Notes from the couch . . .
I found this episode to be very oddly disjointed and so will be my recap!
MARTINA
The doctor tells Martina that her illness is progressive and there is no cure. She can keep as active as possible to delay the disease's effects. He suggests reading, doing puzzles, memory games and playing her piano. (Yes, Martina is quite the pianist but Univision cut the two family sing along scenes with Martina at the piano) He also tells her that the disease will also affect not only her memory but also her attention and behavior. He prescribes an anti-anxiety medication if she needs it. She is only to take one quarter of a pill in any 24 hour period with no alcohol or antihistamines in her system. She tells him that he is not tell her family.
Martina spends most of the episode crying that she is going to lose her memories of Gabriel and her family.
She goes home and although she had planned on meeting Gabriel at her house, she asks what he is doing there. He reminds her that he was supposed to meet her their with the surprise he has for her. She remembers and smiles. She comments that it is really bad losing things. He assures her that they will never lose each other again even though he doesn't know what she is talking about. He mentions that she seems distant but then changes the topic to their upcoming wedding . He is all excited about that day as if he were a young man. Martina drops the boom and tells him that she isn't ready to get married again and becoming the joke for all of Morelia to laugh at. She doesn't want to hurt him. He asks her not to withdraw from him again. He will not leave her. He knows something is wrong and will fight for her as he has his whole life. She asks him to leave so she can be alone. He agrees to let her rest and notices how he has to pull his hand out of hers.
Gabriel tells Andrea what happened and how something has to be going on that Martina isn't telling him. Martina used to be so very sure of herself but now she is full of fear. He is going to fight for her to feel safe again. She is the love of his life. Andrea suggests he take a break and come with her to Mexico City. He agrees. Later in the episode, Martina will take a cab to his home and will find out that he is not there.
LUCAS
The kid has ended up in the principal's office for calling her a "soldier." He thinks it is because of his mother telling him how you had to be disciplined to get what you want out of life. He mentions that she is dead. She knows how hard it is missing somebody you love. She lost her own husband a short while ago and just like his mother, he taught her that you need discipline to achieve everything you want. She asks what he wants to be when he grows up. He is certain he wants to be a musician. As a matter of fact, he wants to go to a music course during summer vacation. He is worried his father won't let him go alone. She says it costs nothing to ask and suggests that maybe he should write his father a letter. He says that is what his uncle Luis tells him. The bell rings and he is out of there.
CECILIA
When Cecilia calls Paula to complain about Ignacio, she is surprised that although Paula agrees that Ignacio never told her that Cass was coming, she is going to have to get used to the idea that Cass is his partner. Ignacio has rights, too. Cecilia goes to a therapy session with Ignacio and they agree to get along for their son's sake.
PAULA
Martina wants to give Jazz a music box playing "Swan Lake". The music takes Paula back to her childhood where she had a music box that played the same song and a woman watched her from the door to her room.
MARCO
Marco is pleased to find out that Honorio is going to make a trip back to Cuitzeo with his business plan for his hotel on wheels. He is going to talk it over with his family and see if it is something they want to invest in. Honorio tries to talk Micaela to go with him. It sounds like she would like to if she can.
ROGELIO
When Rogelio finds out that Ulises is leaving town, he jokingly tells Paula that is too bad. He just started liking him when he found out he was going out with Ale. They both laugh.
MELITÓN
As much as I liked Melitón before , he got on my nerves tonight. When the faucet comes apart in the kitchen and Honorio sends Melitón to his room to find a tool, he looks under the bed for it and finds a box. He opens the box and finds love poems that Honorio has written for Micaela. He gives Felipa the box and tells her to hide it. (REALLY?) Later they read the poetry. She likes it. He finds it corny.
Mellitón finds Martina's anti-anxiety meds and steals them. (REALLY?) As he brings in the tray from Martina's tea with Gabriel, it thunders very loudly and he drops the tray breaking the tea set. Micaela suddenly is all upset seeing that as a sign of bad luck. Melitón says if anyone is going to have bad luck, it will be him. He starts going hysterical thinking that something is going to happen to his twins. Melitón takes several of Martina's pills. When nighttime falls, the full effect of the pills has taken hold and Mellitón wanders outside screaming for his children. Lucas s freaked out. Imelda jokingly asks Fernando if it is "La Llorona." Fernando looks for his gun but can't find it. Melitón makes his way into the house still screaming for his children. . Everyone is out of bed asking what is going on. Rogelio asks Honorio to take charge of Melitón. They all laugh and go back to bed. The next day, Melitón has no memory of what went on but everyone is the house does. He soon finds out that what he thought was a bad dream isn't. Martina knows what happened. She tells him to return her pills.
A friend of Melitón's delivers some medicine for Felipa who is sick. He tells Melitón that he could make really good money if he went to the USA and picked oranges. It has worked out well for his cousin. Melitón is ready to go! Just sign him up! The guy will bring him the info. (REALLY?) LUIS
Luis is now researching Andrea's new boyfriend Marcelo Machado on line. He thinks he is a clown. (OKAY . . . )
FERNANDO
Rogelio tells Fernando that he backs him 100% so if he thinks that JJ is trying to seduce Imelda, they will together put a stop to it immediately but if it is just a supposition. . . Fernando quickly admits that it is not just that. He is afraid. His marriage isn't going well and he is worried that JJ is taking advantage of the situation. Rogelio is sorry to hear that. Fernando gets defensive as usual and asks what exactly Rogelio is sorry about because it is obvious that he doubts what he is telling him by basically asking him for proof. Fernando is done talking and leaves. (FER THE VICTIM JUST LIKE IG)
Fernando ends up at a café where he runs into Ignacio. Fernando asks him what he is doing here. (DUH!) Ignacio says he is getting coffee just like him. Ignacio says he would like Camilo and Fernando's son Hugo to grow up together. Fernando thinks that is ridiculous. Ignacio hopes that someday Fernando can put his complexes aside and see things as they really are. He calls Fernando "brother". Fernando reminds him that he told him not to call him that. Suddenly two armed masked men appear and start holding up all of the customers in the café. One points a gun at Ignacio and Fernando who are standing. Fernando starts to get agitated. Ignacio tells him to calm down. The thieves tell everyone not to move. Of course, Fernando (who always knows better than everyone else) has to reach into his back pocket. One of the thieves shoots as Ignacio throws himself over Fernando and tries to shove them out of the way. Ignacio is shot twice and falls. Fernando is suddenly begging his brother not to leave him.
That was it for me tonight. Please add anything I left out.
Jarifa, you handled tonight’s grim events with sensitivity and wisdom. A remarkable recap.
Sadness and trepidation permeated the air. “The doctor tells Martina that her illness is progressive and there is no cure” reflected the heartbreaking and inevitable prognosis of Alzheimer’s. Watching the doctor taking Martina’s hands in his, kissing them and having her do the same as he enveloped her in a hug was so touching.
Martina’s growing awareness of what will happen to her is almost impossible to watch. Gabriel waiting for her with that beautiful orchid had my heart going out to him. I’m sorry Martina has chosen to take flight rather than stay and fight. She needs her family by her side to make new memories that she can put to paper, not drive them away as every second is precious.
As the sand made its way through the hourglass, Fernando mewls to Rogelio and then gets angry and defensive over nothing. “(FER THE VICTIM JUST LIKE IG)” was exactly right!
There were a few sweet moments, Blanca unable to concentrate on work and succumbing to Marco’s charms; Lucas and his principle finding a bit of common ground; Paula encouraging Cecilia to work with Ignacio for their son’s sake.
I didn’t think anything that Meliton said or did tonight was the slightest bit funny. A rare and perplexing misstep by the writers ☹
I wonder what that memory of Paula meant…
Luis digging up possible dirt on Andrea’s new bf? Let it go Luis, let it go.
If Fernando had just kept a cool head and been non-reactive at the holdup, they would likely have been unharmed. But as you noted, “…Fernando (who always knows better than everyone else) has to reach into his back pocket”. He just can’t help himself!! Hopefully, Ignacio will survive without serious injury and this will be a catalyst for a reconciliation.
Martina’s lavender silk robe was lovely and her white silk blouse with lovely cuffs was stunning although I barely noticed it until the end…
Diana
Regina approaches Bernarda wanting to know what’s going on with Valentina and Bernarda reluctantly tells Regina that Esteban is Valentina’s father. Bernarda was hoping she could take that secret to her grave but when Esteban returned it became impossible. Regina is aghast to learn that Esteban didn’t know either that he had a daughter. Regina demands to know who her father is, but Bernarda doesn’t tell her. When the conversation turns to Clemente, Regina tells her mother that Clemente discovered a surgery that is available to Regina to recover her hearing. All she has to do is take the tests and Clemente will pay for it. Bernarda says if there’s such a surgery, Bernarda herself will take Regina to get tested but she won’t accept one red cent from Rutilio’s family and she wants Regina to stay away from Clemente!!! She can’t have Regina anywhere near that family.
Nanny finds Maria Teresa distraught, and MT tells nanny that she just discovered that Valentina is her sister. Nanny is shocked and MT explains that her dad didn’t know until just recently and this news must have been the news her dad wanted to tell her at the dinner he never made it to. MT seems to accept and relay Bernarda’s explanation that she never told Esteban about Vale because MT needed her father. Nanny agrees and says Bernarda is a good woman and that MT was very upset after her mother’s death. MT wonders, what about what Valentina needed? MT is in shock and highly distressed, why out of all the women in the world, did it have to be Valentina? Nanny says that Vale is a good woman and MT agrees she may well be, but Vale is in love with Santos and she’s her sister…
Nanny and MT also discuss the change in the will and how Bernarda won’t accept a penny from them. Nanny points out that MT needs to think carefully about this as she’s sure Esteban would have insisted on doing the right thing. MT agrees that this was her father’s last wish and she will honor it, Vale is going to get her 40%.
Santos is with Remedios, driving her crazy with his need to stay busy and not process his feelings. She encourages him for the umpteenth time to clarify his feelings and be honest with Vale. Santos is still sure he can come to love Vale with time, and he lies (very unconvincingly) that MT is now out of his heart.
Valetina is at Esteban’s grave, and she brought her dad flowers. ‘Papa’ she cries as she laments that she never got the chance to know him as father. She assures him that she felt a very special connection between them the moment they met and she’s sure they would have had a wonderful relationship.
Vale next runs to Santos for comfort. He is immediately alarmed to see her so upset and demands to know what is wrong and if she’s okay but as soon as she reveals that she is MT’s sister, it’s Santos who isn’t okay!!! Santos listens to Vale’s story and tries to comfort her, but things go south quickly when he asks how MT is feeling. Vale is appalled that after everything that happened and the way that MT treated him, Santos is STILL so concerned with her!! WHEN, she asks, when are you going to be able to put me first??? This question leads to a new level of nightmare for Vale as Santos tells her that finding out she’s MT’s sister changes everything! Why? Vale doesn’t understand, and Santos makes her horrible day worse by finally admitting to her that something did happen between him and MT in the capital and that he fell in love. Santos breaks up with Vale and tells her he can’t be with her now. He can’t come between sisters. Vale tries to argue and to say she doesn’t need MT, but Santos reminds Vale that knowing her father has always been so important to her and MT is the only one left who can give her the answers she needs. They need each other, they are sisters! Vale says that Regina is her ONLY sister! She continues to argue with Santos, but we’ve reached the point of no return and eventually she broken-heartedly accepts this and walks out. (And as harsh as this was, I kind of admire Santos for ripping off the band aide and coming immediately clean after finding out they are sisters, instead of 2 weeks or 2 months later)
Meanwhile Marco and Chacal are still enjoying ordering the workers around, demeaning everyone, and bad mouthing both Santos and Bernarda. Poor Cris has his hands full trying to deal with all these creeps.
Marco’s day does get worse when he finds out from MT that Santos got released because he’s innocent after all. MT is now defending Santos and insisting that the whole thing was a cover up intended to frame Santos! Marco is incensed! He runs to Rutilio who says he had no choice but to let Santos go because there were witnesses!!! (There was a lot more to this discussion, but my nephew asked me a question at this point and distracted me, you’ll have to forgive me and hopefully someone can fill this in…. I do know the discussion ended with the men reminding one another that if one goes down the other will go down with him)
After finishing with Rut, Marco returns to MT and concedes that Santos is innocent, he assures her that he will stay on top of the investigation and make sure that the police find out who killed her father! (Yeah right). He senses something else is wrong but MT demurs. Just when I think she is FINALLY going to make through a discussion with Marco without oversharing, she pivots and tells all again!!! Vale is her sister and Marco is rocked!!! He can’t believe it and then he tries to convince MT that Bernarda is an ‘interesada’, he claims that she once tried everything she could to seduce him too! To her credit, MT buys none of this and tells Marco that she knows Bernarda and she’s nothing like that. MT talks about sharing her inheritance with Vale but Marco thinks this is a mistake as MT is the only legitimate heir!!!
Adriana and Irasema did their cackling, but I didn’t pay much attention to them either. I do know Adriana was gloating about having Rut wrapped around her finger but that’s about it. Later Norma showed up looking for more marriage advice from her buddy Adri! Run run run run run is the only marriage advice she needs but she’s too stupid to do it.
Vale returned to the ranch and Cris finds her crying. She tells him the newly discovered father news, and also that Santos broke up with her because MT is her sister and he’s in love with MT. Cris hugs Vale close and comforts her. (I was reminded of my original prediction that Vale and Cris would be endgame, but I suppose that won’t happen since Cris and Geno are so cute together) Vale next runs into Bernarda and quickly makes it clear that there isn’t going to be a mother/daughter reconciliation anytime soon! Because of Bernarda, Vale never got the chance to know her father and now she’s lost the love of her life too!!! Vale is never going to forgive her mom for this!!!
Bernarda’s no good, horrible, bad day gets worse when she runs into Marco. Marco is fresh off finding out about Esteban and Vale and he starts flinging all kinds of ugly accusations at Bernarda. He always believed that he was the reason they couldn’t be together – his mistakes and faults – but now he knows the type of woman she really was and what she was looking for! Marco calls her a slut and Bernarda demands respect but just as this argument is ramping up our episode fades to black.
Since when stealing someone's clearly private poems is funny? I got very angry at Meliton there. I cannot stand people who take and read stuff without permition. Do these writers really have sucha terrible sense of humour? Idiots.
I really don't want Luis to get back with Andrea. These two clearly want different things and there's something about them as a couple that I dislike. Maybe it's the fact they were just added for the sake of having another couple. I like Luis and I wanted something more interesting for him. If they'll go for the 'she realised she still fancies him' twist, that will be the most boring thing ever. They piled on a bit too many things in this telenovela and the bad thing is that it's obvious. Why ruin a good thing as usual?
Ignacio made me angry too with his 'get over your complexes'. Dude, you landed him in jail and he is the one with complexes? Ignacio seems to think that Fernando owes him forgiveness just because Ignacio feels justified in what he did. I don't know if he wants to get along with them but at the same time wants revenge because it's not like Ignacio would have changed his plans after leaviing that cafe even if that shooting hadn't happened.
Cecilia's reaction to Casandra reminds me a bit of Ignacio's reaction to Ricardo. They both seem to be jealous. But why she still loves Ignacio when all I saw in that relationship was that she constantly walked on eggshells around him.
I'm very sorry for Martina. But Gabriel deserves the truth. People who act the way she does never think even for a second how it feels not having an explanation and just ending things. If someone did that to her, I doubt she'd be happy. I'm not buying it's just to 'protect him from more pain'. Martina can't yet bring herself to tell him what she has. Maybe she fears his pity or something. Because her kids don't know what's happeneing either and at some point they will know the truth. And Gabriel will too. I don't get how she thinks she's sparing him more pain when he is bound to find out and will be even more hurt that she didn't let him be with her for the time they did have left. This condition causes pain for the family no matter what.
I'm a bit irritated they decided to focus on this condition because I liked the idea of finding love at an older age. I knew about this condition from comercials long before they started showing it in the movies so their idea to 'inform me' of this doesn't work veryy well. Are they now going to give this illness to every older character? I hope this doesn't become the defining feature of older people in telenovelas as televisa already lacks originality. As Martina has become somewhat likable only recently, I am not as sorry as I would be if she hadn't spent most of the telenovela being annoying.
Sorry to bail out last minute, but I woke up feeling a bit ill today. I thought it'd go away and it did, for about an hour; then I got worse. I haven't had a chance to do my regular Monday highlights; if anyone can write something I'd be very thankful, otherwise I'll post the Wikipedia + Univisión highlights. Thanks for your understanding.
Gracias, Darcy. Did they announce the finale date? That is not included in the On Demand playback.
I am still convinced that Rut is the killer and amazed he can play it as cool as he did in this episode. But why not? He has no emotions beyond anger and contempt.
Norma is still an idiot. I am trying to decide if she deserves to be stuck with Rut as much as Clemente deserves to be free of him.
Marco is an emotional sadist as much as the Jackal is a physical one. May both of them end up dead.
I can't fault Bernarda except she should have moved away with Val. Are we ever going to find out about Regina's father?
For me, the highlight of the last episode was Lucas' talks with with the principal. They seemed almost kindred spirits. I liked how she spoke to him as another person and not as a kid.
Martina's reaction was so reallistic and therefore heartbreaking but I have enough of the tears after this episode. They made their point.
Fernando was as stupid as it gets. Don't move means don't move. Another Duh! for Fernando. Two "Duh's " in one scene. You can't get worse than that. The actor that plays him is Francisco Pizaña and he is doing an outstanding job.
Diana, my head gets bigger everyday. LOL Thanks. The episode was just weird. I felt like we were treading water after Martina's diagnosis and before Ignacio's shooting. "I didn’t think anything that Meliton said or did tonight was the slightest bit funny. A rare and perplexing misstep by the writers ☹" Me either. I liked that the one person he did not fool was Martina who he might have fooled due to her illness. She knew where her pills went. There was some poetic justice there. Melitón was entertaining when we didn't know so much about him and in small doses.
waterlily, "I'm a bit irritated they decided to focus on this condition because I liked the idea of finding love at an older age. I knew about this condition from comercials long before they started showing it in the movies so their idea to 'inform me' of this doesn't work veryy well. Are they now going to give this illness to every older character?" Good question. Maybe are are just going through a phase and there will be a new disease of the week for novelas soon. I also have liked the idea of older characters in romantic relationships. How about a novela where everyone is healthy and has no deep emotional problems?? A novela with no doctor visits or hospital trips?? Now that would be a novel novela.
Thanks, Jarifa, you somehow pulled this episode of “this and that” together.
Why would anyone take pills that don’t belong to them. I somehow missed him taking him taking Honorio’s box of poems but did see him sharing them with Felipa. I was very disappointed in him. I didn’t realize the pills were for anxiety so I guess he saw that on the bottle. But still not the right thing to do. So he can try to get in the US if he wants!
Fernando was another real jerk last night. Although that’s his usual character. Is he ever going to realize how he acts and try to change! Ignacio looked really wounded. Can’t believe I’m hoping he’ll be ok.
I was excited about Martina and Gabriel and hate that they’ve given her this disease. I hope Gabriel does fight for her.
Also hope Lucas and the new principal form a friendship. They connected well with ease other.
Liz
Thanks Darcy, I enjoyed your recap. MT seems to be looking at Marco with some doubt now. She seemed to notice he was really wanting Santos to be guilty. And I think he went too far when he started talking about Bernarda, whom MT has always liked. Also, he insisted she was the legitimate heir, but people can leave their money or property to anyone, and that would make them the legitimate heir.
I feel like either Marco or Rut killed Esteban, but have no idea which one, but I did like that if one goes down they both go down. I’m ready to see that.
I can’t stand the way Marco and Jackal are treating Chris and the workers. I kept hoping MT would show up to see what’s going on.
I’m glad Santos broke up with Valentina but his reasoning makes it impossible to go back to MT. He would still be coming between the sisters.
I also thought Chris and Valentina could get together but he and Geno are such a cute couple.
Hope something happens to one of our bad guys tonight!
Liz
"I also have liked the idea of older characters in romantic relationships. How about a novela where everyone is healthy and has no deep emotional problems?? A novela with no doctor visits or hospital trips?? Now that would be a novel novela".
Happily ever afters should exist for everyone Jarifa, I couldn't agree more. I really thought that was going to happen here...
As far as "no deep emotional problems", that would be lovely and refreshing, wouldn't it?
Diana
It gets worse and worse. There's something about being locked up and not being able to leave that frightens me in these shows and it doesn't matter it's just a show.
Emilia is at a manicomio and Roberta pays her a visit. Apparently Nico is now her son and Emilia is going to pay for 'murdering Mauricio. It was funny that when Fidel said it was Roberta's fault, she didn't contradict him.
Sara calls Joaquina for help. Joaquina gets a doctor who tells Leo needs to go to the hospital. He doesn't? Because he later turns up at that mental hospital where Emilia is held.
Orlando makes use of his brain cells and realises his father and Addled are both responsible for 'the trial' Emilia got and tries to find out if she was brought to prison. She wasn't and he learns where she is. He gives Leo the news. Emilia now has paranoia and schizophrenia. I'll strangle Leo if he believes it. She attacks him at the end so I fear she has just lost his support because he is taking the same stupidity pills Orlando does. I bet Orlando lent him some and that's why he now is more active.
The doctor tells Roberta her son turned up to see E but that she was able to prevent him from seeing her using medical explanations. As no one in this family has studied law, she could have told them that they couldn't see E because she had a visit from the unicorns. It appears you don't need an order from a judge to see her.
Addled tries to threaten Jenifer because he doesn't want her to work at the preesinct. She says 'OK, daddy, I'll tell them about your lady then'. He says 'open your mouth and you'll get to know your father.' She doesn't seem to care. Maybe because she already knows him.
Another woman at the mental hospital spots E is trying to escape and tells her now she can't do it and the bestthing to do is to pretend. Emilia tells her the story we all know. The woman says she'll have to choose between her child and the man she loves. She says 'don't make the same mistake I did'. It appears the woman chose the man over her kid and now regrets it. She's been at that hospital for 20 years.
The doctor of that hospital is a sadist because when she learns E is bleeding, she just says the staff to take her to her room. 'If she were dying, she wouldn't be moving like this'. I hope this doctor ends up as a patient here. Maybe together with Roberta.
Addled's wife has some visitors who tell her she is a candidate for the presidency of the united women of St. Lorenzo. How? Why? This was funny. But imagine if she was elected and told everyone how she let her husband's mistress stay at her house. Now that's what I call being united. The said mistress is told to stay in her room during the visit, though.
Roberta thinks Leo has been killed and is angry. But is told by her dear friend F that he did this for her and they are in this together so shut up and be glad because we either win together or sink together.
Joaquina slaps Roberta. But then tells her she 'nearly' killed Leo. Why tell her this? She says Roberta promised to love Leo but hates him. Roberta says she tried but couldn't.
Marijo takes Nico to see his abuelo and the rest of the clan.
Sebas and tigre go to see the nasty lawyer who was bribed. Tigre records the conversation where the lawyer says he was only being practical because he knowswith whom it's better not to mess.
Poor Leo asksSara if she thinks his mum could have tried to kill him. She says 'my sweet summer child, la respuesta es si.' He asks her how she knows so much because she tells him Roberta didn't deny she was responsible for the explotion. She says I sided with her for 'love'. She asks the prince charming to forgive her and he does. She now knows she's lost him. He asks her to get a good lawyer, though. She agrees.
Sorry this is so disjointed, but I found this episode hard to recap for some reason.
Gracias, Jarifa.
I totally agree that Meliton was not funny in this episode; his actions were stupid beyond belief. And leaving Mexico to pick oranges in the US when Felipa is pregnant with twins? Por favor...
Martina is the big concern here and my vote is that she does not want to look weak in front of Gabriel or her family. I am also concerned that all actors over 75 will end up doing stories like this and I'm also wondering whether this was in the Turkish original. The message here could be that hiding this condition is what not to do.
Darcy, your recap was steeped in vivid detail and your picture-perfect narration of all that transpired was wonderful.
“Valetina is at Esteban’s grave, and she brought her dad flowers. ‘Papa’ she cries as she laments that she never got the chance to know him as father” was touching and heartbreaking. One of too many such moments last night.
I have to repeat this in its marvelous entirety: “WHEN, she asks, when are you going to be able to put me first??? This question leads to a new level of nightmare for Vale as Santos tells her that finding out she’s MT’s sister changes everything! Why? Vale doesn’t understand, and Santos makes her horrible day worse by finally admitting to her that something did happen between him and MT in the capital and that he fell in love. Santos breaks up with Vale and tells her he can’t be with her now. He can’t come between sisters”. I was horrified at Santos’ very bad timing, leaving Valentina at her lowest point. That said, there was never going to be a good time was there? Yes, perhaps it is best everything came crashing down at once rather than incrementally. Still, my heart goes out to her.
There is no way Valentina will stay after Santos and Maria Teresa inevitably get together, part owner or not. I don’t see she and Cris together either, not that a man is an answer. The ranch and the land, her work has been her whole life, it will be hard for her to start over.
Guess “Santos is still sure he can come to love Vale with time, and he lies (very unconvincingly) that MT is now out of his heart” was but a passing fancy.
Bernarda, deep in distraught prayer about Valentina, being confronted by Regana, NOW asking who her father is! I admit I’m wondering too. I initially thought it was Marco, now, I have my doubts.
Both mother and daughter had “no good, horrible, bad days.” Marco rubbing Bernarda’s wounds with salt of frustration and anger was hard to watch. Yet he realizes his plot to marry MT and all that entails is imploding. The only bright light here…
Diana
Waterlily, thank you for the recap. I, too, find it bard to watch Em Hrlpless and trapped in that manicomio. How long will we were have to endure scenes of her in there with that evil doctor ?
So, Fidel is the one who bad Leo shot .
I am starting to wonder if Jo is Roberta's sister and also if she is Leo's mother. Maybe Jo had him out of wedlock and asked Roberta to raise have as her own. That would explain why Roberta hates Leo and fawned over Mau.
Waterlily, thank you for this fantastic recap.
Weirdo, I hope you feel better soon!
Everything was so gruesome I readily admit I averted my gaze many, many times during the endless depressing scenes. “There's something about being locked up and not being able to leave that frightens me in these shows and it doesn't matter it's just a show”. Well said – exactly.
I didn’t realize the woman trying to help Emilia was another patient, I thought she was a nurse so thank you for clarifying.
“Orlando makes use of his brain cells and realises his father and Addled are both responsible for 'the trial' Emilia got and tries to find out if she was brought to prison. She wasn't and he learns where she is. He gives Leo the news. Emilia now has paranoia and schizophrenia. I'll strangle Leo if he believes it. She attacks him at the end so I fear she has just lost his support because he is taking the same stupidity pills Orlando does. I bet Orlando lent him some and that's why he now is more active” was perfect.
Dr. Mengele has a female counterpart I see. Unfathomable.
“Poor Leo asks Sara if she thinks his mum could have tried to kill him”. I did think it was Roberta and was shocked to find out it was Fidel. Still, Roberta IS truly Satan and he must reject her and all in her orbit of evil.
“I am starting to wonder if Jo is Roberta's sister and also if she is Leo's mother. Maybe Jo had him out of wedlock and asked Roberta to raise have as her own. That would explain why Roberta hates Leo and fawned over Mau” is an interesting theory Susan. There HAS to be something behind her pure, vitriolic loathing.
I have a bit of respect for Jenny standing up to her loathsome father. “He says 'open your mouth and you'll get to know your father.' She doesn't seem to care. Maybe because she already knows him” had me nodding in vigorous agreement.
The one thing I can add is that Orlando and Jenny were stripping away and getting carried away…
Diana
Diana, I thought that one woman talking to Em was a patient , but it seemed there were 2 sympathetic nurses talking to her. That doctor is a monster.
I like the way Oswaldo conveyed that he was indeed still in pain after being shot and was very convincing with his grunts and groans and the way he moved . He wasn't Superman just bouncing back from those bullets.
Orlando seems to be making Jenny a nicer person. Now if he would just wake up and stand up to his awful father and Roberta.
Jo doesn't seem as afraid of Rob now that Leo has been shot . She gave Rob a really great slap . I dont think Jo is Leo's nana. She must be his birth mother .
Jarifa, thank you for another excellent report from the couch on all the drama as these writers are determined to keep the pot boiling until the very end .
Babies , babjes, babies ....And babysitting drama for working couples.
Too much time spent with the foolishness of Meliton. It isn't funny .
It is very hard to watch Martina face her tragic diagnosis. It was so sad watching the Golden bachelor Gabriel walk away looking frail and defeated . Why couldn't the writers have given Martina and Gabriel a HEA for awhile until one of them passed .
Loved the moments with Marco distracting Blanca ...a bright spot. That's young love...you can't keep your hands off each other . Will there be another baby before the end?
Okay...now Igy takes a bullet for Fernando. Could these two guys be anymore connected ? Both hard to deal with.
Urban, they didn’t announce the finale date that I saw, but there was a lot going on in my sister’s house and I was looking away during commercials so I may have missed it. Zap2it is still showing episodes all week next week which can’t be right.
Thanks Jarifa! You make gold out of the disjointed!!
It is sad about Martina and Gabriel but refreshing to see him react with concern for her and determination to find out how to help her feel safe rather than reacting from hurt feelings and concern for his own feelings.
Is Ignacio going to die? I would hope not but the taking a bullet for his brother scene kind of has the ‘redemption via dying for a loved one’ feel to it. Of course, he could live and be reconciled to his brothers based on the fact he saved Fernando’s life.
Weirdo, I know Tuesdays are difficult for you to begin with. As you also aren't feeling well, I will put up a few highlights tonight.
That said, I ask everyone to please keep your expectations low. Based on the preview, it looks quite gruesome so I won't be going into a lot of detail (not that I can understand most of this anyway) :( but I will give things a try...
Diana
Darcy, thank you for providing an excellent , detailed recap in the midst of your vacation ! Wow. So generous of you .My family and friends get a biggie out of my interest in telenovelas.
I think Marco is Regina's father..ugh, and Rut killed Esteban.
I think Chris is as old as Santos , so Val needs to start hanging out with the young guys in town.
MT and Santos are destined for a HEA at the ranch . I hope they buy a tractor , milking machines, and some other up to date farm equipment to truly make that place profitable once the villains are dead or jailed. The End .
Liz, I am not looking forward to Martina's decline. I am disappointed that they are ending her romance this way.
Urban, good point wondering if the Alzheimer's was in the Turkish original or if they tweaked the plot.
Susan, "Loved the moments with Marco distracting Blanca . . . a bright spot." It was a nice break. "Will there be another baby before the end?" That is a good question!
Darcy, "Is Ignacio gong to die?" I hope not. If anyone should have been shot and possibly died it should have been Fernando but I am sure they will take the moral hIgh(er) road. LOL
Gracias, Jarifa. Any way you dish it is always a treat. Thanks for letting us know that past scenes of Martina playing piano had been deleted - what a shame.
I hope Gabriel finds out soon and Martina and he live it up until she can't any more.
I felt sorry for the actor playing Melitón. I imagine he read the script for last night and thought "what the hell"?
Date correction. Vencer is premiering November 13th at 8 Eastern. Subject to change of course...:)

Even Imelda cannot believe her. She asks her mother not to get involved with Ignacio. They are going to end up in ruin.
9. Melitón and Felipa hide the poems from Micaela when she brings some bread to Felipa in their room. Felipa explains that she has tears in her eyes because of a poem Melitón recited to her. Micaela thinks poetry is a miracle and asks Melitón to recite one of his on the spot. He recites something about finding her heart at a bus stop until it ran over a pedestrian, but it rhymes! Micaela thinks it is depressing but tells him to keep practicing because there isn't a woman who can resist a poem.!!! Felipa has a plan now to make Micaela fall for Honorio.
10. Marina keeps going over what she has just been through with her diagnosis and Gabriel in her head. Then she starts to write down the memories of her life before she forgets it all.
11. Imelda tells Micaela what happened with Ignacio but nobody can tell Martina.
12. Fernando tells Rogelio that what happened to Ignacio is all his fault. Rogelio disagrees. Ignacio tried to protect him. Fernando states that after all of the hatred he had for him, Ignacio still saved him. Luis and Cecilia arrive at the hospital quickly followed by Benito ready to take Fernando's statement.
13. Paula comes home with Camilo and finds out from Micaela that Martina was out. She insisted on a taxi and when she came back she closed herself up in her room. Paula thinks that is so strange.
14. Rogelio has to leave the hospital for a meeting. Cecilia and Luis remain.
15. A nurse comes out and gives all of Ignacio's personal belongings and bloody clothes to Cecilia. The nurse tells Cecilia that one bullet razed Ignacio's shoulder but another is lodged in his right lung. That is very dangerous. They will be notified as soon as the surgery is over.
16. Ignacio's phone rings and Cecilia sees it is Cass. She answers and tells Cass what happened to Ignacio and to come quickly.
17. Blanca is sending her designs to three magazines. She tells Marco to keep his fingers crossed that they are published.
18. At the company before the meeting, Rogelio tells Marco, JJ and Fidel about how Ignacio got shot trying to protect Fernando. Fernando is okay but feels guilty. All of the men offer their support to both men.
18. Martina continues writing . . .
19.Imelda tells Paula Ignacio Is still in critical condition but what really worries her is that Ignacio's situation could have direct consequences on the family. Paula says the first thing is to get beyond this. Imelda tells Paula that Martina still doesn't know.
20. Paula visits Martina who forces a smile when she walks in. Paula asks if she is okay. Yes, she is. She had a headache and took a nap. Paula only wanted to know if she needed something. Paula remarks that Gabriel was not around today. Martina lies and says he had things to take care of at his office. Paula says she knows Martina doesn't like what she is going to do and proceeds to give Martina a hug. Martina hugs her back with a smile. She tops the hug off with a kiss on top of Paula's head. Paula tells her she loves her a lot. Martina loves her, too.
20.Martina gets a phone call from Fernando telling her what happened to Ignacio. He is fine but Ignacio is in critical condition. He is staying at the hospital with Ignacio. He talks Martina into not coming but she wants to be advised about everything that happens.
21. Martina is aggravated that Paula didn't tell her about Ignacio. Paula says she was told not to. She asks Martina if the doctor has called with the test results. Martina says no and decides she wants to rest some more. Paula leaves.
22. Andrea tells Marcelo she needs to go to Morelia to talk to Martina about her father.
23. Paula calls Martina's doctor. He is out of town at a professional meeting.
24.Lucas tells Regina he wants to go to Mexico City or other places to study music in the summer. There is nothing wrong with Paula's school but he wants to learn other kinds of music. Regina doesn't want him to go because she is afraid he will find another girl he likes better than her.
25. Melitón gives Micaela an envelope that "just arrived" and says it is for her. He is disappointed when she doesn't open it. As soon as he is gone, she does. It is beautiful poem.
26. The doctor tells everyone that they removed the second bullet. Rogelio is in serious condition. The operation was long and hard. Ignacio is under observation and is going to be placed in intensive care. His lung was badly damaged and he needed to be intubated. They are going to have to be sure that his brain hasn't been affected by a lack of oxygen. They will have to wait until he fully regains consciousness from the anesthesia to do some neurological testing. Nobody can see him. The doctor suggests they all leave. Cass,
Luis and Fernando insist they are staying.
27. Fernando touches base with Martina at home. He is worn out but fine. He blames himself for what happened to Ignacio. Martina doesn't agree. Fernando is planning on returning to the hospital to spend the night. Like it or not, Ignacio is his brother and is responsible for what happened to him. He won't leave him alone.
28.Ceci calls Paula to check on Camilo. All is fine. Cass tells Ceciiia to go rest. Luis agrees but Cass insists on staying for a while yet.
29. Imelda doesn't understand why Fernando is going back to the hospital. She reminds him what Ignacio did to him in the past. Fernando insists that he is still his brother. Fernando ends up blaming her for getting shot at because she showed up with Ada at work and he had to go out for a coffee. She thinks he is crazy. He says it all happened because of her need to be an "independent" woman. (Does Andrea handle divorces?? )
30. Luis goes to the cafeteria. Cecilia apologizes to Cass for how she treated her the other night when she was with Ignacio. Cass says no need to apologize. it was a strange situation for everyone. Cass only wants them to all to get along. She doesn't want to complicate anybody's life. Cecilia says things with Ignacio are never easy. Cass agrees but tells Cecilia that Ignacio cares for and respects her. She is the mother of his child. Cecilia asks if Cass loves him. Cass says she does. Cecilia concludes that they share affection for the same man but in different ways, of course. Cass laughs and suddenly they seem to be friends.
31. Rogelio notices that Lucas seems upset. He is having problems with his novia. He said he was going to ask permission to go to a summer music course and she got angry. Rogelio says those courses are for older kids. Lucas says some are but he found classes for children seven and up in Mexico City, LA,and San Francisco. Lucas says he has the good grades. Rogelio thinks it is a lovely idea but is also pretty crazy. He assures Lucas they will talk about it later. Lucas is upset nobody gets him.
32. Cecilia tells Paula that Ignacio is doing very poorly. Paula says to give it time. Ceciia decides to go home with Camilo.
33. Rogelio complains to Paula that now Lucas wants to study music during his vacation. Paula sees it as a great idea. Lucas has a vocation and knows very clearly what he wants to do. Rogelio says he isn't into discussing that right now. Paula reminds him it is about his son. Rogelio asks Paula if Lucas wanted to be a mathematical physicist, would she approve or is it only because he wants to study music. She cannot believe he would ever ask her such a thing knowing her as he does. He admits he was out of line and blames it all on being worn out. He decides to go back to the hospital. Paul tells him that she misses him. He tells her that these have been some really difficult days.
34. Regina voices her concerns about Lucas going to music school to her father. He tells her that she really loves Lucas, she will have to allow him to do what he wants.
35. At the hospital, Fernando and Rogelio are left alone. Rogelio says he knows how Fernando feels because in spite of everything that Ignacio has done to hurt them in the past, he is going to change his attitude about Ignacio for what he did to save Fernando. Fernando is going to do thevsame. Fernando is tired of being angry all the time for being number 2, all the resentment, feeling insecure and the anguish. He tells Rogelio that he always has adored him. They hug. Rogelio loves him, too, a lot.
36. Regina explains that she isn't angry with Lucas. She is just afraid that he will stop loving her. Lucas says that will never happen. She is the only girl he has ever liked in his life.
37. Andrea comes to see Martina. She wants to tell her how much she is hurting her father and how he doesn't deserve it. Martina tells her that she has some powerful reasons for acting like she is. She would rather hurt him now that later. Andrea asks what could be so powerful to make her break his heart like she has. It isn't right. Martina will talk to everyone when it is prudent. Andrea promises not to say a thing. Martina emphasizes that she knows that it isn't fair but life isn't fair. Andrea leaves.
38. Felipa notices how happy Micaela is in the kitchen. Felipa hands her another envelops that somebody left for her. When Micaela opens the envelope. It is another lovely love poem. Micaela so enjoys it.
38. The doctor awakens Cass and Fernando with news about Rogelio who had a very rough night. He came to, removed his breathing tube and injured himself. At one point , he got violent. They now have him in an induced coma. The doctor fears that Ignacio suffered brain damage do to the bullet in his lung. They will be doing neurological testing. The doctor fears that Fernando's odds are not good.
That is it for me tonight. Please feel free to add anything I left out.
The dialog was way over my head so what follows is what I thought I saw and what I interpreted.
We resume with Emilia and Leo in the manicomio courtyard where she is screaming that Leo get away from her. The orderlies grab her as she cries, demanding they leave her alone. The evil doctora intervenes as Leo chases after them as reprehensible Roberta ,hidden inside, watches the unfolding drama, smiling viciously.
Just as Sebas, Zaira, Gael and Tigre arrive, Emilia flies around the corner, distraught, overwrought, firmly in the grasp of the orderlies. Tigre is beside himself.
Orlando and Jenny are experiencing some afterglow, he telling her how special list night was. He is shirtless and I am melting. 😊 He touches her face gently and holds her hand as tender kisses ensue. I believe she says something about their fathers (?), if anyone can explain further, kindly do so.
The evil doctora tries to poison Leo’s mind, telling him Emilia suffers from fantasies and is violent. Leo seems unconvinced, particularly about the violent part. With a grunt of pain, he gets up.
Emilia is strapped into her bed screaming about Nico as the orderlies prepare to sedate her. Leo gets Emilia’s family up to speed. Sebas says the attorney was paid off (?) Sebas and Leo do some antler bashing. Eventually, the good nurse (looking very guilty) comes out and says Emilia can’t have any visitors. Tigre is in tears, Zaira kisses him and then Leo pushes Tigre out. Sebas goes charging out into the hall, looking desperate.
I understood very little of Roberta and the doctora’s discussion. The doctora gives the orderly a vial of something and he mentions “experiment”. “Animals” are also mentioned and then the doctora says Emilia is a “person”. If anyone can fill in here, please do.
Sebas recognizes one of the guards and jogs his memory as to how they know each other. He tells him Emilia is the love of his life.
Emilia is strapped by her hands and ankles to the bed as she comes to, muttering to herself, crying in prayer to the Virgin about her son.
Nico tells his reprehensible grandmother he is worried about his mother.
Leo is also shirtless being attended to by Sara.
Diana
“Five minutes” the guard tells silver tongued Sebas, who has somehow managed to gain entrance into Emilia’s room. He gently removes her arm straps and to my utter delight, starts singing to her, gently and lovingly. He puts his face on her hand as she rouses. “Sebas?” Yes he affirms, rubbing her hand and her shoulder. She looks as though she has seen an angel. Indeed she has.
Roberta and Fidel are together, she kisses him like a guppy, all suction. He calls her La Patrona. How romantic.
Doctora sets her evil plan in motion.
Leo, still wincing in pain, arrives home and at first Nico seems to reject him but finally turns in his seat, throwing his arms around him. Roberta and Fidel arrive and she asks her unloved son why he is there. Joaquina and Marijo are there as well.
In a very moving scene, Sebas professes his devotion as Emilia talks about Nico. The doctora walks by shouting orders. Emilia frets about Nico and her father as Sebas puts Emilia’s wrist restraints back on. Much to her fury, the doctora is locked out and calls for the guard (who let Sebas in), and finally manages to gain entrance. We see Sebas hiding under the gurney as Emilia’s wrist and foot straps are checked.
Leo holds his own with Roberta and Fidel, I believe he accuses Fidel of corruption. Leo wants Nico to return to his family as Nico looks uncertain. Nico recalls talking with Roberta and afraid to do anything that would put Emilia in danger, decides to stay there. Leo kneels and holds a very upset Nico before he leaves.
I won’t go into detail about the next horrifying scene where Emilia is being prepped for electric shock therapy.
Sebas rushes to the police station, grabbing Orlando. As they run out, the guard texts Roberta. She smiles evilly as she sees the picture.
Nico looks to Roberta for comfort who shows him a picture of Mau, his “father”. Alone in his bed, he cries for his mother.
Emilia cannot speak due to the guard in her mouth. Emilia is terrified as her muffled moans and frantic expression make very clear. The good nurse tries to talk the doctora out of proceeding but to no avail. The nurse injects her but takes the guard out of Emilia’s mouth. Emilia pleads for mercy…
We see Emilia’s shadow against the wall as the good nurse slouches outside of Emilia’s room, obviously in mental agony.
The two paddles are held aloft in the air and the gel is applied. Then, miraculously, the lights go out! We see the good nurse has turned the power off. With fortuitous timing, Orlando and Sebastian arrive, Orlando identifying himself as a policeman. He asks for Emilia just as she is wheeled past them. Sebas kneels and begs Emilia to wake up. The doctora asks questions including if Sebas is also a policeman. Orlando says no, he is a friend. Sadly, Emilia does not regain consciousness. “Te quiero” Sebas tells a comatose Emilia as the doctora stares darkly.
Jenny tells her parents she has had enough and is leaving. When Addled objects, she assures her mother that Orlando is a wonderful man. On that note, she turns on her heel and wheels her suitcases out. Later, Miriam kisses Addled. Perhaps someone cares. I do not.
Sara gets back finding Leo who is clearly out of it, sweating profusely.
Back at the manicomio, Emilia is now wide awake and sitting up as the livid doctora goes after the good nurse. I was furiously typing and didn’t see exactly what happened but the doctora ends up bloodied on the floor. Good.
And on that note, we fade to black.
Diana
Odd but I really enjoyed Felipa and Melitón sending the poems to Micaela. If only they had come across the poems in a different way. Looks like we are at a standstill until either Martina tells everyone about her illness or Ignacio recovers or dies. More mañana.
Jarifa, although many of this story’s puzzle pieces are firmly in place, there are some still needing to find their fit. Every night I learn so much from your carefully crafted recaps, what I saw but didn’t fully understand and more importantly, what I failed to see. You covered every overt and covert action and conversation perfectly.
I think (and hope) Ignacio pulls through. The unexpected bonding between Cecilia and Cass was natural and endearing.
“Paula calls Martina's doctor. He is out of town at a professional meeting”. I understand her concern but wonder what it was that she intended to say/ask. I doubt the doctor would have told her anything as he promised not to tell Martina’s sons. But even if he had been so inclined, I wonder if Mexico has anything similar to HIPPA?
“Rogelio complains to Paula that now Lucas wants to study music during his vacation. Paula sees it as a great idea” If Lucas had expressed interest in something in Rogelio’s wheelhouse, I am confident Rogelio would not have had the same reaction. The bottom line is that I do not believe he gives Paula’s career the respect she and it are due. The arts are as important and integral to our lives as any other profession. Rogelio needs to be further enlightened…
I had to smile at “Imelda tells Micaela what happened with Ignacio but nobody can tell Martina.” Perhaps that should have been conveyed to Fernando too as keeping his thoughts to himself has never been one of his strong points (provided he has them of course LOL). “Fernando …says it all happened because of her need to be an "independent" woman. (Does Andrea handle divorces?? )” was exactly right. I think Imelda is getting to the point of no return. I can’t feel sorry for Fernando, he brought it on himself.
I’m pulling for Micaela and Honorio to get together. It is so sweet that she is obviously tickled pink by the poems.
Including the scene where Andrea tells her new bf she needed to go home to talk to Martina was interesting. Could it be suspicious Luis does have a point? Otherwise, there was no need for that scene at all.
Lucas and Regina’s matching tops. Cute.(as I slightly roll my eyes) 😊
Diana
Diana, thanks so much. This was horrific and this episode was the first thing I watched in the morning. You said you need help with Spanish and I need help trying to understand why they are destroying Leo's character. Leo's tone when he talked to the doctora didn't seem to suggest he believed her, but he himself brought up cases where Emilia was violent. Sebas, meanwhile, actually did something to find out what was going on. So we have a scene where Sebas sings to Emilia and another one where Leo is with his ex. I don't care how handsome Leo is and that he can't believe the evilness of his mum or that he is suseptable to her manipulation. This has to be the first time I genuinely don't care about the suffering of a good character. Sebas did all in his power and the only thing Leo did was see Nico and fail to do anything really useful. The writers really dislike Leo's character. I don't see any other reason for making him so weak and naive. Why should E marry such a man in the end? Sorry for ranting, but this has to be some of the worst writing I've seen. The way I see it, your viewers have to want the main couple to end up together not just because you told them these people are in love, but because they help and support each other.
I like Jen and Orlando together precisely because they are both flawed and have the same issue. Here it's not the case of la protagonista having a supposedly devoted but useless galan whom the writers decided she should love. Orlando said that other people maybe able to go against someone like Fidel, but not him. Jenifer doesn't go on about it but suggests divide and concour might work as the evil ones are powerful togther. She wonders what would happen to their power if they are separated. What irritated me, though, was that Orlando was more concerned by the fact Sebas broke out into the hospital than by the fact E was going to be given electroshock therapy.
Roberta told that monster of a doctora to do her experiments on E. The doctora said she can't because E is a human being and there are procedures for these sorts of experiments. It appears she was lying because she ordered someone to inject E with something and was asked' wasn't your experiment only at the trial stage, doctora?' She said they had to try it on someone. Doctora also experesses fear that the good guys are going to ruin their plans, but roberta isn't very worried. They both tell us, which made me laugh btw, that Leo is the most dangerous. If he is the most dangerous, why is Sebas the one running around trying to help?
Fidel is apparently in love with Roberta. The good thing is that these two might have no loyalties if things get bad. Roberta certainly doesn't and I bet Fidel would save his own skin in the end.
Sara went to Mx but no one wants to take Emilia's case because it's really complicated and because F and R are involved. Really? Two people from a small town? Was she lying?
Miriam is stupid. I had some hope for her. I find it impossible to respect characters like that. I can tolerate someone like Orlando, but not a woman chasing after an asshole.
Addled doesn't love even his own daughters because he wasn't bothered his daughter was leaving or even deny he threatened her.
Marijo told Leo that Roberta is treating Nico as if he were Mauricio. Leo says she can't accept the fact M is dead. I do wonder if he had done something if M hadn't told him this was no good. I get a sense Leo tries to justify Roberta somehow or that he has more sympathy and understanding for her than for E. He wants to transfer E to a different hospital, but I think he does believe that evil doctor. I found this impossible to tolerate.
Martina with her 'life is unfair' speech got on my nerves. Life being unfair doesn't mean she can hurt a man she supposedly loves. I think what irritates me even more is that she hides her true motives behind supposedly good intentions and caring about Gabriel. Both things could be true, of course, but painting yourself as someone who only does things 'for the good of others' when it's not true is something Idespise. Martina generally seemed to be focused a lot on her own feelings so I dislike it that she is now kind of a martyr. Imelda, for example, is openly selfish. At least it's kind of obvious even when she tries to hide it. Yo and me must be her favourite pronouns, so I found it odd she was so scandalised by her mum's reaction. Beatrice's actions seem actually foolish, but she is just as selfish as Imelda. Only I think Imelda knows what's convenient for her. Beatrice is motivated by jealousy so doesn't think at all. She doesn't think about how her actions will affect her daughter, but Imelda is no angel as she was ready to use her kids to punish Fernando. So she'd better save her breath I'd say.
So now taking someone's letters to give them to someone else without the other person's permition is charming And will they make Honorio say he is actually grateful for the interference??
Diana, if only Melitón hadn't acted like just a jack*** in the previous episode, I could appreciate Micaela's enjoyment of the poems and attempt to get her together with Honorio so much more. Maybe, I will have to erase that goofy last episode from my mind. : ) "The bottom line is that I do not believe he gives Paula’s career the respect she and it are due. The arts are as important and integral to our lives as any other profession. Rogelio needs to be further enlightened…" You said it and are so right! At least Rogelio realized he had gone over the line with his snarky comment. I am hoping that he emerges with a new appreciation of what he obviously lacks. Thanks for always commenting on the costuming. I didn't notice the matching tops but will have to go and take a look.
waterlily, good take on Imelda. What you see is what you get with her. " Beatrice is motivated by jealousy so doesn't think at all." You can say that again. Ignacio could be dying and all she cares about is that he might not be around to fund the foundation that will elevate her social status. It is a "loser's circle" with the two of them.
Episode 55: Part 1 of 3
Marco insulted Bernarda by calling her a slut and accused her of not fighting for their relationship. She slapped him and threw it back at him that he wasn't man enough to stand up to his own father over their relationship. She called him a coward.
Maria Teresa reminded Rut that her father had friends in higher places than his. Rut tried gaslighting Maria Teresa, even saying that Santos' machete was drenched in her father's blood. She wasn't having it. In fact, she called him out on it.
Cris implored Santos to return to La Esperanza because of the Jackal's treatment. He showed him his hands saying that nobody had quit yet but things could not keep going on like this.
Bernarda continued the accusation and tried to explain her feelings to Marco. She had been in love with him and the one time with Esteban was long before their relationship. He would not believe her. This became a major argument which ended with her demanding that he leave.
Santos tried to explain to Cris why he could not return. He had promised Esteban he would not hurt his daughters and he intended to keep that promise.
Regina tried to tell Valentina she was strong enough to take this. Valentina was not convinced, saying that the worst of it was discovering that Maria Teresa was her sister. She had lost everything, worst of all was losing her father. She then truly began to suspect the identity of Regina's sperm donor.
Cris explained what he knew about Susi to Santos who speculated that this was related to the girl Esteban saw. Remedios arrived and Santos said that La Esperanza would not last under Marco [in both senses of the word].
At that moment Marco had a flashback to his father's threat to disown and disinherit him over Bernarda. [Who was that hot actor playing the younger Marco? We want to see more of him!] Adriana arrived and needled Marco about his thoughts of failure. He said that his father always demanded things be done his way and no other. She told him that his father had never told her he had a son until they were married. She was surprised when she came to the ranch. He told her not to worry; she wasn't the only one. He took his cigarette and shot glass and left the room. She took a breath and said “and the worst was having to share the inheritance with you. Imbecile.”
Rut and Norma argued first about Clemente playing detective, then about Santos.
Cris brought Susi some food but apparently in the process stood Genoveva up. She saw this and was upset, assuming that there was a thing going on.
Rut complained about Maria Teresa and Santos, ranting about the pressure he was under and still about the body having been in the flatbed of Santos' truck. As he got u and left the table Norma looked as though a light bulb was about to go on.
Susi still would not talk to the police. [Smart girl.] She told Cris about Irasema and Adriana and having been drugged. Grim was there when she regained consciousness. He was initially shocked and told her she could stay as long as she needed to.
Episode 55: Part 2 of 3
The next morning Valentina was still unwilling to talk to her mother. Bernarda brought up Regina's father and Valentina then told her to not make the same mistake with Regina while she still had time to avoid destroying her life.
Grim entered Trejo's office to tell him that the drawings sold well and could he get more of them. He handed over a wad of cash. [as we wonder how much he skimmed off the top]. Trejo said he would contact the artist as Grim left.
Santos returned to La Esperanza and tried to reassure the peóns.
Bernarda asked Regina about the surgery, then told her she would get the money. She said that her girls' happiness is the only important thing to her. There is a hint that she might accept Clemente after all.
Santos tried a pep talk which was ended when Marco showed up both his swagger and the Jackal.
Valentina went to see Maria Teresa about Santos. She wanted to know what happened in the city. Maria Teresa tried to tell her that there had been no intention on either side for anything serious. Valentina did not look like she believed this. She called herself a fool for having a thing for Santos now that she knew Santos had fallen for Maria Teresa upon her arrival.
Santo told Marco “These lands aren't yours” which provoked him to insults and the Jackal to draw his pistol on Santos. Marco pointed beyond himself and ordered Santos to leave. Santos left and Marco and the Jackal turned their attitude toward the others. Cris managed to sneak away when the Jackal's back was turned.
Valentina said that what she saw was not as Maria Teresa described. Maria Teresa said she was now with Marco but Valentina told her that Santos did not want to come between them knowing they were sisters.
Grim told Rut that their clients were not happy. He had to close the brothel and sell what he could to cover their losses. Moving the booze was also affected. Rut explained that there wasn't anything to do at the moment and that clients needed to be patient. He himself had to keep a low profile and they could not be seen together.
Maria Teresa told Valentina that now she was the only family she had. That Esteban had accepted her as soon as he found out she was his daughter. Valentina was not welcoming of this because of the fling Maria Teresa had with Santos took him away from her.
Cris told Santos that things were getting worse because of the Jackal.
Maria Teresa told Nani this whole thing was incredible. It was changing her world to suddenly have a sister. She had been planning to sell the property and go away but now that would be difficult. Nani, The Eternal Optimist, said she would find the answer and it was a question of time.
Episode 55: Part 3 of 3
Marco went to the stables demanding to know which of Bernarda's daughters was Esteban's. Valentina came forward. Marco tried to provoke her but Bernarda's stare ran him off.
Santos went to see Maria Teresa to tell her Marco was treating the workers badly. She asked him to return.
Valentina thought like us, that Marco could be Regina's sperm donor. Regina was not sure she wanted to know. Valentina understood [as did we] and told Regina that no matter what happens she would always have her.
Santos explained to Maria Teresa why he could not stay. He asked her to think about what Esteban would have wanted. [Correct me if I'm wrong here but I got the impression that Santos' parents died when he was seriously young and he was mostly raised by Remedios. ¡Ayudame!]
Genoveva came out with cold drinks but was cool to Cris because of Susi. He was sufficiently clueless even as she hinted about this.
Trejo called Clemente to give him the good news about his drawings which had been sold locally. Clemente said he would come back as soon as he could.
Valentina told Regina about her talk with Maria Teresa. Regina told her about her conversation with their mother about her possible surgery. Valentina told her she would get the money for this. Regina said she could not wait to hear her voice, that it must be as pretty as she was. They hugged.
Marco went to Maria Teresa saying that La Esperanza is better than ever [by whose standards?] It had been chaos before. Maria Teresa looked a little doubtful. She told him she wanted to get out there to work in the morning. He resisted this but she won.
Valentina held Regina's hand as they backed their mother into a corner for the truth.
Marco said this was the moment to sell him the ranch so she could get back to the life she had before. Maria Teresa told him she had changed her mind knowing what her father would have wanted. He looked as though he knew he was going to get bad news. She stared at him as he took his hat off the desk, not meeting her gaze.
Bernarda told her daughters about herself and Marco [repeating stuff in previous scenes] and that Marco was not Regina's father. Nor was she her birth mother.
5 Episodes Remaining (?) All scenes in episodes so far since #45 have been edited into a different order. Since the finale date has not yet been announced there could be more than 5 episodes to come.
Waterlily, thank you for putting so much in perspective and for clarifying very important dialogue.
“Marijo told Leo that Roberta is treating Nico as if he were Mauricio. Leo says she can't accept the fact M is dead” hit the proverbial nail on the head. Exactly!
“Leo's tone when he talked to the doctora didn't seem to suggest he believed her, but he himself brought up cases where Emilia was violent”. That was upsetting to read especially as I can’t imagine what instances he might have given. It’s certainly true that Emilia has had several righteous bouts of anger, but with good cause. The angriest I’ve seen her (that I can recall) was when Mau made the admission he’d raped her; but of course that would be anyone and everyone’s reaction. There is a wide chasm of difference between angry and violent.
Sebas shone in every single scene. Resourceful, supportive, loving and staunchly loyal. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Diana
Diana and waterlily, thank you so much for the recap. What a hard episode to watch . Brutal.
I think that Oswaldo is doing the best be can with the lines, storyline, and direction that he has been given. He is trying so hard to be a strong, calm galan with no help from the writers .He has already been through this manicomia\ electric shock scenario in " Perdonna." I love him . He looks a lot like a student I had .
Did it seem as though the doctora was looking at Leo like he was a tall drink of water when she was talking to him?
Now lets talk about Seb....wow. Wow. This guy is playing the heck out of this role . He is always right on point. The expressions on his face and his body language always telegraph his complete devotion to Em and his willingness to defend and protect Em at any cost. He seems to be the kind of guy who has accrued a lot of support and friendship through the type of person he is and the life he has led. He is pragmatic and clever . He saw that guard and immediately went to him for help . He has boots of connections to this community , unlike Leo , who left for the big city. What a dynamic performance reminiscent of Gael in " Invencible" stealing hearts away from galan Dave.
Is Karyme L. The patient with the bad wig lurking around Em? I hope Em does not get electric shock . Do they still do that ?
The guy playing Orlando is using this role to audition for a balance role .
Has Sara really given up on wounded Leo , or is she just restratigizing ?
Thanks once again, Jarifa, for your notes from the couch. They fill in all the things that I miss.
I was so proud of Fernando for taking responsibility and saying it was his fault Ignacio got shot. But then he blew it when he went home and told Imelda it was her fault!
Lucas’ romance with Regina could have been cute but now they have them, mostly Regina, acting like possessive teenagers. She’s trying to keep him from doing something he wants to do. And it’s during his vacation! I assumed the matching shirts, or sweaters, was the school uniform. I could be wrong. Two of my grandson’s went to public elementary schools that required certain colors of polos and khaki pants. Now the middle school that one started this year is requiring it, only different colors of shirts!
Beatrice is really a horrible woman. It’s all about her. I wonder if there is anything planned for her in the end. She will be pleased with Martina’s Alzheimer diagnosis.
I don’t like the way Melitón and Felipa are sharing the poems, or the way they got them, but if it gets Micaela and Honorio together I’ll be happy.
I’m sure Ignacio will live, maybe he will confess all. It does seem he will be with Cass. I liked Camila and Cass forming a friendship.
Liz
Jarifa, thank you for bringing us another wonderful report that caught every moment .
One thing I like about this show is the love and support the brothers give each other no matter what happens.
It is wise for Martina to write down her memories . I think she and Gabriel will get back together , and he will stay by her side. Didn't the leading lady in " The Notebook" have Alzeimers?
OT...Liz , some public schools in our area have tried uniforms . I had a friend whose daughter asked to go to Catholic school because she didn't like all the comments about clothes in her public school. When I went to school, we had a pretty strict dress code, but even I taught in a senior high school, there was no dress code , and I saw a lot of interesting choices . I discovered while teaching foreign students that most countries have uniforms for students in public schools.
Diana, I'm glad what I wrote was helpful. One of the violent scenes Leo mentioned was when Emilia thought he was trying to steal her son. The doctora said something along the lines that patients can get violent sort of out of the blue because 'their fantacies direct their actions'. So now E is a fantasist who can't separate reality from fantasy. I hope that makes it somewhat clearer. Leo mentioned some other scene, but I can't remember it and don't know what he meant.
Roberta told Fidel that she will make sure it is recognised that Emilia is...I can't remember what the term for this is, but she meant that E is mentally unstable and incapable of taking decisions on her own. So she not only will make sure it's legally recognised, but that she actually is incapable. She went on about how she wants the doctor to make E suffer so much that she begs for death and R still wants to be the one who decides if E is granted her wish. I forgot to mention this part. But I hope things improve tomorrow because I can't take more of this.
I hope Weirdo watches these episodes only when she recovers because the last ones would be enough to make anyone feel rather sick. I never thoughtthings would take such a turn.
Susan, oh don't break my heart by mentioning poor Gael. I forgot what a mess invencible was. And it was also disturbing, just like this one. What's going on?
Thanks Urban, I enjoyed this episode and the recap. The good guys seem to be in place to make some gains.
I was really surprised that Grim actually sold Clement’s drawings. And that he gave Trejo the money. I’m hoping he didn’t keep any, hoping he felt it wouldn’t be good to cheat a policeman.
I knew, as we all probably did, that Genoveva would see Suzi and get the wrong idea. Hopefully with Santos back they can get Suzi to talk to someone, maybe the guy in Mexico City.
I think MT is starting to realize Marco is not how he appears, well he appears to me as someone that would steal from his grandmother. But MT has had blinders on. Hope she’s beginning to see what he’s really like. I wish she hadn’t told him she was going to be with the workers the next day, I would have liked her to see what kind of bosses replaced Santo.
I was disappointed in Valentina having no interest in being a sister and getting to know MT. But she’s young and broken-hearted. Hoping she’ll change her attitude.
Well, another mystery! I guess we’ll never know who Regina’s parents are. That could have made Bernarda keep Valentina’s father a secret. I’m assuming Regina was abandoned because she was deaf.
Liz
"So now E is a fantasist who can't separate reality from fantasy". OMG thank you waterlily for this and all the other cringeworthy details.
Roberta "...wants the doctor to make E suffer so much that she begs for death and R still wants to be the one who decides if E is granted her wish". Sometimes not understanding what is said is a blessing. It certainly was in this case.
Susan Seb's "...dynamic performance reminiscent of Gael in " Invencible" stealing hearts away from galan Dave" was exactly right! Orlando has the looks to be a galan, but I'd like to see him in a role requiring more passion. That said, Seb definitely deserves a galan role. I always believe every word and emotion from Sebas, believability can't be overrated..
Diana
Thanks, Jarifa. So many different storylines, but you pull them all together.
Rogelio and Fernando are both out in left field with their wives aren't they? Guys, think before you speak.
Lucas and his girlfriend are getting on my nerves. Hey kids, you've got the technology and the dough to stay in touch while Lucas is away. Quit your whining.
Great that Micaela loves Honorio's poetry, but annoying that Felipa and Meliton have inserted themselves.
Just about everybody is annoying me except for Martina, Gabriel, and Cecilia and Cass.
Urban, your perfect perspective and marvelous detailing dispersed my clouds of doubt and confusion on many of last night’s events.
“Santos tried a pep talk which was ended when Marco showed up both his swagger and the Jackal” was one of my favorite lines.
Bernarda was right; Marco is the quintessential coward. What nerve to try and turn things around saying Bernarda didn’t fight hard enough for them! How pathetic. While Marco’s father does seem terrifying, Marco lacked the gumption to strike out on his own. Love wasn’t enough, the dinero was stronger. In the flashback, I think the younger Marco was being played by Diego Amozurrutia.
“Valentina then told her to not make the same mistake with Regina while she still had time to avoid destroying her life” was overly harsh. I realize Valentina has had more than her share of devastating news but she has no right to take it out on her mother.
“Regina said she could not wait to hear her voice, that it must be as pretty as she was” was so sweet.
I never saw Bernarda not being Regina’s biological mother coming. I can’t wait to find out the story.
Santos and Maria Teresa are both miserable. I can’t imagine how they are going to find their way back to each other, especially with Valentina’s recent heartbreaks.
Urban, I think there are more than 5 episodes left. I’m guessing this will go another 8-9 episodes but who knows?
Diana
Urban, I am well aware of the various "creative" edits they do for these novelas depending on where they are being shown and what the "commercial " needs may be. It is a real pain.
Gracias, Jarifa and well done.
Count me in with also being annoyed with the kids' issues.
I did research the HIPPA equivalent in Mexico a few years ago and they do have this but I'm not sure how far back it goes. Inappropriate disclosures still happen in these stories and they make me very angry. However, what else can we expect from Martina over the issues of disclosure to her children? After an entire adult life of being in control it's ingrained in her to keep that up to whatever degree possible.
Life isn't fair. but it does deal out karma.
Beatriz is now seriously toxic. At this stage and with fewer than 20 episodes left will her husband find out that Imelda isn't his?
On the wardrobe front I liked Imelda's colorful skirt.
There is plenty of time left to seesaw on whether Ignacio lives or dies. I have no expectations at this point.
Liz, "I was so proud of Fernando for taking responsibility and saying it was his fault Ignacio got shot. But then he blew it when he went home and told Imelda it was her fault!" He is a machista no matter how you cut it. He would have to be to come up the convoluted logic that Imelda was to blame. I would love to see Imelda free of him or any man, for that matter, with a lucrative career of her own so she would not have to depend on her family or anyone.
Susan, "One thing I like about this show is the love and support the brothers give each other no matter what happens." ITA it does show how families can stick together in good and bad times.
Niecie, "Lucas and his girlfriend are getting on my nerves. Hey kids, you've got the technology and the dough to stay in touch while Lucas is away. Quit your whining.' Thank your for posting what I was thinking. Yes, there are plenty of annoying characters at this point of the novela and the list grows and changes with every episode for me.
'I think MT is starting to realize Marco is not how he appears, well he appears to me as someone that would steal from his grandmother" had me chuckling Liz. Good one!
"I’m assuming Regina was abandoned because she was deaf" never occurred to me. You may well be very right!
Diana
Urban, it's funny that it didn't occur to me carma came to pay Martina a visit until I saw your comment. I thought of this in terms of it being the problem old people face and more of it being one of televisa's 'let's inform the viewers' plots. But then Martina doesn't think she has done anything wrong in her life. She talked about making a lot of mistakes, but maybe what she really thinks is that she was justified in whatever she chose to do. She sees this as life being unfair to her when she's been so good. She loved talking about how she cacrificed so much for her family whenver she felt they weren't listening to her. But she somehow never seemed like a happy person to me, even before she learnt of her husband's infidelity. Though maybe I'm just assuming a control freak isn't happy and that's not the case here.
Gracias, Waterlily & Diana.
Dr. Mengele has a female counterpart I see. Unfathomable. Best description yet. Is she the first of her kind in telenovelas? The look in her eyes combined with her awful buck teeth made her somewhat scary on general principal. Tonight we'll see if she survived that knockout.
It looks like electroshock is being added to the cliche list. [rolls eyes] Roberta should apply for the job of executive assistant to Satan. She sets the standards for this.
I still don't trust Sara and Leo is a fool to forgive her for her actions and her alliance with Roberta.
Poor Nico is a prisoner now.
Diana and Waterlily, mil gracias for your recaps, yesterday's and today's. I'm feeling better now. Thanks for your kind words, you two and Susan. I admit I laughed at "I hope Weirdo watches these episodes only when she recovers because the last ones would be enough to make anyone feel rather sick." Thanks, waterlily, I'll be sure never to watch them! Lol
Geez, where to start... The OG galán was also annoying at this time of the novela but not Leo level annoying. He tried to talk to the OG protagonista and took this much harder that Leo. Although I (still) haven't forgiven him for getting the OG Sara pregnant at this part, overall he wasn't THAT annoying. He said he will always love Gabriela, she is his love of his life, even though things took that turn. I never really liked him but at least he didn't bring up cases to support the "Emilia is aggressive" theory.
Oh well, this was the point of the novela in which I disliked almost everyone, even the main antagonist, because she had a similar viewpoint to Roberta. It gets better after some episodes.
Seb should stay with Emi at the end. Leo doesn't deserve her. Saying "I love you" to someone doesn't make it true. You have to show it, to prove it. Seb is doing exactly that, while Leo does the opposite.
I'm SO over Míriam. I just hope she doesn't stay with Seb at the end, because she doesn't deserve him.
Btw, I still find Berta's reaction odd. I mean, you FINALLY stand up to Addled but then you just... Let the mistress live in the house and don't do anything? Honestly, she should have just divorced him.
I'm starting to be seriously mad at the writers. I hope this doesn't turn into another Invencible.
Urban, "Roberta should apply for the job of executive assistant to Satan. She sets the standards for this." Lol this was perfect!
Waterlily, control freaks are chronically unhappy or they wouldn't always be moving the goalposts.
Think of a parent always demanding that her child get better grades. When three B's and two A's becomes all A's she demands A+'s and participation on the football team. From there there's no higher to go and she will still demand something beyond. The love to complain and get off on punishing for "deficiencies." It's what makes them feel good. It's very rare for them to change.
Glad you're feeing better, Weirdo.
I agree with you about the writing. Leo should have said that Emilia's anger was more than justified.
Now that we got this far on disclosure we have to find out about Regina's parentage.
If she was found as a newborn infant it may not yet have been possible for the average person to determine that she was deaf. Bernarda can probably determine deafness in farm animals. If she was abandoned at a year or more there are tests that can be done by a pediatric audiologist. A friend of mine had to have one of his children tested at that age.
The talk about Santos' parents made me wonder if they were Regina's parents. If they died within a few days after Regina was born, which would make him her brother. That c/would put the kibosh on their relationship.
Of course we know little about Adriana's backstory, so...
I've enjoyed reading all the comments .
At the end, Addled was asleep on a sofa and Miriam came in and unbuttoned his shirt and started kissing him ..Wait? What? Ugh! . Were they in his house or her house ? Oddly, there was a picture of a pregnant woman in a fame on the table next to them. I dont like Miriam and she doesn't deserve to end up with Seb if she still wants to undress and kiss Addled. ...p.s. Why ?
I noticed that both Leo and Seb are always going to Orlando and dragging him somewhere to help Em, but he never does anything . Ezekiel took a photo of Seb and Orlando leaving and sent it to Roberta, who is now starting to look like an evil robot .
The scene of Seb talking and singing to Em and kissing her hand ...wow. This guy actually does things. He doesn't just talk. The guard who knows Seb and let him into Em's room tried to stall the doctora from getting into the room .Seb hid beneath Em's bed.
Notes from the couch . . .
MELITÓN should get the husband of the year award. Believe it or not! He runs into his acquaintance who tells him that his cousin will be back in town next week and he will put him into contact with him so he can go pick oranges. Melitón tells him he spoke with his wife and is no longer interested. His pal said he never thought that he was one of those guys who had to ask for PERMISSION from his wife to do something. Melitón says she is pregnant and hr is not leaving her alone. HIs pal calls him HENPECKED. Melitón admits he is henpecked then and is proud of it. A man has to evolve and not be backward. He loves and respects his wife and wants to help her. He walks away to calls of "henpecked!" but he doesn't care. (Now, if he just hadn't stolen those poems or meds . . . LOL)
IGNACIO survives. It is touch and go for a while but he makes it. He is placed in a coma and undergoes neurological testing. The doctor says it appears there was no brain damage but they will not know for sure until they take him out of his coma which they do. He is fine. The doctor takes him out of the ICU and places him in a regular room. He will be staying a couple weeks until his blood pressure has been stabilized.
Unfortunately, Ignacio has reverted to his pre-therapy personality of victimhood and self-hatred. Cecilia stops by to see him. He asks why she came. She says she is there seeing how life gave him a second chance. He calls that corny. Couldn't she come up with anything better? She asks why he is so angry. He says he isn't angry. He just doesn't want to see anyone worrying about him. He tells her to leave but not before reminding her that Camilo is the ONLY thing that connects them.
Ignacio refuses to wear an oxygen mask. It is uncomfortable. He also tells the nurse that doesn't want want any visits but Fernando slips in. Ignacio is not happy to see him. Fernando asks him why he is so angry. He is only looking for answers. Ignacio asks what he wants. Fernando wants to know who he is for Ignacio. Ignacio risked his life to save him. Fernando saw Ignacio as the enemy then Ignacio ended up protecting him like a brother. Ignacio makes it clear that it was nothing special. He saved Fernando just like he would have saved anybody else. Ignacio asks if he still wants to be his brother. Ignacio says the Iturbides are a strange fussy kind of family. It is hard being a part of and then not being a part of their family. If Fernando wants to do him a favor, he can leave. Fernando leaves.
Ignacio is unpleasant with Cass, also. He accuses her of being there with him only out of pity. She tells him that she is there out of love. They are together during good times and bad times. He tries to get her to go to work. He doesn't want her ignoring he work because of him. She says she won't. She has her laptop with her and with that she won't miss a beat. She has no plans of leaving.
MARTINA announces to her whole family at supper that she has broken off her engagement with Gabriel. She gives them no other details. Luis calls Gabriel to ask what happened with his mother. Gabriel says he wishes that he knew. Everyone is bewildered. Even Lucas is upset that Gabriel won't be his grandpa. The staff is also shocked. Micaela concludes that something very serious must be going on. Rogelio asks Paula's opinion about Martina's decision. Paula thinks that Martina is hiding something and it is serious.. Rogelio agrees. She also thinks it has more to do with Martina than Gabriel. Paula asks Micaela about how Martina seems to her. Micaela says she has been strange. A couple of days ago she said she was going to the foundation but didn't want anyone to take her. She looked very nervous when she left. Micaela thought she was headed somewhere else. Paula says she is going to see her. Micaela informs her that Micaela is not there. She went out and wouldn't say where she was going.
LUCAS Is out of sorts and Paula asks him why. Lucas says that his father doesn't believe in him. He told him that he wanted to take a music course during vacation and his father said they would talk about it later. Paula blames it on catching his father at a bad moment. Lucas needs to give him some time. Lucas says that his father has things that are more important than him. Paula explains that his father like her own did, works so hard to support his family and so Lucas will have a good future. With tears in his eyes, Lucas admits that he misses his mother so very much.. He asks Paula if she thinks that his mother is living somewhere in heaven. Paula is sure about that and that Lucas can talk to his mother whenever he wants. He can ask his mother to send him signs so he knows she is with him.
MARTINA works on creating her memory book complete with photos. We see her remembering serving her father coffee and them talking about her good grades. She wants to come to his office to learn abut his business every day after school. He agrees. He thinks it would be a good idea for her to learn the business to help see who will take it over when he dies. She says he is never going to die. He explains that is impossible and he starts to show her how to log in expenditures for the company. She glues his photo into her memory book.
Next, she turns her attention to each of her sons. Rogelio is her oldest. She confides in him. She also she gave him a life full of responsibility. He never disappointed her and only disobeyed her once but now she is glad that he did. Her next oldest son is Fernando. He is a time bomb. He has a difficult personality. He gets in a bad mood and then explodes. He is all Iturbide. She has had a problem with him in that that he has never been able to show love. Lucas is the third oldest and with his asthma , she felt that he had to live in a bubble. He isn't like his other brothers. He doesn't have problems with anyone. Maybe his personality is a result of his illness but he protects the equilibrium of everyone in the house. He is the guardian. Marco is her youngest and she admits that she spoiled him. He got all of her attention. Due to that, he has the most tools to be successful of any one of her sons. He is the most decided and the strongest. He was born to be a winner. She glues a photo of each of her sons across from her description.
The next morning, Paula drops Lucas off at school. He waits until the coast is clear and runs out of the school. The principal calls Rogelio to tells him that Lucas is not in class. Rogelio and Paula go to the school. The principal shows him the security tape where Lucas goes onto the school property but then runs out when nobody is looking. Paula thinks that she knows where he is. Paula and Rogelio find him at the cemetery talking to his mother about his dilemma following her direction telling him to never give up his dreams. His dream is to be a musician. Rogelio apologize to Lucas for not seeming that he was interested in his things. He is worried to see him going off abroad on his own at such a young age. Rogelio promises him to really think about what he wants to do but now needs to get back to work. He asks Lucas to never forget that he loves him. After he is gone, Lucas asks why they don't trust him. Paula has an idea. She knows they have excellent summer classes in Mexico City. Why not start there? Lucas is all excited.
PAULA hears Cass say that 20 years ago she never thought that Eva would be a mother. Paula asks her about that. Cass says she knew her way back when but hadn't really kept up with her and ran into her recently. Later, Paula asks Eva about knowing Cass for so long but never telling her anything about it. Conveniently, either her baby or Camilo starts crying and Eva has an excuse to evade the question. Ceciiia is also curious when she saw Cass get nervous when Paula asked her where she knew Eva from. Cass says her being nervous had nothing to do with the question. She just had so many things on her mind. . .
LUIS tells Paula that he feels strange seeing Andrea with another person. Paula thinks he is still in love with her. They both laugh. She is sure he will find his answer. Luis calls Andrea to invite her out to eat. She thinks it would be a great opportunity for him to meet Marcelo and his cousin. Luis is aggravated as that is not the outing he was planning but he accepts. When he gets there, it seems like Andrea and Marcelo are trying to set him up with cousin Cati. Mid-meal, Luis excuses himself claiming he has a lot to get done.
IMELDA and FERNANDO have reached a junction in their relationship unknown to him. She doesn't know why he has to send so much time at the hospital. There are two women there for Ignacio. She reminds him of all the damage Ignacio caused the family. Truth be told, Fernando feels guilty but he blames her one more time for Ignacio getting shot. She tells him that she has the solution for all of their arguments and lack of respect: a divorce. Imelda informs Martina of her decision. All Martina is concerned about is Imelda turning her grandchildren against their father or the family. Imelda says she won't.
JJ Is having a bad run with the Iturbide family. Imelda misses a meeting and then gives him the excuse of nobody reminding her . He asks if she does not have a calendar of her own? She apologizes and says she was taking care of the kids and her husband was at the hospital. JJ suggests that she stay at home and take care of the kids. Later, Rogelio tells him he cannot make a meeting because Lucas is missing. JJ agrees to cover for him but mumbles that the Iturbides are one problem under another.
BLANCA toasts (with Jamaica tea) with Felipa and Micaela to one of her designs that is going to be published in a national magazine. That is going to help with her getting a scholarship and beyond!
MICAELA is reading another love poem as Honorio comes into the kitchen.
LAST SCENE
After Luis has challenged his mother to not hate Ignacio after he saved Fernando and since he is their brother, Martina shows up in Ignacio's hospital room. Ignacio asks to what does he owe the Monarca of Morelia inconveniencing herself enough to visit whom she hates the most in the world. Martina seems a bit surprised by his greeting.
Please feel free to add anything I left out.
Jarifa, this was a masterful short story, masquerading as a recap. I hung on every well written word.
“Unfortunately, Ignacio has reverted to his pre-therapy personality of victimhood and self-hatred” exactly encapsulated what occurred. His dismissive, condescending anger tinged with bitterness was difficult to watch. You captured every scene with Ignacio to perfection. He certainly gave new meaning to waking up on the wrong side of the bed.
Watching Martina remembering brief shadows of the past was so sad. She was so thoughtful in her honest but loving evaluation of each of her sons. However, while it is important to record her memories, she should be spending as much time as possible with her family as time is growing short.
When Imelda tells Martina of her plans to divorce Fernando (heaven knows why it’s taken so long), “all Martina is concerned about is Imelda turning her grandchildren against their father or the family”. Well, at least some things don’t change.
I didn’t understand what happened at Luis’ dinner party so thank you for explaining. I think he and Andrea are going to reconcile, otherwise there would be no need to introduce Marcelo at this late date.
On a lighter note, I loathed Imelda’s tiny bun….is she unintentionally emulating JJ?? 😊 They both need a good snipping with a sharp pair of shears.
I had to laugh that JJ’s patience with the family is starting to ebb. It does seem that there hasn’t been a full solid day of work in some time.
I enjoyed Blanca’s success and sweet smiles from Micaela reading another poem.
Martina’s beautiful feminine blue blouse had several rich textures and full slightly ballooned sleeves. Paula’s burgundy leather (?) jacket was another fashion fave.
Diana
Jenifer and Zaira talked nonsense in this episode. Zaira said 'oh but he loves you and was upset when he saw you at the hospital'. Woman, everyone was horrified by that scene, so should she marry you all? Leonardo is completely useless. They put him out of action to make things even worse? The person responsible for these episodes should be sacked. Then Jenifer gives the stupidest advice of the evening,' hermanita, if you love Leo, fuck Emilia and the fact she is in danger and I know she doesn't deserve it, he can love you again.' I don't know if she or Orlando is worse. I have some hope for him. But Jen can go to hell. I saw previews for the next episode and it appears the doctora is back in the scene. Haven't we had enough of her and that hospital? So Leo won't save Emilia. I don't understand the writers at all and keep watching this as if it were an unavoidable train crash. It's awful and you know it is, but you can't turn away. But what's the point of having a useless galan I still don't understand. It's like a different version of invencible: the other guy gets things done and they deliberately ruin Leo's chances.
Miriam gets third place medal for being stupid enough to think Addled was still going to give her 'her place' She should have teamed up with his wife just to get revenge on him. At least this would have made things interesting instead of making her look stupid. Why the hell did she say at one point he has to give her all she asks if she's the one with money? Wake up,everyone! Time to get things done! And Sara deserves to end up getting a taste of what E goes through. Otherwise her stupid brain won't learn anything. I thought being withOrlando was making Jen a better person. She is flawed enough without making her seem insufferable.
When Paula and Rog the frog were in the principal's office, Paula said Lucas 2felt his father didn't care about his interests, Rog the frog said that now what she said makes him feel bad. I mean, is no one allowed to even mention things he did wrong, like ever? This quality of his drives me up the wall. I fear the writers aregoing to abandon this character flaw if it won't turn up again.
What is up with Ignacio?
Why is JJ so mad? There are all kinds of emergencies. Rog the frog constantly attended the meetings when he worked for JJ. JJ seemed kind of useless because Rog was always the main participant/the necessary one.
Martina seems to have admitted she didn't know how to show love to Fernando. Or did she mean he didn't know how to do it? I wonder when exactly she realised what the problem was and why she didn't do anything about it. When she wrote about Rog the frog, it did feel as though he was her favourite in some sense. She spoilt Marco? Really? She was just as controling with him as with the rest. I wonder how that spoiling manifested itself because the only thing I remember was that she blamed Blanca when Marco slept with her. I bet she would have done the same regardless of which of her sons had been in such a situation.
So Martina's father taught her about his business and later forced her to marry a man she didn't love? That's a huge contrast. I thought he'd tell her business is for men, given that he was all for arranged marriage.
Episode 56: Part 1 of 3
Bernarda told Regina she was a gift from God. There was a flashback to a younger Bernarda finding baby Regina near the river. She discovered later that Regina was deaf and was determined to protect her. Regina thought her birth parents didn't want her because she was deaf. Bernarda told her that there were many reasons why people abandon children but they have each other. She hugged both girls.
Cris had trouble pouring from a pitcher because of the condition of his hands, He and Susi talked about her talking to MT about the situation.
Santos and Remedios talked about his situation. He was still determined to keep his distance from MT and Valentina.
Valentina realized that Bernarda was a brave and strong woman for having her and Regina. The revelations have not changed any of their feelings about each other. The girls were in a better mood after this.
Marco ordered that the peóns of La Esperanza were to do double shifts the next day. He was hell-bent on breaking their loyalty to Santos. [If he really meant that he's doing the opposite of what he should do.]
Cris went to Remedios about Susi and told her everything he knew about this, including Adriana's involvement. Remedios wanted to reveal all because no woman deserved this fate. [Recapper's Note: Especially at the hands of another woman.]
Rut was his usual unpleasant self over breakfast. Norma finally had had it and said she would leave him. He obviously did not care.
Remedios confronted Ariana at La Soledad. Adriana pulled the Class Card [which must have been printed with invisible ink] and ordered her to leave. We must hope that Remedios didn't sign her death warrant by declaring she would not be silent. She promised she would denounce her.
MT told Valentina to come with her to look over the ranch.
Adriana told Irasema about Remedios' threats and said she was going to Rut for help.
The Jackal started picking on Cris.
MT told Valentina they would be doing the walking tour together as they both get Santos out of their systems.
Clemente went to Trejo who gave him the money and plenty of encouragement. Trejo cleared his throat at Clemente's questions about the murder of Esteban.
Episode 56: Part 2 of 3
Adriana took her Damsel in Distress act to Rut's office. They started kissing. Rut picked up the phone and told his secretary to see that nobody bothered him.
Clemente gave Trejo a drawing he made from Trejo's description of Vanessa. Trejo teared up as he shook Clemente's hand.
Both MT and Valentina said this was weird but they would get used to it. Marco showed up and MT realized he was very hostile toward Valentina.
Rut took off his jacket and Adriana started opening her dress as she told him about Remedios. As they touched again Norma walked in on them. She slapped Adriana.
Marco continued his anti-Santos propaganda [Did he read the collected works of Josef Goebbels?] but Valentina contradicted him before walking off. MT defended her.
Norma told the illicit ones off, slapped Rut, and walked out. No nooky took place after this; Adriana covered her boobage and left.
Marco tried to distract MT from work by suggesting an otherwise impromptu date. She declined.
Adriana vented to Irasema who told her that she now had Rut all to herself as Norma would never forgive him.
Norma went home and cried. She started emptying Rut's closet and dragged out a suitcase [Maybe she saw Waiting to Exhale]. Clemente came in and she told him about his father's pecadillo. She felt like a fool. He replied that his father was the fool for not valuing her. They hugged.
Genoveva brought sandwiches for the guys and this finally ended with Cris knowing that Genoveva was jealous of Susi.
Rut went home and shouted for Norma. She ordered him to leave. He refused, insisting that this was his house, and raised his hand to hit her. Clemente entered and Rut shoved Nornma, who fel on the floor.
Valentina told her mother that Marco was an opportunist. He was lying about the workers and both of them knew it. They were watching him during this conversation and he noticed that.
There were a few fisticuffs and many ugly words between Rut and Clemente.
Genoveva was crying as she told Nani about the problem with Cris.
Episode 56: Part 3 of 3
Marco was trying to BS MT as Lawyer Villalobos arrived. MT made the obligatory introductions and Marco left the study. Villalobos handed a file to MT.
Rut became even more insulting and Norma told him off. She then demanded that he leave. Before he left he said “You'll be sorry.”
Villalobos rose to leave, saying he will take care of everything. MT looked in the file and found a letter from her father.
Remedios enlisted Camila's help and spoke of the danger.
MT went to Bernarda's house with the deed to it and a checque for Valentina. She also had the same for Santos. It was her father's wish.

CORRECTION: JJ Last sentence: JJ agrees to cover for him but mumbles that the Iturbides are one problem AFTER another.
Thanks, Diana. "On a lighter note, I loathed Imelda’s tiny bun….is she unintentionally emulating JJ?? 😊 They both need a good snipping with a sharp pair of shears." made me laugh and we need more laughs in this one presently. I hadn't even noticed. "I had to laugh that JJ’s patience with the family is starting to ebb. It does seem that there hasn’t been a full solid day of work in some time." Exactly. I always have to marvel how telenovela characters spend their work days leaving early, arriving late if they arrive at all because of personal problems. Now to the serious. " However, while it is important to record her memories, she should be spending as much time as possible with her family as time is growing short." I wonder how long it will be until she tells everyone what is going on with her or if she will have to be caught doing something odd like losing her memory for an extended period of time and that will clue everyone in. I do understand, though, her taking time for herself to get used to her diagnosis before informing everyone else.
waterlily, "So Martina's father taught her about his business and later forced her to marry a man she didn't love? That's a huge contrast. I thought he'd tell her business is for men, given that he was all for arranged marriage." That was a very interesting fact that came out. Looks like there are no absolutes in human behavior.
Urban, take this for what it is worth but on Zap2it, Tuesday is the last day for Tierra that they have listed with a numbered episode: #60. It is still listed as a new episode after that but there is no #. I was looking at the schedule because I am curious to what is going to follow Tierra but no such luck.
Great work, Jarifa Gracias una vez mas.
I don't think that Martina was entirely out of line with her concern about Imelda's children being turned against their father's family. She's had several hints of Beatriz's attitude and may also be flashing back to past whining of Imelda's.
To another point her memory of her father could be slightly distorted because of Alzheimer's. She was an only child so it made sense for him to teach her something about business so nobody could take advantage of her in the future. This is not really inconsistent with the arranged marriage, as we were given the impression that Hipolito was already successful while Gabriel was a mere law student, however brilliant. What we know nothing about is her parents' marriage, which could also have been arranged.
Many parents have a favorite child and it often is the oldest, especially if the oldest is intelligent and responsible. This might be at its most extreme here because Martina had four sons and no daughters. If Fernando had been a girl instead of a boy the whole family dynamic would have been different.
Did she spoil Marco? Maybe for a few years, especially since he was her last child. Rogelio would probably have also indulged him a bit in the same knowledge.
Ignacio not changing is either a defense mechanism or he was having everyone on all along. His attempt to intimidate Cecelia into celibacy is still ongoing.
Jarifa, you are right in that Martina does need some quiet time and reflection to process what is going on with her...I can't imagine how painful and terrifying that must be...
Diana
I haven't had a chance to watch this episode yet. It seems that we are seeing a trend in telenovelas. The other guy is understanding , devoted, protective ,and convincing in his love for the leading lady ,while the writers are busy making the galan weak, unsure, and whiny. Porque? At least make these two contestants for the leading lady equal. I worry about what the writers are going to do at the finale to knock Seb off the pedestal I have put him on. Maybe it is exactky like what happened to Gale in Invencible. Daniel brought something to that character that turned him into the galan. They let him do that, and then looked how they decided to end things.
I love Oswaldo, but Leo is wounded and worrying and not doing much more . A depressed , struggling galan is not what I need or want . I think we all need a little fantasy in our lives as we face reality daily. I need heroes. At this point, Seb is the hero.
The next round of Mujer replaces Tierra starting on Tuesday the 31st. It was announced last night.
In my neck of the woods, Mujer is being advertised as following Tierra, 9 ET. The start date is showing as October 31st.
Diana
Urban, a fabulous recap. Your marvelous wit was on full display including “Adriana pulled the Class Card [which must have been printed with invisible ink] “😊 and “She started emptying Rut's closet and dragged out a suitcase [Maybe she saw Waiting to Exhale]”. We can only hope a bonfire is next!
Although wrapped in a protective, defensive cocoon (and who can blame her), Bernarda has been a kind, loving mother. I had to smile at her finding Regina in the basket down by the river. All that was missing was the bulrushes. Mother and daughters are now reconciled and all is as it should be.
Maria Teresa still seems (mostly) oblivious to Marco, but thanks to Valentina, there seem to be times where she is viewing Marco with wiser eyes. Despite her heartbreak in losing Santos, Valentina has not lashed out at Maria Teresa and is handling the situation remarkably well. She has become one of my favorites here.
Remedios now knowing about Susi will fuel her to unmask Adriana. Loved “Remedios wanted to reveal all because no woman deserved this fate. [Recapper's Note: Especially at the hands of another woman.]”
Rut should have invested in a lock for his office long ago. I had to laugh that Norma appeared seeing enough to signal what was going to happen although outside of a few gross kisses, nothing really did. Norma will now make his life a living hell. The taller, stronger Clemente could have beaten Rut to a pulp, but that wouldn’t be in keeping with the kind character he is. Clemente’s scenes with Trejo continue to be so uplifting.
Diana
Diana and urban, thanks for the information about Mujer. I thought Mujer was only one season and that I had missed the finale. It is a fascinating story even though parts are so tragic . I am anxious to see the ending.
Susan, Sebas IS so strong and yet, Leo continues to be the weak link. Hopefully, that will change.
As Weirdo hasn’t posted as to whether or not she can do a recap, here are the main events. No frills.
The kind nurse helps Emilia to escape. Dressed in all black, Emilia wants to see Nico, whom she loves more than anything or anyone.
She sees Nico in Marijo’s larger than life doll house, Joaquina coming out, fretting they will be found. Emilia realizes Roberta will be searching for her and comes to the difficult but only decision she can, to leave Nico where he is.
Sebas and Emilia’s family continue to worry…
Still in agony, Leo sets out to try and find Emilia. She contacts him and they meet up in the woods.
Sara, who seemed she might be on the edge of redemption, cannot let Leo go…she calls Roberta and tells her where she thinks they are. As Leo and Emilia are talking, the sirens sound, lights flashing and police emerge training their guns on Emilia. My heart sinks knowing she will be returned to the manicomio.
I'm out for the day but looking forward to checking in later.
Diana
Who was that woman that was punished and screamed 'no' in the episode? Was she that patient who tried to visit E earlier?
Orlando found his mother. But she died of cancer. Why can't Jenifer be a nice person to everyone, not just him?
Miriam has to go to ultrasound on her own. Raise your hands those who thought this wouldn't happen so I could count you all. Thank you.
I really struggle to understand what is going on with this telenovela and its characters.
Fidel actually had to tell R that Emilia was likely to go to her house to see her son and only then did Roberta stop raging. Does Fidel have something going on with that doctora? Because he said something along the lines of don't experiment on her, but on Emilia. unless I misunderstood what he told Roberta. But he was definitely trying to save the doctora from Roberta's anger.
Why does Emilia forgive Leo so easily? Do these writers want me to despise Leo? Because I'm starting to. It's hard to resent E because she's suffering, but this tendency of telenovela protagonistas to forgive all kinds of hurt makes me want to scream.
They are going to destroy Seb, I fear, because they now let him be the saviour. David from invencible was written to be unlikable but they kept putting him in the position Seb is now in. This has to be the first time I'm wishing I could have seenwhat the writing process was like because I'm soo confused.
I found it interesting that Martina had really nothing positive to say about Fernando except maybe that he was a real Iturbide. Could it be because of his being a real Iturbide that he never was able to express love? The way his "qualities" were listed, it made me wonder. Imelda needs to run to the divorce lawyer and unload him ASAP.
Urban, thanks. "Ignacio not changing is either a defense mechanism or he was having everyone on all along. His attempt to intimidate Cecelia into celibacy is still ongoing." True on all counts. At least Cecilia seems to have learned her lesson well when it comes to him. As for Cass, I can only wish her luck especially with him so close to the edge no matter which of your two options is true. Martina's conversation with him should be a good one. As for Marco, yes, Martina seems to have really enjoyed the time she spent with him as a child considering that he was her youngest and she had the time alone with him that was not available with the others. I enjoyed hearing her opinion of each of her sons.
Super job, Jarifa. I love the way you cut to the chase about Ignacio: Unfortunately, Ignacio has reverted to his pre-therapy personality of victimhood and self-hatred.
All Martina is concerned about is Imelda turning her grandchildren against their father or the family. Imelda says she won't.
I'm with Martina on this. For all his faults, Fernando shows his kids love and affection. I'd choose him for the custodial parent over Imelda. The oldest child doesn't even smile when Imelda holds her. If Imelda moves in with Beatriz, it'll be even worse.
Guys are something else when they put down their guy friends for going along with their wives on an issue. Was Meliton's friend going to profit from him picking oranges, why does he even care that Meliton sticks with Felipa's wishes.
About Martina ruminating on her four sons, if Fernando reminds her of the husband she didn't love, I can see her treating him differently than the others. But honestly we've seen her favor Rogelio (which seemed natural to me because he was the most capable and compliant) and be equally controlling with all of them.
OMGahhhhh! Where are the writers taking us . I dont think I want to go there.
I was hoping that Em would get to Nick by going down that slide...but...no.
Em should have just stayed in that super sized play house . Roberta probably never would have found her there.
I hate Sara.
Where were Sara and Jenny meeting for their coffee talk? Were they in a Leo's house ?
Here's what I think ..they are showing us that patient who was trying to befriend Em. I think she is Orlando's mother. I bet Fidel and Roberta out her in the manicomia so they could bunny hop all over the place . I think the patient is played by Karyme Lozano. It looks like that to me although I haven't seen her in a show in years.
Poor Oswaldo . He is trying to give some life and substance to his wounded , helpless character by giving us lots of sincere grunts , groans , and moans , but the writers continue to render him useless just like they did with Gael at the end of invencible where the writers kept him injured, hospitalized, and out of the action , except for throwing Daniel and viewers a crumb by letting him pull and push and punch Romeo and Dad. Uff.
We did get a peek at the snake oil wheeler dealer trying to avoid Fidel and Addled. I thought he was long gone .
Susan, your comment gave me a good laugh. 'I don't think I want to go there.' me neither. I think they'll drag us there kicking and screaming. 'sincere grunts and groans.'...Poor actor. I do wonder what these actors think when they get a role like that. I wonder if anyone has ever refused to play a character in these showsbecause of poor writing. I keep hearing telenovela actors don't earn a fortune.
I just really, really don't want to go back to that hospital. I thought for sure she'd be able to escape and would come back to the town after working in something related to mines and with the contacts to rival Roberta's. So how long are we going to be stuck in that manicomio? I want to get out!
Martina definitely has some responsibility for Fernando's self-esteem issues. I'm not sure how much older Rogelio is than Fernando, but parentifying him was not good for anyone here; it never is.
Bonus points for Meliton for sticking with Felipa. I doubt that picking oranges would pay more enough to make any real difference to their bottom line.
Thanks so much, Jarifa, that was a great read. My favorite part was Martina writing about all her sons. And your recap filled in what I didn’t understand. She knows her children well!
I didn’t realize that was Andrea’s new boyfriend eating lunch with them. I just thought they were a couple. I don’t think I would have gone, but maybe Luis wanted to check out the new boyfriend.
Ignacio reverting to his pre-therapy days was was a perfect comment. He’s being as unlikable as he used to be. I think he just learned to hide his true self and coming out of the induced coma has made it harder for him to act like a nice guy. I wonder if Cass will stick with him.
Imelda asking for a divorce took me by surprise. She was so intent on marrying into the family and being the next Monarca of Morelia.
Liz
Jarifa, thank for another always astute and complete review of all the drama as it rolls onward .
I have no idea where the writers are taking us and will leave us in just a little while .
Igy is an enigma . As his story unfolded, he seemed like a tragic character destined for a tragic ending like his mother . Then , we saw him constantly taking two steps forward and two steps back .I dont know what will happen to him as this telenovela train finally pulls into the station, and we anticipate what awaits us on the next train .
Reviewing your life is common. The highs, the lows. What did you want to be, do, have ,give ? Martina is wise to compile photos and thoughts . I have a cousin who is a chaplain in an Alhzeimers nursing home . " In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make " Beatles
" You can spend all your time making love , or you can spend all your love making time." The Eagles
Thank you Jarifa, for your always spectacular notes from the couch! I should be reading from home but my first flight yesterday got delayed by 8 hours and every connecting flight was of course missed! I am trying again today and will hopefully be reading from home tomorrow! I can’t wait to catch up!
I am actually sorry to hear Imelda wants a divorce! I know Fernando is a pain but I was rooting for the whole she married for money but they stayed together and it turned into love twist!! Oh well…
Thank you Urban! I am looking forward to finally getting home and catching up!
It never made sense to me that a woman who experienced rape and had such a negative opinion of men would have two daughters so close together in age by two different men so the explanation of Regina’s parentage makes sense to me. I wonder why she was abandoned? It was probably too soon to know that she was deaf.
Diana, Valentina has been one of my favorites all along I am glad to read she is still being civil with MT. As I have said all along one of the highlights of this novela has been seeing women actually treat each other with respect regardless of the circumstances.
Thanks, Urban, I enjoyed reading your recap and enjoyed the show too.
Was happy to see Norma slap both of them and then throw Rut out. About time.
Why do characters in telenovelas tell the bad guys they know what they did and are reporting them. I would report them and never say a word to them. I hope Remedios is with us at the end.
This is just a thought or wild guess. When Clemente gave Trejo the drawing I first wondered why he would give him a picture of Regina. I remember he was in love with someone, maybe Regina is their daughter and she never told him she was pregnant. This is what happens when your imagination is better than your Spanish! But Regina deserves to know her father and he’d be a great dad!
Yes, MT looks less and less pleased with Marco. Valentina will be telling her about him, Suzi will talk and things will turn around quickly.
Liz
Interesting theory about Trejo. I'll add to it: Vanessa died of heartbreak after losing baby Regina. Rut meets his end, Trejo finds his previously unknown daughter and starts dating Norma.
I'm with you on the threats, but then again, I'm a cold-blooded gringa.
Niecie, thanks. "Guys are something else when they put down their guy friends for going along with their wives on an issue." This is something I have NEVER understood. It has always seemed rather stupid to me.
Liz, "Imelda asking for a divorce took me by surprise. She was so intent on marrying into the family and being the next Monarca of Morelia." I was surprised she gave up Villa Morelia as easily as she did but maybe the fact that she never really loved Fernando made it easier. Plus, she has parents who are always ready to give her and her children a place to live.
Susan, loved you quoting two memorable songs. "Igy is an enigma ." I thought he was a lot better and now we have no idea about how he is going to end up. Maybe there is no hope for him.
Darcy, so sorry that it is taking so long to ge back home. Been there, hated that. Thanks for posting from the road! : )
