Inside the cell block, Jerm enters is complaining as he is thrown into a cell full of hecklers (not quite the private cell he demanded, huh?) who push him around and pull down his pants. Lo and behold, Gael has turned into Mr, Righteous and tells the group to stop adding the Jerm is a human being (he is?), he should complete his sentence without any more torture. The others laugh (along with me) and they start striking at and pushingJerm like a punching bag while one of the men makes sure Gael keeps away.
At the police station, Leona and Josefa are shown pictures of the remains of Calixto and Columba. Leona turns away while Josefa expresses horror quite well. Leona asks Flor if they could link the murders to Ramses, so Lola replies that they don’t have enough evidence. The agent assures that they are trying to track Ramses down and he (Ram) will soon be taken down. Leona pleads with Flor to find him quickly so he he can pay for all of his crimes.
Now at home, LeoMar is with Saint David and tells him he has been a true father to her son; he gave Ben life and so much happiness. David has a flashback of Ben as a little boy who tells him he is scared. David comforts him and lays down with him as he tells Ben that he inherited the soul of his marvelous mother, an extraordinary woman. And he (David) swore to give his life for him because he has loved him since he was born. In the present, LeoMar doesn’t know how to thank David for all he did for so many years and continues doing so now. David tells her that Ben has always been like a son to him; and now together they have complete happiness. Leona caresses his face and smiles and ponders how they left their essence back in Puerto Palms. David thinks they should recover it together, but LeoMar thinks he never abandoned it. Clara approaches and thanks “Marena” for forgiving her way of being, she judged her wrongly. LeoMar tells her that they have lived through difficult times and they all deserve a second chance. David comments that he knows peace will return to their family. He then calls out to Jacinta who has breakfast ready. As they walk past the living room, we see Silvano singing and movin’ to the groovin’ with Lili who is wearing Silvana’s red wig. Lili tells Flor and Silvano that she likes learning about Silvana La Capitana very much! After Lili leaves to go color with her cousins, Silvano thanks Flor for allowing him to be part of their lives; he feels complete now that he has reconnected with his daughter. Flor remarks that he helped them open their hearts and their minds.
Matias tells Jacinta that her daughter (Lola) will be able to go through the (legal) process while being free. Jacinta hugs him as she thanks him; she tells him that Lola will be a different person since she is truly sorry. Matias thinks Lola will be very proud of Jacinta since she has completely a semester at the university. Jacinta then reminds him of her wish to open her restaurant and shows him how the kids are helping her by painting a sign for her future restaurant “Quesadillas U La La”! Everyone then sits to have breakfast. Soon after, LeoMar gets a text and announces to Ben that a cornea donor has been found and his operation needs to be done immediately! Everyone claps and cheers for Ben.
Josefa visits Gael and shows him something to motivate him—a magazine with her, LeoMar and Camila on the cover as women who are leaders. Gael smiles as he gets teary-eyes ( but he doesn’t cry!). Josefa tells him that she knows they still have a long way to go, but they have gotten the company out of the crisis. Gael nods as he proudly comments that AnaJu’s foundation helped give the company a good image. Gael new that LeoMar would be a good director for the company; and he is glad that Josefa and Camila have forged their own destinies demonstrating how talented they are. Josefa pleads that Gael allow the attorney to find a way to reduce his sentence…they can’t live without him.
Camila thanks Marco for supplying information that will help Gael. After she adds that he has been a good support , Marco tells her that he did it for them…for her...and he kisses her!! Which she enjoys and reciprocates.
LeoMar and David are walking arm in arm up on the roof. David tells LeoMar that she is talking to the new director of Child Inclusion. LeoMar is proud of him, especially since he will open his own clinic…he has the biggest heart! He then tells her that they have spent weeks getting to know each other again and shows her the romantically decorated dinner he prepared. LeoMar is totally impressed. Without hesitation, David pulls out the engagement ring and asks if she would agree to have a family with him and this time, get married. LeoMar softly tells him that had it not been for his strength, she would not have gotten her children back (that’s gratitude!)…for that and more, she accepts! She does want to form that family with him. They kiss passionately after he declares he loves her.
LeoMar goes to see Gael and tells him that Ben is very excited because he will be operated on in a few hours. Gael is excited too and asks her not to worry; he is sure Ben will come out fine. He then adds that when one is there for so long, one looses track of everything, but every time he thinks of her, every time he remembers her he brings her peace, just like when they first met. Leona tells him that his good behavior will reduce his sentence; he will soon be out of there! Gael nods as he responds that they will be able to hug their children as well as his own children. LeoaMar then becomes solemn and tells him that she needs to tell him something and it’s important that he hear it from her—David and she are getting married. Gael congratulates her; she deserves to be complete. He slowly hangs up the phone and walks away…as does LeoMar.
At the hospital, Ben has had his surgery and the doctor slowly takes off the bandage. Ben is told to close his eyes, then open them slowly. Ben first sees shadows and states that it’s like looking into the sun. When LeoMar asks if he can see them, Ben replies, “Itseems like I'm looking a the sun...I see your face, mamá!”
At David’s house, Jacinta enters with a big smile while Lola walks behind her with head hanging down. Lola tells everyone that she missed them very much. After they engage in a group hug, she asks that they forgive her and expresses how sorry she is. David remarks that life is about recognizing our mistakes and mending our ways. Lola hugs Jacinta and thanks her for not giving up in her despite d her being such a bad daughter; she is proud to have a mother like her. Jacinta knows that Lola is a new person; she will complete her public services and return to school, she will be very happy!
(Skipped scene) LeoMar hugs David telling him that though they didn’t get justice, she is very happy to see their family smile. David feels the same, especially when they will be husband and wife in a few hours!
Over at Puerto Palma, Ramses arrives at the shipyard and calls Gael with a visibly trembling hand and tells him he wants to be the last Gael hears; Ramses hopes he enjoys his passing to the next world. Big bald guy retrieves a small knife from his pocket and is getting ready to strike Gael in the back when Jerm (of all people!) yells out to Gael telling him he is going to get stabbed! Gael quickly turns around and, adrenaline at its peak, grabs BBguy’s wrist so forcefully that he drops the knife and Gael punches and head butts him until he falls to the ground! Gael scowls, “if my father wants to kill me, he should do it himself! I’ve paid my price and I and no longer bound to Ramses’s orders!” Gael then tells for the guards who quickly haul BBGuy away.
Back at Puerto Palma, Ramses asks his minion if they were able to recovery he merchandise that couldn’t be sold. He walks over to the group of girls and tells them that some of them may have already known him. It’s too bad hid reputation has been tainted and their buyers backed off, but he has a new client. The girls will help him escape from the country. He then tells the minion to prepare the merchandise for the sale; no one will keep him from his freedom and his empire. The minions then wash down the girls as Ramses sits and crouches in pain.
LeoMar is in a car dressed in her bridal attire with Ben and AnaJu at each side. As they exit the car, she tells them to go ahead and she won’t go anywhere until they return. As she sits by herself, LeoMar prays to her parents and sister to guide them along this new path. Just then, her phone chimes with a message; and as she sees it her smile fades. (Oh, noes!)
Back at the glass house, Gael walks in hurriedly shouting out for the family. He then sees the wedding invitation…and as he cleans up, he thinks he still has time to tell Leona that he loves her; he will stop the wedding!
(Skipped scene) David is walking into the church with Clara who tells him that the bride has arrived.
(Skipped scene) At the car, LeoMar steps out and thanks Lili who tells her she looks very pretty. AnaJu notices LeoMar’s somber look and asks if something happened. LeoMar assures that all will be well.
Inside the church, a young man sings the “Ave María” as Consuelo and everyone else await the bride. Consuelo pulls the veil over LeoMar’s head, then AnaJu and Ben walk an unsmiling LeoMar down the aisle to her awaiting and anxious groom. AnaJu asks David to make her mother happy; so David assures assure that he will and he will love her forever!
Meanwhile, outside, Gael arrives and runs up the church stairs as Ben states that he knows his uncle has loved LeoMar all his life and will do so until they are viejitos. As LeoMar looks at him dismally, David comments that they will be the perfect family because LeoMar is the most beautiful of all and he loves her with all his being. The priest starts the ceremony with the question about whether someone one knows why this marriage should not be allowed, and when no one speaks up, he continues to ask DavAdri if he accepts Marena for his wife. LeoMar looks at him sternly as he responds “yes.” When the priest asks Marena the same question, she looks at David who looks confident, but before she responds, Gael shouts out to her!
David turns to him and is glad he is now free, but adds that he has nothing to do there. Gael tells LeoMar that he has been released and asks everyone to forgive him, but he has to see LeoMar one more time before she married David. David reminds Gael that he opted to step aside and he should abide by his decision. Gael states that if that is what LeoMar decides, then he will leave. LeoMar looks at each of the men as Josefa looks on in anticipation. When they continue the ceremony, LeoMar puts down her bouquet, pulls back her veil and grimly declares she will not accept! Everyone is shocked and Clara demands an explanation! David reminds LeoMar that they were happy about their wedding, then asks if she wants to be with Gael now that he is free. LeoMar replies that she is saying “no” because of him. We then hear Columba’s voice and see the video LeoMar saw in the car showing how David conspired with Columba to separate Gael and LeoMar. David asks for an explanation; so LeoMar explains that she can’t marry a man who lied to her again; he never told her that he united with Columba to break up her relationship with Gael as if she and love were a trophy. David explains that he united with Columba so Columba wouldn’t hurt her! LeoMar replies that love will not be able to grow between them; it seems as if she us a prize that he was obsessed to get at all costs…betraying her, and betraying himself. David tells her he was in pain at the time, but LeoMar counters that pain is what she is feeling right now. She then announces that the wedding is canceled! She grabs Ben and AnaJu telling them to go with her. As they walk hurriedly out of the church, AnaJu and Ben express their support for her…and Gael shouts out calling to her.
Now outside, David and Gael do some head butting. David asks why Gael appeared now and why did he tell David to marry Leona if all Gael wanted was to separate them. “Because I’m not like you!” replies Gael, adding “I didn’t know about your alliance with Colomba!” After Gael scowls that David never cared about Marena’s happiness, he socks David hard and they start to rumble, but are quickly separated by Silvano, Marco and Matias. Gael runs after Leona calling out to her. AnaJu and Ben quickly hug him happy that he is free. Gael is very happy to see them too…and he is happy to see LeoMar too. He tells her that this could be three family; they could be together with their twins. He is the Gael that should have fought for and defended their love from the start and not lose out on the joy of being a family. He asks that she please allow him to return to her and to their children; they can form a family with a new marriage…together forever. As he finishes his plea, David approaches and cocks his head as if telling LeoMar “don’t do it.”
Leona gives her reply, “No, Gael. I’m sorry but I can’t marry you either. I have come to realize that I don’t need a man to be happy. I have everything with my twins. They are the ones that I choose and will choose all the days of my existence. Every year that I can form that family that I lost.” She looks at Benjamin and Anju telling them that they are her “amor invencible!” She then tells them tht at they should leave. She removes the veil leaving the crown on her head and gets into the car with her children following.
Days later…
(Skipped scene) LeoMar walks the beach at Puerto Palms with Benja and AnaJu at her side. She tells them that she would sell her fried fish on that beach. Ben asks how she would cry out to sell the fish so LeoMar demonstrates how she would sell the fish as AnaJu mimicking her and they all laugh. They then see a young girl, much like a young Marena, walking by yelling out trying to sell her fried fish. Ben tells LeoMar that she is loving, strong and the bravest of all! LeoMar smiles, happy that they say that; she knows that they learned their values from their mothers, Camila and Jacinta, and also David and Gael.
As they continue their walk, AnaJu brings up the trafficking of young women stating that there is much more to do. LeoMar worries that Ramses is still free, and her mission of justice is incomplete.
Time passes and we see a group of agents run up a platform where LeoMar, with Gael and David at her side, is telling agents that many years ago they couldn’t rescue the women that were in the hands of that maldito! So no one, not even they will stop them! When David suggests that they will need a distraction, something that will distract that sorry one, Gael offers to give them that time; he will confront his father, but they need to rescue those innocents! After the lead agent agrees and tells everyone that they shouldn’t lose more time, LeoMar and David get their equipment (that they picked up from Ninjas R Us!)
Now at the shipyard, Ramses is told that an intruder has been found! Gale is brought in and tells Ramses that he is there to confront him…just them, man-to-man with only their fists and none of his minions. Ramses asks what’s in it for him, so Gael replies that if Ramses wins, Gael will join him. But if Ramses loses, he will turn himself in! After he adds that only one of them will survive, Ramses spits. Elsewhere on the ship, David and LeoMar creep along with an agent behind them, LeoMar tells them they need to get them all out! As they make their way around the boat, Ramses and Gael battle it out. When Gael fall to ground, Ramses mocks that Gael will never reach to his level. Gael counters that the blind one there is Ramses; Gael allowed him to win. Gael spews that he is not weak, he is human! They continue fighting until Gael once again fall to the floor and Ramses pulls out and aims his gun at Gael, struggling to keep the gun pointed at Gael. Gael tells his father that he can die knowing that he (Gael) withstood the pain, but he withstood it to finish him off!
Somewhere else on the boat, David and the agents sneak up on some minions and subdue them while LeoMar opens a hatch finds the kidnapped girls. After she calls out to Adrian/David for a ladder, she goes down to the girls and recognizes Mirna, one of the cheerleaders. When all hell breaks loose and Ramses hears the shots being fired, Gael scowls that this is the sound of Ramses’s fall! The shooting continues, minions are shot…and LeoMar shouts that Ramses must not escape!! She runs to find Ramses while Gael tries to subdue Ramses but is accidentally shot in the arm by one of the agents! Ramses is about to shoot Gael but the gun locks so Ramses runs off.
After LeoaMar assures that Gael is okay, she runs after Ramses. And as she approaches him, she shoots him in the back! She walks up to him and pointing her gun at him, reminds him that she told him they would meet again! She continues, “You killed my parents and my little sister. You separated me from my children! Because of you, I was dead while living. You did away with everyone; and I will finish you off. I will take vengeance for all the cries of so many innocent. She yells as she is about to shoot, but AnaJu and Benjamin run up and yell at her not to do it!! (So not only are the three amigos allowed to participate in a take down, now kids are allowed on the site??? Ay no! Por favor!!)
Weeks later…
LeoMar is in protective gear from head to toe as she enters a quarantined area. We hear an oxygen machine as LeoMar tellss Ramses that he always claimed he was god. All of his money has been donated to various foundations to help victims of trafficking. His so called power was useless. Not even the doctors know what is wrong with him. We then see a decaying leg, then Ramses’s decaying arms and face. LeoMar continues that she was about to kill him, but the children he kept her from seeing grow up, kept her from doing it; his grandchildren reminded her that she is not like him! He is darkness and they are the light. I don’t hate you anymore Ramses. As LeoMar leaves, Ramses opens his eyes and silently pleads that she kill him.
Later, later…
Gael and David are on the beach awaiting LeoMar who has asked them to meet her there. She approaches and tells them that she could not end her trip without seeing them. They are a vital part of her life and will always have a special place in her heart. The three of them hurt each other very much, but most of all they did much good for each other. She addresses Adrian telling him he is the best accomplice that life could have given her…and an angel who saved her life. David assures that she can count on him always for whatever. He is very happy to see her fly. After they hug, she turns to Gael and tells him he was her first love; he will always be her children’s father, a strong man. Gael suggests that they continue raising their children with that courage she has; in the end, they will always be a family. LeoMar nods, hugs him and thanks him. Just then Benjamin and AnaJu run up and hug their mother showing her their tattoos…a sun on Benja's wrist and a moon on AnaJu. They did it for her. LeoMar laughs, then declares that Leona must leave so that Marena can return. She tells the twins that there they have their fathers so that they can guide them in their new journey, their new destiny. LeoMar then takes Ben and AnaJu on a boat ride as she silently thinks that her mom and her sun is what she needs to illuminate her nights. She loves them, with them she achieved her greatest goal in her life, to be a mother. They are her invincible love! And here , their story will begin…
Highlights from my very comfy couch . . .
Looks like we are on double episodes ad infinitum according to all of the schedules I have seen . Where is "La Rosa de Guadalupe" when you need it??? I want Uni to answer me that.
Anyway, this is what happened tonight.
PAULA decides that there will be no abortion for her. She loves her baby as she is. Rogelio agrees. Martina is grateful to her for saving her granddaughter. She sees Paula as being brave and respects her for her decision. They share a hug and cries. Paula tells Rogelio that Martina treated her as her mother would have.
Fidel tells ROGELIO they are buying illegal gasoline which happens to be from the same company that Ignacio uses. He had Ignacio's company hacked and there is no Iturbide listed anywhere. Rogelio is left confused because if Ignacio is trying to hurt the Iturbide family, then why is Fernando not named anywhere. Rogelio goes to file a complaint against Ignacio with the police. He shows the detective the video he has of an illegal gasoline delivery. The detective says he is going to need more proof than that. They arrest Ignacio who says he knew nothing about any illegal gasoline. He blames it on his legal representative. Rogelio visits him while he is in police custody and tells him to stay away from Fernando. He adds that he will see he is charged sooner or later. Ignacio spends the night in jail. The next day, Ignacio is released and stupid Fernando is waiting for him on the Ministerio Público's steps. Ignacio spirits him away and tells him they have no worries because he has a "legal representative" aka as a fall guy that he has paid off to take the fall for him if it comes to that. Ignacio signed for nothing. In the meantime, Rogelio and Fidel have brought Luis into the company to take care of some things because Rogelio is so overwhelmed and also to act as a buffer between Rogelio and Fernando. At the end of the episode. Rogelio confronts Fernando about the illegal gasoline deal. He knows that Fernando never got a loan from the bank for his down payment on his house. Fernando insists that he didn't know he was involved in anything illegal. Rogelio explains that Ignacio only got out because somebody fronted for him. Fernando asks why Rogelio is always demanding all of this info from him because he himself has secrets. Neither knows that Paula heard that last part about secrets out in the hall.
Nobody knows that Fidel has kept MARTINA up to date on EVERYTHING going on at the company. She confronts Ignacio in jail about why he would have wanted to hurt her sons. She warns him that he better go as far as he can from Morelia or she will make his life unbearably miserable. Ignacio is not having it. Didn't she know that Hipólito was playing around on her? He Ignacio is her stepson. Martina is shocked. Ignacio wonders how such a smart woman would not know that her husband was cheating on her or did she just pretend not to know so nobody would find out? He thinks everyone did know. He declares that the Monarca is defeated. The Monarca is dead. He laughs out loud and she leaves mortified. Unfortunately for her, Honorio confirms that yes, her husband had an affair with Irma but he made him promise he would say nothing to anybody. He assures her that he never told even his wife at the time and that nobody else knew about the affair. Martina cries, goes home, wonders about what her life has been and cries some more. Honorio goes home and is in a funk the rest of the day but doesn't tell anyone why. Martina has her lawyer come the next day. She tells him about Ignacio. He thinks she should tells her sons immediately. He tells her that if Ignacio is proven to be Honorio's son via DNA, then he would be entitled to his share of all of the Iturbide's property, business, etc. Martina decides to say nothing for now.
ROGELIO and PAULA have a nice picnic out in the country.
MARCO is completely depressed about his condition, drops out of his college program in engineering and gives up. He refuses to eat unless Blanca brings him his food. Blanca tells Martina how she is back at school, undergoing therapy and making a life for herself. She thanks her for letting her stay with her godmother. She asks Martina to allow her to help Marco in his rehab process. She didn't want to do anything behind Martina's back. Little does Blanca know that Marco heard her in the hospital saying how much she cared for him. He deletes all of his novia's photos from his phone. He knows Blanca would never give up on him. Martina has Blanca bring Marco his food. Blanca gives him hope that he will walk again. She asks him not to touch her. She will be back to see him if he agrees to give his therapy his all. He agrees.
IMELDA continues hating on Paula.
FELIPA and MELITON have their fertility test results explained. They both have problems that can be treated. Felipa has a vaginal pH that is affecting the sperm in a bad way. Meliton has a low sperm count.
That is all I got tonight. Feel free to add anything you remember that I didn't.
Rgv Chick, your finale was a treasure trove of wit, wisdom, and insight. Your beautiful writing shone like the brightest jewels, encompassing everything that was beautiful and sacred and that which was corrupt and poisonous.
“LeoMar”, “DavAdri” and “David get their equipment (that they picked up from Ninjas R Us!)” were among many pearls of wisdom strewn throughout.
Relief for the trafficked women (finally) being recovered. Justice in that Ramses’ end will be as gruesome as those he meted out.
This story began and ended with the sea; as the sun rose and set on the glistening water, life was lived and ended, love was born and died. The sand and sea began a tumultuous journey for our principals, Marena, Gael and Adrian. Benja regaining his eyesight and happily forming a family with Leona and AnaJu was wonderful and heartwarming. But alas Leona made this a closed circle.
“I have come to realize that I don’t need a man to be happy. I have everything with my twins. They are the ones that I choose and will choose all the days of my existence. Every year that I can form that family that I lost.” She looks at Benjamin and Anju telling them that they are her “amor invencible!” Such noble sentiments! Leona’s children as her heart and soul. So fierce, so righteous! Under other circumstances, this would have been a fitting ending. Here? A total cop out.
I felt for Josefa and Kika at the church, the pain evident on their faces, wishing, hoping for a miracle. And it did arrive – Gael mounting the steps outside the church, ready to reclaim the love of his life. But Gael was rejected again as was David (rightly so) for betraying Leona for aligning with Columba.
I am brimming with disappointment…
More later tomorrow but for now, a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful Rgv Chick who wrote the perfect summary as this story sinks into the setting sun.
Diana
Wow, RGV, talk about ending it all with a bang. Your contribution to Diana's recaps has always been appreciated, but this time you truly went above and beyond.
I have disliked David for the better part of this novela, but somehow Leona dumping him in such a public manner seemed unjust. Just proved that she can be as bad with him as she is with Gael. But no worries, she is still the perfect woman, she still gets her worshipping at the end of the show. There is nothing that she can possibly dobto make these two men see that she's not all that.
Better luck next time, guys!
The operation against Ramses was a joke. Once again we had Leona and David being front and center, leading the cops while they followed a very dangerous criminal. Really? And Gale gets shot and beat up again, too... rince, repeat.
I guess this is what we wanted, have Leona humiliate the two men who would give their lives for her, while she keeps her angelic aura and rides into the sunset with her kids.
And one last pet peeve: David had no place beibg in that last scene, but maybe it was part if Danilo's contract, to be in every scene, even in the one where Leona and Gael reunite their family ...platonically
More later
Thanks for recap
Good telenovela with interesting plot, good actors. Touched some sensitive problems (Human trafficking, police corruption, child abuse, school bullies ).
Very bad final episode.
Poor editing, looks like they cut out some important scenes.
Civilians involved in police-interpol federal operation, with children too, yeah right.
I am not team Galeona but writers could have done so much better job
with "I choose my children" finale.
From Great expectations to huge disappointment.
Leaving David at the oltar was unnecessary scene.
I didn't like Gael 's character from the beginning (he offered Marena money for abortion) but he redeemed himself in the end . Too bad that his unconditional love and support weren't enough to win over Marena /Leona once again.
I wonder what was the original plan for finale.
Well, at least she is not with David. Even at the very end he said he united with Columba so that she wouldn't hurt Leona. I believe Columba herself even said she no problem hurting her if that kept her away from Gael or something along those lines so that excuse is silly. Right from the start this seemed more like an act of jealousy and he should have admmitted it. But now, at first let's try and seem heroic.
That worshiping Leona still got was what pissed me off the most. The fact they made her so insufferable made it pretty hard to see the whole 'I don't need a man to be happy' ending as some kind of triumph and being oh so modern. I read an article after this finished airing in Mexico that had a tone 'those unsatisfied with this modern ending want those silly old telenovela endings.' I mean, at least write a likable protagonist and her saviour, then you can get journalists saying how dumb your audience is. Now they made Gael into such a nice character that he is the only main character I care about and would like to know what happens to him later on. I don't get what happened to the writers when it came to writing him. They gave him strength to face his father and yet it feels as though someone must dislike him even at the end.
They added five episodes and I'm still left with the feeling of something lacking. I don't know what it is.I also would like to know what happened to Camila and Josefa. I know they are fine, but I'd have watched that instead of Leona's speech to David about how wonderful he is.
So what was it that they thought we wanted? A modern ending? So why make it seem she was going to end up with David, especially when he was so easy to dislike by the end that I actually wanted them to end up together because I couldn't stand both of them.
At least Ramses gets a taste of his own medicine.
If only they had let Apolo live, then I'd have had one more thing to be happy about. But I'm still mad about all that praise Leona got. How is it possible to write a character in a way that makes you hate her and still insist everyone must say she is great. Saying it doesn't make it so, showing through actions is what counts. Maybe they gave up on the characters by the end.
RGVChick, that was such a splendid recap of the Gran Final!
Why so many cut scenes? And they chose the GRAN FINAL to cut scenes from? Idiots.
I am also disappointed, but at least they didn't make a cheesy ending with savior David. The ending would have worked (that's what I originally wanted to see) at first, but it just didn't make sense with the way the novela was written. We had half the scenes with the love triangle and "who will she choose" and we get... Nothing? I'm all in for modernization of telenovelas, but write it nicely.
Really? Not even the doctors know what Ramsés has? Such a lazy anvil.
Clara was extremely OOC in this episode. So now she apologizes to Leona? What? In a bit they'll be besties with Consuelo, the woman she wanted to kick out of her house.
Uh... Wasn't is obvious that he children were Leo's "amor invencible"? They act as if this was a plot twist.
Leona, David and the KIDS were in the police operation. Sure... Makes sense. I need a new beanie, mine popped off after this scene.
RGVChick, thanks so much.
In 2011, there was a tv series called "Revenge", with Madeleine Stowe as a main villain Victoria and Emily VanCamp as a lead female character Emily. Plot was similar to El amor invencible, without teenage pregnancy.
Started of great, cliffhanger in almost every episode. And, just like that, in the middle of the series, writers ruined storyline, totally ruined Emily and killed one of my favorite characters.
Of course it's no surprise paula chooses what she does. But I'm curious if they are going to do anything with this plot line or if it's there just to show Martina isn't always a nasty witch and go on about what a brave person Paula is. I have a feeling the baby will be fine.
At least Blancatold Marco not to touch her. I still don't like even the very idea of this romance. Why does she have to end up with a guy who at first clearly didn't respect her at all? Oh he 'saw the error of his ways' so he desrves her now.In a way it always felt disrespectful to me whenever they went for this' now he knows better' angle. I mean, surely a woman can find a guy who respects her from the start. She doesn't have to wait for the one who is an ass not to be one at some point.
I wonder what they have planned for Luis.
This telenovela has a bit too many things related to pregnancy.
Imelda told Rogelio about Fernando. She must expect to win some points here if she wants to risk making Fernando mad.
I do feel sorry for Martina. I wonder what she'll do now that she realised all her efforts to present this picture of an ideal family were for nothing.Having obedient servants has turned out to be a bad thing when they have two masters. I don't remember what else Honorio told her besides 'I was only following orders.'
Marco didn't like studying engeneering anyway so I imagine in the end he'll pick something else. I wonder what that'll be. But if all four brothers end up having kids at the end, I'll be awfully bored.
IMO, there are 5 things every telenovela has to have only the best of:
1) Main Plot
2) Secondary Plots
3) Characters
4) Casting+Acting
5) Gran Final
I'll rate El Amor Invencible based on these 5:
1) Main Plot - 6/10
As an idea: I liked the main plot. I love "revenge novelas" and I really liked her searching for her twins. I'm not a big fan of love triangles, but I thought we'd be more focused on the revenge than the love triangle. 8/10
Practically: I was a bit disappointed. The revenge plot wasn't written nicely, with some plot holes (Leona, at the beginning of the TN, said that she didn't want to involve the police and then involved it) and illogical things (Leona would have never been able to participate in the police's attempts to catch Ramsés). I like the search for her kids, I think this was written nicely. As for the awful love triangle... No. This was horrible and not only did it take SO much screen time (something, at least I, didn't expect), but it made no sense with the Gran Final (Leona didn't stay with anyone). 4/10
2) Secondary Plots - 4.5/10
As ideas: I'm not a huge fan of multiple PSAs in one novela, because almost always they're not written well. And this one had a lot (cancer awareness, LGBTQ+, drag, disabled people and others). The trafficking storyline was ok, I've seen that many times before. 5/10
Practically: The PSAs weren't written well, maybe because they were too many, I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of how the storylines were done either. Somehow, even though in some episodes the secondary plots took more screen time than the actual main plot, it was as if they were underdeveloped and left with gaps. 4/10
3) Characters - 6/10
As ideas: I liked the idea of the three main characters and the two main baddies. The secondary ones I wanted to see to be sure, but I liked them. 7/10
Practically: (Get ready. This is going to be a long one.)
Leona: she turned out to be an annoying egoist and a malagradecida. She only cared about herself and that was obvious through small scenes, usually (e.g. right after Consuelo's cancer removal surgery, she started complaining about HER problems). Plus, she didn't treat people that well (Gael, for instance, even AFTER she learnt he wants to help take down his dad).
David: he turned out to be like one of these scam ads that are trying to persuade you to click on them. Human analogy: he "loved" Leona (that was slightly obsessive later on), kept on saving her while aligning with a woman who so obviously hated her to separate her from Gael and got pushy and annoying when Leona "couldn't choose". He has some good qualities, but the rest are that bad that the good gets lost and the annoying stays.
Gael: at first he was annoying, at least in my eyes. But I liked his character arc. And, in spite of everyone accusing him of not stopping Ramsés, he couldn't have done anything because his father had people everywhere, including the police (who, by the way, were magically not in the police force that wanted to take down Ramsés at the end). A character that I liked, the writers though, not so much!
Ramsés: He was a complicated villain, since, while being a cold-blooded killer and human trafficker, delivered anvils to the rest of the baddies for... all the right reasons? I mean, they wanted to hurt his grandkids. I'm not defending him, I'm just saying that it was a bit odd to me.
Columba: She was a nice character (character, not person), if you exclude some OOC moments towards the end. No serious mistakes with her come to mind, except from wanting to hear her kids right before she died, which was odd, because she always treated them like trash.
General thoughts for the rest: Consuelo, in my eyes, existed just in order for them to make a PSA. She didn't get any major role, she was just... there. Same goes for Itzel. Kika suddenly turning good was kind of a stretch, but I'll believe it because she went through a traumatic situation and saw the people who really care about her. Something I can't really say for Lola, who knew what she was getting into, but out of the blue felt "regret" and "saw the light". Yeah, ok, whatever. As for Calixto, they really should have ended this relationship. It was disgusting (and freaking ILLEGAL) and this should have stopped ages ago. 5/10
4) Casting+Acting - 8.75/10
Casting: Great casting choices, I think every actor was spot on for their characters, especially the main ones (Leona, David, Gael, Ramsés, Columba + Josefa - not a "main" character but Lety Calderón slayed that role). 9.5/10
Acting: I really enjoyed the acting in this one. My absolute favorite acting was by Daniel Elbittar (Gael), Marlene Favela (Columba) and Guillermo García Cantú (Ramsés), having Angelique Boyer (Leona) as a close runner-up. Unfortunately, the acting couldn't save the story. 8/10
5) Gran Final - 7/10
Before the middle of the telenovela: The Gran Final we got was what I wanted to see, with some exceptions. 8/10
After the whole TN: It made no sense with the writing, especially after the first half. Lots of emphasis on "who will Leona choose" and she chooses... No one? It was kind of a disappointment, along with Ramsés's anvil. I mean, after mutilation+murder, getting roasted (no, not with the meaning "insulted") we get... Some disease no one knows about? And what happened to the secondary characters? We didn't get a clear picture, just a very foggy one. 6/10 (because it could have been worse).
Overall...
My final rating for El Amor Invencible is 6.45/10. Slightly better than average, could use many improvements.
RgvChick, I just watched the gran final and want to thank you for your most excellent recap. You did it justice! Given everything that happened, Leona ending up alone with her kids as her amor invencible was most appropriate. I was not a fan of the show but watched most of the novela just to see how it developed. The gratuitous violence, grotesque imagery and sordid mess of a plot were over the top for no good reason except to shock. I was surprised that it was on at 8:00 pm central and not later. The characters including Leona were for the most part unlikeable. One good thing about the novela was that it dealt with human trafficking both female AND male as one of its themes. Also, the casting and acting were first rate. I do admit I smiled when Emilio Osorio popped up singing Ave Maria.
Anon, I remember “Revenge”. Yes, it did have a similar plot but then developed what I still call the “revenge syndrome” where the same plot repeated over and over until its inevitable cancellation.
Uff I don't know where to begin , and my head is spinning. I feel woozy.
Dear Chickie, thank you so much for taking on this messy , bizarre finale .I hopeo you were able to get some sleep after writing your excellent account of the writers idea of " giving us what we wanted." What was scarier , dealing with a bobcat or recapping this finale?
I have a lot of Thoughts that I am having trouble writing at the moment , so I will just comment on a few things .
First, the message the writers seemed to send is that Leona needs Gael and David like a fish needs a bicycle . okay . She and they are allowed that opinion. However, then why paint both of these guys as totally devoted to her and her kids and good partners and fathers ?
Second, how did Leona get that security footage of David conspiring with Col to break up Leona and Gael? Who sent it to her moments before the wedding ?
Third, if this was supposed to be a " modern" version of a telenovela that we should accept if we were smart and modern, why did they depict both Leona and David as super heroes who LED the SWAT teams ? That is neither smart, modern, or believable .
More later after I let my ideas simmer.
Gracias, Jarifa. This was an interesting episode.
I can't agree with Paula's decision due to this information. Are these writers catering to a very conservative crowd or one that believes in miracles?
I do not miss LRdG, but why isn't Univision going back to something different at 10 rather than 7 if there will only be three novelas? Time slots matter less in the age of On Demand.
Martina's lawyer is right; the boys need to be told. At least Rogelio needs to know before Imelda has a chance to spew venom about this. And we all know she will given the chance.
So when will that harpy find out that Ignacio is her cousin and the man she called Dad isn't? Maybe then everyone will luck out and she will end up in a padded room.
Paula is rounding u the women with the same sexual harassment complaint against the creep who went after her. Here's hoping they get justice.
Another random thought of a very random finale.
I liked the way Gael got to give one last punch to David as they hurtled towards the church door after Leona and her twins left in a huff . I also loved the pop eyed expressions on the faces of Matias and Cristobal. #acting
Clara piped up and said something at one point , and then Kika Said something to her followed by Jo saying something to Kika. Does anyone know what was said ?
The writers decided to give Jerm ( or Jerk as autocorrect likes to call him) one redeeming moment as he warned Gael that the Big Bad was about to stab him in the back . So then , Gael called the guard ....and then he was walking into the glasshouse looking a little messy , found the wedding invitation , shaved and showered , put on his tux , and jogged off to the wedding . Okay . Why was he released ? Did the family know he was released ? No welcome home party planned ? Everybody else got a big foodfilled welcome home party, but Gael just wanders home and discovers his whole family is at the wedding. They didn't send the chauffeur to pick him up? Did he hitchhike home ?..take the bus?
And the writers weren't done using Gael as the punching bag . Leona and David get Kevlar vests and Leona gets a snappy cap for the final showdown with quivering , grimacing , ill Ram. Gael gets a nice shirt . Then , he fake fights old, sick Ramses and thrn sits \lies back as the sitting duck and scolds Ram and gets shot in the arm by one of the SWAT guys. At least neither Leona or Gael was the one to shoot him .
How much time is supposed to have passed since Leona arrived in town bent on revenge ? Months? A year ? How many days, weeks, months did she and Gael sleep in the big bed with only Gael's dreams happening ? When he was in jail , was she relieved to have the big, comfy bed to herself ...no spiders, no lovesick Gael talking to her about la mar and Mar and the beach and the fried fish?
Did one of these writers have an unfortunate experience with a Gael and got even by writing this telenovela ?
Lol, Susan, I loved: "Did one of these writers have an unfortunate experience with a Gael and got even by writing this telenovela ?"
How much time did Gael spend in prison? What was he charged with exactly? Isn't there a law that you don't have to testify against your family members? It maybe doesn't matter here, but he got a shorter sentence for good behaviour when in reality the fact he was psychologically abused by his father should have been considered I Imagine. I wonder if this can have any relevance when Gael is already an adult because I recently listened to a psychiatrist talk about how a girl, who was groomed by her mother to believe it was OK to pretend to have health issues, as an adult had a choice to act differently when she was of age. Someone did mention it's not considered people in such situations aren't exactly capable of making good decisions just because they turned 18 when they spent so much time with someone who shaped them in a significant way. So I'm curious what Gael's chances would be here. I at first he was going to spend years in prison, but it must have been what, a few weeks? And what good does it dothat he turned himself in when there's not much he could help them with with regard to capturing Ramses? He only knows Calixto and Columba are in on it and saw the kidnapped girls once. He knows where Ramses' money is. But this whole 'act of love' seems a bit pointless. I still think he did it because he felt awfully guilty, which was only made worse by everyone else insisting he was to blame for everything. I'm starting to like Susan's theory because what they did to Gael is odd.
Waterlily: I was NOT impressed on last night's Gran Final. It left too many loose ends.
I am assuming the kidnapped girls were rescued by federal law enforcement officers, etc., ?
Susan: Whatever happened to Juan Soler's character ? Did he get killed off awhile back ?
Weirdo: Leona should've killed Ramses on the spot yet her kids Benjamin & AnaJu stopped her from doing it OMG.
How did Leona figure out that David was Columba's accomplice ? It seemed out of the blue.
RGV Chick: Thank you very much for the recap of last night's Gran Final. It was spectacular, yet I was bummed out that majority of the scenes were taking out of Univision UGH.
Jarifa: Interesting to figure out what cause Ramses' unknown illness which resulted in him being on a respirator.
Wasn't that shocked Leona chose to start a new life with Benjamin & AnaJu though. I mean Leona went through a lot of crap.
Good Morning to everyone! And a big thank you for your kind words and the always excellent commentary!
Diana, "This story began and ended with the sea; as the sun rose and set on the glistening water, life was lived and ended, love was born and died. The sand and sea began a tumultuous journey for our principals, Marena, Gael and Adrian." A beautifully stated and excellent observation! It does seem like the three amigos came full circle, especially with the inconceivable rescue of the girls. And "I am brimming with disappointment…" I'm totally with you!
Adriana, I waited a while to read the comments because I knew that someone would express how I felt about this TN and final episode so much better..."The operation against Ramses was a joke. Once again we had Leona and David being front and center, leading the cops while they followed a very dangerous criminal. Really? And Gael gets shot and beat up again, too... rinse, repeat." The entire idea of Leona and David participating in the sting operations was incredibly dumb of the writers...IMHO. There were many "turn offs" for me in this TN, and that was one that had me rolling my eyes and wishing this would end sooner than it did.
Anon at 2:28, "Poor editing, looks like they cut out some important scenes." Yes, they did!
"Civilians involved in police-interpol federal operation, with children too, yeah right." Destroyed any hopes of me liking this TN!
I am not team Galeona but writers could have done so much better job High five!
with "I choose my children" finale.
From Great expectations to huge disappointment. Another HIGH FIVE!!
Waterlily, "If only they had let Apolo live, then I'd have had one more thing to be happy about. But I'm still mad about all that praise Leona got. How is it possible to write a character in a way that makes you hate her and still insist everyone must say she is great. Saying it doesn't make it so, showing through actions is what counts. Maybe they gave up on the characters by the end." I actually hoped that Apolo had been carted off to a safe house where he would be far away from Ramses, but it never happened. And yes, all the praise Leona got was annoying. How quickly everyone forgot that Apolo was killed because of her thirst for vengeance; she kept saying justice, but Josefa called it when she pointed out it was vengeance. And did everyone forget that Leona actually pulled the trigger when she confronted Ramses during the first sting operation. Had the gun been loaded, Leona would be a murderer!
Weirdo, "Really? Not even the doctors know what Ramsés has? Such a lazy anvil." Exactly!! And what really irritated me was that the anvils were provided by Ramses and Calixto! If the anvils had been a result of actual "good character" or police actions, I would have been a bit more satisfied. So did Leona really get her so-called justice...I think not!! And "Clara was extremely OOC in this episode. So now she apologizes to Leona? What? In a bit they'll be besties with Consuelo, the woman she wanted to kick out of her house." That was totally off the wall, did they give Clara a new brain or heart and didn't tell us about it???
OMG, Weirdo, LOVED your ratings! Agree with 95% of them. I have nothing against Angelique Boyer and have liked many of her roles, but I just couldn't get used to her in this one. Her acting was over the top, but when it came to the vengeance and "sting operations", she just didn't "fit." All the acting was over the top, but a lot of the main CHARACTERS were initially likeable, but then got annoying. David turned into an obsessive fool; Gael turned into a pitiful crybaby, Anaju and Ben were too good to be true; Camila also turned obsessive and pathetic. One thing that always had me puzzled was Ramses's love for AnaJu...why???? They did mention that AnaJu reminded him of some sister he had, but then why make her so much like Leona???
Jarifa, "The gratuitous violence, grotesque imagery and sordid mess of a plot were over the top for no good reason except to shock." Exactly! I know we usually want the worst possible anvil, but this was really too much! I am glad you stuck with us :-)
Susanlynn, "What was scarier , dealing with a bobcat or recapping this finale?" you had me laughing quite loudly! I think I would rather deal with the bobcat...much quicker and less painful! LOL "how did Leona get that security footage of David conspiring with Col to break up Leona and Gael? Who sent it to her moments before the wedding ?" Great question!! I was wondering the same thing. It couldn't have been Gael, he didn't have time...or did he?? and he did seem surprised to hear of it... There were many unanswered questions...maybe trivial but still bothersome, another example would be: how did Leona find out about Ramses being at Puerto Palma and having his "merchandise" there??? The time frame was a question fo rme too. The only time they mentioned a 3 month time lapse was after AnaJu was rescued and Ben got out of the hospital; after that...who knows???
Susanlynn, Clara demanded that LeoMar explain why she wouldn't marry David. Kika told her to sit down/be quiet and Josefa basically told Kika to mind her manners.
One last thing--THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Diana, Adriana, and Weiro, while I didn't comment very much, I did enjoy and appreciate your very well-written recaps that made this TN much more bearable. Thank you for all the time, energy and effort you put in sharing all that transpired in this show. Caray is fortunate to have such talented writers!!
Thank you to all who commented! Many a time, reading your comments was the bright spot of my day :-)
Thank you Jarifa for your notes from your very comfy couch! I commented earlier but I don't see the comment so I must have clicked out on my phone without submitting. I hate commenting from my phone! I had the episodes on last night but I can't exactly say I watched them....
I was too dismayed by the realization that double episodes are continuing, maybe indefinitely. I don't know if I can hang with that. I don't want to stop watching but I also don't want to watch two hours every night. This may become the show I fall behind on every week and catch up over the weekend....sigh
I can forgive Marco because I never entirely bought his bad boy act. He seemed torn from day one. Dismissive and mean one minute, then regretful, moving on to Jennifer but telling his brother he can't stop thinking of Blanca. He's seemed like more bluster than actual personality and full of bravado, so I can easily believe it if he changes his mind, his mind wasn't made up to begin it. This is a character that was never comfortable in his own skin from day 1. Since he's still young and stupid, I can give him room to make mistakes and grow from them. If he was 10 years older, I would feel differently.
OT - I noticed on Vix that it's showing 'Ellas soy yo: Gloria Trevi' starting Aug 11th and it's billed as a Vix Original so I am guessing it's coming straight to Vix instead of being shown on Uni. This is the one with Scarlet Gruber that I know I was looking forward to. Anyone else interested can check it out on Vix.
Thank you Jarifa, for filling in blanks for me. Once again the tv only recorded the second hour. On the guide on the tv it has La Rosa…at :7:00. It has it that way all week! So no double episodes for me. I’m sorry I missed Paula and Martina’s tender moment. The show started with Ignacio in jail and Martina learning who he is. She needs to share that with her sons!
Am on a plane to Minnesota so not sure when I get to watch and comment again. But hopefully the tv will be busy recording!
Liz
Thanks Rgv Chick. You took one for the team by recapping this final episode! I have as many questions as answers. I also wonder who sent her the video. Ramses? Most characters finished off happy, or reformed. Lola and Jerm being in the latter. But I really like Gael and if he wanted Leona then I wanted that for him. But I know several of you said she would end up with her kids and no one else. I guess David and Gael have each other, best buds now!
Ramses suffering from some unknown disease was really out of left field. But at least he’s suffering. I know I won’t miss this show! But enjoyed the patio!
Liz
Gracias, Rgv Chick. Your witty recap has me giggling throughout. The clarity of your writing makes sense out of last night's crazies. Diana, Adriana, and Weirdo, bravo! I enjoyed all your recaps, guiding me through this perplexing ride of revenge, terror, love, and just plain ick(!).
I like Leona choosing neither galan. Makes sense to me because finding a love partner was never her goal. The chemistry was clearly with Gael though - maybe they'll start dating in the future... Once David became insufferable and one note, any chemistry with Leona went bye-bye. I could barely watch the wedding, no sparkle between those two.
It's a mystery to me why the writers decided to make David so annoying. Even in the finale, when we know so so well that David is like a father to Benja, we get a gratuitous flashback of David comforting little Benja.
Cantu blew me away. I can't imagine any other actor selling Ramses as he did. Even when the script didn't hold, I was "into" this character. Calderon too. All the actors were in fine form, Calixto, Columba, Boyer, etc. I'm not sure what happened to David's accent though - it came and went.
I loved the face-offs between Leona and Columba. My downfall for Columba would've been her setting up a trap for Leona that actually backfired onto Columba herself (think of the Coyote and Roadrunner).
Time for this one to end, but I will miss Josefa in her giant closet gazing at a memento from Apolo, tiny Leona socking statuesque Columba, Gael coming out of his depression and funk to fall in love with Marena again, David beating the crap out of Jerm, and Leona's joy getting to know her kids. I take it though that there was no police or trafficking consultant on the payroll.
Lol ... of course Emilio Osorio HAD to pop in with a song! It's Daddy's production after all. I'm just glad it wasn't a song - and - dance ..... the novela itself was enough of a song and dance!
Urban, Uni programming makes no sense. Nobody knows what is going on. In the Sun-Times TV guide today, they show that LRdG on at 6 Central and Eternamente for one hour at 7 followed by the double episode of Tierra. It sounds like Liz saw something similar. It was an interesting episode. I cannot wait until Imelda finds out the truth and her high class dreams are even more dashed than they are already. As for Paula and her decision, it makes no logical sense but I am sure there are people like her out there. Thanks for including the info on the sexual harassment complaint roundup.
Darcy, posting from my phone is always problematical, too. I have never understood the double episode phenomena on Uni. Do they not know that asking a viewer for hours of their evening night after night is asking a little much? I liked your assessment of Marco because he is "still young and stupid" as is Blanca. They are growing into the adults they will be and none of that is error free. Thanks for the VIX recommendation. We are so fortunate that there are so many platforms out there with Spanish language content.
Liz, your tv guide matched what I read in the Sun-Times today. Guess I won't know until I turn on the tv tonight. I don't think that Martina will have the luxury of her sons not knowing who Ignacio really is for long. Somebody is going to spill the beans.
Jarifa, thanks for the treat.
I don't recall the boys speaking of their dad Hipolito (fondly or otherwise). Wondering if it would be shocking to them to know he cheated and had a son, or if they'll be upset primarily by having to share their wealth with a skunk.
So Imelda cut away the celebratory balloons Eva ordered for Paula. How petty.
Cecilia went off on Ignacio, but will he be able to woo her back? Not a good sign when you have to hunt him down, cause he's not returning your calls, to break up with him.
I guess we are all in agreement if I say I'm glad this is done and thank God we didn't have to watch 150+ episodes to get to this point (remember older novelas?).
That being said, I would totally watch a sequel that follows Gael as he actually builds a life away from his obsession with Leona. And Josefa getting a second act, have Camila and Marco actually build a romance and get to witness Matias and Jacinta try to blend their families together.
And seeing how the teens end up would be a plus.
Notice I don't mention David, he and his mom can move, there is no need for them.
I just read everyone’s comments which are unfailingly insightful and astute.
Weirdo, I smiled at your “Unfortunately, the acting couldn't save the story” which summed everything up in a nutshell.
What bothered me (along with so many other details) was that Leona WAS getting married last night – to David!! If she hadn’t gotten that video (and yes, who sent it??), did she have every intention of walking down that aisle and declaring “I do” or was she already wavering and was the video the excuse she needed?? I sense it was the former. I don’t blame Leona to want to focus on her children and build their relationship, but doing that is not mutually exclusive to adding a husband to the mix.
Bitter party of one?? Ohhh, my table is ready 😊
Diana
Wow, so many great comments .
I like Angelique . The first telenovela i saw her in was an ingenue role in the remake of " Corazon Salvaje" witb Big Ed Yanez. I also loved watching her dance on , " Bailando por la boda de susuenos" years ago with Susana Gonzalez .She did routines on silks in one of the telenovelas I watched . She is tiny but strong and athletic. However , I didn't like her in this role . I swear that sometimes the look on her face in scenes with Daniel and Danilo seemed to say, " Back off. I am married to a Sebastian Rulli." Daniel posted lots of videos of behind the scenes on Tik Tok . He seems to have respect for Angie as an experienced actress. The cast seemed very close and had lots of fun and laughs together.
I got a kick out of Angie in the hazmat suit , and then, she pulled off the face shield and got up close to Ram's face....sure....that was a good idea with the doctors having no idea what was wrong with Ram . I enjoyed the somersault Ram did when Leona was chasing him , and I liked his pale pink suit jacket . This guy was a natty dresser and the Energizer bunny . He just kept going and going abd being a monster.
Why didn't the writers let us know who sent Leona the video of David conspiring with Col just moments before the wedding ? QTH ?
Hey, with that odd endibg, maybe we will get a season 2_ This time , both David and Gael have finally moved on from fickle Leona and they both novias and Leona is very jealous and tries to win back one or both of them . Menage a trois? I read a book in which a minor character marries an identical twin and takes the other twin as a common law husband . Maybe that would work for Leona . I think Gael might just go along with it, but David is too insecure. Gael know he has the moves.
I think in the end, Gael has the greater chance of eventually " conquering " Leona's heart because I think she only hugged David in the final scene , but she kissed Gael on the cheek. One reason David is so jealous of Gael is because Gael fathered Mar's babies plus he fathered two by Creepy Cal. That is why David was vibrating with excitement and smirking at Gael when David thought Leona was pregnant from his one night only of bliss with her.
One more thing , Leona, I realize why you want to focus on the kids you weren't allowed to be with for their first fifteen years , but they are almost adults And you will have to let them go to live their own lives . That's when it would be nice to have a husband that you can start dating again . And then if you survive your husband , your kids will gather you up and care for you to fill the void of losing him . Just saying.
It's the same old theme...man...woman...birth...death...infinity.
Dear Diana, ha...just read your comment right after posting mine. Make that a table for two.
This is no guarantee of anything but I was watching Vino el Amor this afternoon and I noticed a commercial saying Eternamente tonight at 7/6c. I would love it if they played LRdG in the first hour instead but the advertisement indicates otherwise
Jarifa, I so appreciate your fantastic recap.
I saw little last night but I did see the rather touching scene between Paula and Martina. Martina was seemingly very supportive of Paula's decision, even (shock) hugging her and (awe) eemingly kissing the top of Paula's head! I wonder what will happen with Paula's pregnancy. I fear things will not turn out well.
So when is Rogelio going to "man up" and tell Paula the truth? This is a powder keg waiting to eplode.
Ahhh, Fidel is Martina's little spy. Is the character ever going to be given a personality? Serious and hardworking, we know. But what else is lurking behind those beautiful eyes?
So Marco is coming around? I'm so glad although I think Blanca deserves better. He is going to have to prove himself to me! :)
Jarifa, I have never understood how anyone can recap more than an hour but you always consistently do so. It's hard enough to even watch two hours!! Thank you so much...
Diana
Niecie, all I remember about Hipólito is Rogelio is what he told Paula. Hipóito's marriage with his mother had been arranged and they ended up being good friends at the end. We need to know more about Hipólito and what his kids thought of him.. Imelda's mentality is so 7th grade. As for Cecilia and Ignacio, I bet Cecilia will go running back to him. She is another 7th grader in big girl's clothes.
Diana, glad you got to see part of this. Looks like Fidel knows where all the bodies are buried,so to speak, with his input from both Martina and Rogelio. Put him in a room with Honorio, Hipólito's confidente, and a good bottle of tequila and the novela . . . would be over. Funny but now we have mother Martina and child Rogelio both with secrets on the familial identities of two other characters. Neither is chomping at the bit to tell the truth. It must run in the family. As for my "highlights" they are far from including everything. Believe it or not, I have given myself a time limit and when that is over, I am done.
Chickie, hate to bother busy you, but I posted a comment that disappeared . Posted it a second time, and it went missing again.
Hipolito died "20 years ago", which means that Marco never knew him. Luis may have been in school a couple of years (actor is 27).
I'm guessing that Rogelio is meant to be about 35 (The actor is 41), which means that Fernando might be 33 at most (the actor's real age). Rogelio and Fernando would have memories that would have less in the way of rose-coloured glasses' view than Luis'. Rogelio obviously had some responsibilities at 15.
Has anyone said how Hipolito died?
Jarifa, thank you for covering all the details from your couch. I hope you had a tasty snack and beverage and were in your comfy clothes .
I taught a lot of guys Marco's age and many think and act like they are immortal and they often seem directionless and flippant . They usually simmer down . I want to see Marco's hero's journey. It sure my looks like he is starting to compare Blanca to his motorcycle chick, but then I just saw the finale of " Invencible " which was a big disappointment. I dont want reality . I want happy.
Thank you , Chickie . You are invencible .
P.s. I rewatched the goodbye scene at the end. Leona , who I guess is now Mar again , hugged David . When she hugged Gael , he kissed her cheek ( that cheeky monkey) and Mar gave him an annoying , noncommittal air kiss. Angelique looked very tiny next to these two guys with all of them barefoot . However, when Gael was lying bleeding (again ) from getting shot in the arm , she kissed him on his forehead . ..like " poor baby, wait here while I chase down your mean old dad " Leona to the rescue .
Thanks, Urban, for the info and run down of possible ages. It helps.
Susan, "I want to see Marco's hero's journey." Me, too. This is playing much more like a traditional telenovela than Invincible , for example. Let us hope it plays that way in the ending and gives us a happy one.
They could give it 8PM with Enternamente back at one hour
Highlights form the couch . . .
Here is the skinny on all the action.
ROGELIO AND FERNANDO
Rogelio has penalized Fernando for his Ignacio misadventure with a loss of his authority as an executive. He has no power inside the company to approve or sign for anything. Fidel sees this as a problem when Rogelio is out of town and they need business to continue in Morelia. He suggests giving the power to Luis. Rogelio does not want to pressure him and assures Fidel it will all work out. On top of that, Fernando finds out from Imelda that she was the one who told Rogelio about his association with Ignacio. He is angry. He ends up telling her that he is thinking of trading in his shares in the company and starting his own business. Money might be tight but he wants to know if she is with him. She "says" she is. Ignacio is also upset that Fernando lost his executive authority at the the company. He was counting on it. He tells his mother he has to find a way to get Fernando his power back. Fernando may be a fool but he's likable. Martina knows what has gone on with Fernando and Ignacio and after giving Fernando a good talking to, she tells Rogelio that she wants Fernando's power in the company reinstated. Everyone makes a mistake and she would do the same for any of her sons. She asks if Fidel has heard her wishes. He has. The brothers reconcile. Rogelio asks Fernando to please stay away from Ignacio. He says he will try. (try??)
MARTINA goes to see Irma to intimidate her with the fact that her husband never left her for for Irma. She ends up finding out that Irma and Hipólito were novios at one time. Irma got pregnant with Ignacio and was left behind when Hipólito's parents married him off to Martina. Ignacio joins in and tells Martina that destiny has a date for him to claim his rights as an Iturbide. Martina goes home in tears and gets rid of anything that belonged to Hipólito.
MARCO continues wallowing in self-pity. YAWN!
EVA accepted Martina's money to get the gangsters off her back. In return, she was to do whatever Martina asked of her. She decides to turn over a new leaf, get a job and pay Martina back every cent. She tells Paula she wants to be more like she is and take control of her life. Life is short.
CECILIA gets flowers with an apology note from Ignacio. She isn't impressed. He finally comes by her place and insists on explaining to her why he is like he is. He tells her the story of being Hipólito's son and hardly ever seeing his father. After arguing with his mother one day, his father never came back. They lived in poverty and his mother married a miserable man to beat them both and treated them like animals while the Iturbide's lived in luxury with his father. He gets all worked up, ( maybe too worked up) as he goes on about his hatred for the Iturbide's. He dissolves in Cecilia's arms in tears. He then gets up and leaves saying that now that she knows all about him, she can decide what she wants to do. Cecilia calls Paula to talk to her. Paula reluctantly agrees. Eventually at the end of the episode, she tells Paula that Ignacio is Hipólito's son and Rogelio's half-brother.
LUIS and Erika are criticized by Martina for lying out in the garden on some blankets chatting while avoiding Rogelio's bad mood. She doesn't think the situation looks right or is seemly with Paula being a married woman. Martina tries to talk Luis into getting a girlfriend but he refuses to discuss his personal life with her. As he leaves to go visit an amigo at his apartment, he refuses to tell her where he is going.
MICAELA has no patience for Melitón who is acting like an invalid after getting an injection. She tells him he needs to get with the baby making program. She is ready.
ERIKA AND LUCAS AND ROGELIO Erika is talking to Pati and tells her she is not sure if she should fight for Rogelio or not. She would hate to hurt Paula who she likes very much. She also mentions the tired fact that Lucas doesn't know that the man who he thinks is his father is not his father. That is news to Lucas who has overheard his mother. Rather than asking her about it, he throws a tantrum in his room. The next day he gives her the silent treatment as he leaves for school. Next, the school calls her to tell her that he never showed up. She calls Paula to see if he is at the music school. He isn't. Erika and Rogelio report him missing to the police. Lucas ends up calling Rogelio who is looking for him. He agrees that Rogelio can pick him up only if he does not bring his mother with him. She lied to him about his father so he has no use for her. That puts Rogelio in a really interesting spot. He finally returns Lucas to his mother with promises that Lucas can come stay with him and Paula. He and Erika decide they really have to tell him and Paula the truth right away . . . but not right now.
Jarifa, only seeing snippets here and there, I would be lost without your marvelous recaps.
Eva "tells Paula she wants to be more like she is and take control of her life". Girl, sadly, you and Paula have NO idea how out of control Paula's life will soon be.
I was hoping Martina would get a red wagon, fill it with Hipolito's clothes and start a big bonfire (a la How Stella Got Her Groove Back). Now THAT would have been fun! :)
"He and Erika decide they really have to tell him and Paula the truth right away . . . but not right now". ?? This has already dragged on far too long; it seems a foregone conclusion Paula will find everything out in the worst possible way.
Poor Lucas...sweet kid.
Diana
Instead of 2 hour finale, all we got was a confusing mix of scenes with so many loose ends.
Jarifa, thank you for an e,cement account of everything that happened last night . Now that Intend his has sailed into the blue, I can concentrate on this show.
It sounds like Erika is getting desperate . It really us a sad situation , and Lucas is right in the middle if the drama thst is about to explode .
The scene of Luis bathing his brother Marco was sweet. Hasn't Margins hired a health aide for him ? Marco's face is very expressive .
The Eva character enjoys me. What us Martina going go want her to do?
Evidently Hipolto was not a very nice guy who produced a bunch of sons.
Fernando seems lazy and clueless , so him teaming up with Igy will not be good .
Whoops ...forgot to proofread ...still half asleep!!!
Invencible has sailed into the blue.
I watched some of the first episode . There are a lot of familiar faces , but I wasn't impressed with the leading lady. I didn't recognize Alexandro Tomasi . I liked him so much in Alborado ,the first telenovela I ever watched. He played Don Luis's right hand man and father figure . Guzman was also in that show playing Don Luis's evil primo.
Goyri always makes an excellent villain .
Gracias, Jarifa.
Ignacio was not only overdoing it, he was faking at least half. He is a cold-blooded con man and as such gets off on fooling people now and laughing at them later. He is disgusting. He must have deliberately stalked stalked Paula and Rogelio when he invited himself to their table in the restaurant. He is a petulant child like Fernando, but he is also an evil genius and much smarter than Fernando. Both of them are even less emotionally mature than Lucas.
Did Hipolito ever make out a will? Is there no statue of limitations about Ignacio trying to get what he believes he's entitled to? I wish we had someone here who could answer that.
It looks like Erica's friend is encouraging her to become a homewrecker. Tsk, tsk.
So Paula still doesn't know she is a madrastra. How much longer will it be before she finds out?
I thought threre was some promising chemistry between Maria and Santos. I think Andres Palacios is very charming here. And Guzman is so handsome but proved very quickly he is a heartless villain.
Darcy had mentioned she is familiar with Carolina Miranda (Maria) and thought I would like her and I do. I liked her dropping her hard core shell in a few scenes and showing a bit of vulnerability.
I didn't understand quite a bit. Can anyone please tell me what the relationship between Marco (Guzman) and Adriana (Martha Julia looking fabulous) is?
Susan, I remember Alexandro Tomasi as Sergio Sendel's father in Destilando Amor, great to see him here.
Sofia Castro looks just like her mother, doesn't she? Thought she was very good.
This is going to one hour tonight (hopefully) so I'm willing to give it a try as long as I am able to start figuring out who's who...
Diana
Is Shakespeare laughing from Mt Olympus or spinning in his grave? This is looking like a latter-day version of The Taming of the Shrew. It's already infected with major misogyny and toxic masculinity.
Good list of familiar cast members, so we'll see.
Diaba, so Sophia is the daughter of Diana Castro who was chewing up the scenery bin " Pasion" as she pursued her Fernando Colunga. I wonder if i had ever seen her in anything .
I forgot Tomasi was in DA. We haven't seen Sergio Sendel in quite awhile.
Martha Julia looked great .
I am glad that " Mujer" is coming back . It is heating up and unfolding .
Thank you Jarifa for your always fabulous notes from the couch!!!
I don’t like the way Paula treats Cecila….she acts as if CC purposely set her up for some nefarious purpose. Yes, Cecila may have bad judgement and yes, she may have made a mistake but she didn’t do it with evil intentions and I would think the woman who got married like 5 mins after meeting her husband would be more understanding of CC’s impulsiveness. I also think the fact that CC told Paula the truth about Ignacio being Rogelio’s half brother the very next day after she found out proves that CC does have Paula’s best interests in mind even if she did allow herself to be blinded for a bit by Ignacio’s charm….
It's way too late for Rogelio to tell Paula the truth about Erika and Lucas. The fact that Paula was Erika’s first call when Lucas was missing shows that they are both way too established in Paula’s life for her to be in the dark.
I agree Urban it's horrible that Erika's friend was encouraging her to go after Rogelio knowing he's married.
Imelda actually sounded and looked sincere when she was telling Fernando she didn’t want anything to happen to him because she didn’t want to be without him….not saying I’m buying it, but she seemed a lot more sincere than she’s been in the past. It would be odd (and disturbing) if the writers made these two end game after Fernando raped her.
Hi Susan.
Sophia is the daughter of Jose Castro and Angelica Rivera (Gaviota!!)
Martha Julia is ageless, isn't she??
I miss Sendel but especially Eduardo Yanez....
Diana
I watched last night and I think I will like this....I just hope they don't jump to Maria Teresa and Santos falling in love by the end of week 1. I'd like to see them circle around each other for awhile. Develop the slow burn and have fun along the way!
I did like the character of Maria Teresa, she comes across as hard as nails to begin with but you know there's got to be a compassionate heart in there because she didn't fire anyone on day 1!! LOL Seriously though, Santos was laughing at her, mocking her and giving her hell all day and there wasn't even the threat of firing, and when Sophie Castro (can't remember the character's name yet) and her mother made that whole scene at the end and mommy basically called the boss a slut without knowing who she was talking to, again no big dramatic self-indignant dismissal...she handled it with grace and compassion.
I also like the character of Santos so far, love the laugh, but the whole every woman in town wants him thing was a bit much.
I do like Carolina Miranda a lot. She's very expressive and fun to watch and I've seen her play the gammit from tough as nails to completely vulnerable.
I think Adriana and Marcos are business partners?? It seemed like Adriana might be the boss, but I am not sure yet...
Yay, only 1 hour!!!
Diana, oh, thanks for clearing that up...Gaviotaaaa. Can never forget Big Ed's total devotion to her even after Jungle Dr. ( Sophia Vergqra) wanted him. He could only do it with his Gaviota. I watched Big Ed in " Juegos Dr Mentiras " on Telemundo he was a married man with three grown children and a womanizer .
Darcy, thanks for the info. Maybe I will warm up to the lead actress.
The galan's constant grinning face is creeping me out a little . I hope he dials it back a bit . I will keep on watching . I like the scenery and the cattle and horses.
Goyri is bringing the evil, so I won't miss Cantu in Invencible.
I remember seeing Guzman and Diana Romo on " Cristine" after Alborado ended . They both danced and were great. Fernando Colunga was on , too, but he wouldn't dance. Lucero sang .
OT
I am still watching " Mujer de Judas" ( Azteca) ...talk about over the top !!!
Rgv Chick saw my question as to what Adriana and Marco’s relationship is and she kindly provided me with this answer as well as other important relationship explanations. I didn’t watch all of the episodes but added a bit to the information she gave me as to what transpired.
As it is easier for me personally to identify characters by the actor’s name especially in the beginning), I am going to include them here.
Don Esteban (Alejandro Tommasi) was arrested because his associate and Aldo (Maria Teresa’s boyfriend) swindled him and made it look like Esteban was responsible for the mishandling of money. Of course, Tere doesn’t know Aldo was involved.
When Maria Teresa (Carolina Miranda) is alerted, she is despondent and very worried for her father whom she loves.
Maria Teresa and her father have a tearful reunion at the jail. She ends up fleeing to the hacienda because it was the only place that the authorities couldn’t touch and it’s the only source of money Tere has. After her mother passed away, her father, Don Esteban, was so distraught that he couldn’t live there any longer.
Tere arrives via helicopter and Santos (Andres) greets her. She is wearing a skintight pink dress with black lace peeking out of the bodice and of course, high heels! He has brought a horse and a mule. She has brought Louis Vuitton suitcases!
They banter back and forth and there is palpable chemistry. She is a bit uppity but he isn’t having it and is quite charming. She wanders off and ends up directly into the path of three of Marco’s minions. They were transporting some type of merchandise but left it to taunt, threaten and lust after Maria Teresa. She is saved by Santos, showing up and brandishing the hugest machete I’ve ever seen!
Marco (Luis Guzman) is Adriana’s (Marta Julia) stepson. (I already have the feeling Adriana is not kind and loving).
In a chilling scene, Marco confronts his minions as they were supposed to be concentrating on the “merchandise” they were handling instead of trying to harass and trying to steal from Maria. He screams at them and then shoots one in the forehead. Very grim. Apparently, Marco has a “business” of crossing merchandise illegally to the US by way of the river that is on Tere’s land.
Santos “saves” Tere from a gargantuan tarantula (as she is taking a bath) and Tere is trying to get a lay of the land where it appears there is no internet and few creature comforts.
Other characters: Apparently, Santos is Don Esteban’s godson. Doña Remedios (Nuria Bages) is his aunt and is the town healer.
Bernarda (Mariana Seoana) has two daughters: Valentina (Sofia Castro) and Regina who is deaf. Bernada is a very bitter woman; she had a bad experience with a man and consequently, now trusts no one. Valentina is clearly smitten with Santos and sneaks out every few minutes to try and be with him. Mama Bernarda is wise to her tricks!
Rufino (Sergio Gori) is the town judge. He is married to Norma and they have a son, Clemente.
Diana
If Marco is Adriana’s step son then I believe we saw a flashback to his father’s death last night. Adriana pushed him off a cliff!!! The total ‘I love you and he goes in for a kiss and hug’ moment. She kissed him and pushed him!! Adriana didn’t tell Marco that detail about daddy’s death of course.
Darcy, yes, Adriana pushed Marco’s father off the cliff. Of course she didn’t mention that to Marco, and Marco has always accused Santos of killing his father ( with Adriana’s suggestive remarks).
Also, Clemente is an artist which enrages his father. It's a sure thing we will see lots of conflict over this in the upcoming weeks.
Thanks to everyone for all the information. I am going by the visuals . It appeared that the father in jail was not happy to see the buff boyfriend .
Super couch notes, Jarifa.
Irma and Ignacio are so angry with Martina, when it's Hipolita who cheated, lied and kept them hidden, and neglected to provide $$$ for them. ITA Ignacio was laying his story on too thick, even the TN soundtrack was helping him with a sad violin. I vote he aimed his sob story to keep Cecilia in his camp.
Erika is delusional. So how would she "fight" for Rogelio anyway? He's shown no romantic interest in her.
Thanks for stopping by the patio. How many episodes do you thinks until Paula finds out who Lucas is?
I found the reason Paula gave Rogelio for breaking off her friendship with Cecilia very realistic: Cecilia chose Ignacio over their friendship. That being said, Paula either needs to buy Cecilia out if she thinks she cannot be civil and work with her or give Cecilia the money to repay Ignacio and fund Cecilia herself if they are to remain some kind of work mates if not friends.
Diana, " I was hoping Martina would get a red wagon, fill it with Hipolito's clothes and start a big bonfire (a la How Stella Got Her Groove Back). Now THAT would have been fun! :)" Yes, that hat would have been fun. There is no good way to tell Paula now. Rogelio has left this go on far too long. It will be a double betrayal to Paula : Rogelio and her new "friend" Erika. It will look like a conspiracy between them which will even be worse.
Susan, nobody has hired a health aid as far as we know. They might be one of those families that prefers to take care of their own. Marco seems to be in the throes of depression. Guess it will take a while until he decides to take actions of like Eva is now doing. We only know that Martina wanted Eva to be available to do whatever she asked her to. That is why Eva has decided to repay her the money instead.
Urban, you called it perfectly on Ignacio. "He is a cold-blooded con man and as such gets off on fooling people now and laughing at them later." We know nothing about a will so far. Maybe that will come up as Ignacio puts the screws to Martina and the family for his share.
Darcy, "Imelda actually sounded and looked sincere when she was telling Fernando she didn’t want anything to happen to him because she didn’t want to be without him….not saying I’m buying it, but she seemed a lot more sincere than she’s been in the past."
It was hard to read her because she has always been with him just for the money and status especially after the rape. She had been feeding Rogelio info on his association with Ignacio not to help him but to endear herself to Ignacio. She was quite the enigma.
Niecie, excellent point about Irma and Ignacio's anger. Isn't it always funny how everyone always blames the"other" woman whether she be the wife or the mistress in these situations and never the man? I missed the sad violin. That even makes it better!!
Darcy: TYPO: She had been feeding Rogelio info on his association with Ignacio not to help him but to endear herself to ROGELIO.
Diana and Rgv Chick, thanks for providing a rundown on the important relationships.
I like the rural setting. So Maria is a fish out of water. Santos is cute, but smiles an awful lot, with his happy-go-lucky self. Darcy, you said what I was thinking:
"but the whole every woman in town wants him thing was a bit much."
A bunch of women standing on the street together ogling Santos? Must not be much to do in this town.
Both Luis Roberto Guzmán and Sergio Goyri as villains? Yikes! Maria will have to adapt quickly.
I have been giving it some thought but I still think Paula is being unfair to Celica. If I had been married for X number years and it'd been a well known fact that such sir Ignacio was the sworn enemy of my husband then I could see telling my best friend that you have to chose between our friendship and that guy. If there was some sort of known or definitively established threat or if Cecelia had been carrying on a months long affair or actually plotting against Paula or Rogelio with Ignacio I could see it.
However, the way things stand you have two best friends thick as thieves and one meets and marries a man 5 mins later, the dust doesn't even settle before the DRAMA starts. My mother-in-law hates me, my sis-in-law is psycho, oh and that guy who you think is cute, new hubby doesn't like him! No, I don't really know why, but Rogelio thinks he's bad news so you MUST stay away from him or else. And then four minutes later, Paula finds out Cecilia was taken in by Ignacio after all and she's been keeping this secret from her for what like 4-5 days and this is some grand betrayal worthy of ending a long term friendship over?? To me it just seems harsh and cold. Cecilia wasn't trying to hurt Paula and I think it feels worse from the viewer's POV because we KNOW that Ignacio is a tool but Paula really doesn't (didn't at the time that she found out about CC and Ignacio) and Rogelio doesn't either. I wonder, if Ignacio wasn't the bad guy and Paula was mistaken in thinking he was, would it still feel like a betrayal on Cecilia's part?
I guess what I struggle with the most is not who is right and who is wrong so much as the idea that you could turn your back on your best friend so easily. For me, if I made a friend the last month or the month before that (Erika) and she makes a choice that I perceive as shady I walk away from the friendship no problem, but if my closest friend makes a choice I don't like; I'm going to do everything I can to understand their reasons, motivations, POV, etc before I ever make a decision to cut them out of my life. And I'm going to give a lot of weight to the question: 'Did she intend to hurt me?' Cecilia isn't smart about Ignacio but she never intended to hurt Paula.
Highlights from the couch . . .
TRIVIA: I did a little research and this novela is a mega hit in Mexico. It started back in February and is due to finish up in the near future. Of course, they are showing one episode a night. I read somewhere this was to have 120 episodes which means we have finished 25% of them already.
A very eventful evening!
PAULA cannot believe what Cecilia told her about Ignacio being Rogelio's half bro and that Martina knows. She especially doesn't like Cecilia asking her not to tell Rogelio. That is not going to fly just to protect Ignacio since Cecilia has admitted she is in love with him. Later, Paula calls Eva and tells her she just found out something really bad involving Rogelio. She needs talk to her but they never have the chance.
ROGELIO/PAULA
Rogelio tells his mother about Lucas running away after finding out that the man he thought was his father isn't his father. Rodrigo plans on telling Paula that evening about Lucas. Erika is talking to a a psychologist about the best way to tell Lucas. Rogelio takes Paula out for dinner. She tells him she has something important to tell him (Ignacio is his half bro.) He goes first with his news and just when he is about to tell her about Lucas, she has severe abdominal pain. Rogelio takes her to Erika's office where she undergoes two ultrasounds and another obstetrician tells her that her baby has no heartbeat. She has lost her baby. She and Rogelio mourn the loss as well as Martina. She finally starts to recover and offers her baby clothes to Imelda. In the meantime, Imelda decides to rip up the photo of Rogelio and Erika and tosses the pieces in the trash can in her bedroom. She leaves and Paula delivers the baby clothes and puts them on Imelda's bed. As she leaves, she sees a portion the photo with Rogelio's face on the floor. She retrieves the rest of the pieces from the trash and puts them together. She turns over the pieces and reads what is written on the back. That was the end of the episode.
LUCAS/ERIKA/ ROGELIO
Lucas and his mother reconcile. Lucas has a new problem. It is Field Day at his school tomorrow to celebrate Father's Day. He doesn't have a father and asks Erika if he can ask Rogelio go with him. Paula happily sets it all up. We see the two of them having a fine old time at Field Day as Paula is finding the photo.
IGNACIO/CECILIA
Cecilia makes contact with Ignacio after he bared his soul to her and he basically blows her off saying it was no big deal. She tries to call him later with no answer. She goes by his house where his mother tells her he isn't there, it isn't a good time to visit and closes the door in her face. She finally sends him a text saying that the time has come for them to decide whether they are going to be in a serious relationship or not. He never responds but comes by her place in person with wine, bread, some Serrano ham and an engagement ring. Cecilia says yes.
IMELDA refuses let anyone including herself and Fernando know what the sex of their baby will be until their gender reveal party. Martina cannot hide her negative feelings about having a party to find out the gender of a baby. Imelda having the party while Rogelio and Paula are suffering from their loss becomes an issue but Imelda pushes ahead. Martina ends up not objecting. They are having a baby girl.
IGNACIO leaves a message for his lawyer. He is going to contest Hipólito Iturbide's will. He stops by the Villa Morelia and finds Fernando placing flowers at their chapel's altar for his father. It is funny when earlier, Fernando asks Martina what they are doing for flowers for his father on Father's Day at the chapel. Martina says he can bring flowers and reminds him it is "Father's" Day, not "Husband's" Day. While Fernando is at the chapel, Ignacio pops up and tells him they share a father. He is Hipólito's illegitimate son. Fernando can't believe it. Ignacio says he will give him time to get over the shock and then they will talk.
EVA overhears Rogelio telling Martina that he is going to tell Paula about Lucas being his son later that day. Eva tells Cecilia. She later confronts Rogelio. Rogelio confesses that he just found out that his ex Erika had had a child. She had left town abruptly years ago and never told him she was pregnant. He didn't tell Paula earlier because he didn't want to put her health at risk.
MARTINA has gotten rid of so much of the Hipólito bric a brac but has a special oversized chess piece (knight) she keeps wrapped in box. . She has fond memories associated with it and of him but drops it when startled by Micaela. It breaks. She repairs it with glue and puts it carefully away.
EVA gets a job interview very quickly but it doesn't go well.
MARCO finally gets himself in gear and starts his physical therapy with Luis and Blanca at his side. He gets jealous when the physical therapist Alfredo shows Blanca how she can regain some strength in her hand (it must be from when she cut her wrists). Blanca cannot be bothered to even address the jealousy since it is so ridiculous.
COMIC RELIEF
Melitón is having back problems ever since he got a shot to help cure his fertility problem. Looks like he and Felipa are going to miss their chance to try for a baby this month. She says he will be all better next month.
That is it for me. Please add anything I left out.
Jarifa, thank you for your (always) well written and so informative recap!
Your categorizing the summary by character is inspired and SO helpful.
I can only imagine how heartbreaking it is to return home to a nursery after the loss of a child. I felt for Paula as she wailed above the crib; how tragic. You could see her trying to fight her pain trying to regain some semblance of normal. But the pain would continue to toal devastation...
So ironic that the one time Imelda stops trying to hurt Paula is the time that destroys her.
Paula must surely have hit rock bottom. I don't think she has any fight left in her; I fear flight.
All my pity is being reserved for Paula; Rogelio squandered every oportunity to come clean but didn't.
I thought it a bit odd that Paula losing her baby was announced at Martina's little gathering.
I had to smile at Martina's "faces" about the gender reveal party.
Ignacio proposing was a bit of a surprise. Wait until mama hears...
Marco has some competition for Blanca. Good.
Jarifa, I wonder what the rationale is behind the continuing double episodes. They are rushing but why? Mexico definitely benefitted from one epi a night. It's a lot to absorb in one sitting...
Diana
Jarifa, thank you so much for your excellent recap. It is especially helpful because this episode became too sad for me to watch.
In the scene where Paula talks to her aunt, the aunt tells her the interview didn't go well. Paula is like oh sorry but listen to MY problem. Such scenes piss me off so much. Paula is shown as considerate and strangely I remember wondering if she wasn't one of those people who care the most about random people than their own relatives. I'm guessing she isn't, but after suffering through a similar scene in invencible, I have no tolerance for this.
Marco and his jealousy irritate me. I wonder what he'd have said if she had told him she did like the therapist. It's a bit hard for me to stand this kind of nonsense, given that he earlier called what they had 'un acoston'. He can piss right off with this kind of language. If you didn't mean it, next time think before you open your mouth, Marquito.
Fernando again brought up the issue of them moving out and I didn't understand what Martina told him. It was something about happiness, but I didn't catch.
I wonder how long Paula will stay angry at Rogelio if Cecilia's betrayal was such a tragedy for her. If in the next episode she will say oh I understand, then ceci needs to go look for a different friend.
Diana, thanks. if only we knew Uni's reasoning. This novela doesn't deserve to be rushed through. It is so well done. It is an almost old fashioned , over the top melodrama. Looks like we are stuck in this pattern until . . . : / Oh, well, at least the plot isn't moving at breakneck speed and the commercial breaks have been nice and long. As a recapper I like plot lines like field days, picnics, etc. that eat up time with little dialogue.
"I had to smile at Martina's "faces" about the gender reveal party." I have to confess, I feel much like Martina about this relatively new phenomena. My age is showing. : ( or : ) ?
"Paula must surely have hit rock bottom. I don't think she has any fight left in her; I fear flight." Me, too. I think she could easily be out of the pressure cooker she ahs been lying in when she finds out that her hubby has been lying to her.
Rogelio has a lot to learn before he becomes worthy of Paula.
Poor Cecilia must have been desperate. Maybe she likes to try to rescue people. Ignacio sure hasn't teated her very well. I agree that Irma's response will be interesting. I don't think she wants to share her Ignacio with anyone.
Looking forward to tonight!
Susan, thanks. I am glad that what I am managing to write is helping to fill you in.
waterlilly, "Marquito" (loved that) has to grow up. He is so juvenile at this point. I remember the "acostón" comment. it was so disgusting but clearly showed his lack of character. Maybe his accident and rehab will have a positive effect on him in the long run. We can only hope.
Well, I am out of here. Thursdays are always busy for me.
Jarifa, once again your notes from the couch are fantastic! The only highlight in a sad sad night!
Paula losing the baby was gut wrenching and is only going to make the reveal of Lucas all the more painful!!! I don’t fear flight, I am both hoping for it and looking forward to it! I think a good reason to be mad is exactly what Paula needs right now, and less sadness is what this viewer needs! Since we can all be relatively sure love will concur all in the end I can handle a few obstacles in the middle. I just hope she’s hoping mad and not wailing mad….
Speaking of sad….your boyfriend lies to you, blows you off half the time, rarely answers your phone calls and his mother clearly hates you; so when he proposes marriage of course you say yes!! SMH my sympathy for Cecilia waned a little last night. I can understand she thinks she’s in love, but when the guy reveals he’s a ball of hate focused on revenge you RUN!!!! Not to mention the other less than wonderful ways he treats you!
Jarifa, "I like plot lines like field days, picnics, etc. that eat up time with little dialogue". I do too! Helping to recap La reina soy yo, I was consistently hoping for any and all dancing and singing scenes they would throw our way! A few minutes to breathe and catch up.
"I wonder how long Paula will stay angry at Rogelio if Cecilia's betrayal was such a tragedy for her". I think it will be (deservedly) quite some time waterlily. Such a horrific betrayal.
"Paula losing the baby was gut wrenching and is only going to make the reveal of Lucas all the more painful!!!" So true Darcy. Only one shoe has dropped...And yes "hoping mad" is definitely preferable.
Diana
Gracias, Jarifa. This was definitely a downbeat episode.
After reading about Edward's Syndrome last week I became certain that this would be the outcome. It is better this way although the price tag for it -- Paula's depression -- will cause some early doldrums in this story. She does not deserve this and now Imelda has compounded it with the stupid gender reveal party and the ripped photo. I disagree with the earlier comment that she was not looking to hurt Paula because of the gleeful expression she had when looking at Paula in the later scene. She wants to drive her out of there.
She will likely get her wish if only temporarily. Rogelio's back is against the wall now; he has to tell Paula. This is the sort of concealment that could get her a religious annulment if she asked for one.
Ignacio crashing the party is going to cause even more mayhem. I still wonder if there is any limitation on how long a will can be challenged, so why did Ignacio and Irma wait all this time?
Between Martina and Irma I am almost gleeful at being a spinster with cats.
Re gender reveal parties I agree with Martina. I think they are mostly gift grabs in the US and occur some time after baby showers. I am active on Quora and people outside the US are looking askance at this practice.
Since I'm on my phone now I will post again later because I haven't see last night's episode of Tierra.
Gracias, Jarifa. Fine job.
Such a horrible time for Paula to find out about Rogelio and Erika. I'm guessing Paula and Cecilia will patch things up, because both could sure use a good pal right now. Eva is annoying, but she can give Paula comfort too. I just hope she doesn't rail against Rogelio since she doesn't know the whole story.
Martina didn't look pleased when the gender reveal showed pink. Was that scowl due to the gender reveal hoopla or because the baby is female?
At least Ignacio keeps the story moving by telling Cecilia and Fernando he's a Iturbide.
I still suspect Imelda. That was some half-assed tearing up of a photo. Rogelio's whole head was intact.
Urban, "Re gender reveal parties I agree with Martina. I think they are mostly gift grabs in the US and occur some time after baby showers. I am active on Quora and people outside the US are looking askance at this practice." ITA. I, too, wonder what precipitated Ignacio to make his move now. He really could do damage to the Iturbide fortune by demanding his share of everything immediately if it is proven that he is a legal heir.
Niecie, " I still suspect Imelda. That was some half-assed tearing up of a photo. Rogelio's whole head was intact." Thanks for the laugh because it is so true. As for her reaction at the party, Imelda certainly doesn't have a poker face.
I wonder what kind of skullduggery Ignacio will be up to tonight.
We could see a lot of action with the "secrets" of Lucas' and Ignacio's parentage being known to all.
Will Paula stay or high tail it out of there if/when she finds out the truth about Lucas? She didn't react favorably to forgiving Cecilia.
How much worse will it be with Rogelio?
Diana, "Can this marriage be saved?"
How long until Ignacio and Cecilia get married? I guess it doesn't matter at this point of infatuation for Cecilia at least. She did get engaged.
I can't wait until tonight.
I am with you guys regarding gender reveal parties .Imelda was funny translating for Martina. People feel superior if they know English and other people don't . I thought it was fun back in the day not knowing the gender of the baby.... such a nice surprise. People always bought a lot of yellow and pale green gifts...neutrals for either sex. You had two names ready...A girl's and a boy's. I knew someone who didn't want to know the gender , but she let the doctor tell her mother . Her mother kept the secret , but she was my best friend , and I figured out the gender by tiny slips she made when I was with her .
I like Luis . I hope he finds a girl . Marco will grow up and be a better person. Maybe Martina will also grow up and be a better person. Interfering in your children' s lives is never a good idea .
RGV Chick., Niecie, Jarifa, UA, Darcy & Co.,: Do we know what caused Univision or Televisa to postpone airing "VENCER LA CULPA" ?
I agree about waiting and being surprised by the sex of the baby. I never had a baby but I also thought that if I ever got pregnant I would want to wait to find out!
27 episodes have aired in Mexico so I guess we won't have to wait much longer. Its ratings are currently half those of Eternamente.
Time slots may also be a factor. Eternamente airs at 4:30 while Vencer is airing at 8:30. What is the competition showing?
