It was another combo tonight. Episodes #28/#29.
After seeing them kiss, Paloma's parents tell her and Franco they never realized they were that close. Paloma says nothing is going on. Franco half agrees but then assures her parents that he has nothing but serious intentions with their daughter That comes as a surprise to Paloma. After the interchange, her parents admit their concern to each other about Paloma getting involved with Franco but are confident that they will think of something to deal with Franco like they did with her earlier novios. Later, Franco admits to Paloma that when he sees her she is like magic to him but is at a loss as what to do. He needs a tutorial. She has a fix and kisses him. They agree to give their relationship a try. Later, she sees him looking at Dulce's social media. She asks him why he is looking at it.
Yaneli's teacher has not forgotten about her and continues to harass her at her job even though she tells him that her tuition has been paid. He asks her how she is going to pay her tuition for the months ahead.
Leandro tells Amanda there is really nothing he can do about her internet bank fraud case.
Kiro is back in communication with the brat. It sounds like they could be making plans to go to a concert in the future.
Pablo and Carmina take Pablito to the doctor where the doctor says his treatment is going very well. Everyone is happy with Pablito's improvement. Things are looking good until Carmina pays the doctor another visit and explains her situation with her failing marriage. She wants the doctor to lie and tell Pablo that Pablito is much sicker than he is so he will stay with her because of his son. She is willing to pay whatever his price might be. The doctor balks and refuses. He will not be threatened. Carmina opens her coat and is naked underneath. She starts screaming that the doctor is trying to rape her and goes running out in the hallway where Nancy is recording the whole scene. Nancy makes sure the doctor sees the video and threatens to make it viral so they can keep him under control.
Carmina is all cooperative with Damián and the move to Mexico City. She is not asking for anything in the divorce. He explains that the house is for her a Pablito and that he will be moving out to an apartment nearby to be close to Pablito. In order to prove that she is still on his side in his search for Damián, Carmina tells Pablo that a friend of hers said that she saw Damián working at a business a few months ago. She agrees to take him there to see if Damián is still there. They go on the wild goose chase. The address is for a beauty salon. Pablo wonders why Damián would be working there.
Leandro brings the brat to a special dinner at his father's house to introduce her to the family and to tell them all that she is now a Govea. The brat is her usual snappy self and Everardo is totally taken with her or so it seems. She and Leandro do not know that earlier Everardo expressed his concern to Amanda that Leandro was giving the family name to a girl he didn't even know was his.
Unfortunately, Manuela cannot deal with the brat living with Leandro and is taking him to court for removing her child from her home illegally. She tries to explain all of this to the brat and adds that the only reason Leandro is doing all of this is to hurt her. She doesn't want the brat to be hurt in the process. (IMHO this was WAY TOO MUCH INFO to give to a child) The brat says she will never talk to her again unless she drops the lawsuit against her father. The brat blames her for everything as does Leandro when Leandro and his lawyer and Manuela and her lawyer meet to try to reach some sort of agreement so they do not go to court. He makes Manuela one proposal. It is for her to come live with him and the brat at his apartment. Manuela CAVES and agrees to live with the brat and Leandro.
Jarifa, thank you for marvelous recap that you peppered with wise observations and questions.
The biggest surprise to me was when Paloma caught Franco "...looking at Dulce's social media. She asks him why he is looking at it". Why indeed!? Is that a red flag or a red herring? Inquiring minds need to know.
I've never understood why people try so desperately to hang onto someone who clearly no longer loves them (if they ever did) or wants them. Carmina and Leandro are two examples; both ruthless and relentless.
Everardo was clearly charmed by Julieta, pride reflected in his cold and reptilian eyes.
I can't imagine what Manuela is going through so I will try hard not to judge too harshly. Leandro was determined to make Manuela bend to his will despite the fact she was clear she does not want a relationship with him. Leandro is basically blackmailing Manuela, no minor manipultation here.
However, as reprehensible as Leandro's actions are, it was Julieta who ultimately betrayed her. By telling her mother she won't talk to her unless she drops the lawsuit, Julieta reached a new low, even for her. She is a headstrong, willful and cruel child. Julieta choosing Leandro over her mother who has loved and cared for her, her entire life was heartbreaking. Still, I would never have capitulated and agreed to move in with them.
Will we ever see Damian???
Diana
Gracias, Jarifa. I really object to the slicing and dicing, especially with the density of this series' stories.
I think Franco might be trying to help Paloma. I hope I'm right about that because it would disappoint me if the writers would be so cruel to Paloma, us, and Carlos Ferro to make Franco a dangerous perv. Since there is a track record of Paloma's parents ruining her love life for their own selfish reasons I want to see them found out and made to pay.
Since Leandro has no honorable intentions toward Manuela or Lorena it's time that the two women compared notes and make him pay the piper. Should we also suspect him of having had something to do with Amanda's bank account getting hacked?
The Brat is very immature for her age. A fifteen-year-old should be more knowledgeable about human relationships and in our time should have a few school friends with divorced or single parents. Manuela should have told her why she didn't have a father, but it also looks like neither she nor her mother didn't think this through. There are always consequences when such things are kept secret.
Yaneli needs serious help but now Manuela -- the most qualified of the others -- has too much crap to deal with.
Jarifa, thank you for another excellent report on all the trouble and woe.
I hope that Franco is going to help Paloma solve the mystery of Dulce. Paloma deserves some help and happiness after all the damage her parents have so selfishly done to her life.
Carmina and her sister will pull out all the stops in her need to hold onto Pablo, including blackmailing the poor doctor .
Manuela , Leondro, and Bratty Mcbraterson living under the same roof should be interesting . What will happen when Jul eventually see Leondro's feet of clay? Susan
I am so happy that the action has finally picked up and wakened me up. I wonder how long this Univision slice and dice is going to go on. So far, it look like Christmas Day is the only day that they are taking off from evening novelas in the next two weeks. As of now, it is regular programming even on New year's Day. Maybe that will change. With Univision, anything is possible even at the last minute.
Diana, thank you! "Everardo was clearly charmed by Julieta, pride reflected in his cold and reptilian eyes." Perfect! Everardo does have something of the reptile about him. "Julieta choosing Leandro over her mother who has loved and cared for her, her entire life was heartbreaking. Still, I would never have capitulated and agreed to move in with them." I have seen children of divorce do this in real life and they usually learn quite quickly that the grass isn't greener. I see Manuela going to live with Leandro as a sign of weakness. She is not being a good role model having no boundaries and or any self-respect. Is she why the brat is the brat she is? It is hard to believe that she is doing social work/psychological work with women who have been abused. Yikes! Her clients should run and find another advisor.
Urban, "Since Leandro has no honorable intentions toward Manuela or Lorena it's time that the two women compared notes and make him pay the piper." I am hoping this happens, too. I like Lorena and give her credit for moving out and filing for divorce. I do not think that Leandro had anything to do with Amanda's account but then again who knows if Everardo got him to do his bidding???
"Yaneli needs serious help but now Manuela -- the most qualified of the others -- has too much crap to deal with." Again this has a parallel with Rayo (*Vencer la ausencia"), who Susan brought up yesterday. In "Ausencia", all of the other women pledged her their support but when push came to shove, nobody had any time for her. The big difference is that Rayo was only fifteen. Here is hoping that Yaneli doesn't just fall by the wayside because of everyone else's " problems."
Some cause problems, some try to solve them, some take the blame for them - Part 1/4
There were mostly 3 plot lines developed in this episode. Since there was SO much back and forth, I'll group similar scenes together.
The intoxication of the miners
Everyone's gathered up at hospital. The miners aren't in the best condition, the most severe being Ramiro's. Roberta pretends she's sorry and worried and whatnot until Victoria enters. Then, she says she told her they shouldn't have made the food corner, but she insisted. She pretty much shifts the blame to Victoria, something the wives and mothers of the miners are more than eager to accept. I'd say that requires beanie tightening, but since people are known to be allergic to the truth and so accepting of lies, it's believable. Sebas is by Victoria's side, as always. They try to calm the situation down.
Later, the wives/mothers (W/M for short) are blaming Victoria in front of Zaira and Tigre. Zaira defends Vic, but the W/M have made up their mind. Ramiro's wife isn't there with them, I guess she's in a separate room or something, because one of the W/M tells Zaira to go tell these things to Ramiro's wife and that she would have been right there with them, blaming the engineer, if something had happened to Tigre. They leave.
Emilia and Sebas are wondering about the intoxication. The food was in perfect condition! How could it have happened?
A doctor informs Ramiro's wife about her husband's condition. There was some change in his condition for the worse and they can't rule out the possibility of him dying. That was it for Ramiro's wife. She starts screaming at Victoria, accompanied by the ever present W/M group. Zaira and Tigre see this, so do Sara and Roberta. Roberta is smiling and Tigre wonders why. Even Sara asks Roberta if she's going to defend Vic, to which Roberta replies "I can't defend her if she's guilty". Tigre comes along and asks her "aren't you at least going to give her the benefit of the doubt?" and says something about being decent. Roberta says he never considered her a decent woman and Tigre replies that she got worse.
As always, reporters have somehow heard the story and arrive at the hospital. Although the police woman looking reporter who popped up every time something happend to Emilia to make her look bad isn't there. Too bad. Anyway. The reporters twist everything Victoria and Sebas say, for example, when Victoria says they're working to fix the problems, the reporters ask her if she says she took over a problematic company and when she replies no, they ask her if the problems started when she took over. Madness. The W/M group are definitely NOT helping the situation; they just keep repeating they know Victoria is guilty. Leo arrives and things get worse (I wonder why). Sebas and Victoria leave this mess to Leo, who IIRC was the one who told Vic to leave. He tells the reporters he'll answer all of their questions. Sara starts walking towards him.
At first, she just stands next to him. Later, she tries to calm the group down by saying she's a mother and a wife too and understands their concern blah blah. The group, at first say "it's easy to only talk" or something and then blame Victoria again. One of them says that Leo and Ignacio always showed great concern for the miners. The perfect opportunity for Leo to defend Victoria by saying something like "then you should believe me when I say that señora Victoria is doing everything possible to discover whose fault was the intoxication and she's concerned as I am for the miners's safety", but did he? Of course not. He just stood there, as he has been doing for the last 20 episodes.
Some cause problems, some try to solve them, some take the blame for them - Part 2/4
Orlando and his bar
Aleida is in the restaurant-bar when she sees Flor slipping something in some gentleman's hand, looking suspiciously like a paperbag-colored drug package. Al asks Flor about it, but at least she's smart and tells her she's asking because she's interested. Flor relaxes a bit and says it's something to calm people down, IIRC. Al asks her how much it is, Flor replies it's only 500 pesos (30 bucks). Al pays and opens the package (after Flor left), looks inside and says "it can't be [true]" while looking at Orlando.
Later, Orlando tells her that his dad is something like a business partner in the bar. Al asks about Flor and says it's good there's so much trust between him and his employees. She leaves and almost bumps into Fidel. Fidel asks Orlando about her and he says she's a partner of Victoria from when she was in Spain. Al sees them talking and is trying to eavesdrop, but I don't know if she heard their conversation.
Another scene with Fidel and Orlando, this one confused me a bit. Fidel gave Orlando some cash, that's quite a lot, from his business. Orlando tells him not to involve him in his business and Fidel insists that he earned it, he could buy Jenny a gift. Orlando says he shouldn't involve Jenny into this. Fidel ignores him and leaves. Now I'm confused. Does Orlando know about the drug business that's going on in his bar? Is he aware of the product being drugs? He can't know about Flor helping Fidel. I'm lost. If someone remembers, please write what's going on.
Fidel hasn't been out of our screens for 10 seconds when the angry W/M group arrives, Ramiro's wife in the lead, who scream about the intoxication. They say they'll go to the precinct and Orlando says there's no reason to, he'll take them.
Aleida tells Danilo about the drugs. She defends her son about it, saying he doesn't know about it. Dan is more sceptical and says he might have found it tempting or something. Al insists that she knows her son, he wouldn't do that.
Some cause problems, some try to solve them, some take the blame for them - Part 3/4
Marijó-Gael, the intoxication of the miners (cont'd) + Extras
Marijó tells Joaquina about being Gael's girlfriend and not being able to find her clothes. Jo flashes back to the time when she saw Cayetana holding Mar's clothes. She doesn't tell anything to Mar about this, instead she warns her about love being beautiful, but painful. They search for a shirt to give Gael.
Gael, meanwhile, is talking to Nico about Emilia and Victoria. He says Emilia will always protect him (Nico), but he should do him a favor and not speak to the engineer (Victoria) like this. Nico agrees. Mar enters holding the shirt, which we later learn it was Mauricio's and Gael refuses it because "it belongs to her family" or something. He takes it at the end. They decide to watch a movie, all together with Romina.
They watch their movie and the kids ask them when they'll get married. They say it's too early. Gael adds that it costs a lot and Mar that you have to find the right guy. Gael decides to go to the bathroom when things get too romantic.
Cayetana is happy she got her nails done. Jo, on the other hand (put not intended), is not. She asks her why she took Mar's clothes. Cayetana made some stupid excuse about having to wash them the first time, which she repeats now. Jo lets her know she doesn't buy this stuff and warns her to be careful not to get fired by Roberta. She tells her about Gael being there and that Mar, the kids and he are watching a movie now and they should prepare their food. Cayetana is all whiney like a toddler as she cuts.. what the heck is that thing?
Tigre calls Gael and informs him of the intoxication. He goes to leave when he bumps into Cayetana. She completely ignores Joaquina's warning and comes on to Gael, asking him which one of the two, she or Marijó, is a better kisser and does her presentation. He pulls away and Cayetana leaves seconds before Marijó comes to find him. Gael tells her about the intoxication and leaves.
Roberta is praying with some W/M for the miners. Very carefully, she slyly says it might not have been an accident and immediately mentions they needed Victoria to save the mines. Very sneaky, Roberta. She leaves the women and tells a worried Patricio that she wants the poison to be detected so she can blame Victoria. Patricio smiles.
The rest of the W/M, the ones who went to Orlando, are in the precinct with him. The police woman is pretty much refusing to proceed with the lawsuit (? I think they want to sue him) until Ezequiel comes, who looks like he got a second birthday when he hears about the intoxication. He ARRESTS Orlando. The W/M want Victoria arrested as well!
Emilia tells Sebas she fell in the trap like a fool. She just wants to tell Nico the truth, hug him and leave with him. Sebas is there for her and asks her to be his girlfriend AGAIN, which Emilia refuses AGAIN. Sebas tells her he's tired of playing and it's better if they take some time away from each other. He leaves as Emilia says his name. I mean, I get Sebas is feeling weird "seeing her cry over another man", as he said, but Emilia has told him she doesn't love him many times before. While I understand it's tough for him, he can't dictate Emilia's feelings.
Zaira sees a woman she knows, who's now working in the hospital. That woman, whose name I don't remember, agrees to let them see the miners, because Zaira once helped her father, gave him some sort of treatment. She adds that only Tigre can enter because of the wheelchair, if I got it correctly because he'll be easier to hide? Anyway, Tigre tells Zaira to go home and rest, Gael will be back home in a bit too. She leaves.
Some cause problems, some try to solve them, some take the blame for them - Part 4/4
Intoxication, Marijó-Gael + Extras
Leo is asking someone from Orlando's restaurant-bar about the food. No important info, except from the dude saying that the cleaning ladies cleaned up everything.
Leo talks to the cleaning ladies. They say Victoria ordered them to clean up everything. Leo asks them if they're sure and they insist. Leo stares into nothingness, his favourite hobby. If he actually believes Victoria, which he legit said to himself he knows is Emilia, intoxicated the miners, I'll seriously consider writing a complaint letter to Televisa.
And as we suspected, the cleaning ladies were followed orders from Patricio, who pays them well for their services. They call him Patrón, which got me thinking I'd love if Patricio betrays Roberta in the end because he realises he wants to be a Patrón and not just someone who follows orders. He'll fail, of course, but I'd like it.
Gael, meanwhile, is at the entrance of Roberta's house, ready to leave, when Roberta almost runs him over, accidentally, with her car. She looks like she hit her head on the steering wheel, not seriously though. Like her permanent brain damage called "evil" wasn't enough. Anyway, for some reason she sees Gael as the dead Mau, gets out of the car and starts touching his face saying "you're alive!" She has a very tender look on her face, such a contrast to her personality! I was almost creeped out by the sudden change. Gael looks a bit creeped out too and he honestly doesn't know what to do. As suddenly as she saw him as Mau, she starts seeing who is really is, Gael and freaks out. She asks him why was he touching her to which he makes a great point: "Uh, Patrona, you were the one who was touching me". She apparently thinks this is unimportant because she doesn't comment further; Gael finds this a good time to tell her he wants them to talk. Roberta spots Mau's shirt and starts screaming like a loca about her son's clothes being worn by dirty miners. She freaks out so bad that she PULLS THE SHIRT OFF GAEL. He's left shirtless (and shocked) as she screams at him to leave, the shirt still in her hands. Poor Gael leaves and Roberta is left touching the shirt.
He goes home and Zaira says he can't have been watching a movie with his friends and leave at this state; where was he really at? Gael lies about his friends stealing his clothes. Zaira buys it and he goes inside. Gigí arrives with a bouquet of flowers and tells her about Jenny's baby. She wants to learn the gender to buy baby clothes. Zaira doesn't want to read the cards, but agrees after Gigí insists.
Marijó thanks Joaquina for the meal. She leaves and Roberta enters, throwing the shirt on the table Joaquina was cleaning. Joaquina asks her what she can do for her. Roberta, being her sweet self, slaps Joaquina with all her power and screams at her that she should never ever give Mauricio's clothes to dirty miners.
And with Joaquina holding her cheek and Roberta enraged, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
"I see Manuela going to live with Leandro as a sign of weakness. She is not being a good role model having no boundaries and or any self-respect. Is she why the brat is the brat she is?" is a penetrating, excellent question Jarifa. I hadn't really considered this but I think you are (sadly) right. She has debased herself by agreeing to go to Leandro's. I can only hope she may be someone who can dispense sage and wise advice to others but fails to follow what she preaches?
Urban, as Jarifa pointed out, your quote about Yaneli needing help but Manuela is otherwise preoccupied was spot on. Fingers crossed Lorena and Manuela talk, and soon.
Susan, I'm so glad you brought up Rayo. She was literally cared about but abandoned nevertheless. Sometimes we don't need words of support, but action. I keep hoping Amanda might ask Yaneli to live with her. Paloma's home is filled with freeloaders so she isn't an option.
Jarifa, thanks for the heads up about the current Uni scheduling. I had hoped we would get New Year's day "off", no such luck!!
Diana
Thanks Jarifa, another great morning read.
I was so disappointed in Manuela giving in to Leandro. After Julieta’s friends were talking about needing or wanting their mom in spite of any problems between them I was sure Julieta would do some thinking. I can see not wanting Leandro to have too much influence on her child, but she caved too fast. She needed to have faith that her child was bright enough to see through him eventually.
Another mystery, does Franco know Dulce?
Carmina was awful, the doctor needs to report her. Why cave to her crazy demands.
I was surprised that Julieta’s new family seems so taken with her. I didn’t know what she was saying that they thought was so amusing. I never thought Leandro wiped out her account but he did seem awfully casual about it when she told him. But I have always thought it was Everardo, so not a stretch to have Leandro help him.
I also want Manuela and Lorena to team up. We know he’s going to try and get those kids too
Liz
Weirdo, you did masterful justice to this episode, your recap was wise and riveting.
Aside from perfectly relating all the serious and troubling events that transpired (and grouping them in a cohesive manner), your humor shone like a much needed beacon of light, “Leo stares into nothingness, his favourite hobby” and “ I'd say that requires beanie tightening, but since people are known to be allergic to the truth and so accepting of lies, it's believable” being just several examples of many.
Victoria did manage to keep her cool despite things appearing quite dire. And while I hate to give Sara credit for anything, she did manage to somewhat quell the angry W/M’s who seem out for blood. As you astutely noted, Leo, whose words would have meant even more, stays silent, yet another long stride into the world of the unworthy galan.
“Now I'm confused. Does Orlando know about the drug business that's going on in his bar? Is he aware of the product being drugs?” Good question. I’m going to say no simply because I think Orlando is genuinely naive. But Aleida is understandably concerned but her insistence to Danilo that Orlando is not guilty seemed to indicate she wants to believe her own words but may have a tiny scintilla of doubt.
Ezequiel was practically salivating over arresting Orlando.
Oh Sebas, not again!! Dude, your unabated persistence will earn you Emilia’s attention (yet again) but all the begging in the world cannot and will not make her love you.
Roberta was definitely unhinged ripping Mau’s shirt off Gael’s body. Insanity may quietly bubble undetected but sooner or later it will make its way to the surface.
Does anyone else have a very uneasy feeling when Gigi insisted Zaira reads the cards???
Diana
Thanks, Weirdo, great retell of a distressing episode. I can’t believe they are talking jail for Victoria. I’m starting to feel she is no match for Roberta. And I can’t believe Ezequiel arrests and cuffs Orlando. Fidel is his boss and Orlando’s father. Does he think Fidel will be pleased with him. I’m hoping Fidel will start to turn on Roberta as he realizes she’s at the bottom of this.
Cayetano needs to go home and marry the man that was picked for her. She is just annoying.
Leo will help Victoria as much as he helped Emilia-he’ll do nothing but believe everything Roberta tells him.
Joaquina needs to decide she’s had enough and tell Leo what she knows about Roberta. Her keeping quiet all along is not helping the innocent people in the show. Plus Roberta is half crazy!
Liz
Diana: Super Excellent job with the recap of last night's episode. Joaquina keeping quiet will continue putting innocent people in serious deadly danger.
Liz: I don't see Joaquina telling Leo anything at all. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if Psycho Roberta kills her.
Gracias, amigas.
Cayetana is going to seriously make a fool of herself if she keeps this up.
We haven't seen anyone foiled yet by security cameras which doesn't seem realistic anymore.
Orlando is now on the firing line and I wonder whether Fidel has anything to do with it. He has no love for his son which makes him a perfect match in hell with Roberta. We have to hope he can't make her pregnant.
Am I the only person here who thinks that there should have been a different actress take over after the plastic surgery? Nothing against Livia, but she is very recognizable.
More later.
"Leo will help Victoria as much as he helped Emilia-he’ll do nothing but believe everything Roberta tells him" was perfect Liz!!
Steve, I can't take credit for last night's recap; our dear Weirdo wrote it.
"Am I the only person here who thinks that there should have been a different actress take over after the plastic surgery?" No Urban, your're not. It is and was a major sticking point. My heavens it was basically just a (bad) wig change.
Diana
Thanks so much, weirdo. Lack of sleep made me forget what happened even though I watched the episode.
I think I would be far angrier at Sebas if it didn't feel as if he was expressing my own frustration when he says he is tired of her cryingabout other man on his shoulder. I find it hard to believe a 'just friends' idea could work when one of the pair is in love. I'm a bit sick of Emilia talking about how broken she is and then thinking to herself she 'can't' love Leo. One man betrayed her, but if there's one thing I dislike it's dishonesty in such matters. She just appears overdramatic when I know what the truth is. Maybe I now dislike both Leo and Emilia?
I imagine Orlando doesn't know it's drugs specifically, but he did say he didn't want to take the money as he didn't know where it came from. I suppose that is going to save him, but how naive do you have to be not to notice shady things are going right under your nose? I mean, they made it worse by making Aleida be the one who immediately figured out something was up.
Leo being told Victoria is to blame for the poisoning feels like a repeat of the whole Emilia's situation.I somehow expect him to mess-up again. It's the situation where Sebas can't mess-up enough to reach Leo's level and so they can't spin it to make this the case of 'both are equal.'
I have a bad feeling about Zaira reading those cards.
i
Susan, "What will happen when Jul eventually see Leondro's feet of clay?" I don't know but it cannot happen soon enough! Then again I wonder if there is any hope for her. I loved how her friends couldn't believe that she would actually leave her MOTHER to go live with her father.
Liz, " Another mystery, does Franco know Dulce? " I love how the mysteries keep piling up! It was hard to tell what his reaction was when Dulce asked him about what he was looking at because he always seems to have that same hang dog look on his face. He is a very odd character.
Weirdo: AWESOME job on the recap of last night's episode.
Wake me up when Evil Fidel dies. The sooner he gets killed off, the better.
Waterlily: Zaira & those damn cards OMG.
Weirdo, Waterlily & Diana: One of y'all doing the recap of last night's episode ?
Merry Christmas! 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
What an episode! I can't believe Roberta still thinks Marijo will just do what she says. Now it feels she overestimated the power she has over people. But we'll see how long Fidel's resistance lasts. But it astonished me Roberta actually thought Mari was ungrateful when R got her money through blackmail. It's like she thinks doubling it should earn her a medal. If that's how narcisists' brains work, they are impossible to deal with. It's like talking to a wall.I can't stand watching Joaquina defend Roberta. Whatever R might have done to save her, there's a point where her behaviour makes her seem like a doormat.
Now I dislike both Emilia and Leonardo. Emilia is very selfish if she thinks she can use Sebas like this. I'm starting to think she never loved him in a romantic sense because he was always there and an 'easy' option. Leonardo, meanwhile, at first had a girlfriend and then Emilia had to deal with Roberta's schemes. I just want to shake Emilia. They make her say she can't forget Leo when in the same episode he also seems to believe she poisoned the miners. There's something very weird about the way relationships are shown in this telenovela. Maybe the women who wrote the script had been in unhealthy relationships or something.
Tigre's advice, while nice to hear, gives Sebas too much false hope. I'm sure he loved his wife, but it must have been a healthier love than Emilia's love for Leo because it feels more like an obsession and that's why she can't get over it. There's nothing nice to me here. This feels more and more like Invencible.
Sara can go straight to hell. What kind of person tells someone something like this and then expects them to just 'live the way you did for the last few years'. Then she whines to Jen about not being with a man who 'loves her'. The writers of this episode should have been sacked.
I know there's no recap yet but I got frustrated with the episode.
Weirdo, I am really looking forward to your sure to be spectacular recap!
In addition to falling asleep and missing the first 20 minutes, there were some things I wasn't clear on that transpired last night.
Waterlily, I don't know what exactly happened when Roberta went after Marijo or what Roberta and Joaquina's conversation was so I can't comment on that.
I missed Sara telling Dan he was Romi's father but saw the aftermath. I didn't know what she said to him so thank you for explaining. Sara is so frustrating.
Will comment more after the recap is up.
Diana
Thins a little longer than usual but I had some extra time.
This was a single episode and originally #30.
Franco tells Paloma not to be upset with him. Hearing her talk about her renter disappearing awakened his inner detective and he wanted to help look for her if she will allow him to help. He didn't want to ask her anymore about Dulce because he saw that it affected her and what affects her affects him. She says they have a suspect but that is all they know. They both wonder about Norma Pardo who was Dulce's guarantor. Paloma never contacted her for anything. They can find nothing about her on the social networks. Her Amibuk profile is private and has few followers. It looks like maybe Dulce put it together.
Franco admits that he almost never talks to his parents. Things happened that distanced them. Paloma says her problem is the opposite. She is so close with her parents that she feels guilty when she doesn't support them. What would she do without them? Franco comes by her place to tell her that they won the BiogeneLab contract for their firm. Paloma's parents give Franco a hard time. Unknown to anyone, Walter is back in town.
Manuela agrees to go live with the brat and Leandro soon . She makes it clear that she doesn't want him supporting her. He agrees to drop his suit for custody as she has dropped her lawsuit. He also is asking that she does not reveal to the brat that she feels like she is being forced to be there. She answers that sooner or later the brat is going to realize that she is there for her and not him.
Leandro tell the brat the good news about her mother. She is overjoyed. He adds that he always gets what he wants and he never loses anyone he loves.
Vicky does not support Manuela moving in with Leandro and the brat. Manuela insists she is doing it for her brat's sake. Her mother and uncles are not happy about her moving either.
Everardo has no use for Tamara's husband Nicolás but after hearing the she is having problems with him, warns her to not even think of adopting her mother's feminist ideas. Nico is the father of her children. No divorce for her! It is her job to keep the family going for her own and her children's sake. She calls him a machista. He doesn't want to hear about it. He asks her how her mother is doing with her her flea-ridden store. He bets she is very close to going out of business. He tells her to not even think of lending her mother money to help her. Tamara says she couldn't. All of her money is invested and she is close to liquidating her own house but there is a good chance of her and her no good hubby going away for the weekend. Everardo suggests asking her mother to baby sit the kids if she doesn't have plans with her decrepit novio.
Tamara asks Amanda to take care of the kids at Everardo's house (because it is larger than her apartment) and she agrees for the good of her grandkids. Yaneli is the one to remind her that she is taking care of her ex still as if she were his wife that her children are slackers who should be taking care of their own business.
Pablo meets with his lawyer Jorge. His company is ready to be sold for much more than he ever imagined. He never has to work again if he so chooses. Jorge brings up the possibility that none of the info Pablo has gotten through Carmina's "tip" is true. Pablo admits that is a possibility.
Things have cooled off between Amanda and Enrique as she continues to be controlled by her family's issues. Enrique is undergoing his own kind of stress with a poor granddaughter who is being bullied at school but not supported by her witchy mother. Enrique has not forgotten about Amanda.
Leandro's detective has identified Pablo. Even though Leandro thinks that once she is moved in Manuela won't be interested in Pablo anymore, he tells the detective to still collect as much info on him as he can.
Manuela breaks up with Pablo saying she has too much on her plate right now to get involved in a relationship. He doesn't even have a divorce yet. Pablo doesn't agree but his lawyer Jorge thinks it might be good to finish one relationship before starting another.
Manuela is only working at her job at the center now so she will be free in the afternoons for the brat. The brat is overjoyed she is going to live with them. Manuela makes it clear to Leandro that she is only moving in for her daughter's sake but Leandro choses not to get "the message" arranging a private time for the two of them with a bottle of champagne to celebrate her moving in.
After the fraud, Amanda is having problems paying her providers and her rent. What to do? Amanda asks Leandro for a loan and he agrees but only if she accepts Manuela. She makes it clear that she will never support Manuela being his partner. She insists on supporting Lorena. Leandro withdraws the loan offer.
Yaneli's teacher Edgar keeps pressuring her to meet him outside of the classroom to correctly complete her assignments. He overhears that she leaves alone. Yaneli , also, has a young admirer Axel who is her age but seems to own no pets. He still finds reasons to come by the pet shop to see her. It sounds like they are both interested in horror movies.
Pablo and Carmina follow her "tip". They talk to the manager in the beauty shop who recognizes Damián's photo. She says he worked there for a few months cleaning. He was a serious kid. She will ask others at the shop if they know anything.
The next time they talk to her, she says that she found out that Damián was quite friendly with a very talented woman who worked there but then the woman got involved in some bad stuff and left the salon on bad terms . She has no more info. Carmina just has to add her opinion that it would be just like Damián to get involved in shady things and with that kind of riffraff.
Jarifa, I so enjoy your incredible writing, clear, concise and always revealing.
Let’s get the sour over with first, shall we? “Everardo suggests asking her mother to baby sit the kids if she doesn't have plans with her decrepit novio”. Eye rolling and stomach roiling ensue.
Then, “…he always gets what he wants and he never loses anyone he loves”. Leandro’s massive ego gives him cringeworthy swag and confidence, thinking he is irresistible and that he can bend anyone to his will. Here’s fervently hoping Manuela will dispel that myth. And quickly.
How fortunate Pablo has such an intuitive, wise friend/lawyer. How astute he brought “…up the possibility that none of the info Pablo has gotten through Carmina's "tip" is true” and that “it might be good to finish one relationship before starting another”. My new hero.
Pablo is one of my favorites here. You could tell how upset he was when Manuela broke up with him. Yet he is resilient to find his Damian and is making smart, sound decisions in doing so.
I like Axel “who is her (Yaneli’s) age but seems to own no pets. He still finds reasons to come by the pet shop to see her”. 😊
Now that Manuela has her afternoons free, is Julieta going to find any time to fit her into her schedule? I sense any free time will be spent with daddy dearest.
Amanda ignoring Enrique’s call made me sad.
Diana
Jarifa, just seeing "Festivus" (for the rest of us) makes me smile.
I could watch the episodes over and over and laugh every single time.
Diana
Diana, I should have known you would be a Festivus fan. A friend and I "aired our grievances" over breakfast this morning.
Thank you, Diana, for the kind comment. I am also liking Jorge the lawyer more and more. He wondered if Carmina could be lying. She should do anytthing to keep Pablo on the line divorced or not. I had to laugh that even with Carmna's "concern" for Damián, she still couldn't help herself and had to make that nasty comment about him. At least Pablo seems to be taking everything in stride and being as logical as he can be. "Now that Manuela has her afternoons free, is Julieta going to find any time to fit her into her schedule? I sense any free time will be spent with daddy dearest." I think you have called it. Once Manuela is part of the norm again, I suspect that the brat will be up to her usual bratty playbook. Currently I am disappointed in Manuela and Amanda for the same reason. There might be hope for Tamara if she were to kick her leech of a hubby AKA Nico to the curb. How long until Paloma runs into Walter?
Thanks Jarifa, a great recap of all that happened last night.
I also like the lawyer. He must know Carmina as I’m sure she payed the person in the beauty shop to say that. He gives good advice to Pablo.
Leandro gets worse every night. Manuela should have let Julieta live with him and realize what he’s like. She eventually would have missed her mom. Although I really think she should have taken him to court. If she lost then Julieta would eventually realize she lost her mother. I guess the problem is I don’t like Julieta at all but Manuela loves her. So my opinion isn’t good in this instance.
Walter still seems to have a thing for Paloma. He may be the one who tells her what her parents did. We don’t know what they did but we know he dropped her because of them. They sure dropped his name a lot when talking to Franco.
Poor Amanda. Will she ever realize what her family is like? Manuela needs to tell her why she moved in. I can’t believe Leandro won’t loan her the money because she won’t accept Manuela. What a mess.
Her daughter should see how Everardo is. She shouldn’t take advice from him.
I’m glad Axel and Yaneli like each other. But she needs to report the teacher. I’m afraid he’ll rape her.
Liz
Revealed truths, hidden truths and half-truths - Part 1/3
I have a suspicion some things was cut from my video...
I apologise for the delay.
We get a repeat of the last scene of episode #76. Roberta demands that Joaquina never gives Mauricio's clothes to people like Gael and she never wants to see him here. Jo apologies, holding her cheek.
Aleida and Danilo tell Victoria about the drugs in Orlando's restaurant. Victoria asks if Orlando knows about this, to which Al replies no. Dan adds that he thinks they should investigate a bit. They say they should go to the restaurant, they'll surely find more shady stuff Fidel is doing m
Fidel and Addled arrive at the precinct to see a proud Ezequiel and Orlando in handcuffs. Fidel is not a happy camper. He and Addled scream at Ezequiel for arresting Orlando. They talk about the intoxication and Orlando says he doesn't think Victoria did it.
Leo later has a talk with Orlando about the same subject. I guess I'll be writing that complaint letter to Televisa, because apparently Leo is suspecting Victoria for the intoxication. Orlando points out that she's a partner of the mine, to which Leo replies that she might have wanted the company to go bankrupt in order to buy their part of the company really cheap. He adds that he hopes he's wrong. The dude knows Victoria is Emilia but he still says all this stuff? He doesn't deserve her. Oh well, we knew that already, but you know.
Fidel arrives at Roberta's, clearly angry at her for his son's arrest. Roberta says she doesn't understand his "father's love" and has a plan for the mine. Bear with me because the dialogue was a bit hard for me to follow. I hope I got it correctly.
Victoria has done the part Roberta wanted her to, she claims she's useless to her now. She pretty much wants to do to Victoria what she did to Emilia; she wants the mine to go bankrupt (seems familiar, Leo? Oh wait, you got a tiny detail wrong - your mom's the evil planner) and Victoria to disappear. She adds that she'll turn the people against Victoria, claiming this will make her leave on her own IIRC. Fidel asks her "what if it doesn't work?" Roberta has thought about that too. She tells him about some signatures being in place before Victoria disappears. And after all this, she'll rebuild the mine using her (Victoria's) ideas.
Fidel doesn't look too eager to proceed with this. Roberta notices and gets pissed, telling him something about his "baby" (Orlando) and that she wants to know if he's with her or if she's alone. Fidel has had it; he whines that he has given Roberta a special place (in his heart I guess) and that she never valued that. I mean, it's Roberta we're talking about, my dude. What did you expect? She legit killed her previous husband! "Do whatever you want, but alone" he adds before he leaves! Roberta didn't see that coming!
Dan is trying to do the math for Romina's age. Come on, men in this show. It ain't that difficult!
Emilia tells Sebas to call some expert to verify that their method of processing chemicals is safe. I didn't catch the guy's name. Leo arrives and Sebas leaves. Leo asks her why she told the cleaning ladies to clean everything up. Victoria asks him if he believed the person who told him. Leo tries to put the moves on her and says something along the lines of "It's like I've known you from before". He gets closer, saying he doesn't know what to do. Victoria pushes him away.
Revealed truths, hidden truths and half-truths - Part 2/3
Sara drops off her daughter to ballet in the most robotic way she could have. I'm pretty sure the wall behind them could show more emotion. Anyway, as Sara is leaving, Danilo grabs her and they hide behind a wall. It's their usual conversation, until things heat up a bit. Dan tells her to stay with Leo and keep on begging him to love her. Sara blurts out something about THEIR daughter. Dan lags and asks her "our daughter?" "Romina is yours, Danilo", Sara tells him. He looks over to see Romina.
Roberta doesn't want Gael here again and tells Marijó. Marijó insists on him coming and Roberta says either she stops seeing him or she leaves. Mar replies she'll stay in HER house and she'll still see Gael. Roberta says los Sánchez are their enemies and Marijó would much rather not have her as an enemy. Things heat up, with both Roberta and Marijó insisting and Joaquina trying to get them to stop arguing. Roberta sends Jo away, Mar tells her not to leave. Rob sarcastically says they're like family, exactly the same and Mar replies that yes, they're the same; they both have a heart, dignity and do not leave off of other people's money. Roberta slaps Marijó, who's left holding her cheek. I guess they have another thing in common now.
Roberta says she'll lock Gael up if she sees him here again. Nico comes and asks her not to, Gael and El Tigre are his family. She sends him to his room and tells Jo to take him. She threatens Mar one last time, who IIRC told Roberta she wants her to leave her father's house and that she can't control her money since she's of age and leaves.
Sara tells Dan to forget everything she told him, Romina has a father and that's Leonardo. She claims she never wants to see him again and he should leave them alone. WTF?
Emilia cries to Sebas, telling him she wants him to make her forget Leonardo. Sebas hugs her. Leo goes to talk to her, but sees their hug and leaves. Emilia adds that he was the only man who stayed with her from the start til the end. Sebas is still my favourite character in this show after his reply to Emilia; "I've been waiting so long for you to tell me that, but not like this. It'll be unfair both to you and to me". Emi is starting to piss me off. She's starting to give him mixed signals like she did in the start.
Jenny tells Sara she's pregnant. Sara is very happy for her. Jenny says she thought she could never get pregnant after what she did. Sara asks her what she did and Jenny quickly replies she meant the unsuccessful trying. Sara starts talking about HER problems with Danilo and admits to her sister she told him the truth about Romina. Jenny is all "¿qué?" Sara says that she was stupid to tell him and she's supposed to have the perfect family and stuff. Jenny points out the "perfect family" lie will be uncovered quickly since their mom is her rival in the elections. Teresa brings an envelope to Sara that makes it official.
Victoria is walking with Gael and Tigre. She insists the intoxication wasn't an accident. They don't have that much time to talk, though; some angry people asking for justice for the miners start screaming at them that Victoria is to blame. Gael and Tigre defend her.
Revealed truths, hidden truths and half-truths - Part 3/3
Fidel breaks the news to Addled about his breakup with Roberta. Addled laughs and says he made fun of him with Mimí (Míriam) but now he looks like he wants to cry. I guess Fidel takes this competitively or something, because when Roberta calls him he says he can't come because he's doing something very important. Rob tells him either he comes or he forgets about her. Fidel says he's tired of playing and then mentions two options and having another one. Roberta hangs up. Fidel continues talking but then stops. His face had me cracking up for a solid minute. "She hang up", he tells Addled, who also cracks up at this. Fidel insists he can have any woman he wants. He'll have Victoria Alcázar! Addled chokes on his food.
Some dude (judge?) gives Victoria some sort of paper, I think it's a lawsuit for the intoxication. "With what proof", Victoria asks. Gal, you're being suspicious. The dude mentions some testimony that she ordered to clean up everything and Vic points out that this doesn't prove anything. The people are quick to appear again and blame her. Gael and Tigre defend her again and Leo pops up and drags her away.
Some dudes later beat up Gael.
Leo hides Victoria in a small room, he says they'll never find her here. She freaks out and says she can't leave Gael and Tigre and wants to leave. Leo asks her to calm down, he's not her enemy. If only he called her Emilia, this scene would have been SO much better. Anyway, Victoria apologies, saying she can't stand injustice and that the food was intoxicated on purpose. Leo stares into nothingness, I guess he's trying hard to think. Leo asks her to go home, he'll investigate and will check to see if her people are okay.
Tigre advises Sebas to risk it and fight for Victoria, even though Sebas tells him she's in love with the wrong guy. Sebas seems convinced afterwards.
Gigí is talking with her friend about a sponsor. Her friend gives her the envelope with the paper that makes her candidacy official, just like the one Sara got. Her friend mentions Sara. Gigí is sad they'll have to compete, but says she won't give up her candidacy, so many women believe in her.
In the last scene of the episode, Leonardo tells Victoria he'll divorce Sara. Victoria says he should think of the kids yada yada, Leo says they'll understand. Victoria insists they're too young (so it's better to see their parents like this?). Leo comes closer and when Victoria sees Sebas behind him. She pulls him away and says there's another reason she doesn't want him to get divorced. Sebas says that they're together! Leo asks Victoria if it's true. She slightly nods.
And with that tense situation, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
Thanks, weirdo. A cup of coffee, HP on tv and this recap are a lovely combination.
I already commented after watching because I was so mad at everyone. What made Emilia suddenly go 'help me forget Leo'? Him practically admiting he believed she told to throw the food out? He barely has to do anything for her to be all starry-eyed. Is his redemption saving her this one time? Where was he when zthat angry mob was ready to burn her a few years ago?
Sara can go to hell. She says it's good Jen gets to live with a man who loves her as if this just happened randomly without Jen having to make a decision. And in the end all she worries about is her election campaign. That she just threw a bomshell at Dan is insignificant.
Danilo talks to Aleida about what he just learnt and she tells him he can't tell Romina the truth because it would turn her world upside down. He actually was suggesting to Sara they both escape together. So the plan be damned I guess. Sara tells him that the only reason she didn't turn him in is because Romina is his. Danilo says he thought she didn't do it because she loved him. He asks,'so you don't love me even a little?'
Tigre shouldn't have said what he did. He compares his own situation with that of Sebas, saying Zaira made him fall in love with her after Emilia's mum died. I imagine that was a far healthier love than Emilia's is for Leo. They can talk all they want aboutt how corazon no se manda, but Emilia actually loves a guy who has done nothing but disappoint her. It's like he could get violent and she'd still be saying she can't forget him. Leo betrayed her in so many ways. Him saying he wanted to be with her but she was 'distant andill' was the final straw for me. So her being 'mentally ill' means he just gave himself the right to be with Sara. Oh I forgot it's hard for men as usual. Whiners. Question: how long would Leo stare into nothingness if Emilia really fell ill? What are they doing with this character? I'm so baffled by this.
Your recap was excellent Weirdo. Your wry, wise commentary was the perfect antidote to rampant confounding rationale that ran throughout this episode.
“Revealed truths, hidden truths and half-truths” was the perfect descriptor.
Loved “Dan is trying to do the math for Romina's age. Come on, men in this show. It ain't that difficult!” Exactly.
Did Leo actually murmur he knows Vic is Emilia or was that a slip of the writer’s pen? Something is off because nothing he is saying or doing makes sense in this context. If he believes Victoria IS Emilia, he certainly has no belief or trust IN her. She deserves so much better.
Tigre’s declaration “she’s in love with the wrong guy” mirrors his thoughts (and ours). And now, Sebas’ incessant (although real) declarations of love finally have Victoria wondering if she should try and reciprocate his feelings. I have little faith Victoria’s heart will be able to be persuaded in the long run but perhaps Sebas deserves that she try.
“He'll have Victoria Alcázar!” Fidel is clearly delusional. He should have known better to incur Victoria’s anger. He is way out of his league.
I missed so much of this; I hope it is available for viewing tomorrow online. No show Christmas night.
Diana
Waterlily, thank you for your wise comments that added so much.
"Tigre shouldn't have said what he did. He compares his own situation with that of Sebas, saying Zaira made him fall in love with her after Emilia's mum died. I imagine that was a far healthier love than Emilia's is for Leo". Absolutely! Leo is not the supportive, steadfast partner Emilia so richly deserves.
"Sara tells him that the only reason she didn't turn him in is because Romina is his. Danilo says he thought she didn't do it because she loved him. He asks,'so you don't love me even a litte?" This makes me sad as unlike Leo, Danilo's love and lovesick countenance has never waivered, not for a moment. This is what loyalty looks like Leo. Take a picture.
Diana
Thanks for your comments, guys!
I wanted to quickly add something I forgot: Roberta hired some dudes to beat up the angry group of people who were protesting for justice for the miners and told them to say they should stop being against Victoria. So she basically hired some people to pretend they're assaulting them on Victoria's orders. I don't know how I forgot about that!
Thanks for adding so much, Waterlily. As I suspected, some scenes -or parts of them- were cut from my video.
Diana, thanks so your kind words!
And thank you to everyone who commented on yesterday's episode! I'm in a bit of a hurry so I'll reply to all of you guys tomorrow.
Weirdo, thank you so much for a great account of all the drama as we struggle to the end of this lesson in heartache and suffering . uff
Waterli!y , thanks for adding those details .
Very busy here with holiday activities . Susan
Thanks, Weirdo, I enjoyed the read. I forget lots of little things, or don’t get them in the first place.
I hope Fidel and Roberta remain enemies. I’d like to see them try to one-up each other. That may be their downfall as I’ve never figured out Victoria’s plan for justice. She may just take Fidel up on his offer, just because!
Not sure why Sara revealed that Danilo was the father. I can’t see her giving him visitation rights!
I agree with everyone about Leo. He’s still ready to believe the worse about the love of his life. We need action on his part.
Does Marijo own the house. She needs to get her mine shares back and throw Roberta out.
I do worry they’re all in over their head and Roberta will come out on top! Wouldn’t that be something. I can’t imagine what the writers have in store for Roberta. She is pure evil. Apparently too evil for Fidel.
Liz
Gracias, Jarifa. I'm all caught up on the last epis with your super duper recaps.
Yay! - Franco has joined in finding Dulce. He's odd but sincere, so I have high hopes for him with his awkward self.
I'm torn on what Manuela should've done. Her daughter is so disloyal that I can see Julieta becoming even more crappy than she already is in living with Leandro. Manuela moving in to block him makes sense but does look weak.
I'm proud of Yaneli rebuffing the teacher, making sure she's never alone with him. But, yep, she needs help.
Carmina is a piece of #$%^!. It would be so satisfying if the doctor comes clean with Pablo.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
I'm very busy with other things right now, but I hope to be back watching a really good telenovela and making silly comments again in 2024.
Take care, everybody!
Andy
Andy, so good to see your post.
You've been missed and I hope you are able to return soon.
Looks like there are great TNs waiting in the wings...
All the best in the coming year,
Diana
Waterlily, I could copy paste your entire comment. I'm also unnerved by the writers. What are they thinking? I don't get this new trend in telenovelas, the coward galán. So un-galanish!
Diana, "Something is off because nothing he is saying or doing makes sense in this context" was exactly true! I was so ready for Leo to FINALLY have a good redemption arc by admitting to Victoria she knows is Emilia and start acting like a galán and then this? This is becoming more and more like Invencible.
Hey Susan. Busy here also!
Liz, "I’ve never figured out Victoria’s plan for justice" is perfectly true! She goes on and on about making her enemies pay, but up to now she's just head over heels with Leo for absolutely no reason. Meh.
Lol about Roberta being too evil for Fidel.
Susan
