The long haired woman is Nuria and Consuelo's aunt. It seems she lives in Mexico City and came because of the "death" of her grand nephew Andrés.
Regarding the phone Martha was waving around, yes, it contained texts that would have incriminated Santiago for corporate espionage. Very early on someone, I think Martha, mentioned something about Santiago having been guilty of selling Zepeda secrets ON TOP of killing his ex and her new man.
I constantly go back and forth about Braulio. When I saw the phone and knew that Braulio also knew about it, I suspected him of setting that up. But...I think he gave the phone to Martha, and no one has told Roberto about it, from what I can tell. Braulio definitely has an inferiority complex about his older brother, and might have set up those texts. But why would he keep quiet about it? What we can be sure about is that Santi is not guilty.
Yes, in IIRC the second scene with Rosendo, his name was mentioned. He sure was smarmy and sucking up to Santi and Liana. These writers reveal things bit by bit, so I suppose working at that location is because Santi chose it when Liana revealed to him who the guy was.
Thanks so much, dondi. Another great recap with those details we need.
Will Rat-fet ever get canned? He drives Pars nuts, but I don’t know who decides candidates for the Istanbul chiefs.
Amen about the flash drive. C’mon, Omer. Do like the other cast members do regularly…boot up your laptop and show it to us. Yekta is beginning to think he’s bitten off more than he can chew. Love any scene with him having a scared, not smug face.
Wow, Fake Cetin pulled off a Turkish GoFundMe scam with his son’s illness.
Merdan is SO smart. “If a wolf walks freely through the house…ready to devour us.” I love these Turkish aphorisms.
In the sense that he refused to back down, Ilgaz is right about what happened being his fault. But if every public servant bowed out in the face of threats, there would be no justice.
Yep, the typical TN/dizi doctor’s speech. But he left out the old saw from TN’s : grave, muy grave.
Another example of Merdan’s intelligence…having Ceylin take custody of the gambling chip.
Arif, the bride’s father, isn’t a complete monster. He owns that the death of Ferda is on him.
Again, thanks, dondi. This dizi has me completely riveted each night.
Ilgaz asks Ismet, where is the casino? Is it in Selim’s home? No, Ismet replies, it’s where he and his father work as security guards. It’s in a housing complex. I played at the casino there. I owed them money and Selim paid my debt.
Ilgaz has what he needs and takes off. He calls Eren and tells him to contact Special Ops. We’re going to raid the place where Selim works. There’s a casino there and Defne could be there.
Special Ops + Ilgaz +Eren are assembled outside the housing complex. [This is like “Zero Dark Thirty”. Are they after Bin Laden or Defne?] Ilgaz tells the men there are several gambling tables inside. We’ll surround the perimeter and make sure there’s a single entrance and exit. Finding my sister is the priority. Search everywhere. Allah yardımcınız olsun.
The raid on the casino commences.
Yekta asks Rat-fet, if you’re done questioning Selim, can we leave? How much longer must we wait? What’s the rush, Rafet snarks, do you have a garden to tend to? We’re not done, we keep getting new evidence. I’m waiting for a call from DA Ilgaz. If he tells me, I can let you go. The Rat snarks again, you got a flight to catch? [Rat has permission to be as snarky as he wanna be with Yekta.]
Yekta tries to extract some of this new info from Rafet. If you tell me, I wouldn’t mind waiting around. Rafet says don’t ask.
Umut brings Yakup in. Put him in the interrogation room, Rafet says, I’ll notify AG Pars. Yekta sends Omer out to bring back something to eat and drink, saying, their tea and coffee are making me sick.
The search at the casino continues. They are live streaming it to the police station. Pars is watching. Rafet comes to tell him Yakup is there. Pars says to walk him past Selim. Give him a scare.
Goksu comes to the station. They found Metin’s blood in the dolmuş. They ran prints but they weren’t in the system. It’s strange, so many people but none show up in the system. Pars wonders if they were foreigners.
Rafet walks Yakup past Selim in holding. As predicted, this gets a rise out of Selim. Why is Yakup here?
Someone arrives at the Erguvan house. Gul assumes it’s Parla. It’s Ceylin. Gul is overjoyed that her daughter has come and rushes to give her a hug. Ceylin does not reciprocate and is very cool to the others. The fam tells her how sorry they are over what happened to Metin and Defne. Ceylin is unmoved. Gul asks if there’s any news about Defne. No.
Ceylin asks Aylin, can we talk? They go into a bedroom. Ceylin starts, I don’t know if this is really my sister who stands before me. The man you’re madly in love with is a conman. Did you know he’s married and has 3 kids?
Ceylin pours it on. Is this the happiness you think you deserve? To lose your pride, yourself, your home, to a tacky conman? How could you fall for his tricks? Nothing seemed suspicious to you? He got a tattoo because his son was dying. He fooled his neighbors and local business owners and took off with the money. He’s a bastard who takes advantage of good people.
Certified Idiot Aylin asks, was that Ela? What Ela, Ceylin shouts. Are you ever going to learn your lesson? Aylin whimpers, he said he was a government agent. Ceylin replies, lies, lies, all lies! I can’t believe you are looking for a way to defend him!
Ilgaz and I warned you, everyone warned you, Ceylin says. We said something seemed off but you refused to listen. Ceylin places a copy of The Faker’s file in her sister’s hands. Look… it’s full of complains from other women. You should at least believe them. If he really was a gov’t agent, it would be included here. He’s just a bum who leeches off women.
Ceylin has finally run out of steam. She sits next to Aylin on the bed. I’m mad at you, but I also worry about you. I know you’re going through something difficult. Your pride and honor were crushed because of Zumrut and Osman. When you got the attention you’d never been given, you thought you were in love. You fell for it like a child. Listen, you are a beautiful and kind woman. You don’t need anyone else’s love. Don’t let anyone treat you poorly again. They hug.
Ceylin comes out of the bedroom and Osman immediately asks, what happened? What’s wrong with Aylin? Is it that man? Ceylin replies, ask Aylin. This is no longer my problem. I’ve done all I could.
Osman tries to enter the bedroom, but he gets the door slammed in his face.
Guests and workers are taken out of the casino. Eren roughs up an employee. Where’s the owner?! Where’s the child?! The guy says, there’s no child here. We just gamble here. Eren demands to know who is the boss. The guy says we never met them, they just call. Who calls, Eren asks, who are they? The Balkan Mafia, the guy cries, they run the place. Eren knows this is bad.
Yakup is questioned. Pars goes over his previous testimony. You said you didn’t take the necklace. But your prints were on it. Tell the truth! Should I have you tried for murder? Pars notes Yakup has a rap sheet. Assault, resisting arrest. Yakup says they were watching his shop. He was defending himself.
Pars continues, you killed the girl to take her necklace. Take him to the judge. That does the trick. Yakup talks. We were drinking that day, we were drunk and having fun.
We get a flashback. Selim calls Yakup from the bridal room. He’s in a panic. Ferda is out cold on the floor. Come to the bridal room. Yakup asks, what happened? Selim replies, just come you fool! Yakup calmly tells his tablemates he’s going to check something in the kitchen.
Selim is in full blown panic mode when he lets Yakup in. It’s over! I’m doomed! Yakup sees Ferda on the floor. He turns to Selim—what did you do?! I didn’t do anything, Selim cries out, she was like this when I came in! I’m doomed! You have to help me.
We see Yakup check if the way is clear. Selim carries Ferda outside and down the back stairs. They load Ferda into the back of the van. Do you have her phone? Where do we take her? They drive to the cliff and take Ferda out.
While Selim goes back to the van, Yakup takes the necklace off of Ferda. Selim comes back with a tire and they tie Ferda to it with her red ribbon. They send Ferda over the edge, into the water and she sinks. Yakup throws her phone into the water.
Selim and Yakup return to the venue. Hakki immediately goes to Selim. Where were you? The officiant is waiting. We’re here now, Selim replies with a big smile. Yakup heads back to his table. His wife is ticked he disappeared. He says, I’m the best man and I have to be everywhere at once. She walks away. Yakup slips the necklace into her purse. Fake Cetin sees him do this. End Flash.
Yakup tells Pars he was tempted [to take the necklace]. We were getting rid of the body and I couldn’t help it. I didn’t want to tell Selim. Pars asks, so you are saying Selim killed her? I don’t know, Yakup answers. Selim was in shock when I got to the room. I thought she committed suicide.
Then why would Selim dump her body at sea, Pars asks. Yakup doesn’t know. When I thought she committed suicide… Pars asks, did you talk about it later? There was nothing to talk about, Yakup replies, we couldn’t talk. I haven’t even visited him. Pars tells Rafet to take Yakup to jail. He’ll go before the judge tomorrow.
Yakup protests, I told you everything I know. Pars says, I don’t care, this isn’t how it works. You threw her into the water. That’s a crime! You’ll be punished! Yakup is dragged away. His lawyer leaves. Pars mutters to himself, I swear I’m going to quit.
Back to the casino raid. The place is still being emptied. Eren tells Ilgaz they are still searching. If she’s here, we’ll find her. Eren says the organization at the casino is strange. The staff, waiters, croupiers behave like residents and family. The patrons claim to be here to visit them.
Ilgaz wants to find out who set this up. Eren says he was told it’s the Balkan Mafia. There are no foreigners inside. There were more people inside than on our team. Is there a title deed to this place, Ilgaz asks. Yes, Eren replies, it belongs to a woman. She’s been dead for two years. Her 3 children live in Canada. Ilgaz wants everyone to be questioned.
Pars tells Ceylin he’s going to question Selim again, but he’ll wait for Ilgaz. Ceylin notes that they didn’t find Defne in the casino raid. Rafet comes bursting into the office with big news from the Antiterrorist Unit. A bomb was detonated in a mall in Ankara last year. The type of bomb, the way it was placed in the car, the goal to spread fear is the same MO.
Pars asks if they found the culprits. Yes, Rafet replies, the Balkan Mafia. The guy who planted the bomb was caught in Ankara. He confessed. Unfortunately, no one else was caught.
Eren and Ilgaz return to the station. Ilgaz is anxious to question Selim. Yekta and Omer observe. Yekta thinks Ilgaz is ready to explode. Omer says that would be bad for his career. Yekta says it will be bad for the other person.
Eren tells Pars it was the Balkan Mafia. Selim killed her and they are protecting him. Pars tells them that Yakup gave his testimony. I guess Pars will tell him off camera.
Ilgaz goes down to the holding cells. He tells Selim he can’t hide anymore. You killed Ferda. Selim shouts, I didn’t kill her! Ilgaz grabs him and shouts back, it’s over! I want the truth! You’re being protected by a criminal organization so you won’t give them away. But you will tell me the truth!
Selim continues to proclaim his innocence. There’s no one protecting me! Ilgaz drags him out of the cell and takes him to the interrogation room. Ceylin and Pars watch from behind the glass.
Quiet dinner at the Erguvans until Aylin blurts out—I sold the house. What house, Osman asks. How many houses do we have, Aylin snarks back. I sold the house you asked me to sell. What are you talking about, he replies, have you lost your mind? You sold the house? To whom? Why did you sell it? How could you sell it without asking me first?
It gets heated. Aylin and Osman jump up from their chairs. You don’t get an opinion, she shouts. Parla was going to prison, and I needed money to get a passport! [she left out: so I sold the house and gave it to a conman.] She’s getting private lessons now, which you can’t afford! I used the money to pay for that.
That’s an excuse, Osman angrily replies. You can’t sell a house to pay for lessons! You thought I’d believe that? You sold because of him! He tricked you into selling it! [bingo!] Aylin leaves the room. Osman yells after her, where are you going? Don’t run away like a coward! When I asked you to sell, you refused! Gul tries to calm him down in vain.
Selim says he had no idea people were gambling inside. Don’t lie, Ilgaz says, you were their security staff. You saw employees and patrons every night. You knew what was happening. Selim says guests come and go. I don’t know what they do. Ilgaz changes the topic, what about the murder? Yakup confessed. He says you two moved Ferda after you killed her. Now your bosses protect you.
I didn’t kill anyone, Selim repeats. How can I get you to believe me? I didn’t kill Ferda! I know you killed her, Ilgaz accuses, your friend said so. He’s lying, Selim replies, it’s slander. You dumped her in the water, Ilgaz says, we have his statement. Tell the truth!
Selim admits—yes! We did it! But I swear I didn’t kill her! She was dying when I went into the room! Flashback. Selim enters the room and finds Ferda on the floor. She’s still alive and she’s vomiting. He gets down on the floor and tries to get her up. He panics. Ferda, what’s wrong? Ferda! She doesn’t respond. We see the vomit drip on his shoe. He lets go of her and she falls back to the floor. End flashback.
I didn’t kill her, Selim says for the thousandth time. Then who did, Ilgaz asks. I don’t know, Selim shouts. I swear I don’t know. Maybe she committed suicide. Do you think I’m stupid, Ilgaz asks. When someone commits suicide, you call an ambulance. Why did you get rid of her body? Omer interjects, it makes sense.
Ilgaz continues, you killed Ferda and realized everyone would turn against you. So you went to the criminal organization you trusted. Or maybe you threatened them. You know too much. Selim denies it all. I didn’t ask for help! I had nothing to do with it! Ilgaz gets up from his chair and grabs Selim by the collar. Tell me who leads the organization! I don’t know, Selim replies.
Pars enters the room. Yetka says this is getting nowhere. Ilgaz steps out. Pars tells Ilgaz to calm down. Ilgaz says, can’t you see he’s lying? Yes, Pars replies, but that’s not the way. You can’t do that.
Yekta comes out. We’re done talking. We’ve had enough. If you have evidence, send him before the judge. Yekta leaves with Omer. Pars tells Eren to take Selim back to holding. He can continue testifying tomorrow. Ilgaz objects—tomorrow? My sister is missing. So, what do we do, Pars asks, wring his neck? Yekta will make a scene. Pars asks Eren to take Hakki into custody too.
Ilgaz arrives at the hospital. He joins Cinar at the ICU window. Cinar says, I just want one thing… that Dad wakes up and Defne is found. [Lol, that’s actually two things, but that’s what he said in Turkish. I’ll cut him slack because he’s upset.] Ilgaz holds his brother as he cries.
Ozgur drives Yekta and Omer while classical music plays. Yekta enjoys the music and insults Ozgur. There’s a traffic stop up ahead. They pull over and the cop asks them to get out of the car. Yekta pulls out his ID and identifies himself as a lawyer. He asks, what’s going on? The cop replies, step out of the car and I’ll fill you in.
Omer and Ozgur get out of the car. Pars, Eren, Ilgaz and Ceylin slide in. Yekta is alarmed. Are you kidnapping me? Have you lost your mind? You shouldn’t say that Eren tells him. Don’t say that in front of DA Ilgaz and AG Pars. You’re kidnapping me again, Yekta says, you won’t get away with it this time.
Let’s talk, Ilgaz says, then we will see who ends up where. Drive, Eren. They go to a desolate spot by the water. Yekta hesitates to get out of the car. You drive me off a public road to a place where I could be killed, and nobody would know. You’re smart. If I were to report you, there’s no evidence of anything. You could’ve just set up a meeting. He gets out. I’m here, what do you want?
Eren comments, don’t tell me Yekta Tilmen is scared. He’s shaking. We’ve been patient up until now, Ilgaz says. You’ve been a thorn in our side with your ridiculous speeches. You tried to have us fired and we’ve always been respectful to you. This time it’s different, Yekta. My family is everything. If anything happens to my father or sister, I’ll burn the world and leave you in the middle of it. I won’t use intrigues to get revenge, like you do. I’ll destroy you. I’ll cut your legs off. Understand?
Pars says, we know your client is involved. If you have anything to say, say it now. I have, Yekta replies, I knew this would blow up in my face. Maybe that’s your fault, Ilgaz says. Yekta answers, I knew it would, but I didn’t think you’d be so vulgar. I don’t know anything, Yekta claims, I don’t know anything of your sister’s whereabouts. She’s just a child. If I knew where she was, I’d tell you.
I don’t believe you, Ilgaz says, and remember what I said. If you learn anything and keep silent, if you are involved in any way, I will ruin your life. Pars faces Yekta, you said it yourself, she’s just a child. If you have a conscience, you’ll tell us what you know. Our four friends walk away. Yekta gulps.
And we are out.
Thanks novelera, you seem to have this uncanny knack for picking details that I’ve completely missed. For sure if Santi was guilty, he would be looking for a phone full of texts that would definitely implicate him. But even so, he did his time, could he be re-tried for the same crime?
Like you, I go back and forth with Braulio. But as more of his character is revealed, I like him less and less. His morning tryst with Lianna, then wooing and romancing Amelia and making love to her at night is just disgusting. I do wonder if he and Nuria ever did the deed given his “appetite.” I can’t tell if Nuria would or wouldn’t though. And what is the deal with Lianna? Beautiful girl so why would she sleep with Braulio except to satisfy an “itch?” She can get that itch scratched by any man she wants. Why Santi’s brother? However, I do think that Braulio really loves Nuria……..
Roberto truly, and I do mean TRULY surprised me with his attitude towards Martha giving up her baby for adoption. He displayed no compassion for her whatsoever, and it really turned me off on him. She was 15 for goodness sake and not old enough or financially able to go against her parents. Thank God for Aida! She had to make it make sense for him. Aida is a treasure so far, but I would never serve the man I love and his wife——-who knows I’m in love with him——EVER! But it sets the story I guess. Everybody has their “stuff.”
Big clap to lil Andres! He can cry and laugh and show such an emotional range for his age. I know it’ll be a long time before he and Nuria are reunited, but when that does happen, I hope he has his memory back. He’s bonded with both Diego and Amelia and could possibly reject Nuria if he doesn’t remember her.
Nuria seemed really taken aback that her cousin? was working for the Zepeda’s. She will probably end up working for them herself cause that’s the only way I can see that her and Santi will get together. It’s taken longer than I thought for them to really connect, but the writers are doing a nice job with their separate, but connected stories……..
Novelera, thanks for clearing things up a bit for me .
Kimberly Dos Ramos ( Liana) has been in several telenovelas on Univision always as the blonde bad girl after the good guy, so....I am guessing Liana is a bad girl.
I have seen the actor playing Braulio in several Univision shows , sometimes good, sometimes not so good. I think he is a bad guy here . This guy is a player, and players only love you when they're playing ..thank you Stevie. He seems to be a smooth operator trying to wheel and deal everyone ...Santi, Amelia, his mother, Nuria. I dont trust him . He seems like a polished version of smarmy, crazyeyed Fausto. Just saying ...
Thanks, Dondi. I'm riveted every night.
This is all so intense, thank goodness for the relief of Pars' wit: "Pars says this sounds like a morning TV show." Come on, Derya. Take a chance on Pars and your baby.
Merdan is the man with a plan. I too loved Zulkuf closing the door in Cinar's face.
Ceylin and Ilgaz have both been placed in excruciating positions to help their loved ones, but I don't see her helping Parla escape from possible prison sentence on the same level as Ilgaz's search to find Defne, who could be murdered or never seen again. Maybe I'm splitting hairs. But Eren gave Ceylin good advice, stop resenting Ilgaz.
Seeing the poor bride treated so inhumanely, by so-called normal people (if normal people can do something like this, how horrible can the Balkan mafia be?) was tough to watch. Everyone connected, from the pills to dumping her in the water, should be locked up.
Maybe Yekta does have scruples about a child in danger, but I'm betting Omer doesn't.
Thank you, dondi356.
This show knows how to keep up the intensity.
Ceylin is upset that Ilgaz uses what it takes to save Defne, but he does not accept her using what it takes to save Parla. I think it is an opportunity for her to be able to say "see, never say never." I hope she doesn't bring it up until Ilgaz does. And if Parla was held hostage by the Balkan mafia, I think Ilgaz would also do whatever it takes to save her.
The threats to Yekta seemed pointless.
Thanks, dondi, for another recap of this intense dizi. Yes, Niecie, I'm riveted as well. What a plot! Thanks, dondi, for the Zero Dark Thirty reference. That was a good movie. I'm wondering how they could keep this assault on a street of houses secret with that many officers involved.
Whatever happened to the Yekta/Rat-fet alliance? I guess, for Rat-fet, no $, no pleasantries. I still wish the writers had explained that shell casing Rafet handed to Yekta that turned out NOT to be the one Ceylin later found.
Everything Ceylin said was true and spot on, but she could have explained everything in a less accusatory way to Aylin, who's already a wreck.
Why do the Balkan Mafia want to go to such ends to protect a "security guard" from a murder accusation? Wouldn't it have been simpler to just kill him?
That whole insane thing of throwing Ferda's body in the water just makes no sense. Sure Selim is involved in shady work for the "organization" but would that necessarily have come to light if he'd just screamed for the families and an ambulance.
Omer: "makes sense" about dumping the body. Whoa, his sociopathy is showing.
Again, thanks so much, dondi, for the tremendous recaps!
I'm still trying to keep up with this one. It's a little tough not being able to watch one night a week and the antenna isn't cooperating, and my spanish comprehension has gotten bad, but I'm trying! And now I want to start guessing who Marta's little girl is because you know she'll come back in the picture. At first I thought it would be Liana, but knowing Marta was only 15, Liana is too young. I vote for the orphanage woman who is ready to adopt out "Juanito" despite not knowing his real identity. You'd think that would be important.
I'm pulling for Braulio. He seems like a jerk, but not the evil variety. Maybe he and Amelia can pull through and adopt the other boys at the orphanage? But it's early days. And I haven't been able to keep up with whatever Santiago is doing, so meh. I just hope the good cop, who might be destined to end up with Consuelo despite deserving better, is able to get the proper dna test without getting himself murdered. Telenovela Mexico could use some good cops.
K
Well, Braulio has himself all the way on the bad side. His confidante is Tigre, who I thought might be a decent guy, but no. We find out that Brauio ordered the killing of Alicia and Fabián and got Santiago blamed for it.
Braulio wanted Fabián killed and Alicia just happened to be there. The explanation was confusing, but it seemed to me to have something to do with that espionage Martha thinks Santi did. Fabián found out it was Braulio and had to go. However, Fabián has been in a coma for 5 years. Wanna bet he wakes up?
Fausto decides to rob a bank and mental defective Consuelo is the getaway driver. Sheesh.
Amalia is talked out of adopting Andrés/Juanito by Braulio. He'd prefer a baby, but the baby mama rejects them.
Nuria's neighbor in D.F. has a daughter who's experiencing domestic violence, but won't admit it.
Santi tells Liana he's not the man for her.
Jacinto hints to Consuelo that Andrés might be alive. He touches a teddy bear while hiding from Fausto. Could there be a hair of Andrés on it?
Thanks novelera. Well surprise, surprise! Braulio is our man, lol. Not only is he a liar, cheater, gas lighter and now murderer, but he’s willing to go to any lengths to save his own skin. He’s Fausto with money……. And to think I had a thing for Tigre——sheesh! Who was the actor that Santi was getting the info from regarding Gaitan? I’ve seen him in a few novelas and I really like him! Hope he gets more air time.
And I guess it’s no surprise that Lianna’s love for Santi is totally conditional. If she can’t have him the way that she wants him, then he’s toying with her according to her…..when he’s been nothing but honest. You know when a guy’s into you, especially after doing a 5 yr stint. Plus the way that she told him to get over Alicia was just plain ole insensitive. But she’s also a friend of Amelia’s so I guess that’s just the way that she rolls……
Chelo gets dumber and dumber and appeared to be really turned on by Fausto robbing the bank, after complaining overly much about it…..Jacinto confesses his love, but the girl is just too dumb…..sorry Jacinto……
At least Roberto is now on board with helping Martha find her daughter. I am super curious about who her daughter might be? We can eliminate Nuria, cause that would just be too icky with Braulio being her brother…
I thought that the pregnant girl was not only a little rough around the edges, but funny too. With all the money that the Zepeda’s have, any poor girl on the streets would’ve jumped through hoops to give her baby to them———and ask for some substantial cash to boot. It doesn’t get any better than them, even without knowing what an ass Braulio is…..
I hope Diego gets Andres………
Quick thank you to all who have commented. I've fallen a bit behind again. I'll have the Thursday recap up in a few minutes and Friday's will be up later this weekend.
This is definitely one of the better dizis I've ever watched. The writing is solid. The acting is top notch--the heroes, the villains, and the annoying certified idiots.
It's no wonder that this has sold well worldwide, won many big awards in Turkey, and is up for an International Emmy.
Interesting note: Turkey is now second in the world behind the USA in terms of production and placement of TV series. They have surpassed the TNs of Mexico and Brazil.
To keep score, we are at Turkish ep 54 out of 63.
Ilcey are alone in Eren’s office. He asks, are you mad at me? Her lips say no, but her demeanor says otherwise. She asks if there are any updates. Selim isn’t talking, he replies, he claims he didn’t kill her and he didn’t know about the casino. He’s scared of the Mafia.
Ceylin suggests, maybe you should ask your grandfather for help again. Ilgaz shoots her a look, what’s that supposed to mean? You could if you wanted to, she replies, you could turn to the dark side. I didn’t do anything illegal, he tells her. She says, you’re standing at the edge of an abyss. One false move and you’ll fall. His comeback—my sister is missing. She knows.
I’d turn to the dark side for Defne’s sake, Ceylin says. [she’s done it for less.] I’d even kill for her. You don’t normally do this sort of thing. I didn’t and I won’t, Ilgaz answers. Pars enters and breaks up the potential fight. He complains, it’s the same story, “I didn’t do it. I didn’t know. There’s no gambling going on.”
Goksu has news. We analyzed the clothes worn by Selim’s family. We found traces of cherry juice and the drug that killed Ferda on SIL Gulcin’s dress. Ilgaz wants her for questioning. And search the house. Eren directs Umut to bring in Gulcin and have the team search the house for drugs.
Osman shows up at the station and he wants a favor from Eren. Yep, it’s about Fake Cetin. Eren explains they have his file from Antep. He’s been booked and he will be charged. Eren takes Osman to see the Faker in holding. He warns him to keep his word. Osman swears he just wants to talk. [We all know where this is heading.]
We get the flashback of “Dr. Cetin” asking to examine Aylin when she was hospitalized. [I wondered why Osman didn’t recognize Faker then. I thought he had already seen him.] Osman makes the connection now. You! Osman goes wild and reaches through the bars. You kicked me out so you could examine Aylin!
Osman continues to rant while The Faker smirks. He taunts, you’re upset that Aylin chose me. Are you here to whine like a child? So you could pull my hair? You’re wondering what she saw in me. You won’t like it but I’ll tell you. If you’d been good to her, she wouldn’t have set her eyes on me. This is your fault. Faker tells Osman she was an easy target because there was an absence of love and attention.
Osman goes wild again. Shut up! I’m gonna kill you! [great thing to be shouting in a police station.] Eren rushes in to pull Osman out of there.
We’re at the ICU. The girls are still there to support Cinar. Parla brings him something to eat. He’s not hungry. They worry about him. FF>> Cinar goes outside for some fresh air.
Gulcin is brought to the station. Ilgaz says to put her interrogation room. She’s worried. I was told you had questions, not that I was being questioned. What’s the difference, Rafet asks, do you disapprove? If you didn’t do anything, don’t fight it, talk to us.
Gulcin is taken and Rafet tells Ilgaz they found the drug in her home. It belongs to her husband. Ilgaz wonders how they missed that. They checked everyone on the guest list. Rafet explains the husband is disabled and did not attend the wedding.
Pars asks Ceylin if she’s being followed. She says no, she always checks. He thinks Defne was kidnapped so they could get what they wanted. If they wanted to hurt her, she’d be in the hospital, too. But they tried to kill Metin, Ceylin replies. To show they meant business, Pars says. They go to check out the interrogation.
Ilgaz tells Gulcin they’ve been questioning Selim. She knows and says he’s innocent. Ilgaz sets a trap. It was difficult at first, he says, but he confessed that you killed Ferda using your husband’s medication. Gulcin denies this. Ilgaz accuses her of putting the meds in the juice.
Gulcin begins to panic. He’s lying. Selim wouldn’t say that. Why would he say that? Ilgaz tells her, you can ask him when you see each other in court. There’s no way out. You killed her. It’s best if you confess now. Ilgaz asks, why did you kill her? How did you kill her?
Flashback. Ferda’s on her phone and Gulcin enters the room. She’s friendly and complementary. She asks if she can reapply her smudged makeup. Ferda doesn’t care. While Ferda is distracted with the phone, Gulcin removes something from her purse that contains the drug. She sprinkles it into the juice, stirs it with her pinky, and wipes it on her dress. Gulcin leaves the room.
Back to the hall, and Ismet briefly speaks with Selim and Yakup. Gulcin comes over to Selim and Yakup. She tells Selim, the bride looks beautiful. He sends Yakup off to fetch him a drink.
Gulcin moves in, the bride is beautiful, but you deserve better. She’s getting flirty. Selim is irritated—again with that? Gulcin says, so I took care of it. You couldn’t do it but I could. Selim gives her a shocked look—what? She tells him, nothing will come between us now. End flash.
Gulcin admits, I did it so he wouldn’t get married. I love Selim. My BIL Hakki figured it out. He paid off the debt to get the girl. I know he did it… to keep me away. So I said to myself, “Gulcin, do it.” In the end, everyone would think it was a suicide. She didn’t want to marry him either. Things didn’t go as planned. It got complicated.
Ilgaz asks, and then? Gulcin continues, Selim told me to keep quiet, that I shouldn’t get involved. He’d handle it. The casino owners would protect me. If they didn’t, he’d give them up. [maybe that’s what is on the flash drive he gave to Omer.] Ilgaz asks, did he give you a name or say how he met them? No, he didn’t tell me.
Pars comments behind the glass, the things people do for love. Ceylin replies, that’s not love! She’s evil!
Ilgaz and Eren leave the room. Eren asks, what do you think? Ceylin says, she turned our world upside down. Ilgaz asks Pars, what now? I’ll go over the statements, he replies, and send them to the judge. Ilgaz reminds him about the father and the best man. Pars adds that Derya reported no change in Metin’s condition.
The accused are loaded in a van. Yekta and Omer leave the station to follow. Our group returns to Eren’s office.
Rafet brings in files from the Ankara bombing and the files of the people involved. I hope we find some clues, he says. Ilgaz tells Rafet to grab a few files, we’re looking for those connected to gambling. Pars tells him to get tea for everyone. Tolga enters, Ilgaz wants him to take some files and look at them outside. Ceylin will explain. Ha, Rafet only takes one file to review, and he asks someone to bring tea.
Cinar is outside and guess who walks up? The lurker. He asks, don’t you remember me? I’m always at the pool hall. Cinar says he remembers—you’re the tea tourist. He says his name is Eyup. I came looking for you. I was told you were here. I have something important to tell you. Today I went to have tea. You know, you hear things when you sit alone. He asks, is your sister missing? Yes. Was she taken on a dolmuş? I heard something like that. I saw the dolmuş.
How did you see it, Cinar asks. Eyup replies, yesterday, when I was on my way to the bus stop, I saw a dolmuş that wasn’t following the route. I thought it was strange. A girl and a woman got out. The girl cried and asked the woman to let her go. I thought the woman was her mother, but…
You don’t know Defne, Cinar asks, how would you know? I asked to see a picture at the pool hall, Eyup replies. They came out of nowhere and I recognized her when I saw her. I think it was her. I’m sure. Cinar asks, did you see where they went? Yes, I saw them go into a house on that street. Cinar says, let’s go tell my brother. Eyup asks, who’s your brother? I’ll fill you in, Cinar answers, let’s go, quickly. [I’m dying to know who this Eyup really is and why he’s been lurking!]
Back at the station, everyone’s reading files. Ceylin gets a message. Unknown number. Is it them? It’s a video. It’s Defne. She has a paper in her hand. We don’t see the face of the person who is recording her. Defne begins, brother… I.. I’m… fine. I was asked to read this to you. This afternoon at 6p, Selim Kurseber needs to be released. The DA’s office will not press charges against him. He won’t be harassed or detained again. You won’t hurt him.
Defne pauses, sniffs back tears and continues, if you don’t do this… they are going to kill me, brother. Defne cries. Ilgaz knocks over a table and then he leaves the room. Pars asks Ceylin to replay the video. She puts her phone down and says, you watch it. And she leaves the room to follow Ilgaz.
Ilgaz loses it in the bathroom. Ceylin comes in and stops him. I can’t stop, he tells her. Did you see how she trembled? This is my fault, he cries, they’re holding her because she’s my sister. This always happens. I can’t protect my loved ones! Ceylin says, we won’t be able to save Defne like this. Please don’t do this.
This always happens, Ilgaz repeats. I was working here when you were kidnapped. She holds his face in her hands, bana bak—look at me. You saved me. We will save her, too, okay? You will find her. She hugs him while he cries.
Pars and Eren replay Defne’s video, looking for any clues. Eren exclaims, how they do this to a child! Ilcey return from the bathroom. Ceylin thinks she spotted something and asks them to rewind. Look what she’s doing… she’s signing the word “fish”. I taught her that. Ilgaz says to go back to where she first started signing. She’s sending a message, but what is it? Eren says, maybe she’s near the water?
Ilgaz says to review every second carefully, isolate any sounds or voices. Look for stains or markings on the wall. Pars says to check the phone number. We’ll check with Selim about the Balkan Mafia. Eren assures Ilgaz they will find Defne.
The guilty parties arrive at the courthouse. Reporters are there. Gulcin is asked for a statement. Did you have any problems with the late bride? Why did you kill her? Did you kill the bride? Gulcin answers, I didn’t kill Ferda by myself. Selim and I killed her. Selim is stunned—what? Gulcin claims that Selim told her to give Ferda the pills. He got rid of her body.
What are you talking about, Selim exclaims, are you insane?! Hakki shouts at him to shut up! The guilty ones are hustled into the courthouse. The reporters clamor for more. Then the reporters swarm Yekta. Do you think your client provoked this? Yekta has no comment as he enters the courthouse.
Selim asks Gulcin why she lied to the press. She turns to him—didn’t you sell me out? You bastard! He denies it. Gulcin says, you got yourself a bride after paying off a gambling debt! Shameless! Yekta yells at them to shut up. Don’t say another word.
Pars wants to let Selim go. We’ll arrest him again after we find Defne. Eren says, we can’t follow him. What if we lose track of him? I don’t know, Pars replies, they’re desperate. It makes them dangerous. We need to be careful. We’ve obviously blown the lid off this criminal organization, Eren notes. They will try to cover everything up. Ceylin says that Selim must have evidence against them. [flash drive!]
Pars asks Ilgaz, what do we do? We have 7 hours. Ceylin asks Eren and Pars to step outside for a moment.
Pars wonders what Ilgaz is thinking. If Selim gets out, Eren replies, he’ll have released a criminal for his sister’s sake. It wouldn’t be the first time we have done that, Pars answers. Don’t we do that when someone’s life is in danger? Yes, Eren says, but he feels like he’s submitting to them. What’s worse, is he and Ceylin were going to end things over a similar situation. Now he has to do what he told her not to do.
What are you thinking, Ceylin asks Ilgaz, is this still a matter of honor and truth? You’ll release a criminal for your sister’s sake if necessary. Selim will walk away, and you won’t do anything about it. Maybe he’ll be kidnapped, and you’ll never find him again. Ilgaz, this is your test. As you can see, justice can’t always be done. It doesn’t always happen. You’ll learn that. You shouldn’t care about anyone, and you shouldn’t think about what others say.
I’ll do anything for Defne, Ilgaz says, I’ll do this, too. I’ll let Selim go. So what are you waiting for, Ceylin asks. I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to look you in the face again, he replies. You’ll figure that out, she says. She turns to go and he calls her back. He tells her, I’m sorry. For being so strict, for being… I’m sorry for hurting you, blaming you, for what I did… I don’t know if you’ll ever be able to forgive me. I won’t, she answers, I just want us to find Defne.
Ilgaz wants Selim brought back to the station. Let the others see he’s not going before the judge. Maybe we can get him to confess in the meantime. Pars thinks that’s a good idea. Ilgaz says they have until 6 and can still find a way to do this. If we find Defne, we won’t release Selim.
Cinar brings Eyup to the station. He says he saw Defne. What? Where? Ilgaz brings Eyup into Eren’s office for questioning. Pars heads to the courthouse, he wants to take Rafet along.
Eyup says he was looking for someone he knew but wasn’t sure if he still lived at the address. A dolmuş wouldn’t use that street because it’s a side road. It stopped near me, and a woman and a girl got out. It was Defne. The girl was crying a lot and the woman dragged her away, into a building on the same street. Eren asks if he’d be able to identify it. Yes.
Ceylin asks if Defne said anything. Eyup remembers she just said, “let me go.” She called out for her father. Then the woman took her away. I thought it was a typical mother-daughter argument. I didn’t know.
They leave Eyup in the room. Ilgaz asks Cinar how he knows him. From the pool hall, Cinar replies. Ilgaz says the press doesn’t know about Defne. Did you tell anyone? If you are planning something, if anything happens to you… Ceylin steps in and tells Ilgaz to calm down. You asked him and he answered. Cinar explains he’s a customer at the pool hall. He overheard the staff. He asked to see a picture and recognized Defne immediately. That’s it.
Eren asks, how do we know he’s telling the truth? I don’t know, Cinar answers. He came to me, and I brought him to you. I don’t know if he’s telling the truth or not. Ilgaz asks if he’s seen Eyup at the pool hall before. Cinar nods. Ceylin interjects, maybe he (Eyup) is being honest. Maybe Defne is there. Why are we still here? Eren says he doesn't trust Eyup. [should we? what do you think?]
Ilgaz says there’s a 50/50 chance he’s telling the truth. We can’t take that chance. Get him. Cinar wants to come along. Ilgaz gives in but tells Cinar he has to stay in the car.
They arrive at the street and Eyup points out the building. Ilgaz orders to search the building thoroughly. Let’s hope Defne is inside. Ilgaz breaks down the front door, runs into the building and calls out for Defne. Every space is checked. Eren reports it’s all empty.
Cinar, who never listens to what he’s told, gets out of the car. He looks up at the building. He notices something on a window. He calls out—Defne? Defne! And he runs into the building. Eyup has been observing him carefully. [who is this guy?!]
Ilgaz finds a crust of bread in one of the rooms. It’s maybe a day or so old. He wants Forensics to come investigate. Find stores where bread is sold and find out who bought some. Maybe it was the woman, and someone saw her. Eren sighs. There’s no sign of Defne. Maybe homeless people have been here. Maybe Defne was here, but there’s no trace of her.
Cinar rushes into the room with Eren and Ilgaz. Defne?! Defne isn’t here, Ilgaz says, and I told you to stay in the car. Cinar replies, Defne was here. Ilgaz is emphatic—no she wasn’t! Cinar looks at the window. Look, Ilgaz! There’s a sad face drawn in the dirty window. Defne did this, Cinar shouts, she was here!
And we are out.
Novelera, thank you for the recap.
Geez..Jacinto comes up to chat with dim Consuelo getaway driver, as she is waiting for Fausto. Did he see that Fausto got into her car?
Question : Dont Fausto and Connie have a bed ?? Do they sleep on that small living room sofa next to the front door? Great.
Please do not let Con wind up with kind, sweet , honest cop Jacinto . No, really writers...I am serious ....please !
Yes, Braulio is Fausto with cash. Exactly the same person.
Braulio is romancing Amelia ...so excited about adopting ....no you're not . ugh .
Love seeing Diego and Andres together . If only Diego could end up with Nuria.
William is playing a very low-key, sleepy Santi. Yawn Despierto.
Is Rosendo a good guy or a bad guy?
I think Kimberly Dos Ramos ( Liana) is prettier as a redhead than she is as a blonde .
Dondi, thanks for making all the twists and turns
clear.
Wow, Cinar spots something that eagle-eyed Ilgaz missed! At last, he proves useful.
I don't trust Eyup one bit. This is a trap, maybe to catch Ilgaz being corrupt or make him a puppet for the Balkan mafia.
That poor bride surrounded by nothing but vermin and users. Gulcin is ridiculous.
thanks novelera!
wow, Braulio just laid it all out there, the part where he set up Santi and let him do the time, that rips it.
Tigre doesn't seem to have a problem walking the dark side, but what's in it for him?
Alberto, Santi's high tech hacker, is played by Jorge Luis Pila.
Jacinto stopping by to chat with Consuelo (while she is the get away driver) was funny, and then later swinging by the house to tell her Andres is alive, but wait, that's just a hunch, and now is snooping for some dna trace of Andres while Fausto is home.
didn't anyone bother to tell Rosendo that Gaitan was fired (for embezzlement 5 years ago), and what are these shipments they are talking about?
there are a lot of twists in this show, keeps it interesting.
Wonderful, complete recap, dondi! I can't tell if you're watching the Turkish version and getting more or I'm losing it! I didn't get the part about Gulcin having a disabled husband's drugs to use to kill Ferda; I just thought she was a single woman obsessed with him. I loved Ilgaz trapping the witch by letting her think Selim had sold her out.
Was the scene with Gulcin telling Selim what she did in the dubbed into Spanish version? I don't remember that either. Must be losing it.
So...Selim said "again with that". Seems like she's been trying to convince Selim to be involved with her for a while.
Eyup, hmmm... I am having a hard time forgiving him his haircut. He has to be a baddie in some way. Why have they shown him following everyone in the dizi only for him suddenly to be a Good Samaritan? OTOH, could these writers have him be a good guy as a plot twist?
Aha, good thinking, dondi, about Selim having info on a flash drive on the Balkan gang as a way out. But I still don't see why in the world he didn't just call for help when he found Ferda. He was frantic, saying he was ruined. Both families pretty much knew Ferda didn't want to marry him, so it would have looked like suicide.
Well...I'm sure there will be flashbacks to enlighten us.
Thanks for commenting, Niecie and novelera.
“Wow, Cinar spots something that eagle-eyed Ilgaz missed! At last, he proves useful.” Lol. That’s once in 54 episodes. I won’t hold my breath for more.
“I don't trust Eyup one bit. This is a trap, maybe to catch Ilgaz being corrupt or make him a puppet for the Balkan mafia.” Very interesting speculation, Niecie!
novelera, when I recap a dizi, I’ll also check the original Turkish version, with English captions and with Turkish captions. I’m looking for edits and bad translations. I try to note when using something from the original. But I might forget. So, please ask.
Gulcin wasn’t specific about what she did when she told Selim, but he knew she did something bad and that’s why he hustled up to the room. It was too late.
“I still don't see why in the world he didn't just call for help when he found Ferda.” ITA, novelera.
“Eyup, hmmm... I am having a hard time forgiving him his haircut.” LOL. Eyup is a big question mark for all of us.
“I'm sure there will be flashbacks to enlighten us.” Count on it!
And what about that flash drive? Omer hasn’t told Yekta about it either.
Quote for Turkish ep #54: "When you become the ice you never feel cold again." - Karl Georg Büchner
Ilgaz and Eren stare at the window and realize Cinar is right. We’re going to find her, Ilgaz says. He tells Cinar to go back to the hospital. Eren says the forensics team is on the way.
Eyup asks Cinar if Defne was inside. No. Eyup swears they went into that building. Cinar says she was there but then she was moved. Eyup calls himself stupid, if he only said this sooner. Cinar tells him it’s okay. I hope the agents find clues that lead us to her.
Ilgaz questions Eyup. Did anything about the woman stand out to you? Was she a foreigner? Did she have an accent? [Telemundo dub: did she speak bad Spanish? Lol. Turkish: was her Turkish broken?] Eyup doesn’t really remember. Ilgaz says to take Eyup back to the station. Have him go over criminal photos.
[Note: They’ve been making quite a few out of order edits to the last two eps.]
Pars calls Ridvan and tells him to have security increased at the courthouse. Don’t let anyone get near Selim. And have the judge hear Selim’s case last. Talk to his assistant.
Tolga wants to help. Eren assigns him to review files.
Ridvan speaks to Judge Fikret’s assistant and has him push back Selim’s hearing. He walks past the accused parties without any acknowledgement and Yekta is wondering what the heck is going on.
Rat-fet is on the phone, slacking off in his office again. Eren runs in and tells him Pars is waiting for him outside and runs back out. What…what was that, Rafet replies, show some respect! Answer me! The Rat grabs his coat and goes out to Pars in the car. He gets no respect from Pars either. He gets in the AG’s car. [Ratfet acts like he’s Rodney Dangerfield, but he doesn’t deserve any respect.]
Vigil at the hospital. Gul is chastising the girls because they won’t eat the food she brought. Another interesting translation. Merve is not like a skeleton wearing clothes. She’s like a dress hanging on its hanger. Whatever…
Lacin is there with Gul. She says, sometimes I think Engin left a curse behind after his death. It burns whoever was near him. When we think things are okay, something else happens. I feel more guilty each day. I always feel like I should apologize.
Please don’t say that, Gul replies. If he was on the wrong path, it was his fault. How are you at fault? [this is a major change for Gul.] You’ve shown your kindness and shared our pain. You supported us in bad times. She places her hand on Lacin. We should thank you.
A doctor comes out looking for DA Derya. Everyone crowds around her and asks about Metin. She wants to speak with Derya first. Derya is down the hall in an office.
The doc tells Derya they are going to wake Metin up in 30 minutes. Derya asks, is he better? Not exactly, the doc answers. We’re going to wake him to see how he’s doing. We want to see how his organs function off the machines. There’s a chance he will wake up, and you told us anything he says will be important.
Merdan wanders outside. He has his phone in hand. A cop rushes over. Merdan asks him, do you have any news? Has my granddaughter been found? How’s Metin? I haven’t heard from the hospital. The cop says if she was found, they’d be the first to know. Merdan is upset. The cop helps him to sit down. He’s worried they are keeping bad news from him. They give him some water and promise to tell him if they hear anything.
They cut the rest of Merdan’s scene. Merdan goes back into the yard and kittens are on the path. He tells them, without Defne, you’re left hungry. [Oh, the sweet little meows!] He picks one up and cuddles it. Defne will come back and look after you, okay? He pours his water into a dish. There’s food there, too. You really feel Merdan’s hope and heartbreak.
Pars and Rafet arrive at the courthouse. The press swarms. No comment.
Ceylin arrives at the hospital. I think Derya called her. She asks, what happened? Is Metin awake? Derya says no, we’re waiting. The doctor comes out. We woke him up. He’ll be awake for 5 minutes. After that, we’ll decide whether to sedate him. Only one person can go in. Derya lets Ceylin go.
Ceylin enters the ICU. Metin Baba? Can you hear me? No response. She holds his hand. There’s not much time. Did you see the people who did this to you? Do you remember what they looked like? Metin responds, stained nails… they had stained nails. Ceylin asks how. Were the fingers dark, stained like paint? Stained with hair dye. Metin mumbles… hairdresser.
Do you remember the incident, Ceylin asks. I think he doesn’t. You’ll be okay, she tells him, I’ll come back again. Metin grabs her hand. Ceylin… Defne… how is she? Ceylin lies, Defne’s okay. She’s home. Machines start beeping, the doctor comes in and asks Ceylin to leave. The doctor checks. Maybe something needed to be reset. She tells Ceylin everything is fine.
Judge Fikret’s assistant calls Yakup in. Yekta starts to protest. Yakup’s lawyer shuts him down. Yekta goes over to Ridvan. What did you do with the files? Something happened. My client was supposed to go first but the order changed. What do you think happened? How would I know, Ridvan replies. The judge is doing his job. If you have questions, ask him. Ridvan walks away. Yekta mutters, I am a former civil servant, and I never lost a file. [Yekta worked for the state?]
Ceylin tells Derya that Metin said their fingers were stained brown. I asked if the person was a hairdresser, he said yes. Derya wonders, what is the connection? Did the doctor say he’s getting better? Ceylin says no, that’s all I was told. I’ll tell Ilgaz. Derya says she’ll go to the courthouse.
Gul asks Ceylin how Metin is doing. She replies, he can barely speak. But I know he will recover. You should call Merdan. He’s worried sick. Ceylin asks to speak with Lacin. She tells her that Defne is missing and Yekta is representing those men. If you hear anything, if Yekta talks about them, please tell me.
Ilgaz asks Eren, do we have the statements from the people at the casino? Yes, Eren replies, but no one has ever met the bosses. We have no leads. A very frustrated Ilgaz says they’re stuck in the same place as yesterday. I just want to find Defne, he says, and I feel like I’m missing something. Just one thing!
Eren tries to be encouraging. We never thought this would happen. We’ll find Defne and Chief Metin will recover. Nothing will erase what happened, Ilgaz says, Defne won’t forget what happened to her because of me, much less Ceylin. Life grabbed me by the neck and slapped me in the face. It made me face how strict I was. Ceylin felt just as desperate due to Parla’s situation, but I couldn’t see it.
But you see it now, Eren says, despite what’s going on. That’s your virtue. You’ll find a way to fix it, okay? Sit and rest and I’ll get something to drink. [I can’t believe Ilgaz equates Defne with Parla. Defne is innocent. Parla’s stupidity got her into trouble and Ceylin was helping her flee.]
Ridvan informs Pars that the judge ruled Yakup will be released on bail. And Hakki went before the judge and Yekta is with him. Ridvan says that Yekta is suspicious. He asked about the order of the cases. Pars says this is only the beginning, more questions will come. We have to get Selim out of here.
I can talk to the assistant and explain the situation, Ridvan suggests, he can say the judge is sick and it will be postponed until tomorrow. Pars thinks that’s a good idea. Don’t do anything until the others are arraigned. No one can know. The press will be watching… what do we do about Selim? Should we take him out the back?
Rafet offers, that’s easy. I’ll escort him away. Are you sure, Pars asks. I’m sure, Rafet replies, I’m an old hunter. No one will know. Okay, Mr. Hunter, Pars snarks. Ridvan goes to speak with the judge’s assistant. Pars shows some hospitality to Rafet. You’ll be here a while, so I’ll host. Can I get you a tea? Rafet is very pleased to be asked and takes a seat. Pars is about to put in the tea order when there’s a knock at the door. It’s Derya. Pars orders 3 teas.
Ceylin comes to the station. Eyup gives her the once over as she passes by. Ilgaz asks her, how is my father? I told you on the phone, she replies. You talked to him, Ilgaz says, what do you think? Ceylin doesn’t give her opinion on that. She gets to business. He said he saw a man’s hand and that his nails were stained. Like those of a hairdresser who dyes hair. A brown, henna-like tint. A hairdresser?
Eren says, let’s look for hairdressers of Balkan origin. Tolga was reviewing files, right? Ilgaz calls him in. have you found any hairdressers in the files you’ve reviewed? No. What now? Ilgaz says it’s noon and there’s no time to investigate.
Ceylin has an idea—Ayten! Your downstairs neighbor. She used to be a nurse, now she’s a hairdresser or manicurist. Maybe she knows something. She’s not currently working in a salon but… I hear she can do all kinds of work. Ceylin calls her.
Ayten needs to be careful since she’s at Tilmen Law. She ducks into a stairwell to take the call. Ceylin asks her if she knows salons that hire Balkan staff. She does. I’m not sure of the exact address, she says, but there’s one in Kustepe, Blue Anemone. Ayten asks why, but Ceylin ends the call.
Ceylin tells the guys about Blue Anemone. What does that mean, Ilgaz asks. Don’t you remember, she replies, the logo of the casino chip was an anemone. That’s it! Get the address! Get the teams ready! Eren rushes out. Ilgaz is grateful to Ceylin.
Hakki is released on bail. Yekta assures Selim he will be too. The judge’s assistant comes out and calls for Gulcin. Yekta objects—it’s our turn next! Gulcin and her lawyer enter the room. Yekta complains loud enough for Ridvan to hear it down the hallway.
Ceylin looks at Eyup and asks Ilgaz, what is he doing? Ilgaz says he’s looking at photos of criminals of Balkan origin. What do you think of him, she asks. He’s trying to help, Ilgaz replies, but… I’m not sure.
Eren’s got the salon address. They head out.
Gulcin is remanded into custody.
Yekta says it’s our turn now. The assistant comes out and says, we can’t see Selim today. The judge has become sick. Yekta questions this. He looked fine when he saw Hakki. I hope it’s nothing serious. Me too, says the assistant and he goes back into the room.
Rafet wanders over to Selim. Well, well, here’s the groom. Since the judge won’t see you today, come with me. Yekta says, that’s rather quick, Chief Rafet. When did you find out the hearing would be delayed? Did you forget to tell us about your telegraphic powers? Rafet says he overheard because his hearing is very good.
Yekta questions this coincidence. No, Rafet replies, I was having tea with AG Pars. That’s when I heard Selim’s hearing was delayed. Since I was here, I figured I’d return him to the station… if you don’t mind. You were having tea with AG Pars, Yekta asks in disbelief. Yes, Rafet says, is that a problem? It’s a gesture of comradery. Sana ne? What’s it to you? Let’s go. Rafet takes Selim. Yekta whispers to Omer, follow them and find out what’s going on.
Hakki is concerned. Yekta explains that these things happen sometimes. There’s nothing you can do. Go home and I’ll keep you informed.
Omer follows Rafet and Selim. He pretends to make a phone call, but he takes a video of them getting in the car and driving away.
Derya is still in Pars’ office. I made a decision, she tells him. He doesn’t even look up from his desk—sure of course you did. You decided something that affects my life without taking the time to talk to me. Yes, that’s normal, of course. Why do you talk like this, she replies, you know of my decision. I was very clear. Pars asks, so that should be enough for me? All the pain we’ve experienced, everything we’ve been through, but we have yet to discuss it. You’re doing your thing and everything is fine.
What are you doing, Derya asks. You won’t even look at me. He finally looks up. Okay, I’ll look at you… and what? She jumps from her chair and turns away from him. He gets up and says, maybe it’s because of your attitude. You ignore me, you shut me out. Our baby is on the line. Is it really that simple?
Derya snaps back, simple? How can you say it’s simple for me? You were almost killed in front of me! I had flashbacks to that horrible day! What if something happened to you? I can’t sleep at night. I can’t breathe when I think about it.
Okay, Derya, Pars replies, this isn’t the time or place to discuss these things. We’re just hurting each other. Defne will be back at 6p, safe and sound. Let’s get some fresh air… and then we’ll be able to talk calmly. She agrees they need to talk.
Ridvan knocks on Pars’ door. Chief Rafet got Selim out through the back door. Pars asks, what did Yekta say? What do you think, Ridvan replies, he opposed it at first, but it was carried out according to your orders. No problems for now.
Omer comes back with the info. Rafet took Selim out the back door. Yekta tells Omer, the judge isn’t sick. They’re working in secret. They’re going to release him because of DA Ilgaz’s sister. Yekta Tilmen will win again. Omer thinks so too. Yekta says, these people don’t know about that, but they know how to leave a trail. Now you’ll be able to learn from the master himself. Watch and learn how to discredit an AG, a DA, and a Komiser.
Yekta sits next to Gulcin. He sighs, you’re just another victim. You really lucked out. The blame was placed squarely on you. In all my years as a lawyer, I have never seen anything like it. May God save you and give patience to those left behind.
Gulcin panics. What are you saying? This is my fault? My sense of justice can’t be silenced, Yekta replies, even if it hurts my client. It speaks to me at night before bed. It’s very loud. [lol.] You saw how Selim was escorted away. He’s going to be released. Gulcin is shocked. Yekta claims, he got away with it. Even though he’s guilty, sadly, you’re the villain.
Gulcin jumps from her seat and shouts, Selim dumped Ferda’s body! If he were innocent, he would have called an ambulance! Yekta shushes her and gets her to sit back down. Gulcin did exactly what Yekta wanted.
Yekta continues to pour poison into Gulcin’s ear—some stories need a scapegoat. You know, so they can close the case. She asks, so he walks, while I serve a sentence? Yekta replies, what’s worse, is no one will know. They’ll probably hide this. This secret will stay between you and me. This conversation never happened, he warns. It’s forbidden, it’s unethical. But that’s just me, I can’t help it. [the most honest thing he’s ever said.] Allah kurtasın, geçmiş olsun.
Yekta returns to Omer, with a look that says “Wasn’t I great? How did you like that?” Omer says, it worked. She’s angry. When you get back to the office, write it down, Yekta tells him, you will never find anyone more reckless than a spiteful lover.
Blue Anemone. A woman sweeps up. She tells a man who is counting a lot of TL with stained fingers and a bandaged hand, if there are no more clients, I’ll leave early. He says she can go.
Eren enters the salon. Don’t move, you’re coming with me to the station. The man opens a drawer, there’s a gun. Eren stops him. I’m just putting away the money, he says. The woman starts to complain. The man says, it will be alright sister. [In the Turkish I heard “yenge” which would be more like SIL.]
Ilcey are watching from their car. Ceylin asks, do you think she’s the one who kidnapped Defne? Don’t know, Ilgaz replies, but Eyup might be able to identify her. He said he would.
The search warrant comes through for the salon. Eren sees the gun in the drawer. Counting money? More like hiding it, Eren says.
Back at the station, Ilgaz asks Eyup if he could identify anyone. No. Ilgaz tells him a man and a woman are on their way in. We need to know if she’s the woman who took Defne. Eyup looks at the two. He says, that’s the woman. He’s sure. And the guy is the one who was driving the dolmuş.
Rafet leads Selim into the station. Ilgaz goes to Selim and grabs him—so you’re not involved? You didn’t do anything? Those men will release my sister if I release you. What have you got on them?! Answer!
Selim keeps his mouth shut. Ilgaz asks, what are you hiding so they will protect you? How are you blackmailing them? Ilgaz tells Selim, I hope I see you out there someday, inshallah! Take him to his cell! Let him breathe but nothing else!
Eren tells Ilgaz that the man they brought in had a knife in his pocket. His hand was injured, like he’d been in a fight. Ilgaz concludes that bastard stabbed Metin. He rushes off. Bravo, bravo, Ceylin tells Eren, fill him in before he questions him! Eren says he’s going to find out anyway.
Ilgaz sits across the table from the suspect. Turkish staring contest begins.
And we are out.
Thanks again, dondi. I really appreciate all the extra details. This second season is un rompecabeza (difficult puzzle).
Ceylin definitely had her thinking cap on in this episode. Perhaps it's because, while she can't forgive Ilgaz, she loves Defne and admires and respects Metin.
Ridvan seemed to use some personal connection to the judge's assistant to help Our Team.
Loved the Rodney Dangerfield reference vis a vis Ratfet.
Yes, Gul seems to be turning into Good Granny instead of vengeful hag.
It interests me the way the cops guarding Metin's house seem to respect Merdan. I think it's because the body he disposed of was a useless murderer.
The brain trust of Ilgaz, Ceylin, and Eren seems to work like a well tuned engine. They are greater than the sum of their parts.
I think Ceylin's mind jumps to Ayten's being a hairdresser because she's the one who installed her as a spy in Yekta's office. That was really brilliant of Ceylin to connect the name of the salon with the image on the poker chip.
As always I have a problem figuring out police station vs courthouse. So...if Yekta was told Selim was going back to holding because the judge was ill, why is Ratfet driving him somewhere suspicious, causing Yekto to jump to the conclusion that they're releasing him? Wouldn't that be normal, assuming a distance between the two places?
Who is Eyup working for? If he's working for the Balkan mob by spying on our protagonists, why would he out the pair in the salon?
As always, some answers and more questions.
El Conde is still listed as upcoming. Ugh.
There will be yet ANOTHER season of El Señor de los Cielos. Will this ever end?
There will also be a new novela called Mujer de Oro. Some widow (Rebecca, I think) will inherit her husband's fortune, who of course died mysteriously. And just like every grieving widow, she is in a relationship with her personal trainer. But there's a catch; she doesn't actually inherit the fortune. Her dead husband left it to his first wife and to Rebecca's daughter. I'm pretty sure it's an original story.
Are you guys interested in any of those? Mujer de Oro sounds good - I'll check out El Conde when it comes out too.
Thanks a bunch, Dondi. I watched Friday's epi but I must've been interrupted because I didn't catch a lot of what you covered. Gracias for all the details.
If Eyup is legit, seems to me his life would be endangered publicly identifying the culprits.
Always fun to have Yekta foiled and disrespected. Who knew Rafet could be helpful.
