Return to Damian and Domi outside her house. He asks for an art tour since it’s still early but she says some other time. Damian draws close to Domi and she closes her eyes and leans in expecting a good night kiss but she doesn’t get it! LOL Instead Damian whispers ‘Good Night’ and draws back. Domi seems disappointed and after she leaves, Damian promises he’s going to find mom’s paintings, where ever they are, he’ll find them!
Auggie goes to subtlety interrogate Carlota about the fire at Mari’s stand. She plays innocent but also goes off on a ‘I hate her!’ rant when Auggie starts to lists Mari’s qualities. Carlota covers and says she meant she hates ‘life’, sometimes it’s good, others bad, why can’t everything always be wonderful? Auggie looks like he might be rethinking whether or not Carlota is capable to setting the fire.
Mica is at the Garcia house reporting what happened with Jesus, Carlota, and Isaia out in front of the shop. She points out that Isaia was all crazy with that bus but Carloca (yes, she called her Carloca too) didn’t hesitate to defend Jesus because she feels like he belongs to her. This gives more fuel to Lupe’s argument that Mariluz should abandon the man she loves because his neighbor is crazy. Conchita tries to argue Mari should follow her heart, but Mica has to agree with Lupe. Carloca is crazy and capable of just about anything. Conchita just prays that Mari will be protected.
It's a timely prayer too, because Mari has arrived at the shop and Carloca is there demanding to know why Mari has come. She tells Mari if she has a mechanical problem that’s one thing but if she came for anything else, it’s not okay. Mari says she came to warn Jesus about Carloca and they start fighting but when Jesus comes in Carlota claims she was just warning Mari that the fire was arson because that’s what she heard. Mari says Carlota did it!! Jesus comes to Carlota’s defense and says Mariluz can’t blame her without proof. Mari is pissed that Jesus chooses to believe Carlota and not her, she practically throws his shirt at him and stalks off. Carlota, on the other hand, is thrilled Jesus believes in her! She says it’s obvious that Mari hates her and just wants to make her look bad.
Adrian doesn’t understand why Emma is mad at him. He’s looked over their messages and sees nothing that would have upset her. He then notices that he had a call showing from Emma the day of Oscar’s funeral but he doesn’t remember talking to her. He calls his buddy and learns Belen answered his phone. He figures she must have said something to upset Emma.
Emma is with Mica and lamenting that Adrian probably traded her in for Belen. Belen is prettier and stronger, she says. Mica tells her not to devalue herself! She has a lot to offer and it’s obvious from the way Adrian looks at her that he loves her. It must be something else. Emma tells Mica about the Belen phone call and the date; Mica puts it together and tells her that Adrian was ‘busy’ with the death of Don Oscar! Emma immediately feels horrible for doubting Adrian and tries to call him to see if he’s okay but when he hasn’t answered by the 2nd ring she decides he isn’t going to and hangs up! (Seriously? Apparently one must answer the phone on the first ring in this town) Emma makes a plan instead, she has an idea and she can take advantage of the fact that mom isn’t home! Does Mica know what time she’ll be coming home? Of course not. Vic isn’t going to clear her schedule with Mica.
Vicky is in bed with Fede and they are talking about the ‘owner of the house’ who loved Vicky’s offer!! She’s thrilled, Fede is the best!!!
Heriberto is back at the Garcia house assuring Lupe that he’s there for her if she needs someone to talk to. Que Surprise! Their landlord shows up and tells the ladies that he got an offer on the house and he’s going to sell it!! Victoriana is the devil!
Gabino is alive!! He shows up just as Adrian nearly kills Valero with a car jack! He needs to talk to Jesus and he is wearing a disguise that pretty much shouts ‘LOOK AT ME, I’m trying to hide!!’ LOL
At that same time, Fede lets Uncle Auggie know that Gabino Beltran is planning to report him for attempted kidnapping. Auggie wants Fede to take care of him, but Fede can’t find him! He says not to worry he’ll be able to locate him when he goes to the authorities.
Gabino is now with all the Guerreros and Don Abel, he plays a tape of his dad begging Auggie not to kill him and promises he won’t tell anyone how he tricked the landowners to get their properties! Auggie then demands the proof back but Beltran Sr says no, that proof is my only insurance policy! Auggie’s voice on the tape tells Beltran to then accept the consequences of his choice!
Gabino confirms there is evidence of the crimes of Augusto and he’s ready to tell the cops everything in exchange for protection. Abel thinks if Gabino shows them all the evidence they can not only get Auggie but also return the land to the rightful owners and stop him from hurting anything else. Jesus says Gabino’s testimony is important but he also needs to be safe. Gabino doesn’t want to be alone! Everyone offers to go with him but Jesus says Valero, Samuel and Adrian will stay at the shop, so everything seems normal and Auggie doesn’t suspect anything.
Auggie and Fede are talking about just that, suspicions! Auggie is sure someone is helping Gabino and he wants to know who. Because surely that person is out to get him!
The guys make Gabino’s disguise even more conspicuous by hiding him behind a barrel but I don’t think anyone saw accept Mariluz as the guys hurried Gabino into their truck and drove away.
Lupe and Conchita worry about how to tell Mari they are about to lose their house and Heriberto uses Lupe’s nervousness as an excuse to take her out on the town to distract her from her worries. They go off to walk in a park or something like that and Heriberto gives life tips on how to always smile. Lupe tells Heri that she appreciates his good intentions but when you have nothing but problems it’s kind of hard to just smile and skip along. He says a bunch more stuff about hope and life and all, but I stopped listening. This guy is weird and possibly high. He sounds like he’s on something. Lupe seemed charmed though.
Evil Vic is enjoying the thought of Lupe ending up homeless when Emma brings her tea. Emma asks what mommy did that morning, and Vic lies about some charity event! Vic asks about Rod and says Emma should invite him over more often he’s perfect for you! Has he said anything? Emma smiles sweetly and says ‘oh yeah, he said he wants my first time to be with him! Do you really want me to invite him over?’ LOL LOL HAHA Vic didn’t think it was funny but I did.
Adrian tries again to help Valero because he wants to be a mechanic. Valero gets injured again by Adrian’s attempt to help and tells him to stand back and touch nothing. Mica comes with a note from Emma and hands it to Adrian. While Valero goes to flirt with Mica. Adrian reads that Emma has a surprise and wants to see him that night at 11. Adrian is torn, he wants to see Emma but Jesus wants him to stay away.
Emma is in her room, trying on her dresses and making sure something is in her bag, condoms, I think. She says tonight is the night!
Auggie also thinks you should answer the phone on the first ring and gets annoyed when the phone rings twice before Fede answers. It’s the spy telling him Gabino has arrived. Get to it, Auggie says but then calls him back to give him a gun. Fede knows what to do. No mistakes! And make sure you find out who’s helping him.
Beltran is in the police station (or courthouse?) with the guys but Jesus and d Abel go off to talk to their contact. Beltran has to wait for the whomever is going to take his statement and Damian sits with him to wait, telling him not to be nervous.
Valero comes running all out of breath to tell Sam that Selena has arrived, referring to her as the perfect person for the jealousy check on Domi. Selena comes in ready to dance because she still doesn’t know she’s supposed to be a reading teacher!
Domi is working in her backyard when she notices her wallet is empty!! She finds a note from Damian: ‘If you want to recover your stuff, come and look for it’ Signed ‘The thief’ She gets out her phone to call Damian and he steps away from Gabino to take the call. Domi tries to demand her stuff back but Damian says come get it. It was like a 2 min conversation but it was enough! Gabino disappeared that quickly and we see Fede all dressed in black leaving a bathroom. In that bathroom, the guys find a very very dead Gabino! I don’t know if Fede saw the Guerreros but they saw him, though they may not have recognized him from all the way across the station.
Auggie takes Fede’s call informing him Gabino is dead from instead Lupe’s house. He’s come to visit Conchita, ie. Find out how Lupe is doing, and for the first time I like Heriberto because Conchita gets to tell Auggie that Lupe is feeling so much better, in fact, she’s out for a stroll with a friend! Auggie later sees Lupe and Heriberto with his own eyes.
Jesus did see Fede! He tells the guys he’s sure it was him because he saw him. Don Abel says if it was Auggie’s men they need to leave they shouldn’t be seen there! Jesus stops long enough to grab Gabino’s phone from his pocket and confirm to viewerville that Fede wasn’t smart enough to check Gabino for potential evidence!
Domi is tired of waiting and heads across the street to confront Damian, who isn’t there. But Samuel and Valero are there dancing badly for poor Selena, who doesn’t understand why they aren’t concentrating. She wants to know what’s up and Sam finally tells her he needs help. She asks with what and when he hesitates she tries to reassure him, don’t worry I will eat you! (LOL) Domi shows up and Sam says, now you’re helping me! Selena understands, you want me to help you make this girl jealous? Sam says yes, but if you don’t want to that’s okay. Selena definitely wants to! If Sam understood anything about women, he would understand that. She agrees and gets all close and kisses him while Valero celebrates behind the scenes! Domi looks kind of surprised and amused and maybe a little confused, but definitely not jealous! Selena looks thrilled but in a kind of sweet way, Sam looked scared of the kiss! LOL
Sam finally says hello to Domi and she asks if she’s going to introduce her to his friend. Sam does and Selena says she is Sam’s girlfriend. Valero laughs! Domi says he’s clearly busy and just to tell Damian to call her when he gets home. Domi leaves and Selena tries to ask Sam about Domi and why he wants to make her jealous but Sam runs after Domi ignoring Valero’s warning that he shouldn’t.
Sam asks Domi what she thinks of Selena and she just says she’s surprised he has a girlfriend and he hadn’t told her. She thought they were friends but don’t worry. Domi sort of smiles and leaves and Sam finally realizes that Domi only sees him as a friend.
Selena, however, sees him as much more than that. She’s finally getting the 411 from Valero and realizing she was hired to be a reading teacher and she’s worried that Jesus will find out. Valero doesn’t think that will happen and he says Sam needs a distraction to get over Domenica. Selena agrees. She really likes Sam; she likes his innocence and how he speaks frankly!! Sam comes back and Valero leaves. Selena asks what happened and Sam admits Domi wasn’t jealous. Selena suggests maybe the kiss didn’t convince her. It was a little awkward. She asks if Sam ever kissed anyone before and he admits he hasn’t. She offers to teach him how to kiss, that is, if he wants to learn? Sam says yes and Selena asks if there’s a place that they can practice.
Emma is gathering a bunch of stuff to prepare for her first time! Domi is a little thrown but they go off to Emma’s room to talk. There might be nothing to talk about though because Adrian is still debating whether or not to show up. He misses Emma so much, he tells Valero, but he doesn’t want to upset Jesus who has been so good to him. As he’s talking he decides to connect the missing jumper cable to the battery in front of him and electrocutes Valero!!! Valero tells him he needs to think really hard about whether or not he wants to be a mechanic because he kind of sucks at it.
Emma and Domi have the safe sex talk and Domi tells Emma she has to be very sure that she is doing it because she wants to and not for any other reason. Also, no condom no party! Emma giggles a little. Domi asks whether Emma is 100% sure she loves Adrian and he loves her and Emma says yes, 100% sure; leaving out the part where she thought just that very morning that Adrian was with Belen. She tells Domi she doesn’t understand why everyone thinks so badly of the Guerreros they are good people. Like Damian and Samuel, for example; oh, by the way which one do you like better? Damian or Samuel?
Samuel has taken Selena to meet Pinto and she asks if Pinto is okay with watching them practice? Sam says he’ll ask and actually gets up and asks the horse if it’s okay! LOL The kissing lessons begin and it’s hesitant and hilarious at first as Sam opens his mouth wide and sticks out his tongue but by the end of the lesson it looks as if they’re getting the hang of it. (I actually like these two together more than I thought I would. Selena is very sensual and daring but not in a totally aggressive man eater way and she seems to sincerely like Sam and appreciate who he is)
Rgv Chick, I composed an email to you this morning and I could swear I sent it but it's not in my sent folder so I don't know what happened. Sorry. I emailed you back now.
Thanks, Darcy! This was a very fun episode. I just watched on a plane so if my notes don’t make any sense, I’m blaming the altitude.
The Domi/Dami dance continues to smolder. Each interaction makes me root for them more.
Carloca’s bipolarity was on full display despite her cover-ups. Augi probably hasn’t studied much psychology, but he HAD to take notice.
I have to give props to the audio team on this novela! When Carlota and Mari first addressed the recent arson, there were flame sound effects that enveloped Carlota’s words. Last week when the used the “marrana” phrase, there were piggy sound effects used. They like to punctuate Valero’s antics with plenty of fun sounds as well.
The Rando Meter peaked twice this time around. Emma, Adrian, miscommunication, virginity, blah, blah, blah. Then all of a sudden Adrián falls off his skateboard. We get a clear view of the stunt man, then the actor’s underwear…so we move to the edges of our seats to see what in the world he’ll do next. Um. Ok.
Rando 2 - Electric Boogaloo occurs when already sickly Guadaloopy learns she’s on the brink of homelessness yet agrees to go traipsing about with a greasy beat poet who makes no sense and probably isn’t infatuated with Lupe sino Mary Jane!
Back to the action: Once Gabino took off his very conspicuous disguise, I thought he looked like a Very Brady Witness. Adult Greg Brady actually. I was glad the barrel trick worked, Jesús recognized Fede, and our boys kept possession of the cellphone.
I was surprised: (A) Augi took Fede’s death confirmation call at Lupe’s house! (B) It did not come up that Homelessness was the Garcia’s new black. And (C) Augi will probably bring harm to Lupe’s new friend Cheech Villalba.
Sam. Sam. Sam. Sam. Sam. The ill-fated Celos Test. The return of Selena (again, the Sound f/x team is on fire with Selena (Quintanilla) knock-off music in the background). The bad dancing (from the boys). The awkward kissing. Sam’s (hopefully final) realization that he’s in the Friend Zone. Pinto’s acceptance and witness to the practicing. This is a sweet, new couple. I’m very disappointed in myself for not catching their appearance in the opening credits. Has that been there all along? I’ll have to go back and look!
I love this show!!! It’s unpredictably fun, rough around the edges, and constantly entertaining!!!
Thank you O.S. the altitude served you well and you provided so much extra fun!! I love the way you notice things I don’t and I get to ‘see’ them through your perspective! I must be too busy taking notes, I hadn’t noticed the sound effects!
I like Damián and Domi too and even more I just like Domi. She’s a well written well acted character! The actress is doing a fantastic job! I like how she was with Sam, able to express her hurt/disappointment in the idea that he had a girlfriend and didn’t tell her when she thought they were friends, without being whinny or bratty about it. She just expressed her sentiment and then earnestly wished him well. It’s almost too mature for a novela! Lol
‘Guadaloopy’ Lol I love it!!!
Yes, Selena has been in the credits since day 1. I didn’t like it at first because I wanted to root for Sam and Domi against all odds but now seeing the chemistry between D&D and the cuteness with Sam and Selena, I’m thinking it will be okay. Lol
Poor Sam.I didn't expect Selina to be the one who's interested in him and the cuteness factor puts me off somehow. I think I expected something else. I also don't like Damian much. To me he has this 'guy on a motorbike' vibe that so often irritates me.
Augusto learning his guy murdered his target while at Lupe's house was creepy. And then his viejita goes on about 'Gustito' being so good. So are we supposed to geta 'stay away from my woman' scene with 'Gustito'? I might throw something if that happens.
Emma's line to her mum was the best thing in this episode. Carlota doesn't look that innocent for Jesus to be so convinced she didn't set that flower stand on fire. I thought he knew what she was like.
It's tragic the only encouragement Emma get sis from an employee of the house. The whole I've decided I want to do it today part was too much for me.Domenica kept repeating something like 'está bien' or something similar, which amused me.
Lupe is still wondering how to tell Mari they are going to be homeless when Heriberto tells her to come to live with him! Lupe is more than a little alarmed she can’t! She’s never lived with a man! And she’s a single woman!!! And don’t you dare ask me to marry you!! This is actually a pretty fun scene considering I don’t think he was trying to do any such thing. He was just saying hey, I have this big empty house; you and your mom and your daughter can live there! Plenty of room. They both look confused by this discussion… hehe
Meanwhile, Augi has learned Heriberto’s name and is putting Fede to work on the background check, he wants to know everything about him, especially his weaknesses. They also talk about Beltran and how the murder went. Fede says everything went well and the police are considering it a suicide. Fede doesn’t think anyone was with Beltran other than his lawyer and he doesn’t know who that was but whomever it was, he didn’t even bother to stick around to claim the body! Fede and Auggie laugh figuring they have nothing to worry about in that case, if the lawyer got lost it’s because he knows better than to mess with Augusto Montalvo!
Jesus is panicked thinking Augi knows everything!! He thinks they should go to the judge immediately and show him the phone recording! They need to report Augusto!!! D. Abel says no way, a phone recording isn’t proof that Augi actually killed the man and we still don’t have the documents Beltran had with the proof of the fraud, it’s not enough. Jesus tries to argue but D. Abel is adamant. If you report him now, all you’ll do is tip your hand; he’ll find out your real identity and you’ll get nowhere except in more danger. So, what just let him get away with it? Jesus asks. Damian says he won’t sit around with his arms crossed either. D. Abel puts it bluntly, Gabino is dead because he knew too much and if you do anything now, you’ll be the next person found with a bullet in his head!!! And I’m not going to let that happen! Jesus relents and declares they have to continue with the plan.
Mari is at the flower stand and thinking back to making out with Jesus and him telling her he doesn’t care about Carlota. She asks why is he doing this if he cares about her? She remembers him talking about how loving her was hurting him because he has to complete his ‘mission’ and he can’t be with her until he’s free. He asked her to understand but she doesn’t. Why is he with that crazy chick?
The crazy chick is spying on the florist and repeating her mantra of ‘I hate that stupid florist!’ She also says she wished she’d died in the fire at her stand not realizing that Augi entered the room and has heard her! Augi asks again if Carlota started the fire but she goes fully manic explaining that of course she didn’t! Just because she hates Mari doesn’t mean she tried to hurt her. She hates her because she’s a hypocrite and she’s trying to take Jesus! Carlota can’t believe daddy would think she would do something like that. Carloca gets more and more worked up and Augi has to calm her down. He claims he believes her but he warns if he discovers she’s lying she’s going to have to go back to therapy because he can’t let her have ANOTHER crisis!!! This sets Carloca off again and daddy has to calm her down again.
Jesus and Damian arrive back home with D. Abel talking about continuing the plan. Jesus with Carlota and Damian with Domi, they have to get closer to Augi and they also have to find mom’s painting! D. Abel asks what painting? And Damian fills him in on the discovery that Augi has one of their mom’s paintings somewhere and she’s alive! During this discussion, Mari is looking longingly over at Jesus and he’s looking back but he doesn’t even wave, which hurts Mari. D. Abel goes inside and Damian feels the need to state the obvious and warn Jesus yet again that in order for their plan to work, Jesus has to forget about Mariluz! Jesus says no kidding! (Not really, but he should have. No prize for repeating the obvious 427 times a week) Jesus says he has to distance himself from Mari not just for the plan, but also to protect her! He loves her too much to let her get caught up in this mess and find herself in danger!
Jesus and Damian bring the rest of the guys up to speed and they can’t believe that Beltran was murdered. Jesus says yes, he was. This is exactly why he wants Adrian to stay away from Emma! Damian says he and Jesus are going to continue with the plan to woo Domenica and Carlota. Sam says that plan isn’t good! The girls aren’t to blame for what their father did!! Jesus says they need them, they are the key to getting access to Augusto. Sam says Damian doesn’t just want Domi for the plan, he likes her! And she likes him! Damian admits it’s true, he does like her but she’s still a part of the plan. He tells Sam he knows how he feels about Domi and if Domi felt the same or if she was good for Sam, he’d back off and let his brother be happy! He promises on their mom he would, but Domi isn’t the right woman for Sam. Or is she? He asks his brother, has she done anything to make you believe she’s interested? Sam can’t say anything as he now clearly knows that she isn’t. Damian concludes Domi remains part of the plan.
Domi is looking at Damian’s drawing and gets a text from the thief himself. If she wants her stuff, she has to go out with him tonight at 8! She comes out and Damian tries to talk about where to go for dinner but Domi just wants her stuff. Damian tries to intrigue her but Domi is focused and single mindedly determined, she wants her stuff! Damian finally gives it to her and Domi says she doesn’t go out with thieves. This leads to more stealing talk which leads Damian to ‘steal’ a kiss! Domi doesn’t get very far in her attempt to protest and Damian tells her if she keeps looking at him like that, he’s going to steal a lot more than just a kiss. She looks and he starts to count, Domi runs for the gate and safety, laughing all the way. Damian says Domi has to fall soon.
Emma watches for Adrian and that love she was so sure of with Domi seems to be in doubt again. Adrian is staring at his phone and remembering Jesus’s words. What does he do? He finally texts Emma and asks where they are meeting. They are reunited and declare their mutual love and regrets over their misunderstanding. Emma sneaks Adrian up to the attic where she’s arranged Christmas lights, oh and a bed! It’s her favorite spot, her secret hideout! And now, she’s sharing it with Adrian. They start making out.
Damian is thinking of ways to demonstrate his love to Domenica and he picks up his sketch pad. We see what Sam wrote was ‘Don’t hurt her!’ and we also see Sam is crying in his bed. Jesus is standing outside Mariluz’s house in the dark screaming ‘I love you Mariluz!’ – because he’s finally lost it? But he doesn’t let her see him. We hear his voiceover saying how much love can hurt when you can’t demonstrate it.
Emma and Adrian are getting more and more cozy and Adrian’s shirt is off now. He asks if she’s sure, and she is. She wants to be with him, he’s the right one for her. They don’t get very far though because someone is coming! They quickly extinguish the lights and candles and hide! We see Carloca is returning to recover her hidden gas can! She’s paranoid now that daddy says she might have to return to therapy! (The horror!) Carloca leaves and Emma and Adrian come out of hiding but Carlota’s also digging uncovered THE painting!! And it is, THE painting! It’s of all three boys as children. Who knows how Adrian even realized it was his cousins but he did and now he’s freaked out. Emma wants to pick up where they left off but Adrian tells her it’s better if they leave. He doesn’t want someone else to come and catch them!
The Garcia ladies are talking about Heri’s supposed proposal but somehow Lupe still thinks they are just friends?? LOL They have a discussion about ‘he’s a gentleman vs he’s still a man!’ And hilariously, Conchita says ‘Sure, he’s a gentleman, but I don’t understand a word he says!’ (Me neither, Conchita) Mica wonders what Augi would do if/when he finds out Lupe has a galan and viewerville doesn’t wonder, because we are shown! He storms off to have sex with Vicky imagining she’s Lupe!!! Note: He finds Vicky reading which shocked me! She doesn’t seem like the reading type… In the afterglow, Vic is thrilled because as she says, she knew he still loved her! Auggie responds with ‘yes, I love you, Guadalupe!’ LOL
Next day, Mari is praying for the safety of Jesus as she has a feeling that he’s in danger. Lupe overhears and they have another discussion that goes no where about Jesus. Lupe doesn’t want them to be mad because of him and Mari says she isn’t mad but she also isn’t backing down.
Vic is on the phone first thing in the morning trying to demand Lupe’s immediate eviction. Fede is trying to tell her it doesn’t work that way, but Vic doesn’t care! She wants her homeless! NOW! Augi is still thinking about Vic’s words about Carlota starting the fire. Fede knows nothing. It was arson but no cameras caught anything and there is no evidence! Oh, and the contract is ready for the mechanics to sign!
Oh, my goodness, I’m so shocked! Tata is back to ask for more money! Why didn’t I see… oh that’s right, I did. Anyway, he threatens Sam on the phone so he comes out and talks to him. He tells Tata he has no money but Tata goes to knock on Augusto’s gate and even gets as far as to ask for him on the intercom so Sam caves and says he’ll get the money somehow. He has until tomorrow.
Mari comes to visit Jesus and mentions his silly childhood yelling game. Damian watches from out of view. She isn’t asking for explanations but she’s worried so she brought him a scapulary to protect him. Jesus says she doesn’t deserve this and he has his reasons. She says to keep his reasons, she’s leaving. Jesus tries to stop her but Auggie arrives in time to see this seemingly intimate exchange between them.
Mari flees and Augi warns Jesus he better not hurt Carlota! Jesus asks if he’s threatening him and Augi says take it however you want. Augi says the contract is ready and Jesus says tell me when to sign. Augi says today. Jesus says he wants to formalize his relationship with Carlota and they decide to have a dinner at Augi’s house that very night to formalize the relationship and then tomorrow they sign the contract! Augi leaves and Damian comes out of hiding. He’s surprised Jesus is taking this step with Carlota but Jesus says he needs to convince Augi that there’s nothing between him and Mari. He can’t let her be in danger.
Augi comes home and tells Vicky to prepare a special dinner for this very night. She’s annoyed with the short notice and even more opposed when she learns who the dinner guests are. NO way!!! She’s not receiving those mechanics in her house! Augi tells her otherwise. Oh, and get used to it because tonight Jesus is formalizing his relationship with Carlota! Mica is standing nearby and hears all the dirt. Her shocked face is hilarious!
Jesus wants to go talk to Mari but he realizes his new stalker girlfriend is watching so he doesn’t go. He calls Mari instead but she doesn’t answer. Mari too realizes that Carlota is watching and is uneasy. Damian comes out and torments Jesus more about leaving the florist alone! Jesus assures his brother he knows that he has to leave her alone but he needs to tell her what’s going to happen tonight so she isn’t blindsided. Damian waves to Carlota and tells Jesus he better forget about it because his future sister-in-law isn’t going to take her eyes off him for a second.
Mica ran to Lupe with the gossip. They lament that Mari is going to get hurt and I was bored with hearing about this again but it appears Lupe has a stupid idea to boot! She takes Mica to the bus depot to find out if Isaia really does have a wife or not. But of course, Isaia sees them first and by the time Mica asks she gets the ‘confirmation’ that Isaia is indeed single! (eyes rolling. I still can’t understand why Lupe thinks this tool is a good option for her daughter)
Don Abel tries to encourage Jesus to wait before formalizing his relationship, but it’s too late! There’s no turning back. Jesus goes one more time to try to talk to Mari but Carlota intercepts them again and Mari leaves. The rest of the Ruiz-Montalvo women are talking about how the Guerreros are actually coming to dinner. They can’t believe it. Vic is not thrilled but she says it’s for a good cause, you’ll see.
The boys arrive and Emma and Adrian look at each other from afar as Domi and Damian do the same. The Ruiz-Montalvo’s and Jesus go into the other room to get tequila and leave the rest of the Guerreros alone in the foyer??? They start talking about the painting and Adrian says he found some paintings in the attic, though he can’t exactly say how he happened to be in the attic.
Conchita is excited it’s time to eat and says as soon as Mari gets there. Lupe says she isn’t coming to dinner. Concha wants to know why and Lupe talks around the subject trying to change it entirely by inquiring about whether or not Conchita is having pain walking. Concha isn’t bought off and we see Mari was set up to have dinner with a flowers-bearing Isaia!
Somehow it also goes unnoticed that Sam and Damian sneak off to the attic instead of joining the dinner party?? (Where’s my beanie??) Damian finds the painting and our episode fades to credits.
Waterlily - I am not so sure Jesus IS convinced that Carlota is innocent. It's in his best interest to stay on her good side because of the plan. He kind of had to defend her in that moment. And he's not really wrong about not being able to accuse someone without proof. I saw it's reaction more as diplomatic than as a rousing defense of Carlota. Maybe he believes her and maybe he doesn't, either way he couldn't really accuse her of setting the fire and still hope to succeed in his plan.
Darcy, you’ve done it again! Ever get tired of hearing how fluid, witty, and informative your recaps are? No? Well they are!!! Thanks for all your hard work!
Ker-THUNK! That was the sound of me falling off the couch when Augi blurted out “Guadalupe” after their tryst. Will have to go back and see just what literature Mommy Dearest was reading. Snooty Matriarchs Monthly? Nephew Lovers’ Almanac?
Yay for Damián gently clarifying his motives to Sam and even offering to step back IF Sam had any inkling of a romantic chance with Domi. I’m also glad Sam’s graffiti was finally revealed.
Domi & Damián continue to be the hottest couple in development, thanks in no part to Jesús & Mariluz’s 427x (LOL) Repetitions relationship model. The look on her face when she ran away from him (to safety!) and his declaring she would fall soon was great television.
Pass the beanie! Our favorite firebug sneaks into a room and doesn’t notice any smoke/stench from the recently extinguished candles? Then lo and behold the My Three Sons painting is revealed?
I did not fall off the couch when Tata reappeared. I was surprised when he rang Augi’s doorbell and disappointed that Sam didn’t turn to Damián.
Guadaloopy’s entremetida antics were lame. Maybe Mommy Dearest was reading How To Know When Your Daughter’s Suitor is a Slime Vol II (since she backed off on Rodrigo for Emma). I hope she passes the book onto Lupe as an eviction gift.
There is no way Damián (in a slick, red James Dean jacket) would fall off the radar at this dinner party; however, they have now located Elisa’s work. Can’t wait so see what happens next!
Thank you O.S. for your continued encouragement! Me, get tired of compliments?? LOL Of course not!
Snooty Matriarchs Monthly, lol I love it!! Guadaloopy is getting on my last nerve, her support of Isaia makes no sense, both as a mother and as someone with experience in being cheated on. So, you want your daughter to move on? Well a) you butt out, and if you aren't going to do a then b) you go find her a GOOD man to distract her!! You don't go find the loser she just dumped and help him try to win her back!
I am not sure there were any candles in that room. I thought so at first too, but after Carlota left, Emma just flipped a switch and turned the lights back on, she didn't go to light candles - I think it was all just those twinkling lights.
SpanProf, thank you and I agree Sam's sense of morality is in tact. It's interesting that the most abused one with the greatest reason to be angry, resentful and jaded is the most innocent, kind and moral of the three.
I am currently working on today's recap and will post it in a while. I am taking a break from the traditional chronological retelling and am going to format this one according to themes of the episode - even when they didn't appear in order.
Also, despite the encouragement and compliments I'm going to work less hard on Thurs and Friday's episodes. I have a lot to do the next couple of days and I won't have time to do anything other than just make comments on those episodes after watching them. I will appreciate as always anything and everything the patio wants to add! :)
The Great Painting Caper
Samuel and Damian find mama’s painting in the attic and decide they are going to steal the painting ON THE SPOT!! I am team Guerrero all the way, but this is goofy!! Which makes for entertaining TV of course! Total beanie alert!! Not only were Sam and Damian allowed to disappear into the house of near strangers instead of going into the dinner, but their absence goes unnoticed and uncommented on by everyone (except Domi who does ask but Emma assures her they are in the bathroom, together! Cuz men going to the bathroom together is a thing… and as soon as they arrive??) So, the big plan is to tie sheets together and scale down the building, a plan Sam seems understandably unsure of but Damian checks and Sam says ‘I’m with you brother!’ They shimmy down the wall uninjured and make it back to the garage unseen with the painting. Apparently wall scaling lessons were on the agenda even when he was taught nothing else, because Sam climbed down that rope like a pro!
Domi did ask about the absence as I said, and she eventually gets up from the table to go in search of the brothers but Mica talks her down. After all, what is she really going to do, go check on them in the bathroom? It’s inappropriate!! Domi goes back to the table and Mica herself goes to check. When she receives no answer while calling their names (she uses Valero’s name for Sam ‘Samulin’), she braces herself for what she might see and then opens the bathroom door. What she sees is of course an empty bathroom! This leads her to go searching for the missing brothers and she finds the sheet rope and Damian’s cigs in the window sill. She is left to wonder what in the world those two were up to and she does suspect them of stealing.
The Relationship Dinner
At the big fancy dinner Augi insists on tequila to celebrate and asks Jesus to join him. He knows Jesus doesn’t usually drink but the occasion calls for it, no? Jesus agrees and at first everyone seems to think it’s a dinner to celebrate the contract signing but then Augi informs them the contract will be signed tomorrow, tonight we are celebrating something different – and Jesus needs the tequila shot in order to choke out the words: He came to ask their acceptance for him to form an official relationship with Carlota!! Carlota is thrilled!!! And thanks to a timely suggestion by Don Abel, Damian and Sam arrive back to the dinner with an impressive bottle of vino and the convenient excuse that they left to get the wine! They couldn’t bring to begin with because they didn’t want to ruin the surprise! Carlota is so excited she’s already making comments about wedding bells which gives Victoriana the perfect excuse to tell Carlota she’d be happy to help her plan since there’s nothing she’d like more than to see her leave the house… um, in a wedding dress, of course! LOL Since no fancy official relationship dinner would be complete without the heartbreak of the protagonist, Mari also arrives at the Montalvo house in time to witness the official toasting of the new novios!
The Magic Painting
The boys are so excited to finally have their painting and there’s no doubt this is the right painting as both Jesus and Damian have memories of the day it was done. Jesus says Damian was tickling Sam in the ribs and driving mom crazy because they couldn’t sit still. The painting has the initials EC, as Sam points out demonstrating his growing reading skills. Jesus tells his brothers that their mom’s maiden name was Elisa Corso. Damian is excited because this means they can now look for mom, which makes no sense since Jesus knew her last name before getting the painting, so the painting in and/of itself does nothing to change that. Which begs the question, what does the painting change? Don Oscar thought it was important, why? If it were me, I’d be looking closely at the back on that painting for hidden documents or something. Anyway, Damian finds nothing on the internet and Adrian suggests that maybe Elisa changed her name just like they did.
The Anti-Relationship Dinner & The Great Engagement
Well, technically the big Montalvo dinner could be an ‘anti-relationship’ dinner too, but in this case, we are referring to Lupe’s inexplicable attempt at hooking her daughter back up with her cheating bastard married (supposedly divorced) ex-boyfriend!!! This dinner goes as well as it should have. Isaia says a bunch of crap about how now he’s single and free and can love Mari with all his heart! He begs her for another chance and even asks her to marry him but he’s turned down flat of course. Mari just doesn’t love him anymore. She’s sorry, but it’s the truth! She doesn’t dream of marrying him anymore, and he no longer holds her heart. A rejected Isaia says that he hopes she isn’t saying all this for Jesus, because Jesus is planning to formalize his relationship with his neighbor! Mari calls him a no-good dirty liar and says he isn’t going to win her heart back by telling her lies! She stalks off crying and remembering Jesus’s declarations that it is HER he loves. I didn’t hear Isaia actually say there was a dinner that night but Mari found out either from him or from the Garcia’s because as you read above, she takes herself off to Augusto’s desperate to find out it’s a lie.
Isaia on the other hands, runs off to complain to Lupe and Conchita that Mari said no!!! Lupe is disappointed but the only voice of reason, ie. Conchita, says of course she rejected you!!! Why would she marry you after everything you’ve done? Her moment of hard truth is ruined however by a distraught Mari showing up and declaring that as long as Isaia is willing to take her far far away from here, she will marry him! Just set the date!!! Because why not? Jesus has a GIRLFRIEND, so why not give up and become someone else’s wife?
The Not so Great Contract Signing
Jesus arrives to sign the contract and asks if it would bug Augi if he reads it first. Augi says go right ahead. Fede says there’s no point, it says exactly what we agreed upon! But Augi says to leave Jesus alone. Let him read it! In fact, if you want, have a lawyer go over it first. I have no problems with that. Jesus reconsiders and says if Augi trusts him with his daughter, he’s sure he can trust him with his business! And at first, I thought it was STUPID of him to sign without reading first but then I realized he’s signing a fake name to that contract so it’s probably not legally binding anyway.
The Auto Show
Augi is involved in some sort of car racing business, it’s what the business contract is for so Jesus will do maintenance on the cars. Anyway, they are planning some sort of event which Augi and Fede were earlier looking at a flyer for. The auto show is Jesus’s introduction to the business and as an extra surprise Carlota is going with him! This leads to a couple uncomfortable moments for Mari. First, watching Carlota kiss her novio possessively as he picks her up for the show and later when Carlota takes a selfie of herself and Jesus by a racecar and cruelly texts it to Mariluz. Jesus is blissfully unaware of all this and just taking in the car show like a kid in the candy shop.
The Tata of It All
As everyone else is looking at photos and dreaming about the new car racing business, Sam is uncomfortable and silent remembering Tata’s demand that he pay him 5 mil pesos today or else! Just then a client comes in to pay his bill which just happens to be 5 mil pesos! Imagine that! He later pays Tata once again but this time Tata doesn’t even pretend it’s going to be his last payment. Right away, he makes his next demand! PINTO!!! Sam is devastated, Pinto is his! But Tata doesn’t care of course, he wants the horse back by tomorrow or else!
The Garcia Living Situation
Villalba comes to the Garcia ladies with a grand idea! He found a friend who will rent them a new house! Ta Da! He’s proud of himself but he has to contend with Conchita, who a) thinks he’s weird – good call and b) doesn’t want to leave her home and all her memories! Lupe points out Mari is leaving the house anyway with her marriage but Conchita says don’t celebrate, Mari will never be happy in that marriage! Villalba says a whole bunch of other stuff that makes no sense. Are the ladies getting a new house? I have no idea, but we’ll find out soon, I’m sure. Mica once again has a private conversation where Augi can overhear and as soon as Augi finds out about her impending homelessness, Augi runs to support Lupe and finds Villalba at her kitchen table. The two men have a tense and weird (everything with Villabla is weird) meeting and Villa leaves quickly, but not before doing that awesome sunglass pose! (I actually laughed at how annoyed Augi looked with Villa’s speech – I think that’s the only time I’ve ever laughed at Augi! Not to mention the not completely suppressed smile on Lupe’s face when she’s clearly enjoying Augi’s discomfort.) Augi tries to offer his help but Lupe says all he brings her is problems!! He needs to get out of her life and forget about her! Augi asks all she’s going to deal with all this alone, and Lupe just smiles and says I’m not alone!! I have the support of my great friend Heriberto Villabla! LOL Augi finally leaves and Lupe says to the empty room ‘maybe now you’ll leave me alone, Augusto Montalvo!’
Everything Else
The Guerreros make another search for the ‘hidden evidence’, and find nothing; just a thought, the evidence isn’t in the shop! I’m betting Beltran had a better place to hide it like a safety deposit box. Valero makes the hilarious comment ‘The shop is clean, well it’s kind of filthy; but it is free of those documents.’
Mica confronts Damian with his lie from the night before but Damian claims he was just looking for Domi’s room and got lost. Silly Sammy followed him and when they realized they were all the way upstairs they didn’t want to get caught there and raise suspicions and ruin Jesus’s big night, so they went out the window! That’s reasonable, right? Vallero backs up Damian’s story and Mica looks more amused by Valero then convinced by Damian but she drops it.
Adrian was helping d. Abel with the research on the contracts, and he realized that he really enjoys learning about the law. Perhaps this could be his career path since mechanics isn’t really his forte?
Adrain talks to his friend about his conflicted feelings for Emma and how he messed up by rejecting her sexual advances. Later, Belen runs into Emma and for the first time ever is HAPPY to see her! Playing all fake nice and friendly she lets Emma know Adrian TOLD HER about how he couldn’t make love to Emma! Belen takes great pleasure in telling Emma it’s probably because he still misses me! When we made love, oh, it was so passionate!! A vulnerable Emma goes inside and tells her mom she needs to talk to her but Vic laughs in her face!
The ending:
More unhappy star-crossed lover moments as Jesus is stopped in his tracks on his way to greet Mariluz by the sudden unwelcome appearance of Isaia! This makes everyone except always watching Carlota unhappy. Jesus is unhappy for obvious reasons and Mari is unhappy because Isaia is already throwing a jealous fit, three whole seconds after recovering their relationship. He actually thinks it’s reasonable to ask her to quit her job because he doesn’t want her near Jesus! After he strikes out with that argument, he storms into the shop to warn Jesus that he better stay away from his girl. Which was good for an eye roll, but it did serve to reveal to Jesus that Mari knows Carlota is now his girlfriend. Jesus warns Isaia that if he hurts Mari again, he’ll answer to him; but he needn’t worry, Mari would have to care about Isaia in order for him to hurt her. And she doesn’t.
Darcy: AWESOME job with the recap of yesterday's episode. Assuming the Body Count has escalated lately 🤔 ?
Steve Boudreaux
Thank you Steve, so far the body count is minimal as fas people actually killed since the story started. Only Beltran Jr. But others were killed prior to cameras rolling! Probably more than we know!!
