Minas de Pasión - ANTES DEL GRAN ESTREÑO: Everything you need to know: Quién es quién, the plot, the family trees, the writers, the directors and the producers
(Recapping-related stuff are in the end)
The original series
Minas de Pasión is a remake of La Patrona, a Telemundo telenovela of 2013, starring Aracely Arámbula, Jorge Luis Pila and Christian Bach. La Patrona is based on a Venezuelan telenovela of 1984, La Dueña, starring Amanda Gutiérrez, Daniel Alvarado and María Cristina Lozada. A lot of things were changed in the mexican version. What we'll see is a remake of LA PATRONA, so this is what I call the "original".
The plot
Source: televisa-univision (slightly edited)
MINAS DE PASIÓN tells the story of a brave woman by the name of Emilia Sánchez who is a single mother that works hard to provide and protect her family in the beautiful town of San Lorenzo de Minas. Emilia has strong family values and a good heart but the owner of the mine where she works, Roberta Castro, is an evil vengeful woman who is out to get her. Leonardo Santamaría is a millionaire who falls in love with Emilia, but his mother Roberta is Emilia’s enemy and will stop at nothing to keep Emilia from telling the world all her wrongdoings at the mine.
(I will also add that Emilia will return to take revenge on those who hurt her. Not a spoiler, since this has been said already.)
Writers, directors and producers
Minas de Pasión was created by Bethel Flores, written by Rubén Gallardo Vaca, Edwin Valencia, María Elena López and Romy Díaz. It's directed by Juan Carlos Muñoz, Jorge Robles Sánchez and Manolo Fernández, with Diego Lascuráin, Claudia Ramos and Carlos Ferreira as creative directors. Its producers are Pedro Ortiz de Pinedo (executive) and Liliana Cuesta Aguirre.
Opening theme
"Qué tal" by Christian Nodal (composed by Silvana Medrano and Octavio Castañeda).
¿Quién es quién?
Emilia Sánchez
She's our protagonist, a single mother who works in the mines in San Lorenzo de Minas. She will fall in love with Leonardo, who's Roberta's son. Roberta isn't going to take this very well... Afterwards, she'll return as Victoria to take revenge on the people who harmed her.
She's played by Livia Brito (Yolanda Cadena in La Piloto, Fernanda Linares in La Desalmada, Lucía Arizmendi in Mujer de Nadie).
In the original version, this was Gabriela Suárez, played by Aracely Arámbula.
Leonardo Santamaría
He's the galán of the story, a man with principles, who'll fall in love with Emilia. Their love won't be all sunshine and roses, however, because his mother exists.
He's played by Osvaldo de León (Luis Alberto in Sin tu Mirada, Héctor in Diseñando tu Amor, Gerardo Montero in Perdona Nuestros Pecados).
In the original version, this was Alejandro Beltrán, played by Jorge Luis Pila.
Roberta Castro
Leonardo's mother, our main antagonist, "La Patrona". She'll make Emilia's life miserable because she wanted to expose all the things she does and because she is in a relationship with Roberta's son.
She's played by Anette Michel (Mariana Robledo in La Otra Mitad del Sol, Altagracia del Toro in La Mujer de Judas, Mirta Morán in Contigo Sí).
In the original version, this was the ICONIC Antonia Guerra, played by Christian Bach.
Sara Quintana
Sara is independent and a business woman, who is in a romantic relationship with Leonardo. Who thinks she'll slap Emilia in the first 10 episodes?
She's played by Sylvia Sáenz (Antonieta "Tony" Luján in Hombre Tenías que Ser, Patricia Fernández in Betty en NY, Jimena Sosa in 100 Días para Enamorarnos).
In the original version, this was Irene, played by Érika de la Rosa.
Jennifer Quintana
Jennifer is Sara's sister. We don't have a lot of info about her yet.
She's played by Lizy Martínez (Bárbara in Y Mañana Será Otro Día, a young Fedra Espinoza in Mi Secreto).
This is a "fused" character. In the original version, there were 3 sisters, Irene ("Sara" here), Patricia (played by Alexandra de la Mora) and Julia (played by Alisa Vélez). Jennifer is a "mix" of Patricia and Julia, from what I've heard. (Personally, I think this is a bit odd, because Julia and Patricia had completely different personalities in the original.)
Gigí de Quintana
The mother of Sara and Jennifer and the wife of Adalberto.
She's played by Alma Cero (Rosa Aurora Santacruz in María de Todos los Ángeles, Isabela "Chabela" Bravo in Tres Familias - she also had a small role in La Tempestad).
In the original version, this was Prudencia Godínez de Montemar, played by Kenia Gazcón.
Adalberto Quintana
Gigí's husband and father to Sara and Jennifer. Not a lot of info yet... Gee, many characters with little info...
He's played by Rodrigo Murray (René Castillo in Médicos, Línea de la Vida, Homero Funes in Vencer la Ausencia - episodes 70-80)...
In the original version, this was Julio Montemar, played by Carlos Torres Torrija.
Aleida Cervantes
Aleida is Fidel's wife. Fidel locked her up in a psychiatric hospital to get rid of her. What a loving husband!
She's played by Karyme Lozano (Azul Toscano/Azucena in Amar Sin Límites, Mariana Aceves de Ibarra in El Talismán, Amaya Serrano Martínez/Florencia Martínez de Serrano in Quiero Amarte).
In the original version, this was Constanza Goldstein, played by Surya MacGregor.
Fidel Roldán
Fidel is Aleida's loving husband (*sarcasm*). He's also Roberta's accomplice.
He's played by Omar Germenos (Emilio Valverde in Tierra de Reyes, Reynaldo Santacruz in Eva la Trailera, Carlos Zubizarreta in La Fan).
In the original version, this was Aníbal Villegas, played by Joaquín Garrido. (I always felt so bad for the actor because the voices, especially the second, they used in the Greek dub of La Patrona were absolutely ridiculous. I don't know if he's heard them, but they were too funny.)
Julián "El Tigre" Sánchez
El Tigre is Emilia's father and Nico's grandfather.
He is played by Alejandro Camacho (Claudio in Yo no Creo en los Hombres, Augusto Orozco in Falsa Identidad, Eugenio Serrano in Imperio de Mentiras - he was also in OG Cuna de Lobos as Alejandro Larios Creel).
In the original version, this was Tomás "Tigre" Suárez, played by Javier Díaz Dueñas.
Zaira Pérez
Zaira is in a relationship with Tigre. She's Gael's mother, but NOT Emilia's.
She's played by Cynthia Klitbo (Juana in Teresa, Isaura Henderson de Arizmendi in Mujer de Nadie, Renata del Río in Juego de Mentiras).
In the original, this was Francisca Mogollón, played by Geraldine Zinat (who I also feel sorry for because she also had a ridiculous voice in the Greek dub).
Nicolás Sánchez
Nico is Emilia's son and El Tigre's grandson.
He is played by Andrés Ruanova (Tadeo Pérez Hernández in La Herencia) and Iker García Meza (Tadeo Falcón in Vencer el Desamor, Hugo García in Amor Dividido).
In the original version, this was David, played by Patricio Sebastián (kid) and Martín Barba (older).
Gael Sánchez
Gael is the child of Zaira and El Tigre and the (half)brother of Emilia.
He is played by Lukas Urkijo (Ignacio "Nacho" del Río in Malverde: El Santo Patrón, Teodoro "Teo" Gómez in El Amor Invencible) and Edward Castillo (Joel in Pienso en Ti).
In the original version, this was Max, played by Emilio Caballero (kid) and Ennio Ricciardi (older).
Mauricio Santamaría
Mauricio is Leonardo's brother.
He is played by Adolfo de la Fuente (Mike Vázquez Peralta in ¿Qué le pasa a mi familia?)
In the original version, this was Fernando Beltrán, played by Manuel Balbi.
Ignacio Villamizar
Ignacio is Roberta's husband. Now here's the problem: both Vida Moderna and Mag el comercio claim that Ignacio is the father of Leonardo, Mauricio and Marijó, BUT Leonardo and Mauricio's last names are different. So, to solve this, I searched a bit and found out that it's just like in the original version and that Ignacio is Marijó's father, but Leonardo and Mauricio's STEPfather. Their father is someone called Esteban Santamaría.
He's played by César Évora (Esteban San Román in La Madrastra 2005, Horacio Cifuentes in Vencer el Miedo, Héctor Morales in Perdona Nuestros Pecados).
In the original version, this was Marcelo Vidal, played by Marco Zetina.
María José (Marijó) Villamizar
Marijó is Ignacio's daughter (Roberta is NOT her mother, but her stepmother).
She's played by Arianna Valh (I can't find previous shows where she's played in) and Valeria Burgos (Fátima in a Netflix show, Donde Hubo Fuego).
In the original version, this was Valentina Vidal, played by Andrea Bentley (kid) and Bárbara Singer (older).
Danilo Betancourt
From what I've seen, this is the first time Rodrigo Brand will play an evil character. Danilo will complicate the lives of many.
He's played by Rodrigo Brand (Brandon Heredia Peñaloza in La Mexicana y el Güero, Omar Haddad Karam in Mi Fortuna es Amarte, Juanpa Gallardo in Mi Camino es Amarte).
This will require a bit of guesswork for who he was in the original version. Since he is bad, the possible choices are Alberto Espino (Christian de la Campa), Ramón Izquierdo (Irineo Álvarez), Macario Gaitán (Francisco «Pakey» Vázquez) or Lucas Guillén (Mauricio Garza). I'm leaning towards Alberto. Except if he's a new character...
Joaquina Castro
Joaquina is a woman who has many secrets. That's it. That's all we know.
She's played by Mayra Rojas (Lourdes Andrade in Háblame de Amor, Clarissa in Enemigo Íntimo, Dora Sánchez in Como Tú no hay Dos).
In the original version, this was Poncia Jiménez, played by Marú Bravo.
Sebastián Martínez
Sebastian is someone who loves Emilia.
He is played by Carlos Gatica (Gabriel Rojas in La Desalmada, Emilio Campo in Los Ricos También Lloran 2022).
More guesswork: I assume he was, in the original version, Manuel (Ángel Chehin). That's the only one I can think of that fits.
Ezequiel (? No last name given)
Ezequiel is the corrupt policeman of San Lorenzo de Minas.
He's played by Arturo Posada (Otero in El Equipo, Estanislao in Amor de Barrio).
I assume his La Patrona counterpart was Ramiro "Lagarto" Chacón, played by Tomás Goros.
Orlando Roldán
Orlando is another San Lorenzo police officer. IMDb has his full name as "Orlando Roldán Cervantes" (that's quite a name), so that must mean he's Aleida and Fidel's son.
He's played by Moisés Peñaloza (Brochas in Diseñando tu Amor, Jorge Cortés in Si Nos Dejan).
His La Patrona counterpart was Ricardo Villegas Goldstein (that's also quite a name), played by Aldo Gallardo.
Miriam "Mimí" García
Almost no info on Miriam, just that she'll be someone that will give much to talk about. Okay...
She is played by Michelle Orozco (Manuela in Cumbia Ninja).
WAY too ambiguous to guess who she was in the original.
Flor (? No last name given)
No info as of yet.
She's played by Priscila Solorio (Ana Laura de Millán in Los Ricos También Lloran 2022, Gaby in Mi Secreto).
No guesses for who she could be in the original. She could be a new character.
Others:
Melissa Lee as Fátima
Raúl Orvañanos as ? (My best guess is Esteban Santamaría in flashbacks, but I can't find anything about this yet.)
Family Trees
Emilia has a son, Nico. Her father is El Tigre, her "stepmother" (in quotation marks because she's not married to Emilia's dad) is Zaira. Zaira and Tigre have a kid together, Gael (Emilia's half-brother).
Roberta is married to her second husband, Ignacio. She has 2 sons with Esteban Santamaría, her first husband (now dead), Leonardo and Mauricio. Ignacio has a daughter, Marijó, Leonardo and Mauricio's stepsister.
Gigí and Adalberto are married and have 2 kids, Sara and Jennifer.
Fidel and Aleida are married (unfortunately for her). They have a son together, Orlando.
The rest have no known family members as of yet.
