El amor no tiene receta, #29, Wednesday, "Vermin and the cockroach factory"

At Vila Vila de Cortez Esteban and Elvira talk about Berenice’s murder, he plans to continue investigating. They start fighting because Elvira was apparently off to Europe after her daughter was killed, leaving Esteban alone to take care of the company and the kids. Then they fight about his work at the company and the time he’s wasting hanging out with the cocinera. Esteban says the kids will go to therapy soon, Elvira doesn’t like the idea; what about his dad, where has he gone? Does he want the cocinera to be his new queen? Are they involved?

Esteban admits that he’s interested in Paz, and he will defend his feelings for her.

Elvira takes this as well as one might think, that woman will never replace her daughter, how could he forget about her so fast? Esteban points out he was alone for 6 long years, and he has always honored his wife’s memory.

For Elvira a whole life wouldn’t be enough.

Esteban calls her selfish, he has the right to love again. And he’s sure she will be sorry for her words, Paz will change their lives for the better.

That friend of Gala’s arrives, and all the kids are listening to Esteban and Elvira fighting. Now Elvira is worried about what people will say. Esteban couldn’t care less, he’s even willing to talk to the kids before Elvira can turn them against him.

On the roof of the magical coffee beans, Paz is crying over everything and anything. She begs God to give her a sign, help her find her daughter and tell her if she’s doing the right thing. Luna hears her and is afraid something is wrong. Paz tells her she loves her, she’s sad because she will miss her a lot, but she will take her to her mom. They both cry. Luna says she wants to go live with her mom and Cobija, but she’s afraid her mom will hit her again. She also wants to meet the uncle Paz told her about. They promise to always love one another, Paz promises Luna will always have a home in her house, and a second family. All she ever wanted was to protect her. Hugs and cries.

Their love will be forever, even if they won’t see one another every day. Tomorrow Paz will take her home and Luna plans to ask her mom to allow her to have the Roble as part of her family. What a hilarious thought!

Luna says she made a wish while blowing in her birthday candles, and that was for Paz to find her daughter. She’d love to be Maria’s friend. Paz gets emotional, she’d love for this to happen, too. They start singing their song.

As Vermin arrives, they are hugging once again. He says he doesn’t want them to be separated again, he’s not sure Luna will be better off somewhere else.

At Vila de Criminales Locos Ginebra is interrogating Dr. Monica. Has she seen her daughter? Monica feels very tired, Gin asks her to stop hiding the truth. Monica admits she’s scared, Gin accuses her of allowing her daughter to be taken out of the hospital. It was her daughter, right? Yes, Monica admits, and Gin remembers to half pretend to be happy that her kid is alive. She then asks where Samara is.

Monica says she doesn’t know who took her, she wants to call for a cab and leave. Mauro arrives to add some pressure, was she an accomplice of the kidnappers? Monica says that’s not true, the woman who brought the child said her name was Morena Jurado and the little girl was called Luna.

Then she asks if they put something in her coffee, and Gin denies it, but reminds her that helping those kidnappers is a serious crime.

They finally allow her to leave.

Alone with Mauro, Ginebra is upset Samara is still alive. He says Vermin has strict instructions to find out if Paz has Samara.

Vermin tells Lupe he’s worried about Paz, between the mother-in-law from Hell and those bratty kids, she won’t have an easy life. Lupe asks him to mind his won business, Fermin is sure Paz will get hurt. People who live in glass houses…

Kenzo video calls Nandy to tell her about his kids humiliating him again. She encourages him, he whines some more, Felipa kissed him, he felt nothing, but she insisted. What to do, what to do? Bye-bye now, I just needed someone to hear me out, go back to sleep (as if Nandy could sleep after hearing all that whining from a so-called man).

Esteban has called the kids, he wants to talk to them, even if Elvira disagrees with what he plans to confess. But first he speaks about Bosco smoking and Gala eating better, with Paz’ help.

And then he says he decided to give love another chance. Yes, with Paz Roble.

Bosco starts screaming, he hates Paz and he also hates Esteban for lying when he said he wasn’t involved with her in the past.

When Esteban mentions a therapist (talk about bad timing), Bosco hates this idea, too. Actually, he hates everybody! He wants to storm out, Esteban stops him, Elvira predicts that his relationship with that woman will be his ending.

Luna and Monito are sleeping in Paz and Mireya’s beds. He doesn’t want Luna to leave the next day, Paz says they will figure out a way from them to keep seeing one another.

Paz is telling Mireya how much she’s hurting because Luna is leaving the next day, it’s the same pain she felt when she lost her daughter. Her heart tells her she can’t be away from Sam, but she understands she must do it. She is so afraid Mauro will do something to her, Mireya can only hope that Ginebra will protect her daughter. We have a better chance of Kenzo growing a pair or Elvira developing angel wings, but this is just my subjective opinion.

Fermin is on the phone, asking someone for something tonight, as soon as possible.

A bit later he is seen in the house, but I don’t understand what he’s doing, throwing something on the floor? He is wearing gloves and has a duffle bag with him. He eventually leaves.

Esteban is speaking with Berenice’s portrait. He knows she agrees with his relationship with Paz, but what can he do now? Is the guy asking his dead wife how to hook up with his current girlfriend? Try a Ouija Board.

Flashback to the two of them on the beach, kissing and being happy.

It’s morning and Vermin wakes up the entire house with his screams.

Oh, there are cockroaches everywhere. Big, ugly, scary cockroaches. Fermin thinks they should leave the house immediately, Paz refuses to abandon their home.

In their clean, insect free mansion, Gin tells Mauro he wants him to be around when the Roble family has to leave their house and try to spot Samara.

Back at Vila de Cockroaches, more screaming and then Paz calls the exterminator. The guy arrives, says the situation is very serious, he needs to control everything.

He goes up on the roof, where Vermin and Pepa are searching for something in the wall – Vermin finds more insects (in the most revolting manner known to man).

Carla, that woman who closed the restaurant, comes with news. But then she sees the cockroaches and is shocked. Taking her outside, Paz tries to explain they follow all the rules, they fumigate every month, she doesn’t understand why this is happening. To make matters a lot worse, Fermin and the exterminator come downstairs, and the expert says they found cockroaches in the structure of the house, too. That is very dangerous, they could start eating cables and electrical wires.

A strange man is watching the house from the street, taking pictures.

Back in the house, the family is trying to get rid of all the insects. Paz arrives with the bad news about the entire house being infested, it’s so odd that everything just happened over night.

Esteban is having his morning coffee when there is a knock on the door. It’s his father, Porfirio. Yeah, he’s feeling better now. Esteban would have never imagined he’d come, he’s happy to see he’s feeling better.

Porfirio came because he heard Esteban was locked up and was worried about his grandkids. Esteban would have loved to have a message from him and yes, it was a hard time for the kids.

It’s a very hard time for him, too, he even fought with his best friend.

Eder arrives calling for his father and meets the abuelo. The boy doesn’t understand why he’s here but wants to hug him. Porfirio is happy to do it and then Eder says his dad missed him a lot.

Porfirio came to see his grandkids; Eder gives him the whole gossip about his siblings being upset about dad’s new girlfriend. Quite a blabbermouth this kid.

Monica arrives to talk to Paz as the strange man takes pictures.

On the roof she tells Paz not to return Luna with her mother. She says she was with Ginebra and her brother the other night, she’s sure they spiked her coffee. Luna will be in danger in that house. Paz was right, but they need more proof.

Paz says they can ask Monito, he was present during the attack, and he saw Sam’s uncle.

She goes back downstairs and calls Luna by her real name, Sam. Then she arrives and calls her Luna again (directing error?). She tells her she can’t go back to her family today; she will stay with them for a while longer. Luna doesn’t say anything, but I’m kind of sad she’s not going back to Ginebra’s and taking some cockroaches in her suitcase.

Thanks, Adriana. Love the title!

If Samara brought in roaches Ginebra would kill her on the spot and claim it was justifiable homicide.

I can't wait for the day that Paz finds out the truth about Vermin. She should tear him apart for all this (or maybe Mireya will). He is such a coward for keeping this secret and now with this action he put the whole neighborhood in danger. She needs to be rid of him.

Monica is now in danger as well and we're not even at the hump episode.

It looks to me like Ginebra's blood lust is insatiable.

Adriana, thank you for the timely recap. I expected to wait till lunchtime to read it! Happy to realize I am now getting the main gist of everything going on. I needed the Elvira going off to Europe to recover from her daughter's death explained.
Wonder if she stayed away the 6 years and that is why she has now moved herself into Esteban's house.
Initially I thought Vermin was putting gasoline in the house as it kinda sounded like a liquid coming from the bag. I feared he was going to burn them out or kill them all! Cockroaches is nothing compared to that. The absolute horror they all felt with the roaches was rather ridiculous. Admittedly I live in the south now so the big palmetto bugs invade our house periodically, but i just squish them and they are dispatched . Now if there had been a bunch of rats or mice I would have reacted like they did. Perhaps I'm not freaked out by cockroaches because of my dad. He was stationed in Okinawa during WWII. He made a bet with his fellow Sea Bees that he would eat a roach which he won. He then went on to bet he would let it crawl down his throat for $5 (but I digress). Vermin probably dug the hole in the wall and meanwhile had a handful of the roaches to show Pepe to make it seem they had invaded the walls.

The guy taking pictures is Gin's lackey with the stupid pointy beard. I've forgotten his name, if he even has one.

Esteban is 6 years too late with putting his kids in therapy! When was Esteban in jail, did I miss it or just already forgotten it? Seems strange his father would have heard about it as they are estranged. Their conversation was a bit difficult for me to follow.

Good point, Kat, about the possibility that Elvira may have been away for the six-year time jump. She should have been around to help her nietos, but would still have resisted mental health assistance. It's usually the ones that need it most who reject it the most vigorously.

The lackey's name is Abdul. He has been present for all the atrocities so far, including harassing Vermin for payment of the usurious debt he owed in the opening episode. Rubio was the ringleader of that. This tells me that Paz' baby was Ginebra's backup plan from the get go.

Thanks Adriana, I enjoyed reading your recap.

In a way Ginebra drugging the doctor worked in Paz’s favor. Now the doctor is even more on her side.

The roaches were awful. I can handle one, and kill it, but they were everywhere. Was Vermin trying to get the family to relocate? They have no where to go. I’m still hoping Porfirio will save the day. And Paz will have to tell Esteban the truth and he will have to believe her. The big problem will be Bosco, who would love to get Paz in trouble. He prefers Elvira and Ginebra.

The man working for Ginebra took a picture of the doctor at the house so they’ll soon know Sam is there. They need to move her fast.

I didn’t realize Elvira had left after Bernice was killed. I’m waiting patiently for her to realize everything that’s happening to them is because of Ginebra.

Adriana,

Your sage, witty and irreverent comments were the perfect accompaniment to yet another frustrating episode.

"Vila de Criminales Locos" and "On the roof of the magical coffee beans, Paz is crying over everything and anything" were marvelous.

"She is so afraid Mauro will do something to her, Mireya can only hope that Ginebra will protect her daughter". Huh?? I couldn't believe what I read.

Porfirio was such a bright spot. I don't care that mere days ago he was firing guns off in the air when Esteban visited, he's here now.

Dr. Monica certainly got a wake up call...

Kat, I also thought Vermin was pouring gas and could not fathom why! Now I have no distaste for mice, rats, etc. but admit cockroaches are an entirely different matter. I also don't understand the purpose of the infestation.

Ginebra is closing in. Will she have the house raided or appear in person to reclaim her non-child? The only positive thing I can think of is that either way, if Luna is returned to her, Ginebra will be carefully watched and won't be able to hurt her.

Bosco is still a jerk and Elvira still bares her teeth.

Diana

Thanks, Adriana.
It was so funny that every time Elvira had a criticism, Esteban pointed out she is no saint. Though it's astonishing she dares criticise him for the way he 'wasn't there for his kids' when she herself went off to Europe. Even if she was hurt, why didn't she offer him any help? I can't stand people like her. The internet is full of them-I won't help nor offer help but will tell you you messed-up and will scream so loud they'll hear me in Alasca.
i wanted to laugh when Elvira at first was like 'your kids must know about your affair' but once he said he will tell them himself, she was very much against the idea. I hope I got that part right. She genuinely hates him but she is unhappy in general which makes things even worse. But it's funny to see people her age without a hint of self-awareness.
How did Monica resist telling them all she knew? I thought they'd make her tell them everything she knew because the drug makes you relax. But how relaxed do you have to be to spill all your secrets? It's not a truth potion, surely?
Fermine promised to ruin Paz' family's life. So how will they get Luna out of there without Ginevra being informed the girl is there?
Kenzo is horribly insensitive. He knows Andy fancies hhim and tells her all his problems and then is like 'adios, thanks for being my agony aunt.' It feels as if he's taking advantage of her somehow. But I'm not a fan of people who talk about what's happening to them and then practically hang-up. I suppose he'd listen to her troubles too. But I wanted to hiss at him to shut up when he started telling her about the kiss.
I never thought a phrase 'justifiable homicide' would ever make me laugh but Urban proved me wrong.

Adriana, thanks for the image of Elvira sprouting angel wings and fluttering away. Now what a sight that would be.

Cher Adriana, merci , your recap was magnifique.

Well, Vermin released the vermin. Whose idea was that ? I guess the plan was to make everyone run out of that house filled with vermin and Abdul Manbun was there to see if Samlunamaria was one of the people running out...a bizarre , icky plan .

Liz, like you, I thought that Vermin was pouring gasoline all over the rooms and was going to set the house on fire . ugh. I suppose that is what the writers wanted us to think.

Dad Porfirio just shows up and knocks on the door. Eder adores his dad , but he wants to hug grumpy Abuelo . Sweet kid. Loved his shirt." Reach for the stars.' These kids love shirts with English words on them. It seemed as though Eder actually came between Esteban and Bosco and try to hold back hos dad when Were an kind of lunged at Bosco when he mouthed off about Paz.

That living room with the different floor levels must be interesting to navigate . I would definitely be falling a lot in that room. The characters look like they are on a,stage ..ha.

Where are the writers going to take us next? Will the Robles go to the ranch while their home is fumigated?
Susan

Waterlily, ha...."agony aunt"...that is a new one for me. I'm writing it down .
Susan

Adriana, this was great. Loved all of your "Vilas".

Cannot somebody kill off Vermin already? Have a car run him over! He will do anything (even consort with cucarachas) to save his own skin. Disgusting!

Guess the plan isn't working as long as Paz refuses to be "flushed" out of the house so Mr. Ugly Man Bun can witness Luna leaving. Maybe they can move up to the roof while the fumigation is going on.

I was happy to see papá Porfirio appear on the scene. Maybe he will give Elvira a run for her money since Esteban seems incapable of getting rid of her or moving.

Best characters: Eder, Mojito, Luna and Cobija.

My favorite Azela Robinson role was in the comedy "Como tú no hay dos." She played a restaurant owner opposite Henry Zakka.

waterlily, good take on Kenzo. His insensitivity is annoying.

Whoopsie, should of been "MONITO"

Jarifa, I like Monito , and I like mojitos. My Cuban friend makes delicious ones.

Porfirio is a grim and unsmiling abuelo right now , but Esteban looked happy to see him and maybe hopeful that the rift between them might be repaired . Will we find out soon what caused their separation ?

Susan

Susan, I share your mojito appreciation. ; )

Adriana, thank you so much for making a romp out of what sounds like a horrific episode. I may not even watch.

Do you think the cucarachas will be gone by tonight? 😬

Working on last night's epi now. It was a doozy.

Thanks Adriana! Sorry I forgot to comment yesterday!!! I'm behind watching but I so appreciate your recap and enjoy your humor as always my friend!
