#58 – Parte 1 de 3

In Bogotá the despicable Charlie draws a big red X over Pablo’s face on a bulletin board with photos of Our Team. His slimy new partner says they took him down in Nicaragua.

The honest Interpol guy, Ruiz, says that someone else who died was Rocío Aljarafe. She was Sanchez-Godoy’s woman. He goes on to say that the priest told him she was killed by you (pointing at Charlie). Charlie shoots back that she was the woman of a narcotrafficker, allied with Teresa Mendoza, a fugitive from justice. “Do you think I should feel guilty, or afraid?” Ruiz replies that he didn’t say that to scare him (leaving guilt on the table).

I’m not positive where Our Team is. It might be the hostel, but I thought they paid off Rafa and said goodbye. But Mateo is in a total snit. He says he doesn’t understand why they had to involve Padre G. in this. Paloma tells him that they did not wish him to be involved. It was Sr. Margarita, who feared to travel alone, and asked him to come with her. Paloma says they didn’t know he was coming until it all went down in the square. He storms off anyway.

Charlie’s partner points out the photos of the ones they need to capture, including Fedor and Sofia, who are minors for Pete’s sake. Charlie says that the priest, the friend of Mateo (whose picture is also on the board), is their only lead.

Faustino, Batman, Oleg, Sheila and Teresa talk. Faustino refuses to have anything to do with Ernie. Teresa and Oleg say working with him is their only option to get rid of Vargas. Faustino replies that they didn’t kill his Vampi because of an order; they killed her because they’re gonorreas. [You tell ‘em, Faustino!] Oleg says that Charlie was the cause of Yulia’s death. He would happily kill him with his bare hands. And Palermo killed Jonathan. But he says they need to consider the situation right now.

In Mexico Susana asks Bebita if she knows who Epi’s allies are. She doesn’t. Bebita assures her she’ll find out. But, seeing her expression, she assures her she’ll be careful. Her son needs her.

Danilo tells Bebita that, thanks to Kozar, Epi’s bank accounts have been unfrozen. She says that Epifanio is having a honeymoon with those who are supposedly his worst enemies. She asks if Danilo can get some information about the meeting.

Faustino and Sofia try to talk to Mateo. Faustino says that he became fond of Gonzo and would have gotten him out. But the guy is stubborn. Mateo isn’t soothed by this, and grumbles about what might have happened during an attempt to free him.

Ernie and Sen. Garcia arrive. The Senator says they’re looking for…Faustino says he knows very well who they’re looking for. Ernie says something crappy to him. Faustino gets right in his face. ¡Ey, pirobo! (a very bad Colombian word for a gay man who’s on the receiving end) Escúchame, malparido! You know how to play the lottery, right? You have one ball down on your SOB head and, if you keep screwing around, you’ll get the other one. He tells him he doesn’t know how to say gonorrea in English.

#58 – Parte 2 de 3

Delio gives Arismendi the list of Mexican attendees to the big meeting. They’ll know the names of the ones from the U.S. tomorrow. Delio says he needs Arismendi’s name on the list. Vargas wants him there. Arismendi says he wishes the President would forget his name. [Sounds like his earlier gloating about all the lana he’ll get from another Epi term in office has diminished.] He tells Delio that the alliance with Kozar’s people worries him, but he’s more worried about the auction. He and Delio both agree that this could be very bad. Delio asks Arismendi if he doesn’t worry that the whole thing will explode. And the two of them might end up salpicados (spattered).

In Colombia Ernie and Garcia show Our Team the photo Ernie took while spying on Kozar during her meeting with the powerful men. If they can prove that these guys are involved in clandestine stuff with the DEA, Kozar would fall immediately.

Teresa brings up Uriel. They’ve been told in Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina that he is the power behind it all. Mateo says that he knows who Uriel is. They all turn to look at him. He tells them it’s the statue in the background of the photo. It’s a statue of the Archangel Uriel. Teresa catches on. That name is only a cover. They don’t work for Uriel; they ARE Uriel. They are the capo who runs drugs in the whole continent. They’ve killed people and suborned politicians.

Delio is in a tizzy arranging the big dinner meeting. Danilo has come in. He’s heard Epi wants a press release prepared announcing that his accounts are no longer frozen. When Delio turns his back to look out a window, Danilo reads his notes for the event.

In Colombia Ernie tells the group that, during a video call, Vargas proposed to Kozar that the pact be finalized in Mexico with her and the rest of them in attendance. He’s sure it will be soon because Vargas is eager to get it done. Teresa says they have to infiltrate that meeting and show people what these bastards are up to. Sheila starts to object. She says that she doesn’t know what kind of a marksman the senator is, but she’s only regular! Oleg and Batman both agree with Teresa. Sheila storms out. Teresa says they’ll leave today and Ernie agrees.

Batman talks with Sheila. He insists that he swore to kill Vargas. She tells him she’ll have the baby, but maybe she’ll be a widow and a single mother. She also says she’ll never forgive him.

Teresa says: Tenemos que apechucar (buck up, face the music). Ernie says that maybe they could get some help from that person close to Vargas that Garrido would never reveal to him. [Uh oh}

Susana comes to see Bebita who’s mopping off her chest from the juice Güicho spilled on her. Susana tells her that Danilo has learned the location of the meeting and that it’s tomorrow. Bebita approaches Susana, asking why she’s looking at her that way. Susana admits that she can’t forget the kiss. She says that she loves her skin, her eyes, her hands. Susana goes in for the kiss, but Bebita moves away.

#58 – Parte 3 de 3

Fedor rides again. He has some sort of map that shows the office of General Garrido. They want to have the hacker give them access to a camera to see who’s around Vargas. Paloma is going to try to find an org chart of personnel close to Epi.

Oleg and Teresa have a moment together and each holds the other’s hand. Fedor smiles and shows Sofia. He has gotten what he needs from the hacker, then assures Sofia there’s more than friendship between their parents.

What he's gotten from the hacker is a hacked security camera that will show who spends time with Vargas, to try to find out who was Garrido's inside man.

Fedor goes on to say he thought he’d never have wanted that relationship for his father; but that was before he met Sofia’s mother. He says something about the parents getting together and then the two of them…. She laughs him off; but, of course Mateo has overheard, He sort of throws the list of Epi’s personnel and photos at them and stalks out.

Faustino and Teresa talk. He tells her he’s not going to Mexico and she can guess why. She tells him that Palermo is like a stick hitting her ovaries, but he’s helping. Faustino says that he doesn’t trust Ernie. Teresa says that, if he weren’t indispensable, she wouldn’t have wanted him anyway. Faustino: “Don’t take your eye off him. I’m sure he’ll betray you.” He tells her he’ll take care of the “kindergarten”.

Bebita tells Susana to sit with her. She thanks her sincerely for everything she’s done for her. She respects her. She’s very fond of her. But she cannot return her romantic feelings. The only love she has left is for her son. She doesn’t want to give Susana illusions about something that won’t ever happen.

As the strike team gets ready to leave, Sofia asks that she and her mother pretend she’s going to the supermarket.

Sheila goes for a walk. Batman approaches. He tells her that his revenge against Vargas is no longer the most important thing in his life. Sheila is.

Teresa Oleg, Garcia, and Ernie are in the plane the Senator has arranged. Teresa says she’s happy for Sheila’s sake that Batman stayed. Oleg asks if she’s ever thought of giving up. She replies she’s thought of it often, but she knows she can’t. “My life, or the part of my life I don’t like so much, has been tied with Epifanio. And I’m fed up. It must end." She asks Oleg if he’s considered giving up. He replies that he’ll finish it with her and takes her hand.

Ruiz tells Charlie that no judge will authorize what he wants. “How can you get a search warrant for the house of a priest, a man whose career has been rescuing drug addicted kids?” Charlie: “Right!!! We only have to say that they’re trafficking drugs, and done deal!” Ruiz gives him another look as if he crawled out of a sewer. “You are really thinking of doing this?” Charlie just laughs and says that all they need do is grab up two or three to use to convince the priest to reconsider. Ruiz refuses. Charlie snarls that, maybe the priest might be a good guy, but he’s covering for a criminal.

Ruiz is glaring at him when his office phone rings. Mateo is calling in. Ruiz puts it on speaker. Mateo identifies himself. He says that the priest did nothing wrong. He offers to give himself up so they’ll set Padre Gonzalo free. And he offers to give them the information they need.

Whoa!

Gracias, Novelera. Awesome recap and I'm always down for learning new words. Thanks a bunch.

Bebita, uh, you knew from that kiss that Susana was into you, so why drag out -- and stand so close -- to give her a second rejection?

I'm surprised Batman stayed behind, but of course he could still be in danger, as they all are.

Both Oleg and Teresa and Fedor and Sofia as couples? Too cutesie for me. I just hope everybody is still standing at el fin.

Surely Mateo has a plan. He's seen with his own eyes these people shoot Rocio in the back and innocents at a church picnic. He'll turn himself in, but I don't expect him to turn over information (I don't think he has info that they don't already have anyway.).

reina3

Many thanks, novelera, for another terrific recap! And special thanks for all the Spanish that had gone right by me when I watched the episode. Though I suspect that some of it I'll never have the opportunity to use, a few of the phrases, such as tenemos que apechucar, I hope to add to my vocabularly.

I was somewhat surprised at the scene between Delio and General Arismendi. It's been clear for a while that Delio isn't happy with Epifanio's plans, but only in this scene did General Arismendi seem even more dissatisfied, at one point saying that he thinks Epifanio has lost his mind. Will the two of them actually band together to undermine Epifanio? If so, they'd better hurry--there are only two episodes left!

If I'm not mistaken, I think we all had the impression that Batman had left in the van with the others. So I was as surprised as Sheila when he appeared after the van had gone. I confess that I was touched when he told Sheila that getting revenge on Epifanio was no longer his top priority. "You, and only you, are the most important thing to me." I know this novela likes to be hard-nosed, but Batman and Sheila damn well better be alive at the end!

And it's not just Batman who admits his feelings in this episode. When Teresa asks Oleg whether he thinks of quitting, he says something like "A Russian never quits something he's passionate about." And he then adds what you've reported--if she wants to finish this, he's with her, and he takes her hand.

I loved the above two scenes, but they also made me very uneasy. There's almost always a very dark moment before the gran final. Will it be Mateo giving damaging information to Ruiz? Whether or not that's the case, will Mateo indeed give up his life for Sofia? (As it happens, I may not find out tonight. I've got to get up super early on Saturday to catch a plane, so I may not get to see tonight's episode until after I'm back. I'm hoping to be back in time to recap Monday's episode, but that depends on weather, planes, etc. Fingers crossed.

Again, many thanks, novelera, for this and all your other wonderful recaps!

reina3

excellent recap novelera !!! it's so nice how you melded the fine details into the big picture.

Mateos and Padre G live by a separate set of rules than Tesa's gang, but it has rewards such as Mateo spotting Uriel. What Mateo might give up is Tesa leaving for Mexico to join Epi's party or the location of Faustino, in one of Charlie's to-good-to-be-true deals.

it might be nice that Batman stayed back, he'll be a help when Charlie brings his reign of terror on the kindergarten.

novelera, in Faustino's lottery rant with Ernie the english caps used half-bullet in place of ball. Also, and I may have this cloudy area wrong, but I got the idea they wanted surveillance of Garrido's place to then compare with the list of people around Epi that Paloma put together.

I can't really see Tesa/Oleg and Sofia/Fedor homesteading in a little cabin in Siberia, Mateo may very well die saving Sofia, but I think Sofia and Fedor will just be good friends for now.

Telemundo has been busy parking the smaller characters but I worry about Paloma and her son Ray.

reina3

Excellent recap, novelera, this one and all the others you have given us. Thank you so much.

What is the purpose of having Susana in love with Bebita? Will she sacrifice her life for the First Lady?

So Uriel is a “they”. Google Archangel Uriel if you want. Interesting, but I’m not sure why they chose Uriel.

Okay, Batman stayed, but Charlie is in Colombia. Yeah, I’m also worried for everyone there now that Teresa and Oleg left. I am afraid Telemundo will break our hearts yet again. I want Faustino to make that “gonorrea” Charlie beg and wet his pants before he kills him.

I can’t believe what Mateo did. I’m thinking (hoping) like Niecie that he has a plan.

Looks like I will have an eventful ep to recap tonight.

reina3

Thanks, all. I hope those who think Mateo has a plan are right. I just took the simplistic view, that what he said about being devastated about the arrest of the priest who had actually served as his father was mostly an excuse to disguise his real feelings, jealousy and knowledge that Sofia would be better off with Fedor. Sorry. I've just become really tired of his dark looks and insecurity.

Thanks, Juanita, for putting in Oleg's line about Russians never quitting their passion. When I read the comments I often regret something I should have put in.

Dondi, I also had the thought in the back of my mind of Susana sacrificing herself. That's a common pattern in telenovelas. The pattern of a very nice other man or very nice other woman doing the Sidney Carton (other man in Dickens who goes to the guillotine to save the woman he loves' real love).

As far as Mateo having a plan, I don't think he's up to outsmarting Charlie.

Deb, you're right. That whole plan of Fedor getting a hacker was confusing to me. I suspect it is about finding people who might have frequented Garrido's office. But I don't see how this catches Bebita as the "inside man" since he came to her and/or they communicated on the toilet lid phone.

Dondi, I LOVE your image of Charlie wetting his pants and begging!

Niece, I suspect their having another scene of Susana getting close to Bebita was to cause Viewerville to wonder if Bebita might "switch sides".

reina3

Sorry, weekend work emergency this morning. My recap will be delayed.

reina3 #59 part 1

Sorry this is so later than I expected. I combined some scenes to hopefully make things clearer.

On the flight to Mexico, Teresa stares at a resting Ernie. She asks, what made you change sides? Why would they kill you? No answer. Hey, Palermo! I’m talking to you! Eyes still closed, Palermo answers, maybe because you don’t give a damn. Teresa does care. She says, I’d like to know what makes you question your own people.

Alright, Ernie replies, it was because of you. I had to change all my plans, even my entire life. Teresa doesn’t believe him. Ernie explains, Kozar never forgave me for not detaining you again. He assures her, don’t worry, there’s no reason to be afraid. I won’t betray you. Teresa warns him, you better not. Because I’m Culichi and we never forget. Ernie laughs and one ups her—okay, but I’m Sicilian on my father’s side and we’re a little more vengeful. [I can’t deny it any longer. Palermo is the capital of Sicily and icky Ernie is a paesan’, ugh.]

Teresa gives him a smile and they both raise glasses and drink. And for some reason Ernie decides to say he’s sorry about Jonathan. Of course, this elicits a strong reaction. Teresa curses him and Oleg is ready to jump out of his seat. Teresa holds him back.

This convo is interrupted when Oleg gets a call. Teresa is still glaring over at Ernie. It’s Paloma. She and Fedor have been doing investigative work. They found someone who works on Vargas’ staff. It’s the person who visited General Garrido. Fedor sends a video from security cameras at Garrido’s office. Paloma says it’s Epi’s press secretary. Oleg and Teresa take a look. Teresa recognizes him—it’s Danilo. I know him.

Teresa calls Danilo. Why are you calling me, he asks. Because life is a bitch, she replies, and it’s made our paths cross a second time. He doesn’t understand. Made our paths cross? Teresa clarifies, I know you are Garrido’s informant in the National Palace. Danilo is stunned at first then asks, who told you that? Not important, Teresa answers, what matters is that it’s true. Am I wrong?

Danilo asks, what do you want? Teresa says she wants his help. Danilo snaps back, why would I help you? Well, first, I helped you, she replies. Danilo sees it differently—you didn’t help me. You kidnapped me. (We get some flashbacks to season two. Ha, a Lupo sighting.) Teresa admits that but says thanks to that, you realized you were being lied to. To me, that means I helped you. (Now we flash to Danilo’s interactions with the dastardly Alejandro, who admitted he had Danilo’s cousin killed.) Teresa continues, second, if you were giving info to Garrido, that means you, him and me want to take down Epifanio.

Back in Colombia, Mateo and Sofia have a heart to heart. He starts, when we were in Cusco, I told Faustino I wanted to be a backpacker. Sofia makes a face. Mateo says, don’t tell me you wouldn’t like to travel the world. Sounds great, she replies, but we have to make a living somehow. There will always be jobs, he tells her, although I’d like to work as a volunteer… for people and animals. [maybe Mateo would make a good priest, like Padre G?] Sofia says volunteers don’t get paid. Mateo answers, but they always have food. Look at Padre G’s missionary friends. He laughs, they are all fat.

Mateo asks Sofia, what would you like to do when this is over? She doesn’t know but it’s not to be a backpacker. She explains, I spent my entire life going from one place to another. I don’t know where I belong anymore. The same happens to Fedor. Sigh from Mateo. Sofia continues, he doesn’t know if he’s Russian, English or Spanish. And if you ask me where I’m from, I wouldn’t know how to answer.

reina3 #59 part 2

You two are very much alike, Mateo notes. Sofia says that’s what she wanted to talk about. I don’t know what you saw or heard, but I promise it was all a joke. Mateo says she doesn’t have to explain, he trusts her. He tells her, I’m only saying what I see, that you have a lot in common.

A brief awkward pause and Mateo continues, do you know how much I love you? Sofia replies, of course I do. Why do you ask? Mateo pulls her in for kisses, then says, because I don’t want you to forget it. He asks, do you promise? They hug. She smiles, he looks a bit pained. [ugh, this is his despedida]

Danilo tells Bebita and Susana about his convo with Teresa. Epifanio betrayed her, Bebita asks. Yes, Danilo replies, she told me that as soon as she gave Epifanio the evidence he needed, he ordered her to be killed. Bebita asks if he knows what evidence Teresa had. He doesn’t but he supposes that it’s sensitive and important info about the US government, the DEA, FBI, the White House, it’s officials and it includes Sen. Kozar.

Bebita makes a connection. Epi is using that info to blackmail Kozar. She asks how did Teresa find out about the meeting? Again, Danilo doesn’t know. All Teresa said was she wanted to be there to take down Epifanio and Kozar. She’s determined, he says, she asked me to find out where and when it’s going to be and help her get in. She needs our help and that’s why she reached out.

Bebita asks if Teresa knows she's the contact. Danilo says no, he wanted to speak to her (Bebita) first and get instructions. Susana asks, what are we going to do? Bebita thinks for a second then answers, we are going to do what she says.

Cut to La Reina’s plane. The meeting is tomorrow, Teresa asks with some alarm, why so soon? It just is, Danilo replies, it’s in the afternoon. Could you be more specific, Teresa asks, time, place? Danilo says he will give her that information when they meet in person. When is that? It’s a bit complicated, but Danilo says he will send the information she needs to her phone. He hangs up on her.

Charlie is wondering about Mateo. Is it a set up? What if the kid just wants us to release the priest? Ruiz doesn’t think so because the kid sounded unsure. If it were a plan, he tells Charlie, he’d be more decisive. Charlie asks about Padre G’s transfer. Ruiz says the transfer is scheduled first thing in the morning. Charlie says they need to stop it. Ruiz replies, he’s already in the system, we can’t just release him. We need to talk to a judge and get auth.

Charlie urges Ruiz to break the rules. We can do it. What’s at stake here is very important. Ruiz looks as if he’s had enough with Charlie [and we don’t blame him]. Charlie continues, I’ll get this done with just a few phone calls. All you need to do is keep the priest from being transferred. [I think if Faustino manages to kill Charlie, Ruiz will thank him.]

Faustino walks up on Mateo and startles him as he’s writing something. Faustino laughs, did I scare you? Do I look like Chucky? Then he gets serious, look kid, you know that there are some decisions in life that you can’t reverse. And when you f--- up, you f--- up for life. Mateo wonders why Faustino is telling him this. Faustino says, you understand, you’re not stupid. Mateo is busted. We don’t get the rest of that convo, but do you think Faustino will set up a plan with the kid?

Kozar prepares to leave for the trip to Mexico. We see Owen waiting for her. He’s watching a video on his phone. Guessing it was related to the circulating St. Teresa (can't remember who coined that, but thanks) story. Maybe someone else can tell. Kozar calls him out, I didn’t know you were the type of person to watch those videos. He says, it’s impossible to not to have watched it, it’s everywhere.

reina3 #59 part 3

Owen asks, what information have your people managed to get on “La Reina”? Kozar replies, she’s in Colombia looking for her daughter. We’re confident now that she’s not Vargas’ protégé, we will be able to catch her. Kozar asks Owen about the “others”. He says they are already in CDMX. She says she’s justified the reason for her trip and asks if the others have made any comments she should know. Owen replies, other than being very nervous, nothing.

Bebita is determined to help Teresa and Susana is alarmed. She calls her by her first name—Genoveva, you don’t even know what she’s planning! Bebita shoots back, whatever it is, I’m going to help her, understand. It’s my last chance and I can’t miss it. It’s now or never. What if Delio doesn’t agree, Susana worries. I’m not going to give him a chance to turn me down, Bebita replies. She asks Susana to find a company that will help them and to tell Danilo to contact Garrido’s sergeant.

Delio is sweating the details of the very important meeting. He’s arguing about the food and decorations with someone on the phone. Bebita enters and notices the wound on his head. He plays it off as too many beers. Bebita tells him that Epi asked her to help with the catering. He asks her if she knows anything about vegan food. She only knows she doesn’t like it. He tells her she’s hired. She asks him for a list of suppliers, and she’ll get down to work. He’s grateful for her help.

Sofia wanders into the kitchen where Sheila greets her good morning. Where’s everyone, Sofia asks? Fedor, Faustino, and Batman are getting equipment and Paloma is getting ready. Sofia asks, where’s Mateo? Sheila doesn’t know. He’s not still sleeping, his bed’s been made. Sheila thinks he might have gone for a walk. The matter with the priest has him very upset.

Sofia notices a note from Mateo. We hear Mateo’s voice, “Hello Sofia, I would have liked to tell you this in person, but I ended up deciding to write. I know that if I saw you, I’d change my mind and I don’t want to change my mind.“ We see Mateo walking into town. Charlie spots Mateo as he’s heading towards the plaza and asks for confirmation that no one is following him.

The letter continues, “I always thought that two people loving each other… Sofia reads this out loud… the way we love each other, was enough for everything to work out.” Mateo continues the letter, “I thought love would conquer all, but after everything that’s happened, I now know you need more than that.”

Meanwhile, Charlie contacts Andres, how’s your situation? All clear. Charlie gets out of his car. Mateo is confronted on the plaza and searched.

We hear more of the letter, “it hurts a lot to leave you. I’m not leaving because I want to. But I’m not blind. You and I live on different planets. That’s never going to change. Don’t ever doubt that… Sofia takes it from there, crying, …. I love you and I’ll never stop loving you.”

Charlie approaches Mateo and tells him he knows what was said to Agent Ruiz. Soon you will know what happened to the priest. In the meantime, I suggest you cooperate. Charlie gives the order to take Mateo.

Mateo signs off his letter… “Atentamente, Mateo Mena.”

Sofia cries and wants to go to Mateo. She wants him to tell her this to her face. Sheila and Paloma try to calm her. Paloma says he told you how he feels, there’s nothing you can do. Sofia falls into Sheila’s arms and sobs.

Teresa and co. go to a meetup with Danilo. Danilo enters with Bebita and Garrido’s Sergeant Avendaño. Teresa is surprised to see her. I understand you wanted to meet with General Garrido’s informant, Bebita tells her, that’s me. Double surprise for Teresa, who asks her why. Bebita responds, I have many reasons. I wouldn’t know where to start.

reina3 #59 part 4

Teresa turns her attention to Sgt A. He remembers they met near the border when she had just fled from the US. Bebita says Sgt A was her father’s confidant as well. He can help.

Ernie opines, great, it looks like everyone here is switching sides. Bebita asks him, who are you? She doesn’t know Jay Garcia either. Ernie introduces himself and says he was the DEA contact for Garrido and her father. He adds, I almost suffered the same fate as them because of your husband and my ex-boss’s alliance. Senator Garcia introduces himself saying, I was Epifanio’s ally until he betrayed me like everyone else here. Next, Oleg introduces himself. Teresa interjects, he’s my partner.

Oleg asks how she got here and where is her security team. Bebita says the guards think she’s at a medical appointment on the top floor. She doesn’t have much time and tells them if this doesn't work out, she will be the only one to suffer consequences. She asks, I want to know exactly what you’re planning once you get into the event. Teresa says she knows this is very risky---but we are all willing to see this through to the end. Bebita steps closer to Teresa and holds out her hand. They shake on it.

Bebita says she has a plan that could work perfectly. The only people who can enter the meeting are guests, security, and service staff. While she explains, we see the happenings of the event day. We see a catering van. The plan is for you to replace one of the catering suppliers. Sgt A will supply the truck and uniforms and the food. We see our group dressed as caterers.

Oleg asks, do you know how the security system will work? Danilo speaks up, yes, Epifanio has doubled his security. This won’t be easy. Sgt A says they can expect several rings of security since the US embassy is involved. They will have their own security, too. Ernie asks about being searched. The sergeant says everything will be searched—the truck, you and boxes with kitchen utensils. We see Sgt A showing our guys everything in the truck.

Teresa asks Danilo if her will be there. He says no, they don’t want cameras or press. Only the first lady will be there. Bebita explains they will get access badges like everyone else. Oleg asks about getting out once they install the equipment. Kitchen staff is the last to leave an event. It would be suspicious if we leave before it’s over. We see our guys getting into the van with masks in place. [Even with masks, I worry they will be recognized.] Sgt A says he will help with that, but they will have to change clothes. Bebita doesn’t think she will be much help on the inside, but she will do what she can. Anything would be of help, Teresa tells her. We see our guys head off to the event.

Ruiz tells Padre G he’s released. Padre is shocked. Released? Why? Let’s say the circumstances have changed, Ruiz replies. Padre answers, you said I could leave if I cooperated. I don’t understand. Ruiz says, I know you don’t, but you will.

Ruiz opens the door and Mateo enters. Padre looks like he’s seen a ghost. Mateo, what does this mean? Mateo is glad that Padre is okay. Ruiz tells them they only have a minute. Mateo tells Padre that he did what he had to do—owned up to what he did. Flashback to Charlie and Mateo. He tells the kid, we did our part, now it’s your turn.

Padre G can’t believe Mateo turned himself in. He asks, is that why I’m free? Mateo nods. Padre is upset with Mateo. What were you thinking, he asks, you didn’t have to do that! What will happen to you? Mateo repeats he did what he had to. He tells Padre, I couldn’t let you pay for something you didn’t do. Cut back to Charlie telling Mateo, for your own good and the priest’s, don’t give me any BS.

reina3 #59 part 5

Ruiz comes in and tells Padre G it’s time to go. As he’s pushed out the door, Padre promises to get Mateo a lawyer and get him out. I’m not abandoning you, he tells the kid, please pray a lot. I’m coming back for you! Mateo thinks back to Charlie asking, where are your friends? We don’t hear the answer.

Meanwhile, Sofia worries about Mateo. Fedor and Faustino return. Fedor asks about Mateo—he just up and left? Sofia says all he left was a letter. What is he doing? Where did he go? Sofia replies, he didn’t say. All he said was he didn’t feel comfortable here. By the look on his face, Faustino knows more.

Charlie is in contact with someone. He says Team Delta in position, downtown Bogota. Andres asks, how long did Mateo say they were hiding there? Charlie says all he knows is they rented a place there.

Sheila says the problem is the police are looking for him (Mateo), too. Sofia laments… if he would’ve talked to me or given me a chance, I could have convinced him.

Charlie gives orders for the raid. His team advances and enters a house.

Faustino says, nothing you would have said would have made him change his mind. Why are you so sure, Sofia asks. Sofia gets it and asks Faustino, he turned himself into the police? Faustino can’t meet her eyes. Sofia is upset, you knew and you didn’t tell me?! Faustino explains it was the only way he could help the priest. Sofia wonders why Mateo didn’t tell her. Faustino says because you wouldn’t have let him.

Charlie’s team moves quietly the house. Just as they burst through a door. Batman bursts into our group’s room, exclaiming, Sheila, aren’t you going to help me? She tells him to shut up… don’t you see…

The place Charlie broke into is empty. Charlie goes nuts. Search every inch of this place! We are happy Charlie is foiled again.

Sofia continues venting on Faustino, you should’ve told him it was a terrible idea! Faustino interrupts her, you know me. I tried to convince him but he wouldn’t listen.

Flashback to Mateo and Faustino’s conversation. Faustino says, let me tell you something. When the cops get their hands on you, things will get complicated. You will probably serve jail time. Mateo is aware. But he can’t let Padre G pay for something he didn’t do. Besides, I already called the police, he says, there’s no going back now.

Faustino asks Mateo, do you think the cops believed you? Mateo nods. Faustino tells him, listen carefully to what we’re going to do. You’re going to say this to save yourself. You have to make them believe that the information you have is valuable to them. Otherwise, they will go after the priest again. Mateo asks, what do I give them? Faustino replies, clues. Clues to catch me. You have to tell them you’re doing your part and giving them valuable info. I’ll do the rest and outsmart them. You think they’ll believe me, Mateo asks. We’ll see, Faustino says with an encouraging smile.

Back in the present, Faustino says, that kid did all of that to save the priest and to protect us. Faustino asks and answers his own question: What does that make him? Bacán! Sofia says she understands. But what good does this do for her? She walks out of the room. Faustino says he’s the one that needs to fix this because he’s the one who helped Mateo.

Epi’s getting ready for the meeting and hurries Bebita to do the same. She tries to get some information out of him. I didn’t know a meeting with gringos would put you in such a good mood, she says. Who says I’m in a good mood, he replies. Can I know what this meeting is about, she asks. Epi says it’s about improving relations with the gringos.

reina3 #59 part 6

I didn’t know you cared about the gringos, Bebita answers. I don’t, Epi admits, but it’s good to have to have a good relationship with them. Good for who, Bebita asks. Epi says it’s for Mexico, what else. [and we know that Epifanio thinks he’s synonymous with Mexico] We have to be good hosts. She tells him, you can count on me, Epifanio.

Ha, we see Teresa downing a shot of tequila. She speaks to Fedor from the truck. She tells him they are 10 minutes away from the event and asks if everything is ready. Paloma is helping out, too, and tells her they are finishing up the list of her most loyal followers. Oleg reminds them this needs to go viral in a matter of minutes. No worries, Paloma replies. Teresa asks for Sofia and they make and excuse for her not being around. Teresa says they will install the microphones however they can. As soon as these *bleeps* start talking crap, you start broadcasting.

Bebita says goodbye to Guicho with a big kiss and a hug. She tells a nanny to listen to Susana’s orders as if they come from her. The nanny takes Guicho to eat. Susana assures Bebita that she will take care of Guicho as if he were her own. Bebita says, if anything goes wrong… Susana cuts her off… nothing’s going to happen. Everything will be okay. Yes, Bebita replies, that’s what I want most. But if anything goes wrong, please don’t let Epifanio keep my son. Is that clear? Susana responds, Danilo and I know perfectly well what to do. Don’t worry. Bebita thanks her and leaves.

Teresa and co. arrive at the event. Everything is inspected. Teresa cautions an unmasked guard not to breathe over the food. He backs off. A guard gives them a paper, tells them where to park by the service entrance. One obstacle cleared.

Our group enters the kitchen. Teresa tells the chef, they are in charge of the flowers and hors d’oeuvres. The harried chef barks at her, why are you just getting here?! She apologizes for being late and asks for a place they can work. He immediately sends them to a storage area, where our “caterers” remove the cleverly concealed microphones and cameras from food containers and strategically place them in the flower arrangements.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Avendaño and two other soldiers, approach a couple of guards on the grounds. He asks, how many of you are in charge on this side? Just us two, is the answer.

Oleg asks Fedor if he can see anything. Fedor says he sees six cameras connected and hears Oleg loud and clear.

The event guard says that replacements are coming at 17:30. Sgt A thanks him and his guys knock out the guards. The order is given—disarm them and hide them behind the trees. Hurry!

Our caterers have also smuggled guns and tuck them into their clothing.

Sgt A hides the bags he was carrying along with the guards’ weapons in a container in a gazebo on the grounds.

Our group head out to the event space. Ernie says, there’s the possibility that they’ll discuss their pact while they are eating and not now. Teresa says Bebita is going to sit with Epifanio at the main table. He won’t say much in front of her. Oleg reminds the others to hide their faces as much as possible. [we’ll see how well that works.]

They enter the floor and Teresa comments that there are so many people there. Ernie doesn’t think the cameras and microphones will cover the entire area. Oleg says it’s important to distribute them well and hope that Fedor can filter the sound. Teresa asks, ready? This is about to begin.

And we are out and on to the gran final!

My last LRDS3 recap. Many thanks to my awesome recapping partners, Juanita and novelera, who took on the bulk of the duties and did their usual splendid job. Thanks to all who commented. You make this so enjoyable and worthwhile. Hey lurkers, don’t be afraid to join us on the next one.

Another fantastic and well written recap, dondi! Thanks so much. The details were terrific. I realized when reading it that some things went right by me.

I enjoyed the callback to Danilo and Teresa's interactions way back when.

Can't help but notice the irrational things that happen in novelas. How in the world would Teresa have Danilo's phone number? Not sure how long they were in Australia (two years before Ernie caught up with her?) and then four years in a supermax. Not to mention she dropped a phone while escaping from Teatro Colón that would have had her contacts.

I paused my screen and looked closely. Sure enough, Teresa was drinking Honor Tequila, Kate's brand.

The plot is interesting. They plan to broadcast the skullduggery during this meeting so everyone knows how crooked Kozar is. And the mention of Teresa's Fan Club is interesting as well. Seems like the plan is for Teresa to somehow be exonerated with the help of all her social media followers.

I enjoyed the handshake between Bebita and Teresa. Two strong women with a mission.

I'm still nervous about all the foreshadowing of Ernie betraying her. I can clearly see a motive. If Kozar goes down and he managed to get Teresa back in the supermax, he could end up the head of the DEA. But that is not how La Reina del Sur seasons end up. She and Sofia and, dare I hope, Oleg end up in some idyllic place.

Reina 3

Thanks to all, for the recaps. I have been recapping on the Uni side of the blog and wasn’t able to keep up in real time but I enjoyed the recaps as I binge watched on the weekends. Hope to see the last episode on Monday and Epifanio get his. “La Reina del Sur” in its totality has been one of the most entertaining series I have ever seen.

wow dondi, this was even better than your normal super recaps, there was so much more here than I experienced when I watched. I can truly appreciate all the time you put into this, thanks !!!

is ex druggy, drinking, frail, Bebita up to the task, Tesa's respect for her says so.

guns in the gazebo, must be part of an exit plan.

Saint Uriel, "archangel of wisdom", I'm surprised the whole gang is here in Mexico, especially with Epi holding all the cards.

odd that Senator Garcia is one of the commandos, and then there is Ernie, I can see him standing over the Ice Queen with a gun to her head with his smug look, but I'm not seeing where he could care less about anyone else.

will the cartels be coming?

and where is Sofia? I'm sure Charlie isn't done yet.

Thanks, Dondi. Your recap is a blast. I hope by now you're getting plenty of rest from a long workday. I am so grateful that you and all our recappers have been so generous in sharing your time and talents.

I haven't watched the episode yet. I am looking forward to seeing Charlie foiled again. Mateo is heartbroken, but not vindictive. Thank goodness Faustino read where his head was at. I'm glad at least that Padre G is free. But Charlie is so dirty...

I have no techie expertise, but broadcasting Epi and Kozar's meeting sounds like pure genius. I can't wait.

Novelera, how phenomenal that Teresa still has Danilo's cell number after all these years.

Deb, nice to see Bebita rise up after being broken so long.

Yikes, I can't believe there's only one episode. left.

OT...Does anyone know What shows are coming next on Telemundo?

reina3

Thanks everyone for your kind words and comments.

novelera and Niecie, I also wondered about Teresa contacting Danilo so easily. Then I thought maybe a presidential press secretary is easy to find. Who knows? Fedor could have found his direct number.

novelera, I, too, enjoyed seeing “Two strong women with a mission.” The portrayal of women has been great throughout the seasons. Your theory of an Ernie betrayal is possible as you explain it, especially if we are getting a season 4.

Nice to see you here, Jarifa. Glad you enjoyed the recaps. Wish you could have spent more time with us, because your comments are as great as your recaps. ITA, this is one of the most entertaining series I have ever seen—I’ll add, in any language.

Deb, I see you read up on Uriel. “will the cartels be coming?” – that would certainly add an interesting wrinkle. I agree, Charlie’s not done yet. He has a date with Faustino.

Can hardly wait for tonight.

OT Susanlynn

I miss being on the patio with you! Ugh, Telemundo is giving us season 8 of El Señor de los Cielos. They haven’t mentioned what will replace the 10p dizi, Amor y Traición.

Engin and Demet have started filming “Adım Farah” (My Name is Farah), which they say is “coming this winter.” I’m eagerly awaiting the first trailer.

OT...I miss sharing a novela with you and the others here . I miss the dizis.I love them. Maybe I will have to find one online . I need something to perk up this cold, dark winter !!!

"ESDLC 8":

Dondi356: Get used to seeing Aurelio Casillas & Co., upping the ante even further against their opponents.

Big question is whether Crazy Jaime Rosales becomes Mexico's next President ?
