Notes from the couch . . .
PAULA /CECILIA At the start, Paula and Cecilia are still arguing but miss each other in spite of it. It takes Ignacio telling Cecilia that neither she or Paula is involved in anything that is going on between him and Rogelio, and Rogelio telling them where Paula is located for the women to rekindle their life-long friendship. The "sisters" are back together again.
LUIS/ANDREA When Andrea hears at Martina's supper table that Luis has decided to take the job in Los Angeles without talking to her more about it as they had agreed, she says that he has made his decision and she has made hers. She hands him back his engagement ring and leaves in a huff. Later, he goes by Gabriel's house to tell her the ring is hers whether they get married or not. He asks if she still wants to marry him. Yes, she does . She loves him. She suggests that they have a short and sweet civil ceremony. He agrees and she accepts the ring again.
IRMA Cecilia goes to see Irma to try to find a way to reconcile mother and son. Irma is soon in her own world blaming everything on Martina and Rogelio. Irma attacks a nurse in the dining room insisting that Martina has put rat poison in her food. Ignacio gets a call that his mother had a psychotic break. They sedated her. It would be good for him come and see her. Ignacio gets a call saying that his mother has escaped. He is on his way. Rogelio goes with him. Irma is skulking around and has a pair scissors hidden in her gown . An orderly finds her and she is apprehended. She is clearly in her own reality. Ignacio visits her in her room . He asks why she makes things so hard and apologizes for not having come sooner. He wants to forgive her but all she can talk about is REVENGE on the Iturbides. She finally recognizes him but shortly thereafter starts to hallucinate. When Ignacio leaves, she has calmed down. As he talks to Rogelio in the waiting room, Irma is suddenly reanimated and tries to attack Rogelio with a pair of scissors. Ignacio gets between them and she stabs him in the hand with the scissors.
ROGELIO/LUIS Luis refuses to argue with Rogelio about the affection he feels for Paula. If Rogelio doesn't trust him, that is his problem. He leaves. Rogelio is left deeply saddened. The conversation that begins to solve the situation is when Martina explains to Rogelio that she became aware of how Luis felt about Paula was when she unintentionally saw what he had written in his notebook. She informs Rogelio that Luis met Paula before he did. He had lost his inhaler and was having an asthma attack. She helped him breathe and get through it. The next thing Luis knew, Rogelio showed up with Paula as his wife. He was happy for Rogelio and his marriage and to have Paula as a sister-in-law.
Rogelio ends up feeling like a real idiot especially after spending time with Ignacio visiting the mentally ill Irma who tried to kill him and seeing how bad things can get in life. He tells Luis that tomorrow isn't promised and that life just keeps moving along so he wants to make things right with him. He tells Luis that their mother explained it all. Luis tells him how Paula helped him with his asthma attack and that moment was magical for him. Then he started to adore all of her positive qualities. Paula was the best thing that has happened to the family. For him, Paula is like a dream but he knows for Rogelio, she is the real thing. Seeing them together gives him faith that true love is possible. He didn't tell Rogelio about his feelings because Rogelio is not only his brother but is also like a father. Rogelio cannot talk him out of moving to los Angeles. It turns out that Luis' boss in Mexico called him about a very good opportunity for him in California. He is going because it will meet a personal goal of his. Rogelio apologizes for not knowing how to react with his jealousy. He asks Luis who will help him barbecue? talk to him? give him some therapy? Luis says he will. Luis smiles and they hug.
ITURBIDE TRANSPORTATION Fidel is met by Carmelo outside of his place. Carmelo wants money to keep his mouth shut so that Ignacio does not find out that Rogelio and Fidel wanted dirt on Ignacio to get him off the board. Fidel refuses. He tells Rogelio who is incensed. Fernando presents his proposal for rapid messenger delivery. Everyone on the executive board likes it and wants it implemented. At Ignacio's urging, they all, including Rogelio, vote for Fernando to be the president of the company. Unfortunately, they do not know that Ignacio calls Carmelo and informs him that the first step of their plan is completd.
THE FOUNDATION Martina's foundation has a problem with finding musical entertainment for their fund raising gala the profits of which will go to support a school for visually challenged students. Martina suggest her daughter-in-law Paula. Beatriz wonders whether she will be "good enough" for their group but Martina overrules her. Paula is excited about the job and Ulises gets some of their musician friends to join her. Shortly after that, Martina is not at a meeting where the ladies are still planning the gala. Beatriz, the vice president, takes advantage of her not being there to convince the ladies that Martina has so many things going on that the "poor thing" really doesn't have time to lead their organization. The ladies vote for her as president on the spot. Beatriz will later tell Martina about the vote and that she hurt her reputation among the women by going to stay at a hotel with Gabriel AT HER AGE!!!. Martina could not care less what she or any of them thinks.
The day of the gala, Imelda enters the plot and calls the contracted musicians who will accompany Paula and tells them the gala has been cancelled. Paula is shocked when her friends are not there. She calls Ulises who tells her that somebody called from the foundation to cancel their services. Ulises comes to perform with her and they are a success. Imelda takes photos of Paula and Ulises on the stage so she can send them to Rogelio to aggravate him. Later, Paula will track down the phone number that the call cancelling the musicians' services was made from. It turns out is was Imelda's. Paula confronts her and Imelda feigns ignorance as usual.
FERNANDO/IMELDA/XIMENA Fernando goes to see Ximena to bring her up to date on what is happening at home and how hard it has been with ADA. Ximena surprises him by telling him that she is done with their relationship. She cannot see that it has anything in it for her because she is always going to be waiting for him to have some spare time. She loves him but she won't do that to herself. Fernando agrees to have another child with Imelda if it will save ADA (who still hasn't been diagnosed with anything!)
MARTINA/IGNACIO Rogelio and Paula have invited Ignacio and Cecilia to a family cookout. Martina isn't happy about it but she is overruled. The day of the cookout, she meets with Ignacio one on one and thanks him for protecting Rogelio from his mother and for accepting the invitation. He apologizes for his mother. She recognizes that Irma has problems and hopes she recovers some day. He appreciates that. She grabs his hand and welcomes him. He thanks her and cries.
TAMARA/CHUY Chuy asks Tamara to be his novia. She has to turn him down because she is going into rehab and doesn't want anything hanging over her head. She wants to concentrate on getting well. She will be gone for 6-8 weeks. They agree to see each other when she gets out.
MARCO/BLANCA Blanca gets an award for an interior design project at her school. Marco asks Rogelio for an old bus he is getting rid of. He plans on taking the bus, store it on El Toro's property where he and Blanca, with her interior design project, are going to create their hotel on wheels. Part of his plan is to reuse/repurpose all materials that he can. Rogelio likes this idea.
That is it for me tonight. Please feel free to add anytihg I have left out.
This novela continues to impress me with the depth of the emotional relationships between the characters and the time given to the characters to express them and work them out.
Jarifa, your insightful, marvelous recap outlined much that I missed and clarified and corrected some of my initial assumptions. I would be lost without your sensational summaries.
“This novela continues to impress me with the depth of the emotional relationships between the characters and the time given to the characters to express them and work them out” is exactly right!! To your point, as there are so many significant, interwoven details in this story thread, I try not to dwell on the smaller ones but sometimes, they puzzle and intrigue me the most. So, was the kiss Rogelio bestowed on Luis’ cheek a reverse Judas kiss? Was it meant to signify I love you but you betrayed me? Certainly an awkward situation but Rogelio had no reason to be jealous; he knew full well Luis would never make any untoward move on Paula. Luis’ feelings for Paula had already been cultivated before Rogelio met her. I’m glad they talked it out and hopefully this chapter is closed, at least between the brothers. I’m not sure Andrea is ever going to be on board. Or that she should be.
When Martina welcomed Ignacio into the family and as that single tear cascaded down his cheek, I truly felt for him.
Imelda seemed to be normal and sane; for a full five minutes. She quickly reverted to her mean girl stunts.
Ceci attempting to have a coherent, meaningful conversation with Irma was mind boggling. Telling her that Ignacio adored her was simultaneously sad and senseless. Irma isn’t standing on the precipice; she has jumped into the cauldron of despair and doom.

(Re-post from last page because my reply was too late.)
Darcy, "Imagine getting the crap kicked out of you, no questions asked, by some lady and her friend just because you stopped a kidnapping!" LOL as funny as that sounds written, this situation IRL must suck.
Hi, TF! "In typical telenovela fashion it seems like Leo and Emilia will start off on the wrong foot" Yep, they definitely didn't start off nicely.
"I find it hard to keep track who is who here." Same, waterlily, we have so many characters and so little explanations. I'm frustrated with that. I agree with your comments, your questions are pretty much mine too. For the explosives, unfortunately I didn't hear the guy's name that well, but I don't think it was anyone who's in the main cast. So why did Roberta want someone else to take the blame for that? I don't know. This show is confusing.
"Doesn´t he realise on some level his wife doesn´t love him?" Lol yes, she isn't exactly making this hard for anyone to realise!
From "annoying" to "future killer" overnight: RUN, Ignacio, RUN (you should have already done this) - Part 1/3
Some scenes aren't in order.
Emilia, Leo and Tigre take Ignacio to the hospital.
Roberta is talking with Jennifer. Roberta wants to get Mau married to Jennifer, but she says that he loves Emilia and she thinks he's always loved her. Roberta, annoyed, says that Jenny is the daughter of the presidente municipal, while Emilia is just a miner and she won't allow her son to get involved with this filth. Jenny also tells Roberta about Mau going to Emilia's house last night. Roberta says that a kid will tie Mau more than a woman. Uh oh.
Emilia blames herself for Ignacio's condition. Leo says it wasn't her fault and asks her what did she tell him. Emilia doesn't say, because it's "something personal of his". (I mean, he IS his stepson, but okay.)
Marijó has Gael's phone number from last episode. Mau sees it and Marijó says he's just a friend. Joaquina informs them miss Jennifer came here previously.
Speaking of Jennifer, her father is busy kissing some woman. (That's Miriam, she has his daughters's age and this is the first time we see her.) It looks like it's an affair that has been going on for a while. Miriam wants him to divorce Gigí. He says he won't divorce her and that marriage is the tombstone of love and some other things he DEFINITELY doesn't believe, but says them to get Miriam's idea to get married with him out of her head.
Ignacio is fine! He didn't collapse because of what Emilia said. He just felt bad.
Emilia is on the phone with Seb. She tells him about Ignacio and that Leo wasn't a kidnapper as they thought. Leo is right behind her. Emilia turns and sees him. After a short talk, in which Leo tells Emilia Ignacio wants to see her, he leaves.
Marijó texts Gael. By the way, Marijó is a short form of María José. In her second text, instead of sending him "I would like to give you my number" she wrote "I would like to give you a kiss" due to autocorrect. And of course she realised that AFTER she had sent the message. Oops!
Emilia is still feeling guilty for Ignacio's condition. Ignacio tells her she did the right thing. She shouldn't feel guilty; she had to tell him about Roberta's affair. But, the truth is he knew it already! Well that was unexpected!
Roberta is trying to get Mau to go against Leo. She says he can't steal what's his. Mau even gets a slap, for not getting her POV immediately I guess. Some Dolores woman (secretary?) tells them Ignacio is at hospital.
Ignacio says he knew about the affair; there were times where Roberta would be late and Fidel would spend much more time in the mines. He adds that he didn't do anything for the kids, what? Dude, Leo and Mau are like, 30 minimum! What "for the kids" talk was that?! And if it was for the kids when they were younger, WHAT ABOUT WHEN THEY GOT OLDER (OF AGE)? He claims Roberta will pay, but she's powerful now. THAT'S WHY YOU DIVORCE THESE PEOPLE EARLY ON! He asks for Emilia's help. She agrees to help, so does Tigre, who popped up behind them.
Jennifer is talking to Sara via phone and they FINALLY inform us they're sisters. Jenny is whining that she wasn't seen or heard of her in months, Sara says there are social media, but Jenny isn't keen on having any. She also says that if she had a boyfriend like Leonardo, she'd be more careful not to lose him or something, ugh. She looks around and sees her dad with the young woman, that Miriam. Oops.
From "annoying" to "future killer" overnight: RUN, Ignacio, RUN (you should have already done this) - Part 2/3
Roberta goes to the hospital. Emilia says Ignacio is well, Roberta replies that she's here now and she can leave. The following dialogue happens (slightly changed because I'm writing this from memory):
Emilia: You're scared, aren't you? You're scared I'm going to tell everything to my godfather. Well, I'm not leaving because he's important to me.
Roberta: I've warned you before. Don't mess with my husband or my son.
Emilia: I've already told you I don't have anything with Mauricio. And even if I had, that would have been my problem, not yours.
Roberta: Don't mess with what I love most, because I can mess with what you love most. Your son's name is Nico, isn't it? The little boy you lost in the fiesta and who got almost robbed?
Emilia: If you tried to kidnap my son you're going to pay. I won't let this go.
Roberta: Go and protect your son. Leave my husband and my son in peace.
Mau has a fight with Leo. He even dares to tell him he only got back in San Lorenzo for Ignacio's inheritance! Leo tries his best to keep calm.
Gael stayed with Nicolás. Emilia, Tigre and Zaira go to Emilia's and see him there. Zaira is upset because her son didn't tell her. We get a fight between Zaira and Emilia: Emilia says that Nico is Gael's family too, Zaira tells her that she never saw them as family and says something about Emilia's mother I assume, because my video lagged and the next thing I heard was Emilia telling Zaira not to mention her mother, she was there until her last breath.
Roberta is doing a great job at pissing Ignacio off. She keeps on playing nice, pretending she "cares" about his health. (Okay, I get that me comparing La Patrona with Minas might be slightly annoying for some, but they changed the OG villain's character A LOT. Antonia didn't play nice 99% of the time. That's one reason why I liked her. I don't like all these changes they did in this one.) Ignacio insists he's fine. She tells him he should give Mau the position he gave to Leo. Joaquina comes, he asks her for some tea and Roberta manages to whine about that too; she claims he's embarrassing her in from of the "servant". Ugh, ya basta Roberta.
Zaira fights with Tigre because he didn't defend her. She says she wants them to get married.
The next day: Emilia's car breaks down in the middle of the road and there's no way she'll be able to fix it. Of course, good old Leonardo passes by and offers them a ride. Emilia doesn't really want to but Nico does, so she accepts.
Tigre wakes up, on the couch, with a freaking PIG on top of him. He grabs a picture and looks at it. Flashback: he, a young Emilia and Emilia's mother are sitting together. Emilia's mom is imaging their future house. They look happy. The flashback ends and Tigre promises to himself they'll always keep this house.
Leo drops Nico off to school. He offers to give Emilia a ride to work too. She refuses and says she could teach him discipline or something. Leo says that he has had enough; first, she attacks him even though he actually saved her son, then she calls him a delinquent and now she says this? He grabs her bridal style and gets her in his truck to drive her to work. He even puts her seatbelt on LOL.
From "annoying" to "future killer" overnight: RUN, Ignacio, RUN (you should have already done this) - Part 3/3
Jenny is trying a wedding dress on. She gets a message saying she has to see this video. As always, my video chose the worst place to lag and skip something. I think she sent the video to her sister, Sara, but I have no clue what the video was about. Ugh.
Emilia has another flashback. It's quite cleared she was raped. She freaks out and wants to get out of the car. Leo lets her and says he doesn't know what she's been through, but he would never hurt a woman, he would never hurt her and her son.
Now Leo and Emilia are at work. Time skip or did I miss something?
Roberta says that Ignacio has been "strange" lately. Leo blames the stress, that's why he's here, to help him. Roberta thinks that's a great idea. (Or so she says. I don't buy it.)
There's a slightly confusing scene with Seb and Leo, Seb at first whines to a guy who works there about Leo and says he's not afraid of him, his money nor his contacts but then when Leo hears this and comes in he says he doesn't have anything against him. Huh.
Roberta is at hospital. A doctor gives her some drug and says she has to be careful to give her husband the correct amount, an excessive dosage would be lethal. I think the doctora just signed Ignacio's death sentence accidentally. They're passing by the psychiatric yard, a woman violently grabs Roberta because she thinks she's someone else. Roberta mentions the senator, the doctora says he had a family member here, but s/he died (falleció - doesn't specify gender) a few years ago.
Tigre is signing some contract that will be beneficial "for both parties", whatever that means. If I understood correctly, Tigre is taking a loan and is putting up his daughter's house as collateral. Why does he need money for? To save the other house?
Roberta is searching for Marijó. She doesn't find her, but she sees Joaquina and decides to bully her. She changes the calming liquid Joaquina adds to her teas with a big portion of the drug the doctor gave her, the lethal dose. She gives it to Ignacio, who drinks it all. Uh oh. (So, Diana, you were right!)
Gael is with some other boys. Suddenly, he falls in a lake nearby. Gael can't swim apparently. Marijó was there from before, she jumps in and saves him.
Mau is being more creepy and annoying. He wants Emilia to forgive him and decides the best way to do this is by not letting her go until she says she forgives him. Leo is there and hits him to leave Emilia alone. Jennifer runs to Mauricio's side (ugh) and SARA pops up! She asks Leo "you hit your brother for her?" Emilia asks her who she is. Sara says she's Leo's girlfriend.
And with that weird situation, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
'Rogelio doesn't know how to deal with his jealousy'. Could he try and learn to deal with it instead of attacking everyone? He is so insecure it's ridiculous. If I were Paula, I'd have told him long ago to stop attacking me for something I'm not responsible for. It now appears Marco has more maturity than his oldest brother who is oh so large and in charge. He does apologise, but it doesn't appear that the problem itself is resolved.
Ceci's complaints to Paula were made to seem odd. Ceci told Paula she had to pass her the exam answers and Paula was like'oh but I didn't have them because I was working, oh didn't you know?' I was not a fan of the way this was portrayeed. Paula comes across as a victim of her mean friend who is full of resentment. Ceci made it clear this was not just resentment but the arguments seemed kind of weak. Her argument with Paula about Ignacio lasted longer I believe.
Ximenafinally did the right thing.Fernando saying 'but I love you' was a bit irritating because he doesn't seem to realise it's plain selfihs to insist you are in love when you aren't goijng to leave your wife and offer the woman you love a stable relationship.
How is it moral for Fernando and Imelda to hav another child just to save Ada?I can't blieve the writers went this route.
So Imelda's child is sick and she so worried that she has time to try to ruin Paula's performance? She is past redemption after this as far as I'm concerned.
In what universe is it a good idea to get married 'por el civil' when you think your prometido is in love with someone else? This whole relationship lacked something to make it interesting for me. It's here to provide drama but Andrea just doesn't interest me. It feels kind of 'tacked on' because Luis also needed a partner and we need to see more jealousy from Rogelio.
Beginning Sept. 4, it will only air at 8PM now. La Rosa back at 7PM

Thanks, Jarifa, so much goes on each night. Lots of drama.
We’ll, I guess we know why Imelda is the way she is. Her mother was not very nice when she basically took the presidency from Martina with her lies to the other women. I hope the truth of that meeting gets out. And did Beatriz have a reason for taking the pictures, other than to send them to Imelda so she could send them to Rogelio. I’m very tired of all his petty jealousy. If only he’d married Imelda he would have no reason to ever get jealous! And why didn’t Paula tell him what Imelda had done!
So Fernando will be the president of the delivery part of the business. I guess he will be the one to get arrested when they get caught. I’m ok with that. He really does some stupid things.
I thought it was nice that Ignacio had Cecilia make up with Paula. He finally did something good and admitted all the family mess had nothing to do with either woman.
I’m glad Ximena is bowing out. She deserves more than Fernando is offering. And can you imagine sharing parental duties with Imelda. She is definitely the worse character in the show.
Liz
Weirdo, thank you for a great recap as I try my best to sort out who's zooming whom. I watched the first half last night and then recorded the last half . I am looking forward to watching it now that I have read your recap. I can't wait to see what I missed.
So, it looks like Leo the lion hearted is stepping into a triangle with drunken, weepy, annoying manchild bro Mau and faithful friend who wants to be a husband Seb. Maybe Emily will now have two bodyguards . As always, the leading lady is irresistible to many while fighting the good fight for justice.
Gracias, Jarita.
I guess Ignacio is no longer in denial about Irma's crazy, but I have the feeling he pushed for Cecelia and Paula to reconcile to keep that path of information he can use against the Iturbides.
Imelda was beyond redemption a long time ago. What she did here was kid stuff compared to what can happen in the next 50 episodes.
Imelda and Fernando should read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I have serious issues with the Savior Child situation since it often leads to the same family dysfunction illustrated in that book. The Iturbide family dysfunction and Imelda's narcissism would lead to a nightmare life for that second child.
I now need to type up last night's Tierra so I will be back in a little while.
Jarifa, A big thank you from my couch to your couch. You brought us every twist and turn.
Well, Imelda has a possibly very ill child and yet she still felt the need to stir the pot by sending those photos of Paula and Ulisses. Beatriz, who always looks like she just sucked a lemon, is just as bad for taking and sending those pictures. These two live to rain on other people's parades.
I choose Ulysses even though I am not much for the ukulele . This free spirit would be fun ...the beach, concerts, picnics in the park , Swimming, bike rides. I think I could learn to surf.
Now that Igy has finally seen what love is from Ceci and the family , I think he is beginning to want to redeem himself , but is that possible at this point or is he past the point of no return?
Have the writers dropped the odd storyline of his mysterious co conspirator . We only saw the hands with long painted nails and the pink feathery sleeve .
Weirdo, your wry wit, tinged with delightful sarcasm made this a delicious read. Your writing the dialog from memory was amazing.
“He claims Roberta will pay, but she's powerful now. THAT'S WHY YOU DIVORCE THESE PEOPLE EARLY ON!” Words of wisdom.
Perhaps Mauricio was charming and intriguing at some time in the past. His crying, mewling, cowardly present self shows nothing of that possibility.
There was no hidden meaning in Roberta’s words to Emilia. They were overt threats against her son.
Emilia’s flashback of the rape was heartbreaking and sickening. No wonder she is so defensive…I have every confidence Leo will thaw her heart, bit by bit.
Perhaps it’s just me but Roberta seems very one dimensional. Tight lipped, anger simmering on the surface. I think I prefer the villains fiery, tinged with fury.
My fears Ignacio was being poisoned were sadly confirmed. I hope this isn’t another instance where the “second” galan is killed off by the harpy wife.
I believe the video Jenny sent Sara was of Leo picking Emilia up, caveman style, and putting her in his truck. That’s why Sara showed her selfish self at the end, to protect her interests!
I had assumed Zaira and Emilia would be loving allies. Oops, wrong.
Diana
Diana, I am glad you enjoyed the recap. " I’m glad they talked it out and hopefully this chapter is closed, at least between the brothers. I’m not sure Andrea is ever going to be on board. Or that she should be." As for Andrea and Luis, he has seemed quite wishy washy about their whole relationship to me but he had NO hesitancy accepting the job position without following up with Andrea. I also didn't like his idea that Andrea could take a class or something in LA to keep herself busy when it sounded like she had plans to take over her father's law firm. My advice to Andrea would be to RUN, Andrea, RUN! "When Martina welcomed Ignacio into the family and as that single tear cascaded down his cheek, I truly felt for him." I did , too, but he cannot have it both ways. So, he needs to come clean about Carmelo and Rogelio has to come clean about wanting to force him off the executive board. Only then will the family be whole. That could take the rest of the episodes because somehow I have a feeling that Ignacio and Rogelio will resist doing either.
waterlily, "How is it moral for Fernando and Imelda to hav another child just to save Ada?I can't believe the writers went this route." Me either. That really rubs me the wrong way and I will say it again ADA hasn't even been diagnosed yet! "In what universe is it a good idea to get married 'por el civil' when you think your prometido is in love with someone else? " I will read what I said above "Run, Andrea, run!"
Liz, thank you for clarifying that Fernando has been declared the president of the rapid delivery service division/company within the larger company. "I’m glad Ximena is bowing out. She deserves more than Fernando is offering. And can you imagine sharing parental duties with Imelda. She is definitely the worse character in the show." It was a relief that Ximena finally came to her senses. Nobody deserves to have to deal with an Imelda except her parents. Yes, she learns it all from her nasty mother.
GENERAL TELENOVELA COMPLAINT: What is it with that whenever a "mature" man gets upset, they always have chest pains. Give me a break!!!
Susan, "Have the writers dropped the odd storyline of his mysterious co conspirator . We only saw the hands with long painted nails and the pink feathery sleeve ." No spoiler, but IMO, I do not think they would have wasted screen time showing her if she were not to be included at some point. Now Ignacio seems to be coming at the Iturbides in two ways: One backed by the mystery woman; the other following the wishes of Carmelo. Does the mystery woman know Carmelo? is this less complicated than portrayed? Have I forgotten some past detail(which is a real possibility)? Hmmmmm ; )
Andrea and Luis knew each other for a minute and a half and decided to get married. QTH???? It takes years to really get to know someone after all the masks get dropped. If you still like and love that person , that's the time to marry.
Listening to " Love and Happiness" by Al Green ....A great way to perk up any day. Wishing you all both.
forg/jecoup, thank you for reminding us of the good news!!!! I cannot wait to be back on a normal schedule.
Diana, regarding Anette's portrayal of Roberta, this is the way she played the lead in " Mujer de Judas." Very stone faced and lack luster. I never could figure out if she was supposed to be good or bad. She played opposite Mauricio Islas who showed lots of emotion. Resting witch face, constant stink eye nonstop . Cantu is would be chewing up the set in this role, verdad ?
Thank you Jarifa for another splendid recap!!! I am glad your double duty is almost over!!! You are a trooper providing all the details night after night and week after week.
I really don't like Andrea. She's whinny and harsh. She knows Luis doesn't love her so she tries to insist and insist to get her way and then pouts when she doesn't. I don't think it's RUN Andrea run, I think it's RUN Luis, Run!!!!
I read 'My sister's Keeper' by Jodi Picoult. It was a really interesting book and Jodi is a very good writer. I liked how the book brought out all of the different conflicting feelings and sides of the issue instead of just painting it by one person's perspective. I think the idea of having a child to save a child is so complex because if you have an option to save you child, don't you take it? How can you not do everything possible to save your child? But then again, how can you have a child just to save another child? Or a child for parts, like someone said? What if you were going to have another child one day anyway (so you weren't Fernando and Imelda) and you just had the child sooner, and you truly loved her for her but she also saved her sibling?? So many complex emotions. Is it moral?? I don't know the answer but what a heart wrenching situation to be in.
I really like Chuy, he feels like just lightness and joy! I really like the actor too, he just makes you want to smile and frankly this show and use some of that a lot of the time.
Even though we did have some arguing, everyone apologized quickly and everything was wrapped up by the end of the night. Ignacio was nice in encouraging Ceci to forgive Paula, Rogelio got over his jealous fit and made up with Luis, Rogelio and Ignacio were getting alone and supporting each other, Martina welcomed Ignacio to the family....and somehow it all feels eerie, a little too calm and too happy. I don't trust Ignacio's 180 overnight. I would love for him to find forgiveness and harmony and reconciliation and all of that but he was screaming and yelling yesterday, does that acceptance happen from 'la noche de la manana'?
Hmmm ...autocorrect turned Cynthia into Cantu . Memories of my posts on Invincible . Well, Cantu chews up the sets when be plays villains too .
Jarifa
I can’t take credit for knowing they made Fernando president of their new venture. I read it in your notes! I wish I spoke and understood Spanish well enough to understand everything that’s happening. But at least Fernando will be responsible for whatever happens. He’s done a lot of foolish things while trying to welcome Ignacio into the family.
Liz
Thank you Weirdo for another wonderful recap!
The video Jennifer got was of Leo putting Emilia in his jeep bridal style and she sent it to Sara and said she better get down there ASAP! So that has something to do with how Sara called Emilia 'esa'. Still, Sara is clearly as immediately aggressive as Emilia so that should be interesting.
Susan, yes Nick was Pedro's son in La Herencia.
It was just plain odd the Marijo tied her sweater around her waist and then jumped in the water!!! What??? lol No one would do that, you take the sweater off and then jump. lol
Mau is handsome....but clearly toxic. I don't have a good feeling about him.
I wonder why Roberta loves one son and not the other. Could it be as simple as one is easy to manipulate and the other is a good man with principles as Ignacio said, and she can't get Leo to participate in her corruption. My guess is that's why she wants Leo to leave, so she can do whatever it is she wants to do without him finding out about it.
The 'city' must be right down the street as fast as Sara got there to confront Leo and Emilia.
Episode 23: Notes; Part 1 of 2
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and participation.
Nani brought Maria Teresa some tea as she was trying to make a decision. Maria Teresa then got a call from the realtor that someone made an offer for her apartment. Esteban was sad about this but Maria Teresa told him that this was to save her new home – La Esperanza – that she would be returning to the next day.
Marco and Rutilio talked about their plan, drinking tequila shots to the rat-bastard way they plan on fleecing Maria Teresa. This led to Rutilio making fun of Marco apparently being in love with her.
Adriana and Norma talked about the former's apparent departure from the book club and the issue of Remedios, and leading up to Norma's marriage.
Santos ran to the phone to speak to Maria Teresa. Cris said he's been weird since his return.
Clemente went to the file to look up Jeronimo's death. The report stated that Santos found the body at the bottom of the ravine.
Maria Teresa and Santos talked about ranch stuff and she told him she would be home the next day.
Adriana and Norma talked over much wine. Norma said her marriage was not what it was at first and then talked about her father who died years ago.
Norma got wasted while Adriana remained sober. She had endured Rut's rutting with other women because she believed marriage is forever [She is dumber than I thought.] Irasema said she would not put up with this. They got her sufficiently wasted to call a cab. They laughed behind her back when she was leaving.
Aldo gave Maria Teresa a huge bouquet of red roses and made a new reconciliation pitch. He did his best and pulled out all the stops but Maria Teresa mostly looked indifferent while talking about what she had to do first.
Santos and Cris went to the bar where Cris realized that Santos was in love with Maria Teresa. Santos had to realize that this might not turn into anything and he would have to accept it and carry on.
Clemente helped Norma to her room and brought her coffee. She was very out of it from all the wine as she talked about how she wanted her son to be happy in his future marriage. Not like she has been. He got her into bed and pulled the covers over her.
Santos assigned some of the jobs to others and had Bernarda to the rest. She insisted that Valentina help with the henhouse despite the brat wanting to work with Santos.
Norma had been dead to the world and Rutilio gave her a very rude awakening. Twice he pushed her back down to the bed, the second time accusing her of being overprotective of Clemente.
Episode 23: Notes; Part 2 of 2
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and participation.
Bernarda explained to her daughters about the amount of space hens need [In contrast to how much space she allows them]. After she left them alone Valentina talked about distracting her for Regina's benefit and also became suspicious of Marco.
Santos was hiring new workers as the mother of his latest applicant became too flirtatious and kissed him. Maria Teresa saw this as she arrived and Santos got a very chilly greeting followed by Maria Teresa's unwillingness to talk.
Clemente brought up the issue of Jeronimo's death and told Norma that Santos did not do it.
Marco and Grimaldi [finally got that right] started talking dirty business when Adriana came out, stopping dead in her tracks.
Maria Teresa was angry when returning to her room, throwing things out of her suitcase. Genoveva was confused and even a little scared.
Adriana had to face Grimaldi in front of Marco who introduced them. He was amused when Marco walked away.
Another woman tried coming on to Santos but he put her off, saying he didn't want trouble with the boss.
Adriana tried to get Grimaldi to leave and let him know she wanted nothing to do with him. He wanted to do business with her [most likely the kind of business he met her in]. He finally left but assured that this would not be the last time. She went inside to Irasema in a panic.
Santos entered the hacienda and Genoveva warned him about Maria Teresa's mood, telling him to wait outside. Maria Teresa was at the computer and did not want to see him at the moment.
Valentina tried to get Bernarda to talk about Marco. She refused and walked away before this became the Argument of the Year.
Norma went to Remedios for a headache remedy and to talk. She told Norma not to mind what Adriana says.
Genoveva would not let Santos into the hacienda.
Marco went to Rutilio's office and they argued about Grimaldi.
Thanks Urban, I admire your ability to give so much information so concisely!!! I wish I had that talent!!
I never understand these storylines where the grown children don't know who their father is and their mothers refuse to tell them! I just can't imagine it....it seems impossible to me but I recognize that is just because my own life experience. I have a very big family, at multiple generations. I have way more relatives than the lady had in My Big Fat Greek Wedding! Anyway, you couldn't keep a secret like that if you wanted to in my family, because even if you didn't want to say for some reason, someone else would.
We have of course the kiss misunderstanding with Maria Teresa and Santos....we knew it would happen. I was surprised that Grimaldi found Adriana so quickly, I thought that would be more drawn out.
Drunk Norma was the most interesting Norma has ever been and it wasn't all that interesting.
Clemente is going to be the bane of the corrupt police force, he's too astute and not afraid to do the work. He's going to find out what really goes on in this town and that will likely put him in mortal danger before this tale is done.
I forgot to say, I cracked up when Jen's dad (I can't remember his name) said he wouldn't get divorced because it's a sin!!! LOL but adultery isn't??
Thanks, weirdow. I don't know why, but this novela somehow is hard to understand for me for now.
I was confused about that whole houses business. I thought the Tiger wanted a loan so they could explore thatdevil's cave because there's gold there. But then he randomly talked about not losing the house after he had just woken up. And how he can offer his daughter's house as a guarantee? Wouldn't he need her to agree? This is where I get frustrated with my lack of Spanish skills.
I was wondering why I couldn't bring myself to like Roberta and I think I just find her boring and a bit confusing. She makes it obvious her kindness and care aren't genuine and then gets mad at her husband for asking a servant to bring him tea.I always find it funny when people just expect others to 'respect' them by following stupid rules they themselves have just invented and yet do nothing to convince the other person they mean it. Roberta isn't a very good manipulator if shecan only handle easy targets. It's a pity Ignacio won't be here for long because I like his actor a lot.
I have a feeling I'd enjoy the original antagonist of La Patrona much more. Is the galan of that other show enjoyable too? I hope he isn't another David, which from now on is my basic requirement.
How long will it be before Emilia and Leo start a relationship and she gets pregnant?
That whole bullying because the kid has no father plot is odd. I never understood why they pick this angle in particular. Kids can be mean for no real reason. I could see them bullying Nico isay, he was poor and they were rich or something. But in a mining town like this, where it's very likely someone's father had died in the mines, the bullying is somewhat confusing. I wonderif they are going to do anything with this. Unless it's here just so Nico would go on and on abouthow he wants his mother to marry Leo so he could have a father.
Susan, isn't it a tradition for the Iturbides to get married as soon as possible? Luis is just following the trend! They should have had a competition of who gets married faster. I do think Rogelio won this time. Even Ceci could compete maybe?
Urban, thank you as always for your wonderful recaps. You always fill in all the gaps in my understanding.
Darcy, I agree with you about these young adults not knowing who their father is. How would they have gone so long and let Bernarda off the hook with her silence on this matter. I also agree that a drunken Norma is the most interesting she has been thus far.
I really like the story line of Grimaldi and Adrianna. I can't wait to see where this goes. Regarding Grimaldi, I don't understand why Marco and Rutilio was agruing about him? What business does Rutilio and Grimaldi have?
I am amazed that the young lady who kissed Santos on the lips would do this so easily, and with her boyfriend/husband standing right there. How can anyone kiss someone like this when they just met?
Clemente is such an interesting character. I love the way he is getting to the truth about the death of Marco's father. I hope he keeps digging and the trail leads to Adrianna.
Adrianna has quite the history, a murderess and a former prostitute.
Lester
I have been watching this TN and so far, I like Tierra much more. Minas is confusing to me. Perhaps just because it's new and I am unfamiliar with the characters.
Lester
Urban, thank you for the clear, fascinating and well done recap. I completely agree with Darcy that your concise summaries are admirable and enviable!
"She (Norma) had endured Rut's rutting with other women because she believed marriage is forever [She is dumber than I thought" was right! Mindless and boring too I mutter annoyedly.
Maria Teresa sees a meaningless kiss and the race on how far and how fast she and Santos will continue to stay apart is already underway. We can't even blame Valentina for this but I'm sure she will have significant blame to shoulder later.
Grimaldi has Adriana hot and bothered. And not in a good way. I'd say his days are numbered.
Diana
I definitely think that Norma is pathetic. Most of her clothes thus far put her at least three decades behind everyone else in this place which makes her helicopter parenting the town joke. That she accepts Rut's disrespect is beyond disturbing.
It looks like the misunderstanding of that kiss is going to separate MT and Santos already so we don't need to speculate on how they would keep their relationship on the down-low. I just hope that MT doesn't end up marrying Aldo who seems to cringe every time he kisses her.
While it looks odd that Bernarda's daughters don't know who their sperm donors are it looks equally odd that they have lived in this place their whole lives and there appears not to be any gossip about Bernarda herself on this subject. Does she even have any friends off the ranch? All I can say is if Rutilio was the sperm donor for Regina that would be tragic for her and Clemente unless he was switched at birth.
Gracias, Weirdo, because I am still a little confused.
Adalberto is a huge hypocrite and now we have to believe that the whole town is corrupt. Was he going to kill Nico in order to destroy Emilia?
For a villana to favor one son and hate or be indifferent to another is nothing new; Roberta is a valid example of such a character. Other than her own family and anyone above her socially all other humans are trash. What we need more info about is what else it was about Leo that made her hate him this much as a child.
Jennifer is pathetic but obviously Roberta wants an in to that family. Mauricio needs a bloody good hiding for stalking Emilia.
Obviously the identity of Emilia's rapist is going to remain secret from us for a while. My vote is for Adalberto but now I also suspect Mauricio.
I like this telenovela so far probably because I am a fan of Oswaldo ( Leo) and Cesar . He resembles someone I know .I like the way he treats Nico. His character reminds me of the sweet galan in " Mujer" who was very loving and supportive of the impoverished and ill leading lady's two young children . True hero behavior.
Emilia has two guys competing for her, but Leo will quickly become alpha wolf.
I thought it was sweet That Nick purposely showed off Leo to the kids who bullied him about not having a father.
Sara is going to be hell on wheels protecting her territory ( Leo).
Jennifer looked beautiful in that wedding gown.
I like Emilia's father Tigre. He kissed that photo of Emilia's mother. I wonder if he will not marry Zaira because he still loves his wife and would feel disloyal to her if he remarried.
When Emilia had the flashback of the rape in the car and demanded to be let out , Leo stopped the car and they both got out and talked , so Leo knows something freaked her out . The guy's face in the flashback was blurred, but he had dark hair and eyes. It could have been Mau . Emilia looked scared of him when he grabbed her In last night's episode . Leo intervened and punched him and then her regular protector Seb showed up as back up. Leo ( Oswaldo) looks like a guy who knows how to throw a punch. Go, Leo. Since both Leo and Seb are now Emilia's protectors, what kind of relationship will these two have? Seb seems to be the kind of guy who will still be Emilia's friend even if she falls in love with Leo. I hope Seb is that type of guy.
Sara pointed to Emilia and referred to her as " esta" and Emilia seemed annoyed. What was that about ? Is " esta" impolite.
Weirdo, after Leo and Emilia got out of the car and he talked to her , they got back into the car and drove to the mine. Then, Leon saw Mau grab Emilia and Emilia looking scared, so I am wondering if Leo is putting 2 + 2 together and figuring out that Mau is the cause of Emilia's aggressive behavior towards him (Leo).
Thanks, Urban, you get it all down and ready to share with the rest of us. We appreciate it.
I think I’m going to enjoy Adriana’s discomfort around Grimaldi. Norma is too easy a target for her so Grimaldi should keep her on her toes.
Norma infuriates me. She just believes whoever is talking to her in the moment. And hubby mistreats her and she seems to think that’s ok.
I figured Valentina would be the one to cause trouble between them, but some random kiss made Maria Teresa mad! I wonder if she’ll settle for Aldo. Her dad seems to think he loves her. I’m thinking he wants marriage for some other reason. And Marco’s spy is there, and she seems to tell Marco all her plans anyway. This ranch will be in trouble till the end!
Clemente is a bright spot. I hope he brings the bad guys(dad included)to justice.
Liz
Susan, 'esta' isn't offensive in general but it's insulting the way Sara used it. Translated it would be: 'You're fighting with your brother over this?' Her tone and gesture indicating that Emilia was insignificant.
Darcy, "I read 'My sister's Keeper' by Jodi Picoult. It was a really interesting book and Jodi is a very good writer. I liked how the book brought out all of the different conflicting feelings and sides of the issue instead of just painting it by one person's perspective." i never read that book but I think would have appreciated the handling of the subject. I think that is another thing I am appreciating about this novela: the different issues it is bringing up for thought/discussion. "I don't trust Ignacio's 180 overnight." Me, either. He still is in cahoots with at least two shady characters with the end of bringing down the Iturbides. He needs a lot more time with his therapist.
Liz, I was confused if Fernando was suddenly voted the president for the whole company/corporation but when you worded it like you did, it made more sense. He is the president of that particular company or division of the larger company/corporation.. So, we thought this one through together whether we knew it or not. LOL
Gracias, Jarifa. Always a treat.
Glad to see Paula and Cecilia reunited. There was nothing that should've made their riff last for life anyway.
I still don't trust that Ignacio won't use Cecilia in his plan to hurt the Iturbides.
If this is the only way to get a donor match, I can see going for a new baby. But Imelda is so awful, she'll use this to stay in the family. If she weren't a b****, she and Fernando could have artificial insemination and get a divorce. I shudder to think how Imelda would treat the new baby if she/he isn't a match.
I missed a bit and hadn't realized Luis knew Paula first. Doesn't seem like he made a move to date her back then. Not a bad guy, but why Andrea wants to marry someone who is only tepid about her is beyond me.
Niecie, I saw all the episodes and had sort of forgotten about Luis having had met Paula way back when. "Not a bad guy, but why Andrea wants to marry someone who is only tepid about her is beyond me." I don't get it either.
I have to say that I would have another baby if it was the only way to possibly save my child.
NOTES FROM THE COUCH will be up for the latest episodes on Sunday some time.
Thanks a lot guys! I can't believe there were so many comments on Minas the one day when I couldn't come here LOL.
Susan, thanks for the car scene I missed and "I thought it was sweet That Nick purposely showed off Leo to the kids who bullied him about not having a father." I missed that too! Interesting comments, as always. I think Darcy answered all of your questions.
I am also suspecting Mau for being Emilia's rapist.
Diana, thanks for explaining the video I missed. Also "Perhaps it’s just me but Roberta seems very one dimensional." I tend to agree, which is very infuriating for me, because the OG antagonist wasn't one dimensional. I think they tried to change her character, but they couldn't do it well and we got this.
Darcy, thanks to you too for the phone scene. "I cracked up when Jen's dad (I can't remember his name) said he wouldn't get divorced because it's a sin!!!" Wait, what? I also missed that! LOL is this guy (Adalberto) trolling us?
I loved your theory about why Roberta doesn't love Leo. I think that's it.
Waterlily, "I don't know why, but this novela somehow is hard to understand for me for now." Yes, it's hard for me too and I also can't pinpoint the reason!
The house scene confused me too. It wasn't very clear.
I loved this: "I have a feeling I'd enjoy the original antagonist of La Patrona much more. Is the galan of that other show enjoyable too?" And I cracked up at this: "I hope he isn't another David, which from now on is my basic requirement." LOL Yes, I think you'd enjoy Antonia Guerra. She was my favourite character, especially after the first half of the show. Alejandro, the OG galán, wasn't a David, so he's safe to watch LOL
"Minas is confusing to me." To me too, Lester! I hope things clear up later.
Urban, I agree with everything, especially with this: "Jennifer is pathetic" I can't stand her, she reminds me of Gigí (or Berta, whatever you prefer) so much.
The recap will be posted later today (in a few hours).
Since there is nothing that captures my attention at this time, I am again watching old novelas I've seen before, some many times.
I just finished El Privilegio de Amar not so great this time around.
I'm currently watching Alborada and enjoying Blog Mom's original recaps and the comments.
It isn't anywhere near as much fun watching a novella without Caray.
There are so many recappers and commentators I miss.!
The San Lorenzo mines, the safest workplace in Mexico: certainly no fires, no collapses and no attempted murders - Part 1/3
Some scenes aren't in order and/or fused for flow's sake.
Ignacio tells Roberta about some account that doesn't belong to them making some sort of money transfer. Roberta says she'll take care of the robbing, for now he should rest and not worry about work, she doesn't want him to get worse. Come on, Ignacio. She's suspiciously sweet and you know what she's like. WAKE UP!
Emilia and Sara already know each other, they went to the same school. Emilia, for whatever reason, pretends to be in a relationship with Sebastián and he plays along. I'm starting to seriously dislike Emilia. When she's alone with Seb, she says she just pretended they were together because of Sara and Leo and they can't be together in real life. Talk about mixed signals... Why is Seb hanging out with her again? Oh and she adds that every time she sees Leo, she just wants to hit him! Girl! He saved your KID!
Sara tells Leo that Emilia and Seb make a nice couple. He seems kind of jealous, but Sara doesn't notice.
Mauricio is whining to Jenny about Leo and Emilia. She tells him he should forget her. He doesn't seem eager to. He says he'll find a way to get Leo out of here.
Marijó and Gael say to the kids Gael was with they could have tried to save him. They say that his (Gael's) girlfriend (Marijó) did it anyway. They leave. She tells him about the auto-corrected message. (Why didn't she just sent another one afterwards saying it was auto-corrected? QTH?) After a short conversation, Gael whines to her about Ignacio and Roberta, he generally speaks very bad of them, especially of Roberta. Marijó tells him he's Ignacio's daughter. (And another confusion I have to clear up: Roberta is Marijó's STEPmother. Here she, for whatever reason, says she's her MOTHER, but just like with Leo and Ignacio, they're not related by blood.) Gael apologises, Marijó says he only said the truth.
Zaira and Tigre get into another fight. She wants to know where he is, he says he didn't do anything bad. She says that she's a witch can talk to angels and tells him he'll sleep on the couch. Again.
Marijó gets back home. Joaquina says she was worried and tells her about Ignacio losing consciousness. Marijó runs to his room to see him.
Roberta is with Fidel. She tells him about the robbing and that she'll investigate it. I think he calls her "senadora", she says that he shouldn't call her that, she's the Patrona. Fidel says that she's his and he's the senator, so she's the senadora. Roberta then talks about Emilia, that she has a plan and says something about sending her to hell. Fidel kisses her.
Leo doesn't understand why Sara is here. She replies that she's here to help him with the mines so he can finish sooner and get back to the capital. Leo tells her he's not that sure about it, his dad needs him. Sara proposes that maybe they can spend the night together. He rejects the proposal, he has work tomorrow. Sara doesn't look very happy. (Okay, now. She's supposed to be "independent"? She literally came back to San Lorenzo to get Leo to leave so that no woman will "steal" him from her!)
Marijó and her father talk. She tells him she met a boy (without saying his name) but she doesn't think he likes her. Ignacio says that if he's smart, he'll want a smart girl like her. Then they talk about how he met her mother and we know they mean her biological mother and not Roberta when Ignacio says that he liked her because she was honest.
The San Lorenzo mines, the safest workplace in Mexico: certainly no fires, no collapses and no attempted murders - Part 2/3
Nico goes to sleep. Before he falls asleep, he tells his mom that if he had a dad, he'd want a dad like Leo. Emilia thinks back to when he told her he would never hurt her or her son and when he hit Mau so he lets her go. Leo is thinking of the same things, says to himself "what's up with me?" and starts driving.
It's the next day.
Emilia and her dad say they should start exploring la Cueva del Diablo. Also, what's up with Emilia? Why is she talking to her father and her SON with the FORMAL usted? ¿Qué?
Sara is having breakfast with her family, minus Adalberto. They talk about him. Jenny says he's been out for more time, he's coming home late etc. She's not gonna tell her mom about the affair? It doesn't look like it. Gigí defends him and says he's working with senator Roldán (Fidel) and they should be thankful. Adalberto finally comes home and whines to Sara about her not wanting to get married (Sara and the OG Sara, Irene, have A LOT of differences too...) He leaves, again. Gigí takes his side! Ugh, shut it, Berta.
Mau the Whiner does what he does best: whine (and this comes from someone who whines frequently irl, so that's saying something). He tells Roberta about Leo hitting him for Emilia. Roberta says he doesn't want neither of her sons to have anything with that mugrosa (filthy, so "with that filth").
Mau is feeling rebellious today: he goes to see the "mugrosa" and Nico. He asks him how old he is, Nico says 6. He tries to initiate some discussion, but Leo comes and Nico runs to him. He wants to go with Leo to his office and asks Emilia if he can. Emilia says yes, but he should stay close to Leo. Nico looks very happy. Mau, on the other hand, does not.
Another Tigre scene: if I understood correctly, Tigre is at the bank. He wants to transfer all the money he took from the loan to Ignacio's account. He changes his mind and keeps some money to pay some bills (?) he hasn't paid for a long time. (These loan scenes killed me. I'm only A2 in Spanish, this type of vocabulary is hard!)
Emilia is talking to some woman (Doña Alicia?). The woman mentions a "Salvador" that hasn't contacted her and adds that her son looks like his dad (? Huh? I definitely heard that, but it doesn't make any sense, except if she thinks Leo is Nico's dad? They do look alike). Emilia, after this, looks at Leo playing with Nico. She thinks back to what Nico said: "If I had a dad, I'd want him to be like Leo".
Roberta wants to fire some miners. The guy who works in the office says he can't do that without Don Ignacio's authorisation. She tells him not to call her Patrona if he isn't ready to follow her orders and tells him Ignacio hasn't been feeling well and about the robbing.
Emilia thanks Leo for taking care of Nico. Ignacio comes in the room and we get a nice family scene with these three. Out of the blue, Ignacio starts to feel bad and tells Emilia to show Leo the tunnel. Nico wants to come too, but he's too young.
Emilia explains to Leo that by digging deeper to extract gold, their safety is at risk. Leo thinks they should close the tunnel completely for a year, Emilia says they can't afford not to have jobs for a year. Leo tells her to find another solution then, she says they could close a specific part of the tunnel and they could work in the other side. They start fighting again, because Leo says that it's not a good idea, every engineering manual says so. Emilia says she knows the place though and she can teach him about it. Before their fight stops, Emilia's prediction comes true: there's a collapse and she gets trapped with Leo in the tunnel.
The San Lorenzo mines, the safest workplace in Mexico: certainly no fires, no collapses and no attempted murders - Part 3/3
Tigre finds gold in la Cueva del Diablo!
Roberta calls Seb into her office (or Ignacio's?) She shows him a paper with the requests Emilia had for the mine and tells him it's his fault for them coming later that expected. Ignacio asks him if he had anything to do with it. He says no, he's very confused. The bell for the collapse goes off. They all go outside and learn about it. They want to get Tigre, he's the most experienced one in these things. Roberta begs Ignacio to save her son.
Emilia and Leo are fine, as fine one can be when trapped in a tunnel in the mines. They say there's no exit, which is bad regarding to the oxygen.
Mau is worried about Emilia. Roberta tells him to calm down and reminds him his brother is in there too.
Some cop (could that be that Ezequiel guy we haven't seen yet?) stops Tigre for trespassing on private property. He wants to get him to the precinct. At this moment, Seb calls Tigre and tells him what has happened. Tigre hits the cop and leaves.
Nico is crying and saying he wants to see his mom. The woman from before is holding him. Sara and Roberta come to see what's happening. Sara says that Leo is also trapped there. Nico cries that he wants to see his dad too. Sara turns around, shocked. Roberta violently grabs Nico and says she'll handle this.
They take him to her office. Nico explains that Leo isn't actually his dad, but he knows his mom loves him and he loves her mom. He also tells them he doesn't know his biological father nor where he is.
Emilia starts hitting a rock on a metal pipe to make some noise with the hope the others will hear them. Leo tries to comfort her and tells her everything will be alright, they'll get out of here and it'll be like a bad dream.
The operation to save them is in full swing: they hear the noise and try to find an entrance to get in. Mau is also there and is being very annoying, as usual.
Speaking of Mau, Emilia flashbacks to a scene when they were young and friends. No important info here.
Roberta tells the dude who works for her, that Patricio, to put something in the power plant (? What the heck is a "power plant"?) He says that's sugar, if he does this Leo and the others will die; Roberta tells him to do it, except if he wants Ignacio to find out about the forged signatures on Emilia's papers he did to frame Seb.
Sara says she loves Leo, he always wanted to get married with her, have kids and she never even said she loves him! Roberta, the definition of hypocrisy, tells her to calm down, everything will be alright. What a b!tch.
Emilia faints. Leo tries to get her to wake up. She does.
Tigre has a risky plan that will either save Emilia and Leo or kill them instantly. They'll do it, probably.
Zaira comes to see Nico. Nico keeps crying. He thinks he'll never see his mom again. (I have to say, I'm impressed with this kid's acting. I have a feeling he'll be a telenovela star one day.)
More Emilia and Leo mine scenes of unimportant dialogue. I'll admit it: after hearing the first minutes, I just FF--> them.
Roberta calls Fidel. He says he's heard, the collapse is everywhere on the news; he asks her how she is. She says that after the fire incident, they might close the mine; the have to bury the news (pun intended). Even Fidel can't believe how cold she is. Roberta says she called him to take care of it. Joaquina was listening to the last part and calls her "maldita assessina" (damn killer). Uh oh.
Emi and Leo faint because there isn't enough oxygen. They grab each other's hand before they lose consciousness and I think Emi said something about people who die together being tied together forever.
And with our leading (future) couple, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
Minas de Pasión should have been called Minas de Confusión with all these confusing scenes.
Roberta is pure evil and much different than the OG Antonia.
I will do Monday's recap. Can anyone else help with the recapping? Thanks.
I have loved every iteration of this story and am enjoying this one too (machimorra Livia and her silicone body notwithstanding).
Anette is playing Roberta as a very one-dimensional villain, and I LIKE that. I am sick of all these "villanas humanas" or "villanas cachetadas" who let all the men do the heavy-lifting when it comes to evil.
I long for the days of serial-killer aunts and psychotic "best friends" of our Protagonista..... :-(
Weirdo, this was wonderful!! So much happened and you captured the action and excitement/panic beautifully.
"Mau the Whiner does what he does best: whine (and this comes from someone who whines frequently irl, so that's saying something)" had me smiling away. Thank you for infusing your wry humor in this on the edge of your seat episode.
The cavein seemed inevitable but happened quicker than I thought. We know Emi and Leo survive but sadly, I do not share that sentiment regarding Ignacio.
"Confusing" certainly describes many of the events as you described them. I'm still trying to figure out who everyone is and what the interrelationships are, it usually takes me a while.
Emilia wants Seb as a BFF but anyone can see he loves and adores her. Surely she does as well.
Sara has no warmth or charm to me whatsoever. Come to think of it, neither does anyone in her family. Quite a few unlikeable characters here.
Weirdo, thank you so much for your recaps. Without them I would be lost as I am having a hard time following. Due to the late hour this is on, my very limited Spanish skills and the fact I'm struggling to understand what's transpiring, I would be of no help trying to recap.
Diana
Thank you Weirdo for another wonderful recap! It might be confusing but it's less so with you providing all the details.
When Tigre was in the bank and he took a few bills back he said it was for something he had pending for several years. I don't think he was going to pay bills but rather buy something. It's not really clear but putting all the clues together throughout the week - especially mortgaging Emilia's house and then seeing him in that mine finding gold, I think he just bought a mine claim for that mine where he just knew there was gold. That's why he said 'I'm not going to lose the house', he was risking it to buy the claim but counting on striking gold so he could pay off the mortgage...not 100% sure but that's what it adds up to to me.
I don't think Joaquina was very smart to call Roberta a murderer to her face, but I admire her spunk!
Roberta is willing to kill her own son!!! Wow! I wonder how long Roberto and Ignacio have been married, you said the other day it didn't make sense that he stayed for the kids but Marijo is the youngest and she's not Roberta's, so they couldn't have been married all that many years. Also, they talk her Marijo's mom as if she's dead but Marijo says she doesn't want to go back to Canada and wants to stay with dad, so is she in boarding school?
I don't really think Emilia was giving Seb mixed signals, he knew immediately what she was doing and why. Also, the we can't be together talk didn't feel like the first time they have had that conversation, I'm thinking he knows exactly where he stands and just doesn't like it.
I don't think I've ever heard someone ever flat out say the whine frequently, lol I like that! I am sorry but I can't join the recapping team this time. Like Diana the late hour is going to be an issue for me and on top of that I just have a lot going on IRL right now. I hope others will join you.
Weirdo, thank you for another snappy recap . I really like this show so far . I watch the first half and record the rest . I haven't watched the second half yet, but when I get a chance to watch, I will understand what people are saying .
I like Seb , and I feel sorry fur him . He is hopelessly devoted to Emilia even though she keeps firm!y pushing him into the friend zone. I am watching an old telenovela and the total devotion to the leading lady by an incredibly sweet guy actually hurts me .She gives him no hope , but he never stops gazing at her and telling her that he will love her forever and always be there for her. I watched the last episode if that old telenovela , and he definitely doesn't end up being with the leading lady even though he is so much better in every way than the supposed galan. So, it will hard for me to watch Seb suffer as Emilia gets closer and closer.
Does Seb work in the mine office ?
I have no idea what Tigre is doing with those piles of money which he seemed to get from some guy at a house ????? Then he took the money to a bank ????
Weirdo, you cleared up some things for me. Whenever they were talking about methods to rescue E and L, I was like 'I give up.' When Emilia said she knows the types of rocks, I wanted to scream,'please, just don't start listing all those types because I'm onlya2!'
I checked that scene with Roberta and Fidel. She also wanted him to help her disappear 'las escrituras' (don't know what the translation of this word is) that make that cueva Emilia's property. They still think Emilia hasn't yet told Ignacio about Roberta's affair, but apparently escrituras matter more and Roberta thinks Emilia knows what a scary witch Roberta is and is too scared of her to do anything.
In those scenes at the mine where theywere dying, I kept thinking about the Tytanic movie. All those people working there must be desperate to keep the job if they are willing to wrok in a place where no one cares about their security. Emilia said the fully salary isn't enough and Roberta wants to sack more people. Interesting way to manage things for sure.
Did the guy put whatever he was supposed to put in the power plant? I thought power plant was used to produce electricity. But I thought it was like the entire building where the electricity is produced so got confused. My dictionary says it's an engine that provides power so they must have one there.
Susan, what telenovela are you watching? Don't most of them have this pattern: main guy is kind of an ass and the second best is the one a reasonable lady might fancy?
Waterlily ( great name ) I have been watching Venevision shows. I am currently watching " Pecadoras ." it is a very weird, over the top show based on an old U.S . movie " Coyote Ugly ." I don't understand many words , but I can figure out some plotlines from the visuals .
May I ask how many languages you speak? Weirdo said that she is studying Spanish and German. Impressive. I am always amazed at students I have had who speak multiple languages . I know that in Canada all students study French and some go on to total immersion at middle school level with all their subjects taught in French. I studied French in high school and college and still recognize some words , but I have never been good at speaking or understanding French. Languages are fascinating . English has an enormous amount of words because it has taken words from so many other languages ...Arabic, Turkish, Latin, Greek.
Great comments, everyone!
Jaime, interesting view on one-dimensional villains. LOL for "serial-killer aunts and psychotic "best friends""
Diana, "Quite a few unlikeable characters here." Yes! I can easily list half the cast. Although Invencible is still the telenovela with the most unlikable characters LOL
Also, "We know Emi and Leo survive but sadly, I do not share that sentiment regarding Ignacio." Yes, I also think Ignacio won't make it alive.
Darcy, thanks for your explanation of the Tigre scenes. They were confusing at best. As for Emilia giving mixed signals to Seb, one minute she's pretending to be with him, giving him false hope and then she says they can't be together... Ugh.
Susan, I also like Seb, as long as he doesn't turn into David from Invencible (ITA with Waterlily on that). And yes, he works in the mine office.
Waterlily, LOL about Emilia listing the types of rocks. I'm also A2 level in Spanish! Thanks for the additional info on the Roberta-Fidel scene. "Las escrituras", I guess that comes from "escribir", which means "to write", so I guess she meant the papers that prove Emilia is the owner of the Cueva del Diablo. Very interesting, thanks a lot.
"Emilia said the fully salary isn't enough and Roberta wants to sack more people. Interesting way to manage things for sure." LOL Waterlily I always love your commentary.
"My dictionary says it's an engine that provides power so they must have one there." That's interesting, but still confusing. Why is this show so confusing?
OT
Susan, I agree, languages are awesome! I started Spanish to watch telenovelas in their OG version, without the stupid Greek dubbing. The moment I was sure about my decision was when the channel here that showed telenovelas just stopped showing telenovelas. I was like "fine, I'll do it myself" LOL
Hey Susan, there's a very good PDF explaining each CEFR level. Just search for "CEFR Can-Do Statements" and you'll see it. I would link it here but because it's a PDF I can't.
(For some reason I keep forgetting the CEFR is only European.)
Finally got to see the last half of this episode. Wow! Pretty exciting with Emilia and Leo trapped in the mine and rotten Roberta trying to keep them there. Leo's words to Emilia about dying together and thus being together for eternity were touching .
Cesar is so charismatic . I love his hearty laugh and big smile . That was a sweet scene of Nico, Ignacio, Emilia, and Leo all together .
Another touching scene was Zaira bringing food to Nico and hugging him . Maybe she is a good soul after all.
I had to laugh at haughty Sara wiping her hand on her skirt after shaking hands with Emilia.
I wonder how many supporting roles actors have to have before getting a chance to play the galan. This is the first show that I have seen Oswaldo in as the galan. I have seen him in several supporting roles , and he was always good.
That scene with Emilia and Leo would have wroked far better if it had happened later.Words have power and if they really wanted to use that bit about souls staying together for all eternity, they have just ruined a good scene, at least for me it's ruined. It's only episode 4, for God's sake! If,say, they had ended up in that mine ewhen Leo was on the point of marrying Sarah and Emilia had said that line about souls, now that would have been touching. How many episodes does this telenovela have? Because they seem in such a rush to put these two in the typical 'danger' situation that I was wondering if they were going to get married in episode 10.
Part 1
Notes from the couch with a glass of wine in my hand and pizza by my side.
The drama was running high on Friday night.
IGNACIO/IRMA Ignacio visits his mother and tells her that maybe they need to forget about going to live at Villa Morelia. The Iturbides were fine with him. She insists that Martina stole Hipólito from her and is now stealing him. She is upset that he has given up on the Iturbides destruction so easily.
IGNACIO/THE ITURBIDES After all the nicie nice kumbaya moments at the cookout, Martina and Rogelio prove that they really haven't changed how they feel about their newly found family member Ignacio. Fernando wants them to split the company's capital equally in five parts since they all work at the company except for Luis. Martina does not agree since Fernando and especially Rogelio have done all the work to keep the company running. No way will Ignacio be on a par with Rogelio. Fernando tells her that this move is like a message to Ignacio how he is going to be accepted into the family. Rogelio wants it put to a vote. Fernando's proposal gets only his and Marco's vote. Rogelio suggests that he and Fernando each give part other percentage to Ignacio and that it will be less than what is allotted to Marco and Luis. So, when it literally comes to putting their money where their mouth is, Martina and Rogelio manage to limit Ignacio's percentage. Their attitude is that once they see what kind of value Ignacio can bring to the company, then they will will reconsider his percentage.
Fernando goes running to Ignacio to tell him about the meeting that his mother just commandeered and how his percentage is less than Marco's and Luis'. Ignacio is irate. He knew all along that Rogelio was being fake with him. Just for a moment, he believed Martina but now he knows that she will never see him as one of them. He is going to show them all who he really is.
Ignacio talks to his aunt who reminds him that she was right about the Iturbides.. Now he needs to get what is his due.
IGNACIO/CECILIA Ignacio tells Cecilia what the Iturbides did to him at the board meeting. She thinks that he is expecting too much. They don't know him yet. He needs to give them time. He is angry that she isn't sticking up for him no matter what.
IRMA Irma has been saving her meds in a kleenex. She rips a paper from the back of her medical records when the nurse isn't looking and writes a note with a pen. She washes down her accumulated pills and dies. The note is for Ignacio. Her life has been hell. She wants Ignacio to finish the Iturbides off. That is her last wish. She loves him now and will love him from beyond the grave. Ignacio tells her that he is all in for the Iturbide's destruction.
THERAPY Ignacio tells his therapist about his ambivalence in carrying out his mother's last wish. When will he get to live his own life? The answer is that he needs to give it all time.
ROGELIO/FIDEL/CARMELO/IGNACIO Rogelio tells Fidel that he has a better and different attitude now towards Ignacio so he wants him to contact Carmelo and tell him that under no circumstances is he to reveal to Ignacio that he was asking him for illegal dirt on him so that he could get him off of the executive board. He is to threaten Carmelo with sending him back to jail.
ROGELIO/HIS BROS/A BAR Rogelio arranges for all five brothers to go out for drinks. They all show up even Ignacio. Carmelo also is there in the shadows and starts pressuring Ignacio to arrange more drug transports for him and threatening him. Ignacio tells him if he touches his wife, he will kill him. Unfortunately for Ignacio, that isn't all that Carmelo has to tell him. It turns out that Fidel hasn't had a chance to talk to Carmelo. Carmelo tells Ignacio what Rogelio wanted him to do. That is all Ignacio needs to hear and he agrees to work with Carmelo to destroy the Iturbides.
A PLEASANT SERENATA WITH A SOUR ENDING TO THE EVENING After an evening of drinking, Rogelio decides that he and his bros should do a serenade at the old family home. They hire some mariachis and sing their hearts out as Paula, Marina, Blanca and even Imelda (for a short time) look on from the balcony.
Rogelio has an unpleasant end to his evening when Ignacio shows up. He just found out that Rogelio hired Caramelo to find dirt on him to ruin him. He hired an ex con he was with in jail with knowing that he wanted to kill him. He wants to hear it from Rogelio himself. Paula asks Rogelio if that is true. Rogelio looks suddenly veryuncomfortable.
EVERYTHING ELSE:
ULISES/PAULA/ROGELIO Ulises tells Paula that the husband of one of the women at the foundation performance wants to hire the two of them to perform together at several other functions. She tells Rogelio who is less than pleased. She tries to explain that music helps her to relax and it makes her happy. Rogelio gets snarky and says that SHE makes him happy. She knows where this is going and tells him she needs music, HER music. He has nothing more to say.
ANDREA/LUIS Andrea tells Luis that she feels like a stranger at the Iturbide house. There is too much drama always going on. She and Luis talk about their careers that are important to both font hem. He suggests that she could expand her father's law firm into international business in Los Angeles. He also adds, that if staying at her father's firm in Mexico is so important to her, he will stay in Mexico. Hearing he is willing to make the sacrifice, Andrea agrees togo to Los Angeles with him. Andrea tells her father what is going on. He is not happy when he thinks that Luis was thinking that his career was more important than hers but changes his mind when he hears the whole story. He tells her that his law firm will always be there for her. Luis tells Martina that he and Andrea are moving to the USA. She only wants him to be happy. Andrea and Luis plan their wedding just for their families.
MARCO/BLANCA Marco and Blanca work on their bus. Marco tells her that he wants to move out so they can live on their own. Blanca encourages him to stay at home since there are so many issues his mother is dealing with lately. They can always move out later. Marco says to his mother , who admits to having heard the conversation, that he really wants to move out some time so he can stand on his own two feet and prove to himself he can be independent. She is in no rush to see him go. Martina also overheard Blanca telling Marco that this wasn't the best time to leave because of her and thanks her. That makes Blanca feel good.
IMELDA/FERNANDO As they wait for the test results for ADA (I still want to write AVA), Imelda agrees to finally give Fernando his divorce. Her only condition is that the divorce not take place until ADA is better. They finally get the test results and ADA has no terrible disease but is only iron deficient which can be treated with supplements. That should have left Fernando happy but, unfortunately, he and Imelda worked on getting pregnant BEFORE they found out what ADA's diagnosis was. Fernando expresses his regret. WHOOPSIE!
FERNANDO/XIMENA Fernando blocks Ximena from all of his social networks. She ends up calling him to see how ADA is. He asks her not to call him again.
MARTINA/FOUNDATION Martina decides to take action against her ouster from the presidency of the foundation by Beatriz. She invites a woman from a local agency that has been supported by the foundation for 20 years under her direction, to make an appearance. It doesn't hurt that the woman gives Martina an award for all the foundation has done for them. It is at that time that Martina announces her candidacy for "presidenta" of the foundation. Beatriz cringes in her seat. Martina later laughs when recounting Beatriz's reaction to Gabriel.
PAULA/ROGELIO/JAZZ Paula and Rogelio find out that they are going to have a baby girl. Paula decides to name her Jazz in honor of the musical style. Rogelio is surprised but then agrees.
AUNT PATI/LUCAS/ULISES/ALE Aunt Pati calls Rogelio to see if she can take Lucas out fr an ice cream after work. He says sure but wants her to refrain from making any comments against him and his family while she is with him. She agrees. Aunt Pati picks him up at school while Ale is thinking Ulises is going out with her after school. Her plans are thwarted when he ends up going with Lucas and aunt Pati who seems to have beaten her to the punch in spite of her plans with him. He seems sort of interested in aunt Pati, too. When aunt Pati is called away to the hospital for an emergency, Ulises ends up taking Lucas home. He tells Rogelio that aunt Pati said she was going to call him. Rogelio goes to check his phone and finds out that that his battery is dead.
Please feel free to add anything I left out.
Jarifa, there were many glittering, golden nuggets strewn throughout your exceptional recap.
Irma was a tortured, bitter, hateful soul. She left this earth of her own volition and wherever her spirit lands, I doubt she will ever find the peace that eluded her in life.
“After all the nice kumbaya moments at the cookout, Martina and Rogelio prove that they really haven't changed how they feel about their newly found family member Ignacio”. As you wisely noted, these leopards can’t (and won’t) change their spots. At least Rogelio had the good grace to be somewhat embarrassed when Ignacio confronted him at the end.
“He is angry that she isn't sticking up for him no matter what”. Is Ceci ever going to be able to do anything right? Only a miracle is going to save their marriage.
Why does Fidel have to do all the dirty work? Rogelio afraid he will soil his pristine hands??
The high schoolish, drunken off-key serenade wasn’t cute, romantic, or appealing. Or funny! ☹
“She tries to explain that music helps her to relax and it makes her happy. Rogelio gets snarky and says that SHE makes him happy. She knows where this is going and tells him she needs music, HER music”. To be fair, I understand Rogelio’s viewpoint but his comments replete with full on attitude aren’t heling his case. Paula loves her husband and has no interest in anyone else and it is all about the music. She wants something that is hers. Uli is a sticking point and they are either going to have to talk it out and mutually agree on a solution or someone is going to have to give.
Andrea knows she shouldn’t marry Luis. I hope she doesn’t.
I suppose we should be grateful Martina finally threw Blanca a few nice words but it’s not enough. Not nearly enough.
Jarifa, I hope you enjoyed your wine and pizza!
Diana
Jarifa, thank you for another excellent report from the couch. So glad you had pizza and a glass of wine to make the words flow.
Irma did not have a happy life, so I hope she rests in peace now.
I kind of got a kick out of the brothers serenade . I love seeing the brothers together. Imelda as always was the wet blanket. I wonder if she is pregnant again.
Maybe Rog will simmer down when Ulises starts dating one of the two women who seem interested in him. I am guessing it will be Auntie Pati.
As for Rogelio and Paula, I think she “should” be free to follow her music however she wants BUT not necessarily with Ulises when he brings out the worst in Rogelio. In an “ideal” world, it should be okay but we do not live in an ideal world, so why does Paula keep on pushing it as if Ulises is the only young talented male musician available? If Rogelio reacted the same with all young male musicians, that would be a problem. IMHO she is fighting the wrong fight.
Too bad Cecilia ever went back because, as you noted, she will never be able to do anything right and will be walking on egg shells forever.
As for Andrea, let us hope her good sense gets her out of her engagement.
Most of the people married waay too quickly when the hormones were running high.
There are plenty of issues to keep us going.
Thanks, Jarifa, you always come through for us! And hopefully life will be a little easier starting Monday!
Rogelio is hard to like. Not sure why he had to tell Aunt Patti not to talk against him or the family with Lucas. I don’t think she ever has. Except maybe when Lucas was unhappy and initiated the conversation.
I thought Martina was right in not splitting the money equally. Rogelio and Fernando are getting more than the other brothers and Ignacio does need to prove himself. He hasn’t been that nice to the family and actually has been out to ruin them all along.
I agree that Ignacio snaps at Cecilia if he doesn’t like what she says. He needs a “yes man” not a wife. She needs to leave the marriage. Now his mother has basically made a deathbed command that he ruin them. And that seems to be his plan, with Cecilia and Paula in the middle of it.
Imelda couldn’t be pleasant if her life depended on it.
Si it sounds like Martina is going to run against Beatrice and the ladies will vote again. But she never found out what Beatrice said when she took the presidency from her. Maybe she knows Beatrice too well.
Liz
Susan, I agree with your comments.
Waterlily, this has 107 episodes. In the original (127 episodes) Gabriela and Alejandro, our protas, were trapped in the mine in episode 2! To be fair though, in the OG Alejandro wasn't dating Irene ("Sara" here) from the start and the story had a different timeline, so it fit. I like your version of this scene better.
If we don't have another volunteer for this one, I can try to recap this full week too. (I might put up highlights and not full recaps some days.)
I agree with Ceci on the whole issue, but the way this was handled would have made nyone feel kind of cheated. They invite him to the house for a party and then proceed to show what they really think about him. Maybethe business is the placewhere you can learn everyone's true feelings. Rogelio now is like 'I now want to be pals with Ignacio' after he voted in favour of him getting less shares. I somehow now imagine a scene where he cleans the living-room as a child and is like 'mum, look how good I'm being.' And it doesn't matter that moments before he made his brother cry because now he is being a good boy.
Rogelio and his jealousy now bores me. His comments to Paula are just... How am I supposed to like the guy if he constantly does something to make himself as disagreeable as possible? He also got rather threatening with Patricia. Whenever he behaves the way he does here, I keep being reminded of Martina and her threats. I genuinely find it baffling this is supposed to be a likable good guy. I couldtake a flawed man, but his negative qualities don't outweigh the positive ones. Next to super Paula he really ends up looking like a mama's boy and an ass.
Why do the scraps Martina is willing to give make Blanca so happy? I know she is Blanca's mother-in-law, but it would be far better if people just stopped caring what Martina thinks about anything because she as a person leaves a lot to be desired. Who the hell threatens her son's girlfriend but can't stand up for her daughter-in-law? I suppose Martina is willing to do things when she herself wants to but Blanca's feelings don't matter all that much to her. Like I said, both she and Rogelio have this rather narcisistic streak where even if they are wrong, the focus is on how they feel and not what they have done. At least I find this very annoying and it will probably mean I'll never like these two.
If Andrea knows she can't handle Luis's family, why propose at all? She basically demands him to change the way things are by moving to Mexico. He wanted to move to LA and she got mad. But I don't see how it's different from her basically demanding they move to MX. He should havetalked to her about moving to LA but they are a terrible match if one of them has to give up everything and then resent the other person at some point, which I bet will happen as it feels like a sacrifice made through gritted teeth rather than a genuine decision. Besides, Andrea seems to want to move because she knows Luis is in love with Paula, but why doesn't this make her call-off the wedding instead of being mad and saying they need to move to the capital? Thankfully these two have enough issues to make it possible for them not to marry.
If they are going to go for another pregnancy with imelda and Fernando, what is the point of that? I just don't get why such an awful marriage needs a plot line where they stay togther for the kids. Imelda is a self-absorbed harpie and will never love anyone unconditionally. Why did she agree to give him the divorce now? If there's a focus on regret about 'let's get another baby' night, surely this doesn't mean anything good. But I have no idea what the point is of these two staying together. Fernando could pay child support and Imelda could hire ten nannies. I don't see what difference it would make for her life if she got divorced.
Episode 24: Notes; Part 1 of 2
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and participation.
Genoveva offer3ed Maria Teresa help with her romantic problems. No conclusion as Maria Teresa told her nothing.
Marco let Rutilio know he didn't want Adriana getting involved with anything to do with Grimaldi. He left the office without shaking hands.
Santos kicked cans until Cris talked to him. Both knew that his [possibly undeserved] rep for womanizing was the root of the problem.
Rutilio caught Clemente putting away the file on Jeronimo's death. He dismissed it as an accident and said to respect the grief of the family.
Valentina and Regina talked about searching the house for clues about Marco or whatever when Bernarda was not around.
Aldo called Victor one more time for the owed money and lost his temper near the end of the call.
Santos caught Maria Teresa and started talking first about ranch matters but when he tried to explain what she thought she saw she told him not to worry because it was completely clear to her that he was not a man who could settle for one woman. He tried to deny this but she said that while he was basically good he would not change. He was to forget about her. She walked away and he confided in Cris.
Aldo searched drawers in the bedroom and retrieved Maria Teresa's engagement ring.
Marco went to Camila and demanded a drink. He started undressing and then used her like a sex doll.
Maria Teresa and Bernarda talked about Esteban. Bernarda offered her help. Maria Teresa thanked her and talked about getting the ranch together.
Santos tried thinking of what to do to get Maria Teresa back. Cris finally said he would help him.
Maria Teresa saw Valentina and Regina in the corral. Valentina said that she was more motivated since Santos returned. Maria Teresa spoke cautiously then pensively to herself as she petted Capuccino and went on her way.
Boink-and-run Marco got dressed while talking about others betraying him. Camila could not get him to elaborate on that and he left without even kissing her goodbye.
Rutilio was worried about Clemente's curiosity about old cases. Trejo confirmed that he had not asked him to look into those. Rut then said to keep the kid busy so he doesn't do this again. Adriana arrived and Trejo left. She told Rut that she had a bad vibe about Grimaldi.
Santos and Cris set up a table under a tree and talked about next steps. Santos practiced what he wanted to say to Maria Teresa. Cris was finally somewhat okay with this.
Maria Teresa tried to pay Remedios back for bailing her out but Remedios told her to invest the money into the ranch and pay her back later, strongly implying that she and Santos will make a success of it.
Rut told Adriana he had only known Grimaldi a few months but had done some successful deals with him. Adriana warned him to be careful because you don't know whom you can trust. Just as they were about to kiss Norma walked in. Adriana pretended to cry about all the strange things that had been happening since Maria Teresa arrived. Between her fake tears and Rut's fake concern they snowed Norma. His facial expression when Norma left the dessert she carried in and walked out said everything about his lack of feelings for her.
Cris brought some tiki torch poles as Santos finished setting the table and went off to shower and dress.
A little later Marco followed Adriana out of the house and tried getting her to talk about Grimaldi. She didn't want to.
Episode 24: Notes; Part 2 of 2
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and participation.
Rut went home for dinner and Clemente was not yet home. Norma started asking about Adriana and Rut answered that his office was open to everyone in town. He made a comment about how happy she was in her ignorance of what he does [¡Oy, vey!] and she denied the perceived lack of interest. This went nowhere and she went into the kitchen, saying she was holding dinner for their son. Rut asked to at least bring him a little flan and said under his breath that making flan was all she was good for. [May the goddess Hera borrow a lightning bolt to smite him with.]
Santos dressed for dinner. Cris told him not to forget the flowers. However the knock on the door was the smirking Valentina who walked in as though she owned the place.
Aldo did the same at the main house, startling Genoveva. She got over the shock, saying it was probably a good thing he arrived and that Maria Teresa was in her room. Aldo said that they were going to marry and he was there to set the date.
Valentina virtually demanded to know where Santos was going all dressed up. He said he was going to talk to the boss and put off talking about this until the next day. Valentina walked out.
Also made his pitch and took out the engagement ring. Maria Teresa was not eager.
Santos went to the hacienda only to find out that Aldo had arrived with his suitcase to set the wedding date. He was incredulous.
Also put the ring on Maria Teresa's finger; she still looked doubtful. Genoveva called to her that Santos wanted to talk to her and she got up to go downstairs. Aldo called out that she would talk to Santos the next morning [Maria Teresa, don't you see what he's up to?]
Genoveva told Santos that Maria Teresa would talk to him in the morning and prevented him from going upstairs to interrupt the reconciliation. He left.
Valentina went home, disappointed. She realized that something likely happened between Santos and Maria Teresa because he had been “strange” since his return.
Santos went to the table site, and blew out the tiki flames. He sat at the table and poured himself a shot of tequila, saying that there would not be another woman like Maria Teresa. He downed the shot and began crying.
Finally caught up. Thanks, Weirdo.
I agree with most of the comments so far and I agree that Sara is a bitch. She has Roberta's support so far, but we'll see how far that goes. Roberta is the type who will dispose of anyone she has no use for.
Is she Leonardo's mother or possibly stepmother from a previous marriage? We don't have enough backstory yet. He appears to be a full brother to Mauricio, whom he belted over his creepy treatment of Emilia and we knew even before this episode who is in Roberta's favor.
BTW in the scene in the office where Mauricio asked Nico his age did anyone else notice his expression when the boy said "six"? Mauricio is now a rape suspect.
According to the Wikipedia page Joaquina's last name is Castro, like Roberta's, which makes her a Poor Relation and just as disposable to Roberta as anyone else.
Urban, yes, I noticed an odd look on Mau's face when Nico told him that he wss six . He looked like he was doing the math. In the blurry flashback that Emilia had of the rape,it sure looked like it was Mau.
Gracias, Jarifa.
So Irma's death is now the impetus for Ignacio to go full steam ahead in his revenge. I guess there will be no redemption for him as there is no older male villain smarter than he is... so far.
It would do Andrea and Luis good to leave the area and all the family drama. The problem with that -- and also if Rogelio, Paula, and Lucas moved -- is that Imelda will get what she wants by default if she is pregnant and has another baby. That would be the end of this family.
Urban, thank you for the fabulous recap.
Mis/non communication and bad timing all the way around for Maria Teresa and Santos.
Aldo has such gaul. I’m a bit surprised Maria Teresa just didn’t kick him to the curb. She cannot be seriously considering marrying him?
Clemente needs to be considerably more careful as to when he conducts his investigative work.
Grimaldi, in Ruti’s good graces is an imminent threat to Adriana. I don’t believe her poisonous words in others’ ears is going to help her. As there would be no reason for him to leave town (his ventures with Ruti seemingly successful so far), I suspect she will make him “disappear” …
Still not sure what Camila is trying to do; she’s degraded herself and gotten nothing she can use against Marco.
Diana
Thank you Jarifa, sensational as always!
I am at the Rogelio isn’t likable table. What struck me in his conversation about Paula’s job opportunity is that he said it was a bad idea because this is a bad time for HIM and HE is stressed. His response had nothing to do with Paula, did not in any way take into account HER thoughts, feelings, wants or wishes; it’s all about him. That’s problematic, I don’t know if Paula should be working with Ulises or not, but Rogelio should definitely be thinking about what his wife wants and needs!! That doesn’t mean he has to agree with her or just give in but he doesn’t seem to even consider her.
Urban, I've thought all along that Roberta is Leo's step mother. I didn't realize we don't yet have definitive confirmation on that, thank you.
Like you and Susan, I did notice the look on Mau's face. That said, I don't think he was the rapist although I can't hazard a guess as to who was.
Diana
Thanks Urban. That was great.
I don’t know why María Teresa is letting Aldo back in her life. It’s obvious she has no feelings for him. If she’d only gone out to Santos they’d be a couple now!
Cris is a good friend. I hope he can find someone for himself. But I don’t think we’re met her yet.
Norma is frustrating. She knows her husband fools around but still takes his word for what is going on. I guess because she seems to worship Adriana, her best friend!
I don’t like Valentina but she’s so persistent she just might get Santos. Although it seems she could be his daughter.

Thanks Urban! A disappointing episode but a wonderful recap!
Cris is a highlight in this for me, I like his humor. The scene of Santos practicing his speech to Maria Teresa was cute and funny!
Poor Santos, so eager, so rejected! Cris gave him the best advice earlier in the episode to just wait for Maria Teresa to calm down and then talk to her but of course it’s so hard to wait when your feelings are panicking! If only I had a dollar for every painful conversation I have had that would have worked out better if I had waited and let emotions breathe before trying to talk about it!
I really like the since of family and community at the ranch. It is nice to watch a show where most of the characters treat each other with respect and kindness instead of having the nonstop animosity and backbiting between everyone all the time that some shows have. Here you have the villains of course, but everyone else behaves normally. Like how Bernarda is respectful and cooperative with Santos even though she doesn’t like Valentina running after him, and Valentina is respectful of Maria Teresa even though she’s jealous of her and suspicious that Santos is interested in her.
I am seriously concerned that Maria Teresa will marry Aldo out of spite, desperation, or whatever. She doesn't need to marry him for any reason. That could also send Santos to Valentina on the rebound which would cause a tidalwave of disrespect from everyone on the ranch and he'd regret it even without that. In case you missed it a few weeks ago I posted that there is a 21-year age difference between the actors.
Thank you Urban for the wonderful recaps. You always fill in the blanks in my understanding. I also like your editorial comments, they are very insightful.
I am confused about the relationship between Camila and Marcos. She seems to be always waiting around for him. Yet, when he left her the last time after kissing her, she wiped the kiss off her lips. There are obviously nuances to the relationship that went over my head. If anyone can enlighten me, I would be grateful.
Adrianna is such an interesting character. It seems like she may have been a prostitute and that's how she knows Grimaldi. Since she also killed Marco's father, she is very capable of murder. I can't wait to see what happens btw Grimaldi and her.
Irascema is annoying. She has no personality and just seems to hide behind Adrianna.
I like Clemente, I am rooting for his budding relationship with Bernarda's daughter (I forgot her name) to develop. I also hope he gets to the bottom of how Marco's father died and who is responsible.

Thank you Urban for the great recaps and insightful commentaries.Your recaps always help me understand this TN better.
I am somewhat confused about the relationship between Marco and Camila. To me, she seems to be always hopeful he will pay her some attention. When he left her, he kissed her and she wiped the kiss off her lips. Can anyone elaborate on what is actually going on between the two of them?
Adrianna is a very interesting character. She was throwing herself at Rutilio while trying to avoid Grimaldi. It seems to me that he may have known her when she was a prostitute. She has a sordid past since she also killed Marco's father. I am anxious to see what becomes of the entanglement btw Adrianna, Grimaldi and Rutilio.
I really like Clemente. I hope his relationship with Regina blossoms. I also hope he gets to the bottom of what happened to Marco's father and who was responsible for his death.

The relationship btw Marco and Camila is confusing to me. Can anyone explain what is really going on with them. I noticed that She wiped his kiss off her lips, yet she always seems to wanting his attention.
Lester
Camila wants revenge on Marco for how he treated her and caused her miscarriage. She is trying to be her own undercover detective. She is hoping that she can learn details of his shady dealings by playing nice and pretending she's happy being his FWB. Then once she's got the dirt on him she can bring him down!
This is not going to work at all because Marco doesn't care about Camila at all as anything other than a plaything and he's not the type to confide in a woman even if he did care about her.
Urban and others, I think it's Mau too.
As for Leo, his full name is "Leonardo Santamaría Castro", so Roberta is his mother, even though it was never technically said.
One interesting thing is that Leo calls Roberta "mom" in this one. In the OG, Alejandro (the OG galán) almost always called his mother "Antonia" or "Guerra", even though they were related by blood.
Weirdo, thanks for clarifying Roberta IS Leo's mother.
Her treatment is even more heinous knowing he is her flesh and blood.
Diana
Thanks for all your very interesting comments. It has been a very busy weekend. I hope you are all having a great Labor Day!
Diana, yes, Leo being Roberta's biological kid just makes her behavior way worse.
I will recap this week as well. But there's always room for help - if anyone is as crazy as I am to want to recap this, you're very welcome, starting from next week.
Darcy, thank you for helping me to understand what's going on btw Marco and Camila. I appreciate that very much.
