Monday, pt. 1 of 3, Nueva Etapa
.
Devin’s father tells Aslan how much her childhood sucked and that it definitely wasn’t his fault. And as Aslan leaves, he calls the other Parent of the Year, Hulya. (Didn’t know he knew her).
.
Nedret goes to the hospital to see Ibo (still unconscious) and shoots him up with something while Hulya watches. (I assume this was meds and not poison? Or I missed what she was doing but she was by his bedside talking to him).
.
Bedri parties with his discount, dollar-store lads that aren’t fit to clean Turgut’s shoes. He picks out some “girls” to hang with but is told they are at the Bosses table. He doesn’t care, starts a fight when someone comes over to question him, and mostly wins the fight so he’s a jerk that can throw a punch. Yay?
.
Aslan and Devin hang out while caring for the kids. They get along well enough while trying to put together a doll house. Aslan tells a story about his dad (or maybe an uncle) coming home with guns for the boys and a doll house for Leyla. She painted it all black. When dad came home and saw Aslan helping Leyla, he questioned the boy’s manhood and destroyed the house. Devin notes that history is repeating itself. Hulya is destroying the house that Leyla was trying to build, and Aslan is helping Hulya. They discuss this a bit and Aslan doesn’t want anything going to the press because whenever something goes to the press, it destroys the family. (So maybe the family should do different things and be boring?). He argues for the two of them to be together. And then Zeynap wakes up and admires the house, and also wants food.
.
Back to Bedri. Turns out the boss man is Ilyas. He punches a couple of the henchmen and orders the place shut down. I don’t get this. Bedri calls him an old man and Ilyas tells Bedri he was warned. He’s too hot-headed and this is what happens when you don’t grow up without a father.
.
Kaya is up and hungry so that’s good. Zeynap asks why The Table us so big at the house, which Devin thinks is a good idea. Aslan says it’s to hold all the family members, even the crappy ones. (he maybe doesn’t use that word but he includes Hulya in the list of family he mentions).
.
Hulya talks to Ibo about her having chosen the wrong brother. She didn’t get the chance to make the right choice (or something like that), and she bets him not to leave her and she cries. (It’s the most human she’s seemed. Shame she couldn’t apply some of this emotion to her daughter).
.
Still at the hospital but out of the visitor gear, Hulya splashes water on her face in the bathroom and then Cihan says hi from behind her. He tells her not to worry. He won’t hurt her because her son will. He leaves so he was just there to annoy her. (We approve).
.
Devin tells Kaya she’ll never leave him, thus ensuring that she will be leaving him soon.
.
Bedri and his idiots talk about the deal with the Russians. When they go inside, they see that the Russians are already there with Aslan. The Russian let him know that the deal is already made and that he’s a fun guy but Aslan is el jefe. After they leave, Aslan lets him know that he gets to keep having fun with them but he’ll be making the deals. Bedri is ticked.
Monday, pt. 2 of 3
.
Hulya talks to someone about getting the kids. Devin is checking on Kaya and helping Zeynep comb her hair. Doorbell. Devin checks the peephole and sends the kids to their room. It’s the cops accusing her of kidnapping the kids. Devin argues that she didn’t kidnap anyone, and the cops says he’s sure she didn’t but she needs to come down to the station. Before she says anything else, Nedret is seen at the doorway and says hi to the cop. Nedret! Devin got herself an ally maybe?
.
Yes (after the commercial)! Nedret tells the cop he’s wasting his time because she’s blood relative and allowed to be with the kids. She says she brought the kids to the house because of an emergency, shows her id, and the cops are satisfied and they leave. The one Hulya talked to gets a call from her that Nedret answers after grabbing the phone from him. Arguing. Nedret tells Hulya she’s lucky to have such a daughter-in-law, and the kids aren’t going anywhere. Hulya gives the order to her henchman to shoot (?) She see Ergun.
.
Bedri is with Ilyas now, talking about ruining the Russian deal to make himself look good. Ilyas calls him intelligent. Can’t tell if he means it or is happy to use Bedri’s dumb idea to get the marina. They’re in cahoots is the point.
.
Devin thanks Nedret for helping. Asuman had warned them about the plan that she had overheard in the house. Devin tells Nedret that Kaya spoke to her last night even though he normally only talks to Leyla. Nedret will be there for her.
.
Devin is then seen at work with Cihan. He’s telling her he doesn’t want to hurt the kids, or Leyla or Ceylan. He also tells her that Serap has a hatred for the Soykan that he can’t understand. That she’ll kill the Soykan and then herself. He’s concerned and wants Devin to help her. Devin asks if he’s in love with her but he doesn’t really answer. He does get her to agree to help.
.
Cihan goes to see Serap and wans to apologize to her. She syas they’re adults and should get past it. He tells her she’s a lot like him, the younger him. And that she should go see Devin for therapy. And just then Aslan calls her to tell her time is up. She’s not worried because his ex-brother won’t testify against her and she has another witness. He sends her another photo of the big guys who was threatened, I think. He was there with Aslan and will testify on the side of Aslan. And then someone comes to the door to arrest Serap. Cihan follows her out as they take her away.
.
Hulya comes to Devin’s office to see her. Hulya demands to know where the kids are and tells her she shouldn’t trust Nedret. The alliance will fail. Devin is a little smug in her response that I can’t remember exactly. Hulya asks why she wants them, and then says she doesn’t because they make her feel valuable. Hulya brings up the baby she lost and her inability to not have kids, hitting Devin where it hurts. She won’t let Devin be a mother with HER grandchildren. She then reads a story in the news where she’s accused of taking the kids away from their grandmother. (Wonder how Aslan will feel about this going to the press, and more importantly, what he will do about it).
Monday, pt. 3 of 3
.
Yagmur is with Aslan making a deal with him that she doesn’t want Devin to know about. The deal is that she will tell him about their mother’s suicide.
.
Ilyas goes to see Cihan. He holds up a gun to Cihan’s face and want to know if its true that he won’t testify on her behalf. Not to worry though because he has a plan.
.
Yagmur’s story includes her having given Yagmur some of their mother’s meds and getting yelled at by their dad. (Pretty sure she was a child at this point).
.
Leyla is talking to someone about the papers from her lawyer going to Devin, and then Melek enters the yard. She’s back! I guess that’s good?
.
Aslan goes to pick up the kids from Devin. They look a little concerned as they are ordered to go with Aslan. He doesn’t want her to go through this along but she doesn’t want the kids to go back to the house. He says he warned her his mom would attack her, so he wants her to go back to the house with him to be with the kids and protect them from his mom rather than let the kids stay away from all of them with Devin because this makes so much sense. Eye roll.
.
Devin gets the letter from Leyla with Leyla’s counter-attack papers.
.
Aslan, the idiot, brings the kids back to the house. Hulya is so happy but Aslan warns her that they are his sobrinos and her grandkids, but not HERS hers. He warns her off but we all now this will mean nothing to her. The kids are running around outside with Ceylan, who really should be in school or something. Nedret somes out to the patio and Hulya shows her that her grandkids are back. She then gets in a dig about Nedret being kicked out of the house and not knowing what it means to have a family. (Bedri doesn’t count apparently). Nedret points out that Hulya couldn’t get them so she had her son do it. She gives Hulya some advice that she’ll ignore. (Didn’t someone else point out that all this expulsion stuff happened like 40 years ago? Or maybe that was about the Nese situation. Either way, Turkish people hold onto grudges for way too long).
.
Devin reads the stuff from Leyla and had a bunch of flashbacks to things people have told her. Mostly that Aslan didn’t want her to make an enemy of him and Leyla begging her for help.
.
And we’re out. I vote to release the Kraken to the press, not worry about Aslan who insists on keeping his horrible family together, and let the chips fall where they may while taking the kids far away, like maybe to Adana. That place seemed nice and Asuman, et al, seemed happy there. Is there room for Turgut? (winky face emoji)
.
K
Thanks very much, K, for this helpful recap. I have really nothing to add. The more I see of Bedri, the more I think he's a jerk. A case in point: where he "and his dollar discount-store lads" [I loved that!] see some girls he finds attractive. He is warned that the girls are at the boss's table and therefore off limits, but blowhard Bedri doesn't care. He takes on a bunch of other jerks (presumably dime-store discount lads) and beats them all. Alas, Ilyas (who apparently is "the boss"?) seems to like Bedri, sees him as being like him when he was young. Hmmm.... I frankly don't know what to think.
So finally Hulya makes it official. She tells the unconscious Ibo, "You were right. I chose the wrong brother." If Ibo was the right brother, that's pretty slim pickings.
For me, one of the few happy moments in this episode was Kaya's starting to speak to Devin.
I'm relieved that there's no episode tonight. Happy New Year!
Gracias, K. Super work. I agree with Juanita -- "dime-store discount lads" is a perfect description of Bedri's idiots.
I feel bad for Nedrit that Bedri is a fool. I know she did her best with him.
At the hospital with Ibo, Nedrit was lovingly massaging his hands but mused about him dimming her light so he could shine. I take it he betrayed her back in the day when the parents kicked her out.
Yagmur tells Aslan more about Devin's childhood. As we already know, 8-year-old Devin became Yagmur's mother after Nese's suicide attempt. One day little Yagmur got sick so Devin tried to treat her with their mom's medicine. Yagmur wound up in the hospital for weeks, Nese was charged with child neglect, and remarried Ergun got custody of the girls. Shattered, Devin lost weight and was skin and bones. Wow, Ergun must really hate Devin to ask her if she'd medicated Kaya.
Cheers. Ibo's strong man is no idiot and chooses Aslan over that loca Serap.
Caraymates, Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best.
Halimacandy, there is no way I stay up to 1 a.m. to watch as it is aired. I catch it later from my DVR library. I'll put up a short recap about last night's episode later. Not too much action in that episode so it's a bit boring. As we all know, Monica is revealed Fernanda's daughter.....though Monica is still in the dark.
K, I am simply in awe (and maybe a bit envious) of your ability to come up with so many zingers and funny asides in this (and every) recap! "other Parent of the Year" and "discount dollar-store lads" definitely stand out.
Well, they've all but said that Bedri is Ilyas' spawn. He's challenged that seriously dangerous guy more than once and lived. Considering his results, maybe Ilyas should have had a vasectomy right after puberty.
Aslan just keeps falling off his pedestal. It's just dumb to treat Bedri the way he does. In the first place he's his first cousin. And in the second, he's driving him into Ilyas' arms. Sure, Bedri shouldn't have messed with the big Russian deal, but there's no need to publicly humiliate him after it's signed.
Did we know that Kaya used to talk to Leyla? That was a lovely moment when he spoke to Devin. But, of course, these sadistic writers have the kids jerked away almost immediately. And by Aslan. Yes, K, he's an idiot.
I was sort of surprised Melek came back to the prison dorm being nasty to Leyla. They sort of bonded before Hulya made her an offer she couldn't refuse. Does she think she can do the stab herself routine all over again and get the rest of the money for her family?
Juanita, you said it about Ibo being "slim pickings"!
¡Feliz Año Nuevo a Todos!
This will be from memory just to have something put up. Family will be here for dinner in a couple of hours.
Ana, our favorite victim whom nobody believes has a lot of scenes, mostly on the phone with others, Francisco, Elisa etc. more of the same about she did not kill her mother, Fernandoa did it. I wish Elisa had tried to get prints off the plastic bag of pills that were placed on Ana's vanity/dresser. She actually spoke in person in the yard with Fermin about Claudia. Also about trying to get Francisco to believe her and not Fernanda's story.
Well Fernanda now knows Monica is her daughter but she has no motherly feelings towards her. Mirna tries to tell her they can grow but I'm pretty sure that shi has sailed. Eugenio, from his hospital bed, points out she was never mother material which is why he placed Monica in another home.
Tania is back with Alonso, but it is a plot. She won't be suspected in whatever nefarious plans she has in store for him since they are a couple again. She gives him a hug at the office and Marcelo nearly goes ballistic but Francisco drags him away.
Erika tells Claudia when she is released she will be staying with her and Fermin. It sure is nice to have a supportive sister and brother-in-law, too bad Ana doesn't get the same from her family.
Gabriel writes Brenda and email since she has blocked his calls and texts. He tells her he is getting treatment for his ailment. If he hadn't been responsible for her brother's deaths I could almost root for these two to resolve their problems. Brenda's mom counsels her to block his emails next and start to work in their family company to get her mind off of him.
Eugenio is balking at heart surgery until the case against the del Pinot's is resolved.
Ana told Francisco about contracting syphilis. Elisa tells Erika who in turn tells Claudia.
And that is what I recall. Happy New Year again to all the patio....
A happy and healthy 2025 to all.
It’s always a pleasure to read your recaps, K. Thank you very much.
It bothers me that Bedri doesn’t wear socks.
Ergun is in cahoots with Hulya? Good grief.
Ugh, I think they are setting up Yagmur and Bedri. Edited scene. Yagmur is leaving the marina. She checks her phone and sees an IG post—Turgut’s selfie with Isko and newly engaged Eko and Elif showing their engagement rings. She’s shocked and saddened. [what did this girl expect after what she did?] Bedri and his “discount, dollar-store lads” (thanks, K) are at an outdoor table. Bedri notices Yagmur and calls her over.
Yagmur walks over to the table and without a word, downs the guys’ glasses of rakı. The guys are stunned. Bedri sends his dollar store lads away and offers Yagmur a seat. Your emotions made you hot, Bedri notes. Yagmur wants more rakı. He pours. He asks, why do you burn? It’s a long, complicated story, she replies. Bedri says he’ll listen and adds, are you sad about the man who left you halfway (let you down)?
Do you know about Ekrem and me, Yagmur asks. Of course I know, Bedri replies. He wore a ribbon today. She nods and gets teary. She drinks. Bedri cautions, this stuff will only make you dizzy when you forget about the one who left. Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s not worth it for a guy who makes you sad.
Yagmur asks, do you say this about your girlfriends, too? No need, he answers, if I loved a woman, if I really loved her, I’d rather die than make her sad. A better person would make the one he loves laugh. If he makes her cry, then he doesn't truly love. Aphorisms, Yagmur states. Allah, Allah, Bedri replies. Anyway, I mean, the one who is half-hearted will half heal the wound of the one who is not half. [don’t ask, I have no idea what he means.] They both laugh. Yagmur thanks him, he’s been nice to her. She leaves. He watches her leave.
Many thanks, K. The show is getting so complicated, so many possible angles and good/ bad guys! Aargh! Your recaps make it easier to follow.
Turgut happy with Asuman is a great idea!
Poor Leyla, why keep her in jail? She is one of the few totally good characters.
Happy New Year to all!
Beth S.
K, thank you for that snappy recap . I haven't seen this episode yet , but I hope to watch tonight's episode. Susan
Kat in SC: Happy 2025 & thanks for the recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts on last night's episode (very short).
*Mirna is too damn gullible & STUPID. Crazy Goldie Locks is obviously NOT mother material: the devil incarnate is ingrained too deep.
*Gabriel writing Brenda letters LOL. I think Brenda still in danger & will she make it to the Gran Final ?
*Stupidity of the del Pino family continues. Gullible Elisa is still Gullible.
*Glad Francisco had to hold back Marcelo, who saw Tania with Slick Alonso.
*Did Sebastian make an appearance ?
*Ana contracting syphilis SMH. She's the ONLY person that I'm interested in 24/7.
My biggest takeaway from last night's episode is "always get a second medical opinion." After wise Nedret's gentle prodding about Devin's supposed infertility after the miscarriage, Devin goes to her pop's hospital to follow up. Lo and behold, Devin spots Hulya getting off the elevator. Devin puts 2 and 2 together and let's dear ole dad have it. Nedret will go with her to another doctor.
Aslan can't catch a break as far as landing a tenant deal at the marina. Ilyas has had the head Russian killed, I think by arranging an accident in the Russian's hotel room. Of course, Bedri was all in on this. Aslan has another deal up his sleeve though and plans to buy out Nedret/Bedri.
Devin, now back at the mansion for the kids' sake, is shocked that Nedret has gone far beyond Leyla's plan for a press conference to out Hulya about scheming to keep Leyla in prison in order to take her kids. Nedret has in fact gone way beyond this, to Devin's chagrin, to list past wicked deeds committed by Hulya.
Hulya steps up her plan to get Nedret. She's digging up crap about what happened to Nedret's husband 15 years ago. Rumor has it Nedret and Bedri murdered him.
The kids are kicked out of their school allegedly because the other parents don't want them there due to the bad publicity about their grandma Hulya. This makes absolutely no sense. I think it's suppose to be comic relief when Devin gives Aslan just "one minute" to slap around the nasty head parent in the men's room. Anyhoo, it's nice to see them take a mini-break from their feuding.
Aslan tells Leyla all about Serap and that she (Leyla) has got to make sure Melek stays alive to tell the truth about stabbing her ownself.
Ilyas has put a hit out on Bozo/Boso(?), Ibo's strong man, so Bozo can't testify against Serap. I don't think Bozo has ever said one word in this dizi, but I feel for him.
Monica and Fernanda fight snipe at each other as usual. Fernanda ran into her in the foyer of the apartment building or the office, not sure exactly ehere.Fernanda recalls Eugenio's words to her about not being mother material.
Elisa and Tania argue about her getting back with Alonso. Tania argued back that she should be with Emilio not Roberto.
Sebastian makes an appearance again ( Steve, he was in 1 scene on Tuesday's episode with Monica), Monica complains about running into Fernanda to him.
Adelberto is telling Ninette and Brenda about Eugenio's heart condition. Looks like he should get a pacemaker if my interpretation is correct, but is afraid to die on the operating table.
Fernanda has been talking to Eugenio' on the phone. Not quite sure what is happening here. He tells her he will help her find a job I think. She wants Alfredo to lose it all I believe ( Alfredo is insisting the prenup stands and she gets nothing even though he is the one openly having an affair with Pati.). They hang u and he recalls her convo from the day before which I didn't totally follow and I'm no wiser the second time around. She says he is the loser.)
Monica asks Sebastian what was Fernanda like when his mother was alive. Friendly, efficient discrete etc. she was nice to my siblings and my mother loved her....in order for her to have killed my mother she would have had to have been very calculating and cold blooded. Moni says that is Fernanda in a nutshell. I'm thinking this discussion happened in their condo as a guitar is next to Sebastian.
Brenda is hitting up her dad for an apartment downtown I think. She doesn't want to travel with Mom, she's ready to work at his company. Ninette says to keep an eye on him....no making Eugenio in charge on their watch.
Elisa is rummaging through Ana's clothes and drawers to check for drugs per Erika's advice, I believe. Ana is in the room too.
Gabriel tells Alfredo the PI will give him info about Eugenio soon. He changes the subject and tells dad he is getting treatment for his debility. It's because of Alonso's sexual jokes all the time.
Ignacio talks with Francisco about the photo of Fernanda and Beltran. Francisco wants to prove Beltran killed his grandmother. [I'm still curious who is the mother and father of Francisco. Could he also be a bastard son of the elder Del Pino].
Erika apologies to Fermin for asking Claudia to stay with them when she is out of rehab. He understands fully.
Marcelo calls Tania asking what is she thinking getting back with Alonso.
Gabriel goes into more detail about his problems with his dad who tells him continue with the therapy, but what about winning Brenda back...
Francisco tells Ignacio he thinks Ana is a lost cause since she took drugs again. Ignacio wisely suggests more treatment for her.
Marcelo says the best thing he ever did was break up with Tania ( these talks are via telephone).
Oh great, we get to see the dastardly duo again, Rafita and Miguel. Miguel is calling Claudia who is still attached to an IV pole in the gardens of her treatment facility. He's checking in to see how she is doing. Bad, and all thanks to you she says. I think Miguel threatened Erika and Fermin but I'm not sure.
Ana talks with her dad about how Fernanda left the drugs in her room and tormented her which is why she took them. She swears it will never happen again. Dealing with syphilis is as much as she can handle. Dad says he never imagined any daughter of his would stoop to selling herself for drugs. (Way to turn the knife dad). Alfredo will make some decision about Fernanda tomorrow.
Yup, Miguel threatened Erika and her baby....he says he'll call her again. Block his number Claudia! Or record it and go to the police.
Ana asks dad about Pati. She is purely a diversion, never going to marry her. Ana begs that he never permit Fernanda to return to the house, and so he promises.
Mirna offers Fernandoa her tiny spare bedroom. She accepts since Eugenio has refused to give her any money.
Eugenio calls Richards, his lawyer. He needs him to come to Miami. Sounds like Eugenio' wants to put his affairs in order ( here's hoping Monica is his heir, gee maybe he is Francisco dad too).
Sebastian is making moves on his wife who has flashbacks to her rape and can't reciprocate. She blames it on being tense from the move to Miami. If she isn't telling him about Alonso she should get herself in therapy like Gabriel!
Fernanda wants to introduce Mirna to Francisco and Marcelo.
Pati and Elisa fight....
Alfredo and Adelberto also argue via telephone.
Ignacio brings the photo with Eugenio and Fernanda to Alfredo and Gabriel.
Thanks for the quickie, Niecie. Yes, it looks like Scumbag Ergun may have worked with Hulya to convince Devin of her inability to conceive. I guess we should have known something was going on when he seemed supportive in the brief scene (s) we saw after the miscarriage. While watching last night I wondered for a brief stomach-churning moment if they meant he'd sterilized her while "treating" her.
This whole Hulya Svengali routine is getting on my nerves. We also found out she pressured the school principal to boot the grandchildren she supposedly loves out of their school. Is she planning to home school them, beginning with Dirty Tricks 101 and later Sabotaging Your Children 1A?
I'm ready to get off this economic rollercoaster the writers have Aslan on. In the first place I sneered a bit at the whole deal out the window because the Russian was killed. Don't Russians have companies and LLC's? Wouldn't the deal be binding even if the head guy was gone?
I enjoyed Nedret's threatening Ilyas. She's gotten within stabbing range of him twice now. I think what she said took him aback, at least a little.
LLCs? Far too reasonable for this show now. Aslan especially is anything but reasonable. He was given Devin grief for segueing with him in front of the kids and getting grandma arrested in fronting the kids and ohhh the poor children. Well they were perfectly safe and happy living at Devin’s house with her and no evil grandmother in site. And she just lets him whine instead of yelling back. Or punching him in the face (my preferred choice).
How about get Hulya an apartment in the city all by herself and everyone else can stay in the revenge house (I think that name is thanks to Dondi maybe?) And also punch her in the face before she goes. You know Nedret would be up for this.
K
Kat in SC: Enjoyed reading your recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts:
*I'm also interested in finding out who were Francisco's parents. Because I am surprised he never mentioned them at all.
*Marcelo: Forget about Tania: She's a lost cause!
*Speaking of Tania & Gullible Elisa: Bickering over Mooching Roberto & Francisco/Emilio as well as Gullible Elisa pissed off at Tania getting back with Slick Alonso.
*The Thugs (probably hired by Eugenio & Crazy Goldie Locks) threatening Erika, Fermin & Claudia. Brilliant! More threats & intimidation. Too bad Francisco didn't learn from Alejandro Gaitan of "CONDE".
*Speaking of Jackassery: Alfredo still an uppity Jackass! My advice to Ana: Alfredo will NEVER keep his promises.
*Wake me up when Brenda finds out about Gabriel & Alfredo having her brothers killed. Sensing the Body Count will be increasing soon: Just saying! 🤔
