Since no one has gotten the conversation started, I'll try to put up a bare bones quickie sometime soon.

reina3 Ep. #45

Julieta calls about the reward money. She says she can provide a copy of Teresa Mendoza's passport. Ernie tells her if it's useful, he'll call her back.

Various people on Our Team talk about what they'll do after this is over. Batman wants to return to Mexico and kiss the ground. Oleg says he wants to go somewhere away from civilization. Teresa says her plans depend on her daughter's, and also on Paloma, since she regards Paloma and her son as part of her family. Paloma seems delighted.

Ernie is impressed with the passport photo Julieta sent. He decides to go to Buenos Aires.

Sofia apologizes to Teresa for not shooting Matos. Teresa tells her, "I taught you to defend yourself, not to spray people full of bullets." Teresa admits that she has killed many people. "Did I like it? No. Did I have to do it? Without a doubt." Teresa also tells Sofia, "I was wrong about Mateo. Not only did he save your life, he also knows right from wrong." When Mateo comes into the room, Teresa hugs him. Sofia looks very happy.

General Garrido, in civilian clothes, goes to where he had planned to meet Aguilar. Instead, he encounters Montaño.

Aguilar is kidnapped (I think under Kozar's orders) and brought to the United States. His kidnappers want to know where Teresa Mendoza is. If he doesn't cooperate, he could wind up in prison in the US for the rest of his life on trumped-up charges ("Someone gave you a suitcase filled with drugs before you entered the US, enough to put you away for life.")

Ernie, Charlie, and a woman (Melo, from Interpol) are in Buenos Aires. They meet with Julieta, who brought Gallardo with her. She says they're working together. They tell Ernie that they'll give no more information without a guarantee of payment. They give Ernie more photos, taken with the hotel's security camera: Batman, Sheila, Fedor, Pablo, and Teresa, IIRC. Charlie recognizes Fedor as Oleg's son. Ernie tells Melo to mount an operation at the Mortati Palace.

General Garrido's aide gives him a typed note, which the General puts in an envelope. He says, "I hope we'll never have to use this." I don't know what this is about.

Sami tells Pablo that the key is at the Colon Theater (or something like that). It's a fancy place. If Pablo is going to come with him, he needs to be formally dressed. Sami wants to call his pilot (he'll be the one to whom the $30 million will be given).

Fedor is in the hotel lobby when a bunch of people enter (Melo's operation) saying they are looking for Teresa Mendoza. Fedor immediately goes to warn pepple. He races up many flights of stairs and starts knocking on doors. No one responds. Finally Sheila opens a door. He enters, saying, "We've been caught! Close the door!" With that, the episode ends.

I keep noticing a strange thing near the end of the novela's introduction. During the time the woman is singing, we see more scenery, including what looks like a very large dark object. It's oddly shaped, and I'm wondering whether it is somehow related to what the 3 keys would look like if they fit together.

reina3

Thanks, Juanita. Super job. You always bring such clarity. I took another look at the intro and agree that large dark object -- looks like the texture of coal to me and seems to rise out of the earth -- resembles the shape of the keys.

That scene with General Garrido in plainclothes running into Montaño on the street. Could the general have planned that, or improvised? The general carries a briefcase and asks Montaño to hold it while the general needs to retie a shoe. The general's aide, hidden near a tree, takes a photo of the briefcase as it's passing to Montaño, even though he returns it to Garrido and leaves. Garrido curses to himself as he walks away.

Epifanio worries that there must be an informer in the place for Aguilar to have been taken right after meeting with Epi's meeting with his cronies.

I guess Monday we'll get The Great Escape from the hotel.

reina3

Thanks VERY much, Niecie, for your interesting and insightful comments.

I'm glad that you, too, see a possible resemblance of the large dark object to the sahpe of the keys. It may be pure coincidence, but....

Hmm...I never considered the possibility that the General might have planned running into Montaño. And now I wonder whether the photos taken of Montaño holding the briefcase and shaking hands with the General are in the envelope into which the General places the typed note his aide gives him.

And yes, Epi is very worried that someone knew of the meeting planned between Aguilar and him. He suspects that there's an informer and is surprised, because he thought he had taken care of that problem with the death of Vanessa. Let's hope Montaño doesn't spot Bebita eavesdropping on another key conversation.

I hope you're right that we get The Great Escape on Monday. I doubt it will be easy--but almost none of Our Team's escapes have been easy!

Thanks so much for the quickie, Juanita. It was an excellent job of hitting the high spots and getting the comments rolling!

And you may well be right about the large object. The second key that we saw did not have the same shape as the one they got from Karen. So they likely fit together.

Of course Ernie and Charlie managed to be fairly nasty with Julieta and Gallardo. Ernie reams her for bringing someone else. And, he was pretty nasty when saying the U.S. doesn't waste money. They'd only get the reward if she was actually caught. Well...the U.S. has wasted plenty on Ernie and Charlie so far, presumably out of some slush fund Kozar has. She must sit on the Committee for Appropriations!

I am certain that Garrido's running into Montaño was deliberate. And that the General has some plan to get him out of the way by showing he's been bribed.

It certainly was fortuitous that Fedor happened to be in the lobby when they arrived. It's kind of scary, but no way is Teresa Mendoza going to be captured with some 15 episodes left.

I didn't really understand why Fedor knocked on those doors. Surely he knows that Pablo is with Sami and Teresa and his father in Peru. Unless a call was made that I missed, I don't think he knows they got another key and that Teresa is at Salvatore's tango "palace".

Speaking of the palace I liked the way Teresa sort of wiped the smirk off Sami's face, jerking that chair he had his feet on and then later saying something else that made him see the "Culichi".

MANY thanks, novelera, for another very perceptive set of comments.

I loved your remark about Kozar: "She must sit on the Committee for Appropriations!" Sigh. I wish that remark didn't resonate so strongly.

Well, if both you and Niecie are convinced that Garrido was acting very deliberately, I'm pretty much convinced, even though the thought never crossed my mind as I was watching the episode. And I guess that may relate to the scene that puzzled me most, the General putting the aide's typed note into the mystery envelope.

I think Fedor was operating in panic mode when he knocked on Our Team's doors. Thank goodness Sheila was there and opened the door. Perhaps she and Fedor can alert the others via cell phone.

Great description of Teresa's "Culichi" handling of Sami.

OT/TELEMUNDO:

Niecie: Do you know if "ESDLC" will be in the 9:00 PM CST timeslot come next month ?
