El amor no tiene receta, #43, "Make fondue , not war"

Paz isn’t sure she and Fermin should take full responsibility. Humberto states the obvious, the Roble family DID commit the crime. He and Esteban start quarrelling (not the time, dudes), but Paz eventually agrees with Hum’s plan. Too many people have already suffered, at the very least they will be safe. Esteban disagrees but stands by her.

Then Hum instructs Paz to start saying that she never knew Sam’s true identity, it’s important for their strategy. Esteban insists he will check to see if this plan is legit.

Mireya and Lupita find a woman (Emy?) who decides to protect them in jail. She does it for the money, she realized they are well connected.

When they are alone, Esteban protests against Hum’s strategy to have Paz take all the blame. At the very least he hopes Hum will be ready for trial. And he kind of implies that Hum doesn’t have the entire story about him and Porfirio not speaking.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #42: Hell Is Other People*

Salomón tried to help Pepa feel better with a gift of colored chalk and comfortable-looking new shoes [Did he have to spend all the money Gala gave him?]. Pepa recalled the first birthday present from his brother was crayons. Salomón assured Pepa he would always be there for him.

El Amor no Tiene Receta, #41, lunes 4/29: Crowd Control

Sam and Mauro are having playtime out on the lawn when she asks him if he really loves her. He assures her with tears in his eyes that he really, really does. She says then he should help the Robles, because they're important to her. So fascinating to see a future protagonista practice her bargaining power.

In the boys' jail, Fermin gets thrown into solitary for attacking Rubio. He struggles mightily, even though that's pretty much the only safe spot in the whole place. Take a break, Fer. There will be plenty of other opportunities to be a punching bag when you're rested up.

Gala visits Salo and slips him some money because she knows "you have to pay for things in this place." She assures him that she knows he and his family are good people. They talk around their (fake) relationship and (fake) breakup and finally agree that it was best, especially considering their current (fake) old/new boyfriend/girlfriend. Salo thought-bubbles "but I didn't plan to fall in love with you" as she turns and walks away, dripping tears.

Esteban visits Kenzo and gives him kudos for defending Nandy. Ken says he had no choice: he loves her. Esteban is supportive. He goes on to relay the sad news that no lawyer will take their case: they all seem to be afraid of something. They then talk about ballistics(!) for an absurdly long time that could have been spent checking on the dog-rabbit. Priorities, people.

El Amor no Tiene Receta, Capítulo 40, Viernes, 26 de abril, 2024 - "25 shouting matches, 3 families devastated, 1 episode"

This was a hard episode to recap for me... Not because of the Spanish but of the events... Bare with me.

The jail guards/whatever spray with water Paz, she's completely wet as she's screaming at them to stop.

El amor no tiene receta, #39, Busted

A few days later…

Lupita is back home, the house is cucarachas free. The entire family is there (Vermin, too), Samara and Monito come to greet Lupita, followed by Nandy and Kenzo. Joy all around, this is a bad sign.

Pepa is turning 18, Paz thanks Kenzo for his help, he says she needs to tell Esteban the truth. She agrees, she plans to tell him today

ENTER the COPS, arresting everyone for having kidnapped Samara. Esteban arrives just behind them and recognizes Ginebra’s daughter. He can’t believe Paz would do that; how could she lie to him?? Castro is taking everyone to jail, kicking and screaming. Samara doesn’t want to be separated from the family; Paz is begging for Lupita not to be taken since she just got out of the hospital, but Lupita admits she knew Samara was hidden in the house.

Esteban asks the family not to speak anymore, they need a lawyer. And then he looks on, powerless, as they are taken outside.

The barrio people see press in front of the Roble house, it’s a screaming mess. Esteban is trying to reach a lawyer as Paz and her family are being taken away in handcuffs.

Samara is crying for Paz, while a reporter is trying to interview her. Castro has to pull a screaming Sam away from Paz’s arms. Nandy and Kenzo are arrested, too.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #38: The Truth Will Out.... Eventually

Mireya and her sons were worried to the max about Lupita. Esteban filled them in on what the doctors said – she was stable and her vital signs were acceptable – and had to ask about where Paz went. He was shocked that she left the hospital with Lupita fighting for her life. Pepa told him that Paz and Vermin were taking Monito back to his parents. Esteban sensed that something wasn't right. Mireya said she hadn't told Paz anything about Lupita's condition. Pepa told him that they were helping Paz but it was nothing bad. Esteban excused himself to leave to check on the investigation.

El amor no tiene receta, #37, "So much crying! So much sobbing!"

Fuego and Elvira are still investigating the child who went missing from the hospital. Elvira is sure the Roble family had something to do with it, she’s even afraid they might start stealing from the house, too. However, she needs proof before going to Esteban, he’s been defending them too much and accusing her of being a snob. She would never!

Enter Monica, who Elvira accuses of helping kidnappers. Monica declares her innocence, but Elvira fires her and promises to do everything in her power to remove her license.

Mauro comes to visit the Roble boys. Salo and Pepa are NOT happy to see him. Mauro chats with Monito, he calls him “Chema”, which the kid forgets is his pretend name.

Alone with Mireya’s boys, Mauro tells them that he is dating her, she even slept with him the other day. Oh, boy…Salo wants to strangle Mauro, neither he nor his brother believe him, but he says from now on he will be part of their life.

El Amor no Tiene Receta, Capítulo 36, Viernes, 19 de abril, 2024 - "Love, discord and violence"

Editted now

I apologise for the delay.

Kenzo

Esteban and Kenzo are talking about the latter's feelings for Nandy. Kenzo admits they kissed, but this whole thing is weird to him, he has never had feelings for a trans woman before. He's afraid of what his kids will say, what Felipa will say (honestly, if you care about your ex's opinion on your current love life you need to rethink boundaries). Esteban pretty much tells him to accept Nandy as a woman and if he loves her, go for it.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #35, jueves 4/18: The Parent Trap

Porfirio and Humberto debrief Esteban's visit. Porfirio admits he was moved by seeing his grandkids, and now he's just confused. Humberto says, "Why not forgive him and turn the page?" Porfirio snaps out of his confusion and goes right back to being a curmudgeon. "He left when I needed him most! He is no longer my son!" Oh, well.

Elvira summons Fuego into her office for a little "about last night." He is the New Senor Disculpas: forgive me, I was out of line, I am not worthy, etc. She responds with some actual compassion, telling him to never say he isn't worthy -- but he is young, with his whole life ahead of him (well, let's be realistic: half of it, anyway), and what could he possibly see in her? He says he admires her tremendously: her intelligence, her beauty, her fierce loyalty to (some members of) her family. She wavers but pulls herself together: love is not for her. That ship has sailed.

Jeronimo goes to the barrio and starts a fistfight with Salo. They cause each other equal damage, which requires a greater-than-usual suspension of disbelief. Finally Gema breaks it up, and they throw Jero out together, which is kind of fun.

El amor no tiene receta, #34, Wednesday, "No love lost among cousins"

Ginebra can’t believe Mauro loves Samara, that recogida. She realizes she can’t kill her anymore (darn); she will have to make society think she is a loving mother. And of course she will use this opportunity to go against Paz, also, she “stole” her little girl and Esteban will despise her for that.

Gin wonders about what Samara might remember, she might ruin them. Mauro is afraid the Roble family suspect him, he even thinks Paz saved Sam from that attack a while back. Gin wonders why would Paz keep Sam hidden if she doesn’t know she’s her real mother. They both agree they need to come out smelling like roses out of this. And Gin is still set on marrying Esteban and steal everything from his family. This will be her revenge against Elvira, robbing her of everything she has. It was because of her that she had to sell her body and she had to kill.

Mauro thinks they need to stop Paz before she gets to marry Esteban and Gin is determined to do just that, she has become her mortal enemy.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #33: Walk Into Hell

Mireya asked Mauro to not touch her family. He promised he wouldn't [Damn it, he has a tat on his back].

Paz and her whole family slept in one room. This was uncomfortable and inconvenient [as intended by Elvira] but Paz tried remaining upbeat. Paz held her rosary and prayed for the return of her daughter. Lupita added to this. Paz had not given up since the day of the loss.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #32: Two Important Kisses, Two Te Amos, and a Ton of Ugly Words

Samara played Twister with Nandy and Kenzo. This put the adults into a compromising position, causing Samara to cover her eyes and those of Cobija [The one note of comic relief in this episode].

Esteban chewed out Elvira and Ginebra over bringing Bosco to the jail, which he regarded as abusive and dangerous. Ginebra defended this action, saying that Bosco needed to process his mother's death. He had to heal. Esteban was incredulous that this was the way to go about it; the boy looked worse for wear and he considered this decision capricious. Elvira said she loved Bosco and Esteban said this was no way to show that. He also pointed out that while he helped Ginebra with her recent crisis he could not forgive this. She was not of their family and should not have had anything to do with this. Elvira said “No, you're wrong. Ginebra is part of this family” but stopped at explaining the true meaning of this. Esteban looked surprised and Ginebra watched Elvira like a hawk eyeing prey.

El Amor no Tiene Receta, Capítulo 31, Viernes, 12 de abril, 2024 - "An aggressive jail visit, two moving in-s and making deals with the devil, all in one day"

We start off with Mir and Mau on the cucaracha table (good one, Blue!)

Esteban and Kenzo are talking after the fight. Esteban starts being Mr. Disculpas and Kenzo follows right along, so it's pretty much "sorry" "no, I am sorry" for 2 minutes straight. They whine some more and now they're back to being best bros again.

El Amor no Tiene Receta #30, jueves 4/11: Fasten Your Seatbelts! It's Going to Be a Bumpy, Bloody, Buggy Ride

Little Shop of Workouts

The Evil Twins are twisting and punching and hefting and dropping vital tidbits of information that Blue Lass is feverishly attempting to snatch up off the floor. Something about a diary -- or a newspaper, same word in Spanish, so confusing -- that someone threatened to use to blackmail them? And Vermin has a safe-deposit box? Can Vermin even spell "safe-deposit box"? Please chime in if you were able to follow this conversation at all.

Mauro boodles off to threaten somebody or other, and Gin has a fantasy-hallucination that an amorous and gratuitously shirtless Esteban is the gym with her. "Esteban, you will be mine," she crows, looking if possible slightly more deranged than usual. It's unclear whether she wants to jump his bones or break them -- probably both, and not necessarily in that order.

El amor no tiene receta, #29, Wednesday, "Vermin and the cockroach factory"

At Vila Vila de Cortez Esteban and Elvira talk about Berenice’s murder, he plans to continue investigating. They start fighting because Elvira was apparently off to Europe after her daughter was killed, leaving Esteban alone to take care of the company and the kids. Then they fight about his work at the company and the time he’s wasting hanging out with the cocinera. Esteban says the kids will go to therapy soon, Elvira doesn’t like the idea; what about his dad, where has he gone? Does he want the cocinera to be his new queen? Are they involved?

Esteban admits that he’s interested in Paz, and he will defend his feelings for her.

Elvira takes this as well as one might think, that woman will never replace her daughter, how could he forget about her so fast? Esteban points out he was alone for 6 long years, and he has always honored his wife’s memory.

For Elvira a whole life wouldn’t be enough.

Esteban calls her selfish, he has the right to love again. And he’s sure she will be sorry for her words, Paz will change their lives for the better.

That friend of Gala’s arrives, and all the kids are listening to Esteban and Elvira fighting. Now Elvira is worried about what people will say. Esteban couldn’t care less, he’s even willing to talk to the kids before Elvira can turn them against him.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #28, lunes 8 abril: The Good, the Bad, and the Smelly

"It was him or you"

Ginebra reminds Mauro that the first time she killed -- presumably the owner of the hairy legs -- it was to save him. That, she declares, was when she lost the last shred of her humanity. (And no one has seen it since...or perhaps ever.) Flashback to teenage Gin wielding a bloody candlestick and saying they have to hide the body, with tween Mauro an unraveling basket case as usual. Thoroughly modern Mauro apologizes profusely and promises he'll never betray her. This is not going the way I want it to go at all.

"I won't be your clown"

Los Figueroa are playing a truly idiotic-looking game of squirt-gun commando freeze tag at Kenzo's bachelor pad. Sandro places the tacks on the lower stair, where a barefoot (why???) Kenzo steps on them and sustains two nasty punctures to the foot. Sandro can't get over how funny this is going to be when he uploads it, and wonder of wonders, Jeronimo tells him it's not funny and he isn't going to be uploading anything. Sandro doubles down and says he'll even add comical music. This kid is a little psychopath. Why can't somebody steal him?

El Amor no Tiene Receta, Capítulo 27, Viernes, 5 de abril, 2024 - "The not-so-successful party, the not-so-successful disguise and the successful information fishing"

Sorry for the LONG wait guys... I didn't proof read so beware of possible typos.

Esteban and Paz talk on the phone, mostly sweet in-love talk.

Gala is feeling sick but it won't let that stop her. She starts painting her face for the barrio party.

Paz and Luna spend quality time preparing the food for the party. Paz brings a chocolate cake out of the oven and I'm salivating. The Robles except from Lupe bring a little something for the party. Vermin (Fefe according to Luna) has brought a piñata. Luna mentions Lupe not being there but Paz says something about her being tired.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #26: A Few Pictures and Thousands of Words

Elvira and Fobo talked about the investigation regarding Samara's “kidnapping”. Nothing ad turned up and she was sad. So many children disappeared, she had looked for her own daughter for over 30 years.. Now she was sure that finding Samara would be the greatest gift she could give her own daughter [I think we can pity her for not knowing what we know about Ginebra].

Luna/Samara explained to Paz how much she missed Monito. She told her how that was a dangerous place. Vermin said he would return to that area to look for him.

El amor no tiene receta, #25, "The Devil is in the little, handwritten, details"

Paz and Mireya talk on the phone, with Ginebra and Mauro listening. Mauro shows himself to Mireya and grabs her arm. Is she spying on him, what does she truly want?

He manhandles her a little, she admits she has been following him because she suspects… he’s married and is only playing with her.

I’m impressed, this woman can think on her feet!

She plans to leave, but he grabs her again. She starts talking about her ex cheating and then abandoning her, no other man will ever do that to her. His strange phone calls, he never wants to share details about his life, she needs to know he isn’t hiding anything. Mauro says he’s a free man, but what he finds odd is the fact that she’d be so curious about his life. Mireya says it’s because she likes him and she can’t stop thinking about him. And she goes in for a passionate, “my life is depending on it” kiss. Which is great, because her life is actually depending on her managing to fool Mauro.

El Amor No Tiene Receta #24, martes 4/2: Let Them Eat Sushi

Paz and Esteban kiss it up some more and decide it's time to call each other "tu." (Was it the limpid pool or the shotgun? Certain aspects of Spanish grammar are still opaque to me.) She surprises him on the way home with some soil samples she collected in tiny bottles she always carries with her. He is charmed but manages to keep his hands on the wheel, to everyone's relief.

Mauro grills Abdul for intel on the dondeabouts of Mysterious Hospital Kid. He reminds him that they can't rely on their usual contacts, because it might get back to Ginebra.

Meanwhile, the devil in a leather dress returns to the manse with her strategic gifts: a model car for Eder, a necklace for Gala, and for Bosco, a copy of "Catcher in the Rye." His favorite book! Who could have guessed? (Um, everyone?) She compliments Gala's podcast and says she'd like to be on it some time. Elvira reminds Gala that the camera adds ten pounds -- to your face. Gee, thanks, yaya.
