#49 – Hola Higgins – parte 1 de 2
Epi and General Corrupto talk before his departure. The guy says that six more years of Epifanio as president should give him enough lana to be set for life.
In Ecuador Pablo reads on his phone about the tragic death of Sami. Great cell service in this remote forest!
In Colombia Faustino gets ready to leave for Bogotá. Mateo gives one of his dark looks when Sofia says they’ll have to share cups and Fedor is OK with it. Sofia has made a list of the supplies they need.
Things are even worse between Sheila and Batman. He says he won’t help her find a clinic. Faustino promises he’ll find out for her where she can have the abortion.
Kozar tells Garrido over the phone that Aguilar’s information will finish Vargas off. Garrido tells her that his alliance with them ends when Vargas is out of office. [Smart guy. Lie down with dogs; get up with fleas.]
Garcia is told that nothing can be done to stop Aguilar’s deal.
Faustino tells Batman the decision has to be the woman’s. He pulls off the road and shows Batman the skyline of Bogotá.
Teresa, Pablo, Oleg, and Anton reach the coordinates that were in the code on the keys. And we see Epi riding through a road on his way there. He asks the guy driving if all the lana is in the backpacks. Then he says that he doesn’t trust them, especially his goddaughter. Epi gets a call from Garcia, who tells him it’s mostly done and dusted with Aguilar.
Our Ecuador Team arrives at a building. There’s a big door inside. The lock is in the shape of the joined keys and Teresa puts the keys inside. A wheel like that on a bank safe moves and they all push. Open Sesame!
In Bogotá Faustino seeks out his friend Mario, a fixer of sorts who’s helped him before. They run into Mario’s mother, a very colorful character. She tells them Mario’s away. When she moves away from them Faustino tells Batman she’s very good at business.
#49 – Hola Higgins – parte 2 de 2
TeamE pore around Higgins’ hideout. There are some statues of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. There’s a bulletin board with lots of stuff on it. There’s a photo of Higgins with Karen and another one with Sami. There’s also one with Kozar, and Teresa thinks they were lovers from the looks of it. They find a computer and, best of all, a metal briefcase with, I think, external hard drives loaded with files.
Aguilar signs the agreement, speaks with his wife on the phone, and then is taken somewhere to get cleaned up.
Faustino calls to ask his cuz the nun to come to Bogotá.
There’s a funny scene with Mario’s mother adding up everything they’ve bought. She includes an amount for the coffee she brought them! The last thing she gives them is a flyer for the abortion clinic, asking why grown guys like they are don’t know how to use a condom! Faustino says they’ll return when they’ve gotten the money.
TeamE plays an audio file of Higgins telling Kozar he needs an answer in 24 hours. He says he knows that her “superiors” don’t like being extorted, but he needs this resolved ASAP. She tries to convince him to give her what she has. He says that Uriel would be nothing if it weren’t for him. Teresa perks up at this name again. He tells her that they shouldn’t waste their time looking for him. They’d never find him in a million years.
Epi asks the Lt. for a gun. Says, after all, it’s Teresa Mendoza.
Danilo meets with Garrido, who gives him a gun to give to Bebita.
Garrido tells Danilo that Montaño left the country, but he doesn’t know where he went. He does know that he’s not with Epifanio Vargas.
Wonderful recap, novelera! Thanks VERY much!
I very much appreciated your humorous remarks, such as your noting the rather unlikely "great cell service in this remote forest." And, of course, when Garrido tells Kozar that his alliance with them ends when Vargas is out of office, you observe, "Lie down with dogs; get up with fleas."
The news article Pablo reads on his phone about Sami's death mentions that the chief suspect is Teresa Mendoza. I think Pablo or Oleg says they should make sure Epi adds forgiveness for that death to the other things he's promised them. One of TeamA points out that they didn't kill Sami. Teresa mentions that she was sent to prison for several killings she didn't commit.
I wonder why Montaño left the country. Was it because he sensed that Epifanio was about to lose his power, or was he was shown the photos Garrido's aide took of Montaño shaking hands with Garrido and seeming to accept a briefcase? Or none of the above?
I'm not sure what to make of Higgins' hideaway. But I'm surprised no one seemed to notice or mention what looked like a very large, prominent clock or timer on the wall above some of the photos and documents. It was glowing bright orange and read something like 11 24 02 and the last two numbers went up each second. I kept thinking about the timer on a time bomb. In spite of no one apparently having been there in some time, the clock was still going. My guess is that it was started by the opening of the door to the hideaway. If in fact it IS a timer for a time bomb, I hope someone on TeamA notices it and makes sure to get everyone out of there with the evidence before the bomb goes off (in 11+ hours).
thanks so much Juanita and novelera for sorting out the pieces to this puzzle and writing such wonderful recaps.
at the time this was filmed, wasn't Kate del Castillo wanted by the Mexican government for her visit to see 'El Chapo' Guzmán?
on current events, the president of Peru was recently impeached and put in jail.
back to the fiction, I've been enjoying Ernie as long as nothing goes well for him, I was kind of thinking he would get the evidence and take down the ice Queen, as opposed to Epi just threatening her with it, so now I wonder what he will do.
the familiarity of Danilo with Garrido's helper reminds me of the sex scandal of season 2, was this that guy, does anyone remember?
I think Montañ is on a mission, he loves doing evil but it has to be at another s direction or else he would feel responsible.
looks like Epi is on self-destruct.
I don't know if it's a good idea to give a gun to someone who is afraid of them.
thanks Juanita about your "Higgin's Hideaway" observation, I don't think I saw anything 'usual' there.
I was reading an article on Mayan excavations and such and it seems only the temples and high profile places are explored while there is so much more left untouched that has been reclaimed by the jungle.
Thanks, Novelera. Nifty title and recap. Our Ecuador Team reminded me of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Mario’s mother was quite the dealer. That was my favorite scene - glad you covered what I missed from it.
Juanita, I didn't even notice the clock. Uh-oh...
In each country, we get a shot of a fabulous landscape. I'm sure each tourist board is applauding.
Lots of balls in the air. What will Bebita do with that gun? What will Vargas do with his gun? Do folks plan to haul away the contents of Higgins' hideaway? If so, in what? Who is Uriel? Where are Ernie and Charlie?
I'm thinking Epifanio is not there just for the proof. He might have carried the money incase things don't go his way. But IMO, the main reason he's there is to betray Teresa & team. And just use the proof for his personal gain(ambition)
I also think he might have sent Montaño to Colombia, for Sofia, so that he can have leverage over Teresa.
IIRC, before he left, Montaño was looking at his laptop, and was informing him of the whereabouts of each of the chips.
Anyway, I hope I'm wrong, and that Epifanio really keeps his word this time.
And since the opera episode, I've been having this bad feeling that Oleg might not make it to the final of this season. He even told Pablo to take care of Tesa. Last season he nearly died. I really hope they don't kill him off
Thanks for the recap, novelera.
Cell phone service in the middle of nowhere always mystifies me. Only time it fails is when it’s a matter of life and death. Yep, it’s a TN/dizi thing. That article clearly mentioned Teresa Mendoza and the Russian, Oleg Yasikov, but it only mentioned Pablo's alias, Felipe Larea.
I, too, am curious about Montaño. He had a weird look when Epi said he was going to Ecuador and then he asked to go.
I also noticed that clock counting down, Juanita. ITA that there’s a bomb that’s about to go off.
Love reading your informative comments, deb. There seemed to be something between Garrido’s helper and Danilo, but I don’t remember if we were supposed to remember something… does that make sense?
Niecie, your questions are my questions, too!
You could be on to something, mwendwaE, about Epi’s plans, it’s possible. Especially if there’s going to be a season 4. I hope your feeling isn’t right about Oleg. Teresa needs him for season 4. If anyone is expendable, it's Pablo Landero.
Do these people not watch movies? How can they enter a room like that and not be worried that the door will close and they’ll be trapped? Even if they don’t expect Epi, someone should be outside keeping watch. I missed the clock, though, so maybe a guard would be moot.
The mom was funny as she was adding up the expensive and (I think) added a fee for Batman having criticized Colombian coffee. Can’t really blame her for that.
Was Sister Prima bringing money to Faustino, et al? I though they walled it up so not sure how she’s get to it but she seems resourceful.
