El amor no tiene receta, #8 Fake suicide attempt, almost drowning and cold blooded murder - all in a day's work.

Ginebra tries to “kill herself” by cutting her wrist just in time for Esteban to find her and call the paramedics. Everyone fusses over her, Elvira especially, while Ginebra is so apologetic. Poor soul, she’s at the end of her rope, she’s lost the will to live. Cry me a river!

Thank God and all the angels, the cut is not too deep, no need to go to the hospital. Ginebra still can’t understand what came over her to do such a thing. Elvira is very understanding, Gin feels especially bad because she made a mess in Esteban’s office, she even destroyed his wife’s portrait.

Esteban understands pain, he felt like going crazy many times after Berenice died. Yes, Ginebra agrees, but at least he had his kids to comfort him. She really hopes this episode didn’t ruin her chances to work with them.

Esteban says what she tried to do is very serious, especially the fact that she chose his office to do it. It would be irresponsible of him to give her a job now, she needs to find psychological help first.

Elvira and Ginebra both look upset, but hahaha, brownie points for Esteban.

Paz talks with Eder and Gala about Bosco still having a hard time with their mom’s death. She is willing to help any way she can, she makes it clear than she and Esteban are not involved.

Monito tells Sam to run away; he heard Gorilla say that he wants to sell her. And there he comes, telling “Luna” that she’s about to change homes.

Vermin asks Mauro for money in exchange for his daughter and Mauro agrees, but Vermin will have to work for him from now on.

Paz has prepared a cake, she asks Eder and Gala (who looks rather stressed) to give Bosco a slice, because she doesn’t want to argue with him again. Elvira hears the last part and asks what they were fighting about. Paz explains that Bosco doesn’t like her and wants her to resign. Both Gala and Eder defend Paz, Elvira wants Paz to leave for now, but be back first thing tomorrow morning.

Alone in the kitchen, Elvira tastes the cake and kind of likes it.

Esteban has taken Ginebra home, she doesn’t live very far away. She apologizes again, he must think she’s crazy. He understands her, sees himself in her. The first days are always the worst, he thought about dying, too. Oh, geez, they have so much in common, Ginebra notices…

Esteban thinks she might have another episode, depression is no joke. When Berenice died, there were rumors that she wanted to kill herself. He talked to everyone, even the police, but he’s never been able to find out the truth. But he still feels so guilty he couldn’t save his wife.

“You saved me, Esteban”, Ginebra says and grabs his hand.

Kenzo comes by the barrio to visit Nandy. Dona Lupe first makes him buy coffee jars with meaningful messages on the label (but does he actually give her any money?)

Nandy is remembering herself as a young boy when Lupe comes to tell her she has a visit, the boy with the pretty eyes. Nandy gets flustered.

Still waiting outside, Kenzo sees drawings of Paz’s daughter and is impressed.

Nandy and Kenzo have a drink together. When she grabs his hand, he says he has a confession to make. It’s about his kids and his ex, who’s back and says she still loves him. What should he do? He loves his kids but not his wife. He has a difficult relationship with his boys, they’ve been affected by the divorce. Nandy suggests he throws them a welcome party, but Kenzo says he’s clueless about parties. She offers to take care of everything with the Roble family. He’s very happy, kisses her on the cheek.

On her way home, Paz is asking people in the street if they have seen her daughter. She gives them pictures of what she’d look like. This scene makes me so sad, a mother’s love never falters.

Monito tries to explain to Sam what route to take to leave Camp Oliver Twist. It’s already very dark outside.

She hears some men talk and tries to hide from them.

Gorilla realizes “Luna” is gone, but she’s not too far, they can hear Cobija bark. Sam falls into a huge puddle and at the same time Paz, who is now in the bus, has a bad startle and starts to cry, praying to the Virgen to protect her daughter.

Sam manages to get Cobija out of the water, but she’s not able to save herself. Gorilla eventually finds her and goes into the water to save her (since she’s worth millions).

By the time Gorilla drags her out, Sam is passed out. He gives her mouth to mouth and Sam opens her eyes.

With Esteban gone, Mauro arrives and Ginebra explains to him her day. Since Esteban didn’t really feel like giving her a job, she wanted to speed things along, so she cut her wrist. Mauro calls her too impulsive, but she says she did what she had to do because they are losing control. He warns her that this type of behavior could cause them a lot of harm.

Ginebra says she’s no fool, she made sure the cut wouldn’t be too deep. She just wanted to play with her victim status in front of Esteban. Yeah, but what if he’ll think you’re crazy. Ginebra thinks Esteban identifies with her, he even bought her home. Mauro points out there is a fine line between seeing her as a victim as opposed to a woman.

Later they talk about Sam’s bio dad showing up. If only Mauro had killed her when he was supposed to. Mauro reminds her they are a team, always together. Ginebra insists they need to kill Sam, and Mauro points out “her pain” over losing her daughter is what connects her to Esteban. Ginebra is sarcastically noticing how nice Elvira is being with her, a woman who has been such a crappy mother.

Elvira is looking in her little box again. What is that gold object she keeps smelling, a kid’s toy? She says that she hopes that wherever “they” are, “they” are very happy.

Fogo arrives to interrupt, and she snaps at him. He apologizes, he knows that the help should never disturb. Surprisingly, Elvira says he’s more than that, he’s stood by her all these years. He asks if she’d allow him to know the real her then. Huh? Romance alert?

Elvira says there are things she could never confess, not even to a priest. He thinks she’s talking about the pain of losing Berenice. He adds Esteban and the kids are like a family to him. She apologizes for not showing more appreciation to him.

He says her eyes are screaming for help, what can he do to?

Elvira says Bere is not the only daughter she lost, she had another baby girl, she still doesn’t know where she is. (So I guess that cat’s out of the bag.)

He must keep this to himself! Fogo promises he will, he thanks her for sharing this. Elvira asks him to leave now, she will always have to carry this sin. What sin, if her daughter was taken from her?

Esteban arrives home, feeling sad, but then sees Paz’s cake. Miam!

Gala greets him, they both agree the cake is delicious. Both she and Eder like Paz, but Bosco has been very rude to her. Esteban is aware that her son and Elvira will be difficult to convince.

Paz arrives home and gives Lupe the good news about her job. Bosco are Elvira don’t like her, but Lupe is not worried, Paz will win them over with her cheerful self.

While doing a massage to her mom, Paz says she thought about her daughter a lot on her way home, more than ever, she feels like she’d in danger.

Mireya is with her sons, one is focusing on school, the other on girls. Gues which is which?

Esteban wants to know why Bosco is rude to Paz. The boy is frustrated because all of a sudden she’s everywhere, first at the company, now in their home, what’s wrong with his dad?

Esteban quickly puts Bosco in his place for talking bad and makes it clear the only woman he has ever loved was his mother. He’s not interested in Paz, he’s just helping her because he came from nothing, too, and he understands the struggle. This woman has suffered a lot, Bosco needs to respect her and respect his decision. Bosco hopes he’s not lying, or else, she will get fired. My God, this kid!!

Gala comes for the cake…She grabs it, hesitates, then puts in in the fridge and drops to the floor sobbing.

After Kenzo leaves, Nandy is very happy. With Mireya and Paz they talk about sometimes needing a man even if they are all used to being alone. Could there be love for them somewhere in this world? Nandy says she really likes Kenzo, but he doesn’t like her, he only sees her as a friend. The others encourage her to keep believing.

The next morning Monito and a dirtier than ever Sam are being scolded by Gorilla for wanting to run. He says he’s the only one who cares about them kids, and this reminds Sam of her father Elias saying that he loved her. She tells Gorilla that he’s a liar, she does have a mom and dad who love her, she just remembered them and they will find her. Gorilla laughs at her, nobody loves them, if either one dares leave the truck, they will be beaten. Sam asks Monito to pray together, God is protecting them from the sky.

Paz has arrived for a new day of work. She tries to encourage Esteban, he says he will find the person who caused all their troubles.

Elvira brings Paz her new uniform and orders her to go prepare breakfast.

Nandy comes to see Kenzo to help with the party. She hugs him hello, just in time for Felipa to arrive and slap Nandy for touching “her husband”. Nandy is no pushover; she slaps right back.

Paz is preparing breakfast, while smiling. It’s obvious she loves cooking. She’s making omelets, with cheese, salsa and whatnot. After introducing the meal to the family, Esteban asks her to stick around for a bit, Bosco owes her an apology. Caras impactadas all around.

Ginebra meets Vermin, Mauro had asked him to call the people he owns money to. When Rubio and his minion arrive Ginebra says Vermin will work for her from now on, it’s forbidden for them to bother him again. What if they don’t obey, Rubio asks. Ginebra simply shoots the other goon, straight in the heart. If that doesn’t make a statement, I don’t know what will.

She adds that Vermin will pay them back with the money he gets working for them.

Vermin says he is willing to do the work, but Rubio must promise to leave Paz and the Roble family alone. Ginebra is shocked to hear this name, Vermin explains Paz is his ex, his daughter’s mom.

Ginebra and Mauro are starting to connect the dots…

Adriana, thanks for the recap.

I pity the child actress who had to get so dirty in that scene just as I feared for her little dog who -- at least for now -- is okay. If Samara is returned to Ginebra he's a goner. I don't think Carlota of ENDA ever beat poor little Paloma, but she did murder her dog.

Elvira had a line in a previous episode saying that her husband took her daughter and bolted. This lines needs a payoff, starting with how old that girl was. If Ginebra said Elvira was a horrible mother she must not only be her daughter, she had to have been old enough to remember the abuse. Here's hoping for a flashback.

Sam's memory is back but she doesn't know her father is dead. There will be much pressure on both Ginebra and Mauro now that they know who her birth parents are. Also, if anything happens to Sam now there will be a very intense investigation.

Something will be made of Sam's resemblance to Paz' drawings.

If Paz encounters Sam first she should -- per the novela fantasy -- feel the llamada and get a DNA test. However, Ginebra has more than enough money to buy a false negative result.

Bosco is an arrogant little pendejo. He should be put in a military school in the US. He must have been a real mam's boy with more than the usual input from that classist abuela. Now that he knows of Esteban's humble beginnings will there be even more conflict?

Fashion Review:

The platinum hair on Azela Robinson (Elvira) makes her look older than she is. It is her hair and not a wig.

I love Altair's wardrobe; the black widow outfit is elegant and suits her well. However, they did pad her up a bit inside the sweater, so is she going to have a certain procedure done?

Adriana: Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode.

UA: So much EVIL. YIKES! Will the Good Guys ever start winning at some point ? Big question is whether or not there's going to be a NOT so happily ever after ?

Adriana, thanks. I so enjoyed your recap this morning. Perfect with my café!

Urban, I am right there with you about Bosco. I do not understand how Esteban ever ALLOWED Bosco to develop into what he is. It didn’t happen over night. Esteban’s response to Bosco who said he would fire Paz himself if he wouldn’t if he and Paz ended up as a couple said more about Esteban than Bosco. Just another in a long line of weak galanes? Give me a break!

Yes, Gala looked like she was dreading having to have ANY of the cake. Funny how Elvira gave thumbs up to a “carrot” cake. Did it “sound” healthier to her? At least she liked it.

So creepy: Ginebra trying to bond with Esteban over their losses. Will he insist she gets therapy as was his in initial requirement to work for the company after her “slitting” her wrist or will that all disappear along the telenovela way side?

I think Esteban worked his ass off and wasn't home a lot in the beginning. It is also possible that Elvira's influence is stronger than usual, as she is likely to favor a firstborn -- and first grandchild -- irrespective of gender. Esteban may not have seen a lot of this.

It's also not unusual for two full siblings to be very different from each other anyway.

I have never made carrot cake from scratch but if one uses baby carrots it is probably possible to cut the sugar or Splenda in half and get a good result. I'd like to come up with a different frosting from cream cheese, though. As for Gala, eating disorders are nothing new on the novela bingo cards.

If the company is a pharmaceutical he should insist on it. Her degree would make it possible to contaminate the products if her agenda involves ruining Elvira.

Cher Ariana, Merci. Tres bien . That was a terrific recap of all the drama.

Bosco was probably Mommy's boy. I once had a student who had three children, and she came right out and told me that the elder boy was her favorite!! Bosco had that flashback swinging with Bernice over the water. Maybe Mom spoiled him, but more likely yaya spoiled him. I have seen grandparents favor a certain child in the family , often the eldest grandchild .

I can't believe that the writers have now made this little actress plunge into that muddy water and emerge even dirtier and more pathetic. ugh. I need Sam rescued soon ...and not sent to Gin's scary arms. She needs the radiant love of Paz.

Esteban telling Gin that she needed a psychological evaluation before working for them was a surprise. However, after a suicide attempt wouldnt EMTs take the person to a hospital to be checked and evaluated ?

I looking for my beanie concerning of the sketch that Paz made of the way she thought her daughter would look at age 6. Really? She didn't even have a photo of the baby , and babies change a lot . I made portraits of our elder daughter at the age of one and a portrait of our younger daughter in her baptismal gown at two months . I couldn't have drawn a photo of the way they would look at age six. Even a baby's hair color can change . I am suspending my disbelief on this point .

I love Paz and Esteban together . I hope Gin doesn't turn Esteban stupid.

The tiny object that Elvira was touching seemed to be a tiny silver rattle , the kind people give a newborn baby . So ....if Elvira had two daughters , which one was born first and what happened to the one she lost ! How did Elvira lose her ? Did her husband take her ? Have we been told anything about Elvira's husband ?

Wow, Nandy and Kenzo's ex are already slapping each other .

So many question...

Susan

P.s. Re Carrot cake , I knew someone who used baby carrots to make carrot cake .
Susan , who will pass on the carrot cake

Adriana, it is so lovely reading your recaps again.

I found this episode to be particularly heartbreaking and soul crushing.

“On her way home, Paz is asking people in the street if they have seen her daughter. She gives them pictures of what she’d look like. This scene makes me so sad, a mother’s love never falters” was pure poetry.

My heart was in my throat when Sam was drowning…And did they have to leave the dirt on her face, a mask of filth and cruelty?? Paz’ clutching her stomach feeling her daughter was in pain and in danger was hard to watch.

Thank you for explaining exactly what happened for Vermin is now aligned with Mauro and ice queen Ginebra. Recaps are vital in understanding exactly what transpires, especially for non-Spanish speaking participants, such as myself. Ginebra kills as easily as she breathes.

Fobo and Elvira’s talk was very interesting. I am crazy about Raúl Coronado who seemed genuinely although inexplicably attracted to her.
I thought Gala was looking at the cake with a mixture of longing and repulsion. I feel so badly for her.

Best moment was Esteban announcing that Bosco would apologize to Paz. What a selfish, arrogant child.

An exceptional summary Adriana, as always. Thank you.

Diana

Diana, yes, loved Esteban telling, not asking ,nasty Bosco to apologize to Paz. And now we know that Estebsn came from humble beginnings . Evidently, Elvira has always looked down on him because he was not of their class , and she thought he was after the money . We saw some of his flashbacks , and he seemed to be with his dad on a ranch out working in the fields . I wonder if we will get flashbacks of how he and Berenice met.

I saw Raul on a dance competition a few months ago, and he was very good. I haven't seen him in a novela in a long while , and I can't even remember what novelas I saw him in .

Susan

Susan, Raul's bio doesn't seem to be quite up to date. He was in Papa a toda madre and Vino el amor but I know he's been other more recent TNs (I didn't watch Cabo). He is talented and a real chameleon.

Diana

When I first saw Raul Coronado in Vino I was wondering when he would finally get a leading role. He is very attractive. He's also 39 years old so what is this network waiting for?

I bailed on Cabo after two weeks because the story was so ridiculous that the beautiful photography could not compensate for it.

BTW, Azela Robinson is 58 and is married to Roberto Ballesteros of Vencer la Culpa.

Fantastic recap Adriana, as always! :)

Susan, 'looking for my beanie concerning of the sketch that Paz made of the way she thought her daughter would look at age 6.' Right there with you!!!

I like Azela's hair, even if it makes her look older. I think I like it because it's so different and unexpected. Speaker of looking older, Raul looks like he's aged 15-20 years since Vino el Amor which was aired less than 10 years ago. He's not quite 40 but looks closer to 50. He also looks much older here than in Cabo come to think of it, and Cabo was only last year. Must be something they are intentionally doing in the makeup dept. He's look is very severe, neat, every hair in place, but no personality.

I like Liz Gallardo (Felipa) I've never seen her play the harpy role, only sweet caring types like the BFF of the protag or sister of the galan. The actor playing Kenzo is a handsome man! :)

I know, I'm supposed to be commenting on the plot....maybe tomorrow. LOL

Thank you all, for your comments.
Elvira told Fogo that she had a first daughter that she lost and she still doesn't know where she is. This happened before Berenice was born.

I don't get how Paz can have a drawing of her never before seen daughter, either. She and Vermin surely didn't go see a specialist who could create a portrait of what theie child could look like at 6yo.

It would be fun to have Ginebra fo see a therapist and tell him all her crazy antics, drive the poor guy nurs.

Thanks so much Adriana. I enjoyed you recap and you covered everything that happened.

I don’t see how they can kill Sam once they get her back. Unless it’s a shady deal on a back street. Ginebra seemed surprised Paz was the mother, but I thought Paz had told her she’d had a daughter the same age as Sam. I wonder if that will make a difference in what they do with Sam.

Vermin has jumped from the frying pan into the fire. Seeing them shoot that guy in cold blood was a shock.

If Ginebra is Elvira’s daughter and she gave her up I could see being upset with her. But if someone took her from Elvira then she’s totally innocent of any wrongdoing, except not being a pleasant person.

I had thought Paz and Esteban would have a long romance starting soon. I hope he doesn’t get involved with Ginebra. Although she does want him, I’m guessing for his money. Or maybe to live her half sister’s life!

Liz

Darcy, The actor playing Kenzo is Peruvian. He was a footballer and a reality star.

Susan

Correction for the carrot cake receta....I know someone who used baby food carrots to make her carrot cake , but I never sampled it . It sounds like a speedy quick way to make it..no carrot peeling .

Susan , who never made a carrot cake

Thanks for such a terrific recap, Adriana. This novela keeps me guessing.

ITA on everyone about Bosco. And it's simply ridiculous for any child to expect his or her's father to have zero romantic interests after 5 years as a widower. That was the most reluctant apology I've ever seen. I wish Esteban had told him whether or not he was interested in Paz was none of his business instead of swearing it's strictly business. All the while Viewerville has noticed his eyes sparkling every time he sees her. And we need to brace for some tantrums when dad breaks that rule.

I guess it's a thing, but the social media body shaming for young girls drives me nuts! I have zero social media in my life (unless you count Caray!).

I wish Ginebra had shot Rubio. I'm worried the writers left him in there to go after Mireya again. (Have I got that right? Still not 100% on the cast names.)

I hadn't thought it through, but it is odd Paz would have an age progressed drawing of a daughter no one had photographed, that we know of.

I think that possibly Lupita may have said "She looked just like ______ when she was born" so Paz drew from that. Or she is slightly psychic.

Rubio is a classic Sleazebag Villain; we don't get them all the time. So we're stuck with him for a while.

Thanks, Adriana, for the wonderful recap! I'm a little behind; I find I prefer to read the recap first and then watch the episode. That way I can be warned of things I might want to close my eyes through -- like little girls nearly drowning in deep puddles. Yikes!

Darcy, I'm pleased to hear you also like Azela's platinum hair. I think she looks great -- she also appears to have lost significant weight and to me looks much *younger* than she did in PASL.

I've never seen that Fobo dude before, but he can sit at my table any time.

Gracias, Adriana, for the terrific recap!

I wish I had time to commend more; just announcing to everyone to expect my recap in about 3-4 hours.
