Mac's indifference while Yolanda slapped and threatened to beat Grace so badly that she wouldn't be able to get out of bed for 3 days was very disturbing. Makes me wonder how many times Grace has been beaten :-/
I too was surprised tha Grace is Mac's daughter though nothing should surprise us when it comes to Mac.
I'm not sure but I got the impression that Grace is the eldest of Mac's daughters. Lupita may be a close year or two younger since she is already attending a post secondary school..but that is just my guess.
Sebas's mom did die. I remember him repraoching his father for sending him off to a boarding school and he didn't have the chance to spend more time with his mom when she fell ill.
Thank you again, Darcy. These episodes are becoming very difficult to watch and much more difficult to write about, yet you did it superbly...even interjecting your much needed humor.
Liz, good point about Julia not confiding in Angel because he could confide in Braulio who is up to something with who knows who or what. Celeste really looked incredulous when it came to Braulio insisting he would have enough money to buy a house.
Urban, “Maury Povich Paternity Stakes” had me laughing. I agree that Homero will probably win the “dubious competition.”
Diana, I agree that it would have been a better approach for Julia to have not cut off Angel like she did. I hope she doesn’t decide to break up with him. That would be stupid.
Darcy, when Daniela catches Fausto and Karen -- I am already imagining how that will happen -- that will probably be when this gets addressed.
You raised an important point about whether Isabella's adoption was legal. In the US Memo's consent would be legally required unless the space marked "Father" is filled in as "Unknown." Whether a positive DNA test result would change that I don't know. I am sure that Fausto paid a large sum for the adoption and we don't actually know the details.
I could swear that Olivia died in childbirth -- perhaps with a little help from this doctor -- and Isabella was handed to Fausto as a healthy newborn the next day. The letter Memo was handed would have been written just as Olivia was born and the doctor kept it for 6 years. That is what I think happened. Since this is only episode 30 it's likely we will have to wait another 20 or 30 episodes before the truth is revealed.
Fantastic job, Jarifa. Watching Gina turn on Ana Sofi sure was fun, even though I don’t like either of these “influencers.”
Ester continually lorded over Max that she was the active parent, so I get Max not resisting the temptation to stick it to Ester about their son not telling her. Max went low, but Ester has gone low too. I remember her saying something like "now you want to get involved when Ivan is ashes," so cruel. They both get a chance to do better with Denis.
Can’t tell if it was Cinthia's idea or the boyfriend who pushed her to dump Denis, but I too predict Cinthia will be back some day.
Just nuts that Julia and Rodolfo don't tell the police. How in blazes are they going to keep the family safe with lying Misael? Has he even given a description of who beat him?
Thanks, Darcy, a great recap that included all the details. I was really surprised that Macario had a daughter with his girlfriend. I did not expect that. I can see Amparo taking her in, but if it was me she’d have to get a new hairstyle first!
It was painful to watch Dani’s pain as Fausto just went on and on about Memo lying when he’s the real lier and cheat. I tell myself he’s a really good actor so I can distance myself from the character he’s playing. And poor Memo! But I don’t understand why Ursula has been for Memo trying to win custody. I really don’t think she wants Isa so wonder why she’s pushing it. Just to win points with Memo or is it part of another plan?
Amparo and Eugenio are so sweet together. I hope their relationship just grows from now on. But I fear Macario will somehow get Amparo to forgive him.
So Karen and Sebas are tuned in enough to their dad to know he’s interested in Amparo. That shows they have some true feelings for him.
I hope Memo finds out it was Ursula who told Fausto! And soon! She’s gotten away with too much already. She belongs with Cesar and Macario belongs with Yolanda! They are better matches that fit together. It was strange to see Macario so indifferent to his daughter. That was his only redeeming quality, his love for his kids.
Hope Fausto stops ranting and Dani can sit in quiet and think. Memo is right that finding out about being a dad would take getting used to. I thought Olivia died just before Memo got the letter. Which would be a long time to be fighting cancer. But maybe the doctor held the letter and his conscience started bothering him. I figured Fausto made up the died in childbirth story.
Liz
Darcy, super job. This epi made me both laugh out loud and cringe. You captured all the emotion and action, and I enjoyed your commentary. Muchísimas gracias!
Color me flabbergasted that Macario has an "outside" daughter about the same age as Gaby and Lupe. I know he's a ratfink bastard now, but I figured in the early days when Amparo and Mac dated that he had something worthwhile that attracted her. But Mac was always a skunk and poor Amparo has been fooled for her entire marriage. Ugh!
Humberto giving the stinkeye to kind, gentlemanly Eugenio during Eugenio and Ampara's chat was too too funny.
Poor Grace. I guess they named her "Grace" for a reason. What it must be like to live with such a cuckoo mother. And now I guess Mac plans to stay a while instead of the usual hit it and quit it. Grace's hairdo reminds me of African Bantu knot styles. ITA it would be great for her to bond with her half-siblings.
Wow, we got to see a soft side of Karen with her dad. There is a human in there somewhere.
Dani will always put Isa first, so what will she do?
Jarifa, thank you so much for providing another masterful account of everything that transpired in last nights episode.
When parents lose a child , they can either help each other or hurt each other as they wade through the grief . Max and Ester have sadly and unwisely chosen the later.
Darcy, wow thanks for every twist and turn of this tale.
So, Mac has another family with another woman under his smarmy spell. Yuck.I am glad I didn't see Grace's mother smack her for disrespecting her father . Mac doesn't deserve respect from anyone.
Darcy, thank you for sharing the story. It's uplifting to know there are so many caring people who do wonderful things, understanding children are never responsible for the actions of their parents.
Rgv Chick, this was perfect: "These episodes are becoming very difficult to watch and much more difficult to write about, yet you did it superbly...even interjecting your much needed humor".
"Mac's indifference while Yolanda slapped and threatened to beat Grace so badly that she wouldn't be able to get out of bed for 3 days was very disturbing". Mercifully, I hadn't understood that Rgv Chick. Another monster mother.
Liz and Niecie, you made an excellent point in that Karen actually seemed "human" when teasing Eugenio. I can't recall her ever genuinely smiling before! At least she seems to actually be capable of caring...
Diana
Susanlynn, yes, Max and Ester are doing nothing to help each other. The death has brought out the worst in both of them. Seeing them go after each other, makes them almost as bad as Flavia!
Falso suggests that Dani lie to Isa but Dani refuses to do so. Falso then tells Dani to think of something to tell Isa so that she will forget the trailero--he doesn't want his daughter getting close to that sorry man! (Of course he will do nothing to help with that!)
Chema is crying his little heart out. Amparo understands that it is difficult to understand what is happening between her and his father, but he can be sure that they will never stop loving him and he should not worry about it. When Chema cries that he doesn't want his father to leave the house, Amparo tells him that it's not what she wants either but that is what has to happen...there are things that need time and distance. If his father stays, they can't resolve anything, but with time maybe they will be resolved. Chem then threatens that he will not talk to her until his father returns!
Mac is movin' and shakin' the bed with his pantera (Panther). Meanwhile, Amparo cries to her mother that she needs her and asks that she give her strength to go forward. After Humberto assures her that her mother is protecting her and her brothers, he asks what is going on with her and that man (Eugenio). After Amparo assures him there is nothing, just a friendship, Humberto explains that she is always tired with all the work she has to do, but when (Eugenio) he arrives, its like she gets a bolt of energy and her eyes shine...and that had not happened in many years. (Gee, I wonder why?) All Amparo can say is that she has struggled to have a marriage like his, but NADA...with every day that passes, she realizes she has failed. Humberto knows that every person and every marriage is different...if she does decide to separate from Mac, she can always count on his support.
Karen is having dinner with Falso and Dani who explains how Memo was able to find Isa. When Dani expresses regret that the poor woman died without seeing her child grow up, Falso chides that they don't even know what the woman was like and she is probably not worth talking about her. When Karen asks what it is that Memo wants, Dani replies that Memo said that he only wanted Isa to know that he is her father. Falso insists that Memo is a liar, but Karen rebuts that Memo is a good, well-intentioned and responsible man, he could be sincere about his intentions for Isa. When Karen continues being the devil's advocate and thinks that man could be Isa's father, Falso stands sternly declaring that HE is Isa's father! The little girl is his daughter--not of that common trucker!
Leo and Amparo are talking when Memo and Ursula enter. Memo tells them that his meeting went badly. When Amparo and Leo chide him for not following heir, Memo asks them to let him handle this problem in his own way. Humberto approaches and tells him that they will handle this as a family...as they have always handle all problems.
Mac and Yolanda are still in bed and discuss how good they feel being together. Mac tells her that the will be spending the night there. Yolanda is happy as they continue the shakin'
Amparo explains how it was that she told their father about Isa being Memo's daughter. Humberto harps that all he wanted to tell her was that Ursula is expecting! Both Leo and Amparo are aghast and turn Ursula with a "TU??"Of course, Ursula relishes in telling them that yes she is but they were waiting for a good moment to tell them...and assures them that she has confirmed it. Humberto points out that ever since he first saw Isa, he noticed her resemblance to Gaby. He reminds Memo that he should have confided in him just like like they always have ever since young children. He chides Memo for keeping quiet and getting close to that family...that is why Memo is now at risk of losing his daughter. Memo's saucer eyes reflect his growing concern.
Dani is alone with Karen and confides that she feels used and is stupid. The worst thing is that she was about to leave Falso for him (Memo). Karen's ears perk up and her mouth is agape as Dani shares that she followed Karen's advice--she confessed to Memo that she had fallen in love with him. Dani is furious with herself for believing in Memo who was only using her. He manipulated her since the beginning...and she unveiled her soul to him...he left her in pieces! Everything they lived was a lie!!
Ursula calls Falso and is happy that he listened to her. She warns him that the whole family is planning on how to help Memo not lose Isa. Ursula assures him that she will keep him informed but he's better not rat on her. Falso hangs up when Aaron arrives. Falso has a job for Aaron; he needs him to get rid of someone--Memo! And he wants him dead...with no witnesses and it has to look like an accident!
Karen encourages Dani and tells her to put herself in Memo's place...he couldn't just show up at the door and announce that Isa is his daughter. When she adds that it is good that Memo is Isa's father...he has always been good with her and Isa and she is sure Memo is a good man who had no other course to take. Dani asks that Karen not defend Memo and when Karen comments that Memo finally found the courage to confess everything, Dani tells her that it was Falso who found out; and when they confronted Memo, the coward had to admit it. Karen is taken aback but quickly realizes that is why Falso was so upset after "that woman" left his office....Memo's novia; and Karen is sure that it was she who told Falso.
Falso explains to Aaron that when Olivia made him think that he got her pregnant, she was actually expecting the trailero's child.
Dani asks Karen if she is sure so Karen explains how she has figured out that it was Ursula was the one who spilled the beans. Dani is going to confront Falso and hopes that Karen doesn't have a problem with standing by what she said in front of his face! Karen assures her that she is on her side and her friend who would help her in anything, but Dani needs to think before she acts. Dani wonders if Memo told Ursula about Isa when he was going to end their relationship. Karen thinks that is perfect because is would only mean that Memo also fell in love with Dani. Karen thinks there are two possible reasons why Ursula would betray Memo: 1) Memo ended his relationship with Ursula and Ursula went to talk to Falso in retaliation; or 2) this is Ursula's declaration of WAR! she then explains her reasoning.
Memo and Humberto have a lengthy talk about about what Memo is going through and becoming a father. Humberto tells him that no one shows them how to be a good father; it's something that they learn with experience. After Memo assures him that he only wants Isa to know that he is her father, Humberto assures him that he will have his support.
Lupita cries because her father has left and Gaby will blame her for it. Amparo assures her that she has no fault in this. Mac is responsible for his actions and Gaby will have to accept that.
JuanPa takes Gaby to have dinner with his family. Dani recalls when Isa saw a picture of Gaby and thought sit was her. Falso and Aaron approach since Aaron is leaving. When Karen asks why Aaron isn't staying for dinner, Falso bluntly tells her that his employees know their place and that he will not sit them at his table!
Mac tells Yolanda to make him something for dinner. When Yolanda suggests that they go out to dinner, Mac tells her that they can't take the risk...someone might go running to tell Amparo and heh as enough with all the problems he has with Amparo. Yolanda's eyes are opened and realizes that Mac is only there because Amparo probably threw him out of he house. She shouts that he should go have the witch prepare his dinner! She tells him to leave and as he is leaving, Yolanda pulls him back pretending to be regretful, but after she takes his wallet and some money, she throws him out again!
Dani asks Falso to allow Gaby to stay for dinner, but Falso insinuates that Gaby is as much a liar and social climber as Memo. Dani pleads that he allow Gaby to stay...and asks that he at least do it for her.
Lupita finds out that Ursula is pregnant and is very happy. When Amparo asks how far along Ursula is, Ursula tells her that she forgot to ask! Amparo then estimates that, based on her nausea, she must be at least a month into her pregnancy.
Gaby has been allowed to stay for dinner. When she asks for Chavelita, Falso growls that his daughter is name Isabela! Gaby goes on about how much she and Isa look alike and the strong connection that they have, Falso asks that they talk about something else. JuanPa senses the tension and asks what is wrong, but when Chuchita comes to tell them that Isa is awake and had a nightmare, Gaby offers to go see Isa, but Falso barks that Isa needs her parents!
Amparo catches Mac in the kitchen with a huge torta. When she tells him to leave, Mac wants to go see Chema and give him a good night kiss. Amparo refuses to allow it since Mac will probably cry to Chema and use Chema to stay there.
Now both in pjs, Dani looks on dismayed as Falso tells a sleeping Isa that HE is her father...her only father! It doesn't matter that they don't have the same blood...and it doesn't give Memo the right to separate them! He is her father!
Yolanda is slumped in the chair with strewn objects around her bare feet when Grace enters and starts laughing. She can't believe it--Yolanda tripped up again and with the same rock! he doesn't like to say "I told you so" but "I told you so!" This happens over and aver again. It's not the first time that man comes and Yolanda is left angry and upset. Yolanda cries that this time it's different; he isn't coming back! When she adds that she needs to go after him, Grace can't believe it and wonders when her mother will realize that they are better off without that man! Yolanda fears that she aid things that she shouldn't have said. He showed up because the witch ran him off and she should have taken advantage of the opportunity...she can't live without him...blah blah blah...this is too stupid to continue writing about...
At breakfast, Amparo asks Gaby how things went at the dinner with his boyfriend. Gaby tells them that things at JuanPa's house don't seem to be going well. They were acting odd and things were tense. She thought it was because of her but maybe it's because of the sale of the property, Amparo and Memo look at each and keep mum. Chema approaches and avoids talking to his mother. He asks Memo for some toast, but Amparo rules there and insists that she will make to change clothes nd forces him away. Memo tries to get more info from Gaby, but she has to hurry off.
Amparo has taken Chema to her bedroom where Mac lies moaning and groaning. Chema jumps on the bed and is very happy to see his papa.
Dani has helped Isa get ready for school and asks her to go down and have breakfast. Once alone, Dani thinks of Memo telling her that he fell in love with an impossible love. Her thoughts are interrupted by Falso who insists on taking Isa to school. That trailero might show up, tear Isa away from Dani's arms and take her away in his trailer! After Falso leaves, Dani gets her phone and thinks about calling Memo, but doesn't
Meanwhile, Memo is thinking of the moment he and Dani admitted that they love each other. Ursula slithers in and assumes he is thinking about Isa since Memo has wiped his tears away. After she asks if he is going to work, Memo gets a call and tells the person they will see each other there; he doesn't share with Ursula whom he is meeting with.
Memo is nervously sitting on a bench at the park when Falso approaches and sits by him. When Memo asks what he wants to talk about, Falso bluntly asks him how much money he wants to stay away from his family. He wants Memo to forget about Isa FOREVER! As they talk, Aaron watches from behind some bushes as he put a very long barreled pistol into his coat!!
FIN
Much veered off course as relationships continued to fracture, dreams became decimated and hopes dashed. Only a gifted writer and a consummate storyteller could capture tonight’s events so expertly. Well done Rgv Chick.
Memo and Dani both in their respective hells, with Fausto and Ursula determined to keep them there. Fausto’s “I’M your father” performance with a sleeping Isa (on sheets decorated with diamonds and stars) for Dani’s benefit was truly nauseating. “Memo's saucer eyes reflect his growing concern”. His only hope is if and when Daniela finally realizes Memo truly does love her and while he has made mistakes has only Isa’s best interests at heart.
Macario and Yolanda’s sick co-dependent “relationship” was hard enough to watch but Yolanda and Grace’s scenes were even more disturbing. Yolanda is sick and abusive and Grace needs to leave immediately and find a safe place to land to heal.
“Dani asks Falso to allow Gaby to stay for dinner.” Really?? Dani has to ask permission? Is it not her house as well? Fausto was so condescending and rude to Gaby. I’m surprised JuanPa wasn’t mortified enough to hustle Gaby home.
Thank you for your wry “Mac is movin' and shakin' the bed with his pantera (Panther),” was truly needed! The torta he made off with was huge as is all the sandwiches made by the Santos family 😊
Amparo not only didn’t congratulate Ursula on the pregnancy, she seemed very cynical. Not knowing how far along she was supposed to be was a surprising slip from the usual one step ahead Ursula. I was relieved Humberto will support Amparo if she makes the break with Macario permanent.
I suspect Fausto won’t be successful in having Aaron murder Memo but it bodes poorly for him being out of patience. Memo is growing short of time.
Excellent Rgv Chick. Thank you!
Diana
Thank you Rgv Chick, I agree with Diana, 'Only a gifted writer and a consummate storyteller could capture tonight's events so expertly'. I haven't watched yet as I was out last night but I have no doubt your recap is better than what will surely be a painful episode to watch. Maybe I'll put that off til tomorrow!
So after a week of Isa crying episodes to a couple Dani and Memo crying episodes, we land at a Chema crying episode? Not looking forward to seeing that. I hope we get some lighthearted laughter somehow next week.
If Karen can actually convince Dani to forgive Memo there will be an actual use for her!!
The scene with Yolanda taking Mac's money and kicking him out sounds funny. Too bad she regretted it later!!!
I too am glad Humberto is willing to support Amparo instead of being one of those people who thinks that because he made marriage last forever she can too. Heck, if Memo marries Ursula, he'll have two divorces waiting to happen in his family! Maybe Leo can manage the life long penguin love - or Lupita! I am team marriage all the way but life is too short to live miserable while your spouse lies, cheats, and steals from you! Not to mention whatever term is bad enough to describe Ursa trying to tear Memo's daughter from him while lying to him about being pregnant!!
Enough doom and gloom, I'm going to go clean my house!
Happy New Year's Eve!
Excellent recap, Rgv Chick. Diana and Darcy are on the money about your storytelling talents! I haven't watched the epi yet, but I cringed, laughed, and sighed as I moved through the vivid prose you unfolded. And your comments make me smile.
What part of "make it look like an accident" does Aaron not understand? Why the gun? No matter, we know that Memo will foil him, and also hopefully, understand what he's dealing with in Falso.
Yay! Humberto is on board if Amparo makes the split permanent. I just hate Mac making himself at home in their home. He'll use the kids for all their worth to sway Amparo.
There's always an either/or in TNs. But Dani should see that even if she doesn't get with Memo, staying with Falso is impossible. How dare he be so rude to Gaby.
Notes from the couch . . . aka the "Really???" edition
Here we go . . . and there was plenty going on tonight.
INTRO: There is a flashback of Lenar telling Donato not to worry about Jero. From now on, it is just her and him. She is sure she has made the right decision.
We switch to the present where Lenar is at the grand opening talking to Jero behind the food truck. She is in tears not knowing if she even has the words to tell Jero what she wants to. Every time she sees him with another woman, she gets so very jealous. She just can't stand it. She asks if he feels anything for her. (Really??) Does he love her? He explains how hard it was for him when she didn't want him but he had to go down that road because there was no other choice. He respects Donato and her relationship with him. Ebe approaches them asking what is wrong. Lenar quickly lies and has she has decided that Adair can work on the food truck as long as he keeps up his studies. Jero agrees. (At least Adair benefitted from the confrontation)
THE GRAND OPENING
Flavia gives a delusional speech at the grand opening about always wanting a business of her own. Then it occurred to her out of the blue!!! Why not a food truck? It was her own idea 100% original! (Really???) Everyone politely listens. She introduces Jero as the best partner anyone could ever have. Everyone applauds for . . . Jero. Jero thanks his sons and Flavia. He says that by starting this business after coming back from the USA, he hopes he can give a good lesson to his sons: you can always start again from nothing. He also thanks Ester, Julia, Celeste and Margarita, may she rest in peace, because they had a food truck like this. He says those four women are their inspiration. He asks Flavia to agree. She smiles and sort of chirps but never really says yes. (Really???)
The truck is unveiled. The business is called VENCER EL ANTOJO (Overcoming your cravings)(Cute use of the VENCER label). The grand opening is under way with Jero and the kids cooking and serving. Rayo watches from behind a tree and leaves.
Celeste goes to the grand opening and meets up with Julia and Ester. Ester sadly comments that if it weren't for the accident, they would be working on a food truck just like that one. The three friends talk about Rayo and lament the fact that with everything going on in their own lives, they lost track of Rayo. (Really? ??? She can say that again) Ester comments that the the worst part of this situation is that the one who was responsible for it still hasn't been found. Julia comments that everything was probably different from what they thought. Ester cannot take Julia starting to defend Misael one more time.
Flavia comes up to the three friends and asks if they are not going to congratulate her. (Really?) They all congratulate her. She asks if any on of them ended up with Margarita's recipe book. "Nope" is the answer. Celeste says Rayo probably has it. The friends are ready to leave when Flavia reminds them that their next payment to her will be due soon. They need takes sure it is on time and the full amount. (Really??? She always has to rub it in that they are her debtors every single time)
Celeste takes the opportunity to ask Ester if the Funes company has recovered financially yet. Ester says the company has a lot of money problems but she thinks that it will all work out.
Ester tells Jero that Cinthia skipped out.
Jero notices that Donato didn't come. He is probably working on his wedding plans.
JULIA + MISAEL + ANGEL
Back at the hospital, Misael angrily demands to know if there is another guy in Julia's life. She cannot believe he would dare to play the jealous card with how much he cheated on her. He chalks it up to the fact that he is a man and that is how they are. She isn't going to change that and he doesn't want to hear about respect. (Really??? and she is still there talking to him??? ) His concern is their family. He wants to see Danny. She says he better make sure that Danny is not put in danger and that he makes a report to the police. Misael thinks not. He is afraid of taking the fall for it all . He was the one who was driving and the law will find him guilty for Margarita's and Iván's death. Julia says that is all the more reason to talk to the police so he can tell his side of the story. He disagrees and demands that she isn't going to talk to anyone about it ehe adds a "PLEASE." She agrees and starts to leave when he asks her to get him a cheap cellphone so they can be in contact. (Really???)
Evidently Julia jumped to fulfill Misael's wishes and got a phone for him because she gets a text. He tells her to bring Danny to the hospital so he can see him for a while. She tells him that is never happening. Rodolfo is in the vicinity and gives his unsolicited opinion. She should bring Danny to the hospital for a visit. Danny is Misael's son, after all, and he wants to see him (Really??)
Misael has a visitor. It is some "guy" who he trusts. He is not to tell anyone he is alive. The guy says of course he won't. Misael asks if somebody is following HIS Julia around. The guy doesn't know but he will let him know what is going on with his wife.
Julia gets a text from Angel. He wants to see her tonight. It is urgent. She agrees. She also needs to talk to him. As Angel complains about how irresonsible his sister is, Homero pretends to go off into one of his "episodes." They both get a good laugh. (Me, too)
Julia arrives at Angel's place. She explains her unavailability on being very busy working to repay her debt to Flavia. Then there is Danny with his homework. In addition to that, there have been just other things that have come up. Angel understands but he still feels like something else is going on. He asks if she is sure there is nothing else going on. Julia looks uncomfortable as she lies and says no. She asks how his company is doing. He says he is doing what he can. Julia says she finally realized that the money Misael was carrying was a loan. She asks if Homero arranged the loan. Angel explains that Homero got the loan in cash to pay debts so he wouldn't have to pay taxes on it but he did it through illegal means. That was the problem. He wonders why she is asking. She says that it occurred to her the other the other day that there might have been another person in a addition to Misael that knew about the money and might have wanted to steal it. Angel asks how she thought that the money she was sent came from Misael. She says it was because of the "sin filtros" messages she was getting that were coming from a place that Misael loved. At this point, she doesn't know anything anymore. He asks her what made her change her mind. What is she hiding? Julia asks him to be patient with her and to give her time. He asks if she wants them to stop seeing each there. She cannot look him in the eye as he asks her not to ask that of him. He tries to kiss her but she pushes him away. She decides it is time to go. He insists on taking her home. She thanks him for the lift home but avoids kissing him. He invites her out tomorrow with Danny. She says they can't go because Danny has way too much homework to do. She has excuses for any alternative days. Misael's spy guy watches them from behind a tree. Her face is blank as he asks if something is wrong. She says no.
On Sunday, Julia is at the park doing business and Danny's playing. Evidently Julia didn't give in on Misael's visit request (Yay!) because she gets another text from him saying if she won't bring Danny, at least, could she come and see him. At the same time, Angel appears about of nowhere. She asks how he knew where they were. Danny called him. Danny over comes running to see Angel.. He memorized Angel's number and called him on his grandfather's phone. Danny wanted to surprise her. It is Sunday so Angel was not busy. Julia takes Angel on the side saying she asked him for a a bit of time. He knows but Danny called him and he really wanted to see her They end playing together. Julia then tells him that she is worried about Danny getting too close to him if their relationship ends up not having a future. Angel makes it clear he is not playing games with her. Julia's phone is on the park bench. lt rings and Gina gives it to Danny to take to his mom. Danny answers the call and hears his father indignant that Julia is not answering his calls. Danny yells to Julia that his father is on the phone. Angel surely knows now what or rather WHO is the problem.
ANGEL
Ana Sofí is trying to convince Angel that the only reason that Julia was dating him was to give her husband time to escape with the money. He wants PROOF. Uh, she doesn't have any. (No surprise there)
Angel does an internet search for information on Misael in Matahuala and San Luis Potosí. He cannot find a thing.
Angel tells his father that he is no way agrees with what Ana Sofí said about Julia but it did get him to start thinking. (Uh, oh) Homero cannot believe that he would believe anything Ana Sofí would say. She is full of spite and anger. Angel cannot allow himself to be influenced by her resentment. Angel knows that BUT (Really????) there are things he can't stop thinking about. Just the idea that Julia could go back with her husband makes him jealous. Homero tells him that jealousy makes a bad companion. It is normal for him to feel that way but he shouldn't pay any attention to it. Angel says whatever the situation, he wants to be with Julia. Homero agrees.
CELESTE
Braulio come home and notices immediately that Celeste is not in a good mood. She says there is nothing wrong. She suggests they go to see the grand opening of the food truck. He leaves. She gets out the gated community brochure one more time (this is the third time we have seen her with it??) and looks at it.
Celeste and Brauliio have a good time talking about their baby. Much to Braulio's joy, Celeste tells him that she thinks it would be a good idea to buy a house. He says they probably could do it if they cut some expenses. He is overjoyed that she payed attention to his suggestion.
ESTER
Jero warns Ester not to get too wrapped up with her grandchild because Cinthia is still his mother. The logical thing to do would be to track Cinthia down and find out why she left. He doesn't know much about the law but in order for Denis to stay permanently, Ester will have to start a legal procedure. She cannot just take him in and keep him. Ester says she knows all about that but for now, the most important thing is to take care of him. Ester feels like her son has come back to life. (Yikes!!! Really???) He reminds her that the boy is not Iván and it is not right to talk about he as if he were. (Yay! for Jero!!) She quietly agrees.
Ester asks Jero how his first day work was. He says everything was perfect. Ester didn't see Lenar at the grand opening. He says he has something to discuss with her about Lenar. After he tells her, he asks what she thinks. She doesn't know what to tell him but advises him to to think long and hard before he makes any decision.
The next day, Jero asks Ester how she is planning on working and taking care of Denis. What will she tell him when he asks about his mother? Has she thought about any of this? Ester has had enough of his questions. She complains that she has tried to contact Cinthia but has been unsuccessful. He tells her that she needs to start being aware of what it means to be Denis' caretaker. She needs to look for Cinthia seriously and find her because if she doesn't do it, he will.
Jero finds an address that Cinthia wrote on a piece of paper in the garbage. He tells Ester that he is going to check it out to see if she is there. He wants Denis to be okay. He sees Cinthia a bit like himself when he went to work abroad. In a way, he abandoned his own sons.
Max comes to visit and tells Ester he cannot find a place to move to. So, he wants Jero to break the lease so he can move in with Ester and Denis. (Really????) Ester is shocked.
Jero tracks down the address that Cinthia wrote down. A guy stumbles into him across the street from the address looking to buy some pot. The address looks like a place where they are dealing drugs.
RAYO
Rayo brings what she could steal from Homero's house. to Mati. It is costume jewelry. Mati is not happy because they won't be able to get much money for it. Mati decides that will have to solve the money problem herself! She smirks saying that she is going to get money off of Teo. Rayo is worried she might get him to steal something. Mati is still smiling as she tells her that she knows what she is doing. Rayo and the crew are in the park seated on park bench watching clouds float by. Mati's minion wants to go to the grand opening for free samples, a free meal. Rayo warns them that Flavia would kick them out. She wistfully remembers that her mother said that when her business opened, everything was going to change but since she died, there is nothing nice about her life. It is just plain awful. Her two buddies ask her if they don't count for anything. She says they do but she still feels all alone and sad some times. She gets up to leave. Mati says bye-bye to "Miss Depression."
Teo is worried about Rayo but she will not tell him more than "she is living with a friend" so his mother doesn't find out the truth and send her off to an orphanage. He still is interested in Mati. Has she talked about him. Rayo says no.
Mati is successful getting money from Teo. She teases him about never having had a novia. He is just like Rayo! he asks if she knows where rayo lives. She pretends to be jealous and that shuts him and his questions up.
Mati also tells Rayo that she managed to sell her things she brought and ended up getting good price for them. (To me, Mati looks like she might have spent the money on herself for a new dress and jewelry) Her buyer is ready to purchase more things like that from her. Rayo is not sure. She is afraid that they are going to start missing things at the house. Mati doesn't think so but she also doesn't see a boy who is following her and listening in.
EVERYTHING ELSE
Max tells Teo that he is now an uncle. Max is surprised that he is a grandfather now, too. He has no idea how Iván would have dealt with such responsibility at his age. Max tells Teo he was a very much wanted baby by both of his parents. He then adds that although he is separating from his mother, he will always be there to provide for him and love him even though he may be living far away. Max doses't know where he will be living. He is looking but hasn't been able to find anything around there. Teo suggests an apartment that might be opening up. Max says no matter what he will make sure Teo has money. Teo hopes so because his mother is cheap. (Really??? He can say that agai.)
Armando is being questioned by Silvano about the lawsuit notice that was sent to the Funes company. He wants to know what they have said about it at the house. Armando says he has heard nothing about a lawsuit. Silvano says they will pay attention when he seizes their company for payment. Silvano says that since that Armando hasn't brought him any information, he is giving him some cash to serve as his liquidation for being a a "nurse" at the Funes household. Armando never has to go back there again but Silvano will be calling him for other matters. Armando is perplexed. Silvano explains that he was unable to make Mirna fall in love with him, so he was useless. Armando takes his money.
Ana Sofí is planning on getting even with Juia and Gina when her social networks have recovered because now she knows where they Iive. (Really?)
Sergio finally reappears. He couldn't call Mirna because he was traveling for business all over the country. His phone had to be turned off in some areas for security reasons. He will explain that all another time. He is very happy to see her. She promises to never lie to him again because she doesn't want to lose him (Really??? Uh, she still doesn't go to school and doesn't work like she told him she did) They both swear not to lie. He picks her up and kisses her. They go out to dinner. She explains about Armando her father's nurse and caretaker who was being paid by her friend Ana Sofï because the Funes company is having some money problems. He encourages be open with him. It is important that a couple be honest and knows that he can trust her. She eats it up. Being honest, he thinks that they should be looking for a replacement for Armando.
Lenar is surprised how tired out Ebe and Adair are after a day of working on the food truck but they see it as worthwhile. They admire their dad's work and patience on the food truck. Donato says he wanted make it to the grand opening but Lenar had a stomach ache.(Really???) Later, Ebe asks his mother why she lied to Donato and did not tell him that she went to the food truck earlier. She tells him it is not his business. He doesn't like that she lied.
That is it. Feel free to add anytihg I left out.
Thank you, Diana, Darcy and Niecie! This episode did have just about everything in it--intrigue, lies, drama and comical actions (that may not have been intended to be comical, but are so stupid you just gotta laugh!)
Diana, "Fausto’s “I’m your father” performance with a sleeping Isa (on sheets decorated with diamonds and stars) for Dani’s benefit was truly nauseating." Yes, it was! I've never been one to easily take anti-nausea meds, but I think I'm going to have to take some right before these episodes air. And thanks for the "on sheets decorated with diamonds and stars" I totally missed that! "...Yolanda and Grace’s scenes were even more disturbing..." Thier relationship sure is an odd one. Though I cringe at how Yolanda treats Grace, I have to admire how Grace stands up for herself and tries to make her mother see how badly she is handling things. I was so proud of Yolanda when she threw Mac out, but then she went and ruined it with her pitiful regrets.
Darcy, "I too am glad Humberto is willing to support Amparo instead of being one of those people who thinks that because he made marriage last forever she can too." I think that makes all of us that are glad Humberto didn't hold fast to his previous advice about marriage. As has been mentioned several times, Humberto knows exactly what Mac is like. I can't imagine how he will react when "la casa chica" comes to light. And if Mac's behavior toward Eugenio was the "drop that overflowed the glass" for Amparo then Amparo finding out about Ylanda and Grace will be drop that shatters the glass!
Niecie, "What part of "make it look like an accident" does Aaron not understand? Why the gun?" LOL I thought the same thing! And wait till you see the barrel on that pistol! I couldn't believe Aaron tried to hide it under his jacket...half of it probably stuck out! LOL
Jarifa, “(Really???)” was beyond - such a creative theme as this was the perfect comment for just about everything that transpired in last night’s episode. There were some excellent lighter moments and you shared all of the sweet and savory delightfully.
“Homero pretends to go off into one of his "episodes." They both get a good laugh” (Me, too)”
was my favorite moment of last night, particularly as it was unexpected and out of the blue.
I was completely mesmerized by Braulio’s expressions at the food truck dedication. From a hint of laughter to barely concealed contempt, a gamut of emotions flitted across his face. My next favorite was Flavia’s reaction to Jero’s generous speech regarding the other women: “She smiles and sort of chirps but never really says yes. (Really???)”. She is a piece of work!
“Jero notices that Donato didn't come. He is probably working on his wedding plans”. Yes. Of course, I’ve no doubt! 😊 HA! I have no answer as to why he told Ester about Lenar seemingly changing her mind. Ester has made it clear she has no romantic feels for Jero, what did he expect her to do, get jealous and declare undying love for him? He further ticked me off with “She needs to look for Cinthia seriously and find her because if she doesn't do it, he will”. To quote you, “(Really???)”
Finally, an admittance of the fact the women “lost track of Rayo”. I hate that Mati is pushing Rayo to steal more but if she gets caught, I think Homero will defend her. At least she has a roof over her head but she needs school, stability and friends with ethics and character.
Julia and Angel’s still blossoming relationship is already being tested. I still am confounded about what Julia ever saw in Misael.
Armando does seem to care about Mirna (only heaven knows why). I am certain Sergio is bad news, I just can’t read the headline yet.
Sorry for going on and on. So much to talk about!
Jarifa, thank you!
Diana
Jarifa, thank you for every detail . You painted a picture with your words. Wow. You can spin straw into gold !
These people keep taking two steps forward, then one or two steps back...sometimes three steps back !!!
Lots of surprising twists and turns as the writers toss in new characters . Sergio is a mystery . Is he working for Santini, too?
Cynthia was thrown in suddenly and left just as quickly ??????
Happy New Years Eve to all !!!
RGV Chick, this was great!
I don't understand either Karen or Yolanda. Not that either deserves better men than Fausto and Macario, but both are certainly capable of improving their situations. However, Yolanda is very abusive toward Grace (whom I can't see getting a job with that bad hair) and no man with any sense would be okay with that.
How does Ursula expect to conceal the fake pregnancy? At this stage I think only Macario knows about this and will he spill the beans the next time he gets sloshed?
It's also only a matter of time before Fausto escalates his hostilities toward Daniela but she may have to catch him in a serious lie before calling a lawyer.
Really great "Really???" Edition, Jarifa. I like the way you dished out the outrages. Of all, Julia floors me heeding Misael, though at least she didn't bring Danny to see him. I'm so glad Danny let the cat out of the bag and Angels now knows.
Then there's Max wanting to replace Jero in the apartment. Really nuts.
I do think Jero was hoping for a sign of jealousy out of Ester, but romance is the last thing on her mind with all that's happened. But has she not noticed that Jero is acting like her man, trying to intercede whenever he thinks she'll get hurt?
Thanks, Rgv Chick, what an excellent recap. A lot happened and you had it all, and made it as enjoyable, or sickening, as the show itself!
I’m glad you were brief with the love scenes with Yolanda and Mac. Although they would make a good match. But it’s just plain yucky to watch them interact. Hopefully they’ll end up together and free Amparo, who deserves Eugenio.
That had to be one of the most awkward dinners ever. Dani surely won’t be able to put up with Fausto too much longer. And JuanPa should have gotten up and taken her home when she said she should go. Why make her sit through that. As everyone has mentioned Fausto’s act in the bedroom I agree it was sickening. Dani surely saw what an act that was.
Why was Mac back at Amparo’s? She’s going to have a tough time getting rid of him.
I too was surprised by the gun! Maybe he’ll shoot Fausto! I’m not sure why he continues working for him, he sure isn’t treated well.
I thought Amparo had a look of doubt on her face when Ursula told about her pregnancy. And you usually know how far along you are without a doctor having to tell you!
Liz
Thank you, Jarifa, for another great recap of an event filled episode.
I can’t believe how Flavia went on about her idea with the three that originally thought of it were standing there. Does she even realize what she is saying? I’m sure they all knew what she was like from all the years of knowing her, and I’m surprised they can be civil towards her!
Loved Homero “zoning out” for the fun of it. But not sure why Silvano thinks Angel would talk about the lawsuit at home. I guess he does talk to his father some, but why talk to Mirna. She seems empty headed. Not sure how Braulio will benefit by withholding the papers. It sounds like the company will just become Silvano’s.
I wonder if Celeste is a little suspicious of Braulio. She wondered if they could afford a house, then wondered how the company was doing.
I also wonder if Armando will go to work still. Angel was going to start paying him, I think. I feel like he was good for Homero.
So many questions! What’s Sergio up to. I thought he wasn’t going to forgive Mirna for lying, and now he wants her to confide in him!
If Julia would bring Angel to Misael they might be able to figure something out.
Max suggesting Jero break his lease so he and Ester could live there with Denis was laughable. I guess Flavia owns the apartment now. I bet she wouldn’t rent to him!
Liz
Wishing all of you the best of health, the best life in the coming year...
May you find happiness and peace...
Diana
Hope the New Year has been good to everyone thus far!
Only Thursday isn't good for me this week. So, I'm thinking of recapping Tuesday and Wednesday. If anyone would prefer to do Wednesday, I would be happy to take Friday.
Diana
I hope everyone had a great holiday. Happy 2023!
Diana, glad you enjoyed my "Really?" sense of humor. "I am still confounded about what Julia her saw in Misael." Me, too. I do know I am tired of looking at his hairy chest. Is that supposed to be attractive? LOL
Susanlynn, "Sergio is a mystery. Is he working for Santino, too?" Very good question, Susanlynn. I don't think that Cinthia is gone for good, but I could be wrong.
Niecie, I, too, was pleased that Julia didn't cave and bring Danny to see Misael. As for Jero and Ester, somehow I think their relationship is destined to be fraught by a slew of "malentendidos."
Liz, "I wonder if Celeste is a little suspicious of Braulio." She is starting to look like it. Yes, Max's breaking the lease was "laughable". Just another character thata doesn't seem "quite right" when you get a closer look.
"I do know I am tired of looking at his hairy chest. Is that supposed to be attractive? LOL" made me laugh Jarifa! My answer is nopis!!
I was wondering how we have come to care so deeply about these characters, many of whom are frankly, not all that likeable. I like the majority only some of the time, a casualty of the talented writers creating and painting them as all too realistic. But that doesn't mean I don't want the best for them. I do. And that is the genius of how this story has unfolded.
But finding those I like all of the time is more challenging. The "kids" Rayo, Teo, Danny. Who else? Rodolfo (most of the time), Chepina, Homero and Angel. And I have to add, Donato! :) Am I missing anyone?
There is always a thoughtful mystery or revelation right around the corner. But understanding any of this is only possible through your incredible recaps Jarifa that always enlighten and delight. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Diana
Diana, these characters are far from monolithic as as you so well said "I like the majority only some of the time, a casualty of the talented writers creating and painting them as all too realistic." Can't wait until showtime either!
Madrastra #46
I wasn't recapping this one because of my currently too busy life and Univision's lackadasical atttiude about posting episodes on their site. However, this one had something I can't recall seeing before: Rafael died without knowing his true parentage.
Sweet young Rafael (born after Marcia was railroaded and divorced) was introduced as the youngest child of Esteban by an unknown woman. Since I don't recall having seen every episode of the nearest previous version (2005) I thought this rather odd. As this serious moved along at comparative breakneck speed they came to a revelation that Inez was his mother. She copped to it when Marcia/Marisa questioned her privately. She fingered Bruno as the sperm donor. Marcia/Marisa kept this secret.
When Rafael introduced his absurdly sweet novia (Jimena) to the family Lucrezia lost her shit because of the class difference and tried to mess things up for the two tortolitos. Rafael found his cojones and told Lucrezia off. He left the house to go after Jimena. Esteban, Hugo, Lucia, and Marcia/Marisa go off to look for him. Someone found him and he ended up in hospital. He said his last goodbyes to his entire family.
After he died there was an ugly confrontation in the hospital waiting room in which it was revealed that while Bruno cheated on Florencia with Inez he then cheated on both of them once or twice with Lucrezia who was the birth mother of Rafael. Lucrezia boinked Bruno out of spite.
Esteban told Bruno he was fired from the network, sent Donato and Emalia away, then told Lucrezia to pack her things because she was being evicted from the family mansion. He even had security men waiting for her so she could not go up to her rooms; the maid had packed up her clothes.
Marisol del Olmo had really dialed up the crazy in the most recent episodes.
Urban, thank you for the recap . I started watching this show but stopped . The Lucrezia character was bizarre.
