El Amor No Tiene Receta #26: A Few Pictures and Thousands of Words

Elvira and Fobo talked about the investigation regarding Samara's “kidnapping”. Nothing ad turned up and she was sad. So many children disappeared, she had looked for her own daughter for over 30 years.. Now she was sure that finding Samara would be the greatest gift she could give her own daughter [I think we can pity her for not knowing what we know about Ginebra].

Luna/Samara explained to Paz how much she missed Monito. She told her how that was a dangerous place. Vermin said he would return to that area to look for him.

Bosco desperately wanted to confront Rubio, claiming it was his right. He wanted to kill him. Esteban tried calming him down, saying that killing the creep would not be worth it. Elvira said she understood this, Gala agreed, and Esteban scolded Elvira for contradicting him in front of his children. He then told her that Rubio was not the killer. She did not believe this. Gala excused herself....

...to go to the bathroom, where she discovered blood in her urine.

Paz, Mireya, and Nandy prepared food for Luna's birthday, which was the next day. [Much of their conversation went over my head.] They started talking about Esteban as Vermin and Lupita came back. She was upset with the whole situation, especially with Mireya playing with fire (Maura). Luna heard some of this and said she should leave because of all the problems her presence caused. They caught her just in time as Ginebra showed up at the door. Panic ensued as Vermin took Luna and Cobija into a back room so Paz could go outside to talk to Ginebra.

Gema and her parents were passing by with a large bird cage [whose symbolism isn't lost on any of us]. Ginebra whipped out her phone photo of Samara and asked if they had seen her. They said No but that Paz and her family were looking for a child and her dog the other day. Ginebra offered to pay for information but Gema said they knew nothing about this. They walked away saying that rich people were crazy. Ginebra wondered what Paz was hiding.

Gala went back out into the living room and Elvira said “case closed. Rubio is guilty.” She continued to disagree with Esteban over this. Bosco asked what Rubio would gain by lying and Esteban said he was either afraid of someone or being paid to take the rap. He personally refused to rest until he found his true enemy [He's already found her and doesn't know it].

Paz told Ginebra her family was managing their new dog and it was disrupting their routine. Ginebra asked about the little girl and dog they had been previously looking for “Who was that little girl?” Paz told her it was a little girl from an art class and that they were in a panic. Ginebra was suspicious and began criticizing her upbringing for not letting her in, etc. Paz said it was not usual to expect to see her at that hour of the night in the barrio. Ginebra finally said she wanted “to talk about my daughter” which backed Paz into the proverbial wall.

Lupita tried to explain to Luna/Samara that they had to wait for Paz. The child carried on that nobody was telling her anything. Why had they not told her that her real mother was looking for her? Vermin stood outside the door trying to figure out what to do.

Ginebra asked Paz if it ever occurred to her that her daughter was dead. Paz said No, etc. Ginebra said that after less than a year she could not escape the feeling that her daughter was dead. Paz told her

“Your daughter is alive.”

How do you know?” She had a menacing tone.

If your daughter were dead, you would know it.”

Ginebra went into the “How much longer” rhetorical speech, ending with “I swear they will pay.”

In the back room [Scene must have been shot in the daytime] Mireya, Nandy, and Lupita tried to calm Luna down. She wanted to know who she was and why her mother had abandoned her to be lost and alone.

Paz asked Ginebra if she could trust everyone around her because,, after all, such things happen within families. Ginebra looked like she was thinking, then said “Yes, sometimes it is someone close.” She then asked Paz for a favor, then called the photo back to her phone screen. She wanted her to pup up posters to see if anyone had seen her. “Because you saw a girl who looked like Sam. Maybe your neighbors would recognize her.” She was studying Paz' face all this time. She then put her hand on Paz' shoulder to lead her to her car.

Esteban caught Bosco vaping.

Salomón and Gala were having a picnic just outside her house. He seemed determined to make this a real relationship.

Esteban pointed out that Bosco was only 17 and that vaping was bad for his health. He demanded to know where he had gotten the goods, etc, finally asking if he and his friends were laughing at him behind his back. Bosco said she smoked because of anxiety. Esteban came back with how this would affect his health, his fencing, etc., then asked “Did you know that my mother died of lung cancer?” Bosco looked shocked as Esteban finished by saying he had to cancel his date, that he would be grounded and his allowance suspended and he was to stay in and study. Bosco put on his plug-ugly face and said nothing.

Posters in hand, Ginebra told Paz that they were to be wallpapered throughout the barrio. Pepa came back and almost lost it when Ginebra showed the poster to him. Paz directed him on the family track and he talked about the kids' art classes he was giving. He talked about the murals he did in the barrio. Ginebra looked at the one on the restaurant exterior and said she wanted him to do a mural of Samara's face. She added she did not expect him to do it gratis. A couple of sentences later Paz suggested he go inside to Lupita. Ginebra gave the Advance Gratitude speech [which we are now all sick of].

Bosco did a Diego [of TVEMV] on Esteban that he knew nothing about his kids. Esteban answered that all he had done since Berenice's death was to devote himself to his children... and failed. How could he not fail if they lied and kept things from him? He started crying through this. [He seemed to get through to his brat but I'm holding out for better proof than Bosco's sullen face.] Bosco left the room and Eder came in to hug his dad.

Salomón put out the food – a lot of it – and Gala apologized, saying she had no appetite. He gave her a child-sized juice which she barely sipped. She then stood up and fainted.

Ginebra asked Paz if there was anything between herself and Esteban. Paz said No but Ginebra wasn't buying it. “Women have a sixth sense about this.” she said. Paz said she only did what was asked of her.

Salomón got Gala to come to but she didn't want him to tell her father. [Young man, this is a serious red flag.]

Ginebra said Paz was lying and that time always puts things in their place. Vermin appeared, Paz identified him as her ex and the father of her missing daughter. He said she was good to put him in her rooftop room until he could get on his feet. Ginebra made a comment I didn't get, Paz said goodbye, and Ginebra started walking toward her car. Vermin and Paz went into her gate. Both were getting nervous as they went inside the house.

Ginebra looked back at the mural that represented Paz and her lost daughter saying “If you are still alive I will kill you myself.” [… the fires of hell await you].

Luna/Samara had quieted down but was still upset. She did not want to know if she wanted to be with Ginebra. She asked if she was bad for not wanting to be with her. [Vermin, it's time to spill the beans.]

Salomón tried to persuade Gala to go to the doctor, even telling her of a friend who collapsed at a sports event. He told her she could trust him and hoped she wasn't sick. Then Elvira, Mistress of Control, appeared. She ordered him to pack up and leave.

Esteban told Eder he was the bravest of his kids, his little warrior.

Paz told Luna/Sam she would personally take her to her mother when she was sure she would be safe with her because the only thing she wanted was to protect her. Vermin listened again at the open door as the girl asked “Is my mother bad?” Nandy started to answer “Yes” but Lupita stopped her. Paz said there were evil people around her mother and she was protecting her from them. She said she had a surprise for her: a birthday party! Lupita was very nervous at this.

Mauro asked Ginebra if she was in love and she answered “Of course not!” He asked what she would do if Paz became the next Señora Villa de Cortez. She replied she would not permit that. Mauro observed that Esteban was a man of character and would have no problem marrying Paz. She said there were ways. Like with Berenice. Mauro looked away for a moment and we flash back to Berenice's murder. Her killer told her that her sister – Ginebra – was her killer as he prepared and injected the fatal dose. Ginebra then said “If I could kill my own sister why would I not do the same to Paz?” Mauro said “Paz is Samara's real mother. You inflicted sufficient pain by taking her daughter away.” She reminded him of his own involvement as he had obtained the baby and brought her to her. She knew that Paz was hiding something and would not stop until she knew what it was.

Elvira lectured Gala that this relationship was not in her interest. No faith in Salomón's future, so she told him to look elsewhere. Gala started defending Salomón. Esteban came out and defended the kids. Elvira ranted about the Worst Case Scenario about pregnancy and abandonment [AHA!].

Kenzo served dinner to his sons at his place. This was not going well.

Paz and Lupita had the same discussion about Luna/Samara. Lupita was completely fed up. The birthday party was going to have masks for all. Stalemate here.

Esteban called Paz later before going to bed. He told her about Bosco and she had to beg off a reqest because of the party. He asked if he could bring his kids. She said Okay. [She'd better pray to the Virgen for a serious miracle.]

We had an earthquake this morning, a 4.8. No damage, but it was freaky.

OT:

UA: Had no idea you're from either NY St, NJ or PA.

We felt it in Delaware, too. And on Wednesday we had another tornado warning!

Had a mild aftershock at 6PM.

Nothing like the shocks our characters will shortly get.

Urban, glad you are safe...Loved "nothing like the shocks our characters will shortly get".

Your recap was excellent as always. Paz’ apprehension and extreme discomfort throughout this nerve-wracking episode was perfectly reflected in the picture you chose.

Watching Ginebra putting Paz under the microscope with her incessant prodding and poking was hard to watch. Paz kept her composure quite well. If Ginebra plasters the neighborhood with Luna’s picture, all will be lost. Luna cannot be kept inside 24/7 she will need to surface for air sooner or later. And now Paz wants to have a birthday party for Paz?? It really feels as though the walls are closing in.

I was also hoping Vermin would speak up as well but sadly Paz (and we) are going to have to suffer longer with the big reveal still under wraps.

Kenzo tries but his crappy kids don’t like or respect him. Bosco is just repugnant at this point.

Gala is putting her health in grave jeopardy. If she wasn’t frightened about the blood in her urine she should be.

“Elvira ranted about the Worst Case Scenario about pregnancy and abandonment [AHA!]” was a red flag. We need to know more.

Urban , thank you for providing every moment.

Bosco is vaping , and something is happening to Gala . Poor Esteban . On top of his kid's troubles , his father seems to hate him and he has the mother in !As from hell living with him and beating him like a child. I hope he is smart enough to see that Gin is crazy bad.

Salo is sweet , and Pepa has galan goodlooks.

Whenever we get scenes of Esteban and his one low maintenance child Eder, I think of these two as father and son in " Invencible " and also together BTS. Daniel is truly great with kids. He seems to be a loving, affectionate father in real life, too.

Thanks Urban, well worth waiting for.

I was a wreck when Ginebra was questioning Paz. My thought was Paz is doing a good job of being a very bad actress. It was so obvious she was hiding something. And Ginebra knows it. She’s not going to leave Paz alone until she discovers what she’s hiding, aside from her love of Estaben.

How are he and his kids going to come to Luna’s birthday party. If they find out we know Bosco will tell ASAP.

Gala needs to tell someone what’s happening to her. I’m hoping Salomon will tell Paz.

Liz

Urban, sorry you had to go through the earthquake. They are unsettling.

The recap was excellent. Thank you.

Poor deluded Elvira thinking that anything even getting her daughter’ daughter back could win her daughter's love back.

No surprise that Gala fainted. She is not eating and drinking some kind of weight loss/appetite suppressant tea on top of that. It sounded like Salo might be getting the idea she has a real problem. Yay!

FF anything with that bozo Bosco and Jero. Kenzo should have told Jero if he didn’t like wings or pizza, he should learn how to cook.

Thumbs up to Paz for holding the line and not letting Ginebra in her home.

Why did we have to see BLOOD in the toilet? That was just GROSS and totally unecessary.

We learned that Esteban has his OWN money from Mauro. So, why is he still living with that old battle axe Elvira?

The masquerade party is a stupid idea but, hey, it originated with Vermin. Paz is not being smart thinking masks and painted faces will protect Luna.

Jarifa, I got the impression Elvira planted herself into Esteban's home around the second episode. Bosco is grounded, maybe he will be left home for the masquerade party. The earthquake reference explained my cousin in laws FB post today. I didn't watch any news as we are on a 500 mile drive chasing Monday's eclipse which will likely be cloudy as we are heading to Ohio, our former home.

Thanks for the fine recap, Urban. After some happy times with Paz and Esteban, this episode was all nerves.

Paz was completely rattled by Gin showing up, and I don't think she has it in her to be a good liar. Because of her guilt over actually having Ginebra's child in her home, she did not do the appropriate thing. She doesn't work for Gin. Why does she have to tolerate nighttime visits and prying questions. Paz, you can just say this is not a convenient time for a visit, expand on the unruly dog story, and go inside shutting the door in Gin's face.

Bosco needs to be grounded until he's 25.

We saw another flicker of humanity from Mauro when he told Gin she'd already done more than enough to Paz, having him steal her baby.

Kenzo needs to man up with his children. Filippa said something about his working too many hours and that's why he doesn't have much of a relationship with his children. But you don't win over your children by letting them rudely walk all over you. Those two need to be grounded as well. It really drives me nuts the way Kenzo just accepts the rude behavior. Who paid for all that gaming stuff Jero is so proud of?

Don't get me started. I raised one pretty nice male human. We had arguments, of course. But I expected and received respect. My child could not even have entertained the idea of speaking to me the way Kenzo's tow and Esteban's eldest do.

I still find it hard to watch Ginevra being always so creepy, even when she is trying to be nice. She always comes across as cold. Her asking 'was it rude to come unannounced' when she clearly expected the answer to be 'no, your highness.' was such a wth moment for me.Why did Mauro have to point out to her that Esteban might be in love with Paz? I mean, she thought he'd just get her into bed and then dump her . I suppose she is like Voldemort and can't believe people do fall in love, but then why doesn't she question the fact Esteban isn't going after her? Because she clearly considers herself to be a better choice. And yet she needs Elvira's help to get close to Esteban, so clearly somethingisn't working.
I felt so sorry for Esteban when he was talking to Bosco whereas Paula's crying doesn't affect me as much. Eder is such a lovely child and Esteban clearly did his best. I have to admit seeing affectionate fathers to me is like seeing aliens.
It appears Elvira isn't so much wanting to learn the truth as just to have someone she could point to and say he is her daughter's murderer. If I were her, I'd listen to my son-in-law. Because her only argument is 'he admitted therefore he is guilty'. Esteban clearly remembers more about the scene of the crime than she does. How can a person be so confidently incorrect and be willing to bang their head against the wall rather than listen to a different opinion? How did Berenice tolerate her? Because this 'I'm right' attitude can't be limited to Esteban and his kids only.

UA: AWESOME job on the recap of last night's episode.

Congratulations to Iowa Hawkeyes on advancing to the 2024 NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship against South Carolina Gamecocks.

Wow, I just read that Nicandro Díaz González died last month!!

Sorry, I know gossip isn't allowed, but he did produce many telenovelas Caray covered.

Paz has every reason to get seriously worried right now. While she doesn't know what we know about Ginebra she must have been getting hostile vibes during the interrogation. The walls are closing in and when Paz finds out that Samara is hers and Vermin not only sold her but is now on Ginebra's payroll she will go on the warpath.

We need Dr Monica's assessment to know where this will go.

Elvira is too emotionally damaged to see the truths that Esteban tried to explain to her. She needs closure after six-seven years, but can't see the forest for the trees. Rubio is the ultimate in low-lifes, the perfect image of an evil perv who enjoys killing women who wouldn't look once at his face. She will persist in this belief long enough for Ginebra to get close enough to kill her. Not yet predicting whether or not she will succeed at it.

Bosco deserves the punishment he just got. Gala could be doing herself in as we watch.

My latest conclusion is that Ginebra will try to kill Esteban's children before him and Elvira to make both of them suffer.

Thanks SO much for your recap, Urban. Just got my internet connection back. Unexpected stops yada yada. I'm terrified about the summer months, if we get another huge fire I might be forced to be offline for days. I probably won't recap novelas in the summer, I also need a break.

I'll get the recap tomorrow. I FINALLY have a chance to watch now.

Thank you Urban, I fell behind but I finally watched this episode today, there was so much angst and you captured it perfectly in your recap!

I believe it was actually Paz's idea to have the party with masks. It's what she and the ladies were discussing in the beginning of the episode. A way to allow Luna the opportunity to have fun and be outside of the house without being 'seen'. It's a dangerous idea, but a compassionate one.

I can't believe Gin is still thinking about and saying she'll kill Sam. She must realize it's too late for that. It would be way too obvious if she did.

I hate seeing children treat their parents with such disrespect!! I never would have dreamt of speaking to either of my parents the way these brats do! I also hate reading ' I have to admit seeing affectionate fathers to me is like seeing aliens.' I'm sorry you had that experience Waterlily! :(

Save Monito already!!! Who says 'we can't go back there it's too dangerous' when they KNOW that a young child Monito's age is out there on his own in that dangerous place?? It's crazy to me that none of these warm, caring, compassionate people are worried about that little boy!!!
