#82. Thanks so much, dondi! Simply terrific asides!

I feel so sorry for Defne. She is a really sweet little girl. She'd become very close with her grandfather. The relationship was very good for the both of them.

Why did they even bother with Parla's big announcement to her family? There was 0% chance she'd actually confess. If she were serious, she'd have gone to the police station without saying anything to the family.

Osman doesn't deserve Aylin. He's tried very hard to be in Parla's life and to be a good SIL to Gul. She just rags on him like he's the worst.

OK, Ceylin. You had your big scene with the family and swore everyone to secrecy (agree that can't possibly last with these dummies). She needs to stop acting weird and guilty and thus giving Ilgaz a reason to think she's hiding something.

Laughed and laughed about the "stick" residing in Ilgaz and "stick-ectomy". You nailed that one, dondi!

I think there's something fishy about Ahmet, Arda's brother. He looks a bit like Rat-fet did when they first introduced him. I am also quite curious about those doctor's visits by Sevin. I'm getting the sense that she took off to torture Arda.

Yekta seems to be over sucking up to Lacin to keep his place in her house. He's as overbearing and nasty as ever. He did hit the nail on the head about her replacing Engin, though.

I am confused about whose place Aylin is selling. Is it that place where Yekta set it up so Osman would look like Inci's killer? Or is she somehow the owner of Gul's house and is selling that? She really is a nitwit. Getting a passport costs the price of a house?

Parla in "high lactation mode". Yep!

I was sort of on Cinar's side when "he went on and on" after his elder brother did the same. He does need to do something on his own.

Pars was brilliant. I want to marry him!

Secrets #82

Great recap, thank you, dondi356. Funny sidenotes. They do tend to "go on and on" and as a recapper you are sensitive to that.

Nice to have a romantic break with Pars and Derya and Ilcey. Thanks for the song link. It's an appropriate title: "Let's Go From Here." Kapadokya is 9 hours driving from Istanbul. Looks impressive.

Aylin and Osman are thinking of selling their house for cheap and going abroad or is it sending Parla? They should keep thinking.

secrets #82

Thanks for taking time out of your busy days and nights to comment.

ITA, novelera, "Why did they even bother with Parla's big announcement to her family?" I've had enough of these people. I do have some sympathy for Osman, he's trying to do the right thing after his massive screw up.

"Nitwit" Aylin is selling the home she had with Osman. We didn't see it very often because they were mostly at Gul's. Apparently, she got it in the divorce. She was renting it. Osman and Gul have no idea she's selling it to fork over money to the fraudster, Selcuk.

"They do tend to "go on and on" and as a recapper you are sensitive to that." - Yes, Lucio, thanks for that acknowledgment. I try my best.

It is nice to have a romantic break, before the ish hits the fan. I know people who have been to Kapadokya and they say it's an amazing place.

I think A & O are trying to send Parla abroad. "They should keep thinking." If only these people had one functioning brain cell among them, they could.

Recap #83 coming now.

secrets #83 part 1

Ilgaz talks about Merdan. I erased him from my life. He hid who he was. He didn’t tell me he was my grandfather. Something inside me was deeply shaken. Nothing hurt so much since my mother’s death. I’m still hurting. Otherwise I couldn’t love him and hate him at the same time. And I wouldn’t worry so much about him.

Ceylin asks, you haven’t forgiven him? You live in the same house, call him Grandpa. I can’t, Ilgaz replies, I’ve hated being kept in the dark since I was a child. My parents did it too, especially my father. I’d get so angry. They thought I wouldn’t understand, that’s why they lied. He also kept my mother’s illness a secret. I felt like I was ignored, not worthy.

This really messed with Ilgaz’s mind. He doesn’t want to talk about it anymore and says, let’s go to bed. We have plans for tomorrow.

Ilgaz wakes Ceylin in the morning. Breakfast is ready. Today will be the best day of your life, you’ll see.

Derya and Pars arrive at the courthouse. They hold hands as they approach the entrance. The reporters flock to them. Pars says it’s a happy day. The reporter asks, if the rumors are true, are you being transferred? Pars says no, we are here to work. Another reporter comments on the hand holding. Pars replies, there’s nothing wrong with holding my fiancée’s hand. Nothing to see here, let’s go to work.

Metin packs some things for Merdan. Defne enters the room. She wrote a letter to her grandpa. She says he can read it and write back to me, too. She says she’s old enough to understand what’s going on. Grandpa’s going to prison. Metin is sorry, he didn’t know how to tell her. He didn’t want her to be upset. She’s still a baby to him. But he knows she’s old enough to understand.

Defne asks, won’t you miss him, even though you’re mad? Metin admits he will miss Merdan. He’s my father, just like I’m yours. Defne asks about Cinar. Will he come home? He will. Give him time.

Cinar goes to the pool hall. Merdan’s men are there waiting for him. The tea is on your table, Patron, one man says and points. My table? Merdan Dede’s orders, he replies, “the table, the office, all the property belongs to my grandson now”, that’s what he said. Your orders are Merdan’s orders.

Ceylin thinks Kapadokya is magical. Ilgaz tells her they will watch the hot air balloons. Then they will visit the horses and then, he’s prepared a surprise.

Ilgaz talks about the horses. After the horses complete their work, they are sent back into nature. Ceylin thinks that’s awful. They are sent off when they are old and useless. A lot like people, Ilgaz comments. Do you imagine what you would be like when you are older, Ceylin asks. No, he doesn’t.

She imagines she will be a grumpy, spiteful elderly woman. [not much different than she is now.] I’ll watch out my window and mock people. Go to the park and complain about everything. Ilgaz promises to be there with her. Will you, she asks. Do you doubt, he replies. [Sema keeps setting us up for Ilgaz’s death.]

Eren shows up at Yekta’s firm without an appointment. Aysun tries to keep him out of Yekta’s office. Eren ignores her and closes himself inside. He looks around for clues, anything that could be helpful. He finds bloody gauze in the trash can. Yekta arrives and is shocked to find Eren in his office.

What are you doing here, Yekta asks. You always visit us, Eren replies, so I decided to visit you. How did you get in, Yekta asks. Shame on you, Eren says, is this how we welcome you when you visit the station? Why haven’t you offered me tea or coffee?

secrets #83 part 2

Yekta sits at his desk and asks, what do you want? Eren wants information. Where were you on the night Serdar was found? Why do you ask, Yekta replies, why should I answer? Is this an interrogation? Eren says no, he’s just curious. If you want to offer a statement, you could accompany me to the station. Eren leaves. Yekta looks around to see if Eren did anything.

Ilcey try their hand at pottery making.

Aylin wonders why Osman is still at the house. He’s recovered. Gul tells her to stop it. Parla needs her father right now. Parla is snuggled with her dad on the couch.

Aylin gets a call from the RE agent. The buyer is there with a bag full of cash. Aylin makes the excuse that Ceylin wants her to go to the office to get documents. Gul knows Ceylin is in Kapadokya, why does she need documents? Aylin says she doesn’t know, but she’s going. Osman offers to take her. She declines and tells him to stay with Parla.

Ilcey do more sightseeing. They are in some of the rock-cut architecture. [Google if you are interested. It is amazing stuff.] He wants her to go down into a tunnel. She’s leery. He calls her out on her fear. She denies it and exits. He asks her, what is your greatest fear? She doesn’t like the question either. He asks again and she answers, to be blamed for something I didn’t do. He asks, have you ever taken something that doesn’t belong to you? Like a thief, she asks him and answers—no.

Are you upset, ilgaz asks. Yes, she replies, I don’t like this game! Ilgaz says that’s not even the worst question—what is your biggest secret? Something you’ve never told anyone. If looks could kill… Ilgaz says forget I asked. It’s your life, I won’t meddle.

Ilgaz takes photos and Ceylin gets a call from Metin. He has the footage she requested. Was Arda at the beach? Yes, Metin replies, he’s telling the truth. I turned it in. Ceylin shares this news with Ilgaz. He’s not too interested. She complains about Derya and says Metin found the proof she needed to clear Arda. Fellow DA Ilgaz defends Derya. Ceylin wishes he would side with her for once, just because she’s his wife.

Eren reports to Derya. Sevin’s doctor lives alone, but she bought 3 pizzas yesterday. Maybe she had guests, Derya says. Umut said he didn’t see anyone come or go. Umut calls Eren. The doc left her home to go to her office, but he spotted a child inside by the window. Derya wants a search warrant.

Aylin is at the RE. She would like an advance on the payment. The buyer has half the money, in cash.

Aylin calls Selcuk. Assuming this is where he really lives—it’s shabby, and he’s unkempt. She’s got the money, but can’t find an exchange. He says he will take care of it. We can meet now, he tells her, don’t carry all that money around with you.

Ilcey take a video for social media. She’s getting tired. He can’t get a signal on his phone. A passerby says there’s no signal where they are. Ilgaz needs to check his email. Why, she asks, I thought we weren’t going to worry about the real world? He says it’s related to his surprise. He goes in search of a signal. Ceylin stays behind to rest.

A mother and daughter are taken from the doctor’s house and put into a police car. [is this Sevin and Nil? She faked their deaths?] Derya says, she vanished because her husband hit her and she didn’t want that life for her daughter. She pretended to be dead. Eren wonders, was she afraid of dying, or living that life? [So Arda isn’t a murderer but a cheating, abusive husband?]

secrets #83 part 3

Derya is glad they are not dead, but it’s an awful case. Eren’s got harsh words for men who beat their wives and children. He says that Sevin it planned well. Using her medical background, she collected enough blood to make us think she was dead. Derya says she will file a motion to have Arda released. She wants the mother and daughter sent to a shelter.

Eren notices the engagement ring on Derya’s hand and congratulates her. She asks him if he was involved in the proposal. Oh, no, I had nothing to do with it, he replies. AG Pars did all the work. I swear. If you say so, she answers with a smile.

Goksu calls Eren. The blood at the dump and the sample that you brought are a match— “Yekta!” He asks Goksu to keep the results between them. Eren calls Ceylin with the news. Yekta is involved. He saw Merdan leaving the body. Ceylin thinks Yekta might also be a witness to the death. She has questions, how did he know about the dump? Did he follow Merdan? Eren thinks someone tipped him off. We can locate his phone.

Ilgaz is still trying to get a signal. An important message pops up. “Merdan Kaya didn’t kill Serdar. It was Parla Yilmaz.” Ilgaz is stunned. Ceylin and Ilgaz wave at each other and each are holding onto bombshell info.

Ceylin calls Cinar to tell him Yekta and Ozgur are working together. They were at the dump where Serdar was found. It’s likely his body was found because of them. She asks, do you remember seeing Ozgur at the terrace that day? No. Cinar asks, what do we do? Ceylin says they need to investigate. What if they saw something or recorded something? Cinar will look into it. Ceylin warns him to stay out of trouble.

A blonde woman is giving marriage/relationship advice to Pars and Derya. She thinks she can because she’s been a Family Court judge for 40 years and she’s also been married for 40 years.

Pars needs to step away to take a call from Ilgaz. I sent you an email, he tells the AG, ask Eren to find out where it came from. Don’t tell anyone yet. Not even Ceylin.

The judge leaves and Ridvan and Ozge enter Pars’ office to offer their congratulations. Derya says we wish the same for another couple we know. Ozge answers with an enthusiastic, Amen! Ridvan asks, when’s the wedding? Soon, Pars replies, do you have a suit? Get one or I’ll have to buy one for you.

Pars looks at the email Ilgaz sent. He’s shocked. Derya asks what’s wrong and he fibs—the email wouldn’t open. He’ll look at it on his computer. Derya leaves and Pars immediately calls Eren to come.

Selcuk [if this is really his name] has cleaned himself up and meets with Aylin. He tells her she’ll have what she wants in a couple of days. He feeds her a bs story on how he put himself in danger to get this done for her. She hands him the money and starts to walk away. He calls after her, you’re going to get the rest of the money, right? When are you going to sell the house? Aylin says she’ll pay up when she gets the rest of the money.

Parla leaves the house to go out with the girls. Gul is worried she will do something stupid. Parla is going crazy in the house, she needs to get out. She demands her phone. Gul tells the girls that Parla needs to be back in 1 hour.

Ceylin ties a cloth strip on a dilek ağacı (wishing tree). She won’t tell Ilgaz her wish. He decides to tie a strip, too. And then he ties a second one. She’s curious. You have to tell me what you wished for. He’s not telling. But he’s going to tell her why they tie a piece of cloth.

secrets #83 part 4

He says the cloth represents a victim, it symbolizes and important part of them. Old civilizations gave an important part of themselves to the spirits they believed would protect them and make wishes come true. The point is to ask with an open heart.

Ceylin still wants to know his wish. Ilgaz replies, sometimes it’s better to remain in the dark. He’s willing to tell her about his second wish. I wished to have many children in our life. Ceylin would like that too.

Ozge gives Ridvan an attitude. You should follow AG Pars’ example, she says, and learn the error of your ways. Eren comes and asks Ridvan if Pars is available. Ridvan goes with Eren and asks him, do you think it’s time Ozge and I got married? What kind of question is that, Eren replies. Ridvan says it hasn’t even been a year. Eren asks, how many years do you need? Ridvan doesn’t understand. Eren clarifies, how many years do you need to decide to get married? Ridvan looks puzzled.

Pars shows Eren the email from Ilgaz.

Ilgaz plays futbol with some boys. Ceylin watches.

Haluk is waiting and sitting in Yekta’s chair when he returns to his office. Haluk is not pleased. He accuses Yekta of using him. You’re great at talking, he tells Yekta, the best I’ve seen, but when it comes to action, you’re inept. I don’t like being used or lied to. What makes you think that, Yekta asks.

Haluk says it’s because Ilcey are happily vacationing in Kapadokya. Or maybe because you outed Pars’ relationship to embarrass him and now he’s engaged. I told you someone is writing about my grandson. The reporter was given permission to interview his murderer. Need I go on? You’re not keeping up your end of the bargain.

You got it wrong, Yekta says, if you think I tried to dishonor an AG with gossip, that makes me sad. You don’t believe in my abilities. Ilgaz and Ceylin are living their last happy days. Think of it as a gift before death. A final smile before the end. I just got back from a meeting with the reporter. We have a deal so he won’t publish the articles. You’re going to grant him an interview where you will ask him about the articles. You’ll talk to him, beg him a bit, then you’ll give him money and he will write what you want. He promised. Haluk is pleased and relinquishes Yekta’s chair.

Eren finds out a VPN was used to send the email. Pars is thinking about Parla. She’s a sweet innocent girl. Is this possible? Could she have killed Serdar? Eren doesn’t know. We’ve seen so much over the years. Why Parla? Eren says he cares about Merdan, but he’d rather have him as the killer.

Pars asks, who could know who killed Serdar? [“Yekta!”] We’re not in the initial stages of the investigation. They could have told us sooner. Why send an email? Why Parla? It could be a prank or a lie. Let’s find out who sent that email.

Metin has come to visit Merdan. Merdan reads Defne’s letter and Metin tells him to write back to her. Merdan asks about Cinar. I haven’t heard from him since he left with you, Metin replies. Merdan says he’s probably at the pool hall. I wanted him to look after the place. That’s great, Metin complains, I ask him not to follow your lead and you take him down the same path.

Merdan asks, are you mad because I left? Be careful, don’t be a father that’s around but not present. Providing food and shelter isn’t enough. Give Cinar a place in your heart, so he knows you love him. Support him and tell him you believe in him. Metin gets up from the table. Merdan stands and places his hand over Metin’s heart. Tell him that we all stumble, that it doesn’t matter. Metin leaves.

secrets #83 part 5

Pars is pissed when he finds out that Eren collected a blood sample from the trash can in Yekta’s office. Are you insane? Collecting evidence illegally? Eren knows Pars is right but the blood is a match for Yekta. That devil was at the dump. Ceylin is right, we have to investigate. Pars grumbles, if he finds out, you’re doomed. Eren says it seems he got the kids to report finding Serdar and he sent that email.

Okay, Pars snarks, let’s ask him. We’ll say we have a feeling we want to confirm. He’ll admit to it of course. That evidence was obtained illegally! Approach him again like that, and he’ll figure out what you’re up to. Eren gets it and says they can review camera footage. If Yekta went to the dump, we’ll find him. We’ll say we spotted him, and we can question him. Pars is okay with that but warns him not to do this again and to stop talking to Ceylin. And Pars wants to keep this from Ilgaz for the time being.

The girls are at the pool hall. Parla is upset that Cinar is ignoring them. Tugce reminds her he’s working. Merve calls him over and he signals for her to wait. Parla grabs her things and leaves in frustration. Merve follows her out. Cinar walks over and Tugce tells him, well done! Great job, idiot! She’s losing it. She needs us, she needs you. What should I do, Cinar asks, whenever I look at Parla, I think of my grandfather and I feel like I’m betraying him. Try to understand me too. Tugce leaves.

The girls try to calm Parla. Forget about it, Tugce says, he regrets what he did and apologized after you left. Parla pushes Tugce away, nothing will ever be the same! I get it! She takes off.

More vacation in Kapadokya. Ilcey shop, they ride horses. She had no idea he liked horses. Ilgaz suggests they do something like this once a month. Get in the car and drive somewhere. Ceylin says next time it’s Mardin. Ceylin goes to get her coat and Ilgaz pulls out his phone. He calls Pars for an update. No luck with the IP addy, Pars tells him. We are at the prison to question Merdan.

Interesting. A cellmate brings Merdan tea. He complains about being there for domestic violence. No one cares why I get upset, he says. Merdan puts him in his place—a man doesn’t beat a wife or child. You are responsible for your actions. I won’t drink your tea or talk to you again. He tells the man to get out of his sight.

Merdan is surprised to see Eren and Pars. Pars tells him they received a tip that he didn’t kill Serdar. Great, Merdan replies, then let me go! Pars continues, the tipster said someone else was responsible. Merdan asks, who is willing to go to prison in my place? Parla. Merdan is stunned.

Pars flat out asks, are you taking the fall for Parla? Merdan doesn’t know what to say. We’re talking about a child. Why would someone say that? Who told you? We don’t know yet, Pars replies. Find out and put that person in prison, Merdan says, resolve this. Eren asks if Parla is involved in this at all. If she is and you want to change your story, this is the time to do it.

Merdan says no one wants to spend their last days in prison. She’s not my blood. I left my granddaughter and turned myself in. Why would I sacrifice myself for that girl? I killed Serdar. He gets indignant. Quit wasting your time! That’s all I have to say! He gets up and leaves.

Pars is not convinced. He wants Merdan isolated, so he doesn’t speak with anyone.
Eren and Pars receive calls at the same time. Ceylin calls Eren and Ilgaz calls Pars. Pars tells Eren not to answer. Pars tells Ilgaz they got nothing from Merdan. Ilgaz asks him to review the statements, especially Parla’s.

secrets #83 part 6

Aylin panics because Gul let Parla out and she hasn’t returned. She tries calling her daughter but she doesn't answer. Parla comes storming into the house, straight into her room, closing the door in Aylin’s face. Gul says to give Parla some space.

Ayten comes out to speak with Metin. Was Merdan Bey arrested? Yes. I suppose you spoke with him, she says. Yes. She asks, what’s going to happen to Gorkem? Did Merdan say anything about us? Metin says, he’s your responsibility now. I’m not going to take on a problem I didn’t cause. Merdan Bey is in prison. Go ask him what to do.

Yekta is looking for Ozgur. No one has seen him. He’s not answering Yekta’s calls. That’s because Ozgur has been brought to the pool hall. Ozgur is surprised. Cinar? Are you pretending to be a mafioso now? Kidnapping people?

Cinar says, you gave me that gun on purpose, fine. You sent me there on purpose, that’s fine too. Now let’s talk about what I don’t know. Things I didn’t do and see. You witnessed Serdar’s death, you followed his body to the dump and paid the kids so they would call the cops.

Ozgur says, bravo, you got it. What else do you know, Cinar asks. Ozgur hands over his phone and says, one click, and the whole world will know. It’s a recording of what went on at the terrace that day.

Flashback. We see Ozgur recording every detail, including Merdan taking Serdar’s body and depositing it at the dump. Ozgur sends the location to Yekta and says you need to see this. Yekta comes to the dump. The men begin to search for Serdar. Yekta cuts his hand and blood spatters. They find Serdar and spot the kids. Ozgur calls the kids over and makes the offer. End flash.

Ilcey are about to leave for dinner. She gets a call from Cinar but can’t answer. Ilcey arrive at a romantic restaurant. Cinar calls Ceylin again, she can’t take the call at the table. She says she needs to use the bathroom. He tells her to wait and give her order first.

Pars and Eren start to review statement recordings.

Yekta comes down for dinner. He’s hungry and in a good mood until Omer appears. Lacin invited him. [Omer’s creep factor increases each time we see him. Is Lacin oblivious?] Yekta has lost his appetite and excuses himself. The doorbell rings, Yekta answers. It’s Ozgur.

Where have you been, Yekta asks, why haven’t you answered my calls? Ozgur says Cinar took him to the pool hall. He has my phone. Yekta laughs. I did what you asked, Ozgur says, they know I witnessed and recorded the murder.

Oh, they know everything, Yekta says, I wonder what they’re doing now. This must be painful for them. Can you imagine the panic they feel? It’s probably unbearable. Poor things. “Yekta goes on and on.” He smiles at the thought of how Ceylin must feel. She must be scared.

Ozgur wants a phone. How can you be so unfeeling, Yekta asks. Be happy and enjoy the moment! Be proud, look at what you’ve done! And you talk about a phone. I’ll get you a phone… ciao, ciao, ciao… go… go… go! He closes the door on Ozgur.

Ceylin finally gets away and returns the call to Cinar. He has a recording, Cinar says. He recorded what happened! We’re in trouble! She asks, they know Parla did it? Yes, yes! They know everything! Is Yekta behind this? I’m going to kill him, Cinar shouts, I’ll make him pay for everything! Ceylin wonders what Yekta’s plan is. She tells Cinar to calm down.

secrets #83 part 7

Yekta sends a message to Ceylin. Miss me? I’ll be in my new office all day tomorrow. Stop by whenever. Ceylin tells Cinar not to do anything. She’s going to handle it.

Parla is called for dinner. Uh oh, she’s not in her room. She left a note. She’s going to confess. We see Parla on the bus. Osman hurries to his car. Aylin rushes out of the house, wait Osman, I’m coming. She runs into the street and is hit by a car. Call an ambulance!

Ceylin is not enjoying dinner. She’s gulping down her wine. She asks Ilgaz to take her home.

Parla gets off the bus at the police station. She calls Cinar. He answers and apologizes for his behavior earlier. You’re right, Parla tells him, I understand, this isn’t right. I should be in prison, not your grandfather. Cinar tells her, don’t do this. She replies, as long as we hide the truth, I’ll lose everything. I can’t stand it. Take care, Cinar. Be happy… one of us should be.

Cinar panics. Tell me where you are. Send me your location. Let’s talk. Goodbye, Cinar…. She hangs up. You’re all I have, Cinar says, can’t you see… you’re all I have left. Please don’t do this to me.

Weepy Parla readies herself to head into the station.

And we are out.

Secrets

Gracias, Dondi.

"Ilgaz promises to be there with her. Will you, she asks. Do you doubt, he replies. [Sema keeps setting us up for Ilgaz’s death.]"

Ugh, I hate this. Honestly I don't see how these two can be happy (and trusting) together after all of this, but yikes I hope the projection of Ilgaz's death turns out to be some faked plan.

“the table, the office, all the property belongs to my grandson now”

How grand of Merdan to give these orders for the treatment of his precious grandson. Cinar is so unworthy now. Will he rise up to make Merdan proud?

Yay, Parla rises up to do the right thing. This is such a mess and I do understand Aylin, Osman, and Gul wanting her to flee, but I think emotionally she'll be better off in the long run fessing up. It was self-defense, trauma, etc. Ceylin could make a case for house detention, reform school, probation, etc.

Enjoyed the sites in Kapadokya. Nice to mix in sightseeing amongst all the anguish.

Still trying to figure out why Selcuk targeted Aylin. Whatever reason, his scam is sure working out for him. I guess Osman and Gul don't know that half of Parla's escape $$$ is supposedly coming from Selcuk.

secrets

Thanks for the fine recap of such a frustrating episode, dondi. Will that be the end of the flashbacks? I can't believe there are any more.

It looks to me like Merdan kept quiet about being Ilgaz's grandfather because Metin had banished him from the family. Is Ilgaz's "stick" hereditary?

Watching Ilcey's attempts at pottery, I wondered if the writer saw Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.

I did google Cappadocia, and those rock formations and the carvings are truly amazing.

Their wishes at the wishing tree were revealing. He honors her wish to keep hers quiet (doubtless Ilgaz never finding out about Parla) but she keeps wheedling for his. I also think often about their respective professions: defense attorney and district attorney (prosecutor). Are they oil and water?

What was the point of the whole Arda/Sevin story? That's some great friend, having her come to her medical offices four times presumably for blood draws.

I could do without the Aylin/Selcuk plot. It's so obvious he's never putting up any money for Parla's supposed black-market passport. Only Dummy Aylin would turn to him after what she already knew.

Wow! Is Yekta telling the truth about that seemingly straight arrow reporter accepting money from Haluk to suppress his story?

Kaan looks great on a horse. Is there a medieval Turkish tale in his future, probably wearing a wig with long hair?

Why, oh why does Ozgur continue to work for Yekta? Something was said about his needing money to recover the family business, but he's now completely morally corrupt.

Thanks, dondi. You are a real trouper!

secrets #84 part 1

Quote for Turkish ep #48: "You think you escaped and you collide with yourself." - James Joyce

Ceylin is troubled. She has a bad feeling and wants to go home. Ilgaz is speechless.
Eren and Pars look at Parla’s recording and note how upset she was. Eren says she could also have been very scared. Look at her hands and how she looks at Ceylin, Pars says. How she holds the cup and covers her face with her hands. Eren says someone is lying. They rewind the part where Parla is asked if Serdar was bleeding.

Pars wants everyone back for another statement. If it’s a lie, Gul, Osman, and Aylin will want to know why we suspect her. Having loved ones involved makes everything difficult, Eren says. Pars suggests Eren speak to Tugce. He’s tried and says, we can’t isolate Tugce like Merdan. Ilgaz said we shouldn’t tell anyone. Pars says he hates it when Eren is right. He wants to know where Ilcey is and why left now.

Umut enters the room. We looked at the camera footage near the dump. I think we found who you were looking for. “Yekta! lol, Eren tells Umut to check on Rat-fet to make sure he’s still sleeping. Pars tells Eren to bring Yekta in tomorrow so he can tell them why he was at the dump. He adds, when you do things right, you get what you want. Then he warns Eren, don’t give me that look—I’m still mad at you.

Pars and Eren leave the station and talk out front. Parla watches them. The men talk about Yekta. Pars says, we destroyed his reputation and there’s no stopping him now. Remember what Ceylin said. Eren replies, did we slander him? He still got out of prison. We couldn’t even prove his degree is fake. The building burned down. If we tell the truth about him, he will rot in prison.

Parla takes a few steps forward and she’s grabbed from behind. It’s Cinar. He drags her away from the station. Let me go, she cries out, let me tell them everything! Will you listen, Cinar says. I thought you’d always be there for me. I called you that day. We cried until dawn. So now you’re walking away? Was it a lie?

You avoid me, Parla says, you look away to avoid giving me accusatory glances. And, no, I wasn’t lying. I meant it. Let me go, Cinar. If I don’t do this, you’ll always look at me like this. [waah!] He pulls her into a hug. He gives her a kiss on the cheek.

I ruined things, Cinar tells her, I ruined everything. That’s what I do. I panicked, it’s a difficult situation. If you go to prison, we will break the promise we made to my grandfather. He wanted you to be free and he told me not to make you cry. Parla, I love you very much, don’t do this. Stay with me. Hug.

Gul and Osman wait at the hospital. Parla is not answering her phone. Osman wants to go find her. He wants Gul to contact Ceylin. She says don’t get Ceylin involved. Osman goes. A doctor tells Gul that Aylin will be alright.

Ilcey are ready to return. Ceylin is struggling. She feels her troubles follow her wherever she goes. Ilgaz asks if it is because of Merdan. She says yes.

Yekta has set up a meeting with the reporter and Haluk. The meeting is to take place at the reporter’s house. Haluk isn’t pleased with that. According to Yekta, the reporter has promised to publish a neutral sounding article about Burak.

Eren bursts into Yekta’s office. Remember I told you to tell me where you were that night or I’d have to bring you to the station? Come with me to the station, AG Pars is expecting you. Eren tells him they did some research and found Yekta Tilmen near the dump that night. We want to ask you about that at the station.

secrets #84 part 2

Cinar sneaks over to his father’s house and leaves money in an envelope at Ayten’s door. Defne comes out of the house and there’s a sibling reunion. She asks, why don’t you come home? He tries to explain, sometimes people don’t get along even if they are related. It’s hard for them to stay together. It doesn't mean they don’t love each other. I love you very much. Do you love dad, she asks. He says yes, of course. So you will come home, she asks. He avoids answering and he says he’ll take her to school.

Ceylin tells Ilgaz she’s going to her office today. But she’s really heading for a showdown with Yekta. He insists on taking her to the office.

Yekta is at Pars’ office. He complains about being treated as a suspect. Pars says he’s confused and would like to go over a few things with Yekta. We noticed you stopped by the dump, and we want to know why. Yekta says he was in his office at 4p when the murder took place. I left the office around 7:40 and I was in a bad mood. I started driving and didn’t notice I was driving by the dump.

Eren says, if that’s the case, will you allow us to collect your DNA sample? We suspect someone else was at the dump. We want to rule out all possibilities. If you’re not a match to the DNA we found there, we will beg your forgiveness. Yekta refuses the test. Just because I was driving by the dump, doesn’t mean I was at the dump, he states.

Yekta slips in a quiet congratulations to Pars on his engagement to Derya. Pars takes a sip of coffee and tells Ridvan to have Yekta sign his statement.

Ilgaz drops Ceylin off at her office. He makes a call to Pars and asks for an update. Pars says it’s a slow process. He can’t say more because Yekta is still there.

As soon as Ilgaz drives away, Ceylin leaves her building and grabs a taxi.

Parla is back with her family, and they are all in Aylin’ s hospital room. More for Parla to feel guilty about, she says this happened because of her. Osman is thankful that Cinar showed up in the nick of time, otherwise they’d be lost.

The reporter, Berkhan, is waiting for Ilgaz. He wants him to read the interview. Ilgaz asks to do it later, but the reporter tells him it needs to be published tomorrow. There’s not much time. Ilgaz gives him 5 minutes. Ilgaz reads and approves.

Berkhan says that Haluk found out about the interview, and he’s upset. But all we can do is write the truth. Ilgaz asks, is he pressuring you? Yes, I was asked not to publish, Berkhan replies, and that’s impossible. I told his attorney that I was willing to interview him. I’d like to hear Haluk’s POV. Ilgaz asks if the attorney did anything troubling. Berkhan says he was rude. He’s meeting with Haluk this afternoon and that’s why he’s in a hurry to publish.

Berkhan leaves. Ilgaz leaves his office, too (note that Ilgaz left his phone on his desk) and watches the reporter walk away. Berkhan stops in the hallway. It looks like Ilgaz suspects something might be up.

Arda comes to Derya’ office to ask about his wife and daughter. She says she hasn’t found them and asks if Arda has heard from them. He hasn’t and he thinks that’s why he’s been released. Derya tells him he was released because they found out where he was that night. But what about my wife and daughter, he asks, who will find them? Is the case closed?

Derya says Missing Persons is still looking. Go to the station and ask. He turns to go and Derya asks, have you ever hit your wife? Never, he replies.

Ceylin arrives at Tilmen Law and is welcomed by Yekta. Ceylin, my dear colleague and old friend. What would you like to drink? Something strong? I know you know, Ceylin says.

secrets #84 part 3

Yekta tells her, I’ve been waiting for this day since the day of my arrest. Remember the look on your face when the police dragged me out? That image gave me hope when I felt hopeless, and I’ve waited for this moment. While I spent cold nights in the basement of a hardware store, I dreamt of this day and how I’d be on top and you at the bottom.

Ceylin wants him to get to the point [me too]. He brags about his planning, his experience, and years of work. He kept the Burak case in his pocket. She doesn’t understand. Yes, he says, you learned about that because of me. Burak helped me very much. I made the anonymous call. He’d killed 5 people the day before.

Yekta continues, but I wasn’t involved in Neva’s death. I said, “Yekta, life is on your side, make the most of this opportunity.” I knew you’d get to Burak and destroy him. It’s not my fault he kidnapped you. That’s what you get for meddling in people’s lives. You made a powerful enemy, and I found a friend to get me out of the poor house.

You’re insane, Ceylin says. Yekta doesn’t care what she thinks. It’s just part of my life’s plan to ruin you, he replies, I’ll become stronger and find a new enemy for you to face. Now, let’s talk about Serdar. I thought Cinar would be the one who’d kill him. When Cinar called, your family ran to meet him. But Parla was the star of the show! I gave her the starring role!

What do you want, Ceylin asks. Yekta laughs then pauses, I want you to be sad. I’ll do whatever you want, she replies, what do you want? He’s savoring the moment… he stands and looks her in the eyes… you’re going to kill someone for me.

Ilgaz meets Pars and Eren. He finds out they’ve been helping Ceylin and Yekta was a suspect. Ilgaz wonders how Ceylin thought about it. Eren says that Merdan went after the boys who found the body. Ilgaz interjects, so she wanted to know if the blood at the dump belonged to Yekta. He asks, why don’t we question Ozgur? Pars thinks he will say the same as Yekta, they only drove by the dump.

Ilgaz wonders why Yekta didn’t say anything. Maybe he has no evidence, Eren says, this works for him! Ilgaz thinks Yekta has a plan and Pars agrees. If so, what is he waiting for?

Yekta works on Ceylin. Think about Parla’s life in there, think of your mother losing a grandchild, think of your sister. She had two kids, but she’ll be all alone. Think of your own pain. Will you enjoy life while Parla is in prison? Will you be able to sleep? Picture Ilgaz’s anger when he finds out what you’ve been hiding.

You’ll lose it all, Yekta warns. We can stop that. If I don’t send the footage, they won’t find anything and this will go down in history as a tasteless joke. All you have to do is kill someone for me. No one will know it was you. Make your choice. Decide. Yekta takes out his phone. Don’t be stupid. If you won’t do it, I’ll send Ilgaz the footage. Look, it’s ready to go. Just a tap away. Become a murderer or lose your loved ones.

Pars says we shouldn’t worry about who sent who or what they know. Who is the real killer? Parla? We won’t find the truth by talking about it. We can’t sit idle. Obviously, Yekta expects us to investigate him, and he will watch from afar. He’s thrilled by it. Let’s take the old-fashioned approach.

Eren asks, we’ll set them up and watch what they do? It should work, Pars replies, those kids are inexperienced and foolish. One of them will explode. Ilgaz says this is his family. Why set them up? Let’s think of another way.

secrets #84 part 4

Pars says, maybe your family is keeping something from you. That’s just your theory, Ilgaz answers. Pars counters, so do we wait for another email? Wait for someone to confess? We’ve been brainstorming with nothing to show. Ilgaz says, this is your case and you can do what you want. I won’t meddle anymore. He leaves. Pars tells Eren, sometimes people run away to avoid facing the truth.

Ceylin tries to grab the phone from Yekta. He taunts her. She keeps trying. Give it to me! I’ll never be a murderer! Yekta declares, if you are going to strike the king… you must kill him. He sends the message and tosses his phone into a fish tank. He laughs. The phone that Ilgaz left on his desk, pings.

Ceylin goes crazy and throws stuff around in Yekta’s office. She attacks him and she threatens, if I ever kill anyone, it will be you! She pushes him, he falls and is knocked out. She marches out of the office. Aysun and Omer watch her go.

Creepy Omer goes into the office and quietly closes the door. He stands over Yekta. Then checks to see if he’s alive. Yekta startles awake. What are you doing? Get out, you idiot, Yekta grumbles. He gets up.

Ilgaz grabs his coat and his phone and leaves the courthouse.

Pars and Eren continue talking. Pars says, just think, the Ilgaz who is always right, never makes a mistake, is disoriented now. Maybe that’s why he went on vacation. To escape the truth. We can never know what someone else is thinking. If Parla is guilty, it will affect us all. But we have to put sentimentality aside. I’ll put in a request to tap the family’s phones.

Ilgaz gets in his car and sees there’s a message on his phone. He plays the video that Yekta sent. He’s devastated.

Ceylin walks to a park and sits on a bench. She replays Aylin’s words about Parla going to prison. She hears her mother excuse herself for letting Merdan take the blame. There’s Merdan’s words on how prison changes a person. Aylin’s threat to kill herself.

Ceylin takes out her phone. She’s so upset, she throws her tangled headphones to the ground. She calls Cinar, Parla needs to go abroad. We need a passport.

Parla takes care of her mother. Aylin asks her to get her some water from the cafeteria. She takes that opportunity to call Selcuk. Unavailable. She leaves a message: you’re not answering my calls or messages. Where’s the passport? Call me.

Ilgaz agonizes in his car. He calls Ceylin. She doesn’t even look at her phone. He looks up her location. He calls Eren. Stop whatever you are doing. Get ready to meet me at my house in two hours. Tell Pars, too. It’s important that you’re both there.

Cinar hands a passport to Ceylin. Merdan had it made for Plan B. Ceylin is worried she’ll get a call from Gul any minute, telling her the cops are at the house. Cinar asks, what about Ilgaz? What will he do when he finds out? What do you think, Ceylin replies. I think he already knows. He’s looking at the footage before he hands it over to Pars. I don’t have much time.

Ceylin is on the phone to her mother as she leaves the pool hall. We need to talk. Ilgaz is there. She asks, are you here to see Cinar? No, he says, I’m here for you. He tracked her on the app. Let’s go home. She tells him she needs to go to the office. You can go later, he says, we need to talk. Cue Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Aren’t you going to ask, Ilgaz says. I figured you’d tell me, she answers. We shouldn’t talk until we get home, he says.

Pars says, he asked for two hours, what was he trying to tell us? Maybe he received another email or has new details. Since we have two hours, let’s eat.

secrets #84 part 5

This is so weird. Selcuk comes into the room pretending to be Dr. Cetin and Osman doesn’t have a strong reaction. Selcuk asks to be alone with Aylin and Osman defers to Aylin. She asks Osman to step outside.

How’d you find me, Aylin asks, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you answering my calls? I couldn’t, Selcuk replies. My friend who was supposed to get the passport was caught. He was arrested, and his family is very upset. He couldn’t finish the passport. I’ll find a way to fix this but, [surprise!] I need more money. You said you have the other half, right? Aylin says she’ll get it to him after she gets home. Then she questions, if there’s no passport, why do we have to give money? Selcuk says his friend will tell the police. We have no choice.

Pars, Eren and Derya are at lunch. Pars wonders if Ceylin found something they missed. Evidence that Yekta was there. Eren thinks it’s possible. Pars quips, I’m changing your name from Eren Duman to Eren Maybe or Eren I Don’t Know. Derya brings up the email from Ilgaz that Pars couldn’t open. How do you remember that, Pars asks. Forget I mentioned it, Derya replies.

Eren changes the subject. When is the wedding? Pars is stunned for a second, he answers, yes, we are getting married. How could we forget. Derya asks, did you really forget? Eren starts trouble. He tells Derya that Pars is avoiding setting a date.

Pars fires back, now you know what I’m avoiding, Eren? I mean… Eren I Don’t Know. That’s your name, right? Pars says, God willing, we will be married after New Year’s. A winter wedding to start a new stage in our lives. Eren exclaims, may God grant you a long, happy, and healthy life, may God bless your path and grant you good fortune. Pars stops him—alright, Eren Maybe, Eren I Don’t Know… let’s go.

Ilcey arrive home. It’s very tense. They sit side by side on the sofa. Ceylin waits for the ax to fall. Ilgaz begins, I received an email yesterday. The sender makes a claim, but I have yet to find out who sent it. It says Serdar was killed by someone else. Today I received another email. You need to hear this. He takes her hand. I’m about to give you the greatest pain of your life and it destroys me to do so, but… The person who killed Serdar was Parla, not my grandfather.

Ceylin buries her head in her hands and cries. Ilgaz holds her. He thinks and asks, did you know? She nods. How long have you known? She can’t answer, but Ilgaz understands.
Eren and Pars arrive a little early and wait in the car.

Ceylin tries to explain. I was against it, I opposed them. But your grandpa said I shouldn’t tell you, that he was dying. My mother, Osman and the others tried to convince me as if I was responsible for what would happen. You know that we’ve lost members of our family. Aylin said she’d kill herself. When I learned the truth, it was too late to do anything. My hands were tied, and I was tired of fighting!

Ilgaz asks, why didn’t you tell me when you found out? I swear I wanted to, Ceylin replies. I regret doing it. When you asked me to come here, I didn’t want to face you. Put yourself in my position, try to understand. I was trapped. I thought you changed, he tells her. I’ve changed, she says, I’ve changed! I swear I tried! She sobs, I never got a chance to show it! She makes an excuse, maybe if my family told me right away, I would have told you.

I don’t know how to manage this anymore, Ilgaz says, we’ll talk later. You know what’s going to happen now. Pars and Eren will come over and I’ll give them the footage and we’ll go through the legal channels. Ceylin begs, no, please! Parla is too young. She can’t go to prison. I’m begging you. What do you expect me to do, he replies. Don’t tell Pars or Eren, she answers, don’t tell anyone.

secrets #84 part 6

How can I, Ilgaz responds. How would I be able to live with that? Do it for someone else’s sake, she says. She’s my blood, my world. You’ll break my heart. He can’t believe what she’s asking. Are you asking me to lie to the authorities? No, she replies, I’m asking you to save a young girl’s life. He asks, so what do we do with the remorse we’ll feel? The shame? I won’t be able to live with myself! It goes against everything I believe in. I won’t be able to stay at my job. I can’t betray my profession to protect your niece.

Good grief, she still tries to talk him into it. Do it for me, you’ll move on. Parla is too young. She’s facing 15 years. Five years to close the case. Five years in custody! One year in juvie and then prison. Imagine what she will be like when she gets out? Think of her suffering!

This is about our oath of office, Ilgaz tells her, not our professions. I may quit my job, but I’ll never allow an innocent person to go to prison. I will not do it! She sobs. He tells her, I’d do anything to protect Parla and your family. I’ll bear the burden with you. I can quit, I can lay down my life, but I won’t do that. It means cheating the law and hurting others. There will be no justice.

What’s our lesson to Parla, he asks, that she can live with her lie? Does Parla have peace of mind? Parla won’t be the only one hurting. You will too. If you lose your sense of justice, you will lose yourself. You win, she tells Ilgaz. Your sense of justice and your beliefs have won. I’ll turn Parla in.

Then she tries to lay a guilt trip on Ilgaz. The world is full of evil people who walk free, but I’ll do this so you can call yourself a fair man. My heart will break, but I’ll turn Parla in! [waaah!] I’ll go to my mother’s house and prepare them. They’ll sleep together one last night and then I’ll turn her over to you. She grabs her coat and leaves.

Ozge brings Derya a new complaint. Ceylin attacked Yekta. Ozge says Yekta is there and he’s ready to talk. Yekta comes in slightly disheveled. He plays it up. He can hardly stand after that savage beating. He asks for water. Derya notes, you claim Ceylin attacked you in your office. My life is in danger, he replies, if you weren’t the DA on duty, I’d be talking to your husband. I’ll visit the hospital and get a report from them, too.

Pars and Eren see the upset Ceylin leave the house. They get out of the car. Ilgaz comes out of the house. Eren asks, what happened?

Aylin comes home from the hospital.

Ilgaz shows incriminating footage to Pars and Eren. Pars can’t believe it. They all attacked Serdar. They all should face charges. What do we do now? Ilgaz asks Pars for a favor. Ceylin went to her mother’s to tell them. Let them have a good night’s sleep. She promised to turn Parla in tomorrow. Pars says ok, we have to round the others up, too. Pars leaves. Ilgaz asks him a favor, too. I can’t pick up Defne from school.

Ceylin rushes into the house, shouting. Pack your bags, Parla. You’re leaving. What? What happened? Ceylin says they know, we have to get you abroad. Aylin won’t let them take Parla. Osman asks, how do they know? Now is not the time for whining or stupid questions, Ceylin says, she needs to go! Move it! Parla says she doesn't want to go.

Ceylin is adamant. You’ll spend a year in juvie and then serve your sentence in prison! Is that what you want? Parla leaves the room. Ceylin produces the passport. Stop staring and move! Aylin says, she can’t go alone. She’s never even left the city alone! Ceylin says, we have no choice! I came here after destroying my marriage and my life! You have 30 minutes!

secrets #84 part 7

Eren gets Defne and wants to take her to get cake. Defne turns him down. You’re eager to get home, he says, you didn’t use the bathroom at school. She gives an emphatic, no! Eren tells his tales of dirty school bathrooms that were too filthy to use. He’d hold it in. [TMI, Eren.] Let’s find a clean bathroom. That’s not it, she says. What’s the rush, he asks. Defne says she needs to go to the store to buy poster board for homework.

Ilgaz suffers at home. He thinks about what Ceylin said. He has a thought and calls Cinar. [Is Cinar at the airport?] Ilgaz asks, why did Ceylin come to see you today? Why do you ask? Ilgaz repeats the question. How should I know, Cinar lies, she wanted to check on me. She said you were worried. Ilgaz asks, is there anything you’d like to tell me? Anything I should know? Cinar lies again. Ilgaz presses. Cinar insists he has no idea. You’re the one who called me! Ilgaz hangs up.

Parla’s packed and ready to go. I guess they are all going along for the ride. They leave their phones on the table.

Haluk goes to Berkhan’s house. The door is ajar, but Haluk rings the bell. There’s no answer so he enters. Berkhan Bey? He finds Berkhan on the floor. He’s got a knife in his chest but he’s still alive. Haluk says he will call an ambulance. He dials 112 and tries to help Berkhan. It’s too late. Haluk is in shock and has blood all over his hands.

Ilgaz arrives at the Erguvan house. He rings the bell. No answer. He calls Ceylin. He bangs on the door. Ceylin! He peers in the window. He calls her. Her phone rings on the table inside. He checks the location. He breaks down the door. Ceylin! Anyone home? He sees the phones on the table.

The idiot family arrives at the airport. Cinar watches them.

Ilgaz makes a frantic call to Eren. Contact the airports, we need to stop her. We need to keep Ceylin from making a mistake. We need to keep her from letting Parla escape.

Ceylin tells the family to wait while she buys a ticket. Ceylin gets the ticket and says they have 30 minutes. Parla is going to Bosnia and Herzegovina. She tells Parla not to worry. Your mom will join you soon. Ceylin goes to exchange some TL for Euros.

Cops are on the way to the airport. So is Ilgaz. So is Eren.

Where will I go when I get off the plane, Parla asks. Ceylin says, take a taxi. You speak a little English. Go downtown and find a decent hotel. Most people there speak Turkish, so you won’t feel like a foreigner.

Cops and Ilgaz arrive at the airport.

Final goodbyes for Parla. Lots of crying. Parla starts to walk away. Cinar is still watching from a distance. He spots Ilgaz and co coming.

Ilgaz shouts, Ceylin!

And we are out!

secrets

Oh boy! This just gets darker and darker. I'm also reading a very dark novel about the Indian boarding schools and their refusal to allow native children to speak their own languages.

Thanks so much, dondi. Just a heart wrenching episode, and you got it all.

One bright moment is watching fake grouchy Pars as he rags on Eren.

Lots of "waah" and thanks, dondi, for pointing it out. That kid's nose is redder than Rudolph's all the time.

Of course Cinar is right; it's all his fault for calling everyone except the cops after locating Serdar.

So...they're going with Cinar and Parla as a couple? Let's hope for infertility. The best side of Cinar is his role as an older brother. He's at least good at that.

So Burkhan IS an honorable journalist, much good it did him.

I'm surprised I didn't throw rocks at my TV I was SO furious at Yekta's gloating over Ceylin. Why didn't she have the sense to record him on her phone? He confessed a lot.

I have a hunch that Yekta's verdugo (executioner, hangman, one who finishes someone off) might be Omer.

Merdan is such a mensch. He had the passport all ready for Parla.

Aylin's stupidity is driving me up the wall. What I can't figure out is why Selcuk ever picked her as his mark. Aren't there any rich women in Istanbul to prey upon?

Sheesh. Everyone's lives are ruined for Serdar?

I'm trying to figure out how Yekta arranged for Berkhan to die? It has to be "Yekta!" getting himself some leverage on Haluk. Would Ozgur go that far?

This show is messing with my blood pressure! Thanks, again, dondi, for all the excruciating details!

Thanks for commenting, everyone.

Kapakdokya was nice while it lasted. Good for the Turkish travel industry. Covered all the things they are famous for... the architecture, the hot air balloons, the horses, the pottery. This show was filmed during the pandemic.

"What was the point of the whole Arda/Sevin story?" It's unfinished and I wonder if it will come back with a vengeance.

I think we're all wondering why Selcuk has targeted Aylin.

Gotta be Yekta setting up Haluk to keep him under control or possibly take control of his company.

You might be onto something, novelera, Omer could be the one to finish Yekta. Let's hope. But then someone might need to take care of Omer.

Recap coming soon and then we will be caught up!

secrets #85 part 1

Quote for Turkish ep #49: "You are a knife that I turned towards myself!" - Franz Kafka

The law shows up at the airport and Parla’s family shouts at her—Go! Don’t stop! Parla, go! Don’t stand there! Move! Go! Parla is frozen in place. The family starts begging Ilgaz and Eren—please let her go! You have a daughter, too. Don’t do this! I’m begging you! Ilgaz, please!

Ceylin mercifully ends this—it’s pointless to beg now. Eren walks towards Parla and motions, come, dear. Ceylin looks at Ilgaz, he can’t look at her. Eren tells Ceylin they all have to go to the station. Ilgaz asks Eren to take Aylin and Parla in his car. The others can go together.

Ceylin gets into Ilgaz’s car. [I don’t know why he would allow her in after this.] He asks, what do you think you’re doing, Ceylin? What did you do? Did you ask for more time to help Parla escape? She immediately snaps back, of course! You forced me! I had no choice! I don’t want Parla to spend a single day in prison! But you get to decide what’s the truth, according to your sense of justice, because you’re the only one who’s right!

Ilgaz asks, is it wrong to be honest? A crime to have morals? Don’t drive me crazy! While I hoped you’d feel shame, you defend and excuse what you did. I’m not defending or justifying myself, she shouts, I want to explain myself, but the hell with that!

You used me, Ilgaz says bitterly, you literally used me! My position, my love for you, my trust in you… all while looking me in the eye. We’re done talking for now. He drives off.

Unfortunately, Ceylin is not done. Mr. Perfect, righteous man, why didn’t you come to me as my husband? You could have tried to stop me as my husband, instead of coming to catch me with the police like a criminal. Why did you show up as a DA? You think I didn’t try, Ilgaz responds, I called you many times! I even went to the house! You could have come as my husband, she repeats.

That is not important, Ilgaz says, you betrayed us both! She asks Ilgaz to pull over. He does, she gets out and gets into Eren’s car.

Ceylin starts making crappy explanations and excuses to Eren. I was stuck in the middle, and this is the result. Black swallows white, gray, and all the colors. Eren gives her a tissue.

Haluk washes the blood off his hands in the bathroom. He carefully starts to clean up his trail. He wipes down the front door and the cops show up.

The cars arrive at the station. Ceylin asks Eren if he saw the footage. She asks, do you think I can save Parla? Is there a small possibility? He shakes his head no. There’s nothing, it’s as clear as water, he replies. I’m just as heartbroken as you. They are all involved, Tugce, too! What are we going to do? Why are we being punished?

Pars watches in surprise as the Erguvans are brought in.

Ceylin tells Eren, don’t worry, I’ll save them all. [won’t she have to save herself, too?] She goes into the station.

Ilgaz asks Eren, what did Ceylin say? She’s looking for some hope, he replies, she asked if I watched the footage. She hasn’t yet. Ilgaz asks Umut to keep an eye on the Erguvans.

Pars asks Ilgaz, what happened? I thought they’d say goodbye and we’d start tomorrow. Eren says Parla tried to escape. We caught her at the airport. How did you find out, Pars asks.

Ceylin tells Parla, you’re going to be questioned. They’ll say they watched the recording and ask you to be honest. Don’t tell them what you did. No matter what happens, even if they harass you, don’t say anything. Don’t confess. Use your right to remain silent. Ceylin looks at the rest of them and tells them to do the same. I’ll kill you if you say anything.

Aylin asks, will they also ask us if Parla did it? Yes, Ceylin replies, and you could be tried, too.

secrets #85 part 2

Pars says the issues are endless. This isn’t just about Parla. We can charge her with involuntary manslaughter, but what about the others? Murder, confinement, threats and more. Let’s question them and take them before the judge. Ilgaz says no need to delay, do what you need to do. Eren asks if he can be the one to bring Tugce in. Yes. Ilgaz takes out his phone to get a hold of Cinar.

Cinar is home. He speaking with Metin. We always said we’d work things out, but things got worse. That’s what happened, Dad. Grandpa did what he could, but he did it all to protect us. Ilgaz calls Metin, I need to find Cinar. We have to question him. He’s here in front of me, Metin replies, I’ll bring him. Metin tells Cinar, tell him (Ilgaz) what you just told to me.

Pars asks Ilgaz, how did you figure it out? I need to know if Ceylin was involved from the start. He answers, I put it together and learned about the fake passport. She went to see Cinar during the day, she got it from him.

Ilgaz continues, it’s sad… you try to trust someone, but they just won’t let you. And when you point out their mistake, you’re the bad guy. I realized it later, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked for your help. I’m sorry. That’s not the point, Pars says. How does Ceylin fit into this? Isn’t it obvious, Ilgaz replies.

Pars asks, were you with her when she planned it? When she got Parla out of the house or when she got the passport from Cinar? You’re just speculating. I get that you’re upset, but I’m caught in the middle. I’m trying to remain objective. Help me.

Pars calls for Umut. Get Ceylin. Pars asks her, we are going to question them and I want to clarify things. Tell me, who planned this out? Who provided the passport? Ceylin says it was the parents. It was too late when I found out. I tried to stop them and dissuade them… Ilgaz interrupts… come on, Ceylin! Pars stops him from speaking.

Ceylin lies, I begged them to stop at the airport, but I couldn’t stop them. I even considered calling the police, but thankfully, DA Ilgaz showed up with them. As you know, parents can’t be punished for protecting or trying to hide their child. Pars asks, so you’re saying Aylin and Osman knew that favoring a child is not a crime? Did they learn that from a lawyer? Ceylin replies, whether they did or not, I’m here to protect my clients’ rights.

Pars says, ok, let’s question Parla. Is the juvenile expert here? Umut says he’s on another case. He won’t be available until tomorrow. Pars says they can’t wait. I’ll get started. He asks if Ceylin has an objection. She doesn’t.

Eren arrives home. Tugce is on the couch with popcorn and watching a movie. She thought he’d be home to watch together. Eren shuts the TV. He says, I thought I found a way for us to be honest with each other, but it was a lie. She asks, what happened? We watched the recording of what happened on the terrace, he replies. We know Merve wounded Serdar. And that you fired at the wall to protect everyone. And that Parla hit Serdar in the head and that’s where he died. We know the truth, he says.

Tugce answers, dad, we didn’t mean for things to turn out that way. I’m really sorry, I really am! I thought you had faith in me, he says tearfully, I thought you trusted me. I trusted you, Tugce. I’m heartbroken. They both cry. She’s very sorry.

If only we could solve this with an apology, Eren tells her, why didn’t you turn to me? Why didn’t you ask for my help? I would have protected you! Cared for you! Look at the situation! You’re going to be tried, and I’m going to die when I see you in handcuffs! There’s nothing I can do to help you. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Tugce cries, forgive me.

secrets #85 part 3

Pars tells Parla they have evidence that the incident didn’t occur as she described. Did Serdar die after hitting himself on the head? Parla looks at Ceylin, who shakes her head. Parla remains silent. Are you going to say anything, Pars asks. Ceylin answers, my client would like to use her right to remain silent. You can’t be serious, Ilgaz says.

Metin brings Cinar in. He asks Gul, how did this happen? That’s why I apologized, she replies, I was ashamed. I didn’t understand you then, but I do now. It’s easy to judge others and blame the world, but when you go through it yourself… Aylin tells her mother, it’s okay. Gul asks Metin, will Parla be taken in immediately? Is there any chance she will be released?

Ceylin says, AG Pars, the laws regarding our rights are very clear. We refuse to watch the recording. If you continue to insist, I’ll ask that my client be questioned in the interrogation room in the company of a specialist and that DA Ilgaz be kept out of the room. Pars answers, as you wish, counselor. Let’s call the others, but Parla needs to stay. I may have more questions for her. Ilgaz asks him to start with Cinar.

Aylin asks Ceylin, what’s going to happen? You all have to give statements. You have to wait. Ceylin tells Cinar to use his right to remain silent.

Ceylin goes over to Metin. Why are you here? Are you here to see what we’ve become? She raises her voice, say it! Don’t keep it to yourself! I haven’t said anything, he replies. You haven’t said anything, Ceylin answers, but I can see it in your eyes. I hear what you’re thinking! Say it! Get it out! Gul tells her to calm down. You’re embarrassing us.

Eren comes over. Is this the right place for this? Then let’s talk in an office, she says and they go off together.

Ilgaz asks Eren what happened between Metin and Ceylin. He’s not sure.

Merve arrives at the station. She asks Tugce what’s happening. It’s over, Tugce replies.
Ilgaz walks to where Ceylin and Metin went. They are hugging. She apologizes. I never meant to offend you. I couldn’t stand to see the way you looked at us. [lol, he looks at everyone that way.] Metin brushes it off, he’s not offended. She walks out of the room, past Ilgaz. Ilgaz asks his father if there’s a problem. Metin says no, it’s been settled.

Forensics is at Berkhan’s apartment. Evidence is collected. Haluk’s hands are swabbed. Rat-fet is there. Derya arrives. Rafet tells Derya he’s been sick with the flu. He says that the reporter is dead. He was stabbed in the chest. He died there. When our men arrived, they caught him trying to escape (he points to Haluk).

Rafet continues, I don’t think this will be an easy case. I found a bloody handkerchief in his possession. He said they’d agreed to meet. I don’t know much else. He wasn’t very coherent. But it seems clear, the fingerprints and evidence are straightforward. Derya says to take Haluk to the station. Haluk wants his phone to call his lawyer.

Yekta’s phone rings. [He looks pleased, was he expecting that call?] I’ll be right there. I’m going out, he tells Lacin, I’ll be late, don’t wait up.

Yekta is waiting outside the station when Haluk is brought in. He goes to him. What happened? I’m shocked. Weren’t you doing an interview? Yekta asks Rafet what happened. No one answers. Derya arrives and says, let’s go in so you can meet with your client.

Pars is getting nothing out of Cinar. What do you gain from staying silent? Ilgaz says, keep quiet and we’ll see how that works out. Sink into the mud and stay there. Ceylin snaps, as his older brother, you can reprimand him at home. Pars asks, are we done here? If everyone refused to speak, I’ll have them all arrested and they can go before the judge tomorrow. As you wish, Ceylin replies.

secrets #85 part 4

The lights go off in the station. What’s going on? Check fuses, check the generator! Fix it! The power comes back quickly but Parla is missing! Where’s Parla? Lots of confused looks. She was right here! Check the bathroom. Look everywhere! Hurry! No one saw her?!

Ilgaz accuses Ceylin. She answers back, I was right in front of you! How could I know what happened? The cops take action. Check the parking lot! The alleys! The streets! She’s hiding somewhere!

Trying to help and showing we mean well wasn’t enough, Pars says to the guilty group, we could have assigned two officers to follow her. But we thought since her family was here, and since we know each other… do you have any idea what this will cost?! I asked a question! Gul Hanım, you’re the oldest one here, where is Parla? She has no idea.

Pars asks everyone one last time, have you seen Parla? Aylin shouts, we really haven’t! It’s Ilgaz’s turn. Who planned this? That’s a big accusation, Ceylin says. Metin says that Parla was right there, sitting. The power went out and she was gone when it came back. No one did anything.

Pars exclaims, bravo! We learned of Parla’s new powers—invisibility and flight! Eren, take them into custody! Ceylin tells everyone they’re going to spend the night there. She will take care of things in the courthouse tomorrow. If you need anything, call me. [why isn’t Ceylin being detained?] Tugce tells Eren this isn’t her first time. She doesn’t want him to be mad at her.

Derya walks in. She tells them a reporter was murdered. Berkhan Tokdemir. Pars says, here we go. Haluk is brought in, with Yekta trailing. Ilgaz asks if that’s the suspect. Yes, Derya replies, the building watchman called the police, and he was caught leaving the scene. He claims he didn’t do it but… we’ll take his statement and go from there.

Haluk tells Yekta, I was at the house at the time you said. I rang the bell and noticed the door was ajar. I was suspicious at first, but I opened the door. I called him and went in when he didn’t answer. I found him on the floor, bleeding to death. Did you touch him, Yekta asks, don’t tell me you touched him?

How could I not, Haluk replies, he was alive, he reached out for help. I applied pressure to the wound. I thought I could save him. It was useless, he died before my eyes. What happened next, Yekta asks. I panicked, Haluk answers, I thought about running. Then I saw the blood on my hands and washed them.

Do you realize you tampered with evidence, Yekta asks. Continue. I’d left bloody prints on the floor, I cleaned them. I wiped all the surfaces I touched. While I did that, the police arrived. Yekta exclaims, you basically asked them to lock you up! Haluk claims he’s innocent.

Yekta wants to review the evidence that was gathered. Help me, Haluk begs. You will, won’t you? I didn’t kill anyone! Yekta asks him to be quiet while he thinks of a way out.

Pars says, we’ve seen this before. She will stay hidden, so we won’t take her into custody. I’m sure that’s the plan. Ilgaz grumbles, she (Ceylin) doesn’t know the meaning of boundaries. Pars says, she won’t let her spend a day in prison. She knows the judge will have Parla and the others remanded. This is a murder case. It was probably Ceylin’s idea. She never disappoints.

secrets #85 part 5

Ilgaz wonders who cut the power. Pars says either someone did it or it just happened. Derya says maybe it just happened and Parla took her chance. It’s normal to run. It’s normal for people of her age to ignore the consequences.

Eren says everyone is in their cells. Pars says he’ll issue an arrest warrant for Parla. Search everywhere. Ilgaz says to search his grandfather’s place and watch them. I’ll review IT footage to figure out what happened.

Ceylin speaks to her family. At least you won’t get into anymore trouble while you’re here. You’ll be here until tomorrow. Don’t question yourselves or ask what’s going to happen. Get some rest, it will be a long day tomorrow.

Ceylin runs into Metin on the way out. She thanks him.

And we are out.

Çok şükür, one hour episodes for a while!

secrets

Thanks so much, dondi. I am so happy for your getting a reprieve from the two-hour nonsense! I don't know how you do it. So much happens in these episodes!

I loved the Kafka quote. It probably is most apt for Aylin.

If I ever have to be arrested, let it be Erin, the kindest cop ever.

I'm giving Ceylin a bit of leeway. Of course, what she did was wrong. But this whole mess involving Serdar and with Yekta in the mix, was too much for her to take for her beloved niece. And Ilgaz's "stick" made him castigate her in the car, perhaps the right thing from his point of view, but exactly the wrong thing for their marriage. Silence would have been better.

Interesting that Turkey also has Meranda rights to silence.

This whole tragedy looks like it could have been written by the ancient Greeks.

I think Ceylin lied about her involvement so she could be around to defend her family members instead of being in a cell with them.

Wonder what happened to Tugce's mother. Looks like Eren has custody now.

Rat-fer must be in on the "frame Haluk" plot with Yekta. The only time he works is at Yekta's bidding. Our Team could see a bit of the plot if Haluk said Yekta was the one who told him to go to Burkhan's apartment.

Thanks again, dondi. Another terrific recap.

Secrets

Gracias, Dondi.

Ilgaz and Ceylin need to throw in the towel. I resent her calling him "Mr. Perfect." Ceylin, no one should be above the law. Parla needs a sound lawyer to get her the best deal but fleeing is not the answer. Plus she's not capable of making it in another country all alone. For Pete's sake, she's still clinging to Cinar.

Haluk set up for the murder of Berkhan? I didn't see that coming.

Some of this plotting is a big stretch, but seeing Yekta at the dump was unbelievable. The stench and bacteria there would've knocked him off his feet in real life.
