Darcy: I checked the Portuguese Telenovela "Lacos de Sangue" & that had 322 episodes. I'm assuming 'VIVR' will have somewhere around 125+ episodes by the Summer, is that correct ?
I am working on the next Toxic Mothers list and can't remember the series that included a vain young one named Gala whose daughter was a child. This had to have been from the last dozen years or so. I can't remember the actress' name either.
Can anyone identify this one?
Rebeca and her furrowed brow ask JE why his doctor needs to see her. She is crying as she starts to shake. The tears start and nurses come in to soothe their agitated patient. They chase JE out.
Angel is still at Rebeca’s grave as we see “Rebeca Sanchez Trejo” on the tombstone. “You are Frida, my hermana” she whispers, then stating the obvious that her mother doesn’t know. Jimena calls and Angel immediately asks her if her mother is there. No is the answer. Angel tells her she is working on something important and will not be returning right away. Where are you Jimena asks? All of a sudden Elena and Santiago arrive and Angel recognizes her mother’s voice and hangs up. Elena is nattering on about the restaurant as Jimena stares into space. Elena calls her on it and asks about Angel. Jimena half smiles and runs out. Santiago comments on the mysteries of women.
The (bought and paid for) doctor examines Rebeca as she moans about her “delicate” condition. I believe he does not want her stressed. JE is supportive as she strokes his cheek appreciatively. She asks him about the wedding. Again. ☹ He assures her they will marry after she returns “home”.
Loli has her friend (sweet and homeless) Pedrito over when Angel arrives at Alma’s. When the children go outside, Angel walks through the house looking at pictures of Rebeca on the wall. She murmurs to herself she wants to find a picture of Rebeca as a child.
Romina receives a kind and loving letter from Mati, complete with a big red heart. Romina actually seems to cry.
Icky calls Jimena but she is talking with Renato in the restraurant kitchen and blows him off. Oddly, cans similar to Campbell’s soup adorn the shelf. So Jimena brings Renato up to speed saying Icky spent the night. He smiles supportively, he understands Icky is the father of her son.
In a touching scene, Doris and Lucas sit on a ledge overlooking the city. They talk to the urn, containing Ramiro’s ashes. Lucas calls Ramiro his brother and thanks him for everything. They stand and scatter his ashes into the wind.
Angel tiptoes into the bedroom and starts opening drawers, desperately looking for a clue. Any clue.
Back at work, Adolfo talks to JE asking how Rebeca is. I believe the upshot of their conversation is that Adolfo assures JE that Ramiro is innocent. Eyes flashing, Misael listens unobserved in the background.
Next, Romina next reads a letter from Javier and becomes completely unglued.
Bruno arrives and initially, Romina is happy to see him. I’m innocent she says grabbing the bars. She starts crying saying she wants to be with her children, her family. Bruno tells her she must accept her role in the fraud!! She says that isn’t true, she hasn’t done anything wrong! He leaves her no choice and she reaches through the bars grabbing his jacket. He pulls away with more threats.
Lucas is in the marketplace with the friend/boyfriend? of Marisa, (do we know his name?). All of a sudden, Lucas sees Brayan and ducks underneath a table. Brayan is looking left to right when the guy confronts him. He says he’s looking for Lucas but he tells him Lucas isn’t there. Luck on his side for once, Lucas crawls out from under the table.
Angel is in Rebeca’s meager “wardrobe” closet and finds the memorabilia box. She sees the clippings and stares, aghast. She takes them with her.
Loli and Pedrito return and Angel beats a hasty retreat.
Home, Angel pulls out a fabric ribbon from the box that matches the infamous doll that Frida threw over the hedge on that fateful day. Now she knows definitively “it is Frida”. Angel sits on the bed aghast.
Misael brings Bruno up to speed about his father’s and JE’s conversation.
JE tells Cris about Romina’s arrest.
Diana
Angel is in bed clutching the ribbon. Elena opens the door, peeks in and then leaves. Angel is wide awake, tormented.
Rebeca is on the phone when Misael comes in. She tells him to leave saying her mother will be coming. Then she tells him she is getting married. Just as he tells her it is HIS baby and he will not allow her to marry JE Alma is at the door, having heard it all.
Alma walks in, livid. Realizing she now knows everything there was no point (or time) to try and concoct more lies. Rebeca chases Misael out. Alma slaps Rebeca, telling her she is sick! She is pregnant by the father of her sister’s husband. “Mentirosa” Alma screams; she is going to tell JE the truth! No I’m getting married tomorrow Rebeca says but Alma’s face reveals her fury and scorn.
Back at Jimena’s now seemingly happy home, Icky is (nauseatingly) sweet and charming. He tells her he has broken it off with Dors.
Meanwhile, arriving “home” Doris is told she no longer has access to “her” apartment. To add insult to injury, her belongings have been packed into two pitiful cardboard boxes. Doris’ face mirrors her ire.
On the phone, Rebeca tells JE how emotional she is about the wedding. And about the baby. He thought bubbles about Angel and then we see the now infamous shot of THE MOON. Angel recalls Rebeca’s vitriolic words and says Dios Mio, mi hermana esta viva!
Fatima is on the phone with Luciano as he walks in and sees his children tight asleep. He barks at her that Romina is innocent and she backs off a bit saying OK as he apologizes for his tone. Fatima tells him she loves him and he replies in kind.
As dawn breaks, we see the family home’s backyard has been transformed into a beautiful wedding venue.
Don Emilio and the family meet. He seems to rebuke the family for not believing in Gabriela’s innocence. He believes someone planted evidence on Gabriela’s desk. He actually tells them he trusts Gabriela more than he does them! He tells JE and Misael that if they want to earn his trust, they need to find out who committed the fraud! JE agrees but Misael turns his head, refusing to meet his abuelo’s piercing stare.
Back at her home, Rebeca’s gaze settles on a jar of rat poison. She recalls her chat with Alma and viewerville does not need to read minds to know exactly what she is thinking.
A sad and tormented Angel sits down with her mother. When she takes her hand, Elena is immediately alert. I have to tell you something serious Angel begins. Elena asks what it is. Angel dives right into the abyss and says simply that Frida is alive. Que? Yes mother, my sister Frida is alive. Elena is shocked yet manages to half smile and cries where is my daughter? Angel gulps and says softly that Frida is Rebeca. Elenas struggles to digest this shocking news as every possible emotion flit through her head…
Diana
Thanks, Diana.
I hope Alma lives long enough to learn impulse control. Calling someone out may give one a certain temporary satisfaction, but it can also be fatal.
Here's hoping Misael stops the wedding if Alma doesn't. AND that Elena doesn't collapse from the revelation.
Exceptional Diana! Thank you so much.
With the schedule change, I was reluctantly set to drop Vivir. But thanks to your comprehensive recaps I’ve been following along. You lay out the emotional landscape so well.
Really appreciate it.
Able to watch the last two episodes. Wow! The pace has really sped up! Hard to figure 125 episodes.
Angel, besides using her brain, is looking better than ever. What’s her next step? Elena is a loose cannon, troubling.
Wondering how can Refrida poison Alma without causing the quickie boda to be postponed? Will she concoct some excuse to explain Alma’s absence?
The Doris/Lucas scene with Ramiro’s ashes was moving.
Thanks Diana !
Clara
SpanProf, thank you for your lovely words.
I so appreciate all the valuable information you added!
Yes, I thought Romina was truly touched by her children's letters and that she was finally realizing what treasures she has. I had a feeling Bruno threatened Romina's children but I couldn't make out the exact words so thank you for confirming that!
I agree that Alma is a dead woman walking unless something or someone intervenes.
"When will Angelli and Elena confront Rebeca about her true identity? Or will they put it off because of the condition of Rebeca's "health."?" are excellent questions! Rebeca seems to prefer public announcements so I'm wondering if she will "out" herself before Angel or Elena have the chance to ask? Speculation only; I have no idea.
I'm shocked Lucas' parents haven't spirited away somewhere safe. Unless he goes underground or stays out of sight (unlikely), he is in mortal danger.
Diana
Urban, I can only think that Alma (mistakenly) believes Rebeca won't harm her which is absurd, especially Alma knows Rebeca is mentally ill.
I fear the wedding is going to happen, barring a miracle...
Diana
Clara, thank you for your very kind words. I'm so glad you are still with us!
"Elena is a loose cannon, troubling" was very well stated and grave me pause. Elena HAS been unpredictable in many of her reactions, especially regarding her somewhat tolerant attitude toward Rebeca considering everything she did to Angel. Now that she knows Rebeca is her daughter will Angel be cast out in the cold??
Hmmm. Perhaps Rebeca will find a way to "excuse" Alma's absence if she is able to "off" her before the boda?
Diana
Diana, thank you for delivering another excellent recap of this powder keg of a show. Yes, that " furrowed brow" that Refrida has perfected to keep JE in her grasp. Son, you are all but roped, hogtied, and branded . heh.
I was surprised that Mild mannered Angel went snooping in Refrida's room and took those papers. She is being much more proactive than I ever expected her to be.
I was also surprised at the smack Alma gave Refrida. Of course, Refrida's natural response is...yes....rat poison . This girl does best not waste time. Look how fast she eliminated that sudden thorn in her side Mau.
Susan
Another great recap, and so detailed, Diana. Thank you!
I had some hopes for Jimena and Renato, but she has reconciled with Icky now. But I double checked with the closed captioning and she does say she wants her family together again, but Icky has to give up Doris, otherwise she is not disposed to stay reconciled. I suppose that it would be best, especially for their son, if the family stays together, but I have a Bingo card with a "Jimena and Renato" square, so...
Doris did look good in the scene with Lucas. Nice pink skirt, a little long perhaps, and nice glittery pink shoes.
Nice legs, too, though nowhere near as good as Zulema's in La mexicana y el güero if in fact they were Zulema's. There was one scene where René was doing exercise on the floor and she was standing, leaning on the desk. We only saw her from the waist of her short skirt down to her shoes. I wondered at the time if it was the actress who played Zulema or a "leg model", someone with "perfect" legs. (For someone who appreciates shapely, somewhat muscular legs.)
I knew you would want to know this :-)
"Adolfo assures JE that Ramiro is innocent." Agente Corral investigated and found out that he got his tattoo after Dulce was killed. (She probably checked the patio comments from a week or so ago :-)
They now want to talk to the kid, Lucas, I believe, about this. Misael heard that, so Lucas is at risk now, though Misael doesn't yet know his name. Sadly, Misael seems to be completely comfortable "eliminating" people now.
'Meanwhile, arriving “home” Doris is told she no longer has access to “her” apartment.' This is just wrong. If this is the kind of guy Icky is, Renato might still have a chance.
I am looking forward to tomorrow. Will the wedding take place; will Alma survive; will Lucas; will Romina; will I?
Andy
Susan, yeah, whatever happened with Mauricio? Is he dead and buried? Just dead? Just buried?
Andy
Thanks Susan!
I also like that Angel is figuring things out for herself. But what a high price she will surely pay for what she is ferretting out.
Yes, Alma's seen about enough and has made a conscious decision to tell all, seemingly without realizing she might pay with her life!!
Diana
Andy, thank you so much.
Your added details were so helpful and greatly appreciated!
"Icky has to give up Doris, otherwise she is not disposed to stay reconciled" is a perfectly logical request. And while it seems Icky seems resolute in saving his marriage, will he stay as "devoted" as he purports to be? We'll see if leopards can change their spots.
I couldn't tell you if it was Tania Lizardo's legs we saw in La Mexicana but I appreciate your remembering such a crucial scene in the plotline. 😊
So, Agent Corral did her job and verified the timing of Ramiro's tattoo and that they want to talk to Lucas. So Misael is aware but doesn't have a name. Yet. Very important!
I do think the wedding is going to happen. Unfortunately. But, I'm sure I'm wrong. I almost always am!!
Diana
Thanks so much Diana, that was great. So much is happening so fast. I can’t imagine how they can go to 125 episodes. When I first started watching telenovelas it was so easy to find out how many episodes a show has. But now I search the internet and never can find how many there are.
I don’t think Alma will survive to see Rebeca married. If she tells she’ll have to go to jail so I think they’ll have Rebeca kill her, just to tie up a loose end. Rebeca and Misael have both turned into cold blooded killers. I’m looking forward to the wedding and the unhappily ever after.
Icky apparently didn’t sit down with Doris and break up with her. He has her things packed up and bars her from the apartment. I’m thinking our chef still has a chance with Jimena as Icky is still icky.
Andy, I got a kick out of your comments. My dad was a “leg man”. He always liked Ann Margaret. She would dance on those variety shows of long ago.
Liz
Thanks so much Liz!
Yes, every recent episode has been a blockbuster in and of itself. Whatever is going to fill 90 plus more episodes??
"I’m looking forward to the wedding and the unhappily ever after". HA! Love it. Me too!
I knew Icky was dodging Doris' calls but I wasn't sure if he actually broke up with her. I appreciate your noting he hadn't. What a coward...
I see Jimena being more of a fit with Sebastian but you and Andy are probably right in that Renato has the inside track. I'm happy with either.
Diana
Thanks so much, Diana. The Patio really, really appreciates your recaps!
Sigh. I am so very tired of Refrida winning every round. And JE (and his mother) are a pair of simpletons. Yes, that doctor must be paid off. She pretended to have a relapse when JE mentioned the high-class obstetrician, who would doubtless have told JE she was farther along in her pregnancy than the night when she poured alcohol down his throat and then drugged him when he seemed to have a resistance to tequila.
Ye Gods, is there NO no important conversation that Misael doesn't manage to overhear. Adolfo came with a bombshell that the tattoo on Ramiro was applied after Dulce's death. Couldn't we get a break and have JE try to find something out about how he got that tattoo.
Bruno told Romina she'd get out on bail if she admitted she did the fraud. What the hell? What a dumb offer. Yes, they won't kill one of her children; but, once there's a trial she'll go to prison. Telenovela Legal at its finest.
Iker is a complete SOB. Doris is not a saint. We know that she helped frame Ramiro, and is riddled with guilt for having done so. But, instead of having a gentle conversation with her, telling her he's going back to his wife, and maybe letting her stay in the apartment until she can find another place, he has some doorman break the news to her. Jimena: run for your life!
Thank you Novelera! Your quotes this morning were off the chart.
"I am so very tired of Refrida winning every round" mirrors my feelings exactly. A few crocodile tears and she's off the hook from getting a sound (revealing) medical appointment!
That said, I loved "JE (and his mother) are a pair of simpletons".
Bruno always has anger bubbling right below the surface. What a hack!
Strange that Iker had no trouble breaking up with his wife, and very cruelly so, right to her face. Yet he can't muster up the gumption to get rid of Doris.
"Ye Gods, is there NO no important conversation that Misael doesn't manage to overhear" is beyond annoying, isn't it??
Diana
The TN you mentioned isn't ringing any bells with me.
No surprise as I can barely remember more than the one or two previous ones I've watched. :)
Diana
Super job, Diana.
"Don Emilio and the family meet. He seems to rebuke the family for not believing in Gabriela’s innocence. He believes someone planted evidence on Gabriela’s desk. He actually tells them he trusts Gabriela more than he does them!" -- My favorite scene. You go, Don Emilio!
I'm still thinking Mauricio is alive somewhere licking his wounds.
You go, Angel! But Elena is in the weirdest of places. She's just got the joyful news that her first born has been found. Like Alma, Elena will try to love the hate and crazy out of Rebeca.
Thank you Diana!!! Clara is exactly right and I loved the way she worded it: 'You lay out the emotional landscape so well.' I've tried many times to express what is special about your recaps by describing it as your compassionate eye, but Clara worded it perfectly, you capture every emotion so perfectly and describe it so well!
I also agree that Angel is looking better and better in every scene. I don't know if it's because the hair color is starting to look more 'lived in' and less fresh from the box, or if Kim is just getting more and more comfortable and confident in Angel's skin, but there's a definite change.
I am surprised that Angel told Elena the truth in the first try and it wasn't drawn out to several near-misses first. That's one of the few things that has me doubting whether or not they could truly be doing 120 episodes, the quickness of reveals and not drawing out the drama. I say if we do have 120 episodes then Refrida and JE have to get married tomorrow. If the marriage doesn't happen for whatever reason, how could they possibly to planning another 90 episodes??? LOL, we'll see. It's still a question mark in my mind because I too searched the internet and couldn't find any official sites saying how many episodes. I did find a fandom site that said 120, but those sites aren't always correct.
Yes, Lucas' only saving grace (where Misael is concerned not Brayan) is that Misael doesn't know who he is, just 'some guy' who talked to Aldolfo. But given Misael's ability to be in the right place at the right time I can't believe it will be long before he finds out.
Rebeca is so 'delicate' she can't leave the hospital to see an OBGYN one day but she's well enough for an outdoor wedding the next morning! Only in novelaland!
Thanks so much Niecie!
Don Emilio is the BEST, isn't he??
You have me relieved? concerned? frightened? (all of these?) in saying Mau is alive. You really have me wondering...
"...Elena is in the weirdest of places. She's just got the joyful news that her first born has been found. Like Alma, Elena will try to love the hate and crazy out of Rebeca" framed that perfectly.
Diana
Darcy, you are really too gracious. Thank you so much amiga.
"Kim is just getting more and more comfortable and confident in Angel's skin, but there's a definite change" reflects your superb observational skills.
I also couldn't believe Angel sat Elena right down and spilled the tea! I also thought she would procrastinate but nopis...Angel surprises me more and more. There is an inner core of strength she (likely) doesn't realize she possesses. It has served her well thus far but I fear she is for a world of hurt.
I keep wondering how JE is going to react when HE finds out who Rebeca really is both psychologically and biologically.
I'm beyond dismayed Lupe hasn't gotten Lucas out of town and am also fearing disaster is going to strike sooner than later.
Diana
Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. Here's my super-short recap of this morning's episode.
*Regina still STUPID believing that Slacker Berta is her daughter. OMG: Fast Forward!
*Connie is like "RENATA IS YOUR DAUGHTER" I am with Connie!
*Augie speaking with Spare Girl on the phone. Something tells me it will NOT end well for Spare Girl.
*Crazy Blanca taunting Honorio on the phone.
*Carlos & Matilde at the church.
*Psycho Fina still scheming & plotting more chaos along with Slacker Berta.
There were several important conversations that I was simply unable to translate in totality. I tried but while I understood a few things in some, in others, it was little or less. Kindly fill in if you can.
Rebeca is preparing breakfast for Alma, Loli and Marisa. She has an extra special ingredient to add to her mother’s bowl, a very unhealthy portion of rat poison. Loli and Marisa take their seats as Rebeca muses about her baby. Marisa clearly looks uncomfortable, raising her eyebrow almost imperceptibly. Alma digs in as Rebeca gives her the side eyes.
Angel is still with Eleana revealing the terrible truth. Elena seems to say there was something familiar about Rebeca. Angel tries to bring Elena down to earth telling her Rebeca is sick (I’ll say) and is in the hospital in “delicate” condition. Angel is being so sweet as she tries to explain but Elena’s heads are in the clouds as she keeps repeating “mi nina, mi nina…”
After breakfast, Rebeca emerges in a white satin robe as Alma starts to grimace, holding her side, obviously in pain. She moves forward seemingly having trouble breathing. Rebeca stares coldly, making no move to help her.
Fatima tries to talk some last-minute sense into JE but it’s an exercise in futility. Basically Cris tells her Rebeca is pregnant, case closed. JE takes Cris’ arm and they march out.
Romina is desperate, afraid for her children’s lives. She falls to her knees, despondent and desperate.
Lupe and Luis are in the market when they receive a visitor, Adolfo. When he tells them he is there to see Lucas, their faces fall. He continues to smile saying he has important information regarding Ramiro. They say Lucas isn’t there, he is with his novia. His genuine smile never leaving his face, Adolfo asks them to have Lucas contact him when he returns. Lupe is visibly upset, talking about Brayan.
Romina calls Bruno with Misael right there in earshot. She seems to have caved to their demands she plead guilty. Bruno smirks and says he will get her out.
Lupe receives another set of visitors, Angel and Elena, asking for Rebeca. Their wedding invitations must have gotten lost in the mail as they are just now informed Rebeca is at JE’s, getting married. Que an astonished Angel manages.
Rebeca wears a cheap looking, one shouldered, tight dress with a slit up to everywhere. I will say her hair looks nice (for once I add cattily). She and Cris chat as Misael glares, arms folded.
In the only enjoyable scene of the day, Monica is standing there, alone, a tray of drinks at her elbow, swilling them down, eyes rolling in her head.
In the car, Angel is distraught telling Elena she will not allow it. Elena begs her, mewling that her sister is pregnant. But the new, improved and determined Angel will not be swayed! Onto the wedding!!
The wedding venue looks lovely and the attendees look fashionably chic. Those gathered have a mixture of various emotions playing across their faces. Somber, thoughtful, downcast, concerned, angry; not a joyous smile to be seen…
Diana
The civil ceremony begins as Rebeca and JE stand in front of the officiant. JE recites his vows, promising to be there for his bride in sickness and in health (too late for that viewerville grouses). Rebeca repeats her vows. We see Monica is already three sheets to the wind as she indulges in a drunken soliloquy. The wedding registry is signed and they are declared husband and wife.
At that moment, Angel comes charging into view. “JE” she pleads, face crumbling. “Angel” he murmurs, looking startled.
Mati and Lucas are waiting at the jail as Luciano brings out Romina. I have my family back she says hugging them tightly as the children are overjoyed. Luciano wears no smile and looks extremely concerned.
Rebeca feigns feeling faint as Angel confronts her. JE is concerned and asks Angel to back off. Elena appears and stands behind Angel. JE is my husband and we are expecting a child Rebeca manages. Angel tells JE Rebeca is an imposter! Angel gives her a dose of reality which Rebeca refuses to swallow. Elena gently urges Angel to leave. Cris also nicely tries to intervene. Rebeca agrees to speak with Angel privately.
Rebeca (looking perfectly fine and robust to me) has her jaw jutted out as she faces Angel. Angel tells her she knows she is Frida, her hermana! Rebeca stares and at first, denies it. As the best defense is a good offence, Rebeca accuses Angel of trying to ruin her wedding. Angel tells Rebeca they are nothing alike. Rebeca spits out that Angel had a life of privilege and wealth while she lived in poverty. “I am the only victim” she assures Angel. “I am, not you!” Angel tearfully fights back accusing her of wanting vengeance against her and her family.
On the couch, Alma sips tea as Loli and Pedrito watch over her. Loli says something about Angel and the fabrica. The wheels in Alma’s head start turning.
JE starts berating himself to Cris for being an imbecile (good so we don’t have to).
Elena gets in the car remembering Rebeca stopping the motorcycle from mowing her and Angel down. She recalls her immediate connection with Rebeca. She cannot believe “mi Frida” has returned to her after all these years.
Rebeca walks over to JE (holding her stomach as we hiss “liar”!). JE is concerned as the guests call for besos.
In the saddest scene of the evening, Angel sits in a solitary chair around the corner, crying as the Wedding March plays in the background.
Cris is concerned about Rebeca’s pregnancy (and her nieto), asking her to please see the GYN JE recommended. Rebeca assures her firmly that she has the utmost confidence in her own doctor.
Memories of Dulce swirling in his head, Sebastian is uncomfortable at the wedding and after congratulating JE, beats a hasty retreat.
Misael “congratulates” JE and seems to tell him that he won’t be happy with Rebeca (well we could have told him that). JE stares at his cousin’s far from warm and reassuring words.
Diana
Lupe talks with Marisa, coherent and seemingly improving.
Adolfo assures Cris JE is a good man. She thanks him for everything. They talk about Mau. Geez, this guy will not stay buried (if indeed he ever was) …
The barrio party is in full swing. Loli and Pedrito are there, Alma still in pain. My thought is that if Rebeca truly wanted to kill Alma, she would be dead right now. I’m leaning toward Rebeca intentionally giving Alma a lesser dose of poison to simply stop her from going to JE before the wedding. What are your thoughts??
Thank you for the party Rebeca says to JE, I am so happy. JE emphasizes (yet again) that the most important thing is the baby. He again rather anxiously asks if she is all right. Yes she says. He asks about Angel and her response is swift, angry and defensive. He reminds her to calm down. My love she says. JE recalls his first, REAL wedding where he and Angel were aglow with happiness, toasting their future.
Rather sternly, Elena accuses Angel for what she did at Rebeca’s wedding. Angel is unable to defend herself; Elena rues the lost years and says Angel has no idea what Rebeca had to suffer and endure…
Diana
Dear Diana, thank you for another great report of all the crazy.
Angel , you go girl. Kim is bringing some of her villain sassy to this good girl role. Gala ( Refrida...which autocorrect keeps changing to Refried...not wrong) is doing a spectacular job of making me forget every good girl role I have ever seen her in and loving to have her with her petulant scowls and frowns.
JE , well, you made your bed , now you must sleep in it. ...with BSC Refrida. I bet she will feel strong enough to want to climb into his bed for the noche de boda. What will timid , wishywashy JE do about that ? Watching her shower kisses on still as a statue JE is so great.
It is going to be super duper fun watching scenes in the household now that Refrida has managed to slither into it. I can't wait to see her interacting with all the mansion inhabitants .
Susan
SpanProf, thank you so much!
It will be interesting if any surprise or shock shows on Rebeca's face the next time she sees Alma. I agree that Alma is still very much in danger. Will Rebeca try and finish her off at a later date?
I appreciate your relating Misael and JE's conversation.
Now that you mentioned it, Angel's foray into the wedding was more of a stir than a full on assault wasn't it? I thought she held her composure remarkably well.
I didn't realize Lupe said Lucas is gone! He should have but I have my doubts.
I think Rebeca's true identity will be revealed. To be honest, the way things are speeding along, I have a feeling it may be sooner rather than later...
Diana
Thanks so much Susan.
"JE , well, you made your bed , now you must sleep in it. ...with BSC Refrida. I bet she will feel strong enough to want to climb into his bed for the noche de boda". HA! Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens...
I think both actresses are doing a great job. Both are being somewhat cast against type but they are killing it...
Diana
Thanks Diana, you do such a wonderful job of retelling the events of the episode. It’s hard to believe you don’t always understand what’s being said.
I couldn’t believe the wedding happened. Rebeca was the only happy one. I really thought Misael would announce the child was his. I wonder how “early” the baby will be. And how the truth will come out. On a positive note, Misael was very truthful to JE.
I wanted to smack Elena. When she was recalling Rebeca saving them I thought she was seeing the light, but I was wrong. I’m not sure if she knows that Rebeca knew who she was. Or even if she thinks Angel is just telling her. But she is only thinking of her Frieda and not how Angel is feeling. And how the older sister has treated her.
I kept waiting for Alma to die. I find it hard to believe Rebeca is letting her live.
Mau’s body was found by the police. I would think his car would help identify him, or his fingerprints, since he must be in the system. But it seems nobody’s notified the family. Are we sure he’s dead!
Fatima and Luciano are in for some heartache. He did not look happy when the kids invited their mom home. And how do you get out of jail when you plead guilty. Or sign something saying you did it.
Can’t wait to see how Rebeca adjusts to life in the mansion!
Liz
Liz, thank you so much for your kind words.
It really was a joyless wedding, wasn't it?
Elena is "only thinking of her Frieda and not how Angel is feeling" is spot on! And I have a sinking feeling it's going to get much, much worse.
I thought Mau was dead but it is odd nothing's been said to the family as you noted.
I don't understand how and why Romina is out of jail. If she is pleading guilty she'll soon be on her way back, right?? And you are right, Fatima and Luciano are in for a rocky road ahead.
Diana
Thank you, Diana, for your recap. I can't think of an episode of a novela where I've been so disgusted. Clearly it's been many, many years since I've seen a Mejia production.
So Angelli goes to all the trouble of racing into the wedding, but she doesn't say out loud that Rebeca is Frida and recount to everyone what Frida said to her in her hospital room, outright admitting that she set out to steal JE and ruin her life. But no. Angelli agrees to have a private conversation. What good did that do?
Lupe lied to Adolfo about Lucas being gone because she's afraid he'll be convinced to go against Brayan because of what happened to Ramiro. Another hope sputtered out.
Misael told JE that he was not going to be happy with Rebeca. He told him outright that his mother was pregnant with him when his parents married and that his father never loved his mother. He more or less said that a child growing up in a house with no love would feel it.
I think Alma is going to make it. They made a point of saying how much she vomited.
Elena is just a sap. I also could have slapped her for asking her good child to not spoil things for the horrible one.
Just thoroughly displeased with this novela.
Oh, and Fatima is NOT going to be best pleased when Romina moves in with Luciano and the children. The whole thing about her posting bond by admitting she's guilty and just walking away. Pfft! No trial?
Darcy: Bold Prediction: I don't see Elena being among the living soon because Crazy Becca/Frida is determined to instigate a massive Body Count.
Big question is whether Crazy Becca/Frida wants to kill Angelli too ?
SpanProf: I'm assuming you've watched the Portuguese original ?
Thanks Diana! For processing and relating with your “compassionate eye.” So quickly too.
Alma must have a strong constitution! Your theory makes sense Diana—just get wed and deal with fallout later—but Reb was spooning it in furiously and how could she know dosage?
At the table, Reb rather pointedly said nice things to Alma in front of Marisa.
At the happy event, Alma’s absence was excused to Cris as Alma was closed-minded and unhappy Reb was pregnant. Gullible Cris accepted this. And IIRC, Reb thanked Cris for lending her that tacky dress. Rebecca the Robust, good one Diana!
Loli told Alma that Angel had come by looking for her.
Angel of the steely eyes needs an ally, preferably in-house! Fatima?
Clara
Good work, Diana.
Are there really going to be almost 90 more episodes? Moving this to 1PM screws up my days because it isn't On Demand until the next morning.
Rebeca wears a cheap looking, one shouldered, tight dress with a slit up to everywhere. I will say her hair looks nice (for once I add cattily). Agree. I envy the hairstyle; it made her look like the young Brooke Shields.
Angeli should have come in with a lab assistant to get a DNA sample for proof that ReFrida is her evil sister. No public confrontation until the results are in. As for Elena, she never saw Frida abusing Angeli, who should have recorded the conversation where ReFrida said she would destroy her life. L'esprit d'escalier y tout le monde...
Elena defending ReFrida reminds me of so many reddits in which parents cater to their Golden Brats at the expense of their good children either to keep the peace and/or to stay in denial about how nasty the spoiled or evil child is. This never ends well for the parents.
As for how ReFrida will "adjust," she will be just as entitled as when she tried taking over the restaurant. However she might end up butting heads -- or something else -- with Monica. I see a catfight in their future.
Misael is right about growing up in a loveless household. No child deserves that.
As for Alma, I think ReFrida miscalculated the amount of poison required to kill her. She has no reason to kill her now that the secret is out. I think she would get off on seeing her go to prison for a long time and getting hell from other inmates for kidnapping.
Good morning Novelera!
Your comment on Elena that "I also could have slapped her for asking her good child to not spoil things for the horrible one" was excellent!
I agree Angel's appearance at the wedding wasn't what we'd hoped for but the fact she did go shows she's gaining confidence and courage.
While I wish Lupe had told Adolfo the truth, I can't blame her in a way; she is afraid Lucas will get hurt again and this time it might be far worse. Or fatal.
Misael was right (for once) in what he told JE about marriage.
Diana
Thank you so much Clara!!
"Reb rather pointedly said nice things to Alma in front of Marisa". Thank you so much for adding that, that must be why Marisa was doing the side eye thing. :)
I also like what you said about Rebeca just pilin' on the poison. Yes, by how much would she have had to increase the dosage to kill a grown woman??
Thank you for another very important point I missed. "At the happy event, Alma’s absence was excused to Cris as Alma was closed-minded and unhappy Reb was pregnant." I was trying to see if anything was said but this went over my head.
Yes! Fatima is definitely an ally in waiting for Angel. Perhaps Luciano too? Sebastian?
Diana
Thanks so much Urban.
So you think the dosage was miscalculated; you are likely right. We know Rebeca is amoral (among other things) but if she intended to kill Alma, she got married without any pang of a guilty conscience. Unfathomable.
"Elena defending ReFrida reminds me of so many reddits in which parents cater to their Golden Brats at the expense of their good children either to keep the peace and/or to stay in denial about how nasty the spoiled or evil child is" is sadly true.
You are so right in that Elena definitely needs to hear Rebeca's poisonous words toward Angel for herself. I think Angel has made a good start but agree she is going to need to be more proactive to fight fire with fire.
I think all of us are perplexed as to how long this story will stretch into another 90 episodes. At first I thought moving to daytime would be good, mostly because I was missing so much of Vida. But the timeframe is tougher than I thought as it is smack in the middle of the day.
Diana
Diana, you are amazing . It is such a pleasure to read your recaps with breakfast or a cup of tea.
I guess nobody in the mansion has noticed that Mau isn't showing up at the dining room table for meals. Gee, must be sad to be missed by.....no one. I miss him baiting Refried at every opportunity.
Well, Angel's blissful world is crumbling with the guy who said that he would love her forever.. .and then...didn't , but she looks great in her fabulous wardrobe .
Susan
Thank you Diana! You know it's a dark episode when the highlight is Misael giving advice!!! LOL But he was exactly right, and JE is utterly stupid!!! Cris and DE are naive and misguided for advising him to go through with it. You did an amazing job of describing the sad wedding though, and although I didn't notice the dress I did think Refrida's hair and makeup looked beautiful!
Fraud is a white-collar crime. I don't know how it works in Mexico, let alone in Novelaland, but in the U.S. you actually could plead guilty to a white-collar crime and be sent home until your sentencing hearing, which could be months or even a year or more later.
I don't know why Elena needs to hear Rebeca say anything to know the truth! What does she believe? Rebeca just happened to run into her sister without knowing it, kissing her fiance at first sight, befriending her and ingratiating herself into her life/restaurant, then doing the opposite and ordering her to clean the dishes/floors in said restaurant, 'sleeps' with her sister's husband, breaks up her marriage, flies her divorce papers for her, gets preggers, marries her ex the day after she's too weak to see a doctor; do you really need to hear the evil cackle to draw the conclusion here??? I mean really, could even believe that's an accident? a mistake? It was heartless for Elena to suggest to Angel that she just sit tight and let Rebeca marry her man, or to reprimand her afterwards! I can understand wanting your child back but to totally disregard the impact to the other daughter is ice cold!!
Honestly keeping Lucas from Aldolfo is a good idea. It also keeps him from Misael, and really what does Lucas know that they don't? That Doris was the one to trick Ramiro? Okay, sure; but then that just puts Doris in danger too and still doesn't get them to the whole truth! I have more sympathy for keeping Lucas safe at this point mostly because the 'good' guys aren't doing anything to figure it out themselves except waiting for the truth to fall into their laps!!! First, Santi is guilty, beat him! Oh, Santi isn't guilty, it's Ramiro? Tell him off!!! Oh, not Ramiro? Find the minor child caught in the middle and put his life in danger by demanding the truth!!! How about doing some actual thinking??? Someone stole $50M (or was it 500M?) dollars from your company (and it wasn't the person who started working there after the theft) and on the same timeline, grandfather's safe was broken into and documents stolen while poor Dulce and child were sadly killed in the process. Do you really not see that those things HAVE to be connected??? Do the cops not see this? Do you really think some random barrio dude had anything to do with this? Or even if you now know he was set up, do you really think he knew who set him up or why? Or that Lucas knows? Lucas just knows enough to get himself and Doris killed, he doesn't know what happened. The good guys need to forget about Ramiro and do some actual investigating into how and why that fraud occurred and how it relates to Dulce's death. Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the obvious, which is if Ramiro was innocent, Santi is back on the hook!!! JE expected him immediately when he had no reason to and doesn't think about him at all now....odd.
Meant to add that during poison table talk, Reb said she would be telling JE the truth, and whether or not she was getting married depended on his reaction.
Clara
Susan, your words are so sweet; thank you...
As usual you had me laughing with your comments on Mau being "missed by...no one" :) Like you, I also miss his taunting of Refrida and especially Monica!
It seems we are all doing a lot of talking about a dead guy...Hmmm. ;)
Diana
Diana, great recap and I really appreciate all the work you put into these.
This novela really is a bit crazy, nobody seems to act in a decent or reasonable way. Elena is thrilled to have her older daughter back, but has not actually talked with her about anything. And Elena is giving poor Angel grief.
It's hard to figure this out, but Bruno did make an offer to Romina, sign a statement that you were the guilty party in the fifty million dollar fraud and we will get you released.
But as a couple of our patio peeps have noted, Romina was not with the firm when the fraud was committed. And now we are asking how admitting guilt is a "get out of jail free" card.
Ah, I see Darcy has a good explanation for this.
But are they really going to make us sit through another hundred episodes until don Emilio remembers that Misael is the guilty party?
Refrida's poisoning Alma was another "highlight". Just spoon a lot of warfarin into Alma's meal. Was Alma too polite to say something about the taste? At least she has survived... so far.
Refrida is, at least in some ways, another Monica. She would probably like to consummate the marriage with JE and lock things up neatly, but since she is "ill", maybe that won't happen.
And in an age when DNA tests are an everyday thing, how long can she get away with this? But she has married into a family that has already done a round of this.
So much silliness in this novela, but it is fun at times. Still, in the future I don't think I'll be watching any more Mejia novelas.
:-)
Andy
Diana, I enjoyed revisiting this busy episode through your vivid storytelling. Fantastic job.
I've nothing to add. I'm looking forward to Monday. I feel sorry for the house servants that Rebeca will trash.
Darcy, thank you so much for your lovely words.
I wanted to cut and paste your entire sensational riff about Elena but will simply include my favorite line: "...do you really need to hear the evil cackle to draw the conclusion here???" Perfect. While I can't imagine being in Elena's shoes, whyever would she champion Rebeca rather than her daughter who has been nothing but lovingly supportive of her? At the wedding, she had no idea Rebeca is Frida yet she showed amazingly little compassion! "It was heartless for Elena to suggest to Angel that she just sit tight and let Rebeca marry her man, or to reprimand her afterwards!" Exactly!!
Your logic was flawless with all that you noted, especially regarding Lucas and Santiago. Everything is being processed so slowly, when it's being processed at all!!
"You know it's a dark episode when the highlight Misael is giving advice." 😊 Exactly!
Diana
Clara, thanks for that important nugget "during poison table talk"!! Something else I hadn't understood.
SpanProf, thank you for checking on the number of epis. I really hope there are many fewer episodes. I like that so much is happening so quickly but it's hardly going to be possible to sustain this level of shock and revelation indefinitely. Famous last words...
Niecie, thanks so much. I have a feeling Rebeca is NOT going to be making any friends in her new residence. Call me cynical!
Diana
Andy, thanks so much.
"Was Alma too polite to say something about the taste?" HA! Great point!
A DNA test will likely be inevitable at some point. But so many times the results are altered and the truth only comes out when the child falls ill, etc.
I understand her desperation but Romina IS making a bad, life altering decision by admitting to a crime she did not commit. Unless I'm missing something, realistically, all that SHOULD need to happen is for someone to point out "Romina was not with the firm when the fraud was committed". Sounds simple right?
"Refrida is, at least in some ways, another Monica. She would probably like to consummate the marriage with JE and lock things up neatly..." had me nodding in agreement. I'm sure that will be the case but I see JE shutting her down.
Mejia may not be for everyone but I've liked everything I've seen of his. I readily admit "Corazon Salvaje" is one of my all time favorites. Crazed, over the top, but I loved it.
Diana
Susan
I watched Mariana de la Noche a while back when it reran during the daytime.
The crazy "father", the glade, the tree, the moon. Hoo, boy!
Well, at least Mejia is consistently... something.
:-)
Andy
OMG Susan, Corazon Salvaje was aired in 2010 I think. It started airing at 9 and then was moved to midnight. The intrepid recappers still recapped it, bless them. As I had to get up at 4 am I remember trying to go to bed around 10 or 10:30 and set my alarm for midnight, then go back to sleep for a few hours after it ended. I miss Eduardo, my telenovio...
Andy, I saw bits and pieces of Mariana in reruns, Angelica Rivera, right? Yes, the same gigantic moon too!! Guess it's his trademark. :)
Diana
Diana, yes, Angélica Rivera was in Mariana de la Noche. Alejandra Barros as Mariana. Jorge Alinas as the galán; he seems to have a following, UA likes him and I remember that Anita was a big fan.
Also Patricia Navidad who was my telenovia at the time. I loved her later in Mi adorable maldición as Apolonia; loved the name, too.
I didn't think Mariana was a great novela, but it did have some eye candy.
Andy
All the times Misael eavesdrops and he missed out on Rebecca and Angel's convo.
Has it been determined that Mauricio is really dead? Rebecca definitely needed to steal the cellphone or the police would be looking through his recent calls. If all his ID was stolen and he is in a hospital with, you guessed it , amnesia, would they run fingerprints on him. I'm on team hoping he is alive to be a thorn in the bad guys side. I know he is bad, but I wouldn't put it past Monica to have set him up in the jewelry theft 10 Years ago. Not sure anyone will see my comment as it's a couple of days later.....
Kat, so glad you are joining us! Thank you for all of your great comments...
Not sure what Romina's cellmate might have heard? I imagine she was in jail for a few days. I wonder how many days of freedom she will have before she's back in the slammer.
Yes, Rebeca's dress was hideous. "She went from needing 7 months of bed rest to keep the baby to participating in her wedding in high heels" is exactly right. It WAS amazing how she perked up for her big day wasn't it??
At first it did appear Mau was dead and buried. But now, I'm not so sure...Amnesia would be a very good plotline if he did survive being run over.
